- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network. Hey,
- 0:03Speaker 1: by the science guy here whatever. I am listening to
- 0:07Speaker 1: the radio, especially tech talk radio. It's such a potty
- 0:13Speaker 1: and welcome to another episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm
- 0:16Speaker 1: Andy Taylor, I'm Seon de Weird.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Then I'm Slick.
- 0:19Speaker 1: You all ready for Halloween? Did you guys buy any candy?
- 0:22Speaker 2: I didn't buy a candy?
- 0:23Speaker 1: You know, did we eat it?
- 0:24Speaker 2: All?
- 0:25Speaker 3: Of course?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Not coming to your house? Sean tiving away.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Packs of Pokemon cards, is you though?
- 0:31Speaker 1: No, you're not.
- 0:32Speaker 3: That's Pokemon Costco had a Costco was selling a Halloween
- 0:38Speaker 3: special for Pokemon cards. It's it's ten Pokemon cards in
- 0:41Speaker 3: the Halloween theme and I got sixty packs of them
- 0:44Speaker 3: whatever for a handful of dollars. I don't remember what
- 0:45Speaker 3: I paid for them.
- 0:46Speaker 2: But can you guys talk about Pokemon cards. I'm gonna
- 0:48Speaker 2: grab my show you what my costume needs this year.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Wait, it's Slick. You're actually gonna wear a costume this year?
- 0:54Speaker 2: Do you see it? Though? Hang onlick much line.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Slick's going off to go put on put on a costume.
- 1:00Speaker 3: You know, we bought candy, and we bought some of
- 1:02Speaker 3: the Spokemon cards. We're just gonna walk Max up and
- 1:04Speaker 3: down the street just a little bit.
- 1:06Speaker 1: You know, I've noticed that less people though, do it
- 1:08Speaker 1: and do the trick or treating and the Halloween you know,
- 1:12Speaker 1: candy giving than they have in the past. I mean,
- 1:15Speaker 1: I remember I remember growing up. Every single house in
- 1:17Speaker 1: my neighborhood where I lived in Orange County, every house
- 1:21Speaker 1: gave it away. It was very rare for you to
- 1:23Speaker 1: find a house that had the lights off unless you
- 1:26Speaker 1: went out super late. And I remember we would go
- 1:28Speaker 1: out starting at six and we wouldn't be done till eight,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and I had like a pillowcase full of candy.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Oh yeah, we always had a pillowcase full.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Metropolitans though, I mean the areas you two grew up
- 1:38Speaker 2: in are they more like rural or you know.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I lived in the city in Honeyedam Beach, you know.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, it was suburb but of Orange County.
- 1:47Speaker 1: But I mean it was the neighborhood community.
- 1:51Speaker 3: We had to specifically go into town like we lived.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I lived on the Styx. I would have to walk.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I mean we had neighbors that were probably six seven
- 2:03Speaker 3: hundred yards away and then the next neighbor was like.
- 2:05Speaker 1: A mile Oh wow.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I grew up on a farm.
- 2:08Speaker 1: You know, when you did go trigger treating, there was
- 2:10Speaker 1: always those neighbors that that kind of stood out there.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Used to be a dentist, but you would go to
- 2:16Speaker 1: his house and he would give you toothpaste and toothbrushes
- 2:20Speaker 1: because he was the dentist.
- 2:21Speaker 3: But you know what, yeah, no, no, no, my dad is
- 2:23Speaker 3: also did the same thing.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yeah, we'd still go. I knew I was gonna get
- 2:27Speaker 1: I would still go because it was like, oh cool,
- 2:30Speaker 1: I'm getting something cool from this guy's house.
- 2:32Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:33Speaker 1: That was kind of the cool thing.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Now.
- 2:35Speaker 1: As a parent, I always loved taking the kids around
- 2:38Speaker 1: and there were I remember one year somebody on the street.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I guess for a year they've been collecting all the
- 2:45Speaker 1: AOL one point four to four floppies, you know, the
- 2:48Speaker 1: install discs they were. They weren't giving those out.
- 2:52Speaker 3: For I would I I should do that.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm gonna show this on camery real quick.
- 2:58Speaker 2: And then if you can recognize that, you can tell
- 3:00Speaker 2: everybody what it is. Okay, okay, if you can recognize it.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I've shot any idea lower lower decks.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Well, no, it's not lower decks is a Discovery uh,
- 3:12Speaker 2: a Star Trek Discovery shirt.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Basically, wow you you you are geek, aren't you.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Someone gave that to me and that's been my Halloween costume.
- 3:21Speaker 1: For for years, really years.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah, now because I'm too cheap to dress.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Up and now where will you?
- 3:26Speaker 3: What was the best Halloween costume you've ever worn?
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yeah? What would it? Best?
- 3:30Speaker 4: Like?
- 3:31Speaker 2: It had been something for when I was a kid,
- 3:33Speaker 2: my great grandparents, until until it was nine. He would
- 3:35Speaker 2: get me with the face masks and everything. I think
- 3:38Speaker 2: I remember Casper. I think I remember the one that
- 3:40Speaker 2: sticks on of mine is Casper, the friendly.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Ghosts, right, And that's just my mom used.
- 3:45Speaker 3: To help me make my Calloween costumes. R My favorites
- 3:49Speaker 3: are I dressed up as a Christmas tree. I dressed
- 3:55Speaker 3: up as a tube of toothpaste.
- 3:57Speaker 1: That was good with the dentists, right, yeah, yeah.
- 4:00Speaker 3: And there are some other ones. They dressed up as
- 4:02Speaker 3: like a big guy with a no head, so like
- 4:04Speaker 3: it looked like he was he was holding my head.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Oh those are great, Yeah, yeah, I like that.
- 4:11Speaker 3: But I dressed up as several of the Ninja turtles
- 4:13Speaker 3: over the years.
- 4:14Speaker 1: It's funny because I remember my mom and dad had
- 4:18Speaker 1: a British friend that worked at Mattel and I mean
- 4:22Speaker 1: at Mattel and this is you know, when Star Wars
- 4:26Speaker 1: had just come out, they didn't have the Don Post
- 4:29Speaker 1: mask out yet. So this guy, I don't know how
- 4:32Speaker 1: he did it, but he created a Darth Vader mask.
- 4:35Speaker 1: It was a two piece mask, but it was huge.
- 4:38Speaker 1: It was enormous. I mean, honestly, it looked like Stewie
- 4:42Speaker 1: from Family Guy could have worn this thing. But that
- 4:46Speaker 1: was huge. I just I always had fun with that
- 4:48Speaker 1: time of the year, and I feel bad for kids
- 4:50Speaker 1: now because again it does just not too many homes
- 4:53Speaker 1: do it. We had a house across the street from
- 4:55Speaker 1: us that for the past well probably six years the
- 5:00Speaker 1: I had been doing his front yard up and he
- 5:02Speaker 1: would start in September and he'd have brilliant displays and
- 5:07Speaker 1: you know lights, and then the street would fill on
- 5:11Speaker 1: Halloween and kids would line up to be able to
- 5:13Speaker 1: go into this guy's hunted house. This is the first
- 5:15Speaker 1: year nothing. It's not doing it. So I don't even
- 5:18Speaker 1: know if we're going to get kids this year. They're
- 5:20Speaker 1: gonna come up and down the street. I still will
- 5:22Speaker 1: set a table out and I usually sit outside it
- 5:25Speaker 1: just you know, as the kids come by, give them
- 5:27Speaker 1: the candy.
- 5:28Speaker 2: But okay, here's the problem, everybody. I started doing some brainstorming.
- 5:31Speaker 2: So here's what I think we should do. Is tech
- 5:33Speaker 2: talk radio.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Okay, all right, relax, giveaway floppy discs?
- 5:37Speaker 2: Yes, no, no, but you are close. I think what
- 5:41Speaker 2: we should do, yeah, is buy a lot of the
- 5:44Speaker 2: the small sized, cheap USB drives and load them up
- 5:49Speaker 2: with malwhere no no, no, no no, no free creative
- 5:54Speaker 2: common stuff, maybe music, maybe programs, maybe images. And then
- 5:59Speaker 2: when people come knock on the door and they go
- 6:02Speaker 2: mister Andy, mister Andy, and he would just go, hey,
- 6:05Speaker 2: treat you know.
- 6:07Speaker 1: And give them. Why would you here we are on
- 6:10Speaker 1: the air saying, and we're telling our listeners don't put
- 6:13Speaker 1: strange USB drives in your computers, and you're gonna give
- 6:17Speaker 1: kids USB drives.
- 6:20Speaker 3: I would give away how USB drives and see.
- 6:22Speaker 1: What they do, to see how many actually follow through
- 6:27Speaker 1: and put something into their computer that would be.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Be coming from us. Don't don't everybody trust us?
- 6:33Speaker 1: No, I wouldn't.
- 6:36Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 6:38Speaker 1: You've got to be really careful these days. I mean,
- 6:40Speaker 1: you never never know, and you know, now you know,
- 6:43Speaker 1: you speak as a parent, you'd have to check the
- 6:45Speaker 1: kids candy. We always did that. My parents would check
- 6:48Speaker 1: our candy and I would check my kids candy. But
- 6:52Speaker 1: you also have to check now for things like this.
- 6:55Speaker 1: If your kid gets a USB drive, make sure you
- 6:57Speaker 1: have a discussion with them not to put that into
- 6:59Speaker 1: a computer or be careful to trackers. You just never know,
- 7:03Speaker 1: you know, speaking of that, you know, to kind of
- 7:06Speaker 1: kind of move into the tech world here, you know,
- 7:09Speaker 1: Apple has had their tracker. Android is going to be
- 7:12Speaker 1: having their trackers, which they've kind of revamped them a
- 7:15Speaker 1: little bit, so it looks like, you know, if you
- 7:17Speaker 1: want to be able to track your luggage your devices,
- 7:21Speaker 1: it's gonna be a little easier, especially if you're in
- 7:23Speaker 1: the Android world and you want to be able to
- 7:25Speaker 1: track it with your Android smartphone.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Is just going to be like a Google blessed tracker
- 7:28Speaker 2: or something, because I mean, I know there was some
- 7:29Speaker 2: third part stuff.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Well, the air tags for Apple have been really successful
- 7:33Speaker 1: and very popular, and people have found other than the
- 7:36Speaker 1: worrying about them being used in the wrong way, that
- 7:40Speaker 1: when used in the right way, like tracking your luggage
- 7:42Speaker 1: or tracking other devices, has actually worked out quite well.
- 7:46Speaker 1: So Samsung has the smart tag devices and it looks
- 7:50Speaker 1: like we're going to see other alternatives now with the
- 7:54Speaker 1: Android platform for tracking. Speaking of that and looking at
- 7:58Speaker 1: what Apple's doing, there is an event that is going
- 8:02Speaker 1: to be happening on Monday, this coming Monday that our
- 8:06Speaker 1: listeners may want to check out. It's called Scary Fast
- 8:10Speaker 1: and Apple announced this this week, giving you really a
- 8:14Speaker 1: week just to get ready for this event on Monday
- 8:17Speaker 1: that's going to be happening at five pm Pacific time,
- 8:20Speaker 1: so you think about it. For the East Coast, that's
- 8:22Speaker 1: they're gonna be watching at eight. But this online event,
- 8:26Speaker 1: it's their second event that they're doing for the fall.
- 8:29Speaker 1: A lot of people are thinking they're going to be
- 8:31Speaker 1: unveiling the new M three Max. And you know, if
- 8:36Speaker 1: you've heard about what M two the M two Max
- 8:39Speaker 1: have done speed wise, I don't, Sean, did you ever
- 8:42Speaker 1: get a chance to look at one?
- 8:44Speaker 3: So I've actually got to play with so our studios
- 8:48Speaker 3: replaced all of the old Imax with the new M
- 8:51Speaker 3: two studios right, which have been it's there incredibly fast
- 8:57Speaker 3: and they're designed. I mean, Justine's not here so he
- 9:01Speaker 3: can't pooh pooh all over this, right, yeah, yeah, but
- 9:04Speaker 3: I think he would even agree that these Max studios
- 9:08Speaker 3: are designed for media professionals, right, he'll agree with that,
- 9:12Speaker 3: He's even said that. But going in and putting a
- 9:16Speaker 3: file into Premiere and trans coding it and it just
- 9:19Speaker 3: going like that, just being done, I was just like,
- 9:23Speaker 3: holy crap, you know, and going back to twenty and
- 9:27Speaker 3: ten two nine, twenty ten where I worked at Fox
- 9:31Speaker 3: and we were having still having to transcode MPEG fours
- 9:36Speaker 3: to MPEG two because Final Cut seven didn't support MPEG four, right,
- 9:42Speaker 3: So it's like going from that to this felt like
- 9:45Speaker 3: I was jumping ahead even further than I am now.
- 9:48Speaker 3: So you see, So it was so fast.
- 9:50Speaker 1: You see the benefits in Premiere are are you see
- 9:53Speaker 1: the benefits in you know, on Final Cut? But I
- 9:55Speaker 1: mean you would basically with that, You're going to see
- 9:57Speaker 1: the benefits in any kind of graph or audio editing
- 10:01Speaker 1: program or pretty much anything where media everything.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Everything was so snappy, I mean just but just from
- 10:07Speaker 3: a transcoding like a CPU processing you know, pop a
- 10:13Speaker 3: need for that, right, transcoding has been very CPU heavy.
- 10:17Speaker 3: It just crunched the videos, It just chewed through them
- 10:21Speaker 3: so fast.
- 10:22Speaker 1: It's so funny because I, you know, I've been a
- 10:24Speaker 1: long time user of for on the on the map,
- 10:27Speaker 1: the window side of Adobe a Premiere Pro, and I
- 10:31Speaker 1: liked it. And I remember somebody and I had a Mac.
- 10:34Speaker 1: The folks at Apple had sent us a Mac that
- 10:36Speaker 1: we played around with, and I wish you could remember
- 10:38Speaker 1: which model it was, and I I want to had
- 10:42Speaker 1: I went ahead. I don't know why, but I was
- 10:44Speaker 1: gonna stay in the Mac world, and I bought a
- 10:45Speaker 1: copy of Final Cut and I used it, and I
- 10:49Speaker 1: was afraid I would be a little timid about using it,
- 10:52Speaker 1: but Final Cut was It's so much similar to Premiere,
- 10:56Speaker 1: you know, or or those in the macworld might say
- 10:58Speaker 1: that Premiere is so much similar to Final Cut, but
- 11:01Speaker 1: as far as the layout and how you do that.
- 11:04Speaker 1: But even then, you took a file on your in
- 11:08Speaker 1: your Windows platform, and you took a file on the
- 11:10Speaker 1: Apple platform and you went to render. And what for
- 11:13Speaker 1: the listeners who don't know what that means. That means
- 11:15Speaker 1: you're taking all of these cut images, audio video, et cetera, phades, dissolves,
- 11:21Speaker 1: and then you're combining it down. You're mixing it down
- 11:24Speaker 1: to that one final that Final Cut, right you do
- 11:28Speaker 1: that on the MAX still outperformed the PC. And again
- 11:33Speaker 1: I love Adobe and I still use Premiere Pro. But
- 11:36Speaker 1: with Final Cut, it really did perform well. And I
- 11:39Speaker 1: can imagine the M three is going to be amazing.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Yeah, so the M three is going to be amazing.
- 11:44Speaker 3: And I think we've talked about this a little bit before,
- 11:46Speaker 3: but Adobe did the right thing back in two thousand
- 11:51Speaker 3: and eight, two and nine when Apple actually launched Final
- 11:56Speaker 3: Cut ten foule cut acts at the time. Yeah, well
- 11:59Speaker 3: it was File Cut ten time. Now it's just or
- 12:01Speaker 3: Final Cut pro now. But Apple didn't support Sony XDKM formats,
- 12:08Speaker 3: which was still the industry leading in the TV world,
- 12:11Speaker 3: the industry leading codec for recording HD. So you couldn't
- 12:16Speaker 3: natively shoot Sony XDCM and import it into Final Cut.
- 12:21Speaker 3: So Premiere said, well, here's our Mac version of Premiere
- 12:25Speaker 3: that supports XDCAM, and a ton of places I know
- 12:30Speaker 3: switched over to Premiere because they supported that. They supported
- 12:34Speaker 3: it natively. Apple filed suit about two years later, but
- 12:39Speaker 3: lost a huge market share when Adobe went from just
- 12:42Speaker 3: being PC based to including it being Mac based.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I'm not surprised about all of this because I just
- 12:48Speaker 2: it's the blessing of the Wall Garden though, isn't it.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I mean, you have the operating system, you get the hardware,
- 12:52Speaker 2: and then you have applications tuned you know to the
- 12:56Speaker 2: sports car right.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Yeah, but it was it was Apple just trying to
- 13:00Speaker 3: be that progressive as they were before, where they were like,
- 13:03Speaker 3: we don't want XDCAM, we don't want Adobe or Avid DNX,
- 13:09Speaker 3: we want you to use pro res. That's what That's
- 13:12Speaker 3: what they were trying to push, right, They were trying
- 13:13Speaker 3: to push their platform for everybody. They wanted the industry
- 13:16Speaker 3: to switch to pro res, and it backfired on them
- 13:19Speaker 3: because a lot of people said, We're not going to
- 13:22Speaker 3: invest all this money in new hardware just to shoot
- 13:24Speaker 3: pro res when XDCAM just just support XDCAM.
- 13:31Speaker 1: How do you feel okay with with Apple doing this
- 13:33Speaker 1: big event that's coming up, which again is not going
- 13:36Speaker 1: to be nobody's going to be attending this thing to
- 13:38Speaker 1: be able to watch it online. If it is the
- 13:41Speaker 1: M three Max, and I mean these are performance boosted
- 13:45Speaker 1: like the we saw the M two versus the M one.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I mean that was pretty much a big jump. Could
- 13:51Speaker 1: the M three's be even more of a jump.
- 13:53Speaker 3: We've got to hit a certain point of diminishing returns.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Yeah right, how how like the increments can't keep getting
- 14:02Speaker 3: that big?
- 14:03Speaker 1: Yeah exactly?
- 14:04Speaker 3: Like or like is the technology really coming at us
- 14:07Speaker 3: that fast?
- 14:08Speaker 1: That?
- 14:09Speaker 3: But like, what are they developing for ten years from now?
- 14:12Speaker 3: But I'm excited to see the M three's because we're
- 14:15Speaker 3: already what M ones came out in twenty nineteen, twenty twenty,
- 14:20Speaker 3: right before COVID, so we're already three years in. But
- 14:23Speaker 3: this is the Are they really expecting to release a
- 14:25Speaker 3: new generationship every year?
- 14:27Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 14:27Speaker 1: It seems like the M twos have not been around
- 14:29Speaker 1: that long enough for people to save up their pennies
- 14:32Speaker 1: and be able to go out and afford to buy one.
- 14:34Speaker 3: But I mean, is their development process that fast that
- 14:38Speaker 3: we're expecting a year to year development return in processing chips? Like,
- 14:43Speaker 3: is their return on an investment that high that they
- 14:46Speaker 3: can just dump all this money into new technology?
- 14:51Speaker 1: I kind of want surprised.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't see how their development outpaces the sales.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I kind of wonder that. Sean. It's like we've heard
- 15:03Speaker 1: talk about you know, Intel and you know with their processors,
- 15:06Speaker 1: their their new their new processor being able to hit
- 15:10Speaker 1: you know, six gigahertz steady.
- 15:12Speaker 3: You know, I just I just watched a gamer Nexus
- 15:15Speaker 3: video about the I Fourteen's the fourteen series, right, and
- 15:20Speaker 3: they are significantly disappointed in the in the performance of
- 15:23Speaker 3: the fourteenth over the thirteenth. Well, they're basically saying, if
- 15:27Speaker 3: you can get a fourteen for cheaper than at thirteen, great,
- 15:31Speaker 3: but don't waste your money on the fourteenth gen.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Yeah, because they're gonna be really expensive. I bought the
- 15:36Speaker 1: thirteen nine and I gotta say it, it blew the
- 15:40Speaker 1: doors off anything. Uh not only that, it's also very quiet.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Just it was a performer, and I love the thirteen series.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I've been pretty happy. Thirteen seven thirteen nine both been
- 15:52Speaker 1: really good. That's why I'm thinking, where where will the
- 15:55Speaker 1: well where this fourteen go? Is it just another way
- 15:58Speaker 1: to keep the sale is going the momentum. Here's a
- 16:02Speaker 1: motherboard that'll support it. Here's video card, you know, here's
- 16:05Speaker 1: all of these things all add up to create the PC.
- 16:10Speaker 1: You know, when will you say what I've got is great?
- 16:12Speaker 1: This will last me for about five or six years
- 16:15Speaker 1: before it's time to update.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean process is because of speed, because you
- 16:20Speaker 2: needed that for like the video production you're doing, right,
- 16:23Speaker 2: is that the case?
- 16:24Speaker 1: And yeah?
- 16:24Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, all right, because you know I'm imagining with Apple.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I mean we're heading towards the bus. Well, it's on
- 16:30Speaker 2: the market yet, but it's there, it exists, So Apple's
- 16:33Speaker 2: got devias. The next thing is the neoport, you know,
- 16:35Speaker 2: the one that goes back in your head like we
- 16:37Speaker 2: had in the movie the neuralink.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Yeah, the neuralinks SpaceX.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Yeah that Musk is doing.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Yeah, oh that's right, Elon's working on it. I forgot,
- 16:48Speaker 2: I completely forget about it.
- 16:49Speaker 1: I am pretty sure a lot of people would say, yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 1: you know what, I think I'll pass on that one.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I don't think they'll they'll want to have a chip
- 16:58Speaker 1: embedded in their syss to say.
- 17:02Speaker 2: I think.
- 17:02Speaker 3: I think a lot of people would go for it.
- 17:06Speaker 3: I think I think in this day and age, we're
- 17:09Speaker 3: already in dystopian society. Why not make some money and
- 17:14Speaker 3: risk it. Right, If it fries your brain, it's over.
- 17:17Speaker 3: But if it, if it works, it's gonna be sweet
- 17:19Speaker 3: and you're gonna be there and you're gonna be one
- 17:21Speaker 3: of them.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I don't think that. I don't know.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you're gonna have people on both sides. You're
- 17:29Speaker 3: gonna have the people that are not gonna touch it
- 17:31Speaker 3: with you know, from orbit, You're gonna have people that
- 17:34Speaker 3: are jumping on every opportunity to advance themselves bionically. Right.
- 17:39Speaker 3: It's just it's just the way humans are. You're gonna
- 17:42Speaker 3: have one side that wants to push the envelope, and
- 17:44Speaker 3: you're gonna have the other one that says, no, I'm
- 17:47Speaker 3: good back here, back in the forties or whatever.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I know more and more people now are
- 17:53Speaker 1: are delving into that AI world. We've talked about that
- 17:56Speaker 1: before a lot. You know, even even and Sean over
- 18:00Speaker 1: there has been playing around with the graphics. Did you
- 18:03Speaker 1: do when you did your graphics? Did you use a
- 18:06Speaker 1: open AI to do that?
- 18:08Speaker 3: I did, Dolly two point zero okay because now which
- 18:12Speaker 3: it worked out. Okay, But I did just read an
- 18:15Speaker 3: article that there is a new tool that can put
- 18:23Speaker 3: corrupt data into images so that when AI reads it,
- 18:27Speaker 3: it doesn't know how to properly interpret it and it
- 18:29Speaker 3: will give you bad images.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Oh wow, really, so you can.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Upload your images with a basically I'm assuming it's some
- 18:38Speaker 3: sort of digital watermark, right, Yeah, that when it's scanned
- 18:42Speaker 3: by AI. AI doesn't know how to decrypt those bits,
- 18:47Speaker 3: so it can't learn from your images.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Oh that's interesting. I don't know. You know now if
- 18:53Speaker 1: you go to open dot ai, I know that you
- 18:57Speaker 1: will get a prompt for actually creating. And so now
- 19:01Speaker 1: their focus seems to be less on the textual type
- 19:04Speaker 1: of imaging and now it's more the graphical and I
- 19:09Speaker 1: don't know, I've been pretty pretty pleased with the results,
- 19:14Speaker 1: and more and more people now are trying it and
- 19:16Speaker 1: finding it to be normal. But I think what some
- 19:18Speaker 1: of these companies are doing is they're saying, come try this,
- 19:22Speaker 1: come try this, get used to it. Now, let's charge you.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I mean, we saw that with the models of chad GPT,
- 19:28Speaker 1: where you had a model that's free and some people
- 19:30Speaker 1: are still using that, and then you have a paid version. People,
- 19:34Speaker 1: as Slick and I were talking before the show, people
- 19:37Speaker 1: are putting it now on their resumes saying that you know,
- 19:40Speaker 1: I can do this, I know how to work the
- 19:43Speaker 1: AI because that's becoming what companies want to have. They
- 19:47Speaker 1: want somebody, do you understand it? Can you run this?
- 19:50Speaker 1: If I give you a paper, can you create something
- 19:52Speaker 1: with this little game?
- 19:53Speaker 2: For everybody? To play at home. Guess which one of
- 19:54Speaker 2: us three has it on their resume.
- 20:00Speaker 1: All right, we gotta take a break. We got we
- 20:03Speaker 1: get some great guests lined up. We're gonna talk with
- 20:05Speaker 1: our good buddy Mitch Goldstone from scam My Photos. If
- 20:09Speaker 1: you're looking for a perfect gift for the holidays or
- 20:11Speaker 1: you want to preserve those images. Mitch is always great
- 20:14Speaker 1: on the show, and he's gonna tell you about what
- 20:16Speaker 1: they're doing and how they can make it super fast
- 20:19Speaker 1: to gate your photos and your film digitized to preserve
- 20:24Speaker 1: it and keep it safe. We're also gonna be talking
- 20:26Speaker 1: about your antenna and a DVR. You want to be
- 20:31Speaker 1: able to record off air television, not not with over
- 20:35Speaker 1: the air television, not with maybe a VHS cassette, but
- 20:40Speaker 1: digitally and then be able to watch it anywhere. Tableau
- 20:43Speaker 1: TV is the company that does that. We're gonna be
- 20:45Speaker 1: talking to you want it already, We're gonna be talking
- 20:50Speaker 1: with the CEO of the company of Tableau TV. That's
- 20:52Speaker 1: all gonna be coming up with tech talk Radio. I'm
- 20:55Speaker 1: Andy Taylor, I'm Sean weird And and you can find
- 20:58Speaker 1: us on the world Wide Web. But tech talk radio
- 21:00Speaker 1: dot com also be sure to check out our blog.
- 21:03Speaker 1: You can see the video that Shonda Weird did last
- 21:06Speaker 1: week regarding I fix It if you've ever wanted to
- 21:09Speaker 1: take on a project and fix it yourself when it
- 21:12Speaker 1: comes to technology that the company to look at, and
- 21:14Speaker 1: you can see how easy it was with the company
- 21:17Speaker 1: I fix It replacing a battery. And again that's on
- 21:20Speaker 1: blog the tech talk radio dot com. We'll be right
- 21:23Speaker 1: back and now back to tech talk Radio. You know,
- 21:27Speaker 1: sometimes I catch the old person in me saying, these
- 21:31Speaker 1: kids have no idea how easy it is today, because
- 21:34Speaker 1: I mean I used to love watching shows like Starsky
- 21:37Speaker 1: and Hunch and Adam twelve and Emergency. And the thing is,
- 21:40Speaker 1: if I watched them on TV and maybe I missed
- 21:43Speaker 1: the ending, that's it. I was done. Unless they played
- 21:46Speaker 1: in reruns, I couldn't go back and see what happened. Well,
- 21:49Speaker 1: what's really cool about that is we've seen technology kind
- 21:53Speaker 1: of change now over the years, and now DVRs they're commonplace.
- 21:58Speaker 1: But the thing is, what if you want to be
- 21:59Speaker 1: a core cutter, but you still want to have that
- 22:01Speaker 1: capability to maybe watch your favorite show at another time.
- 22:05Speaker 1: There are some great choices of programming and you may say,
- 22:08Speaker 1: well tonight, I want to watch this and maybe I
- 22:11Speaker 1: want to record this. Well, the old days of the
- 22:14Speaker 1: VCRs they're gone, but even then they made it difficult
- 22:18Speaker 1: to be able to record one, watch another and do
- 22:20Speaker 1: all that. Well, there was a company called Nouvio that
- 22:23Speaker 1: is the maker of Tableau TV and you may have
- 22:25Speaker 1: seen their social Their marketing department has been doing great
- 22:28Speaker 1: because you see them all over social media, but really
- 22:31Speaker 1: what is it all about? And we decided let's get
- 22:34Speaker 1: them on the show. And Grant Hall is the CEO
- 22:37Speaker 1: for Tableau TV Neuvio and it's with us on the line.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Great to talk to you, sir, Yeah, great to talk
- 22:43Speaker 1: to you.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Thanks for having me on the show.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Well tell us you know, we're talking about a product
- 22:47Speaker 1: that was introduced back or at least the concept, back
- 22:50Speaker 1: in twenty ten. How long is it obviously thirteen years now,
- 22:55Speaker 1: but how has that development stage happened? And what was
- 22:58Speaker 1: the original idea for the.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Well, core cutting was the original idea. And you know
- 23:03Speaker 4: one thing that you know happened just before twenty ten
- 23:07Speaker 4: was the US changed to a digital you know, over
- 23:11Speaker 4: the air transmission standard. So most people out there don't
- 23:14Speaker 4: realize that you know, with a simple antenna but the
- 23:16Speaker 4: size of a piece of paper, you know, on your window,
- 23:20Speaker 4: you can get stations in better quality than a cable
- 23:24Speaker 4: and satellite. They're all digital, they're all you know, high def.
- 23:27Speaker 4: They look gorgeous. So what we want to do is
- 23:30Speaker 4: enable people to enjoy that content. And the best part
- 23:34Speaker 4: of it is it's free. You know, you don't pay
- 23:36Speaker 4: for it. So we we build a device that you
- 23:39Speaker 4: just connect this little antenna too. You put it up
- 23:41Speaker 4: in your window and then it connects into your Roku,
- 23:46Speaker 4: your Apple TV, your your Android TV, whatever device you know,
- 23:51Speaker 4: mobile phone, tablet you're using to watch TV on, and
- 23:55Speaker 4: it gives you access to all that over the air
- 23:57Speaker 4: content and gorgeous high depth.
- 24:00Speaker 1: And that's I think that's what surprised a lot of
- 24:02Speaker 1: people because I think we've thought of this traditionally in
- 24:05Speaker 1: the past. As you know, with an antenna, you're tied
- 24:07Speaker 1: to that television that if you were at work it
- 24:10Speaker 1: suddenly wanted to see something, Nope, you had to have
- 24:12Speaker 1: an antenna on your TV at work. If you had
- 24:15Speaker 1: something like this with this, once it's recorded, you have
- 24:18Speaker 1: that access to be able to stream it to whatever
- 24:22Speaker 1: device that you're watching it on with the with the
- 24:24Speaker 1: Roku or et cetera, and watch it anywhere.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Absolutely, and with live TV as well. It's not just
- 24:31Speaker 4: recorded TV, so and it's every device and multiple devices
- 24:35Speaker 4: at the home at the same time. So somebody in
- 24:37Speaker 4: the bedroom, living room, kitchen can all be watching different
- 24:40Speaker 4: shows or recordings and enjoying that content on whatever device
- 24:44Speaker 4: they want to. So that's what nature, and it allows
- 24:47Speaker 4: you to put the device, you know where the antenna
- 24:50Speaker 4: is the best place to be, you know, which is
- 24:52Speaker 4: typically a pie you know, it's not next to your
- 24:54Speaker 4: TV and maybe in a bedroom, it maybe in a
- 24:57Speaker 4: window facing the towers at the at the top of
- 25:00Speaker 4: your house. So you can put the antenna where you
- 25:03Speaker 4: get the best reception. Just connecting the device and we
- 25:06Speaker 4: connect wirelessly into your home network and then the magic happens.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Now we have told listeners in the past that have
- 25:12Speaker 1: wanted to connect to some of our local channels that
- 25:16Speaker 1: there's antenna TV that gives you the ability to be
- 25:18Speaker 1: able to look and see what is the closest towers,
- 25:22Speaker 1: which direction you want to point them to. Do you
- 25:24Speaker 1: use that same type of resource?
- 25:25Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely. If you go to our website tableautv dot com.
- 25:30Speaker 4: It has resources exactly like that. You can put in
- 25:33Speaker 4: your zip code. It'll tell you exactly where the towers are,
- 25:36Speaker 4: what kind of channels you should expect to get. You know,
- 25:38Speaker 4: it's a great resource to go to first to see
- 25:41Speaker 4: is this going to work for me where I live?
- 25:44Speaker 1: You know, Grant, I know that yourself and a lot
- 25:47Speaker 1: of your staff have done trade shows and showing the
- 25:50Speaker 1: actual product and how it works. What it seems to
- 25:53Speaker 1: be the biggest surprise that people have when they see
- 25:56Speaker 1: Tableau TV.
- 25:57Speaker 4: I think the big surprise is one equality, right, you know,
- 26:00Speaker 4: for us, so they're a bit older, we kind of
- 26:02Speaker 4: remember the olden days of antenna's where you know, ghosty
- 26:04Speaker 4: picture you had to move the antenna around, dance on
- 26:06Speaker 4: one foot to get it. This is all digital. It's
- 26:09Speaker 4: it's better quality and cable and satellite, you know, the
- 26:13Speaker 4: breadth of the content. All your major you know stations
- 26:16Speaker 4: are typically available in your location, know, ABC, NBC, Fox, CBS.
- 26:22Speaker 4: And then one of the innovations with this new law
- 26:25Speaker 4: launch or the latest product is we're adding a bunch
- 26:27Speaker 4: of channels that come over the internet. So we call
- 26:30Speaker 4: those fast channels free ad supported TV. So we have
- 26:34Speaker 4: about sixty channels today, we'll have about a one hundred
- 26:36Speaker 4: by the end of the year, and that together with
- 26:40Speaker 4: the over the air content, gives you just, you know,
- 26:42Speaker 4: pretty much whatever you'd want. And both those fast channels
- 26:47Speaker 4: that come over the Internet and the OTA channels can
- 26:49Speaker 4: be recorded and time shifted and plane back, you know,
- 26:52Speaker 4: whenever you want to enjoy them, and that's pretty much revolutionary.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Well, yeah, the other fact Grant's got to be to
- 26:59Speaker 1: the ease of use. Let's face it, some people have
- 27:02Speaker 1: been a little timid about number one setting up antenna
- 27:04Speaker 1: because they're thinking it's going to be too difficult, and
- 27:07Speaker 1: especially if you start telling them DVR. I mean, I
- 27:10Speaker 1: remember our parents. They didn't even want to do the VHS,
- 27:13Speaker 1: Betamax whole thing because my dad just thought it was
- 27:16Speaker 1: going to be too difficult. But with this you have
- 27:19Speaker 1: the ability to set this up very easily. And most
- 27:22Speaker 1: most of us are using smartphones so that we can
- 27:24Speaker 1: or even smart TVs that we can watch this content
- 27:27Speaker 1: in a different room. If we recorded on the system
- 27:31Speaker 1: that's in the living room, we can go to our
- 27:33Speaker 1: room where maybe we didn't have that same kind of reception.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Let's face it. It works that way, you're going to
- 27:38Speaker 1: be able to see it there.
- 27:40Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, it streams to every TV in the house,
- 27:43Speaker 4: you know, a fantastic quality.
- 27:46Speaker 1: You know.
- 27:47Speaker 4: One of the things we've really focused on with this
- 27:48Speaker 4: new release is a whole new user experience. So the
- 27:53Speaker 4: interface is gorgeous. You know, it's kind of better than
- 27:56Speaker 4: Netflix or competitors. We think. We have a homepage that
- 28:00Speaker 4: services tons of content that's currently playing or that you
- 28:03Speaker 4: may want to record. You can look through different genres,
- 28:06Speaker 4: you know, we have a traditional grid guide if that's
- 28:09Speaker 4: what you want to look at, just what's on right now.
- 28:12Speaker 4: So we prought tons of tools really to allow you
- 28:14Speaker 4: to find that content sus just new content, and then
- 28:17Speaker 4: instantly one click recorded or watch it.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Well, Grant, one of the things about cork cutting is
- 28:23Speaker 1: you're trying to eliminate costs. The cost of cable. Let's
- 28:26Speaker 1: face it has gone up quite a bit, quite dramatically,
- 28:29Speaker 1: but a lot of us will keep the Internet. We
- 28:31Speaker 1: have that so we can use some of those streaming
- 28:33Speaker 1: services that are out there, whether it be Netflix, Hulu
- 28:36Speaker 1: or some of those Crackle, et cetera. Shows like that.
- 28:40Speaker 1: But the fact is is that that we want to
- 28:42Speaker 1: get away from subscriptions. How is the cost model on
- 28:46Speaker 1: Tableau TV? Is it you buy it? Is there a subscription?
- 28:49Speaker 1: How does that work?
- 28:50Speaker 4: There's absolutely no subscription. So you buy the product, you know,
- 28:54Speaker 4: from then that's the only expense you have. You've set
- 28:57Speaker 4: it up. It's going to use some bandwidth over the
- 28:59Speaker 4: inner to get those Internet based fast channels. But all
- 29:03Speaker 4: the OTA channels come in, you know, gorgeous, you know,
- 29:05Speaker 4: high def, great quality surround sound, you know, absolutely for free.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Now is it recording on the in the cloud or
- 29:12Speaker 1: is it recording on SD type devices inside the tables?
- 29:16Speaker 4: Some solid state storage in it, so it has enough
- 29:19Speaker 4: to do about you know, fifty hours of high def
- 29:22Speaker 4: you know, but you can also plug in like a
- 29:25Speaker 4: simple USB hard drive you know that you can buy
- 29:27Speaker 4: for like fifty bucks with two terabytes and that will
- 29:30Speaker 4: give you, you know, hundreds of hours of recording capability.
- 29:34Speaker 4: So so either way, you know, lots of storage available.
- 29:38Speaker 5: Now.
- 29:38Speaker 1: One of the things I know about this grant is
- 29:40Speaker 1: that it has the ats C one tuners in it.
- 29:44Speaker 1: As ATSC three continues to evolve, is this something that
- 29:47Speaker 1: we all see and maybe future Tableau TV models.
- 29:51Speaker 4: Yeah, we're looking at that in new models. Unfortunately, the
- 29:55Speaker 4: technology today is not completely backward compatible. But ATC one
- 29:58Speaker 4: is going to be around, you know, at least five years.
- 30:02Speaker 4: You know, lots of people say probably ten years. So
- 30:05Speaker 4: the current you know, TV is not going away. It's
- 30:08Speaker 4: going to be around with us for a long long time.
- 30:10Speaker 4: So if you're worried about making the investment, you don't
- 30:13Speaker 4: really need to worry about it. ATSC three is just
- 30:16Speaker 4: in the very early stages of launch. You know, it
- 30:20Speaker 4: still covers i think they're saying now but seventy percent
- 30:22Speaker 4: of households in the US, but it largely duplicates the
- 30:25Speaker 4: content you have on ATC one exactly, so you're not
- 30:29Speaker 4: missing anything at this point in time. But yes, we're
- 30:32Speaker 4: also looking at, you know, incorporating the lace technologies and
- 30:35Speaker 4: future products.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Well of course, and plus that you've added this this
- 30:38Speaker 1: new kind of service where people can actually get some
- 30:41Speaker 1: of these shows that are available online all within that
- 30:44Speaker 1: one so it's not like having to go back and forth.
- 30:47Speaker 1: This can be their main unit that they watch their
- 30:50Speaker 1: content on.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:51Speaker 4: Absolutely, I mean a channel is a channel within kind
- 30:54Speaker 4: of our user interface. So whether it's coming over the
- 30:57Speaker 4: air through an antenna, or whether it's coming over the internet.
- 31:00Speaker 4: You don't know, it looks identical to you. You record it,
- 31:03Speaker 4: you watch it the same way. It just means you've
- 31:06Speaker 4: got suddenly, you know, one hundred channels where you know,
- 31:10Speaker 4: essentially for free, no subscription.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Yeah, plus do you get the local channels? And that's
- 31:14Speaker 1: you know, that's what's important to a lot of people.
- 31:16Speaker 1: There are some services out there that people pay for
- 31:19Speaker 1: they don't get access to CBS, NBC or ABC locally,
- 31:24Speaker 1: and thus they're missing out on news.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:27Speaker 4: Absolutely, I think you know that we hear that from
- 31:29Speaker 4: all of our customers, right, you know, having that connection
- 31:31Speaker 4: to their local community to see the local news and
- 31:35Speaker 4: you know, more importantly the sports, you know, is critically important.
- 31:38Speaker 4: So that's why we think combining the over the air
- 31:41Speaker 4: experience with you know, the internet, that the experience is
- 31:45Speaker 4: really the best way to do things.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Now, go online to the website and take a look
- 31:50Speaker 1: at Tableau TV. Now, is there a couple of different
- 31:53Speaker 1: packages Like if I want to get maybe I've got
- 31:56Speaker 1: an Intenta, maybe I'm old school and got it off
- 31:59Speaker 1: the roof, or you know, I want to go get
- 32:00Speaker 1: one of those new flat antennas that you know work
- 32:03Speaker 1: pretty good or do you Is there a bundle with
- 32:05Speaker 1: an antenna in it?
- 32:07Speaker 4: Yeah, there are both products. So if you go to
- 32:09Speaker 4: our website or Amazon dot com, you'll see that there's
- 32:12Speaker 4: an unbundled product which is just a product, and you know,
- 32:16Speaker 4: you buy your own antenna. Again, it has flash storage
- 32:19Speaker 4: on board, so there's no need to buy a hard
- 32:21Speaker 4: drive unless you really want to have a lot of storage.
- 32:24Speaker 4: You just plug it in, you know, pull up them
- 32:27Speaker 4: oil app, set it up. It's very easy and quick
- 32:29Speaker 4: to do. But we also have a bundle that includes
- 32:32Speaker 4: a flat antenna, you know, with a really good quality
- 32:35Speaker 4: coax so that you know, if you're in a metropolitan
- 32:39Speaker 4: area where you're reasonably close to the stations, that's going
- 32:42Speaker 4: to give you a great experience.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Exactly. Now for setting it up, it's a piece of
- 32:47Speaker 1: cake to go through. People can go online, they can
- 32:49Speaker 1: see the step by steps they get that with the
- 32:52Speaker 1: with the product that they buy. And then of course
- 32:54Speaker 1: the DVR features. What are some of the different you
- 32:58Speaker 1: get some oart TVs. What are some of the other
- 33:00Speaker 1: devices they'd be able to stream to?
- 33:03Speaker 4: Well, right now, we're supporting Android you know TV ecosystem
- 33:08Speaker 4: that includes Google and you know in video shield those products.
- 33:13Speaker 4: We support the Amazon Fire TV ecosystem. We support Roku
- 33:19Speaker 4: very surely. We'll have an Apple TV app. We have
- 33:22Speaker 4: an iPhone mobile app, we have an iPad app, and
- 33:25Speaker 4: we have an Android phone and tablet app. And we'll
- 33:29Speaker 4: shortly be releasing some more smart TV apps. You know,
- 33:32Speaker 4: right now we supports Roku smart TVs, Android smart TV's
- 33:36Speaker 4: like Sony's, and we'll expand that over the next you know,
- 33:39Speaker 4: six months or so.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Now, Grant you mentioned it. You know, I remember the
- 33:42Speaker 1: old days. I was the remote control. Dad would say,
- 33:45Speaker 1: get up, Jade the channel. You only had a few choices,
- 33:48Speaker 1: and then if the picture quality wasn't that great with
- 33:50Speaker 1: the antenna, I am the one who had to hold it,
- 33:52Speaker 1: and sometimes all of a sudden the picture would be
- 33:54Speaker 1: good as soon as I touch the antenna. Does they
- 33:56Speaker 1: just stay there? I want to what this show? Yes,
- 34:01Speaker 1: you know, it brings back some good memories. But the
- 34:03Speaker 1: quality of the picture that you get now is pretty amazing.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Like you said, high definition. Some people don't have no
- 34:10Speaker 1: idea that TV stations actually put up this content with
- 34:13Speaker 1: the best picture quality, and sometimes when they switch back
- 34:17Speaker 1: to antenna they're pretty amazed with what they get.
- 34:19Speaker 4: Absolutely. I mean the cable stations, you know, on satellite
- 34:22Speaker 4: need to fit a lot of stations into a small space,
- 34:26Speaker 4: so they tend to compress them, which can compromise the
- 34:29Speaker 4: image quality. We're over the air, you don't have that
- 34:32Speaker 4: problem as much, so you can use you know, much
- 34:35Speaker 4: more spectrum, higher bit rates. You can get a much
- 34:38Speaker 4: better you know, experience and a much better picture.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Well, you've come a long way and again Nuvio has
- 34:43Speaker 1: got a great product with the Tableau TV. Again I'm
- 34:46Speaker 1: helping our listeners check it out. All they need to
- 34:48Speaker 1: do they can go to Amazon, they can find more
- 34:50Speaker 1: info there, but of course Tableau TV they can get
- 34:53Speaker 1: all that info right there on the website. Grant, I
- 34:55Speaker 1: want to thank you so much for taking the time
- 34:57Speaker 1: and talking to us about Tableau TV.
- 34:59Speaker 2: It's been my pleasure.
- 35:00Speaker 1: We'll be back with more of tech Talk Radio.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Now back to tech Talk Radio.
- 35:07Speaker 1: We've had some guests over the years that have returned
- 35:10Speaker 1: to the show because they offer a product to you,
- 35:13Speaker 1: the listener, the consumer that can benefit them greatly. And
- 35:17Speaker 1: one of those that I am always proud to have
- 35:20Speaker 1: on the show is the folks that scan my photos.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Mitch Goldstone, who is standing by with us on the line. Mitch,
- 35:27Speaker 1: how you doing today, Andy.
- 35:29Speaker 5: Great to be with you again, congratulations and everything with
- 35:32Speaker 5: tech Talk Radio. I just read your blog. I think
- 35:36Speaker 5: it was like from last month about safeguarding your gadgets
- 35:39Speaker 5: beyond all like the anti virus software. You always have
- 35:42Speaker 5: such great content that you know we all learn from.
- 35:45Speaker 5: So thank you well.
- 35:46Speaker 1: And yours is Yours is a product and service that
- 35:50Speaker 1: a lot of our listeners have no idea how invaluable
- 35:55Speaker 1: you you are to them. Unfortunately sometimes until an accident happens,
- 36:01Speaker 1: and they do happen, whether it be you know, a
- 36:04Speaker 1: flood or a fire or something devastating that happens, where
- 36:09Speaker 1: all those images over the years captured could be lost
- 36:12Speaker 1: if they haven't been digitized.
- 36:15Speaker 5: Indeed, you know, and you have a really interesting story
- 36:20Speaker 5: and updates since we last spoke. It's been in business
- 36:23Speaker 5: over thirty years, but nothing has ever happened like this,
- 36:27Speaker 5: and I don't know for any other tech companies if
- 36:29Speaker 5: there it's more aspirational. The Associated Press did a feature profile.
- 36:35Speaker 5: It was picked up in five hundred media outlets about
- 36:39Speaker 5: exactly this topic, about their urgency of protecting and digitizing
- 36:44Speaker 5: your photos, slides, home movies, and it was it was
- 36:48Speaker 5: so emotional, but it was it was kind of frustrating
- 36:50Speaker 5: to the tech reporter for ap was procrastinating. It was
- 36:57Speaker 5: actually years. He had all of his dad's Remember the
- 37:00Speaker 5: thirty five millimeters slides.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, they came in that care. They would
- 37:03Speaker 1: be you'd put them in the carousel and you would
- 37:05Speaker 1: sit and watch them projected onto a curtains.
- 37:10Speaker 5: That's right. We actually updated a service we have just
- 37:13Speaker 5: for slide carousels. It's fifty nine dollars for the entire
- 37:17Speaker 5: slide carousel and people have dozens. But with this reporter,
- 37:22Speaker 5: it was so sad because he procrastinated and his dad
- 37:25Speaker 5: passed away, and then he had us digitize all of
- 37:29Speaker 5: his dad's photos. He was an avid photographer and handy
- 37:34Speaker 5: the story. It took seven months and it got so big.
- 37:37Speaker 5: We had profiled five of our customers. Ones an executive
- 37:42Speaker 5: at Chevron that had a scan about one hundred thousand
- 37:45Speaker 5: of his slides. But you remember, remember I'm dating myself.
- 37:50Speaker 5: But Mary Tyler Moore show.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Oh yes, definitely with that Ed Asner and all and
- 37:55Speaker 1: Barry Tyler Moore, the whole cast exactly.
- 37:58Speaker 5: I'm sure your listeners do, and of course with Lou
- 38:01Speaker 5: Grant afterwards, well after ed Asner passed away, his son
- 38:05Speaker 5: had us digitize his dad's entire lifetime of photos that
- 38:12Speaker 5: no one's ever seen. Matt had posted them on social media,
- 38:17Speaker 5: got tens of thousands of admiration. You'll love everything from it,
- 38:23Speaker 5: and Matt and was in the story and a lot
- 38:26Speaker 5: of his dad's most favorite photos just spanning decades were
- 38:32Speaker 5: profiled too. But the story I'm sharing is is I
- 38:37Speaker 5: mentioned it's aspirational. When the AP story hit, it changed
- 38:43Speaker 5: everything or everything we had kind of crashed. We had
- 38:46Speaker 5: to redesign the website modernize it, which was good, and
- 38:52Speaker 5: that goes into your opening comment about you know, people
- 38:57Speaker 5: just wait until something happens, but it was it changed
- 39:03Speaker 5: everything for us, being featured in the Associated Press. So
- 39:07Speaker 5: really happy that so many people finally jumped on board,
- 39:13Speaker 5: gathered all of those photo slides, carousels, movies and all.
- 39:17Speaker 1: If our listeners want to check out that article from
- 39:19Speaker 1: Michael Leikey, they can actually find that. There's a link
- 39:23Speaker 1: on the front page of our website where they can
- 39:25Speaker 1: go through and read about his experience of having to
- 39:29Speaker 1: find this as a service and what needed to be done.
- 39:32Speaker 1: And I think most people, Mitch, they find out that
- 39:36Speaker 1: it is super easy that you take a lot of
- 39:38Speaker 1: that work out of it. Because there are people that
- 39:41Speaker 1: will say, oh, I've bought myself a scanner, right, you know,
- 39:45Speaker 1: one came with the printer, and they they will think, okay,
- 39:48Speaker 1: I'll start doing this, But there's a lot more that
- 39:50Speaker 1: goes into that.
- 39:52Speaker 5: There is you know, you could purchase a do it
- 39:55Speaker 5: yourself scanner. You know you're out hundreds of dollars before
- 39:59Speaker 5: digitizing your friend first photo. But for me, my passion
- 40:03Speaker 5: has always been about helping people preserve their memories. And
- 40:06Speaker 5: competition's great, it helps raise the tide of awareness for it.
- 40:11Speaker 5: But what we did remember the old Kodak motto, you
- 40:15Speaker 5: press the button, we do the rest. Yes, yes, right right,
- 40:19Speaker 5: And that's that's what we did at scanmyphotos dot com,
- 40:24Speaker 5: where all you do is you go to the website,
- 40:27Speaker 5: click whatever you want, any product, and send us all
- 40:32Speaker 5: of that it's digitized. But what we're excuse me, what's
- 40:36Speaker 5: crazy now is we have scan fast, which is same
- 40:41Speaker 5: day scanning, and people need that from memorial services for
- 40:44Speaker 5: any and every reason. So your entire order is completed
- 40:48Speaker 5: the same day and it's uploaded to your inbox to say.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Oh wow, the same day, so somebody is able to
- 40:55Speaker 1: get you the photos. They've got it on this Suddenly,
- 40:58Speaker 1: remember we've got a memorial service. We want to have,
- 41:01Speaker 1: you know, a presentation that is in the background while
- 41:04Speaker 1: we're you know, being prepared for speeches and you know, eulogies.
- 41:10Speaker 1: This could be running in the back. They can get
- 41:12Speaker 1: that to you in the morning and still have it
- 41:13Speaker 1: by later that day for them to or in the evening.
- 41:17Speaker 5: That's it. Well, yeah, we did it for CBS News
- 41:21Speaker 5: Correspondence was had the coolest project. He too, like everyone else,
- 41:25Speaker 5: discovered it was about one hundred boxes, so he sent
- 41:29Speaker 5: them to us. It was done the same day. He
- 41:31Speaker 5: got it that night, and he actually reached out and
- 41:34Speaker 5: thought that there was a problem because he got an
- 41:36Speaker 5: email and was wondering what happened. I had explained to
- 41:40Speaker 5: them that click. They clicked, and John Dunn responsors, it's
- 41:46Speaker 5: all done, and he flew out to surprise his mom.
- 41:49Speaker 5: It was a big family reunion. They did just that.
- 41:51Speaker 5: They did a giant screen and they showed the entire
- 41:55Speaker 5: what do you buy a parent that's ninety You can't.
- 41:59Speaker 5: This is what you can buy them.
- 42:01Speaker 1: The memories, Yeah, the memories being able to see them again.
- 42:04Speaker 1: And for the entire family. It used to be you
- 42:07Speaker 1: would sit down with, you know, the grandparents, because I
- 42:09Speaker 1: remember sitting with my grandma, Grandma Francis, and she had
- 42:13Speaker 1: the photo album and she would show me pictures of
- 42:16Speaker 1: you know, the house in Burma and the Governor's ball
- 42:19Speaker 1: that they went to. I am thinking now, these photos
- 42:24Speaker 1: and here's the deal, Mitch. We've seen over the years,
- 42:26Speaker 1: photos have changed in size and shape and look. And
- 42:30Speaker 1: it used to be you could have a photo of
- 42:32Speaker 1: the size of a postage stamp and that would be
- 42:34Speaker 1: okay for some, but for older eyes that might be
- 42:38Speaker 1: difficult to see. Can you take some of these small
- 42:41Speaker 1: photos that are the size of like two postage stamps
- 42:45Speaker 1: and increase them in size so they're easier to see.
- 42:48Speaker 5: That's a great question. Absolutely, And that's what scam my
- 42:51Speaker 5: Photos is all about because they're traditional JPEG files, so
- 42:56Speaker 5: you can watch all of them on a giant screen television.
- 43:01Speaker 5: But what a lot of people are doing now because
- 43:03Speaker 5: we're content providers for every photo sharing app, whether it's Instagram, Facebook, Snap, threads, now,
- 43:11Speaker 5: TikTok x, all of that snap where people are just
- 43:16Speaker 5: uploading their recent pictures from their smartphone, their camera roll
- 43:20Speaker 5: of if they're like me, you know, like the food
- 43:23Speaker 5: you ate last night, but not those nostalgic decades past
- 43:28Speaker 5: pictures that have so many amazing stories behind it that
- 43:33Speaker 5: you need to share and narrate and explain who's in it,
- 43:36Speaker 5: what they're doing, where you were.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Now, how are these collated? So somebody maybe listening right
- 43:42Speaker 1: now has a box of photos and they're looking at
- 43:45Speaker 1: them right out going. I keep saying, I'm going to
- 43:47Speaker 1: attack it. That's that procrastination. They get it to you,
- 43:51Speaker 1: all right? What is this process for getting them to you?
- 43:55Speaker 1: Number one? And getting them back?
- 43:57Speaker 5: Sure, the easiest one. The most popular services are the
- 44:00Speaker 5: prepaid fill the box service. So for photos, it holds
- 44:03Speaker 5: about two thousand pictures as little is like two hundred
- 44:06Speaker 5: and twenty dollars and everything. Scan shippings included all of
- 44:11Speaker 5: that and to prepare it, bundle it in piles stacks
- 44:17Speaker 5: of about one hundred or so. Use an index card
- 44:21Speaker 5: and write down what the topic is, what the theme,
- 44:23Speaker 5: the birthday, anniversary, special event, holiday and just put a
- 44:27Speaker 5: rubber band around those and choose scan in order, so
- 44:32Speaker 5: the index card with your message is on it. And
- 44:34Speaker 5: we could even scan the back of photos if there's
- 44:36Speaker 5: handwritten messages, and then you get it back now. And
- 44:40Speaker 5: here's the really cool thing because once you get everything back,
- 44:45Speaker 5: people upload it to services like Google Photos, and then
- 44:50Speaker 5: it's on your phone. And at the very bottom of
- 44:53Speaker 5: Google Photos on the lower right is a little magnifying glass,
- 44:58Speaker 5: so you could type in car, dog, each anything you want,
- 45:03Speaker 5: and it's going to use its image recognition tools to
- 45:08Speaker 5: sort and categorize all of those topics. At a man,
- 45:13Speaker 5: if you click on a picture of a parent relative,
- 45:17Speaker 5: it will find all the other similar ones. So basically
- 45:21Speaker 5: they do the magic. But the challenge is how do
- 45:24Speaker 5: you get not just one or two, but thousands, tens
- 45:28Speaker 5: of thousands of those pictures and slides negatives done so
- 45:32Speaker 5: that that's where scanned my photos comes in.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Now, Mitch, I know for a fact that you're not
- 45:38Speaker 1: sitting there at a machine lifting the cover of the
- 45:41Speaker 1: head scanner putting a photo down, and that's not how
- 45:44Speaker 1: you operate. Over the years, and like you said, thirty years,
- 45:47Speaker 1: you and Carl have been doing this. This is amazing
- 45:51Speaker 1: because you have invested in top quality machinery and imaging
- 45:56Speaker 1: equipment to get this done, to give you that best look.
- 45:59Speaker 5: Indeed, and Carl and I pioneered this service, were the
- 46:02Speaker 5: only ones in the world that have this technology, and
- 46:05Speaker 5: it is insane. So for photos, we digitize one thousand
- 46:09Speaker 5: photos in five minutes. For slides, now each thirty five
- 46:15Speaker 5: millimeters mounted slide is scanned one every second. And way
- 46:21Speaker 5: back in two thousand and eight, there was a reporter
- 46:24Speaker 5: for the New York Times that I've reached out to
- 46:28Speaker 5: and I explained that we could scan photos that fast.
- 46:32Speaker 5: They said, I don't believe it, and we showed them
- 46:34Speaker 5: what it does, and two weeks later it was the
- 46:37Speaker 5: feature article on Scan my Photos in the New York
- 46:41Speaker 5: Times and that's what really put us on the map.
- 46:44Speaker 2: That is great.
- 46:45Speaker 1: I love it. And this article from AP also is great.
- 46:47Speaker 1: And once again you can find that at tech talk
- 46:49Speaker 1: radio dot com. If our listeners want to find out
- 46:52Speaker 1: more Mitch about the service, what's the best thing for
- 46:55Speaker 1: them to do?
- 46:57Speaker 5: Sure, just go to Scan my Photos and at the
- 47:01Speaker 5: very top there's a blue crawl with a message about
- 47:04Speaker 5: the Associated Press article and the quote from the reporter
- 47:10Speaker 5: that all five people profiled, including the reporter, had a
- 47:14Speaker 5: great experience with Scanned my Photos. And most importantly right
- 47:18Speaker 5: afterwards is that promo code that everyone loves. It's AP
- 47:24Speaker 5: as an Sociated Press AP twenty and you just type
- 47:28Speaker 5: that in at checkout. But to handle everything, just scan
- 47:31Speaker 5: myphotos dot com super easy. We have support. Everyone here
- 47:36Speaker 5: is just so passionate about helping the nation preserve all
- 47:39Speaker 5: their memories.
- 47:41Speaker 1: I know that having you know, a one stop shop
- 47:43Speaker 1: for doing this, whether it be small photos, large photos,
- 47:47Speaker 1: you do it all. I do know that there are listeners,
- 47:49Speaker 1: and I've had listeners that have asked me in the
- 47:51Speaker 1: past that have been very happy with your service but
- 47:54Speaker 1: want to do their Super eight films or even let's
- 47:58Speaker 1: go back even further before Super eight, believe it or not,
- 48:00Speaker 1: they were shooting that's sixteen millimeter. Is that something that
- 48:04Speaker 1: you are are doing or something you've kind of looked at?
- 48:09Speaker 5: We do, and on the website we'll see all the
- 48:12Speaker 5: different services for eight millimeter sixteen millimeter. What's really cool
- 48:17Speaker 5: about our technology though, is we don't just scan the
- 48:22Speaker 5: reels of eight millimeter film. It's individually digitized every frame.
- 48:28Speaker 5: So what that means is as you're watching it, you
- 48:32Speaker 5: could stop it, pause it, and that image is crystal clear,
- 48:36Speaker 5: sharp digitized, so it's not doing it the old fashioned way.
- 48:41Speaker 5: So that's a really important feature for it, especially for
- 48:46Speaker 5: everyone has the eight millimeter boxes and those little boxes
- 48:51Speaker 5: of movie film, but they're just sitting and they're starting
- 48:55Speaker 5: to fade away if they're stored in an attic where
- 48:58Speaker 5: you have heat, milk, do all garage, basement, all those
- 49:03Speaker 5: memories are being fading away.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Well, we've and we've had you know, people that have downsized,
- 49:09Speaker 1: especially here in Green Valley. They'll downsize and maybe move
- 49:13Speaker 1: into you know, whether it be assisted living or you know,
- 49:18Speaker 1: living independently, but they don't have as much space maybe
- 49:21Speaker 1: they had, so they put stuff in storage for photos.
- 49:24Speaker 1: This could actually not be a good thing.
- 49:28Speaker 5: It's not beyond all those issues. The others are of
- 49:35Speaker 5: course natural disasters, and it's so emotional when we hear
- 49:39Speaker 5: stories from people that lost everything from an earthquake, fire, flood, hurricane,
- 49:45Speaker 5: all of that water damage, smoke damage, and there are
- 49:50Speaker 5: no copies. But Andy, your listeners are really smart techies also,
- 49:54Speaker 5: so they know the importance. Once you get everything back.
- 49:58Speaker 5: It's on data disk akigabyte thumb drive for the instant upload.
- 50:03Speaker 5: Please please please make backups, store them in the cloud
- 50:08Speaker 5: Google Photos and give them to friends relative safety deposit box.
- 50:13Speaker 5: There these files aren't locked. You have full access, so
- 50:17Speaker 5: you can make as many copies as you want, but
- 50:20Speaker 5: keep them off site. We've heard from people who had
- 50:23Speaker 5: us digitize everything. All the photos were destroyed as well
- 50:28Speaker 5: as the work we did. So now we have a
- 50:32Speaker 5: backup services as well, which is kind of cool. Where
- 50:36Speaker 5: people say I lost everything, we press a button and
- 50:40Speaker 5: they get everything saved and sent to them.
- 50:43Speaker 1: I love that. Once again, scam my photos. Mitch always
- 50:46Speaker 1: always great to talk to you, and you know, if
- 50:48Speaker 1: you're looking for the gift for the holidays, this could
- 50:51Speaker 1: make a great gift for somebody to be able to
- 50:53Speaker 1: take those images and give them a presentation.
- 50:58Speaker 5: Indeed, and of course on the website one of the
- 51:02Speaker 5: popular ones, especially during the holidays when you don't know
- 51:05Speaker 5: what to give and you don't want to do the
- 51:07Speaker 5: normal standard gifts that that really don't have any emotion.
- 51:12Speaker 5: Just click on the e gift certificates, order them. Everyone
- 51:16Speaker 5: gets them instantly, write a customized message and all your
- 51:21Speaker 5: relatives then can place orders and they just type in
- 51:25Speaker 5: the code they get so it's all automated. But the
- 51:27Speaker 5: e gift cards are biggest during the holidays.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Well, once again, Mitchell, it's great to talk to you again.
- 51:35Speaker 1: We look forward to talking to you again into the
- 51:37Speaker 1: new year. And it's an amazing service.
- 51:39Speaker 5: Thanks Ay you are you are the best, and you
- 51:40Speaker 5: are the amazing service. But if you make us all
- 51:43Speaker 5: so much smarter, thank you.
- 51:45Speaker 1: I will be back with more of tech Talk Radio
- 51:49Speaker 1: and now fact to tech Talk Radio, wise Guy reporting
- 51:52Speaker 1: in Oh, wise Guy, he's the wise guy.
- 51:57Speaker 3: New video doorbell video doorbell version two.
- 52:00Speaker 1: Oh all right.
- 52:01Speaker 3: It is a two K camera with local Microwest storage,
- 52:05Speaker 3: which the first video doorbell didn't have. I have the
- 52:09Speaker 3: first video doorbell, and I will say that I'm not
- 52:12Speaker 3: going to get this one.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Why no, Why wouldn't you get it?
- 52:14Speaker 3: Because it will nullify my current video door broll, which
- 52:18Speaker 3: works just fine and I'm super happy with it, and
- 52:20Speaker 3: I would have to buy new chimes. This one will
- 52:23Speaker 3: work with your existing chime. It includes the transformer that
- 52:26Speaker 3: you put into your existing chime that will trigger your
- 52:28Speaker 3: original existing chime. If you have a house that was
