- 0:00Speaker 1: Coach cav on the Yukonacky Coaches Show.
- 0:02Speaker 2: It's busy week here on the Yukon Sports Network, in fact,
- 0:05Speaker 2: down the street at the Excel Center. Tomorrow night, the
- 0:07Speaker 2: men's basketball team will take on Butler Mike and win
- 0:10Speaker 2: at six thirty. Debbie joins b Wednesday in stores for
- 0:13Speaker 2: the women in Villanova. That's a six to thirty broadcast
- 0:15Speaker 2: as well. And then Adam has the return of Yukon
- 0:18Speaker 2: hockey on the radio Connecticut Ice when the Huskies take
- 0:21Speaker 2: on Quinnipiac three forty five Friday afternoon from Sacred Heart
- 0:24Speaker 2: right here on the Yukon Sports Network. Unfortunately, we can
- 0:27Speaker 2: operate the Saturday games because we have a basketball double
- 0:29Speaker 2: header on the road Saturday evening. I'm at Creighton at
- 0:32Speaker 2: five and the guys play at eight, So what's the issue.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll squeeze at him in there. We'll do well.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Well, we're on an FM's thing, you know, most of
- 0:43Speaker 2: our affiliates are FM station, so left.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Channel we can do one game and week.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Unfortunately, but we got a boatload of games. We got
- 0:51Speaker 2: both games of the Providence series. The following weekend, you
- 0:54Speaker 2: got UMass U mess Low. We got both those games.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I think the only game we're not doing in February
- 0:59Speaker 2: is the last a game we have bu We're doing
- 1:02Speaker 2: the two games at Northeastern and then the game of
- 1:04Speaker 2: a month.
- 1:04Speaker 3: How about Adam's Nantucket reds here.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I called him Bob Baco when he got in here.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Yeah that's the.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Rumor. Well, look, let's get back to your hockey team
- 1:17Speaker 2: for a minute. Your captain has come alive since coming
- 1:20Speaker 2: back from the break. Three goals, nine assists. Hudson Chander
- 1:23Speaker 2: had four straight multi point games that ended on Saturday
- 1:26Speaker 2: night up at Maine. But man, he has gotten going
- 1:29Speaker 2: and now playing with both Joey Muldowney and Jake Richard,
- 1:32Speaker 2: I mean he has really come alive.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Well, he's playing great hockey right now and it doesn't
- 1:40Speaker 3: surprise me. Uh he. I think has become the all
- 1:44Speaker 3: time leading scorer in the Hockey East era. I think
- 1:47Speaker 3: he surpassed Yakam and John Spetz surpassed Joe masonis ye
- 1:52Speaker 3: so but the two of.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Them, by the way, Gino's teamed a nice job on
- 1:57Speaker 2: his sister yesterday.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yes, yeah, faith for seat and hall.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Oh that's right, that's right, Yeah, I forgot she transferred
- 2:03Speaker 3: from Maryland, right right, right? Yeah? What she doing a
- 2:06Speaker 3: fifty year there because she graduated from COVID year at
- 2:10Speaker 3: I love the Masona's family.
- 2:11Speaker 2: She could have gone to Villanova too, from what I understand,
- 2:14Speaker 2: but she chose a seat in Hall.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Okay, all right, But what what Hudson and John have
- 2:21Speaker 3: brought to our team. Never mind the the scoring and
- 2:25Speaker 3: be an all time leading scorers, which shows how great
- 2:28Speaker 3: a player they have been, but what they've done this
- 2:31Speaker 3: year to galvanize the team and make sure that the
- 2:36Speaker 3: locker room is as tight as can be. You don't
- 2:41Speaker 3: understand how far that goes because you don't have those
- 2:45Speaker 3: insidious issues that can cripple a team, you know at
- 2:50Speaker 3: some point during the season, and they've been able to,
- 2:53Speaker 3: just like I said, mitigate all those issues and really
- 2:58Speaker 3: keep the locker room super tight.
- 3:00Speaker 4: And without peeling back the curtain too far. That process
- 3:03Speaker 4: begins over the summer. So when last season ends and
- 3:08Speaker 4: you have these two guys who have a chance to
- 3:10Speaker 4: come back for a fifth year, just take us through
- 3:13Speaker 4: as much as you're willing to divulge that just that
- 3:15Speaker 4: process of what it took with them coming back, deciding
- 3:19Speaker 4: to come back because it wasn't a given and them
- 3:22Speaker 4: coming back and then just starting this whole process from there.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Well, it was funny because when those two decided to
- 3:29Speaker 3: come back, you know, listen, everybody thought the sky was
- 3:33Speaker 3: falling for Yukon hockey because we had three draft choices
- 3:36Speaker 3: transfer and for a number of different I don't know
- 3:42Speaker 3: what reasons they you'd have to ask them. But when
- 3:45Speaker 3: those two decided to come back, I think that was
- 3:48Speaker 3: a big statement to everybody else. You know, and the
- 3:51Speaker 3: playbook that they drew up over the summer, and it
- 3:56Speaker 3: wasn't neutral zone four checks, it wasn't offensive zone play,
- 4:00Speaker 3: it wasn't face off plays. It was this is how
- 4:02Speaker 3: we're going to be as a team. This is how
- 4:04Speaker 3: you're going to act as a Yukon Hockey player, and
- 4:07Speaker 3: these are our expectations. I think it it went a
- 4:11Speaker 3: long way with everybody.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Wow, that's phenomenal, and they just galloned.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I mean what we I mean I always knew that
- 4:17Speaker 2: howe Hey was cap and material and we've seen that.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Three time captain.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, I mean when he was young, you could
- 4:22Speaker 2: see that in him and it's just taken off like that.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not a coincidence.
- 4:27Speaker 2: A the team has substantially more speed than they had
- 4:30Speaker 2: a season ago. This team as a whole, you've seen that,
- 4:33Speaker 2: we've seen that the power play has suddenly taken off,
- 4:37Speaker 2: and it's just interesting. You know, Tyler, i'd talked to
- 4:40Speaker 2: him today and you know, Dan and I have been
- 4:42Speaker 2: talking back and forth, Dan Connolly, and it was a
- 4:44Speaker 2: conversation about I guess just simply more practice on the
- 4:47Speaker 2: power play and it has shown, and the movements there
- 4:50Speaker 2: and the puck movements there, the speed movement, you know,
- 4:52Speaker 2: the skating movements there. It kind of seems like a
- 4:56Speaker 2: half court offense for basketball. Because we've talked about this,
- 4:58Speaker 2: how you can take things from you know, and Dan
- 5:00Speaker 2: Hurley and take it to the ice.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Well, there's no question, and I think what Tyler's done
- 5:06Speaker 3: with the power play is been phenomenal. And we actually
- 5:11Speaker 3: had a very spirited conversation out in Wisconsin right when
- 5:15Speaker 3: we get back from the break. I wasn't happy with
- 5:18Speaker 3: the way things were going with the power play, and
- 5:20Speaker 3: Tyler had his beliefs and thoughts and vision on how
- 5:26Speaker 3: he wanted to practice it, and it wasn't necessarily what
- 5:30Speaker 3: I wanted, but I said Okay, if this is what
- 5:34Speaker 3: you want to do, I'm going to trust you. And
- 5:36Speaker 3: he was right. It's it's been, you know, really good
- 5:41Speaker 3: since Christmas, and he's done things a little bit differently
- 5:44Speaker 3: than we've done them in the past. But I got
- 5:47Speaker 3: to give him credit. He's really it's it's worked for us,
- 5:52Speaker 3: and it's with our kids. They are buying into it
- 5:58Speaker 3: as well, So I think it's very relatable for our
- 6:01Speaker 3: kids the way he's practicing the power play now.
- 6:03Speaker 4: At the beginning of the year, it might have been
- 6:05Speaker 4: our first show we talked about mo Butler and how
- 6:08Speaker 4: you said, I'm turning everything over to her, and it
- 6:11Speaker 4: felt like you as a coach might.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Have when it came to conditioning, Yeah, conditioning, And.
- 6:15Speaker 4: It felt like you as a coach maybe came to
- 6:18Speaker 4: terms with, Okay, I can give a little bit more
- 6:21Speaker 4: to other people, take more off of your plate. Do
- 6:23Speaker 4: you see you know, the middle of the season, but
- 6:26Speaker 4: do you find yourself growing in that way and you're
- 6:28Speaker 4: eleven here at Yukon where maybe you wouldn't have totally
- 6:31Speaker 4: said to Tyler, Okay, yep, let's let's do it your way.
- 6:35Speaker 3: No, I think I've always kind of been my management
- 6:38Speaker 3: style is to let people do their job, you know,
- 6:42Speaker 3: give them but at the same token, you are the
- 6:45Speaker 3: CEO of the organization, so it always stops with you
- 6:49Speaker 3: at the end of the day. So you do have
- 6:52Speaker 3: to have some input and I do have some experience
- 6:55Speaker 3: so with a few out of my careers, so I
- 7:00Speaker 3: try to, you know, impart that when I can. But
- 7:03Speaker 3: he was very, very like we had a spirited discussion
- 7:06Speaker 3: on the ice at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and
- 7:10Speaker 3: he was very passionate about how he wanted to practice
- 7:13Speaker 3: the power play and I wasn't necessarily on board with it,
- 7:17Speaker 3: but I said, okay, like, if you're this passionate about it,
- 7:21Speaker 3: I'm going to let you do it.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Did you ever have any of these type of conversations
- 7:25Speaker 2: that you had with Tyler when you worked for Jerry
- 7:28Speaker 2: at BC and think, yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Jerry was Jerry was very similar that way. Now, the
- 7:35Speaker 3: one thing I say about Tyler too is and you
- 7:38Speaker 3: having them on later. I don't know if there's anyone
- 7:40Speaker 3: who has more allegiance and devotion to our program. He
- 7:45Speaker 3: may have more than I do, because he went to
- 7:47Speaker 3: Yukon and he played in the program and he's been
- 7:49Speaker 3: here with me for all twelve years.
- 7:51Speaker 1: That's right, and I'm sure that's a big part of it.
- 7:53Speaker 3: And you know, he'd be retsican to say anything about himself.
- 8:01Speaker 3: He would never ever do that, but I'll say it
- 8:03Speaker 3: for him. You know. I just have the utmost respect
- 8:07Speaker 3: for him.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And it's working. Can't deny that almost thirty percent. And
- 8:11Speaker 2: since you've come back, it's pretty wild, all right. Tyler's
- 8:13Speaker 2: coming up in a bit. We'll have one more segment
- 8:15Speaker 2: with Coach Gavire and then it'll be Tomasinio and Tyler
- 8:19Speaker 2: Hilton is the Hockey Coaches Show from Paris Smoke Cows,
- 8:21Speaker 2: Barbecue and Hartford Hockey Coaches Show on Learfield.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Stay with us,
