Transcript
- 0:00All right, there you go. You are looking live.
- 0:03Boom. Kenny Wallace, Charlie Marlowe.
- 0:05A live edition of The Kenny Wallace Show.
- 0:08Herm Joey Logano. He is built for this now a three
- 0:13time NASCAR Cup Series champion. How about that?
- 0:18First of all, Charlie, it's hard to believe here we are at the
- 0:20end of another year. Great job, my friend, on all the
- 0:24content that you have put out. OK, Yeah.
- 0:28I want to address the elephant in the room right away because
- 0:30this is what everybody's waiting for.
- 0:34And I don't mean to be mean, OK? But I'm just going to tell you,
- 0:37the way I see it, a lot of people are going.
- 0:41Joey Logano needs to put an asterisk next to this because he
- 0:45was put into the playoffs. Hold on.
- 0:48Now, hear me out. And Charlie, make sure you
- 0:50record this and let's clip this and put this on X.
- 0:53OK? First of all, I want to thank
- 0:55you all for showing up right here on the Kenny Wallace Show
- 0:58on YouTube with my partner, Charlie Marlow.
- 1:01Charlie is the best. Hello, Gerald from South
- 1:03Carolina. All right, let me let me explain
- 1:08why Joey Logano is a deserving champion.
- 1:12OK, so Alex Bowman is in the championship, right?
- 1:17And he goes to tech inspection at Charlotte Motor Speedway for
- 1:21the Roval. Now Alex Bowman goes in tech
- 1:25inspection in front of the world.
- 1:26Everybody's watching. There's there's people watching.
- 1:29They can see it. And his car is very light.
- 1:33It's very light. It's more than 17 lbs light.
- 1:36So much that the team decided they could not, you know, appeal
- 1:42it. Rick Hendrick came out later and
- 1:44said we're not going to appeal this because Alex Bowman is
- 1:48light. We messed up.
- 1:50So. So what is NASCAR supposed to
- 1:52do? Are they supposed to lie?
- 1:55I got a lot of friends that say, you know, Joey Logano's got an
- 2:00asterisk. I said you're full of crap.
- 2:02He, this is, there's not an asterisk.
- 2:05Hear me out. Alex Bowman was too light.
- 2:09He he was too light. He did not pass inspection at
- 2:13the Charlotte Rover race. And it was there for the world.
- 2:16We'll see. So.
- 2:18So unfortunately Alex Bowman is out, right?
- 2:21So who who's got to be put in? It's Joey Logano.
- 2:25So Charlie, as far as this, there's an asterisk and Joey
- 2:29Logano doesn't deserve this. Well, then you got to say to
- 2:32yourself, did Alex Bowman deserve?
- 2:35Do you, do you want NASCAR looking the other way and go,
- 2:38oh, So what Alex Bowman's 30 lbs like, because here's that's an
- 2:45easy number to say because they said Charlie, if you remember,
- 2:50they said, well, we give them weight, we give them some burn
- 2:54off and he's still over 17 lbs light.
- 2:57So, you know, listen, I said Alex was over 30 lbs light and
- 3:01nobody argued with me, nobody. So we could not allow NASCAR to
- 3:05turn, turn their head. So that puts Joey Logano in.
- 3:08Now say what you said again about Joey Logano being
- 3:15Showtime. What does he do?
- 3:17What does Joey Logano do? He shows up right.
- 3:19He's he's built for this, he's built for this format.
- 3:23And I think here's here's what I'm seeing on X now.
- 3:25I'm glad you brought up the Bowman thing.
- 3:27Anybody that thinks there's an asterisk, I I think is nuts.
- 3:31But I think there's a healthy debate going on.
- 3:35And I just saw somebody on X post that that Logano's average
- 3:38finish was something like 17 this year and that was the
- 3:41lowest statistical for a champion.
- 3:43So I do think this is the fun of the sport.
- 3:46There is a healthy debate going on right now about should the
- 3:50format allow a Joey Logano to win again.
- 3:54He obviously gets hot at the right time.
- 3:56Penske has it at Phoenix. People on XI think are are
- 4:00wondering, is this what we want? Do we want guys like this to win
- 4:04the championship all the time? It seems like it's happening a
- 4:07lot. OK, so let's let you're a sports
- 4:11guy and we'll have fun with it and fans that we see on the
- 4:15bottom there. Charlie's got all your comments.
- 4:18Charlie, let me let me let me come at you, OK.
- 4:21And I I agree. Amazing race NASCAR shill.
- 4:26Some people say I'm a shill. I just believe that there's too
- 4:29much negativity. There's too much negativity,
- 4:32Charlie. I believe people are depressed.
- 4:34There's a lot of anxiety in life.
- 4:35People talk crazy. They were listen, the 1st 50
- 4:39laps. They were feeling their way out
- 4:40in this race. The 1st 50 laps, I look on X and
- 4:44everybody's losing their mind seeing NASCAR sucks.
- 4:47I'm like, what's wrong with you people there?
- 4:50They were side by side door handle to door handle, wheel to
- 4:54wheel, and then I and then I was trolling everybody.
- 4:58Did you watch that show? I put on X.
- 5:00Oh, it was hilarious. What the reason I won the
- 5:04trolling award, Charlie, is because then they started
- 5:06racing, you know, but but listening, I do have fun on
- 5:09that. OK, but the reason I won the
- 5:12trolling is because they started putting on a race Pat, what the
- 5:17hell you talking about? So he says you are the
- 5:20negativity. You're just pissed, Pat, that I
- 5:23won. So the race started getting
- 5:27really good, right there were door handle, the door handle
- 5:30passing in and out. And so it ended up I ended up
- 5:33winning the trolling because I was right and the race showed
- 5:37up. So let me come back at you with
- 5:39this. Would it have made everybody
- 5:44happy if Kyle Larson would have been installed?
- 5:48So you got got 4/4 that are in. Obviously Kyle Larson said it in
- 5:54his interview after the Martinsville race.
- 5:56Kyle Larson said we just didn't run good.
- 5:59So Kyle Larson, he just, he he failed in the last three races
- 6:03and and he didn't move on just like the NFL or Major League
- 6:07Baseball. Would you have liked to seen the
- 6:11four that we're in get in and then and then put in the win in
- 6:15his driver? Is that what you would like to
- 6:17see? So you're asking me and not Mr.
- 6:21Negativity on the on the on the chat?
- 6:24There no, I'm asking you what would calm everybody down.
- 6:29In other words, I know I know that Kevin Harvick came on happy
- 6:32Harvick and and he said we don't have the four listen, I love
- 6:36Harvick and if Harv's watching this look, I love Harvick.
- 6:40Me and him are good friends. I don't agree with what Kevin
- 6:44said Kevin said the four best cars are not in the playoffs.
- 6:47I'm like, Kevin, that doesn't make sense because my Cardinals
- 6:52won 85 games, won one wild card and won the World Series.
- 6:57How did you got to be lucky to get the best four cars in the
- 7:01playoffs? So what I'm saying to you is
- 7:04what what are we missing here? What can I say this nice to you?
- 7:08What would make some people happy?
- 7:11What? What would it be?
- 7:13Yeah, so, so me personally, I love this format and and I think
- 7:19I'm an interesting person to talk about this because I didn't
- 7:22grow up a hardcore NASCAR fan. Now I am now obviously, and I'm
- 7:26in it 24/7, 365 with you and with this channel.
- 7:30But I do think NASCAR should try to get fans like me, you know,
- 7:35before three years ago, you need to get Charlie Marlowe, a casual
- 7:40sports fan. You know, a guy who loves
- 7:42sports, doesn't necessarily love NASCAR, but wants to watch
- 7:46exciting sports. And I think this format delivers
- 7:50Unbelievable television, unbelievable drama.
- 7:54The cut off races are just fantastic.
- 7:58Every time you watch a cut off race and you see on the left
- 8:00side of that TV screen and you see who's in and who's out and
- 8:04you see it changing with every pass, you see it changing with
- 8:07every every lead change. I think it's absolutely amazing
- 8:11television. It's amazing sports.
- 8:13I I would think it's great for pulling in the casual sports fan
- 8:18that loves this type of drama, but I do think there's, there's
- 8:21something to wanting to incentivize or, or being able to
- 8:27incentivize the best drivers to have a better chance in the
- 8:30playoffs. And NASCAR is not the only sport
- 8:32going through this. Look what happened with
- 8:33baseball. They said for a while, they're
- 8:35still saying, you know, is the, is the buy?
- 8:38Is that a good thing? Is it good for a baseball team
- 8:40to be cold for three days, whatever it is, and then have to
- 8:43play a team that was playing and they get hot?
- 8:46And I watched, I watched Denny Hamlin's media availability
- 8:49yesterday, and I think the way he said it, he said it really
- 8:53well. And I agree with he just wants
- 8:56more races and a larger sample size.
- 9:00So I think the NASCAR format's great, but I do think some
- 9:04tweaks here or there, could you just make a few tweaks that
- 9:07allow the best drivers a better shot?
- 9:11You know, when you get down to three race chunks, if you have a
- 9:15really bad race, you're kind of screwed.
- 9:17So I love the playoff format, but I do think some tweaks here
- 9:21or there can allow for a larger sample size and maybe you'll
- 9:25have more of the better drivers when.
- 9:27I still like the wild cards here and there, but it seems like
- 9:30it's happening a lot lately. How about that?
- 9:33Yeah, OK. And that's and I love it and let
- 9:36let me come back at you because as you were talking, I was
- 9:39thinking, OK, I think one thing that a lot of people and respond
- 9:44right here everybody, I think one thing that people are
- 9:48forgetting about is we seed these drivers.
- 9:51So in other words, if you are a great driver and you are in the
- 9:56final last three races and you're really good like Kyle
- 10:00Larson, he was seated first. He had like a 50 point
- 10:04advantage. I want to repeat that.
- 10:08I don't want I want this edited in.
- 10:11People say they want the better drivers to get in the playoffs.
- 10:16What do you do? You realize how many points Kyle
- 10:18Larson lost? He was seated #1 respond right
- 10:23here. Everybody.
- 10:24This is a big debate. Kyle Larson was seated.
- 10:27He was 50 points ahead of everybody, and he lost all 50
- 10:32points because it didn't go good.
- 10:36I mean, Charlie, I don't want you to agree with me.
- 10:40Do you think people forget about the seating process?
- 10:43Because it's like, OK, you know, we start out with 16 drivers,
- 10:48then we get rid of four, then we get rid of four.
- 10:51And every time, you know, we go into the neck, we go, we go 10
- 10:55races, right? Then we keep going 3.
- 10:58Every time we change, somebody gets way more points because
- 11:02they're good. Do you think?
- 11:04People forgot about that. I do.
- 11:07I do think some small tweaks, for example, OK, the
- 11:10Championship 4, Kenny, do you think it would be that big of a
- 11:14difference if you had, say, a Championship 5:00?
- 11:16What if what if you had an automatic spot?
- 11:20I know this has been talked about if you had an automatic
- 11:22spot for the regular season champ.
- 11:24Now I like that idea. In theory, the argument against
- 11:29that and it would have been Tyler Reddick this year.
- 11:32But. Yeah, he was in.
- 11:33It it would have been Kyle Larson if not for the craziness,
- 11:36obviously with the with the double with the Coke 600.
- 11:40But if, if you just put Kyle Larson in this year, then he has
- 11:44nothing to race for for for 9 weeks, right?
- 11:48So I don't, I don't think it's a perfect answer.
- 11:51And by the way, that's what I think people like about sports.
- 11:53This is a debate people are having on the bar stool right
- 11:56now and I think it's healthy for the sport.
- 11:59I don't know the best option. I'd love to hear from the people
- 12:02in the chat here. But I do think some little
- 12:04tweaks here or there. Like you tell me, you think a
- 12:06Championship 5, would that make it better in your opinion?
- 12:09Charlie, let me just say this. I watched the Kansas City Chiefs
- 12:15go 9 and 0 today because they blocked the field goal and
- 12:22NASCAR chats are nothing. Have you ever you're a
- 12:25sportster, you go on those NFL chats, right?
- 12:29I mean, it's way worse than this.
- 12:31You know, the bottom line is this is the Chiefs time.
- 12:35You know, the listen, A5 and four Denver Broncos team was
- 12:40going to win and they their defensive line on that, on that
- 12:45field goal did not push. You know, the, the, the Chiefs
- 12:48back that they they blocked the field goal and then all of a
- 12:51sudden it's lit up with hysteria.
- 12:53It's lit up where people like the NFL is cheating.
- 12:57I'm like, what they do make make that line run over the some of
- 13:01this stuff is childish. And and I and that's the word.
- 13:04It's childish because I'm just putting it in NFL terms.
- 13:11The NFL is way worse than this. Everybody's like the Chiefs
- 13:15don't deserve to win. I'm like, what did they do?
- 13:18Because the Chiefs were losing and they blocked, you know, the
- 13:22Denver Broncos field goal. But but still people lose their
- 13:25mind and I'm like, I want to slap them around like, you know,
- 13:29stop, stop. You know what I mean?
- 13:31So, you know, I hear you. And so I'm going to answer you
- 13:35right now. I just wanted to say that NFL
- 13:38fans are way worse than this because I saw it.
- 13:42Yeah. So hold on, who's the guy that
- 13:44runs the NFL? What's his name?
- 13:47Rodger Goodell. OK, they think Rodger Goodell
- 13:50made Denver on purpose, Not, you know, like, like Rodger Goodell
- 13:56said, hey, Denver, don't make the feel good.
- 13:59That's how silly fans are. You see what I mean?
- 14:02So like what I just laid out is, yeah.
- 14:05And you're a little late to the game, Kyle.
- 14:07Kyle James, we already we already laid that all out it
- 14:10that's what we started the show with.
- 14:13We started the show with Alex Bowman was a light.
- 14:16He he he he did not pass tech inspection.
- 14:20So what are you supposed to do? He did not pass and let's go
- 14:23back Charlie for a minute. We got some new people arriving.
- 14:27Save your thoughts. All right, everybody, we already
- 14:29broke it down. Welcome to the show.
- 14:30I said 6:00. It is past six.
- 14:34Let's go through this one more time quickly.
- 14:36Alex Bowman was really light on the scales at Charlotte.
- 14:40Real light to where Rick Hendrick said we're not going to
- 14:43appeal because we messed up. We are illegal.
- 14:46Our car's light. What?
- 14:49What? What did you want NASCAR to do?
- 14:51Turn their head? And then there'd be drama where
- 14:54all NASCAR cheated. They'd let Alex Bowman in
- 14:57because they favor Rick. Heather, Alex Bowman was a
- 15:00light. Everybody, what are you going to
- 15:01do? He was light, like real light so
- 15:04much to where Rick said we're not going to feel we messed up.
- 15:08So that put Joey in. Then Joey wins on gas mileage at
- 15:12Vegas and he shows up here. All right, Charlie, now we'll
- 15:15come. We speed up for everybody that
- 15:17because I told her by 6 O clock. All right, I think you're right.
- 15:24I'm going to I'm going to tell you what I think happened here.
- 15:27Christopher Bells, a dirt racer and so is Kyle Larson.
- 15:33I think you got a lot of the dirt racers, their feelings are
- 15:37hurt because Christopher, you know, listen.
- 15:40And NASCAR had to react. You know, there's two things
- 15:44that happened, Charlie, and I want you to respond to this.
- 15:46Two things that happened. Alex Bowman was found light.
- 15:50That puts Logano in. It's like, oh wow, he's lucky.
- 15:54But then he had, then he had to, he had to capitalize on it.
- 15:58So Joey Logano capitalizes on it, wins the very next race #1
- 16:05that's number one. Number two is Chevrolet blocks
- 16:09the whole field at Martinsville. That's not NASCAR's fault.
- 16:14So they penalize them all. And here we are.
- 16:18So, you know, I just really feel like it once again, respond
- 16:24right here without going stupid everybody, because I've already
- 16:27told you your driver gets a big advantage.
- 16:30He's Kyle Larson's my friend, but he was seated.
- 16:33He they gave him 50 points. He was plus 50 and he lost it
- 16:38all. Put Kyle Larson in that way.
- 16:43Kevin Harvick's happy because Kevin said we don't have the
- 16:46best 4 drivers. But I'll I'll say this, if oh,
- 16:49Harv zero, I'm like Harvick, you had the top four drivers in the
- 16:54final 6th. So in other words, Logano wins
- 16:59the race. Blaney is second, Byron's what,
- 17:034th or 5th? And then and you know, then
- 17:06Reddick. So the final four were were the
- 17:10right cars. So you did have the best cars in
- 17:14you did have the best cars in there.
- 17:15They were how Larson didn't show up today.
- 17:19Steve Bell. So listen, if you wanted to put
- 17:21an end to this argument, there's only one way to put an end to
- 17:24this argument. Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson
- 17:27should have won today. Then you would have ended it.
- 17:30But they didn't. And that and that.
- 17:32That takes everybody's argument and destroys it.
- 17:35Yeah. So here's here's a couple ways I
- 17:37think you could. I don't know if making it more
- 17:40fair is, is the right word, but I, I think clearly you look at
- 17:45the last three years, Penske has figured out Phoenix, right?
- 17:49It went Logano, Blaney, Logano. And I think NASCAR is very
- 17:53smart, as you know, because our home track, Worldwide Technology
- 17:57Raceway is going to be in the playoffs next year.
- 18:01I think I think it's very important that NASCAR switches
- 18:05the playoff races regularly, not just the, the championship.
- 18:10I'll get to that in a second, but all of the races so that
- 18:13teams can't just say, oh, OK, well, all of a sudden, boom,
- 18:15we're really good at Vegas here. We're going to get in there.
- 18:18Boom. Penske's really good at Phoenix.
- 18:20And I think because Penske has won so much at Phoenix and it
- 18:25could be another, it could be another team next year, right?
- 18:28Like it could be all of a sudden Hendrick figures out and they
- 18:30have three straight champs. I think you should rotate the
- 18:33final, the final race every year.
- 18:36And Homestead was awesome. So if you want to go Homestead,
- 18:39Phoenix, if you want to add another race.
- 18:40But I, I do think that would, I don't know if fare is the right
- 18:43word, but if you had that final race alternate, then it wouldn't
- 18:48be all about, hey, for whatever reason, and I give them credit,
- 18:51by the way, I give Penske credit, but they've figured out
- 18:54Phoenix. Isn't it fair to say they have
- 18:56a, they have a huge advantage right now.
- 18:58Now other manufacturers and teams can catch up, but maybe
- 19:01you won't have this if you rotate the final race more.
- 19:05So Charlie, I'm with you. I'm not going to I'm not going
- 19:08to rough you up like Schrader does me.
- 19:10But let's go back to let's go back to Miami homestead.
- 19:14Who was who was the top three? It it was the guys fighting for
- 19:19the championship today. So if let's say we change it
- 19:22back to Miami, which is fine, but hardly anybody shows up
- 19:26there. I've I've raced there a lot.
- 19:28I go down to my homestead a lot. Kim and I go to Key Largo a lot.
- 19:33It's in the middle of nowhere. You got to land in Miami, You
- 19:36got to drive an hour. You know, listen, you would
- 19:40think everybody would show up at Miami Homestead because it's a
- 19:44vacation destination. But it is so difficult to get
- 19:48into Miami and then go to that racetrack and I'm like, Oh my
- 19:52God, OK. Blaney was leaving Miami
- 19:54Homestead and got passed on the outside by Reddick coming to the
- 19:58checkered flag. So although I agree with you,
- 20:01I'm like, OK. And you know, it's going to be
- 20:03really interesting tomorrow, which you're going to edit it up
- 20:06and it's going to air on Wednesday.
- 20:08Kenny Schrader does not put up with this stuff.
- 20:11He is really good. Like Schrader's not on social
- 20:16media because he thinks all this is so silly.
- 20:19Like me. I just, I have fun with the
- 20:20fans. Schrader's, like I said, Kenny,
- 20:24remember we did it. And I said, Schrader, the fans
- 20:26want us to take and leave, leave Venus and go to Miami.
- 20:32Schrader goes, Have you seen the finishes at Phoenix?
- 20:35And like, you're right. So sometimes I just think it's
- 20:40like the NFL people just talk to talk.
- 20:43But yeah, I'm going to, I'm going to meet you halfway.
- 20:46And I'm going to say that it was those two things that that
- 20:52really got things jacked up. Alex Bone was light, so light
- 20:57that NASCAR couldn't turn their head.
- 20:59That was number one. And #2 Chevrolet screwed
- 21:03everything up up at up at Martinsville.
- 21:06It was Chevrolet's fault. It was all, all of this was
- 21:09Chevrolet's fault. And and it's got a lot of the
- 21:12fans upset with the ending. It is my opinion.
- 21:16OK, let me ask you this then. I think I know 2 answers if if
- 21:20you just had to ask it like this.
- 21:22If if you go by who had the best season in NASCAR?
- 21:27Who do you think the four drivers should have been?
- 21:29If we just said who do you think had the best season and those
- 21:32four drivers should be in the championship, it's obviously
- 21:34Larson and Reddick. Who would be the other two?
- 21:38Hamlin. Christopher.
- 21:39Bell, Christopher Bell and Hamlin.
- 21:41OK. OK, put them in.
- 21:43So, but here's here's where I think the people complaining
- 21:47have a legitimate gripe is we just mentioned 4 drivers and
- 21:52only one got into the championship for although you
- 21:56can certainly make the case that Siebel was was screwed, he
- 21:58certainly made that case yesterday when he said very
- 22:01clearly, I feel cheated. He said straight up race fixing,
- 22:05race manipulation. So I think people are always
- 22:08going to bitch. And by the way, I watched that
- 22:10NASCAR State of the Sport and it was either Steve Phelps or Steve
- 22:13O'Donnell. They said this and I agreed with
- 22:14them. They're like, what sport doesn't
- 22:17have officiating issues? You know, I think sometimes
- 22:21we're so in it. We're so focused on NASCAR and
- 22:24you do a great job. People always want to RIP on
- 22:26NASCAR. They always, always RIP on the
- 22:28merciful. NASCAR sucks.
- 22:31They're always wrong. Every sport has umpire mistakes.
- 22:37Remember, remember a couple years ago when the Rams got in
- 22:40the the the Super Bowl with that crazy no call against the
- 22:45Saints? I mean, NBA, every big time
- 22:49sport has officiating problems. So NASCAR is no different there.
- 22:53I do think there are a lot of fans they always want to crap on
- 22:55NASCAR. But but I do think there's
- 22:58something to NASCAR needs to find a way in my opinion, to get
- 23:03more of the more deserving drivers for the whole year into
- 23:08the final four. I think they need to try to
- 23:10tweak the system just to make it so those guys have a little
- 23:14better shot. I don't know what that is.
- 23:16I mean, you tell me, but I think they can tweak it here and
- 23:18there. Let let me pull a Kenny Schrader
- 23:20here. Let me D bullshit this all
- 23:23right? And this is not about you, but
- 23:24I'm glad you served it up on a platter to me.
- 23:26That is your job. Because you're speaking, you're
- 23:29speaking for the fans, and I love the fans.
- 23:31I need them. But what you're saying is so
- 23:34wrong because all the drivers were in the playoffs.
- 23:40All. Don't argue back with me.
- 23:41Hold on. What you just said is what they
- 23:45did. We had 16 drivers in the
- 23:49playoffs and the best, the best, we're given a lot of extra
- 23:54points. It's like, who's the champion?
- 23:57Reddick? We'll give him 50 more points
- 24:00and then give this guy down here nothing.
- 24:02And then the guy that got no points won a race and Reddick is
- 24:07in the championship. What do you do about that?
- 24:11Reddick wasn't even. He won the damn race at Miami.
- 24:16So he gets in because he won the damn race.
- 24:19So I hear you loud and clear. The people, they have selective
- 24:26memories. We to answer Harvick.
- 24:30Harvick, listen to this edit this speech right here.
- 24:32I'm going to say this to Harvick.
- 24:34Kevin Harvick, you are my hero and you are much better man than
- 24:38I am at driving a race car. But I want to answer your
- 24:41question. You said we don't have the right
- 24:44drivers in the in the final four, but we started out the
- 24:48final sixteen with the best. We started out the 16, we
- 24:54started out the playoffs with the best and we even seeded
- 24:58them. We we gave Reddick, we gave Kyle
- 25:01Larson these big seating. They seeded 1, so they got like
- 25:0550 more points than the guy down here.
- 25:09We did that. And the two things that rude it
- 25:12all was Alex Bowman ends up being super light at Charlotte
- 25:18so much to where Rick Hendrick, Mr. Mr. H could not.
- 25:23He said we're not going to peel it because we messed up number
- 25:25one. Then we go to, we go to
- 25:29Martinsville and we got Chevrolet blocking the whole
- 25:33damn field up. As they say, you know, everybody
- 25:37agrees with that. So as far as everybody saying
- 25:39we, we don't have the best 4 drivers in, we had all the
- 25:43drivers in, we had them all in and then they went three races
- 25:47and they helped in the NFL, they get one game, one game, one
- 25:53game. So I don't, I don't understand
- 25:57it. I think the, and let me tell
- 25:59you, I can't wait to hear Schrader.
- 26:00Schrader's the one that taught me all this.
- 26:02He's like Herman, it's a hell of a show.
- 26:06Mark Martin on Kenny conversation.
- 26:09I mean, you can insert the clip right here.
- 26:12Mark Martin said Herman, this is the best I've ever seen NASCAR
- 26:15racing in my life. I don't like the car.
- 26:19Everybody agrees it's the greatest racing we've ever seen.
- 26:23And what's crazy is people are listen to this.
- 26:27I'm going to turn around this, OK?
- 26:30People are saying that race at Phoenix was no good.
- 26:33I'm like, what do you want me to act like I don't see this race?
- 26:38People are trying to tell me the race in Phoenix was no good.
- 26:41They're crazy. I mean, they're they're crazy
- 26:43and real. It was an insane race.
- 26:47So the fans are mad that their driver didn't get in.
- 26:50They're all over social media. They're they're trolling me, but
- 26:53I troll them back and I end up winning.
- 26:56It's like Herman, that's not a good race.
- 26:58I'm like, OK, they're side by side for the lead.
- 27:00It's not a good race. So they're crazy.
- 27:05OK, I'm I'm not buying it. So let let me again speak for
- 27:08the fan because I think this is what they're saying.
- 27:11And I agree with a lot of people that are saying things like
- 27:14this. If you go back and there's
- 27:16always the people that say we need to go back to the Winston
- 27:17Cup points, but there will be people that will say, you know,
- 27:20Jimmie Johnson was great. He was unbelievable.
- 27:24But should he have 7 championships?
- 27:26Those same people will say Kevin Harvick.
- 27:29How the hell does Kevin Harvick, who you mentioned, only have one
- 27:32championship? Does that make sense?
- 27:35And now and now they'll say Joey Logano, great, great driver,
- 27:40Hall of Fame driver. I don't think anybody disagrees
- 27:43with that. But 3 championships at this
- 27:45point, I think because we like to argue about sports, who's the
- 27:49best? You like to compare people from
- 27:51different eras. I do think, although I love
- 27:54this, this playoff format for excitement, I do think you're
- 27:59you're starting to have some drivers who have probably more
- 28:02championships than they should, in my opinion.
- 28:03And some guys who are really, really good.
- 28:05I'm not going to go back to the whole lucky horseshoe thing.
- 28:08But like, look, it's the playoffs.
- 28:10I get it. But it seems like there's a lot
- 28:12of drivers that deserve more championships and there's a few
- 28:15that that that have more because they're really, really good in
- 28:18the playoffs. And I think Logano is kind of
- 28:21becoming the post, the poster child for that.
- 28:23And listen, we went and you bring up a good point.
- 28:26I'm going through X right now. You know, of course, the people
- 28:30that listen, the race was standing room only.
- 28:33I had I had a very important person.
- 28:36And I'll tell you after the show in the grandstands, he said,
- 28:38Herman, they sold 5500 camping sites count to that 5500 camping
- 28:50sites. And for the grandstands they
- 28:53have it was it was packed. And he sent me pictures and I
- 28:58put the pictures on X the fans that the fans that are are
- 29:04negative. They Yeah.
- 29:06And and and Joe's right right here.
- 29:09Joe, Jeff Gordon should have won seven.
- 29:12Jimmy Johnson. And this is the argument that
- 29:14you were talking to. No, nobody should ever win the
- 29:18championships. I mean, I'm serious, right?
- 29:21Jeff Gordon should have won seven, but they changed the
- 29:24format. You know the reason they changed
- 29:25the format, Charlie, you're kind of new to racing.
- 29:28The reason they changed the format is it was Matt Kenseth
- 29:32wrapped up the championship with two races to go.
- 29:37You know that, right? Yeah.
- 29:39They said we. I mean, you talk, you talk about
- 29:43this, there was an upheaval and people like, we don't like
- 29:47gimmets. These are the people that are
- 29:49just upset. They're old, they're depressed.
- 29:53And I just call it the way I see it.
- 29:55You can easily get bitter when you get old.
- 29:57And I miss, we miss Earnhardt. I miss, I miss the number three.
- 30:02But be happy you're alive. Dale Junior's happy.
- 30:07I mean, it's just it's it's it is a societal shift in life
- 30:11right now. You know what I mean?
- 30:15It is a societal shift. People are crazy nowadays.
- 30:19They're they're, they're in another world and it's not the
- 30:21right world. And I will never apologize
- 30:24because because I'm thinking right and they're just upset.
- 30:27Yeah, I'm not, I'm not trying to blow this system up.
- 30:31And even even the Steves said this the other day, they said,
- 30:34look, folks, if you're complaining about the playoffs,
- 30:36the playoffs, they ain't going anywhere.
- 30:39But but of course we can tweak them and and they should and I'm
- 30:41sure they will. I just I think about the NCAA
- 30:44tournament and basketball. That's the one to me that rarely
- 30:49ever does anybody question that champion.
- 30:52Now, of course, you can have a team get hot, but why do they
- 30:54not question that champion? Because they got to win freaking
- 30:57six straight games, three straight weekends.
- 31:00You know, I just think I think it's fair for NASCAR to to look
- 31:05at every possible way because look, you want the debate from
- 31:10fans, but I think the fans are on to something here.
- 31:13I, I, I think you, you don't, you don't want your champions to
- 31:18always be questioned like this, right, right.
- 31:21Some, some debate is good. But year in, year out, I don't
- 31:25think you want your hardcore fans to say, oh, this format is
- 31:28a sham. So what do you, what do you do?
- 31:31So what? What's OK?
- 31:32Look, look here, I'm going to give you one thing to do.
- 31:35You don't get to you don't get to change at all.
- 31:37Everybody OK? Because we already went through
- 31:40this with Jimmie Johnson. If we did, if this would have
- 31:44been the old format, Jeff Gordon would have won seven.
- 31:48You don't get to do that. We're not going back, everybody.
- 31:51Because like Chocolate Meyer said on SiriusXM, let me tell
- 31:54you about the good old days. There was three cars on the lead
- 31:57lap at the end of the race. OK, what is the one thing you
- 32:02all want changed, everybody? Is it?
- 32:04Is it you want Kyle Larson in just because?
- 32:07Is it a fan vote? Do you want your favorite driver
- 32:10in? What is it you want?
- 32:13What's the one thing you want? Whatever right now, NASCAR's got
- 32:19it going on. That race was incredible.
- 32:22Joey Logano showed up. The best drivers enter the top
- 32:2616 in the playoffs. They get they get seated, they
- 32:29get way more points than everybody else.
- 32:32And they have they have rough the last three playoffs and the
- 32:35fans are hurt. They're like Kyle Larson should
- 32:38be in. And here's Kyle Larson in the
- 32:40interview at Martinsville going. We just didn't run good enough.
- 32:45So you see what I'm saying? Everybody's speaking out of both
- 32:47sides of her mouth. You got the fans going.
- 32:50The best drivers not in. I'm like, but he was in the
- 32:53playoffs. OK, What's this guy say?
- 32:56Well, first of all, thank you, Matthew Brown for that super
- 32:59thanks, he says. I'm 28 years old and I've
- 33:01watched all of racing grown up. If a driver wins the
- 33:04championship with two races left, then he was just better.
- 33:07Most points win. That's his.
- 33:10That's his take. Well, Joey Logano won.
- 33:14Yeah, I think he was responding to your Kenseth.
- 33:17Your Kenseth. Oh, yeah, buddy.
- 33:20Matt, come on. You are young.
- 33:23I'll take you back in the day. Matt Kenseth won with two races
- 33:28to go. And I hear you.
- 33:31I hear you. It was so bad that they had to
- 33:35do something. They wanted a playoff system.
- 33:38And you know, it was like Rusty Wallace won 10 races.
- 33:44And that was the argument. Rusty Wallace won 10 races in
- 33:48one year and didn't win the championship.
- 33:51The win, here we go again. The winningest driver didn't win
- 33:55the championship, but a guy that just stroked it out all year
- 33:59long won. You see what I'm saying?
- 34:01You, you got to remind people, Charlie.
- 34:06How about Jaybon here? We've had a couple of people
- 34:07suggest this. Change it so that the playoffs
- 34:10in each round of eliminations are done based on best average
- 34:13finish. I'm guessing that's for for each
- 34:16three race chunk. How do you do that?
- 34:19How do you, I mean average finish.
- 34:22I mean I, I get you and I respect you.
- 34:25I respect you. How do you do that?
- 34:28I mean, it's like going, ladies and gentlemen, Albert Poles is
- 34:32batting 298 right now. If he gets a 300, he wins the
- 34:36World Series. I mean, how do you do that?
- 34:39How do you average finish? Well, then that means it got I
- 34:43mean, you could, I mean, remember what happened years
- 34:46ago. Let me remind everybody, here's
- 34:48what happened. They said the drivers are just
- 34:51making laps. Thank you NASCAR Shield, they
- 34:56said, and that was funny. He he he the shill is trolling
- 35:04us now. But but you gave me two gave us
- 35:06$2.00. So me and Charlie split it up
- 35:09here. Here's what happened.
- 35:11Everybody, everybody was mad because everybody was going hey,
- 35:16it was a good point. Stay.
- 35:17We stayed out of trouble. We run third.
- 35:20Everybody started getting pissed.
- 35:22They said we want them to go for the win, we want them to go for
- 35:25the win. And everybody for 10 years was
- 35:28going nuts. Matt Kenseth, Terry Labonte won
- 35:32one or two races in the whole year and won the whole
- 35:35championship and, and the and the cry was they don't even try
- 35:40to win. Rusty Wallace won 10 races but
- 35:43had a lot of bad races. Now we we give everybody what
- 35:46they want. If you win, you're in.
- 35:51So now what everybody's saying is no, we don't want the winners
- 35:54in. We want people that have run
- 35:55good all year. So it's it, it's a crazy people
- 36:00forget what they say, let's put it that way.
- 36:02Yeah, I don't, I don't know what the solution is.
- 36:05Now, is this crazy to to think about?
- 36:07What if each year you could have more than four drivers in the
- 36:13championship? Like it didn't have to be a set
- 36:15number. You could have stipulations, for
- 36:19example, what if you did this? What if, what if the the 8
- 36:24drivers you get down to 8 in the playoffs?
- 36:27And what if there was? I think this is what Denny
- 36:28Hamlin was saying. What if there was a larger
- 36:31sample size for those guys to have a chance to crack the top
- 36:36four? I think the argument from Denny
- 36:38Hamlin, which was very smart, was, you know, if you have that
- 36:41one terrible, terrible race and by the way, it might not be your
- 36:46fault. This is what he said.
- 36:47NASCAR is different than other sports.
- 36:50You could be running great, but somebody else screws up your
- 36:54day. It's not even your fault if you
- 36:56get wrecked, if you get caught up in a wreck, all of a sudden
- 36:59if that happens, the first race of the three, you're behind the
- 37:038 ball and you have to win one of the next two.
- 37:06I think Denny was just asking for a larger sample size.
- 37:09Maybe it's four races, maybe it's 5 races, but it does seem
- 37:13like with the three race chunk, if you have that one bad, bad
- 37:18Sunday, you're screwed. I hear you.
- 37:21OK, Do it. What's this guy say?
- 37:26Roy Music Junior says love you Kenny.
- 37:28I'm 38 and have been watching Cup racing since 92.
- 37:31We have to find a way to reward consistency and keep winning.
- 37:36Important. So both.
- 37:38He wants both. So how would you do that?
- 37:41Because consistency, OK, you get 3 races and if you're consistent
- 37:48and you win, you're in. I, I think this is a moot point.
- 37:54So, you know, you get 3 races, 3 races, a lot of races.
- 38:00That's a lot of racing. Three weeks.
- 38:03That's a month almost. I mean, we're shot.
- 38:06We're seven days shy of a month. So we race for a month, 3 races.
- 38:11And these things are 4 and 500 laps long.
- 38:15Well, listen, let let's update everybody for everybody joining.
- 38:18Joey Logano was the deserving champion because Alex Bowman was
- 38:23light at the Charlotte Robo. NASCAR couldn't turn their head.
- 38:28Rick Hendrick said, my God, we're so light that we're not
- 38:31going to feel it. We messed up.
- 38:34That's what Rick Hendrick said. Everybody's looking at the
- 38:38scales. All the the teams gathered
- 38:39around, even the team went, oh God, what'd we do wrong?
- 38:43So, so they, they, they couldn't turn their head.
- 38:46He was light. Alex Bowman was light too light,
- 38:50way light. Like they gave him some lead,
- 38:52but he's still light. Then he said, fill it full of
- 38:55fuel, fill it up with oil. I mean, a joke would be this.
- 39:00There was oil coming out of the motor because they even NASCAR
- 39:03said we didn't want him to be light.
- 39:05We give them every advantage. Give them advantage.
- 39:10So that put Joey Logano in and then, you know, once again, this
- 39:14is the third time we're repeating this, Charlie, But we
- 39:16got new viewers. So, you know, Joey Logano wins
- 39:20Vegas, you know, then he wins this race.
- 39:25You know, I just don't know what NASCAR could have done.
- 39:33I mean, this is, I mean, in reality, let's have a little fun
- 39:35with this. This is all Alex Boatman's
- 39:38fault, right? Not him.
- 39:40But hold on. Was the complete playoff system?
- 39:45Was it Alex Bowman's team's fault?
- 39:48Was it? Respond here.
- 39:50See, was it, I don't think that's just the people's gripe
- 39:54though. I think the Bowman thing, people
- 39:55are bringing it up, but I've seen a lot of people now we
- 39:57just, we've been on for 40 minutes, but a lot of people
- 39:59were talking about Joey Logano's average finish this year.
- 40:03So I think it's not just Bowman. They're they're basically saying
- 40:06that Joey Logano for the whole year.
- 40:09Was not a deserving champ, but there was in their opinion.
- 40:12But hold on, everybody, let me do a Kenny Schrader here.
- 40:16Let's say he was not deserving, but there he he's top 16
- 40:21deserving. Come on now, for sure, he was
- 40:24top 16 deserving. OK, I'm going to I'm going to
- 40:28beat my own ass right now. Hey, Wallace Lagana was no good.
- 40:32He didn't deserve to win the championship.
- 40:35His average was horrible. Was his average top 16?
- 40:40Yes. Was he in the top 16?
- 40:43Yes. How did he win the championship?
- 40:46He got better as the races went on, just like your football team
- 40:51or your baseball team does. He peaked at the right time.
- 40:54OK, so you say, oh, what? Now let's let's move it from
- 40:57Phoenix because it favored. So now we're going to move a
- 40:59whole damn event because Rodger Penske's cars run good.
- 41:04But hold on. But that's not, but that's not
- 41:07really the argument like Kevin Hardwick has been making this
- 41:10argument for years about to freshen up NASCAR.
- 41:14Everything should be on a rotational basis, right?
- 41:17The playoffs, the final race. I mean, he's a big proponent of
- 41:21moving to different tracks. And you got Saint Louis now and
- 41:24they're going to Mexico and you have the Chicago St. course
- 41:26race. So I do think there's something
- 41:28to that. And and by the way, I totally
- 41:30get it. Penske, Penske right now, they
- 41:33just have it at Phoenix and and next year it could be, it could
- 41:37be Joe Gibbs has it or Hendrick has it.
- 41:39But I do think rotating the final Phoenix is great.
- 41:43Don't get me wrong. I don't, I don't want to throw
- 41:44out Phoenix. I hear.
- 41:45I think having like a three track rotation, I do think you
- 41:50would have probably less of of of what we've had the last three
- 41:54years where clearly one team just has the setup nutted for
- 41:59Phoenix. OK, so I hear you loud and clear
- 42:02on that. You're you're saying when we get
- 42:04down to the final four, OK, so our final four was Joey Logano,
- 42:11William Byron, Reddick and Blaney.
- 42:16You want those four with three tracks and then you determine
- 42:21the champion. Blake Harris fault and Byron
- 42:25chokes again. Sad day for Hendrick.
- 42:28Well, OK, Jason, you know, I know Blake Harrison is a good
- 42:32crew chief And and, and Blake doesn't tell them.
- 42:37I mean, you, you got Blake Harris or crew chief, then you
- 42:40have a car chief. Somebody in the line of command
- 42:43messed up. I know Blake really well.
- 42:46That's Caitlin, Vincey's husband.
- 42:49So I'm going to I'm going to defend this one because that hit
- 42:51a nerve. But you're right, he's right.
- 42:55But let me just tell you the way it works when I raced the
- 42:57NASCAR, it's the same to this day.
- 43:00You have a crew chief. Crew chief here.
- 43:03I'm going to take a piece of paper.
- 43:04Here's what the crew chief does. He writes down everything.
- 43:07He hands it to the card chief, and then the card chief goes out
- 43:11to the Indians and they do all the work somewhere.
- 43:17They didn't get the car heavy enough.
- 43:19OK, but OK, well, let's back up. I like what you said.
- 43:25OK, let's change that now. After 50 minutes of talking,
- 43:30respond right here, everybody. Do we agree on that?
- 43:32We started with 16 drivers. We whittled it down.
- 43:37Do you want those four? Like Charlie Marlo said it and I
- 43:40agree with you CC good job. I never thought of that.
- 43:45The final four drivers run three different weeks.
- 43:50So and, and how do you do it? How do you do it?
- 43:54Do you, do you back the playoffs up three weeks before it
- 43:58started? You know, it's like a clock.
- 44:00Do you back it up? And then, you know, I mean, it's
- 44:03kind of hard to tell the city of Phoenix we're not coming here.
- 44:07I mean, she guess you could. Oh, so wait, what I mean is
- 44:11like, because we're talking about other sports.
- 44:13What I'm saying, No, I'm, I'm saying with you, the final four,
- 44:16those drivers, let me say it explicitly, you got the final
- 44:21four drivers, they go to three different race tracks.
- 44:25And on the third race that you said you wanted a bigger sample
- 44:28size, you don't want one race. So Phoenix just determined the
- 44:32championship, right? You would like 3 different
- 44:35tracks to determine the champion.
- 44:37Okay, two things. First thing, I think like Super
- 44:40Bowls are at different sites each year and that's announced
- 44:43in advance. If you, if you gave me let's say
- 44:45Phoenix Homestead and pick another good track that you have
- 44:50good weather in November and do it on a rotational basis.
- 44:54Vegas Vegas for hell of a race. Let's just say that just for
- 44:58this, for this argument, let's say that.
- 45:00But I think what Denny Hamlin was saying is let's just let's
- 45:04keep it a championship for for the sake of this argument.
- 45:07Absolutely. We're keeping it four.
- 45:09We're not going to five. Everybody else got 6 whatever
- 45:12for, for the sake of this argument, I think Denny Hamlin
- 45:16was asking for maybe, maybe it needs to be 4 races or five
- 45:21races that you compiled either the wins, whatever it is, or the
- 45:25finishes to get to the Final four.
- 45:28And then year in, year out, you'd probably have more drivers
- 45:33that are more deserving for the regular season.
- 45:35I still think, look, the fun of the playoffs is the
- 45:39Cinderella's, like you want the Cinderella drivers to have a
- 45:42shot and that can be a great storyline.
- 45:44Joey Logano was the Cinderella. 100%, But I feel like, I feel
- 45:51like you don't want it to happen as much as it's happening in
- 45:53NASCAR. I think that's what the fans are
- 45:55asking for. Well, I hear you.
- 45:58I hear you loud and clear. I'm not going to.
- 46:00I'm not going to argue with you. We're going to carry on this
- 46:03conversation tomorrow on the Herman Schrader Show.
- 46:07Herman, Schrader, Herm and Schrader on The Dirty MO media
- 46:13platform from Mid America in St. Louis, MO starts tomorrow and
- 46:19then Charlie will edit it up. And Charlie when?
- 46:22When do you put it out on Dirty MO?
- 46:25OK, so I I believe that dirty MO for the podcast, they want it to
- 46:31be released. Since we're taping tomorrow,
- 46:33we'll have a couple days to edit.
- 46:35I think they're going to release it at 5:00 AM Wednesday, and I'm
- 46:39guessing that's 5:00 AM, not central time.
- 46:42I'm guessing that's 5:00 AM Eastern.
- 46:44And then we can put it on YouTube essentially at the same
- 46:46time. Yeah, and Kenny Schrader is
- 46:50extremely smart. And what's Matthew say here?
- 46:53It's a new one. Matthew Brown, I'm not going to
- 46:55complain about Joey winning. We finally have somebody with
- 46:58more than one or two championships in this football
- 47:02era that NASCAR feels like it needs to be.
- 47:05Is that what they want? Does NASCAR want?
- 47:07Do they want a dynasty? Is Joey Logano have his own
- 47:09little dynasty? What what what happened here was
- 47:14there was there was a most of the fan base, one of the playoff
- 47:22atmosphere. OK, now you still got you.
- 47:26You still got my older people. I'm 61.
- 47:29You see, Charlie, most of the people do this complaining are
- 47:32the older people. I mean, OK, so the majority of
- 47:38the people wanted a playoff system so you wouldn't have one
- 47:42driver getting in by stroking you.
- 47:45You, the people did not want a champion of a guy that won one
- 47:49race a year because Rusty Wallace won 10 races one time.
- 47:54Rusty Wallace won 10 races and and didn't win the championship.
- 47:58A guy that won one race or two races won the championship.
- 48:01The fans were all up in arms. The the Winston Cup drivers back
- 48:06in the day, they just riding. They just riding.
- 48:08They're not trying. And that's where this playoff
- 48:11system came from. That's where the stages come
- 48:14from because if you win the stage, you get 10 points.
- 48:18And, and, and when we started this top 16 in the playoffs,
- 48:22that's why the guy seated first had 50 more points or 80 more
- 48:27points than the guy in 16. So we give everybody what they
- 48:33asked for, but they still upset. What's that saying?
- 48:38Both hearted. When do you think they'll have a
- 48:39halftime show with Tony and the tailpipe signing?
- 48:42You exhaust me. I I actually didn't even mean to
- 48:45put that way. It's OK, It's funny.
- 48:47Well. Here's what's funny.
- 48:48He he, he's making fun of NFL, right?
- 48:51He's he's he. We're saying that.
- 48:54So you know, it. It's a here, I'm going to I'm
- 48:57going to joke with you. That's what the stages do.
- 49:00At the end of the first first stage hoof, you get up, you go
- 49:04pee and go get your beer, OK? Yeah, I meant to put this one up
- 49:08here, which is X dude, 2X says determine the champion by a 5K
- 49:13Walker run. We'll have the drivers just do a
- 49:16do a 5K race. Charlie, I think we've wore
- 49:18everybody down. I think what it is, we reminded
- 49:20people, they forgot that there were 16 people in the playoffs.
- 49:24They forgot that Kyle Larson had a 50 point advantage.
- 49:29They forgot all that. It's like, it's like if whatever
- 49:33anybody complaints about, we can answer and I think that upsets
- 49:36them. So you want you want to wrap up
- 49:40around an hour? I have some other topics.
- 49:41About some. What's that?
- 49:42Go ahead. OK, Yeah, yeah, we're done with
- 49:45that far away. Let's do let's do quasi rapid
- 49:48fire. I don't want you to, you know,
- 49:50think like you have to talk for only 10 seconds.
- 49:52But I think some interesting topics.
- 49:53How about from today, Denny Hamlin and FedEx.
- 49:57We, we, we heard this may happen, but no more FedEx for
- 50:01Denny Hamlin. That's an iconic scheme.
- 50:04So the, the fans are going to go see NASCAR's failing.
- 50:07But the bottom line is, is like M&M's and FedEx, they've been in
- 50:11NASCAR forever. They're, they're, they're just
- 50:13done. They did it, you know, so
- 50:17thankful that FedEx was here, what, 1520 years as a as a main
- 50:22sponsor. OK, so they're gone because
- 50:25they've exhausted their sponsorship.
- 50:28They say, OK, we've done NASCAR long enough and they're leaving.
- 50:33OK, how about your guy last night?
- 50:36Awesome scene. Justin Allgire, 14 chances and
- 50:40he and he finally wins one. Here's what's bigger about
- 50:43Justin Allgire winning is He wrecked his main car in
- 50:46practice. There was fluid on the track in
- 50:50practice. They all went flying into the
- 50:52wall and they I think they went to the backup or they repaired
- 50:56it, whatever. That's how good that team is.
- 51:00Just think about it. Justin Agar starts to race in a
- 51:03totally, you know, repaired, backed up car.
- 51:07And when it came Showtime, you know, and I told Schrader,
- 51:11Schrader got mad at me today. I said, yeah.
- 51:13I said I don't know about that call.
- 51:15And Schrader's like, no, he pulled out.
- 51:17That's the rules. I'm like, oh, calm down South
- 51:20Justin. You know, back-to-back Corey
- 51:23Heim did the same thing in the truck race.
- 51:25So my bottom line is Corey Heim in the truck race pulled out.
- 51:30That cost him his championship and he was slower at the end.
- 51:34You know, Tom Majeski was the right champion because he was
- 51:372/10 faster than Corey Heim. But last night for the for the
- 51:41Xfinity race, even though Justin Agar messes up, you're not
- 51:45allowed to pull out a line before the start finish line.
- 51:48Then he gets a speeding penalty when he comes in to do the pass
- 51:52through. So now he's almost two laps
- 51:54down. Charlie Justin Agar come
- 51:56unlapped himself almost two times with the help of
- 51:59precaution, but still lined up behind all of them.
- 52:02And he went past Cole Custer and Austin Hill, and he won the
- 52:06race. Congratulations.
- 52:08Justin Algar, 100 miles up the road here.
- 52:10Springfield, IL. And you mentioned Time Majeski
- 52:13winning the Trucks championship. How about just some thoughts on
- 52:17Martin Truex Junior and his career?
- 52:19I think we're going to see him again in some capacity, but
- 52:22obviously retiring as a full time driver.
- 52:24I got mixed feelings here. I really like Martin, but it
- 52:30just seems like sometimes he just, he don't want to be there.
- 52:33You know what I mean? He and that's why he's retiring.
- 52:37Everybody agrees he's a champion 1 great race car driver.
- 52:42But I think it's time for Martin and I say that with love and
- 52:46compassion there. He's still he said QuickTime.
- 52:50He started on the front row pole.
- 52:52You know what I mean? But it's like here's like
- 52:55brother Rusty said, he said, Herm, I got tired of living
- 53:00inside that circle comes a point where you get to be of age and
- 53:05listen, it it looks like 2311, you know, as of right now, it
- 53:11could change. But it looks like Denny Hamlin
- 53:14said we are going to field Martin Truex a car for the
- 53:18Daytona 500 next year. I think Martin Truex is tired of
- 53:22living in this motorhome inside that racetrack.
- 53:26I think he's just tired. But what a great career.
- 53:29And you don't have to be rapid on this one.
- 53:32How about just some thoughts on the the late, great Bobby
- 53:34Allison? And how about at the end of his
- 53:36life, when he was, when he was still alive, getting that 85th
- 53:40win? Yeah, listen, I got to tell the
- 53:46truth. Bobby Allison was so close to
- 53:51our family, it was ridiculous. Here's why we threw a newspaper
- 53:57route here up in Creve Coeur, up where we did the podcast and it
- 54:01was called the The Community Press right there, right there
- 54:04in Creve Coe, up here in Saint Louis.
- 54:06We threw a newspaper out and we passed this house that had this
- 54:10Sears Penske van and it ended up being Rodger 1 of Rodger
- 54:14Penske's main guys, Don Miller, right.
- 54:19So Don Miller introduces our family to Rodger Penske.
- 54:24Well Bobby Allison and Rodger Penske were like that so our
- 54:29obsession with Bobby Allison was real.
- 54:33We worship Bobby Allison Bobby Allison help Rusty Wallace so
- 54:38much it was unbelievable from Bobby Allison used to run used
- 54:42to be the promoter at at at Birmingham AL and would send us
- 54:47tires used tires but here Rusty here's some tires.
- 54:51I'm going to help you Rusty's help Bobby Allison in such
- 54:55tremendous ways and and I I'm done bragging about how close we
- 55:01are to Bobby. But I'm not bragging.
- 55:03I just want to let you know the good that Bobby did now Bobby
- 55:08got roughed up later in life. It was a devastating blow.
- 55:12It was like the Kennedy family. You know, you know all the
- 55:16Kennedys end up getting killed, right?
- 55:18Bobby Kennedy, JFK, then then the sun gets killed in a plane
- 55:24wreck. This is what happened to Bobby
- 55:26Allison. It was a devastating blow.
- 55:28Clifford gets killed up and turns 3 and 4 at Michigan.
- 55:33Then Davy gets killed in the helicopter and then Judy dies.
- 55:37So at the end of Bobby's life, he had nobody except all of us
- 55:43is very sad at the end. And I think NASCAR recognized
- 55:46that. Why it took NASCAR so long to
- 55:50make this this wrong or right. It was unanimous.
- 55:55They awarded Bobby that 85th win to put him against, put him past
- 56:00Darrell Walter because it was the right thing to do.
- 56:03And quickly let me remind everybody what that was about.
- 56:07They this is crazy what I'm going to tell you, but it's
- 56:11it'll quiet everybody up about good times and bad times.
- 56:14Years ago, NASCAR was failing and the car count was so low
- 56:22that they took the just for now times, just for the verbiage.
- 56:26Years ago, NASCAR said we're going to grab the Xfinity Series
- 56:29in the Cup drivers, we're going to put them together.
- 56:32And they did that at Bowman Gray or wherever it was.
- 56:35And Bobby Allison being the great racer, he said I'm going
- 56:39to choose to run an Xfinity car. So back then it was a sportsman
- 56:43car. Back then it was called a
- 56:45sportsman car. It was the Xfinity car and then
- 56:48Grand National was the cup car. Well, Bobby said, well, this is
- 56:51easy. I'm going to run a sportsman
- 56:54car. And he won the cup race.
- 56:56But because it was in a sportsman car, they never gave
- 57:00him the win. But hold on.
- 57:04Tiny Lund, the number 55 Pepsi like 1968 Camaro, badass car it
- 57:11good looking car. Tiny Lund won two races that
- 57:16were the sportsman in the Grand National cars and they gave him
- 57:19Cup wins. They said, oh, Tiny one wins two
- 57:22Cup races and it was the right thing to do.
- 57:24They've known this for years. And, and, and I said it and I'll
- 57:28say it again, some either brother Rusty or Rodger Penske
- 57:33or somebody at NASCAR said, look, this is wrong.
- 57:37Bobby's getting ready to pass away.
- 57:40We got to let the man die in peace, give him his damn win
- 57:43that he deserved. But for some reason they would
- 57:46not give Bobby that win and it was wrong.
- 57:50So Bobby Allison and and listen, Annie Wallace loves everybody.
- 57:59Don't start on me, but I do love everybody.
- 58:02Hey, listen, Darryl Walter wrote me a $5000 check and sponsored
- 58:07my Robbie Benton car. Remember I was doing that fan
- 58:10car. I did it twice, did it up there
- 58:13in Canada and I did it at at Charlotte and we did the fan car
- 58:18a second time. And if you look at the hood of
- 58:20that card said, you know, champion Darryl Waltrip.
- 58:22Darryl Waltrip wrote me a check for $5000 and gave it and I gave
- 58:28it to Robbie Benton. I was cons.
- 58:30All the money I ever found in my life.
- 58:32I'm always giving to these teams so I could race.
- 58:35So I love Darryl Waltrip. OK, But Darryl Waltrip and Davey
- 58:39Alice or Bobby Allison, Excuse me?
- 58:42Darryl Waltrip and Bobby Allison hated each other.
- 58:45It was very sad. But those drivers, in the past,
- 58:49they held massive amount of grudge.
- 58:52And to this day, they, they go to their deathbed hating each
- 58:55other. So Daryl, Daryl LED a much
- 59:01healthier life. Daryl raced longer.
- 59:03His health was good. Poor Bobby got hurt at Phoenix,
- 59:08you know, messed his brain up, lost all his children.
- 59:11So at the end of Bobby's life, it was just devastating.
- 59:15And Daryl Waltrip has lived a beautiful life and celebrated
- 59:20the end of his career on Fox TV and Hall of Fame and
- 59:24dealerships. And Daryl's very wealthy.
- 59:27So as my friends would say, life finds a way of balancing it out.
- 59:33So at the end of Bobby's life, NASCAR finally gave Bobby that
- 59:3985th win that put him past his arch nemesis.
- 59:43You know, I'm joking right now. But don't you know Bobby died
- 59:45smiling. I got that damn Darrell Waltrip.
- 59:51But yeah, we celebrated Bobby just now.
- 59:54And he was a race car driver. He built his own race cars.
- 59:59Back in the day. Bobby would chassis those cars
- 1:00:02himself. That's where Rusty got that
- 1:00:04from. Rusty Wallace is a protege.
- 1:00:09He's a chip off the old block. Rusty Wallace is another Bobby
- 1:00:12Allison. Rusty Wallace is another Larry
- 1:00:15Phillips. Rusty Wallace is another Dick
- 1:00:17Trickle. Those three, those are the big
- 1:00:21three in the Wallace family life cycle.
- 1:00:25Bobby Allison, Larry Phillips, Dick Trickle.
- 1:00:29So thank you, Charlie, for allowing me to do that.
- 1:00:32You set me up. I didn't know it was coming.
- 1:00:35Well said. Let's let's end on that.
- 1:00:36What do you think we're we're over an hour.
- 1:00:38Thanks everybody for watching. We have like 5500 people have
- 1:00:42watched in the last hour. We have 500 and people, 505
- 1:00:46people right now. If you haven't subscribed yet,
- 1:00:49please hit that subscribe button.
- 1:00:50It's free. Hit the like button.
- 1:00:53You got that. Where is it?
- 1:00:55It's hard to get there. 100,000 subscribers.
- 1:00:57We're at 116,000 subscribers right now.
- 1:01:00Thank you. Charlie, we've been gaining like
- 1:01:021000 a week. Why?
- 1:01:05Because first of all, October was our best month ever.
- 1:01:09We did great. I think we added, I can tell you
- 1:01:11right now, I can tell you exactly here we add.
- 1:01:15Thank you, everybody. We've added 4400 subscribers in
- 1:01:18the last 28 days. That's pretty Dang good.
- 1:01:21I thought something was going weird.
- 1:01:23So I think a lot of that is because we're hooked up with
- 1:01:28Dale Junior now and Dirty MO. I think they're putting out a
- 1:01:31lot of our content. And listen, you know it, it was
- 1:01:36it was Dale Junior that called us and said, Herman, you're
- 1:01:40kicking our butts on that YouTube.
- 1:01:42So we found a way to collaborate.
- 1:01:43So thank you everybody. Charlie, you're running the
- 1:01:46show. Thank you for everything you've
- 1:01:48done. Listen, it's been a hell of a
- 1:01:50year, everybody. That's it.
- 1:01:52That's it. The NASCAR race season over.
- 1:01:55But Herman Schrader keep on rolling.
- 1:01:58That's your producer right there, everybody.
- 1:02:00Charlie Marlow, he's going to he's going to be pushing all the
- 1:02:03buttons and then he wraps that show up and he gives it to Dirty
- 1:02:06MO. But Charlie, the show is still
- 1:02:08going to be on Kenny Wallace show right on YouTube.
- 1:02:13The video version will be here on YouTube, the audio version
- 1:02:17will be on Dirty MO Media's podcast feed, the RSS feed.
- 1:02:21And like I said, I think it's going to be 5:00 AM Eastern
- 1:02:25Time. Wednesday will be the first
- 1:02:27episode. And of course, we got to thank
- 1:02:28Jags as well, Kenny Walsh. Jags man, I tell you what, real
- 1:02:34quick everybody, since it's the end of the year, Jags said
- 1:02:38Herman, give me a list of things that you're looking at.
- 1:02:42A sponsor. They called me, I was out in
- 1:02:44Scottsdale, I was at, I was at that big hotel out there.
- 1:02:48But anyway, one morning, check my emails, I said oh gosh, OK.
- 1:02:54So I give him like 4 things and at the very bottom I said
- 1:02:57sponsor, you know, sponsor my dirt car, sponsor my dirt car
- 1:03:03and then YouTube show. And Jake said we want that
- 1:03:07YouTube show. I'm like really?
- 1:03:10But listen, the presidency was won on a podcast.
- 1:03:14There's they're saying Joe Rogan won Trump the election.
- 1:03:18So I think Jake saw something that maybe, I mean, Charlie, you
- 1:03:22saw it, you saw it. You were the one that wanted to
- 1:03:26start this. What did you see in the Elect
- 1:03:29the Electronic World podcast and what did you see?
- 1:03:33Well, you know. As you know, I worked in local
- 1:03:35TV for for 20 years or so and I just think that format doesn't
- 1:03:41make sense anymore, you know, not having a lot of time, the
- 1:03:45time constraints, short clips, right?
- 1:03:48And then so we're talking sports, but you're talking about
- 1:03:50politics. And also just with short clips,
- 1:03:53you can take people out of context, right?
- 1:03:55You can make people look bad with a 22nd clip, 5 second clip,
- 1:03:5915 second clip. I've always thought, not just
- 1:04:02for politics, sports, anybody. You can really get to know
- 1:04:06somebody when they sit down with a Joe Rogan or Theo Von or
- 1:04:09whoever the hell else, or Kenny Wallace for an hour or 90
- 1:04:12minutes or two hours or three hours.
- 1:04:14You get to know that person on a personal level, right?
- 1:04:18So to me, it's easy to clip somebody and you put the the bad
- 1:04:22clip or the good clip and you're like, oh, that's a great person.
- 1:04:25That guy sucks. But then you you hear him talk,
- 1:04:27you watch him talk for two hours.
- 1:04:29You're like, that's a cool dude, man.
- 1:04:31I never liked this guy. Now I like him.
- 1:04:32I'll tell you, I have thought this, every person that I didn't
- 1:04:36like, I'd see some clips of a person, I'd see him on social
- 1:04:39media. I'm like, I don't like that guy.
- 1:04:41Every time I watch that person on a podcast I like them more.
- 1:04:45So this happened with Mark Richards on Kenny Conversation
- 1:04:50that he he runs Rocket chassis. Mark Richards runs Rocket
- 1:04:55Chassis and we did an hour and a half of Kenny conversation and
- 1:05:00all the fans at the dirt racers were like, Oh my God, we never
- 1:05:05liked him. Now we like him.
- 1:05:06So now everybody's been running up to Mark Richards and it was
- 1:05:11Matt James, my souvenir. Thank you, Steven.
- 1:05:15But every Matt James who sells my souvenirs just told me last
- 1:05:18week he set up people are are coming up to Mark Richards at
- 1:05:23the dirt tracks going man, we like you now because we were
- 1:05:27able to watch you on that hour and a half any conversation.
- 1:05:31So I do you think I know we got in, but don't Do you think any
- 1:05:35conversation has allowed people to get to know people way better
- 1:05:40because we interviewed them for an hour and a half?
- 1:05:42100% and not just not just the drivers, because I feel like the
- 1:05:46drivers, people know those guys. They do a lot of media, but
- 1:05:50somebody like Mark Richards, right?
- 1:05:51How about how about all the the media folks?
- 1:05:54The Shannon Spakes, The Caitlin Vincey's?
- 1:05:57Jamie Little. Jamie, the Jamie Littles, you
- 1:06:00see these people on TV, they do a great job, but but do you
- 1:06:02really know about them as a person?
- 1:06:04I think it's those personal stories that come out in the
- 1:06:06podcast and it connects those folks to their fans much better.
- 1:06:12Jamie Little, her mom, raised her.
- 1:06:14She moved to Vegas on her own. She started with the X Games and
- 1:06:19Jamie's our our biggest getter as far as views because she
- 1:06:25started with the X Games. What's he say here, Chris?
- 1:06:29Chris Barrett says podcasts have swayed my view of people.
- 1:06:32Myself listening to DJD and Kenny changed my view of Kyle
- 1:06:37Busch. There's the thing.
- 1:06:38Kyle Busch is always the villain, right?
- 1:06:40But then you watch him and you realize he's a human being and
- 1:06:43he's funny and he's got. Children.
- 1:06:45Yeah, Yeah. All right, Charlie, I guess we
- 1:06:48better get sleep for the the big day tomorrow.
- 1:06:51So you, you got all the the Wi-Fi is good.
- 1:06:53Kenny Schrader and myself are going to do the herm do Herman
- 1:06:57Schrader on our like I'm going to I'm going to be right here
- 1:07:00and you're going to have to Schrader's and get him settled
- 1:07:03away. It's going to look sharp though.
- 1:07:05We already have like a a nice little graphics package and then
- 1:07:09you guys are going to get your briefcases with the mic.
- 1:07:11So that'll be later, but we're going to make it look good.
- 1:07:13Dirty MO Media. They have all the cool graphics
- 1:07:16and everything so it'll look sharp.
- 1:07:18I have it right here, everybody. I already got the format laid
- 1:07:21out. Charlie has helped me with it.
- 1:07:23Kenny Schrader's help me. Let's go over this, Charlie.
- 1:07:26Let's promote it real quick and then we'll end the we got a
- 1:07:30little Jingle, which is really cool.
- 1:07:32Dale Junior did a little bit, but I'm going to say Herman
- 1:07:34Schrader on The Dirty MO media platform from the middle of
- 1:07:38America in St. Louis, MO starts right now.
- 1:07:43Then the Jingle will roll. We're going to do who come up
- 1:07:46with crack, Kenny Schrader. I like that.
- 1:07:48I think that was Tiff, Tiff and Colby from Dirty MO Media.
- 1:07:52They really like that idea to try to get Schrader to laugh.
- 1:07:56OK, so we're going to go through it real quick here, everybody.
- 1:07:59We start to show out with your jokes.
- 1:08:01Did you pick any jokes yet, Charlie?
- 1:08:04I have not picked them yet. I'm going to look, I'm going to
- 1:08:06look after the, you know, I wanted to wait till after the
- 1:08:08race, after we did our live show.
- 1:08:10We'll get the the format and we'll get the topics, we'll get
- 1:08:13the jokes and all that. So you, you the fans send your
- 1:08:16jokes in and I say Joe Bob from Minnesota, OK, there's erman
- 1:08:23let's just say erman thank you erman Herman from Minnesota.
- 1:08:27Here's her joke or his joke. And, and if Schrader laughs.
- 1:08:30So that's the first block. The second block will be what
- 1:08:34did we do over the weekend? Crazy.
- 1:08:36Schrader can't wait to hear that story.
- 1:08:38He rode his trike all the way out to Vegas and all the way
- 1:08:42back through the snow. The third block will be the
- 1:08:45NASCAR hot topics. So we will get into the
- 1:08:48championship. Then we're going to go to dirt
- 1:08:51racing because that's that's it. And then we're going to have our
- 1:08:55dirt, our racers of the week, who was our NASCAR driver of the
- 1:08:58week, dirt Racer of the week, and our local racer of the week.
- 1:09:02Block 5 will be why? That's a fun one.
- 1:09:06Why? We're going to ask Schrader why
- 1:09:09and Schrader's going to go why, you know, and it'll complain
- 1:09:13about something and I will too. The 6th block will be stories
- 1:09:16from the past seven will be Schrader.
- 1:09:19What makes you happy? And he's going to say, Herman,
- 1:09:22what makes you happy #8 will be what makes you mad. 9 will be
- 1:09:28current affairs. Oh God, that's going to get us
- 1:09:31in trouble. 10 Charlie, that's your job.
- 1:09:36Number 10 is trending. What's trending?
- 1:09:40So make sure you remember that I sent, I sent.
- 1:09:42You've been busy. You've been out in California
- 1:09:44with your family. And then the very end, we're
- 1:09:49going to end with life advice that ought to be good.
- 1:09:53So that's what the Herman, that's what Herman Schrader
- 1:09:56built on. We've we've, we've promoted the
- 1:10:01hell out of that show. I think that's.
- 1:10:03Going to be great. Charles in charge.
- 1:10:05It's. Going to be great here.
- 1:10:06Let's end on this though, because this person is a good
- 1:10:08idea for a for a future Kenny conversation.
- 1:10:12It's mega 5O2, says Kenny. When the dust settles, interview
- 1:10:15the pace car driver from today. That would be what?
- 1:10:18Who was it? I don't.
- 1:10:20Know, I think it was it the Bodine, was it Brett Bodine?
- 1:10:23Hey, by the way, let me tell you what I think happened there.
- 1:10:26I think that the pace car driver thought they were going to go
- 1:10:30another lap and come green flag. Well, that wall runs all the way
- 1:10:35around the racetrack so that that's the last chance for the
- 1:10:38past pace car to pull in. We're having fun PMG, we're
- 1:10:44having fun. I'm not a Dick.
- 1:10:48But anyway, I think NASCAR said at the last minute, pull in,
- 1:10:52we're going green. And I believe the pace car
- 1:10:54driver felt like, Oh no, he turned that damn spun it out
- 1:10:58into those barrels. I think that's what happened.
- 1:11:01I don't think it was so much miscommunication is it was a it
- 1:11:06was a quick decision and it made for a good show.
- 1:11:10All right, let's finally end on that Herman Schrader.
- 1:11:13We're taping tomorrow. It's coming out on Wednesday on
- 1:11:17Dirty MO Media and here on YouTube on the Kenny Wallace
- 1:11:20YouTube channel. Thanks for all of you guys for
- 1:11:22watching and liking and subscribing.
- 1:11:25Thank you, Herm. Thank you, Jags.
- 1:11:27I'm Charlie Marlow, we will see you very soon.
- 1:11:33End stream.
