Transcript
- 0:02A listener production.
- 0:06We're gearing up for part two of Drivers Only.
- 0:08If you've come to the garage and hit the go button on this one and not heard part one post the Sydney Motorsport Park round, you're missing out.
- 0:16Jump back to the library for the good oil on the night round and some thoughts ahead of the next event in Tasmania.
- 0:21But right now, we want to dedicate some time to the sports loyal fans and listeners of the show.
- 0:27The mailbag has arrived.
- 0:29Here's James Courtney, Matt Payne and Anton Di Pasquale again.
- 0:38Have we got some questions in the bag?
- 0:40Yeah, I think we've got a bag.
- 0:41Anton, do you want to go for it?
- 0:42You want me to do the mailbag?
- 0:43Ask some questions, guys.
- 0:44I'm just checking.
- 0:46These are the questions from fans sent to us through supercars.
- 0:50I mean, through Instagram.
- 0:51There's a lot, actually.
- 0:52Instagram.
- 0:52Do I read all these?
- 0:54It's too late to send any more questions, by the way.
- 0:56Yeah.
- 0:57You can go for the next.
- 0:58Oh, just handpick a couple.
- 0:59Yeah, just.
- 0:59I want to do them all.
- 1:02If you can do them all, let's go.
- 1:03They might be a short shop.
- 1:05Maybe let's have a look.
- 1:06Okay.
- 1:08Sam in Tassie.
- 1:10Not from, but he's in Tassie.
- 1:12I guess on holiday.
- 1:13I don't know.
- 1:13It's Sam in Tassie.
- 1:15Maybe he's on holiday.
- 1:17If you weren't a supercars driver, were you good at any other sports?
- 1:22And do you know if any other drivers are?
- 1:25So basically, if you're at the Olympics, I think it's towards the Olympics, what are you going to do?
- 1:29Yeah, I reckon Anton, you've been pretty good at squash, eh?
- 1:322028?
- 1:32We've heard this before.
- 1:33Yeah.
- 1:34So tell us about your squash setup.
- 1:36Well, Matty was my training partner.
- 1:37He left.
- 1:38And then you got good.
- 1:40And then I got better.
- 1:42You just decided to get some coaching.
- 1:44Yeah.
- 1:44Yeah, no, I just play.
- 1:45It's just a good sport.
- 1:46Have you ever played racquetball?
- 1:48Yeah.
- 1:48I started playing that with Aaron, my teammate.
- 1:50Like pickleball?
- 1:51No, pickleball is the old person one.
- 1:54Racquetball, it's like Spanish tennis.
- 1:57So it's like with a tennis ball.
- 1:58Paddle ball.
- 1:58Yeah, paddle.
- 1:59Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:00I've played that.
- 2:01It's really fun.
- 2:01With four people, it's good.
- 2:02Yeah, it's good.
- 2:03Because it's a combination of tennis and squash.
- 2:07I like it.
- 2:08I enjoy it.
- 2:08It's good fun.
- 2:09It is cool.
- 2:11So what sport?
- 2:12So squash?
- 2:14I reckon I'd be squashed too.
- 2:15I really enjoy playing it.
- 2:16It's fun.
- 2:172028, it's coming.
- 2:18Yeah.
- 2:192032 here.
- 2:20Start training, boy.
- 2:21I'm going to help Kiwi, Australia.
- 2:24Maybe we could do a segment.
- 2:25You guys squashing it off.
- 2:27But if you watch the pros, there's no way I'm making it.
- 2:29No chance.
- 2:30It's way too good.
- 2:31I think I'm another level below that, below you.
- 2:34I reckon if we're going to have a chance, it's going to have to be like shooting or something.
- 2:37Yeah.
- 2:38To something not as like physically demanding, like running and stuff.
- 2:43No triathlons or anything like that?
- 2:45No, not for me.
- 2:45My sister is a very acclaimed triathlete, but that didn't quite reach the side of… She took all that gene pool off you.
- 2:53Yeah.
- 2:53I feel like sometimes my fitness is like I thought I was fit and then she started training.
- 2:58Woody on the New Zealand side of things.
- 3:01You've always got Woody covered.
- 3:03Yeah.
- 3:04She's done really well, but…
- 3:05I'd like to – I'm going to say this.
- 3:07I really do want to do one, like complete a triathlon in my life.
- 3:10Like I want to have a go.
- 3:12But being competitive, probably not.
- 3:15You're kind of watching.
- 3:16You do it on your own.
- 3:17Yeah.
- 3:18Maybe I just tell everyone, yeah, I did a triathlon the other weekend.
- 3:20Just practice run.
- 3:22Damn, internet can now check those results up there.
- 3:25You can't just lie.
- 3:26I'll give you some kudos on Strava.
- 3:27You just pay someone to enter as you.
- 3:29Yeah, true actually on my name.
- 3:30Yeah.
- 3:31Yeah, I did it.
- 3:33I ran a four-minute K for 15 or 21 or whatever.
- 3:35Yeah, it's pretty good.
- 3:36Just warming up.
- 3:37Yeah.
- 3:37What about you, JC?
- 3:39You got anything?
- 3:40I'm not good at any sports.
- 3:41I'm barely good at the one we're doing now.
- 3:45But no, I've never played anything.
- 3:46As a kid growing up, I was just go-karts the whole time.
- 3:49I miss the whole school sports thing.
- 3:51I love sports.
- 3:52Like watching.
- 3:52Yeah.
- 3:53I watch NRL.
- 3:53Like I'm fanatical about the Panthers.
- 3:55Like every game I watch.
- 3:57But yeah, as for playing, nah, I'm not.
- 3:59Yeah, I miss the whole sport thing, doing karting all weekend.
- 4:03Yeah, it's such a lot.
- 4:04I miss it.
- 4:04I started karting quite late, so I played every sport.
- 4:07Yeah.
- 4:07So I didn't kart until I was like 13.
- 4:09So I was like 40, basketball, 10.
- 4:10I played all of it while I was a kid.
- 4:11I don't feel like I regret doing karting all the time.
- 4:15It's definitely helped to where I am now, but…
- 4:18Like, it's nice to go and try different sports, though.
- 4:23Like, I was watching hockey the other day on the Olympics.
- 4:27And I was like... That guy that lost his finger and just damaged, he's like, just cut it off so I can go to the Olympics.
- 4:32Oh, God.
- 4:33Yeah.
- 4:33I didn't see that.
- 4:35Oh, no.
- 4:35No, I would love to have a go at hockey.
- 4:37It looks...
- 4:38kind of dangerous at the same time you beat someone with a stick yeah you could fire I couldn't hold that thing and have some guy sort of take the puck off me and not hit him with it or trip him with it anyway what do we got next one Daniel's from Adelaide and he wants to know would you rather raised Alan Moffat or Brockie
- 5:03I reckon I'm pretty quick.
- 5:04I'd love to race Brocky.
- 5:06That would be cool.
- 5:07Yeah, I think Brock obviously has the name that everyone knows.
- 5:13But I think Moff was probably before Brock.
- 5:17So Moff was the gun guy and then Brock came along.
- 5:19And so for our generation, because he's probably the closer one to us, it would probably be Brock.
- 5:25But maybe guys like...
- 5:28The Muscle and Lowndes and those guys, it's probably, Moth is probably their Brock.
- 5:32Yeah, maybe.
- 5:33That's a good point.
- 5:34That's what I'd think anyway.
- 5:36Yeah, I got to race Lowndes for a season.
- 5:37That was pretty cool.
- 5:38Yeah, I got a couple in.
- 5:43Just a few?
- 5:44I didn't quite get Brock.
- 5:44Did you have any?
- 5:45My first Bathurst was supposed to be teammates with him.
- 5:482004?
- 5:49It was.
- 5:492005?
- 5:49Yeah.
- 5:50It was supposed to be with him, but then it didn't happen, and then the next year I ended up doing it with Jim Richards.
- 5:55How's my first ones with Jim Richards and then Glenn Seaton?
- 5:57That's not bad.
- 5:58That's pretty cool.
- 5:58Yeah, it's pretty impressive.
- 6:00Not bad.
- 6:01All right, next one is Chin from Melbourne.
- 6:04How do you deal with social media or headlines about yourself?
- 6:09I just don't read any of it.
- 6:11Yeah, I really try to avoid the socials.
- 6:15It's amazing how many times someone goes, oh, and you're like.
- 6:18Like I post and then I'm like, see ya.
- 6:20Yeah.
- 6:22Because I suppose, you know, I came in and it wasn't there and then it sort of come and I always got told before all the social media stuff, never read any of your own press and all that sort of stuff.
- 6:33So I sort of stayed clear of it.
- 6:34Yeah.
- 6:35Social media has been so good for us connecting with our fans and them getting a little insight into our life as well.
- 6:40But on the other side, it can be quite damaging and all the bullying and stuff that goes on there.
- 6:46But it's the world we live in, so I just try to steer clear.
- 6:52How do you deal with all the ladies?
- 6:54No, falsely advertised there.
- 6:58I don't do that.
- 7:01Is Maddie Payne locked away?
- 7:02Yeah, I am.
- 7:03Yeah, I am.
- 7:04I'm happy about it.
- 7:04What's this young lady's name?
- 7:06Her name's Carla.
- 7:07I haven't seen an official launch.
- 7:09No, it's just on my private.
- 7:11Is it like Gala this year, maybe launch it?
- 7:13Yeah, Gala.
- 7:14Gala, yeah.
- 7:14Might launch it?
- 7:15It'll be Gala, yeah.
- 7:16She's going to come.
- 7:16They'll be out of probation period, definitely, because it's at least six months away.
- 7:20Yeah, exactly.
- 7:21No, it's going to be good.
- 7:22She's cool.
- 7:23Is she from Melbourne?
- 7:24She's from New Zealand, actually.
- 7:25Yeah, she's been living in Melbourne for a while now.
- 7:28Cool.
- 7:29Did you meet her here or there?
- 7:30Here.
- 7:32Is it like a little Kiwi club?
- 7:33I don't even know.
- 7:34It's a little social club on a Thursday, Arvo.
- 7:37It's like Kiwi Love Island.
- 7:39It's like Chance.
- 7:40I don't know what happens.
- 7:41It sounds beautiful.
- 7:42The accent, they hit and they're like, oh, oh, oh.
- 7:45And they just gravitate towards it.
- 7:46There's a Kiwi over there.
- 7:48Just some cheap stingy deal and they're all hanging around there.
- 7:55Gary Toowoomba.
- 7:59If you could have any supercar driver from any era as your co-driver, who would it be?
- 8:04Just anyone co-driver.
- 8:08That's a hard question.
- 8:09Supercar driver though, so you can't throw out Lewis Hamilton or something.
- 8:14I don't know.
- 8:15What about you guys?
- 8:16I need to think.
- 8:17Depends how hard you look into this.
- 8:18If we're talking like today…
- 8:21You want someone that raced like the cars we have today.
- 8:24You want someone that's raced the cars today, right?
- 8:26Yeah, I guess.
- 8:27But if you're thinking, you know what I mean?
- 8:29If you're just thinking for like- That's how hard you're thinking about.
- 8:32Are we thinking from the grid now?
- 8:33We can have a grid now and then an all-timer in any car.
- 8:38Yeah, okay.
- 8:40I think – What about anyone from any period that they have the skill to drive our car?
- 8:46Like they're racing at the level they're at now.
- 8:47Yeah, okay, okay.
- 8:48I reckon like – remember when they used to run like a while ago at Bathurst, like all the Volvos and that, like Ricard Rydell or something like that?
- 8:55I reckon that would be cool.
- 8:57Imagine like you and Radisic.
- 8:58Yeah.
- 8:59Yeah, the Ratsh.
- 9:00Yeah, that would be cool.
- 9:02There's a lot of great names.
- 9:04It's a hard one, isn't it?
- 9:05Yeah, it is hard.
- 9:08So you'll go with Ratt?
- 9:09Yeah.
- 9:09No, I'd go with Rydell.
- 9:11I reckon that'd be cool.
- 9:12Rydell.
- 9:12Would you be driving a Volvo too?
- 9:14No, I'd be driving my Ford.
- 9:16All right.
- 9:18I'd probably go, probably go Lowndes.
- 9:22You overlooked Richard Johnson.
- 9:24Yeah.
- 9:25Well, it was in my mind.
- 9:26He's only just realized what he's done.
- 9:28It was in my mind.
- 9:29I was just like, oh.
- 9:30I thought that's what you were going to pick.
- 9:31I haven't, like, honestly, really...
- 9:34I haven't...
- 9:36I'm just like in my history... Yeah, you're trying to back a little back to DJ.
- 9:40It only goes far as back as, like, 2010, like my supercar knowledge.
- 9:44So sort of after that, I'm like, yeah, I know it happened, but I didn't know what...
- 9:46I didn't see it, so...
- 9:47Some very famous clips of DJs.
- 9:50I've seen, I know, but I'm just thinking Lounsie.
- 9:52I've seen that.
- 9:52He does race the rock every day.
- 9:53Yeah, yeah.
- 9:55Lounsie, he's blessed by the mountain there somewhere.
- 9:57He just pops out at the right time, you know?
- 9:59He is good.
- 10:00I need a bit of that blessing.
- 10:02I always, it's a strange one.
- 10:03A lot of people are going to think it's weird, but I always wanted to do it with Garth.
- 10:07Yeah, yeah.
- 10:08I don't know.
- 10:09I just think he does an amazing job up there every year.
- 10:11Yeah, he's super quick.
- 10:13He knows the place.
- 10:14He's a great, like, hard racer, but as well, he's like a real strategic guy.
- 10:22Also, yeah, we're teammates for so long.
- 10:24So, yeah, I think Garth would be a cool one to do with.
- 10:27Yeah, I'm looking forward to this.
- 10:28Yeah, it's going to be awesome.
- 10:30You're doing it with him?
- 10:31Yeah.
- 10:32There you go.
- 10:33Yeah, I get to live out your dream.
- 10:36That's cute.
- 10:37That's cute.
- 10:38But he's super strong up there.
- 10:40And I remember every year we were teammates and we'd sort of roll into Bathurst time and he's sort of the joker and the fun guy like normally.
- 10:46And then we get to Bathurst and he just turns into a complete asshole.
- 10:50Yeah.
- 10:51hardcore asshole just lives for that week yeah and then Monday he's normal again it's like something comes over him you know like you would have we'd have the the demon of the mountain the full moon comes out and he's like werewolf like we would always stay in the same hotels and whatever all year we'd get to Bathurst and he's like I need my own house and he has his own house like away from everyone else maybe that's what I need to do this year
- 11:12I need my own house.
- 11:13Yeah.
- 11:13Just turn into a bread for a week.
- 11:16Sounds good.
- 11:17I've got a good one here from Phil on the Gold Coast.
- 11:19JC, are you actually retiring because I want to sell my house in Coomera?
- 11:24Oh, this wouldn't be Phil my trainer, would it be?
- 11:27He lives in Coomera.
- 11:28Don't know, but he wants to sell a house.
- 11:30So what's the – I can do your deal, Phil.
- 11:31Let's negotiate it now.
- 11:32We can get the – Medium price in Coomera and then what's your commission?
- 11:35Let's go.
- 11:36You've run at about 8% commission.
- 11:388%?
- 11:42You're selling on the black market.
- 11:43I can throw in a hot lap and some tickets to the event, Phil.
- 11:47So I'll be around this afternoon to sign you up.
- 11:49There you go.
- 11:50That's a cool one.
- 11:51I can at least fill my trainer.
- 11:52Have you been selling any – have you started – like are you doing that on the side or just – No, yeah.
- 11:57We've done it.
- 11:58You're doing it now.
- 11:59You're doing it, right?
- 12:00Yeah.
- 12:00Is it good?
- 12:01Yeah, it's crazy.
- 12:03It's fun.
- 12:03I didn't think that it would be something that I would have –
- 12:07We'd spend our lives as drivers selling ourselves to our team owners, to the public, to sponsors and whatever.
- 12:13So you're sort of naturally a salesman.
- 12:15But now you actually have something that exists other than a dream.
- 12:18Yes, and now you have to sell someone else's dream and their houses and lifestyle and all that sort of stuff.
- 12:22But I've always been involved with buying and selling.
- 12:27property and renoing and all that sort of stuff.
- 12:29So it's something that interests me.
- 12:32And, yeah, it's going along pretty good.
- 12:34I'm pretty excited to see you driving down like Hope Island, like a Mercedes C-Class coupe with a suit on.
- 12:39I just look over and it's just JC just going to the next open.
- 12:42Yeah, I had a suit on this morning.
- 12:43I always had to roll it off to come in here, which is funny.
- 12:47I should advertise me at your place so you can wake up and see me every morning.
- 12:50If you give me the right price, I'll sell any day.
- 12:52I didn't mean sell it.
- 12:54I can sell it if you want, if you're on the market.
- 12:57Everything's for sale always, right?
- 12:59Everything's got a price.
- 13:01This is probably more for Matt.
- 13:03It's were you surprised by the Richie news?
- 13:06And then it asked, do drivers need a second year?
- 13:09So...
- 13:11I guess it's a good question.
- 13:14Yeah, I think, you know, like I've really enjoyed working with Richie.
- 13:19It's been really fun.
- 13:20Like I didn't really know him at all before this year.
- 13:22And, you know, obviously he's done amazing things overseas.
- 13:27Like everyone knows how tough it is over there.
- 13:30So, yeah, I've really enjoyed working with him.
- 13:33You know, we're really good friends now and it's sad to see him go but, yeah,
- 13:39Unfortunately, it just sometimes doesn't work out.
- 13:42Like it just – you hope for these things and then sometimes the chemistry just doesn't work or it's something else.
- 13:50I'm not sure but yeah, it's – I'm sure he's going to push hard for the rest of the year and try and do the best he can.
- 13:57But yeah, I think I'll be friends with him for a very long time even after this year.
- 14:03I think he's a top bloke and –
- 14:05Yeah, I enjoy hanging out with them.
- 14:06It's cool.
- 14:07It's hard when you come into the sport, like as a rookie, it's always like you want a two or three year deal.
- 14:12You want that just in case you need the time.
- 14:14But it's hard when you have them one year as well, right?
- 14:18Yeah, and these cars are hard to learn now.
- 14:21They are hard to drive and it's hard to adapt to when it's so different to anything else, right?
- 14:28I know he's driven supercars for a long time, like for quite a few years prior, but these cars are hard and the categories, I feel like, more competitive than it's ever been at some stages.
- 14:40It's the quality of the teams is just everyone's at a high level.
- 14:43Yeah, exactly.
- 14:44So it's so like one little mistake and you're outside the top 15 in qualifying.
- 14:49I don't think anyone can deny his talent.
- 14:52Yeah, absolutely.
- 14:53What he's done internationally has been amazing.
- 14:54Like he got all the way...
- 14:56You know, to the second last step.
- 14:58Yeah, he got to the stepping door.
- 15:00Which is a feat on their own.
- 15:01And I think the tough thing for Richie, I think when he came back to Tickford, I think he got screwed over there with that fourth car thing.
- 15:08And then he went to the GRM thing and that was sort of all – GRM was closing up and it was just a real shit show for him.
- 15:16So he's had two –
- 15:17goes at it when it's been a half-assed effort.
- 15:20So it hasn't left a good taste in his mouth either at those times.
- 15:23And then coming in with you guys and with it only being a one-year deal, I feel so much pressure.
- 15:29And after what he's done in his junior career and then how his other two supercar drives have gone, for him it would have been, I think –
- 15:40you would have seen the best of him if he had a longer first, like a longer contract.
- 15:44Just say if it was two years rather than one year because as you guys know, you do, yeah, okay, it's a one-year deal but three months into the first year, you're already thinking and trying to plan for the future and trying to do another deal and if the team is interested and not going to do that deal, then –
- 16:02There's so much pressure and then there's drama within the team.
- 16:07If he's wanting to stay and they're not wanting him to stay and it just snowballs and it's never going to be conducive to a good environment for him to succeed and him to deliver his best results.
- 16:17So I personally think he's had a hard slog in supercars.
- 16:20Yeah, it's been very hard.
- 16:22And I think it's… It's a hard game in general, isn't it?
- 16:24Yeah, yeah.
- 16:25But even like you plug him into that Triple Eight when everything was mint and it wasn't the pressure of being the main driver and all that sort of stuff.
- 16:34And the guy did an amazing job.
- 16:35Exactly.
- 16:35And then when he did Bathurst in that wild card with Murph and the speed that he had in qualifying.
- 16:41He did a mega job.
- 16:42The guy has got the speed.
- 16:44He's got a lot of raw talent and I think he's capable of being a very good driver.
- 16:50It just needs to be the right environment, I think, and it needs to be the right deal.
- 16:55It's hard to come into a – I remember last year, like my first year, and I'm 18th and then I'm 24th at Sydney and I'm like –
- 17:04oh my God, like have I forgotten how to drive or something like that and you start panicking and then it's kind of the beauty of having that longevity to know that, okay, I'm still learning and all of that I can, you know, and then we had a great end of the year.
- 17:19So it's tough.
- 17:21It really is.
- 17:22So do you guys announce Kaya next couple of days or?
- 17:26That was actually the next question.
- 17:27I have it written here.
- 17:29So how do you feel about losing Kai and you getting Kai?
- 17:32The question here from John is, is Kai going to be Matt's teammate next year or Anton or someone else?
- 17:38So basically they want to know who's driving the other car.
- 17:41He's not driving with me, I'll tell you that.
- 17:43I thought for a long time it was going to be you.
- 17:45I thought you were going to make the change.
- 17:46So it is going to be yours.
- 17:49No, but then...
- 17:50Thought.
- 17:51It's here.
- 17:51No, but then... You just dumped it.
- 17:53Lickety.
- 17:55No, I'm pretty sure it's Brodie.
- 17:58What?
- 17:58Brodie's your teammate.
- 17:59Yeah, I thought so.
- 18:00For you?
- 18:01You look at us like I'm a window.
- 18:02So you haven't grown as your teammate now?
- 18:04I don't know.
- 18:04Maybe it's either.
- 18:05Maybe it's someone else.
- 18:07Maybe it's you.
- 18:09Maybe it's you.
- 18:09I don't know.
- 18:10It can't be me.
- 18:10I tried to be yours last year and I didn't get it.
- 18:13I didn't know that.
- 18:15I didn't know that.
- 18:17No, I kind of had speculation because I knew you probably didn't want to move back to Melbourne.
- 18:22But you said Melbourne's got the same weather as Queensland.
- 18:24Yeah.
- 18:25No, it's very different.
- 18:26Did you?
- 18:26I reinstated it.
- 18:27Oh, okay.
- 18:29So it doesn't sound like Kai's going to be announced here today.
- 18:32No, no.
- 18:33I don't know what you're talking about.
- 18:34You 100% know who's driving that car.
- 18:36Oh, maybe I do.
- 18:38You almost said, of course I do.
- 18:39Maybe I do.
- 18:40Does it start with K?
- 18:41K.
- 18:42You could have said yes because it could be first in your last night.
- 18:47Not disclosing any information.
- 18:50Yeah, all right.
- 18:52Well, what about your team?
- 18:54Are you going to stay?
- 18:5630-year deal, mate.
- 18:58It's done.
- 18:59I thought you were going to go there and then Kai was going to go to your seat.
- 19:04That's what I thought was going to happen the whole time.
- 19:06And what about Will?
- 19:07Because you and Brenton are good mates, aren't you?
- 19:10Yeah.
- 19:10Yeah, so I was like, sure they're going to hang out all year and race cars.
- 19:14But what about for you guys?
- 19:16Like, where's Brody going to go, do you think?
- 19:19What's he doing?
- 19:20He's probably the biggest player in the market.
- 19:24I heard Premier.
- 19:25Yeah, I think he's the one.
- 19:26Yeah, I think I heard the same.
- 19:28But then I've heard it to you guys and Will's to Premier.
- 19:31Yeah.
- 19:32So where do I go?
- 19:34You're staying there.
- 19:35Oh, yeah, you're staying.
- 19:36You have a 30-year deal.
- 19:37It's a 30-year deal.
- 19:38It's confirmed.
- 19:39I heard that you decided which way you were going to go and whichever way you didn't go, Kai, was the other way.
- 19:44Yeah, right.
- 19:45So we just had to, like, mean kite.
- 19:47So you pulled the Trump guy.
- 19:48Yeah, right.
- 19:49The big play.
- 19:49You slid it back out, that contract.
- 19:51Yeah, just put it in.
- 19:53Oh.
- 19:54Hang on.
- 19:55Here comes Kai.
- 19:56Here it comes back out.
- 20:01Okay, you guys... Leave all those seats aside.
- 20:03Who's going to end up at Erebus?
- 20:05Exactly.
- 20:06I think it's going to be a rookie.
- 20:08Yeah, I think it's a super two.
- 20:09I think it's a... Who's there?
- 20:11Barry's done it many times before.
- 20:13Jared Hughes?
- 20:14Yeah, there's a company.
- 20:15He's one of Paul's favorites too, isn't he?
- 20:17I think he's a contender.
- 20:19Cooper Murray?
- 20:19Yeah, that's a good call.
- 20:21He did do quite well in that.
- 20:22He's sort of like... Super cheap.
- 20:24He's going pretty good.
- 20:25He liked his performance there, didn't he?
- 20:26No, I think he did good to qualify.
- 20:28Do you like wild cards?
- 20:29Yeah.
- 20:29What's your feeling on wild cards?
- 20:31I think they're great for the sport.
- 20:33Okay.
- 20:33Okay.
- 20:33Did you ever do one?
- 20:34You didn't do a wild card, did you?
- 20:36No.
- 20:36No, I think we were trying to, but it just never worked.
- 20:40I don't think we had the third car at Carly Grove to do one that year.
- 20:45Right.
- 20:47I would have liked to, though.
- 20:48I think it would have been fun.
- 20:50At the bend or something like that, I reckon.
- 20:52So what would you say your percentages are of staying where you are?
- 20:55Percentages?
- 20:56Yeah, like out of 100.
- 20:58I haven't really thought about it.
- 20:59It's too early in the year.
- 21:00That is a lie.
- 21:01Too early in the year.
- 21:03I don't think about it.
- 21:03I can guarantee you've already done it.
- 21:05I'll let everyone in the background deal with it.
- 21:0630-year deal.
- 21:08I just heard a 30-year deal.
- 21:09Yeah.
- 21:09Confirmed.
- 21:10Including co-driving, obviously.
- 21:11It was going to be 40, but then because he didn't pick Richard Johnson as he's co-driving.
- 21:15I lost 10 years off the top.
- 21:1610 years off it.
- 21:1830 years, where does that take me?
- 21:19That takes me into my 50s.
- 21:21That's a good start.
- 21:21That'd be a pretty good one.
- 21:22Does anyone remember Decade Dave?
- 21:24Yeah, I was there.
- 21:25Yeah, you would have been there.
- 21:26I was there at the time.
- 21:27Oh, Decade Dave.
- 21:28Yeah, of course I do.
- 21:29I know, I know.
- 21:29Quickest 10 years of my life.
- 21:31Yeah.
- 21:38Does anyone know what the format is?
- 21:40I think we're just always two races now, aren't we?
- 21:43Are they 200s or are they?
- 21:45I would say 200s.
- 21:48Two 200s?
- 21:49I'm taking a guess on 200s.
- 21:50Yeah.
- 21:51I'm not really sure.
- 21:52They usually are there, aren't they?
- 21:54Yeah.
- 21:54What do you reckon?
- 21:55I reckon we need... Two stops.
- 21:57I still reckon the best formatting was my first year, which was like a 200-ish on a Saturday, then like a big race on the Sunday.
- 22:07Do you remember that?
- 22:08Oh, yeah.
- 22:08We'd always do like a double fuel drop on the Sunday.
- 22:11It'd be like 300 Ks or something.
- 22:12We sort of did a mini Enduro every time.
- 22:14It was like, yeah, at least 250 every Sunday.
- 22:16Really when we did the 300 at Eastern Creek?
- 22:18Yeah.
- 22:18Yeah.
- 22:19Just straight up 300.
- 22:20I had no helmet fan the whole race.
- 22:22I remember it.
- 22:22It was so annoying.
- 22:24That was that year, same year.
- 22:26That wouldn't have been hard work.
- 22:28So after a couple of podiums, everything going good, you must be pretty confident rolling into Tassie?
- 22:35Um, yeah, I mean, for sure, it's been pretty good.
- 22:38You know, we had a couple of slumpers in the middle, Darwin and Perth, but other than that, it's been pretty positive.
- 22:45So, yeah, I like to think we are, you know, it's, obviously, it's hard with the super softs because we saw in Darwin, they change up a lot and some people that were strong could be slow, you know, and, but yeah, I enjoy going to Tassie, so, and I want it to be a track that I really like going to, so...
- 23:05I feel like we could do well.
- 23:07With how cold it is, it's going to be interesting.
- 23:09Yeah, it's going to be lap four and qualifying or something.
- 23:12Like that cold?
- 23:13It's always lap two, three.
- 23:15Yeah, you always do two warm-up laps.
- 23:17Yeah, I reckon it's going to be sketchy qualifying there.
- 23:20So we think AAA are probably going to be the...
- 23:24The Big Guns, coming on the 16th and 18th of August.
- 23:28All right.
- 23:29Who's sponsoring it?
- 23:31Tasmania.
- 23:32The Big Guns.
- 23:34Remember when, who was that, Crumpo called The Big Guns on TV?
- 23:36Yeah.
- 23:38I tried to tease him about it after my little shootout lap, and then I said happy birthday to someone I shouldn't of.
- 23:45I heard the mouthpiece.
- 23:46I didn't hear that.
- 23:47What happened there?
- 23:48Was that just heat of the moment?
- 23:50Yeah, I don't know.
- 23:51I don't know.
- 23:52The brain.
- 23:53Yeah.
- 23:55Was that at Townsville?
- 23:56Yeah.
- 23:57What did you say?
- 23:57How bad was your night that night?
- 23:59I said happy birthday to my ex-wife.
- 24:01Oh, that's right.
- 24:02I saw that.
- 24:03But I was referring to my current wife.
- 24:05What happened there?
- 24:07Was that the worst?
- 24:09Surely you had the worst night of your life that night.
- 24:13Luckily enough.
- 24:15Teagan, is super cruisy.
- 24:18Yeah.
- 24:18And yeah, she was fine.
- 24:20She laughed about it actually.
- 24:22Yeah, okay.
- 24:22Which is, I'm the luckiest guy in the world.
- 24:24Any other guy would have been divorced again at that point.
- 24:28That's a big stuff up and to walk away from it, you've done well.
- 24:31As I was saying it, I was just trying to swallow the words back in again.
- 24:35But yeah, so that was pretty funny.
- 24:37But yeah, so I won't tease Neil about his big guns mistake again.
- 24:41Did you guys see when Crumper was going on about the breaks at Townsville?
- 24:45No.
- 24:46And he was like, here, you got the big break.
- 24:49And then he was like, he's...
- 24:51Doing some hand gestures, wasn't he?
- 24:53Oh.
- 24:53No, he just...
- 24:54Roughly how big was the break?
- 24:55No, I can't believe you guys didn't see it.
- 24:57Do you guys watch the races back?
- 24:59No.
- 24:59Yeah, but I don't, like, watch all of it.
- 25:02I watch the whole race back.
- 25:03Like, even the commentary before and after, you watch the panel, all of it?
- 25:06Yeah, yeah, sometimes.
- 25:08Yeah.
- 25:08I'm just interested.
- 25:09I'm just a race back.
- 25:09It just happened that you went really good, and they're like, they're talking about that pain for 50% of it.
- 25:13No, but he was talking about the break.
- 25:16Did you watch Darwin back when you struggled?
- 25:17Yeah.
- 25:18Ah, yeah.
- 25:19Oh, you did?
- 25:20Yeah, well, I was trying to work out what you guys were doing.
- 25:23How many times did you watch the win?
- 25:25Me when?
- 25:26Yeah.
- 25:26Today?
- 25:28No, no, I only watched race back once.
- 25:31Every race?
- 25:31No, you didn't.
- 25:32You watched it back once, you showed your girlfriend another time?
- 25:35Nah.
- 25:35Then you watched it?
- 25:36Nah, nah.
- 25:37I watched it alone one time.
- 25:38It's actually really funny because when I came back to Melbourne, my girlfriend was house-sitting for some of their friends, family friends.
- 25:46And in their house, they have a theater room, right?
- 25:49And I'm like, man, going to get in the theater room.
- 25:52I'm going to put it on KO.
- 25:53Watch my race win back.
- 25:54Watch the house.
- 25:55In some person's house.
- 25:57Oh, man, it was great.
- 25:58I had the best time.
- 26:00Okay.
- 26:02I think we have to wrap up.
- 26:03We're just going to shut down.
- 26:04We'll talk forever.
- 26:05We're having a good time.
- 26:06It will, but it's been great having you both here.
- 26:09Thank you.
- 26:09The chat has been awesome.
- 26:11As you can see, we had to just abruptly shut it off.
- 26:13You've been a good host, Jason.
- 26:14Yeah.
- 26:15I don't know about that.
- 26:16The hostess with the mostess.
- 26:17You should keep this up.
- 26:18If you guys want to jump in the market or selling the properties you have, just don't forget to give me a call.
- 26:23I'll work it in my garage.
- 26:24McGrath or any of you listening.
- 26:25You've got a car grabber?
- 26:26Yeah, it's a car.
- 26:27McGrath, North Gold Coast.
- 26:28So jump on and I'll do a deal for you anywhere nationally.
- 26:32Surely Matt is in the buying market.
- 26:34Ah, nah, I'm still, I'm pretty happy with Ray.
- 26:36But the next event coming up, Tassie, 16th to 18th of August.
- 26:41It's been the driver's only Queensland edition.
- 26:43It's been great.
- 26:44Yeah, I've enjoyed it.
- 26:45Go again sometime.
- 26:47Thank you.
