- 0:57Speaker 1: of the worst hires ever. So welcome guys. I'm joined
- 1:01Speaker 1: by Morgan and Morgan and Corey. Hey. Corey. Corey works
- 1:07Speaker 1: for the team, does a lot of work for the show.
- 1:10Speaker 1: You do all the booking, so all the people who
- 1:13Speaker 1: this would be good for everybody who like you reach
- 1:16Speaker 1: out to and are trying to book the guests, like
- 1:19Speaker 1: some of the ones we're going to see today, you
- 1:21Speaker 1: did all the work of tracking them down, asking them
- 1:24Speaker 1: to consider it, getting them booked on the show, them
- 1:26Speaker 1: in their segment. That's pretty cool. Yeah, you'll talk to
- 1:29Speaker 1: me first.
- 1:30Speaker 3: You gotta go through him.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's got to go. Got to go through Corey
- 1:34Speaker 1: to make it on the show.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Yeah, So we still got a lot of guests lined up.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I mean, we still have folks in the pipeline trying
- 1:43Speaker 1: to trying to tell us stories and all that kind
- 1:45Speaker 1: of stuff. How many people do we have out there?
- 1:46Speaker 3: Sure?
- 1:49Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot, a lot, yeah, a lot. Yeah, really
- 1:53Speaker 1: got some work to do.
- 1:54Speaker 2: We're getting into the like please don't want to ask.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I haven't forgetting for a day interest today. So we're
- 2:04Speaker 2: in like the seventies, eighties probably now?
- 2:06Speaker 1: Oh really yeah?
- 2:07Speaker 3: Oh yeah, okay, sorry Corey.
- 2:09Speaker 1: All good fun here for Yehjeas Bush two brothers. She
- 2:13Speaker 1: was just like like eighty that he's not following up.
- 2:15Speaker 2: With No, he's doing great, you know, oh, yes, he's
- 2:19Speaker 2: doing great. Was doing he's doing great. It's just hard,
- 2:21Speaker 2: you know, like you get people who are interested and
- 2:23Speaker 2: then you got to keep asking if they're so interested,
- 2:27Speaker 2: And I know people are really busy and you know,
- 2:28Speaker 2: being a what's.
- 2:29Speaker 1: The biggest like what's like the biggest like draw? What
- 2:33Speaker 1: are they worried about? Corey? And someone's like, hey, I
- 2:36Speaker 1: want to you know, they reach out to I might
- 2:38Speaker 1: be interested. What are they worried about?
- 2:40Speaker 5: I haven't got any I might be interested.
- 2:43Speaker 1: What Hey, I'm interested time.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the biggest draw like you.
- 2:49Speaker 1: You were previously. I think trying to key him up
- 2:51Speaker 1: a little bit for a core guy. Right now, he's
- 2:53Speaker 1: going to get picked. Maybe he's going to get the
- 2:55Speaker 1: draw banks.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I get a lot of no, just straight up like no,
- 2:59Speaker 2: like professional behind it, or like please stop emailing me.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Or I get some like I'm worried about like the
- 3:06Speaker 2: anonymity or how you say that word and being anonymous
- 3:09Speaker 2: and not wanting to tell my story, you know, and
- 3:12Speaker 2: you know, I guess air out everybody's drama at the company.
- 3:15Speaker 2: So we get a lot of those, or people just
- 3:18Speaker 2: like how much does it cost?
- 3:19Speaker 3: And we're like, it's free, It's just an experience.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Oh really, yeah, I think it costs.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Yeah, people think it costs funny to be on the
- 3:24Speaker 3: show for you know, pr or whatever.
- 3:27Speaker 2: It might be because we're so adamant about trying to
- 3:29Speaker 2: get people on the show, they think that we must
- 3:31Speaker 2: be trying to sell them something.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Right, Well, you know, we work hard at whatever we do, so.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, we just want people in the show.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Well, charge on, guys, knock it out,
- 3:43Speaker 1: and if you want to be on the show, we
- 3:46Speaker 1: certainly encourage you to. You know, you can respond to
- 3:49Speaker 1: one of the emails that we might send out. If
- 3:50Speaker 1: you get one from us, you can go to the
- 3:53Speaker 1: our website, the Badhire dot com and you can check
- 3:56Speaker 1: it out there. You can submit a forum to say
- 3:59Speaker 1: I want to be on the show. You'll hear from Corey.
- 4:02Speaker 1: He'll reach out and try to book some time with
- 4:03Speaker 1: you to quickly talk for I don't know what's what's
- 4:06Speaker 1: it take Corey ten to fifteen minutes, Yeah, fifteen minute stops, stops,
- 4:09Speaker 1: and then he just talks about what you may be
- 4:12Speaker 1: thinking about, talking about what your story might be like.
- 4:14Speaker 1: And then he'll give you the options of like how
- 4:17Speaker 1: to submit a story or how to how to do
- 4:19Speaker 1: a video segment, whatever you want to do. And so yeah,
- 4:23Speaker 1: and if you win this year, at the end of
- 4:26Speaker 1: the year, we'll do it. We'll do We'll select the
- 4:28Speaker 1: best story. Somebody's gonna win ten grand so money as well,
- 4:31Speaker 1: be you Yeah, so yeah, shoot, yeah, really tell a
- 4:36Speaker 1: good story. And you know, people some people, uh, I
- 4:41Speaker 1: get a lot of positive feedback about this. Actually, yeah,
- 4:44Speaker 1: I love it. I was. I was shocked people, you know,
- 4:47Speaker 1: some of my peers, other CEOs h some HR folks,
- 4:51Speaker 1: customers have reached out or I've run it to them
- 4:53Speaker 1: and the like, you know, hey, I see your thing.
- 4:55Speaker 1: It's you know, it's really great. It's fun. It's entertaining,
- 4:58Speaker 1: which is all we're really trying be right, It's just
- 5:01Speaker 1: it's just entertaining.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Sure, M sure, yeah, no, I said for sure.
- 5:09Speaker 1: So I guess what I'm what I the intent is
- 5:16Speaker 1: like not to make fun of anybody. Yeah, but you know,
- 5:22Speaker 1: people at work blowing stuff up is funny. Yeah, And
- 5:25Speaker 1: I think it's funny because it's real because we everybody's
- 5:28Speaker 1: experienced somebody just kind of flame it out and sometimes
- 5:31Speaker 1: the person's just flaky. Other times they've just had it right,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and so it's you know, they chose to to flake
- 5:38Speaker 1: out and do whatever. So but the last.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Lady on the last episode where it was like a
- 5:42Speaker 2: personal thing in her life, and she burned down her
- 5:44Speaker 2: boyfriend's house for cheating on her and what Yeah, you
- 5:47Speaker 2: don't remember that last episode. She had nothing to do
- 5:49Speaker 2: with work, she was a great employee. She just burned
- 5:52Speaker 2: her boyfriend's helstone because he was chooting. It's like, you
- 5:55Speaker 2: just never know.
- 5:55Speaker 5: Oh, it's pretty reasonable if you asked, mate, yeah.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Core, He's like, go ahead, girl, you got it.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Yeah, oh my god. All right, So submit your stories.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Be the you know, if we select you as the
- 6:08Speaker 1: number one story, win ten thousand bucks. Legs get started.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So here we go. I got one. During our interviews,
- 6:17Speaker 1: we always had a standard interview question. We asked all candidates,
- 6:21Speaker 1: tell me how you handle conflict at work. It's a
- 6:25Speaker 1: good question, all right. And this one moment, this one
- 6:28Speaker 1: woman was interviewing, when asked that question, looked at me
- 6:32Speaker 1: dead in the eye and says, my philosophy. I don't
- 6:35Speaker 1: get mad. I get even me and the couler interviewer
- 6:41Speaker 1: kind of do this nervous little laugh like, oh that's
- 6:45Speaker 1: that's that's a good one. Yeah. Nice. And she was
- 6:48Speaker 1: not joking, and she told us, no, no, I'm not joking.
- 6:54Speaker 1: She immediately follows it up with a story band how
- 6:56Speaker 1: she got into a beef with an accounted at her
- 6:59Speaker 1: last job and she got revenge on him by sabotaging
- 7:03Speaker 1: one of his PowerPoint presentations on purpose. And when she finished,
- 7:08Speaker 1: there was this moment where we both were sitting there thinking, Okay, yeah, no,
- 7:13Speaker 1: we got it. So we thanked her for her time
- 7:16Speaker 1: and we walked her out. I stood at the door
- 7:18Speaker 1: and watched her get into her car, because up until
- 7:21Speaker 1: that exact question, she had been doing amazing. Now I
- 7:25Speaker 1: was sitting there thinking, Wow, this person is crushing this interview.
- 7:29Speaker 1: And then you know, right up until she was bragging
- 7:33Speaker 1: about getting even with a coworkers. Lord, I don't know.
- 7:37Speaker 1: People blow up their interviews.
- 7:39Speaker 3: This list sounds like the Taylor Swift song.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I think sometimes I think sometimes interviewers are so good
- 7:44Speaker 1: right they make I think it's just like part of
- 7:48Speaker 1: the craft or something, you know, but they get that,
- 7:51Speaker 1: you know, they get you from being like nervous and
- 7:54Speaker 1: being like on point and got every answer, and they
- 7:56Speaker 1: start making you think they're your friends.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Yep, you're comfortable with.
- 7:59Speaker 1: The You're like, yeah, yeah, let me tell you this story.
- 8:04Speaker 1: You're just like straight take.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I think it's like it's I think it's like some
- 8:10Speaker 1: magic They run on you in an interview and they
- 8:12Speaker 1: get somebody to just finally let it down. I don't know.
- 8:16Speaker 1: I think that's pretty cool.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Before we dive back into the chaos on the bad hire,

- 9:00Speaker 1: All right, Morgan, what do you got? All Right?
- 9:03Speaker 2: I had an interview scheduled with a candidate one morning,
- 9:05Speaker 2: but I got stuck in traffic, So I'm hurrying to
- 9:07Speaker 2: the office, definitely going a little bit over the speed limit,
- 9:10Speaker 2: speeding about five or ten over while I'm still a
- 9:12Speaker 2: couple of miles away from when I noticed this person.
- 9:15Speaker 2: In a Blue Niece song, riding my bumper like right
- 9:18Speaker 2: on me. Then at a light, they whip around me
- 9:21Speaker 2: in the bike lane and the woman flips me the bird.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Then I end up behind her the entire rest of
- 9:27Speaker 2: the drive. I think we can kind of tell where
- 9:28Speaker 2: this is going. Same turns, same route, and then she
- 9:32Speaker 2: pulls into our office parking lot, and in that moment,
- 9:34Speaker 2: it starts.
- 9:35Speaker 1: To hit me.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Wait, no way, this is the candidate I'm about.
- 9:39Speaker 1: No.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Sure enough, she walks into the building and I realized
- 9:45Speaker 2: this is a person I'm interviewing.
- 9:47Speaker 3: She didn't see me pulling.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Behind her, but she's sitting in the lobby totally composed,
- 9:52Speaker 2: ready to go, either playing it off or genuinely oblivious
- 9:56Speaker 2: that she just flipped off her interviewer five minutes ago.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Was the most wild part. She killed the interview, everyone
- 10:02Speaker 2: liked her, and she got the job.
- 10:04Speaker 1: No way, Wow, I don't know. I love to blow
- 10:10Speaker 1: up my blow up the interview stories. I think they're
- 10:12Speaker 1: like some of my favorite for sure. Well, props props
- 10:17Speaker 1: to her for getting the job. Literally supercame flipping the lily.
- 10:24Speaker 1: She was spot on. I guess at the end they
- 10:26Speaker 1: were like, man, I mean she's got sy. Yeah, shelder
- 10:30Speaker 1: if she saw that the person pull up, you know,
- 10:33Speaker 1: like they roll in together, and then she had to
- 10:36Speaker 1: have recognized her later. Yeah, like, oh my god, I
- 10:40Speaker 1: flipped this lady off earlier.
- 10:41Speaker 3: I would have apologized if.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I wonder if she apologized. Like, first thing, she starts
- 10:45Speaker 1: this excuse my TV aps under so much pressure to
- 10:49Speaker 1: get here. It was so excited about this job. Oh
- 10:54Speaker 1: my gosh, she had whatever it took. Yeah, sure, all right, Corey,
- 10:59Speaker 1: you you Europe? What do you got for us? Alright?
- 11:02Speaker 5: So I once had a candidate tell me she quit
- 11:06Speaker 5: her last job because she was in a hostile work environment.
- 11:09Speaker 5: So I'm thinking, all right, we'll dig into that later,
- 11:12Speaker 5: we'll ask follow ups, we'll call references if we get
- 11:14Speaker 5: that far. Spoiler, she didn't get that far, so because
- 11:20Speaker 5: about two questions later, we asked, what's your level of
- 11:23Speaker 5: experience with Excel? And she immediately launches into this rant
- 11:27Speaker 5: about the tyranny of technology and why does everything have
- 11:30Speaker 5: to be done on.
- 11:31Speaker 1: A computer these days? This is for a computer.
- 11:33Speaker 5: Office job, by the way, and it turns out that
- 11:37Speaker 5: despite putting proficient and Microsoft Office Suite on her resume,
- 11:42Speaker 5: she hated computers. She tried to avoid using them whenever possible,
- 11:46Speaker 5: And it turns out the hostile work environment, which us
- 11:48Speaker 5: her employer asking her to use a computer aka to
- 11:53Speaker 5: do her job.
- 11:55Speaker 1: So get that far. You just make yourself up a resume, right,
- 12:00Speaker 1: you just told it? Bake up everything.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Well, you can't do anything these days, well a computer
- 12:04Speaker 2: some capacity, especially like in corporate or a computer job.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Like what did she expect.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Saying you're planning to be a driver. Yeah, and you
- 12:13Speaker 1: don't have a driver's license.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't drive. I don't like it.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I want to go into sales, but I don't like speaking. Yes,
- 12:22Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that's hilarious.
- 12:23Speaker 3: We do have a video to react to today too.
- 12:25Speaker 1: All right, let's do you do all right?
- 12:27Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 12:27Speaker 1: Cool?
- 12:28Speaker 3: We got it all up in cute.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I think who did this? Who did this segment with her?
- 12:32Speaker 3: Nathan did?
- 12:33Speaker 1: Yeah? Okay cool, all right, let's check her out. Who
- 12:36Speaker 1: is it? Do we know? Gosh?
- 12:39Speaker 3: I know her last time is a Nausia. I'll have
- 12:42Speaker 3: to remember her first name.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Well, thank you to her for.
- 12:46Speaker 3: She might introduce herself in this.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Okay, very cool.
- 12:49Speaker 6: We were hiring for a marketing manager. This marketing manager
- 12:52Speaker 6: was supposed to represent the region of North America. I
- 12:55Speaker 6: was working for a multi public Austro own company and
- 13:00Speaker 6: this role was really big. Between me and my manager,
- 13:02Speaker 6: we were like, okay, we know the nuance of Australian culture,
- 13:06Speaker 6: but also North America. How do we figure this out?
- 13:09Speaker 6: So we did rely in the agency the first time.
- 13:11Speaker 6: I think the theme of this is agencies could only
- 13:14Speaker 6: go so far as an HR person, you really need to.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Be more involved.
- 13:18Speaker 6: We found someone really quick. It was actually someone from
- 13:21Speaker 6: Netflix and this person who fit the bill perfect. So
- 13:25Speaker 6: this person sat right across from me, really sweet person. Well,
- 13:30Speaker 6: his first day, he didn't show up on time, and
- 13:33Speaker 6: so I was tasked to call him find out where
- 13:35Speaker 6: he was. Unfortunately, said that he thought he was supposed
- 13:38Speaker 6: to come out like two hours later. The manager was upset.
- 13:40Speaker 6: I was like, what, okay, he does come in like
- 13:44Speaker 6: an hour later actually, so that was nice. Okay, nine
- 13:48Speaker 6: great and so you know, everything went smoothly from there.
- 13:50Speaker 6: First day not bad. The next day he never showed up,
- 13:55Speaker 6: so I was tasked to call him again and asked
- 13:57Speaker 6: everything was okay. On the other end, it kind of
- 14:00Speaker 6: sounds I don't know, like and like he like he
- 14:03Speaker 6: was drawn like hungover. I don't know, and he said,
- 14:05Speaker 6: I think I could work from home today and this
- 14:08Speaker 6: is pre COVID. Okay, work from home today, but you
- 14:11Speaker 6: need to come in the next day. By the time
- 14:13Speaker 6: he hit Friday, basically he didn't show up. I call
- 14:16Speaker 6: him again and start asking, like, do I really need
- 14:19Speaker 6: to show up to the office. Is there any way
- 14:22Speaker 6: we can arrange you like a hybrid model where I
- 14:25Speaker 6: can come in and out And I was like, I'm sorry,
- 14:28Speaker 6: unfortunately you can't. Is everything okay? Like you seem like
- 14:30Speaker 6: something seems wrong, Like is there anything that we can
- 14:33Speaker 6: do to help you? And he hung up. So, unfortunately
- 14:38Speaker 6: I had to be the bad guy and I basically
- 14:40Speaker 6: just said I called him again. I said, hey, you know, unfortunately,
- 14:43Speaker 6: I don't think it's just working now. That was a
- 14:46Speaker 6: night one week nightmare for me and my team, and
- 14:48Speaker 6: so we did take a break. Y'all obviously were like
- 14:50Speaker 6: we need a debrief, we need to rethink what did
- 14:52Speaker 6: we do wrong and what do we want to do better?
- 14:58Speaker 3: People just saying they can, you know, not work at all.
- 15:01Speaker 1: We were talking about this yesterday. This so reminds me
- 15:03Speaker 1: of like the Gregs, the Greg the guy that does
- 15:06Speaker 1: the Million Drinks or yeah, I'm talking about It's Got
- 15:10Speaker 1: the drink company that ceo he he gave. He did
- 15:13Speaker 1: a social media clip recently and he was talking about
- 15:15Speaker 1: how he got suckered in by hiring someone because of
- 15:20Speaker 1: you know, the names on the resume. Yeah, you know,
- 15:22Speaker 1: like big brand names. You're like, oh, they worked at Netflix.
- 15:25Speaker 1: You know, he had Netflix vibe. All you wanted to
- 15:30Speaker 1: do was Netflix and chill. Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Literally that's exactly what he wanted.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, So yeah, that's what you also like
- 15:37Speaker 1: that first Yeah, First, she's like the sweetest person.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Every Yeah, she's so nice for checking in on him,
- 15:44Speaker 2: Like I would have been like the second day, but.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Like, okay, chew literally hey, you know I was like, Wow,
- 15:53Speaker 1: she's the sweetest ever. And then you know by the
- 15:56Speaker 1: third day when you hear you know, because they put
- 15:59Speaker 1: a lot of time, I'm in to that, and you know,
- 16:03Speaker 1: it's got to be that second hand embarrassment thing. The
- 16:06Speaker 1: whole time he's acting up, the recruiters are like, oh
- 16:08Speaker 1: my god, they're so embarrassed for him. For themselves, well, I.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Feel like that pre COVID hybrid model wasn't very popular either,
- 16:17Speaker 2: so I'm sure, Like back then you were like.
- 16:19Speaker 3: What do you like? What what are you asking for? Rude? Like,
- 16:21Speaker 3: I mean now it's a really common thing, but back
- 16:23Speaker 3: then I feel like.
- 16:24Speaker 1: It's really rare. But I loved how they I loved
- 16:26Speaker 1: her at the end she said, they you know, post
- 16:29Speaker 1: OpEd and you know, just looked at it. So what
- 16:33Speaker 1: can we do different? He's like, don't hear from Netflix?
