- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:10Speaker 1: Amy Torber. And I'm Kate Torber. And coming up on
- 0:13Speaker 1: today's show, Sky Wheatley's dramatic core appearance and the nostalgic
- 0:17Speaker 1: news blowing up our group chat. But first, Jules Neal
- 0:21Speaker 1: has broken her silence today. opening up for the first
- 0:24Speaker 1: time about her marriage breakdown to Brisbane Lions player Lockie Neal.
- 0:28Speaker 1: In the bombshell interview, Jules claimed Lockie had been unfaithful
- 0:31Speaker 1: with at least two other women before his alleged affair
- 0:34Speaker 1: with her best friend Tess Crosley. Amy, before we get
- 0:38Speaker 1: into the revelations, we need to talk about Jules' decision
- 0:41Speaker 1: to drop this news on an Influencers podcast. Yeah, I'm
- 0:45Speaker 1: sure there are a lot of disappointed journalists out there.
- 0:49Speaker 1: So she spoke with Adele Petropoulos, who has just launched
- 0:52Speaker 1: the Pretty Sure podcast. And as we said, Adele isn't
- 0:56Speaker 1: a journalist. She is a Melbourne-based makeup artist who's made
- 1:00Speaker 1: a name for herself on TikTok. So she's got over
- 1:04Speaker 1: 244,000 followers. As I said, this podcast is fresh. It
- 1:07Speaker 1: only began in July. So this is a massive get
- 1:11Speaker 1: for her. Do you think Jules felt comfortable talking to Adele?
- 1:15Speaker 1: Because Adele has been through something similar very recently. She
- 1:18Speaker 1: had a very public breakup with her fiance around this
- 1:22Speaker 1: time last year. She was actually in Europe when she
- 1:25Speaker 1: decided to leave her partner. She flew home alone. It
- 1:29Speaker 1: was quite iconic because she had actually already planned out
- 1:32Speaker 1: her wedding. She'd spent all this money on it and
- 1:34Speaker 1: she started giving away wedding items to her followers. Yeah,
- 1:37Speaker 1: it makes a lot of sense. And from listening to
- 1:39Speaker 1: the podcast, it seems like they've struck up a bit
- 1:42Speaker 1: of a friendship over some trauma bonding. Yeah. Interestingly, they're
- 1:46Speaker 1: also signed to the same management company, One Day Dream.
- 1:49Speaker 1: So Adele's podcast is also a One Day Dream production
- 1:52Speaker 1: and So it seems like this is how the opportunity
- 1:55Speaker 1: came about, surely. I wonder how Adele feels about her
- 1:58Speaker 1: podcast being all over the mainstream media because for me
- 2:02Speaker 1: it seemed quite funny seeing shots of the podcast set
- 2:06Speaker 1: being splashed on Seven and Nine because the podcast itself
- 2:09Speaker 1: is quite a fun, chatty show. Well, Jules is actually
- 2:13Speaker 1: the first person Adele has interviewed thus far on her
- 2:15Speaker 1: podcast because, as you said, it's in its infancy now.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I mean, this story could have been sold for a
- 2:21Speaker 1: lot of money. In saying that, it also comes with
- 2:24Speaker 1: a lot of criticism and it sways the way the
- 2:26Speaker 1: public perceives you. So I think she's done it quite perfectly.
- 2:28Speaker 1: She's waited to share her story and also done it
- 2:32Speaker 1: on her own terms. And in doing so, she's got
- 2:35Speaker 1: a lot of public support behind her. You mentioned the
- 2:38Speaker 1: timing of this podcast. I mean, comes just days after
- 2:42Speaker 1: Lockie Neal was seen kissing his new girlfriend, Emma Field,
- 2:45Speaker 1: in the Brisbane change rooms. It also comes out as
- 2:48Speaker 1: Lockie's Club Brisbane is set to kick off their finals campaign.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I can imagine the coach wouldn't be too happy about this.
- 2:55Speaker 1: It also comes out after all the drama we've seen
- 2:58Speaker 1: with the Sydney Swans. And to make matters worse for Lockie,
- 3:01Speaker 1: his ex Tess Crosley, she is set to appear in
- 3:04Speaker 1: a podcast interview with the Daily Mail. We're yet to
- 3:07Speaker 1: hear this, but I am hanging for this conversation.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I wonder how Lockie is feeling and his new girlfriend,
- 3:14Speaker 1: because I saw some paparazzi photos of her doing laps
- 3:18Speaker 1: around the tan in Melbourne. And, you know, I love
- 3:21Speaker 1: that the caption is always like, ah, beaming after her
- 3:24Speaker 1: photo kissing Lockie Neal. It's like she's literally on a
- 3:27Speaker 1: walk and she's being followed by paparazzi. Like she looks uncomfortable.
- 3:31Speaker 1: It's actually disgusting the tone that the media use when
- 3:34Speaker 1: discussing the wives and girlfriends of players. And Jules Neal
- 3:37Speaker 1: actually touched on this and she said what a lot
- 3:39Speaker 1: of people seem to forget is the wives and girlfriends,
- 3:42Speaker 1: a lot of them are physios, they're doctors, they're mothers,
- 3:45Speaker 1: they're lawyers. And- people just label them as you're a
- 3:49Speaker 1: wag and it just diminishes everything that they do. Yeah,
- 3:53Speaker 1: I got the vibe Jules Neill doesn't feel particularly comfortable
- 3:56Speaker 1: around journalists, which is probably a big part of the
- 3:59Speaker 1: reason why she chose to talk to Adele Petropoulos. That
- 4:02Speaker 1: way she didn't have a journalist sensationalising all of her
- 4:05Speaker 1: comments and putting their own spin on it. She could
- 4:07Speaker 1: actually tell her story in her own words. And also
- 4:10Speaker 1: the format of podcasts now allow people guest to speak
- 4:14Speaker 1: for such a long time compared to if she was
- 4:17Speaker 1: to sit down for a TV news interview, what? The
- 4:19Speaker 1: package would have gone for maximum. two minutes. Yeah. What
- 4:22Speaker 1: I really liked about it is I felt like I
- 4:24Speaker 1: knew her after listening to it. Like her personality came out.
- 4:27Speaker 1: She is such a likable person. And I think that
- 4:30Speaker 1: was really good for her because she's got quite a
- 4:32Speaker 1: large following on social media. She's built this profile for herself.
- 4:35Speaker 1: And I think people get a different impression of you
- 4:38Speaker 1: when you're posting like glamorous photos on Instagram. You don't
- 4:40Speaker 1: really get to know who the real person is. Now
- 4:43Speaker 1: this episode has already had more than a hundred thousand
- 4:46Speaker 1: downloads and soared to number one on the podcast charts. Again,
- 4:51Speaker 1: what an absolute get for Adele Petropoulos. But I mean,
- 4:53Speaker 1: despite the huge success though, Adele has been absolutely copying
- 4:57Speaker 1: it in the comment section. So a lot of people
- 4:59Speaker 1: were criticizing her saying that she constantly interrupted Jules and
- 5:03Speaker 1: talked over her. I mean, I did not notice this
- 5:05Speaker 1: at all. Another person said she skimmed over Jules' story
- 5:08Speaker 1: and quickly made it about herself. Again, this is so unfair.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I mean, This is what happens, though, when you open
- 5:14Speaker 1: your podcast up to the masses. Yeah, I mean, those
- 5:17Speaker 1: people clearly don't follow Adele on social media. I've got
- 5:20Speaker 1: a soft spot for her. I actually think Adele talking
- 5:22Speaker 1: about her own situation made Jules feel more comfortable to
- 5:26Speaker 1: open up about her own. It literally seemed like two
- 5:29Speaker 1: friends chatting about their partners cheating on them. Yeah, and
- 5:32Speaker 1: you can't tell me that ahead of time there wouldn't
- 5:34Speaker 1: have been a discussion about what Adele can and cannot
- 5:38Speaker 1: ask Jules. Like, obviously... I mean, like, for instance, they
- 5:42Speaker 1: didn't even reference Lockie Neal's name during the podcast. They
- 5:46Speaker 1: just referred to him as her ex, which I think
- 5:48Speaker 1: was a really clever thing to do because she's copped
- 5:52Speaker 1: a lot of criticism over the fact that that she
- 5:55Speaker 1: has kept her last name Neil. Oh my God, they've
- 5:57Speaker 1: got children together. It's like when everyone gives Nadia Bartel
- 6:00Speaker 1: a hard time for keeping Bartel as her surname. It's like, firstly,
- 6:05Speaker 1: it's a part of her personal brand now. That's what
- 6:06Speaker 1: people have known her for, for the last 15 years. Secondly,
- 6:10Speaker 1: that's her kids' names and that's her connection to her children.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I don't think it's any of these people's business. How
- 6:16Speaker 1: about your husband just doesn't cheat on you? Yeah.
- 6:18Speaker 3: You know?
- 6:19Speaker 1: Exactly. You know, why are we putting the blame on
- 6:21Speaker 1: the women? Oh, they're trying to use their profile. Fuck off. No,
- 6:23Speaker 1: she just looks the same name as a child when
- 6:25Speaker 1: she goes to pick them up from fucking school. I mean,
- 6:26Speaker 1: her kids are one and four. I mean, after having
- 6:30Speaker 1: a child, you realize that they are the most important
- 6:32Speaker 1: person in your whole life. She's not keeping the name
- 6:35Speaker 1: for him. She's keeping it for her children. And she
- 6:38Speaker 1: might ultimately decide in a couple of years time to
- 6:41Speaker 1: change her name. But that's her own prerogative. Now we
- 6:44Speaker 1: need to get into the biggest claims to come from
- 6:47Speaker 1: this podcast interview. The one that is being picked up
- 6:50Speaker 1: most in the press is Jules' claim that the Tess
- 6:53Speaker 1: Crosley saga wasn't an isolated incident. So she alleges that
- 6:57Speaker 1: Lockie cheated on her with at least two different women
- 6:59Speaker 1: during their marriage. The first incident allegedly took place when
- 7:03Speaker 1: their daughter Piper was very young. It made me sick
- 7:05Speaker 1: to my stomach hearing how this unfolded because Jules said
- 7:09Speaker 1: she received a hey girly DM from another woman saying,
- 7:13Speaker 1: accompanied by receipts. Let's take a listen to more of
- 7:16Speaker 1: what she said.
- 7:17Speaker 2: The worst day of my life.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yeah. Didn't leave bed for four days. I fully believe it.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Before that would have bet my life that he would
- 7:24Speaker 2: have never done that to me ever. And then I was,
- 7:31Speaker 2: you know, I was reassured that that was a one-off thing.
- 7:33Speaker 2: It would never happen again.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Biggest mistake of his life. Yada, yada, yada.
- 7:39Speaker 2: We already had my daughter together. So I decided to
- 7:43Speaker 2: stay and try to work on it. And I just
- 7:48Speaker 2: felt like after that, I was like, people can make mistakes.
- 7:51Speaker 2: And if it was a one-off mistake, I don't want
- 7:53Speaker 2: to break up our family because of it. Got too
- 7:56Speaker 2: much at stake here for her.
- 7:59Speaker 1: One thing that stood out to me was it seems
- 8:01Speaker 1: like Jules was keen to let listeners know that that
- 8:04Speaker 1: she had tried to make her marriage work and that,
- 8:07Speaker 1: you know, it was the last straw when she actually
- 8:10Speaker 1: left her marriage at the start of the year. It's
- 8:12Speaker 1: not like she just, quote, gave up on things immediately.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I mean, it also helped paint the picture of what
- 8:17Speaker 1: a dirty dog Lockie Neal is, really. She went on
- 8:21Speaker 1: to say that since their separation, more stories have come
- 8:24Speaker 1: out of the woodwork and she wishes she could have
- 8:26Speaker 1: had that information a few years ago. One of the
- 8:29Speaker 1: most interesting parts of this interview is was when Jules
- 8:31Speaker 1: went into how she actually found out about the cheating.
- 8:35Speaker 1: So there was a longstanding rumour that one of the
- 8:38Speaker 1: Brisbane Lions partners caught Lockie and Tess Canoodling in a car,
- 8:42Speaker 1: and Jules confirmed that she did in fact find out
- 8:45Speaker 1: about the alleged affair by the partner of another Brisbane player.
- 8:49Speaker 1: So the partner was a close friend of hers who
- 8:52Speaker 1: was tipped off by another partner at the club. Jules
- 8:56Speaker 1: described it as the worst feeling in the world and
- 8:59Speaker 1: said instantly she began questioning whether everyone at the club knew.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Seemed like she felt really embarrassed. Well, as you would.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I mean, it ended up that she spoke to a
- 9:07Speaker 1: bunch of the other partners and they all seemed pretty
- 9:09Speaker 1: shocked by it. So it gave her that assurance that
- 9:12Speaker 1: it wasn't public knowledge. Now Jules alleges that the initial
- 9:16Speaker 1: plan from the Brisbane Lions was to keep the infidelity
- 9:19Speaker 1: under wraps and tell the media that she and Lockie
- 9:22Speaker 1: were working through marriage issues. And she said that she
- 9:26Speaker 1: felt this immense pressure from her close-knit circle to keep
- 9:29Speaker 1: it hush-hush. It quickly became apparent though that the club
- 9:32Speaker 1: was just trying to protect Lockie. No way. And what
- 9:36Speaker 1: was good for Lockie was no longer good for Jules.
- 9:39Speaker 1: That's when she decided to leak the story on her
- 9:41Speaker 1: own Instagram. Let's take a listen to what she said.
- 9:45Speaker 2: As soon as I put on my stories that I
- 9:48Speaker 2: wasn't working through anything and that I'd been betrayed and
- 9:51Speaker 2: I actually didn't think that was going to go as
- 9:53Speaker 2: crazy as it did, but it did. I actually felt
- 9:56Speaker 2: a huge like weight of relief.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Off my shoulders.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Because, yeah, it actually felt good to have people know
- 10:04Speaker 2: like not exactly what had happened but just the truth.
- 10:07Speaker 2: I really, I didn't like how it sounded in the
- 10:10Speaker 2: media that we were working through a marital issue. It
- 10:12Speaker 2: sounded like we were having a fight and like we
- 10:14Speaker 2: were going to work through it and that's definitely not
- 10:17Speaker 2: what was happening at all.
- 10:19Speaker 1: I think this is why so many people love Jules
- 10:22Speaker 1: because of this decision. She was like, you know what?
- 10:25Speaker 1: You're this big, powerful AFL club. Well, fuck you. Like
- 10:28Speaker 1: now with Instagram, people have the ability to be their
- 10:31Speaker 1: own newsrooms. Like you can broadcast any story you want,
- 10:34Speaker 1: which is fantastic. I mean, we spoke a couple of
- 10:37Speaker 1: weeks ago when we were talking about the Bailey Smith
- 10:39Speaker 1: saga about just how difficult the job of being a
- 10:41Speaker 1: media advisor for an AFL club or really any professional
- 10:45Speaker 1: sporting club is these days, because Players have their own platforms.
- 10:49Speaker 1: The partners have their own platforms and followings and they
- 10:52Speaker 1: can just go put out their own media statements. What
- 10:54Speaker 1: became increasingly apparent in this interview is that Jules was
- 10:59Speaker 1: not told the full story about this affair with Tess
- 11:02Speaker 1: Crosley because she originally thought that it was just a kiss,
- 11:06Speaker 1: but it later unraveled that it was a full-blown affair.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Let's take a listen to what she said. I guess
- 11:13Speaker 1: it was an ongoing, like, four-month, affair. Okay. With my
- 11:19Speaker 1: best friend.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Okay.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Behind my back, which I actually didn't find out about
- 11:23Speaker 2: until I moved back to Perth. I thought it was
- 11:25Speaker 2: a one, I thought it was a, I was told
- 11:28Speaker 2: it was a kiss and that's all it was. And
- 11:32Speaker 2: I actually packed up and left because of that. And
- 11:35Speaker 2: then when I got to Perth, it all came out
- 11:37Speaker 2: and I found out that it was a lot more
- 11:39Speaker 2: than that.
- 11:39Speaker 1: And it had been going on.
- 11:40Speaker 2: For a lot longer, which was probably a good thing
- 11:42Speaker 2: that I was interstate when I found out that that
- 11:45Speaker 2: had happened because um yeah it wouldn't have been good
- 11:49Speaker 2: if I was in the same town.
- 11:51Speaker 1: As the people um just gross just awful obviously Lockie
- 11:57Speaker 1: and Tess were in damage control if they were trying
- 11:59Speaker 1: to get away with the older it was just a
- 12:01Speaker 1: curse I love how Jewel said it was lucky for
- 12:03Speaker 1: them that she was in a different state I mean
- 12:06Speaker 1: it makes sense she said that The worst part wasn't
- 12:08Speaker 1: so much the cheating, it was the lying afterwards. I mean,
- 12:11Speaker 1: this is your husband and your best friend. I cannot
- 12:13Speaker 1: even begin to imagine how betrayed she must have felt. Yeah,
- 12:17Speaker 1: and she said that she didn't see the red flags,
- 12:20Speaker 1: but in hindsight, they were definitely there. I felt so
- 12:23Speaker 1: sorry for her when she said she felt like such
- 12:25Speaker 1: an idiot, but it's like, well, why would you expect
- 12:27Speaker 1: your husband and best friend to be having an affair?
- 12:29Speaker 1: It's just... appalling. Now, there have been longstanding rumours that
- 12:34Speaker 1: Jules and Lockie were in an open relationship and that
- 12:37Speaker 1: the two couples were swingers. Jules confirmed she was definitely
- 12:42Speaker 1: not in an open relationship, nor were they swinging. And
- 12:45Speaker 1: she joked that if she was, why would she have
- 12:47Speaker 1: packed up her whole life and left over a kiss?
- 12:50Speaker 1: It's so ridiculous that she even had to acknowledge those rumours. Like,
- 12:54Speaker 1: I feel like those rumours were just created by some
- 12:56Speaker 1: gross men on TikTok. Now, we touched on how this
- 12:59Speaker 1: week Lockie Neal Todd launched his new partner, Emma Field,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and it turns out that Jules found out about Emma
- 13:05Speaker 1: the same way everyone else did through the press. She
- 13:09Speaker 1: admitted a heads up would have been nice and it
- 13:11Speaker 1: was a completely new person she was unaware of. I mean,
- 13:15Speaker 1: it really gives an insight into... the current relationship between
- 13:19Speaker 1: Jules and Lockie. I mean, the fact that he has
- 13:21Speaker 1: zero respect to give her the heads up and say, hey,
- 13:23Speaker 1: this is probably going to break in all the newspapers. Well,
- 13:25Speaker 1: particularly because they've got two children together. They are co-parenting.
- 13:28Speaker 1: It's not like they're not talking to each other. She
- 13:31Speaker 1: also said until now she's tried not to say anything
- 13:34Speaker 1: to her kids about the situation, but she knows that
- 13:37Speaker 1: there will be a time when they're old enough to
- 13:39Speaker 1: Google the story and she hopes that they're proud of
- 13:42Speaker 1: their mum for sticking up for herself. I have no doubt.
- 13:45Speaker 1: her children will be incredibly proud of her. And disappointed
- 13:49Speaker 1: in their father. Now, Jules also issued a stark warning
- 13:54Speaker 1: to anyone getting into a relationship with an AFL player, joking,
- 13:58Speaker 1: don't do it. And she had a tip for those
- 14:00Speaker 1: who are currently dating footballers. She said, make sure you
- 14:03Speaker 1: have your own bank account and save some fuck you
- 14:06Speaker 1: money or runaway money. What was also interesting about Jules
- 14:10Speaker 1: putting out this warning to other women is was the
- 14:12Speaker 1: fact that this podcast interview was actually recorded before the
- 14:16Speaker 1: Sydney Swans saga, but her words are even more valid
- 14:20Speaker 1: at this point in time. Yeah, well, I'd like to
- 14:22Speaker 1: hazard a guess that a couple of Sydney Swans players'
- 14:26Speaker 1: girlfriends have probably slid into Jules Neal's DMs and they're
- 14:29Speaker 1: all trauma bonding at the moment. Well, all they have
- 14:32Speaker 1: to do is look to Jules Neal for a masterclass
- 14:34Speaker 1: on how to deal with the media off the back
- 14:38Speaker 1: of it. And the thing that I like about this
- 14:40Speaker 1: is that Jules has come out in such a strong way.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Like a few people were saying, oh, she didn't even
- 14:45Speaker 1: cry in the interview. It's like, why does she want
- 14:47Speaker 1: to waste her tears over that pathetic man? It's a
- 14:50Speaker 1: serious question, need an honest answer. How bad on the
- 14:54Speaker 1: scale of 1 to 10 does my hair look right now?
- 14:56Speaker 1: Sky Wheatley caused a stir when she appeared in court
- 14:59Speaker 1: on Monday to face drink driving charges. The former Big
- 15:02Speaker 1: Brother housemate clashed with a paparazzo outside court. However, inside,
- 15:07Speaker 1: her lawyer did all the talking. Now on Tuesday's show,
- 15:29Speaker 1: we spoke about how Sky had labelled her lawyer Belinda
- 15:32Speaker 1: Robertson an angel sent from the heavens. And it appears
- 15:35Speaker 1: she wasn't wrong. Yeah, she must be pretty thrilled with
- 15:38Speaker 1: this result. No conviction was recorded and she was fined
- 15:41Speaker 1: just $ 700 and disqualified from driving for five months. It
- 15:46Speaker 1: seems like Skye must have learned a lesson from the
- 15:48Speaker 1: last time she was in court. So that was back
- 15:51Speaker 1: in 2018 when she lost her license for six months
- 15:54Speaker 1: after being caught speeding in a school zone. Now, at
- 15:57Speaker 1: the time she chose to represent herself, And she applied
- 16:01Speaker 1: for this special restricted license, but her request was refused.
- 16:06Speaker 1: This time around, her lawyer did all the talking. She
- 16:08Speaker 1: entered a guilty plea on Skye's behalf to the charge
- 16:11Speaker 1: of having control of a vehicle while over the middle
- 16:14Speaker 1: alcohol limit. Now, this is a separate offense to driving
- 16:18Speaker 1: over the legal alcohol limit. And it makes sense as
- 16:21Speaker 1: to why Skye pled guilty to this lesser offense, as
- 16:24Speaker 1: she was actually found by police asleep in her car
- 16:27Speaker 1: with the engine running. The police actually had to wake
- 16:30Speaker 1: her up and that's when she blew two times over
- 16:33Speaker 1: the legal limit. I know I shouldn't laugh because it's
- 16:35Speaker 1: a serious matter, but a bit that cracked me up
- 16:38Speaker 1: about Skye's story is the fact that she drove to
- 16:41Speaker 1: McDonald's to get a frozen Coke. She was so desperate
- 16:44Speaker 1: to drink a frozen Coke. Yeah, it sounded like it
- 16:46Speaker 1: had been a big day for her because her lawyer
- 16:48Speaker 1: said that she'd been in Melbourne all day for business,
- 16:51Speaker 1: but she didn't want to return home to an empty
- 16:53Speaker 1: house so was going to go stay with a friend.
- 16:55Speaker 1: And then instead of that, she decided she'd drive to
- 16:58Speaker 1: a liquor store to pick up a bottle of Jim Beam.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Then she felt like the frozen Coke. I mean, you'd
- 17:02Speaker 1: assume she was going to mix some of the Jim
- 17:04Speaker 1: Beam into the frozen Coke. Now, Skye claims that she
- 17:07Speaker 1: drove sober to McDonald's and parked outside the fast food
- 17:11Speaker 1: restaurant to have a drink. The court was also told
- 17:14Speaker 1: that Skye had been experiencing anxiety and depression following her
- 17:18Speaker 1: breakup with her longtime boyfriend, Lockie Waugh. Additionally, she said
- 17:21Speaker 1: she was also sleep deprived and had barely eaten anything
- 17:24Speaker 1: for a week. The magistrate and police prosecutor were both
- 17:28Speaker 1: pretty sceptical about Skye's claims that she drove sober to McDonald's.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Acting magistrate Mark Whitbread said, And it was at this
- 17:42Speaker 1: point that the case was stood down so Skye's lawyer
- 17:45Speaker 1: could talk to her. So when they came back, Skye
- 17:48Speaker 1: agreed to proceed on the basis that the magistrate was
- 17:51Speaker 1: going to sentence her on the assumption that she had
- 17:54Speaker 1: already been drinking alcohol before driving to McDonald's. Despite all
- 17:58Speaker 1: of that, no conviction was recorded. And that really surprised
- 18:01Speaker 1: me considering this is Sky's second drink driving related offence.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Not to mention that she's also had her licence disqualified
- 18:08Speaker 1: before for speeding in a school zone, like I mentioned before. Kate,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I disagree. I'm not that surprised because often drunk drivers
- 18:15Speaker 1: in Australia just get a slap on the wrist. And
- 18:18Speaker 1: it's really disappointing because this is a serious offence. So
- 18:20Speaker 1: many people have died as a result of drunk drivers
- 18:24Speaker 1: and I mean, even if you look at recent events,
- 18:26Speaker 1: just last month, cricketer David Warner, he also received a
- 18:29Speaker 1: slap on the wrist. So he had to pay $ 1, 500
- 18:31Speaker 1: as a fine. And he got one of those interlocker
- 18:35Speaker 1: systems put on his car for the next 12 months.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Like Sky, he too blew double over the limit. So
- 18:41Speaker 1: it wasn't just a little bit of alcohol. I think
- 18:44Speaker 1: Sky ultimately had a good lawyer who knew what they
- 18:47Speaker 1: were doing because she really ticked all the boxes. She
- 18:49Speaker 1: participated in the police program. leading into the court hearing.
- 18:53Speaker 1: We heard her speak about that a lot on her
- 18:55Speaker 1: Instagram story. She also has gone and seen a psychologist
- 18:59Speaker 1: and she's starting to take medication for her anxiety and depression.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Do you think this will have an effect on brand
- 19:05Speaker 1: deals that Sky brings in? Because Even in the case
- 19:07Speaker 1: of David Warner, I feel like these types of cases,
- 19:11Speaker 1: when they get picked up in the mainstream media, it
- 19:13Speaker 1: does cause huge reputational damage. Honestly, I don't think it's
- 19:17Speaker 1: going to have that much of an impact on her
- 19:19Speaker 1: because for years now, she's done quite controversial things and
- 19:23Speaker 1: brands just seem to keep spending money with her. In
- 19:26Speaker 1: saying that, a lot of her followers were unhappy with
- 19:28Speaker 1: the verdict. And I think her posting her out to
- 19:31Speaker 1: a celebratory dinner with friends and her lawyer was really
- 19:34Speaker 1: rubbed people up the wrong way. But Sky Wheatley is
- 19:37Speaker 1: basically like Teflon. Nothing seems to really stick and people
- 19:40Speaker 1: just seem to forgive her and move on. Aaron Carter
- 19:44Speaker 1: actually had the song on hold because he had done
- 19:46Speaker 1: I Want Candy and then he wanted Strawberry Kisses. That
- 19:49Speaker 1: would have worked for Aaron Carter. Carter. So I had
- 19:50Speaker 1: to fight pretty hard to say, nope, this is my song.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Let's get into what's been blowing up our group chat
- 19:56Speaker 1: this week. And in some news that's going to make
- 19:58Speaker 1: you feel really old, Nikki Webster's hit Strawberry Kisses is
- 20:02Speaker 1: officially 25. It takes me back because I have vivid
- 20:06Speaker 1: memories of watching Nikki Webster perform at the Olympics in
- 20:10Speaker 1: Sydney at the opening ceremony. And I think she was
- 20:12Speaker 1: around our age. Is that right? She's two years older
- 20:15Speaker 1: than us. I actually saw this interview on a radio
- 20:18Speaker 1: station with Nikki and this girl was like, look, before
- 20:20Speaker 1: we start the interview, I just have to apologise. I
- 20:23Speaker 1: used to hate you as a child because I was
- 20:25Speaker 1: so jealous of you appearing at the Olympics and all
- 20:27Speaker 1: the comments, because this was on TikTok, all the comments
- 20:30Speaker 1: were like, oh my God, so do I and I
- 20:31Speaker 1: feel so bad now. This is just more evidence that
- 20:34Speaker 1: no one has ever had an individual thought because I've
- 20:36Speaker 1: got to admit, I did not like her either when
- 20:38Speaker 1: I watched it. I wouldn't have admitted at the time
- 20:41Speaker 1: that I was jealous, but I think that's where it
- 20:43Speaker 1: was stemming from. Oh, 100%. Now, to celebrate the anniversary,
- 20:47Speaker 1: Nikki and her 12-year-old daughter, Skylar, performed Strawberry Kisses on
- 20:51Speaker 1: the morning show. We need to have a listen. I
- 20:54Speaker 1: know you're crying, no, no. Can't write those pretty words
- 20:59Speaker 1: to show. Now, as you can imagine, this TikTok went
- 21:12Speaker 1: absolutely viral. It's racked up nearly half a million views.
- 21:15Speaker 1: A lot of people can't get over how much Skylar
- 21:18Speaker 1: looks like Nikki when she was the same age. A
- 21:20Speaker 1: lot of people are saying she looks like her clone. Yeah,
- 21:22Speaker 1: they look freakishly similar. And for those who haven't seen
- 21:25Speaker 1: the clip, Skylar is wearing the iconic hot pink piece
- 21:29Speaker 1: that Nikki wore in the film clip. I wonder if
- 21:32Speaker 1: Nikki's pulled it out of her wardrobe or they've had
- 21:34Speaker 1: to replicate it. Well, the funniest thing about this clip
- 21:37Speaker 1: going so viral was that it ended up in a
- 21:39Speaker 1: lot of Americans' news feeds on TikTok and they clearly
- 21:42Speaker 1: had no idea what was going on. And I think
- 21:45Speaker 1: this is another reason why this video went so viral
- 21:48Speaker 1: because there were so many comments from Americans saying like,
- 21:51Speaker 1: what the fuck is this? The top comment on the
- 21:54Speaker 1: TikTok read, my fellow Americans, this isn't for us. While
- 21:58Speaker 1: another said, I assume this is something very Australian.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Yes.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Yes, it is. You are 100% correct. My favorite comment said,
- 22:08Speaker 1: as someone who didn't experience this, what is this? I mean,
- 22:11Speaker 1: it's a pretty fair question. I want to answer it
- 22:13Speaker 1: for you. This is a very important part of our
- 22:16Speaker 1: Australian culture because this song was number two on the
- 22:20Speaker 1: ARIA charts for seven weeks in 2001. It was also
- 22:24Speaker 1: the highest selling single by an Australian artist that year.
- 22:28Speaker 1: It was actually trumped by Kylie Minogue's Can't Get You
- 22:30Speaker 1: Out of My Head. and Me, Myself and I by Scandalous.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I just feel like there was something in the air
- 22:37Speaker 1: in the 2000s because the music is so addictive. Like
- 22:40Speaker 1: I have not stopped listening to Strawberry Kisses and so
- 22:44Speaker 1: much so that I've even been tempted to buy some
- 22:47Speaker 1: of Nikki Webster's merchandise. So she has brought out 25th
- 22:51Speaker 1: anniversary Strawberry Kisses hats. And I was trying to convince
- 22:54Speaker 1: you guys, like we should actually get one because they're
- 22:56Speaker 1: so cool. They're so ugly. You showed me. And I
- 22:59Speaker 1: was like, are you okay?
- 23:01Speaker 3: No.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Like they're not nice at all. They are so cool.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I actually thought whoever's doing her merch, we should get
- 23:06Speaker 1: to do those kick in the dick hats we keep
- 23:08Speaker 1: talking about. So for those who haven't seen it, it's
- 23:10Speaker 1: a pink and gray camo hat blazoned with strawberry kisses
- 23:14Speaker 1: across it. She actually was handing them out on the
- 23:16Speaker 1: morning show and it was the male host wearing it
- 23:19Speaker 1: that really sold it for me. They've got a bit
- 23:21Speaker 1: of an Ed Hardy vibe. To them, don't they? They do.
- 23:24Speaker 1: And I think that this could be the start of
- 23:27Speaker 1: Nikki's comeback because she's marketing herself correctly. Like a lot
- 23:31Speaker 1: of gay guys and girls would love these hats. They
- 23:35Speaker 1: would love the merch that she has put out. This
- 23:37Speaker 1: song is still catchy in 2026. A lot of people
- 23:40Speaker 1: are saying that potentially they should get Nikki and her
- 23:43Speaker 1: daughter to perform at the Brisbane Olympics this in 2032.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Wouldn't that be crazy? I'd be totally here for the
- 23:50Speaker 1: return to the opening ceremony, but I don't have as
- 23:53Speaker 1: high hopes as you, Amy, for a Nikki Webster return
- 23:56Speaker 1: to pop music. I think people like the nostalgia of
- 23:59Speaker 1: Strawberry Kisses, but I don't think people are going to
- 24:01Speaker 1: be supporting a full album. Now, keeping on the nostalgia train,
- 24:05Speaker 1: I was so excited to see that How to Lose
- 24:07Speaker 1: a Guy in 10 Days is officially getting a sequel.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I actually heard Zara and Michelle talking about this on Shameless.
- 24:14Speaker 1: And Zara said that she thinks that the movie is overrated.
- 24:17Speaker 1: And she said, oh, there were heaps better movies like
- 24:19Speaker 1: Mean Girls and Devil Wears Prada. Obviously those are top tier,
- 24:23Speaker 1: but this has got to be one of my favorite
- 24:26Speaker 1: movies of the 2000s. This is my all time favorite movie.
- 24:29Speaker 1: That's a bad call, Zara. Like I tend to agree
- 24:32Speaker 1: with A lot of Michelle and Zara's calls, but not
- 24:34Speaker 1: this one. I mean, Mean Girls for me probably sits
- 24:37Speaker 1: slightly above this movie, but there's just something about it.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I've got to say, it's probably the dress. I think
- 24:43Speaker 1: every millennial woman has grown up wanting to wear that
- 24:45Speaker 1: silky yellow dress to some event in their life. I'm
- 24:49Speaker 1: yet to do that. Well, what's crazy is that people
- 24:52Speaker 1: don't actually know where the dress is from the movie.
- 24:54Speaker 1: So there was this bizarre rumor going around in 2021
- 24:57Speaker 1: that that a TikTok user had found the original dress
- 25:01Speaker 1: at a Goodwill store and it was only $ 4.
- 25:02Speaker 3: 99.
- 25:03Speaker 1: And what fanned the rumour further was the fact that
- 25:07Speaker 1: Kate Hudson came out and said, yeah, she has no
- 25:09Speaker 1: idea where the dress is but she wants someone to
- 25:12Speaker 1: find it. Surely the dress will be featured in the
- 25:15Speaker 1: new movie. Like it has to pop up somewhere. Well,
- 25:17Speaker 1: it sounds like they're going to have to recreate it.
- 25:19Speaker 1: The most exciting part of this news is the fact
- 25:22Speaker 1: that Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are tipped to actually
- 25:25Speaker 1: reprise their roles today. as Andy Anderson and Benjamin Barry.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Kate Hudson is also on board as a producer. Have
- 25:32Speaker 1: you been watching the new Netflix show that she's on?
- 25:34Speaker 1: The basketball one? No, I haven't seen it. It's actually okay.
- 25:36Speaker 1: It's not the best thing ever, but it's really easy watching.
- 25:39Speaker 1: But I just love her so much. She's a part
- 25:41Speaker 1: of my childhood. Well, I think she's probably over being asked,
- 25:45Speaker 1: will this return? Because every interview, I think for the
- 25:48Speaker 1: last 20 years, she has probably had the question like,
- 25:51Speaker 1: are you going to do a sequel? And in an
- 25:53Speaker 1: interview last year on BBC, she said this.
- 25:57Speaker 3: I do get a lot of pitches, like people with
- 26:02Speaker 3: ideas of what, you know, where are they now?
- 26:05Speaker 1: Would you be into it? Are you into it?
- 26:07Speaker 3: Oh yeah, of course. It would just have to be right.
- 26:10Speaker 3: You know, it'd have to be, it would have to
- 26:12Speaker 3: be really good. It's like, you know, you don't want
- 26:14Speaker 3: to break what's not broken. And so it would have
- 26:17Speaker 3: to be all the right moving parts, but I always
- 26:21Speaker 3: love working with Matthew.
- 26:22Speaker 1: That's gotten me even more excited. And the internet is
- 26:25Speaker 1: absolutely abuzz with predictions about how the movie is going
- 26:28Speaker 1: to go. Some fans on Reddit said it should be
- 26:31Speaker 1: called How to Lose a Girl in 10 Days. But
- 26:34Speaker 1: then another Reddit user was quick to point out that
- 26:36Speaker 1: the movie would only last two seconds because of girls'
- 26:39Speaker 1: interest these days. Another title suggestion was The Return of
- 26:42Speaker 1: the Tinkle King in reference to Andy's dog urinating on
- 26:46Speaker 1: Benjamin's billiard table. Someone else also cleverly pointed out that
- 26:50Speaker 1: a sequel is particularly fitting for seeing as the Knicks
- 26:53Speaker 1: just won the NBA championships this year. This movie is
- 26:57Speaker 1: the whole reason that I follow the Knicks. And when
- 26:59Speaker 1: I say follow, I mean have pieces of their merchandise.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I actually used to work in basketball and everyone used
- 27:05Speaker 1: to be like, what's your NBA team? And I'd always
- 27:07Speaker 1: say the Knicks and then everyone would ask me who
- 27:09Speaker 1: my favourite player was. I'm yet to actually learn one
- 27:11Speaker 1: of the players' names. Benjamin Barry? I'm literally wearing my
- 27:15Speaker 1: Knicks jumper right now, which is very on trend. For
- 27:17Speaker 1: a long time, they were doing shit. Well, yeah, so...
- 27:20Speaker 1: I mean, this might sound really stupid, but I actually
- 27:23Speaker 1: always thought they were quite successful because in the original movie,
- 27:26Speaker 1: there is this theme of Andy and Ben watching the
- 27:29Speaker 1: seven game NBA final series. And it is between the
- 27:32Speaker 1: Knicks and the Kings. And at the end of the movie,
- 27:34Speaker 1: the Knicks win the championship. But this was just a
- 27:37Speaker 1: fictional result. So in reality, in 2003, the Knicks finished sixth.
- 27:43Speaker 1: And I think it took them about 57 years to actually,
- 27:46Speaker 1: like it's been 57 years since they have won a championship.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I wonder if basketball will play a part in the
- 27:51Speaker 1: new movie. Well, another prediction is that the movie might
- 27:55Speaker 1: be about Andy and Ben's kids navigating online dating, which
- 27:58Speaker 1: I thought was pretty clever. I hope not. Well, this
- 28:01Speaker 1: was really a popular prediction because people said, oh, we'll
- 28:03Speaker 1: give this opportunity for Andy and Ben to help them date.
- 28:08Speaker 1: And I don't know. It'll be interesting to see if
- 28:09Speaker 1: that one comes true. I've got a prediction. I think
- 28:12Speaker 1: that Andy and Benjamin were only together for about a
- 28:14Speaker 1: year after their famous reunion in the cabs. I think
- 28:19Speaker 1: we're going to then see in this sequel them reuniting
- 28:23Speaker 1: when they're older. you know, maybe their careers took them
- 28:26Speaker 1: in different directions. I reckon that Andy will suddenly be
- 28:30Speaker 1: working as a podcaster a bit like they did with
- 28:32Speaker 1: Carrie Bradshaw and Sex and the City. Like every journalist
- 28:35Speaker 1: just seems to then become a podcaster in the 2020s. Yeah, no,
- 28:39Speaker 1: that's a good call. Definitely. Well, I think that's where
- 28:41Speaker 1: we're going to leave things today. Thank you so much

- 29:05Speaker 1: for people to pay for their flowers, for the bath,
