- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:04Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Don't tell them, all right, and welcome back to No Dribble,
- 0:23Speaker 2: the podcast where we talk about netfill, but we talk
- 0:25Speaker 2: about a whole lot of other things aside. It is
- 0:27Speaker 2: a big week The nation has gone into morning at
- 0:29Speaker 2: the end of the supernet Fall season, so we are
- 0:31Speaker 2: feeling a bit sad, but hopefully today we will make
- 0:33Speaker 2: you feel better. My name's Carolyn Swendell. I'm a writer
- 0:36Speaker 2: and comedian. I'm here in Sydney and I am.
- 0:37Speaker 3: With cath Cox, who's not just said a little tired,
- 0:40Speaker 3: gotta say yeah weekend.
- 0:44Speaker 2: And far up on the North Coast we.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Have it is also a little bit tired. Who feels
- 0:51Speaker 1: like I've been hit by a bus today? Actually, Grand
- 0:53Speaker 1: Final weekend is huge.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Yeah that was not the bus, just so.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Murder on the dance floor. Yeah, so it looked like
- 1:05Speaker 2: a fabulous weekend. I can watch the game obviously until
- 1:07Speaker 2: half past eleven on Saturday night. But I did, I did,
- 1:10Speaker 2: I did. I went black. We had dribblers running poles
- 1:13Speaker 2: on my behalf. We'll get to that later on. But
- 1:15Speaker 2: it's like, Carolyn, A, we're having a poll this week.
- 1:16Speaker 2: It's like, I can't, I can't watch this.
- 1:18Speaker 3: I wonder why there was radio silence on that. I
- 1:21Speaker 3: thought you'd be all over now. So you did, I did?
- 1:23Speaker 4: I did.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I went dark. So I watched it all and I
- 1:26Speaker 2: was able to not know what the result was like
- 1:29Speaker 2: everyone else until the very last second. I didn't know
- 1:32Speaker 2: what the result was, which I think is the best
- 1:33Speaker 2: result for netball, isn't it?
- 1:35Speaker 3: But you kind of knew what the result was going
- 1:36Speaker 3: to be because you initially tipped the Vixens.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I did even it up, though, didn't I In the
- 1:41Speaker 2: same video, I did also tip the Thunderbirds. So we've
- 1:44Speaker 2: taken that curse out of the equation. And I will
- 1:47Speaker 2: not be accepting any correspondence from Vixen's fans who want
- 1:50Speaker 2: to blame this stuff.
- 1:50Speaker 3: On me, but plenty of other people that can blame.
- 1:53Speaker 2: My heart goes Carolyn.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Is it weird to sort of know that, even though
- 1:57Speaker 1: you could find out the result, you don't like I'm
- 2:00Speaker 1: never that disciplined.
- 2:01Speaker 4: I've been able to do it.
- 2:03Speaker 2: It's so weird, and it took like the number of
- 2:05Speaker 2: times during the night I had to put my phone
- 2:07Speaker 2: down and say, don't look at the phone and tell
- 2:09Speaker 2: people don't tell me the netball score, and they're looking
- 2:11Speaker 2: at me like, yeah, well, if we're at a comedy
- 2:13Speaker 2: club on a Saturday night instead of watching the Grand Final,
- 2:15Speaker 2: we're pretty well not going to be telling you the
- 2:16Speaker 2: netball score anyway. But yeah, it was very hard for me.
- 2:20Speaker 2: But what was harder as I got home and my
- 2:23Speaker 2: husband had been waiting up for our son, who had
- 2:25Speaker 2: been to a party. He only got home just before
- 2:27Speaker 2: I did, and he was ready for bed, and I went,
- 2:30Speaker 2: I might just have a glass of wine and watch
- 2:31Speaker 2: the Grand Final. So he sat up with me and
- 2:33Speaker 2: we watched it together lat night. No, my husband, everyone
- 2:38Speaker 2: was ready for bed, but we had an early start
- 2:40Speaker 2: that day because we did get to play some netball
- 2:42Speaker 2: on Saturday morning too.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I saw that, Now, how did they go when they
- 2:46Speaker 3: finally got there? Did you get a win?
- 2:47Speaker 1: Yet?
- 2:49Speaker 2: We had no subs. They all had to play a
- 2:52Speaker 2: full game and I didn't shuffle them around. It's like
- 2:53Speaker 2: everyone stays in their position for the whole game. And
- 2:55Speaker 2: that was that was really good.
- 2:56Speaker 5: So I love that.
- 2:58Speaker 2: But anyway, for about that, Liz, you looked amazing in
- 3:03Speaker 2: that blue pants suit on Saturday night.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Oh thanks, has a little bit of a gift from
- 3:08Speaker 1: Perry Cutts, and that was very nice of them to
- 3:09Speaker 1: do that for me.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I loved my suit. I felt very fancy in it.
- 3:13Speaker 4: But you know, you get a lot of laugh for
- 3:14Speaker 4: this sort of stuff, and your head can get big,
- 3:16Speaker 4: but then there's always a teenage girl who can who
- 3:19Speaker 4: can bring you down.
- 3:22Speaker 2: You made one, yes, well this is this is not
- 3:25Speaker 2: one that I made. This is one of my sister
- 3:27Speaker 2: made and I adorn my kneece Friday.
- 3:30Speaker 1: She's sixteen. She's an outstanding human and she didn't mean
- 3:33Speaker 1: to be me. But I ordered ages ago two pairs
- 3:37Speaker 1: of you know, the spray jeans.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yeah you're wearing those on Friday, you guys at lunch.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Yeah, you're incredible.
- 3:47Speaker 1: You complimented me on those jeans, So I ordered. When
- 3:49Speaker 1: I ordered them, I ordered them off a website that
- 3:52Speaker 1: has a tall person section of tall girls section, obviously,
- 3:55Speaker 1: which is fair. Tell me what that's called, because that,
- 3:58Speaker 1: like I care, that's what it's called. So I ordered
- 4:06Speaker 1: two pairs because you know, when you order stuff online,
- 4:08Speaker 1: you're like oh, I don't know which one's going to
- 4:10Speaker 1: fit me. And one of them fitted me perfectly, which
- 4:12Speaker 1: is the ones that you saw. And then another pair
- 4:13Speaker 1: were a little too small, and I had intended to
- 4:16Speaker 1: send them back, but I don't.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Know about you guys. I have to do a lot
- 4:18Speaker 4: of online shopping because I live in the country, and
- 4:20Speaker 4: I'm just hopeless. I just forget to send things back.
- 4:23Speaker 4: And this pair of jeans sat on my desk phrases,
- 4:25Speaker 4: and I picked them up last week and thought I've
- 4:27Speaker 4: missed the deadline?
- 4:28Speaker 2: Was this sitting in their past? The same one?
- 4:31Speaker 4: It was bit on you guys.
- 4:39Speaker 3: How funny that we both remembered that.
- 4:43Speaker 4: That's too funny. Think about that when I was telling
- 4:47Speaker 4: this story.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Anyway, I finally got around it because I tied in
- 4:50Speaker 1: my office last week.
- 4:51Speaker 4: I finally got around doing something with them.
- 4:53Speaker 1: And my sixteen year old niece was at our place
- 4:55Speaker 1: last weekend and I said to her our brides. I
- 4:58Speaker 1: pulled them out and I said, look, these are small
- 5:00Speaker 1: for me.
- 5:00Speaker 4: And she's almost my height, but she's got a sixteen
- 5:02Speaker 4: year old's kid's body. And I said, do you want
- 5:06Speaker 4: the figure?
- 5:07Speaker 1: And she goes, oh, no, thanks, and I'm sort, are
- 5:10Speaker 1: you sure like you might wear them? She goes, oh,
- 5:13Speaker 1: I might wear them for fancy dress.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Boom, what's right?
- 5:20Speaker 1: It's like for nice I don't know what's sixteen year
- 5:24Speaker 1: olds were, but clearly they're for fancy dress.
- 5:26Speaker 4: I was gathered. I'm like, it's my fashion so bad.
- 5:28Speaker 1: That like a young, beautiful, gorgeous sixteen year old goes, yeah,
- 5:32Speaker 1: that'd be good for fancy dress, but not to actually
- 5:35Speaker 1: wear in public.
- 5:36Speaker 3: I think it's the skinny legs because that's the generation thing,
- 5:39Speaker 3: isn't it that? And that is us and you rock
- 5:42Speaker 3: them because you've got great.
- 5:43Speaker 2: And honestly, I will wear that to my grave too,
- 5:46Speaker 2: So I don't care if you don't think I'm cool.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Same, And you know what, I think.
- 5:52Speaker 1: To do skinny leg jeans properly, you've got to do,
- 5:55Speaker 1: you know, like your cool runners, and you need ankle
- 5:57Speaker 1: lenks socks. And I think that that generation doesn't do
- 6:00Speaker 1: angle socks, because they do long socks.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Cruise socks, aren't they?
- 6:03Speaker 3: So do you think which one came first? The jeans
- 6:05Speaker 3: or the socks, like the chicken or the egg? Did
- 6:07Speaker 3: the sock trend come first?
- 6:08Speaker 2: And then they realized now I think they went off
- 6:10Speaker 2: to jeans first, and the side part was the other
- 6:12Speaker 2: thing that is apparently. And I will say, having watched
- 6:16Speaker 2: so many center parties over the course of the Supernetball season,
- 6:20Speaker 2: I think it might be helpful for traction alopecia that
- 6:23Speaker 2: if you're parting in the center and then pulling your
- 6:25Speaker 2: hair back into a tight ponytail, it might actually be
- 6:28Speaker 2: a better solution to keep it more gentle around the
- 6:32Speaker 2: around the temples.
- 6:33Speaker 3: There or you bawled evenly.
- 6:35Speaker 2: You yeah, you go straight back, yeah.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Instead of.
- 6:40Speaker 1: A great big bald part down the middle and it
- 6:42Speaker 1: just all forth and end up with a ball patch
- 6:44Speaker 1: on top.
- 6:44Speaker 4: I don't know, but it just absolutely hurt just how
- 6:47Speaker 4: far away I am from what's trendy. But I reckon also,
- 6:51Speaker 4: Like I remember I was in year nine or year ten,
- 6:54Speaker 4: which is the same year my nieces, and I remember
- 6:56Speaker 4: wearing long socks and pulling them up over my trackid
- 6:58Speaker 4: ats and tucking your train's.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I think that's yeah.
- 7:01Speaker 1: So I feel like fashion cyclical, and I have a
- 7:05Speaker 1: bit of an unwritten rule that once you've worn a
- 7:07Speaker 1: fashion you actually can't come back to it. I remember
- 7:10Speaker 1: a few years ago bubbleskirts came back, and I was like, no,
- 7:13Speaker 1: I did bubbleskirts when I was sort of fourteen, fifteen
- 7:16Speaker 1: sixt and it's over right. So the fashion I have
- 7:18Speaker 1: now until I die is the stuff that I wore
- 7:21Speaker 1: when I was in my forties, and it is skinny
- 7:23Speaker 1: leg jeans. It is stuff that looks neat, and it's
- 7:26Speaker 1: at short socks.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I agree with you that you can't go back with
- 7:30Speaker 2: yourself because the danger is you go, oh, hang on,
- 7:32Speaker 2: I've still got something in the wardrobe, and you try
- 7:33Speaker 2: to repurpose that. But I will tell you the bubble
- 7:36Speaker 2: skirt has never been the short girl's friend, and I
- 7:38Speaker 2: still do not think it is the short girl's friend.
- 7:40Speaker 2: So that will be that, like the hot pants will
- 7:43Speaker 2: be something that the window open and closed without me
- 7:45Speaker 2: ever having got on that bus. No hot pants for you,
- 7:47Speaker 2: no hot pants for me than Kylie Minogue.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Should give it a go?
- 7:51Speaker 2: Should do? Shouldn't it?
- 7:52Speaker 3: And then we'll take photos and put it in. You
- 7:54Speaker 3: can make you to a super game next to me.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Your next ball, I guarantee you, Lewis will go nowhere.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Near imagine imagine that, Oh dear.
- 8:10Speaker 3: How good? Was the Grand Final? And Liz, I've got
- 8:12Speaker 3: to say Netball Australia did such a good job. It
- 8:16Speaker 3: was unreal from the lunch beforehand, which had how many people?
- 8:20Speaker 4: Seven hundred and fifty people? It looks nomination.
- 8:23Speaker 2: How many of those people did you get a photo with?
- 8:25Speaker 4: About seven hundred and forty two?
- 8:28Speaker 3: Oh what happened to the other ones?
- 8:30Speaker 4: Oh that was just the rest of the netballer strike.
- 8:32Speaker 5: They bore.
- 8:33Speaker 4: They've said enough of me lately, so they didn't need
- 8:34Speaker 4: a photo.
- 8:35Speaker 3: So question, is that a very difficult part for you then,
- 8:40Speaker 3: because you're obviously at a function like that trying to
- 8:43Speaker 3: do your job and your new.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Role get another six million bucks.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Yes, but you've got no time to talk to the
- 8:49Speaker 3: people with the funds because you're being pulled for photos
- 8:52Speaker 3: the whole time. Is that a bit tricky?
- 8:54Speaker 5: Oh?
- 8:54Speaker 4: Just look, it's a little bit tricky.
- 8:55Speaker 1: But the end of the day, people like people have
- 8:58Speaker 1: invested their hard earned cash into the lunch and I'm
- 9:00Speaker 1: happy to sort of meet people and have photos taken.
- 9:03Speaker 1: And I wanted everyone to come to this lunch and
- 9:06Speaker 1: walk away feeling they got value for money.
- 9:08Speaker 4: It was about four hundred and fifty bucks.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it is a fair bit of their hard earned cash,
- 9:12Speaker 2: isn't it?
- 9:13Speaker 4: And so yeah and so and and say it's pretty good.
- 9:17Speaker 4: You know you get that includes your ticket to the game.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, look, it's just a balancing act and
- 9:22Speaker 1: I'm sure I'll get better at it as we go along.
- 9:24Speaker 1: But it was it was such a good vibe at
- 9:26Speaker 1: the lunch. You know, Will McCloy, who you commentated with,
- 9:29Speaker 1: he hosted it, did a fantastic job.
- 9:31Speaker 4: We got the head coaches so smelling his head like,
- 9:35Speaker 4: it was such great And to hear that they have
- 9:37Speaker 4: a fun are they no? Because they get along really well? Right,
- 9:40Speaker 4: they were the sort of all I was just but.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Isn't that boring? Come on, guys, just let's see a
- 9:45Speaker 2: bit of a stare off, you know the boxes do
- 9:47Speaker 2: when they have the wayh in and they're right up
- 9:49Speaker 2: in one another's grill and they look like dickheads. But
- 9:51Speaker 2: you know, maybe network.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Could bring it, Yeah, it would have been funnier.
- 9:54Speaker 1: But still, like someone's really funny, like she's got a
- 9:58Speaker 1: dry sense of humor, and time is got a beautiful
- 10:00Speaker 1: sense of humor too. So they actually bounced off each
- 10:02Speaker 1: other really well. And then we've got some of the
- 10:04Speaker 1: Fox commentators in so be at Chatfield, Kira Trump and
- 10:10Speaker 1: Emily Beton.
- 10:10Speaker 4: So it was fantastic, right, So and then I just
- 10:13Speaker 4: got to have a chat at the end. So it
- 10:14Speaker 4: was a really it was just a really there was
- 10:16Speaker 4: a great vibe.
- 10:16Speaker 1: And then you go into the stadium and nine and
- 10:19Speaker 1: a half thousand screaming fans and you know, the Premier
- 10:24Speaker 1: of South Australia's there, and you know federal politicians, you know,
- 10:29Speaker 1: the chair of Sun Corpse there, so there's some really
- 10:31Speaker 1: high powered people there.
- 10:32Speaker 4: But then there's just so.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Many fans and it was a really joyful atmosphere and
- 10:36Speaker 1: I think that Paul is really unique in that way.
- 10:38Speaker 1: It's so joyful and everyone was so happy.
- 10:41Speaker 5: You know.
- 10:41Speaker 4: I met people who from Perth ha bought tickets and they.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Were a bit gutted that Fever weren't there, but they
- 10:46Speaker 1: were just there to have a good time, right, So it.
- 10:48Speaker 4: Was so much fun. I met some Swiss fans maybe
- 10:51Speaker 4: they'd be optimistic buying tickets early, but still like it
- 10:54Speaker 4: was great. It was so much fun. And you know,
- 10:58Speaker 4: I would say to everyone, you know, if you think
- 11:00Speaker 4: about going, whether in your team's going to been or not,
- 11:02Speaker 4: It's just a really fun weekend. And South Australia did
- 11:05Speaker 4: a great job.
- 11:06Speaker 3: You know.
- 11:06Speaker 1: You came into the airport and there was like all
- 11:10Speaker 1: these welcome to South Australia things with the netball and
- 11:13Speaker 1: you know South astraight home of the Super Netball Grand Final,
- 11:17Speaker 1: the best league in the world.
- 11:18Speaker 4: So it was just great. It was really well done.
- 11:20Speaker 1: You felt like the whole city of Adelaide got ready
- 11:23Speaker 1: to go fantastic.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Who actually went for a walk in the morning before
- 11:26Speaker 3: the game and ran into a guy who had come
- 11:28Speaker 3: from the UK. He was a netball dad and loved
- 11:32Speaker 3: the game, and I think since his daughter had stopped playing,
- 11:34Speaker 3: but he still was obsessed with it, he flew over.
- 11:37Speaker 3: He bought the package and he came all the way
- 11:40Speaker 3: because he said, I want to be there in the
- 11:41Speaker 3: flesh for the best netball competition in the world and
- 11:44Speaker 3: for the biggest game of the year.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Wow, hood goose bumps.
- 11:48Speaker 3: How good is that?
- 11:49Speaker 4: Goosebumps?
- 11:50Speaker 2: I think there's also a lot to be said for
- 11:52Speaker 2: watching a really good game that you're not invested in
- 11:54Speaker 2: either one true teams. I really just enjoyed watching it.
- 11:58Speaker 2: And when I went to the Fever Giants Game two. Yes,
- 12:00Speaker 2: I supported the Giants because it's like, well, they're the
- 12:02Speaker 2: underdogs and they're from my town. But it's like, I
- 12:06Speaker 2: just enjoyed watching the games of netball. And this is
- 12:09Speaker 2: obviously it's been a few weeks since I've been able
- 12:11Speaker 2: to see my team play, but it's there's something really
- 12:13Speaker 2: nice about just being able to go. I don't care
- 12:15Speaker 2: who wins. Look at that. That was amazing and not
- 12:18Speaker 2: feel any sort of sense of disappointment or you know,
- 12:22Speaker 2: or irritability about a call that you think should have
- 12:25Speaker 2: gone another way because you've got your massive bias goggles on.
- 12:29Speaker 3: We'll talk about the game a bit more, I'm sure
- 12:31Speaker 3: as well. But the other thing that I wanted to
- 12:32Speaker 3: congratulate Nipball Australia on was the halftime entertainers.
- 12:36Speaker 4: So good.
- 12:36Speaker 3: The Royal Family crew, I reckon. I've watched that four
- 12:39Speaker 3: times since I've got.
- 12:41Speaker 2: My family dance crew because the Royal Family would be
- 12:44Speaker 2: terrible dances.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I had never heard of them before, lots of people
- 12:49Speaker 1: had and I looked at when I saw it, I
- 12:51Speaker 1: was like, oh, what have we done?
- 12:54Speaker 4: And then I saw them on Saturday night went what
- 12:57Speaker 4: have we done? That was excellent?
- 12:58Speaker 3: Noman a phenomen I'm going to.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Say that you now seeing the inside of how it
- 13:04Speaker 4: all works. It is a really.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Small team at Netball Australia who put on this event,
- 13:08Speaker 1: and bloody hell they do a good job.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah, fantastic, well done guys.
- 13:12Speaker 3: I did try and bust out some of the dance
- 13:15Speaker 3: moves when we went out later we.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Did some pop and I think that that sort of
- 13:22Speaker 2: hip hop style is a great compliment to our sport too,
- 13:24Speaker 2: because it's about strength, it's not hyper sexualized or whatever.
- 13:28Speaker 2: My daughter is a hip hopper and I went along
- 13:29Speaker 2: to in as Stedford recently and she and I stayed
- 13:31Speaker 2: for a couple of hours afterwards watching the older age
- 13:34Speaker 2: groups because they're just so good and when you see
- 13:37Speaker 2: them doing those really strong, powerful moves, it's like this
- 13:39Speaker 2: is just great role modeling for girls. I love it.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Yeah, it was awesome, well done, well done round everybody
- 13:45Speaker 3: everyone involved.
- 13:46Speaker 2: So yes, there's a grand final to talk about. We've
- 13:48Speaker 2: also promised last week that we would that Catherine would
- 13:51Speaker 2: give us all a quick seminar on player transfers, which
- 13:53Speaker 2: we are entering into. Now we're in it, maybe we
- 13:56Speaker 2: should probably just get down and start talking about some netball.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Well, shall we start with the Grand Final? See it's hot,
- 14:05Speaker 3: that's a great.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Place to start. Last week, actually, I was thinking about
- 14:07Speaker 2: this and I'm wondering whether is the Grand Final the
- 14:11Speaker 2: new Year's eve of the netball year? So are we
- 14:14Speaker 2: now in a new year of super netball? We start
- 14:17Speaker 2: looking forward? We need to start making some new year's resolutions.
- 14:19Speaker 4: What's it?
- 14:20Speaker 2: What's your netball resolution going to be for the next.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Well, when I say go home after I go out
- 14:26Speaker 3: with the girls, go home, Yeah, don't be dragged to karaoke,
- 14:31Speaker 3: that's mine. So have some will power, Catherine for the
- 14:34Speaker 3: next after party after the ground.
- 14:36Speaker 2: So you're setting a fairly low benchmark for yourself. Honestly,
- 14:38Speaker 2: I think that's a pretty good view, Liz.
- 14:41Speaker 4: So I think, oh god, this is a question. With
- 14:44Speaker 4: that notice, Carolyne, it totally is.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I'll tell you what mine is because I
- 14:47Speaker 2: thought about this on the way in and my year's
- 14:49Speaker 2: resolution for the next Super Netball year is that I
- 14:53Speaker 2: will go and see more live games that my team
- 14:55Speaker 2: is not in. I've enjoyed it so much. I loved
- 14:59Speaker 2: going to see that Fever game in Western Australia. I
- 15:02Speaker 2: really want to go and see a game in Queensland
- 15:04Speaker 2: and Victoria next year because I just think it's super fun.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Welcome to my world. Come with me when I go
- 15:09Speaker 3: away for a work gig.
- 15:11Speaker 2: I'll go on and we'll go and make it think
- 15:13Speaker 2: and I'm really good at going home afterwards. We'll just
- 15:17Speaker 2: have a drink in the hotel.
- 15:18Speaker 3: I don't do that every week, it's only a Grand
- 15:20Speaker 3: Final weeks, but no, let's do that. That will, yeah,
- 15:23Speaker 3: make a weekend of it. Come to the game. I
- 15:25Speaker 3: know people, I can probably get your ticket.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Well.
- 15:29Speaker 2: My news resolution is already working out really well, so
- 15:31Speaker 2: much better than my actual news resolutions, which never go
- 15:34Speaker 2: beyond it.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Or was it this year?
- 15:35Speaker 2: Oh, I can't remember. It's probably swear less and that
- 15:37Speaker 2: that's a perennial one and it does not go particularly well.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Although I am no longer the person who swears the
- 15:43Speaker 2: most in my family, that is my sixteen year old
- 15:45Speaker 2: son now, who basically cannot say a sentence without dropping
- 15:50Speaker 2: some type of obscenity in it. It's like, this is ridiculous,
- 15:54Speaker 2: Like I'm your mother, Like you don't need to say
- 15:56Speaker 2: that to me. He's not swearing at me. It's just
- 15:58Speaker 2: that it's a descriptive.
- 16:00Speaker 3: It's like I kind of oh yeah, I swear words
- 16:01Speaker 3: are the best adjectives ever.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Anyways, you can come back to us on the New
- 16:04Speaker 2: Year's resolution if you would like to, because we need
- 16:06Speaker 2: to talk about the game on Saturday night.
- 16:08Speaker 4: This is true, but I'm thinking that maybe my news
- 16:10Speaker 4: resolution is to tag along with you two.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Yeah, now we're talking, you know, right though, you well
- 16:16Speaker 3: you have to now. And it's kind of a tax deduction, now, isn't.
- 16:19Speaker 4: It money first?
- 16:24Speaker 2: You have to deduct it from the income. All right,
- 16:27Speaker 2: So well, we had a win. It was a close win.
- 16:31Speaker 2: It was possibly what we expected.
- 16:34Speaker 3: I expected a closer game the first quarter, though. I
- 16:38Speaker 3: got very excited when the Vixens were actually up.
- 16:41Speaker 2: How good were they?
- 16:42Speaker 3: Yes, oh my god, so good? And the game plan
- 16:45Speaker 3: was mint but it was very taxing. So we spoke
- 16:48Speaker 3: about this because they kept it short and sharp and speedy.
- 16:51Speaker 3: But We're like, that is a very very hard game
- 16:54Speaker 3: to play for sixty minutes without losing some of that punch.
- 16:57Speaker 3: And I think you could see that towards the end.
- 17:00Speaker 3: But it was so good for such a long time,
- 17:02Speaker 3: and Kira Austin Oh.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Yeah, she was my MVP for the night for you know,
- 17:06Speaker 2: apparently that doesn't count who I think she'd be the
- 17:09Speaker 2: most valuable player, But anyway, I have a microphone now,
- 17:12Speaker 2: so I'm young to say. I thought she had an
- 17:13Speaker 2: absolute blinder. And again we've talked about this. It's a
- 17:17Speaker 2: shame that the MVP always has to come from the
- 17:19Speaker 2: winning team, because I just I thought she was sensational.
- 17:22Speaker 3: On that note, I think they got the MVP wrong,
- 17:24Speaker 3: even from the winning team. There's been a lot of
- 17:26Speaker 3: shut around that.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Well, I thought it was a really interesting call. Anyway,
- 17:31Speaker 2: I would possibly have given it to your mate.
- 17:33Speaker 3: One hundred percent would have gone to Georgia.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Well I know, but you have no filter on this stuff,
- 17:37Speaker 2: so I'm just saying someone else who has a little
- 17:40Speaker 2: bit more sanity would agree with you on that.
- 17:43Speaker 4: To be fair, Catherine would have made the decision and written,
- 17:45Speaker 4: Georgie howges down before the game started.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Let's put it on the trophy for next year.
- 17:50Speaker 3: There was somebody on Facebook, so at the start of
- 17:52Speaker 3: the game there was an interview with Georgie Horges Sue
- 17:54Speaker 3: Gordion did and somebody wrote on Facebook, why didn't you
- 17:57Speaker 3: get to do that, isn't it?
- 17:59Speaker 2: Obviously because of the restraining.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I know that, like you know, there's been a bit
- 18:08Speaker 1: of conjecture around who was the MVP or who should
- 18:10Speaker 1: have got it. But having said that, I was sorry
- 18:12Speaker 1: from Ramelda because you know, there was two players in
- 18:15Speaker 1: that Thunderbirds team who didn't get contracts with the teams
- 18:17Speaker 1: that they played with last year, Laura Sherian and Ramelda Aiken,
- 18:20Speaker 1: and they've come away with a Premiership trophy and both
- 18:23Speaker 1: of them are on court, Amelder for the whole game
- 18:26Speaker 1: and Laura for part of the game. So like, what
- 18:28Speaker 1: a redemption arc for them. And this is why we
- 18:30Speaker 1: love sport, isn't it? And it was just so lovely
- 18:33Speaker 1: to see them both.
- 18:34Speaker 4: And I actually was standing off court waiting to go
- 18:36Speaker 4: uncourt for the presentation and Ramelda's husband walked over to
- 18:39Speaker 4: her with their little girl and she.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Just burst into tears and I've actually never seen her
- 18:44Speaker 1: that emotional.
- 18:45Speaker 4: Oh, and she burst it and there was no cameras around.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I thought, this is so nice that it's not being
- 18:50Speaker 1: caught on camera, but I will talk about it later,
- 18:53Speaker 1: but it was just it was just a.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Beautiful moment and you could see what it meant to her,
- 18:57Speaker 4: So that was just lovely. But going back to the game,
- 19:00Speaker 4: I reckon the whole.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Vixen's game plan that, as you say, Catherine, it was
- 19:04Speaker 1: super taxing and you could see the whole thing was
- 19:07Speaker 1: to keep the ball out of the air and to
- 19:09Speaker 1: not not only high balls, but they very rarely went long.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I can only remember maybe three players where they went
- 19:15Speaker 1: long down the whole really long passes, and that's where
- 19:18Speaker 1: Shamira Sterling just lived red free in the heads of
- 19:22Speaker 1: the opposition. And she didn't really dominate in terms of
- 19:26Speaker 1: getting lots of intercepts and being everywhere on Saturday night,
- 19:29Speaker 1: but her impact was before the game because they had
- 19:33Speaker 1: to devise a game plan to keep her at a
- 19:35Speaker 1: game right. So and when I was watching that first quarter,
- 19:39Speaker 1: I was seeing to myself, God, this is really impressive,
- 19:41Speaker 1: but it's the telling Part's going to be the end
- 19:43Speaker 1: of the game. Into the Vixen's credit. They kept it
- 19:45Speaker 1: up all game. I thought kira Osa was outstanding. I
- 19:48Speaker 1: thought the work rate of Kate Maloney and sat Monday
- 19:51Speaker 1: was just unbelievable. So, you know, it was such a
- 19:55Speaker 1: well thought out game plan, which you would expect nothing
- 19:58Speaker 1: else from some mckinner's. But the flip side is that
- 20:02Speaker 1: I thought it was impressive coaching from Tanya Obs. We
- 20:05Speaker 1: were sitting right behind the Thunderbirds bench and at no
- 20:08Speaker 1: time in that first quarter did she look flustered, did
- 20:11Speaker 1: she look overwhelmed.
- 20:12Speaker 4: She just called a time out.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Super cool, super calm in the way she approached it.
- 20:18Speaker 1: So it was a masterclass of coaching from both ways.
- 20:21Speaker 1: You know, the Vixens had this specific particular game style
- 20:24Speaker 1: that they were playing, which was really predicated around keeping
- 20:27Speaker 1: the ball away from Shimira, and Shamira had to start
- 20:30Speaker 1: to take risks to get a out on the ball,
- 20:31Speaker 1: and you could see her starting to fly out for
- 20:33Speaker 1: passes that she wouldn't have otherwise gone out for because
- 20:36Speaker 1: she started to get frustrated.
- 20:37Speaker 4: And then the other end was.
- 20:39Speaker 1: You know, Tanya Obs a less experienced team even though
- 20:43Speaker 1: they won a Grand Final last year. I think they
- 20:45Speaker 1: only had about thirty nine Finals caps or something between them,
- 20:48Speaker 1: whereas Vixen's having the seventies.
- 20:50Speaker 4: So you know, her coaching role was just to stay
- 20:53Speaker 4: focused on our game plan. We don't need to change anything,
- 20:55Speaker 4: keep doing what you're doing.
- 20:56Speaker 1: So it was a fascinating battle of two coaches who
- 21:00Speaker 1: at the.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Top of the game made some really good changes as well,
- 21:03Speaker 3: Like Hannah Petty's barely played all year, but she came
- 21:06Speaker 3: on quite early too and then played the rest of
- 21:09Speaker 3: the game because she's just calm, like calm and brings
- 21:12Speaker 3: confidence to it. And you could see as soon as
- 21:14Speaker 3: she hit the court, everyone kind of went.
- 21:17Speaker 2: And that isn't that interesting?
- 21:18Speaker 5: That?
- 21:18Speaker 2: And she's a captain, isn't.
- 21:19Speaker 3: She She's a captain.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yeah, And she can captain effectively from the you know,
- 21:23Speaker 2: she doesn't need to be in the starting seven to
- 21:25Speaker 2: bring that calm to the to the side, and that
- 21:28Speaker 2: leadership unreal And.
- 21:31Speaker 4: I thought on that I also thought swinging Georgie Horges
- 21:34Speaker 4: in the goal attack was good.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Would George well, just in goalkeeper. Let's be honest, No,
- 21:38Speaker 3: you couldn't.
- 21:39Speaker 2: No, I think that's a terrible plan.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Georgia come and sit next to me on the bench.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Well, what a terrific game, and just you know what
- 21:52Speaker 2: an absolute fabulous thing for our game to it, for
- 21:55Speaker 2: the very last second of the season to have been
- 21:59Speaker 2: as exciting as it was. And of course, you know,
- 22:01Speaker 2: we're two weeks out from finals and we still had
- 22:03Speaker 2: six teams in contention. It's been amazing how.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Fast has it gone, though I can't believe it's.
- 22:08Speaker 2: I know what to do so much old sign Now
- 22:16Speaker 2: I do have to say, as I said, I wasn't
- 22:18Speaker 2: able to do the poll because I had to go dark.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Although since I went backstage at the Comedy Store, I
- 22:22Speaker 2: saw one of your mates from the Jungle there, Pete Hellier,
- 22:25Speaker 2: who was just off stage from doing his solo show,
- 22:27Speaker 2: and your other mate from Gladiators by Ryan was in
- 22:30Speaker 2: the audience, so it was like I might as well
- 22:32Speaker 2: be with Lizzellis honestly.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Two people who I just adore. That's so nice.
- 22:37Speaker 2: But I would like to thank Catherine Ready, one of
- 22:39Speaker 2: our fabulous dribblers, who took charge and ran the pole.
- 22:43Speaker 2: And so it was a beautifully worded question, and anyone
- 22:46Speaker 2: who ever wants to put up a change to the
- 22:49Speaker 2: constitution should ask Catherine, how do you word a question
- 22:52Speaker 2: simply that people understand it? It was who will win?
- 22:55Speaker 2: So yep, that's straight now. Interestingly, at ten twenty two
- 22:59Speaker 2: that evening she sent through and there were there were
- 23:02Speaker 2: votes for a whole range of different options. So the
- 23:05Speaker 2: umpires got one percent of the votes. The Swift's got
- 23:10Speaker 2: four percent of the votes, which I thought was interesting.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Thirteen percent of voters said well, I'm going to change
- 23:16Speaker 2: my vote later when I know more informations, which was great.
- 23:19Speaker 2: And then it was fairly even between the Thunderbirds and
- 23:22Speaker 2: the Vixens, but our dribblers thought the Vixens were going
- 23:25Speaker 2: to win forty three percent to thirty eight percent. So
- 23:28Speaker 2: so everyone who judges me for my tipping, you might
- 23:31Speaker 2: want to look at yourselves too, because yeah, it's easy
- 23:34Speaker 2: to be wrong. But anyway, thank you Catherine Ready for
- 23:36Speaker 2: stepping in, for showing leadership amongst the dribblers. Thanks to
- 23:39Speaker 2: everybody for getting involved. And we saw a lot of
- 23:41Speaker 2: people putting up photos of what are you doing tonight
- 23:43Speaker 2: for your grandfarmer obviously a lot of photos from people
- 23:45Speaker 2: who were there. And did you buy an ice cream
- 23:47Speaker 2: for a dribbler's daughter at the game?
- 23:49Speaker 4: Liz No, So yeah, no, world, No, I don't buy anything.
- 23:57Speaker 2: It's the birthday card.
- 23:58Speaker 4: So where I was sitting, there was some food and.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Stuff given to us, and I decided to have an
- 24:02Speaker 1: ice cream and I was holding it and one of
- 24:05Speaker 1: our dribblers brought up her daughter who was just so
- 24:08Speaker 1: cute and we had a photo and I said to her,
- 24:11Speaker 1: can I give your daughter an ice cream?
- 24:13Speaker 4: Because I thought, I don't want it to be weird,
- 24:15Speaker 4: like he's this weird old lady. It's a good parent.
- 24:17Speaker 4: And she said she said, yeah, yeah, absolutely, So I
- 24:20Speaker 4: just gave him my drumstick.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Oh you hadn't had a lick or anything yet.
- 24:24Speaker 4: No, I haven't taken the wrapping off.
- 24:25Speaker 1: And I just knew that I had a nice suit
- 24:27Speaker 1: on it, and really I ate a chocolate coated ice cream.
- 24:30Speaker 4: Part of it was going to end up all over me.
- 24:31Speaker 1: So there was a little bit of self preservation in
- 24:33Speaker 1: that because I knew I had to get up and
- 24:35Speaker 1: do the presentation.
- 24:36Speaker 4: But yeah, she was waiting. Cute. How can you not
- 24:38Speaker 4: give your ice cream to a cute kid?
- 24:39Speaker 2: Have you ever been to a gold class cinema and
- 24:41Speaker 2: ordered the food? You come out afterwards like you've been
- 24:43Speaker 2: rolling around in it.
- 24:44Speaker 4: It's just terrible.
- 24:45Speaker 2: You have no idea, what have you dropped this food everywhere?
- 24:48Speaker 3: You're lying down?
- 24:49Speaker 2: Never ever organized to go somewhere after a day in
- 24:51Speaker 2: gold class.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I'm not going to complay the zealous has
- 24:54Speaker 3: never given me an ice cream, but anyway, plenty of
- 24:56Speaker 3: red wine.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Well tar he bought all the comedians ice blocks. On
- 24:59Speaker 2: Saturday night, he had two shows and so he went
- 25:01Speaker 2: out and brought us all ice box. Why I asked
- 25:05Speaker 2: for paddle pop. So there were some people who were
- 25:07Speaker 2: having magnums and things.
- 25:08Speaker 3: What flavor chocolate?
- 25:10Speaker 2: What would you go?
- 25:11Speaker 3: Oh, rainbow?
- 25:12Speaker 2: Yeah, there were people having rainbow and oh no rainbow.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I called their adulthood into question. It's not a manhood thing.
- 25:17Speaker 2: It's just like, are you seriously caramel?
- 25:20Speaker 3: There's no caramel one or such.
- 25:22Speaker 2: They alleged that too.
- 25:24Speaker 4: So Rainbow's full of food glorery. Right, So you know
- 25:26Speaker 4: when your kids, when they're little, they have rainbow ice cream.
- 25:29Speaker 4: When it comes out at the other end, it's not.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Fantastic.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Like I was always like, no, no angry numbers for you.
- 25:37Speaker 1: You can't have rainbow, no doubt given up. Of course
- 25:39Speaker 1: they have whatever they like.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Yeah, my son like, honestly now will have because he
- 25:44Speaker 2: has some money at his disposal. It's like I'll ever
- 25:47Speaker 2: can a whipped cream and a red bull and go
- 25:48Speaker 2: that's a meal. It's like, no, it's not. And I've
- 25:50Speaker 2: spent sixteen years trying to force vegetables into this thing
- 25:54Speaker 2: and like feeling guilty every time there's a food additive
- 25:58Speaker 2: that has one of the numbers, and it's like, oh.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Man, speaking of cans, don't bring condensed milk near me.
- 26:04Speaker 3: I will smoke that bad boy in a second. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 26:09Speaker 1: There were times when Catherine was living with Matthew and
- 26:11Speaker 1: I and if she came home tired and emotional, I
- 26:14Speaker 1: would get up the next morning.
- 26:15Speaker 4: And I used to be.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Sponsored by nest Lay and I used to get these
- 26:21Speaker 1: the tubes. And one morning I woke up and there
- 26:24Speaker 1: were two tubes that had had the life sucked out
- 26:27Speaker 1: and it just left on the bench.
- 26:34Speaker 2: That is a cry for he.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Emotional night.
- 26:39Speaker 1: And do you when I was referring to ted and
- 26:42Speaker 1: emotional equals, but you know, when you just look at
- 26:46Speaker 1: filling of fish and condensed milk like I don't even
- 26:48Speaker 1: want to know what's showing on there, that's also something
- 26:51Speaker 1: that comes out wrong in the other.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Egs I did, like, do you order the fil of
- 26:55Speaker 2: a fish because you've somehow convinced yourself that's a slightly more.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Like I hate I hate fish fingers and stuff. But
- 27:01Speaker 3: I went through a phase where that was my go
- 27:03Speaker 3: to Now I'm back to the Junior Burger whatever it's called.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Friday lunch. We had our own Grand Final lunch and
- 27:09Speaker 2: we went down to Karangaroo and we were at a
- 27:10Speaker 2: seafood restaurant, which I bok because I thought you liked it.
- 27:12Speaker 2: In fact, we came up with the idea of this
- 27:13Speaker 2: podcast at a seafood restaurant, which you told me you
- 27:16Speaker 2: didn't really like seafood. So I'm learning and evolving. But
- 27:19Speaker 2: you ordered the pasta with the prom yeah, and that
- 27:23Speaker 2: was something that you too, used to order regularly before games.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Oh yes, yeah, Elizabeth did. Always didn't chili.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Prawn, chili, anything with chili, and if it was pro
- 27:33Speaker 1: like Prawn's, was a bonus. Like that's just stupid, that's
- 27:36Speaker 1: taking your life into your own hands ordering seafood before
- 27:38Speaker 1: a big match.
- 27:39Speaker 2: But you also used to say that you'd get really
- 27:41Speaker 2: bloated before.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Because your whole, your whole junior career, you come through
- 27:47Speaker 3: and it's like, kay, got a car bload, got a
- 27:49Speaker 3: car bload, and then we would have farts and like
- 27:52Speaker 3: tummy pains and because we just had this massive thing
- 27:55Speaker 3: of pasta, and then you're like, oh my god, there's
- 27:58Speaker 3: so much carb in other stuff like fruits and stuff.
- 28:01Speaker 3: We didn't really know about it. I don't think so, yeah,
- 28:04Speaker 3: I don't. I haven't had pasta for ages.
- 28:06Speaker 2: That's so good. It just made me laugh that you
- 28:08Speaker 2: two thought you were doing the right thing ordering these
- 28:10Speaker 2: prawn pastors, and it's like, oh, I can't move yea.
- 28:12Speaker 2: And those dresses are not particularly forgiven if you've got
- 28:15Speaker 2: some bloating, are they? But I remember turns black will
- 28:19Speaker 2: hide a multitude of sins, won't it.
- 28:21Speaker 3: I remember teammates after we've been out for a big
- 28:23Speaker 3: lunch before games that have had big feet of pasta
- 28:26Speaker 3: lying on the ground trying to you know, de gas,
- 28:31Speaker 3: trying to get into good positions.
- 28:34Speaker 1: When your kids are little and they have a tummy
- 28:36Speaker 1: pain because they can't fight, and you pick.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Up their knees and sort of roll around and squeeze,
- 28:41Speaker 4: that's what we should have picked them to one another.
- 28:43Speaker 2: What's your warm up for today?
- 28:44Speaker 3: Well? I do remember someone doing that specifically. That's funny,
- 28:50Speaker 3: all right.
- 28:50Speaker 2: So one of the things we promised last week, Kath
- 28:52Speaker 2: is that you would tell us all because we're now
- 28:54Speaker 2: obviously going into a really interesting period in the new
- 28:57Speaker 2: year of Super Netball. We are focused on next year.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Who who's going to be playing for?
- 29:01Speaker 4: Who?
- 29:01Speaker 2: Where? How does this happen?
- 29:03Speaker 3: So contracting period has started. It started on Monday, the
- 29:09Speaker 3: day after the Grand Final.
- 29:11Speaker 2: That's good, Mad Monday people make excellent decisions.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Well let's hope the coaches aren't on Mad Monday and
- 29:16Speaker 3: the administrators. But thank you also to Beck Baxter because
- 29:19Speaker 3: she went on our Facebook page and put up all
- 29:22Speaker 3: of the teams, yes, and the players that were still
- 29:24Speaker 3: under contract and who was off contract. So if you
- 29:27Speaker 3: want to see have a good look who's on and off,
- 29:29Speaker 3: go on to our Facebook page and do that.
- 29:31Speaker 2: And if you are not on our Facebook page, come
- 29:33Speaker 2: join us. We're three and a half thousand strong now
- 29:34Speaker 2: no Dribble podcast on Facebook. Come and join the conversation.
- 29:37Speaker 2: It's the nicest group of people you're ever going to meet.
- 29:41Speaker 2: But they do tell a nice out of us, which
- 29:42Speaker 2: I quite like they do. Yeah.
- 29:44Speaker 3: So yeah, so it started on Monday and it's only
- 29:47Speaker 3: really two and a half weeks. So teams, administrators, coaches, whatever,
- 29:51Speaker 3: I think would have already had a very good idea
- 29:54Speaker 3: about who they wanted to chase because there's not a
- 29:56Speaker 3: lot of time. So by the twenty third of August,
- 29:59Speaker 3: it's all done, and then from the twenty fifth of
- 30:01Speaker 3: August that's when you can open up to signing training partners.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Clubs have been able to sign their own team though,
- 30:09Speaker 3: so that's just players that aren't in your own team.
- 30:11Speaker 3: They have been able to sign their own team all season,
- 30:14Speaker 3: and they had up till just before the Grand Final
- 30:17Speaker 3: to make sure those players were resigned if that's what
- 30:19Speaker 3: they wanted to do. So yeah, it's a really really
- 30:22Speaker 3: quick turnaround. So within a few weeks we're going to
- 30:26Speaker 3: have a pretty good idea of who's where for next season.
- 30:28Speaker 2: How exciting. It's good to have stuff to talk about.
- 30:31Speaker 2: But can you I don't know whether you can speculate
- 30:33Speaker 2: on this or not. I was really interested in a
- 30:35Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago the Firebirds before they had announced
- 30:37Speaker 2: a new coach, saying that Danelle and Remy Carmo won't
- 30:43Speaker 2: be offered new contracts. So who's making those decisions if
- 30:46Speaker 2: you don't even have a coach on board?
- 30:49Speaker 3: And I think it was important for that announcement to
- 30:51Speaker 3: come early because it's certainly good for the players. Although yeah,
- 30:56Speaker 3: I mean they don't have they probably thought they were
- 30:58Speaker 3: going to be there, which is a bit of a
- 30:59Speaker 3: shock to the system, but at least there was enough
- 31:01Speaker 3: time for other clubs to know they're available for those
- 31:03Speaker 3: conversations to start before the signing period did so. Hopefully
- 31:07Speaker 3: now they're in some serious chats as of today as
- 31:10Speaker 3: to where they might be. But yeah, it's fascinating, isn't
- 31:12Speaker 3: it really interesting? But it's also interesting that they had
- 31:14Speaker 3: to announce that coach soon because if Queensland want to
- 31:17Speaker 3: recruit players, those players want to know who the coach
- 31:20Speaker 3: it is.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 31:21Speaker 1: It's also worthwhile pointing out that recruitment decisions are often
- 31:25Speaker 1: made by a department, like a netball department, which will
- 31:28Speaker 1: have a high performance manager and a few other.
- 31:30Speaker 4: Bits and pieces.
- 31:31Speaker 1: So sometimes that can happen whether there's a coach signed
- 31:34Speaker 1: or not, And you wonder if they've been in talks
- 31:36Speaker 1: with his coach in the background, and yeah.
- 31:41Speaker 4: I don't know, Like it is really interesting.
- 31:43Speaker 1: It would be really interesting to know how decisions are made.
- 31:46Speaker 1: But it's not just the coach who's selecting these teams.
- 31:49Speaker 1: It's usually a whole department that he's involved in the selection.
- 31:52Speaker 3: When Danelle ends up, I don't know.
- 31:59Speaker 4: We need to shit.
- 32:00Speaker 1: You know when we went to watch Firebirds. I went
- 32:02Speaker 1: to watch Firebirds play Fever this year and she just
- 32:06Speaker 1: took that game by the scruff of the neck. She
- 32:08Speaker 1: was phenomenal and she's such a show woman. You know,
- 32:10Speaker 1: she loves the crowd. The crowd loves her. I could
- 32:13Speaker 1: watch her play all day. She's amazing.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Well, for what it's worth, Briani, which I know is nothing,
- 32:19Speaker 2: this Swift's member would be happy to see her as
- 32:21Speaker 2: a shooter.
- 32:23Speaker 4: Yeah, that'll be interesting to see who they recruit.
- 32:26Speaker 1: And you know it has unique Plavi done enough to
- 32:29Speaker 1: be called up and given up like she's amazing too.
- 32:32Speaker 4: And there's not a lot of shooting spots around.
- 32:36Speaker 2: So one in each team and then there's a goal
- 32:40Speaker 2: attack in each team. If you need me to explain
- 32:42Speaker 2: any of this thing, and I'm happy.
- 32:43Speaker 3: To as in off contract, he's not.
- 32:51Speaker 4: A shooter off contracted every team. What a lot to
- 32:56Speaker 4: catch up to that. It's been a long weekend.
- 32:58Speaker 3: The other important thing to note is that they can
- 33:00Speaker 3: only offer contracts of one to two years max. Because
- 33:03Speaker 3: that's the end of the next of this broadcast deal.
- 33:05Speaker 3: At that point, the right.
- 33:09Speaker 2: On three year contracts, but that started more than a
- 33:11Speaker 2: year ago. Very good, thank you all right, So you
- 33:16Speaker 2: know this. We do this every week. It's one of
- 33:18Speaker 2: our very favorite things to do. It's where we ask
- 33:21Speaker 2: you to tell us about the people who are keeping
- 33:23Speaker 2: our game alive at the community level around the country.
- 33:26Speaker 2: We have had nominations from almost every state and territory
- 33:30Speaker 2: in Australia and almost and only the Act has been
- 33:35Speaker 2: lagging and lack us. Okay, do we have a nomination
- 33:40Speaker 2: from the Act?
- 33:43Speaker 3: We do?
- 33:43Speaker 2: We do? We have got a voice note. This ticks
- 33:48Speaker 2: so many boxes for us. There are so many gold
- 33:50Speaker 2: stars here. But Erin from the Act has sent us
- 33:54Speaker 2: a voice note and have a listen to this. And
- 33:56Speaker 2: this is why we love a voice note, because it's
- 33:58Speaker 2: so much more compelling when you, guys tell us rather
- 34:01Speaker 2: than us reading aloud what you've written. So let's hear
- 34:04Speaker 2: from Aaron.
- 34:05Speaker 5: Hi, guys, my name is Erin and I'd like to
- 34:08Speaker 5: nominate my mum, Lisa from the Act for being a
- 34:11Speaker 5: wind beneath our winger. Mum has been a netny mum
- 34:14Speaker 5: for the last twenty four years. She's supported my sister
- 34:17Speaker 5: and I in all our netball journeys from NetSec go
- 34:20Speaker 5: to NETTA to netball, including through the highs and lows
- 34:23Speaker 5: of several rep State League and state teams. When I
- 34:27Speaker 5: was ten years old, she was my coach for a season,
- 34:29Speaker 5: and she told me years later she hated the experience
- 34:31Speaker 5: and prayed every Thursday for rain so that she could
- 34:34Speaker 5: cancel training, but she did it so that the team
- 34:37Speaker 5: had a coach and so that I could play. Over
- 34:40Speaker 5: the years, she's also scored, been uniform and competition coordinator
- 34:44Speaker 5: for our schools and local club shout out to Arrowing
- 34:46Speaker 5: Netball Association, and a club committee member, as well as
- 34:50Speaker 5: being number one taxi driver, cheerer and Lolly's empower aid supplier.
- 34:55Speaker 5: Growing up, Mum intended all over our games to support us,
- 34:58Speaker 5: including those who were only up hurry, and continues to
- 35:01Speaker 5: do her best to show up to our games even
- 35:04Speaker 5: now in my thirties. She tries to come to my
- 35:06Speaker 5: social games, including the nine forty five PM one's when
- 35:10Speaker 5: she's able to. She even continued to come watch me
- 35:14Speaker 5: while she was undergoing breast cancer treatment a few years ago. Thankfully,
- 35:18Speaker 5: she's in remission now and has embraced the alice bands
- 35:21Speaker 5: and scrunches to manage her post chemo long locks. So
- 35:25Speaker 5: I just want to say, thanks, Mum. You are one
- 35:27Speaker 5: hundred and ten percent the wind beneath the wings of
- 35:30Speaker 5: my sister and I and we are so so grateful
- 35:33Speaker 5: for everything you've done and continue to do for us.
- 35:36Speaker 3: We love you so good?
- 35:38Speaker 2: How good was that?
- 35:39Speaker 3: So good? You know what the best thing about that was?
- 35:42Speaker 3: I may one stage in Harper's life get a thank
- 35:45Speaker 3: you for coaching her.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Team, and you'll get a scrunchy thank you. Eron and Lisa,
- 35:53Speaker 2: not only are you the wind beneath the wings of
- 35:55Speaker 2: your two daughters, but you are the wind beneath all
- 35:57Speaker 2: of our wings. And good to hear the shout out
- 35:59Speaker 2: for the air Away Netball Association too. We'd love to
- 36:01Speaker 2: know what netble associations you're from. So Lisa, there's a
- 36:04Speaker 2: scrunchy coming your way.
- 36:06Speaker 3: And a twenty five dollars printy wine about you. That
- 36:08Speaker 3: was smart keeping it in the fan. The fan they
- 36:11Speaker 3: can show thank you for our friends at Prince Ye.
- 36:15Speaker 3: I Reckon, that's all we've got time for today. I
- 36:17Speaker 3: want a dream team. Can we get a dream team
- 36:19Speaker 3: cranking on Facebook? Just in our off season? If you
- 36:22Speaker 3: suddenly came up with bazillion dollars. You had your own
- 36:25Speaker 3: team and would team. Yeah, I like.
- 36:28Speaker 4: That, So it has to be current players, yeah, oh
- 36:31Speaker 4: or whatever.
- 36:32Speaker 3: If you want to put me in a goal shooter,
- 36:33Speaker 3: you're an idiot to do it.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Well, Lisa's pulled on a bit. Maybe. Well, I got
- 36:42Speaker 2: to say, there's a certain under eleven's coach, you probably
- 36:45Speaker 2: deserves a call up to the coaching lineup of.
- 36:47Speaker 1: The Dream Team.
- 36:49Speaker 3: There you go, you can have that.
- 36:50Speaker 2: How much did you relate to what Aaron was saying
- 36:52Speaker 2: that Lisa would pray for rain for training sometimes because
- 36:56Speaker 2: we've had all the training and none of the games.
- 37:00Speaker 2: It's like, now we've had a game on the weekend,
- 37:01Speaker 2: It's like, oh, maybe it could rain tonight. I wouldn't
- 37:03Speaker 2: mind skipping a training too.
- 37:05Speaker 3: It's cold. Yeah. I woke up with a little in
- 37:07Speaker 3: my throat and I'm like, oh, am I sick enough
- 37:09Speaker 3: to call it off.
- 37:11Speaker 2: Wasn't that the greatest thing of COVID? Oh sorry, I
- 37:14Speaker 2: can't come. I've got a sore throat.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Let me tell you what the greatest thing about COVID was.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Harper was at that age where every park you went
- 37:20Speaker 3: past can we go to the park, cod I was like, no,
- 37:23Speaker 3: they're all everywhere, and I think I carried that on
- 37:27Speaker 3: after COVID for another couple of yees.
- 37:29Speaker 2: You know, the worst part of going to the park
- 37:32Speaker 2: is playing shop keeper ice It's oh and here's a
- 37:37Speaker 2: bit of chip bark that I'm paying for. My think
- 37:40Speaker 2: up another ice cream flavor moment, it's like, please shoot
- 37:43Speaker 2: me now.
- 37:46Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, you know, like they'd say, what can I
- 37:48Speaker 4: get you lady? Oh well, I'll have a chocolate milkshake. Sorry,
- 37:51Speaker 4: we don't have any milkshakes and I have a toast it. No,
- 37:55Speaker 4: I'm like, what's the shop is this? Stop issue?
- 37:58Speaker 2: Give me a damn Gin and tonic thing?
- 38:04Speaker 4: All right?
- 38:04Speaker 2: Well on that night, thanks very much for joining us.
- 38:06Speaker 2: It's been a wonderful week. It is a new superniple year,
- 38:09Speaker 2: Happy new Year all around. And what a wonderful New
- 38:12Speaker 2: Year's Eve we had on the weekend. My name's Carolyn Swindell.
- 38:15Speaker 3: I might go for a run to start my new year.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Oh my god, no that's not happening. I'm Katherine Cox.
- 38:19Speaker 1: And I'm Liz Ellis, and Katherine Cox could have run
- 38:22Speaker 1: out of sight on the dark knight.
- 38:23Speaker 3: You know, I actually had to run the other night,
- 38:25Speaker 3: because you know how, I do a runner when I'm done,
- 38:27Speaker 3: when I'm out. I legitimately ran down the street to
- 38:31Speaker 3: get away. I had to. Everyone was watching me and
- 38:35Speaker 3: they knew what I was up to. Anyway, You're inconspicuous recently.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Have a great week by Dribblers
