- 0:18Speaker 1: Good morning. Thank you for joining us this morning on
- 0:20Speaker 1: our Friday, Front Porch Friday edition of Morning Moments with Jesus.
- 0:24Speaker 1: So glad you could be with us this morning as
- 0:27Speaker 1: we get ready for our devotion time. You know, this
- 0:29Speaker 1: past week has been kind of a busy week and
- 0:32Speaker 1: we've covered some subjects that are pretty deep and pulling
- 0:37Speaker 1: us into our walk with the Lord and God's view
- 0:41Speaker 1: and expectations that we've had. We've just really had a
- 0:44Speaker 1: good outpouring of comments on those as well, so I
- 0:46Speaker 1: do appreciate that. But this morning I thought we'd just
- 0:49Speaker 1: pull up a chair and just have a good time
- 0:51Speaker 1: in the Lord with His Word and just kind of
- 0:54Speaker 1: walk down some memory lanes with a devotion this morning
- 0:58Speaker 1: that's entitled butterflies and bluebirds the word of god comes
- 1:02Speaker 1: to us out of psalm 104 and verse 24 it
- 1:06Speaker 1: simply says oh lord how manifold are thy works in
- 1:11Speaker 1: wisdom hast thou made them all the earth is full
- 1:17Speaker 1: of thy riches and i read that this morning my
- 1:20Speaker 1: thought immediately goes to my grandchildren because they have a
- 1:23Speaker 1: way of slowing me down which is good, really good.
- 1:28Speaker 1: We can be outside with no particular plan at all,
- 1:31Speaker 1: and all of a sudden a butterfly becomes the most
- 1:34Speaker 1: important thing in the world to them. And they follow
- 1:37Speaker 1: it through the yard, watching where it lands and hoping
- 1:40Speaker 1: for a chance to catch it. And oftentimes they do,
- 1:43Speaker 1: especially Marshall. He has a way of going about catching
- 1:47Speaker 1: those things. And when they get close enough to gently
- 1:50Speaker 1: touch a bluebird, they've done that before, They are filled
- 1:54Speaker 1: with wonder and excitement in doing that. And for a
- 1:58Speaker 1: few moments, it seems like nothing else seems to matter.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I personally, and I know maybe you have as well,
- 2:06Speaker 1: spent a good part of my life looking for God's
- 2:08Speaker 1: direction in big decisions or important moments that come in
- 2:13Speaker 1: and out of my life. But my grandchildren, they keep
- 2:16Speaker 1: teaching me something. They teach me that God is also
- 2:20Speaker 1: present in the ordinary things. I might walk right past
- 2:25Speaker 1: if I'm not careful. They do not need a spectacular
- 2:29Speaker 1: view to be amazed. A butterfly will do. A little
- 2:33Speaker 1: bluebird that Marshall was able to touch last year was
- 2:38Speaker 1: more than enough to satisfy that moment. In their view
- 2:42Speaker 1: of life, it invites me to stop, to look closer
- 2:47Speaker 1: at what God has created. And to remember who made
- 2:52Speaker 1: the world in the first place. For all of us
- 2:55Speaker 1: to enjoy. The psalmist here looked at creation. And he
- 3:00Speaker 1: saw what? He saw the wisdom of God everywhere. And
- 3:06Speaker 1: he did not say the earth was full of God's riches.
- 3:11Speaker 1: He said the earth is full of God's riches. That means.
- 3:17Speaker 1: There are reminders of God's love and protection all around
- 3:21Speaker 1: you today, even on the day that feels very ordinary or,
- 3:26Speaker 1: as we talked about yesterday, feels rushed. Sometimes I think
- 3:32Speaker 1: we miss those reminders because we're moving too fast. We're
- 3:36Speaker 1: moving too quickly. Our minds are already on the next responsibility,
- 3:41Speaker 1: the next problem, the next place we need to be.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Maybe as soon as this devotion is over and you
- 3:48Speaker 1: click stop, you're already off to the next thing. I
- 3:51Speaker 1: get that. But meanwhile, a child is calling us over
- 3:55Speaker 1: to see something small and beautiful right where we are. See,
- 4:00Speaker 1: to them, heaven speaks in colors. And if only we
- 4:04Speaker 1: could see what they see, what a wonderful, wonderful world
- 4:08Speaker 1: we would be in. Yeah, I'm grateful for the lessons
- 4:11Speaker 1: that I learned through life. I'm grateful for the lessons
- 4:14Speaker 1: that God teaches me. But He teaches me a lot
- 4:17Speaker 1: through the people in my life, especially here lately, my
- 4:22Speaker 1: grandchildren that we spend a lot of time with. They
- 4:25Speaker 1: remind me that wonder is something that we can all
- 4:29Speaker 1: have every single day. We can pause long enough to
- 4:33Speaker 1: notice a butterfly. We can share their excitement over a bluebird.
- 4:38Speaker 1: We can thank God for a moment together that might
- 4:40Speaker 1: otherwise have passed unnoticed and definitely will never come again.
- 4:46Speaker 1: So perhaps today, you do not need to go looking
- 4:50Speaker 1: for some profound experience. Just spend a little time with
- 4:54Speaker 1: the people you love. Step outside. Pay attention to what
- 4:58Speaker 1: makes you smile. Take a deep breath, and as you
- 5:02Speaker 1: let it out, I want you to think about this.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Sometimes our children and our grandchildren help us see what's
- 5:11Speaker 1: been right in front of us all along. As Marshall
- 5:15Speaker 1: starts school this year, I find myself thinking about those
- 5:18Speaker 1: little moments of wonder that we've shared. Not just Marshall,
- 5:22Speaker 1: but Caroline as well, just over the years we've shared together.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I wrote this song earlier this year to kind of
- 5:29Speaker 1: tell about those little moments. It's going to be on
- 5:33Speaker 1: the upcoming album that will be entitled Somewhere Out There,
- 5:36Speaker 1: but this particular song is called Butterflies and Bluebirds. And
- 5:40Speaker 1: so I hope you enjoy it today. Be safe, be strong.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Be blessed. Have a great weekend. And Lord's will, we'll
- 5:49Speaker 1: get back together again on Monday. Have a great day.
- 6:22Speaker 1: In the fields where.
- 6:23Speaker 2: The daylight sings, a little boy runs without stretched wings.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Chasing colors painted in the sky, where butterflies whisper and
- 6:33Speaker 2: bluebirds fly. Every flower holds a secret tune, every shadow
- 6:39Speaker 2: dances with the wind. Through his eyes the world seems wide,
- 6:44Speaker 2: a canvas brushed with joy from the inside.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Butterflies and bluebirds.
