Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Four Finger discounted.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Breaking news, mister Davis, breaking news, broke everything down, broke
- 0:21Speaker 2: the internet this morning.
- 0:22Speaker 1: That's true. Yeah, it wasn't Kim Kardashian, remember her breaking
- 0:25Speaker 1: the internet? It was news of what's.
- 0:28Speaker 2: The new Sisters Me be coming out? Finally, finally they
- 0:31Speaker 2: lied to us. They lied to us through a chalkbaor gag.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Well or did they I mean the cat Well, sorry,
- 0:39Speaker 1: the blackball gag or the chalkball gag was eerily prophetic. Yeah,
- 0:44Speaker 1: we were not wait twenty years as indeed, but they
- 0:46Speaker 1: did weigh twenty yd They lied to us through chalkpak. Okay, fine,
- 0:49Speaker 1: they misdirected us. Let's say, let's not accuse people of
- 0:53Speaker 1: deceit or lying like a poo You lied to him
- 0:54Speaker 1: through song. Well you're just throwing out references think of past.
- 0:58Speaker 1: But yes, indeed, we woke up this morning here in
- 1:00Speaker 1: to discover that a new Simpsons movie is on the way.
- 1:04Speaker 2: It's going to be called the Simpsons Movie too, the
- 1:05Speaker 2: Simpsons sequel. What do you think they're going to call
- 1:07Speaker 2: this movie?
- 1:08Speaker 1: I think they wouldn't be that lacking in the imagination.
- 1:11Speaker 1: They go the Simpsons Movie two, the Simpsons Movie something
- 1:15Speaker 1: we don't really get numbers, or do we get numbers anymore.
- 1:18Speaker 1: We occasionally do, but that's usually with announcements, you know,
- 1:21Speaker 1: like when Disney will say we've got new product coming up,
- 1:24Speaker 1: and it'll be like Toy Story five, Incredibles three and
- 1:27Speaker 1: all that. But I think a lot of the times
- 1:28Speaker 1: you'll be finding that, you know, they'll come up with
- 1:30Speaker 1: new titles or subtitles like all the Mission Impossible movies,
- 1:33Speaker 1: for instance, or were like Ghost Protocol or Rogue Nation
- 1:36Speaker 1: or The Final Reckoning or you know, fast than the
- 1:38Speaker 1: Furious became, well they had numbers for a while, but
- 1:40Speaker 1: they also became the Fate of the Furious and all
- 1:43Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. So hopefully they do a bit
- 1:44Speaker 1: of wordplay. We would expect as much from the makers
- 1:47Speaker 1: of The Simpsons, wouldn't.
- 1:48Speaker 2: We would indeed, yes. And I'll tell you what, I'm
- 1:50Speaker 2: really excited. It's been, as I said, twenty years since
- 1:53Speaker 2: the first movie. I did see an interesting tweet that
- 1:56Speaker 2: said more time will transpire between the two Simpsons movies
- 1:59Speaker 2: than between the show start and the original Simpsons movie.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Oh wow, because it was season eighteen. That's not at
- 2:03Speaker 2: all sobering. Twenty years between sequels. That's a long time.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I'm just sitting here thinking, I wonder if what are
- 2:11Speaker 2: I gonna do?
- 2:12Speaker 1: Because my grit were the first Simpsons movie was that.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I really enjoyed the first half an hour because I've
- 2:17Speaker 2: always said on the podcast, I'm a big fan of
- 2:19Speaker 2: when they incorporate as many characters as possible town based stories,
- 2:23Speaker 2: and that's what the first movie felt like. For the
- 2:25Speaker 2: first half an hour. A lot of Simpsons characters were involved.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Then they left the dome, and once they left the
- 2:29Speaker 2: dome and it almost felt like Springfield became forgotten. Yeah,
- 2:33Speaker 2: just the thought got back to and cut back to
- 2:35Speaker 2: and cut back to my way, that's what's going on
- 2:36Speaker 2: in the dome. But it's a margin Homer crisis, I
- 2:39Speaker 2: think for the Simpsons movie too, or it sounds sun
- 2:42Speaker 2: that the Simpsons movie too. The Simpsons sequel, I'm going
- 2:45Speaker 2: to call it that. Let's not have a margin Homer
- 2:47Speaker 2: crisis story.
- 2:48Speaker 1: We don't need those anymore.
- 2:49Speaker 2: We've had thirty plus years of that. Let's think of
- 2:53Speaker 2: something original. Another grit was always you brought in this
- 2:56Speaker 2: villain that nobody really cared about, still voiced by Albert Brooks.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Everyone saying should have brought back side show Bob or
- 3:01Speaker 2: Hank Scorpio.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I don't know. I've forgotten even the name of the
- 3:05Speaker 1: of the of the villain rough something right, Russ Cargill was, Yeah,
- 3:08Speaker 1: Hank Scorbio in name on Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 2: The more I think about it, I don't know whether
- 3:13Speaker 2: Hank Scorpio would have been a good idea. It would
- 3:16Speaker 2: have been good for the hardcore fans, but as Matt
- 3:18Speaker 2: Salmon and algef said, since you can't just appeal to
- 3:21Speaker 2: the hard course, you've got to appeal to a widespread audience,
- 3:24Speaker 2: and they would have. They were worried that if you
- 3:27Speaker 2: introduced Hank Scorpio there would have been his expectation from
- 3:30Speaker 2: the writers that you know this guy, so I don't
- 3:32Speaker 2: to explain to who he is, which is why the
- 3:34Speaker 2: way with Russ car Gill, I still wish they had
- 3:37Speaker 2: in Corporate I missed.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Honestly, I think it's about as much work introducing a
- 3:41Speaker 1: new villain as it is reintroducing an old one. Yeah,
- 3:44Speaker 1: and in fact, the fact that Hanks Godby is a
- 3:46Speaker 1: pretty loved character or a pretty well.
- 3:49Speaker 2: He appeared in one episode though well true, but he's
- 3:51Speaker 2: very profound Well.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Having said that. I mean, if he's only got one
- 3:53Speaker 1: episode worth a backstory, it can't be that difficult to
- 3:56Speaker 1: reintroduce him and give him motivation to be part of
- 3:58Speaker 1: this news story. I think they kind of dropped the
- 4:00Speaker 1: ball in all one. So I mean, it's great getting
- 4:02Speaker 1: out of Brooks back, and you know he always delivers. Yeah.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I think of Simpson's meme culture though, with the social media,
- 4:09Speaker 2: I think now you could bring back a hang scorpio
- 4:11Speaker 2: and even the casual person will go, oh, yes, that
- 4:13Speaker 2: guy from the Simpsons because it's just been so all
- 4:15Speaker 2: over social media for so long.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Now, or even just make a jogo if you don't
- 4:18Speaker 1: know who this character is. Yeah, like you know, some
- 4:21Speaker 1: people go.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Who what, Yeah, have a quick flashback when that came.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, have a quick flashback and the everyone goes,
- 4:27Speaker 1: oh that guy. Yeah. I think that will work great.
- 4:29Speaker 1: But yeah, but let's not even talk about that because
- 4:31Speaker 1: that's an old movie and this is a new This.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Is the new one here. So what do you think
- 4:35Speaker 2: that could be a story? As I was saying, I
- 4:37Speaker 2: think they need to steer away from it being a
- 4:39Speaker 2: margin Homer crisis story.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I think they very much have to do that. Oh yeah,
- 4:42Speaker 1: maybe not have Homer margin with the vocals, and for
- 4:44Speaker 1: various reasons, not just because I'm not saying that their
- 4:47Speaker 1: story is played out. Remember this, this is called the Simpsons.
- 4:50Speaker 1: It is about the Simpsons, but it's also expanded to
- 4:52Speaker 1: become about Springfield and the wider community. Yeah. I'm going
- 4:56Speaker 1: to quote a social media friend of mine who wasn't
- 5:01Speaker 1: necessarily scathing about this, but they well they said, this
- 5:05Speaker 1: is going to be the fucking Irishman. You know that
- 5:07Speaker 1: Martin Scorsese movie where they d aged you know, de
- 5:09Speaker 1: Niro and Pacino and all that, but it also looked like,
- 5:12Speaker 1: you know, Robert de Niro is kicking the hell out
- 5:13Speaker 1: of someone as his thirty year old self, and it
- 5:15Speaker 1: looks like that's a seventy year old man kicking someone
- 5:17Speaker 1: outside everyone is one hundred and fifty years old. In well,
- 5:21Speaker 1: in terms of like we've talked about this before with
- 5:24Speaker 1: Dancy's voice, but certainly with Julie Cabnet's Boye. Much love
- 5:26Speaker 1: and respect to Julie Kabnah, but her voice sounds like gradmar. Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So whether you know they do some digital trickery or
- 5:36Speaker 1: something like that to sort of spruce things up, but
- 5:38Speaker 1: I mean, I think having them as the center, it's
- 5:42Speaker 1: too much wear and tear and it's going to be
- 5:44Speaker 1: too noticeable. Now you can work around that absolutely. What
- 5:47Speaker 1: I was thinking was, yeah, the two thousand and seven
- 5:49Speaker 1: movie was kind of like a disaster movie in a
- 5:51Speaker 1: lot of ways. It used disaster movie tropes, like with
- 5:53Speaker 1: the dome and everything like that. They were popular I
- 5:57Speaker 1: think in the in the two thousands. I'm wondering what's
- 6:01Speaker 1: sort of popular now, and I.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Don't know what is popular now, but I wouldn't even
- 6:05Speaker 2: say superhero movies are popular now because you think this
- 6:08Speaker 2: is what I think. They also need to steer away
- 6:09Speaker 2: from trying to be relevant relevant in that point in
- 6:13Speaker 2: time and saying that no sort of current pop culture
- 6:16Speaker 2: references and things like that, because people watching it twenty
- 6:19Speaker 2: years later will have no idea what's going on. I
- 6:20Speaker 2: don't think they need to try and be cool. They
- 6:23Speaker 2: need to try and be the Simpsons again. Go back
- 6:25Speaker 2: to gold Near. What made it so good was that
- 6:27Speaker 2: you didn't it didn't try and feel like where the
- 6:30Speaker 2: cool new thing at this point in time. It was
- 6:32Speaker 2: just will make culture references that were forever references, you.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Know, And yeah, the people who love us will come
- 6:38Speaker 1: to us, and if it's good, other people will as well. Yeah,
- 6:41Speaker 1: what I was thinking was, I know they've already done
- 6:43Speaker 1: like a mad Mad Mad Mad World parody on an
- 6:46Speaker 1: episode of the show. But I mean the Giant Tea,
- 6:48Speaker 1: the Giant t I'm a big fan of just something
- 6:50Speaker 1: where everyone is involved and everyone is sort of working
- 6:53Speaker 1: towards a common goal. They've all got their subplots within
- 6:55Speaker 1: the big plot. So something like your movie Rat Race,
- 6:58Speaker 1: which you enjoy, right, That's exactly what I was thinking of,
- 7:01Speaker 1: or even like this, even like the Canniball Run. You know,
- 7:04Speaker 1: it's like, Okay, there's something on the other side of
- 7:07Speaker 1: the country, we have to go do it. One of
- 7:11Speaker 1: my favorite cartoons when I was going out was Wacky
- 7:13Speaker 1: Races Adorre. It was it just a race.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Every single day, shenanigans and.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Shenanigans would happen, you know, and there was always the villain,
- 7:22Speaker 1: you know, dictatic always yeah, but you never know who
- 7:26Speaker 1: would win, you know. I would always throw a bone
- 7:28Speaker 1: to everyone who was involved in the Wacky Races, but
- 7:30Speaker 1: everyone had this sort of subplot. So I think if
- 7:33Speaker 1: you make it a road movie or something, a race
- 7:35Speaker 1: road movie, true. I do think.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I think me personally, I would prefer it's kept in Springfield.
- 7:41Speaker 2: I think you just need to try and keep it
- 7:42Speaker 2: as Springfield based as possible. Don't try and incorporate all
- 7:45Speaker 2: these like Russ Cargill and the government and all this stuff.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Like I don't want the government. I just want Springfield. Yeah,
- 7:51Speaker 2: I want a Springfield based story.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I think you can keep Springfield in the show. I
- 7:55Speaker 1: think I think for this episode, you take the people
- 7:57Speaker 1: of Springfield and you put them on the road, and
- 7:59Speaker 1: you take them to be these other places. Now, whether
- 8:01Speaker 1: it's cities and towns that have been created by the
- 8:04Speaker 1: show like Ogden, Capitol City, Capital City, all that kind
- 8:09Speaker 1: of stuff. Yeah, take us somewhere we haven't been before,
- 8:12Speaker 1: but take us there with in familiar company, you know,
- 8:15Speaker 1: and make them kind of fish out of water, you know,
- 8:18Speaker 1: not just a Simpsons family, but you know, and have
- 8:20Speaker 1: have wacky team ups have you know, mow and well
- 8:24Speaker 1: there's a very unimagined wacky team. But yeah, put Lenny
- 8:26Speaker 1: cale Moe in a car together.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Most in a Poo's gone now it doesn't exist anymore apparently,
- 8:32Speaker 2: but yeah, that's shock.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Bring back the popular imagine.
- 8:36Speaker 2: They put a poo on the poster for a Simpsons sequel,
- 8:38Speaker 2: I think people would go batshit crazy for it.
- 8:41Speaker 1: We'll just hav him sort of like leaning in from
- 8:42Speaker 1: the side. He's back fantastic. So that's that's my suggestion.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I think get them out and seeing America or the
- 8:50Speaker 1: Simpsons version of America. Yeah, I think that. Yeah, put
- 8:54Speaker 1: Springfield on the road.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Do you think I say format bending like a twenty
- 8:58Speaker 2: two short films kind of vibe could work for a movie.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I think it needs to have an overall story like
- 9:04Speaker 2: that that's not a bunch of into twiny stories as
- 9:07Speaker 2: I said, I.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Think you need one big story and substories within the story. Yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 1: something that's happening to everybody and everybody's reaction to it.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Why has it turns out that this is the final
- 9:18Speaker 2: episode no one knows about until I actually watch it.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Oh wow, so this is this is the this is
- 9:24Speaker 2: the grand Final, but no one knows the grand finale.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Hope not. I can't see it being in that case,
- 9:28Speaker 1: I don't think. So it was coming out.
- 9:30Speaker 2: So it's coming out in twenty twenty seven, four days
- 9:32Speaker 2: before the twenty year anniversary of the original film. Now
- 9:36Speaker 2: they've canceled a Marvel film to splice this in a
- 9:40Speaker 2: Marvel product or Was this always going to be the
- 9:43Speaker 2: sins this movie? And they just called it the Marvel
- 9:45Speaker 2: unnamed project so no one would guess, so they can
- 9:48Speaker 2: make the big anounced.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Look, that's very top secretive review. That's very I don't
- 9:52Speaker 1: know I would do that.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I wouldn't want news leaking that this is coming out.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I will want to I would want to control the narrative.
- 9:56Speaker 2: I want to announce it and have no one because
- 9:58Speaker 2: no one had any idea this was coming. No one
- 10:00Speaker 2: had any idea this was coming.
- 10:02Speaker 1: We don't know much at this stage. We are I
- 10:05Speaker 1: just found out that this maybe what three hours ago?
- 10:08Speaker 1: He woke up and yeah, check my email.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Oh I couldn't believe.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Well, this can't be real. So all we really know
- 10:13Speaker 1: is that there's a proposed release date of July twenty three,
- 10:16Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven, and this was originally slated for an
- 10:19Speaker 1: untitled Marvel project or product.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Now there's no Marvel film between Doomsday and what's the
- 10:25Speaker 2: next one?
- 10:26Speaker 1: Was a secret war something like that? Yeah, this isn't
- 10:29Speaker 1: between that. How much has Marve Marvel been de valued
- 10:32Speaker 1: that this supposedly big comeback of the Avengers. We can't
- 10:35Speaker 1: even really remember the titles of We're not really giving
- 10:37Speaker 1: a fuck.
- 10:38Speaker 2: It It ended with Endgame, man like Endgame was the
- 10:41Speaker 2: n It did end with then game.
- 10:42Speaker 1: You need yeah, you need to take Sorry, I'm just
- 10:44Speaker 1: repeating myself here, but you need to take three or
- 10:47Speaker 1: four years. Let everybody go. You know, greet was those
- 10:51Speaker 1: Morbile movies. Twenty years. Have we seen me do his
- 10:53Speaker 1: mobile movies? Toga and then you come back? Yeah, yeah,
- 10:56Speaker 1: you can throw anything in our suckers and we'll be Marvel. Yeah. No, man,
- 11:00Speaker 1: that's what they're doing with the Simpsons twenty years since.
- 11:02Speaker 2: So when they make this movie, who do you think
- 11:04Speaker 2: they need to have in mind? I've always said with
- 11:07Speaker 2: the original, I wish I had more of the hardcore
- 11:10Speaker 2: fans in mind, because I am like a hardcore fan.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I'm I'm a fan of the show. I grew up
- 11:14Speaker 2: with the show, and I felt that they appealed too
- 11:17Speaker 2: much to common viewers and the casual viewer who might
- 11:19Speaker 2: not have been watching the show at that point. I
- 11:21Speaker 2: think with this one here, you can take the punt
- 11:24Speaker 2: and know that the people who are going to go
- 11:26Speaker 2: see this are Simpsons fans appeal to them. Still have
- 11:30Speaker 2: that casual audience in mind, but really don't go overboard,
- 11:33Speaker 2: but go more for we want to make the movie
- 11:36Speaker 2: that Simpsons fans want.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I honestly think you can put chocolate in the peanut butter,
- 11:40Speaker 1: you know, I mean, these are smart. How many times
- 11:42Speaker 1: have we said in recent episodes, certainly when we're talking
- 11:45Speaker 1: about classic episodes, when we've had our guests on, like
- 11:48Speaker 1: Ed Cavali or Nina or or Daniel or those people,
- 11:51Speaker 1: how much we sort of respect My holy shit, they're
- 11:55Speaker 1: geniuses who make this. When we did Arenyview with Alan Seagull,
- 11:57Speaker 1: for instance, and you're talking about the incredible brain these people. Now, Look,
- 12:01Speaker 1: a lot of these people aren't still uninvolved, but I'm
- 12:02Speaker 1: getting the people who are working on the Simpson now
- 12:05Speaker 1: are no dummies. And the people they'll get for the
- 12:07Speaker 1: movie will divisional ones back. That's what they did for
- 12:09Speaker 1: the first movie. Yeah. Yea very very clever, and I'm
- 12:11Speaker 1: sure they'll be able to fold in ways. It's like,
- 12:13Speaker 1: this is a movie that's going to appeal to a
- 12:15Speaker 1: lot of people. We're going to make a big screen
- 12:17Speaker 1: spectacle that's going to appeal to a lot of people,
- 12:20Speaker 1: and within that we can include not even just Easter.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I mean we can involve jokes and storylines and bits
- 12:26Speaker 1: and pieces of all sizes. Three people will get that,
- 12:29Speaker 1: but the three people who'll get that joke will fucking
- 12:31Speaker 1: love it. Yeah, thirty percent of the population or the
- 12:35Speaker 1: audience will get that and they're that's hilarious. And it's
- 12:37Speaker 1: also a call back to that episode that I remember.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I think you can have all of it, I think,
- 12:42Speaker 1: and particularly when you work in a movie. I mean,
- 12:45Speaker 1: I can't imagine it's going to be that much longer
- 12:47Speaker 1: than ninety minutes. I don't think they'll go the whole
- 12:49Speaker 1: two and a half hour round that everybody's going these days.
- 12:51Speaker 1: But still, that's three episodes back to back, four episodes
- 12:55Speaker 1: back to back. Really Yeah, so no, I think you
- 12:58Speaker 1: can do that. Well, hopefully they can do that.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I just I just think I don't know. I
- 13:02Speaker 2: worry that they're going to try and be too modernize
- 13:06Speaker 2: Simpsons and go, well, the kids, the kids are gonna watching.
- 13:08Speaker 2: We need to make a movie that the kids are
- 13:09Speaker 2: going to enjoy.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Oh, we need to get we need to throwing celebrity cameos,
- 13:12Speaker 1: we need to throw it up to the minute references
- 13:14Speaker 1: all that. Well, let's not forget. I mean, this is
- 13:16Speaker 1: show business we're talking about it. I mean, I don't
- 13:18Speaker 1: think Fox and Disney and all the people associated with this,
- 13:21Speaker 1: they're not doing it just to like, hey, Simpsons fans,
- 13:24Speaker 1: we know you've been loyal over the year. He will
- 13:26Speaker 1: throw your bone. No, they want as many people through
- 13:28Speaker 1: the door as possible.
- 13:29Speaker 2: They didn't feel like peak Simpsons did that though. It didn't
- 13:31Speaker 2: feel like they were getting guest cameos on just to
- 13:33Speaker 2: say look who we've got. It felt like we're getting
- 13:35Speaker 2: guest stars on, but they were playing characters.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Well yeah, but the Simpsons name or the Simpsons brand
- 13:40Speaker 1: had enough clad by that says like, well you'll show up.
- 13:43Speaker 1: I just well that stage it was cool.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Well see here they can. The first movie was this
- 13:50Speaker 2: is our first film, right, They threw it out there.
- 13:51Speaker 2: We got what we got, And I do feel I'm
- 13:54Speaker 2: saying it fell for Cliff is too harsh, Like I
- 13:57Speaker 2: always say, once they left the Domate falla the Cliff
- 13:58Speaker 2: a bit and it got to be better to Towards
- 14:00Speaker 2: the end the Homer epiphany moment, it was just like,
- 14:03Speaker 2: what are we doing? Here dragged on forever. Hopefully they
- 14:05Speaker 2: can watch that and listen, because they do. They do
- 14:08Speaker 2: listen to their fans and go, what didn't they like?
- 14:10Speaker 1: What did they like?
- 14:11Speaker 2: Let's tweak it and hopefully we can give something more
- 14:13Speaker 2: of what the Simpsons fans want. But what is a
- 14:17Speaker 2: Simpsons fan in twenty twenty five?
- 14:18Speaker 1: Is it me? Or is it kids? Well? To quote
- 14:21Speaker 1: the the girl from the from the taco Ed, why
- 14:23Speaker 1: can't we have both? Yeah?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Why can't we have both? But I do think a
- 14:25Speaker 2: lot of people who were watching the Simpsons movie, the
- 14:28Speaker 2: original one, aren't watching the Simpsons anymore.
- 14:30Speaker 1: That is correct.

- 14:56Speaker 1: I just sent you a little a little graph little
- 14:59Speaker 1: pie shop because you know, people are starting meming and uh,
- 15:02Speaker 1: stuff like crazy to see this one. What people remember
- 15:04Speaker 1: from the Simpsons movie, it's like little little wedges of
- 15:07Speaker 1: the pie saying the ending, the plot, the funny parts,
- 15:10Speaker 1: the mostly big part is Spider Pig. Spider Pig. That's true. Yeah,
- 15:13Speaker 1: well that's true.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Yeah, it was all over the commercials obviously. But I
- 15:15Speaker 2: did put a post out on the page saying, it's
- 15:17Speaker 2: hard to explain to my kids why this was so big,
- 15:21Speaker 2: and I never really got it. I never really thought
- 15:23Speaker 2: Spider Pig was all that funny. I liked the Harry
- 15:25Speaker 2: Popper gag more than the Spider p the spider big thing.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I think Mike Reese wrote that, and I think he
- 15:30Speaker 2: sort of wrote it as it's like, as a bit silly,
- 15:32Speaker 2: and it just exploded and it became this big thing.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Was it just that moment where it's just one of
- 15:36Speaker 2: those things where everyone knows it so we can sort
- 15:39Speaker 2: of quote and go.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Hey, yeah, I know what you're talking about. Sort of
- 15:42Speaker 1: that's it's riding the way with something that was very
- 15:44Speaker 1: very popular at the time. I mean, yeah, the Spider
- 15:46Speaker 1: Man movies were pretty huge. Yeah, and yeah everyone well,
- 15:50Speaker 1: certainly the NCU wasn't a thing. Yeah, no, no, but
- 15:53Speaker 1: a spider Man. Sam spiders were and Spider Man's been
- 15:57Speaker 1: a you know, perennially popular character for goodness now how long.
- 16:00Speaker 1: And you know you're dealing with a generation X older
- 16:04Speaker 1: millennial millennial audience as well that would remember from Saturday
- 16:08Speaker 1: Morning cartoons Spider Man Spider Man, which is the fucking
- 16:10Speaker 1: catchy tune by itself. So you know, you throw a
- 16:12Speaker 1: pig into that, you have Homer doors, put a clock
- 16:15Speaker 1: in it, put an oink in it.
- 16:17Speaker 2: One thing. I will see you touched on this earlier,
- 16:19Speaker 2: I will say, I hope they don't introduce characters who
- 16:24Speaker 2: are random original characters who are never going to see again.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Like Colin was the boy that Lisa fell in love with.
- 16:29Speaker 2: We never saw him again. Russ Cargill, we never saw
- 16:32Speaker 2: him again. Don't bring in characters if you have no
- 16:35Speaker 2: plan going forward with them. Just use the established universe
- 16:38Speaker 2: that you've got.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Where I agree with you is, yeah, make it. This
- 16:43Speaker 1: has to be the for the fans in the sense
- 16:44Speaker 1: of like, make use of what you've got and celebrate
- 16:47Speaker 1: what you've got. That's it. Yeah. Yeah, So if you
- 16:51Speaker 1: must have a villain, use your existing villain, make make burns.
- 16:55Speaker 1: That's what I was going to say, make Burns the
- 16:56Speaker 1: mastermind of the race. It's like, oh, I'm dang Smithers,
- 16:59Speaker 1: and I've got my fortune somewhere across the terrible Burns
- 17:02Speaker 1: in personation, sorry, on the other side of the country.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Someone could go get it. Yeah, and blah blah blah
- 17:08Speaker 1: blah blah. That's YadA YadA, YadA. Yeah, Hey, invite me
- 17:11Speaker 1: to the writers room, guys, because you'll get more gold
- 17:14Speaker 1: like that. What's step two? Stuff happens in the middle.
- 17:18Speaker 2: This is the chance to make mister Burns feel like
- 17:19Speaker 2: a villain again, feel like an evil super villain.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yeah. And then that way you can fold Smithers into
- 17:25Speaker 1: as well. He's got to be on the road to
- 17:26Speaker 1: someone like you're going to be and ears on the
- 17:28Speaker 1: rude Smithers. So he goes out there and he's like
- 17:31Speaker 1: his little melibou Stacey cars. I like that.
- 17:33Speaker 2: It's running itself, not very well, but still we're getting there.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I'm clearly invested in my opinion, in my idea here,
- 17:42Speaker 1: but I mean you've clearly you've got probably a good
- 17:44Speaker 1: one as well.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Ah. No, I actually don't mind the idea of what
- 17:47Speaker 2: I think that'd just be a fun episode at least.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Well yeah, but I mean if you do it sort
- 17:51Speaker 1: of like almost in Fast and Furious style, or you
- 17:55Speaker 1: put in nods like the way Fast and Furious sort
- 17:58Speaker 1: of operates with its car chase of things like that,
- 18:00Speaker 1: I mean it's got to also be a movie. It's
- 18:02Speaker 1: got to be bigger than a TV episode, doesn't it.
- 18:05Speaker 1: And I mean I'm feel like a spectacle, not just
- 18:08Speaker 1: in terms of story, but in terms of well, I
- 18:12Speaker 1: could easily wait three weeks and it's going to be
- 18:14Speaker 1: on streaming anyways, like no, get people to reasona to leave.
- 18:16Speaker 2: The houseeah, And they're gonna have key moments because I
- 18:17Speaker 2: remember when the original one came out, they said someone's
- 18:19Speaker 2: going to die. It tended to be doctor Nikuhn don't
- 18:21Speaker 2: get getting brought back anyway. And then you had Bart,
- 18:25Speaker 2: you saw his wiener, you saw his wien, which was
- 18:27Speaker 2: like a big talking point, like, oh my god, a
- 18:29Speaker 2: couple if they did that, what do you think would
- 18:31Speaker 2: be a shocking moment in twenty twenty five for a
- 18:33Speaker 2: Simpsons movie to do a swear word baby, which I
- 18:37Speaker 2: don't think they need. No, I don't know, the Simpsons
- 18:39Speaker 2: don't need to go down that.
- 18:40Speaker 1: No, you have to be clever with that.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I wonder if this is where you kill a grandpa
- 18:47Speaker 2: or something.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Possibly yeah, oh you actually yeah, going back to mister Burns,
- 18:52Speaker 1: you actually bump him off or something and you know, no, no, having.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Just feel easy, doesn't it. Part of the joke is
- 19:00Speaker 2: only somebody. Part of the joke is that these old
- 19:02Speaker 2: characters just keep going on and on. So yeah, if
- 19:05Speaker 2: you were going to bump someone off, it would have
- 19:07Speaker 2: to be someone unexpected, and don't mark it as someone's
- 19:11Speaker 2: gonna die. Yeah no, just haven't happened because haven't mean something.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, no. My idea as well is run dry
- 19:20Speaker 1: unfortunately in terms of that.
- 19:21Speaker 2: But anyway, I'm really excited for it. It's been twenty years.
- 19:24Speaker 2: I told the kids this morning, and they were real
- 19:26Speaker 2: expcause they'd ran to the Simpsons. Now they're looking forward
- 19:28Speaker 2: to it. I said the same year as the Blue Movie.
- 19:29Speaker 2: I think the Blue Movie comes out in tween twenty seven.
- 19:31Speaker 2: I was like, which one do you want to see?
- 19:32Speaker 2: More Bluey or the Simpsons. They were like Simpsons. I
- 19:35Speaker 2: was like, Bluey, blooey. I'm trying to keep dad happy.
- 19:40Speaker 2: I wonder if this is their way of going quickly.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Bluey's becoming the number one show. Sure the kids are watching.
- 19:45Speaker 2: They're gonna movie coming out, Simpsons movie, well counteract it.
- 19:48Speaker 2: But I'm sure this has been in the works for
- 19:51Speaker 2: some time.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Of course. Yeah, we tend to poke fun at big corporation, like,
- 19:56Speaker 1: oh god, they're flying by the Sea of the Pants.
- 19:57Speaker 1: I don't with the name. They're generally run by pretty
- 19:59Speaker 1: inten leg.
- 20:00Speaker 2: And pretty savvy people, and they would be putting a
- 20:03Speaker 2: lot of plans in place now. The Simpsons staff not
- 20:06Speaker 2: burning themselves out, so we're going right Wait, look, extra
- 20:08Speaker 2: teams not working double workloads, because that's what happened with
- 20:12Speaker 2: season eighteen nineteen was the show quality really dipped for
- 20:15Speaker 2: a while because I was too hard working on the
- 20:17Speaker 2: Simpsons movie. So I'll have two separate teams going. But yeah,
- 20:21Speaker 2: I'm excited to see what is going to be leaked things.
- 20:23Speaker 2: So all we know not right now, is that it's
- 20:24Speaker 2: coming out July twenty third, twenty twenty seven. It's going
- 20:28Speaker 2: to be coming in between the two Marvel films. We
- 20:30Speaker 2: don't really know anything at all, do It's just to
- 20:31Speaker 2: release the poster on Twitter this morning, and it's just
- 20:34Speaker 2: basically the same as this front cover here the of
- 20:37Speaker 2: the movie with the doughnut being removed from the Simpsons movie.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Whether the homies coming back for sec seconds? Yes, that's
- 20:42Speaker 1: what I said. Yeah, but donut when the sprinkles on
- 20:44Speaker 1: are all a little number two.
- 20:46Speaker 2: I've got my Simpsons blu ray here. Originally saw it.
- 20:49Speaker 2: We got before America. Can you believe it the original
- 20:51Speaker 2: Simpsons movie? That's right? Yeah, so ten am screening nine
- 20:54Speaker 2: dollars for a film, so that still feels I thought
- 20:58Speaker 2: it'd be more than that less and that we always
- 21:01Speaker 2: say the movie's cost so much now and I'm like,
- 21:03Speaker 2: I paid fifteen dollars for that much more expensive. But
- 21:06Speaker 2: this is twenty years ago and I've paid nine dollars.
- 21:08Speaker 1: I was about to say, we used to be a
- 21:09Speaker 1: proper country. We never worked.
- 21:13Speaker 2: But yeah, I am very excited for this film. Let
- 21:15Speaker 2: us know in the comments what you guys think could
- 21:17Speaker 2: be the potential plot of the Simpsons sequel, which is
- 21:19Speaker 2: what we're going to be calling here at four fig
- 21:21Speaker 2: A discant for now, but we just figured this was
- 21:23Speaker 2: worthy of some breaking news because this is probably the
- 21:24Speaker 2: biggest Simpsons news in a long time.
- 21:27Speaker 1: It is. Indeed, Yes, it was certainly the most most
- 21:32Speaker 1: breaking show business this morning. I mean, I thought the
- 21:34Speaker 1: breakup of Nicole and Keith was going to be the
- 21:37Speaker 1: big news. Unfortunately split up. Apparently they've been living apart
- 21:41Speaker 1: for some time.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Then you, oh, well, we are compared it out in
- 21:45Speaker 2: the Simpsons movie. That's not going to Keith and Nicole
- 21:48Speaker 2: crisis story in the Simpsons sequel.
- 21:50Speaker 1: I think that's going to be that's going to be
- 21:51Speaker 1: old news by the time tomorrow. Let alone.
- 21:54Speaker 2: That's the problem though, when they try and do pop
- 21:56Speaker 2: culture references and things that are current when they're making
- 21:58Speaker 2: the movie, is by the time the movie comes out,
- 21:59Speaker 2: it's it's.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Old new, yes exactly. So let's not do that. Let's
- 22:02Speaker 1: just focus on Springfield. Tell tell a good funny story,
- 22:05Speaker 1: crate some gags.
- 22:06Speaker 2: As I said, though, guys, make sure your comment below
- 22:08Speaker 2: and tell us what you think could be in the
- 22:09Speaker 2: Simpsons sequel. If you're watching this on YouTube, hit that
