- 0:00Taylor.
- 0:01Oh, what a goal by Peter Taylor.
- 0:20Ah, welcome to team of the 80s.
- 0:22My name is Gary Spencer.
- 0:23Thanks for tuning in.
- 0:24Hope you're doing well out there.
- 0:26Before we get on with this week's show, please, if you can, like comment and subscribe.
- 0:31It really helps the algorithm and it gets me in front of more of you guys, which gives you a chance to give me your opinion.
- 0:40It's all about your opinion, really.
- 0:42I'm just trying to set the scene here.
- 0:44So thanks for tuning in and yeah, if you could do those three things, that would always help the show.
- 0:49Also, one other thing.
- 0:51I sent a teaser out this week about my interview with Andy Gray.
- 0:55Yeah, that Andy Gray.
- 0:56And he's going to be on the show September 22nd in the International break.
- 1:02So really looking forward to dropping that podcast out for you guys.
- 1:06It was a really great chat.
- 1:08I spent two and a half hours with Andy and I've whittled that down to an hour.
- 1:13So that whole hour is going to be a real quality conversation.
- 1:16So, yeah, don't forget to tune into that.
- 1:19Okay, on with the show for this week.
- 1:22Yesterday, Fulham 2, Palace 3.
- 1:25I don't know about you, but I'm very, very happy with the three points.
- 1:30Who wouldn't be?
- 1:31Three points are very hard to get in the Premier League.
- 1:34They're very hard to get in any division, but in the Premier League they're specifically difficult to get.
- 1:40So I'm happy that we got the points.
- 1:43But apart from that, the performance was rough.
- 1:48Very rough.
- 1:50Now I gauge and maybe I'm wrong for doing this.
- 1:55I gauge fans temperature from Twitter and it was a kind of a mixed bag on Twitter.
- 2:04Sometimes I feel that the guys can be a little bit too optimistic and I get it.
- 2:10You know, I get accused of being negative.
- 2:12I'm.
- 2:13I would always counter that with that.
- 2:15I'm not negative, I'm just a little bit realistic.
- 2:18What could we take out of yesterday's game?
- 2:21Well, we got three points and I think that's what we can take out of it.
- 2:25I thought Mitchell did excellent for the first goal, was a great finish.
- 2:29He managed to get in around the back there.
- 2:31Fantastic.
- 2:32The second goal was a comedy and the third goal was also a bit of a comedy, really.
- 2:39I'm just happy that it fell to Chewell because he didn't take a touch.
- 2:44He just didn't really think about it much and put his foot through it and he managed to scuff it in the corner.
- 2:49I guarantee if that had been one of our forwards right now, they'd have taken a touch there and I don't know what would have happened.
- 2:55That's how much faith I have in our forwards right now.
- 3:00Yeah, I get it, Sarah.
- 3:01Matata's not playing, but Mateta's had his problems in.
- 3:05If he was playing.
- 3:06He's been having problems for us and Sar.
- 3:09It's going to take a.
- 3:10A bit of time, I think, for him.
- 3:12I.
- 3:12I've got zero sympathy, by the way, with SA under contract, under a good contract.
- 3:18Very happy to sign it when he needed a substantial contract and for him not to play and for.
- 3:27For Sarge to cover for him and say he's got a groin injury.
- 3:33I think the whole thing stinks, to be honest with you.
- 3:35If it was me, I'd be saying that he isn't injured and I'd be fine in a month's wages and he'd have to do something about it.
- 3:43He'd have to play.
- 3:45Because we do not have that type of talent, particularly the type of team we are, where we run in from deep.
- 3:52We don't have a player like SA and we're paying him.
- 3:57I don't think probably privately that Parish is paying him or he's finding.
- 4:06They just haven't gone public with that because Parish is no mug.
- 4:09He's not going to be paying.
- 4:12I don't.
- 4:12God knows how much sar makes.
- 4:14Maybe 60, 70, 80 grand a week.
- 4:16Ain't paying staff for all this nonsense.
- 4:19I'm sure he's severely pissed off.
- 4:21So, anyway, we need Sar back in the team and we need him in the right frame of mind.
- 4:26Yes, we need Matata in the team also, but, yeah, not because I think he's going to bag us 20 goals.
- 4:31He's just more of a nuisance than Strand Larson is.
- 4:35Strand Larson got a lot of good reviews yesterday on Twitter for the second half.
- 4:40They felt that a lot of people felt that he changed the game.
- 4:43I'm not so sure that he changed the game.
- 4:45There was a lot of things that were going up to Strand Larson that weren't sticking, but changed the game.
- 4:51Now, I think that's a bit.
- 4:53That's a bit optimistic.
- 4:54I don't think he changed the game at all.
- 4:56He was definitely a better option than Eddie.
- 4:58Ed.
- 4:59Eddie's obviously really struggling with his confidence right now, but I don't think Strand Larsen changed the game.
- 5:05Happy for Ben Chilwell.
- 5:07I wasn't overly enthused that he came back to the club.
- 5:11I mean, he has.
- 5:12He hasn't really pulled up any trees since Leicester didn't do well, at Chelsea, but he seems to be a very likable lad.
- 5:20He seems to be very popular in the dressing room and let's face it, it was a good finish and he won us the game.
- 5:25So I was happy for Ben Chilwell.
- 5:29Back to the fans.
- 5:31Yeah, please follow me.
- 5:33If you.
- 5:33If you don't already, please follow me on Twitter, because you can debate this with me or Instagram, or Tick Tock, but going back to the fans, they.
- 5:43They love to get.
- 5:44They love to romanticize.
- 5:46There's a couple of statements put out this week.
- 5:48One by, well, two.
- 5:49One by Daniel Munoz and his wife and the other one by Devening, like, trust me, I.
- 5:59As we all know, Daniel Munis can't put two words together in English, so he didn't make that statement and neither did his wife.
- 6:05It's put out by the PR company and it's all very well and it's very easy to say once you've got your move and you've got away.
- 6:12Very easy to say, our Crystal palace, and I'm an Eagle.
- 6:15Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.
- 6:16Who cares?
- 6:17Who cares?
- 6:18Just get on and play with your new team.
- 6:21Take your money.
- 6:21Gunplay with your new team.
- 6:23You did well for us.
- 6:24Thank you very much.
- 6:24But all that other.
- 6:26It's just romanticism.
- 6:28They don't care.
- 6:29Diveni maybe a little bit different because he's not so.
- 6:34He's not so dyed in the wall yet.
- 6:37And I'm sure he's very happy to be at Stoke, but again, you know, these players aren't sitting at home thinking, oh, God, what shall I write to the fans?
- 6:43Because they mean so much to me, they're just getting somebody else to do it.
- 6:47So everything these days is a PR exercise, trust me.
- 6:50So let's not get too carried away with what we see from statements from players.
- 6:55But, yeah, going back to the fans on the.
- 6:58Being optimistic, pessimistic, cynical, I.
- 7:03I want us to do better.
- 7:04I want us to do a lot better.
- 7:06I don't think we're.
- 7:07I don't think we're gelling at all.
- 7:08I don't really see any patterns of play.
- 7:12People rave about Wharton.
- 7:14I mean, Tuku was there yesterday.
- 7:16Again, he's not going to be picking Morton anytime soon.
- 7:19Trust me.
- 7:20If.
- 7:20When you're talking about players and you're talking about, well, a lot of palace players are Walton's world class.
- 7:26Is he dominating games?
- 7:27Is Walton saying, here, give me the ball, let me just knock it over there and lock it here and let me just.
- 7:32He's not doing that.
- 7:33He's not doing that.
- 7:34You know what?
- 7:35I tell you who does it more.
- 7:36Hughes does it.
- 7:37More use gets in there.
- 7:39You see him pop up all the time.
- 7:41He's getting it.
- 7:42He's taking responsibility.
- 7:43He.
- 7:43Yeah, I get it.
- 7:44He's not doing anything spectacular with the ball.
- 7:47He's just knocking it off to give it to somebody that can play.
- 7:50But at least he's saying, I'll get it, I'll get it.
- 7:53Give it to me, I'll take care of it.
- 7:55Walton's not doing that.
- 7:56Walton's involved when he's involved.
- 7:58But count his touches in the game and have a look what he did yesterday because his first touch.
- 8:05I've seen a baby elephant with a better first touch yesterday wasn't good.
- 8:10And he needs to.
- 8:11He needs to do a lot, lot better.
- 8:14Walton, a lot, lot better.
- 8:16Looking forward to tonight's game because this will be going out Tuesday morning.
- 8:21You know what?
- 8:22I actually fancy us for the League cup this year.
- 8:24I fancy us.
- 8:26There's not many rounds.
- 8:28We could get some luck with the draw.
- 8:31I fancy us.
- 8:33I think we'll put out strong sides because Sarge has got to play the team and get used to the system and all the things.
- 8:39And I think I fancy it's way more in the League cup than I do in the Europa League, put it that way.
- 8:45I think we're going to get hammered in the Europa League and the way we're playing at the moment, like I said in a couple of weeks ago when the season started, we're going to finish a lot closer to
- 8:56the bottom than we are the top.
- 8:58And I got slaughter for that at the time and I think now a few fans are beginning to realize what I meant.
- 9:02So, yeah, optimistic about League cup and we haven't done one League cup for a long, long time, have we?
- 9:07I can't even remember when.
- 9:09And yeah, so that's it from me.
- 9:12Don't forget, I've got Andy Gray coming up in the international break.
- 9:16That'd be a great one.
- 9:17And let's hope we win in tonight against Middlesbrough.
- 9:21I'm sure.
- 9:22Well, I fancy is to do it and please, if you don't already follow me on Instagram, Tick tock, Twitter X and like.
- 9:32Comment and subscribe.
- 9:33Thanks very much for your time and I'll see you soon.
