- 1:25The WADA tae. Thank you.
- 1:31Oh. My God, thank you so much for
- 1:33being here. Local comedian and just person
- 1:38extraordinaire. It's true, I do get it,
- 1:41peopleing. And I love the frames of your
- 1:43glasses. I said it before and I'll say it
- 1:44again. Thank you so much.
- 1:45You're so welcome. What's up with you?
- 1:48What's going on? Not much, you know, like in in a
- 1:52big I've been chilling. I've been getting back to self
- 1:55and eating breakfast. Oh my God, that's huge.
- 1:59What do you like to eat for breakfast?
- 2:01I like to eat Trader Joe's hash Browns.
- 2:04Yum. Trader Joe's chicken sausages
- 2:06patties. Nice.
- 2:08And just egg. I can't eat regular eggs, so I
- 2:11have to eat. That's right.
- 2:12You have to eat just egg. Yeah.
- 2:14That's right. Plant based, it is.
- 2:16And then like it. It's nice if I have like a
- 2:18biscuit, like something sweet. Yeah.
- 2:20Almond croissant. Yeah, a a breakfast dessert, a
- 2:23little treat to start the day. A little treaty treat.
- 2:26Because you deserve. It we all do.
- 2:28Now I get a treat exactly. Because I'm a good human.
- 2:32Because you did it. Because you treating.
- 2:33My human good. Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:35Yeah. And God bless, that's been nice.
- 2:38I'm so glad to hear that, and you deserve it.
- 2:39You deserve every bite of that hash brown and every moment of
- 2:45peace and bless that you're finding in your chill life.
- 2:49Thank you so much. Thank you.
- 2:51I appreciate. It you seem zanned out.
- 2:53Yeah, I feel pretty. I, I don't know, when I got down
- 2:56here, I just, I just started to relax.
- 2:59I'm like, yeah. That's what we want here.
- 3:01That's what we want here at the studio.
- 3:04I rode the bus here and sometimes that makes me a little
- 3:07tired. No kidding.
- 3:09It you're like a baby, it'll lull your.
- 3:10Right to sleep, to be a moving vehicle.
- 3:12And then we went past Colfax and I woke the fuck up, you know?
- 3:18And I was like, get up. Oh my God, I'm about to have a
- 3:20sleep study done because I snore like crazy and I'm thinking, OK,
- 3:26maybe I do have sleep apnea. Maybe I am not breathing in the
- 3:30night, but who's to say because I'm not there, I'm asleep.
- 3:34But I had to do the screening with my doctor and they're like,
- 3:36OK, so how likely is it that you would fall asleep when you're a
- 3:41passenger riding in the car? I'm like likely.
- 3:45And they're like, how about when you're driving the car?
- 3:48I said not likely, but I'm glad that they asked that.
- 3:51I'm glad that they asked because I am like a baby in that it's
- 3:55really easy for me to fall asleep in a car, plane, bus,
- 3:58train. Everything.
- 3:59And it is one of my better qualities.
- 4:01A lot of people are jealous of that.
- 4:03When you get on the plane and they say you can sleep on the
- 4:05plane immediately, just wanna just knock me out.
- 4:08What else am I doing on this plane?
- 4:10Truly watching. Working on a laptop am I?
- 4:13Working. Paying $8 for 30 minutes of
- 4:17Wi-Fi? No thanks.
- 4:19I wanna have a dream. Yeah, I wanna dream that I'm
- 4:22already where I'm supposed to go.
- 4:26Wake up. That's time travel.
- 4:27Wake up when the hit wheels hit. Yeah.
- 4:29And I'm like OK, good, every this is good.
- 4:32I'm either waking up when the wheels hit or in heaven.
- 4:34I don't know. Yeah, yeah, either way.
- 4:36And either way, I'm gonna be dreaming in the meantime, you
- 4:39know? Yeah.
- 4:40Well, I like this. I like.
- 4:41They're on the same page. Me too, yeah.
- 4:43So you decided to talk about Pootie Tang today.
- 4:48You. You suggested it and I said, Oh
- 4:51my God, can't believe it wasn't even on my list, wasn't even a
- 4:54consideration. And I'm so glad that you did.
- 4:57What made you want to talk about Pootie Tang today?
- 5:00And what is your history with Pootie Tang?
- 5:01Woof, I was thinking about it because it came out in 2001 in.
- 5:07911. No, it's AI.
- 5:11It's a different time. It's a different.
- 5:12Time. It was a different time because
- 5:14how did I watch that movie? I don't know.
- 5:16I don't know. I know.
- 5:18I then again the next year had a birthday party.
- 5:20I made my mom rent it. We watched it.
- 5:23You. You and the kids.
- 5:24Me and the kids watched it at my party.
- 5:26I was probably like 10. That's so funny.
- 5:28That's and she said, you know what?
- 5:31Pootie Tang is here for the kids.
- 5:33He says don't do drugs, don't drink brown liquor and don't
- 5:41smoke cigarettes. And.
- 5:42And your parent said, yeah, yeah, that's a message for
- 5:47Chanel for yeah. And the kids, maybe that's the
- 5:49only part. Yeah, maybe my mom watched.
- 5:51I was like, why did you? That's so funny but if I'm if
- 5:54I'm 10 I'm laughing my little ass off watching this.
- 5:58I didn't watch it when I was 10. I was much older.
- 6:00And I honestly don't think I've sat down to watch it, like cover
- 6:04to cover. You know, it's one of those
- 6:06movies where it's like, I've seen like parts of it on TV, but
- 6:11I haven't like, sat down and been like, OK, I'm watching
- 6:13Pootie Tang. So this time was different.
- 6:17Yeah, I and then in high school, my friend had the VHSI used to
- 6:22watch it like every day. I knew all the words.
- 6:24Oh my God. And then, like, I got older and
- 6:28I would tell people like, that's my favorite movie.
- 6:30Yeah. And they'd be like, that's funny
- 6:32because you don't even smoke weed.
- 6:34This was what I was. This was when I was, yeah, like,
- 6:38I was. I didn't start.
- 6:39I was probably like, 26 when I started smoking for real.
- 6:41But they were like, why is this your favorite movie?
- 6:43And you don't do drugs? And I was like, that's my
- 6:47personality. This is a part of it.
- 6:49OK. And.
- 6:49What was it like watching it again now as an adult who smokes
- 6:54weed? It's so funny.
- 6:58It cracks me up. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:00It cracks me up. I think I just love, like,
- 7:03remembering that little inner child of myself when I'm
- 7:06watching these. Yeah, that's cute.
- 7:08Like, they make you feel good and then you're like, this is so
- 7:10stupid. Yeah.
- 7:12But I'm happy I can still enjoy stupid shit, you know?
- 7:15We, I mean, look, in this economy, we have to.
- 7:18OK, OK. Of course.
- 7:22This was written and directed by Louis CK Big bummer.
- 7:26Big bummer. Right off.
- 7:27The We didn't know when we were nine.
- 7:29We. Didn't know.
- 7:30We didn't know it was state-of-the-art.
- 7:33A lot of people in Hollywood knew, I'll say that.
- 7:35They didn't even tell us. But they didn't tell us until
- 7:38much later. And even when they told us, we
- 7:40said, I don't know, I guess he's not that bad.
- 7:42Yeah. He's Are you guys sure?
- 7:44I didn't say that I didn't. Say that I said, yeah, honest,
- 7:47you know, you know that, like, you're a bad person.
- 7:52When news or allegations come out about you being, like, a
- 7:56sexual predator and people say, yeah, that adds up.
- 7:58Yeah. You know, like when people are
- 8:00not surprised, if someone's not surprised to hear it, that's
- 8:05tough. That's.
- 8:06Pretty bad. A person who has dated men.
- 8:09Oh yeah, I've had men with way less money.
- 8:13Yeah. Do some like the audacity old
- 8:15man. And now you're you think you're
- 8:17somebody. Yeah.
- 8:18So I'm like, yeah, I've had, you know, guys who've done that type
- 8:22of shit and I'm like, what the. So I'm like, yeah, yeah, sounds
- 8:26like truth. Sounds like sounds like a man
- 8:29would. Sounds like things are on track,
- 8:32yeah? So he came up with this idea
- 8:35when he was So it's a character. Pootie Tang, of course, is a
- 8:40character from the Chris Rock show, the sketch show.
- 8:43And Louis was a writer on the show at that time.
- 8:46And the guy who plays Pootie Tang is actually, he also was a
- 8:49writer on the show. He's not like an actor, actor,
- 8:53obviously he acted in this film, but his main thing was writing.
- 8:57He was kind of just like, you know, slated in as a character
- 9:00during the show. And of course, like really all
- 9:06sketches that are turned into a feature film.
- 9:12It was a big fat flop and everyone kind of hated it when
- 9:18it came out. And look, I kind of when I
- 9:21watched it, I wanted to hate it. I wanted to come in and be like,
- 9:26this is exactly why I hate this movie.
- 9:30And I just didn't. I didn't hate it.
- 9:33I didn't hate it. I laughed and laughed and
- 9:36laughed it. Yeah, it's it.
- 9:38It's so loosely tied together. It's not a plot and it certainly
- 9:46doesn't work as a feature film. But did I laugh?
- 9:51Yeah. Yeah, you bet I did.
- 9:53Yeah, the the gorilla costume. It's just ridiculous.
- 9:58It's so it's like, I'm not like, oh, put it up.
- 10:01What What do movies get? Oscars?
- 10:03Yeah, they. Do I'm not like doing?
- 10:04Oscar Oh, you know, it's like I can't, can't everybody get,
- 10:08can't every, can't everything be for that?
- 10:10No, no. And not everything should.
- 10:12But you know, what this should have been was 20 years later on
- 10:18Adult Swim is what it should have been.
- 10:21You know, like I think that this would have been better as like
- 10:24a, you know, 10 in 10 minute increments.
- 10:28Oh yeah. Maybe even 5.
- 10:30Little, little snippets of Pootie.
- 10:31Maybe even 2. If they brought it back, yeah,
- 10:34I'd watch it. I know you.
- 10:35I'd watch it so hard. I know you would.
- 10:37Yeah. I'd really TuneIn.
- 10:40I don't know if I'd stick around, but I'd TuneIn to see.
- 10:43Yeah, I get it. Yeah.
- 10:44It's like it's yeah, it's just a goofy.
- 10:47I'm like, he's like, let me see a clip of your new movie and
- 10:49then it's the whole movie. Yeah, that OK, So Bob Costas in
- 10:52the movie, that's how the whole thing is set up.
- 10:54It's so meta because he he's being interviewed by Bob Costas.
- 10:58We're introduced to Pootie Tang. He is he's a multi hyphenate
- 11:01really. He's he's an actor, he's a he's
- 11:04a he's a just like Chanel Hughes.
- 11:06Famously they said Pootie Tang just like Chanel Hughes, a multi
- 11:10hyphenate. He does it all, and he's being
- 11:14interviewed by Bob Costas, who asked him about his movie.
- 11:17He says, all right, let's show a clip.
- 11:19And then that is the whole movie, which as a premise,
- 11:22hilarious. And we don't even.
- 11:25I mean, like, I had forgotten, of course, until the end when we
- 11:28come back. And he's like, yeah, so that's
- 11:30the clip from the movie. Hey, it's so meta that it's a
- 11:35movie within a movie. OK.
- 11:38And it's also like, is it, is it blaxploitation within the satire
- 11:46of blaxploitation of here's the thing, I'm too young to really
- 11:52resonate with like the satirical elements of this because like I,
- 11:59I have, don't really have like a lot of experience with that era
- 12:03of like blaxploitation movies. I don't know, I don't know them.
- 12:06I've never met them, so I don't really know.
- 12:11A lot of the satire stuff, just kind of like, like, I understand
- 12:14conceptually, like what they're satirizing, but I don't have a
- 12:18reference to be like, oh, he's doing that thing that that
- 12:21character did and that. Oh, yeah, I don't know that.
- 12:23Yeah. 'Cause I'm also very young,
- 12:25yeah. So I don't know any of you.
- 12:27Guys are I mean. It's like, I guess it is like,
- 12:30it's a weird movie, right, 'cause as a as like a black kid,
- 12:33I love this movie. And then you grow up and you're
- 12:35like Louis CK. Yeah, that and that's a lot.
- 12:39That's like a lot of that's a lot.
- 12:40That little leprechaun, sorry. But that's a lot of black
- 12:44experience. You're like, who wrote this?
- 12:45And you're like, oh, white, man, White.
- 12:48Yeah. But it was good.
- 12:49It was OK. Not everything, but it was.
- 12:51It was my shit. And here's.
- 12:53The thing too is that like, just when you think I feel kind of
- 12:56guilty for liking this when it was written by a white guy.
- 13:00Don't worry, Louie didn't make any money on this movie.
- 13:03It was a total flop. So, and he personally kind of
- 13:09hates it. He feels like it's such a
- 13:11different version of the movie compared to what he wrote.
- 13:15Cause originally Paramount was going to release this under it's
- 13:18kind of like art house division. It was going to be like an even
- 13:22lower budget. It was going to be a limited
- 13:24release and just like some theaters.
- 13:26But then Austin Powers came out and they were like, well, let's
- 13:29make a black Austin Powers. And, and obviously that didn't
- 13:33work. But the studio came in, took
- 13:38over a lot of stuff. I think a lot of the budget was
- 13:41spent in post production too, because like Louis said that the
- 13:45budget was like 3,000,000 and then they ended up spending like
- 13:50an estimated 7 million. So I think a lot of stuff was
- 13:52done in editing. A lot of stuff was just like
- 13:55left on the cutting room floor or reworked.
- 13:57And so if you like this movie, don't worry.
- 14:01It's not really Louis CK's work anyway, right?
- 14:05Look at this. Look.
- 14:07A loophole. But we know, of course, that the
- 14:09studio executives who were like, let me get my dirty little hands
- 14:13on this. They probably weren't black
- 14:15people. No, no, not at all.
- 14:18Not at all, they said. I think, like, even the
- 14:21characters in this movie really made this movie, right?
- 14:24Like they had some high quality, like even.
- 14:27OK, so the character Pootie Tang, his name is Lance Kruther.
- 14:30He's never been in anything else again.
- 14:32And I'm like, he was so perfect for this.
- 14:34Like for this movie to be such a quirky.
- 14:36Didn't go how was supposed to go?
- 14:38Nothing. And it's like, that's why I came
- 14:40together. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:41You know who I didn't love though in this movie?
- 14:43Chris Rock. He just annoyed me.
- 14:46I'm sorry for you young people. Chris Rock was the one who was
- 14:50slapped by by Will Smith famously at the Oscars.
- 14:56If you don't know who that is, he was the recipient of the slap
- 15:00heard around the world. So.
- 15:03Young people, that's who we're talking about.
- 15:05Young people, honestly, what had honestly, what has he done since
- 15:11he got slapped? Has he done?
- 15:14Did he did. Stand, I think he's done some
- 15:16stand up he's. Been doing stand up.
- 15:17I don't know. Probably he's got to get his
- 15:19check. I can't keep up and I thought so
- 15:25because people wanted to hear him talk about it.
- 15:26I mean, I would, but obviously I didn't care enough because I
- 15:30didn't look into. It well, I know he did like some
- 15:32stuff, but how long has the slap been now I.
- 15:34Mean God, it's been years. Right.
- 15:36Yeah. So anyway, it's been a while
- 15:38since I'd interacted with Mr. Rock on my screen, and I found
- 15:43his characters to be only annoying and not that funny.
- 15:46That's fair. The corn was was OK Daddy Tang
- 15:51was OK. The radio producer guy I said
- 15:56enough, this is too much. Too much for you is too much.
- 16:00The fact that he was like freaking out so much when the
- 16:03song was, if you're, if you're listening to this and not
- 16:08watching it, you're missing out because the song is.
- 16:12That's it. And I thought, we don't need
- 16:16Chris Rock no pants screaming. I didn't.
- 16:21I just thought it was too. He's wild.
- 16:24It's too much. That's.
- 16:25Why? It's like, who was y'all making
- 16:27this for? I don't know, 'cause it couldn't
- 16:30have been adults. No.
- 16:32It couldn't have been especially I feel like adults in the early
- 16:362000s were serious. I wonder, like, OK, let me ask
- 16:40you this. Who do you think Austin Powers
- 16:42is made for? I didn't really watch that.
- 16:46No, OK. Coming up.
- 16:48Yeah. So that's what I'm saying.
- 16:49I'm like, I feel like that was more for it was all this stuff
- 16:54is for kids, right? Because it's stupid.
- 16:57Because it's stupid. It's so stupid, but I feel like
- 17:00that humor was more mainstream. Yeah, you know.
- 17:04Yeah, yeah. So that's fair.
- 17:07Yeah, but it's like Chris Rock with nothing on and slamming
- 17:10stuff is like 10 year old Chanel is cracking up totally.
- 17:14Of course, of course I'd crack up if I watched it right now.
- 17:17Just cause muscle memory. Absolutely that inner child.
- 17:20But I see what you're saying. Yeah, 'cause he was.
- 17:23So he was a serious dad. I can't.
- 17:26I love it too much. I'll try to critique it.
- 17:28And. I'm like, I know you're doing
- 17:30great. He came with the corn.
- 17:32Oh shit. Yeah.
- 17:34Like if my parent came back to me as corn and was like bitch
- 17:36get it together. I mean, look.
- 17:39What can I do? Yeah, I mean.
- 17:43It's so. It's just so stupid.
- 17:45I thought that it would have been even better if he didn't
- 17:47have Chris Rock as the corn. If he just like cried because
- 17:52the corn died, I think that would have been even better.
- 17:54But here's here's one thing that's interesting.
- 17:56OK, so I guess a lot of the voice over stuff was done in
- 18:03post production. Like they weren't planning on
- 18:05doing a ton of voice over. That was one piece that Louis CK
- 18:08said that he wished wasn't in the film as much, like the
- 18:11narration. And I thought that we needed the
- 18:15narration because otherwise, what the fuck are we watching?
- 18:18What's going on? Literally what is going on?
- 18:20Yeah. And at every point and at every
- 18:23point when I'm thinking, where are we going?
- 18:26Then we got Wanda Sykes and I'm like, thank you for bringing us
- 18:30back. And she gives us a little
- 18:32exposition and she's a breath of fresh air and she brings me
- 18:35right back up. But I thought that the scene
- 18:38with the corn, that part would have been better if there is no
- 18:43voice over being like, it was his dad and he was corn and
- 18:46Pootie Tang was crazy because he was crying over corn.
- 18:49It's like if he was just crying over the corn, we would have
- 18:53understood. Right.
- 18:55But then we have JB Smooth. Yeah, being ridiculous.
- 18:59I know, OK, I think my favorite part of the movie might have
- 19:04been 702 singing that song, that catchy, catchy song that meet
- 19:08that full music video full. Music video Oh.
- 19:11My God I bet they spent most of the budget on that music video.
- 19:14It was so fucking. Catchy.
- 19:16And that's what it's like. What is this movie?
- 19:19Yeah, it's a clip. It's a music video.
- 19:22It's a history. It's present, it's past.
- 19:25If you look if you look it up online, it will categorize this
- 19:29film as comedy musical. That's funny.
- 19:33And I and I thought musicals maybe a bit of a stretch, but.
- 19:37Yeah, 'cause I'm like. That but that one song.
- 19:40I mean God. It's so good.
- 19:42And it's not like, it's not like Wicked, you know?
- 19:44Like I'm like, look, it's musical.
- 19:45That's crazy. Yeah, I don't.
- 19:47There's no fools. The only song has no sound.
- 19:51It was kind of like, OK, so this is not the movie we're
- 19:55discussing today, but did you see Sinners?
- 19:57Yeah. OK, a lot of people describe
- 20:00that as a musical. Was that a musical?
- 20:02No. OK.
- 20:03And I love musicals. Yeah, 'cause people hate them.
- 20:06I get it. Yeah.
- 20:07No, it was not. OK, I agree and that is the
- 20:11correct answer. Chanel, I agree it is not a
- 20:13musical because there is music in it.
- 20:17Yes. But now are we saying, are we
- 20:19saying that any movie where music plays a role is a musical?
- 20:26No. But then I mean all this genre
- 20:29bending, it's like, at what point do we call something a
- 20:32musical? What qualifies it as a musical?
- 20:34We need a song, like an actual catch.
- 20:39I think actually we need maybe even more than that.
- 20:44We need a couple songs. I think we need an ensemble is
- 20:48what we need. I think that is really what
- 20:50separates a Well, no 'cause centers did kind of have an
- 20:53ensemble. It was like he came and then
- 20:56they were like, and if there had been music before that, yeah, I
- 21:00would have been like, this is a music like right when he stepped
- 21:02in his daddy's or left. Like you got to be singing and
- 21:05walking. That's true.
- 21:06You got to be you got to be at the store and and doing a twirl
- 21:09and singing and grabbing your coffee 'cause you're in love.
- 21:12Like it's yeah, he wasn't doing any of that.
- 21:15He was at the club where he's supposed to sing at singing.
- 21:19So yeah, that is why I think Pootie Tang is not a musical,
- 21:24because there's a music video at the beginning.
- 21:27He sings a song with Missy Elliott which like, I'm so happy
- 21:32to see Missy Elliott on my screen at any time.
- 21:35I do love. Missy, that scene, I was like,
- 21:38what are we doing here? I mean, even more than the rest
- 21:41of the film. I'm saying, what are we doing?
- 21:44What is the sex symbol? Yeah, did.
- 21:48I see myself in Pootie. I feel like you.
- 21:50We brought this up and now I'm like.
- 21:53Do you see yourself? Do you put do you put a little
- 21:56bowl of milk outside for your hose?
- 21:58Absolutely not. Absolutely not.
- 22:01That part did. Let's talk about not aging well.
- 22:05It is. Supposed to just be ridiculous
- 22:07that like this woman is screaming she wants Pootie so
- 22:11bad he locks her out of his out of his house.
- 22:16He opens the door, gives her a little milk kind of baby girl
- 22:20style. You seen baby girl?
- 22:23No. There's a scene where, yeah,
- 22:24there's a scene where she she just, she does drink milk like a
- 22:29cat. After a guy gives it to her,
- 22:33Yeah. So this it might have aged well.
- 22:35Honestly, did this move, did they get it from this?
- 22:40They said, oh, that's kind of freaky.
- 22:42I. Guess it feels like in some
- 22:44sense, yes. So the satire of it, yeah, OK.
- 22:50I'm sort of like, OK, on the one hand, I thought that Pootie was
- 22:54supposed to be a supporter of women.
- 22:57You know, earlier in the film, he's like, you know, we got we
- 22:59don't talk like that about women.
- 23:01I mean, you know, he says it in his own Pootie way.
- 23:04But but then he's like kicking this woman out of his, out of
- 23:08his house and giving her giving her milk like a little kid cat.
- 23:11And then the voice over is like. This bitch is crazy.
- 23:15She's drinking milk like a cat. It's like we know Jamie.
- 23:18'S food is a whole like we can do a whole different OK, OK,
- 23:23this is the I I I don't I don't object.
- 23:26I just I just was like she was all over Pootie.
- 23:28She wanted to do the nasty with him.
- 23:30I assume we assume and Pootie was like no and also never get
- 23:36osteoporosis. He cares.
- 23:38He cares about woman's health, maybe.
- 23:41Yeah, he said. When you were on me, your bones,
- 23:44I could hear them. But that is dumb and it is not
- 23:48OK to do that. But that I guess it's the
- 23:51fandom, right? Like that's what that was trying
- 23:53to satire this. Like, oh, women will do anything
- 23:56for these men. Right.
- 23:57Like, is it that's the thing that's so hard is that this
- 24:00movie is so like meta upon meta that are we supposed to believe
- 24:05that Pootie, our, you know, our hero, the coolest guy ever, is
- 24:11really a misogynist? Or is this movie making fun of
- 24:17the people who made the movies in the past where they made, you
- 24:19know, women be little Kitty cats?
- 24:22Yeah, and do crazy stuff, right? It's true.
- 24:24It's hard to know. Hard to know, hard to know the
- 24:27intention. But when we know who the, when
- 24:29we know who the writer and director was, it's kind of like
- 24:33kind of puts everything in a in a different light.
- 24:35You know what you know, It's hard to trust the intentions.
- 24:38It's hard to say the intention here was good.
- 24:42No, no it wasn't. No, it was not.
- 24:45Whatever it was, it wasn't good. OK, so even for OK, I'll just
- 24:50say this, even for a movie with no plot, it's really challenging
- 24:54for me to remember, like what happens, You know, it's one of
- 24:57the one of those movies where I'm like, Oh yeah, there, this
- 25:01happens and this happens and this happens.
- 25:03There's no like cause and effect.
- 25:04We're just like on to the next thing.
- 25:06Which is, again, why I feel like it would be better as a series
- 25:09than it is as a feature film. And that's fine.
- 25:13But I just want to talk about Wanda Sykes's Biggie Shorty for.
- 25:16A minute. I love her.
- 25:18I love her. It's so sketch comedy in the way
- 25:21that she's like, dressed in this wacky ass costume with these bad
- 25:26wigs, as if she just like, you know, ran in from backstage and
- 25:30was like, OK, here I am like, I guess I'm Big Shorty now.
- 25:34And I love that. Yeah, I loved it.
- 25:36Yeah, she's good. She's OK.
- 25:38OK, back to the plot. You don't feel like the plot is
- 25:45we got Pootie is our good guy. Of course he's our good guy.
- 25:48He's our hero. Fall, of course, hit the arc.
- 25:51Yeah, You know what I'm saying? Yeah.
- 25:53And come back. Yeah.
- 25:54Save the day. And I mean, but here's The
- 25:56thing, is that like he, yeah, he had to go to, he had to go to
- 26:01the country to find himself. After his belt, yeah, 'cause the
- 26:04hose, I know, they're so strong. The I guess it's sort of like
- 26:09what is the challenge that he has to overcome Hose, I guess.
- 26:13Yeah, well, like, you know, OK. It's like, you know when.
- 26:18Yeah. Well, that's his weakness.
- 26:19They said that in the very beginning, though.
- 26:21They said that in the very beginning.
- 26:22We got that voice over that said that that was his weakness.
- 26:25That that the ladies were his weakness.
- 26:27Oh, wait, I know you've got a thought.
- 26:30And I'm gonna and I'm gonna. I'm gonna hear your thought.
- 26:32OK, I even though it is so funny, the little kid Pootie
- 26:38Tang, the little Pootie. That is the part where I'm like.
- 26:43When there are grown women who are like sexually attracted to
- 26:49him when they're throwing his stuff out the window.
- 26:51I mean, first of all, that's hilarious that they're throwing
- 26:53out the little tricycle and stuff from the window.
- 26:55And a little kid dressed up as a little adult is all will always
- 27:00be funny to me. It's always funny when little
- 27:03kids act like little adults. But I did not like that.
- 27:08There was just some, you know, the the pedo element of it.
- 27:12It's just not not the right time right now in this.
- 27:16It wasn't. Ever cultural moment.
- 27:17And it wasn't. Ever.
- 27:18Ever. It wasn't ever feels
- 27:20particularly bad. Yeah, when I watched it, like I
- 27:24probably watched it a couple years ago, like as an adult,
- 27:28like after I hadn't watched it for some time and I was like, Oh
- 27:30no. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:33Like, OK, funny. No, yeah, no.
- 27:36No, no, I mean it would have been funnier if honestly would
- 27:41have been funnier to me and much easier to watch now if there had
- 27:47been like a little kid playing the role that the adult woman
- 27:52did. Yeah, that was funny.
- 27:54If like if there was like a six year old kid throwing his stuff
- 27:58out the window saying like. I was like off her yard.
- 28:03Even it being in the house was like what is going on?
- 28:06I know what is going on. Yeah, it was a lot.
- 28:09It was a lot. It was.
- 28:10But I like your rewrite. Yeah, Yeah.
- 28:13So it was. It was.
- 28:14That was bad. So I was, so, you know, things I
- 28:16would have changed. Yeah.
- 28:18Tough, tough. Yeah, I was like to.
- 28:20Watch it was bad. When it was bad, now it was
- 28:22like, what? What?
- 28:23What? First of all, I was a grown
- 28:25adult woman. What?
- 28:27Yeah. He's a child and not and even
- 28:33even Megyn Kelly would say he's a child because he was what,
- 28:36like sex? Not MK.
- 28:39I got a chuckle. From Nick MK Oh Lord.
- 28:43I was like OK, well, OK, we're gonna.
- 28:47I'm tired of y'all. That's why even.
- 28:50Why? Why why?
- 28:53No one asked. Nobody asked.
- 28:57OK, what were you? What were you gonna say a couple
- 28:59minutes ago when I I? Forgot what were we talking
- 29:03about? I'm so sorry.
- 29:05His hero. Arc we were talking about his
- 29:06hero arc and how his weakness was the ladies.
- 29:10And then he had like, they signed him up and they
- 29:12representing him bad and everybody was believing it.
- 29:14And then he lost a lot of faith in himself because he was like.
- 29:17Everyone lost everybody. And like, them doing the little
- 29:21editorials was crazy. They were like, fuck, hey, but
- 29:26that's real, right? Like everybody will love you one
- 29:28day and hate you the next. Absolutely.
- 29:30So he had to go get his stuff back together and realize it
- 29:33don't matter what people say about you, Pootie.
- 29:35Absolutely. We need you.
- 29:37I did think it was a little bit confusing how it's like, Oh
- 29:40well, it's like you have the power all along.
- 29:42It wasn't in the belt, but it's like obviously it is in the belt
- 29:45once he gets the belt. Then it smack him like yeah.
- 29:48But it's maybe, like now he can. Now he really knows how to use
- 29:51the belt for good, to represent himself with authenticity.
- 29:56It's true. Don't love how they talked about
- 29:59how Irene played by Jennifer Coolidge, an absolute Dame, a
- 30:06beautiful woman. They said you wouldn't expect
- 30:09it, but she could drive them crazy or like whatever.
- 30:11It was as if like looking at this conventionally hot woman
- 30:15would not be. They said that also about the
- 30:17country pumpkin girl. They're like, she wasn't sexy.
- 30:20I'm like. I mean, but I, I see why they
- 30:23said that. Not in that sense.
- 30:25But like back then, it's like I, I've, I've watched a lot of
- 30:29these movies back then and I was like, like, I watched Freddie
- 30:31Got Fingered recently and they were like Drew Barrymore's fat.
- 30:34And I was like, what? And so it was just like this,
- 30:37like, oh, unless you're thin, unless you're young, unless
- 30:39you're, you know, so I was like, OK, I see not justifying it.
- 30:43Just like in that time. You were like I get at that
- 30:45time. Women had to be one thing.
- 30:48Yeah, one thing. Yeah, 1 little thing.
- 30:51'Cause they were all beautiful women.
- 30:52We seen them, obviously everybody in that.
- 30:55Yeah. But I was like, you know, it's
- 30:57always this like, oh, this girl, nobody wants her in the country.
- 31:02She's just out here and you're like, she's fine.
- 31:05Yeah. She's just living her life.
- 31:07And she's what size? I don't know.
- 31:09Yeah, 12, like, that's what? But that back in those days.
- 31:13Yeah, fat. Immediately a cow.
- 31:17A pig. Yeah, but right on right at home
- 31:19with those farmers. That was good.
- 31:25And that's that. Was great.
- 31:26That was good. But yeah, back to every time I
- 31:28watch a show from back then, they were like, this person was
- 31:31fat. And I'm like.
- 31:31You're like who? They were not, no.
- 31:34But back then, yeah. And even I was like, as a chubby
- 31:38kid, I was like. You were like, she's one of us,
- 31:42yeah. I was like, if she could get
- 31:43Pootie, Me too, you know? Not that I wanted Pootie.
- 31:46No, but you wanted to be Pootie, maybe.
- 31:48I think I didn't want to be him more.
- 31:49I think he not the kid with the adults.
- 31:52Of course. But just like, he was just a
- 31:54badass, you know, He just came up.
- 31:56He didn't speak no words. Which, is he neurodivergent?
- 31:59We don't know. I think he's on a different
- 32:02planet and that's. A different plane.
- 32:05He's just on a different. Plane than well dimensional.
- 32:07He isn't. He does not like He's so beyond
- 32:13us mere mortals. You know, that makes sense.
- 32:15I just think he's he's on a different plane.
- 32:18But is he neurodivergent? Yeah, of course.
- 32:20You've seen the way he, sorry, the way he runs his.
- 32:24That's not a, that's not a neurotypical kind of guy.
- 32:28He's just like, he's at the crime scene.
- 32:29He's dancing. Oh, yeah, That's very just so
- 32:35dumb. Yeah, but I get it.
- 32:39I feel like if I was in the middle of a fight, I might dance
- 32:41a little, yeah. And then be like focus, you
- 32:43know? And the whole bit, I mean the
- 32:46whole bit of like he says something and everyone
- 32:50understands it until he like says one thing a little bit
- 32:54different than they're like, what did you just say?
- 32:56What the fuck did you say? And then he like, adds, he adds
- 33:00like a random syllable at the end.
- 33:02And then they're like, oh, that's what you meant.
- 33:04I guess that's how they ended it.
- 33:05Like on the Chris Rock show, that's how they ended.
- 33:07Every sketch was like, Chris Rock would be interviewing him.
- 33:10And then he would say some nonsense and start like,
- 33:12mumbling. He'd be like, what the fuck did
- 33:14you just say? And then he and then Pootie Tang
- 33:17would like, say the same thing but with like, a slightly
- 33:20different syllable somewhere in there.
- 33:23And then he'd be like, oh, of course, why didn't you say so?
- 33:28I need to watch the Chris Rock show.
- 33:30Yeah, I'm not. Watch this.
- 33:32I watched only the first appearance of Pootie Tang on the
- 33:36Chris Rock show. OK, it was funny.
- 33:39OK, yeah. I was like, I didn't know this
- 33:43history. I didn't even know.
- 33:44Yeah, some of those shows I don't remember.
- 33:46Yeah, because we were small. Because we were small.
- 33:48Yeah, it was on HBO. Hell yeah.
- 33:51What the fuck? No.
- 33:52Hell no. No, yeah, my parents weren't
- 33:55letting me watch HBO back then, but I guess I guess you could
- 33:59because you rented the movie for your birthday party.
- 34:02That's awesome, by the way. I just feel like my mom didn't
- 34:07like, I don't know, a lot of boomer moms was just like, here
- 34:10you go, you know? For sure.
- 34:12Yeah, and like have have a good time.
- 34:13And then she probably thought it was funny and like, you know.
- 34:16She was enjoying it too. That's funny as hell.
- 34:19Yeah. Are you the youngest child?
- 34:21I am. OK I was going to say same here.
- 34:23I feel like it's also a young, younger child thing where
- 34:26they're like, yeah, you should watch whatever you want.
- 34:28Yeah, do whatever, I don't care. Absolutely.
- 34:30And look, we turned out fine. Exactly.
- 34:33WADA, Tay. WADA Tay.
- 34:36OK, so there's what was I going to say?
- 34:43Oh yeah, there's I read this interview with Louis CK.
- 34:49It was from 2004, so it was looking back on Pootie Tang just
- 34:54from like a couple years later. And it was like from the
- 34:59beginning, like from the time that it was released, he was
- 35:01like, fuck this movie. I hate this movie.
- 35:03I'm never doing another movie. I don't know, like everyone just
- 35:06stole everything from me. They wanted to make a black
- 35:08Austin Powers. That's not what I was trying to
- 35:10do. And they cheapened it.
- 35:12And it's, you know, I just wanted it to be grittier.
- 35:15That's what they always say, say I wanted it to be grittier.
- 35:18What the fuck does that mean? Anyway?
- 35:20You can see that like the studio's grubby little hands
- 35:25were all over it in some ways because it just like at some
- 35:30points it's like the joke just doesn't end.
- 35:35But I don't know. I'm sort of like, I feel very
- 35:39torn because on the one hand, I want, I want film makers to be
- 35:44able to make the film that they intended to make.
- 35:48On the other hand, I want Louis CK to feel like he has failed.
- 35:52Yeah, yeah. So there's that.
- 35:56Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like, what movie did you
- 36:01really intend to make? Right.
- 36:02And we'll never know, I guess. This is also this is like some
- 36:06cocaine fueled shit. Of course, what are y'all?
- 36:10Talking about you don't even know what was going on.
- 36:12Yeah. What?
- 36:13What? Yeah.
- 36:14What? So yeah, that cracks me up.
- 36:17Yeah, that cracks me up because whose was it?
- 36:20How can he say it's his? Did he invent that character on
- 36:23Chris Rock? He was a writer on the show at
- 36:25that time, so I don't know if it was his idea or if it was
- 36:30something that came from somebody else in the writers
- 36:32room or if it was a collaborative.
- 36:33Effort. Who knows?
- 36:35That's who knows. Who knows if it was his idea.
- 36:37I don't even know if it should have been, but OK.
- 36:39If it if it wasn't his idea or if it was his idea, no it
- 36:43wasn't. Yeah, who told you what?
- 36:45Yeah. Roger, Ebert said should have
- 36:49never been released. A lot of people said similar
- 36:53things. They said the main criticism was
- 36:55like, this movie is disjointed. The jokes go on too long.
- 37:00It doesn't make sense. And I didn't really need it to
- 37:04make a whole lot of sense to still get some laughs.
- 37:08But I was like, OK, let's. Wrap it up to the.
- 37:12Next and it's an 80 minute movie.
- 37:14I mean, it's short and 10 minutes of that are the credits,
- 37:18the credit, the stuff I went on in the credits.
- 37:20I said enough, I'm done, let me be excused.
- 37:24Oh, we're not the little ending scene.
- 37:25Yeah, I just didn't need it. I was like, OK, I I'm done.
- 37:29Let me, let me go. No.
- 37:32You were there for it, cult. It's I'm a cult classic, lover
- 37:35of Pootie Tang so I. Can't.
- 37:37So you say no, I'm no. I will debate whether things age
- 37:42well and something. No, no, but I did well.
- 37:46I used. I just used to watch the whole.
- 37:48I knew every part. Yeah.
- 37:50And that also goes to show how much time I used to have on my
- 37:52hands. That's why I tried to watch it.
- 37:54This. I've been trying to watch it.
- 37:55Yeah, I watched like 30 minutes, but I've watched it so much.
- 37:58You know it already. Which is a sin.
- 38:01No, it's. Not if it's if it's all these
- 38:03people hated it. That cracks me up.
- 38:06People hated it, but people are wrong sometimes.
- 38:08Yeah, people can be wrong, even critics.
- 38:12Especially critics. You know, that's pretty on
- 38:15brand, though. I'm pretty on brand with like
- 38:17everybody hates this. I like it.
- 38:20You're a little. Contrarian, aren't you?
- 38:21Look at me. You're like that New York Times
- 38:24opinion guy who's like women were ruined the workplace.
- 38:28And I was like, remember? Him, yes, and you said did
- 38:31workplace ruin the women? Give us money, lots of money,
- 38:34and we'll leave. Yeah, we won't come back.
- 38:37And we just don't even have to show.
- 38:39Up. I just have to agree.
- 38:40Yeah, we did. Yeah.
- 38:41Now give us a big severance. Uh huh.
- 38:44And we'll leave. I'll and I'll go.
- 38:46Sometimes you got to agree 'cause you're like, actually
- 38:48this might be good for me. Yeah, totally.
- 38:51If they would have done that. Like that one, like that one
- 38:53lady in this stupid fucking New York Times opinion interview
- 38:58who's like, she's talking about like the feminization of the
- 39:02world. And she's like, everything
- 39:04that's feminine is bad anyway. That's.
- 39:08Cracking me up. I know.
- 39:10But anyway, he's the kind of guy who says people think a thing.
- 39:15I'm going to say otherwise. And you're kind of I'm.
- 39:21Sorry, wait, who's the? Kind of guy.
- 39:22Are you talking about rock? Are you talking?
- 39:24About, I'm talking about, I'm talking about the New York Times
- 39:26opinion article, OK, Like the guy who wrote that article.
- 39:31He, he's the type of person that says I want to make people mad
- 39:35with this opinion. Yeah, sorry.
- 39:37It was a stretch for me to say that you 2 have that in common.
- 39:41I think that you just, I think that you are just you're, you're
- 39:44a critical thinker. When other people say this thing
- 39:47is bad, you say, but why? Yeah, and I love, I love some
- 39:52quirky shit and I love a movie with friendship.
- 39:56Oh yeah. So it's like if it's put with a
- 40:00silly. Background.
- 40:02Yeah. Give it to me.
- 40:03Right. And none of the movies that I
- 40:05could have suggested would have aged well.
- 40:07Like I was like, oh, Friday after Next, which did not.
- 40:09It's terrible. Yeah.
- 40:11Do not watch that. Did I just watch it?
- 40:13Yeah. But I get it.
- 40:15Don't if you were not ten when it came out.
- 40:18You're not gonna get it. Don't.
- 40:21Don't watch it. Yeah, unless you wanna see Terry
- 40:23Crews. Be very.
- 40:25Yeah. Homophobic.
- 40:28I don't know. Yeah, Mike Epps was.
- 40:30But yeah, all those movies were like bad.
- 40:36And I grew up with like 2 boy cousins, so like my mom, yeah.
- 40:39Like I was with them a lot. So I'd watch a whole bunch of
- 40:41this male humor. Yeah, which was bad.
- 40:48Yeah. To this day.
- 40:52To this day, yeah. To this day, yeah.
- 40:56To this day, yeah. But now I'd like more like, you
- 40:59know, I'm a horror girl now. Horror thriller.
- 41:04Yeah, yeah, you said I want to be skilled.
- 41:07I need to be skilled. I need to be intrigued at least
- 41:10I need, I do need my brain like, ooh, I didn't see that coming.
- 41:13You need something. To tickle your brain a little
- 41:15bit, to say, ooh, that's spicy. This is different.
- 41:17I need it to be very different. I need it to be, yeah, like
- 41:21almost a foreign film. You're not like other girls.
- 41:23I'm. Not I'm not like other girls.
- 41:26Yeah, I mean sadate. But you're just, yeah.
- 41:30You're quirky. No, but I.
- 41:32I'm like no, for I feel OK. I'm a Taurus so I'm very
- 41:35artisanal. I'm very like it better be.
- 41:37Yeah, better be top notch. Or I hate it.
- 41:40Yeah, and this was top notch dumb as the fuck and.
- 41:44Yeah, if there's one thing it it is.
- 41:47It excels in being the most dumb.
- 41:50Very dumb. And.
- 41:52It's like as I got older, the Waynes brothers were too dumb
- 41:55for me. Yeah, like their shit, like all
- 41:58their parodies, which I'm happy that they were able to make
- 42:01them. Sure and no.
- 42:03Yeah. No, even y'all was talking about
- 42:06Adam Sandler. Yeah, no.
- 42:08No. Fuck no.
- 42:10Will he be doing that little baby voice and shit?
- 42:12Absolutely not. I'll slap him for that.
- 42:14Yeah, I'm not watching that. Yeah, but like the other, the
- 42:19older stuff like Little Nikki and I will watch those high and
- 42:24crack up 'cause it's like what? And then like just the stuff
- 42:27people are allowed to get away with on TV.
- 42:29Yeah. And they were like this, this is
- 42:31TV-14. And I was like, this should have
- 42:33been rated off. Yeah, absolutely.
- 42:35So also the ratings have changed.
- 42:37That's. That is 1 big thing that has
- 42:39changed is the way that the way that ratings are.
- 42:44I don't know, just like our standards for like what is
- 42:46appropriate for kids and what's not.
- 42:48'Cause I watched a whole bunch of shit and I should've never
- 42:50watched Freddie Got Fingered. I watched it again as an adult.
- 42:52I was like, why was I watching this?
- 42:54What the fuck? All I could remember was, Daddy,
- 42:56would you like some sausage? And then I watched the whole
- 42:57thing and I was like, oh, there's much more to this movie.
- 42:59Yeah, way more than you thought. Tom Green, eh?
- 43:05Oh, OK. Every generation.
- 43:08Every generation we have one. Yikes.
- 43:12Yeah, That's fair. That's.
- 43:13Yeah, yeah, I'm like a I'm like a Napoleon Dynamite.
- 43:16I'm like a. But everybody should love.
- 43:19People love that movie. People do love that movie, yeah.
- 43:22I'm like, people like that. I do love that.
- 43:25I it is kind of confusing. Like if you were to ask like,
- 43:28what is Napoleon Dynamite about? I can't remember.
- 43:31Like, I know that she runs. He runs for like class
- 43:33president, right? No vote for Pedro.
- 43:36Pedro. Pedro's running for.
- 43:38It's not even Napoleon. Nope.
- 43:39It's just an exploration of a goofy character.
- 43:42Yes, a day in the life like we just popped.
- 43:45Yeah, that's true. But that's another question is
- 43:49like, could Napoleon Dynamite be made today?
- 43:51Would anyone care to watch a movie about like some little
- 43:54freak a day in the life? I think I would.
- 43:58I know you would. Because I do like that it's
- 44:00about friendship. Yeah.
- 44:01And it's funny. It's dumb.
- 44:03It's so dumb. And I would hope so, but I'm not
- 44:08going to lie, when I've showed it to younger people, they're
- 44:10like, what is this about? And I'm like, shut up.
- 44:13So it might have been a very specific, you know, like when
- 44:15the kids say 6-7, you're like, I don't know what you're talking
- 44:18about, but you know what I'm saying?
- 44:20I do. There's some things our brains
- 44:21just get and then other generations are like, we're not
- 44:24programmed like. That it's just like when you get
- 44:26some exposure to something at the exact right moment when your
- 44:31brain is craving anything stupid and you say, that's for me.
- 44:37I need to watch this. Yeah, OK, answer this for me if
- 44:42you if you would. OK.
- 44:44Do you think that this movie is like doing exactly what it
- 44:51criticizes, which is like the white powerful men exploiting
- 44:58the likeness and image of a of like black people, black
- 45:02culture? Oh yeah, which is, which is,
- 45:06which is why it's funny too, because that's another meta
- 45:08aspect. Yeah, because it but also why it
- 45:09still is like, oh, this age. Well, because that's still
- 45:11happening. It's never going to stop, but
- 45:15yeah, yeah. Like if this was made today, but
- 45:19it might still be made by a white guy, but a lot of people
- 45:22would say, a lot of people would have more to say about it, but
- 45:25it still wouldn't, like change the fact that I don't know that
- 45:29the people who are making money would be white people.
- 45:31Yeah, I'm like, please don't, Don't do it.
- 45:33Like the only person I'll feel like, like, didn't Will Ferrell
- 45:36make a movie where he was like, speaking Spanish or trying to
- 45:38speak Spanish a couple years back?
- 45:41We're like. You don't have to do that.
- 45:43You. Don't have to be the one to do
- 45:45that. Stop.
- 45:45Yeah, bad dog. Yeah, you know, you know what
- 45:49word works in Spanish and English?
- 45:52No. Yeah.
- 45:53No, immediately Nacho Libre. See, there was a lot of movies
- 45:56where we're like, what are y'all doing?
- 45:58Yeah. And I don't know how this
- 46:01relates back to the point, but it relates to the point in which
- 46:04y'all shouldn't have been making this.
- 46:06That's the point, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 46:07So yeah, the movie is it claims to be a satire on and is
- 46:14criticizing the way that white people like the people who work
- 46:18for Lexcorp or whatever. That's what it is, right?
- 46:22The way that they steal Pootie's image, his likeness, the way
- 46:26that they trust David cross up like him.
- 46:30Which one of the one of the funniest examples of blackface
- 46:36in film history? And he's just talking.
- 46:40And people are like, yeah. Yeah, people are so stupid and I
- 46:43love that about people and also that.
- 46:45Stupid they are. They're dumb.
- 46:46Yeah, but I think there's there's moments like this.
- 46:51It's like Tropic Thunder, David Cross and oh, David Cross in
- 46:56this movie. It's like, yeah, the they're in
- 46:59blackface because their character is supposed to be bad.
- 47:03We're laughing at him being in blackface, not saying Oh my God,
- 47:07it's so funny because being black is so funny.
- 47:09No, no. We're not doing that.
- 47:11We're saying. We're saying, oh, people are so
- 47:14stupid because they see David Cross pretending to be Pootie
- 47:18Tang. And they believe it.
- 47:19Trying to talk in Pootie Tang language.
- 47:21With the wig. On Oh my God, And we're
- 47:25criticizing the white people who have put him in that position.
- 47:30We're not saying, oh, my God, I'm so glad that they didn't
- 47:33cast a black person to be in that role.
- 47:36Thank God they put a white guy in makeup.
- 47:39So that's why I'm kind of like, OK, you might think on the
- 47:42services, someone said, oh, in this movie you're going to see
- 47:44David cross in blackface. I'd say, oh, maybe this won't
- 47:48age well, but that part shockingly, age is OK.
- 47:52Why would this be OK to do right?
- 47:55And nobody's stopping them and nobody's like, that's the point.
- 47:58That's the. Point.
- 47:59They tried to sell cereal with hot dogs in it.
- 48:01Yeah, the what? What is it called?
- 48:04It's it's called Tasty Heavy Pork Chunk Cereal.
- 48:10Heavy pork chunk. This episode of Did That Age
- 48:14Well is brought to you by Tasty Heavy Pork Chunk Cereal.
- 48:17Yeah, all the kids love it all. The kids.
- 48:19We love you, Pooty. Oh my God.
- 48:21That was so it's just, yeah, that shit is.
- 48:24That shit is ridiculous. Yeah, they're like, and don't
- 48:27drink malt liquor because you don't need it, because you're.
- 48:29OK, you're OK. I'm like, I loved that as the
- 48:35reason I love that as and don't drink malt liquor because you
- 48:38don't need it, because you're OK.
- 48:40All right, all right. You're right.
- 48:42You're right. Oh man.
- 48:45What do you think? Like, what's your favorite part?
- 48:47What part do you laugh at the most?
- 48:49And Pootie Tang, I do really like the part where he's like
- 48:52singing the song and then they're showing people
- 48:54responding to it, dancing, and it just gets faster and faster.
- 48:58The fastest level cracks me up. Yeah, 'cause I look, I do.
- 49:01I do love absurdity, and that's absurd as hell.
- 49:04Yeah. I love when he's on like he,
- 49:10like, I think he's still on the phone.
- 49:11I don't know where he meets Dirty D, but they're doing like
- 49:13a Oh yeah. He, he does come to the farm.
- 49:17He comes to the farm because he's he's got his belt and he's
- 49:21and he's come to. And he think he can beat up
- 49:23Pootie now? Yeah, OK, but he cannot.
- 49:27Also that he says he hates prison because they make him
- 49:30shower. Yeah, 'cause he's dirty T damn
- 49:32it, 'cause. He's dirty T.
- 49:34He's it's just like a comic book.
- 49:35It's like a comic book. It is like a comic book and if
- 49:39this was a cartoon he would have like the clouds.
- 49:42Of. Dirt coming off of him.
- 49:44'Cause he's a villain and he's dirty.
- 49:45Yeah, of course. And then they have.
- 49:47I don't even know. And his whole crew is dirty too.
- 49:50Everyone like his whole entourage.
- 49:52Everyone's been rolling in dirt. And then Pooty Tang's like,
- 49:55yeah, look at my hair. Yeah, look at my Bing Bing.
- 49:58Oh my God. And at this point, you know, the
- 50:00Matrix hadn't been out that long, it hadn't been that
- 50:03overplayed yet for people to like do the bullet dodging thing
- 50:08as a joke. I think that now it's so
- 50:11overdone that we're like, OK, but at the.
- 50:15Time. Still still pretty fresh for.
- 50:18Pootie pretty fresh. Anyway, we're talking about how
- 50:22dirty D comes back. To the farm, back to the farm,
- 50:26and then they're doing the like the gun.
- 50:29Oh my God. It's like they're so close.
- 50:31Yeah, man, it see it's just so stupid.
- 50:34That cracks me up. Yeah, that part cracks me up.
- 50:37Yeah, yeah, and I do love little big Shorty finally gets him too.
- 50:40Oh, me too. And I'm just like, look at we
- 50:43got Wanda Sykes that just straight.
- 50:45Yeah. What a time.
- 50:46Oh my God, the way that. She just, I don't know what
- 50:48hurt. I don't know if she's just
- 50:49entirely lesbian, but I thought I think so.
- 50:51I think. I think so, right?
- 50:53Yeah. The way that she dances too is
- 50:57so bad. It's so funny.
- 50:59And then, OK, tangent. Because back to her.
- 51:03Yeah, like, you know, she's dancing crazy on the street, and
- 51:07then people think she's a prostitute.
- 51:08Yeah, she says. Just 'cause I just 'cause I
- 51:11dress like this and I like to stand on the the street corner
- 51:16and dance that makes you think I'm hooking.
- 51:19Which so funny. I thought I thought that was
- 51:22funny. But I'm also like, I'm not from
- 51:23Chicago. You mean a small town outside of
- 51:26Gary, IN? That was.
- 51:29Funny, that was good. And I don't even know if I like,
- 51:31you know, every time you watch them, I'm like, I don't know if
- 51:33I remember them saying this. Yeah, ever.
- 51:36That's stupid. But maybe I don't know, some of
- 51:39these things were like a shout out to there.
- 51:42I don't know, because it was random.
- 51:44It was like, why is this happening?
- 51:46But black cities are random. True.
- 51:49It'd be some fun shit going on, but like, totally what?
- 51:53But yeah, totally. But also terrible shit.
- 51:55And it's also like, what was she listening to in those little
- 51:58headphones? I want to know probably.
- 51:59The was she. She was.
- 52:00Probably listening to. What did it do Good?
- 52:06He's just so stupid. Yeah.
- 52:08He's so stupid. Yeah, I need to watch his sketch
- 52:11show. That's a fairpoint.
- 52:13I do too. I need to watch more than just
- 52:15the one sketch that I watched just to see how it all worked,
- 52:19you know? I wonder if they continue doing
- 52:21this character after the movie came out.
- 52:24I don't know. I don't know either 'cause I
- 52:26never seen him again in anything.
- 52:28Yeah, and that made me sad. Do you like Chris Rock?
- 52:31Not for real. OK.
- 52:32Like it's like I would watch his stuff and I've watched his
- 52:35stuff, but if people are like, oh, or are you going to, I'm
- 52:38like, not like a priority. I hate to say it, but his best
- 52:42role? Madagascar.
- 52:44Who was he in that one? He.
- 52:46I think he was the zebra. The Zebra.
- 52:50That's fair. I think he's he's a, I'll say
- 52:52this sorry. He's a better voice actor than
- 52:56regular actor. It as an actor, I don't like him
- 53:00that much. Yeah, I'm like, I'm trying to
- 53:02like one of the movies that I used to love a lot with him,
- 53:04meaning when I was younger was down to earth.
- 53:06Do you remember that he like or like somebody dies and then he
- 53:11gets in a body? I don't even remember if he dies
- 53:14or the white man dies. He gets in a rich body.
- 53:17Do they? We should have watched.
- 53:19This Yeah, we should have watched that.
- 53:21But I did like that movie, but I don't know if I like to see what
- 53:23I'm saying. Like I'm just sometimes I am
- 53:25just watching the movies. Right.
- 53:28So it depends. Yeah, I think that he just, he
- 53:32doesn't really do it for me. He's just there.
- 53:34He's just there. Everyone else's seek it out.
- 53:36Performance like outshined his to me even though he was.
- 53:45Doing the most he. Was doing the most but it did
- 53:49the least for me. Like, he was Pootie's biggest
- 53:52hype man. Yeah, but under his own terms.
- 53:56The bit where he's like with that other guy, when he's like
- 53:59repeating, when he says, I did not think that was that funny.
- 54:02I think. I think it was supposed to be
- 54:04the part that I liked the most, and I wasn't.
- 54:07That did crack me up because it was just so he's like, I just
- 54:10said that because you know your friend that doesn't listen.
- 54:13Oh yeah, that's why I was like, we all have friends.
- 54:15When he says I hate you, Yeah, like.
- 54:18They don't listen, they don't know what's going on.
- 54:20Yeah. And you just said it.
- 54:22And they like, we love this place.
- 54:23You're a bitch. What?
- 54:24Yeah. So that's why that I feel like,
- 54:27yeah, there's people in my life that represent these characters
- 54:29or what? That's true.
- 54:31And you're Pootie. I'm Pootie.
- 54:32You are? Yeah.
- 54:33So who does that make you? I don't know.
- 54:36I think, I think it makes me Wanda Sykes, you know, I just, I
- 54:40just out here dancing my little dance.
- 54:45Right on Colfax. Yeah.
- 54:46Biggie baby. And then she just have it like,
- 54:49all the little intros too, of like, Oh my God.
- 54:51It was just like, what is this movie?
- 54:53Yeah. It is, and I think that the
- 54:54movie needed that. Like those little introductions,
- 54:58like the title cards, all of that was those were the
- 55:02additions of studio. Like those weren't in the
- 55:05original screenplay, but I think like.
- 55:09It did need that I. It needed that.
- 55:11We needed to be like introduced to each individual character
- 55:14because like, otherwise what the fuck is going on?
- 55:17What the fuck is going on? How do you make it a movie?
- 55:19Yeah, this is a, this is a, this is a comic book.
- 55:21This is a manga. This is, Yeah, something else.
- 55:25Which is why it should have been split into 24 episodes that are
- 55:313 to 5 minutes long. Biggie baby.
- 55:34Just one is just her. I love it dancing.
- 55:37One is just her. Every time I think about you
- 55:39saying that and then it makes me think of the loiter squad and
- 55:42that's what that makes me think of, like a new age Pootie Tang
- 55:44would be these idiots, 'cause that show was idiotic.
- 55:48Yeah, crack me up. Absolutely.
- 55:52But what? Yeah, What's going on?
- 55:55I mean, I just think how? Did y'all even get a show I.
- 55:58Know how do they do that? I don't know, just because it's
- 56:02just like it was just, it was just so wacky.
- 56:05So silly. It was so wacky.
- 56:06Yeah. And I just like, I imagine
- 56:10trying to pitch that and I can't imagine.
- 56:13What is, what is the pitch? What we just doing shit?
- 56:17Yeah, we're just. Truly.
- 56:19I mean, that's basically OK when Lena Dunham made Girls I.
- 56:23Didn't watch that but I heard there was no real.
- 56:27Pitch she Yeah she was like five years younger than us yeah she
- 56:35is like yeah it's just gonna be a show about these like 4 girls
- 56:40and yeah. And it was like.
- 56:44And bitch, that's what it was. There's like, we love this,
- 56:48Yeah. Did you watch her new show?
- 56:50No. Did you?
- 56:51No. No, I don't know if I prefer
- 56:55Lena Dunham because I learned too much about you.
- 56:57I know. Before I got a chance and.
- 56:59And then on top of that, it's like I got a chill on how much
- 57:03white media consume Completely. Yeah, it gets a little too much.
- 57:07Yeah. And I feel like that show
- 57:08probably gonna get on my nerves. You, I think, would find girls
- 57:14hard to watch. Yeah, I'd be like.
- 57:15Most diverse city in the in the US for white girls and their
- 57:22weird white boyfriends. And I'm like, OK, back in Denver
- 57:25for. Me, here we are here I am at
- 57:26home, unfortunately. I need a little break.
- 57:29Yeah, I mean, it is. It's a good show, Yeah, but I
- 57:35don't think it's one of those shows where I'm like, Oh my God,
- 57:36you have to watch it. Yeah, I believe that.
- 57:38I do believe that. I don't.
- 57:41You know, you know who did a lot better?
- 57:43Issa Rae. Issa Rae did way better saying
- 57:46I'm going to make a show about people doing shit.
- 57:50I watch that show from the top right now.
- 57:53I watch every single episode. You did?
- 57:55No, I would like. If you were like, if I was like,
- 57:59we're gonna, you know, cut the tape.
- 58:00Let's watch. Let's do something else.
- 58:02Oh, my God, I love. I love.
- 58:04Insecure. Are you talking about insecure?
- 58:05Of course I am, yeah. I'm like, I would definitely
- 58:08tell people to watch that. Oh my God, yeah.
- 58:09When when people tell me they haven't watched it, I do that
- 58:12annoying thing where I'm like, well, if you haven't watched you
- 58:14guys start like what the fuck do you want my HBO Max password?
- 58:17Like do you need? Like do you?
- 58:19Can I help you like you need? To watch it, can I help you?
- 58:22Can I help you? Yeah, that one's a classic.
- 58:24Oh my God. Media classic.
- 58:26She stopped it at a good point. It was proud of that.
- 58:29That's how you end a show. That is how you end a fucking.
- 58:32Show there's not too many shows with good endings.
- 58:35That's exactly right. Yeah, she knew exactly how to
- 58:38wrap it up. That's a good ending. 6 Feet
- 58:41Under has a good ending. I've never seen it.
- 58:43That's a good that's it's about death.
- 58:45It depends on what, Yeah. Depends on if you like that.
- 58:48Yeah, I sometimes I look at my shells and I'm like Chanel
- 58:50these. And you say, are you OK?
- 58:53Why do I always got to be? Why somebody else got to be
- 58:55jumping out of closet? Why can't I just laugh?
- 58:58'Cause you got to live a little, you got to feel.
- 59:00That's how calm my life is right now.
- 59:02Yeah. I'm like I need to.
- 59:03Watch, that's how chilled, that's how chilled out you are
- 59:05is that you need something to go.
- 59:07Yeah, sometimes lifetime gets me.
- 59:09I'm like, all right, yeah, chill out.
- 59:11Yeah. Just.
- 59:13Please I get it. What else do we need to talk
- 59:18about with this movie, with Pootie Tang?
- 59:21I mean, God, what? What else is there to say about
- 59:24a movie with a hero who speaks in gibberish and everyone
- 59:29understands it and he is just kind of an icon?
- 59:32They know what he means. They know what he means.
- 59:35I think today, like if Pootie it obviously the movie, you had to
- 59:40be different. But if Pootie came out today,
- 59:41he'd be like a neurodivergent hero.
- 59:43Absolutely, yeah. Which is why I think it works as
- 59:46a comic book. If this came out as a comic book
- 59:49today, people would be like a new comic book with a hero.
- 59:55Neurodivergent Hero has been released.
- 59:58Yeah, and we would love it. He's black.
- 1:00:01He's a person of color. Yes, we will love it.
- 1:00:05And on top of that, it's like it, it would be random, but I
- 1:00:07feel like that would be OK in a comic book.
- 1:00:10Yeah, it's like, oh, his dad's corn, but this is a comic book.
- 1:00:14Yeah, it's a comic book for Stoner young adults.
- 1:00:18Yes. That's you know, what do you
- 1:00:20think of this movie was made for Stoner young adults?
- 1:00:24Yeah, I think a lot of the movies I liked, even though I
- 1:00:26wasn't a Stoner for a long time, are for stoners.
- 1:00:29I think you were kind of Stoner in your heart.
- 1:00:30Yeah. Before you were.
- 1:00:32Before you were up here. What?
- 1:00:33Was I going through 'cause I watched those all day long?
- 1:00:38Absolutely. I used to watch Pootie Tang
- 1:00:39every day. I used to watch Good Burger.
- 1:00:41Oh my God, I love that movie. Welcome to Good Burger.
- 1:00:45Hung on the Good Burger. Can I take your order next time?
- 1:00:47Great girls, boy. OK, I was actually so Nick and I
- 1:00:50were going to do that, but when we ended up doing Little Nicky,
- 1:00:52we're going to do Good Burger. But it was right after that
- 1:00:55documentary came out about the Nickelodeon kids, and we said,
- 1:00:59oh. Let's live soon.
- 1:01:01This is a little too dark right now, yeah.
- 1:01:03But now I feel like, I mean, yeah, those kids were still
- 1:01:06like, molested and like, mistreated and stuff.
- 1:01:08But I do think we can talk about Good Burger without it being as
- 1:01:12like, you know. Yeah, it's been some time.
- 1:01:16There's been some time for Nickelodeon to not be mainly in
- 1:01:21the cultural conversation as Zano that.
- 1:01:25And it's weird because it's like, there's layers, you know,
- 1:01:31to everything, of course. And it's like, I guess it's this
- 1:01:34weird thing of like, you know, we still see Keenan all the time
- 1:01:37and he's like, I don't really got nothing to say about that.
- 1:01:39So it's like, what's going on? I know.
- 1:01:41And then it's just like, put on the girls, the women now they're
- 1:01:44women. They are women.
- 1:01:45Yeah. So it's just like, I feel like
- 1:01:48there's certain things people will be like, oh, we can still
- 1:01:50watch that because he wasn't. And it.
- 1:01:51That's not necessarily true. Yeah.
- 1:01:53But I'm happy that y'all were thoughtful like that, you know?
- 1:01:56Yeah. And The thing is, like with Good
- 1:02:01Burger specifically, and you know what I'll say with Pootie
- 1:02:04Tang too, maybe I shouldn't be the one to say this, but I'm
- 1:02:07going to say it. I feel like even though the
- 1:02:10people behind the movie were predatory white guys, it did
- 1:02:18give like it gave young black men really cool and funny roles
- 1:02:25to play. Even if in the case of Pootie
- 1:02:28Tang, people didn't see it that way.
- 1:02:30People didn't like, Even though people didn't like it, from my
- 1:02:34perspective, I'm like OK like Kenan Kel and Good Burger,
- 1:02:37hilarious characters, Amazing. Helped Keenan launch his career.
- 1:02:42Incredible. For Pootie Tang, you know, it's
- 1:02:47not like Chris Rock needed this for his career.
- 1:02:50That other guy wasn't anything else, you know, like this.
- 1:02:54This wasn't like a, you know it was.
- 1:02:56Just a bunch of big names. It was like friends.
- 1:02:59Exactly. It was like a bunch of friends
- 1:03:01who were in a movie. Did it do anything good for
- 1:03:03their career? No.
- 1:03:05But it's still, I mean, I guess, yeah.
- 1:03:10I don't know. I'm kind of losing my argument
- 1:03:12here. So my argument was going to be
- 1:03:13like, oh, it gave like really cool black entertainers a
- 1:03:19platform to play hilarious characters.
- 1:03:23But if people hated the movie anyway.
- 1:03:28Then yeah, because I was like 4. It's like, that was just like,
- 1:03:32they're like, oh, Jennifer goes, oh, oh, Wanda Sykes, oh JB's.
- 1:03:35Like they literally just was like, Oh my friends, come on.
- 1:03:38Exactly. And so it's like, see, that's
- 1:03:40The thing is that's like this movie might have done terrible,
- 1:03:43but these actors within it, even in Good Burger, like they did a
- 1:03:46great job. Yeah.
- 1:03:48They did a great job portraying this world and taking us to this
- 1:03:51space, right? Except for Chris Rock, who I
- 1:03:53didn't really. Yeah, you didn't, but you
- 1:03:54didn't. But like there's other than that
- 1:03:56I was going to be 1. Other other than that, I thought
- 1:03:59everyone really clocked in for work.
- 1:04:01Yeah, they really did. Chris Rock was just.
- 1:04:03He's stressed. He's just.
- 1:04:04Like yelling. He's got a lot.
- 1:04:06Yeah, exactly. He's just.
- 1:04:07Like. Which is fine when you're a
- 1:04:11voice actor playing a zebra and Madagascar.
- 1:04:13'Cause that's what people expect from him.
- 1:04:15Absolutely. I know I got that almost
- 1:04:16confused. I was like, oh, the donkey and
- 1:04:18Shrek. No, it's Eddie Murphy.
- 1:04:21I love the donkey and Shrek. Of.
- 1:04:23Course, yeah. I mean, I love Madagascar, but
- 1:04:25that's not that's a little past my time.
- 1:04:27Same. Yeah, so that's why I was like,
- 1:04:29which one is he? But yeah.
- 1:04:34What's your favorite movie that you just recently seen?
- 1:04:36Oh oh that's a good question. I watched this movie called
- 1:04:43Sentimental Value at the Denver Film Festival.
- 1:04:47It's really good. Highly recommend Sentimental.
- 1:04:51Value. It sounds like it's gonna make
- 1:04:52me cry. It will get ready to get your
- 1:04:56heart. Wrecked.
- 1:04:58So you might. So you might not actually wanna
- 1:05:01watch that. You actually might not.
- 1:05:03I might. Is it love?
- 1:05:05What is it? It's family.
- 1:05:07OK. Yeah.
- 1:05:10So if things are tough, especially with if you have a
- 1:05:14dead mom or you have a bad relationship with your dad, I
- 1:05:16would say it's pretty tough to watch.
- 1:05:18Yeah. Do you have either of those?
- 1:05:21You don't have to. You don't have to talk about it.
- 1:05:22I mean, I'm estranged from my parents.
- 1:05:24So basically. So they're both dead and dead to
- 1:05:28you and problematic. So yeah, maybe don't watch it.
- 1:05:32I'll watch, OK? Or if you really want to, if
- 1:05:35you're like, you know what, I just want to feel something.
- 1:05:38Put it on. Deep in my heart, you can put it
- 1:05:40on. As long as it's good.
- 1:05:42I just need a good like you're saying I need something.
- 1:05:44Yeah. To grasp onto.
- 1:05:46You know, I just watched something a couple of days ago
- 1:05:50that I was like, God, that was so good and what was it?
- 1:05:52It wasn't Pootie Tang, which of course I did watch and say I
- 1:05:55didn't hate it. Every time, like I used to be at
- 1:06:00college, I used to be like, that's my favorite movie.
- 1:06:02And people would crack up. Yeah.
- 1:06:04They'd be like, Chanel, you're so goofy.
- 1:06:06Yeah. And I was just being myself.
- 1:06:10OK, Speaking of Adam Sandler, the movie that I watched
- 1:06:12recently that I really liked was Leo with Adam Sandler.
- 1:06:16Oh, with the? With the with the he's a class
- 1:06:19pet. He's a, he's a lizard or
- 1:06:24something. OK and and critics didn't like
- 1:06:28it, but I watched it, I loved it.
- 1:06:31I. Kind of.
- 1:06:31I don't know if I've seen this one.
- 1:06:33Does he get loose? Does he have big eyes?
- 1:06:35Yeah, he's got, he's got big eyes.
- 1:06:37I don't know if I finished that one.
- 1:06:38You know what, it came on 'cause I, I was watching Chicken Run
- 1:06:42with with a friend and then the suggested movie afterward was
- 1:06:45Leo. And he was like, Oh my God, like
- 1:06:48Leo's so good, you should watch it.
- 1:06:51And so we did. I loved.
- 1:06:52It that's what I'm saying. I just need it to be good,
- 1:06:55otherwise I'm going to have to watch a horror.
- 1:06:57I need something. Yeah.
- 1:06:59You know, like, yeah, yeah. I'm like, I just watched Paul
- 1:07:04with the alien, you know, they. Oh, yeah, that was funny.
- 1:07:07Nice. I was like, this is cute.
- 1:07:08Yeah. But the movie I probably like to
- 1:07:11share that people had mixed feelings about was him.
- 1:07:13I really liked him. Oh, I never saw him.
- 1:07:16I like that movie a lot. I like that movie a lot.
- 1:07:19It was a goodie. OK.
- 1:07:20Is there anything else that that you recommend for the for the
- 1:07:23people? To watch to watch.
- 1:07:26That you've watched recently that you liked?
- 1:07:27I think the people should watch. Yeah, the old lady in the old
- 1:07:30lady in the knife. OK, I watched that and it was
- 1:07:34completely in its original language, which I think was
- 1:07:38Korean. I'm not sure.
- 1:07:39Cool. And I didn't have any subtitles
- 1:07:41but it was good. You didn't have any subtitles?
- 1:07:43No. You just watch.
- 1:07:44I just watched it. Good for you.
- 1:07:46Yeah, Because I was like, I'm gonna get the point, like you
- 1:07:48said. Like I'm gonna.
- 1:07:50Get It's like Pootie Tang. You might not know what he's
- 1:07:51saying, but you know what? He means.
- 1:07:52I know what it means. You know what it means.
- 1:07:54You know, yeah. So yeah, I would definitely say
- 1:07:58watch him. I would definitely say watch
- 1:08:01man. I watched the Longest walk, The
- 1:08:03Long Walk. The Long Walk.
- 1:08:05It was based off a Stephen King book.
- 1:08:06That was Sadie, that was sad. That made me cry.
- 1:08:09You wanted it to be scary and it said instead it made you sad.
- 1:08:12Yeah, I was like, this is dystopian and too close, like a
- 1:08:15lot of dystopian movies are like.
- 1:08:17Hey, this is close to home. Not now. 28 years later, I was
- 1:08:20like, me, I'm back. OK, OK, OK.
- 1:08:23I just been watching. I've been watching a lot of
- 1:08:24them. Watch everything.
- 1:08:25I think people should watch, watch.
- 1:08:27Everything. Everything.
- 1:08:28Yeah. Except for what was the one that
- 1:08:31you were talking about earlier that you were like, don't watch
- 1:08:33that. What did I say?
- 1:08:36Oh, Friday after next. Oh yeah, you don't have to watch
- 1:08:38that. Everything else, go ahead and
- 1:08:40watch it. That's my favorite Christmas
- 1:08:41movie though, yeah. So tis the season.
- 1:08:44But if you're offended easily, absolutely not.
- 1:08:47Yeah, you got to have thick skin.
- 1:08:48For and you got to realize that was made in 2002, yeah.
- 1:08:51And so during that time, it was state-of-the-art and it was
- 1:08:54appropriate and now it's not. And now it's not, and we're
- 1:08:57coming. We're brave to say that.
- 1:08:59Yeah, I just have to be real. It's like, you know, there's a
- 1:09:02time. Yeah, 400 years ago, slavery was
- 1:09:05state-of-the-art. Now it's not.
- 1:09:10And now it's not. So it's like you just got to be
- 1:09:12real about like at a time people were like, this is great, this
- 1:09:15is what we're doing. Totally.
- 1:09:17It's not. It's not anymore.
- 1:09:18It's not it's. So it's not going to be a
- 1:09:20template for how we behave. Absolutely not.
- 1:09:23No, no, no. And I don't even know if Gen.
- 1:09:26ZI don't know what Gen. Z or any of the young UNS.
- 1:09:29Yeah, I don't know what y'all find funny.
- 1:09:32Yeah, 67. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:34I watch YouTube a lot. I don't.
- 1:09:36That's why honestly. OK again, let me just say Pootie
- 1:09:41Tang works better as a sketch. Maybe the young people would
- 1:09:44like it if they saw it on YouTube or?
- 1:09:47If. They saw it in the real Yeah and
- 1:09:50Little. Little snippets, little
- 1:09:52snippets. It works better as a sketch than
- 1:09:54it does this. Feature little Instagram show.
- 1:09:56Yeah. Yeah, I would like that.
- 1:09:58I'd like that. Yeah.
- 1:09:59Or as a comic book, I think either one I would like.
- 1:10:02Yeah. Like if I read that comic book
- 1:10:03and it was like, this is from somewhere else in the world, I'd
- 1:10:08be like, this makes sense. Yeah.
- 1:10:11But I guess it it makes sense it's from America too.
- 1:10:14Right, the commentary on like, American films again, we're too
- 1:10:18young. We're too cute.
- 1:10:20To really understand what the what the original source
- 1:10:23material material is for the satire.
- 1:10:26What am IA? What am IA Scholar No.
- 1:10:29Yeah, 'cause I haven't watched that many blaxploitation films,
- 1:10:32but I know their, I know their point.
- 1:10:34Yeah, but it also is like it's very loose.
- 1:10:36Yeah, like and like they haven't even made one since what, like
- 1:10:39shaft? Yeah, right.
- 1:10:42The like late 90s. I was trying to see if they were
- 1:10:45trying. To like in the news.
- 1:10:46But I don't it was like a period of time.
- 1:10:48Yeah, but it's like if you if you watch Pootie Tang for the
- 1:10:54first time now and you're a young person, do you still get
- 1:10:58it? Probably not.
- 1:11:00No. Because you could get like.
- 1:11:04Just what's happening? Yeah, it's very like this face
- 1:11:07value unless you're, you know, unless you're a real, you know.
- 1:11:12Very likely of capitalism. You know that stuff, you know
- 1:11:15you know. Capitalism.
- 1:11:16You know, goofy little joke. Yeah, you probably have to smoke
- 1:11:19some weed. You know, you know, like.
- 1:11:21But you're not going to know, you know, like people aren't
- 1:11:25going to know 6-7 one day. That's true.
- 1:11:28And people will be like, why? That's my main Gen.
- 1:11:30Z. That's Gen. alpha.
- 1:11:31I don't even know which generation that is.
- 1:11:33Oh my God, I actually don't know.
- 1:11:35Either I'm just on TikTok. It's so tough.
- 1:11:39I was on the bus knowing and like 300 high schoolers got on.
- 1:11:42Oh no, that's my nightmare. Literal numbers and I was like
- 1:11:46what? I was like why aren't y'all at
- 1:11:47school? What it was 3/30?
- 1:11:51And you were like, someone has to, someone has to be in school.
- 1:11:54Yeah, I was like, what can be fitting in with you guys?
- 1:11:56I'm 16. Oh my God. 30 year.
- 1:11:59Old yeah, teenager. Look at my perfect skin.
- 1:12:02You guys see my camo? Yeah.
- 1:12:04Yeah. No, this shirt is older than.
- 1:12:07Than them, yeah, a lot of them. Yeah, this shirt's 23 years old.
- 1:12:12Yeah, yeah. So it is older than all.
- 1:12:16Yeah. Yep, Yep, Yep.
- 1:12:18Chanel, do you have any final thoughts that we need to leave
- 1:12:21the listeners with or anything else that we didn't cover?
- 1:12:22I mean, God, we've been here about the same about the runtime
- 1:12:25of the of the movie. It's.
- 1:12:26Yeah, look at it. We're like.
- 1:12:29Here's a clip of. Podcast and it's just we just
- 1:12:34keep going sadate. What are you saying to me right
- 1:12:42now? What the fuck are you saying?
- 1:12:47And. What the fuck are you saying?
- 1:13:03Crack up about that. So I know we used to get on
- 1:13:05people's nerves as teenagers. Of course, of course you were
- 1:13:08teenagers. Of course, Oh my gosh, Oh my
- 1:13:11God. Every time I see teenagers, I'm
- 1:13:12like I get it and I get it and I get it and also of course I get
- 1:13:16it. You're sort of like, oh, I'm so
- 1:13:17sorry, world that I was like that.
- 1:13:20Oh my gosh, yeah. And I wasn't even a bad one, you
- 1:13:22know, like I was pretty shy. But like, you can always tell.
- 1:13:25Like there was something I got on the bus.
- 1:13:27I'm like, how do you have all this energy during school,
- 1:13:28'cause you will sleep? Yeah, or cocaine.
- 1:13:34Whoa. Or now they.
- 1:13:37'D be drinking Prime and I don't even know what the kids drink,
- 1:13:39Mr. Beast, and I don't even know what's in that shit.
- 1:13:43I'm not eating. You know what?
- 1:13:43I had to do the other day. I was like, I had to admit
- 1:13:46myself. I don't actually know, like who
- 1:13:50Mr. Beast is or what he does. I had to look him up.
- 1:13:52I looked at his Wikipedia page. Yeah, 'cause I'm like, you know,
- 1:13:57I know that he's like a guy online, but like, I don't know
- 1:14:00anything about what he does or who he is.
- 1:14:03He's a YouTube. Yeah, he the most subscribed to
- 1:14:08person on YouTube. That's wild, I know.
- 1:14:12I think he's a Taurus. Really.
- 1:14:14That's, I think, I don't know, but that if people are like,
- 1:14:16that's a Taurus, I'm like, OK, all right, yeah.
- 1:14:19You say I like you a little bit better, but yeah, I know nothing
- 1:14:22about him. Yeah.
- 1:14:23But that's because. We are.
- 1:14:28Maybe too old? Yeah, I'm cool.
- 1:14:30I'm like good. Yeah, I feel like we're at the
- 1:14:32perfect age, actually. Yes.
- 1:14:34I feel a little too young and a little too old both at the same
- 1:14:39time, and I think that means I must be just right.
- 1:14:42Yeah, I do feel like a child most of the time, but that's by
- 1:14:45choice. That's 'cause you're watching
- 1:14:47Pootie Tang. Pootie Tang.
- 1:14:52Oh my God, do yourselves a favor, everybody go look up that
- 1:14:55song, the the 702 music video for Pootie Tang.
- 1:15:01If nothing else, watch that, you know, put it on on your way to
- 1:15:05work. Put it on when you're on your
