Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: Is the work of activists making a difference?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Regular listeners will know. When it comes to free speech, well,
- 0:02Speaker 1: I'm pretty into it. How else do we get smarter
- 0:05Speaker 1: but to debate ideas, put them through the ringer, shout
- 0:08Speaker 1: and scream and reason and argue. We've been doing it
- 0:11Speaker 1: since we could talk, which is well, a very long time.
- 0:14Speaker 1: When the Maga mob came for Jimmy Kimmel and I
- 0:16Speaker 1: defended him on this program, many of you agreed, some
- 0:19Speaker 1: of you did not, which is what we call an argument,
- 0:21Speaker 1: and hey, that's okay too. So yesterday when the Talco
- 0:25Speaker 1: when one in Z decided to pull those ads with
- 0:27Speaker 1: the activist, I had a genuine moral conundrum. See, I
- 0:33Speaker 1: think people should be able to protest, not in work
- 0:36Speaker 1: uniform obviously, and not get the sack. I don't like
- 0:39Speaker 1: canceling people in this case. The fact she gave out
- 0:43Speaker 1: Winston's address on the Internet probably crosses the line. But
- 0:47Speaker 1: if we're being honest, did it need to take a
- 0:49Speaker 1: crowbar through his front window, shattering glass onto poor Kobe
- 0:52Speaker 1: the dog for the head honchos at one enz to
- 0:54Speaker 1: tank action. She'd been plastered all over the news for
- 0:56Speaker 1: sharing his address for days before crowbar glass. I don't
- 1:02Speaker 1: like that she's been canceled, to be honest with you,
- 1:05Speaker 1: but I can see why they did it. And as
- 1:07Speaker 1: for activists more generally, apparently there's a shortened street actor
- 1:11Speaker 1: packing his bag for some flotilla somewhere. They're just annoying,
- 1:14Speaker 1: aren't they. Don't you just find them annoying, whether it's
- 1:17Speaker 1: the pre set chaining themselves to an electrot office, just annoying.
- 1:22Speaker 1: You know, who doesn't need a lecture on gigo politics
- 1:24Speaker 1: of the Middle East from a guy who wears a
- 1:26Speaker 1: fake stethoscope for a living, Like, what do they think? Anyway?
- 1:32Speaker 1: In most cases the real subject matter, of course, is themselves.
- 1:36Speaker 1: In most cases they achieve nothing, and in most cases
- 1:39Speaker 1: they're ignored. And the beauty of democracy, along with freedom
- 1:43Speaker 1: of speech, is that we can do that. For more
