- 0:26Speaker 1: Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark hater. It's
- 0:29Speaker 1: finals week in our summer school series as we wrap
- 0:32Speaker 1: up Season one of Mistletoe Murders. We will be discussing
- 0:35Speaker 1: episodes five and six. Death of a Humbug Parts one
- 0:39Speaker 1: and two. While you're listening to this episode, hop on
- 0:42Speaker 1: over to Instagram give us a follow. Where we are
- 0:44Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark. Hey, we have a Facebook group we'd
- 0:49Speaker 1: love for you to join. It's Girls Gone Hallmark in
- 0:52Speaker 1: Facebook groups. And let me just say, there is so
- 0:56Speaker 1: much coming out or a lot of things being discussed
- 0:58Speaker 1: about with the holidays. I can't even believe what I'm
- 1:02Speaker 1: seeing holidays. It's at the beginning of August. I know,
- 1:07Speaker 1: I am not ready. Walked into a store the other
- 1:09Speaker 1: day and they had all our Halloween out. I was like, nope, noe,
- 1:13Speaker 1: a't the grocery store. I walked down like the one
- 1:16Speaker 1: of the aisles I had Halloween candyo. No no, no, no, no, no no. Anyway,
- 1:25Speaker 1: but if you're excited for countdown to Christmas twenty twenty five.
- 1:29Speaker 1: They're talking over there, so come join us, Yeah, and
- 1:32Speaker 1: email us your thoughts on anything homemark this series, the
- 1:35Speaker 1: new movies that are currently dropping, Providence Falls is coming up,
- 1:39Speaker 1: the countdown to Christmas announcements email us Girls Gone Homemark
- 1:42Speaker 1: at gmail dot com. We're prepping for an upcoming mail
- 1:44Speaker 1: bag episode. We promise, we promise. August is busy for us,
- 1:51Speaker 1: so the entire sunning is busy. It's just a little
- 1:54Speaker 1: bit of a wacky schedule. It's fine, it's fine. We'll
- 1:58Speaker 1: be like both both feet in the sand? Is that
- 2:02Speaker 1: the same? That's not the same. I'm just saying that
- 2:04Speaker 1: when the countdown to Christmas comes, there's gonna be no
- 2:09Speaker 1: lack of episodes from us, that is correct. Let's here
- 2:12Speaker 1: a synopsis of Death of a Humbug. What the hell
- 2:15Speaker 1: was I talking about two feet in the Sand? I
- 2:18Speaker 1: don't know what that means. Okay, here's the synopsis for
- 2:23Speaker 1: episodes five and six. A murder leads Emily and Sam
- 2:27Speaker 1: to a scavenger hunt orchestrated by the victim. Emily continues
- 2:31Speaker 1: to solve the scavenger hunt and grapples with her past.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Melanie or directed episodes five and six of Missletoone Murders.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Melanie has previously directed on series like Sullivan's Crossing, The
- 2:41Speaker 1: Hardy Boys and Spencer Sisters. Shelley Scarrow wrote the duo
- 2:47Speaker 1: episodes of Mistletoe Murders. Shelley's other writing credits include Sullivan's Crossing,
- 2:52Speaker 1: Wyona Irp, and Degrassi The Next Generation. Tom Kavanaugh joins
- 2:57Speaker 1: the cast as game Master Glenn Shaw. Tom has several
- 3:01Speaker 1: long series runs, including eighty three episodes of ED and
- 3:04Speaker 1: one hundred and forty six episodes of the Flash. For Hallmark,
- 3:07Speaker 1: he starred in Darrow and Darrow Movies. Again. I'm gonna
- 3:11Speaker 1: go that's a Hallmark project. It is, you know, we
- 3:17Speaker 1: nothing just get I know it's one of those it's
- 3:20Speaker 1: like the Rex and Hudson, but I'm pretty sure the thought,
- 3:23Speaker 1: Yeah it is, Kimberly Williams Paisley. I remember opening up
- 3:27Speaker 1: this tab and it has the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries
- 3:29Speaker 1: logo on it, So yes, got it. Well, you know,
- 3:32Speaker 1: we did get another email from a listener of the
- 3:35Speaker 1: show who's begging us to review that that series. Yeah,
- 3:40Speaker 1: I'm not opposed to it, it's just unfortunately not happening
- 3:43Speaker 1: this month. There was even this not even this year. No,
- 3:46Speaker 1: probably honestly, not even this year. That's true. Yeah, there
- 3:49Speaker 1: was some discussions since we cut down our Mistletoe Murders
- 3:52Speaker 1: episodes from six to three, rightfully, so I don't think
- 3:55Speaker 1: anybody argues with that decision that we now had room
- 3:59Speaker 1: for that, and I suppose that's true. But Hayle, we
- 4:03Speaker 1: do actually have a surprise. We had initially said we
- 4:05Speaker 1: weren't doing something, and we are doing it. So just
- 4:06Speaker 1: keep an eye on that schedule. There's something fun coming
- 4:10Speaker 1: to girls go on Homemark. What is it? The Chicken Sisters? Yeah,
- 4:18Speaker 1: I'm not doing it so great for me. I have
- 4:20Speaker 1: a question complete side topic here. When Hallmark drops season
- 4:26Speaker 1: two of Missiletoe Murders, I'm guessing we're going to review
- 4:29Speaker 1: it in real time. Yeah, probably. I mean we haven't
- 4:32Speaker 1: seen like a schedule yet, so we don't. Fully we can't.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I'm just talking through it here. I think it's probably
- 4:40Speaker 1: best to do the two episode if that's the way
- 4:42Speaker 1: they continue like with the parts and parts two, and
- 4:46Speaker 1: we should do them combined, so maybe it will be
- 4:49Speaker 1: like an every other week drop for us. Yeah, perhaps
- 4:55Speaker 1: I'm totally open to continuing doing the two episode system.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I assume we're going to see the Mistletoe Murders schedule
- 5:01Speaker 1: and we see the full count on a Christmas schedule. Yeah,
- 5:05Speaker 1: it's gonna be soon. It's gonna be soon too. I
- 5:07Speaker 1: think Jake Epstein plays Wayward nephew Noah. Jake has been
- 5:12Speaker 1: quite the presence on Hallmark, appearing in the three Unwrapping
- 5:15Speaker 1: Christmas movies and four Hearts Around the Tables movies of late.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Outside of Hallmark, he's had recurring rolls on Suits Designated
- 5:24Speaker 1: Survivor and The Hardy Boys. Let's take a quick break
- 5:27Speaker 1: and come right back with our first impressions of Death
- 5:30Speaker 1: of a Humbug. Hey, Wendy, what was your first impression
- 5:41Speaker 1: of Mistletoe Murders five and six? Well, I hope, I
- 5:46Speaker 1: hope the listeners get this one. I hope you get it.
- 5:49Speaker 1: H Hallmark really gave Tom Cavanaugh the Drew Barrymore treatment
- 5:53Speaker 1: in this one. Oh, I don't know what that means.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Drew Barrymore was in the movie Scream Big Star in
- 6:03Speaker 1: the first like ten minutes of the movie, which was
- 6:05Speaker 1: like unheard of, like unheard of man. Tom Cavanaugh rolls
- 6:11Speaker 1: in makes this makes me at least think he's sticking around,
- 6:15Speaker 1: and then he gets gets the he gets whacked, he
- 6:19Speaker 1: gets whacked. Yeah, you're right. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 6:23Speaker 1: He does stick around in video form. But yeah, but
- 6:27Speaker 1: I thought I thought Tom Cavanaugh was gonna come in. Well,
- 6:31Speaker 1: he's a big name, at least to me, he's a
- 6:34Speaker 1: big name. I think he was gonna come in. I
- 6:36Speaker 1: thought he was gonna be maybe like a love trying,
- 6:39Speaker 1: yeah situation, maybe somebody from her past that she knows
- 6:44Speaker 1: in Chimera. I don't. I don't know, I don't know,
- 6:49Speaker 1: but uh, he wasn't. So yeah, what's your first impression?
- 6:53Speaker 1: My first impression is I would just like to say
- 6:55Speaker 1: that I called Harvey as the bad guy before it
- 6:57Speaker 1: was revealed he was the bad guy due to some
- 7:00Speaker 1: hot dog going on my part. What's super sleuthen Wait,
- 7:05Speaker 1: he looked like he didn't he didn't fit in with
- 7:07Speaker 1: the rest of everybody. Uh, I mean, look, it's not
- 7:10Speaker 1: like a big leap to have like this hot dog
- 7:13Speaker 1: vendor come in and be the bad guy. Agreed. However,
- 7:17Speaker 1: in the scene where we see the recording device in
- 7:21Speaker 1: the car, right, they've just had their meeting an Emily's shop,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and we cut to someone is in a car wearing
- 7:28Speaker 1: a black jacket and black gloves and they can is
- 7:31Speaker 1: there a hot dog wrapper on the seat or something.
- 7:33Speaker 1: They can here Emily and Sam talking in the shot.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I rewound back to see what everyone in the scene
- 7:40Speaker 1: was wearing. Now, the shots are real tight, okay, but
- 7:44Speaker 1: as they prep to leave, they do show them go
- 7:47Speaker 1: gather their coats and Harvey is the only one that
- 7:50Speaker 1: we see pick up a black cut. Now, now we
- 7:53Speaker 1: don't get shots of everybody like fully dressed in their
- 7:55Speaker 1: gear like it's a quick shot, but that did lead
- 7:58Speaker 1: me to believe that perhaps it was Harvey. So when
- 8:01Speaker 1: we get to the when he abscondes with the books
- 8:04Speaker 1: and tosses his cane and gets into the black suv,
- 8:07Speaker 1: I truly out loud, was like, I knew it, you
- 8:11Speaker 1: felt good about it. Huh, doesn't happen very often. I
- 8:14Speaker 1: need to celebrate the wins where they come. Let's talk
- 8:18Speaker 1: what we liked about this Maybabe Well, I wanted to
- 8:20Speaker 1: talk about Tom Cavanaugh. Mm hmmm, welcome to Fletcher's Grove.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I loved him as this cranky bookstore owner. I actually
- 8:29Speaker 1: googled how old he was because I'm having those same
- 8:33Speaker 1: feelings as I did watching Mystery one oh one, where
- 8:36Speaker 1: I find myself attracted to the older man. He's in
- 8:40Speaker 1: his sixties. No he is not, swear that's what the
- 8:44Speaker 1: Internet said. Yeah, dang, like he's like ten years older
- 8:49Speaker 1: than me, maybe maybe even fifteen years older than Yeah,
- 8:54Speaker 1: you're not in your fifties. I'm fifty. I think he
- 8:58Speaker 1: said he was sixty four. Maybe, Okay, fourteen years that's
- 9:01Speaker 1: a big wow. Okay that I have guessed. No, although
- 9:07Speaker 1: when I think back to Ed, I don't I don't
- 9:09Speaker 1: remember when that series aired, but many years ago. He
- 9:12Speaker 1: was probably forty in that, so I guess that makes sense.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I just have envisioned him as the same age this
- 9:18Speaker 1: entire time. Yeah, me too, totally. Anyway, I loved him
- 9:22Speaker 1: as Glen Shaw. He had such a small role, but
- 9:26Speaker 1: I love that we got enough of him. We got
- 9:28Speaker 1: to see that he was very smart, he was very witty.
- 9:31Speaker 1: He was kind of a curmudgeon too, Like I just
- 9:33Speaker 1: loved everything about it. Yeah, a small but pivotal role,
- 9:36Speaker 1: important role in this, yeah I'm speaking of I really
- 9:40Speaker 1: liked the Treasure Hunt mystery in this series of episodes.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I like the way they've handled the three murders that
- 9:48Speaker 1: we've gotten, that they've made them ever so slightly different
- 9:52Speaker 1: in the way that they're presented to us, because we're
- 9:55Speaker 1: dealing with a series of back to back episodes that
- 10:00Speaker 1: aired episodically. They aired weekly, and so a little bit
- 10:04Speaker 1: different than a franchise of movies which come out, you know,
- 10:08Speaker 1: every several months, maybe once a year. When you've got
- 10:11Speaker 1: week to week to week, and if you're having murders
- 10:14Speaker 1: happen every single week, well it does stretch the limits
- 10:19Speaker 1: of believability. And so I think they did a nice
- 10:21Speaker 1: job of giving us a variety of murders. We kind
- 10:24Speaker 1: of had Clara, which was like a variety of murders.
- 10:29Speaker 1: We had like, you know, the classic like potentially poisoned murder,
- 10:35Speaker 1: and then Clara's was almost like a little bit of
- 10:37Speaker 1: a cold case murder that we were dealing with. And
- 10:40Speaker 1: then this one, Yes it was a murder, but it
- 10:43Speaker 1: had some additional intrigue added with the treasure hunt, which
- 10:48Speaker 1: I think was a fun way to deal with apprehending
- 10:53Speaker 1: the murder to catch a killer. With that said, though,
- 10:57Speaker 1: I this topic falls into my wishes said, you want
- 11:02Speaker 1: me to wait to circle back to it, but it's
- 11:04Speaker 1: up to you. But yeah, we can wait. I can
- 11:05Speaker 1: shut up about it. No, No, you don't need to
- 11:08Speaker 1: shut up about it, like I I think I think
- 11:11Speaker 1: you're right, like, but I just wanted to like talk
- 11:13Speaker 1: through it. Back to Scavenger Hunt. I did really enjoy
- 11:17Speaker 1: that it wasn't like as like hokey as it could
- 11:21Speaker 1: have been. I think it was very interesting and I'm like,
- 11:24Speaker 1: why is Emily the smartest one in the room here?
- 11:26Speaker 1: Like even the detective couldn't figure out some of these clues.
- 11:31Speaker 1: But I loved it. What else did you like the
- 11:35Speaker 1: cemetary showdown between Emily and the hot dog Eye Yes,
- 11:38Speaker 1: ma'am okay unexpected mm hmm for Hallmark, I thought I
- 11:44Speaker 1: thought it felt elevated. I do have some wishes about it,
- 11:48Speaker 1: but I did like this confrontation. It was tense, there
- 11:52Speaker 1: were like steaks, it was she chokes him out. I
- 11:59Speaker 1: love that part of it, but I do have some
- 12:01Speaker 1: criticism about it too, though I'm gonna get too well.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I really loved my notes say. I loved watching Emily
- 12:07Speaker 1: kick Harvey's ass, and I know he has a different
- 12:10Speaker 1: name whatever He's harvey through most of the movie. To me,
- 12:13Speaker 1: I really like that scene, and I think why it
- 12:16Speaker 1: was important is this series of episodes is mostly a
- 12:20Speaker 1: softer side of Emily. Like the first series, we kind
- 12:23Speaker 1: of get introduced to Emily as a battie. We see
- 12:26Speaker 1: the whole Kaimer nonsense and the second duo. We don't
- 12:30Speaker 1: see a lot of her backstory here, and we even
- 12:32Speaker 1: see her saying like maybe it's time to like move
- 12:34Speaker 1: on from all of this. But then she kicks his
- 12:36Speaker 1: ass and we get reminded like, no, no, what's that,
- 12:39Speaker 1: I'm a bitch with a backstory? Oh? Is that? I
- 12:42Speaker 1: don't know? It's not. I'm not just a bitch. I'm
- 12:45Speaker 1: a bitch with a backstory. I'm into it. Oh do
- 12:48Speaker 1: I need to make a new edit with that sound? Though?
- 12:51Speaker 1: I mean, I really don't know what the origin. I've
- 12:53Speaker 1: heard it on TikTok. I'll try and figure it out anyway,
- 12:56Speaker 1: That's what it was giving. If I can figure out
- 12:59Speaker 1: the backstory to that TikTok sound that I've heard a
- 13:01Speaker 1: hundred times, I will drop it in the show notes.
- 13:05Speaker 1: So those are interesting thoughts and I have a reaction
- 13:10Speaker 1: to them. But it also is in my wishes. Okay,
- 13:13Speaker 1: I have a gun there, yes, so do I let
- 13:16Speaker 1: me hear yours? Well. I really like that Sam isn't
- 13:18Speaker 1: being coy. Sam is clearly trying to move things forward
- 13:23Speaker 1: with Emily. He offers to break her food, he tries
- 13:25Speaker 1: to hang out with her, like, he's very clearly making
- 13:28Speaker 1: himself available to her. They're not pretending. He's not pretending
- 13:31Speaker 1: like he doesn't like her. He's not pretending like there's
- 13:33Speaker 1: not something there. He's trying to move the relationship forward.
- 13:35Speaker 1: She's pushing back because again she's got a backstory, she
- 13:39Speaker 1: got secrets. She does. But I really liked that we're
- 13:45Speaker 1: not playing games here, which leads into my final like
- 13:48Speaker 1: which maybe you were final like that cliffhanger, Oh my gosh. Well,
- 13:53Speaker 1: first of all, before the cliffhanger, the kiss the kids
- 13:56Speaker 1: so freaking hot, so hot, grabbing the waist. I was like,
- 13:59Speaker 1: that's choice that I think more Hallmark actors need to
- 14:02Speaker 1: be making, because it's very appropriate for Hallmark, but real hot.
- 14:08Speaker 1: M going back for the second kiss also hot. Yeah, man,
- 14:15Speaker 1: I feel like the cliffhanger was so good. I mean,
- 14:19Speaker 1: it definitely left me wanting more. He says, this is
- 14:23Speaker 1: I want to hear. I want to let me know
- 14:26Speaker 1: what you thought. He says, he gets well, he gets
- 14:28Speaker 1: that phone call while she's changing right out of her
- 14:31Speaker 1: g MS because she wants to go win the snow,
- 14:33Speaker 1: which I just love so much. But he says on
- 14:36Speaker 1: his phone call that that he was told that his
- 14:41Speaker 1: chief or whoever called him told him that they received
- 14:45Speaker 1: a call to stop the inquiries about Emily Lane, Like
- 14:50Speaker 1: did we just gloss right over that? Who's calling? Who's
- 14:55Speaker 1: from above calling saying like stop asking questions? I think
- 14:59Speaker 1: that that's all part of the cliffhanger. Mistress, God's so good.
- 15:03Speaker 1: It's so good. It is so good it is, And
- 15:07Speaker 1: the suspense was built because when she leaves to go
- 15:09Speaker 1: upstairs to change, you know something's going to happen. I
- 15:12Speaker 1: thought it was going to be something more sinister, like
- 15:15Speaker 1: Kaimera was going to show back, because we got at
- 15:17Speaker 1: the end of episodes three and four, I'm watching you,
- 15:21Speaker 1: and I thought maybe shed we were going to see
- 15:22Speaker 1: her get like kidnapped or swept away or wax yeah,
- 15:26Speaker 1: you know, over the head. But this is quieter, and
- 15:31Speaker 1: I loved it because poor Sam, he was all in
- 15:34Speaker 1: and then he realizes that she's been lying to him.
- 15:37Speaker 1: And I think the part that got me the most
- 15:41Speaker 1: is I was thinking Sam would have accepted the truth
- 15:44Speaker 1: about who she is if she had given it to him. Yeah,
- 15:48Speaker 1: but she is not in a place right, I know.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I get that, Like, she doesn't feel safe, she doesn't
- 15:54Speaker 1: know him well enough to feel safe, And even us
- 15:56Speaker 1: as viewers, we don't know the backstory, So how can
- 15:59Speaker 1: we determine that she should tell Sam? You know, we
- 16:03Speaker 1: don't know how bad it is. I know, and I'm
- 16:06Speaker 1: sitting here and I one hundred percent agree we don't
- 16:08Speaker 1: know how bad it is. I'm just making assumptions that
- 16:10Speaker 1: it was not rooted in badness that made the exception.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Her deception or her actions, while perhaps destructive or perhaps
- 16:20Speaker 1: criminal in intent, were of the like good guy criminal sort. Sure,
- 16:26Speaker 1: I've just decided that she can't be an actual bad guy,
- 16:29Speaker 1: like she's just I love her too much. Oh interesting, Okay,
- 16:33Speaker 1: she's not. Maybe she's made some bad choices, but some
- 16:38Speaker 1: chimraa did something to her parents and it was more
- 16:41Speaker 1: than just a car accident. Yeah, there's a lot to
- 16:44Speaker 1: unpack here. So perhaps a vigilante justice situation. I don't know,
- 16:48Speaker 1: But look, I want to talk about the cliffhanger more
- 16:51Speaker 1: in our wishes? Do you have any more likes? No,
- 16:54Speaker 1: that's it. Well, I know you have a lot of wishes.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I have a few. Okay, I want to go back
- 16:59Speaker 1: to the dicussion about time frame. Oh yeah, in our
- 17:03Speaker 1: last episode you were asking, like, what's the time frame here? Like,
- 17:06Speaker 1: we're obviously a couple weeks out from Christmas and these
- 17:09Speaker 1: particular episodes we get to Christmas. Here here's my problem.
- 17:14Speaker 1: There is a lot of death happening, Yes, a variety
- 17:17Speaker 1: of murders, but a lot of death happening in a
- 17:20Speaker 1: short period of time in a very small town like that,
- 17:25Speaker 1: to me starts to feel a little bit unbelievable. Sure,
- 17:29Speaker 1: and it's very similar to the Hallmark mystery movies we watch, right,
- 17:34Speaker 1: we have we to buy in on, like, oh, these
- 17:37Speaker 1: things happen to this baker or this caterer or whatever,
- 17:42Speaker 1: over and over and over again. But because it comes
- 17:46Speaker 1: in movie form, like you said, with a big span
- 17:49Speaker 1: of time in between, it makes it feel like, oh, yeah,
- 17:53Speaker 1: these things could happen in real life, but here inflectors grow.
- 17:56Speaker 1: We're talking six weeks. Maybe yeah, would you have liked
- 18:01Speaker 1: to see the town be like like someone acknowledging even
- 18:05Speaker 1: Sue jokingly, like a lot of people seem to be
- 18:07Speaker 1: dying around here lately, Like tis why he's in for murder?
- 18:11Speaker 1: What the heck is happening here in our small town? Though?
- 18:14Speaker 1: Was never like a problem before? Yes, maybe something? But
- 18:19Speaker 1: then I was thinking, Okay, how are they gonna handle
- 18:22Speaker 1: this in season two? Like is it going to be
- 18:24Speaker 1: the same? Are we going to get another six episodes
- 18:26Speaker 1: and there's going to be three murders or whatever? Right?
- 18:30Speaker 1: Like are we going to get a murder in each
- 18:33Speaker 1: set of stories? And I'm like that feels a little
- 18:36Speaker 1: too far fetched now, like what is happening? Maybe we
- 18:39Speaker 1: won't get that at all? Maybe it's gonna go completely
- 18:42Speaker 1: different way. Maybe we get more backstory on Emily and
- 18:44Speaker 1: we don't who knows, right, I don't know. Then though,
- 18:47Speaker 1: I was thinking about other weekly mysteries and the only
- 18:53Speaker 1: one that can come that comes to mind because I
- 18:56Speaker 1: was on Hallmarks schedule recently, is murder. She wrote, yes,
- 19:01Speaker 1: which this series was inspired by. If you watch the
- 19:04Speaker 1: two and a half minute making of Mistletoe Murders that
- 19:07Speaker 1: came on after this on Hallmark. Plus, I have not,
- 19:10Speaker 1: and I actually was wondering if Fletcher's Grove is inspired
- 19:14Speaker 1: by Jessica Fletcher. I wasn't watching close enough to hear
- 19:16Speaker 1: if they said that, but that I may not have
- 19:19Speaker 1: come up with that on my own. That feels real
- 19:21Speaker 1: cute if it is. I think so too. That's a
- 19:25Speaker 1: show I've never watched. And maybe listeners can weigh in here.
- 19:28Speaker 1: But that was a weekly episode. Was she solving a
- 19:32Speaker 1: murder every week? I think so? And I think that's
- 19:34Speaker 1: why the joke now is like we need the reveal
- 19:37Speaker 1: that Jessica Fletcher was actually a serial killer. It's like,
- 19:41Speaker 1: how do all of these murders happen in Cabot Cove?
- 19:43Speaker 1: Where she's solving all these murders? Do I want to
- 19:47Speaker 1: watch that show? Maybe, like as a throw on? You know, yeah,
- 19:53Speaker 1: I enjoy a throw on show like as I'm getting
- 19:56Speaker 1: ready or whatever, So maybe I might. My second wish
- 20:01Speaker 1: is and this is also something you've talked about earlier
- 20:05Speaker 1: in this episode. Episodes one and two were so front
- 20:08Speaker 1: heavy on Emily having this mysterious background yep, and then
- 20:13Speaker 1: it kind of like you said, then we get like
- 20:16Speaker 1: the whole chimera thing in episodes three and four, but
- 20:19Speaker 1: then episodes five and six it kind of peters out,
- 20:22Speaker 1: like we start to forget that Emily has this potentially
- 20:27Speaker 1: sinister background, and then like boom bam, that cliffhanger happens,
- 20:33Speaker 1: and then it comes back to the forefront that she
- 20:35Speaker 1: is who she's not. And I was wondering as I
- 20:39Speaker 1: was like writing this, because Emily's background, her story is
- 20:44Speaker 1: what is most interesting to me as a viewer of
- 20:47Speaker 1: this series, and I was like, oh, no, we're missing that,
- 20:52Speaker 1: Like now we're just falling into regular Hallmark mystery fair
- 20:58Speaker 1: a little bit I was thinking and or worried about.
- 21:04Speaker 1: But then I thought, oh, is this intentional? Is Emily's
- 21:08Speaker 1: background not in the forefront of our minds anymore? Because
- 21:12Speaker 1: now it's almost like we get to relax and forget
- 21:15Speaker 1: that she has this background. Similar to Emily now like
- 21:18Speaker 1: assimilating into this new town and she feels maybe kind
- 21:24Speaker 1: of safer, right, and she's trying to forget her background
- 21:28Speaker 1: as well. And then whammo. I think that's a great
- 21:32Speaker 1: point because as you were saying that is it intentional?
- 21:35Speaker 1: I think I think the cliffhanger hits more if we
- 21:41Speaker 1: have started to forget that if we're more in on
- 21:44Speaker 1: the Emily Sam of it all, and we get hit
- 21:49Speaker 1: by the realization almost at the same time that he
- 21:51Speaker 1: does exactly. So maybe it was pretty masterful. Maybe maybe
- 22:00Speaker 1: one last wish and then we will talk about your wishes.
- 22:03Speaker 1: It goes back to the cemetery fight between the hot
- 22:04Speaker 1: dog guy. Yeah, and you said earlier, You're like, you've
- 22:09Speaker 1: convinced yourself that Emily may have done bad things, but
- 22:13Speaker 1: she was a bad good guy. Yeah right, Yeah, that's right.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I have convinced myself that she is like Sidney Bristow
- 22:21Speaker 1: from ALIAS, oh Cia Cia trained like this. You know,
- 22:27Speaker 1: she's done bad things, but but she's good for the
- 22:30Speaker 1: greater She's for the greater good. Right. So then, in
- 22:34Speaker 1: having this thought in my mind, when they have this
- 22:37Speaker 1: fight in the cemetery, I was hoping for like a
- 22:42Speaker 1: swift ass kicking and it was a little bit hard
- 22:47Speaker 1: to like watch, I don't know, because I am low.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I'm comparing Jennifer Garner at peak ALIAS, when she was
- 22:57Speaker 1: like do you remember any of this stuff? Like they
- 22:59Speaker 1: would show her like in videos or like in US
- 23:03Speaker 1: weekly of her training while she was in this role.
- 23:09Speaker 1: She was like so buff. But no, anyway, she was
- 23:13Speaker 1: like in peak physical condition. And then I remember, like
- 23:17Speaker 1: I remember them talking that she had a body double
- 23:20Speaker 1: for all the fight scenes. Oh yeah, wait a minute,
- 23:23Speaker 1: was there a body Was there a body double in
- 23:25Speaker 1: this last scene? Okay, I think there was? Well, can
- 23:28Speaker 1: you go with me here for a second. Sure you
- 23:30Speaker 1: were talking about Sidney Bristow kicking ass. We are also
- 23:34Speaker 1: currently watching Providence Falls, and when I was prepping notes,
- 23:38Speaker 1: the IMDb for Providence Falls sucks. So I went to
- 23:41Speaker 1: the credits and was watching the credits to pull some names,
- 23:44Speaker 1: and at the end of the credits it's like chorus
- 23:47Speaker 1: stunt person, Liam stunt person right. So then I was like,
- 23:50Speaker 1: wait a minute, do we have a stunt person for Emily?
- 23:54Speaker 1: And I am pulling up IMDb right now? Okay, e
- 23:59Speaker 1: nova Za's mean stunt double for Sarah Drew appears in
- 24:04Speaker 1: show episodes episode two, Poison and a Peartree. You can
- 24:07Speaker 1: imagine exactly what scene that is. She has the loft fight. Yeah,
- 24:13Speaker 1: oh that was so good. And season one, episode six
- 24:18Speaker 1: when she kicks the hot guy guy hot dog Guy's ass. Yeah, yes, well, okay,
- 24:25Speaker 1: it felt like I was watching me fight somebody was
- 24:28Speaker 1: just such a joke, like I just wanted it to be.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Like I don't know the background of Emily, but like
- 24:36Speaker 1: I said, in my mind, she's this like CIA trained,
- 24:40Speaker 1: Like it would have been a better fight. This just
- 24:45Speaker 1: seemed like it was like a just a regular fight.
- 24:48Speaker 1: That is interesting that you see her as like professionally trained,
- 24:52Speaker 1: like you think she was like working with somebody, because
- 24:55Speaker 1: I think she's just like this independent agent who was
- 24:59Speaker 1: out to write the wrongs of her past, like self taught.
- 25:03Speaker 1: We shall see hopefully in season two, which brings me
- 25:08Speaker 1: to my singular wish about this episode. I actually fully
- 25:11Speaker 1: agree with all your wishes here, but really the only
- 25:15Speaker 1: thing that sticks out to me is I was reading
- 25:18Speaker 1: the reviews of this series and so many people were
- 25:21Speaker 1: upset about the cliffhanger. Yeah, so interesting, because I was like,
- 25:24Speaker 1: that's great, right, And then they were like, now we
- 25:27Speaker 1: have to wait a year to find out what happens.
- 25:29Speaker 1: And obviously we have waited several months to watch this,
- 25:31Speaker 1: so we don't have to wait a year. But that's
- 25:34Speaker 1: every television show ever now, like we live in an
- 25:36Speaker 1: era of we drop eight to ten episodes and that's
- 25:40Speaker 1: your season, and you don't get another season for a year,
- 25:42Speaker 1: maybe a year and a half. So that is just
- 25:45Speaker 1: the era of television these days. It's not like twenty
- 25:49Speaker 1: two episodes ends in May, starts in September. You just
- 25:52Speaker 1: have to wait for the summer. I loved the cliffhanger.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Oh so did I. Yeah, so that was my question, like,
- 25:59Speaker 1: do you even care about the cliffhanger knowing you'd have
- 26:01Speaker 1: to wait a year to find out what happened? No, No,
- 26:04Speaker 1: because there's so much other stuff to watch. It's compelling,
- 26:08Speaker 1: it brings you back. Yeah, yes, I mean that's what
- 26:11Speaker 1: you want. I mean I could see the Hallmark viewers
- 26:15Speaker 1: maybe being a little gun shy where they are left
- 26:19Speaker 1: with a cliffhanger and then it doesn't get renewed. Yeah.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Great point. And at the airing of this season, I
- 26:26Speaker 1: don't think we had a renewal date or information. So yes,
- 26:30Speaker 1: that would bother me if I didn't know that there
- 26:32Speaker 1: was going to be resolution. But now that we're in
- 26:35Speaker 1: a great position, we know it's coming, we know there's
- 26:37Speaker 1: going to be some sort of follow up on this,
- 26:40Speaker 1: whether it's satisfactory or not. I thought the episode go ahead,
- 26:44Speaker 1: I was gonna say, and the fans too, because those
- 26:46Speaker 1: who did not have Hallmark Plus who are waiting for
- 26:49Speaker 1: this to drop a Uremark. They're gonna get back to
- 26:53Speaker 1: back season. So yeah, it's gonna be awesome. I only
- 26:57Speaker 1: have one. Did you see that? Okay, let me hear it. Well,
- 27:02Speaker 1: Hallmark deals with a very tricky subject in this episode,
- 27:06Speaker 1: and that is the right to die. They do not
- 27:09Speaker 1: use that. I don't know if assisted suicide is a
- 27:13Speaker 1: phrase that is commonly accepted anymore. They gloss right over it,
- 27:18Speaker 1: Like as soon as we find out that he has
- 27:21Speaker 1: booked a ticket to Switzerland, I was like, oh, you know,
- 27:23Speaker 1: we knew we had Huntington's I knew what was happening.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Their end of life care is what they call it.
- 27:29Speaker 1: But they think I think it's a big deal to
- 27:32Speaker 1: discuss it. They handle it kind of nicely, but they
- 27:38Speaker 1: do it in a way that if you didn't really
- 27:40Speaker 1: know what they were talking about, it might just flow
- 27:43Speaker 1: right over your head. Yes, I agree with you. I
- 27:49Speaker 1: thought that was handled nicely. I did. I don't have
- 27:54Speaker 1: any digite. That's the only thing that I want to
- 27:56Speaker 1: shout out is that I love the character of Sue
- 28:00Speaker 1: Me too. She's I don't know what it is. I
- 28:04Speaker 1: feel like I'm Sue, Like that would be me. She's
- 28:08Speaker 1: a little bit like got a chip on her shoulder,
- 28:11Speaker 1: but like, isn't nice as well? I yeah, I don't know.
- 28:16Speaker 1: I love Sue. She says about Sam dying and her
- 28:20Speaker 1: diner that man would do anything out of spite. Just yeah,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. She's great. I do
- 28:28Speaker 1: hope we get a little more Sue involvement in season two,
- 28:31Speaker 1: but maybe she'll just continue to run in the background
- 28:33Speaker 1: and just be like our snarky diner owner. I feel
- 28:35Speaker 1: like at some point she's gotta be more heavily involved. Yeah,
- 28:39Speaker 1: she's She's like Brooke too. I really like Brooke as
- 28:42Speaker 1: well as just these characters like operating in the background
- 28:47Speaker 1: like they're great? Is Sue the female Luke Dane's ooh
- 28:52Speaker 1: nice poll? Yeah, a little bit little grumpy diner owner,
- 28:56Speaker 1: but everybody loves her? Yeah? I love that? All right?
- 29:00Speaker 1: Are you ready to read this one? Sure? Tell me
- 29:02Speaker 1: what you rated it. I gave it five stars. Wow,
- 29:05Speaker 1: I gave it four point seventy five stars. Not that
- 29:07Speaker 1: I didn't love it, don't come for me. Well, thank
- 29:10Speaker 1: you for listening to this episode of Girls Gone Homework
