- 0:01First Corinthians Chapter 9, Let us pray our Lord God, who reigns
- 0:10on high, high above all circumstances, high above all
- 0:15politics, high above every principality and every ruler,
- 0:20high above every throne and every Kingdom, high above all of
- 0:25the universe. Lord, we fix our eyes upon you
- 0:30today, the author and the perfector of our faith.
- 0:34God, I pray for a supernatural feeling today.
- 0:37Fill us today with the Holy Spirit.
- 0:40Fill us today, God, and give us the mind of Christ.
- 0:44Help us to understand our worth. Help us to understand our
- 0:48dignity God, help us to know that we are your masterpiece
- 0:54made in your image. Father, I pray in the name of
- 0:57Jesus that today will be the day of salvation for many.
- 1:01Father, I pray that your word will go out to the ends of the
- 1:05earth. God, I pray for every single
- 1:08man, woman and child on planet earth to be sold out, laid down,
- 1:13lovers of Yahweh your way. Father, I pray in the name of
- 1:17Jesus God, for a worldwide revival to break out.
- 1:21God, I pray that your word will be preached in schools.
- 1:27Lord, I pray that your word will be preached in government
- 1:30offices. God, I pray that your word will
- 1:34be preached all over the world. God, I pray for many to come in
- 1:38to salvation. God, let today be the day of
- 1:41salvation. God, we see our need for
- 1:44repentance. We see that our salvation is
- 1:47drawing near. God, we see the leaves that are
- 1:50on the fig tree. God, we know that you're coming
- 1:53soon and we cry out, Maranatha, the Spirit and the Bride says,
- 1:59come, Lord, we just want you and we want all of you.
- 2:05We see you dimly, but God, we want to see you clearly.
- 2:09Father, I pray that we can put our fingers in your side and in
- 2:16your hands. God, let us lay our head upon
- 2:19your chest and hear your heartbeat.
- 2:24Father, we want to worship you in spirit and truth.
- 2:27We want to worship you all of eternity.
- 2:32It's all about you. King Jesus, we thank you for the
- 2:36inspired, infallible, inerrant word that we hold in our hands.
- 2:43We thank you for all of your words, all of your promises.
- 2:48Father, we just want you and we want more of you.
- 2:52We have tasted and we have seen and God, you satisfy us, but you
- 2:58leave us longing for more. You're the only one who can
- 3:03completely fill us into, RIP down and tear down all of our
- 3:09own wants and desires and passions and replace them with
- 3:13your heart and with your mind. Father, I pray against the
- 3:18schemes of the enemy. Bind the enemy today.
- 3:21Cast them into the judgment that you have a waiting for them.
- 3:24I pray in the name of Jesus, against all malice and deceit
- 3:28and discord. God, I pray in the name of Jesus
- 3:33for a hedge of protection around the church.
- 3:36Father, in this hour, God, let revival go from the King to the
- 3:40cattle. Father, we love you.
- 3:42King. Jesus, let your words go out and
- 3:45never return void, and you will never be mocked.
- 3:48God, you sit in heaven and you laugh.
- 3:52Father, why do the nation's rage and the people's plot in vain?
- 4:01We kiss the Son today lest he be angry.
- 4:06We love you, Jesus. You are our everything.
- 4:14We want you and you only. It is in your holy and precious
- 4:19and powerful and magnificent awesome name that I pray.
- 4:26Amen. Well, let's start in verse one.
- 4:33Am I not an apostle? Am I not free?
- 4:40Have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord?
- 4:45Are not you my work in the Lord? Paul's vindicating his
- 4:49apostleship here, which he never really needed to do.
- 4:53Friends, he received his ministry from Jesus Christ
- 4:59himself on the road to Damascus and he did not even go to the
- 5:03apostles in Jerusalem to try to get them to tell him what he
- 5:09ought to do and to preach and to say he received it all from
- 5:13Jesus Christ. And that is what Paul is
- 5:17referencing here. And he said, I established the
- 5:19church there in Corinthians, and now my apostleship is being
- 5:24called into question as if these Corinthians were very
- 5:28disrespectful towards Paul because he was not demanding his
- 5:33own rights, he was not demanding them to support him.
- 5:38And here Paul is wanting them to know that it was actually his
- 5:43humility and him being humble that proved his power and it
- 5:48proved his authority, friends. And that is what you need to
- 5:52know that meekness is not weakness.
- 5:56Meekness is only power in control.
- 5:59And Paul desired that he would be able to glory in God's
- 6:04provision and not in man's. And there are many congregations
- 6:10that are congregation LED that have a church government and
- 6:14they are pushing out the Holy Spirit before they ever push out
- 6:19the Spirit filled pastor. Two, if I be not an apostle unto
- 6:27others, yet doubtless I am to you for the seal of my
- 6:33apostleship. Are you in the Lord?
- 6:38So that is what he's wanting the Corinthians to understand is the
- 6:41fact that they exist as a church proved his apostleship. 3 My
- 6:49answer to them that do examine me is this. 4 Have we not power
- 6:56to eat and to drink? 5 Have we not power to lead
- 7:05about a sister, a wife as well as other apostles and as the
- 7:09brothers of the Lord and Cephas 6 or only I in Barnabas have not
- 7:15we the power to for bear working?
- 7:17So he's saying that Barnabas and I have the right to be supported
- 7:22by you for our food. Even if we have a a wife and a
- 7:28family that we bring along, you need to support them.
- 7:31And he's going to show us in this passage that pastors and
- 7:35ministers have the right to be supported by the gospel, by the
- 7:42congregation. And Paul actually relinquished
- 7:47that right because he did not want anyone to Lord over him and
- 7:52to try to tell him how to behave 7.
- 7:58Who goes to warfare anytime at his own expense?
- 8:03Who plants a vineyard and eats not of the fruit of it, or who
- 8:08feeds A flock and eats not of the milk of the flock?
- 8:12So that's what he's trying to say is those who preach the
- 8:14gospel are to live by the means of the gospel. 9 where it is
- 8:22written in the law of Moses, you shall not muzzle the mouth of
- 8:26the ox that treads out the corn. Does God take care for oxen?
- 8:32So what he's saying is how much more important are pastors and
- 8:35ministers if God says do not muzzle the ox as it treads the
- 8:40grain. And by the way, friends, if you
- 8:43try to do that, that ox would fall over from exhaustion.
- 8:48And there are so many people that are so scrupulous and so in
- 8:52love with mammon that they refuse to allow those who work
- 8:59to be able to eat from all of the leftovers, from all of the
- 9:07fruit that falls to the ground. And they they refuse for them to
- 9:12be able to eat. And that is what leads to
- 9:17burnout and that is what leads to so much of the compromise
- 9:23that we see is whenever a pastor has to work 2 jobs and he's
- 9:28exhausted and he can't teach and he's giving the ministry
- 9:31leftovers. And here we need to understand
- 9:36that discernment, friends, that a pastor should only have enough
- 9:42that is at the same equal playing field of the
- 9:46congregation that is there in his midst.
- 9:49He should be above the poverty line, friends, but not in
- 9:53excess, Tim. Or says he all together, for our
- 9:58sakes. For our sakes, no doubt this is
- 10:01written, that he that plow should plow and hope, and he
- 10:06that threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope. 11 If we
- 10:13have sown unto you spiritual things, it is a great thing if
- 10:16we shall reap your carnal things. 12 If others be
- 10:21partakers of this power over you, are not we rather
- 10:25nevertheless we have not used this power, but suffer all
- 10:29things? Thus we should hinder the gospel
- 10:32of Christ. So Paul is saying that they
- 10:35relinquish their right to be supported by the congregation,
- 10:39and that is actually the irony of the situation because the
- 10:43Corinthians thought of them as weaker because of their refusal
- 10:50to demand support from them. What a flipped upside down kind
- 10:58of situation. And that is the way of God.
- 11:01The way up is down, friends, and the least shall be the greatest.
- 11:07The greatest shall be the least. And he's saying here that just
- 11:15because they are preaching the gospel does not mean that they
- 11:19do not have physical needs. And he does not want to hinder
- 11:23the gospel by trying to come to them and cause some kind of riff
- 11:27by demanding financial support. 13 Do you not know that they
- 11:35which minister about holy things live of the things of the
- 11:40temple, and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the
- 11:45altar? So we can see this principle
- 11:48applied all the way back whenever the Israelites were
- 11:51being LED through the wilderness and into the Promised land.
- 11:56And we see the Levites as never inheriting land, but they were
- 12:01to be supported by all of those other tribes as they came into
- 12:07the temple. And here Paul is telling the
- 12:11Corinthians that it is the minister's right to demand to be
- 12:15supported by the congregation. And it is also something that
- 12:20gets abused. And Paul here is trying to bring
- 12:24about a great understanding with discernment friends.
- 12:29And this calls for wisdom. If God leads you to a place that
- 12:34cannot support you and it's going to take away from the
- 12:38congregation for you to be supported by them and it's going
- 12:41to cause everything to fall apart in the church to be
- 12:44shuttered, then you need to be able to be a tent maker on the
- 12:48side. But if you are part of an
- 12:50opulent congregation in a very, very luxurious setting with very
- 12:58affluent people, you need to make sure that your salary is
- 13:03not so inflated that you are disconnected from those who are
- 13:08level with the gravel friends. 14 Even so has the Lord ordained
- 13:18that they which preach the gospel should live of the
- 13:21gospel? 15 But I have used none of these
- 13:24things, neither have I written these things, that it should be
- 13:27so done unto me. For if it for it were better for
- 13:32me to die, then that any man should make my glorying void.
- 13:40It's the glory of God that Paul is after to live his Christ, to
- 13:45die his gain. And that's what he is
- 13:47referencing here is he would rather die and to try to steal
- 13:51God's glory. And God will share his glory
- 13:55with no one. And Paul is wanting these
- 13:58Corinthians to know that he's not doing what he's doing for
- 14:01money and he is not in love with mammon.
- 14:04And he would rather die and go on to be with the Lord than to
- 14:08be accused of being in love with this world. 16 For though I
- 14:17preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of, for
- 14:21necessity is laid upon me. Yeah, woe is unto me if I preach
- 14:27not the gospel. Like Jeremiah, Paul had a fire
- 14:31that was burning, and he could not shut it up.
- 14:34He could not contain it. Every time he tried to keep his
- 14:38mouth shut, he could not. God had lit a fire in them, and
- 14:43I pray that fire has been lit in this whole world on every
- 14:47continent at this time. Right now, friends, I pray that
- 14:52we go out into the harvest. I pray that the workers are many
- 14:56Right now, friends, I pray for a global revival.
- 14:59Right now, friends, I pray for repentance.
- 15:04I pray for confession. I pray that God is glorified in
- 15:13the highest by your life. Woe is unto me if I do not
- 15:29preach this gospel. 17 For I do this thing willingly.
- 15:35For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward.
- 15:39But if against my will a dispensation of the gospel is
- 15:44committed unto me, so he's saying here that he is pressing
- 15:49forward, and he knows that our rewards are with him.
- 15:53And he's coming on the clouds, friends, And he knows that his
- 15:58mark that is on his life, that's been placed on him, is to preach
- 16:02the gospel and to bring the whole word to the whole world.
- 16:0718 What is my reward then, truly, that when I preach the
- 16:13gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge?
- 16:19That I abuse not my power in the gospel?
- 16:23That was Paul's heart, and that should be our heart.
- 16:29The gospel is not-for-profit. Friends, freely you have
- 16:36received, and so freely you shall give.
- 16:41God is not for sale and that is what we learned with Bar Jesus
- 16:52whenever he was trying to get Peter to sell him the Holy
- 16:58Spirit. And what did Peter say?
- 17:03He said to hell with you and your money.
- 17:08This gospel is not for sale. It is a free gift that has been
- 17:14given to anyone who shall take it. 19 For though I be free from
- 17:19all men, yet have I made myself servant to all that I might
- 17:24gain. The more so.
- 17:26This is what you need to understand.
- 17:28As Paul understood that he was a free man, but he was a
- 17:33bondservant to Christ. He had released this fear of
- 17:41man. He cared nothing for this life.
- 17:45He knew that if he was alive it was to preach Christ and Christ
- 17:50crucified, and that if he was to die, it would be nothing but
- 17:55rewards and gain. 20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that
- 18:03I might gain the Jews, and to them that are under the law is
- 18:06under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law. 21
- 18:12To them that are without the law is without law, being not
- 18:16without law to God, but under the law to Christ, that I might
- 18:20gain them that are without law. 22 To the weak I became as weak
- 18:27that I might gain the weak. I am made all things to all men,
- 18:33that I might by all means save some.
- 18:38This is what you need to understand about what Paul has
- 18:41written here in this little section is that Jesus Christ was
- 18:47never worried about being around sinners, but he never condoned
- 18:53the sin. Jesus was just as comfortable
- 18:58around tax collectors and prostitutes, and he actually had
- 19:05the harshest things to say towards the religious folk, but
- 19:11he never condoned their sinful life.
- 19:15He said go and sin no more unless something worse comes
- 19:20upon you. And here Paul is not
- 19:24compromising in his faith, but what he is doing is getting
- 19:28level with the gravel. What he is doing is making sure
- 19:32that he does not present himself in a way that is unapproachable,
- 19:39whether if it is in rags where he cannot reach the suit and
- 19:43ties or whether it is in suit and ties where he cannot reach
- 19:47the rags. Friends, Paul understood this
- 19:53balanced life so that he can reach as many as possible, and
- 19:58we would do well to adopt this principle.
- 20:02Friends 23. And this I do for the gospel
- 20:11sake, that I might be partaker there of with you.
- 20:15That is Paul's heart. He wants as many as possible to
- 20:19come in to the banquet, this marriage feast, friends.
- 20:27He wants as many as possible. He wants heaven to be full, and
- 20:32God knows the complete number who are coming in.
- 20:37He's the alpha and the Omega. He's the beginning and the end,
- 20:40and we are already seated with him in heavenly places, friends,
- 20:46and he knows who belongs to him, and he is unwilling that any
- 20:50should perish. 24 Know you not that they which run in a race
- 20:59run All but one receives the prize?
- 21:02So run that you may obtain. 25 And every man that strives for
- 21:09the mastery is temperate in all things.
- 21:13Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown.
- 21:16But we, an incorruptible part of our rewards is receiving the
- 21:21crown that is given to us, that we throw at the Lord's feet.
- 21:26We care nothing for the rewards, we only want him and him alone,
- 21:32and he keeps placing that crown back on our head and we keep
- 21:35throwing it at his feet because he is worthy.
- 21:38There was only one found worthy to open the scroll. 26 I
- 21:46therefore so run, not as uncertainly, so fight I not as
- 21:55one that beats the air. 27 But I keep under my body and bring it
- 22:02into subjection, unless that by any means, when I have preached
- 22:06to others, I myself should be castaway.
- 22:12He will never cast you away when you come to him honestly.
- 22:20He will never cast you away whenever you come to him
- 22:22wholeheartedly. He will never cast you away,
- 22:26friends. And what Paul is referencing
- 22:28here in this one little section is how many ministers of faith,
- 22:35how many pastors and preachers have been found out in all of
- 22:40their disgusting practices that they thought were hidden.
- 22:46And God's whole plan is to bring the hidden things out, good or
- 22:50bad, And He will, in do time, reveal the secrets of men, good
- 22:58or bad, The things that you didn't think anybody saw that
- 23:02you did for him. He's going to reveal.
- 23:05The things that you didn't think anybody saw, that were
- 23:09disgusting and despicable, He's going to bring into the light.
- 23:13And how many ministries have been upended and how many
- 23:17people's salvation has been questioned because of the
- 23:22pastor's negligence? And Paul is referencing here
- 23:26that we need to practice integrity all the way to the
- 23:29end. And it's easier to start a race
- 23:32than it is to finish it, friends.
- 23:35And we need grace and we need God's power to help us finish
- 23:40this race well and to wait well. And the greatest work that is
- 23:44getting done is in the waiting. Don't forget it, lock in for
- 23:51today. Today has enough worries in
- 23:54itself. Do not worry about tomorrow.
- 23:57Friends who by worrying can add a single cubit to their stature,
- 24:02single moment to their life. You cannot by worrying, friends.
- 24:07We lock in for today. We enjoy this day and we thank
- 24:13God for this day. We run the race for this day,
- 24:17and if we get tomorrow, try again.
- 24:21His mercies are new every day and your life is but a vapor.
- 24:25It's here today and it's gone tomorrow.
- 24:28Spend more time praying. Friends, I hope you've been
- 24:36blessed by this amazing chapter here in God's Word.
- 24:42I love you, so does God. I'm praying for you.
- 24:59I'm praying that today something breaks off of you, praying that
- 25:04you live in freedom. I'm praying that you see
- 25:08yourself the way that he does. I'm praying that you're covered
- 25:12in the blood of Jesus Christ and you'll stand before him.
- 25:15Holy and blessed are you who sins will never be counted
- 25:20against you. We'll see you back here
- 25:27tomorrow. God bless you.
