- 0:06Welcome to the unto take a deep breath.
- 0:11Take the higher road.
- 0:13That's what they always say.
- 0:16They won't take it from me.
- 0:20But don't ever die yourself for swiping just
- 0:22a dream.
- 0:24You made your own so kick and scream.
- 0:27The people who will laugh with a never
- 0:29ending force.
- 0:31You never have the chance to watch a
- 0:35win for my friend because this is whole.
- 0:44It's time and this is why.
- 0:59And that's motivation.
- 1:01Because let's be honest, motivation is easy when
- 1:03you feel good.
- 1:05It's easy when you're inspired.
- 1:07And it's easy when everything is going your
- 1:08way.
- 1:10But what happens when it's not?
- 1:12What happens when you're exhausted, when life hits
- 1:14you sideways, when your body is inflamed, your
- 1:17mind is overwhelmed, and your spirit feels just
- 1:19a little bit off.
- 1:22That's where mindset comes in.
- 1:25Because mindset is what carries you when motivation
- 1:27disappears.
- 1:29And in healthcare, in life, in leadership, we
- 1:31are seeing more than ever what happens when
- 1:34people are operating from burnout instead of purpose,
- 1:37from reaction instead of intention, and from survival
- 1:40instead of alignment.
- 1:44But you don't need more motivation.
- 1:46You need an identity shift.
- 1:48You need discipline rooted in who you are
- 1:50becoming.
- 1:51And today's guest is someone who embodies that
- 1:53at the deepest level.
- 1:55This is not theory.
- 1:57This is not surface level self-help.
- 1:59This is lived transformation.
- 2:02We're talking about what it actually takes to
- 2:04break through to rebuild and to create a
- 2:07life that is aligned, intentional, and sustainable.
- 2:10So if you've ever felt stuck, if you've
- 2:12ever started over more times than you can
- 2:15count, or if you're ready to finally flip
- 2:17the switch, then this episode is for you.
- 2:21You're listening to the nurses report on America
- 2:23Out Loud Talk Radio.
- 2:24I'm your host, Nurse Kimberly Overton.
- 2:27Before we get started today, I do want
- 2:28to encourage our listeners.

- 2:47fight.

- 2:51will continue to be that voice for you.

- 4:04At P510 Coaching, the mission is simple.
- 4:06Create alignment, execute with intention, and build sustainable
- 4:09discipline.
- 4:12John, welcome to the show.
- 4:15Hey Camberly, how are you?
- 4:17Thank you for having me.
- 4:18I'm doing well.
- 4:18Thanks so much for being here.
- 4:19Thank you for taking the time.
- 4:22You know, before we get into your story
- 4:24and how all of this happened, I really
- 4:26wanted to start with sharing something personal with
- 4:28my listeners.
- 4:30Um, that you've actually started coaching me right
- 4:31now.
- 4:34And which I have all I've apologized to
- 4:36him so many times about this.
- 4:41So many times.
- 4:42I gave him the warning.
- 4:43I gave him the spiel.
- 4:44Um, but I just wanted to kind of
- 4:46start with just in our initial conversations that
- 4:48we were having.
- 4:51What made you feel like I was ready
- 4:53for this level of transformation?
- 4:57First off, it it really was your mindset.
- 5:00Like I heard someone that was needing a
- 5:02change that wanted a transformation, even if it's
- 5:03small and not big.
- 5:06But I heard it in your tone, even
- 5:07though it was through text.
- 5:09I heard that um you just needed an
- 5:11opportunity for someone to believe in you and
- 5:14help help you believe into yourself.
- 5:16And um, that's what my program is all
- 5:20about is allowing people room to turn motivation
- 5:23into discipline and discipline into consistency.
- 5:27And I can just hear it in your
- 5:29tone that like you you had the willpower,
- 5:30you just need to believe.
- 5:32Yeah, you know, I I have the desire,
- 5:34certainly.
- 5:36I think most people out there have the
- 5:37desire.
- 5:38That's the easy part, right?
- 5:39We all want to change at some level,
- 5:41whether that's you know, losing 10 pounds or
- 5:43what you know, whatever it is.
- 5:45We all have something in life that we
- 5:48desire to change and to transform, but it's
- 5:51putting it into action that seems to be
- 5:54the struggle for so many people.
- 5:58That's true, and I mean, so many people
- 6:01put expectations, timelines, and pressure on that, and
- 6:04that in itself is the problem because when
- 6:06you when you relieve yourself of that pressure,
- 6:09when you relieve yourself of timelines, when you
- 6:12relieve yourself of expectations is when you'll actually
- 6:14grow.
- 6:17And I know that sounds like it's hard
- 6:18to do.
- 6:19You're like, what do you mean?
- 6:20Like I have a goal weight, that's fine,
- 6:21right?
- 6:23But as long as you're stuck in a
- 6:25timeline, a theory, you know, a expectation, the
- 6:28harder it's going to be because in the
- 6:31day that allows you to create stress, self-doubt,
- 6:34etc.
- 6:37And allows you to actually give up before
- 6:38you even get started.
- 6:40Yeah.
- 6:41And I'm I'm really interested in this, just
- 6:43from your perspective as a coach, as somebody
- 6:45who's been doing this for a while.
- 6:47What are some of the most common patterns
- 6:50that you see in high performing women, especially?
- 6:53Um, and especially from nurses when it comes
- 6:55to health and fitness struggles, because nurses historically,
- 6:58we are not, we are just not the
- 7:00We are just not the uh healthiest group
- 7:00uh healthiest group of individuals.
- 7:01of individuals.
- 7:03I'll just say it.
- 7:03I'll just say it.
- 7:06I think I think what it comes down
- 7:06I think I think what it comes down
- 7:07to, the most common thing I see is
- 7:07to, the most common thing I see is
- 7:09time management.
- 7:09time management.
- 7:11I know the nurses are working most of
- 7:11I know that nurses are working most of
- 7:13the time out of schedule in schedule, trying
- 7:13the time out of schedule in schedule, trying
- 7:16to create a schedule.
- 7:16to create a schedule.
- 7:18And I know for some it may be
- 7:18And I know for some it may be
- 7:20nine to five, but for many it's not.
- 7:20nine to five, but for many it's not.
- 7:22Uh, for many, it's not the same location
- 7:22Uh for many, it's not the same location
- 7:24every time either, or the same shift.
- 7:24every time either or the same shift.
- 7:26So that is really the biggest struggle.
- 7:26So that is really the biggest struggle.
- 7:28It's that same way in construction with men,
- 7:28It's that same way in construction.
- 7:29right?
- 7:31And it's just really learning how to own
- 7:33your 24 hour day, which is very hard
- 7:36to grasp that we have 24 hours, and
- 7:38the first thing I subtract is sleep, seven
- 7:41and a half hours mandatory for recovery.
- 7:43I know I'm not hitting it.
- 7:45You're probably not hitting it.
- 7:46Oh, definitely not.
- 7:48It's a goal, it's not expectation, right?
- 7:50I I believe in having goals and not
- 7:52expectations.
- 7:53Goals are more of a positive way of
- 7:55thinking and expectations will let you down every
- 7:56time.
- 7:58So I think that the biggest struggle for
- 8:01most everybody, including females or nurses, is because
- 8:03of time management.
- 8:05You know, you take someone who's not even
- 8:08in nursing, you know, it may be a
- 8:10single home, uh, a stay-at-home mom, you know,
- 8:12it it could be, you know, getting the
- 8:14kids ready for school, taking the kids to
- 8:16school, working, cleaning house, whatever that looks like,
- 8:18you know, you're just exhausted from your day,
- 8:21right?
- 8:23But what we have to stop and remember
- 8:26is like all it takes is probably 90
- 8:28minutes a day, 90 minutes a day, 30
- 8:31minutes to be intentional with with what am
- 8:34I going to eat today, 60 minutes being
- 8:36intentional, whether that's walking, training or whatever, or
- 8:39just meditating, right?
- 8:42Getting into prayer, getting into the word, whatever
- 8:45allows you to have that self-care moment that
- 8:47because a lot of people, you know, they
- 8:50they misrepresent what self-care means, right?
- 8:53Um, with self-love, right?
- 8:55You know, some people from men they go
- 8:57do this, some women they go get their
- 8:58nails done, hair done.
- 8:59There's nothing wrong with that, right?
- 9:01But if we can do that, then why
- 9:03can't we take a moment to celebrate ourselves,
- 9:04you know, to try to create an atmosphere
- 9:06that we feel good in because I can
- 9:08promise you there's been so many times that
- 9:10even I've had a bad day, either you
- 9:11know, emotional bad day, physical bad day, whatever
- 9:13it looks like, and do not want to
- 9:15go in the gym like the dog tried
- 9:17to drag it in to take a bath,
- 9:18you know, and I get in there and
- 9:20I work out, I'm like, you know what,
- 9:22I'm just gonna do one or two things,
- 9:24and that's it, just to say I showed
- 9:25up, and then you're in there for an
- 9:27hour and a half and you walk out
- 9:29and you feel like you haven't filled in
- 9:31years.
- 9:33So the biggest thing is just that first
- 9:34step and just showing up for yourself.
- 9:36It didn't matter if you have a coach,
- 9:38a program, a husband, a wife, like it
- 9:39doesn't matter.
- 9:41Showing up for yourself every day.
- 9:42Yeah, I think more people spend they spend
- 9:45more time trying to justify their excuse for
- 9:47not doing something than it would actually take
- 9:49to just do what they what they're trying
- 9:52to avoid.
- 9:54Um, you know, and I and I know
- 9:56I'm guilty of that as well, but I'm
- 9:58I could remember, you know, as a bedside
- 10:00nurse working 12 hour shifts.
- 10:02I can remember um being so tired after
- 10:04I worked in the ICU, I was so
- 10:06tired after you maybe get home and get
- 10:08a few hours of sleep.
- 10:10You get up, you've got to rush to
- 10:12get to the the back to the hospital,
- 10:15you forgot to you know prep your meal
- 10:17and and then you're looking at um the
- 10:19vending machine and wondering, you know, if you
- 10:21should take your chances on like a pork
- 10:23egg roll out of a hospital vending machine
- 10:25because you don't have anything else to eat,
- 10:27you know, and everything if you're working night
- 10:29shift, everything's closed.
- 10:31So you know, you're just kind of screwed
- 10:33in that.
- 10:35And it it's it's it's a tough spot
- 10:36to be in.
- 10:38But again, I just spent all that time
- 10:41making all of these excuses when I could
- 10:43have, you know, just did what I uh
- 10:45needed to do and and taking a dang
- 10:47cheese stick or something, you know.
- 10:50I mean, that that's 100% true.
- 10:52And there's a couple things I want to
- 10:53touch on in there.
- 10:54When in doubt, protein it out, right?
- 10:56Oh, I like the pork egg, the pork
- 10:58egg roll at a vintage machine is probably
- 11:00not the right choice.
- 11:02Okay.
- 11:03Um, you know, maybe you guys need to
- 11:05talk HR or whatever about getting healthy vending
- 11:06machines.
- 11:08But no, look, for real, like here's a
- 11:09couple things, right?
- 11:10Number one.
- 11:11I have most people, most people have greater
- 11:15success in anything planning ahead, correct?
- 11:20Yeah.
- 11:20Okay.
- 11:20So one thing that I've noticed in my
- 11:23coaching program and with men and women across,
- 11:25you know, the country is a lot of
- 11:28times we eat when we're hungry, right?
- 11:31Yeah.
- 11:31We go, what happens when you go grocery
- 11:32shopping when you're hungry?
- 11:34You buy way more than you'll ever eat,
- 11:35and it ends up expiring before you even
- 11:36touch it, right?
- 11:38If you wait to eat when you're hungry,
- 11:40you're going to always make bad choices.
- 11:42But if you eat to fuel your body,
- 11:44you never get to the point where you're
- 11:45desperate to eat anything, right?
- 11:47So there's that.
- 11:49Also, the biggest way to prep.
- 11:51I'm I'm not a prepper that preps on
- 11:53Sunday for meals throughout the week because I
- 11:55just I to each their own.
- 11:57If you do that, and that's what keeps
- 11:58you going, great.
- 12:00I'm not that guy.
- 12:01But what I will do is I will
- 12:03go in my my fitness pal or whatever
- 12:04nutritional tracking app that you use, and I
- 12:06will go ahead and input what I want
- 12:08to eat the next day.
- 12:10That allows me to go and see my
- 12:12macros lining up the way they were supposed
- 12:13to.
- 12:15Now it takes the thinking out of it,
- 12:16and all I gotta do is execute it,
- 12:17right?
- 12:19Right.
- 12:19Now, let's say you're not in that position.
- 12:21Let's say that you know, you had it
- 12:22all figured out.
- 12:23This is what I'm gonna do tomorrow.
- 12:24You're on call.
- 12:25You get a call, you get sidetracked.
- 12:27The best thing to do is have a
- 12:28go back.
- 12:29You know, that could that could look like
- 12:31not slim gyms, not beef jerky from the
- 12:33gas station, but you know, first form makes
- 12:35a great beef stick.
- 12:38You know, there's other other people out there
- 12:39that do the same thing, and just one
- 12:41of the things you want to look at
- 12:43when you're focusing on protein is the eight
- 12:45to 10% rule, right?
- 12:47So if something is 200 calories, it should
- 12:51have anywhere between you know 15, 16 grams
- 12:54of protein and 20 grams of protein, right?
- 12:58That's your rule of thumb.
- 12:59If it's 400 calories, but only has like
- 13:0110 grams of protein, it's not a true
- 13:03protein source.
- 13:05Right.
- 13:06Okay.
- 13:07Protein, what protein does is it digests slower.
- 13:11So the reason why everybody focuses on protein
- 13:12in our industry is number one, it retains
- 13:14your muscle if you're in a calorie deficit.
- 13:17Number two, protein takes longer to digest.
- 13:19So therefore you're not gonna get hungry, hungry
- 13:21as quick.
- 13:22Okay.
- 13:23That's the important part of it.
- 13:24That's why they say when you sit down
- 13:26and eat, eat your protein first.
- 13:27Because the chances are you're not gonna eat
- 13:28the cornbread, you're not gonna eat the dessert,
- 13:30you're not gonna eat anything.
- 13:32But a lot, a lot of times we
- 13:33sit down, we eat everything else and eat
- 13:35the protein last, and we don't finish it.
- 13:36So that's the importance of that one.
- 13:39Yeah.
- 13:39And you know, you've you've walked through your
- 13:41own, you had you had a 200-pound weight
- 13:43loss journey.
- 13:45How do you think that that lived experience
- 13:47changes the way that you're coaching someone else
- 13:50or someone like me versus someone who's only
- 13:52studied it academically?
- 13:55I will tell you this that most people
- 13:58get lost in the 200-pound weight loss transformation
- 14:00that I had, and it wasn't to what
- 14:00Transformation that I had.
- 14:01And it wasn't to what I learned after
- 14:02I learned after that, not even during that.
- 14:03that, not even during that.
- 14:04So I did it the wrong way.
- 14:04So I did it the wrong way.
- 14:06And that's why I built my program is
- 14:06And that's why I built my program is
- 14:07to make sure that people don't do it
- 14:07to make sure that people don't do it
- 14:09the wrong way.
- 14:09the wrong way.
- 14:10And some people are okay just chasing a
- 14:10And some people are okay just chasing a
- 14:11scale.
- 14:11scale.
- 14:12It's like the worst thing you can do,
- 14:12It's like the worst thing you can do,
- 14:13because what happens?
- 14:13because what happens?
- 14:14Scale lies.
- 14:14Scale lies, the scale can go up, the
- 14:15The scale can go up, the scale can
- 14:16scale can go down.
- 14:16go down.
- 14:17If you use some else and scale, if
- 14:17If you use some melts of scale, if
- 14:19you don't weigh fasted versus way after you
- 14:19you don't weigh fasted versus weigh after you
- 14:21ate breakfast, like so many things can knock
- 14:21ate breakfast, like so many things can knock
- 14:22you off your pedestal on your weight loss
- 14:22you off your pedestal on your weight loss
- 14:24journey, right?
- 14:24journey, right?
- 14:26So I lost 200 pounds too fast the
- 14:26So I lost 200 pounds too fast.
- 14:29wrong way.
- 14:31Um I looked sick.
- 14:33I basically become skinny fat.
- 14:35That's what happens with people who don't eat
- 14:38properly on peptide shots like GLPs, right?
- 14:42Is you learn you lose 60% muscle.
- 14:46So I had lost, you know, I had
- 14:47a big frame.
- 14:49I played football for 11 years.
- 14:50I graduated high school, like 260, like 15%
- 14:52body fat.
- 14:55Like I was good, but I didn't maintain
- 14:56that, right?
- 14:58So when I lost um in 2016 is
- 15:00when I started, and I lost 200 pounds
- 15:03by I would say 2018-ish.
- 15:07Um I just really starved myself.
- 15:09I didn't go to the gym.
- 15:10I wasn't getting in steps properly.
- 15:13I wasn't being cautious of what I put
- 15:14in my body or conscious of protein or
- 15:16any of those things.
- 15:18That's why I just harp on that so
- 15:19much now.
- 15:21That yes, you're getting compliments, right?
- 15:23You're getting compliments from everybody, but you when
- 15:26you looked in the mirror, you still seen
- 15:28that same person because you didn't make a
- 15:31full transformation, right?
- 15:34Physically you did, but you still wasn't happy
- 15:36with who you are.
- 15:38You still wasn't happy where you're at.
- 15:40Sag and skin, you know, all the things,
- 15:42right?
- 15:43The body dysmorphia.
- 15:45So I started, you know, just researching and
- 15:48trying to find personal trainers here and here
- 15:51and there, and you know, everything.
- 15:54But I what I did, everybody gets lost
- 15:56into 200 pounds.
- 15:57What I did is I actually purposely reverse
- 16:00diet, which is also considered metabolic priming.
- 16:03So when you lose weight to that magnitude,
- 16:04you you can destroy your metabolism if it's
- 16:06not done right.
- 16:08So when you're eating very minimal, like I
- 16:10always make this joke all the time that
- 16:12I had a metabolism of a 14-year-old girl
- 16:14at that point because like I was eating
- 16:16barely anything, right?
- 16:19Um so my hormones were out of whack
- 16:22because it wasn't enough fat.
- 16:25You know, women are supposed to have 35
- 16:27grams of fat minimum a day, men 50
- 16:29just to maintain our hormones, right?
- 16:31When you start starving yourself of all these
- 16:33things and all these nutrients, it affects your
- 16:35body.
- 16:37So I gained 80 pounds back to 304
- 16:39pounds on purpose.
- 16:41Didn't look 304 because I 40 40 pounds
- 16:44of that was muscle, right?
- 16:47So last year I started my journey to
- 16:49cut the right way.
- 16:51And I've lost 40 pounds since then.
- 16:54I've got 30 more to go, and it's
- 16:57doing great because like I'm maintaining muscle, I'm
- 17:00cutting fat, visceral fat's going down.
- 17:03I do in-body scans and DEXA scans to
- 17:05prove that what I'm doing is working.
- 17:07I see fat loss dropping, I see muscle
- 17:09being maintained or built.
- 17:11And uh one of the biggest things, Camberly,
- 17:14is I take my blood work monthly.
- 17:16And a lot of people say, Well, how
- 17:17do you do that?
- 17:18Well, there's a thing called rhythm health out
- 17:20there, and I'm not sponsored by them or
- 17:22anything, so shameless plug there.
- 17:24But rhythm health will send you the kit
- 17:25every month, and it looks kind of like
- 17:27the diabetic like insulin reader thing that you
- 17:29wear, and you do it yourself.
- 17:31You literally just poke a button like you're
- 17:33checking your insulin on your arm, and it
- 17:35fills up and you send it off, and
- 17:38it allows me to watch my blood work
- 17:40every month because your blood work in six
- 17:42months doesn't tell the story, it just tells
- 17:45what happened in six months at that six-month
- 17:47mark or that one year mark.
- 17:49I monitor my blood every month so I
- 17:52can see where I have inflammation, you know,
- 17:54how where my sugar stands.
- 17:56I I used to be top two diabetic.
- 17:58I cured myself of that.
- 17:59No metformin, no medication.
- 18:02I lost the weight and cured myself of
- 18:03that.
- 18:04I was 11.2 A1C, and now I'm like
- 18:065.2.
- 18:08Oh, okay.
- 18:08And I've kept it, I've kept it off,
- 18:10you know.
- 18:11So there is a way to do it,
- 18:13and it's so much easier than what you
- 18:15think.
- 18:18It really is.
- 18:19The hardest part is discipline.
- 18:22You know, and I will, I'll be honest
- 18:24with you, discipline is something, it's something I
- 18:26valued very deeply, but applying it consistently and
- 18:29things like fitness and nutrition has been a
- 18:31little bit of a different challenge for me.
- 18:34Um, but you know, I what do you
- 18:37think are there's there's often a disconnect, right?
- 18:40Between knowing what to do and actually doing
- 18:41it.
- 18:42I'm a nurse, of course, I know what
- 18:44to do, but there's a disconnect between knowing
- 18:45what to do and then actually carrying through
- 18:47with that.
- 18:49Why do you think that is?
- 18:51Well, we know we have to pay our
- 18:52bills and we do it right.
- 18:54Yeah, it's how bad do you want?
- 18:57Yeah, you know, you don't have an excuse
- 18:59to not pay your bills, you get foreclosed
- 19:01on, you lose everything you have, etc.
- 19:03So that fear is what sets in or
- 19:05the responsibility, right?
- 19:07Some call it discipline, right?
- 19:09Why not have that same mindset?
- 19:11Like I cannot, I'm not saying you can't
- 19:13have cheat days, right?
- 19:15I'm just saying, like you've got to have
- 19:16that mentality of this is a non-negotiable in
- 19:18my life.
- 19:20Right.
- 19:20It really is a complete mindset, mindset and
- 19:23lifestyle change, and you've really got to keep
- 19:25your eye on the prize and and thinking,
- 19:28you know, about your your ultimate goal and
- 19:30how you're going to get there.
- 19:33And you know, yes, you can have your
- 19:34cheat days and whatever, but you've got to
- 19:36get back up on you know the horse
- 19:37when you fall off, you've got to get
- 19:39back up that every time.
- 19:41Every time that's correct, and it's all about
- 19:43doing it the right way, right?
- 19:45So a lot of people say eat 80%
- 19:47eat clean.
- 19:49I'm at like 90, 95.
- 19:51I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 19:52This weekend, it got a little hectic with
- 19:54schedule.
- 19:56There was pizza laying around.
- 19:58One out of ate two or three pieces
- 20:00of cheese pizza the next day I ate
- 20:02two, and I'm like, this is not good.
- 20:04But guess what?
- 20:06I weigh three pounds less this week because
- 20:07of my metabolism.
- 20:10So when you're that strict on eating clean,
- 20:11what happens when you eat is long, it's
- 20:13got to be strategic.
- 20:16We're not eating with oils, we're not eating
- 20:17with butter, we're not eating like fried food,
- 20:19right?
- 20:21Pizza sounds horrible.
- 20:22The only thing horrible about it is the
- 20:24bread, which is not that bad at the
- 20:26end of the day as long as it's
- 20:27done right, some pizza sauce and some cheese.
- 20:29So it's not it's not as bad as
- 20:30eating fried chicken, right?
- 20:32Right.
- 20:32But what happens is it shocks your metabolism
- 20:35metabolism because you're giving it something it hasn't
- 20:37had, and now what it does is it
- 20:40attacks that and it burns those calories and
- 20:42you drop weight, right?
- 20:45Because what happens if you stay in a
- 20:47cup for too long, you have metabolic adaptation,
- 20:49meaning that your body will eventually adapt to
- 20:51what you're feeding it, and that becomes status
- 20:54quo.
- 20:56Well, then that's when that's when weight uh
- 20:58weight loss stops.
- 20:59It's when you hit plateaus, etc.
- 21:00It's when you hit plateaus, etc.
- 21:01That's why in my program, I don't throw
- 21:01That's why in my program, I don't throw
- 21:03everything at everybody.
- 21:03everything at everybody.
- 21:05I don't throw it all at one time.
- 21:05I don't throw it all at one time.
- 21:06I don't say, hey, you're gonna hit the
- 21:06I don't say, hey, you're going to hit
- 21:07the gym five days a week.
- 21:07gym five days a week.
- 21:09I'm gonna start you off at three.
- 21:09I'm going to start you off at three.
- 21:10I'm I'm not gonna say you're gonna do
- 21:10I'm I'm not gonna say you're gonna do
- 21:11cardio.
- 21:11cardio.
- 21:12I don't need to start you with cardio,
- 21:12I don't even start you with cardio, right?
- 21:13right?
- 21:14And then I'm gonna start you at a
- 21:14And then I'm gonna start you at a
- 21:17calorie, a calorie intake that most people look
- 21:17calorie, a calorie intake that most people look
- 21:19at me like, what are you doing?
- 21:19at me like, what are you doing?
- 21:21Like, I'm not gonna lose weight.
- 21:21Like, I'm not gonna lose weight.
- 21:22I'm like, it doesn't matter, we got to
- 21:22I'm like, it doesn't matter, we got to
- 21:24get you at a baseline because you got
- 21:24get you at a baseline because you got
- 21:26to plug and pull as needed based on
- 21:26to plug and pull as needed based on
- 21:28the data through your.
- 21:28the data through your reporting to me every
- 21:30week, right?
- 21:32So, like for me right now, I'm 2,000
- 21:34calories a day.
- 21:36People's like, man, how do you do that?
- 21:38Well, that's not even that.
- 21:39That's what I'm supposed to have.
- 21:41I average 1600, 1800, but I get in
- 21:44225 grams of protein a day, non-negotiable.
- 21:48That's how I do that, right?
- 21:50But here's the here's the thing about it
- 21:51that I do that not many people do.
- 21:53I haven't met anybody else.
- 21:55Yeah, I do that.
- 21:56By me eating 1618, let's just call it
- 21:581800, all right?
- 22:00Monday through Friday.
- 22:01That's 200 times five.
- 22:03That's a thousand extra calories I have, so
- 22:05that I can trick myself on Saturday to
- 22:08eating four pieces of pizza and be okay.
- 22:10So you're banking those calories for calorie banking.
- 22:14I love it.
- 22:15Exactly.
- 22:16I love that.
- 22:16Now, some people do carb cycling, right?
- 22:18Some people call it a refeed, etc.
- 22:21You know, there's different terminology for it, but
- 22:22a refeed is strategic.
- 22:24Like some people, it's like one once every
- 22:25seven days, once every 15, once every 30,
- 22:27or whatever.
- 22:28And speaking of that, like I have things
- 22:31that that I call my cheat meals or
- 22:34my you know, my reward meals, right?
- 22:36I have things that I only eat once
- 22:37a week.
- 22:38Things I only eat once every 30 days.
- 22:40One things I only eat once a year,
- 22:41right?
- 22:42To give myself that mental break, because I've
- 22:45been in programs before where they were so
- 22:48hard on calories in, calories out, da-da-da-da-da.
- 22:50That it became so stressful being in a
- 22:52program that it was not fun, and it
- 22:55made me be like, watch this, I'm gonna
- 22:57eat 50 plates of sushi.
- 22:59You know what I mean?
- 23:00Like, you become that two-year-old toddler ready to
- 23:02screw up everything because mentally the program wasn't
- 23:05fulfilling to you, right?
- 23:09Me, I meet people in their weakest spots,
- 23:10and I you know, I've told you this
- 23:12already.
- 23:13Like the best thing to do when you
- 23:14get off track is what get back on
- 23:16track.
- 23:17Yeah, it's that simple.
- 23:18Our bodies does not, our data, our program
- 23:21does not look at what you did today.
- 23:23It's seven days, right?
- 23:25So maybe you ate it takes 3,500 calories
- 23:27for one pound of fat, either to lose
- 23:30it or to gain it, right?
- 23:32So, in order to gain weight on a
- 23:35program, you would have to eat 3,500 calories
- 23:37a day, or for if you want to
- 23:39gain one pound a week, you'd have to
- 23:42eat 3,500 calories above your maintenance calories, which
- 23:44is already pretty high in order to gain
- 23:47weight.
- 23:49So when people stand on the scale and
- 23:51they're like, But I've done everything right.
- 23:52Why am I a pound of two?
- 23:54It could be glycogen, it could be um
- 23:57water weight, it could be digestion, it could
- 23:59be cortisol, like all those things play such
- 24:01a role.
- 24:04This is a lot of people.
- 24:09I know that's something that I deal with
- 24:11um in particular, but you know, we've talked
- 24:14about you you talk often about identity-based discipline.
- 24:17And you know, as you're working with me,
- 24:19if you want to talk a little bit
- 24:21about how you're helping me to shift, you
- 24:23know, not just my habits, but my identity.
- 24:27Yeah, I mean, I think sometimes I see
- 24:28I don't think you give your, and I
- 24:30tell this to a lot of people, especially
- 24:31you, yeah, you don't give yourself enough credit,
- 24:33yeah, right.
- 24:35Number one, you're there.
- 24:37You know, you're already part of the one
- 24:39percent by showing up.
- 24:42You know what I mean?
- 24:43Right.
- 24:44So your identity cannot be lost in the
- 24:45things you don't do, but in the things
- 24:46you do.
- 24:49Yeah, and I think I take uh I
- 24:51spend a lot of time, and I told
- 24:53you this kind of as we were going
- 24:55into uh to the show to start recording.
- 24:57That I I just I always apologize because
- 24:59I know that I'm very difficult, you know.
- 25:02I'm I'm I feel like I'm hard to
- 25:03work with.
- 25:04People will say no and disagree with me,
- 25:06but I just like to give people that
- 25:08fair warning that you know, I I just
- 25:10I struggle, I struggle.
- 25:12I am so busy all the time, and
- 25:14I really struggle with keeping uh you know
- 25:17on track with with anything because I'm just
- 25:19so I I think I'm just I'm stretched
- 25:21really, really thin, and I'm sure a lot
- 25:23of people are are the same.
- 25:26And it's it's difficult for us, and I
- 25:28I you know you're probably right.
- 25:31I'm probably just being really difficult and and
- 25:33harder on myself than I need to be,
- 25:35but like I just want to like throw
- 25:37that out there to people.
- 25:40Yeah, because like when you cope right when
- 25:41you told me that pre-show, I said, Who's
- 25:43telling you that?
- 25:45People or you?
- 25:46You said me.
- 25:47I was like, why you self-aware and self-accountability
- 25:49is huge.
- 25:52I'm not knocking that, right?
- 25:54But what happens when you create a negative,
- 25:57and I'm not saying you're a negative person
- 26:00saying that's a negative thought, when you're creating
- 26:03a negative uh self-awareness or a negative um
- 26:06analysis of yourself, so to speak, right?
- 26:10You've now created a threshold of worst-case scenario
- 26:12thinking, right?
- 26:15So you're saying, hey, um, I'm beating myself
- 26:17up because I'm you're what you're doing is
- 26:20technically justifying excuses to yourself and apologizing for
- 26:23them.
- 26:26Yeah.
- 26:27When you when you think about it, right?
- 26:29And I'm not saying like not having time's
- 26:30an excuse, don't take it the wrong way.
- 26:32What I'm saying is take that as uh
- 26:36even though I had this come up, I'm
- 26:40still being intentional by doing XYZ.
- 26:44So being self-aware enough to know that I
- 26:47got off track should the the very next
- 26:49thing should be the discipline that it takes
- 26:51to get back on track and make it
- 26:54up.
- 26:56Okay.
- 26:57And I will tell you this that anybody
- 26:59that's on a weight loss journey, they get
- 27:00it all mixed up with I'm going to
- 27:02go do cardio and I'm gonna go to
- 27:03the gym, and I get a lot of
- 27:05flack off this.
- 27:06You're not losing weight doing cardio and going
- 27:07to the gym.
- 27:09Cardio is giving you endurance, it's building up
- 27:11your cardiovascular system.
- 27:13That's it, you're not losing weight.
- 27:14But I'm burning calories.
- 27:15How many calories are you really burning?
- 27:17You could have stopped and not ate McDonald's
- 27:19and burn more calories than being on a
- 27:21treadmill for three hours, right?
- 27:24Going to a gym.
- 27:26If you go in and you're the most
- 27:28active person in the gym, you're probably not
- 27:31including cardio, just fitness training, only burning 350
- 27:34calories.
- 27:36Well, that's that's that's a sweet tease 500.
- 27:40Right.
- 27:41So that that's the thing about it.
- 27:43That's the thing about it, right?
- 27:45Is making smarter choices.
- 27:47Like, don't go break your body down because
- 27:49you break your body down in the gym,
- 27:51but we're not even doing the recovery.
- 27:53We're not eating right in the kitchen, we're
- 27:55not you know, getting enough sleep, and that's
- 27:57for cortisol and all the things that come
- 27:59in is uncontrollable at that point that causes
- 28:00Uncontrollable at that point that causes us to
- 28:01us to get off track.
- 28:02get off track.
- 28:05Yeah, I you know, and I I do
- 28:05Yeah, I you know, and I I do
- 28:07make a lot of excuses, and I I
- 28:07make a lot of excuses, and I I
- 28:10really need to to stop doing that.
- 28:10really need to stop doing that.
- 28:13I've I've got to call myself out on
- 28:13I've I've got to call myself out on
- 28:14it if nobody else is going to, and
- 28:14it if nobody else is going to, and
- 28:16I I really do love that you kind
- 28:16I really do love that you kind of
- 28:17of call me out on it.
- 28:17call me out on it.
- 28:19So I think I'm respectful though.
- 28:19So I think I'm respectful though.
- 28:22You are.
- 28:22You are you are you because a lot
- 28:22You are.
- 28:23Because a lot of people's like they're like,
- 28:24of people's like they're like, you're not one
- 28:25you're not one of those coaches who like
- 28:26of those coaches of like dumb a throat.
- 28:27dumb my throat.
- 28:28I was like, no, if we were playing.
- 28:28I was like, no, if we were playing
- 28:30football, yes, but this is this.
- 28:31Let me tell you something.
- 28:32The program that we're in, when we're trying
- 28:34to lose weight, that is not a physical
- 28:35game, that's a mental game.
- 28:37Right.
- 28:38Right.
- 28:38No, and you do you've been really good
- 28:41about holding me accountable, but not in a
- 28:43way that feels like, you know, um, that
- 28:45you're harping on me or anything like that.
- 28:48But it it does kind of work well
- 28:50to shift my mindset because I mean the
- 28:51only one that loses at the end of
- 28:53the day is me.
- 28:56All I can do is create a program
- 28:58for you to execute.
- 29:00And and and that should be so much
- 29:01easier.
- 29:02Like, how many how many times have we
- 29:03walked into a job and we said, Hey,
- 29:05I just need to tell you, tell me
- 29:06what to do.
- 29:08I need you to tell me what to
- 29:08do.
- 29:09All I gotta do is do it.
- 29:10It takes the stress off of figuring out.
- 29:12That's what our program does.
- 29:13Like, hey, Kim, here it is.
- 29:15It's in the app.
- 29:16All you have to do is check yes
- 29:16or no.
- 29:17All you have to do is log your
- 29:18weight.
- 29:19All you have to do is log your
- 29:20food.
- 29:21Because when you do those things, you're automatically
- 29:23holding yourself accountable because you're physically doing it
- 29:26and you're mentally thinking about it.
- 29:28So when you go in to put in
- 29:31OATA cheeseburger and fries from five guys, you're
- 29:33thinking, I really shouldn't have done that.
- 29:35But what do I tell you?
- 29:36I don't care if it's good or bad,
- 29:38track it.
- 29:39Right.
- 29:39Track it because I'm looking at how many
- 29:41calories you you took in for a week,
- 29:43not a day.
- 29:46You know what?
- 29:47And what I really love about your program
- 29:49is that it's very, and the apps in
- 29:52particular is that it's very task-oriented.
- 29:55I am one of those people that like
- 29:56loves to have I have like to do
- 29:58lists, and I mean the old school kind
- 29:59like pen and paper to do list, and
- 30:00I love it.
- 30:02So satisfying, right?
- 30:03To just check something off of that list
- 30:05and put a line through it.
- 30:06So satisfying.
- 30:08Self-gratification.
- 30:09Yes.
- 30:09It is, you know.
- 30:11And that I've I've preached that in business
- 30:14coaching.
- 30:16Like, if you make a to-do list, it
- 30:18isn't just I make a thing about forget
- 30:20it or not.
- 30:22It's in my phone.
- 30:23I got a reminder set, and it's on
- 30:24pen and paper.
- 30:26Because what happens is no matter what crap
- 30:28day you've had, you start checking boxes.
- 30:31Yeah, you automatically feel better because you feel
- 30:33like you have done something productive.
- 30:36Yes.
- 30:37Yeah.
- 30:37Productivity, it's all about that.
- 30:39And when you are hitting those goals and
- 30:40and you know, taking something off of your
- 30:41list.
- 30:43I don't care if it's one thing.
- 30:44I feel I feel so accomplished.
- 30:46If I can get one thing off of
- 30:48my to-do list, whatever that is, if it's
- 30:51in relation to my fitness, my diet, or
- 30:53just my my regular work stuff that well,
- 30:55I checked my emails today.
- 30:57You know, I get a gold star for
- 30:58that, you know.
- 31:00Um, there's just that feeling of accomplishment.
- 31:02And I love that the fact that your
- 31:04program is kind of uh task oriented in
- 31:05that way.
- 31:07That that is very satisfying for me.
- 31:09And I know a lot of very uh
- 31:11successful, busy driven people would probably feel the
- 31:13same about that.
- 31:15Um, we're up against the hard break, but
- 31:17when we come back, we will dive more
- 31:19into your program and how you can help
- 31:21people to get on track with their fitness
- 31:23and nutrition goals.
- 31:26Okay.

- 36:02If you're just joining us, I've been talking
- 36:04with Certified Fitness and Transformation Coach and the
- 36:07founder of P510 Coaching, John Roberson.
- 36:10Let's jump right back in.
- 36:12John, thanks so much again for being here
- 36:13with me today.
- 36:15Absolutely.
- 36:16And coming off that break, we were talking
- 36:18about something I want to touch on again.
- 36:21Um I just drew a blank.
- 36:25Oh, God, checking boxes.
- 36:26That's closing tabs and checking boxes.
- 36:29So one thing when you check a box,
- 36:31it creates motivation, does it not?
- 36:34It does.
- 36:35So would you say that if you have
- 36:37a task list that you're able to check
- 36:39off that it actually creates motivation and makes
- 36:41you feel like you're inspired to do more?
- 36:43Yeah.
- 36:44There you go.
- 36:46Sometimes that's all it takes, right?
- 36:47That's why in my program, I have boxes
- 36:50that need to be checked.
- 36:52It's not just about calories in, calories out,
- 36:55how much you weigh, progress photos, etc.
- 36:59But it's also just boxes that need to
- 37:01be checked to make sure that you did
- 37:03it or didn't do it that day.
- 37:05And the cool thing about our app is
- 37:07it will tell you, congratulations, you're on a
- 37:10five day streak, a 10 day streak.
- 37:12And it makes you feel good because that
- 37:14in itself creates self-accountability.
- 37:16And that's why I've always said, like, you
- 37:17know, you're in you're in the first week
- 37:19of the program.
- 37:20Hey, I'm sorry I didn't do this.
- 37:21Hey, I'm sorry.
- 37:22And I say, look, you're in a learning
- 37:23phase right now.
- 37:24The first 30 days is just learning how
- 37:26to execute.
- 37:27That's it.
- 37:28We're not trying to lose 15 pounds.
- 37:30We're not trying to cure whatever disease.
- 37:33We're just trying to get you used to
- 37:36using the app and showing up for yourself.
- 37:38We want it to be a slow roll
- 37:40into it because I've seen so I've been
- 37:42a part of programs where they just throw
- 37:44so much at you and it's just stressful
- 37:46and it's intimidating.
- 37:48We don't do that.
- 37:49We're like, here it is.
- 37:51Get done what you can, slowly create momentum
- 37:53and momentum will become motivation.
- 37:56Yeah, and that I think that's a big
- 37:58part of it is just getting, like you
- 37:59said, in that first 30 days, just kind
- 38:01of a learning to even look at your
- 38:02app.
- 38:04I mean, we're all have so many different
- 38:05things we have to check on our phone.
- 38:06The notification, I am so notification fatigued, and
- 38:08you know, there's so many things that I
- 38:10have to check, whether it be emails or
- 38:12text messages, all of the things, but we've
- 38:14got to make it a priority to look
- 38:16at the app and say, okay, you know,
- 38:18but I love this app.
- 38:20I'm looking at it right now.
- 38:21And you know, on the app, you can
- 38:23it it has your habits that you know
- 38:25you need to start doing.
- 38:27Like, I don't drink water, I do not
- 38:28hydrate appropriately.
- 38:30So I have reminders on here.
- 38:31Drink water with electrolytes, you know, weigh yourself,
- 38:34do your cardio, do your 12,000 steps, take
- 38:37your vitamin because I'm terrible about those things.
- 38:40So I love that there's some accountability there
- 38:41that it shows you how to do that.
- 38:43But what's really great is you have my
- 38:45my workout all mapped out for me.
- 38:48So I just have to click on that,
- 38:49and it tells me exactly what I need
- 38:50to do.
- 38:52And I don't have very much in the
- 38:54way of like equipment and weights and things
- 38:55like that, but a lot of it, as
- 38:57we've discussed, can be done with your own
- 38:58body weight.
- 39:00So that I don't think it's an excuse
- 39:02that you can't get to a gym where
- 39:04you don't have the equipment.
- 39:06There's so much that you can do without
- 39:06it.
- 39:07Is that right?
- 39:08Is that correct?
- 39:09That's 100% correct.
- 39:11I mean, I've had people that came to
- 39:12me that are trying to lose a massive
- 39:14amount of weight, right?
- 39:16They may be 230, 240, trying to get
- 39:18down to 160.
- 39:20And you know, I have one client, for
- 39:22instance, and she was like, Look, I don't
- 39:23even want to go to the gym.
- 39:25Number one, I don't know what I'm doing.
- 39:26And number two, I don't want to be
- 39:27looked at.
- 39:27I said, Why are we even thinking about
- 39:28the gym?
- 39:30Let's think about steps, even if you have
- 39:31to walk around your island in your kitchen.
- 39:34Let's talk about parking the furthest away from
- 39:36the grocery stores you can.
- 39:38Let's talk about making those little adjustments first,
- 39:41making adjustments in the kitchen, doing fork put
- 39:43downs and plate push aways, right?
- 39:46Let's look at all these things.
- 39:48And then when you get to the point
- 39:50where you have created motivation for yourself, then
- 39:51let's go to the gym.
- 39:54Yeah.
- 39:55The first step is not going to the
- 39:56gym.
- 39:57There's people that will argue.
- 39:59They'll probably fuss me out, cuss me out
- 40:00because I say that, but I don't care
- 40:02what they say.
- 40:03I was there.
- 40:04I was 420 pounds and would go to
- 40:06the gym and sit in my vehicle and
- 40:09talk myself out of going in.
- 40:11I know what that feels like.
- 40:14Oh, I've I've done that.
- 40:16I've like literally got to the gym, got
- 40:17all dressed and ready to go to the
- 40:18gym, got my water bottle, got all my
- 40:19things.
- 40:21I've literally gotten to the gym and I'm
- 40:22like, I just don't want to.
- 40:23I'm just not feeling it.
- 40:25Yeah.
- 40:25I mean, how many times I think we've
- 40:27all done it.
- 40:28I mean, we have.
- 40:30And I I still have a dream, and
- 40:32one day I hope it comes true.
- 40:34I want to create a gym that is
- 40:36only for BMI 30 plus, which means you're
- 40:38obese or you can't be there.
- 40:40I want a safe place for people to
- 40:42go that is a true no-judgment zone that
- 40:43they go in there and they get everything
- 40:45we offer.
- 40:47They get the fitness, the nutrition, they get
- 40:49the mindset coaching.
- 40:51Everything is there, but it's only for BMI
- 40:5330 plus.
- 40:55Well, I think it's, you know, and I
- 40:57used to, I used to, I'm not I've
- 40:58struggled with my weight for years, and I
- 41:00I've been, you know, uh much bigger than
- 41:01I am now.
- 41:03And I can remember going to the gym
- 41:05and just not not feeling comfortable in my
- 41:07own skin, and you have everybody there that
- 41:09looks just so perfect, you know.
- 41:11And you just it's it's it's so in
- 41:13some ways it gives you that motivation, like,
- 41:16okay, look, look what I can look like
- 41:18if I keep on going every day.
- 41:21And then sometimes you just wonder like who's
- 41:23looking at you and who's like just sneering
- 41:24at you and snickering behind your back and
- 41:26like thinking, what can you possibly, why are
- 41:28you even here?
- 41:30Like you're never going to accomplish that.
- 41:32The devil's a liar, and he will get
- 41:34in your head at every opportunity.
- 41:37So I think but I love that idea
- 41:39that you know you can kind of be
- 41:42in a create a safe space where people
- 41:44are comfortable because it's important to be able
- 41:46to be around people who you identify with.
- 41:49That's right.
- 41:50And I will tell you what you just
- 41:51said.
- 41:52And I was the same exact way.
- 41:54Like be filled, the fear of being judged
- 41:57by others, but what we're doing is we're
- 41:59actually judging ourselves and not even giving the
- 42:00Ourselves and not even giving the other people
- 42:01other people the opportunity to judge us.
- 42:01the opportunity to judge us.
- 42:03Number one, we can't care what people think.
- 42:03Number one, we can't care what people think.
- 42:06That can't be our motivation.
- 42:06That can't be our motivation.
- 42:07It needs to be what we think, right?
- 42:07It needs to be what we think, right?
- 42:10That's the disconnect with most people.
- 42:10That's the disconnect with most people.
- 42:11They either want to lose weight so that
- 42:11They either want to lose weight so that
- 42:13their spouse loves them more or they want
- 42:13their spouse loves them more or they want
- 42:15to look better in the mirror in the
- 42:15to look better in the mirror in the
- 42:16shower, whatever it is, right?
- 42:16shower, or whatever it is, right?
- 42:18You want to make a change because it's
- 42:18You want to make a change because it's
- 42:19a healthy change, right?
- 42:20a healthy change, right?
- 42:21And it's a process.
- 42:21And it's a process, it's not 30 days
- 42:22It's not 30 days to be in a
- 42:23to be in a wedding dress.
- 42:24wedding dress.
- 42:25It's not 30 days to go on vacation,
- 42:25It's not 30 days to go on vacation.
- 42:27it's a transformation, it's a six month.
- 42:27It's a transformation.
- 42:28It's a six-month minimal transformation.
- 42:32Maybe 12 months, maybe two years, depending on
- 42:33their goals, right?
- 42:35But here's the real truth.
- 42:37Those same people that we go into the
- 42:39gym and compare ourselves with are not happy
- 42:40with their bodies.
- 42:42That's why they're still in the gym every
- 42:43day.
- 42:44They're not maintaining.
- 42:46They go home and and they're they're disgusted
- 42:48because they didn't get the pump they thought
- 42:50their bicep wasn't shining like it should be
- 42:51in the mirror.
- 42:53Trust me, I'm on that side of it
- 42:54now.
- 42:56You know, I have clients, I have more
- 42:58clients, even with my fat loss transformation, have
- 43:00more clients that are trying to gain muscle
- 43:03mass than lose weight.
- 43:06Because no matter, I've got one guy that
- 43:08weighed 240 and he's 140 and looks great,
- 43:10but he's trying to get back to 150
- 43:13because he's still not satisfied with where he
- 43:15wants to be, right?
- 43:18Look at all the people that are on
- 43:19Ozimpic and Zimaklu cut, all those things, all
- 43:21those GOPs, right?
- 43:23I'm not knocking them, right?
- 43:24If they're used correctly.
- 43:26But if you take someone that says, okay,
- 43:29I'm going to start taking whatever GLP.
- 43:32Okay, which I'm not against it.
- 43:34I sell them.
- 43:34Like I promote it, right?
- 43:36If it's done the right way.
- 43:38But if you take and you say, okay,
- 43:39what is your goal?
- 43:41Give me a picture, because we all have
- 43:42a picture of what we want to look
- 43:43like, right?
- 43:45Or somebody we want to look like, right?
- 43:47If you gave majority of those people that
- 43:50picture, and you said, okay, go do it.
- 43:52Go that your doctor shoot you up once
- 43:53a week, which is not the right way
- 43:54to do it.
- 43:55I don't care what they say, they can
- 43:56come after me.
- 43:57Split dosing causes no side effects.
- 44:00Yeah.
- 44:01Every GLP client that I talk to, we're
- 44:02going to do it twice a week.
- 44:04We're not giving it to you in one
- 44:05injection.
- 44:06That's when you start having side effects, right?
- 44:08You know, not life or death side effects.
- 44:10It's like too full to eat and you
- 44:11feel miserable, right?
- 44:13But if you were to sit there and
- 44:16give that person that same picture six months
- 44:19later, they've already surpassed that pitcher, but mentally
- 44:22they're so motivated with trying to now go
- 44:25past that.
- 44:28Like let's say they were 200 pounds and
- 44:29they want to get to 160.
- 44:31All I want to do is get to
- 44:32160.
- 44:33In six months, they're at 150.
- 44:36And they're like, Well, maybe let's try to
- 44:37get to 120.
- 44:39All you're doing is losing muscle because you're
- 44:40not eating.
- 44:42Yeah.
- 44:42So what I'm saying.
- 44:43So majority of the people that are on
- 44:45GLPs go way past their goal.
- 44:47And then they look sick and then they
- 44:49feel sick, and then their metabolism's trash.
- 44:52Yeah.
- 44:52And they wonder why they don't have energy.
- 44:54That's a real problem.
- 44:55And people aren't doing it right.
- 44:57And like I said, the scale is really
- 44:58inconsequential when you think about it because the
- 44:59numbers can say whatever, but are you losing
- 45:01fat?
- 45:02Are you losing muscle?
- 45:03Are you happy with what you see in
- 45:05the mirror when you're looking in the mirror?
- 45:07And you know, like I can remember wanting
- 45:09to, you know, I've lost a significant amount
- 45:11of weight.
- 45:13I do I feel much better.
- 45:15Absolutely.
- 45:15I feel much better.
- 45:16Like I'm my scrubs, I wear medium scrubs,
- 45:18right?
- 45:21I still feel very uncomfortable.
- 45:26When most people would look at me and
- 45:29say that I'm pretty average, uh, weight-wise.
- 45:32But I don't feel comfortable.
- 45:34And it's really not about fitting into your
- 45:36clothes.
- 45:37It's like when you take your clothes off
- 45:39and you're like standing there looking in the
- 45:41mirror, going, okay, I don't know.
- 45:43This isn't exactly what I was hoping for.
- 45:46Right.
- 45:46Everybody wants to look better naked.
- 45:49Everybody, right?
- 45:50I know I do.
- 45:51I mean, like, I mean, I'm just gonna
- 45:52throw it out there.
- 45:53Yes, I do.
- 45:54I do.
- 45:55Everybody wants to look better naked.
- 45:56When you get out of the shower, the
- 45:57first thing you see is the mirror.
- 45:59Yeah, right.
- 46:00But tell me this: what's the difference of
- 46:01five pounds of muscle and five pounds of
- 46:02fat?
- 46:05Well, you know, five pounds of fat is
- 46:07not, you know, I don't know.
- 46:10So it weighs the same.
- 46:11It would, yeah, but you know, it don't
- 46:12look the same, right?
- 46:14Exactly.
- 46:15That's why we can't chase the scale, right?
- 46:17Yeah, so five pounds of fat is roughly
- 46:19the size of a nerf football, right?
- 46:21Yeah, five pounds of muscle is the size
- 46:23of a racquetball.
- 46:25So imagine the difference there.
- 46:27So you can weigh 150 with muscle, or
- 46:31let's say 15, 20 body fat, right?
- 46:35Or you can weigh 150 with 30, 40%
- 46:37body fat.
- 46:39The scale's not the problem, it's the matrix.
- 46:43It's it's it's following the body fat, it's
- 46:45cutting fat, building muscle, and that's the problem
- 46:47people don't.
- 46:51Like, let's get on GLP.
- 46:52GOP is a tool, it's not the answer.
- 46:55Yeah, the answer is healthy eating.
- 46:57The answer is getting in some fitness whenever
- 46:59you can, right?
- 47:00We don't go into the gym to build
- 47:01muscle.
- 47:02You go into the gym to break muscles
- 47:03down.
- 47:04The muscles grow by the by the recovery,
- 47:07the hydration, the sleep, all the things that
- 47:10come after the gym.
- 47:13Yeah, and I think one of the biggest
- 47:15problems is that people don't look at these
- 47:17things as tools, they think of them as
- 47:19like a magic wand or a cure.
- 47:21And it was the same thing with the
- 47:23weight loss surgeries when weight loss surgeries were
- 47:25the thing to do, you know, whether that
- 47:26be a lap band or a um uh
- 47:28uh what was the other one?
- 47:30I don't know.
- 47:31Bypass the bypass, all of these things.
- 47:34Like, so you know, you do you do
- 47:36that, and then you're like, okay, I'm good.
- 47:38You lose 100 pounds, I'm great.
- 47:39No, you're not, because if you're not maintaining
- 47:42and putting the work in and actually changing
- 47:44your lifestyle, guess what?
- 47:46You will gain that weight back.
- 47:48You absolutely will gain that weight back.
- 47:50I don't care what you think, you will
- 47:51gain it back.
- 47:52Um, in that's 100% true.
- 47:55You've given me I feel like it's the
- 47:56same thing with the GLP wines.
- 47:58People are like, okay, well, I'm just gonna
- 48:00take this and I can lose 20, 30
- 48:01pounds, and everything will be good.
- 48:03Well, are you gonna be doing this for
- 48:05the rest of your life injecting yourself?
- 48:07Because if you're not using that as a
- 48:09tool, so yes, you can drop the weight
- 48:11and it can help with your motivation, it
- 48:14can help with your energy and help you
- 48:16to feel better, but you've got to take
- 48:18that time while you're doing that to actually
- 48:20change and create new healthy habits.
- 48:23Otherwise, you are just going into this vicious
- 48:24cycle.
- 48:26And actually, ask me how I know all
- 48:29GLP is doing is controlling your appetite.
- 48:32Now, there's some GLP threes out there, like
- 48:33Red Atruitide.
- 48:35I believe in Red U.
- 48:36I think it's going to be a game
- 48:38changer for people because it hits three different
- 48:39receptors and actually turns fat into metabolism, you
- 48:41know, and then there's rumors of a GLP
- 48:43five.
- 48:45And then there's a there's a peptide, not
- 48:47too many people outside the fitness industry talk
- 48:48about, and that's Tesla moral.
- 48:50Tesamolin is really good, it's a natural growth
- 48:52hormone.
- 48:54Um, and if you want to take it
- 48:55for fat loss, you take it first thing
- 48:57in the morning and it targets visceral fat,
- 48:59the ugly fat that you can't even see.
- 49:00That you can't even see.
- 49:01Like you can be on a diet, and
- 49:01Like you can be on a diet and
- 49:02you can see the fat that you're losing
- 49:03you can see the fat that you're losing
- 49:04just naturally by being on a diet.
- 49:04just naturally by being on a diet, but
- 49:06But the visceral fat, the fat that kills
- 49:06the visceral fat, the fat that kills you
- 49:08you at the end of the day, the
- 49:08at the end of the day that's surrounding
- 49:10surrounding your organs, test of morning attacks that.
- 49:10your organs, testamorin attacks that.
- 49:12I would push test and morning on people
- 49:12I would push testamorin on people before I
- 49:14before I would ever push a GLP every
- 49:15would ever push a GLP every day of
- 49:16day of the week.
- 49:17the week because it's natural.
- 49:18Because it's natural.
- 49:19GLP is only going to control your appetite.
- 49:19GLP is only going to control your appetite.
- 49:22You know what else controls your appetite?
- 49:22You know what else controls your appetite?
- 49:24A breakup.
- 49:24A breakup, a busy job, you know.
- 49:25A busy job.
- 49:26You know, so pick your poison.
- 49:27So pick your poison.
- 49:28At the end of the day, it's just
- 49:28At the end of the day, it's just
- 49:29a
- 49:29a tool.
- 49:30We don't stay in that emotional state.
- 49:31So why are we staying in a GLP
- 49:32state?
- 49:33It's a tool, right?
- 49:35And then what they do is you know,
- 49:36you just increase it, increase it and increase
- 49:38it.
- 49:39And I'm not knocking it.
- 49:40Okay.
- 49:41What I'm saying, it has to be done,
- 49:43has to be monitored correctly.
- 49:44It's not given to people to monitor correctly.
- 49:47It's given to people as a weight loss
- 49:49answer.
- 49:51And it's not an answer.
- 49:52It's a tool.
- 49:53I just posted a video yesterday.
- 49:55We could share it, share it in the
- 49:56show notes.
- 49:58It says, you know, it's all about the
- 49:59industry.
- 50:00And it says, you know, the world doesn't
- 50:01have a fat loss problem, it has an
- 50:02education problem.
- 50:03Yeah.
- 50:03At the end of the day, it's not
- 50:05educated in this.
- 50:07We're not.
- 50:08No, there's no such thing as a fat
- 50:09burner.
- 50:11Nobody wants to be educated.
- 50:12They just want that that stick the fast,
- 50:15you know, quick fixes and the magic wands.
- 50:17And nobody wants to do put the work
- 50:19in to make it.
- 50:21But we didn't get there fast.
- 50:22We didn't get there fast.
- 50:24We didn't wake up like that.
- 50:25We didn't get there overnight, right?
- 50:27So, you know, the word fat burner.
- 50:29Do you know that there's no such thing
- 50:30as a fat burner?
- 50:31But how much is that sold?
- 50:32How much is that pushed?
- 50:34How many billions of dollars been made on
- 50:35the term fat burner?
- 50:37No such thing as a fat burner.
- 50:38There's things that compliment, but nothing that directly
- 50:40burns fat.
- 50:42The only thing you can do is burn
- 50:43calories by being in a different uh a
- 50:45calorie deficit.
- 50:47Okay, which means now you're eating less than
- 50:49it requires your body to burn.
- 50:51That is the only fat burner there is
- 50:53as a calorie burner.
- 50:55Yeah.
- 50:55There's no magic pill, there's no magic shot,
- 50:57there's no magic powder.
- 50:59So it's all loss.
- 51:01Yeah, there's tools, they assist.
- 51:04But you know what else assist?
- 51:06Just have the right mindset.
- 51:08Yeah.
- 51:08At the end of the day, I really
- 51:10and truly I believe it is all about
- 51:11mindset.
- 51:13I will ask you when we're we're getting
- 51:14close to the end of our time, which
- 51:15is it all goes by so quickly, I
- 51:17will say.
- 51:18It did.
- 51:19But I mean, just from what you've seen
- 51:21so far and working with me, we've not
- 51:22been working together very long.
- 51:24I think maybe two weeks now.
- 51:26Um, but what do you think is going
- 51:29to be the my biggest breakthrough?
- 51:32The or even the biggest challenge that you
- 51:34see for me personally in my journey.
- 51:36Your schedule.
- 51:38Yeah.
- 51:39Which is manageable.
- 51:40Yeah.
- 51:41Okay.
- 51:41Your schedule is unpredictable.
- 51:43But what's predictable is the goodie bag that
- 51:45you have sitting in your vehicle.
- 51:47Right.
- 51:48Is it is it, you know, low fat
- 51:49beef jerky.
- 51:51Is it protein bars that make sense?
- 51:54Not, you know, and before you go buy
- 51:56protein bars, please get me.
- 51:57I'll tell you what what works with us.
- 51:59Is it is it, you know, because my
- 52:01biggest excuse forever is I traveled all the
- 52:03time.
- 52:04I was just as busy as you.
- 52:06I was in construction full time.
- 52:08I was traveling, traveling, traveling.
- 52:09Like, dude, you stop and you ate here
- 52:11and you ate there, and you ain't there.
- 52:12You know, you don't know what discipline is
- 52:14until you really commit to yourself and you're
- 52:16stopping at a gas station, you're eating a
- 52:18pickle, you know, or or pickles have no
- 52:20calories for anybody that wants to know.
- 52:23Exactly.
- 52:24Yeah, like crunch on those all day long.
- 52:26You know, or or one of the things
- 52:28I do is like I'll stop and get
- 52:30Arby's, and people's like Arbies.
- 52:32I'm like, yeah, but I'm not getting fries,
- 52:33I'm eating the bun, but I'm getting the
- 52:35giant roast beef sandwich and eating only the
- 52:36meat, and that much meat will fill you
- 52:37up, and it's protein, a little bit higher
- 52:39fat than you would like.
- 52:40But if you're traveling, where else are you
- 52:41gonna get fat?
- 52:43So you're not gonna go over on your
- 52:43calories.
- 52:44So, really, it's just preparing yourself.
- 52:47What I would do if I was you
- 52:50is I would prepare myself for the worst
- 52:52case scenario with your schedule at all times,
- 52:54which means have things in your vehicle in
- 52:56a cooler that you know when you gotta
- 52:58go that it's there, because the worst thing
- 53:01you can do is under eat.
- 53:03See, people get lost on over eating, under
- 53:05eating is just as bad.
- 53:08That's that's my challenge.
- 53:09I don't, I do not eat enough throughout
- 53:11the day.
- 53:13I probably only eat one meal a day.
- 53:15That's that's terrible, and I'm very aware of
- 53:16that.
- 53:17Um, I'm probably not getting anywhere near the
- 53:19calories that I need to get.
- 53:22Um, or the you know, and and that's
- 53:24why I'm so nutritionally deficient everywhere, like in
- 53:26vitamin D, vitamin B, vitamin Everything.
- 53:29You know, I just I don't get the
- 53:30the nutrition that I need because I don't
- 53:32eat enough.
- 53:34If you're under eating, where's your body getting
- 53:35this energy?
- 53:37Yeah, it it eats up stored fat in
- 53:40the first hour or two.
- 53:43It starts working on your muscles.
- 53:46Yeah, that's what's next.
- 53:48That's why when you reverse diet, like there'll
- 53:50there'll come a time if you really commit
- 53:51to this program, and I don't have any
- 53:53doubt that you will, but when you really
- 53:55commit this, you'll be eating more than you
- 53:57ever thought you could eat, and and and
- 53:59majority of it's gonna be carbs.
- 54:01Carbs are actually good if done in moderation
- 54:03and done the correct way because your body
- 54:05chooses carbs as fuel over everything.
- 54:08Yeah, and I I love I love carbs,
- 54:10I will say I love it too much.
- 54:13But I I will be, I will say,
- 54:14um, you know, I do I do believe
- 54:16in the power of fasting.
- 54:18I've uh I do a 72-hour fast probably
- 54:21uh every quarter.
- 54:23I try to do that.
- 54:24I always feel amazing after like the mental
- 54:26clarity and you know the autophagy that is
- 54:28a it's a real thing.
- 54:30So I think that that's those are things
- 54:32that I would want to incorporate into you
- 54:34know my program once I really get into
- 54:36it, you know.
- 54:38Which I again, I don't doubt that I
- 54:39will.
- 54:40It's just you know, it's gonna take it's
- 54:42gonna take me some time.
- 54:43I I'm I'm a little bit more difficult
- 54:45than probably the average client, but I appreciate
- 54:47you taking the time to uh it's to
- 54:49kind of walk with me on this journey
- 54:51and be so encouraging to me.
- 54:54Yeah, you just gotta give yourself more credit.
- 54:56I'm gonna you're not the most difficult.
- 54:58The most difficult is somebody that signs up
- 55:00and never shows up.
- 55:01That's true.
- 55:02That's true.
- 55:03We've all had we've all had that.
- 55:05But I can't believe we're gonna be able
- 55:06to do that.
- 55:06And you'd be just be surprised how many
- 55:09people sign up and don't show up.
- 55:11Uh I I don't doubt that at all.
- 55:14But I will say we're out of time,
- 55:15John.
- 55:16But I will say, like, let's let's try
- 55:17to plan to have you come back maybe
- 55:19when I am several months into this journey
- 55:21and maybe um have my goal weight and
- 55:22we'll have you come back and we'll we'll
- 55:24talk about how uh what it took to
- 55:26get me there.
- 55:28Yeah, maybe I'll ask you the questions.
- 55:30Absolutely, you can interview me for sure.
- 55:33Well, thank you so much for having me.
- 55:35Thank you, John Robertson.
- 55:36Thank you so much.
- 55:37Appreciate you.
- 55:38Take care.
