- 0:25one and only Adam Kaplan, the Eagles first preseason game
- 0:31of the twenty twenty five season, and Adam, we can
- 0:34officially say the Philadelphia Eagles have not lost a game
- 0:38on the field since December twenty twenty four.
- 0:41Speaker 2: How you doing today?
- 0:42Speaker 3: That's right, good point, Josh, I didn't even think of
- 0:45it that way. But you know, as preseason games go,
- 0:48as I said on Next last night, if you like offense,
- 0:50you probably like this game. And it's pretty remarkable. It
- 0:54really was. And obviously the big story is Karen McKee
- 0:56was just on fire.
- 0:58Speaker 1: You know that.
- 0:58Speaker 3: By the way, that Ben has played seven of their
- 1:00defensive starters, so it's not like they played a bunch
- 1:02of backups, although I was surprised that McKey played into
- 1:05the third quarter, but he was simply incredible. But another
- 1:08thing Josh I wanted to mention before we go in
- 1:10everything is that the Eagles offensive line Stein only played,
- 1:16Tyler Steen only played a little bit, but the four
- 1:19backups they got to feel really good. Eagle's front office
- 1:23has got to feel really good about what they were
- 1:25able to accomplish last night. I'm pleasantly surprised that Drew
- 1:31Kennell held up Brett totha left guard, Kendall Lamb at
- 1:34left tackle, Matt Pryor at right tackle, and Stein, who
- 1:37made a cameo, and they did a phenomenal job against
- 1:40that defense that the Benals put out up there.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Hey, Adam, it's Nick. You mentioned Tanner McKee. He was
- 1:46incredible last night, and you mentioned something in the postgame
- 1:49show on Inside the Birds last night his mobility. Tell
- 1:54me what you noticed about that and what you saw
- 1:58from his game against.
- 1:59Speaker 3: The Bengal Nick, It's really interesting that if you looked
- 2:03at him in twenty twenty three, his rookie season, when
- 2:06he didn't really have a good training camp. No, his
- 2:08preseason was really good and that got him on the roster,
- 2:10But he was like a statue. One of the knots
- 2:12on him because I know people are asking why this
- 2:14guy drop with the sixth round. Well, lack of pocket mobility.
- 2:18Today's game, they want guys who could run and throw,
- 2:22and he didn't put up big number. So yeah, he
- 2:25had the big arm and a good size, so he's
- 2:27going to get drafted. But there wasn't really anything special
- 2:30about him. And I got to give through all the
- 2:32coaches that they've had who've worked with him, Kevin Patulo
- 2:36bother he's probably worked with him more than anyone because
- 2:38remember he's coached quarterbacks, he's been an offensive, high level
- 2:42offensive assistant. Now he's calling a play, so he knows
- 2:44him very well. I thought Patula, by the way, would
- 2:46just want to drop in there. Called a very good game.
- 2:48But on your point, Nick, the stinky part about him
- 2:51is certainly not going to call him a great athlete.
- 2:54But we saw it in training camp last year and
- 2:56I was like, Wow, what we'll see if this is real.
- 2:59Then in preseason he tore it up. He moved very well,
- 3:03and he played very well for one half against the Giants,
- 3:06and then you had this preseason game, which is best performance.
- 3:09It's not just the numbers which are ridiculously great, twenty
- 3:12for twenty five with two touchdowns. He did take two sacks,
- 3:15one from clearly was not his fault, but he's so
- 3:18in control. He makes great decisions. He thinks quickly, throws
- 3:23to some anticipation, which means you get the ball to
- 3:26a spot and you have the pass Tarkers go get
- 3:28to football. It was something mouth last night. Guys. I mean,
- 3:32you know, it's just funny because when they drafted him,
- 3:35they didn't really know what they were getting. They know
- 3:37what the Eagles knew what he was as a quarterback,
- 3:39but they were probably not thinking that he'd be their
- 3:40backup quarterback for two or three years. But he signed
- 3:44through twenty twenty six. I mean, this kid is pretty good.
- 3:47And if look, if we went through the other thirty
- 3:49one teams in their backup quarterbacks, he certainly had a
- 3:52top five backup quarterback. This kid's got a lot of ability.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Yeah, he looked really good last night, as well as
- 3:57some of the guys in the backfield as well. Ship
- 4:00and Dylan. What did you notice about them? Shipley had
- 4:03that long run as well from the great block from
- 4:05Tyler Steen. Talk to me about what you noticed from
- 4:08those two guys.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that was a seal block. Yeah, that's when he's
- 4:11got to be able to make. And Shipley's got that
- 4:13great speed. That's a run like a J Dillon's not
- 4:15going to make. Although Dylan looked very good. We'll get
- 4:17him in a minute. The one knock on Shipley. And
- 4:19you probably heard this. You could go inside the Birds
- 4:21folks if you want to hear a post game show
- 4:23on pod, or you could hear your watch or listen
- 4:26on YouTube. What I did say, the one show I
- 4:29have with Shipley is because this is from a sc
- 4:31This is from scouting. He's not as strong on his
- 4:34lower body that showed up on those goal line carries.
- 4:37He's just not strong enough. And I would have liked
- 4:39to have seen Dylan get that goal line work. Of course,
- 4:43McKee wound up getting the tush push for the touchdown.
- 4:46But Shipley's more exposive than Dylan. But boy, Dylan caught
- 4:49some passes. One of them was really nice. He got
- 4:52chucked down on one carry, but he had the first
- 4:54carry was ten yards. He looked good. He answered the
- 4:57question what would it look like if he had to
- 4:59get tackled. He's the way back. No question about it.
- 5:01So let's say, guys, so let's extrap lady, what if
- 5:04park could play one of two games? Shipley is explosive,
- 5:07They could have a really interesting two man backfield.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Adam Kaplan NFL Insider at Chaplin NFL at joining us

- 5:17Com like subscribe to down load wherever you get your podcasts, Adam.
- 5:21Staying on the offensive side, let's talk about the receivers.
- 5:24Because for as much praise as McKee has gotten over
- 5:27the last almost twenty four hours, I thought that what
- 5:31we saw from Johnny Wilson and Nia Smith was very,
- 5:34very encouraging to see these guys make legitimate progress Because
- 5:38of my mind, Adam, and I don't know if it
- 5:40was the seame for you, but my mind goes back
- 5:42to when the Eagles, when they drafted back in the day.
- 5:46You know, Ques Watkins and John high Tower, those guys
- 5:50never evolved, They never progressed the way that Wilson and
- 5:53Smith are.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, well, let's talk about Johnny Wilson. Right, So,
- 5:58Trey camp has been an even what and a jet
- 6:02point is out because he was at the final two
- 6:04practices before this game. Wilson's come on a little bit.
- 6:08And what happened was Josh and the knock on Johnny
- 6:11Wilson is he's got to be more than a blocking receiver.
- 6:14They didn't draft him just to be able to block,
- 6:15which he's very good at. You're talking about a guy
- 6:18who's over six foot six. There's a player I pointed
- 6:21out before in our show when Mac McWilliams went up
- 6:23against him in training camp last week. It was actually
- 6:27last Sunday, and you get the ball was short from
- 6:32Kyle McCord and Wilson just didn't make the effort and
- 6:37I was like, this is not good. Now, ironically he
- 6:40had a play like this last night. He made the effort,
- 6:42did a good job. He had a very good game
- 6:45obviously this start of the game. As Darius Cooper, who's
- 6:47got a great body for the receiver positions, really built
- 6:50himself up. He's beefed up. You know, he's over two
- 6:53hundred pounds. He's two of five to two ten. He
- 6:56snatches the ball. He looked fantastic. Colin granted had some
- 7:00nice catch at Dotson did a good job. You mentioned
- 7:02an I Smith with a touchdown catch. Nice and by
- 7:04the way, what a great punt return. He did a
- 7:07lot of that on his own. That was fantastic.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Adams. One more on the offensive side. We mentioned in
- 7:13passing about the offensive line. I was very impressed with Kendall.
- 7:18For a guy to get to the second level that
- 7:20many times consistently, it really showed you that, you know,
- 7:25the Eagles is not just Staltlin University. They got a
- 7:28guy that they might have a legitimate backup center and
- 7:32maybe we can avoid the la the NFC Championship came
- 7:35fiasco we had this past year.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Yeah, and you don't want Brett Toast to be that guy. Now.
- 7:39See Kendall, it really should be a center, not a guard.
- 7:43He could play guard, but he's not built to play guard.
- 7:45So he son of us. You know his dad, Pete Kendall.
- 7:48He might remember for a couple teams in the NFL,
- 7:51longtime guard center. So yeah, this is a really good
- 7:56sign for him because there were questions physically whether he
- 7:58could handle at this level. But he did a great job.
- 8:01This is one of those things where you go on
- 8:03thinking some things and you see what happens, and overall,
- 8:07I don't know what else you could say about the offense.
- 8:09I mean, by the way, and I know it's a
- 8:10small thing. During Thompson Robins threw the back pretty well.
- 8:14I really liked that twenty four yarder. We threw with power,
- 8:18and then Colin McCord just didn't look comfabay of the deflection.
- 8:20That was not a great pass. But you know, overall,
- 8:23the offense was fantastic. Really nothing to complain about. I
- 8:26don't know what else he could And by the way
- 8:28the bend was played, I believe seven other defensive starters,
- 8:31so you really can't complain that. You can't say, oh,
- 8:34they played a bunch of backups. That's not the case, Adam.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I want to switch gears to the defensive side of
- 8:39the ball and Ty Robinson second round pick Listen Matt
- 8:43Rule has had a lot of really good things to
- 8:45say about him as a college head coach forma temple
- 8:47coach as well. He had a sack last night. He
- 8:50looked really good. Could he surprise some people and fans
- 8:54this coming year and work his way into the rotation
- 8:56and be an important piece, maybe even later on in
- 8:59the season.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Well, Nick, here's the thing. They traded Thomas Booker, who
- 9:02is the top backup nose tackle they're kind of light. Honestly,
- 9:06Byron Young didn't play in this team. He's got in
- 9:08my own injury. He's the only player if you look
- 9:10at the Fay five backup two tackles, he's the only
- 9:13player to play in an NFL game. I think he
- 9:15was sixty one. Joe Evans was an undirected free agent
- 9:18as a backup nose last night. Gab Hall had a
- 9:20good game last night. He played well playing. You know,
- 9:24this is a guy who's going to I gotta believe
- 9:26he's going to make the team. He's got great lands,
- 9:28he's got his energy, he's doing a good job in
- 9:30the kid Jacob Sykes. It's been around a little bit,
- 9:33so look they're not Yeah, so Ty Robinson, he could
- 9:36want to be in the first guy off the bench, Neick,
- 9:37to be honest with you, because there's really nobody else
- 9:39right now.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Yeah, he really played well last night. And another guy
- 9:42that had a pretty decent game was Patrick Johnson. You know,
- 9:45he had a sack that was negated by the penalty,
- 9:47but he also deflected a pass that was intercepted. So
- 9:50what did you notice from Patrick Patrick Johnson, excuse me,
- 9:53from last night's ball game?
- 9:54Speaker 3: Yeah, Patrick Johnson is really a special teams player, only
- 9:57he doesn't figure too if he makes a team to
- 9:59play defense. However, they don't really have Like Jerksun has
- 10:04not developed as a pass rusher yet. I mean he's
- 10:06very talented, a lot of upside, but he's not developed yet.
- 10:08Nold Smith is coming back from pretty significant Injurie. I
- 10:11mean he's gonna be ready for the season. He's practicing,
- 10:13but he hasn't done it for a full season yet.
- 10:15O Ja Laurie. But you know, he's not had a
- 10:17great camp. He's playing with a good coin. Josh Uchas
- 10:20looked good. Not a great pass rusher, said one good
- 10:23year as a pass rusher. Palell Ryan is a rookie,
- 10:26Obo Conchroe is there, and O'shawn Mathis is a guy
- 10:30that's kind of flashed a little bit. And Patrick Johnson's
- 10:32had some really good moments in training camp. But yeah,
- 10:35he's number forty eight for this or scoring at home.
- 10:38Vegles wound up cutting him and he was claiming enough
- 10:40waivers by the Giants. Legles brought him back. He'll have
- 10:43a chance to make the team because he's a good
- 10:45special teams player. But that's one thing to look at
- 10:47as they're pass russ they have enough guys, but I
- 10:49don't know really who's their high in pass rusher right now.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I think it was a Forredy slipped by Nick Earnshaw
- 10:55there Nick josh Y Fillion for Mike Gillen's Sports Bash
- 10:57when night's having three ESPN. As we've all been complaining
- 11:00about the cornerback situation, Ringo Jackson both got cooked multiple
- 11:07times in the game last night, and I had people
- 11:10are like, oh, well it's Jamar Chase. Well some of
- 11:12that to me, Adam looked like poor discipline, bed your footwork,
- 11:16Like these are guys you should be better than what
- 11:20we saw last night. It was very, very disappointing.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Yeah, if Ringo's got to recognize where he is on
- 11:25the field. But here's the thing, Josh, well, yeah he's
- 11:28going against Joe Burne Jamar Chase. Well, guess what. Ringo
- 11:31is not competing for a backup job. He's competing to
- 11:33be a starter. So you got to bring your A level.
- 11:37The lower body stiffness showed up in this game a
- 11:40little bit. Stopping starting has not been good for Ringo.
- 11:42That's another issue. We pointed this out now for three
- 11:45years people who ripped us, and they obviously know that
- 11:48this is true. If you even know anything about football,
- 11:50you can't just rely on length and speed at that position.
- 11:54Got to be able to transition better. And he just Josh,
- 11:58it hadn't happened. Look, it was really bad last training
- 12:01camp last year. After one week it was over for him.
- 12:04Now I'll say this about Ruingo. He's had some moments
- 12:06of training camp like some good practice, some not so good.
- 12:10Here's what I think is gonna happen Jacory and Bennett
- 12:12who they traded for. Let's see what happens is coming
- 12:15week and see how much work he gets because he's
- 12:17the next guy up here.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Absolutely of course, the next Eagles preseason game next Saturday afternoon.
- 12:22Of course, every Eagles game here you're home for the
- 12:25Eagles in South Jersey on ninety seven to three ESPN.
- 12:28He's Adam Kaplan Inside the Birds podcast inside the Birds

- 12:38I appreciate you jumping on. Keep with great work, enjoy
- 12:40the weekend, and talk to you next week.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Guys. Thank you, Siia
