- 0:20SPEAKER_00: I have a great friend in my life who's always positive and cheering me on,
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: and I think everybody needs that.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: So today, I want to motivate you to be that person to someone else.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Did you know the Bible tells us to do that?
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: In 1 Thessalonians 5.11,
- 0:36I'm going to read out of the ESV version,
- 0:38"Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing."
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Now I know it doesn't come naturally to everybody,
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: but I think we all can find ways that are comfortable for us
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: to come alongside somebody and lift them up.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: If nothing else, just to put a smile on their face.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: We all can do that.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: I'm going to list a lot of different ways,
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: so hopefully one will stick out to you and you can put it into practice.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Let's encourage each other with our words.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: So let's start with 1.

- 1:14SPEAKER_00: You could say things like,
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: "have a good day," or "hope it goes well", "good seeing you", something like that.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: 2. send messages any way you'd like.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Say something like, "I miss you."
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: "How are you?"
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: "Thank you."
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Just "glad we're friends."
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: 3.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Compliment people.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Any type of compliment works.

- 1:51SPEAKER_00: 5.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Send get-well wishes.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: When someone's not feeling good or facing a health situation, get-well wishes can cheer them up.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: 6.,
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: be affirming.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: People want to feel validated.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: You could say things like, "great job", "you got this."
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: "You're more than capable to handle this."
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: "I trust you."
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Those types of things.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: So we talked about words, so now let's talk about encouraging others with our actions.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: 7.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: a simple smile goes a long way.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: 8.

- 3:01SPEAKER_00: 12.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Choose the person you're talking to over your phone.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Don't be distracted by whatever's coming through on your phone.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Okay, now let's talk about how to encourage people with our prayers.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: 13.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: If someone mentions a prayer request, volunteer to pray for it.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: 14.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Then follow through on your promise to pray.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Don't forget about it.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: 15.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Follow up with that person later.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Let them know you've been praying.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: 16.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Ask how it's going with the prayer request.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Okay, now let's talk about encouraging by just offering practical help.

- 4:03SPEAKER_00: 20.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Allow the person behind you to go ahead of you in line.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Okay, now let's talk about encouraging by asking questions.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: 22.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: If an opportunity comes up,
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: find out what's important to someone by Showing an interest in their family.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Asking, do you have siblings?
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Asking how their family is doing?
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: That kind of thing.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: 23.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Show interest in their life.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Find out if they have a hobby.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: And you do that by asking questions.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: 24.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Ask them how they spend their downtime.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Because finding out what's important to them is a great way to encourage them.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Let's spread some light into this dark world.
