- 0:00Dot com Welcome to the Daily quote, a podcast designed to
- 0:06kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:09I'm your host Andrew McGivern for August 22nd.
- 0:12Today is never been better day. And before you start wondering
- 0:16about coffee beans or Lima beans, let me tell you about the
- 0:20most heartwarming origin story you'll hear today.
- 0:23This special observance was created to honor Bean, a golden
- 0:28retriever therapy dog from Morgantown, PA, who has touched
- 0:32countless lives with what his humans call being love Never
- 0:39being Better. Day was founded in 2017 by the
- 0:42Dragger Group and officially recognized by the National Day
- 0:46Calendar to celebrate the unconditional love the dogs
- 0:49bring to our lives, particularly therapy dogs like Bean.
- 0:54Bean is a cancer survivor himself who has become a
- 0:57celebrity therapy dog, spreading joy in hospitals, schools,
- 1:01breeding programs and anywhere else people need emotional
- 1:05support. What makes Bean special isn't
- 1:08just his therapeutic work, it's his approach to life.
- 1:13Despite facing his own health challenges, Bean embodies pure
- 1:16joy, living completely in the moment and sharing love with the
- 1:20bandit. The phrase never been better.
- 1:24It captures that wonderful canine philosophy of finding
- 1:27happiness in the simplest things, a belly rub, a walk, a
- 1:31kind word, or just being present with someone who needs comfort.
- 1:37Being and therapy dogs like him remind us that sometimes healing
- 1:41comes not from complicated solutions, but from simple
- 1:44presence, unconditional acceptance, and what Bean's
- 1:48family calls spreading love everywhere you go.
- 1:52Which brings us to today's quote from the famous psychiatrist and
- 1:55Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankel, who once said
- 2:00everything can be taken from a man but one thing, the last of
- 2:06the human freedoms to choose one's attitude in any given set
- 2:10of circumstances. Viktor Frankel's profound
- 2:14insight connects beautifully to Bean's story and what therapy
- 2:17dogs teach us about resilience and joy.
- 2:21Here's a dog who survived cancer, yet chose to dedicate
- 2:24his life to bringing comfort to others.
- 2:27Bean didn't let his circumstances defined his
- 2:29purpose or his capacity for spreading love.
- 2:34Think about what Frankel is really saying that no matter
- 2:37what happens to us, we retain the power to choose how we
- 2:40respond. Bean embodies this truth in the
- 2:44most beautiful way. He could have become a fearful,
- 2:47withdrawn dog after his health struggles, but instead he chose
- 2:51to become a source of healing for others.
- 2:54This is what makes therapy dogs so remarkable.
- 2:57They don't judge the people they comfort, they don't need to
- 3:00understand complex problems, and they don't get discouraged by
- 3:03setbacks. They simply choose, moment by
- 3:07moment, to be present with love and acceptance.
- 3:11And they've mastered what Frankel called the last human
- 3:13freedom, choosing their attitude regardless of circumstances.
- 3:19When Beam walks into a hospital room or sits with a child
- 3:22learning to read, he's not thinking about his own past
- 3:26struggles. He's choosing in that moment to
- 3:29be fully present, with joy and compassion.
- 3:32That's a form of freedom that many humans spend lifetimes
- 3:35trying to achieve. The Never Being Better
- 3:38philosophy isn't about defying difficulties or pretending
- 3:42everything is perfect. It's about choosing to approach
- 3:46each moment with curiosity, love, and the kind of resilience
- 3:49that says no matter what has happened, I can still spread joy
- 3:54today. So today, in honor of never
- 3:57being better day and beings inspiring example, consider how
- 4:02you might choose your attitude and whatever circumstance you're
- 4:05facing. Like being, you have the freedom
- 4:09to approach each moment with love, presence, and the kind of
- 4:13joy that can heal both yourself and others.
- 4:17Sometimes my dog, who isn't an actual therapy dog, is the best
- 4:22at improving my mood. A wagging tail, smiling eyes,
- 4:27and a few kisses, and instantly the world is a better place.
- 4:32Sometimes the most profound healing comes from simple
- 4:35presence and unconditional acceptance.
- 4:38You don't need to be a therapy dog to spread a little love in
- 4:41the world. You just need to choose moment
- 4:45by moment to show up as your best self.
- 4:49That's going to do it for today. May you have the courage to
- 4:51choose joy despite your circumstances, and may you
- 4:55always remember that every moment is a chance to spread a
- 4:59little love in the world. And today is also my dad's
- 5:02birthday. So happy birthday, Dad.
- 5:07I'm Andrew Mcgibbon, signing off for now, but I'll be back
- 5:11tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
- 5:16with another daily quote.
