- 0:03Speaker 1: It's an me ft breaking news.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Scottie Brown along with Kevin Pillar and then JJ Cooper
- 0:07Speaker 2: joining us soon from Baseball America.
- 0:09Speaker 1: On the prospect side, well, KP.
- 0:11Speaker 2: The title of this live show and video is the
- 0:13Speaker 2: Rich Get Richer, and they do. The Los Angeles Dodgers badly,
- 0:17Speaker 2: badly needed a little bit more to get over the hump.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I'm being sarcastic. They pick up Trek Skouble. So what
- 0:23Speaker 2: do you think about this one? On the major league side,
- 0:26Speaker 2: and then we'll get to the ramifications around major League Baseball.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I initially I'm thinking about the ramifications
- 0:33Speaker 3: all these other teams that felt like they had an
- 0:35Speaker 3: opportunity to get them. And sure enough, the Dodgers are
- 0:38Speaker 3: the team that is willing to part way with some
- 0:41Speaker 3: of their prospects in order to get them. And you know,
- 0:43Speaker 3: the headline, the Ridge get Richer. The Dodgers do what
- 0:46Speaker 3: the Dodgers always do, and they seem to figure out
- 0:49Speaker 3: a way to go get the best player available on
- 0:51Speaker 3: the trade market. You know, they obviously have the ability
- 0:54Speaker 3: to go out in the offseason and get the best
- 0:56Speaker 3: free agent available too, because they're willing to spend money.
- 0:59Speaker 3: But you know, I have an interesting take on this,
- 1:02Speaker 3: and I know, Scott, we were just talking. You have
- 1:04Speaker 3: a little bit of an interesting take on this too.
- 1:06Speaker 3: But the Dodgers just seem to do everything a little
- 1:10Speaker 3: bit better than everyone else. You know. Obviously, they're a
- 1:12Speaker 3: team that has the best rhetoric on baseball. They're back
- 1:15Speaker 3: to back World Series champs, They're the by far the
- 1:18Speaker 3: favorite to win a third consecutive. They go out and
- 1:21Speaker 3: get the best player on the trade market, back to
- 1:25Speaker 3: back Cy Young Award winner TEK School. But this speaks
- 1:28Speaker 3: a lot about what the Dodgers do behind closed doors.
- 1:31Speaker 3: They have the best ability to have prospects that they're
- 1:35Speaker 3: willing to part ways with because they know that they
- 1:38Speaker 3: can draft and develop better than everyone else, and that
- 1:42Speaker 3: these guys potentially have the ability to be impact players
- 1:45Speaker 3: for the Detroit Tigers in the near future. But they'll
- 1:48Speaker 3: just keep replenishing. And I'm very interested too, because I
- 1:52Speaker 3: can't sit here and say that I'm an expert in
- 1:54Speaker 3: terms of prospects, and I could see the rankings, but
- 1:58Speaker 3: in terms of the talent that projectability. So I'm excited
- 2:01Speaker 3: to hear what JJ has to say on it. But
- 2:03Speaker 3: I am a little bit disappointed in a couple of
- 2:06Speaker 3: teams across the league that I felt like had an
- 2:08Speaker 3: opportunity to go out and get a guy like Trek Scooble,
- 2:12Speaker 3: the Milwaukee Brewers being one of them. I mean, you
- 2:15Speaker 3: have a once in a generation talent in the Myths,
- 2:18Speaker 3: and parrying a guy like Trek's Schooble with him would
- 2:22Speaker 3: have been so exciting for baseball. It'd have been so
- 2:24Speaker 3: exciting for Milwaukee Brewers fans, and I think it would
- 2:28Speaker 3: have really kind of changed the balance in baseball potentially.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I know, the Dodgers probably still would have been the
- 2:34Speaker 3: favorite to win the World Series, but adding a guy
- 2:37Speaker 3: like Trek Scooble to a rotation with the miz would
- 2:41Speaker 3: have dramatically changed that. I think about a team like
- 2:44Speaker 3: the Atlanta Braves. You've got a future Hall of Famer
- 2:46Speaker 3: and Chris Sale, a team that's desperately needing another guy
- 2:51Speaker 3: to go along side with Chris Sale. I think they
- 2:55Speaker 3: missed an opportunity to go out there. The Tampa bay Rays.
- 2:59Speaker 3: You know a team that every year is kind of undervalued,
- 3:02Speaker 3: underappreciate it, and they have an opportunity. You know, once again,
- 3:06Speaker 3: you know a team that's in first place in the division.
- 3:10Speaker 3: It would have been great to see them kind of
- 3:13Speaker 3: throw in a couple prospects, you know, go all in
- 3:16Speaker 3: and try to win a World Series because they have
- 3:19Speaker 3: a team to do it this year.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yea.
- 3:21Speaker 2: And going with the Brewers, for example, a team that
- 3:24Speaker 2: I think some were hoping to see finally push them
- 3:27Speaker 2: Chips in last year, they did just about nothing at
- 3:29Speaker 2: the trade deadline despite winning. I think it was ninety
- 3:32Speaker 2: seven games, most in baseball, and it clearly showed when
- 3:36Speaker 2: you got deeper into the postseason. And some teams are
- 3:39Speaker 2: dealing with weaker farm systems. The Brewers have I think
- 3:43Speaker 2: pretty consensus a top three farm systems. So you're looking
- 3:46Speaker 2: around like this is fishy. What's going on? The Dodgers
- 3:49Speaker 2: give up. According to Baseball America, their number six, number nine,
- 3:52Speaker 2: and number twenty seven prospects. Two of these guys were
- 3:55Speaker 2: eleventh round picks. The other was a ninety fifth overall
- 3:58Speaker 2: pick in the third round. Right, these are the Blue Chippers.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Zeyer Hope could be a very good player. He's definitely
- 4:03Speaker 2: like a high risk, high reward type. But the Brewers
- 4:06Speaker 2: easily easily could have beaten this package and still had
- 4:10Speaker 2: plenty of room despair. None of these three players in
- 4:13Speaker 2: the Dodgers system really had a pathway to immediate playing time.
- 4:16Speaker 2: You can make a case for the pitching injuries and
- 4:18Speaker 2: guys like River Ryan and Brady Smith eventually emerging there.
- 4:21Speaker 2: But let's go to the Dodgers side for a moment,
- 4:23Speaker 2: KP and how dominant they've been given that the rest
- 4:27Speaker 2: of the league is eerily chilling right now during these moments,
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yamamoto Scooble Otani if he's feeling good on the mound,
- 4:37Speaker 2: Oh wait, Glass, now Snell, that's what your five could
- 4:41Speaker 2: look like in October. And then there's depth on top
- 4:44Speaker 2: of that, Roki Sazaki, who you would think will be
- 4:48Speaker 2: in the bullpen like he was last year in October
- 4:50Speaker 2: for the Dodgers. Justin Robleski is an All Star this year.
- 4:53Speaker 2: It doesn't really have a spot if the other five
- 4:56Speaker 2: are healthy. When I say doesn't have a spot, doesn't
- 4:58Speaker 2: have a starting spot on a playoff rotation. Same with
- 5:00Speaker 2: em She, same with Eric Lauer. This is stupid depth
- 5:04Speaker 2: right now, and KP. I mean Snell and Glass now
- 5:08Speaker 2: missed most of the year, or Tani's not pitching at
- 5:10Speaker 2: the moment. It gives them some very nice insurance options too.
- 5:14Speaker 3: It's crazy because we're talking about an All star, you know,
- 5:16Speaker 3: not having a place in a rotation. He's kind of
- 5:19Speaker 3: been a little bit of their unsung hero this year
- 5:21Speaker 3: with all the injuries, Blake Snell being out and Tyler
- 5:25Speaker 3: Glassnell being now. But in addition to that, with those
- 5:28Speaker 3: guys not pitching at all this year, they're getting the
- 5:31Speaker 3: freshest version of Tyler Glassnow and Blake Snow when they
- 5:34Speaker 3: eventually do return to this rotation. The thing I find
- 5:37Speaker 3: amazing though, is how the Dodgers are able to, you know,
- 5:41Speaker 3: acquire a guy like Trek Scuble, but not really subtract
- 5:44Speaker 3: from their major league roster. You know, you would have
- 5:46Speaker 3: thought at the very least, you know, and Emmett Sheehan
- 5:50Speaker 3: would have been going back in return and kind of
- 5:52Speaker 3: really filed that, you know, spot in the rotation for
- 5:55Speaker 3: the Detroit Tigers, not only for this year, but you know,
- 5:58Speaker 3: for many years to come. It it is, it's a
- 6:01Speaker 3: bit amazing, how you know it. I don't know if
- 6:05Speaker 3: it speaks so much about the uncertainty of the future
- 6:08Speaker 3: next year and if there's gonna be a lockout, and
- 6:10Speaker 3: how teams are kind of valuing, you know, a rental
- 6:14Speaker 3: and what they kind of want in return. But it's
- 6:18Speaker 3: very interesting that the Tigers couldn't get more or at
- 6:21Speaker 3: least getting a major league talent, a major league ready
- 6:24Speaker 3: talent like Emtt Sheehan, you know, or Roki Sasaki someone
- 6:30Speaker 3: along those lines. Yeah, I mean, I know you kind
- 6:33Speaker 3: of have your thoughts and your theories on it too,
- 6:35Speaker 3: And like I said, I'm a bit interested to hear,
- 6:38Speaker 3: you know, what JJ has to say in terms of,
- 6:42Speaker 3: you know, what potentially were some of the other you know,
- 6:46Speaker 3: you know, alleged packages out there from other teams, What
- 6:49Speaker 3: were the Dodgers not willing to get rid of, what
- 6:51Speaker 3: were the Brewers not willing to get rid of? And
- 6:53Speaker 3: then you know, there was also another trade yesterday and
- 6:55Speaker 3: to me not really knowing like the prospects, you know,
- 6:58Speaker 3: did the Mariners potentially get more a better return for
- 7:02Speaker 3: a guy like Luis Castillo? You know, these are things
- 7:05Speaker 3: that you know, me not knowing the farm systems as well,
- 7:09Speaker 3: someone like JJ, I'm very interested to hear.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Yeah, they did get one big prospect in that one,
- 7:13Speaker 2: which we'll talk to JJ about too, But just to
- 7:16Speaker 2: play off what you're saying, we'll bring in JJ in
- 7:18Speaker 2: one minute. Logan Henderson is a guy who could slot
- 7:21Speaker 2: pretty much right away into a rotation for the Tigers
- 7:25Speaker 2: and make an impact. You wonder if he was dangled
- 7:28Speaker 2: by the Brewers or if they were kind of trying
- 7:32Speaker 2: to give up lower end prospects on their end. Also
- 7:35Speaker 2: considering that for Milwaukee, guys seven, eight, nine, ten, example
- 7:39Speaker 2: in their system are two, three, four, five and many
- 7:42Speaker 2: other systems. Again, we'll talk to JJ about that. So
- 7:44Speaker 2: I'll just I'll finish with my theory for now.
- 7:47Speaker 1: KP. This one is weird.
- 7:50Speaker 2: You had heard basically the whole way through that the
- 7:52Speaker 2: Dodgers were the favorite, even though the Dodgers were downplaying it,
- 7:57Speaker 2: and you were like, all right, if the Dodgers end
- 7:59Speaker 2: up with him, they're giving their top I don't know,
- 8:01Speaker 2: two out of five prospects something like that, and the
- 8:05Speaker 2: rest of the league just can't keep up, which is
- 8:06Speaker 2: its own issue because the top team that always picks
- 8:09Speaker 2: towards the end of the draft is still fleecing people
- 8:12Speaker 2: in trades. Zire Hope was a trade River Ryan was
- 8:14Speaker 2: a trade for Brett Batty. Am I saying that not
- 8:17Speaker 2: Brett Baty Michael Batty. Who's the Baty from the Padres
- 8:21Speaker 2: twenty twenty two, Michael whatever, one of the Baties in
- 8:24Speaker 2: twenty twenty two is a River Ryan acquisition for them
- 8:27Speaker 2: that helps to make this trade KP For me, it's
- 8:31Speaker 2: weird how some teams have sit on the sidelines for
- 8:34Speaker 2: a big player like this.
- 8:35Speaker 1: It's weird.
- 8:36Speaker 2: It's eerie heading into a lockout year, and it feels
- 8:40Speaker 2: a little bit to me like, let the Dodgers get
- 8:42Speaker 2: this guy, Let the Dodgers win. It's just this is
- 8:45Speaker 2: not a money situation when it comes to a trade acquisition.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Trek School is not cheap, but any team can very
- 8:50Speaker 2: easily take him on and prof off Trek Schoobles selling
- 8:53Speaker 2: out a stadium for the next couple months and then beyond.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Here's a tweet from Travis Sauchik, who rights for MLB.
- 9:01Speaker 2: The Brewers are elite operators. They are incredibly rational. But
- 9:03Speaker 2: I am among those that argue this was a time
- 9:05Speaker 2: to be irrational. Flipping from Schooble mis top of your rotation,
- 9:08Speaker 2: you're most likely NLCS opponent throwing School two times at
- 9:11Speaker 2: you in a series is about as consequential a trade
- 9:14Speaker 2: deadline decision that exists. I'm totally with you, Travison. Again,
- 9:16Speaker 2: That's why I think this is weird. I really do.
- 9:19Speaker 2: I think some of the say, smaller market owners that
- 9:22Speaker 2: have to top end teams this year, who can keep
- 9:25Speaker 2: up with the Dodgers in a trade, they have the
- 9:27Speaker 2: prospects to make a trade them holding back at this
- 9:29Speaker 2: time seems weird. This is a rental, right, like you said, KP.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Even if you don't think next year is going to happen,
- 9:35Speaker 2: that's okay. This is only a two month guy, plus
- 9:38Speaker 2: the playoffs. Let's bring in JJ Cooper from Baseball America right.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Now, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
- 9:49Speaker 2: It's data dish presented by rap Sodo. All right, JJ,
- 9:52Speaker 2: let's get into this. Do you think it was weird
- 9:54Speaker 2: how their return looked or were you like yep? That
- 9:56Speaker 2: makes sense and nobody in the league could have touched this. No, okay,
- 10:00Speaker 2: the first part it makes sense. The second part, I
- 10:02Speaker 2: think absolutely other teams could have touched this. So when
- 10:05Speaker 2: you look at the parameters of this deal. I did
- 10:08Speaker 2: a piece last week where I studied seven times in
- 10:10Speaker 2: the twenty first century where a team traded what I
- 10:12Speaker 2: would describe as an absolute ace, like someone who Cy
- 10:15Speaker 2: Young winner or recently had been very high in cy
- 10:18Speaker 2: Young voting last year. Of a deal like the David
- 10:21Speaker 2: Price trade in twenty fifteen, like the Johnny Quato which
- 10:25Speaker 2: maybe is slightly less, but a Johnny Cuato trade to
- 10:27Speaker 2: the Royals, and you know the Max Scherzer trade in
- 10:30Speaker 2: twenty twenty one.
- 10:31Speaker 4: You know, trades like that. And there is a strange
- 10:34Speaker 4: consistency to this. If you look at all of these trades,
- 10:36Speaker 4: I found seven of them, and what you end up
- 10:39Speaker 4: seeing is is it's a top twenty five to seventy
- 10:42Speaker 4: five prospect generally that goes in the deal. That's the headliner.
- 10:46Speaker 4: And then there's another guy usually who's kind of fringe
- 10:49Speaker 4: of the top hundred, maybe not a top hundred prospect,
- 10:51Speaker 4: usually not a top hundred prospect that would be because
- 10:54Speaker 4: of the here hope for our rankings would be the headliner.
- 10:57Speaker 4: River Ryan would be that next guy right who's not
- 11:01Speaker 4: far off the top hundred. If you want to make
- 11:03Speaker 4: a case from on the back of the hundred, I
- 11:04Speaker 4: get it. We can get into the other reasons where
- 11:07Speaker 4: we would not have him in the hundred. You know,
- 11:08Speaker 4: the injury, issy issues, the soon to turn twenty eight,
- 11:12Speaker 4: all that, and then it usually is one or two
- 11:14Speaker 4: guys kind of from much further back on a team
- 11:17Speaker 4: top thirty. That's what Brady Smith is here and Brady
- 11:20Speaker 4: Smith again in a dinner system. Brady Smith could absolutely
- 11:23Speaker 4: be a top fifteen, top twenty prospect. He's an intriguing
- 11:27Speaker 4: prep pitcher who also has an injury history but having
- 11:29Speaker 4: a very good Year's got a good fastball, good changeup,
- 11:32Speaker 4: So that's not an unusual deal for an ace like this.
- 11:37Speaker 4: To go back to what you were saying on the
- 11:39Speaker 4: second part, though, and go about what you guys were
- 11:40Speaker 4: talking about before this, I do think I do wonder
- 11:43Speaker 4: if the Brewers or you know, especially the Brewers are
- 11:46Speaker 4: going to rue the day of why didn't we end
- 11:49Speaker 4: up going a little bit beyond those parameters? And I
- 11:53Speaker 4: think the Brewers could potentially have done it in a
- 11:55Speaker 4: couple of creative ways if the Tigers were willing. Again
- 11:57Speaker 4: that's always a question, but if they were where it's like, okay,
- 12:00Speaker 4: look it may not match up to be the exact
- 12:03Speaker 4: same deals what you're the Dodgers are offering, but we
- 12:06Speaker 4: think that this is more would you be interested. And
- 12:08Speaker 4: that's where I just think the idea of having Miserowski
- 12:12Speaker 4: and Schooble facing the Dodgers in a best of seven series,
- 12:16Speaker 4: the opportunity for that, the possibilities of that really go
- 12:19Speaker 4: for it to me. Kind of do say, maybe you
- 12:22Speaker 4: want to go a little bit outside of your normal
- 12:24Speaker 4: comfort zone of what you're willing.
- 12:25Speaker 3: To do in a trade, And do you find it
- 12:28Speaker 3: interesting that the Dodgers didn't give any major league ready
- 12:31Speaker 3: talent back considering kind of the depth of the rotation
- 12:35Speaker 3: and was there any kind of untouchables in the Dodgers organization.
- 12:38Speaker 3: I'm sure the Tigers had asked for.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, to frame it that way, like, let's talk
- 12:44Speaker 4: about the untouchables. The Dodgers gave up their third best
- 12:48Speaker 4: outfielder on their Double A Tulsa team. Now, I don't
- 12:52Speaker 4: mean their third best outfield prospect. I mean if you
- 12:55Speaker 4: look at Tulsa and you say, okay, hose Way to Paula,
- 12:57Speaker 4: that's probably an untouchable. That's a top ten prospect in baseball.
- 13:01Speaker 4: And I would say the guy who's probably going to
- 13:03Speaker 4: be Taoscar Hernandez replace me. He's not a great defender,
- 13:06Speaker 4: but the guy can really hit young. And then we
- 13:09Speaker 4: got Mike Saroda again, another guy that they picked up
- 13:11Speaker 4: in a trade Jake got from the Reds a couple
- 13:13Speaker 4: of years ago. But Mike Sroda, who's had the historic
- 13:16Speaker 4: on Bay Street this year, is a more athletic, more
- 13:20Speaker 4: dynamic a center fielder as opposed to these other guys
- 13:23Speaker 4: were corners. And then the here Hope was the third
- 13:25Speaker 4: outfield prospect on the team now, so here Hope has
- 13:28Speaker 4: a very good chance to be a big league regular,
- 13:29Speaker 4: be a solid big league regular in the corner outfield spot,
- 13:32Speaker 4: but on that team. And then you say, okay, well
- 13:34Speaker 4: what ou outfield prospects? I would say that Eduardo Cantaro,
- 13:37Speaker 4: who's at level below these guys, is also a better
- 13:39Speaker 4: outfield prospect than Hope. We have Hope fifty five on
- 13:42Speaker 4: our top hundred. The Dodgers have an absurd number of
- 13:45Speaker 4: outfield prospects. To the second point though, that you're saying,
- 13:48Speaker 4: I also do think that I am a little surprised,
- 13:53Speaker 4: Like if you want proximity, I know a lot of
- 13:56Speaker 4: people are talking about she and I don't know if
- 13:58Speaker 4: MG Sheen's actually would have been the right fit here.
- 14:00Speaker 4: If I'm the Tigers because I met Sheian's a lot
- 14:02Speaker 4: closer to he'll be arbitration eligible next year. You've got
- 14:05Speaker 4: years of control there, but he's not having a great
- 14:08Speaker 4: year this year, and you're you're kind of looking at Okay,
- 14:11Speaker 4: you've got a window there, but your windows for him
- 14:13Speaker 4: is going to be twenty seven, twenty eight, twenty nine,
- 14:16Speaker 4: you know, and then you get into the twenty thirty,
- 14:17Speaker 4: it's like cook, he's going to be getting expensive and
- 14:19Speaker 4: then he's going to be hitting free agency. I'm not
- 14:22Speaker 4: saying that if you said, okay, is amit Sheian better
- 14:25Speaker 4: than justin Roboleeski? Maybe, but I would say, if I
- 14:28Speaker 4: want proximity, I would have probably been very intrigued by
- 14:31Speaker 4: Roboleski because he's a leftee who's less, you know, much
- 14:36Speaker 4: further away from free agency, further away from arbitration, and
- 14:40Speaker 4: is having a better year this year. Now you could say,
- 14:42Speaker 4: maybe it's not as sustainable. We think Sheen is going
- 14:45Speaker 4: to be a little bit better long term all that
- 14:46Speaker 4: I can buy, but those are in the same range
- 14:49Speaker 4: and robo Esqui is going to be cheaper and you're
- 14:50Speaker 4: going to have him for longer. But then if you say, okay,
- 14:53Speaker 4: but let's go down the prospect side. If I'm the Dodgers,
- 14:56Speaker 4: I'm happy to give up River Ryan as opposed to
- 14:59Speaker 4: Christians as a waita, because in Zaswita's case, I would
- 15:03Speaker 4: say that, you know, in Zaswita's case, I would say
- 15:07Speaker 4: that you're getting the similar type of upside, but someone
- 15:11Speaker 4: who's much younger, it's a little bit further away. But
- 15:14Speaker 4: in River Ryan's case, you're talking about guy and we
- 15:16Speaker 4: can talk about more. It's like, my concernive River Ryan
- 15:19Speaker 4: is this guy, and I always a two way player.
- 15:21Speaker 4: In college he was, he was an infielder who also
- 15:23Speaker 4: pitched out the pen. But he's been pitching since twenty
- 15:26Speaker 4: seventeen in college baseball and pro baseball. And he's thrown
- 15:30Speaker 4: sixty innings in a season once in his career, and
- 15:34Speaker 4: that's twenty seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty twenty one. You know,
- 15:36Speaker 4: just keep going up the list, and he's done it once,
- 15:38Speaker 4: and yes, there are injury issues there, but on top
- 15:41Speaker 4: of that, so you're talking about a guy who's going
- 15:43Speaker 4: to be a rookie, you know, going to be twenty
- 15:45Speaker 4: eight before he throws his first pitch, for the Tigers,
- 15:47Speaker 4: and next year, even if you put him in your rotation,
- 15:51Speaker 4: you're not going to feel comfortable saying he can go
- 15:53Speaker 4: out and give me one hundred and you know, fifty
- 15:57Speaker 4: one hundred and seventy innings because he's never done that
- 15:59Speaker 4: in his life life and he threw He's at thirty
- 16:02Speaker 4: six innings this year, he's at basically no innings last year,
- 16:05Speaker 4: no innings the year before that. You know, it is
- 16:07Speaker 4: a you've got a stretch here of time where you're
- 16:11Speaker 4: gonna have to kind of ramp him up even if
- 16:13Speaker 4: he's ready to go. Teams don't normally like to say, Okay,
- 16:17Speaker 4: this guy has not has thrown one hundred innings once
- 16:19Speaker 4: of his life, but we feel comfortable that we can
- 16:21Speaker 4: just throw him out there for one hundred and fifty
- 16:23Speaker 4: each of the next four years.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Can you compare kind of the return for Scooble to
- 16:29Speaker 3: what you had just saw with Luis Castillo? And in
- 16:32Speaker 3: some ways do you think that the Mariner's got a
- 16:34Speaker 3: better return now?
- 16:36Speaker 4: I would say this is a much better We're we're
- 16:38Speaker 4: gonna roll out our ranking the traded prospects today and
- 16:42Speaker 4: this is our number one and our number two prospect traded,
- 16:45Speaker 4: then Brady Smith will be in that kind of next tier,
- 16:48Speaker 4: but not too far down it What the Mariners got
- 16:51Speaker 4: back for one they only got one prospect, is we evaluate, right,
- 16:54Speaker 4: So they got they did get they got big leaguers,
- 16:56Speaker 4: but you know they got a Saranthey do Mingez. You know,
- 16:59Speaker 4: we all know kind of know what Sir Anthony Dimingus is.
- 17:01Speaker 4: And I think some of that is salary relief. Right
- 17:03Speaker 4: He's on a two year, twenty million dollar deal, so
- 17:06Speaker 4: by sending him back, you kind of clear some salary
- 17:09Speaker 4: in this. And at this point Nolan Jones, I think
- 17:12Speaker 4: again that's just not really that's kind of almost a
- 17:15Speaker 4: window dressing part of this. Like Nolan Jones has had
- 17:19Speaker 4: not trying to knock him, but he said one good
- 17:20Speaker 4: year in the big leagues and that's now far enough
- 17:23Speaker 4: from move. That's several years ago down with the Rockies
- 17:25Speaker 4: traded to the Cleveland. It didn't hit for Cleveland, dropped
- 17:31Speaker 4: off the forty man. That's how he was kind of
- 17:32Speaker 4: moved into to the White Sox. And now I don't
- 17:35Speaker 4: expect him to be kind of a part of the
- 17:37Speaker 4: Mariner's plans over the rest of the season either. So
- 17:40Speaker 4: really you're talking about one prospect, which is the catcher
- 17:43Speaker 4: Boston Smith, who's intriguing. Now, that's a senior signed six
- 17:47Speaker 4: rounder from a couple of years ago, already been moved
- 17:49Speaker 4: twice because he was a Gnat who was then moved
- 17:52Speaker 4: in the Curtis Mead trade, who then the Nats turned
- 17:54Speaker 4: Curtis Mead into kind of lee early but goes to
- 17:58Speaker 4: the White Sox. Has had a real good year, has
- 18:00Speaker 4: had a dominant year, and had a dominant year by
- 18:03Speaker 4: the way, he was a second team All American for
- 18:04Speaker 4: US at right State in that senior season when he
- 18:07Speaker 4: was a six round pick. So this guy has a
- 18:09Speaker 4: track record Hitting's a really direct left handed stroke, you know,
- 18:13Speaker 4: left handed swing, and knows what he wants to do.
- 18:16Speaker 4: There's real pull power there. It's not like he's junior
- 18:18Speaker 4: Camanaro can hit the ball out to all you know,
- 18:20Speaker 4: all fields or anything. But if he gets a pitch,
- 18:22Speaker 4: especially up and end, he knows how to yank it
- 18:24Speaker 4: over the fence. There's real power there. And as a
- 18:27Speaker 4: defender he has a chance like he does gotten better
- 18:31Speaker 4: and better as a throat, you know, was his throwing.
- 18:33Speaker 4: There's a quick exchange he's relatively accurate, so that part's good,
- 18:37Speaker 4: and I would say he's a pretty good framer. The
- 18:39Speaker 4: part that is this giant, kind of big question mark
- 18:42Speaker 4: is he also, though, just takes pitches that are sometimes
- 18:45Speaker 4: borderlined with runners on and they clank off his glove
- 18:48Speaker 4: and they go to the backstop and you're like, okay,
- 18:50Speaker 4: you've gotta you obviously have to cut that out. You can.
- 18:53Speaker 4: It's one thing he's not great at blocking. But if
- 18:55Speaker 4: a pitcher throws out, you know, a fifty five footer
- 18:58Speaker 4: that ends up ten feet, you're right, Okay, if a
- 19:01Speaker 4: pitcher throws a pitch that's just on the edge of
- 19:03Speaker 4: the strike zone, you can't be failing to catch that.
- 19:07Speaker 4: You have to catch it before you worry about framing it.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Those kind of aspects are things where it could work
- 19:13Speaker 4: for him, but there's still some risk. I think he's
- 19:15Speaker 4: more of that. Is he in that same second tier
- 19:17Speaker 4: of prospects behind the river Ryans, behind obviously the zero
- 19:21Speaker 4: the hero Opes?
- 19:23Speaker 3: All right, I got one final question for you now
- 19:25Speaker 3: that Trek Scoop was off the board. And sometimes you
- 19:27Speaker 3: may get a little bit of a discount if you're
- 19:29Speaker 3: the team that jumps out early. Is this kind of
- 19:32Speaker 3: the has the market been set for starting pitching or
- 19:34Speaker 3: do you feel like some teams are going to get
- 19:36Speaker 3: desperate and will kind of, you know, maybe go beyond
- 19:40Speaker 3: that prospect package to maybe get a Kevin Gosman or
- 19:43Speaker 3: a Shane Bieber, whoever these other kind of free agent
- 19:46Speaker 3: picture rentals are going to be.
- 19:49Speaker 4: I would say this has to set the market because
- 19:51Speaker 4: if you end up paying more for Kevin Gossman, if
- 19:55Speaker 4: you end up paying more for Casey Miz let's just
- 19:57Speaker 4: take another example from the Tigers, then you would for
- 20:00Speaker 4: Trek's Google. Then rightfully everyone should ask, well, what the
- 20:04Speaker 4: hell are you doing? Because you know, if you're willing
- 20:07Speaker 4: to go that like, oh that pitcher's off the board,
- 20:10Speaker 4: we got to get someone else, then you should have
- 20:12Speaker 4: been doing at the start, because like when we talk
- 20:14Speaker 4: about these potential what the Brewers could have done here,
- 20:17Speaker 4: what the Rays could have done? Like I don't think
- 20:20Speaker 4: it's a perfect matchup, Like, but if the Brewers, if
- 20:23Speaker 4: I'm the Brewers in this trade and you say, okay,
- 20:25Speaker 4: look I don't want to trade Logan Henderson part of this.
- 20:28Speaker 4: I get that Logan Henderson is a very good starter
- 20:30Speaker 4: for me. Right now, and I'm expecting him to pitch
- 20:33Speaker 4: in our rotation in the postseason, so I don't want
- 20:36Speaker 4: to give him back. Well, what I'm doing to kind
- 20:38Speaker 4: of what you know, what y'all were talking about before
- 20:40Speaker 4: I came on. I'm saying, look, could I offer you
- 20:45Speaker 4: quantity to outweigh if you really like River Ryan, I
- 20:49Speaker 4: can give you a Bishop Letson, I can give you
- 20:51Speaker 4: some arms that. Maybe I can give you a Brandon
- 20:54Speaker 4: Sprote right like again, I can give you arms that
- 20:56Speaker 4: maybe our next maybe you like as much as Ryan,
- 20:58Speaker 4: maybe he's a you're under Okay, But what about if
- 21:02Speaker 4: I said, instead of I'm going to give you as
- 21:03Speaker 4: a here Hope type, I can give you Louise Paygnell
- 21:05Speaker 4: or someone like that that you're going to consider equivalent.
- 21:08Speaker 4: But what about if I can then give you a
- 21:10Speaker 4: Josiah Ragsdale or an Andrew Fisher or a Blake Burke
- 21:14Speaker 4: or a josh Adamcheski or we've got five guys in
- 21:18Speaker 4: the DSL who are all really alluring. I can give
- 21:21Speaker 4: you one of those in this deal, and so like,
- 21:24Speaker 4: instead of it being you get these three guys, I'll
- 21:27Speaker 4: give you five. Now, I'm not going to tell you
- 21:29Speaker 4: that the number two maybe that your number two prospect
- 21:32Speaker 4: you're getting back here is a little bit lower than
- 21:34Speaker 4: what you're talking about miss Dodgers deal. But there is
- 21:37Speaker 4: kind of also the law of numbers here, which is,
- 21:39Speaker 4: if I get five of these guys, I'm going to
- 21:43Speaker 4: have more chance that something blossoms out of this than
- 21:46Speaker 4: if I get three. That's where I think that the Brewers,
- 21:49Speaker 4: with their depth of their farm system and all, could
- 21:52Speaker 4: have gotten kind of creative on this and maybe been
- 21:55Speaker 4: able to fashion a deal that works for them and
- 21:57Speaker 4: maybe works for the Tigers.
- 22:00Speaker 2: So my last question, JJ, does it feel weird at
- 22:02Speaker 2: all this whole situation? And I ask this because it's
- 22:05Speaker 2: not like the industry is valuing trek Scouble too differently. Right,
- 22:08Speaker 2: Sometimes we look at a player in a trade or
- 22:10Speaker 2: signing and you're like, Eh, maybe the industry doesn't love him.
- 22:12Speaker 2: The industry loves trek School, There's no doubt about that.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Twenty twenty three, the Texas Rangers pick up Jordan Montgomery.
- 22:18Speaker 2: The Diamondbacks are one of those teams that bid for him.
- 22:20Speaker 2: He ends up being one of the difference makers in
- 22:22Speaker 2: the Rangers winning a World Series. That is the point
- 22:25Speaker 2: of us doing all of this right, So to me,
- 22:28Speaker 2: it's a little bit confusing. I know we're picking on
- 22:30Speaker 2: the Brewers, and I definitely think it's weird there. Do
- 22:33Speaker 2: you think it's weird that any other teams weren't more involved.
- 22:35Speaker 2: I know we don't know what the prospect offers were yet,
- 22:38Speaker 2: but you can speak to this. Almost any team could
- 22:41Speaker 2: have kept up with the Dodgers. Would they have had
- 22:43Speaker 2: to make it hurt a little bit more based on
- 22:45Speaker 2: maybe not having as much depth in their farm system. Yes,
- 22:49Speaker 2: But the other three, four or five teams that we
- 22:51Speaker 2: thought could have been in the mix for him could
- 22:53Speaker 2: have come up with the package to do this.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Do you agree or disagree?
- 22:56Speaker 2: Even if it's not like, hey, let me go down
- 22:57Speaker 2: the line of this player matching this player could have been. Hey,
- 23:00Speaker 2: I mean, I know the Rays have THEO Gillan and
- 23:02Speaker 2: that's a higher rated prospect than all of these guys.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Cam Kimminiddi for the Braves. Get into what this could
- 23:07Speaker 2: have looked like for other teams, because some people are like, oh,
- 23:10Speaker 2: other teams couldn't do this.
- 23:11Speaker 1: I'm like, yes, they could.
- 23:13Speaker 4: If you would. I did a piece at Baseball America
- 23:16Speaker 4: on I think it was Thursday also for this, where
- 23:18Speaker 4: I looked at six or seven teams potential packages for
- 23:23Speaker 4: you know, for Scooble, and I would say I said
- 23:25Speaker 4: in it like I laid it out like I'm expecting
- 23:27Speaker 4: a bidding war at that time, and so I went
- 23:29Speaker 4: kind of that what we said before. The parameters we
- 23:31Speaker 4: normally see is one twenty five to seventy five prospect,
- 23:34Speaker 4: one fringe of the top hundred, top ten prospect, and
- 23:36Speaker 4: another top thirty or maybe two. I went little higher
- 23:38Speaker 4: than that, and I could come to like six or
- 23:41Speaker 4: seven teams that had no problem reaching that. Like if
- 23:44Speaker 4: you say the Cubs, if the Cubs are willing to
- 23:46Speaker 4: trade Josiah Ragsdale in this deal, who's a very intriguing hitter,
- 23:50Speaker 4: you know, outfield corner, outfield prospect. He's I think every
- 23:53Speaker 4: bit as interesting as the here Hope. Yes, that could
- 23:55Speaker 4: be the cornerstone, and I could absolutely get you to
- 23:57Speaker 4: a Cubs deal. If the Braves, I don't know if
- 24:00Speaker 4: Eric Cartman would be available. If Eric Cartman's available, I'd
- 24:03Speaker 4: say he's better as a prospect for this then see
- 24:05Speaker 4: here Hope. That's another outfield prospect, true center fielder, dynamic,
- 24:09Speaker 4: you know, power speed guy, little risk ear because it's
- 24:12Speaker 4: a little further away, but not by much. Hia versus
- 24:15Speaker 4: double a younger all that. Okay, that's the corner him
- 24:18Speaker 4: and Ken Cam and Eddie we're talking about. Absolutely you
- 24:20Speaker 4: can outdo what the what the Dodgers offered. We talked
- 24:24Speaker 4: about the Brewers. I think the Rays there even without
- 24:26Speaker 4: THEO Gillen, because you could say, hey, we'll give you
- 24:28Speaker 4: Brody Hopkins and we can give you a catcher between
- 24:31Speaker 4: Ken Bodon and Nathan Fluelling. We can give you you know,
- 24:35Speaker 4: Tatan Gray is a very intriguing power prospect or Cooper
- 24:38Speaker 4: Fleming and or like all these teams if they wanted to. Again,
- 24:43Speaker 4: it depends on what the Tigers want. But I could
- 24:45Speaker 4: say that all of these teams, even without talking touching
- 24:47Speaker 4: into that the THEO Gillans of the world, these teams,
- 24:51Speaker 4: even without getting for the Brewers into the Jesus Mideis
- 24:54Speaker 4: of the world, they could get to a deal that
- 24:57Speaker 4: is at least as good, if not better than the Dodgers.
- 25:00Speaker 4: But to go back to your first point on this too,
- 25:03Speaker 4: I think the other part of this is the Dodgers
- 25:08Speaker 4: have this colid you know, Goliath here, this is this
- 25:13Speaker 4: monolith that basically they know they could make this trade,
- 25:18Speaker 4: and because of the way they do things and the
- 25:21Speaker 4: resources they have, they don't have any worry that this trade.
- 25:26Speaker 4: There's no scenario whereas the here Hope and River Ryan
- 25:29Speaker 4: and Brady Smith them going away is in any way
- 25:33Speaker 4: going to derail what the Dodgers are able to do
- 25:36Speaker 4: for twenty seven, twenty twenty nine, thirty. If you said
- 25:40Speaker 4: that Trek Scugle for some you know whatever reason, was
- 25:42Speaker 4: unable to pitch for the Dodgers the rest of the season,
- 25:45Speaker 4: if they just basically by acquiring him, just took him
- 25:48Speaker 4: off the board for anyone else, that would still be like,
- 25:51Speaker 4: the Dodgers are fine going forward because we just said
- 25:55Speaker 4: they are still have more outfielders in Double A and
- 25:58Speaker 4: beyond then we can possibly fit into their big league
- 26:01Speaker 4: lineup over the next couple of years. Where this gets
- 26:04Speaker 4: tougher for the other teams I think is the other teams,
- 26:07Speaker 4: the Brewers and Rays of being prime examples of this.
- 26:11Speaker 4: The Brewers, to their credit, just keep rolling along right
- 26:15Speaker 4: like they have been a playoff contender now long enough
- 26:19Speaker 4: that the guys who were kind of the surprise developments
- 26:23Speaker 4: that were key to the kind of getting them into contention.
- 26:25Speaker 4: The Freddie Peraltas, the Brandon Woodruffs, you know, the Devin Williams,
- 26:31Speaker 4: all those guys, the Josh haters like they've been they're
- 26:35Speaker 4: either gone or in Woodrof's case, they're hurt and they're
- 26:37Speaker 4: still there. And why is that? Just because they're kind
- 26:41Speaker 4: of one of those teams operating in the We never
- 26:44Speaker 4: shove all in for this year. We always keep us competitive.
- 26:48Speaker 4: We can be really good this year, and we can
- 26:50Speaker 4: do it again next year. And it is true that
- 26:53Speaker 4: a team like the Brewers is going to take the
- 26:56Speaker 4: hit if they make a schoobl trade and it doesn't
- 26:59Speaker 4: work out. As far as Schooble, the players they're giving
- 27:02Speaker 4: up are going to take much more. Uh, it's going
- 27:05Speaker 4: to hurt them much more over the next few years,
- 27:07Speaker 4: even with all the prospect that they have. That it
- 27:09Speaker 4: would the Dodgers, because they're obviously they're not going out
- 27:12Speaker 4: there and saying, oh, is Kyle Tucker on the market, Great,
- 27:14Speaker 4: we'll sign him. Oh, you know, is We'll just get
- 27:16Speaker 4: the best free agent every year. They can't do that,
- 27:19Speaker 4: so they're there. They look at it. I think as
- 27:21Speaker 4: their opportunities are smaller.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I get it, but at some point you got
- 27:26Speaker 2: to push in. You're you're giving the practical answer. The
- 27:29Speaker 2: fan response right now is like if not now when.
- 27:33Speaker 4: So it's just like not disagree with that.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Yeah, we're looking at a time period here where if
- 27:38Speaker 2: we see the Brewers get dusted by the Dodgers and
- 27:40Speaker 2: it's Schooble beating them in one or two of the games,
- 27:42Speaker 2: they're going to be like, what are we doing here?
- 27:44Speaker 2: Like what is the point of actually owning a team
- 27:46Speaker 2: and doing all of this? But hey, good for the Dodgers.
- 27:49Speaker 2: They keep capitalizing. They've done an awesome job building up prospects.
- 27:52Speaker 1: JJ. Thanks so much for the time, appreciate it.
- 27:54Speaker 2: We'll talk to you this week and I've actually talked
- 27:56Speaker 2: to you Tomorro on the Trade Deadline Show at some point.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Go check out baseball for all of the info on
- 28:01Speaker 2: the prospect returns coming through on all of these trades
- 28:04Speaker 2: over the weekend and going forward. And also this segment
- 28:08Speaker 2: was presented by rap Sodo. Whether you're building a program,
- 28:12Speaker 2: developing players, or just tired of guessing, go to rapsodo
- 28:14Speaker 2: dot com and learn more about how data wins.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Rap Sodo helps you use.
- 28:19Speaker 2: It hot corner time, and it's presented by the Fox
- 28:35Speaker 2: one app to watch teams like the Detroit Tigers next
- 28:39Speaker 2: weekend on Fox. Mike Petrello said mildly surprised the Tigers
- 28:42Speaker 2: made this move before last second, because they've been playing
- 28:45Speaker 2: six hundred ball since June one. They have the third
- 28:47Speaker 2: best run differential in the American League. They could be
- 28:49Speaker 2: just two games out of the wild card with a
- 28:51Speaker 2: win tomorrow.
- 28:51Speaker 1: This was yesterday.
- 28:52Speaker 2: They're two and a half hour right now, by the
- 28:53Speaker 2: way KP and he mentioned how a playoff rotation of
- 28:56Speaker 2: Tag Scoople Caseymi is having a good season, Troy, Who's
- 29:00Speaker 2: I think, one of the top young pitchers in the
- 29:02Speaker 2: sport not getting talked about, plus from Rivaldez would have
- 29:05Speaker 2: been noisy. Do you think that the Tigers should have
- 29:09Speaker 2: helped these guys or was this the right move to
- 29:11Speaker 2: get a package for Trek Schouble before he leaves.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Yes and yes, I don't know the answer. I mean,
- 29:19Speaker 3: I think when you were in a position like the
- 29:21Speaker 3: Tigers are in, you know, and they've been playing good
- 29:24Speaker 3: baseball over the last couple of years, I know they
- 29:26Speaker 3: didn't get off to a really good start, but they
- 29:28Speaker 3: have been playing really good baseball. And when you go
- 29:31Speaker 3: out and you go out and sign a guy like
- 29:34Speaker 3: Framer to join Trekschubel, I think you owe it to yourself.
- 29:38Speaker 3: I think you owe it to your team. I think
- 29:39Speaker 3: you owe it to your city to kind of see
- 29:41Speaker 3: it through the fact that they're two and a half back.
- 29:44Speaker 3: And it's not like the American League has just kind
- 29:46Speaker 3: of been dominated by a certain teams. You know, the
- 29:50Speaker 3: Rays have kind of gone off to a good start
- 29:53Speaker 3: and kind of kind of maintained it. The Yankees have
- 29:55Speaker 3: kind of been up and down. Obviously, the Red Sox
- 29:57Speaker 3: kind of came out of nowhere, but no one really
- 30:00Speaker 3: in the American League is kind of running away with it,
- 30:03Speaker 3: very similar to where the Dodgers are at. So I
- 30:05Speaker 3: can see sides where, you know, if I'm you know,
- 30:09Speaker 3: in position of power there, I'm kind of seeing it through.
- 30:12Speaker 3: But you also do understand, you know, you you have
- 30:15Speaker 3: a guy like Trek Scoogle maybe one time in your organization,
- 30:19Speaker 3: and he has the ability to walk at the end
- 30:21Speaker 3: of the year, and more than likely the Detroit Tigers
- 30:23Speaker 3: are not going to resign them, So you do have
- 30:26Speaker 3: the ability to capitalize and get a big return back
- 30:30Speaker 3: and from what we've just learned, where what I just learned,
- 30:34Speaker 3: you know, potentially they could have got a lot more
- 30:37Speaker 3: I think from some other teams, or I think they
- 30:39Speaker 3: probably could have got a lot more from the Dodgers.
- 30:41Speaker 3: But it's a really tough position to be in. You know,
- 30:45Speaker 3: I think if they would have been playing a little
- 30:47Speaker 3: bit worse leading up to the deadline, I think it
- 30:50Speaker 3: makes it a little bit easier decision to go out
- 30:52Speaker 3: and say, hey, you know what, we rolled the dice,
- 30:55Speaker 3: you know this offseason, you know when and who's who's
- 30:58Speaker 3: to say what the package was this season? Trek Scoogle
- 31:01Speaker 3: coming off of a back to back Cy Young pre
- 31:04Speaker 3: kind of elbow surgery, did they have an opportunity to
- 31:07Speaker 3: get more? You know, knowing that he could have been
- 31:10Speaker 3: part of a new team for an entire year, you
- 31:13Speaker 3: know the fact that he's going to join the Dodgers
- 31:14Speaker 3: for two months maybe kind of shrinks that prospect package
- 31:18Speaker 3: a little bit. But it's really tough because I don't
- 31:23Speaker 3: think anyone's really running away with the American League. You know,
- 31:27Speaker 3: obviously the Dodgers are the Dodgers. You got to ultimately
- 31:29Speaker 3: get there too, and the Dodgers have to get there
- 31:31Speaker 3: to play them. But the fact that you just gave
- 31:35Speaker 3: them Trek Schoogle and say the Tigers don't do anything else,
- 31:38Speaker 3: do they still kind of have depth in the rotation
- 31:41Speaker 3: to still potentially go on a run, win the division,
- 31:44Speaker 3: get a wild card. I don't know.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it would be surprising though, to trade Schooble and
- 31:50Speaker 2: then hold say Casey Mize. All right, let's bring up
- 31:53Speaker 2: one more tweet. Cody Decker, very opinionated in the industry,
- 31:58Speaker 2: nose ball said, confused, there are days left till deadline,
- 32:01Speaker 2: no one tried to make a better offer. Makes me
- 32:02Speaker 2: think perhaps some ownership team ownerships actually wanted this to
- 32:06Speaker 2: happen for CBA narrative purposes.
- 32:08Speaker 1: The last sentence he uses there, that's actually a fact.
- 32:12Speaker 2: If ownership is united, right KP, and they want the
- 32:16Speaker 2: sport to drastically change and create a cap and all
- 32:18Speaker 2: of that, and that's cool, then this is what you're
- 32:21Speaker 2: rooting for. You're rooting for the Dodgers to get every
- 32:23Speaker 2: player to a level where it almost seems unfair, and
- 32:27Speaker 2: then for them to cruise to a World Series title
- 32:29Speaker 2: heading into a lockout year. Now, the interesting part gets
- 32:34Speaker 2: to how much do they care. Did they care enough
- 32:37Speaker 2: that everyone was like, yeah, we're not going to give
- 32:39Speaker 2: our best offer for Tyrek Schooble. We'll let the Dodgers
- 32:43Speaker 2: get him. We'll go for the next tier down, you know,
- 32:46Speaker 2: we'll go for Robbie Ray or Freddie Perrault to somebody
- 32:49Speaker 2: like that. We'll let the Dodgers get Schooble and make
- 32:52Speaker 2: the biggest impact in the postseason. Hey, and we don't
- 32:54Speaker 2: know what's going to happen, right, Dodgers could have this
- 32:57Speaker 2: super monstars team and still get slaid the last two years.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Two years ago, the Padres decided to hit for five seconds,
- 33:04Speaker 2: they take down the Dodgers. Last year, I mean, you
- 33:06Speaker 2: were at the World Series watching the Blue Jays inches
- 33:09Speaker 2: away multiple times. Crazy crazy World Series. Miguel Rojas had
- 33:13Speaker 2: to rescue them late. The Dodgers are putting themselves in
- 33:16Speaker 2: a position to succeed. Things are going their way in
- 33:19Speaker 2: the World Series, like we saw last year in a
- 33:21Speaker 2: seven gamer that was absolutely an epic classic. But I
- 33:26Speaker 2: agree with Cody on this one. It's not even just
- 33:29Speaker 2: what are the actions that are being taken Any owner
- 33:31Speaker 2: or at least most owners in baseball that all sit
- 33:34Speaker 2: in a room together and say we're going to shut
- 33:36Speaker 2: the sport down for a long period of time are
- 33:38Speaker 2: looking for the Dodgers to be in this pedestal by themselves.
- 33:42Speaker 2: That part is for sure. I mean, we're getting ads
- 33:44Speaker 2: about salary caps like that. Stuff all makes sense. So
- 33:48Speaker 2: do you think players feel weird about this or they
- 33:50Speaker 2: don't care at all? Do you think players look around like,
- 33:52Speaker 2: why couldn't my team make an offer that didn't even
- 33:56Speaker 2: include a top five prospect in my system?
- 34:00Speaker 3: I definitely think there's certain players. There are certain players
- 34:02Speaker 3: that are a little bit more kind of involved and
- 34:06Speaker 3: kind of put on that fantasy GM hat and know
- 34:08Speaker 3: their farm system a little bit better than most players.
- 34:11Speaker 3: I personally wasn't a guy that knew all the prospects
- 34:15Speaker 3: by name and like their rankings and stuff. But there
- 34:18Speaker 3: were certain times where I'm like, I think we probably
- 34:20Speaker 3: could have got that guy. So I think there's a
- 34:22Speaker 3: lot of players that go or don't even really care
- 34:25Speaker 3: what they have to give up. It's like, hey, we're
- 34:27Speaker 3: in this, we want to win this. Why didn't my
- 34:30Speaker 3: team go out regardless of who we had to give up?
- 34:33Speaker 3: We have a great team here. Terrek Scuba would have
- 34:36Speaker 3: put us over the top, would have made us, you know,
- 34:38Speaker 3: potentially favorites to go out and win a World Series.
- 34:42Speaker 3: So there's definitely people. My initial take though, and I
- 34:46Speaker 3: know you have your kind of theories, and I don't
- 34:49Speaker 3: think you're wrong. I don't think it's far off. But
- 34:51Speaker 3: I think when I saw it on the Tigger last night,
- 34:53Speaker 3: when I was watching the TV, my wife was sitting
- 34:55Speaker 3: there and she doesn't really care, but I told her,
- 34:58Speaker 3: I'm like, the best available player just went to the Dodgers,
- 35:02Speaker 3: And I said, do you know, if they win the
- 35:03Speaker 3: World Series, baseball is not happening next year? And she's like,
- 35:06Speaker 3: what do you mean. I was trying to explain it
- 35:08Speaker 3: to her a little bit. How deep that goes in
- 35:10Speaker 3: terms of did every other owner in baseball want this
- 35:13Speaker 3: to happen. I could make an argument for that too.
- 35:16Speaker 3: I could totally understand it. But my initial take was,
- 35:19Speaker 3: oh man, this is not great. That being said, every
- 35:23Speaker 3: team had the opportunity to outbid the Dodgers, and I
- 35:26Speaker 3: think that's where things get a little bit misunderstood. From
- 35:30Speaker 3: a fans perspective. Everyone that isn't a Dodger fan is
- 35:34Speaker 3: upset at the Dodgers for what they did, But every
- 35:37Speaker 3: other team had the ability to go out and outbid
- 35:41Speaker 3: the Dodgers for Tek Scougel's services. So there's not a
- 35:45Speaker 3: lot of blame to be put on the Dodgers. I
- 35:47Speaker 3: think there's a lot of blame to put on all
- 35:49Speaker 3: the other teams in baseball. Ultimately, the Dodgers do what
- 35:51Speaker 3: the Dodgers do. They go out, they want someone, They
- 35:54Speaker 3: put a package together and potentially it was the best one.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Or like you said, there is this something happening behind
- 36:01Speaker 3: closed doors, and this is gonna be the biggest talk.
- 36:03Speaker 3: This is gonna be the biggest story for a long time.
- 36:05Speaker 3: And god forbid, if the Dodgers go out and three
- 36:07Speaker 3: peete this year, it's gonna be a long time before
- 36:10Speaker 3: we see baseball game.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:12Speaker 2: I hope it's a fun, competitive postseason and we definitely
- 36:15Speaker 2: have whatever you want to call it, an evil empire,
- 36:17Speaker 2: a team that is so heavily favored right now based
- 36:21Speaker 2: on this return props of the Dodgers. They're just operating
- 36:23Speaker 2: at a different level because these are trades. This is
- 36:25Speaker 2: not a money situation, and the fact that they have
- 36:27Speaker 2: such a strong farm system makes you think, what are
- 36:31Speaker 2: they doing well that some other teams like the Mets
- 36:34Speaker 2: are not. Right, the Mets are not competing for a
- 36:36Speaker 2: playoff bid this year, They're going to trade away ten guys.
- 36:39Speaker 2: They're the next highest team in payroll. So clearly the
- 36:42Speaker 2: Dodgers are just operating and firing on all cylinders right now. Hey,
- 36:46Speaker 2: when it comes to the Tigers, like I mentioned, you
- 36:48Speaker 2: can watch them next weekend to see if they have
- 36:50Speaker 2: any players left, but they'll be talking all about what's
- 36:54Speaker 2: going on with them. There's a number of games next
