- 2:11Speaker 6: basketball tournament gets underway at the Coliseum tomorrow. Of course,
- 2:15Speaker 6: we're celebrating the two year anniversary of our sister station
- 2:18Speaker 6: ninety eight seven of the Mountain tonight at Bar one
- 2:20Speaker 6: on one. So I figured we just killed two birds
- 2:23Speaker 6: with one stone. Here Steve Animal from the Mountain is
- 2:25Speaker 6: in studio with me. Mister Animal, good morning, Good morning,
- 2:29Speaker 6: and we have the coach of they heard that team,
- 2:32Speaker 6: Aunt Elmore with us on the phone. Coach Elmore, welcome
- 2:35Speaker 6: to the show.
- 2:36Speaker 7: Okay, thanks for having me. Glad to be here.
- 2:38Speaker 6: I hope you don't mind sharing the time with Steve
- 2:42Speaker 6: Animal from our sister station.
- 2:43Speaker 4: Coach.
- 2:44Speaker 7: No, I don't mind at all.
- 2:46Speaker 6: Well, if you knew him, well you'd mind, trust me,
- 2:48Speaker 6: Trust me, you would.
- 2:49Speaker 3: You can come over for our anniversary party if you
- 2:52Speaker 3: have a minute at Bar one oh one later on
- 2:53Speaker 3: this evening at six.
- 2:55Speaker 6: Because I'm sure he's gotten it's gonna say he's got
- 2:58Speaker 6: nothing else going on over the next couple of days.
- 3:00Speaker 6: But if you get an opportunity and Steve and I
- 3:02Speaker 6: go talk about that a little bit later on Coach,
- 3:04Speaker 6: Welcome to the show. Tell us about this heard that team?
- 3:08Speaker 7: Yeah, they heard that team should look familiar to Marshall fans.
- 3:11Speaker 7: Everybody on it this year has played with us in
- 3:13Speaker 7: the past. We're excited. We have a really good roster
- 3:17Speaker 7: and I think we have a chance to make some
- 3:18Speaker 7: noise in this tournament.
- 3:19Speaker 6: Who are some of the names people would recognize on
- 3:22Speaker 6: the team.
- 3:22Speaker 7: Well, we have some former Marshall guys, my brother, John Elmore,
- 3:26Speaker 7: Tavarn Kenzie, the two leading scorers in the history of Marshall.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Right there.
- 3:30Speaker 7: Steve Browning played at Marshall from Logan. Rondell Watson played
- 3:33Speaker 7: at Marshall from Greenbrier East. So we have a lot
- 3:38Speaker 7: of Marshall guys on the team. Then we have some
- 3:40Speaker 7: familiar faces like JA Cory Williams, JP Tokoto, Derek Cook
- 3:44Speaker 7: and some of the guys that played with us in
- 3:45Speaker 7: the past as well. So it should be a fun
- 3:48Speaker 7: team to come out and root on.
- 3:50Speaker 6: How's practice been going so far?
- 3:51Speaker 7: Coach, practice has been good. The only problem is, you know, John,
- 3:55Speaker 7: my brother and Tavon Kenzie are both in the NBA
- 3:57Speaker 7: Summer League and their team just happened to go four
- 4:00Speaker 7: and oh, so they play in the semi finals Friday
- 4:03Speaker 7: night or not Friday night with Saturday we play Friday night,
- 4:06Speaker 7: so we might not get them back till the second game.
- 4:08Speaker 7: But outside of that, the guys are locked in.
- 4:11Speaker 6: Talk about what it's like. And I had the coach
- 4:14Speaker 6: of Best Virginia, Jared West, on the show yesterday and
- 4:17Speaker 6: talk about what it's like when you know, this is
- 4:19Speaker 6: not like a traditional league or like traditional college or
- 4:23Speaker 6: the NBA. When you have a team that's together all
- 4:25Speaker 6: the time and you're lifting weights during the off season
- 4:28Speaker 6: doing all these things, I mean you kind of you're
- 4:31Speaker 6: kind of on a tight window here. I mean to
- 4:34Speaker 6: get all of these players in here, get the game
- 4:36Speaker 6: plan worked out. Talk about that a little bit.
- 4:39Speaker 7: No, you're absolutely right, it's different. This is you know,
- 4:42Speaker 7: you're playing for a million dollars, but you get guys
- 4:44Speaker 7: in you know maybe on a Monday, you got to
- 4:46Speaker 7: turn around play Friday. You know, during the year, they're
- 4:49Speaker 7: off with their professional teams, so you know, you don't
- 4:51Speaker 7: see them, you don't get a work on anything. So really,
- 4:53Speaker 7: you know, between Monday and Friday. We've just worked on
- 4:55Speaker 7: building a little bit of team chemistry, getting everybody used
- 4:58Speaker 7: to each other again. And you know, we don't over coach,
- 5:01Speaker 7: we don't put into many plays. The main thing is
- 5:03Speaker 7: get the guys you know, comfortable with each other and
- 5:05Speaker 7: then just let them do what they do.
- 5:07Speaker 6: And of course I do want to mention that we
- 5:09Speaker 6: want everybody to show up in person, but we are
- 5:11Speaker 6: going to broadcast those games of the TBT the Best
- 5:14Speaker 6: Virginia and I heard that game, so we're certainly looking.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Forward to that.
- 5:17Speaker 6: Talk about this rivalry with with with Best Virginia. I
- 5:21Speaker 6: know you're focusing on other teams, but let's just let's
- 5:23Speaker 6: just cut right to it, this rivalry with Best Virginia.
- 5:27Speaker 7: Yeah, if we get to play them, that means we
- 5:28Speaker 7: took care of business on Friday in the tournament. We're
- 5:32Speaker 7: one and one against each other. They beat us one
- 5:34Speaker 7: year in Charleston and then a couple of years ago
- 5:36Speaker 7: we beat them in Wheeling, so it would be the
- 5:39Speaker 7: rubber match of our TBT rivalry. The teams have both changed.
- 5:43Speaker 7: In fact, they've stole one of our Marshall guys playing
- 5:46Speaker 7: with them. Big loss for us, but no, hopefully we
- 5:50Speaker 7: just get the opportunity to play each other. That means
- 5:51Speaker 7: we both want.
- 5:52Speaker 6: What is it that the fans so enjoy about the TBT, Coach?
- 5:57Speaker 7: I think the fans enjoy the fact that, you know,
- 6:00Speaker 7: some of the stars of you know, yesteryear for both
- 6:02Speaker 7: of their schools are back and you know you get
- 6:04Speaker 7: to come watch them and support them one more time.
- 6:06Speaker 7: I know, you know, with John and Tabon both had
- 6:09Speaker 7: you know, huge careers at Marshall, fans get to come
- 6:12Speaker 7: watch them and support them one more time. And the
- 6:14Speaker 7: Kelly Green you know, same with West Virginia, the John
- 6:17Speaker 7: Flowers and in that final fourteen, you know a couple
- 6:19Speaker 7: of those guys are still kicking around. Fans, you know,
- 6:22Speaker 7: fell in love with that iteration of Mountaineer basketball and
- 6:25Speaker 7: get it come support it one more time?
- 6:27Speaker 6: All right, coach, Well, we'll be in attendance and we
- 6:29Speaker 6: certainly do wish you the best of luck in the tournament.
- 6:32Speaker 6: Have a great tournam and hope you hope you take
- 6:33Speaker 6: home that million dollars.
- 6:35Speaker 7: Thank you, and I'll see all over there all right,
- 6:37Speaker 7: thank you?
- 6:37Speaker 6: Shelling me the money, coach, Don Elmore. It's nine to fourteen,
- 6:41Speaker 6: but Dave Violance showing five any Live is Brown to

- 6:52Speaker 6: Me and You Steve Animal from our sister station ninety
- 6:55Speaker 6: eight to seven of the Mountain is here. Yes, I'm
- 6:58Speaker 6: turning the microphones off. I control that phones.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Did I hit it?
- 7:01Speaker 2: You?
- 7:01Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 7:01Speaker 6: I know, set your you set your your bag phone
- 7:04Speaker 6: there on top of the top of the top of
- 7:07Speaker 6: the microphone. And to still have a bag, I know
- 7:09Speaker 6: you do a filing cabinet. Actually, all right, So we
- 7:14Speaker 6: launched the Mountain two years ago and uh, West Virginia
- 7:18Speaker 6: has never been quite the same.
- 7:20Speaker 3: No, And we've had a ball and we've got to
- 7:22Speaker 3: thank everyone for all the support. It's been amazing. What
- 7:26Speaker 3: an amazing ride. Uh to be welcomed, to appreciated, uh,
- 7:30Speaker 3: you know, even loved a little bit.
- 7:32Speaker 6: West Virginia Broadcaster as Broadcasters Association Rock Station of the Year.
- 7:38Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 7:39Speaker 6: I mean when we were at the we're here in
- 7:43Speaker 6: Charleston and when that was announced and you know, it
- 7:46Speaker 6: was kind of funny because you and I weren't sitting
- 7:50Speaker 6: at the same table because we're not allowed in public together.
- 7:52Speaker 6: You have to sit on the other end of the room.
- 7:54Speaker 6: Our wives make sure that you and I are not
- 7:55Speaker 6: together in public. But when they made that announcement that
- 7:58Speaker 6: we had one rock station the year, I mean, I
- 8:01Speaker 6: was like, Steve, is this right?
- 8:03Speaker 3: Yeah? Am I hearing this correctly? Looked at her, I
- 8:07Speaker 3: went holy, oh easy. I look at Joe and holy yeah.
- 8:11Speaker 3: I was like, holy yeah.
- 8:12Speaker 6: We actually want, actually want. But it has been a
- 8:15Speaker 6: great ride, you know for the last couple of years,
- 8:18Speaker 6: and uh, you know, being Charleston's only full time classic
- 8:22Speaker 6: rock station, that's.
- 8:23Speaker 8: What we do.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Charleston's only live and local morning radio show. Yeah, there
- 8:27Speaker 3: you go, that guy that does the morning show.
- 8:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, but I mean, you've been doing this
- 8:31Speaker 6: for like, you know, seventy nine eighty years. What is
- 8:36Speaker 6: it that that appealed to you about doing this? Because
- 8:39Speaker 6: you know, you're very successful in other of the walks
- 8:41Speaker 6: of life. He's coach T's your realty company, the circums,
- 8:46Speaker 6: gardens on your only fans, So you've got all these
- 8:49Speaker 6: different things going on out there. Why would you want
- 8:51Speaker 6: to come and get up at five am or four
- 8:53Speaker 6: am to come and do a radio show the love
- 8:55Speaker 6: of radio.
- 8:56Speaker 3: And I think when we were talking about the Marshall
- 8:59Speaker 3: Universityquarterback Club of Charleston's Valentine's Day dinner dance two and
- 9:03Speaker 3: a half years ago, prior to I know that there
- 9:07Speaker 3: was just a buzz, even Woody, you know, and you
- 9:10Speaker 3: were both instrumental, and hey, we got to get this
- 9:13Speaker 3: guy back on the radio.
- 9:14Speaker 6: So we had the corporate heads here had the idea
- 9:17Speaker 6: for the rock station, and they thought they considered going
- 9:20Speaker 6: in a different direction because they didn't know that you
- 9:24Speaker 6: would would be interesting because there was only so many
- 9:26Speaker 6: hours in the day. Yes, and so I started working.
- 9:29Speaker 6: I think I even took you to lunch. They did, well, no,
- 9:32Speaker 6: I took you to lunch myself.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Food.
- 9:35Speaker 6: Woody would started to you know, put a little bug
- 9:37Speaker 6: in your ear and crash and other people and well,
- 9:41Speaker 6: here we.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Are, I know, two years down the road. So yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 3: it's been fun, very appreciative and grateful for the opportunity.
- 9:47Speaker 3: And yeah, they gotten up at fours sometimes like what
- 9:50Speaker 3: the heck was I thing? But yeah, it's worked out.
- 9:54Speaker 3: It's been a ball and we're going to still continue
- 9:56Speaker 3: to have fun and do what we do. And it's
- 9:59Speaker 3: nice a waste us away from you know, all the
- 10:02Speaker 3: news and everything else. If you need an escape patch,
- 10:05Speaker 3: pull it, push the button ninety eighty seven and rock
- 10:08Speaker 3: out with us. Yeah.
- 10:09Speaker 6: Absolutely, And if you listen to us in your car,
- 10:12Speaker 6: you can download the app and listen to us where
- 10:14Speaker 6: wherever you want. That's one of the that's one of
- 10:16Speaker 6: the things that's changed about radio since you and I
- 10:18Speaker 6: first got into it is literally, I mean, you can
- 10:20Speaker 6: listen anywhere in the world.
- 10:22Speaker 3: You run the world and nationwide, yes, yes, which is
- 10:25Speaker 3: pretty sweet. And yeah, I know people have taken it
- 10:28Speaker 3: on vacation. Brother Guy from Shuckers, he was down in
- 10:32Speaker 3: Myrtle Beach. He was listening on the app in the morning,
- 10:35Speaker 3: So it's kind of cool.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Well, I mean, one of our regular listeners and textures
- 10:39Speaker 6: of the show here is in Florida. Because every time
- 10:41Speaker 6: they text me, they remind me that they're in Florida.
- 10:43Speaker 6: I don't know who the person is, but they always
- 10:45Speaker 6: say Florida guy here. So I do appreciate that. So
- 10:48Speaker 6: we're gonna have a party tonight at Bar one on
- 10:50Speaker 6: one on Capitol Street. Now normally a couple times a
- 10:52Speaker 6: month we do a live broadcast on the mountain from
- 10:55Speaker 6: Bar one. It just happened to line up perfectly this
- 10:57Speaker 6: year that this is the actual anniverse had this. So
- 11:01Speaker 6: we'll be down there tonight starting at six. We'll have
- 11:03Speaker 6: ca we got. Did we arrange to have the cake?
- 11:06Speaker 9: Yes?
- 11:06Speaker 3: Okay, all right, dude, just made it happen.
- 11:09Speaker 6: I mean, it's probably gonna say because knowing the budget
- 11:11Speaker 6: we have on the mountain, it's probably going to say
- 11:13Speaker 6: something like happy birthday, Myrtle or something on it. But
- 11:16Speaker 6: that's okay, we'll take it. It's two days old, we'll
- 11:18Speaker 6: take it.
- 11:18Speaker 3: We have actually captured a hostess cupcake and have divided
- 11:21Speaker 3: it into sixteenth it's amazing.
- 11:25Speaker 6: Past past byke. But so we'll see everybody down there
- 11:29Speaker 6: to night, six o'clock at Bar one on one on
- 11:31Speaker 6: Capitol Street. Of course they got that great Bar one
- 11:33Speaker 6: on one special that we talk about every time.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Yes, cheeseburger, fries and an ice cold draft. It's only
- 11:38Speaker 3: fifteen bucks. It is the best deal. Intent it's a
- 11:40Speaker 3: great burger too. It's greaty, it's a great burger too.
- 11:43Speaker 3: And we'll have some mountain gear all supplies lands to
- 11:45Speaker 3: give away some stuff. East Coast T's was actually pressing
- 11:48Speaker 3: some Mountain shirts yesterday. All right, make it happen for
- 11:52Speaker 3: the anniversary.
- 11:53Speaker 4: All right.
- 11:53Speaker 6: And of course we had so many things going on.
- 11:56Speaker 6: If you haven't checked out Steve in the morning, because
- 11:58Speaker 6: it's difficult to keep up with all the because you're
- 12:00Speaker 6: giving away. You've been giving away TBT tickets yep. Every Monday.
- 12:04Speaker 6: You do a thing where you go into the to
- 12:07Speaker 6: the Random Crap Prize closet courtesy of the folks at
- 12:10Speaker 6: Freedome yep, where you just dig up.
- 12:12Speaker 3: All kinds of whatever I want to get my hands on.
- 12:14Speaker 3: I've even taken stuff off your desk and given it away, so.
- 12:17Speaker 6: Yeah, I know, I realized that. So you got that
- 12:21Speaker 6: going on. You give away breakfast from Tutors, and of
- 12:25Speaker 6: course we've got this big promotion that all of our
- 12:27Speaker 6: stations are doing well. We're going to give away this
- 12:29Speaker 6: new bike courtesy of the folks at Trojan Landing and
- 12:32Speaker 6: a thousand bucks in cash, and all of our stations
- 12:35Speaker 6: are involved in that with riding riches, so having a
- 12:38Speaker 6: lot of fun. If you like classic rock, be sure
- 12:39Speaker 6: and check out Steve Animal in the mornings. We got
- 12:43Speaker 6: Jeff Snyder ten to three, Amy Ryan three to seven,
- 12:46Speaker 6: Steve Gorman rocks after that, and then Shockley makes an
- 12:50Speaker 6: appearance from time to time.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Yes he does.
- 12:52Speaker 6: Is he in town? Is going to be there tonight.
- 12:54Speaker 3: He is going to be downtown. So if you'd like
- 12:56Speaker 3: to see Shockley and all his hair and his glory,
- 12:59Speaker 3: he'll be.
- 12:59Speaker 6: There, Hollywood. Jeff Petty, you know, one of our weekend warriors.
- 13:02Speaker 6: On the weekend, I hang out there on Sunday's noon
- 13:04Speaker 6: to seven and take care of the social media. So
- 13:07Speaker 6: and by the way, I will give a plug in
- 13:08Speaker 6: for the Mountain Facebook page. We're gonna head on over there.
- 13:13Speaker 6: We put up about seventy some pictures for our first
- 13:16Speaker 6: two years that are posted on there, So if you
- 13:18Speaker 6: want to see all the fun and the shenanigans that
- 13:20Speaker 6: we have, go check that out. Steve, congratulations, and we'll
- 13:26Speaker 6: celebrate tonight at Bar one oh one on Capitol Street
- 13:28Speaker 6: started at six o'clock the two year anniversary of ninety
- 13:31Speaker 6: eight seven A Mountain, wild and wonderful classic round.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Looking forward to seeing you there.
- 13:34Speaker 10: Brother.
- 13:35Speaker 3: All right, I'm on out. Who's ever listening, Come on out,
- 13:37Speaker 3: We got a party.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Go.

- 13:39Speaker 6: All right, we're going to take a break. We got

- 16:44Speaker 12: Good morning, Dave. I'm turrific. How are you today?
- 16:46Speaker 6: I am doing fine. Before we get into the stuff
- 16:48Speaker 6: here at the school on at Bridge Valley, I do
- 16:50Speaker 6: want to go ahead and send the invite out at
- 16:51Speaker 6: Steve Animal. You're a good friend of mine on just
- 16:54Speaker 6: a moment ago, and this is the two year anniversary
- 16:57Speaker 6: of our sister station ninety eight seven a Mountain, and
- 17:00Speaker 6: tonight we got a party going on at Bar one
- 17:02Speaker 6: on one on Capitol Street. We'll start about six o'clock.
- 17:04Speaker 6: So if you are available and you are around, I
- 17:07Speaker 6: want to let you and your staff know we'd love
- 17:09Speaker 6: to have you to come down to Bar one on
- 17:10Speaker 6: one tonight and.
- 17:12Speaker 12: We'd love that. Thank you so much for the invitation.
- 17:15Speaker 12: I hope all the listeners come too.
- 17:17Speaker 6: I hope that they do as well. So you have
- 17:20Speaker 6: the official invite. We'll even save a piece of cake
- 17:22Speaker 6: for you.
- 17:23Speaker 12: How's that good to know. Thank you?
- 17:25Speaker 4: All right?
- 17:25Speaker 6: So you got registration going on for next round of classes, right,
- 17:28Speaker 6: we do.
- 17:29Speaker 12: We're trying to make sure folks know that you can
- 17:31Speaker 12: register all the way up until August eleventh. We would
- 17:33Speaker 12: love to have you. If you're thinking about changing your
- 17:36Speaker 12: life or changing your career. Bridge Valley is a really
- 17:39Speaker 12: great place to start.
- 17:40Speaker 6: So what's the selling point? Why should people do this?
- 17:42Speaker 3: Doctor?
- 17:43Speaker 12: Why should you go to school?
- 17:45Speaker 6: Why should you choose Bridge Valley? Why is the time
- 17:48Speaker 6: to do it?
- 17:49Speaker 12: Oh? So, I think there's no time like the present.
- 17:51Speaker 12: Bridge Valley's really focused on jobs that actually exist right
- 17:55Speaker 12: here in our community. We spend a lot of energy
- 17:58Speaker 12: working with employers in the rejen to make sure that
- 18:01Speaker 12: our classes are really tailored to what it is that
- 18:03Speaker 12: they need. We don't want anybody to end up in
- 18:05Speaker 12: a new job that we've helped prepare them for, where
- 18:08Speaker 12: they show up at work the first day and find
- 18:09Speaker 12: out they need six more months of training. It's very
- 18:12Speaker 12: important to us that you walk into any of our
- 18:15Speaker 12: employers in the region ready to work. And so that's
- 18:17Speaker 12: a lot of what we focus on.
- 18:19Speaker 6: Now understand you're gonna be doing live on the levee,
- 18:22Speaker 6: is that right, is that this week you're doing Live
- 18:23Speaker 6: on the Levee.
- 18:24Speaker 12: It is It's such a fun event. I mean, you know,
- 18:26Speaker 12: you're always out there. Bridge Valley is a proud sponsor.
- 18:30Speaker 12: We sponsor every year and this week is Bridge Valley Night,
- 18:33Speaker 12: So please come out. This is your official invitation. We've
- 18:37Speaker 12: come out Friday night and see us at our booths
- 18:39Speaker 12: at Live on the Levee.
- 18:40Speaker 6: And I think that my coworker in the afternoon, Amanda
- 18:44Speaker 6: Bearon for thirteen News, I think they're going to be
- 18:45Speaker 6: a big part of it as well. So you can
- 18:47Speaker 6: come down and hang out with doctor Sachs and also
- 18:48Speaker 6: hang out with Amanda and all the folks from thirteen
- 18:51Speaker 6: News there as well.
- 18:52Speaker 12: Yeah, they're always a good time.
- 18:54Speaker 6: Yeah, always talking to doctor Casey Sachs of Bridge Valley.
- 18:57Speaker 6: You got some open houses coming up with a couple
- 19:00Speaker 6: different companies, right.
- 19:02Speaker 12: So one of the things we do. We haven't open
- 19:04Speaker 12: house today, Okay today, Marshall Advance Manufacturing and Bridge Valley
- 19:08Speaker 12: have partnered to offer machine tool and so we jointly
- 19:13Speaker 12: talked to companies and found out what people need for
- 19:15Speaker 12: machine tooling. If it's an area that you're interested in
- 19:19Speaker 12: or something that you'd like to learn more about there's
- 19:22Speaker 12: a building on the South Charleston campus over on the
- 19:25Speaker 12: old over at the Tech Park, and we'd love for
- 19:28Speaker 12: you to come out anytime today between twelve and six.
- 19:31Speaker 12: Is an opportunity to just even learn more about machine
- 19:34Speaker 12: tool and it's a joint partnership between Marshall Advanced Manufacturing
- 19:38Speaker 12: and Bridge Valley.
- 19:40Speaker 6: And this company. I mean, this is a very highly
- 19:44Speaker 6: respected company, so people can learn a lot when they
- 19:46Speaker 6: come out there.
- 19:47Speaker 12: Today, we hope. So it's a good way to get
- 19:50Speaker 12: an orientation. And if you've thought, if someone's told you,
- 19:54Speaker 12: or if you know, you really like making things and
- 19:56Speaker 12: maybe this would be a direction you would want to
- 19:58Speaker 12: go with your career, machine tooling my be the right
- 20:00Speaker 12: fit for you. It would be a great opportunity to
- 20:04Speaker 12: come just hear more and see what it's all about.
- 20:06Speaker 6: And it's a growing field, right.
- 20:09Speaker 12: It is a growing field. It's not like one of
- 20:12Speaker 12: the fastest growing fields in America, but it's really steady work.
- 20:16Speaker 12: One of the things that we see in machine tool
- 20:19Speaker 12: and manufacturing is that there's a constant need and the
- 20:22Speaker 12: businesses right now tell us that a lot of their
- 20:24Speaker 12: best people are at that age where they could retire
- 20:27Speaker 12: any day now, and so there's a lot of concern
- 20:29Speaker 12: that we need to start creating and replacing some talent.
- 20:33Speaker 6: Yeah, on the Midday Show a couple of days ago,
- 20:34Speaker 6: I had a woman on who was really pushing women
- 20:38Speaker 6: in the trades, and she talked about that very same thing,
- 20:40Speaker 6: and they do a lot with the getting women more
- 20:43Speaker 6: involved in the trades, and it's exactly what she said.
- 20:45Speaker 6: You know, we're especially in West Virginia being as old
- 20:48Speaker 6: as stated as it is, we got a lot of
- 20:50Speaker 6: folks that are looking at retirement right now. There's going
- 20:51Speaker 6: to be some holes to fill.
- 20:53Speaker 12: That's right. It's a lot of incredible talent that we're
- 20:56Speaker 12: losing in lots of sectors. And so Bridge Valley's trying
- 20:59Speaker 12: to do our heart to make sure that we can
- 21:01Speaker 12: help people understand what those rules are and move into
- 21:04Speaker 12: some of those great jobs.
- 21:05Speaker 6: And what time is the open house today?
- 21:07Speaker 12: It starts at noon and runs until six.
- 21:09Speaker 6: Noodle six over at the Bridge Valley. And I love this.
- 21:13Speaker 6: You had a generous benefactor that wants to pay the
- 21:17Speaker 6: tuition for a student, and the way you described it
- 21:20Speaker 6: to me, it's being called a student that has unique
- 21:24Speaker 6: life challenges.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Talk about that, that's right.
- 21:27Speaker 12: So Gary Begley is one of the saints in our
- 21:30Speaker 12: community and he lost his wife and decided to create
- 21:35Speaker 12: a scholarship in her honor in her memory at Bridge Valley.
- 21:38Speaker 12: It's called the Wave of Scholarship. Her name was Wave
- 21:41Speaker 12: a gene And the idea for the scholarship is that
- 21:45Speaker 12: he's paying all of the tuition for a student every
- 21:47Speaker 12: year in honor of his wife. And so it's really
- 21:51Speaker 12: it's for any program. It's for students interested in anything.
- 21:55Speaker 12: It's thinking about how do I get jobs and how
- 21:57Speaker 12: do I get back into the community. He's giving preferences
- 22:01Speaker 12: to someone who has unique life challenges. That's what he
- 22:04Speaker 12: asked for in his scholarship. So we're excited if one
- 22:07Speaker 12: of many new scholarships that we've opened at the college,
- 22:10Speaker 12: and it's one of those things it's really worth featuring
- 22:13Speaker 12: because it's such a good story.
- 22:15Speaker 6: And how do people learn more about this or apply
- 22:18Speaker 6: for it? How does that work?
- 22:19Speaker 12: So first you apply to Bridge Valley and then once
- 22:22Speaker 12: you're a student, you work with our foundation and there's
- 22:25Speaker 12: lots of different scholarships that students qualify for, but if
- 22:28Speaker 12: this one sounds like a good fit. It's the one
- 22:30Speaker 12: you submit your application for and then the committee that
- 22:33Speaker 12: evaluates scholarship applications reviews what you've said.
- 22:37Speaker 6: And I mean, I love that the way that the
- 22:39Speaker 6: mister Begley phrased that unique life challenges and that could
- 22:42Speaker 6: be a mean a number of things to a number
- 22:44Speaker 6: of different people. But it's really really cool in my
- 22:45Speaker 6: opinion that he wants to do that to honor his
- 22:47Speaker 6: wife's That's fantastic. That's good community stuff right there.
- 22:51Speaker 12: Doctor Sachs, it really is. It's a I think it's
- 22:53Speaker 12: such a nice way to honor her memory, and it's
- 22:56Speaker 12: a great way to help a student who has a
- 22:58Speaker 12: need in our community.
- 22:59Speaker 6: All Right, remind people where they can learn more about
- 23:02Speaker 6: the cool stuff going on at.
- 23:03Speaker 12: Bridge Valley doll at Bridge Valley dot edu.
- 23:06Speaker 6: All right, doctor Casey Saxson, Bridge Valley, appreciate you being here.
- 23:08Speaker 6: We'll take a break and uh, we'll talk to you
- 23:11Speaker 6: soon and we'll we'll tell you well, actually we're not
- 23:13Speaker 6: taking a break yet. I'm taking a break from doctor Sachs.
- 23:15Speaker 6: Doctor sax thanks for being there. I appreciate it.
- 23:17Speaker 12: Thanks, Dave soon.
- 23:19Speaker 6: I'm new here. You're just gonna have to overlook me, Ryan,

- 23:45Speaker 6: noon today. Not sure yet of the status of my coworker,
- 23:47Speaker 6: Amanda Bear, and she's been feeling a little under the weather.
- 23:49Speaker 6: She tried to come in yesterday and she made for
- 23:52Speaker 6: a little bit and then she wasn't you know. She's
- 23:55Speaker 6: not quite up to speed yet. So we'll hope that
- 23:57Speaker 6: she gets better. We'll find out whether she's going to
- 23:59Speaker 6: be here or not. I guess when I walk downstairs today.
- 24:02Speaker 6: But we certainly wish her the best. She's really battling
- 24:05Speaker 6: with some non it's not life threatening healthy issues or
- 24:08Speaker 6: anything like that, of course, you know, just some things
- 24:11Speaker 6: that get us down from time to time, little sinus action,
- 24:15Speaker 6: you know how that goes. But anyway, on the show today,
- 24:18Speaker 6: serious stuff. You're major flooding in the eastern Panhandle last night,
- 24:21Speaker 6: as a matter of fact, it was a lead story
- 24:23Speaker 6: at wv Metronews dot com. Marsha Kavallak is going to
- 24:26Speaker 6: join us to talk about that and just some horrific
- 24:29Speaker 6: pictures being floated around out there. As I said, one
- 24:31Speaker 6: of those is posted as the lead story this morning
- 24:34Speaker 6: at wv metro news dot com. And unfortunately, it looks
- 24:37Speaker 6: like a lot of us, the entire entire area is.
- 24:42Speaker 6: I think there's one section of the state, maybe in
- 24:44Speaker 6: the Greenbrier Valley, maybe that's not under a floodwatch, but
- 24:48Speaker 6: the entire area is under a floodwatch starting at two
- 24:50Speaker 6: o'clock this afternoon, and the meteorologists tell us we could
- 24:53Speaker 6: be looking at the potential for severe storms and heavy
- 24:56Speaker 6: rain over the next several days, literally going into the
- 24:59Speaker 6: middle of next week. And so we are going to
- 25:01Speaker 6: be joined by meteorologist Joe Fitzwater. In addition to Marsha
- 25:05Speaker 6: telling us what happened in the Panhandle, we're going to
- 25:07Speaker 6: talk to Joe Fitzwater about what's going to happen for
- 25:09Speaker 6: all of us around the state of West Virginia. That's
- 25:11Speaker 6: coming up on the show today, plus the battle over
- 25:14Speaker 6: food dies continue. Delegate Evan Warrell out of Cable County
- 25:18Speaker 6: has been one of the people that has really been
- 25:20Speaker 6: in the forefront of that battle. We'll talk to him.
- 25:22Speaker 6: And yesterday on the show introduced you to somebody who
- 25:25Speaker 6: wants to be the new head of the state Republican
- 25:27Speaker 6: Party in West Virginia. There's two three names floating around
- 25:30Speaker 6: out there. They're going to make that decision one week,
- 25:34Speaker 6: I guess from this Saturday at their party convention in Morgantown.
- 25:37Speaker 6: We introduced you to one of those gentlemen yesterday. Well,
- 25:40Speaker 6: there's another guy, pretty familiar name that you may have
- 25:44Speaker 6: heard of. His name is Josh Holstein, is a delegate
- 25:46Speaker 6: out of Boone County and he also wants the job,
- 25:49Speaker 6: and he's going to join us during the two o'clock
- 25:51Speaker 6: hour today on Metro Who's Midday and then after two
- 25:53Speaker 6: thirty it's Open Line West Virginia with your chance to

- 30:31Speaker 6: can hurt you. Big announcement made yesterday Tim Brady from
- 30:34Speaker 6: the Charleston Convention of Visitor Bureaus and Studio. Good morning, Sara,
- 30:37Speaker 6: Welcome to the show.
- 30:38Speaker 17: Good morning Dave. Always a pleasure man, Always.
- 30:40Speaker 6: Pleasure to have you here rocking the Roddy Rowdy Piper
- 30:42Speaker 6: T shirt today. Hot Rod Baby, he said, you are
- 30:45Speaker 6: just throw me. I appreciate that, man, As you know.
- 30:47Speaker 17: You got the Roddy Piper quote in the opening of
- 30:49Speaker 17: the show. Yeah, from the movie They Live. Yeah. So
- 30:52Speaker 17: this morning, when I was picking out what wrestling T
- 30:54Speaker 17: shirt I was gonna wear today, I said, I'm gonna
- 30:56Speaker 17: go with hot Rod for my buddy Dave.
- 30:58Speaker 6: Of course, I you know, recognized the Roddy Piper from
- 31:01Speaker 6: the early eighties. You know, Georgia Championship Wrestling and mid
- 31:05Speaker 6: Atlantic wrestling.
- 31:06Speaker 17: Some of the stuff that he did up in the
- 31:07Speaker 17: Pacific Northwest, up in Portland and the Seattle area early
- 31:10Speaker 17: on in his career is really great stuff.
- 31:13Speaker 6: You have to go back if people haven't seen it,
- 31:15Speaker 6: to watch the interview that he did with Chavo Guerrero
- 31:19Speaker 6: Senior when he busted. This was on live television. He
- 31:23Speaker 6: busted a beer bottle over his head and bled like
- 31:26Speaker 6: a stuck hog on national tele I think that was
- 31:29Speaker 6: in Los Angeles. I think, man, my YouTube search history
- 31:32Speaker 6: is going to be so dude today.
- 31:34Speaker 4: It always is, It.
- 31:35Speaker 17: Always is, it always is. All Right, So big announcement,
- 31:38Speaker 17: the Mountaineers are coming to town. Yep, Mountaineers versus the
- 31:41Speaker 17: Demon Deacons of Wake Forest on December sixth that the
- 31:44Speaker 17: Charleston Coliseum, the Holiday Hoops Classic. That's going to be
- 31:48Speaker 17: a great night of basketball in Charleston. And we're excited
- 31:51Speaker 17: to bring the Mountaineers back to the capital city.
- 31:53Speaker 6: All right. And so, I mean, I was a little
- 31:55Speaker 6: research on this and the Sports department helped me out
- 31:57Speaker 6: with us a little bit. This is the first time
- 31:59Speaker 6: since two thousand and seven that the Mountaineers have played
- 32:02Speaker 6: a team of this caliber in Charleston.
- 32:04Speaker 17: Right, They had some games after that and I think
- 32:06Speaker 17: they played like Western Carolina and somebody like that. But
- 32:10Speaker 17: this is the first big time matchup in quite a
- 32:13Speaker 17: while here in the city of Charleston. And of course
- 32:16Speaker 17: the Demon Deacon's got quite a following.
- 32:18Speaker 4: They do.
- 32:19Speaker 17: And there's history there as well, like some NCAA tournament matchups,
- 32:23Speaker 17: including an overtime thriller and what was at five that
- 32:27Speaker 17: you know, people still talk about. So there's history between
- 32:30Speaker 17: the two teams. There are two storied programs. It couldn't
- 32:34Speaker 17: be a better There couldn't be a better way for
- 32:36Speaker 17: us to really kick off what I think conceptually is
- 32:39Speaker 17: going to be a long term thing in Charleston, and
- 32:42Speaker 17: that is high level basketball early in the season in
- 32:45Speaker 17: the coliseum.
- 32:46Speaker 6: And how did this whole thing come about? I mean,
- 32:48Speaker 6: I think you guys been working on this. I don't
- 32:49Speaker 6: want to get two in the weeds, but how did
- 32:51Speaker 6: this whole thing come about?
- 32:52Speaker 17: Yeah, the promoter, a promoter named the companies called Gazelle.
- 32:58Speaker 17: They put these kind of games together, reached out. They
- 33:01Speaker 17: have a relationship with OVG and Patrick Lahey, the general
- 33:04Speaker 17: manager at the coliseum, and convention Center. So they reached
- 33:07Speaker 17: out conceptually as this something you'd be interested in, and
- 33:10Speaker 17: you know, that was a very quick guess. So then
- 33:12Speaker 17: it came down to, you know, finding the right date,
- 33:14Speaker 17: finding the right matchup, and the matchup for me was
- 33:17Speaker 17: one of the things I was most excited about because,
- 33:19Speaker 17: as you know, and you and I have talked many
- 33:21Speaker 17: times about tourism and visitation to Charleston, and you know,
- 33:24Speaker 17: my sort of philosophies were very data driven. And when
- 33:28Speaker 17: we look at and we just put out our annual
- 33:31Speaker 17: report yesterday, when we look at the top markets where
- 33:34Speaker 17: people visit from our origin markets consistently, Charlotte and Raleig
- 33:39Speaker 17: Durham are in the top five or six, and then
- 33:42Speaker 17: not far below that is Winston Salem. So we're looking
- 33:45Speaker 17: at a storied basketball program from an area where we
- 33:50Speaker 17: have high level visitation. And then you combo that with
- 33:53Speaker 17: Pittsburgh being our number one market for the last couple
- 33:56Speaker 17: of years, which includes the Morgantown area as part of
- 33:59Speaker 17: their DMA, and then other strong markets for US in
- 34:03Speaker 17: state like Wheeling, Parkersburg, Beckley, Bluefield, Clarksburg, Weston, hotbeds of
- 34:07Speaker 17: WVU fans, Charlotte a lot of expatriots that live down there.
- 34:11Speaker 17: So we just look at this conceptually and say, my goodness,
- 34:14Speaker 17: what a great matchup for us from a market standpoint.
- 34:17Speaker 17: So I think we can drive a lot of visitation
- 34:19Speaker 17: because not only do you have that game, but what
- 34:22Speaker 17: better time to visit Charleston than in December because you've
- 34:25Speaker 17: got all this great stuff happening around the holidays. You've
- 34:27Speaker 17: got Light the Night at Gomart Ballpark. Nobody's more excited
- 34:31Speaker 17: about this announcement than Andy Shea at Gomart Ballpark. You've
- 34:34Speaker 17: got Holly Jolly Brawley, You've got weekend activities at Capital Market.
- 34:37Speaker 17: So we're bringing two universities with big followings from markets
- 34:41Speaker 17: that are good for us at a time when there's
- 34:43Speaker 17: a lot of activity. I mean, it's going to be
- 34:45Speaker 17: a home run. I'm sure of it.
- 34:47Speaker 13: Now.
- 34:47Speaker 6: Is this the same weekend as the football championships?
- 34:49Speaker 18: It is?
- 34:50Speaker 17: And I'll address that head on because I just had
- 34:53Speaker 17: a good conversation with my old friend Fred Persinging. I
- 34:56Speaker 17: mean old in the sense that we've known each other
- 34:58Speaker 17: for a long time.
- 35:00Speaker 13: It is.
- 35:00Speaker 17: It's the Saturday of the state high school football championships
- 35:03Speaker 17: that will be the Saturday night, the last night of football.
- 35:08Speaker 17: I will spin this in a positive way and say,
- 35:10Speaker 17: and again something else we've talked about, it's always better
- 35:14Speaker 17: when we can combo things. So I look at it
- 35:17Speaker 17: from the perspective of and if I'm doing the math
- 35:19Speaker 17: right and doing the matchups right. This year, the Saturday
- 35:24Speaker 17: night game would be the Triple A game, which last
- 35:26Speaker 17: year would have been Herbert Hoover and Bridgeport. The game
- 35:29Speaker 17: before that would be Double A, which last year was
- 35:31Speaker 17: Roane County and Frankfort. That would be the Saturday afternoon
- 35:35Speaker 17: game Double A. Friday night would be Single A, which
- 35:38Speaker 17: is last year was East Hardy and Wahama. First game
- 35:42Speaker 17: would be Quada on Friday afternoon. But if you're someone
- 35:45Speaker 17: coming for the Friday night game, or really the Saturday
- 35:47Speaker 17: afternoon game, we're giving you extra incentive to not only come,
- 35:51Speaker 17: but then stay longer. So hypothetically or theoretically, last year,
- 35:57Speaker 17: we would have really marketed hard to the folks from
- 35:59Speaker 17: frank and East Hardy specifically and said, Hey, come to
- 36:02Speaker 17: Charleston and stay for a really great basketball game after
- 36:07Speaker 17: your football game. So I look at it as an
- 36:09Speaker 17: opportunity to engage folks that are already coming in town
- 36:13Speaker 17: or maybe thinking about coming to town for something else
- 36:15Speaker 17: and giving them an additional activity.
- 36:17Speaker 6: I mean, I just it amazes me how much stuff
- 36:21Speaker 6: is we talk about it over and over again, is
- 36:23Speaker 6: going on at one time, and it's and and and
- 36:25Speaker 6: you and I have discussed this back in an old
- 36:28Speaker 6: way of thinking about this would be well, people have
- 36:30Speaker 6: got to pick and choose, and there's something to be
- 36:32Speaker 6: said for that. However, with this, like you said, you
- 36:36Speaker 6: can these folks from out of town, and folks intown
- 36:38Speaker 6: for that matter, too, can come in. They can shop
- 36:40Speaker 6: downtown Charleston, they can go to the restaurants, whatever, they
- 36:43Speaker 6: can go over and see light the night. They can
- 36:45Speaker 6: go to Holly Jolly Browley, uh and take in whatever
- 36:48Speaker 6: football game that they want to and still stick around
- 36:50Speaker 6: for the Mountaineer game.
- 36:51Speaker 10: That's right.
- 36:51Speaker 17: The only the only when we're talking specifically about the
- 36:54Speaker 17: state high school FOOTBA championships, the only game that it
- 36:56Speaker 17: impacts is that last game. And if you're coming, if
- 36:58Speaker 17: you're a if you're a passionate fan of that football program,
- 37:01Speaker 17: you're not going to not go to the football game
- 37:05Speaker 17: and instead go to the WU basketball game. So again,
- 37:07Speaker 17: in the hypothetical world of last year's matchups. The folks
- 37:10Speaker 17: from Hoover and the folks from Bridgeport are still going
- 37:12Speaker 17: to go to that football game, so it's not going
- 37:14Speaker 17: to negatively impact the gate at the state high school
- 37:17Speaker 17: football championships. I think there's an opportunity if we market
- 37:20Speaker 17: this right to increase their gate for the other games
- 37:24Speaker 17: by again marketing to people and saying, hey, if you
- 37:27Speaker 17: come to the game, there's also this going on.
- 37:29Speaker 6: So yeah, I got a brain thrust here. Okay, okay,
- 37:32Speaker 6: let's go. All right, let's go. If they're only there
- 37:35Speaker 6: were a radio network in West Virginia that covered the
- 37:37Speaker 6: entire state that you could advertise on.
- 37:41Speaker 17: You know what, I think that's a great idea. Let's
- 37:44Speaker 17: you and I talk after this and see if we
- 37:46Speaker 17: could put something together. Sounds good, but no, I think,
- 37:49Speaker 17: and all jokes aside. I mean, I think the Metro
- 37:51Speaker 17: News radio network is going to be a huge part
- 37:53Speaker 17: of this for us, you know, carrying Mountain or basketball
- 37:58Speaker 17: on a lot of those stations already anyway, carrying high
- 38:01Speaker 17: school football. I think absolutely without question that that's a
- 38:05Speaker 17: really great opportunity that we have here to talk to
- 38:08Speaker 17: the entire state and beyond.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:11Speaker 17: So yeah, I think Metro News becomes a part of that.
- 38:14Speaker 17: I guess I owe Chris Cleighorn a call, yeah, or
- 38:17Speaker 17: Dave Allen. Okay, I'm kidding. The clagg is the man,
- 38:21Speaker 17: he really really is. Nine to forty five.
- 38:23Speaker 6: Let's talk TBT here real soon, because I've had the
- 38:26Speaker 6: last two days. I've had both coaches on Coach West
- 38:29Speaker 6: and coach Ailmore, and it's about time to put the
- 38:31Speaker 6: ball in the air.
- 38:32Speaker 17: Yeah, games start tomorrow. I was at the Coliseum yesterday.
- 38:35Speaker 17: The building looks great. It's going to be a super
- 38:37Speaker 17: fun environment. Ticket sales are strong. We want to continue
- 38:41Speaker 17: to drive ticket sales because again the model that we
- 38:45Speaker 17: have this year, as teams win and as they sell tickets,
- 38:49Speaker 17: the highest selling ticket markets get to host additional games.
- 38:52Speaker 17: So let's keep the Mountaineers or heard that playing Best
- 38:55Speaker 17: Virginia sorry, or heard that playing in Charleston. So I
- 38:58Speaker 17: think it's going to be great, best fotball, high level basketball.
- 39:02Speaker 17: It's a known quantity now in the community. People have
- 39:04Speaker 17: had a great time the last couple of times they've
- 39:06Speaker 17: played here. I think, you know, great weekend of basketball,
- 39:11Speaker 17: and now we have this big announcement to go along
- 39:13Speaker 17: with it and generate enthusiasm a lot of good stuff.

- 43:10Speaker 3: All right?
- 43:10Speaker 6: So what kind of activities we have with West Virginia
- 43:12Speaker 6: or with National Lottery Day other than just celebrating the lottery.
- 43:17Speaker 12: Every day.
- 43:18Speaker 6: Good good answer. It's David Bradley is the acting director
- 43:21Speaker 6: of the Lottery. Appreciate you being here as well. I
- 43:24Speaker 6: got to ask you. The last time we had you
- 43:26Speaker 6: on the air was during the Metronews midday show and
- 43:29Speaker 6: you told us the story about those There were two
- 43:33Speaker 6: one million dollar tickets out there, two several one million
- 43:36Speaker 6: dollar tickets, one sold at Marty Gras and one sold
- 43:40Speaker 6: at a palm Our location and they had not been claimed.
- 43:43Speaker 6: Has anybody stepped forward on those shows.
- 43:45Speaker 4: No, We're still waiting for the lucky winter to come forward.
- 43:49Speaker 6: So somewhere out there in the in the vast radio land,
- 43:53Speaker 6: there are there, you would think, I guess two people
- 43:56Speaker 6: out there that have tickets in their pockets right here
- 43:58Speaker 6: in the Kanav Valley that are worth a million dollar.
- 44:00Speaker 18: We've got two tickets that one was purchased in March
- 44:05Speaker 18: of this year and the other one was May of
- 44:07Speaker 18: this year, and you have one hundred and eighty days
- 44:09Speaker 18: from the date of the drawing to claim the winnings.
- 44:12Speaker 18: And the first ticket was expires in September September eighth,
- 44:17Speaker 18: twenty twenty five. That was the ticket purchased actually at
- 44:20Speaker 18: the Parmar in.
- 44:21Speaker 6: Hurricane, and that's one in downtown Hurricane and Hurricane Oh yeah, okay,
- 44:25Speaker 6: and then the other one was purchased at Marty Grawn.
- 44:28Speaker 4: It expires November six.
- 44:30Speaker 18: So you know, we're encouraging folks to get out there
- 44:33Speaker 18: and check their purses, check under the car seats.
- 44:36Speaker 3: I said, you laugh, but listen, there's a story on
- 44:39Speaker 3: that story.
- 44:40Speaker 18: We were talking about it coming over here. You know,
- 44:43Speaker 18: while we're encouraging people to check their tickets and look
- 44:45Speaker 18: for them, we had a gentleman who purchased a ticket
- 44:50Speaker 18: and he had lost it and couldn't find it. And
- 44:54Speaker 18: he said, well, I just played the same numbers all
- 44:56Speaker 18: the time. So he went and bought the same tickets
- 44:59Speaker 18: before the before of the drawing because he had lost
- 45:02Speaker 18: his ticket, and he bought the same exact numbers, and
- 45:05Speaker 18: then he ended up winning two million dollars. Each ticket
- 45:08Speaker 18: was a million dollars. And he found his ticket in
- 45:10Speaker 18: his truck.
- 45:11Speaker 4: It was in his car.
- 45:12Speaker 18: It had been tucked away in his seats, in between
- 45:14Speaker 18: his seats. So if you're out there listening and you're
- 45:16Speaker 18: in your car, check your consoles, check your glove box,
- 45:19Speaker 18: check under the seat, duffel bag, book bag, check anywhere
- 45:22Speaker 18: you think you might have bought that ticket.
- 45:24Speaker 4: It's it's they're they're out there.
- 45:25Speaker 6: Well, since I had you folks on the show, uh,
- 45:28Speaker 6: you know, a couple of weeks ago when you came
- 45:30Speaker 6: on Metro News Midday with a man did me? Ever
- 45:32Speaker 6: since that time, it's like I've become obsessed with this story,
- 45:35Speaker 6: you know, uh about because there's just somebody. There's two
- 45:38Speaker 6: people out there walking around and somewhere in their console
- 45:42Speaker 6: and their pocket maybe and Amanda brought this up. Maybe
- 45:45Speaker 6: somebody was a gift. Somebody bought somebody some tickets and
- 45:47Speaker 6: they didn't even look at it and they just throw
- 45:49Speaker 6: it in the drawer. There are somewhere out there, there's
- 45:52Speaker 6: a there's two separate million dollar tickets right here in
- 45:54Speaker 6: the d I mean one was purchased at Marty gar
- 45:57Speaker 6: Cassino and the other one was, uh was purchased at
- 45:59Speaker 6: a the parm Oar store in a hurricane. So if
- 46:03Speaker 6: you got tickets from there, you may want to check
- 46:05Speaker 6: it because you're a millionaire. You know, two of you,
- 46:07Speaker 6: there's two millionaires.
- 46:09Speaker 18: You're good good advice and you know time's running out,
- 46:11Speaker 18: you know, like I said, September, September eighth, and November six,
- 46:15Speaker 18: so you know, be sure and check those tickets.
- 46:18Speaker 4: And you know you mentioned when we came on the air.
- 46:20Speaker 18: I appreciate you having us, and we like to get
- 46:23Speaker 18: on and let people know that, you know, the lottery
- 46:25Speaker 18: does do a lot of good and it is National
- 46:27Speaker 18: Lottery Day, and I just want to add, you know,
- 46:29Speaker 18: since nineteen eighty six, it's the inception of the lottery,
- 46:32Speaker 18: we've generated over thirteen point six billion for senior citizens,
- 46:37Speaker 18: education and tourism. And you know it goes to support
- 46:41Speaker 18: you know, meals and wheels for the seniors, and computers
- 46:44Speaker 18: into school, you know, helps renovate schools, build schools, and
- 46:47Speaker 18: the promised scholarship is huge. So I just want to
- 46:50Speaker 18: make sure, you know, with a been National Lottery Day,
- 46:52Speaker 18: get that out.
- 46:52Speaker 6: I think we kind of forget that sometimes because the
- 46:54Speaker 6: lottery has been around for so long. I'm old enough
- 46:57Speaker 6: to remember you and I are I don't know what
- 46:58Speaker 6: Katie is, but old enough to remember when the lottery
- 47:02Speaker 6: was first developed in West Virginia and there was controversy
- 47:04Speaker 6: about it just because we hadn't had it, you know before, Uh,
- 47:08Speaker 6: and it turned out. I mean, there were a lot
- 47:10Speaker 6: of promises made what the lottery and funds were going
- 47:12Speaker 6: to go for by goys. You you know, you folks
- 47:15Speaker 6: delivered and I mean it. You are seeing the money
- 47:19Speaker 6: used in communities. Whether you realize it.
- 47:21Speaker 4: Or not, you're you're exactly right.
- 47:24Speaker 18: And and this year, you know, we did one point
- 47:25Speaker 18: three billion in sales and we contributed a little over
- 47:29Speaker 18: Hopefully it's gonna be around six hundred and eleven million.
- 47:32Speaker 4: For the for the state budget.
- 47:34Speaker 18: So you know, we do a lot of good And
- 47:37Speaker 18: I always like to say that, you know, when when
- 47:39Speaker 18: people play, we all win, you know, so it does.
- 47:42Speaker 18: It does a lot of good for the state. It
- 47:44Speaker 18: goes to a lot of good causes, and it's a
- 47:46Speaker 18: team effort at the lottery. You know, there's a lot
- 47:48Speaker 18: of good folks. I always like to say, you know,
- 47:50Speaker 18: we know one person does it alone. And you know,
- 47:52Speaker 18: we we've got good people, and we really appreciate all
- 47:55Speaker 18: of our players. We're thankful and grateful for you know,
- 47:58Speaker 18: all of our retailers and the people that make this
- 48:00Speaker 18: thing work, because it takes a lot of people to
- 48:02Speaker 18: uh to make it work, and it does do a
- 48:05Speaker 18: lot of good.
- 48:06Speaker 6: We had a text here, So that's David. If he
- 48:07Speaker 6: has a basketball hoop and has lottery office. Seriously, he'll
- 48:12Speaker 6: do tremendous job with the Lottery. I mean, you're not
- 48:14Speaker 6: new to this job. I mean, you know, you're the
- 48:15Speaker 6: acting director, but you've been around a while.
- 48:17Speaker 18: I've been been with the Lottery for thirty five years
- 48:20Speaker 18: and you know, uh, when I first came to the lottery,
- 48:23Speaker 18: you know, the only thing we had was traditional traditional games.
- 48:26Speaker 18: Are you know, our scratch offs in our daily three,
- 48:28Speaker 18: daily four games. So I've been lucky to see the
- 48:31Speaker 18: Lottery evolve grow.
- 48:32Speaker 13: You know.
- 48:32Speaker 4: The one thing I.
- 48:33Speaker 18: Always say is that we have to change and change
- 48:35Speaker 18: with technology, and the Lottery has changed. You know, we
- 48:38Speaker 18: got we got all the games that are that are
- 48:40Speaker 18: available out there for for legal gaming, and you know,
- 48:44Speaker 18: it's just it's it's like I said, you have to
- 48:46Speaker 18: be willing to change and it has changed.
- 48:48Speaker 4: Over over all the years.
- 48:50Speaker 6: But you didn't answer the question do you have a
- 48:53Speaker 6: I do not have a basketball hoop involved. I figure.
- 48:56Speaker 6: I think one of the reasons why you don't because
- 48:58Speaker 6: you don't want to go back to the memory that
- 48:59Speaker 6: you have from a certain basketball when when a when
- 49:04Speaker 6: a certain school that shall remain unnamed Logan Wildcats. But anyway,
- 49:08Speaker 6: I'm just kiding about that, David good natured humor there, No, I.
- 49:12Speaker 18: Appreciate that, but you know, uh, athletics were an important
- 49:16Speaker 18: part of my life. It's been important part of my
- 49:18Speaker 18: kids life, and you know so. But it teaches you
- 49:21Speaker 18: to be a team player, teaches you to get along
- 49:23Speaker 18: with with with folks and take direction and be able
- 49:25Speaker 18: to get out there and work with everybody.
- 49:28Speaker 16: You know.
- 49:28Speaker 6: And I had aunt Elmore on the show the coach
- 49:31Speaker 6: of of heard heard that earlier and you had an
- 49:34Speaker 6: Elmore story, right, Yeah, they Elmore's.
- 49:36Speaker 4: I'm really close to them.
- 49:37Speaker 8: You know.
- 49:37Speaker 18: I went to high school with with their their father Gay,
- 49:41Speaker 18: who's a great player. They're all great players. And but
- 49:43Speaker 18: I actually coached John and Ought and you know once,
- 49:47Speaker 18: uh long time ago. I was a middle school coach
- 49:50Speaker 18: at South Charleston Middle School. So I did have those guys.
- 49:53Speaker 18: And those guys are not only great basketball players, all
- 49:56Speaker 18: three of them in that family. But you know those
- 50:00Speaker 18: John and Ought and Uh and Gay, you know that
- 50:02Speaker 18: they're good people and they're they're good they're they're good
- 50:04Speaker 18: people in the community.
- 50:05Speaker 4: So yeah, I always wish them.
- 50:07Speaker 6: Well, John's actually out in the in Sacramento. Uh, and
- 50:11Speaker 6: he's playing in the NBA Summer League and so uh
- 50:13Speaker 6: when he had coach Elmore on earlier, he said he
- 50:15Speaker 6: didn't know whether John was going to be able to
- 50:18Speaker 6: make it back to maybe the second game if they
- 50:20Speaker 6: if they advance and they have a second game.
- 50:22Speaker 18: So I just I hope the best for for for
- 50:24Speaker 18: those for those guys. And I always tell John want
- 50:26Speaker 18: to see him. You know, when I coached him, we
- 50:28Speaker 18: used to shoot a lot and uh, uh, see who
- 50:31Speaker 18: can make the most three point or so, John, if
- 50:32Speaker 18: you're out there listening, you still owe me a bag
- 50:34Speaker 18: of hot ries.
- 50:35Speaker 6: So uh, you know, how can you going back to
- 50:38Speaker 6: the to the games that you developed, How exactly do
- 50:40Speaker 6: you decide? I mean, do you have like everybody sitting
- 50:42Speaker 6: around a room and come up with ideas you watch
- 50:44Speaker 6: what other states do? How how do you decide the
- 50:47Speaker 6: war room? How tell me about the war room?
- 50:50Speaker 18: Well, I think that I think the lottery you know,
- 50:51Speaker 18: like I said, it's always evolving. And since I've been there,
- 50:54Speaker 18: you know, when I first came there, we just did
- 50:56Speaker 18: traditional games and then we added racetrack video lottery. Then
- 50:59Speaker 18: we added table games, and then we added you know,
- 51:02Speaker 18: sports batting, and then the eye gaming has been huge,
- 51:06Speaker 18: and then now we're doing ie lottery where you can
- 51:09Speaker 18: buy all your lottery proceeds and or all your lottery
- 51:12Speaker 18: tickets and you can buy everything on your phone and
- 51:15Speaker 18: on your app. And I think, you know, the big
- 51:16Speaker 18: thing with the lottery is it's like I said, it's
- 51:18Speaker 18: always changing, and they're trying to find our you know,
- 51:20Speaker 18: we're always trying to find our niche and find out.
- 51:22Speaker 4: You know, who are we marketing, who are players?
- 51:25Speaker 18: And you know, so we're always looking to see what
- 51:28Speaker 18: games are out there, what other states are doing, what's
- 51:30Speaker 18: in the industry, and we always try to be current
- 51:33Speaker 18: and relevant.
- 51:34Speaker 6: And how much feedback do you get from from your customers?
- 51:38Speaker 6: I mean people you know contacting you about they like this,
- 51:41Speaker 6: they don't. I mean, I guess your sales will will
- 51:44Speaker 6: tell you whether people like that particular game or not.
- 51:46Speaker 6: But but if people are regular lottery players and they
- 51:48Speaker 6: just have an idea or they like this, don't lay
- 51:50Speaker 6: I'd like this? I mean, how do you handle feedback?
- 51:52Speaker 18: Are We're always open to feedback in our and our players.
- 51:55Speaker 4: You know they know it.
- 51:57Speaker 18: You know sometimes when we're talking about the rules of
- 52:00Speaker 18: the game or somebody calls in and you're talking to
- 52:02Speaker 18: a player, sometimes you know they know what's going on.
- 52:06Speaker 4: And so we always welcome feedback.
- 52:09Speaker 18: And like I said, we try to stay current and
- 52:10Speaker 18: try to stay relevant, try to stay fresh in the industry.
- 52:13Speaker 18: But they, our players are always fair with us, and
- 52:16Speaker 18: uh and we we do appreciate the feedback.
- 52:18Speaker 6: All right, appreciate you being here acting director of the
- 52:21Speaker 6: Lottery and also marketing director.
- 52:24Speaker 4: Kitties.
- 52:24Speaker 6: Now I'm just the pr just the PR brants, Okay,
- 52:27Speaker 6: all right, well you do. You do a great and
