- 0:27Speaker 3: Welcome to Meet Eater Radio Live. It's eleven am Mountain Time.
- 0:30Speaker 3: That's ten am for our friends in Forks, Washington on Thursday,
- 0:34Speaker 3: August seventh, and we're live for Meat Eater, HQ and Bozeman.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I'm your host, Spencer, joined today by cal And Randall.
- 0:41Speaker 3: On today's show, we'll interview Brian Jones from the South
- 0:44Speaker 3: Carolina Schriffers Association about seafood fraud. Then each of us
- 0:48Speaker 3: will review a piece of gear. After that, we've got
- 0:51Speaker 3: a hot tip off between Giannis Putellus and Rich Frowning,
- 0:54Speaker 3: followed by one minute fishing with Corey Caulkins, and finally
- 0:57Speaker 3: we'll lend the show with a game of fake news. First,
- 1:01Speaker 3: Calan Randall, I've got a surprise for you. It's sitting
- 1:04Speaker 3: right in front of you. That dessert is a five
- 1:09Speaker 3: berry cheesecake from berries that I foraged and grew on
- 1:13Speaker 3: my own at home, like five types of berries, types
- 1:17Speaker 3: of berries.
- 1:17Speaker 4: The size of the size of the vessel made me
- 1:20Speaker 4: think there might just be five berries.
- 1:21Speaker 3: No, no, there are five types. I'm gonna tell you
- 1:24Speaker 3: about it as you dig in I've been growing some
- 1:27Speaker 3: blackberries and some thornless heritage raspberries at home. This year
- 1:32Speaker 3: BlackBerry crop on one of my plants specifically has just
- 1:37Speaker 3: been a banner year. It is the alpha berry crop
- 1:40Speaker 3: in my yard, and that makes up most of what
- 1:43Speaker 3: you're eating there. But I also foraged some wild berries
- 1:46Speaker 3: on our public lands here in Montana. I've got some
- 1:49Speaker 3: red raspberries, some silver buffalo berries, and black currants just
- 1:55Speaker 3: picked yesterday morning.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Delicious curran.
- 2:00Speaker 5: H oh, yeah, I was gonna ask if Phil got one.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Yes, Bill has one. That's right, real good black currant.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Probably about fifty percent of that is the blackberries that
- 2:09Speaker 3: I grew, and then I'd say twenty percent is the
- 2:13Speaker 3: raspberries that I grew, and then the other thirty percent
- 2:15Speaker 3: are the the foraged raspberries, the buffalo berries, and the
- 2:19Speaker 3: black grants.
- 2:20Speaker 5: Now do you say currant because you're like an NBA
- 2:23Speaker 5: basketball dude? Wasn't that a ballplayer?
- 2:26Speaker 4: Durant?
- 2:26Speaker 3: Kevin Durant, How am I I'm current? Current? I'm just ignorant,
- 2:30Speaker 3: that's all.
- 2:32Speaker 1: You're ignorant as you read Spencer.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Yeah, why does it mean I read people.
- 2:40Speaker 4: That mispronounced words? Learned those words by reading them.
- 2:43Speaker 3: You know what. I like that excuse. I need that
- 2:45Speaker 3: excuse a lot because I have a lot of mispronouncifications.
- 2:49Speaker 3: It's that.
- 2:49Speaker 1: That's when my mom tells me I have a stutter
- 2:51Speaker 1: because my brain is just moving too fatast moving faster.
- 2:54Speaker 3: No, it's real, it's real, phil Am I in the
- 2:56Speaker 3: frame correctly.
- 2:57Speaker 4: I feel like I moved.
- 2:58Speaker 1: There's no right way randall. But you great as long
- 3:01Speaker 1: as you're not leaning out like like, that's the classic
- 3:03Speaker 1: Steve Oriannis.
- 3:04Speaker 4: That was a real That was a real treat. Spencer.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Cheesecake is my favorite dessert really, Okay?
- 3:09Speaker 3: Do you make it yourself?
- 3:11Speaker 4: No, but Sydney makes it for me usually for my birthday.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Wow. Okay, and then you get some some candles in
- 3:17Speaker 3: it too.
- 3:17Speaker 6: Mm hmm.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Yeah. Pumpkin cheesecakes I like. I like raspberry cheesecakes. I
- 3:22Speaker 4: like all kinds of cheesecakes. Okay.
- 3:25Speaker 3: So five berry cheesecake grown from bear Montana soil.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Okay, so this is real good?
- 3:33Speaker 3: Well, thank you, thank you very much. That that is
- 3:35Speaker 3: my surprise for you two boys today.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Any more of a crumble guy?
- 3:40Speaker 5: Oh yeah, give me a cobbler.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good berry dish.
- 3:46Speaker 3: All right, we're going to start the show today by
- 3:49Speaker 3: interviewing Brian Jones, the vice president of the South Carolina
- 3:53Speaker 3: Shrimpers Association. He's here to talk to us about a
- 3:57Speaker 3: lawsuit involving shrimp fraud. Brian, welcome to the show.
- 4:01Speaker 6: Hey, thank you, thank you for having me.
- 4:03Speaker 3: First thing, Brian, tell us about the multi million dollar
- 4:06Speaker 3: industry that is South Carolina shrimping.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:10Speaker 7: You know, you think about the low country in South
- 4:12Speaker 7: Carolina and one of the things that's iconic about, you know,
- 4:16Speaker 7: the marsh grasses and everything that is seeing the our
- 4:18Speaker 7: beautiful shrimp boats. So our shrimp fleet is comprised of
- 4:22Speaker 7: you know, a couple of hundred vessels. Uh, you know
- 4:25Speaker 7: they're they're you know, owned by individual family members. We're
- 4:29Speaker 7: all small business owners like myself and all the boats
- 4:31Speaker 7: I tie up with. But you know, we we love
- 4:34Speaker 7: what we do. We're outdoorsmen, we're sportsmen. When we're not shrimping,
- 4:37Speaker 7: we're out there fishing too. And and you know, one
- 4:41Speaker 7: of the things we love and we're passionate about is
- 4:43Speaker 7: bringing fresh seafood from charle to table, bringing it home
- 4:46Speaker 7: for for folks to enjoy here and you know, the
- 4:49Speaker 7: the our what we catch is iconic to our our
- 4:51Speaker 7: cuisine too. People travel all around the world to come
- 4:53Speaker 7: to Charleston and and other places within South Carolina like
- 4:57Speaker 7: Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach to enjoy our seafood.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Now, earlier this year, the Southern Shrimp Alliance commissioned genetic
- 5:04Speaker 3: testing on shrimp from Charleston restaurants that was advertised as
- 5:08Speaker 3: locally caught. What were the results of those tests.
- 5:12Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, that was one of those things that
- 5:14Speaker 7: you know, we kind of suspected and we knew it
- 5:17Speaker 7: was going on, but until recently, until the Southern Trump
- 5:19Speaker 7: Alliance hired this company, Seat Consulting to do the genetic testing,
- 5:23Speaker 7: you know, we weren't sure how pervasive it was. But
- 5:27Speaker 7: the results, you know, they tested forty four restaurants. Of
- 5:30Speaker 7: those forty four restaurants, four were determined to be serving
- 5:34Speaker 7: domestic wildcaught shrimp, whereas the other forty were not. You know,
- 5:39Speaker 7: and within our lawsuit, which we'll talk about, twenty five
- 5:42Speaker 7: of them were outright saying that they were local or
- 5:46Speaker 7: wild caught or misrepresenting it. And then that's why we
- 5:50Speaker 7: named those twenty five in our case that we brought.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Now, how did these tests come to be? Obviously people
- 5:55Speaker 3: were skeptical about locally caught shrimp. Was that suspicion coming
- 5:59Speaker 3: from the honest restaurants or the customers, or the fishermen
- 6:02Speaker 3: or who?
- 6:04Speaker 6: I think all of the above.
- 6:05Speaker 7: You know, we know, you know, based on the past
- 6:08Speaker 7: twenty years and where it's moved from having fleets of
- 6:11Speaker 7: you know, thousands of boats, you know, down to what
- 6:13Speaker 7: our fleet is now where you know, we used to
- 6:16Speaker 7: where the creek where we tie up, there'd be five
- 6:18Speaker 7: six boats tied up to each other up to the dock,
- 6:21Speaker 7: you know, and that's dwindled now to.
- 6:22Speaker 6: Two or three.
- 6:24Speaker 7: So we knew, you know, we weren't catching and selling
- 6:26Speaker 7: as much shrimp. And you know, when we were catching it,
- 6:29Speaker 7: we couldn't move it as quickly because you know, there
- 6:31Speaker 7: wasn't a demand for it. So where did that demand go?
- 6:34Speaker 7: And you know, there's more restaurants and there's more people
- 6:36Speaker 7: eating shrimp. It's the number one can send sea feet
- 6:39Speaker 7: protein in the world and crosses all genres and types
- 6:42Speaker 7: of food. If you think about anything except perhaps like
- 6:45Speaker 7: kosher meals, I think you think like European, Middle Eastern
- 6:49Speaker 7: Latin American American. We can sound like bubble gump here,
- 6:53Speaker 7: you know when we say like shrimp kebab, shrimp scamping
- 6:55Speaker 7: all that. But we knew that the demand you know,
- 6:58Speaker 7: still existed, but that we weren't selling as many, So
- 7:01Speaker 7: you know, I think there was that suspicion.
- 7:04Speaker 6: Then you know, there are restaurants themselves.
- 7:06Speaker 7: There's a lot of good restaurants out there that that
- 7:08Speaker 7: we sell to, and they're getting undercut by you know,
- 7:11Speaker 7: other restaurants potentially saying you know, competing for the same diners,
- 7:16Speaker 7: saying they're serving wildcatsure when in fact they weren't. So
- 7:19Speaker 7: you know, it was great that the science allowed this
- 7:21Speaker 7: to happen when they were able to do this rapid
- 7:23Speaker 7: DNA testing. Shout out to doctor Sing from Florida State,
- 7:28Speaker 7: that's my alma mater, you know, and their ability to
- 7:32Speaker 7: create that rapid test their Seed consultant. I think it
- 7:35Speaker 7: We kind of knew it always existed, but until recently,
- 7:37Speaker 7: there wasn't the ability to do that testing and find
- 7:39Speaker 7: that out. So, you know, Southern Trimp Alliance, you know,
- 7:43Speaker 7: did the testing or commissioned it. Seed did the consulting,
- 7:46Speaker 7: and then we're sitting back there thinking, hey, you know,
- 7:50Speaker 7: if this is going on, where where's the where's the accountability?
- 7:54Speaker 7: And that's you know, one of the reasons we brought
- 7:55Speaker 7: the lawsuit. You know, we're not afraid of fight. You
- 7:58Speaker 7: think about you know, Charleston and and our historic nature,
- 8:01Speaker 7: you know, between you know, fighting the British and the
- 8:04Speaker 7: you know, the Battle of Fort Moultrie to you know,
- 8:07Speaker 7: the Civil War. You know, we we we are you know,
- 8:10Speaker 7: it's with on our nature to you know, fight for
- 8:12Speaker 7: what's right, and you know, we we really wanted to
- 8:15Speaker 7: make sure that that you know, not only us as
- 8:19Speaker 7: shrimpers and the restaurants, but consumers too. And oftentimes you know,
- 8:22Speaker 7: they're paying a premium for you know, the what what
- 8:25Speaker 7: they believe they're getting is local, wildcought shrimp, when in fact,
- 8:28Speaker 7: they're getting something that's been frozen for potential years, that
- 8:31Speaker 7: came from halfway around the world. That they can get
- 8:33Speaker 7: wherever they came, wherever they're visiting us from, whether it
- 8:35Speaker 7: be Ohio, Montana, Colorado, whatever the case, and we want
- 8:40Speaker 7: to make sure they're getting you know, what we love
- 8:42Speaker 7: to do and what we'd love to bring home to consumers.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Yeah, the lawsuit, you mentioned was filed by your organization,
- 8:49Speaker 3: the South Carolina Shrimpers Association, on June thirteenth, and that
- 8:53Speaker 3: was against twenty five restaurants. What can you tell us
- 8:55Speaker 3: about that case.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Yeah, so it's a case. It's primarily about transparency and honesty.
- 9:03Speaker 7: You know, at the end of the day, we want
- 9:04Speaker 7: to ensure that that there's you know, motivation for folks
- 9:08Speaker 7: to do the right thing and for consumers to be
- 9:10Speaker 7: armed with the knowledge.
- 9:11Speaker 6: You know, we're telling people all the time, and I'm
- 9:14Speaker 6: sure we'll talk about it later.
- 9:15Speaker 7: Is you know, ask where your food's, where your shrimp
- 9:17Speaker 7: comes from, you know, ask, you know, make sure you
- 9:20Speaker 7: know if it's local, that you know it's local. But
- 9:22Speaker 7: how do you know if there's you know, not accountability
- 9:24Speaker 7: measures in place. So we want to make sure, like
- 9:27Speaker 7: this lawsuit is, what we're really asking for is for
- 9:30Speaker 7: a judge to say, follow the existing law.
- 9:32Speaker 6: If they're saying it's local, make sure it's local. If
- 9:35Speaker 6: it's you know, you're saving fresh local seafood.
- 9:37Speaker 7: You know, fresh local seafood isn't something that was grown
- 9:40Speaker 7: in Ecuador, India, Indonesia or Vietnam. And there's nothing wrong
- 9:44Speaker 7: with you know, if they want to say, and they
- 9:46Speaker 7: want to sell imported shrimp by all means, do it,
- 9:49Speaker 7: but don't stay. It's what we do, and what we're
- 9:51Speaker 7: doing is spending our blood, sweat and tears, you know,
- 9:53Speaker 7: to bring home.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Now, is there a chance that the restaurants themselves were
- 9:57Speaker 3: being duped by suppliers or do you think these places
- 10:00Speaker 3: knew that their shrimp were not locally sourced?
- 10:03Speaker 7: You know that that's a great question, Spencer. I would say,
- 10:06Speaker 7: is it possible yes, but probable no. And you know
- 10:09Speaker 7: it's very highly unlikely that you know, they were being
- 10:11Speaker 7: do by uh, you know, their their suppliers. And what
- 10:14Speaker 7: I mean by that is, you know where we bring
- 10:15Speaker 7: our shrimp right here. You know, it comes, it goes
- 10:18Speaker 7: onto ice on our boat. From the boat, it goes
- 10:21Speaker 7: into boxes and those boxes go right to the restaurant.
- 10:24Speaker 6: So you know, it's very.
- 10:26Speaker 7: Highly unlikely that they're being you know, you know they're
- 10:29Speaker 7: there's some sort of bait and switched by a.
- 10:32Speaker 6: Supplier.
- 10:33Speaker 7: And you know, when we speak with restaurants and they
- 10:35Speaker 7: tell us, you know, you can get it cheaper, or
- 10:38Speaker 7: you know it's already peeled into veined, or you know,
- 10:40Speaker 7: there's some other reason and like I said, that that's fine,
- 10:44Speaker 7: just don't say it's local. You know, I think the
- 10:48Speaker 7: majority of them, I would suspect, uh, you know, they
- 10:52Speaker 7: know what they're purchasing. It's just more about how they're
- 10:54Speaker 7: presenting it to the consumer and how that affects not
- 10:57Speaker 7: only us as shrimpers, but like I said, you know
- 11:00Speaker 7: the good, well intentioned restaurants that are doing the right thing,
- 11:04Speaker 7: at which there are a lot of and then also
- 11:07Speaker 7: you know, the consumers that believe they're paying for you know,
- 11:10Speaker 7: our shremp and our product.
- 11:12Speaker 3: And who's supposed to be regulating this? How did we
- 11:14Speaker 3: arrive at a place where ninety restaurants are lying about
- 11:18Speaker 3: the source of their shrimp?
- 11:20Speaker 6: Yeah, you know that.
- 11:21Speaker 7: That's one of the questions, and one of the big
- 11:23Speaker 7: motivating factors of this whole case is how do you
- 11:26Speaker 7: know we got to this point?
- 11:28Speaker 1: Now?
- 11:28Speaker 7: How do we move forward and get to the point
- 11:31Speaker 7: where you know, there's more truth, honesty and transparency.
- 11:34Speaker 6: And I'd say, you know.
- 11:34Speaker 7: From a regulation standpoint, there are laws in effect as
- 11:38Speaker 7: far as you know, if it's true or like truth
- 11:41Speaker 7: and advertising, and and you know, the Federal Trade Act,
- 11:46Speaker 7: by the the Federal Trade Commission. But I think more importantly,
- 11:52Speaker 7: you know, it's maybe an eye opening wake up call
- 11:55Speaker 7: where you know, a country of original labeling law or
- 11:57Speaker 7: putting something on a menu makes more sense. And why
- 12:00Speaker 7: I say that is you think about states like Louisiana
- 12:03Speaker 7: and recently in Mississippi and Texas where they've been acted
- 12:06Speaker 7: country of origin labeling laws.
- 12:07Speaker 6: So you know, just like you see where an oyster
- 12:10Speaker 6: comes from.
- 12:10Speaker 7: When you go to a seafeed restaurant, you know, and
- 12:12Speaker 7: it's something that that you know is exciting, or let's
- 12:16Speaker 7: say five guys. You know, you go to five guys
- 12:18Speaker 7: and you get, you know, your hamburger and your French fries,
- 12:20Speaker 7: and it tells you where the French fries came from.
- 12:22Speaker 7: You know, it's just as easy to do that with
- 12:25Speaker 7: a shrimp. I'm putting that on your menu saying, you
- 12:26Speaker 7: know what, this shrimp came from South Carolina, or this
- 12:29Speaker 7: shrimp you know was sourced and however they want to
- 12:32Speaker 7: market it, whether it's responsibly sourced or you know, farm
- 12:37Speaker 7: raised or harvested in you know, Vietnam or wherever, or
- 12:42Speaker 7: or just say it's foreign imported shrimp. You know, if
- 12:44Speaker 7: that's on the menu, then the consumer is able to decide, hey,
- 12:47Speaker 7: do I want to purchase this or do I want
- 12:50Speaker 7: to maybe you know, spend my money somewhere else. Now
- 12:53Speaker 7: I know I'm either supporting local or not. And I
- 12:55Speaker 7: think that that's a real value to the consumer, and
- 12:58Speaker 7: I think that that's probably a path forward as far
- 13:01Speaker 7: as addressing the proliferate or the sheer pervasiveness of the
- 13:07Speaker 7: statistic that you mentioned where you know, you said we
- 13:09Speaker 7: we got to.
- 13:10Speaker 6: Ninety one percent. That was ninety one percent of the
- 13:12Speaker 6: restaurants tested.
- 13:12Speaker 7: And I hate the sound redundant there, but you know,
- 13:14Speaker 7: we sell to a lot of other good, good restaurants too.
- 13:16Speaker 7: But yes, the Seed Consulting did say about ninety or
- 13:20Speaker 7: forty of the forty.
- 13:22Speaker 6: Four that were tested.
- 13:23Speaker 7: Now, the twenty five were the ones that we honed
- 13:26Speaker 7: in on because according to Seed, those are the ones
- 13:28Speaker 7: that were outright fraudulent and that that's why we brought
- 13:31Speaker 7: the case specifically against them.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Brian, is this just going to be the first shooter
- 13:35Speaker 3: to drop? Could we be hearing that other restaurants in
- 13:38Speaker 3: South Carolina are doing the same thing soon?
- 13:42Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, it's possible, and we hope that you
- 13:45Speaker 7: know that this case serves as sort of a clarion
- 13:48Speaker 7: call or like a a cautionary tale to those restaurants
- 13:54Speaker 7: that may be doing that maybe not doing the right thing.
- 13:56Speaker 7: And that's up to really you know, Seed Consulting in
- 13:59Speaker 7: the Southern TRIMP Alliance, who commissions it where they may
- 14:02Speaker 7: send it because they've done multiple tests.
- 14:04Speaker 6: Like I said, we were the eighth state to be tested.
- 14:08Speaker 7: Uh, but but they've also gone back and done testing
- 14:10Speaker 7: in you know, Louisiana, Texas.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Uh.
- 14:13Speaker 7: And you know, I think there's other large seafood consuming
- 14:16Speaker 7: markets in the state of South Carolina that that would
- 14:20Speaker 7: certainly you know, garner the attention of that sort of testing.
- 14:23Speaker 7: If you think about like how many people come to
- 14:26Speaker 7: you know, coastal regions like Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head,
- 14:28Speaker 7: Beeford in the Bluffin area, I think, you know, it's
- 14:32Speaker 7: certainly you know possible. You know, we want to make
- 14:35Speaker 7: sure that that you know, folks have the opportunity wanted
- 14:38Speaker 7: to know what they're getting into. You know, we, like
- 14:40Speaker 7: I said, you know, we we definitely support the good
- 14:43Speaker 7: restaurants in doing the right thing, and we encourage other restaurants,
- 14:45Speaker 7: you know, to see an opportunity to support you know,
- 14:48Speaker 7: our local industry and what consumers really want at the
- 14:50Speaker 7: end of the day.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Do you have any advice, Brian, for how we as
- 14:53Speaker 3: customers can prevent being duped when it comes to buying seafood.
- 14:58Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I.
- 14:59Speaker 7: Kind of alluded to that earlier, and it is one
- 15:01Speaker 7: of those things that we definitely encouraged to ask, you know,
- 15:05Speaker 7: before you order, you know, to ask, hey, you know,
- 15:08Speaker 7: where did this shrimp come from?
- 15:10Speaker 6: You know, so they can make choices so as a consumer, but.
- 15:13Speaker 7: I would also say that coupled with you know, some
- 15:16Speaker 7: sort of accountability measure like encouraging you know, lawmakers to say,
- 15:20Speaker 7: you know what, we want to make sure that we're
- 15:22Speaker 7: getting the fresh, healthy shrimp.
- 15:24Speaker 6: You know, it's important and an important distinction to make.
- 15:27Speaker 6: And it's not just.
- 15:28Speaker 7: About you know, the fact that we love the shrimp
- 15:30Speaker 7: here and it's great and it tastes wonderful and it's
- 15:32Speaker 7: superior in quality, but it's also you know, some folks
- 15:35Speaker 7: want to make that decision because when they think about
- 15:38Speaker 7: you know, imported shrimp versus domestic shrimp, there's a lot
- 15:41Speaker 7: of concerns about imported shrimp. You know, the lack of
- 15:45Speaker 7: testing when it comes into the United States about one
- 15:48Speaker 7: percent inspected. And then also the concerns around ecological concerns,
- 15:53Speaker 7: environmental concerns, and human labor issues. So I think, you know,
- 15:57Speaker 7: people aren't intentional and they do want to support, you know,
- 16:00Speaker 7: domestic seafood production, support families, these rural coastal communities. I
- 16:04Speaker 7: come from a town of six hundred, and I'd be
- 16:05Speaker 7: remiss if I didn't say, you know, each one of
- 16:07Speaker 7: them once, invite all you down here to enjoy some
- 16:10Speaker 7: of our Southern hospitality.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Last thing here, Brian. As you stated earlier, four of
- 16:15Speaker 3: the forty four restaurants were confirmed to be serving genuine
- 16:19Speaker 3: US wild caught shrimp. Can you give those four places
- 16:22Speaker 3: a well deserved shout out?
- 16:24Speaker 6: Absolutely? There's a Rappahannock Oyster Company in downtown Charleston. Really,
- 16:30Speaker 6: it's amazing, it's wonderful.
- 16:31Speaker 7: There's the Coustal Creek Craft House, which is up in
- 16:34Speaker 7: the North Charleston area. And then two they are a
- 16:37Speaker 7: little closer here is Acne Low Country Kitchen, which is
- 16:40Speaker 7: on the Isle of Palms, and then Grayson GrITT which
- 16:43Speaker 7: is a mount pleasant as well.
- 16:44Speaker 4: Well.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Good on those places for serving the shrimp that they
- 16:47Speaker 3: say that they're serving. Thanks for your time, Brian, We'll
- 16:51Speaker 3: be following this case closely.
- 16:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:54Speaker 7: Thanks, if you all want to, everyone go shrimp and
- 16:56Speaker 7: come on down that.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Thank you, Randall. You ate?
- 17:01Speaker 4: Yes?
- 17:01Speaker 3: What was the place?
- 17:03Speaker 4: Rappahannock oyster barber. Let me give me a review, sort
- 17:08Speaker 4: of a hazy memory, like many evenings out in What
- 17:13Speaker 4: age were you mid mid mid twenties. We were down
- 17:17Speaker 4: there maybe December ish, were going to Kiowa Island. I
- 17:21Speaker 4: had a night or two in Charleston before we went
- 17:24Speaker 4: out to Kiowa.
- 17:25Speaker 3: All the ingredients for a hazy memory.
- 17:27Speaker 4: Yes, indeed, if I remember, the drinks were strong and
- 17:30Speaker 4: flowing generously. We ate a lot of oysters, and that's
- 17:35Speaker 4: about it.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Did you order shrimp? I can't recall you say yes, yeah, yeah,
- 17:40Speaker 3: you ate it?
- 17:40Speaker 4: One of the and it was authentically South Carolinian one
- 17:44Speaker 4: of the four places.
- 17:46Speaker 2: I think.
- 17:46Speaker 5: Good takeaway for the audience, right is like illegal things
- 17:50Speaker 5: don't exist unless there's a market for them.
- 17:55Speaker 1: So yeah.
- 17:56Speaker 5: Part of how you can be weigh in on any
- 18:01Speaker 5: sort of seafood fraud or wildlife fraud crime is be
- 18:08Speaker 5: sure of what you're buying it's not that hard.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Yeah. I was just at the Fisherman's Daughter in Minnesota,
- 18:15Speaker 3: and I was eating walleye that were caught by a
- 18:17Speaker 3: boat out of that town. And if I were to
- 18:19Speaker 3: find out later that those just came from like some
- 18:22Speaker 3: waters in Canada, far far away, I'd have been very disappointed.
- 18:25Speaker 3: It'd have been a very different experience. Yeah, So I
- 18:28Speaker 3: think that that matters took.
- 18:29Speaker 4: Especially in a place in a place like Charleston, where
- 18:33Speaker 4: you expect that everything is coming right out of the water.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like their personality, that's part of it, all right.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Our next segment is gear Talk.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Let's talk about gear. Let's talk about boats and beaten
- 18:49Speaker 1: Let's talk about booths in.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Behind those cano patterns with yon.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Beans, Let's talk about let's talk about gear.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Let's talk a wonderful When I heard that, I told
- 19:01Speaker 3: Phil it sounded like he was singing in lowercase.
- 19:05Speaker 1: It's just perfect.
- 19:06Speaker 5: This is a great time to plug the upcoming Christmas album,
- 19:10Speaker 5: which is just a compilation of all of Phil's little
- 19:14Speaker 5: ditties and perfect stocking stuffer for those of you who
- 19:17Speaker 5: still going there.
- 19:19Speaker 1: The auction House of Oddities just like a mixtape on
- 19:21Speaker 1: an actual cassette. Yes, all the.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Drops and Phil rights on there himself and permanent marker
- 19:27Speaker 3: what each song is.
- 19:28Speaker 4: I actually have a Christmas album. When I was like
- 19:31Speaker 4: twenty two, I recorded a Christmas album, including some like
- 19:35Speaker 4: Holiday Greetings. They're like, hey guys, this is Randall. Okay,
- 19:39Speaker 4: And I burned it on like eight CDs and sent
- 19:41Speaker 4: them out to people.
- 19:42Speaker 3: And do you still own a copy?
- 19:43Speaker 4: No, I don't, you don't. I would pay so much
- 19:45Speaker 4: money for a copy. It was so good.
- 19:47Speaker 3: I knew what we were gonna do for our Christmas radio.
- 19:50Speaker 4: The last track was Silent Night in German knock well
- 19:56Speaker 4: good knock, hollish love one.
- 19:59Speaker 5: But here we are in August yep.
- 20:02Speaker 3: All right, each of us has a gear review for
- 20:05Speaker 3: you today, Randall, start us.
- 20:06Speaker 4: Off, all right, Well, got a couple items here that
- 20:11Speaker 4: i'll go together. See here, these are the Birchwood casey target.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Stands, good sound effects.
- 20:19Speaker 4: They are bulletproof, as you can plainly see they've been
- 20:22Speaker 4: struck once or twice. Then I've got a roll of
- 20:26Speaker 4: Scotch Blue Painters tape bullet resistant, Yeah, bullet resistance. And
- 20:32Speaker 4: then I have the this is the Gordon utility knife
- 20:35Speaker 4: from Harbor Freight. It's a nice price point. I believe
- 20:38Speaker 4: it comes in at five ninety nine.
- 20:40Speaker 3: You don't need to say that. If it's from Harbor Frey.
- 20:42Speaker 4: You can grab it. You can grab it right by
- 20:44Speaker 4: the register and you can get fifty blades for five
- 20:46Speaker 4: ninety nine as well. So I like this time of year.
- 20:50Speaker 4: I like to do a lot of shooting. Well, I
- 20:52Speaker 4: like to do a lot of shooting at any time
- 20:53Speaker 4: of year, but it's more important than ever as we
- 20:55Speaker 4: approach our fall hunting season. So with this little kit,
- 21:00Speaker 4: can take any scrap of remnant cardboard from my garage
- 21:03Speaker 4: or you know wherever I find it, and I can
- 21:06Speaker 4: set up a little range, build myself a nice little square.
- 21:09Speaker 4: You can see there. Oh man, you can't see the holes,
- 21:11Speaker 4: but that's some of my finest field shooting.
- 21:14Speaker 8: Uh.
- 21:15Speaker 4: There's two well, you can see the right one. You
- 21:17Speaker 4: can see eight hundred and sixty some yards. There's two
- 21:22Speaker 4: three shot groups that are about three to four inches
- 21:25Speaker 4: and one's in the box. Ones just to the right.
- 21:28Speaker 4: So just dialing in the wind there. Tell me about
- 21:30Speaker 4: the T shirt that is a baby orangutan. That's one
- 21:34Speaker 4: of two orangutan t shirts that I own. One is
- 21:36Speaker 4: an adult male. The other one is this baby. I
- 21:39Speaker 4: think I got the adult male T shirt first, but this.
- 21:42Speaker 3: One's just kind of a joke. The other ones, you're
- 21:44Speaker 3: nice orangutans.
- 21:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the one that I usually wear to the
- 21:47Speaker 4: zoo because I want to have the dominant presence when
- 21:50Speaker 4: I walk into the orangutans.
- 21:51Speaker 1: And you think the baby gives you the dominance.
- 21:53Speaker 4: No, no, that's why I wear the adult the baby.
- 21:56Speaker 4: The adults for shooting. Yeah, there aren't any orangutans anywhere
- 21:59Speaker 4: nearby yard work, but yeah, I just I think.
- 22:02Speaker 5: Do you tell people it's not an ape? It's a
- 22:05Speaker 5: great ape.
- 22:06Speaker 4: That's true, that's true. Yeah, I just I like to
- 22:10Speaker 4: shoot cardboard because you can see what your bullet's doing
- 22:14Speaker 4: a lot of people just like to shoot steel, and
- 22:16Speaker 4: if you hit the edge, it's good enough. But the
- 22:18Speaker 4: cardboard doesn't lie, and you can haul it way out there,
- 22:22Speaker 4: stick it well beyond your reasonable shooting range and just
- 22:25Speaker 4: see what your bullet's doing at distance. So yeah, it's economical.
- 22:30Speaker 4: This whole kit, I think i'd price somewhere under thirty dollars, okay,
- 22:35Speaker 4: And yeah, everybody's got cardboard lying around, and if you
- 22:38Speaker 4: don't find someone who does.
- 22:40Speaker 3: I bet you have extra because I imagine some trash blows
- 22:43Speaker 3: through your property.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Yes, lots of anything that's not wayed down blows into
- 22:48Speaker 4: our property.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Does it keep going or does it stay there?
- 22:51Speaker 4: No, there's a nice funnel. There's a terrain funnel and
- 22:54Speaker 4: then like a barbed wire fence at the bottom, so
- 22:58Speaker 4: it catches all kinds of tarps.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Speaking speaking of I put a tupperware full of Christmas
- 23:03Speaker 1: cookies on top of my car as I was leaving
- 23:04Speaker 1: your place one time. Did you did that ever turn up?
- 23:07Speaker 4: No? No, no, especially in December. In December, you're getting
- 23:13Speaker 4: some good win, that's right.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:14Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:14Speaker 4: We had a we had a kids swimming pool one
- 23:16Speaker 4: time that showed up and then we didn't do anything
- 23:19Speaker 4: with it, and a couple of months later I saw
- 23:21Speaker 4: it like a half mile away. So yeah. We we
- 23:24Speaker 4: collect all kinds of stuff that's good for shooting.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Locally sourced cards, a lot of cooler.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Lids, a lot of styrofoam, a couple politics signs. Oh okay,
- 23:33Speaker 4: so yeah.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Yep, yep, that's that's what I got.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Thirty bucks improve your shooting. Enter the field with great confidence.
- 23:41Speaker 3: This fall Okay, good takeaway. Good one cat. What are
- 23:44Speaker 3: you reviewing for us today?
- 23:46Speaker 5: We're talking about the first Light Forge waiters. I so
- 23:51Speaker 5: this is new to the market. We've been weak, right, yeah,
- 23:54Speaker 5: but we've been playing with these and improving these for
- 24:00Speaker 5: for three years. I think I've had five different pairs
- 24:05Speaker 5: of waiters and during this very intensive product development phase.
- 24:13Speaker 5: And ideally, this is a waiter that has come to
- 24:19Speaker 5: the market fully field tested and the consumer should have
- 24:28Speaker 5: complete faith in their purchase here. So this is a
- 24:32Speaker 5: this is a big purchase, but it is done in
- 24:36Speaker 5: such a way that you should have complete confidence in
- 24:38Speaker 5: this thing to take care of you very barely. It's
- 24:42Speaker 5: like a lifetime pair of waiters out there.
- 24:45Speaker 3: So First Light literally spent years perfecting years yep. And
- 24:51Speaker 3: that also caused a lot of questions to be asked
- 24:53Speaker 3: when the folks would see it in Instagram content or
- 24:56Speaker 3: YouTube video and be like, what when are these waiters
- 24:58Speaker 3: showing up? Where your answer is no, out.
- 25:00Speaker 5: Yeah right now. And so I mean they are backed
- 25:04Speaker 5: by a great warranty as well, the boots and the
- 25:07Speaker 5: and the waiters and man, they're just yeah, they're burly.
- 25:13Speaker 5: So you got to ask yourself if you want six
- 25:17Speaker 5: pairs of the discount you know, general sporting goods store
- 25:26Speaker 5: waiters that you try to return throughout the course of
- 25:29Speaker 5: your season, or you invest in these babies and they're
- 25:36Speaker 5: going to take care of you for years as long
- 25:38Speaker 5: as you you know, don't let let them sit out
- 25:40Speaker 5: in the sun for half the year. You're going to
- 25:43Speaker 5: be rocking these for a long time. Knee pads.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Minimal seams that that I feel like was I've heard
- 25:50Speaker 3: is the big selling point, right that there's a seam
- 25:52Speaker 3: or just a couple of seams, very few seams.
- 25:55Speaker 5: Yeah, if you've ever you know, stuck anything underwater, it's
- 25:58Speaker 5: the seams that typically fail or like if you're staring
- 26:01Speaker 5: at your tent in a rainstorm, water's coming through the seams.
- 26:04Speaker 5: So this is a minimalist seam design, not quite seamless,
- 26:10Speaker 5: but there's basically one seam in the whole deal. So
- 26:15Speaker 5: the biggest takeaway is that we just tested the living
- 26:18Speaker 5: heck out of them in every condition imaginable, all across
- 26:22Speaker 5: the country and in one other country, thinking about oh
- 26:27Speaker 5: we call that country Canada.
- 26:29Speaker 4: Okay, we wore them up in Alaska bear hunting, and
- 26:33Speaker 4: there's a lot of crawling around on rocks and getting
- 26:37Speaker 4: in and out of boats and just doing all sorts
- 26:40Speaker 4: of things that you wouldn't want to do, especially with
- 26:43Speaker 4: water temps like that in a pair of waiters that
- 26:45Speaker 4: you didn't have confidence in. So that was years ago,
- 26:48Speaker 4: but they've only improved since.
- 26:50Speaker 3: YEP, available now on for slight dot com.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Yes, sir, all.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Right, I am reviewing in OURU foldable kayak folded up.
- 27:00Speaker 3: We've got pictures of this thing on the video if
- 27:02Speaker 3: you're watching on YouTube. It's the size of a large
- 27:04Speaker 3: suitcase and then set up, it's the size of a
- 27:06Speaker 3: normal kayak. You weigh seventeen pounds, has a weight limit
- 27:09Speaker 3: of two hundred and fifty pounds. That's just their base
- 27:12Speaker 3: model for contacts. My regular ten foot kayak has a
- 27:15Speaker 3: weight limit of two to seventy five, so it's not
- 27:17Speaker 3: that different. It's made of a thin corrugated plastic. It
- 27:21Speaker 3: feels and looks it's the best way and describe. It
- 27:23Speaker 3: feels and looks like heavy duty cardboard that's like waterproof.
- 27:27Speaker 4: You Sometimes it looks like I want to snap it
- 27:29Speaker 4: into my birch. Would casey target holders? Yes, like a
- 27:32Speaker 4: political and those are great targets.
- 27:34Speaker 3: I worked the produce section of Walmart in College, and
- 27:37Speaker 3: this is what our produce would come in. It's that
- 27:39Speaker 3: type of cardboard, and they were very desirable. Folks would
- 27:42Speaker 3: come in asking for that cardboard for free. Specifically, the
- 27:45Speaker 3: banana boxes were the most coveted.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Or when you get a mail hold in the post office,
- 27:50Speaker 4: the get that's a great box.
- 27:51Speaker 3: That's thesta the closest thing I can describe to what
- 27:56Speaker 3: that material is. The base model, it's it's five hundred dollars,
- 28:00Speaker 3: which is like within the price range of what you'd
- 28:02Speaker 3: expect to pay for a nine foot kayak. I bought
- 28:04Speaker 3: it on sale, and they have sales all the time
- 28:06Speaker 3: Father's Day, fourth of July, Memorial Day. If you are
- 28:09Speaker 3: interested in one, don't pay full price because it's going
- 28:12Speaker 3: to be on sale sometime soon. I bought it for
- 28:15Speaker 3: a road trip to northern Minnesota, and I told my
- 28:18Speaker 3: wife beforehand. I was like, I think we get home
- 28:21Speaker 3: and there's a fifty percent chance I'm putting this thing
- 28:23Speaker 3: on Facebook marketplace. I was just like, pretty pessimistic. We'd
- 28:27Speaker 3: go on the trip. I use it four different days,
- 28:29Speaker 3: including on Lake of the Woods. That's America's sixth biggest lake,
- 28:32Speaker 3: and Devil's Lake that's America's twenty second biggest, so some
- 28:36Speaker 3: big bodies of water. My takeaway after using it all
- 28:39Speaker 3: summer was I love it. I'm a really big fan
- 28:42Speaker 3: of this thing. I've got some pros and cons here
- 28:45Speaker 3: that I wrote out for you. The biggest pros the
- 28:47Speaker 3: whole reason that you'd buy a foldable kayak. It's compact,
- 28:50Speaker 3: it's really light, it doesn't take out much space in
- 28:52Speaker 3: your vehiclear garage. It's easy to travel with. It doesn't
- 28:55Speaker 3: take up room in your truck. Like I said, I
- 28:58Speaker 3: can securely lock it in if I pick up if
- 29:01Speaker 3: I'm traveling and sleep at a hotel in a sketchy
- 29:03Speaker 3: part of Spokane, and and I'm not worried that it's,
- 29:06Speaker 3: you know, gonna be gone. Yes, I've stayed in some
- 29:10Speaker 3: sketchy parts.
- 29:11Speaker 4: Yeah, they'll they'll choose through your truck bed there though.
- 29:16Speaker 4: I love you.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Yeah, they're gonna have to work for it if they
- 29:18Speaker 3: really want it. It's easy to carry it comes uh,
- 29:21Speaker 3: you know, they're they're it's easy to care if you're
- 29:24Speaker 3: trying to get some hard to access water, and they
- 29:26Speaker 3: make a backpack for it. It's kind of an awkward
- 29:28Speaker 3: seventeen pounds, but it's it's no problem. Maybe wouldn't go
- 29:33Speaker 3: up a mountain with it, but you could. You could
- 29:35Speaker 3: hike a quarter mile to some some other water access
- 29:38Speaker 3: you needed to get to. It's very open, so all
- 29:41Speaker 3: of your gear is visible and accessible when you're in it,
- 29:43Speaker 3: which is my preference when you're fishing if you're not
- 29:46Speaker 3: familiar with kayaks, so sit in and sit on, and
- 29:49Speaker 3: one of them the sit in has like a cockpit,
- 29:52Speaker 3: and the sit on it's just sort of an open
- 29:54Speaker 3: space for fishing. I'd prefer a sit on because everything
- 29:58Speaker 3: is is just very visible in you can reach anything
- 30:01Speaker 3: that you have with you in the boat. And so
- 30:04Speaker 3: far it seems quite durable, which is surprising because, like
- 30:06Speaker 3: I said, it's so similar to that heavy duty cardboard
- 30:09Speaker 3: we were talking about. They measured the life span of
- 30:12Speaker 3: their kayaks and folds and they say it's twenty thousand folds. Wow,
- 30:15Speaker 3: it can handle. So I did the math on that
- 30:17Speaker 3: you do two folds every time you use it. If
- 30:19Speaker 3: you use it twenty five times a year, that means
- 30:21Speaker 3: you have four hundred years worth of folds on this thing.
- 30:25Speaker 3: And genuinely it only takes a couple of minutes to
- 30:27Speaker 3: tear up and put back together, so their marketing on
- 30:31Speaker 3: that that it just takes a minute. It's legit. Now
- 30:34Speaker 3: here's some of the cons. It's not super comfortable. I
- 30:37Speaker 3: need to get out of the thing after like two
- 30:39Speaker 3: hours of being in it again. I just have the
- 30:41Speaker 3: base model. They do offer gel seats and other padding
- 30:44Speaker 3: you can buy. I haven't done that. I don't think
- 30:46Speaker 3: it's going to be an enormous game change and you're
- 30:49Speaker 3: not going to be like, damn, I could take a
- 30:50Speaker 3: nap in this thing, but I think it would probably
- 30:53Speaker 3: make it easier to be in. Because it's so light,
- 30:56Speaker 3: you really feel the wind. If you're used to a
- 30:58Speaker 3: regular kayak, you'll notice this right away. This one folds
- 31:02Speaker 3: up well, it folds up and it uh it can.
- 31:05Speaker 3: It takes on some wind. You notice it if you're
- 31:07Speaker 3: if you're casting at a log that your feet are
- 31:09Speaker 3: facing and a breeze picks up, it's going to be
- 31:12Speaker 3: at your shoulder pretty quick. It's easy for the wind
- 31:16Speaker 3: to really manipulate you. And this could be a pro
- 31:21Speaker 3: work on, but people are going to come up and
- 31:22Speaker 3: talk to you about it. I took this on a
- 31:24Speaker 3: lake in western Montana last week, and I had three
- 31:26Speaker 3: different folks while I was getting set up before I
- 31:28Speaker 3: got on the water. It came over like what is
- 31:30Speaker 3: this thing? What do you? What are you doing? And
- 31:31Speaker 3: my wife she was she was confused by it. She
- 31:34Speaker 3: was like, is this a fisherman? Always this chatty? The
- 31:38Speaker 3: answer is no. So maybe that's a pro oricon, depending
- 31:40Speaker 3: on how you feel about social interests.
- 31:42Speaker 5: Oh yeah, you approach a guy with the boat like that,
- 31:44Speaker 5: You're like, well, he's not going to catch anything. Yeah,
- 31:47Speaker 5: well he doesn't know what he's doing.
- 31:49Speaker 4: If he owns this, he wants to tell you sucker
- 31:51Speaker 4: for an Instagram ad.
- 31:53Speaker 3: That's right.
- 31:53Speaker 4: What's the what's the weight capacity on that bad boy?
- 31:56Speaker 3: Two hundred and fifty pounds? Like I said, my my
- 31:59Speaker 3: uh regular ten foot kayak is two seventy five.
- 32:02Speaker 4: I have to make sure I go pee before I
- 32:04Speaker 4: get on that thing.
- 32:05Speaker 5: Well, you know Randall's there's a big buffer.
- 32:09Speaker 1: We actually got a segment about that coming up soon.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Now. My big takeaway is I'm I'm always gonna hold
- 32:15Speaker 3: the foldable kayak. I'm sold. I I love this thing.
- 32:18Speaker 3: It genuinely gets me to fish more because it's so
- 32:21Speaker 3: easy to store, transport, and set up. It made the
- 32:24Speaker 3: barrier to entry of getting on a lake to go
- 32:26Speaker 3: fishing super low. And that's resulted in just more days
- 32:29Speaker 3: of me going out fishing. If I'm on the fence,
- 32:31Speaker 3: it's very easy to talk myself into being like, well,
- 32:34Speaker 3: I drive there, and I get out, and I'll be
- 32:36Speaker 3: on the water in three minutes and fishing. And that's
- 32:38Speaker 3: that's phenomenal. That that makes it worth it alone. And
- 32:41Speaker 3: I think back to college and how I would have
- 32:43Speaker 3: loved owning this thing and keeping it in my gmc jimmy,
- 32:47Speaker 3: Like I would have had a very different fishing experience
- 32:49Speaker 3: in college if this kayak exists.
- 32:51Speaker 4: So yeah, plus little duck hunting, that's right, I think, oh.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Yeah, fold that baby up.
- 32:59Speaker 3: You gotta make them count in the bottom of the line.
- 33:01Speaker 4: I mean, I do think the best gear is gear
- 33:03Speaker 4: that gets you out. This does it Like that lowers
- 33:06Speaker 4: the barrier to getting outside.
- 33:08Speaker 3: I think any outdoorsman would enjoy a foldable kayak, but
- 33:12Speaker 3: specifically if you like live in an apartment or a dorm,
- 33:15Speaker 3: or if you don't drive a vehicle, that makes it
- 33:18Speaker 3: easy to transport a traditional kayak or if you ride
- 33:20Speaker 3: the bus. If you ride the bus, if you struggle to.
- 33:23Speaker 5: Limited storage space at home, I mean, man.
- 33:26Speaker 3: If you struggle to lift fifty pounds, if you're just
- 33:29Speaker 3: like annoyed at the thought of moving a kayak in
- 33:31Speaker 3: and out of a pickup or on and off of
- 33:33Speaker 3: a vehicle, then like you are the person who would
- 33:36Speaker 3: benefit the most from having one of these. So I'm
- 33:40Speaker 3: very excited. It's best like outdoor purchase I've made in years.
- 33:44Speaker 4: I'm sold. I just need to see if they make
- 33:46Speaker 4: any adult sizes.
- 33:48Speaker 3: I'm using the base model, the entry level kayak. They
- 33:51Speaker 3: make bigger ones, so make a double. The weight range
- 33:53Speaker 3: goes up magnum. All right, we are halfway through the
- 33:59Speaker 3: show today. Let's say break for some listener feedback. Phil,
- 34:01Speaker 3: what's the chat?
- 34:02Speaker 1: Got uh? Yes? Rashad asks, has cal salvaged anything cool
- 34:07Speaker 1: from the dumpster lately?
- 34:09Speaker 5: Oh? Well, thank you for asking. I just had my
- 34:12Speaker 5: head in that dumpster yesterday.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Is that our dumpster or like a dumpster where you live?
- 34:15Speaker 5: No dumpster where I live. That people can't quite figure
- 34:18Speaker 5: out cardboard recycling. M And it costs us like two
- 34:23Speaker 5: hundred dollars because like, well, we send a whole another
- 34:27Speaker 5: garbage truck to go pick up the contaminated recycling. So
- 34:32Speaker 5: my my fun deal is jumping in the dumpster going
- 34:35Speaker 5: through people's trash until I find what you always find,
- 34:38Speaker 5: which is our shipping labels, and then I take a
- 34:42Speaker 5: picture of that and uh typically address them eyeball to
- 34:49Speaker 5: eyeball really yes, wow, yeah.
- 34:52Speaker 3: And you just like wait for that encounter to happen
- 34:54Speaker 3: naturally or like you'll go to their door.
- 34:56Speaker 5: No, I make it happen.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Wow.
- 34:58Speaker 4: Okay. Yeah. All it takes for evil to prevail is
- 35:01Speaker 4: for good guys to do nothing.
- 35:02Speaker 1: That's exactly right.
- 35:03Speaker 3: This is like the shrimp rod. Yeah, hold these people
- 35:05Speaker 3: account is.
- 35:06Speaker 5: And you know what the people always say. I just
- 35:09Speaker 5: didn't know to which point I'm like, Okay, well now
- 35:13Speaker 5: you do it. Thanks a bunch, have a great day.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Okay, thanks for shouting.
- 35:17Speaker 4: Good for you.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Connor says, I do a non resident waterfowl tag for
- 35:21Speaker 1: South Dakota. I'm looking to get a camper top for
- 35:23Speaker 1: my Tacoma hard top versus soft top. Cool cool cool.
- 35:30Speaker 5: No matter what direction you go, you're going to be
- 35:33Speaker 5: giving up something like it's just inevitable. Yeah, you know,
- 35:41Speaker 5: all the all the answers here, there's there's so many.
- 35:45Speaker 5: Like a soft top that you can like accordion back
- 35:48Speaker 5: throw you know your bike's over the tailgate and put
- 35:52Speaker 5: big stuff in there. People still call you to help
- 35:55Speaker 5: move and things like that. The hard top, you're gonna
- 35:59Speaker 5: be a little more restrictive because you can't take him
- 36:01Speaker 5: on and off. But nobody ever does uh more.
- 36:04Speaker 3: Never been interested enough in a camper sliding camper to
- 36:08Speaker 3: shop for one. Have you owned one?
- 36:10Speaker 5: I think he's just talking about a topper, like.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Just a top or cover, a camper top.
- 36:15Speaker 4: For mine, you had an inflatable topper I did.
- 36:18Speaker 5: Yeah, Yeah, the flated and that's a that's a cool product.
- 36:22Speaker 5: I would put that in the fifth wheel category. Like
- 36:27Speaker 5: if you're a fifth wheel person, but you don't want
- 36:32Speaker 5: like a bunch of snow and hay and crap piling
- 36:35Speaker 5: up in the back of your track during the off season,
- 36:38Speaker 5: get that flated topper and and you're gonna be set.
- 36:41Speaker 4: I was. I was shocked that I saw that more
- 36:43Speaker 4: than once. When I initially saw it on your pickup,
- 36:46Speaker 4: I didn't think it was long for the world, but
- 36:47Speaker 4: it was. Yeah, it was impressive.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I own a rooftop ten to Super Pacific. I
- 36:53Speaker 3: will review that on some future episode of radio where
- 36:56Speaker 3: we talk gear again. But I'm a huge fan of
- 36:59Speaker 3: that tent. I'd like having a rooftop tent again, as
- 37:02Speaker 3: long as my situation is like this where it's like
- 37:05Speaker 3: just me and my wife, we don't have a dog,
- 37:07Speaker 3: we don't have any kids. It's it's perfect for one.
- 37:10Speaker 5: Yeah, the I have a go fast camper, So that's
- 37:14Speaker 5: a you know, big investment, as is the one Spencer
- 37:18Speaker 5: just mentioned. And I got no windows in the whole thing, purely.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Because Spokane, Washington.
- 37:27Speaker 5: Yeah, the Spokane effect, Spokanist animation. I want security. I
- 37:34Speaker 5: don't I don't need people like I want more deterrent
- 37:39Speaker 5: than than last.
- 37:39Speaker 4: Hey, you don't want your truck looking like a storefront window.
- 37:42Speaker 3: Right, we thought of it like that? What else?
- 37:46Speaker 1: Not a question but a comment from Bill Randall. Thank
- 37:48Speaker 1: you for your help on getting the raffle items for
- 37:50Speaker 1: must The trivia and signed cookbooks had a very high
- 37:53Speaker 1: return on investment. I got some solons, Is that right, Randal?
- 37:56Speaker 4: I don't know, I've I was I've heard about this brand.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Sold hot dogs over the campfire in your honor that's
- 38:02Speaker 1: lovely of it. And then we also had someone asking
- 38:04Speaker 1: if he'd be coming to the Muster in New York
- 38:06Speaker 1: next year.
- 38:07Speaker 4: Oh, i'd like to.
- 38:08Speaker 3: I'd like to, and it will be there. He can't wait.
- 38:10Speaker 3: It's already on his calend. Yeah, when is it?
- 38:12Speaker 4: Randall, Well, it was the first week of August this year,
- 38:15Speaker 4: okay or no, no, I'm sorry that Yeah, maybe it was.
- 38:19Speaker 4: I don't know, somewhere in that neighborhood.
- 38:21Speaker 3: It's on his calendar though, but yeah, I'd love to
- 38:23Speaker 3: make it out. He circled it in red marker.
- 38:25Speaker 5: Yeah, important to know his back Huntry, Hunters and Anglers,
- 38:29Speaker 5: Big Eastern and one of the two big Eastern events
- 38:32Speaker 5: these days.
- 38:33Speaker 3: What's the other one?
- 38:34Speaker 5: It would be the Black Bear Bonanza in Arkansas. But
- 38:39Speaker 5: this is Muster in the mountains, so.
- 38:40Speaker 1: I stand forgiven. He says. The summer of twenty twenty
- 38:43Speaker 1: eight is the next time New York hostis, so you've
- 38:45Speaker 1: got some time to plan.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Yeah, he'll put that on his calendar.
- 38:49Speaker 4: Well, unfortunately, I do have a publishing calendar that goes
- 38:52Speaker 4: that far out, so we'll have to geez match that
- 38:54Speaker 4: up against our mediator American History.
- 38:57Speaker 1: On that note, Randall, you'd like to answer this question
- 39:01Speaker 1: from devn. Are the books like Mountain Men and Long
- 39:04Speaker 1: Hunters on the website hardcover copies or paperback editions?
- 39:07Speaker 4: They are all audio. There's no print version, correct.
- 39:13Speaker 3: So you get a bootleg copy on Amazon?
- 39:15Speaker 4: Yeah, there was a bootleg copy on Amazon.
- 39:19Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 39:19Speaker 4: I know there's a lot of folks out there that
- 39:21Speaker 4: would love to read it with your own eyeballs, but
- 39:23Speaker 4: those are audio originals and audio only by design.
- 39:30Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, you guys would be shocked at the
- 39:33Speaker 1: process of making those books. There's a lot of arguing,
- 39:37Speaker 1: a lot of arguing, a lot of a lot of
- 39:39Speaker 1: creative input from mini parties. Yeah, it's a cool it's
- 39:41Speaker 1: a cool thing watching random and.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Steve's very unique, very unique medium.
- 39:45Speaker 3: Yeah, let's see what more.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Phil Okay, Brandon says, I'm going offshore fishing in the
- 39:49Speaker 1: Gulf charter supply squid. But what other baits would y'all suggest?
- 39:56Speaker 5: Cal I, Yeah, live bullet like live bait is pretty
- 40:02Speaker 5: darn awesome, But if you're going on a charter, that's
- 40:06Speaker 5: gonna be pretty limited. I'd go ahead and just talk
- 40:09Speaker 5: to the captain and see what the options are. But
- 40:13Speaker 5: any anything that's still swimming that you can put a
- 40:17Speaker 5: hook into. Is makes for a good time.
- 40:20Speaker 3: All right, movie, you got anything to add Randall boat captain,
- 40:23Speaker 3: I would uh yeah, the other part of the continent, you.
- 40:26Speaker 4: Know, I'd listen to your captain. As a former captain,
- 40:29Speaker 4: I'd listen to your captain. Uh. It's you know, if
- 40:32Speaker 4: if you want to go above and beyond following their
- 40:34Speaker 4: advice and get something that's maybe not on the menu,
- 40:37Speaker 4: I'm sure they would appreciate the enthusiasm. If you show
- 40:40Speaker 4: up with something weird that they're not into, might be
- 40:44Speaker 4: a long day on the water. Especially if you're not
- 40:46Speaker 4: getting into them. There's gonna be some finger pointing.
- 40:48Speaker 5: So we caught some grouper in Florida on the on
- 40:53Speaker 5: the Gulf side with freezer burned elk meat one time.
- 40:58Speaker 5: So you know, think outside the box. Thanks in the
- 41:01Speaker 5: depths of the box.
- 41:04Speaker 3: Moving on, our next segment is Hot tip Off.
- 41:11Speaker 8: That's salty, that's salty, Phil Do you love her new
- 41:23Speaker 8: song Saskatchewan Spencer.
- 41:25Speaker 1: I haven't heard it. Oh, okay, I haven't heard it
- 41:27Speaker 1: since the I haven't listened to any new stuff since
- 41:29Speaker 1: the country Tinged one.
- 41:30Speaker 3: The Giver who is amazing chapel Rod all right. This
- 41:35Speaker 3: week's Hot tip Off is presented by Mountain Oops. Whether

- 41:59Speaker 3: phil Ynys Food jail is.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Hey, here's a hot tip for you for when you're
- 42:08Speaker 2: thinking about working out, about your fitness and getting ready
- 42:13Speaker 2: for this fall.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Whatever you do, and I hope.
- 42:16Speaker 2: You're doing something to get ready just because it's good
- 42:18Speaker 2: for you, but don't do it just one day and
- 42:20Speaker 2: then take a couple of days off. A lot of hunts,
- 42:23Speaker 2: especially Western hunts, where you're taking a week off to
- 42:26Speaker 2: go somewhere. If you're going out of state to hunt
- 42:28Speaker 2: white tail deer, are going to be a four or
- 42:30Speaker 2: five six days hunting in a row.
- 42:33Speaker 10: Okay, so train your body for that as well.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Okay, work out one day, run the next day, do
- 42:40Speaker 2: something else with your legs. Keep doing it day after
- 42:43Speaker 2: day so that your body is prepared for a four
- 42:45Speaker 2: or five day hunt. Okay, most of these hunts are
- 42:47Speaker 2: endurance events, not sprints, So make sure you're doing stuff
- 42:52Speaker 2: one day after another.
- 42:54Speaker 4: There you go.
- 42:54Speaker 2: There's no hotter tip than that right right there. Thanks
- 42:57Speaker 2: for being patient boys, answer.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Chick my meat eater.
- 43:08Speaker 11: Hot tip is the best program is the one you'll
- 43:11Speaker 11: stick to. There's a ton of methodologies out there. There's
- 43:14Speaker 11: a ton of different programs out there. There's people that
- 43:16Speaker 11: think you should go long and slow to be better.
- 43:18Speaker 11: There's people that think you need to be stronger. I
- 43:20Speaker 11: think it's somewhere in the middle. But do something, find
- 43:23Speaker 11: something that you enjoy. Continue to stack day's consistency is
- 43:27Speaker 11: the key.
- 43:28Speaker 3: Keep it up and get out there and do it
- 43:32Speaker 3: all right. Phil is going to create a poll for
- 43:35Speaker 3: the chat to vote on. We're going to give them
- 43:37Speaker 3: one minute.
- 43:38Speaker 5: Give about thirty seconds here to get their reason very
- 43:40Speaker 5: similar tips real.
- 43:42Speaker 3: And they didn't know what each other on each other
- 43:45Speaker 3: was doing. It's almost as though Yanni sent that to
- 43:47Speaker 3: his twenty minutes before the show today.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Crazy.
- 43:50Speaker 3: He's in Alaska and I think he's in Alaska right now.
- 43:53Speaker 4: Yeah. Interesting. Interesting.
- 43:56Speaker 3: So we've got Yanni's tip about training like you hunt
- 43:59Speaker 3: in Riches tip about building a routine cal you said
- 44:03Speaker 3: they're similar, but which one, which one do you like better?
- 44:06Speaker 3: We're gonna let the chat decide, but maybe you can
- 44:07Speaker 3: influence them.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Pull is live.
- 44:11Speaker 5: I mean, they're they're they're both very good. I like
- 44:16Speaker 5: the simplicity of Riches, which is like, just do something
- 44:20Speaker 5: at the end of the day, like all those somethings
- 44:23Speaker 5: at up. However, on Giannis's deal of like he didn't
- 44:29Speaker 5: say it this way, but it's like you need to
- 44:32Speaker 5: exercise while you're sore.
- 44:34Speaker 10: M hm.
- 44:35Speaker 5: That that is a real thing, Like you gotta keep
- 44:41Speaker 5: stacking those days up. So I like that one too.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Bill. We're gonna give the chat like twenty more seconds here.
- 44:49Speaker 3: If you're listening to this and you have a hot tip,
- 44:52Speaker 3: send that to radio at the meadeater dot com with
- 44:56Speaker 3: the subject line hot tip off and our friend Corey
- 44:59Speaker 3: and producer Jake you're going to review those. We'll have
- 45:02Speaker 3: more hot tips coming to you in future episodes. All right, Phil,
- 45:06Speaker 3: let's close the poll. Who is the winner between Yannis
- 45:09Speaker 3: and Rich.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Percent of the vote. The winner is jo tell Us.
- 45:16Speaker 3: Tell Us amazing, glad he got that Hot Tips.
- 45:21Speaker 4: I don't know I'd go with Rich on that one.
- 45:24Speaker 4: You know, sometimes you just grinding recording audio books. It's
- 45:28Speaker 4: tough to get get a good workout in every day.
- 45:30Speaker 4: But you know, do do what you do, do what
- 45:33Speaker 4: you can do, do what you will do. Johannest seems
- 45:37Speaker 4: like that's a program for man. It's got a lot
- 45:41Speaker 4: of a lot of workout time.
- 45:43Speaker 3: Well, fifty eight percent of the audience light Yanni's Hot Tip,
- 45:47Speaker 3: better and again Hot Tip. This Hot Tip off this
- 45:49Speaker 3: week was presented by Mountain Ops. All right, moving on,
- 45:56Speaker 3: Our next segment is one Minute Fishing.
- 46:00Speaker 2: I feel lucky, We'll do you punk, go ahead, make
- 46:06Speaker 2: my cast.
- 46:08Speaker 3: One Minute Fishing is brought to you by onex fish.
- 46:11Speaker 3: To find your new favorite place to fish, go to
- 46:13Speaker 3: onexmaps dot com slash fish. One Minute Fishing is where
- 46:17Speaker 3: we go live to someone who's fishing and they have
- 46:19Speaker 3: one minute to catch a fish and if they're successful,
- 46:21Speaker 3: we'll make a five hundred dollars donation to a conservation group.
- 46:24Speaker 3: This week, our angler is Corey Culkins. He's on a
- 46:27Speaker 3: river in Montana and fishing for a donation to the
- 46:30Speaker 3: Wild and Scenic Rivers Coalition. Corey, Welcome to the show.
- 46:36Speaker 10: Oh, what's up, guys?
- 46:37Speaker 3: What's up Corey? Now? Earlier this week, I believe it
- 46:40Speaker 3: was on Tuesday, Corey told me and Randall that he
- 46:43Speaker 3: had a fifty percent chance of being successful today. About
- 46:47Speaker 3: an hour ago, he upped it to ninety five percent chance.
- 46:50Speaker 3: Are you still feeling that confident?
- 46:54Speaker 10: Yeah, I might even bump it up to ninety six percent.
- 46:58Speaker 4: He also repositioned since since we last had him on
- 47:01Speaker 4: the screen here.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Uh huh? Now, now why this is true? Why so
- 47:04Speaker 3: confident this morning?
- 47:07Speaker 10: Well, I'm literally watching all these fish rise right here.
- 47:10Speaker 9: Plus I did dip my worm in the water for
- 47:14Speaker 9: a hot second and it didn't take long to catch
- 47:16Speaker 9: a fish, and I backed off because I didn't want.
- 47:18Speaker 3: To burn the hole.
- 47:20Speaker 9: Went downstream a little ways. First cast with a different fly,
- 47:23Speaker 9: and I got an eighteen.
- 47:24Speaker 10: Inch brown trout.
- 47:25Speaker 4: Oh ye, I'll see.
- 47:26Speaker 9: If I can get three casts in a row is
- 47:29Speaker 9: what I'm going for now.
- 47:30Speaker 5: My goodness, I saw the picture. I mean eighteen inches
- 47:33Speaker 5: for somebody.
- 47:36Speaker 3: Tell us about the fly you're going to use for
- 47:37Speaker 3: one minute fishing?
- 47:40Speaker 9: Oh, let's see, uh man, that last fish the seventeen
- 47:45Speaker 9: and a half inch fish, according to cow.
- 47:48Speaker 10: Ate, a big, chubby, big dry fly.
- 47:51Speaker 9: But if I only get a minute to fish, I'm
- 47:54Speaker 9: going to fish with a little stone fly nymph. This
- 47:57Speaker 9: is a tan turd, and I also I have a
- 48:00Speaker 9: little PMD nymph behind it.
- 48:02Speaker 5: So you're running three flies?
- 48:06Speaker 3: No, sir, just two, two under a bobber, two flies
- 48:09Speaker 3: in a strike indicator. All right, Corey, you're one minute.
- 48:11Speaker 9: I did just want to point out look at this
- 48:13Speaker 9: really cool heart rock I just found.
- 48:15Speaker 3: Oh beautiful, take that home, give it to your wife.
- 48:17Speaker 9: All right, I will Oh, I do have one note
- 48:22Speaker 9: and one request. Yes, I am self filming, so bear
- 48:25Speaker 9: with me here. I gotta flip the camera around here
- 48:27Speaker 9: in a second. Uh well, I don't know if I
- 48:31Speaker 9: can do that now. And also, last time I did this,
- 48:35Speaker 9: I believe the timers started when I walked away from
- 48:38Speaker 9: the camera. If I could get the timer to start
- 48:40Speaker 9: when I start my first cast.
- 48:42Speaker 1: No, I started it at the perfect time. Corey.
- 48:44Speaker 3: Okay, Corey, your yeah, I don't think you can rotate
- 48:48Speaker 3: your camera on when you're okay that We're gonna be
- 48:51Speaker 3: okay with that.
- 48:53Speaker 10: Oh, don't you.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Worry man Style?
- 48:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean if he casts out of the frame,
- 48:59Speaker 5: is a real move here, then we really have to.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Assume not the best picture, but somehow still better than
- 49:05Speaker 1: the pond on the other side of this wall.
- 49:08Speaker 3: All right, Corey, you're one minute of fishing starts when
- 49:11Speaker 3: you make your first cast.
- 49:13Speaker 4: Flop it in there, buddy.
- 49:14Speaker 3: We're watching. We'll make sure that Phil is diligently line
- 49:21Speaker 3: out and Phil, there we go, fly is in the water.
- 49:27Speaker 3: His one minute just started. We've never had a more
- 49:32Speaker 3: confident angler.
- 49:33Speaker 4: And is eight seconds in keep that line.
- 49:38Speaker 3: He's getting the net out.
- 49:41Speaker 4: Oh my goodness, very professional landing.
- 49:49Speaker 3: What do we got there, Corey, he's out of the frame.
- 49:55Speaker 10: Very healthy rainbow.
- 49:57Speaker 5: Wow, another eighteen incher.
- 50:01Speaker 10: Eighteen centimeters?
- 50:02Speaker 8: Cow?
- 50:02Speaker 3: What what did he? What did he he ate that?
- 50:06Speaker 3: PMD Okay, make another cast for us anyway, you got
- 50:09Speaker 3: another twenty seconds, Corey, he's going back for his.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Rod bus Randall do you want to do? You want
- 50:15Speaker 1: to do some epic like Hans Zimmer Style.
- 50:25Speaker 3: Just made his second cast. We'll see how hungry the
- 50:28Speaker 3: trout really are today, stripping line.
- 50:35Speaker 1: We're not playing prices right this week? So oh no,
- 50:37Speaker 1: I didn't want to do that.
- 50:38Speaker 4: One slick little network you know what?
- 50:41Speaker 3: That was such a fancyful professional landing he did. If
- 50:45Speaker 3: you're listening to this, it's worth going over to YouTube
- 50:47Speaker 3: right now just to see what it looks like when
- 50:50Speaker 3: a pro has a fly rod in their hands.
- 50:52Speaker 5: Yeah, barely fit in the nap.
- 50:54Speaker 3: That's not what it looks like when I'm out fly fishing.
- 50:57Speaker 3: All right, Corey, good thing, that first canoe, that's right,
- 51:02Speaker 3: well done, Corey. Three in a row, that's right. He uh.
- 51:06Speaker 3: He earned five hundred dollars today for my guild and
- 51:10Speaker 3: Scenic Rivers coalition. We were on a one minute fishing
- 51:14Speaker 3: success drought. So thank you Corey for ending that.
- 51:17Speaker 4: Nicely done, sir.
- 51:19Speaker 10: Hey, no problem, it was easy obviously.
- 51:22Speaker 4: You come in you coming into the office later, how
- 51:25Speaker 4: far away?
- 51:28Speaker 3: Don't tell you?
- 51:29Speaker 10: I got about four I got about four more miles.
- 51:32Speaker 3: Okay, don't tell my boss. All right, well done, Corey.
- 51:36Speaker 3: Thank you for joining us. Send us more pictures all right.
- 51:40Speaker 3: Last for today, we are playing fake news a tape
- 51:46Speaker 3: and ross shop. He talk tape balloon. Don't get to
- 51:50Speaker 3: about Steve. It's a better shot than done. This so's
- 51:53Speaker 3: episode weeks. You can love that.
- 51:59Speaker 5: Sign me up for the Christmas down load except amazing.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll set records at the action.
- 52:05Speaker 4: It sounds like, yeah, it's is that a shot at Yannis?
- 52:08Speaker 1: Now is a shot at Steve? Because I was I
- 52:09Speaker 1: was listing like fake news story, a fake news story
- 52:13Speaker 1: was Steve is a better shot than Yah?
- 52:15Speaker 4: Right, but it's but you're you're also doing an M
- 52:17Speaker 4: and M song with the Honest's new hair.
- 52:22Speaker 6: This song.
- 52:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't even think about that, all right.
- 52:26Speaker 3: Fake news is where I read a series of headlines
- 52:29Speaker 3: in which a real one is hiding among three impostors.
- 52:32Speaker 3: Cal and Randall's job is to figure out which one
- 52:35Speaker 3: is true. All right. Here is the first headline. Officers
- 52:40Speaker 3: use blank to remove snapping turtle from roadway? Is it
- 52:45Speaker 3: batchy ball, leaf blower, chopsticks or rc car. This is
- 52:54Speaker 3: a real headline earlier this summer. Officers use bochi ball
- 53:01Speaker 3: to remove snapping turtle from roadway. Officers use leaf blower
- 53:05Speaker 3: to remove snapping turtle from roadway, Officers use chopsticks to
- 53:10Speaker 3: remove snapping turtle from roadway. Or officers use our sea
- 53:14Speaker 3: car to remove snapping turtle from roadway. Bochi ball, leaf blower,
- 53:20Speaker 3: chopsticks or our sea car? M Cal and Randall, do
- 53:26Speaker 3: you have an answer?
- 53:27Speaker 5: I know that there is a headline out there Conservation
- 53:32Speaker 5: Worldwise that involves an OURC car. Okay, I just don't
- 53:37Speaker 5: know if this is it.
- 53:39Speaker 3: Are you boys ready?
- 53:39Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 53:40Speaker 3: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Cal saying
- 53:43Speaker 3: leaf blower and we have Randall saying leaf blower. Officers
- 53:47Speaker 3: use leaf blower to remove snapping turtle from roadway. You
- 53:52Speaker 3: both got it wrong. The correct answer is our sea car.
- 53:56Speaker 3: Cal knew it, but he didn't know it. That headline
- 54:00Speaker 3: was from Dakota News Now on July twenty fifth, twenty
- 54:03Speaker 3: twenty five. It comes from where I grew up. Hutchison County,
- 54:06Speaker 3: South Dakota. Officers said the snapper was causing a traffic jam.
- 54:10Speaker 3: Their sheriff's office posted the video on Facebook of a
- 54:13Speaker 3: tactical RC car harassing a snapping turtle as it crossed
- 54:17Speaker 3: the road. The RC car's real function is to play
- 54:20Speaker 3: spike strips during pursuits. The sheriff's office has since deleted
- 54:24Speaker 3: the post, with Facebook commenters flaming them for not finding
- 54:28Speaker 3: a more simple solution. Here is that video play the clip.
- 54:31Speaker 4: Phil, we didn't say it was a tactical RC car.
- 54:34Speaker 3: Well, the headline didn't say tactical RC car and that
- 54:38Speaker 3: is made to deploy spike strips, but instead it is
- 54:43Speaker 3: pushing on a snapper.
- 54:44Speaker 5: I'm just gonna guess there's just not a lot that
- 54:46Speaker 5: happens in this part of South Dakota.
- 54:49Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, this looks like just some juvenile delinquents. Uh, yes,
- 54:53Speaker 4: I feel like I saw this. They'd get in trouble.
- 54:56Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, it's it's I understand why it is deleted. Folks,
- 55:02Speaker 3: like you know, you can just pick those up. You
- 55:04Speaker 3: can just like let it be.
- 55:07Speaker 5: The snap and turtle like hunting community and appreciation community
- 55:13Speaker 5: is pretty strong, Like people love dealing with snappers.
- 55:16Speaker 3: Yes, almost all the snappers I've eaten came from a
- 55:20Speaker 3: roadway as I was just driving down the highway in
- 55:22Speaker 3: this summer, So that dude instead pushed it around with
- 55:26Speaker 3: his RC car. All right, here's the second headline. Cal
- 55:30Speaker 3: and Randall are zero for two.
- 55:32Speaker 5: We should say something about like doge for that.
- 55:36Speaker 3: Oh yeah, the news story about that RC car had
- 55:40Speaker 3: mentioned that they got the RC car in a grant.
- 55:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it's probably some security chases.
- 55:46Speaker 3: Art headline too. Blank found in gift wrapped box at
- 55:51Speaker 3: dash Point State Park? Is it human tow, Titanic artifacts,
- 55:57Speaker 3: Dwight Eisenhower's tax return or rare ferby dash Point State
- 56:05Speaker 3: Park is near Tacoma, Washington. Blank found in gift wrapped
- 56:11Speaker 3: box at dash Point State Park? Is it human tow,
- 56:15Speaker 3: Titanic artifacts, Dwight Eisenhower's tax return or rare ferby? Which
- 56:22Speaker 3: one of those is the real headline?
- 56:24Speaker 5: No clue on this one, but I know what I
- 56:26Speaker 5: wanted to be.
- 56:27Speaker 3: Okay, Randall, are you ready as well?
- 56:30Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 56:30Speaker 4: I'm just going with a real fun one.
- 56:32Speaker 3: Okay, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Cal
- 56:35Speaker 3: saying human tow founding gift wrapped box at Dashpoint State Park.
- 56:39Speaker 3: We have Randall saying, rare ferby founding gift wrapped box
- 56:44Speaker 3: at Dashpoint State Park. The correct answer is human tow.
- 56:48Speaker 3: A Cal got that one right. He wanted it to
- 56:52Speaker 3: be the human tow, and it was the human tow.
- 56:55Speaker 3: This headline was from Seattle CBS affiliate KIRO seven. New
- 57:00Speaker 3: was on July ninth, twenty twenty five. The box was
- 57:03Speaker 3: discovered on a Puget Sound beach over Father's Day weekend.
- 57:07Speaker 3: The man who found it said it was ramped in
- 57:09Speaker 3: green cloth and had a yellow bowt The toe was
- 57:11Speaker 3: turned over to the King County Medical Examiner's Office, who
- 57:15Speaker 3: tracked down its owner. They said the digit was medically
- 57:18Speaker 3: amputated and that the man who it belonged to wished
- 57:21Speaker 3: to remain anonymous, so case closed. Phil is now going
- 57:25Speaker 3: to show his photos of that toe. If you're watching,
- 57:28Speaker 3: this is your last chance to look away before you
- 57:30Speaker 3: see a very disgusting picture of a decapitated human toe.
- 57:34Speaker 4: Oh, removed humans. It's worse than I thought it would be.
- 57:37Speaker 3: Yeah, you're seeing there.
- 57:40Speaker 4: It looks like it looks like some sort of marine creature. Yes,
- 57:46Speaker 4: it looks like a desiccated it looks like an alien oyster.
- 57:50Speaker 3: It looks like a movie prop that you'd see and
- 57:52Speaker 3: you'd be like, well, that's not what removed human tow
- 57:55Speaker 3: looks like. It just looks ridiculous.
- 57:58Speaker 4: But there's colors that shouldn't be there.
- 58:00Speaker 1: It's some kind of like rock that i'd find it
- 58:01Speaker 1: a gift shop.
- 58:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 58:02Speaker 5: I think the color I'm assuming is the antiseptic MM
- 58:07Speaker 5: that liberally hosed around the digit before they cut that let's.
- 58:13Speaker 4: Cut back to the Yeah, there we go, There we go.
- 58:15Speaker 3: Human tow found in gift wrap box at Dashpoint State.
- 58:19Speaker 4: I just wanted to know how did you come up
- 58:23Speaker 4: with ferby?
- 58:25Speaker 3: Because I'm a child of the nineties, so you know
- 58:28Speaker 3: that like has.
- 58:33Speaker 5: In this particular instance though, like the person who found
- 58:36Speaker 5: it probably has legal claim if the owner of the
- 58:39Speaker 5: toe is like, I don't want anything to do with it,
- 58:41Speaker 5: right Uh.
- 58:42Speaker 3: That person I don't think wanted it. He reported it
- 58:44Speaker 3: right away, and he told the news that there was
- 58:46Speaker 3: a dead seagull nearby. So maybe the two are related.
- 58:49Speaker 6: Whoa.
- 58:50Speaker 4: It turns out there in Seattle were like the foot,
- 58:53Speaker 4: the foot and the shoe washed up on shure.
- 58:55Speaker 3: Mmmm it sounds right, I think so.
- 58:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 58:58Speaker 3: All right, our third in headline of the day, The
- 59:02Speaker 3: newest tool for Hazing wolves? Blank's voice? Is it? Scarlett Johansson,
- 59:09Speaker 3: Eric Cartman, Christopher Walkin or Missy Elliott cal and Randall
- 59:15Speaker 3: very quick to answer, Do you boys know this one?
- 59:17Speaker 1: Yeah? I do.
- 59:18Speaker 3: Okay, they've seen the real headline. We'll give folks listening
- 59:22Speaker 3: and watching right now, though, a chance to come up
- 59:24Speaker 3: with their answer. The newest tool for Hazing wolves Scarlett
- 59:28Speaker 3: Johansson's voice, the newest tool for hazing wolves. Eric Cartman's voice,
- 59:34Speaker 3: the newest tool for Hazing wolves. Christopher Walkin's voice, the
- 59:38Speaker 3: newest tool for hazing wolves. Missy Elliott's voice all right.
- 59:44Speaker 4: I would have gone with Missy Elliott's music that we
- 59:47Speaker 4: were an option, but.
- 59:48Speaker 3: Missy Elliott, all right, you boys ready to reveal the
- 59:54Speaker 3: correct answer? Yes, see him, both players saying Scarlett Johansson
- 59:59Speaker 3: and they, I got it. The correct answer is the
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: newest tool for hazing wolves. Scarlet Johansson's voice. That headline
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: was from Outdoor Life on August fourth, twenty twenty five,
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: just a few days ago. This is part of a
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: project by the Department of Agriculture that attempts to keep
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: wolves away from livestock. They're using a loud speaker that
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: broadcasts alarming sounds such as fireworks, gunshots, and people arguing.
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: Their audio of choice comes from the twenty nineteen film
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: Marriage Story starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson. In that
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: five minute scene, Driver and Johansson scream at each other
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: while on the brink of divorce. Here is one minute
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: of what those wolves are hearing.
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: A tough watch I can't believe.
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: I could know you forever, insane, bene witting, Are.
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: You kidding me?
- 1:00:53Speaker 8: I wanted to be married, I already lost.
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: You wouldn't love me as much as I loved you.
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: What does that have to do with la.
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: What?
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: You're so merged with your own selfishness you don't even
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: identify it and selfishness anymore?
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: Your sunch a dick.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: Every day I wake up and I hope you're dead.
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: Didn't like it.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: If I can guarantee Henry would be okay.
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: I hope you're gonna illness and they can hit by
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: a torn.
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: Done powerful stuff. Here's a spoiler there. They do get
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: divorced after that.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: I was hoping that seeing that clip would would stir
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: some memory of what that movie was about. But my
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: only the only thing I can recall is just them
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: screaming at each other.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: I didn't like that.
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: Tough watch to watch hard stuff.
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: Cal has pulled himself away from the table.
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: Cartman would have been good.
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: Eric Cartman would have been good. What would it sound like,
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: Phil if if any of those other folks were delivering
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: some audio to keep wolves away from live sock? Your
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: choices are Eric Cartman Christopher walking, Missy Elliott? Can you
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: get these wolves away from these cows? Very good? I
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: really love that. Do you have anymore?
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: No?
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: What are you doing by that fence?
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: You got it all wrong?
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: You don't want to be.
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: Well? No, he's not in the movie Anaconda?
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: Is he walking?
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: Know?
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: Isn't that Angelina's day?
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: Never mind?
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: Do you have a Christopher wagging for us? Randall?
- 1:02:31Speaker 8: No?
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: But I was trying to come up with a Missy
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: Elliott song, and the only one I can recall is
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: get your freak on. And I don't really know much
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: of it except for just the chorus, which repeats the
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: title of the song.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Musical masterpiece. All right, that's stop, don't go there, that's right?
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: What what are you doing?
- 1:02:52Speaker 10: The watch.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: Shoved it up his ass?
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: Those cows are not for wool?
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: You got it No, you got it all wrong. See,
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: you got my guy all wrong here.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: I don't think that would keep the wolves away from
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: the livestock. I'm intrigued because he's such a mysterious character.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: He chose Adam Driver and Scar Joe screaming edge. All right,
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: that's the edit today's show. Phil. Let's get some final feedback.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Oh, goodness. Okay, I still a bunch of a bunch
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: of questions from the first round. Will hit about some
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: local tips without spot burning. Will says he'll be flying
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: into Bozeman next Tuesday. Any tips for a first trip
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: to the area, looking to do some fishing in alpine
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: lights and streams within two to three hours of.
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: Both Now do this without spot burning?
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: Yeah, Well, the biggest tip, go carry on the Bozeman
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: airport is an absolute master right now?
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: I bet yeah, they're doing a bunch of baggage claim.
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: With all the guest ranch yellow Stones influx of tourism.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: It's brutal.
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: And if you feel like you're being followed by a
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: suspicious character and you need to get away, just put
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: on a cowboy hat.
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: You'll just blend in.
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: Put on a Feldt cowboy hat, brand new middle of
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: summer in Montana. It seems to be a real track.
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: In all seriousness, just get away from people.
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: Yeah, two to three hours. That can get you to
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: the other side of Yellowstone National Park. That can get
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: you to the other side of Missoula. There's a lot
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: of fishing between here and there. Go to on X,
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: turn on the layer that shows you like you're looking
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: at Google Maps, not the aerial, and you'll see all
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: these little bodies of water. They all have names. Go
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: type that into Google. The Montana FWP does a good
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: job of telling you what fish are in that lake
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: as well as what I really like, how much angling
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: pressure a body of water gets. From surveys, you'll see
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: some numbers that are only double digits, like ninety five
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: angler days. That would imply no one is fishing there.
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: Other lakes are gonna be in the thousands. So just
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: just pull up on X, find something looks nice, and
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: then see what they have to WP as saying.
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: He's your own adventure, and then you get the feeling
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: of hey, I did that.
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: It's great.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: There you go, Zach says, Speaking of gear, he sent
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: this in a while ago. Is there a new gear
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: item that you're bringing into the field this fall? M
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: a new piece of gear.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: I have an Illinois deer tag, and so for the
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: first time in my life, I will be hunting with
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: a straight.
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: Wall cartridge cool straight wall spencer.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: Decided to give that a shot. That will be a
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: new piece of gear for me.
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: Man I go, I gotta look up what the heck
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: it is. But I got a new razor the other
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: day and I'm super pumped on it. I'm not gonna
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: be bringing this into the field, but it's like a
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: one piece aluminum replaceable britt blade razor made here in Belgrade, Montana.
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: I'm looking it up right now.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: I'm pumped on it, Randall, great product.
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: You know, in preparation for today's segment, in case, in
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: case it wasn't.
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: Clear to all Proof Raser, Randall, It's called Proof Great Raser.
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: I don't have. I don't have any new gear at
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: the moment that I'm I'm real excited about. I spent
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: most of my money this most of my fun money
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: this year on a few ill advised fun gun projects
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: and a whole pile of suppressors.
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: So, uh, you.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: Should, if you have gear, you should send Randall your
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: free gear. And here's the best reason why. Someone sent
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: him some hot dogs and then he posted about those
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: hot dogs on Instagram and that video got how many views?
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: I think it's at like one point one or one
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: point two million something like that. Oh, I don't know,
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: there's one hundred thousand different.
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: That was just because some hot dogs showed up addressed
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: to random guy.
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: Guys sent me some hot dogs from Wimmors Meats. Shout
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: out Wimmors Meats. I believe in the Great state of
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: Nebraska or Kansas.
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: It was the best marketing he could have ever done.
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: Yeah, but they don't have an Instagram page, so I
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: was going to tag him in it. Well, but yeah,
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: case meets out there, got them, put them up on
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: the internet. People are hot dogs are having a moment
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: on the internet. So I don't know that it's core
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: to our audience, but it really made the rounds with
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: a very strange subset of people.
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: Bill what else you got?
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: There was a question for cal about what the best
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: route for backpacking through the frank Church wilder or is
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: it wildlife preserved? Yeah, wilderness area is if you have
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: any nips about where to start or where to.
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: There is a lot of water along pretty much every
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: access point into the frank Church so it's a big
- 1:07:41Speaker 5: wilderness area, but it's heavily accessible. There's a road that
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: kind of goes all the way through it, so you
- 1:07:49Speaker 5: have lots of options. It's a gorgeous spot.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Go for it. Yeah, No, there's no no wrong answer there,
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Zach says Phil. What's your Pokemon go friend? Code, Zach,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: I don't actually play a lot of Pokemon Go. The
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: only reason I have it on my phone is for
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: my kids. I played a lot in twenty sixteen when
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: it first launched. Who could forget it? Who could forget
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: when Hillary Clinton urged us all the Pokemon Go to
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: the polls? That worked out really well for her. That's
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: that's what it was at its most most relevant. But
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: there are a lot of people that still that still
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: play on.
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: The election that day when she said, now we need
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: you to Pokemon Go to the polls, yep, so he'll
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: still talking.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: Sorry, sorry to start with the heartbreak there.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: But Zach's question can get you to play Pokemon Go
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: a little more now that you have potential friends to make?
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: Maybe I don't even I mean, Zach, you tell me
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: what I can even do in Pokemon Go these days.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: I only know that all the stuff you could do
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: nine years ago.
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: So I read that as not Pokemon Go friend code.
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: I read that as Pokemon Go friend code. No, I
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: was wondering what a Go friend code was.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: I feel, let's do a few more.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: Okay, let's see get get in, get in some questions,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: because I think I think we're running out of ones
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: that I feel like reading, I saw.
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: One in there about the Little Miami River.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: Phil oh, Sure, yeah, talk about it, Randall.
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: We love the Little Miami River. It's the greatest, one
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: of the greatest rivers in our country.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: It's actually mentioned by Thomas Jefferson in his book notes
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: on the State of Virginia and he's describing all of
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: the rivers he's ever heard of, and he describes the
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: Little Miami as not affording much navigation. But southwestern Ohio,
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: just outside of Cincinnati, kind of tickles the tickles the
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: east side of the Cincinnati two seventy five Beltway. We
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: love it. We love it. Our Vice president was just
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: floating on that river for his birthday.
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: As a child. That was very confused by a few
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: names in the country, Miami, Ohio being one of them
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: because of their university, who's sometimes relevant in college football.
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: So no, that's Florida. And then also the Washington football
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: It was like, well, that's like the West Coast. It
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: didn't make sense to me. I see how they were
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: in the same division as the Eagles and the Cowboy.
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: Well, I don't know how Miami, Florida got.
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: Its name, but oh Ohio had it first.
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: Well, it's a it's people, it's an indigenous, it's an
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: indigenous nation. So the Great Miami River, Little Miami River,
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: Miami University. I don't know there Maybe there was diaspora.
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: I know, like a lot of those tribes in the
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: Ohio River Valley were pushed out and they created a
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: sort of diaspora across the country. So I don't know
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: if that's how Miami got its name, but I'd like
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: to claim it for Ohio to yours.
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: Fill what else you got.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: Christopher says, cow. What is your weapon of choice for
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: your big bear hunt?
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: Oh, I'm bringing my I'm bringing my recurve and a
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: three hundred wind mag So I have a big bear
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: hunt coming up. Brown bear fall, brown bear in Alaska,
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: out on the peninsula. And so it's an actual coastal
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: brown bear, which is like a just a spoiled kid
- 1:11:03Speaker 5: adventure that I never thought i'd do, but it's happening.
- 1:11:07Speaker 6: Uh.
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: So I'm gonna try to sneak up on some old,
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: stanky brown bear with my reek curve and and usher
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: him silently but effectively into a deep slumber with a
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: well placed Oh, five hundred and eighty grand arrow and
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: then I'm gonna have that three hundred wind bag for
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: ideally getting a couple of wolves because they're supposed to
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: be just a ton of wolves in this area.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: And then if all of this.
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: Goes to plan, my big thing that I want to
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: do is do like a Korean style barbecue on the
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: beach with brown bear and wolf.
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: Yeah, that'll be fun. Yep, they'll give us one more.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: Uh, you have a dough if you got me. This
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: is great content. And I had one ask. It was
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: one for me that I don't think is interesting. I'm
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: trying to find another one. But I'll just say, does
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: Phil cook what you do? Mean eater roast? The answer
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: is I cook a little bit, but I'm not confident
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: enough to be in front of a camera at cooking
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: a bunch of meat that I've never cooked before. I
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: was supposed to be a judge for one episode, but
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: I got bumped for Randy Newberg.
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: It was tough, plain because plainly, after watching my episode,
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: it's a prerequisite that one be confident in they're cooking
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: to compete in Meeta to roast, yes, of course.
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: All right, before we get out of here, Randall has
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: a plug for next week's episode, where we are doing
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: a movie club.
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: Oh, that's right, that's right. Next week we will be
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: talking about the nineteen ninety seven film Wild America one hour,
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: forty six minutes. It tells the story of the stove
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: for Brothers twenty nine percent on Rotten Tomatoes. You can
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: stream it on two B for free, and I think
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: the other streaming options out there require some sort of
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: nominal rental fee. But I don't know how many people
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: are actually watching these movies, so we decided that to
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: be was sufficient.
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: It's quite literally free if you have a smart TV
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: or any kind of ye streaming stick service.
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: Yep, it's free. But tune in. Jonathan Taylor Thomas h
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: You might know him as the voice of Young Simba.
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: He's the star. And then Scott Bearstow stars as Marty Stofer,
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: the famous filmmaker. You might know him from his work
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: opposite Kevin Costner in The Postman. All right, Scott Bearstow,
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: that is Marty Stofer.
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: Not I don't I think Phil is really going to
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: excel in this movie club.
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: Yeah, it's gonna be a good one. Tune in.
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: You could probably do The Postman too, I know The Postman,
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: water World, Oh.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: Gonna Costner's filmography.
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a rich, it's a rich. Oh all right, thanks.
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: For watching, thanks for listening. See you back here next week.
