- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome back to the Elon Musk Podcast.
- 0:05This is a show where we discuss the critical Crossroads, The
- 0:08Shape, SpaceX, Tesla X, The Boring Company, and Neuralink.
- 0:13I'm your host, Will Walden. In this episode, we're going to
- 0:17listen to Elon Musk talking at the Tesla Cyber Truck delivery
- 0:21event. Enjoy.
- 0:25Welcome to the Cyber Truck delivery event, SO.
- 0:29I'm going to do it from the back of the truck here.
- 0:41So, so once once in a while, once in once in a, once in a
- 0:45long while, a product comes along that is rare.
- 0:51That is, once in once every five to 10 years, something really
- 0:58special. A really unusual product comes
- 1:02along and we'll remember those special moments when the special
- 1:18moments so. But these things are rare.
- 1:25It's very rare that. Our product comes along that is
- 1:30seemingly impossible, that that people said was impossible.
- 1:34That experts said was impossible.
- 1:38And this is one of those times we have a we have a car here
- 1:43that experts said was impossible, that experts said
- 1:46would never be made, that it really is the most.
- 1:55I think it's, I think it's our best product.
- 1:57I think it's the most unique thing on the road and finally
- 2:01the future will look like the future.
- 2:07So, So what what we're aiming for here is something that has
- 2:17that's more truck than truck, OK.
- 2:25Thanks bro. That's literally my brother
- 2:28there. So and So what we have here is,
- 2:37is something that is a better truck than a truck while also
- 2:40being a better sports car than a sports car in the same package.
- 2:45So first of all let's you know, they talk about how you know
- 2:50trucks are tough. That's one of the defining
- 2:53characteristics of a truck. So how tough is this truck?
- 2:58Let's find out. So we actually had to come up
- 3:04with a special ultra strong Tesla designed steel alloy.
- 3:10So this alloy did this, this, this metal did not exist before.
- 3:14We needed something that you could actually manufacture, but
- 3:18that that would be have basically no corrosion that
- 3:23didn't need paint. But you can still make it in
- 3:27volume. And part of the reason that it
- 3:29has this angular shape is you can't actually stamp these body
- 3:33panels. The body panels would break the
- 3:35stamping machine. So oh, and I should say also the
- 3:42because of the steel exoskeleton, it actually has
- 3:45more torsional rigidity than a sports car.
- 3:48It has more torsional stiffness than a McLaren P1.
- 3:53So it's that's very, that's a big deal.
- 3:58Now you may remember, an incident four years ago didn't
- 4:04quite go as planned. And France?
- 4:09Maybe we should try it again. Miss.
- 4:37Yeah, yeah, great. I mean, I think you could we
- 4:45could probably have a pro picture or love it out if you
- 4:47still work. So anyway, it's the the the
- 4:51glass is tough. Basically that's what we're
- 4:53saying. So you don't have to worry about
- 4:57like rocks hitting the glass and cracking the glass.
- 5:00This glass, this glass is basically rock proof.
- 5:03It's also makes the car very quiet.
- 5:05So it's the the the thing that you'll appreciate when you drive
- 5:09the car is that is how smooth and quiet it is.
- 5:13It does, it feels, it doesn't feel like like a normal truck.
- 5:17It's it's smooth as silk and and silent.
- 5:21When you when you drive it and yeah, so in tough in terms of
- 5:27toughness and then things like rollover because the center of
- 5:30gravity is so low it doesn't roll over.
- 5:37And if you're having an argument with another car, you will win.
- 5:51In in movies, you sometimes see the hero heroine hiding behind
- 5:56the car door while being shot with bullets.
- 5:59That doesn't actually work unless you're driving a cyber
- 6:03truck. So if Al Capone showed up with a
- 6:10Tommy gun and emptied the entire magazine into the car door, you
- 6:14would still be alive. So.
- 6:18You know, and so people say like, well, you know, why'd you
- 6:21make it bulletproof? I'm like, why not?
- 6:26Do you want to? How tough is your truck?
- 6:28Because the the other trucks, the bullets go through both
- 6:30sides. So you shoot, a bullet goes
- 6:33through both sides of the car and you know, just never know.
- 6:36I mean, sometimes you get these, like, late civilization vibes.
- 6:44Yeah, you never know when the the apocalypse could come come
- 6:47along at any moment. And at here at Tesla we have the
- 6:50finest in apocalypse technology. I was on the Joe Rogan show and
- 6:59Joe bet me a dollar that his armour piercing steelhead arrow
- 7:03would go through the car. It hit.
- 7:06Now he owes me a dollar. Now what about utility?
- 7:18So strength is great, but is this, is this like you know
- 7:22perhaps just a show truck, just a you know a showpiece or the
- 7:28can't do actual work. How does it work as a real
- 7:31everyday truck? Well here we have the future
- 7:34towing the future. So basically if you can fit.
- 7:46Any cargo in the in the trunk or in the bed, you can basically
- 7:50move it around so it's got over a ton of payload capability, but
- 7:56you can really put more than that in it.
- 7:58You can tow over 11,000 lbs and it's got a super tough composite
- 8:03bed. No liner needed.
- 8:04The bed is 6 foot long, 4 foot wide and you can fit 4 by 8 feet
- 8:104 by 8 pieces of plywood in with the with the with the back down.
- 8:17So for those who are early into the truck world, there's there's
- 8:22something in the truck world called a a truck pull.
- 8:26This is really the, the, the key test of how much power does your
- 8:31truck actually have. So you have to pull this 40,000
- 8:35LB Sled and when we went to the track, we said well, well,
- 8:42what's the best? That that you've seen I said
- 8:45well it's it'd be the 4th F-350 diesel was like well let's let's
- 8:50put our truck up against that's the guy who runs the the truck
- 8:54pool said that's no way there's no way it's like well let's try
- 8:57it let's see what happens it's you know bull bullet tough you
- 9:03know like that phrase TM and can out pull an F-350 diesel.
- 9:12Has a massive towing capacity, massive bed.
- 9:16It's basically an incredibly useful truck.
- 9:19It's not just some grandstanding showpiece like me, it's it's
- 9:24actually, it's actually very useful.
- 9:30Now what about performance? So this I should say it's it has
- 9:38an adaptive air suspension so no matter what the load is you it
- 9:42will you can always have the IT can set the the ride height at
- 9:45any at low high anything. It'll automatically adjust the
- 9:48damping according to how much load it's carrying and the road
- 9:52conditions has a 17 inch ground clearance that that's a true 17
- 9:58inches that typically with a truck you'll you'll get the
- 10:01differential hanging down low, the rear differential and that's
- 10:05what you'll high side on a rock. But this is this has a
- 10:08completely flatbed so you could you could drive over basically
- 10:13anything. We actually did took the Cyber
- 10:15Truck on a Baja Rally drive. So this is insane off road
- 10:22capability. It has locking differentials,
- 10:27rear torque vectoring, and the crazy thing is we'll do this all
- 10:31in comfort. It has steer by wire which is if
- 10:38it's one of the things where most people don't know what that
- 10:40means but it's what it's how modern jets are designed the
- 10:45steer by wire which gives you a variable gain.
- 10:47So if you turn the wheel a small at the steering, the steering
- 10:50yoke a small amount in the parking lot, it will turn the
- 10:53wheels a lot. But if you if you turn it on on
- 10:55Hwy., it turns the wheels a small amount, so it it
- 10:59dynamically adjusts how how much the wheels turn according to.
- 11:04What your speed is, and this actually makes it very easy to
- 11:08drive it actually. And it has a turning circle less
- 11:11than a Model S, so this thing can pack practically turn it,
- 11:15you know, rotate on a, you know, dime.
- 11:18Basically it has incredible low speed, maneuverability, and then
- 11:27there's a lot of advanced details under the skin.
- 11:31It's the first time that a car is moving to a 48 Volt low
- 11:34voltage architecture from 12 volts which has been around for
- 11:37100 years. We have Ethernet coms,
- 11:43distributed controllers, allows for 70% less wire in the car and
- 11:49it's it's really the the internals are as advanced as the
- 11:53externals. It's it's a whole new step
- 11:55change in the technology. So let's take it to the
- 12:02racetrack and see how how does the cyber truck perform against
- 12:07a Porsche 9/11. And I should I should say this
- 12:11is this is an actual Porsche. We literally just got it from
- 12:14the dealer 2023 Porsche 9/11. So the.
- 12:34It can. It can tow a Porsche 9/11 across
- 12:37the quarter mile faster than the Porsche 9/11 can grow by itself.
- 12:48I should say tougher than bullets, tow pretty much
- 12:52anything faster than 911 while towing a 911.
- 12:58So and delivery spring begin now.
