- 0:00Speaker 1: Week Day's sweet A seven pm A flash drive with
- 0:04Speaker 1: Carl Westy on KFM ninety four point five.
- 0:08Speaker 2: It's a flash drive KFM ninety four point five. My
- 0:11Speaker 2: name is Carl Wastey and as you may know, there
- 0:14Speaker 2: is a huge, incredibly important cause in South Africa that
- 0:19Speaker 2: has happened, and it's happened with not a lot of
- 0:22Speaker 2: spotlight until a friend of mine walks in and makes
- 0:25Speaker 2: the biggest fuss possible about it, and then suddenly people
- 0:29Speaker 2: start lifting their heads. It's very sad that it took that,
- 0:32Speaker 2: but he's gone through every single stride to make it happen.
- 0:35Speaker 2: And period poverty in South Africa, it's ridiculous that that
- 0:39Speaker 2: has to be a thing that we had to live through,
- 0:41Speaker 2: that that we go to places where condoms are free,
- 0:44Speaker 2: and yet we go to a lady's bathroom and there's
- 0:47Speaker 2: nothing there that can actually have the same sort of connection.
- 0:51Speaker 2: And that is why I love the fact that this
- 0:53Speaker 2: Menstruation Foundation was co founded by a friend of mine
- 0:56Speaker 2: who's coming in with a new I'm going to call
- 0:58Speaker 2: it a tactic. I'm going to call it a marketing stunt,
- 1:02Speaker 2: call it, but I just think it's pure genius to
- 1:03Speaker 2: put a spotlight on this very very important cause.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Seven guessing brother man, how are you doing? Cole Waste.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I am so good and so proud of you for
- 1:11Speaker 2: what is one of the most innovative ways of bringing
- 1:14Speaker 2: attention to such an important topic.
- 1:16Speaker 3: You know you called me a friend earlier, which I
- 1:18Speaker 3: took a bit of offense because I'm your brother.
- 1:20Speaker 2: But it's your slide, yes, my brother, of course, that's right.
- 1:24Speaker 3: You know it's me. My name is a gassy and
- 1:26Speaker 3: I am a man. If you can not here and
- 1:28Speaker 3: a lot of people ask me why I am involved
- 1:30Speaker 3: in fighting period poverty, and I think period poverty isn't
- 1:33Speaker 3: a woman's issue. It's a humanity issue. Yes, and for
- 1:36Speaker 3: us a young women are missing four to five schools
- 1:39Speaker 3: days a month, times up by twelve, times up by five.
- 1:42Speaker 3: It's an injustice. Young ladies are missing so much time
- 1:46Speaker 3: from school. And for me, my mission is to end
- 1:48Speaker 3: period poverty. That will be my legacy. People see me
- 1:50Speaker 3: on television and I think for me, that's a side
- 1:53Speaker 3: thing and a side hustle. For me, I'll be known
- 1:55Speaker 3: as the man who helped end period poverty. Give me
- 1:58Speaker 3: the next five years max our end period poverty. So
- 2:00Speaker 3: we're downe with Joe Public, which is incredible. People Joe
- 2:03Speaker 3: Public well actually have on South Africa papers throughout the country.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Today we're having a huge blood stain on papers on
- 2:11Speaker 3: different pages throughout the country, which shows you many young
- 2:15Speaker 3: women are actually using paper as period products, which an
- 2:20Speaker 3: absolutely disgusting thing that has to happen. So grab the Star,
- 2:24Speaker 3: the August, all different papers and you can see a
- 2:26Speaker 3: blood stain in the middle of your paper.
- 2:29Speaker 2: When you came to this, Joe Public and you came
- 2:31Speaker 2: with this concept, I'm sure they pitched this to you
- 2:33Speaker 2: and they said, hey, we need to make sure that
- 2:35Speaker 2: period poverty makes headlines and not anything else. Was that
- 2:38Speaker 2: the concept that you wanted behind that.
- 2:40Speaker 3: The tagline is a newspaper can absorb the blood but
- 2:43Speaker 3: not the shame. We built a factory my business partner
- 2:46Speaker 3: Morris and I and we now actually I just came
- 2:48Speaker 3: from the factory. I wanted to cry. We are producing
- 2:51Speaker 3: sundry pads. We do between four fifty and six hundred
- 2:53Speaker 3: and fifty hundred pads per minute. Yeah, and we're producing
- 2:57Speaker 3: us about seven hundred and twelve thousand hundred pads twelve
- 3:00Speaker 3: hour shift.
- 3:01Speaker 2: It's incredible. I actually chatted to your partner about that
- 3:04Speaker 2: and as well as some of the stakeholders, and they
- 3:06Speaker 2: were telling me about how you also employing people to
- 3:09Speaker 2: do this, which is also valuable in South Africa, another
- 3:12Speaker 2: bit of you know, poverty to focus on. So there's
- 3:15Speaker 2: a couple of birds with one stone being knocked off
- 3:18Speaker 2: there and I think it's it's such a beautiful thing
- 3:20Speaker 2: and I hope that more people support you.
- 3:22Speaker 3: I get a lot of credit for the kind of
- 3:24Speaker 3: stuff that I do, but I literally am just a
- 3:27Speaker 3: drop in the ocean to the ladies. And the men
- 3:29Speaker 3: who are packing sentrypads right now work until four a m.
- 3:33Speaker 3: In the morning. You guys are absolutely amazing.
- 3:35Speaker 2: In this campaign. When we get this newspaper, what do
- 3:38Speaker 2: you want us to do to help along the cause.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I'm not asking you to buy sentrypads from my factory.
- 3:44Speaker 3: That's not what I'm asking for, yes, and I'm not
- 3:46Speaker 3: pushing pads onto women for me. If you want to
- 3:48Speaker 3: get involved as much as possible, go buy the paper
- 3:51Speaker 3: and the back page you'll see a QR code. If
- 3:53Speaker 3: you give me sixty rand a year car yes we
- 3:56Speaker 3: could Interpei poverty.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Pick up the newspaper more important, go to menstruation dot
- 3:59Speaker 2: found get some more information, help out where you can.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I believe that if you have excess, if you have
- 4:05Speaker 2: something that is a bit beyond what you need, it's
- 4:08Speaker 2: your responsibility to share.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Hellolajah man, this is.
- 4:11Speaker 2: So powerful and well done to you, your team, Joe Public,
- 4:14Speaker 2: and let's make sure that this message gets out there
- 4:16Speaker 2: and we end this together because you have all of
- 4:18Speaker 2: our hands holding yours to make sure that this happens. Furthermore,
- 4:22Speaker 2: this is a complete sidebar, but congratulations for your zuni
- 4:25Speaker 2: wag you. I'm sorry. I know you. I know you
- 4:28Speaker 2: didn't want this forum to be about that. But on
- 4:31Speaker 2: the side, just I think these blessings come into your
- 4:33Speaker 2: life because you are so generous with your platforms and
- 4:36Speaker 2: that's why things and accolades like that meet you there.
- 4:38Speaker 2: So I just want to say that.
