Transcript
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville jackwars fans welcome in to do all daily prisoner my gym jack dot com i'm Jordan lua thanks so much for being here monday august eighteen as you know we've been covering this trade between the jackwars in the saints but i wanted to go back to the game
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: because normally all of our content for a day or two after the game is about the game, not about a trade that's made between the two teams that we're playing.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: So right now we're taking a look at the Jaguar's defense against the Saints.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: Now, over analyzing preseason, schematics,
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: can be folly, but we're gonna do a little bit of looking at what Anthony Campanela was dialing up, how the players were executing, all that good stuff, because y'all are crazy Jaguar's fans, and that's what we're doing here.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: So really appreciate y'all be in here.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe, fire it up to get into this.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: Overall, shout out to Anthony Campanela who just did such a better job.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: in this game than he did in preseason week one in my opinion getting the guys ready for all the different scenarios you can face and his dial in some things up I mean he really did dial up some nice things against a rookie quarterback last week they were going against a veteran quarterback but uh... last week they were also going against backups defensively this week they were going up against starters granted and you've had a rookie quarterback back there Tyler shook but uh... and you know
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: The jury's still out, but I'm not, I'm not putting all my money on Tyler shook it in New Orleans, but they do have some talented players on that offense.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: Good job by the Jack Wars defense.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: The players that are like actually going to make the fifty-three thought Campany later did a really good job with it.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to dive into the first two drives because that's where the starters were really in heavily and then kind of offer some notes after that as well.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: So Devon Hamilton first play blew up.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: I run, you know, got easily into the backfield overpowered his man.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: and kind of threw off the tempo of the run, ate up a couple gaps.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Lacy got blown off the ball a little bit, but he recovered quickly, and then he and Trayvon were able to stuff the runner who got displaced by Devon Hamilton.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: So that was a really good run play.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: The first throw that Tyler shook had in the game got them a first down and it was just like a bang bang quick hitter against his own coverage.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: So there's really nothing negative to say about that.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that the spacing was solid.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that they were right where they needed to be.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: It was just like sometimes in his own coverage when you've got a quick hitting play like that, it's just gonna be a complete pass and you just live to find another down and that's okay.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: Because shortly after that, the Jaguars Stevens really just locked it down.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: Do we winger'd had a sack?
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars brought five.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't like a crazy blitz.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: They brought five guys.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: But the Saints protection rules just completely broke down.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: You had the tackle trying to take Josh Heinz Allen who was
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: heading inside, and then the guard had to try to backtrack behind the tackle to take Dewey, and it was just a mess, and Dewey easily got a sack.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: The protection rules for the Saints completely broke down.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that was, you know, Kudos to Campanile because when he's been dialing up, safety blitzes, they've been working a lot.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: Safety and nickel blitzes have been really effective for him, both in practice and in games.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: He saw that a couple times in this one.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: But overall, I think that the Saints could have done a much better job trying to handle that than they did.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think they might have some problems on the right side of their offensive line there.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: On the intentional grounding.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: The game up front was on the defensive right side again, so it was like right after that sack by Dewey, you had a game up front with Devon, excuse me, not Devon.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: Trayvon, Walker.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: He gets inside of his man, the right tackle and then he smashes the guard and then hits up field and smooth loops outside.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: They meet at the quarterback and obviously
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: Chuck just had to dirt it or take the sack.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: He probably should have taken the sack, but he dirted it and it ended up being a grounding.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: So that was a really nice, really nice execution.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: Love the way they handled that.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: Again, probably because of the same sprites side of the offensive line, it done a better job, potentially.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: But you forced a punt on that drive.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: You did a really good job overall for the Jaguar's defense.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: Again, you can only control what you can control and I thought they did a good job there.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: They were buttoned up.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: Second drive, you had Ventral Miller matched up with a Rashid Shaheed, that's bad news, you don't want to see that.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: But if you had given it as all, diving to try to get a pass break up, wasn't successful, but wasn't a big deal.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: It was a short completion anyways.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of the St.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: stuff was quick hitting.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: So that's something to keep in mind.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: You're not always going to get a ton of past-rush production against an offense that's trying to get the ball out quickly.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: But overall, the Jaguar's defense and a really good job against that offense, even though they were getting the ball out quickly, they weren't really matriculating the ball down the field as they say.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: I will say though, Josh Hines Allen was getting a lot of push in this one on the second drive.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: He was getting push on shook.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: on the ventral miller completion to, you know, where ventral miller was in coverage of shaheed.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's just another play you'll live with it.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a big deal at all.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: Short completion.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: You'll give them that.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: The next run play, Josh Hines Allen destroyed a block.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: Got to Kindrae miller, but Kindrae miller was a little slippery yesterday.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: Ventral was able to finish them off.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I will say that, even though ventral, or excuse me, Kindrae miller
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: was kind of breaking some tackles and he's very flexible, good contact balance, pretty explosive, nimble player.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: So he was breaking some tackles, making some forced missed tackles, but it didn't really matter much because they were flying to the ball.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: They were swarming to the football and that's what you want to see.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: So you miss some tackles.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you want to try to clean that up a little bit.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: Kendra Miller is talented in that regard, but it didn't matter because you were cleaning up.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: You were getting after it with flying to the football overall.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: On third down of the second drive, Tyler shook tried to fit it into a tight window down the field.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it gets like a really good quarterback in receiver, like Burro and Chase or something like that.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: That might have been a completion.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: But then again, if that was a better throne ball, it might have been a Jordan Lewis P.B.U.R.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: Interception as well.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan Lewis was in pretty good coverage there and you had Darnell Savage over the top, I believe it was.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: And then that forced a punt.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the Jaguar starting defense for you.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: They basically blanked the Saints starting offense.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Devin Lloyd, he stayed out there with the backups and played a lot of special teams.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: You can take that as you will.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: But you also saw Andrew Wingard and Darnell Savage out there with the backups a lot.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: So those three players on the second, third level of the defense
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's something to prove.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: Does the coaching staff just want to see more?
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: I really have no clue how safety's going to shake out, like with the back end of that roster.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: We're even the front end.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Eric Murray's a starter, but other than that, I don't know what you've got.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: In terms of truly projecting who's going to make the roster, who's not, I think, do we will definitely make the roster?
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: Is he going to really be the starter?
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: Still waiting on Caleb Branson to get back as well.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: They had a coverage bust on the play where Chad Mooma was in tight coverage of the tight end down the field.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: And you have the second level of the defense kind of racing back trying to cover ground.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: Mooma was in good position.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: Couldn't quite get his hand on the ball.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: He is running around there with a big old club on his hand.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: But that was just like good defense a little bit better off.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: And so overall, but Tyler shook.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: looked to the left side of the field against that cover three.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think Brasswell was at a position and there was a deep over that could have maybe gone for six.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely would have been a huge play.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: Either way, the Jack Wars did get beat on that play, but another one where it's like, had the coverage bust like really gotten exposed.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: You would have been a lot more worried about it.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think you still should be worried about it, but you'll take the result of what ended up happening, honestly.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: Chris O'Lave,
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: He made a Christian Brasswell look silly on one play.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: He made a don't try.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: Prince looks silly on another play.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: Had a play where his speed was way too much for Donald Savage.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: So, Chris O'Lawvig, giving you your back up to a hard time.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's not a big surprise overall.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: I thought, again, I mentioned Kendra Miller forced way too many missed tackles in that popped, kept popping up.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: But they were swarming to the ball, so again, it didn't matter as much.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: The cover one double A-gap blitz.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: That led to the Dewan smooth sack.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: Second straight week with a Dewan smooth sack.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: And that was just a thing of beauty on third down, forced upon.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's exactly what you want to be dialing up and executing on third down things like that.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: Ventrum Miller was getting pushed.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: Jack Kaiser was coming around looping.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: And so Tyler shook has nowhere to go, nowhere to step up, and smooths able to finish it off.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: Thought overall for the defense.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: It was coached well.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of guys played well.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: Couple guys who didn't play very well in my opinion were Christian Brasswell and Danico Slotter.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: They both struggled in coverage.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't necessarily like getting burnt.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: Consistently, like they were pretty close, but close doesn't count.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: When you're playing NFL defense, when you're trying to cover against NFL receivers, against NFL quarterbacks, it's not good enough.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: You got to be able to make plays on the ball.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: You got to be able to lock it down and I didn't think those guys were able to do that well enough.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: At linebacker, I thought ventral Miller and
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Branson Combs really popped.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: Combs is obviously a super long shot for their roster.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: Devin Lloyd made some good plays too.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: He popped, Kendra Miller's helmet off in the backfield.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: That was a nice run defense play.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: But Ventral was really playing with a lot of intensity.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: So as Branson Combs, I thought BJ Green played with a lot of intensity and was disruptive for the second straight week.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: So good to see him competing to try to make the back into the roster.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if there's a spot for him or not, but overall,
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's out there showing why the Jaguar has brought him as an undrafted for Aging.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: Excuse me.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: You gotta give that shout out to Kenny H. Lovely who hasn't been here very long, was signed due to injuries at the corner back position, jumps around at the end of the game, should've sealed the game for the Jaguar as basically.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: But the offense gave the ball back very quickly and then the Saints go down and score touchdown to Nico's slaughter, struggling and coverage, kind of getting beat all over the place.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's how it goes, and we've talked about what happened on offense, but we'll go back over the offense tomorrow morning as well.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: or at some point tomorrow.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars do have practice tomorrow, so we'll be out there.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_00]: But we will go over kind of like the offensive takeaways from from yesterday's game as well tomorrow.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: And again, just shout out to Anthony Campanile.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: I thought you did a much better job in this one.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: Getting his guys ready and being able to dial some good things up.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: And as far as, you know, adding, adding our guy,
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: Colin Saunders, excuse me.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that's a good addition, as I've said, you know, competition on the defensive front.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: I don't.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: If he's just supposed to be a guy that can stuff the run for you and eat up blocks, I really do think that that the Von Hamilton and
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: and Austin Johnson are doing a good job of doing that themselves.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be an interesting competition, certainly, in my opinion, on the back end, at defensive tackle, and maybe at the front end.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think both of on and Austin Johnson are doing a good job against the run.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: So that'll do it.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: Good defensive performance, couple
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: Duds on the back end guys that might not make the roster didn't have great games, but you'll take that in the preseason would have liked to have won it.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's more on the offense than the defense.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: I do.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: Again, really appreciate y'all be in here.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe y'all have a good one.
