Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. After ten yard line, second to day, three
- 0:08Speaker 1: wide receivers now in motion as Bumpas left to right,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Julius Jones were single setback Matt Pumpfecks looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line. He throws it into the end zone. Touchdown.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone our ten yard touchdown reception for Puppas and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. What
- 0:33Speaker 1: ut twelves. This is Michael Bumpus and you're listening to
- 0:36Speaker 1: Hot Talk to preview addition Week ten, the Seahawks seven
- 0:40Speaker 1: and two are going back to Callie to play the
- 0:42Speaker 1: forty nine Ers, who are the last undefeated team in
- 0:45Speaker 1: the NFL. But before we get into it, like always,
- 0:48Speaker 1: going to send it over to my producer, Nasa Shelby
- 0:51Speaker 1: for the injury updates. Before we get injuries, Michael, we've
- 0:53Speaker 1: got a couple of roster moose report. The Hawks have
- 0:56Speaker 1: carried seven wide receivers all season because of how much
- 0:58Speaker 1: they liked their depth at that position. But when the
- 1:00Speaker 1: opportunity to add an impact player presented itself, they could
- 1:03Speaker 1: not pass it up, Claiming former first team All Pro
- 1:06Speaker 1: in Pro Bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon off Waivers on Friday,
- 1:10Speaker 1: talented player. You can definitely help this offense. But they
- 1:13Speaker 1: were not done there. The Seahawks also added depth on
- 1:15Speaker 1: the offensive line on Tuesday, activating rookie guard Phil Haynes
- 1:18Speaker 1: from the physically unable to perform list. Unfortunately, rookie receiver
- 1:21Speaker 1: Gary Jennings was waived to make room on the fifty
- 1:24Speaker 1: three man roster. Haynes was a fourth round pick out
- 1:26Speaker 1: of Wake Forrest at a sports hernia surgery in the offseason,
- 1:30Speaker 1: causing him to report and start the year on the pub,
- 1:32Speaker 1: but he has been practicing the last three weeks. In
- 1:35Speaker 1: term of injuries, we're looking pretty good. Pete Carroll said
- 1:38Speaker 1: the expectations for Quittin Jeffson to make it back as
- 1:40Speaker 1: he's going to be a full go this week after
- 1:42Speaker 1: dealing with an oblique injury. Other news, Pete Carroll talked
- 1:45Speaker 1: about Quandary Diggs. He should practice all week. Doesn't know
- 1:48Speaker 1: for sure what that means for Monday, but we're hopeful
- 1:50Speaker 1: he can make a contribution against the forty nine ers.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Josh Gordon is also in a similar boat, as he
- 1:55Speaker 1: made it through walkthrough in practice on Thursday. Lastly, Pete
- 1:59Speaker 1: Carroll said, Ed Dixon is healthy. Now it's just a
- 2:01Speaker 1: question of fitting him on the roster. All right, michae,
- 2:05Speaker 1: let's get into the week ten opponent, like you said.
- 2:06Speaker 1: The San Francisco forty nine Ers a perfect eight and
- 2:09Speaker 1: oh narrowly beat the Arizona Cardinals last Thursday night, twenty eight,
- 2:13Speaker 1: twenty five in a close ball game. And there are
- 2:15Speaker 1: some happy guys in that locker room. Hey guys, man,
- 2:17Speaker 1: you guys are built from anything. Man, all right, we
- 2:19Speaker 1: wanted a lot of different ways, all right. The perseverance
- 2:22Speaker 1: I when went back and forth, guys, you didn't let
- 2:24Speaker 1: up some of those third downs. You guys got it.
- 2:25Speaker 1: In My hat's off to all you guys, many guys,
- 2:28Speaker 1: we got it. We're halfway done, man, halfway done. I
- 2:31Speaker 1: wish we've done a little better on our first half
- 2:33Speaker 1: of I'll take eight and oh all right, all right,
- 2:34Speaker 1: we'll take that. All right, we know we're just halfway there.
- 2:37Speaker 1: We're gonna everyone's off. I don't want to see you
- 2:38Speaker 1: guys till Tuesday, all right, No one's coming into Tuesday.
- 2:41Speaker 1: We'll get you the times in and that schedule, all right, buddy,
- 2:48Speaker 1: all right, I want to get game ball here, all right,
- 2:50Speaker 1: Jimmy man Hey, ain't no. They got a whole second
- 3:08Speaker 1: half pins it's gonna make so Michael again, a close game.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Was probably one of the closest games they've had all seasons.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So what did you see out of those the Niners
- 3:19Speaker 1: last week? What did I see out of the Niners?
- 3:21Speaker 1: Jimmy Garoppolo through for three hundred and seventeen yards and
- 3:24Speaker 1: four touchdowns in that game against the Arizona Cardinals, And
- 3:28Speaker 1: going into this game, that was the last test for me.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I wanted to see if Jimmy g could win a
- 3:33Speaker 1: game for his football team. And throwing four picks and
- 3:36Speaker 1: no turnovers kind of puts him in that lane of
- 3:39Speaker 1: winning football games for his team. Uh. The San Francisco's
- 3:42Speaker 1: at the halfway point, they're eight, No, they're dangerous. They
- 3:44Speaker 1: battled back to beat an Arizona Cardinals team twenty eight
- 3:47Speaker 1: to twenty five. It was a game. It was the
- 3:49Speaker 1: first time, I mean they had a close game against
- 3:51Speaker 1: the Redskins earlier in the year, but that game was
- 3:54Speaker 1: just it was a mud pit, it was pouring rain.
- 3:56Speaker 1: This was the first time that they've really been tested,
- 3:58Speaker 1: and they were dominating most of the game. But they
- 4:00Speaker 1: definitely left the door open for the Cardinals come back,
- 4:03Speaker 1: and it was definitely came down to the wire. Yes,
- 4:04Speaker 1: it did. They fell down seven zho at halftime, but
- 4:07Speaker 1: responded with three touchdowns as time expired in the second quarter, though,
- 4:11Speaker 1: the head coach with the Cardinals, Cliff Kinsbury, called it
- 4:13Speaker 1: time out with seconds left on the clock on the
- 4:16Speaker 1: fourth down, which gave the Niners another opportunity to score. Now,
- 4:19Speaker 1: to the untrained eye, this looks like a huge mistake,
- 4:22Speaker 1: which I kind of agree with because of the timing
- 4:25Speaker 1: of the timeout. I feel if he calls it time
- 4:27Speaker 1: out before the play he's even ran, then there's no
- 4:31Speaker 1: speculation about what could have been because they scored on that.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I think he saw something in the defense and say, hey,
- 4:37Speaker 1: let's match up here, let's make a move there. His
- 4:40Speaker 1: mistake was he called the timeout too late and gave
- 4:43Speaker 1: the Niners a second chance to get in the end zone,
- 4:45Speaker 1: which they did. Yeah, it's it's hindsight, right, hindsight twenty twenty.
- 4:48Speaker 1: You look at it and it's after the play. Obviously,
- 4:50Speaker 1: if they would have scored on that play, it would
- 4:51Speaker 1: have been a great time out right. No one would
- 4:53Speaker 1: be saying anything about it because they get a stop.
- 4:55Speaker 1: He probably saw something he didn't like. Someone on the headset.
- 4:57Speaker 1: It's unfortunate for them and ended up in seven points
- 5:00Speaker 1: for the nine Ers. Yeah, sir. The forty Nineers were
- 5:02Speaker 1: in control until about five minutes left in the fourth
- 5:04Speaker 1: quarter when Andy Isabella caught a short pass and win
- 5:07Speaker 1: eighty eight yards to the house. And that's what we need.
- 5:10Speaker 1: The Hawks need a big play like so caught him
- 5:14Speaker 1: in a man defense. Nice little slant. Get the ball
- 5:17Speaker 1: to your playmakers early. The rest us all Isabella. I
- 5:20Speaker 1: think we have a couple of guys who can do that. Yeah,
- 5:23Speaker 1: I think we might. You know, sixteen fourteen, a couple
- 5:26Speaker 1: of guys that can win. Someone on the eighty three
- 5:28Speaker 1: might even get in that mix there. The Cardinals come back,
- 5:31Speaker 1: but fell short when they couldn't get off the field
- 5:33Speaker 1: on several third downs when the last two minutes, and
- 5:36Speaker 1: that is key. If you want to be a top
- 5:38Speaker 1: team in this league, a top defense in this league,
- 5:40Speaker 1: you have to get off the field on third downs,
- 5:42Speaker 1: especially late in the game with menu is left on
- 5:44Speaker 1: the club. Yeah. No, I mean they had their opportunities
- 5:46Speaker 1: because there it was under two minutes. They could have
- 5:48Speaker 1: they got to stop, they would have forced him pun
- 5:49Speaker 1: They could have got the ball back with a minute
- 5:51Speaker 1: thirty and Kylin Murray was trying to figure things out
- 5:53Speaker 1: in that game, so it would have been interesting to
- 5:55Speaker 1: see if he could have brought him back. Unfortunately, defense
- 5:57Speaker 1: can get off the field, and then Jimmy Garoppolo made
- 5:59Speaker 1: him throws. His credit, he made two huge throws in
- 6:02Speaker 1: that drive to get those first downs and get a
- 6:04Speaker 1: win for the forty nine ers. And I just want
- 6:05Speaker 1: to show Kylin Murrays some love real quick. He's coming along.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I hope he doesn't progress too fast because he is
- 6:10Speaker 1: in the division, but he is coming along. I like
- 6:12Speaker 1: his progression. But it was a big loss for the
- 6:14Speaker 1: forty nine ers. Like they lose linebacker Kwan Alexander Whutura
- 6:17Speaker 1: peck muscle against the Cardinals and is done for the season.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Feel sorry for the man, Feel good for the Hawks
- 6:24Speaker 1: because he will not be on the field. Yeah, I
- 6:25Speaker 1: mean their defense has been as good as advertise. Man.
- 6:28Speaker 1: You watch them, and as the season went on, you're
- 6:30Speaker 1: kind of like, Okay, we'll see, we'll see too a
- 6:32Speaker 1: play somebody, We'll see, but a eight games. It's like
- 6:34Speaker 1: the Seahawks. They plays on their schedule and they beat
- 6:37Speaker 1: everyone on their schedule. So it's gonna Quan not being
- 6:40Speaker 1: out there is definitely not gonna hurt the Seahawks's not
- 6:42Speaker 1: gonna hurt him at all. So let's move over to
- 6:43Speaker 1: the key matchups. First one, Jimmy Garoppolo versus everybody who
- 6:48Speaker 1: is Jimmy. He started his career fourteen and two as
- 6:51Speaker 1: a forty nine er starting QB, which is super impressive.
- 6:55Speaker 1: He's played a full season basically as a forty nine er.
- 6:58Speaker 1: He is fourteen and two. A may be pretty all
- 7:00Speaker 1: the time, but he is showing that he can win
- 7:03Speaker 1: games for this ball club. The first time, it really
- 7:06Speaker 1: looked like he put the team on his back and
- 7:08Speaker 1: won the game for the forty nine ers. Like I
- 7:09Speaker 1: said earlier, this was a game that I needed to
- 7:12Speaker 1: see out of him to make me a full believer
- 7:14Speaker 1: of Jimmy g through for three hundred and seventeen yards,
- 7:17Speaker 1: four touchdowns. No pigs is key. You do not turn
- 7:20Speaker 1: the ball over, you have a great chance of winning
- 7:22Speaker 1: a ball game. He's had thirteen passing touchdowns on the
- 7:25Speaker 1: year with just seven interceptions. Not super impressive, but he's
- 7:28Speaker 1: getting it done. Yeah, he's like I said, he is
- 7:30Speaker 1: doing what they need to do for him to win.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And some people I hate putting the term game manager.
- 7:35Speaker 1: People try to put that on him earlier in the year.
- 7:37Speaker 1: And like you just said, he finally did what he
- 7:39Speaker 1: had to do to win a game because he won
- 7:41Speaker 1: that game for the forty nine ers. And it's not
- 7:43Speaker 1: just that's just the outside. Everyone in the forty nine
- 7:46Speaker 1: ers locker room is one hundred percent Boden. This is
- 7:49Speaker 1: his star tight end George Kittle talking about his faith
- 7:51Speaker 1: in Jimmy g he's pretty good. I don't know why
- 7:53Speaker 1: people don't think he is. He makes some pretty gutsy
- 7:56Speaker 1: throws out there, doesn't he. Goodness, gracious, I can't say
- 7:59Speaker 1: enough about just how he brings us along, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 1: just whether it's on the sideline or in the huddle,
- 8:03Speaker 1: and you know, the leadership that he has, but the
- 8:04Speaker 1: fire that he has to just kind of just gets
- 8:07Speaker 1: some people going. And just to see him, you know,
- 8:11Speaker 1: make those plays and you know, allow him to get
- 8:13Speaker 1: those people off his back that you know, say, hey, hey,
- 8:15Speaker 1: maybe he's not you know, you know what we think
- 8:17Speaker 1: he is. When you know everyone in this building or
- 8:19Speaker 1: in our locker knows what he is. It's just it's
- 8:22Speaker 1: fun to see that he gets the people going, this
- 8:24Speaker 1: is what he says. What's what's up with tight Ends?
- 8:26Speaker 1: Tight Ends might have the best personalities in the NFL
- 8:29Speaker 1: right now. Yeah, man, it's just there's something about it.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Obviously we know in our locker room. Luke Wilson has
- 8:34Speaker 1: that unlock you had back in the day, you had
- 8:36Speaker 1: Grontkowski before he went away, you got kiddled. They're just
- 8:38Speaker 1: something about him, man, they got that juice. Yeah, I'm
- 8:40Speaker 1: feeling the tight end swag right now. The Seahawks. They
- 8:43Speaker 1: got to generate some pressure on this guy who was
- 8:45Speaker 1: seventy percent. He has completed seven percent of his passes
- 8:48Speaker 1: on the season. Jimmy g gonna have to put some
- 8:51Speaker 1: pressure on him another matchup. These guys have a great
- 8:53Speaker 1: backfield with Britta and Coleman verse the Seahawks front seven.
- 8:57Speaker 1: These are tough, physical runners. Matt Britta rush for five
- 9:00Speaker 1: hundred twenty seven yards and one touchdown on the season, Meanwhile,
- 9:04Speaker 1: Coleman has russ for three fifty five and five touchdowns
- 9:07Speaker 1: on the season. The Seahawks need to continue to stop
- 9:09Speaker 1: the run like they've done so far this year. They've
- 9:12Speaker 1: been pretty good at it. Yeah, the really the only
- 9:14Speaker 1: time they had tough time stop in the run was
- 9:15Speaker 1: against the Ravens, and that was because of the quarterback.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And everybody does Patriots. Yeah, everyone should in Seattle should
- 9:21Speaker 1: feel a lot better about that game after watching the
- 9:23Speaker 1: Patriots has past Sunday night, and everyone in this league
- 9:27Speaker 1: is having a tough time stop on Lamar. We're not
- 9:28Speaker 1: going to see someone like him unless it's in a
- 9:31Speaker 1: Dayton February, which I would love to have. But until then,
- 9:35Speaker 1: that's really the only game that they've struggled to stop
- 9:37Speaker 1: the runs. So they need to keep up what they've
- 9:38Speaker 1: been doing. Keep doing what you're doing the next matchup,
- 9:40Speaker 1: George's Kittle Emmanuel Sanders versed the Seahawks secondary without question
- 9:45Speaker 1: Jimmy Gee's favorite target. This guy burst into the scene
- 9:48Speaker 1: last year, and I like to see that he hasn't
- 9:52Speaker 1: fallen off as as an analyst. I like to see
- 9:54Speaker 1: that he hasn't fallen off as a Seahawks supporter. It
- 9:58Speaker 1: scares me a little bit. He has four six receptions
- 10:00Speaker 1: for five hundred forty one yards and two touchdowns. The
- 10:04Speaker 1: next closest receiver has twenty two receptions, which means they've
- 10:08Speaker 1: been leaning heavily on Emmanuel Sanders these last two weeks. Yeah,
- 10:12Speaker 1: and that's that addition. When when I first saw that,
- 10:14Speaker 1: I was like, oh, because the rest of the receivers,
- 10:18Speaker 1: they have good players over there, Dante Pettister, former U
- 10:20Speaker 1: dub guy. They got good receivers, but the edition of
- 10:22Speaker 1: Sanders is definitely something that changes their offense. Kyle Shanahan
- 10:27Speaker 1: talked about how good Sanders has been to start the year. Ah, yes,
- 10:31Speaker 1: I mean he I mean watching him, you always know
- 10:34Speaker 1: he's a pro, but I mean he's even been better
- 10:37Speaker 1: than expected, you know, since he's been here. Just how
- 10:39Speaker 1: unbelievably smart he's been in picking up the offense and
- 10:42Speaker 1: being able to go out there them much and especially
- 10:44Speaker 1: here on a short weekend. That game would have been
- 10:46Speaker 1: real tough to win him without him. And how hard
- 10:48Speaker 1: is that you come into a brand new team in
- 10:49Speaker 1: there for two weeks and you're already one of their
- 10:51Speaker 1: top threats on offense. You know, he's a veteran. He's
- 10:54Speaker 1: wre thirty two, thirty three years old. Isn't his first rodeo,
- 10:57Speaker 1: so I could imagine that the offensive term and aology.
- 11:00Speaker 1: There probably are some things that he had to learn,
- 11:02Speaker 1: but for the most part, he's been in a few
- 11:04Speaker 1: offenses and he's a bet he'll pick it up. He's
- 11:07Speaker 1: a complete route runner. This guy can run a go,
- 11:09Speaker 1: he can run a post, and can do the underneath stuff.
- 11:11Speaker 1: He can give him a jet sweep um like the
- 11:14Speaker 1: way this guy's playing. The biggest matchup of the game
- 11:18Speaker 1: this Monday will be this forty nine Ers defensive line
- 11:22Speaker 1: versus Seahawk offensive line. They got Nick Bosa, they got
- 11:26Speaker 1: Eric Armstead, D four Forrest Buckner. I mean, any any
- 11:30Speaker 1: of these guys can get to the quarterback and do
- 11:32Speaker 1: it in a hurry. They're super explosives. No, they just
- 11:35Speaker 1: make they make their hey in the backfield. You watch
- 11:37Speaker 1: all these games, Bosa has been unblockable like guys cannot.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I mean he should have probably if he hasn't missed
- 11:43Speaker 1: a couple, he could have thirteen fourteen sacks already. And
- 11:46Speaker 1: then it goes for everyone on that defensive line. Every
- 11:49Speaker 1: single matchup whether it's Dwayne Brown whereas d J. Fluker,
- 11:53Speaker 1: Joey Hunt, Jermaine Effetti, everyone on that offensive line is
- 11:56Speaker 1: gonna have to win their battles on every single play.
- 12:00Speaker 1: The Hawks win this ball game if the old line
- 12:03Speaker 1: takes care of business. In my opinion, this group has
- 12:05Speaker 1: produced twenty two sacks on the season. Very dangerous. Let's
- 12:10Speaker 1: go old line, bow up and get it done. Richard
- 12:13Speaker 1: Sherman versus Russell Wilson, Now this isn't probably the most
- 12:16Speaker 1: important matchup, but it's probably the most interesting matchup because
- 12:20Speaker 1: you know where Sherman brings that that moxie, that attitude,
- 12:23Speaker 1: that relentlessness, and he's low key balling this year too,
- 12:27Speaker 1: so I'm sure he's excited and he's gonna get up
- 12:29Speaker 1: for the Hawks as well well. Of course, I mean
- 12:31Speaker 1: everyone in this market knows what Richard Sherman can do
- 12:33Speaker 1: in the football field. And his first year last year,
- 12:36Speaker 1: he was kind of quiet because the Niners are going
- 12:38Speaker 1: through some growing pains to lost Garoppolo. But now they're
- 12:40Speaker 1: balling and now you can see some of his swags,
- 12:43Speaker 1: some of his demeanor rubbing off on the rest of
- 12:45Speaker 1: the guys. Because the scariest thing about them to me
- 12:48Speaker 1: is how much confidence they're playing. Every single person on
- 12:51Speaker 1: that team is playing with swag. They're confident of what
- 12:54Speaker 1: they're doing. I think Sharmon brought a lot of that
- 12:56Speaker 1: culture to that defense. Yeah, Sherman has done a great
- 12:58Speaker 1: job influence, influence, wincing that defense. And like you said,
- 13:01Speaker 1: they're playing with swag. They're flying to the ball, they're celebrating,
- 13:04Speaker 1: they're having fun. When a team is having fun like
- 13:06Speaker 1: they are, they're very dangerous. Reminds me of a team
- 13:09Speaker 1: they used to play in the Northwest back in the day.
- 13:11Speaker 1: So path to victory, you gotta mix it up on defense.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Find a way to get to the quarterback health. The
- 13:17Speaker 1: DBS make some plays. Make life hard on Jimmy. Don't
- 13:20Speaker 1: let him sit there and look all pretty and pat
- 13:22Speaker 1: the ball three times and throw the rob make him move,
- 13:25Speaker 1: make him throw into tight windows, make him uncomfortable. I
- 13:28Speaker 1: think that is key this week. Also, run the football
- 13:31Speaker 1: as the Hawks do every single week. Don't give up
- 13:34Speaker 1: on it. The first half last week was tough. I
- 13:36Speaker 1: think Carson had eight carries for under sixty yards. Second
- 13:39Speaker 1: half bum exploding to the seam. The Hawks end up
- 13:42Speaker 1: with over one hundred forty yards to be disciming with
- 13:44Speaker 1: the run. Russell needs to play like an MVP. I mean,
- 13:48Speaker 1: I appreciate the five touchdowns no picks last week. I'll
- 13:51Speaker 1: take three or four no no no picks this week
- 13:53Speaker 1: as well. Of course. I mean he's a guy for
- 13:55Speaker 1: us to win our games. He's got to play like
- 13:57Speaker 1: he's capable of playing. And he's done that, and he's
- 14:00Speaker 1: Everyone in the NFL is on notice. If Russell just
- 14:03Speaker 1: does what he does, nothing crazy, he does nothing to
- 14:04Speaker 1: go and be a different person. That's just who he is.
- 14:07Speaker 1: If Russell is who he is, then we got a
- 14:09Speaker 1: great shot. Got a great shot again. We just talked
- 14:11Speaker 1: about it. The on line must be on point. I
- 14:14Speaker 1: don't care if it's Jamarco, if it's Dwayne, if it's
- 14:17Speaker 1: a fetty, if his hunt. Gotta come together and play
- 14:21Speaker 1: cohesive football and make this team work and protect your
- 14:24Speaker 1: guy in the back. Russell was hit eleven times last game,
- 14:27Speaker 1: which is tough. And with his defensive line, when he
- 14:30Speaker 1: gets hit, he's gonna fill it. So protect your boy,
- 14:33Speaker 1: keep them standing up. Continue their dominance on Primetime TV
- 14:36Speaker 1: on Monday Night. The Hawks are twenty four and ten
- 14:39Speaker 1: all time on Monday Night in twelve and two in
- 14:42Speaker 1: their last fourteen games, which is super impressive. Well, their
- 14:44Speaker 1: Monday Night record is the best in the history of
- 14:46Speaker 1: the NFL with at least you know, thirty or some games,
- 14:48Speaker 1: so and whatever. For whatever reason, we've talked about this before,
- 14:52Speaker 1: Pete just gets it done in prime time because they
