- 0:50SPEAKER_01: It's good.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: Uh I I don't know why I said that.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: I'm tired.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: It's late.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's already 10 o'clock uh here on Wednesday night.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: We're recording.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Excited to talk about college football, but um man, this week has been a doozy already.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: I had my birthday yesterday.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: I turned 39 years old.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: That's the real issue here.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: That's the real issue.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Is I'm old.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: That's why I'm my age.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: I am old.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Um I had a great day.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Uh hung out, uh, really low key, sat around most of the time, didn't do much work, watched TV, hung up my kids, uh, ate a lot of good food.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, I got Cupertinos bagels, had some uh cocky rooster wings.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Uh my buddy Willoughby from Secret Square Squares in Richmond had some made some uh pizza special pizzas for me.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Um so it was I ate like a king uh yesterday.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: So that was really, really good.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Um can I tell you about what I got for my birthday, my 39th birthday?
- 1:44SPEAKER_03: Uh I would love for you to tell me what you got.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna go ahead and do it.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: Let me tell you about my haul.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: This is the most 39-year-old thing you've ever heard.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Um, I got a book, a book on sports betting, because I love sports betting.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: I love reading books.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: I got a cheese kit on I'm gonna make my own mozzarella.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: My wife and I are gonna make my own mozzarella.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: I got a pack of Snickers bars.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: It's so romantic, by the way.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: It's very romantic.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Mozzarella on your bodies.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: If you're not mozzarella, if you're not making cheese with your snicker another, what are you doing?
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: Um, a pack of Snickers bars because Snickers is the goat candy bar.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Don't even at me because this there's no other opinion that counts.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: And a range finder, so I can uh figure out how many yards away I'm gonna miss my golf shot uh well when I'm on when I'm on the golf green.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: So that's what I that's funny.
- 2:27SPEAKER_03: I actually almost uh sent you that very joke when I when I saw I was like, great, now you know how far away you'll miss.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: It's like it's not even a joke, it's exactly what's going to happen.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: It's one of those things.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's awesome.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: I was literally, I was walking around my neighborhood last night.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: I was uh measuring a distance between my neighbor's trash cans and my house, just like just to kind of get a get a sense of how it all works.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: And it's the kind of thing that I would never buy myself, but I don't mind someone buying for me.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: So wife.
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, it's a great, great gift.
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: Gadgets like that are always like fun, fun gifts.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: I do want to at you real quick because I am a Snickers fan myself.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: Have you ever had um the Reese's fast break sticks?
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: What?
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: No.
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: Um, just try them.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: Do yourself a favor.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: They're my favorite candy in the world.
- 3:12SPEAKER_03: And I'm not even like a sweets guy, but they're incredible.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: Reese's just check them out.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: I know you're skeptical.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: Just sticks, they're they're Reese's sticks.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: Just check them out.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: That's all I gotta say.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: All right, all right, all right.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Uh, what are you drinking tonight, Mike?
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: Uh, tonight I've got a wild turkey rare breed.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: It's uh single barrel, barrel, barrel-proof from Wild Turkey, and uh it's one of the like low-key, um sort of under the radar fantastic bourbons that you can find on the shelf.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: Um it's great.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: What do you got?
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: I am drinking another stone.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: I was drinking a stone last week too.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: My neighbor kind of put me onto it recently.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Peak conditions, uh hazy double IPA.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: It's a pink can with the stone logo.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: This is we got we got uh passion fruit and orange guava, 8.1% clocking in.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: It doesn't taste like 8.1%, so I actually really like it.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Feels less.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I like an orange guava.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: I like how it's guava.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: If you have a good guava in your beer, then you're missing out.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: So I'm yeah, I'm drinking some stone um hazy IPAs.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm the beer guy, I'm always sticking with my beers, so feel good about that.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Uh, very cool.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: So um big week of college football, humongous week of college football.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: Tons of fireworks, tons of stuff to get into.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: I think we're gonna spend probably most of the week kind of unpacking just reactions.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Everybody knows what happens, but we're gonna talk about our kind of reactions to what happened, and then we'll everyone wants to hear, everyone already knows the reality of what happened.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: They're tuning in to hear what we think about it.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: And that's what we're gonna give you.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna hit you with all the takes and we're gonna give you opinions on all the news.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, the first piece of news, the headlining news, of course, has got to be what happened in Nebraska.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: God, were we wrong about that?
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, coach, those who don't know, uh Coach Scott Frost uh lost to Georgia, Georgia Southern, falling to one and two and was canned the next day.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: He did not make it to Monday.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: He is out.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: $15 million buy-in, three games in, four and a half seasons of just losing football in Nebraska.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Man, I Mike, I never thought I'd be.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: I I was sure he was a good fit.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: I was sure.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: I was too.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: I did not see this coming.
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: Even after the last couple years, I mean, they were so close last year.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: Um, they lost so many games by single digits.
- 5:22SPEAKER_03: I mean, it was like all they needed was a couple bounces here or there, and they were a good, respectable football team.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, they could have won eight, nine games last year, coulda, shoulda, woulda.
- 5:33SPEAKER_03: Uh, and here we are, he's getting fired.
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: I really thought that they were so close that this year, this year they'd turned things around.
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: I certainly didn't think he'd be fired this early in the season.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: I thought they had like four or five just baked-in wins early on, and that maybe things would go off the rails late, and that's not what happened.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: No, and Jihiro's buy-in would went up by seven and a half million dollars by 16 days.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: If they had waited till October 1st, and instead of paying him 7.5 million, he got 15 million to hit the road.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: So you know there's some angry boosters that were like, today, he's getting fired today.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: And Nebraska was like, okay.
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: Which is incredible because they're gonna lose next week, regardless of who's coaching them.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're not it doesn't matter.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: They're not getting started early any earlier on the coaching search, they're just flushing money down the toilet.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: That's probably true, but I actually kind of think they're live.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: Next week they're playing Oklahoma.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Uh I think they're I think they're playing at home, but they're about four, I think they're 14 point spread there.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Um, I'll tell you the funny thing with that game is that line has moved a bunch.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: It was Oklahoma, it was I'm sorry, it was Oklahoma minus 14.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: It was down to like minus 11, minus 10 and a half.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: I think what's gonna happen is people are expecting Oklahoma to just like let it all fly.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: You know, interim coach Mickey Joseph.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: You mean Nebraska?
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: Yes, Nebraska let it fly.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Mickey Joseph, the first black coach in Nebraska history, not football.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: Nebraska, the entire university never had a black coach.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: First one they have is this interim, Mickey Joseph.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: I think they're just gonna like let it because Oklahoma, they're playing with house money, they fired their coach, their season's over.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: I'm with you on the logic.
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: It's just not that's not how it's gonna play out because they're just not a good football team.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I'm we're not previewing it, we're not gonna preview it today because I I think you're probably right.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: But it's just, you know, check the ticker on the bottom of your screen on Saturday.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: If you if it's mid-second quarter, mid-third, and it's close, you know, you might be flipping over over there.
- 7:16unknown: I don't know.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: Maybe maybe not.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Uh but he's not alone, man.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: It's like hot seat central, and the season has just started.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: Um, Mike, how how is your is your seat?
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Is your seat comfortable right now, the one you're sitting in?
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: Uh well, it's a dining room table chair, so it's not that comfy, but it's comfier than some of these coaches.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, would you describe the temperature as you see what I did there was I played hot when you were talking about your seat.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Because a hot seat is what coaches are who are not doing well.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: That's why it's funny.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: That's why I played, that's why I played that.
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: I got I got I got you.
- 8:01SPEAKER_03: I got you.
- 8:01SPEAKER_03: I got you.
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: I'm over here.
- 8:03SPEAKER_03: I see it.
- 8:03SPEAKER_03: I hear you.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: So it's it's it's obviously we're three weeks in, and it seems like some scenes are already over.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: Uh Nebraska's canned.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: That happened faster than we all thought.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: West Virginia, Neil Brown.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Uh he started season 0 and 2.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: He's gotta be he's his time's gotta be about over.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: Notre Dame, uh, Marcus Freeman.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: Uh he's really, I mean, he's in he's another Scott Frost type, you know, a former player, come back.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: I would not call him on the hot seat yet.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: He's the only coach at Notre Dame to start 0-3.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: Granted, one of those games was what yes, but one of those was last year in the bowl game.
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: I don't even count that.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: Okay, I'm saying I don't count it.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: His honeymoon is over.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: It's whatever Marcus Freeman was.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: It was the golden boy, and he's recruited really well.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: It'd be interesting to see if he can return.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: It's it'll be interesting to see how what Notre Dame can do with their season.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: I expect him to get better as the year goes on, but like though they're those players are looking around like, I don't know, man.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: Losing the Marshall at home is kind of something that's never okay.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't just Right.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: So they had one bad loss.
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: You know, they played really well.
- 9:06SPEAKER_03: It's it's so so funny with college football.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: I mean, a week ago, two weeks ago, he was coming off of a really respectable, respectable performance against Ohio State, and everyone was like, okay, they might have something here because no one even expected them to compete in that game.
- 9:19SPEAKER_03: Then they drop a huge one to Marshall, and all of a sudden his seat's hot.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: I think he's gonna be just fine.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: He's recruiting better than Brian Kelly ever did.
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: Just give him some time.
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 9:28SPEAKER_03: He'll have time.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's it's year one for him.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: I think you're I think you're I think you're exaggerating.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: I don't think he loses a Marshall.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: Uh other hot seats around the country.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Um, Iowa um losing to losing for the first time, I think in like nine years, I mean, to Iowa State, seven to ten.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Another abysmal offense performance.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: Lost in the shuffle in all this.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: I forgot that Kirk Forents hired his son to be the OC.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: So Iowa, who who is going, who is having, has had, does have, arguably the worst offense in Division I Power Five history.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, it is so bad.
- 9:59SPEAKER_03: They have more punts than points.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: That's unbelievable.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: More it was Mike said, more punts than points.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: Three games in the period.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: Full stop.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: Two games in the season.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: That is just unbelievably bad.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: Um, they're always which is so frustrating because Kirk Ferenc always has these great defenses and they're they're look, they look like they're repeating that again this year, but the offense is just awful.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: And I think it's gonna cost him his job.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: I really do.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: I think if something miraculous doesn't happen, I think Kirk Ferenc's time might be up.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: Well, yeah, a typical scenario um for most head coaches right now would would be to hit the eject button on the OC.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: Um and that's your kind of gotta be, yeah, and and that's where it's kind of it'll it's almost doubly bad because it looks like you made a terrible hire.
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: It looks like you made it for the wrong reasons, it's unsuccessful, and where you know, where does your loyalty lie?
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: Um they're not gonna be able to clean this up with him at the helm, and they're probably not gonna be able to clean it up without a quarterback change.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, yeah, the problem is there's nobody there.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, especially especially Patriots is Alex Padilla still there.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, he was terrible too.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: I'm not even sure.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Like, there is dude.
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: I don't even care.
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: Put a wide receiver at quarterback.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: What a triple option.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: Just run the wide receiver.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: With that defense, that might work.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Run the wishbone, bust out the 1960s flip, let's start running the veer.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Just do something.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Just do something.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Flying wedge.
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: It's it's embarrassing in Iowa right now.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: So tough.
- 11:23SPEAKER_03: And I mean, we know how bad they are, but the reason that his seat is hotter, they just don't lose to Iowa State.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: This is only their second loss to Iowa State in a half dozen years or something.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: It's it's been a while, and that's something that they kind of hang their hat on.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: It's a big rivalry.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: And so, yeah, gas has been poured on the flames.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: No, I don't know, you know, of all the things that happened this weekend, I don't know if there's anybody happier than the people in Ames Iowa right now.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: Those are those Cyclones fans right now are just dancing.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: What is so I I'm expecting Iowa, I'm expecting Kirk to fire his son this season.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: He has to.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: He has to.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: What is Thanksgiving gonna be like in that household?
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: Uh he's gonna his OC is gonna be thankful for a buyout, maybe.
- 12:49unknown: The sun.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: And you know, Mrs.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: And it's funny, it's it's also Mrs.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: Ferenc.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: So obviously, Kirk's, so so the coach's wife is gonna say, You fired our son?
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: You literally know she sides with the son.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, grandmom would.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Oh man, that's gonna be tough.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, let's move on to that.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Um, other coaches, Auburn, they're actually 2-0.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Um, I just I still think Brian Harson's days are numbered as that was my one of my hot takes earlier this season.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: We'll talk about them against Penn State.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: And then the the biggest collapse, the the ultimate honeymoon is over Texas AM losing to App State in Tech at Texas AM.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: Holy smokes, 17 to 14.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: I just although I want to talk about this in depth, but I will say while we're on the subject of hot seats, Jippo Fisher has a contract that runs him until 2031.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: They just renewed him, and he's making he's like the 10th highest paid coach in the country.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: So good luck with that.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: You know, it's like you know his buyouts like it's probably like 60 million dollars in this point.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm sure given the given the given he just renewed, although for Texas A.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: Like 75 mil.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: Probably, but for let's let's be honest, what's cool like Texas AM with so much oil money?
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: I'm not even sure a buyout even matters.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Like, if if if if this continues to devolve the way it does, and you know, the joke about Texas AM is like they always go eight and four, Texas eight and four.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: Eight and four would be a damn good year for them at this point.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: At this point, yeah.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: They're not a good football team at the moment.
- 14:20SPEAKER_03: Um well you're staring down the barrel of an SEC West schedule.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: Um, and you've got Miami.
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: Who's good up next?
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: Miami's coming to town this Saturday, and we'll talk about Miami in a second, but like Today's got to get things right in a hurry.
- 14:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, seriously.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: Um go ahead.
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, just so yeah, backing up, I I think this is exactly where you were going, breaking down their abysmal loss.
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: Um, there's so much to say about this.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: Um what was what was the spread on that game?
- 14:52SPEAKER_03: They were like 20-point favorites at home against Appalachian State, somewhere in that range.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: Um AM didn't put up 100 yards rushing.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: AM did not put up 100 yards passing.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: They didn't pass the 100 yard mark for either either statistics.
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: They got um beat and time of possession.
- 15:11SPEAKER_03: Listen to this.
- 15:12SPEAKER_03: Where do I have it?
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: 41 minutes to 18.
- 15:15unknown: Jesus.
- 15:16SPEAKER_03: And and Appalachian State ran 80 plays from the line of scrimmage.
- 15:20SPEAKER_03: A M ran 38.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that will do it.
- 15:25SPEAKER_03: This is a beatdown.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: This was like this wasn't like a flukey.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: This was this was I'm gonna line it up and we're gonna run it at you, and we're gonna control the line of scrimmage, and we're just gonna win.
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: And they did.
- 15:36SPEAKER_03: They they they controlled the game start to finish.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: AM still had a chance to tie with a late field goal and shanked it, but you know, this was embarrassing.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: And the only reason they were in that position was was the kickoff return.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: They they scored one offensive touchdown, and the second one came on a kickoff return.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: So, really, like, and those are, I mean, kudos, special teams, held a play, took it back to the took it back, got to get the six, but like that's a pretty hard thing to do.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: If you're relying on special teams, um, touchdowns at home against App State, and your coach is worth a hundred million dollars, you're in trouble.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: You're in trouble.
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, it's it's just stupid.
- 16:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, AM fans should be just furious right now.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: They've got like 50, 50 something four and five-star recruits on their current roster.
- 16:17SPEAKER_03: Appalachian State has maybe one, two.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: It's the the talent disparity is incredible.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: That's true.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: They should have just been able to line up and run the ball every time and still win.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: Although I would say most of those guys are freshmen or redshirt freshmen.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: So I was still, I mean, like in terms of I mean, I thought Texas AM at six going into preseason poll was a little different.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: I mean, you can only sign like 20-something freshmen, so I don't know how many most of them.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: My point is, I still think they were a year away from season anyway from really challenging, but honestly, they don't have a quarterback.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Hope they they have this five-star winning.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: That's a real issue.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: That's a real issue.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they have the uh Haynes King is just not good.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: They have a five-star winning the wings, who apparently is the second coming of Jesus.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: So we're might we might see him go to him later this year, but with Jimbo calling plays, who is I oh, I just I forgot without Jameis Winston is a terrible play caller.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Um I don't know.
- 17:05SPEAKER_03: Without Jameis Winston, he's not good at what he does.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Calling plays.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: Um, so I don't know like what's gonna happen.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: It's I mean, Jimbo's gotta change that defense has got to get better.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: Those kids, all those five stars, and they got a ton of them, they need to get seasoned and get and get playing fast and strong right now.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: So uh we will see.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Um let's keep it rolling other than that.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Uh all right, so obviously all these all these upsets, they all came from the same conference.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: The sunbelt.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: The sunbelt.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: So I I I can trust, I gotta ask you something.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Stunbelt, fun belt, or you just got sunbelted.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: I'm really partial to fun belt.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 17:46unknown: Okay.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: Um I like I like the vibe it gives.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: Stunbelt, um, I think it's a little disrespectful, you know.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: I I think they've they they've really they've they've come into their own.
- 17:58SPEAKER_03: They um, you know, if you if you had like the hottest of hot takes, you could you could really call them the third best conference in the country right now.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, that though that that's a spicy one.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: That is a spicy meet the boule.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: Um, no, I I I'm it's hard on the pull for the sunbelt right now.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: And actually, as a homers, the not the next spicy take is what's the best college in Virginia?
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: It might be your James Madison University Dukes uh playing in the KMU ODU.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: KMU ODU, one of those spots.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: Could be.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Um uh so between we already talked about those kind of those three upsets, uh Georgia Southern, Marshall, and App State.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: They collected from those three teams$4.2 million.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: This is typically what big schools pay little schools to show up and get the win, to get those free wins.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: They took their money and whooped their ass, which is unbelievable.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: Um, just Sunbelt having a having a moment.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: And, you know, I've never given the Sunbelt so much love and attention, and I just I want to apologize because you've clearly earned it.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: Stunbelted it is no good because that it's I think you're right.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: I think they deserve more respect.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: Well, you also have to think um Appalachian State should have beat North Carolina last week.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was a wild game.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 19:11SPEAKER_03: And that was like a 60-something to 60-something game, and then they go to AM and they win in a low-scoring bruiser of a matchup.
- 19:18SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're doing it every which way.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, this is a fun stat.
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: I saw this, so I wanted to share while we're talking about the Sun Belt.
- 19:25SPEAKER_03: Um, they are the first group of five conference to score multiple victories against top 10 opponents on the same day since 2003.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: So they're doing big things.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: Let's go fun belt.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: Sunfun belt, you know, you know who they're they're gonna be the um, you know, we we talked a lot about uh SMU or Houston or Cincinnati being the playoff party crashers.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: I'm thinking it's gonna be a Sunbelt squad.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: I've I'm changing my tune already.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: If anyone's crashing the party, I'm looking at uh, I guess who's it gonna be Georgia Southern or Marshall?
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Somebody.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: I mean it's not gonna be absolute.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Maybe Marshall.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, maybe Marshall.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: Marshall bullied Notre Dame.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, that wasn't a fluke either.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: Notre Dame has serious quarterback issues as well.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: But yeah, in fact, in fact, that catch it came out today that Tyler Buckner actually got he actually got benched.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: They bring in the guy behind him.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: Although the guy behind him uh showed him the third quarter, first playthrough interception to Marshall.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: So I'm not sure he's I'm not sure how exciting that is either.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: But um, Notre Dame has major offensive lows.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: That's actually my next take is uh when Brian Kelly left LSU, he took some guys with him from Notre Dame.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: He took their punter, uh, he took our special teams coach, took their strength and conditioning and nutritionist guy.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: He offered Tommy Reese, who's currently Notre Dame's offensive coordinator, and he turned down the job because Tommy Reese is a god in Notre Dame.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: I understand why he stayed there.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: He is also not very good at calling plays.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: I want to thank you, Tommy Reese, for not coming down to Baton Rouge.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: It's a pretty short idea.
- 20:46SPEAKER_03: And I want to thank you.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: I don't have much else to say about Notre Dame.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: Um, Marshall did a great plan that came up and punched me in the mouth and beat him.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: Um and Notre Dame's offense, there was, I mean, benching Tyler Buckner.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Hopefully, that's a shot in the arm from Notre Dame Faithful listening right now.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: Um, but uh they're Notre Dame's got a good D.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: They do have a good D.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: They're a lot like AM.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Like AM's I obviously what happened to App State's no good, but a lot of that is, like you said, being on the field for 40 minutes.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: You know, like another situation where if Haynes King or Tyler Buckner can play up to their level of Texas AM, Notre Dame, or expect their quarterbacks to play, they probably both win.
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: But they both Yeah, college football is such a quarterback-centric game.
- 21:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, you see it in the NFL too, but I mean, it's it's so much more apparent in college football, where literally, prime example, Anthony Richardson last week um against Utah for Florida.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: I mean, he put the team on his back, he can win a game by himself.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: Fast forward a week to the game against Kentucky.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: Guess what?
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: It's not a one-man show.
- 21:45SPEAKER_03: You can't always do it by yourself, and Florida loses.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: And so when you have a um a dynamic quarterback that can bail you out of bad plays, bail you out when somebody makes a mistake, um, they can win.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: So they can make a coach look like a genius.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: We can't.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: And that I mean that also not giving away short fields, protecting the ball when you're on the road, you know, like you know, playing, keeping the game under control.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: There are so many things that a smart, level-headed, mature quarterback can do.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: And uh this and Texas AM nor Notre Dame seem to have that guy at the moment.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: At least they sure as you know what didn't have it this past Saturday.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: So um, but they're not the only quarterbacks.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: We I mean there's a lot of big name quarterbacks who do not have big name days.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Uh Tower Buckner, we talked about Haynes can we talked about Quinn Ewers.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're gonna talk about Bama, Texas here in a second.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: Uh, he got hurt though, so I'm gonna give him a pass because he looked real good through you know what didn't get hurt?
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: That mullet.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: Still doing good.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: I think it's still flowing in the way.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: That glorious multi flap is still whipping.
- 22:45SPEAKER_03: I think he threw on a Wrangler jacket as soon as he hit the sidelines.
- 22:48SPEAKER_03: They like gave him an MRI, and he was like, yo, give me that jean jacket, baby.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: He put a towel over his head.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: You could tell he was drooping a little bit more on the back just to keep the mullet covered as well.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: He wanted to cover the situation.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: We gotta take care of it.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: Does not look good.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: South Carolina, they lost um 44 to 30, I believe.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: Arkansas is good.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: Arkansas is very good.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: We're gonna find ourselves talking more and more about them this season.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: But Spencer Rattler, obviously the big name transfer from Oklahoma.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: I didn't, I didn't, I didn't love what I saw.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: So Spencer Rattler, obviously, we talked about him a ton last year.
- 23:27SPEAKER_03: He's had a huge just up and down career.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: And I will I'll come to his his aid a little bit in that South Carolina is pretty woeful on the offensive line.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: They've got a lot to they've got a lot of problems there, and they've got a lot of a lot of question marks there.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: And so he's kind of, you know, he's in a new system, he's trying to figure it out.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: And meanwhile, Arkansas, who's an extremely physical team, you know, is hitting him every play.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: So um he he still you know he put up some yards, but um, you know, I don't think I expected that game to go any differently, to be honest.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: I thought Spencer Rattler would be better than he is.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: I just I he he's he's missing balls, he's not protecting the ball very well, he's turning it over.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: Um I his office offensive line is bad, and we knew that coming into the season, but um, you know, I kind of thought he was gonna be a shot in the arm for South Carolina, and I have not seen it yet.
- 24:20SPEAKER_03: But well, I think he will be, but that doesn't mean necessarily that they are ready to compete or win a game against uh you know on the road against a top 10 Arkansas team.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: No, definitely not.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: Certainly not.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: Uh let's talk about um Texas Alabama, which was the game of the week.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: Uh, of all the greatest things that happened, that was probably the game of the week.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, those you don't know, um, Alabama eked out a just wild, wild one.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: I think his world final score was 19 to 17.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, there's two field goals, two on the in the very last minute.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Um, Quinn Ewers, a Texas quarterback, who was looking very sharp through the first quarter or so, went down with a um shoulder injury.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: Um, and uh the Hudson card, the backup, who's not terrible.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: He's I mean, he's no, he played really well.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: He played really well for who kind of who he is and kind of what his ceiling is.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: He's not Quinn Ewers, that's for sure.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: But um, he he hung tight and Texas had him.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: I had him on the ropes at home.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: That you know, that Bryce Young uh scramble was probably the play of the game.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: Um Texas is back.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 25:24SPEAKER_03: Uh so here's the thing.
- 25:26SPEAKER_03: Um Texas really impressed me in the trenches.
- 25:30SPEAKER_03: They they put a lot of pressure on Bryce Young.
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: I think they rattled him early.
- 25:34SPEAKER_03: They did.
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: Um, they they exposed some some shortcomings that Bama had that I think a lot of people knew that they had, especially when you talk about playmakers on the outside.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: Um they really didn't have anybody they could lean on, you know, at the wide receiver position.
- 25:49SPEAKER_03: Uh, but you know, Texas played physical, they tested them.
- 25:55SPEAKER_03: And in the end, um, you know, going back to what we talked about earlier, the better quarterback won.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: Uh Ewers was taken off, you know, on a on a cart, and Bryce Young was Bryce Young.
- 26:06SPEAKER_03: He did what he did.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, I we were watching the game, and I it was fourth quarter, Texas was winning, and I said, Bryce Young's about to have one of those Heisman moment drives, and he did what he did uh with the help of a holding call that didn't get called typical Bama fashion.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: There were some calls.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, I mean that's a that's pretty pretty decent synopsis.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: I think I mostly agree.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: Um, a couple things stood out to me.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: He didn't do it with his arm, he was rattled for sure.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: His his receivers, they don't, I don't think they have they that they do not have the weapons um in the backfield or out wide like they used to.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: I keep thinking one of these guys is gonna emerge and somehow be a first rounder next year.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: Hasn't happened yet.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: Um, Bama, also the most penalties in any game in a Nick Saban era in this in the 15 years he's been there, 15 penalties, very, very un Saban-like.
- 26:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I agree.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: And you could see it, it wasn't just Bryce Young that was rattled.
- 27:03SPEAKER_03: I mean, their team looked a little rattled.
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: Um, Texas fans, Texas environment, they did their job.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: But when you think about it, even going back to last year, Texas or uh Bama had problems on the road.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: They had problems on the road at LSU, obviously at AM, at Auburn.
- 27:17SPEAKER_03: They should, you know, all those games they should have rolled and obviously did not.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: So this is this is not like a new issue for them.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: It's a new issue for Saban over his tenure, but this is an issue that's been creeping up on them since last year.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: This might be one of those games what happened last year where we're like, oh, Bama's vulnerable, oh, Bama's vulnerable, and then they go off riddle off 11 straight.
- 27:39SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: I know way better than to call them vulnerable.
- 27:41SPEAKER_03: I've seen it too many times where they hang 100 the next week.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think they're playing uh UL Monroe or LaTeX this year.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: I think the spread is 49, Alabama minus 100.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: They're gonna this is gonna be one of those Nick Saban.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: I bet you this week of practice was hell for them.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a get right game.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: I expect uh Saban to kind of re re-energize that team, get them focused again.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: But enough about Bama.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Also really impressed with Texas defenders.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: They were making tackles in the open field left and right.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: They got some guys, they were got some guys flying to the ball.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I kind of thought go ahead.
- 28:13SPEAKER_03: Oh, I was gonna say they do look good.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, to your comment about them being back, I have to say Texas is the only team, and maybe Notre Dame, that would lose and climb in the rankings.
- 28:25SPEAKER_03: I mean I I I I I I in one way I commend the AP for doing it because do I think it's correct?
- 28:33SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: But is that the way they function for any other team in the country?
- 28:37SPEAKER_03: No, no, absolutely not.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: No, that's true.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: Um, but it is correct.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, Texas is better, is it?
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, I would with the game.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: They're a top 25 team.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Yes, absolutely.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: That's my point.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: And after what the game I saw, even though they lost and they should have won, I or could have won, I should say, um, they they will look at a top 25 team.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: And they have some guys on defense.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: And obviously, you as we know, like good defenses and good quarterback play takes you a long way.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: So um Texas is after I was expecting Texas to lose by 40, and they sure as sure as you know what didn't.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: I think Texas is being a whole lot more interesting.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: The Red River shootouts right around the corner.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: Um, Quinn Ewers is supposed to be back.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: I think I read on Twitter this morning, they're saying less than a month.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Um, so if they can manage some of these clunker games and then um they can get them, they can get him back.
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, Texas, Texas might be Texas might be everything's still in front of them winning the Big 12.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, uh if they're if they're somehow a one-loss team going into uh December, I mean playoffs is still on the table.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying they're gonna get there by any means.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: Can you imagine if we already had the 12-game playoff?
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: That game wouldn't even matter.
- 29:36SPEAKER_03: We wouldn't even be talking about it.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: You could sit yours for like three or four more games and still squeeze Texas in there at the 12th spot.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: But for whatever, but whatever, for 2022, everything is still on the table for Texas.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: So good on them.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Uh let's keep it all stuff about them.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: Uh Baylor and BYU, late game.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: 10-15 kick.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: I actually watched the first half, couldn't watch the second.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: I caught the highlights later.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: BYU won in double overtime.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: I think they're both top 10 teams.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: I really do.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: I think they're both well coached, very well coached, actually.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: Um, and I think they're both going to be um playing good, really good football, winning a lot of games the rest of the year.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: That's that's that's about all I could say.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Could have gone either way.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it that was a great game.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: I think uh BYU certainly deserves a spot in kind of the top 10, top 15 range.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: Um, kudos to Baylor for going on the road in Provo and playing them.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: Uh Baylor, pump your brakes a little bit, calling them a top 10 team.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: They played really well, but they've got some issues at quarterback.
- 30:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, when you look at the stats, he went 18 for 28, 137 yards and a touchdown.
- 30:39SPEAKER_03: Um, they've got to get some things fixed a little bit there.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: He's got to get some help.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: His offensive line is awesome.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: And he's but he he doesn't have any receivers really proven yet.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: Doesn't really have any, he doesn't really have a ton of great running back help.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, they're still awesome in the front seven.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: Their secondary, I expect, is also not good at the moment, but I expect Dave Aranda has been even before LSU, even at Wisconsin, he was he was maximizing kids' secondary.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm expecting them to get better that part of my analysis of Baylor being a top 10 team is they're going to become a top 10 team in the meantime.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: Losing to Baylor, using the BYU in double overtime in Utah at late at night, there's nothing wrong with that.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: I think I mean BYU's BYU's double-digit win team this year, I really think.
- 31:21SPEAKER_03: No, I know, and that's why it's kind of a schedule head scratcher, like we talked about.
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, Arkansas's got to play BYU too in the same fashion.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: It's like there's no benefit to scheduling that game.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: There just isn't, especially when you're playing a tough in-conference schedule already.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: Uh, but yeah, I agree.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: BYU's gonna be a super tough team this year.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: Uh what else we got?
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Um, two words, rock chalk, rock chalk, jayhawk is what I mean.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: Kansas, Lance Leopold uh took the job the second year.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: He was too uh two and ten last year.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: Starting this year, two and oh, probably the nail and coffin.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: They beat West Virginia this past week, probably the nail in coffin and Neil Brown's job.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: Uh gotta be one of the most impressed so far.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, they could easily lose the next 10 games, uh, but Kansas is showing signs of light.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: Those kids, they're playing hard, they're playing well, and they're two and oh.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: Go Kansas.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think, I mean, to you know, to get off to a good start.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, West Virginia, the over-under on them, we've talked about it was like five and a half for this year.
- 32:20SPEAKER_03: I think this was one that Vegas probably had them winning to get to that number.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: Um, historically, Kansas has been probably one of the worst college football programs in the Fallout 5.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, good, good job.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: Um, you're not just a basketball school anymore.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: Neither is Duke, also 2-0, I think.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: Um, so keep your eye on the Rock Chalk Jayhawks.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: They might be interesting a little bit later.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, so kudos to them two.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: They are they are they the demon?
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: Are they uh the the demon decades of 2024?
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: Is that possible?
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: Other than when they're turning around around the table?
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: The bandwagons are circling.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: Uh we're talking about AM.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: Uh let's talk about USC a little bit.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: Uh USC, uh, they're also 2-0.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: Big offense.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: Uh uh there, three-headed monster, I like to call it.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: Lincoln Riley, um, Caleb Williams, and Jordan Addison are firing on all cylinders, hanging big points.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: Everybody, no one's watching USC Stanford, but if you want to see points, you should because they're just they're hanging them in bunches.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: Um, I think they I I I you might be looking at two guys going to New York, both Addison the Bolitnikoff winner and Caleb Williams, who was a Heisman finalist or Canada anyway, already.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: Um their offense is really, really good, which should surprise nobody, right?
- 33:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:38SPEAKER_03: I mean, I don't think anybody is surprised by that.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: Um, I think the big thing here is it's still so early in the season, and they've beat up on a couple really bad teams.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: I mean, Rice, again, terrible, terrible program.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: Um, and for USC, you should hang 66 on Rice.
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, so you know, Stanford gave them a bit of a challenge.
- 33:58SPEAKER_03: We saw a little bit more from them, uh, but we're not really gonna find out much about USC until week four against Oregon State.
- 34:05SPEAKER_03: And then maybe not even then, maybe not even until week six or seven when they play like Utah.
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, their schedule is such a freaking joke that they're gonna coast.
- 34:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, you're right, maybe those guys end up in um New York by default because they're not playing anybody.
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: They're gonna put up freaking video game numbers.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, are they playing Washington State this year?
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: USC playing Washington October 8th, that could be a good game.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: Washington State knocked off Wisconsin this past week.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: Uh there's Yeah, maybe.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: Washington State never plays much defense, though.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, maybe that's a that's a one of those high-scor-and-things.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Well, that's that's the that that's the rub on Stan, that's the rud rub on USC.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: Is those Stanford guys were uh getting really open.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: Tanner McKee wasn't their Stanford quarterback, wasn't necessarily hitting them because he's Tanner McKee and not a great quarterback, but um USC defense is suspect in a big way against bad competition, too.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: So that's gonna be a good one.
- 34:57SPEAKER_03: I agree with you, but this is so funny how the these our perspective shifts once the season starts, because when before the season started, we talked about USC and we looked at their schedule and we said obviously their schedule is easy, but they've got a tough one against Notre Dame, they've got a tough one at Utah.
- 35:15SPEAKER_03: Well, Utah drops one at an unranked Florida team.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: Notre Dame looks in complete disarray.
- 35:21SPEAKER_03: All of a sudden, who on their schedule is worth anything?
- 35:26SPEAKER_03: I mean you tell me.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: No, I mean, I you're you're you're not saying anything I don't want to hear.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: I just want to get I just want to build some, I just want to get some hype on the USC train.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: I think the USC being USC being relevant, being good, is good for college football.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: And what they're doing is very entertaining and they're gonna score a lot of points.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: And I at this point, I I think it's one of my preseason uh bowl predictions.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: I think they're probably the whole you think you said Utah.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: Um if they can get a little bit better on defense, and I think they will, I don't know if Utah has the dudes to keep up with uh USC's offense.
- 36:01SPEAKER_03: So but we'll No, not from what we've seen, especially when you compare the styles.
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: And you know, college football is such a style and matchup-oriented game.
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: You know, you've got a high-flying USC um offense versus a ground game of Utah that really has to keep moving the chains.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're they're not gonna hit you for a lot of huge splash plays where USC can do that up and down the field.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 36:24SPEAKER_01: Uh let's keep it rolling.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: Uh, Georgia is in fact number one team in the country, and they are alone.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: I think Bamba's vulnerable.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: I think Ohio State has chinks in the armor.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: Uh Clemson's offense is still not what it is.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: I think Georgia this week cemented itself as the number one team in the country.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: They A Bama did not lose, and Georgia passed him to the AP pool.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: I think they were right.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: I think that was the right call.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: I is is there I I there's there's no team that I have there's that has fewer things to figure out than Georgia.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, right now we're we can only base our judgments on a couple things, the eye test and sort of what our perception was on some of these matchups.
- 37:07SPEAKER_03: So, you know, we can look at that week one Georgia-Oregon game and say Georgia's really that good.
- 37:13SPEAKER_03: Um, but we don't know how good Oregon really is.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: Uh and so you know, we've only had a small sample size for some of these schools.
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: And so, yeah, Georgia looks apart right now, uh, especially compared to 82 to 3 in the first two games.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: They're they've given they've given a field goal all year.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: It's pretty good.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: Pretty good.
- 37:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they they look they look really good.
- 37:34SPEAKER_03: But again, you know, they haven't really been tested.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: We don't know anything about Oregon.
- 37:38SPEAKER_03: Oregon uh their wheels may come off early as well.
- 37:42SPEAKER_03: So um, you know, I'm I'm just reserving a little bit of judgment.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: Uh I hear you.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: I hear you.
- 37:47SPEAKER_03: I certainly I certainly think that that they are number one and should be number one, especially being defending national champs.
- 37:52SPEAKER_03: Um, but there are other teams that have been tested a little bit more, especially when you look at a team like Arkansas right now.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: At this moment, they are double-digit favorites in every single game uh the rest of the season, until, of course, Atlanta, where they're probably gonna play Alabama.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: But we'll obviously we'll see when we get there.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I'm it's you know, I think the Tennessee game is gonna be tough.
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty sure they have Arkansas as well.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: Kentucky, which we're gonna talk about here in a second, is good is good as well.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: But based on what I've seen in two weeks, I I think Georgia has put themselves in the everyone's looking up at us category, and I think they've I think they deserved it, if only because they've been, let's face it, pretty much perfect, and all the other teams that are supposed to be up there with them have all shown real flaws.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: So we'll see how it goes.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: It's weak too.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: It's weak too.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: The other thing that I don't want to completely discount is that this year, um, and last year really, too.
- 38:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, we talk about parody in college football, and there's been a lot of parody uh for the most part, except for generally that top kind of upper echelon.
- 38:53SPEAKER_03: This year has already shown us that anybody can lose to anybody.
- 38:57SPEAKER_03: Uh, so you can't really take for granted that you're just gonna walk through your some of those cupcake games.
- 39:03SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'm sure we'll see a couple games pop up this weekend that aren't on anybody's radar that um have people scratching their heads on on Sunday or Monday.
- 39:11SPEAKER_01: Does Georgia have any games against Sun Belt teams?
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: Because if so, watch it out.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: Oh man, you can know better.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: They know better.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: They know better.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: That's gonna not schedule the uh the stun belt.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: Uh good for them.
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: Uh cool.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: Uh let's talk about uh Kentucky.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Big game.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, man, I was pumping the Anthony Richardson hype train seven days ago.
- 39:32SPEAKER_03: Everybody was.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: He was like a husband, he was a husband hopefully.
- 39:37SPEAKER_01: Not so much.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: Was that so?
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm sure you've obviously being these being two SEC East foes you know very well as Tennessee fan.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: Was that more?
- 39:47SPEAKER_01: I think that both are true.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: I think both are true.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: Was that more Kentucky is a really good, solid, well-coached team, or is Florida not as good as we thought?
- 39:59SPEAKER_03: So two, I think it's I I'm gonna add another layer to this because I think you hate my question.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: Sorry, go ahead.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: I think um this is a series of sort of knee-jerk reactions in that um first off, Utah was probably overvalued by most most people, including myself.
- 40:19SPEAKER_03: I was I was on the Utah bandwagon.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: Um they lose to Florida, Florida all of a sudden gets pumped from unranked to top 10.
- 40:28SPEAKER_03: Or no, sorry, 12th or something, which is crazy, crazy, crazy.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: Then they lose to Florida, which is or Kentucky, which is you know, that was an evenly matched game.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: Keep in mind that Vegas had both of these spreads in the single digits, so these wild swings are completely just un unwarranted.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: Um I would say Florida is pretty thin across the board, and I said it before.
- 40:51SPEAKER_03: Um they have Anthony Richardson, and they will go as Anthony Richardson goes.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: Kentucky is a stronger team across the board, they're they're better in the trenches, um and they're yeah, they're the better team, I think.
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: Um I thought I thought the game being in the swamp and and after the performance Anthony Richardson put up, that Florida would win that game.
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: Um, if he had played well, you know, they probably would have.
- 41:15SPEAKER_03: It was still a super tight game.
- 41:16SPEAKER_03: It could have gone either way.
- 41:18SPEAKER_03: Um and Will Levis, he put up, you know, we talked, you talked about it, how both of these quarterbacks were going to put on a show.
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: Um Levison was bad.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: Levis was fine.
- 41:29SPEAKER_03: He didn't he didn't put up he he performed in key moments.
- 41:33SPEAKER_03: He didn't have fantastic numbers.
- 41:34SPEAKER_03: His ball, that 55-yard touchdown, was a thing of beauty.
- 41:37SPEAKER_03: That that was okay.
- 41:38SPEAKER_03: Like I said, he performed in key moments.
- 41:40SPEAKER_03: He didn't put up great numbers.
- 41:42SPEAKER_03: He he made it count when it mattered, and Kentucky overall played a better game.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: Their defense played lights out, they're they're good in the trenches and they're well coached.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: I know it was um, I think what was the score at halftime?
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: Score was uh I know Florida was ahead uh 16-13 at the half, but Kentucky didn't like it can give a point in the whole second half.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: I kind of felt like Mark Stoops was just kind of tightening.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: I also other play that was was incredible, that interception return, that defensive line.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that one-handed, yeah, in the flat.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: Anthony Richardson tries to throw this like five-yard in the flat route to uh like a bubble screen receiver and this defensive end who's let's face it not known for their hands, swats the ball, one hands it, catches it, returns it for a touchdown, was a thing of beauty.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: That was the the the the athleticism, uh the coordination to do that in such tight quarters.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: That was a wildly impressive play.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: Um, Kentucky was just like I just thought they were bigger and stronger than Florida.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: I just thought they were kind of pushed him around.
- 42:37SPEAKER_03: And they just no, I think Kentucky is a very, very good team.
- 42:40SPEAKER_03: I do not think they are a top 10 team.
- 42:43SPEAKER_03: I think their schedule plays out to where they could finish in the top 10.
- 42:50SPEAKER_03: I don't think the eye test for me, and knowing their program and and and knowing them like I do, I would put them in the 10 to 15 range.
- 42:59SPEAKER_03: Um you know, but maybe I'm disrespecting Kentucky.
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: We'll find out.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: It's still early.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: The race for second for second place in the SCE C East is gonna be a doozy.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: All of a sudden, the Kentucky uh Tennessee game is a monster.
- 43:13SPEAKER_01: Um, especially if things go, I know you guys are looking forward to Florida here in two weeks, but um I've to me it looks like like the the pecking order seems like Georgia one, Kentucky, uh Tennessee two, Florida three, and then whoever else is back there, Vanderbilt, Missouri, South Carolina, five.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, none of those.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:33SPEAKER_03: So Missouri got blown out by Kansas State, Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt.
- 43:37SPEAKER_03: Uh South Carolina sells a lot of holes.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: Um, that's one of the reasons I was really sort of hoping Florida would win that game is because I wanted, I mean, the way the AP kind of propped Florida up at number 12.
- 43:49SPEAKER_03: I mean, we could have had a top 10 Florida uh team rolling into Knoxville in two weeks.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: And again, I I wouldn't, I don't think they're they should be ranked that high because again, I think they're they will go as Anthony Richardson goes, for better or worse.
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: Um I think they're a good team, but yeah, they they've definitely been over overhyped, over-evaluated, over uh inflated.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: I think I disagree, man.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: I think I'm I think I'm kind of riding Kentucky.
- 44:13SPEAKER_01: Although I was riding Florida last week.
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: So don't worry about it.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, I said Florida.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, Florida.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: You're right about Florida.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: I think Kentucky is really, really good.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: I think they're good.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: I think I also think Stoops, Mark Stoops, the coach in Kentucky, is one of the hell of a coach, one of the best coaches in the country.
- 44:26SPEAKER_01: I bet you I think he's a great coach.
- 44:27SPEAKER_03: I really hope Nebraska pulls pulls him from Kentucky.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: That would be fine.
- 44:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: So the two things I saw on Twitter about about Nebraska coach, Matt Campbell, the uh Iowa State uh coach, who's Matt Campbell has done a wonderful Wonders at Iowa State more or less forever.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: Um, and the other one uh that I just saw, which is a spicy one, Urban Meyer, which would be really fun.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: Oh, jeez.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: I would love to see Urban Meyer.
- 44:51SPEAKER_01: Although I can't imagine after spending so much time in SoCal and Gainesville and Jacksonville, that he would love corn uh cornfield country, but I don't know, man.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: Maybe he's maybe ready to get back or rehab his image.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: Uh I would tune in for that.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: Uh other names of other names I saw were were would be good guess.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: Tom Herman, uh uh the former Texas coach, and then uh other one I saw on my podcast, uh Dave Aranda, the Baylor coach, who I think is also gonna be a hot name when you return.
- 45:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Randon, there's no reason for Aranda to leave Baylor.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: He's he's he's trying to rebuild someone's someone's gonna pay him a little somebody's gonna get desperate, and some it's maybe it's Nebraska boosters, and they're gonna look around, they're gonna say who are the three or four or five hot coaches that are at lesser programs than us, Nebraska, that we could approach.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: And I think that's a good coach.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, maybe I could, yeah, it's true.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: Uh Mark Stoops, um, I think is one of those guys.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: I think Dave Arena is one of those guys.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: I think Tom Herman's looking to get back.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm very interested in who's gonna be the Nebraska job.
- 45:50SPEAKER_01: But the whole point of this conversation was saying that Mark Stoops is a hell of a coach and he's done a hell of a job at Kentucky.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: Kentucky has been not a football, they're a basketball school.
- 45:57SPEAKER_01: It had been for a long time, not a football school, and they have a he just passed Bear Bryant's record for win total wins at Kentucky.
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: The number was only 60.
- 46:07SPEAKER_03: It was 60, and it was set by Bear Bryant before he went to Alabama.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: That's how long it's been that they've had anybody who's been successful for even a handful of years.
- 46:16SPEAKER_03: 60 wins.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: That's all it got.
- 46:18SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: That's good context.
- 46:20SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 46:20SPEAKER_01: Well, kudos to Mark Stoops, you've 100% earned it.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: So good for them.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: Uh I think I'm done with my reactions week two.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: Want to talk week three?
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: Let's look, let's look forward.
- 46:31SPEAKER_03: Let's done with the past.
- 46:32SPEAKER_03: A lot of good takes, though.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: You know, it's funny.
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: I I said that I think I said last week before, I was like, it's not gonna be that great a week.
- 46:39SPEAKER_01: Not that many good games.
- 46:40SPEAKER_01: And obviously, it's been lights out through the it has been lightning in a bottle for two weeks.
- 46:45SPEAKER_01: I'm expecting this to be a down week of college football.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: I gotta hope I'm wrong, and I very well might be.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: So that's so that's the beauty of college football.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: I know, man.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: Uh but No, you don't know.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: You don't know.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: Games, I could be wrong.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: Let's start with uh Miami uh going to they're playing at AM, I believe, and that is at uh nine o'clock p.m.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: This is the um on the ropes, um, you know, get up, get up off of the mat, you know, show some dignity game.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: Uh spread is um Miami plus five and a half.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: So even though um Texas AM has their has their major woes on offense and maybe defensive line, we'll see.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: Um uh they're getting a lot of love here.
- 47:27SPEAKER_01: Um ZM Zach Kylefield, yeah.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: I'm I I think this is I think it's kick kick a man while he's down game.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: I'm expecting Miami to come in.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: Uh Tyler Van Dyke is gonna light him up.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: That's what's that's what I think I'm seeing.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: I don't think Miami has, I don't think Texas AM has the weapons.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: I don't think uh their receivers are that good.
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: I don't think and I think Haynes King and Max Johnson, former LSU quarterback, they didn't talk about the AM quarterbacks.
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: And unless they pull the uh they burn their red shirt, that five-star freshman, and get him out there, who's attacking this Miami defense?
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: Who's better than AM?
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: Bayer than App State, obviously.
- 48:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so I kind of went back and forth on this one because on one hand, um, there's a reason the spread's only you know five and a half.
- 48:08SPEAKER_03: Um AM is the first one.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: Why are they the favor of this game?
- 48:11SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 48:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, because they have the talent, and everyone looks at that Appalachian State game and says that is not the norm, right?
- 48:19SPEAKER_03: And so you have to think this week, um Jimbo Fisher has everybody's attention and that they can put something together and dial, you know, really get everybody dialed in.
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: The problem is not with the talent, though, it's with the coaching.
- 48:34SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, what what are they gonna do differently against you know a way more capable Miami team than they did against Appalachian State?
- 48:44SPEAKER_03: So I mean, I I really did have a hard time with this one, but I don't think that AM has the offense.
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: And that's where I think, you know, again, you're gonna hear me say it over and over and over.
- 48:55SPEAKER_03: It's gonna quarterback play, quarterback play, quarterback play, and Miami's got it in spades, and AM does not.
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: So obviously Miami's been on uh Miami has rode some momentum.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: Their last uh uh four games going back to last year, Virginia Tech, not good, Duke, not good, Bethun, Bethune, Cookman, and uh Southern Southern Mississippi, and they've handled won all those games pretty convincingly.
- 49:21SPEAKER_01: Maybe there's fools, maybe we're you know Miami hit my point is Miami has yet to be tested.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: Um there's something to be said for that, and that maybe that's what um Vegas is seeing.
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, if I were to guess this thread, I would say close.
- 49:35SPEAKER_01: I would I've and before knowing what I know now, I would assume it would have been like a pick'em, one point, two points, either one way or the other.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: But um Vegas still loves AM a lot, so obviously there's something there, but um I this is my upset pick of upset pick of the week if they're if we were if we did those.
- 49:51SPEAKER_01: I think Miami's gonna come in and get right again.
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: I had a tough one with tough time with this one because I do think there's gonna be a lot of I don't know, not a revenge factor, but just a bounce back factor.
- 50:03SPEAKER_03: I mean, these kids at AM walked around all week after basically the biggest loss, I mean, on campus, just getting dogged by everybody.
- 50:11SPEAKER_03: I mean, this game has their focus.
- 50:14SPEAKER_03: It's not a talent thing.
- 50:15SPEAKER_03: I just don't know if they have schematically what it takes to line up and and and play.
- 50:21SPEAKER_03: Um, to put it in a little perspective, talking about Jimbo Fisher, um, his record through 50 games is almost the exact same as Kevin Sumlin, who was fired, obviously.
- 50:34SPEAKER_03: Um so and he and he's done it, you know, with with a whole lot more talent than uh he ever had.
- 50:41SPEAKER_03: So I've got to go Miami, but it's a little reluctant.
- 50:44SPEAKER_03: Anything could happen in this one.
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: This one, this one should be really interesting.
- 50:48SPEAKER_01: You know, one thing I will say that's Miami game, it's not it's kind of a lose-lose for them because if they lose, then they lose.
- 50:53SPEAKER_01: That's not that's not that's not sweet.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: But if they win, it's like, well, Texas AM is one and two and they lost to App State, they're no good.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: So Miami is like it's kind of a crummy spot because if you're Miami, you kind of wanted them to win against App State.
- 51:05SPEAKER_01: So that way they're maybe they're overconfident, they're two and oh, and you beat a top 10 team, even though they're obviously not a top 10 team.
- 51:11SPEAKER_03: And you know that right now they've got a AM's got a chip on their shoulder.
- 51:14SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're they're gonna get their they're gonna get their best shot.
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: You're yeah, you're gonna you're my AM is gonna throw everything they have at Miami.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: So Miami's kind of in a lose-lose spot here, but ultimately I don't think it matters.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm I I love Miami here, but let's let's move on.
- 51:27SPEAKER_03: Well, you love Miami this year anyway.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: I still Tyle Van Dyke's gonna win the Heisman, maybe.
- 51:33SPEAKER_01: Um coming on next, BYU Couggs, BYU Cougars, number 12.
- 51:37SPEAKER_01: Uh uh it's the 3 30 uh Eastern Time, playing the Oregon Ducks.
- 51:42SPEAKER_01: Uh this game is in Outson Stadium uh in Eugene.
- 51:46SPEAKER_01: Uh the spread is Oregon time recording minus three and a half.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: Um we'll see.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: This this is the game, this is the game we're gonna find out about Oregon.
- 51:59SPEAKER_01: Um I I I legitimately think BYU, I think I love what Jaron Hall is doing.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: I think he's a great quarterback.
- 52:04SPEAKER_01: I think he's awesome.
- 52:05SPEAKER_01: I like I like watching him play a lot, and he's and he has he's done well uh so far this year.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: Um I have I do not like Bo Nicks.
- 52:14SPEAKER_01: I do not feel good about Bo Nicks as a quarterback.
- 52:16SPEAKER_03: The Bo Nicks experiment has failed a couple a couple times.
- 52:19SPEAKER_01: It has failed a couple times.
- 52:20SPEAKER_01: All and but the thing that the what Oregon's got going for them the one is they have they have pockets of big talent.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: Outson stadium is a hell of a place to play.
- 52:28SPEAKER_03: It is, it is a cool stadium, and they get loud AF.
- 52:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Outson is the home of the Oregon Ducks.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: Um, they don't lose many games there at all.
- 52:35SPEAKER_03: Um, so I you know, I nobody loses many home games in the Pac-12.
- 52:42SPEAKER_01: True, but outson specifically for Oregon, they are.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's particularly tough.
- 52:46SPEAKER_01: I know, I know.
- 52:47SPEAKER_03: Um I'm plus they've got a duck that rides a motorcycle.
- 52:51SPEAKER_01: You can't beat that.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: Um I'm taking BYU because I'm betting against Bonex.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: That's all this really is.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: I'm fading Bonex.
- 52:57SPEAKER_01: I recognize that Oregon probably pound for pound on the talent spot.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: They probably have a more talented team, um, but I just can't put um find myself getting behind um a Bonex squad full stop.
- 53:08SPEAKER_03: Well, I was a little bit of a BYU believer before the Baylor game.
- 53:12SPEAKER_03: Now I am fully Coug.
- 53:15SPEAKER_03: I'm fully on the Coug uh bandwagon.
- 53:19SPEAKER_03: So I think BYU is gonna win.
- 53:21SPEAKER_03: I think BYU sets itself up for a fantastic year.
- 53:24SPEAKER_03: We talked about it.
- 53:25SPEAKER_03: They could be a top 10 team, you know, all year long, push for the playoff potentially.
- 53:31SPEAKER_03: And um, this is just another gonna be another notch on their belt.
- 53:33SPEAKER_03: I think they win with defense.
- 53:35SPEAKER_03: They've got a better defense than than Oregon.
- 53:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, they showed that against Baylor, and they're more physical.
- 53:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, Oregon does not respond well to teams that can line up and body them the way that that that BYU can, and I think they will.
- 53:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think they will.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: Now to be close, to be to be fair to Oregon, BYU is not Georgia, and there are very few teams that will put up fights to Georgia this year.
- 53:59SPEAKER_01: Um, but uh, they gotta do better than what they did.
- 54:02SPEAKER_01: You know, they even even on their end, they've they've got to they've got a they've got to pull it together, and they do have some weapons some places.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: Um so but I wonder, I also wonder like if this game, if this game goes off the rails, is it time for the five star?
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: Is it is this the the the highest rated recruit in Oregon history?
- 54:18SPEAKER_01: Is it Ty Thompson?
- 54:18SPEAKER_01: I think is his name.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: Is that is it time for him to play?
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: I think I think so.
- 54:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think it's gotta be.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, unless you hoping for with Bo Nicks at this point, if he loses this game and you're one and two, playoff is off the table, pac-12 could very well be, although both of his games are not in Pac-12 games.
- 54:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if you don't get right now, the Pac-12, your chance of Pac-12 North are gonna be out the window.
- 54:39SPEAKER_01: So I I mean, unless he's really not ready, if Bo Nix loses this one, I'm I'm looking to see Ty Thompson come out there and see what he can do.
- 54:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think um you could see that it depends on how they lose the game for me.
- 54:53SPEAKER_03: You know, it depends on how it plays out.
- 54:55SPEAKER_03: You know, Bo Nix still flashes a lot, and I think it's tough for he does flash.
- 55:01SPEAKER_03: It's tough for a coach to go against that when you've got a veteran guy.
- 55:05SPEAKER_03: You know, he probably does all the right things in practice.
- 55:07SPEAKER_03: He he prepares, you know, the right way.
- 55:09SPEAKER_03: He's probably a good leader in the locker room.
- 55:11SPEAKER_03: He's obviously shown a ton of moxie.
- 55:13SPEAKER_03: He's a super tough kid, and he does some really incredible things on the field at times.
- 55:18SPEAKER_03: Um, it's just tough to buck that.
- 55:22SPEAKER_03: You know, it's tough to go against that when um sometimes, you know, you gotta let that that that ship sail.
- 55:30SPEAKER_03: So we'll see.
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: Uh we're both taking BYU.
- 55:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, I'm taking BYU.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: Let's move on.
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: Good stuff.
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: All right, we got uh Michigan State Spartans number 11, uh playing at 7:30 Eastern Time, the UW Washington Huskies in Husky Stadium up in the Pacific Northwest.
- 55:48SPEAKER_01: Uh Michigan State uh ranked number 11.
- 55:51SPEAKER_01: They are three and a half point dogs, and they are a abysmal football team when they play out west, even though they're probably the better team here.
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: Uh Peyton Thorne versus Michael Pennox Jr., the Indiana transfer.
- 56:02SPEAKER_01: What do you think?
- 56:05SPEAKER_03: This is tough for me because I like Sparty.
- 56:08SPEAKER_03: We talked about it early, early, early on in the pod this year.
- 56:12SPEAKER_03: But I also like I also like dub.
- 56:14SPEAKER_03: I also like I also like the Huskies.
- 56:16SPEAKER_03: Um, they were kind of my sleeper uh in the conference.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, you you were were poo-pooing on on Michigan State early on, which only made me dig my heels in even more.
- 56:26SPEAKER_03: So I hate to pick a loser in this one.
- 56:29SPEAKER_03: I think it's Sparty.
- 56:30SPEAKER_03: I think they've got more talent.
- 56:31SPEAKER_03: I love Mel Tucker.
- 56:33SPEAKER_03: Um I think the Huskies lose this one.
- 56:35SPEAKER_03: I think it's a close tough game.
- 56:37SPEAKER_03: And and and UW still does some some good things this year.
- 56:40SPEAKER_03: I don't think they're quite ready.
- 56:42SPEAKER_03: Um, and and Sparty is is the better program overall right now.
- 56:46SPEAKER_03: They've got more talent, they've got just they're just really well coached, they're solid across the board.
- 56:51SPEAKER_03: I'll take Sparty.
- 56:52SPEAKER_01: Michigan State has gotten better in the secondary, which has certainly helped.
- 56:55SPEAKER_01: That was their major Achilles heel.
- 56:56SPEAKER_01: If you guys remember that Ohio State game last year, I think Ohio State just scored another touchdown.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: Um so they they have made some some marked improvement.
- 57:03SPEAKER_01: Uh UW has got Michael Panix Jr., the former Indiana quarterback who is pretty darn good there.
- 57:08SPEAKER_01: Um uh the real story for me is like for me in this game is we don't have a clue about either of these teams.
- 57:15SPEAKER_01: Michigan State so far this year, um, Western Michigan 35-13, and Akron 52 to nothing.
- 57:21SPEAKER_01: Um, UW, Kent State, 45 to 20, Portland State, I think that is, 52 to 6.
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: Who knows?
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: Um, I yeah, who knows?
- 57:29SPEAKER_01: I this is one of those we're gonna find out, much like the game we're gonna talk about here next, uh, Penn State Auburn, all four of those teams are 2-0.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: All four of those teams are showing some signs and showing some weaknesses.
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: We're gonna find out.
- 57:44SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: I'm taking UW because Sparty hates playing the Pac-12 out west on the road and they lose these games all the time.
- 57:52SPEAKER_01: Um, I think Michael Pennings Jr.
- 57:54SPEAKER_01: is an exciting quarterback.
- 57:55SPEAKER_01: I think he can challenge their secondary, and maybe this, and maybe they have not improved the way they think they have.
- 58:00SPEAKER_01: So I'm taking U Dub.
- 58:01SPEAKER_01: You're taking uh Michigan State.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: One of us is gonna be Duncan on the other person.
- 58:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I am taking Michigan State.
- 58:06SPEAKER_03: I'm actually gonna really enjoy being right over you on this one because you've been so down on Mel Tucker and the Spartans that uh I and I think you're just flat out wrong.
- 58:17SPEAKER_01: Okay, we will find out.
- 58:18SPEAKER_01: Uh keep it rolling.
- 58:20SPEAKER_01: Uh Penn State Auburn.
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: Uh number 22 ranked Penn State 2-0.
- 58:24SPEAKER_01: Uh 3 30 Eastern Time, uh, 2-0 Auburn.
- 58:27SPEAKER_01: This one is at Jordan Hare.
- 58:28SPEAKER_01: Uh last year was at Penn State.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: Last year was a these this is a this is the second game of a home and home for them.
- 58:34SPEAKER_01: Last year was a barn burner.
- 58:36SPEAKER_01: Awesome, awesome game.
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: Um Penn State uh obviously had a uh hell of a showing coming out and beating Purdue 35-31.
- 58:44SPEAKER_01: I'm not uh open it was that week one Thursday night game.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: Awesome game.
- 58:48SPEAKER_01: Uh beat the breaks off of Ohio last week, 46-10.
- 58:51SPEAKER_01: Auburn on the other side, Mercer and San Jose State.
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: I you not a lot there, not a lot there to get excited about.
- 58:59SPEAKER_01: Um, I still think Brian Harson's gonna get fired this year.
- 59:01SPEAKER_01: I don't I I they look bad against San Jose State, frankly.
- 59:05SPEAKER_01: Um I and Penn State's got a quarterback problem.
- 59:08SPEAKER_01: Um, this is one of those games for me where Auburn is left for dead and they come out and they play with their hair on fire, and they're not.
- 59:16SPEAKER_01: They did this so many times under Gus Lozanne.
- 59:20SPEAKER_01: So many times were like Auburn's not good, and then they came out and just played amazing football.
- 59:24SPEAKER_03: Um, this could be you forget, everyone forgets that regardless of, I mean, it seems like it must be the administration because it does seem like there's just constant just turmoil and just controversy over there.
- 59:36SPEAKER_03: But you look at their roster year in and year out, they've got like a top 10, top 15 roster based on talent alone.
- 59:44SPEAKER_03: Uh it they they just do.
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, well, they've got the they've got an outstanding running running back in tank bisby.
- 59:50SPEAKER_01: So you know they're gonna punish, you know they're gonna punish the bull.
- 59:52SPEAKER_01: But that's all they've got.
- 59:53SPEAKER_01: That's kind of all they got, yeah, at the at the moment.
- 59:56SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't feel I mean they I is TJ Finley still their starter.
- 59:59SPEAKER_01: I cannot imagine feeling super good about that.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_01: Although on the other side, I don't love Sean Clifford either.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_01: And I and and he I think he's gonna I still think he's gonna lose his job eventually to Drew Alair.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_01: Alar?
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_01: Alaire Alar?
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: Alar?
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: They're back up in Penn State.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_01: So these are two teams that have question marks, transitions at quarterback.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_01: Um, I think this one's gonna be fun as hell because the last one was, and these are two teams that have uh, I mean, Jordan Hare is a hell is a tough place to play.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_01: I've watched great LSU teams lose to bad Auburn teams at stadium.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_03: Crazy things happen in Jordan Hare, and it's a it's a really hard place to play.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh the spread is three points, which I think is probably about right for given where these two teams are.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_01: Um I'm gonna take Penn State.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_01: Uh I just think I think they're I think James Franklin um has them in a better spot um and they are showing some things, they're doing some well.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: And mainly this is kind of like I was fading Bo Nicks, the other former Auburn quarterback.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_01: I am fading TJ Finley.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_01: TJ Finley was a former LSU quarterback, he is not very good at quarterback at football.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_01: So I'm fading him uh specifically.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna take the Lions.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for me, um, this is Tank Bigsby versus Penn State.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_03: And um and and really Auburn, you know, it's it's Jordan Hare.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_03: So, you know, how does Penn State deal with that environment?
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_03: Can they stop the run?
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_03: And does their offensive line hold up?
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_03: Uh, I think their offensive line holds up enough.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_03: It's not good, it's not proven.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_03: Um, but they don't have they're not gonna have to make a ton of plays on offense to outscore Auburn.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_03: So I like Penn State too.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_03: I think three points is is it's a tight spread.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_03: I think it's gonna be a close game.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, I like Auburn or Penn State, sorry.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_03: And and unless something crazy happens like things typically do in Jordan Hare.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_03: But yeah, Penn State's the better team.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_03: They're they're they've got more continuity across the board, they've got more um more talent on on offense right now.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_03: I just think they win.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna take I'm gonna take them as well.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: Uh it is 330 on CBS, so Jordan Hare is gonna be keyed up.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_01: So it's gonna be it is going to be a legitimate Hornets Nest because that place is actually a Hornets Nest.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: That one is yeah, that is a Hornets.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_01: We use that.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_01: That one is actually a Hornets Nest.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_01: I've I've been to a game there.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_01: That's wild.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: All right, let's keep it rolling.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_01: Uh let's talk about uh so those are the four games that we kind of main headline games we think we are probably be the most fun to watch.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_01: That Mike and I are probably gonna pay the most attention to.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_01: Uh let's talk about the four homers uh really quick.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_01: Let's work through those.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_01: Um, why don't you start uh do Tennessee Pitt and then Tennessee Akron?
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, coming off of um an overtime thriller, uh Tennessee uh beats Pitt.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_03: And um there's a lot of good and bad to take away from that game.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_03: Obviously, the good is uh Tennessee won, but did not play their best game by any stretch of the imagination.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_03: Um silver lining is that Tennessee showed a lot of flashes on defense, recorded 26 quarterback pressures, which is the most that they they've um logged in like 10 years.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_03: They had like four or five sacks, they knocked out um both quarterbacks on separate occasions.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_03: They had a strip sack.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_03: Um, defensive pressure looked solid uh across the the front seven.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_03: Um secondary looked soft, secondary did not look good.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, they gave up a one big, really big pass play and one huge uh run play for like 75 yards.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_03: Other than that, they stopped the run pretty well.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, Tennessee won, didn't play their best game.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_03: That is is my takeaway.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_03: Um Hendon Hooker didn't play well early on, redeemed himself late.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_03: Even our star receiver, uh Cedric Tillman had several drops, still went for like 160 plus yards and a touchdown.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_03: Um, Hendon Hooker could have had 400 yards passing that game if they were a little bit crisper.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_03: So I think it's kind of just what what they needed uh with a get-right game against Akron, and then uh the Gators coming in two weeks uh at home.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_03: I think uh there's a lot for the coaching staff to look at and say, you know, this is this game could have been a blowout.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_03: You know, there were a lot of mistakes, a lot of self-inflicted wounds, especially late uh in the second half.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_03: Uh we had a punt blocked, we had uh a fumble, we had a um a muffed uh uh yeah, muffed punt um return.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_03: It was just a lot of stuff that you don't expect to see that should be pretty easily fixed.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, uh I'm I'm happy with it.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_03: Um, but you know, it was like pulling teeth watching that game.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_01: I think you're being hard in your vols, man.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_01: I think getting a ranked road win is a huge is is huge, especially for a team like Tennessee, which is like, you know, they've flirted with this five, six, seven, eight win teams, and they're trying to make the next step forward.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_01: And like if I'm a Tennessee fan, I'm like they won that game.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_01: Um, I think Hooker to Tillman is a real thing.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think that's an I think that's gonna be a good connection um all season for the Vols.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_01: Um I'm I'm a little I mean I understand obviously you want to see your team play win convincingly when you can.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_01: Pitt's good, and I think Tennessee is really good.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_03: Um, so I know, and I think I was uh um probably selling Pitt a little bit short.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_03: I think their defensive front seven is as good as advertised.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, they'll probably go on and win nine, 10 games this year, looking at their schedule, looking at the ACC and where they're at.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, I think my what I'm trying to say, maybe it sounds like I'm being harder than I am.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_03: What I'm trying to say is we we did not play our best game.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_03: If we if we played like we could have, especially on offense, we would have won by you know 14, 17 plus.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_03: Um, we got the win, and there's so many things to take away um from that that we can improve on.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_03: The key thing is that the defense showed out much better than they have in the past.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_01: Tennessee ceiling is rising.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_01: There's no doubt about it.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_01: So kudos to you on the win on that.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_01: Uh Akron zips one and one, Tennessee Valls, uh 7 o'clock PM on the SEC Plus Network.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_01: Man, you really have to you you really have to watch this game.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_01: You gotta find it.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_01: You gotta find it.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_01: Uh Tennessee minus 48.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_01: Anything you want to say about it?
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_03: No, not really.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_03: I think um one of the things that I that I that I didn't like from last week's game is um we're talking a lot about playing playing more of our to our depth.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_03: And we saw that on the defensive line.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_03: We rotated a lot of guys.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_03: Um, but when push came to shove, uh only three wide receivers caught balls last week, and we have a super talented wide receiver room.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_03: We have a lot of depth that needs to be fleshed out so and and and figured out.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_03: And so we need to see who we can trust going into that Florida week.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_03: And I'd just like to see them get some more time.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_03: And they will this week, but whether that carries over into Florida, that remains to be seen.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_03: So we'll see.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_01: Go zips.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_01: I'm excited.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_01: All right, good stuff.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_03: Zip them up and zip it out.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_01: That's that's what I always say.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_01: All right, moving on.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_01: Uh we got LSU against Mississippi State.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_01: Before that, we'll talk real quick about LSU Southern.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_01: Uh LSU plays Southern, which is the school, another school actually in Baton Bruce.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_01: LSU won the school.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_01: LSU won the school 65 to 17.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_01: Southern won the halftime show, which was incredible.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_01: Worth a YouTube watch if you want to check that out.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_01: Uh get right game for LSU.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_01: We made a we made a lot of spikes uh in the Florida State game, and kind of we kind of kind of sealed that up.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_01: We reshuffled the offensive line.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_01: Um, it was exactly what you'd want out of playing an inferior opponent.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_01: Uh, we won by 50.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_01: So I don't know much to say about that.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_01: Uh this week we've got uh Mississippi State, who is 2-0, um, after uh Arizona and Memphis, who are two uh decent teams, I think I would argue.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_01: Uh LSU 1-1.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_01: Uh this spread opened up at um LSU minus one and a half, and it is one wherever you're looking, swung all the way to uh Mississippi State's favorite.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_01: Mississippi State is now minus two and a half.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_01: Uh this game is in Tiger Stadium.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_01: Um I am nervous.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, this is a game that I really like, I really like to get like Brian Kelly to have.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_01: Mississippi State is probably better, uh, if we're being really honest.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_01: I they have they have uh uh Will Rogers and uh they're just in a better spot than we are at the moment.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_01: Um and they've got um they're more balanced they have been than we have.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_01: Mike Leach is the coach of uh Mississippi State.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: He was a former coach at Washington State, kind of known for his air raid offense, he likes to call it.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_01: Spread five wide and throw the throw the heck out of the ball.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_01: They've been pretty balanced running the ball a bunch.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_01: Um uh and they're good.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_01: Their defense is playing stout football.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_01: Um the rub for me, what I think about LSU is I don't think we are as good as as we saw on Florida State.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_01: That was a first game, too much new, too many things.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_01: Um, we're getting our star running back back, which is gonna help, John Emory, who I think is gonna who's gonna provide a spark of the backfield.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_01: Um, we reshuffled the offensive line, so we have some better guys and better spots there.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_01: Um, so I we and our special teams will be better because my God, it can't be worse than two block punts and two.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's stuff you won't see happen again.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_01: That's stuff we won't see happening.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_01: So we're so and with and then we saw that against Southern, which is nice last week, but Southern's not an SCC West team.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_01: Mississippi State is.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_01: Um I like our chances.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_01: I still we we still don't know much about LSU.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_01: We don't know where we are yet.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_01: Um uh I like us to win because we're only we're less than a field goal dogs at home.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll take that.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_01: In Death Valley, absolutely, especially night game, you bet.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_01: Um, but I wouldn't be surprised at all Mississippi State takes us.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I just think that this is kind of a matchup um issue for LSU.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_03: Um, you've got so many new faces in the secondary.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_03: And uh Will Rogers, one of the most established quarterbacks in the SEC, um, you know, at the helm of Mike Leach's air raid offense, he's gonna create some problems.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_03: He's gonna put some pressure on the DBs, and it's gonna be um, there's gonna be a lot of communication that needs to occur.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_03: And when you have guys in the secondary that are new and maybe you're rotating around, um, I just expect some busted coverage.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_03: Um, I don't know that Jaden Daniels um for LSU can can match Will Rogers from the quarterback position.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_03: Um, if maybe LSU, you know, tries to slow the game down, rely on the run.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_03: Um, but I think Mississippi State probably puts up a few more splash plays.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_03: It's probably um it probably stays close for most of the game, but I I just think that Mississippi State's offense is going to be a bit too much for LSU to keep up with.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_01: The last time Mississippi State played LSU in Baton Rouge, it was the first game of 2020 season, the COVID year, where they played 10 seasons.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_01: LSU had just won the national championship, retired 18 players.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_01: L and what you talked about, you're talking about broken plays.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_01: LSU gave up 650 passing yards, the most pass yards in an SEC football game ever, because of what exactly what you described right there, which was uh Mississippi running five wide and doing all kinds of route trees and rubs and screens and whatnot and communication breakdowns, galore.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_01: So you better believe he's thinking he has his, he would love for that type of gameplay to work.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_01: I think we are better coached and we are more talented this year.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_01: We'll be better prepared for that.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_01: But I fully agree with you.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_01: I if I'm Mike Leach, that's exactly how I'm gonna test this LSU team, is I want to make sure I want to see their secondary play smart assignment football for 60 minutes.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_01: I just don't I don't know if we can at this point with still so many new faces, so much transition.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_03: But you know, yeah, and I I agree with you.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, LSU is well coached, and Brian Kelly knows what Mike Leach is going to try and do.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, the book is out on him, he's been doing it everywhere that he's gone.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_03: There's not like a new wrinkle.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_03: Um, I just think when it comes down to having so many new faces um in the secondary and you know, not having the pass rush that um that you want to have, you know, especially with uh one of your top players out last week, um, that's gonna hurt.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_03: And you really will see some of those breakdowns.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_03: Um, so I've got to take Mississippi State.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_01: ESPN's football power index gives LSU a 56.6% chance to win.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_01: So screw your Mississippi State prediction.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_01: The math is on my side, so I'm just gonna go ahead and feel good about that.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_01: Hopefully that was being all right.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_03: Well, let's just shut it down.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_01: We'll just shut it down.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_01: Call it a day.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_01: Why even play?
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_01: We've already figured it out.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_01: Thanks to ESPN.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_03: Somebody uh get Mike Leach on the phone.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_01: Uh let's move on.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_01: Uh let's talk about some homers real quick.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_01: Old Dominion Monarchs 101 playing the Virginia Cavaliers one-on-one, uh, two o'clock Eastern.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_01: This game is in Scott Stadium in Charlottesville.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_01: Uh, really quick, I want to talk about last week, about uh their uh tough loss at Illinois.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_01: Uh Illinois better team, stronger team, pushed them around.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_01: Um their UVA's offensive line, absolute liability.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_01: Uh Illinois got back there whenever they wanted, which I'm not surprised.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_01: They had a hell of a time running the ball, which was also kind of what I expected.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_01: What I did not expect, I was really disappointed was I didn't see any kind of adjustment from Tony Elliott from UVA.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_01: Uh their receivers are awesome.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_01: Brandon Armstrong is awesome, and he didn't do anything.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_01: 13 for 22 for 180 yards, two touch, two interceptions.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_01: Uh rushing was pitiful as well.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_01: Uh Tommy DeVito in Illinois just stuck it to us, and that's that's that's that's what happened.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_01: Uh, it didn't help that Ill UVA is gonna have the hiccups all of a sudden.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_01: This beer.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_01: What the what is that all about?
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_01: Excuse me.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_01: It doesn't help when you uh muff a punt and give up a special teams touchdown, but it didn't matter.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_01: Uh UVA couldn't do it, couldn't do anything against Illinois.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Illinois, um, the game went sort of like I thought it would.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_03: Um I thought Illinois would be able to pound the ball.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_03: I was, like you said, a little surprised that UVA couldn't move the ball through the air.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_03: It seems like they just didn't pick up where they left off.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_03: And I think maybe that's a scheme change.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_03: Um, but Brendan Armstrong and those wideouts are not being utilized uh the way that they were last year.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_03: Um and they've got to figure that out because you know it's it's like that's your best chance.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_03: That's your that's that's that's the best shot that you have to be competitive, and you've got one of the best players in the in the in the ACC, and um for whatever reason, it he just looks like he's regressed a little bit.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_01: I I mean again, it went about the way I thought UVA would score some points.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_01: I thought it'd be a 10.7 point loss, not a 21-point loss.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, I agree.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_03: I I expected Illinois to grind it out, pound it, you know, win on the ground, put up a lot of rushing yards, and win a 10-point game, not blow it open.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_01: UVA is gonna go as far as Brandon Armstrong and those wideouts are gonna take them.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_01: They have got to do a better job.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_01: Bubble screens, short pass, quick slants, um no, no, no long seven-step drop play actions.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_01: They've they've got Tony Elliott knows this.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_01: He knows this.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_01: Find better ways to adjust the offensive scheme to uh to yes, I don't know what's going on over here.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, I'm dying.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_01: I apologize, everybody listening at home.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_03: The only thing I'm concerned about, if I'm a if I'm a UVA fan, is is not necessarily this loss, it's what it means.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_03: Um, because you had uh a high powered offense last year, uh, and I'm a little worried, you know, that this they don't know what they're doing on offense this year.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_03: I don't think they do, a little worried they're lost in the woods.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_01: This is Tony Ellett's second game.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_01: I don't think they do.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_01: And that's I think I think it's what we're doing.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_03: Well, he's a defensive-minded guy, so he was I mean raising some red flags.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, he was offensive coordinator at uh Clemson, but I yeah, I just I thought yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_01: Clemson, I just I just thought he would just have have better wrinkles of all.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_01: So we'll see.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_01: The offensive line is gonna be an issue all year.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_01: Um, hopefully they can get creative.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_01: But that's enough about them.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_01: Uh the who do they play in next?
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_01: The next game is against Old Dominion.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_01: Uh, they are eight and a half point favorites, although I love what old Dominion is doing.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_01: I think they're they're well coached.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_01: Obviously, beating Virginia Tech at home was a was a program, massive win.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_01: Uh, UVA is better than them.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_01: I really do.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_01: And they're playing at home.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_01: I'm expecting UVA, uh, they're also gonna play in chip on their shoulder.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_01: They're also gonna say themselves, you know, maybe we should have lost to Illinois, but we shouldn't have lost the way we did.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_01: So I'm expecting uh UVA to kind of have a snapback, get right game.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think eight and a half points seems right, 53 points point spreads.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_01: I I mean UVA probably wins, I don't know, 30 to 23, something like that, 30 to 21, something like that, something along those lines.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_03: I got to watch pretty comfortably.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_03: I think um beating Virginia Tech, um, who's on a completely different rebuild um than UVA is, you know, they both set but they both have first-year head coaches, but they're walking into things.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_03: The rosters are completely different.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_03: UVA has such so much more of a foundation here um to work with.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_03: I and I and going into Scott Stadium um helps.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_03: I don't think UVA loses this one.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_03: I don't know you know what the spread is.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_03: I don't think they do it comfortably.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, I think um they they probably cover.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_03: I think it's probably um a tighter game for some of the game, but I think they win by a couple scores.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_01: Um I'm expecting to see some big plays there, Brandon Armstrong.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_01: I think he's gonna find his wideouts.
- 1:17:48SPEAKER_01: I think old Dominion's uh secondary is gonna have a hell of a time with their uh three four-headed monster out wide, and I think uh UVA will get right there.
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_01: So I'm expecting that's what they have.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_01: We shall see.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_01: Uh last overtime, we got uh uh Virginia Tech Waffer.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_01: Uh before we talk about that, you want to talk about BC real quick?
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, BC is not a good football team, but BC is yeah, they are not.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_03: But BC is really just what the doctor ordered, especially at home last week.
- 1:18:15SPEAKER_03: Um, Virginia Tech and Brent Pryde needed a pat me on the back game.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_03: And that's what they got.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_03: They needed, you know, they needed to hear enter Sandman, they needed that stadium, you know, they needed the support, they needed the hype.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, and they got it.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_03: They they they got what they needed, they figured some things out, they've got a good run game, they're gonna continue to feel that out.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_03: What they really need to do is continue to um find their guys on defense.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_03: Um, defense play better.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_03: Uh, of course, again, the BC is bad, but um, and then yeah, establish kind of a little bit more schematically what they want to do in the past game.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_03: So I think prize set in the foundation, uh, things looked much better.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_03: Uh, it was no surprise.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_03: Both of us expected that this game, and that'll carry over to a very weak Wafford team.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_03: Uh, it'll be another nice, nice weekend for the Hokies.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think Wafford, I think they're 45-point dogs, like that.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_01: Wafford's 0-2.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_01: Uh, tough, tough, tough start for the Terriers.
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_01: Look, they're gonna start 0-3.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, R.I.P.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_03: Terriers.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_01: R.I.P.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_01: Terriers.
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_01: Um, uh, yeah.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_01: Um, and all of a sudden they got West Virginia next week, but West Virginia might be terrible as well.
- 1:19:26SPEAKER_01: So Virginia Tech might have a chance here to do exactly what you're talking about.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_03: Get a little mo.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_01: Get Grant get whales a little bit better, maybe less interceptions, uh, ideally.
- 1:19:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, get get get find find their guys on defense, uh, find their ball carriers.
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm I'm expecting Virginia Tech to smash Waffert and to get another get to a get another get right game, and then West Virginia, ESPN, we'll we could start, we could start seeing some signs of growth.
- 1:19:51SPEAKER_01: Was old dominion, was OD, you know, the West Virginia game would be a good test.
- 1:19:55SPEAKER_01: Uh also also at home.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_01: Was that game was was ODU a fluke, or were they about as good as they were?
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_01: You know, I think we'll find out there.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_03: So and you need these Walford type matchups early in a rebuild because this this staff, you know, you you think about it from a fan's perspective, and um, you know, in your mind, you look at a Grant Wells and you look at some of these guys, and um, you just you feel like you know what to expect a little bit, but these coaches are still figuring out who you know who's stepping up when the lights come on versus you know who looks good with a practice jersey.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_03: And so you really need to play with those rotations and and see who you can trust.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_03: And so this is another game where um they're gonna get a lot of film on a lot of new guys and um you know hopefully find a few more guys that that they they can rely on down the road.
- 1:20:48SPEAKER_01: I hope so because Virginia Tech, it's it's kind of get right time now, or it's or it's not gonna be get right this season.
- 1:20:54SPEAKER_01: Because after Wafford and West Virginia, who I West Virginia, who I think is bad, listen to their next four at North Carolina, who all of a sudden's pretty good, at Pitt, Miami, at NC State.
- 1:21:07SPEAKER_01: Brutal, brutal four weeks after the Hokies.
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_03: You're looking down the barrel of probably four straight losses.
- 1:21:13SPEAKER_01: It very, very well could be very well could be.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_01: I think they might I think they'll get one of them.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_01: I think they have a chance to come and bite one of them.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_01: But it'll take obviously Waffern and West Virginia, those two wins can be.
- 1:21:24SPEAKER_01: They might be if they're going to a bowl, they're winning this week and next week.
- 1:21:28SPEAKER_03: Which one of those is is in Lane Stadium?
- 1:21:31SPEAKER_01: Miami.
- 1:21:33SPEAKER_03: That's tough.
- 1:21:35SPEAKER_03: They're gonna be they might be single-digit dogs in that one.
- 1:21:38SPEAKER_03: They might be double-digit dogs in every other one.
- 1:21:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:21:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_01: Depending on what we see in West Virginia at Waffer, but no, I think you're right.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, but anyway, they're gonna get a win this week.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_01: They're gonna get right.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_01: Virginia Brent Pryze is gonna have more time to install his system, his guys, identify who they're working so that way they'll they can start looking at uh the 730 um uh primetime game against uh West Virginia, which if nothing else will be great television.
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_01: So it's always a good matchup.
- 1:22:05SPEAKER_01: Always a good matchup.
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_01: All right, that does it for week three.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_01: Anything else you want to add, Brah?
- 1:22:10SPEAKER_03: No, no.
- 1:22:11SPEAKER_03: Thanks for listening.
