- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- 0:05Speaker 2: The Rex was not chasing the Jeep. Murray! Murray, you there?
- 0:10Speaker 2: You love sandwiches, huh? Let's go to 80.
- 0:12Speaker 3: His name is Bo. Wow.
- 0:16Speaker 2: That's prime time, baby. I had a crush on Betty Rubble.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went
- 0:22Speaker 1: to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black.
- 0:25Speaker 2: He cost them the game last night. Although they won
- 0:28Speaker 2: the game. You're listening to Stugatz & Company.
- 0:32Speaker 1: We start today with Lucy Rodin, host of the College
- 0:35Speaker 1: Football Happy Hour, with our friend Jessica Smetana.
- 0:38Speaker 2: How's the show going, Lucy?
- 0:40Speaker 4: It's going great. I don't know if they can see
- 0:42Speaker 4: the Zoom name, but I'm logging to Jess's Zoom.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I don't think they can see the Zoom name. Why
- 0:48Speaker 1: are you logged on to Jess's Zoom?
- 0:50Speaker 2: What's going on there?
- 0:52Speaker 4: We record the podcast on her Zoom, and... I just
- 0:56Speaker 4: have never logged out of it. And it's been embarrassing
- 0:58Speaker 4: because I've had meetings where I have to pop in
- 1:00Speaker 4: and be like, sorry, not Jessica, Lucy here.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:03Speaker 1: How was it to have college football back in your life?
- 1:05Speaker 1: You're exhausted already.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I can see it. We're just in week one. You're exhausted.
- 1:10Speaker 2: But how was it to have your favorite sport back
- 1:12Speaker 2: in your life?
- 1:14Speaker 4: It was awesome. And I, obviously you guys know, I
- 1:17Speaker 4: did not go into this weekend thinking like, this is
- 1:19Speaker 4: going to be a terrible slate like everybody else. I
- 1:21Speaker 4: knew we would get something funky and weird and gross.
- 1:24Speaker 4: And we certainly did. And so when you have everything from, yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 4: a bunch of blowouts to Oregon almost losing their game,
- 1:31Speaker 4: the just disgustingness that happened in Ann Arbor to Florida
- 1:35Speaker 4: State not being able to get their stadium lights to
- 1:37Speaker 4: work for two hours. Like that's my sport. That is
- 1:40Speaker 4: the most like college football span of time there could
- 1:44Speaker 4: possibly be. So it gave me everything I needed. Week
- 1:48Speaker 4: two looks really good. It looks a little less good
- 1:50Speaker 4: as it did like a couple months ago, but I'm very,
- 1:52Speaker 4: very excited for this weekend. It's good to be back.
- 1:55Speaker 4: But I did like have the sort of reality check
- 1:58Speaker 4: this morning where I was like, oh, man, I'm not
- 2:00Speaker 4: going to have a day off till January. Like this
- 2:02Speaker 4: is every day.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Lucy, I'm reeling right now because I was expecting that
- 2:06Speaker 5: Florida State game to start at 730. It starts eventually
- 2:09Speaker 5: at 9 p.m.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Yep.
- 2:11Speaker 5: First off, terrible game. Florida State has fallen off so
- 2:14Speaker 5: far where they're 3-14 now in their last 17 ACC games.
- 2:18Speaker 2: It's hard to say that was a terrible game, Taylor.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I mean.
- 2:22Speaker 5: Ashton Daniels, it is hard to replace Thomas Castellanos at
- 2:26Speaker 5: quarterback and somehow downgrade. And that's exactly what Florida State
- 2:30Speaker 5: did with Ashton Daniels. He is supposed to be this
- 2:32Speaker 5: fast quarterback, but everything he does looks like he's moving
- 2:36Speaker 5: in slow motion.
- 2:39Speaker 4: It's like only... It's just the most, first of all,
- 2:43Speaker 4: only Florida State would not be able to just turn
- 2:45Speaker 4: the stadium on. That would be the problem for them. Second,
- 2:49Speaker 4: SMU turned the ball over four times and Florida State
- 2:52Speaker 4: was like, I'm really good with that. Don't even worry
- 2:54Speaker 4: about it. We will let you be fine with your mistakes.
- 2:57Speaker 4: We're not going to get in your face because of that.
- 2:59Speaker 4: We don't want to be rude. This game should have
- 3:03Speaker 4: been a blowout, but SMU just kept turning the ball
- 3:05Speaker 4: over and they just kept doing dumb stuff. And then
- 3:07Speaker 4: Florida State was like, well, if you're doing dumb stuff,
- 3:09Speaker 4: what if we did even more dumb stuff? And then
- 3:12Speaker 4: that was just the entire experience. It was very funny
- 3:15Speaker 4: where every time, like, Mike Norvell would call a timeout
- 3:17Speaker 4: or they'd show him on the jumbotron, you could just
- 3:19Speaker 4: hear the crowd boo, like, as loud as they possibly could. So, like,
- 3:23Speaker 4: congrats on the sold-out crowd, but sorry about everything else.
- 3:27Speaker 5: Lucy, you mentioned SMU having four turnovers. Teams that were
- 3:31Speaker 5: minus four in the turnover margin last season went 1-40
- 3:37Speaker 5: last year, and Florida State somehow found a way to
- 3:40Speaker 5: lose that game. Stu, the power goes out. They're trying
- 3:44Speaker 5: to figure out how to play this game. Perfect representation
- 3:49Speaker 5: of Florida State in 2026. Perfect representation in Jim Phillips'
- 3:54Speaker 5: ACC in 2026. They kicked off that game without full
- 3:59Speaker 5: stadium lights, without PA speakers, without ref mics, without sideline iPads,
- 4:05Speaker 5: without coach-to-player communications, without a scoreboard, and without the ability
- 4:10Speaker 5: to go to instant replay.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Football back when Golik played. Yep. Hand in the dirt football.
- 4:17Speaker 2: We got back to basics. I enjoyed it for a half.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Did you not? I mean, Lucy, did you enjoy it
- 4:23Speaker 2: or no? I was laughing at it.
- 4:24Speaker 4: It's funny. I, I, so it was embarrassing because normally
- 4:29Speaker 4: these like college football game days, I spend them alone.
- 4:32Speaker 4: I got too much shit to do. I can't be entertaining.
- 4:34Speaker 4: But since this was like the one like singular game,
- 4:37Speaker 4: I texted a buddy. I said, do you want to
- 4:39Speaker 4: come watch the Florida state game with me? It'll be fun.
- 4:41Speaker 4: I swear. And then we're sitting at a bar with
- 4:44Speaker 4: just B roll shots of the stadium when the lights
- 4:47Speaker 4: were on for an hour and a half. And I
- 4:49Speaker 4: was like, I'm so sorry, dude. It's like never happens.
- 4:52Speaker 4: I swear. That's like, I mean, it happens to Florida State,
- 4:55Speaker 4: but this like really does not happen that often. And
- 4:57Speaker 4: so we came back to my apartment, watched the first half.
- 5:00Speaker 4: I enjoyed it because it was stupid. Like I enjoyed
- 5:02Speaker 4: it because SMU kept doing dumb stuff and Florida State
- 5:06Speaker 4: just couldn't do anything with the dumb stuff. And Florida
- 5:09Speaker 4: State's interesting. They have good receivers. They have a great
- 5:12Speaker 4: running back room. They just don't have anything else and
- 5:14Speaker 4: they have no plan. And I saw this tweet that
- 5:16Speaker 4: was perfect that was like, Well, Florida State's got the
- 5:19Speaker 4: best shot they can right now because Mike Norvell can't
- 5:21Speaker 4: talk to the players. Like, this is their best opportunity.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I think there was a point last night where Norvell
- 5:27Speaker 1: went for the challenge flag and realized we don't have–
- 5:29Speaker 1: nothing's working.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I can't challenge the play. Yes, I like that. Yes.
- 5:33Speaker 2: No more challenges.
- 5:34Speaker 4: It is honestly a good system for Florida State. It's
- 5:37Speaker 4: take as much decision-making power that he has out of
- 5:40Speaker 4: his hands. Like they should just turn the power off
- 5:42Speaker 4: for every single day.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I smell a conspiracy theory.
- 5:45Speaker 6: Yes.
- 5:46Speaker 3: I smell somebody in Florida State's like, hey, I think
- 5:49Speaker 3: we can fix this. Just flip this switch.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Apparently it was like a college kid crashed into some
- 5:56Speaker 4: like power thing and it had been broken for like
- 5:59Speaker 4: a day. Right. Someone's going to have to do that again.
- 6:04Speaker 5: At the end of the game, I was begging for
- 6:06Speaker 5: another power outage to stop having to watch this Florida
- 6:09Speaker 5: State offense and Ashton Daniels try to go down the field. Lucy,
- 6:13Speaker 5: we're like two years removed away from this FSU team
- 6:17Speaker 5: being a 13-0 team, getting left out of the playoffs
- 6:20Speaker 5: when Travis gets hurt at the quarterback position. How do
- 6:24Speaker 5: you kind of make sense of how quickly they've fallen
- 6:26Speaker 5: off a cliff as a program?
- 6:28Speaker 4: It was, that year was sort of like a just
- 6:31Speaker 4: kind of perfect storm of they had one of those
- 6:34Speaker 4: really unique transfer portal halls. But if you look at
- 6:38Speaker 4: how Florida State was building, it is not shocking now,
- 6:43Speaker 4: like 2020, where Mike Norvell was like not recruiting well.
- 6:48Speaker 4: They seem to have a lot of dysfunction with coaches
- 6:50Speaker 4: turnover and stuff like that, like They were so reliant
- 6:53Speaker 4: on the portal without any sort of backup plan that
- 6:56Speaker 4: when it all went to hell, they had no other options.
- 7:00Speaker 4: And so the foundation was kind of there. They just
- 7:03Speaker 4: had such an insane year with Jordan Travis, with Jared Verse,
- 7:08Speaker 4: with this very talented roster where they are able to
- 7:12Speaker 4: go 13-0. But- You look at how they got there
- 7:16Speaker 4: and it was just kind of fluky. And so also
- 7:19Speaker 4: part of it is like I think TCU and Florida State,
- 7:22Speaker 4: two teams we look at now, have been like, how
- 7:24Speaker 4: did it fall so quickly? I honestly think Georgia killed them.
- 7:28Speaker 4: I think Georgia is a little bit responsible. Like have
- 7:31Speaker 4: you ever been beat so bad that it takes years
- 7:33Speaker 4: to recover? I think that is what's happened to Florida
- 7:36Speaker 4: State and TCU.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Go ahead, Mikey.
- 7:41Speaker 6: Lucy, today the news came out that the SEC filed
- 7:44Speaker 6: an amendment and essentially they're asking if they can kick
- 7:48Speaker 6: LSU out of the SEC if it gets that far.
- 7:53Speaker 3: How far is this going to go, Lucy? Where do
- 7:55Speaker 3: you see this ending?
- 7:57Speaker 2: With a national championship.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I don't think they're going to kick LSU out of
- 8:03Speaker 4: the SEC. What this seems is like a power play
- 8:05Speaker 4: right now. The SEC is very angry that they cannot
- 8:08Speaker 4: enforce their own rules and The sort of conversation of
- 8:11Speaker 4: the SEC breaking away from the rest of college football
- 8:14Speaker 4: hasn't necessarily been about losing to the Big Ten and,
- 8:17Speaker 4: you know, well, they haven't been in national championship games,
- 8:19Speaker 4: but whatever. It's more of like, hey, we don't have
- 8:22Speaker 4: any ability to enforce our own rules right now, and
- 8:25Speaker 4: that's what we want. So this is basically like a
- 8:28Speaker 4: power move to LSU to be like, hey, we have
- 8:30Speaker 4: the power to kick you out, and we just wanted
- 8:32Speaker 4: you to keep that in mind. Because Lane Kiffin didn't
- 8:34Speaker 4: add any professional players to the Clemson lineup. Like, he
- 8:38Speaker 4: listened that time. But I do think it's important to
- 8:40Speaker 4: note that it is not just Lane Kiffin. The soccer
- 8:43Speaker 4: team added professional players. Will Wade will not sleep until
- 8:46Speaker 4: he has a whole, he needs the Lakers G team.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Like that is his goal in life. And so I
- 8:52Speaker 4: don't think they'll kick them out. I think LSU, my
- 8:55Speaker 4: whole thing is like, I'm more worried about Will Wade
- 8:57Speaker 4: than Lane Kiffin because like Lane Kiffin back down, Will
- 9:00Speaker 4: Wade is just like a real liability. You really don't know.
- 9:03Speaker 2: What he's going to do.
- 9:04Speaker 4: He might just say, screw it. And so I don't
- 9:06Speaker 4: think they're going to kick LSU out, but This is
- 9:08Speaker 4: a move to be like, hey, you have to listen
- 9:11Speaker 4: to the rules if you're in this conference, which I
- 9:13Speaker 4: think is fair.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Yep.
- 9:14Speaker 2: It's one week. It's early. Granted.
- 9:16Speaker 1: But Taylor thinks that LSU is the best college football
- 9:18Speaker 1: team of all time.
- 9:19Speaker 2: You agree?
- 9:20Speaker 4: Oh, my God. Taylor. Breathe.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Sam Leavitt.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I like Sam Leavitt. He loves Sam Leavitt. He does.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I mean, it's hard not to like him.
- 9:27Speaker 4: You're back in Florida and immediately a Florida man. That's crazy.
- 9:30Speaker 4: You have to stop. You can't be saying crazy stuff
- 9:32Speaker 4: like that.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Lucy, can the SEC stop with this whole boo-hoo LSU act?
- 9:37Speaker 5: They need Lane Kiffin. They need LSU to be a
- 9:41Speaker 5: national powerhouse. And then my only complaint with this whole
- 9:44Speaker 5: situation with Lane Kiffin is Is Lane Kiffin kind of
- 9:47Speaker 5: plays both sides where he's like, why doesn't everybody like me?
- 9:51Speaker 5: But then he also does things where you're like, man,
- 9:52Speaker 5: I really don't like Lane Kiffin. Like after the game,
- 9:55Speaker 5: when he's talking about Clemson, he was like, our scout
- 9:57Speaker 5: team scored more against us. I was like, man, Lane, Yeah,
- 9:50Speaker 5: he doesn't care.
- 10:12Speaker 4: He's like an undiagnosed narcissist. Like I think he genuinely
- 10:15Speaker 4: has a personality disorder and I'm cool with that. Like
- 10:19Speaker 4: I look at Lane Kiffin as something that we need.
- 10:21Speaker 4: I don't view Lane Kiffin as he is like college
- 10:24Speaker 4: football needs a villain and he plays that role better
- 10:26Speaker 4: than anybody. But I genuinely think it's a personality disorder.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Like I really do. Did you hear the, the leaks
- 10:33Speaker 4: like halftime audio of his speech he gave? It was
- 10:36Speaker 4: just like, dog, you're up by 30 right now. This
- 10:40Speaker 4: is insane. They're like, he's just screaming that everybody hates
- 10:43Speaker 4: us and we have to prove that they should hate us.
- 10:45Speaker 4: And you're like, they already do. I don't know what
- 10:48Speaker 4: we're trying to do here. It's one of those things
- 10:51Speaker 4: where college football needs Lane. Lane needs college football. I'm
- 10:55Speaker 4: just going to let him live his life. I'm grateful
- 10:57Speaker 4: for the entertainment. And I do think the SEC... needs LSU,
- 11:02Speaker 4: but I am not willing to go as far as
- 11:04Speaker 4: saying they're the greatest college football team of all time
- 11:06Speaker 4: because I don't think Clemson is particularly good.
- 11:08Speaker 2: It's early. He's reserved. You know, he could change his opinion,
- 11:11Speaker 2: but just right now, yes. We all have bad takes.
- 11:16Speaker 2: This might be a good take. We'll see. We'll see
- 11:18Speaker 2: what happens.
- 11:18Speaker 5: I'm still reeling off my Oklahoma State is going to
- 11:21Speaker 5: be a good team take.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Such a terrible take I have.
- 11:24Speaker 4: I thought Michigan was going.
- 11:25Speaker 1: To be good.
- 11:25Speaker 4: I'm, like, so embarrassed.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:27Speaker 2: You went to Missouri this weekend for the home opener.
- 11:29Speaker 2: How was that?
- 11:31Speaker 4: It was cool. It was, like, hot as Hades. So,
- 11:34Speaker 4: to be honest, I left after the first quarter. But
- 11:37Speaker 4: here's the thing. I want to give credit to Mizzou.
- 11:41Speaker 4: I had the best ice cream I've ever had in
- 11:42Speaker 4: my life there.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Really?
- 11:44Speaker 4: Bucks ice cream. Mizzou has an ag school, so they
- 11:48Speaker 4: have a little spot where– and a lot of schools
- 11:50Speaker 4: have stuff like this– where they have an ice cream
- 11:53Speaker 4: shop that's just straight cow to– facility to you know
- 11:58Speaker 4: consumer and so it's like operated by the students i
- 12:02Speaker 4: think and it was the best ice cream i've ever
- 12:04Speaker 4: had the tiger stripe at bucks is phenomenal like i
- 12:07Speaker 4: don't even know the texture was perfect it was phenomenal
- 12:11Speaker 4: there are like other schools that have this like nc
- 12:12Speaker 4: state has it taylor i don't know if you ever
- 12:14Speaker 4: went they have it though in like a like a
- 12:16Speaker 4: cow pasture so it smells like like manure and so
- 12:20Speaker 4: it's not as like enjoyable of an experience.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Yeah Taylor went to Death Valley this weekend for the
- 12:26Speaker 1: first time.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Have you been to Death Valley? You've been to Death Valley, right?
- 12:29Speaker 3: No?
- 12:29Speaker 4: I've been to it, yep. Been twice.
- 12:31Speaker 2: I went with Lucy. Oh, that's right.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:34Speaker 2: He went with me. Yeah. I had no idea. I
- 12:37Speaker 2: asked her what other games she went to this weekend.
- 12:39Speaker 2: She said just Missouri.
- 12:40Speaker 5: No, I've been to Baton Rouge before.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Oh, that's right.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Okay.
- 12:43Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 12:43Speaker 3: I got confused.
- 12:44Speaker 2: I mean my bad.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Because Jesus. She said it three times.
- 12:49Speaker 5: One of the things you'll notice every time.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I wasn't listening. All three times.
- 12:52Speaker 5: When LSU plays home games, they'll put up a stat
- 12:55Speaker 5: like LSU at night games is is like 40-2 their
- 12:59Speaker 5: last 42 games. And Lucy was at both losses.
- 13:03Speaker 1: You know what, Mikey? I should have used better judgment there.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I just went to Lucy or Goosey.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I'm terrible.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Let's get to Lucy or Goosey. Do you have something
- 13:22Speaker 1: for Lucy or Goosey? Some props here?
- 13:24Speaker 2: Lucy is this guy.
- 13:25Speaker 5: Yes.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Taylor Lindsay gave this to me.
- 13:29Speaker 6: Okay.
- 13:31Speaker 4: And then Goosey is going to be this Mizzou button.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Okay.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Because I haven't hung it up yet.
- 13:38Speaker 2: You left after the first quarter.
- 13:41Speaker 4: It was like 95 degrees, and they were up by 20.
- 13:45Speaker 4: It was against Arkansas Pine Bluff. Like, if anybody wants
- 13:48Speaker 4: to fight me on that.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Yes, no.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Sheryl Crow wasn't singing anything else.
- 13:51Speaker 2: She was.
- 13:52Speaker 4: I would have stayed.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Golden Lions.
- 13:55Speaker 2: The Golden Lions. Anyway.
- 13:58Speaker 3: I said that on air. Damn you.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Lucy or Goosey?
- 14:04Speaker 1: Dabo Swinney will not survive this season as the head
- 14:08Speaker 1: coach of Clemson.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Goosey. Do you guys know how much his buyout is?
- 14:14Speaker 2: How much?
- 14:15Speaker 4: $ 57 million.
- 14:18Speaker 3: What's that? It's Norvell money.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Clemson does not have $ 57 million. I'm telling you that
- 14:25Speaker 4: right now. Clemson fans are, like, very loud. Like, we're
- 14:28Speaker 4: not winning because we don't have money. So they are
- 14:31Speaker 4: not firing Dempo. They do not have the money to
- 14:33Speaker 4: fire him.
- 14:34Speaker 2: All right. Lucy, you're goosey. Ohio State, Texas. I care
- 14:39Speaker 2: about it. But it really doesn't matter because both teams
- 14:41Speaker 2: are making the playoffs.
- 14:44Speaker 4: I'm going to go Goosey because you probably said that
- 14:48Speaker 4: last year, and then Texas.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Didn't make the playoffs.
- 14:51Speaker 3: I did.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Yes, I asked you the same question. There we go.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Yes.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Lucy or Goosey, Malachi Toney is the best player in
- 14:58Speaker 1: college football.
- 15:01Speaker 4: I think I want to go Lucy on this one,
- 15:05Speaker 4: and it makes me sick to my stomach because you
- 15:06Speaker 4: guys know I'm a Miami hater. I was watching that
- 15:09Speaker 4: Stanford game. I was like, oh, my God, it's going
- 15:10Speaker 4: to be a long year for me. This is just really,
- 15:13Speaker 4: he is unreal. I'd like to see how Jeremiah Smith
- 15:16Speaker 4: looked very good against Ball State. And obviously Stanford, I
- 15:20Speaker 4: can't say obviously Stanford's better than Ball State. Like, we
- 15:22Speaker 4: can't really say that. But Texas this weekend, we'll get
- 15:26Speaker 4: to see Jeremiah Smith. I would have to pick, if
- 15:27Speaker 4: I picked the three best players in college football right now,
- 15:30Speaker 4: Malachi Toney, Jeremiah Smith, and Trinidad Chambliss.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Lucy or Goosey?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Keelan Russell is going to save Kaylin DeBoer's job at Alabama.
- 15:43Speaker 4: I'm going to go goosey on that. I still have
- 15:47Speaker 4: concerns about Alabama watching that ECU game. A lot of
- 15:51Speaker 4: people have that as an upset. That obviously did not happen.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Ryan Coleman Williams still can't catch anything, which that's a
- 15:57Speaker 4: big concern for them. I don't feel confident in their
- 16:00Speaker 4: run game. I thought their offensive line looked a little
- 16:02Speaker 4: bit better, but against an ECU defense. No discredit to ECU.
- 16:06Speaker 4: They're one of the better G6 teams, but I just
- 16:09Speaker 4: don't have enough faith. I thought the choice for Keelan
- 16:11Speaker 4: Russell over Austin Mack was the right choice, but I
- 16:15Speaker 4: still think that I don't have Alabama making the playoff
- 16:18Speaker 4: this year, and I think that's enough that the fans
- 16:20Speaker 4: are going to be really pissed.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Lucy or Goosey, Oregon is overrated. Ooh, I like that.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Okay, you guys, I'm going to go Goosey. Maybe that's
- 16:32Speaker 4: because I picked Oregon to win the national championship, and
- 16:34Speaker 4: I just don't want to be embarrassed because I've been
- 16:36Speaker 4: embarrassed a lot recently. But I don't look at the
- 16:39Speaker 4: Boise State game as– I didn't look at that as like, oh,
- 16:42Speaker 4: my God, the way I looked at the Michigan game
- 16:45Speaker 4: because Dante Moore looked great. Their defense needs to spruce
- 16:48Speaker 4: some things up. That's a fantastic Boise State team. Maddox
- 16:51Speaker 4: Madsen had the game of his life there. Everything worked
- 16:54Speaker 4: right for Boise State. and Oregon just did some kind
- 16:56Speaker 4: of stupid stuff on special teams, and they just were
- 16:59Speaker 4: a little bit sloppy, where I still think Oregon is
- 17:02Speaker 4: very good, and I think that game helps them more
- 17:04Speaker 4: than playing Portland State would have, which they do play
- 17:07Speaker 4: Portland State this year. And so I still think Oregon
- 17:11Speaker 4: is very, very good, and I think they'll benefit in
- 17:13Speaker 4: the long run from playing Boise State, who right now
- 17:15Speaker 4: looks like the clear frontrunner to make the playoff. Like,
- 17:17Speaker 4: that was a playoff game.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Lucy or Goosey, Michigan had no business celebrating that victory.
- 17:23Speaker 4: I could not Lucy this harder. I'm telling you right now, Stu,
- 17:28Speaker 4: if I met someone and they're like, yeah, I stormed
- 17:31Speaker 4: the field against Western Michigan. That's enough of a red
- 17:33Speaker 4: flag that I'd like. This is not. We can't be friends.
- 17:36Speaker 4: We can't. You are like two. Like, we're not compatible. Like, genuinely,
- 17:41Speaker 4: it is the biggest ick in the world. That was embarrassing.
- 17:45Speaker 4: You're supposed to be in good school. Get off the field.
- 17:48Speaker 4: And by the way, you guys are so worried about it.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Everyone being mad at Michigan. You need to be worried
- 17:52Speaker 4: about Bryce Underwood. That needs to be your top concern
- 17:54Speaker 4: right now. Not how everybody's angry at you. Your quarterback
- 17:57Speaker 4: is awful.
- 17:58Speaker 5: You spent $ 10 million.
- 17:59Speaker 2: She's not done.
- 17:59Speaker 5: Yeah. It felt like Kyle Whittingham didn't want to celebrate
- 18:04Speaker 5: that game.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Well, he didn't know.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Why would he?
- 18:06Speaker 3: Why would you? He's better.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Kyle Whittingham had the most like safe by the bell.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Look at the break the fourth wall and be like,
- 18:14Speaker 4: how did I get here? Look during that entire game.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Like every time they panned to him, it was like,
- 18:20Speaker 4: and then the like hand over the face. He just
- 18:22Speaker 4: looked miserable. He, he was very much like could have
- 18:25Speaker 4: retired like this. This could have been over. I could
- 18:27Speaker 4: have had a statue at Utah. It, They shouldn't have
- 18:30Speaker 4: celebrated that game. They played terrible. They shouldn't have won
- 18:32Speaker 4: that game. I still don't understand. This is the first
- 18:35Speaker 4: time in my life I see how people get really
- 18:37Speaker 4: deep into crazy conspiracy theories and stuff like that because
- 18:41Speaker 4: the Big Ten tried to explain it to me and
- 18:43Speaker 4: they had evidence and I just was like, no, I
- 18:44Speaker 4: don't believe it. That's the first time. This was the
- 18:48Speaker 4: first time in my life I've been like, okay, I
- 18:49Speaker 4: see how QAnon could have happened. I get it because
- 18:52Speaker 4: I don't believe it. I think it's made up. What
- 18:54Speaker 4: do you mean there's a secret clock? Where's the secret
- 18:56Speaker 4: clock at? Let me see it.
- 18:58Speaker 5: The football gods will not allow Michigan to beat Oklahoma
- 19:02Speaker 5: this week. Lucy or Goosey?
- 19:05Speaker 4: I'm going to go Goosey on this. I think I'm
- 19:07Speaker 4: very high on Oklahoma this year. I really think they're very,
- 19:11Speaker 4: very good. I just know that like the way the
- 19:13Speaker 4: universe works is like Michigan is going to look really
- 19:16Speaker 4: good in that game or something like it's just going
- 19:19Speaker 4: to be one of those things that it's done purposely
- 19:21Speaker 4: despite me. where Michigan will come out and look like
- 19:24Speaker 4: the best team in the world or something. I'm hoping
- 19:26Speaker 4: I'm wrong because I think Bryce Underwood is very bad
- 19:28Speaker 4: and I think Oklahoma's defense is very, very good. But
- 19:30Speaker 4: I won't say it's like a lock right now. I
- 19:33Speaker 4: think right now Oklahoma's a five and a half point favorite.
- 19:36Speaker 4: So Vegas is still a little iffy on it too.
- 19:40Speaker 5: Iowa has an offense.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Lucy or Goosey?
- 19:42Speaker 1: Wow.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 19:43Speaker 4: Yes.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Wow.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Lucy. So your situation, your situation. Do we have a quarterback?
- 19:52Speaker 4: I don't know. Do we have a receiver? Heck yeah,
- 19:55Speaker 4: we do. Tony Diaz, the UT Rio Grande Valley transfer,
- 20:01Speaker 4: has already changed my life. Stu, he turned down Alabama.
- 20:06Speaker 4: He said, I'd rather go to Iowa. And was that
- 20:09Speaker 4: a bad decision? Potentially.
- 20:10Speaker 2: No, it was.
- 20:11Speaker 1: He looked awesome.
- 20:15Speaker 4: Where Iowa is still doing this silly thing where they
- 20:18Speaker 4: are switching out quarterbacks every three drives. And the one
- 20:23Speaker 4: that looks like Morgan Wallen is doing a lot worse,
- 20:25Speaker 4: even though he's who I wanted. And then the tall
- 20:27Speaker 4: one that doesn't look like Morgan Wallen is doing better.
- 20:30Speaker 4: And so... I don't know if they're going to keep
- 20:32Speaker 4: doing that against Iowa State. I don't really love either
- 20:36Speaker 4: of them at this point, but the offensive line looked phenomenal.
- 20:39Speaker 4: Northern Illinois is insanely bad, one of the worst football
- 20:42Speaker 4: teams I've ever seen, so I'm not trying to put
- 20:43Speaker 4: too much weight into it. But Iowa has a receiver
- 20:46Speaker 4: for the first time in forever. and my life is on, like,
- 20:51Speaker 4: the sun is shining brighter. I'm hearing the birds in
- 20:53Speaker 4: the morning, and they just keep singing Tony Diaz, Tony Diaz.
- 20:56Speaker 4: I love him so much.
- 20:57Speaker 2: He needs a kidney.
- 20:58Speaker 4: You give me a call.
- 20:59Speaker 2: All right, Taylor, put it on the poll. Can you
- 21:00Speaker 2: have a wide receiver if you don't have a quarterback?
- 21:04Speaker 4: We're going to find out, aren't we?
- 21:06Speaker 3: We're going to find out.
- 21:08Speaker 2: But right now you're feeling pretty good about it. I mean,
- 21:10Speaker 2: you are. You should. I feel great.
- 21:11Speaker 4: And I was like, Big Ten schedule is pretty easy
- 21:15Speaker 4: compared to everybody else. And the only tough games on there,
- 21:17Speaker 4: Ohio State. Let's just, we'll just put that. All right.
- 21:20Speaker 4: I understand what that's.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Going to look like.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Washington, who looked not fantastic this weekend. And Michigan, who
- 21:27Speaker 4: looked terrible.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Yes.
- 21:29Speaker 4: I'm not trying to say we're going to the playoff,
- 21:31Speaker 4: but I'm also not saying we're not going to the playoff.
- 21:33Speaker 2: You're not ruling it out. I like it.
- 21:35Speaker 5: Lucy, you mentioned that the birds just keep singing Tony
- 21:39Speaker 5: Diaz over and over, and I've noticed that's a trend
- 21:41Speaker 5: for you because, Stu, when I went to Baton Rouge
- 21:43Speaker 5: with Lucy, we had a 30-minute drive from the airport.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Fourth time, yeah.
- 21:48Speaker 5: And the entire car ride from the airport to the hotel,
- 21:53Speaker 5: We listened to Colin Baton Rouge on repeat. We heard
- 21:56Speaker 5: it about 30 times. It was cute until about the
- 21:59Speaker 5: third time.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Yeah, then it becomes hell, right?
- 22:02Speaker 4: Yeah, Taylor keeps bringing up this story everywhere we go.
- 22:05Speaker 4: It's like, I introduced him to my friends, and he
- 22:08Speaker 4: was like, hey, do you want to hear this time
- 22:09Speaker 4: that Lucy played this song over and over and over again?
- 22:11Speaker 5: 30 times in a row.
- 22:14Speaker 4: Then what I'll do is I'll play Colin Baton Rouge
- 22:16Speaker 4: for people and they'll go, yeah, I'd love to listen
- 22:18Speaker 4: to that 30 times in a row. So I think
- 22:21Speaker 4: that is user error on Taylor's fault. Taylor doesn't even
- 22:24Speaker 4: listen to music. So sorry I'm trying to expand your palate.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Sorry I'm trying to embrace the experience. Operator, won't you
- 22:31Speaker 4: put me on through? I've got to send my love
- 22:33Speaker 4: down to Baton Rouge.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 22:35Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, my top artist this past year on Spotify
- 22:38Speaker 5: was Frank Sinatra just because I listened to it after
- 22:40Speaker 5: Yankee Games.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Yeah, so your take is so not valid to me.
- 22:46Speaker 2: With a Shirley Temple. You are a thousand years old, man.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Taylor, what was the Spotify listening age it gave you?
- 22:55Speaker 3: I think it said like 85.
- 22:56Speaker 5: I think it said 85 and decrepit on it.
- 23:03Speaker 4: It said hospice care on it.
- 23:04Speaker 2: It was just a flat line.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I want to ask more questions, but I'm not certain
- 23:10Speaker 1: we can end any better. So let's just bookmark it
- 23:13Speaker 1: right there. Lucy, we appreciate it. I am sorry that
- 23:17Speaker 1: you were tired after just.
- 23:18Speaker 2: One week of college football.
- 23:20Speaker 4: I was so tired. Being an influencer, Stu, you have
- 23:23Speaker 4: no idea how hard it is.
- 23:25Speaker 1: She is the host of the College Football Happy Hour
- 23:28Speaker 1: with Jessica Smetana. Check her out right there. Lucy, we
- 23:31Speaker 1: appreciate it. We'll talk to you hopefully next week if
- 23:34Speaker 1: you make it.
- 23:36Speaker 4: I'm going to Texas.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
