- 0:00Speaker 1: So if aliens arrived, I would ask, I wrote a
- 0:04Speaker 1: book about aliens too, a few months ago.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Like if you've, your first encounter with an alien, it
- 0:08Speaker 1: sets you up for that. Okay.
- 0:10Speaker 3: What is it like a how to do like a,
- 0:12Speaker 3: it's a complete, like a first date type of.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So for example, if an alien, um,
- 0:18Speaker 1: you know, lands and walks up to you and it
- 0:20Speaker 1: happens to be some appendage sticking out, don't grab it
- 0:23Speaker 1: and shake it.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Because you don't know what part of the alien that is.
- 0:27Speaker 1: You probably don't want to find out, I'm guessing.
- 0:30Speaker 2: That's a space branch.
- 0:31Speaker 1: If an alien came down and they had technology that
- 0:34Speaker 1: got them here, one of my first questions would be,
- 0:37Speaker 1: how did you survive yourselves?
- 0:40Speaker 2: What do you mean yourselves?
- 0:44Speaker 1: Their own technology.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Right, because we may not.
- 0:47Speaker 1: We may not. We may not survive our own technology.
- 0:50Speaker 1: And maybe they're all just peace, love, and aliens. Peace, love,
- 0:53Speaker 1: and make love, not war. Well, I mean- You know,
- 0:56Speaker 1: the evil alien trope is so common. Evil aliens is
- 1:00Speaker 1: just one of- Well.
- 1:01Speaker 3: That's because I think that that's been how they've been-
- 1:04Speaker 3: I don't want to say aliens have been pigeonholed, but
- 1:07Speaker 3: I do feel like they have been.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Yes, they have been. But where do you think we
- 1:10Speaker 1: get that? I think we get it because they have
- 1:12Speaker 1: a more advanced technology, obviously, because they got here and
- 1:15Speaker 1: we haven't visited them. And any time humans with more
- 1:18Speaker 1: advanced technology have encountered other humans with less technology, it
- 1:23Speaker 1: has never boded well. Yeah. They've been enslaved, killed, tortured. Molested.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And so I think the evil alien concept is our
- 1:40Speaker 1: own fears placed upon them in our storytelling. It's a
- 1:44Speaker 1: mirror to how we know we would behave in that situation.
- 1:50Speaker 1: And that's unfair to the aliens because they could just
- 1:53Speaker 1: be peace, love, and aliens for all we know.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I'll tell you what I think the aliens are. I
- 1:58Speaker 3: think we end up in this space where you– you
- 2:03Speaker 3: don't use your body as much anymore, right? You're on screen,
- 2:09Speaker 3: you're digital, things get technological. Maybe they put a chip
- 2:12Speaker 3: in you or whatever. And your body, after like eons
- 2:16Speaker 3: of non-use and thousands of years of non-use just starts
- 2:20Speaker 3: to like turn into this sort of this shape. And
- 2:22Speaker 3: your eyes, which are the things that like you still
- 2:25Speaker 3: are pulling information in from, and maybe they put a
- 2:28Speaker 3: contact lens in that then expands over time. And then
- 2:32Speaker 3: I believe that we just become the alien. So all
- 2:34Speaker 3: we're seeing, the aliens are just us coming to visit.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Interesting because- Like an older us.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Because the aliens are hardly ever jacked when they come
- 2:43Speaker 1: down the- Usually thin.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yeah, well, they quit lifting weights centuries ago. And here's
- 2:49Speaker 2: the crazy part.
- 2:50Speaker 3: I think aliens that come here, like if you see
- 2:51Speaker 3: an alien ship on Earth, I think it's almost like
- 2:57Speaker 3: an alien family somewhere else. Like the parents took them
- 3:00Speaker 3: on a shitty trip for summer or whatever. And it's
- 3:03Speaker 3: like they could go to anywhere else in the galaxy.
- 3:05Speaker 3: And they're like, fucking mom, we got to go to Earth,
- 3:07Speaker 3: you know? And so that's why we don't even see
- 3:09Speaker 3: a lot of them, because it is like some jacked
- 3:12Speaker 3: up alien tourist destination.
- 3:14Speaker 1: So this is a low attraction point in the book. Right, OK.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Unfortunately. I think that that's a possibility.
- 3:22Speaker 1: So thanks for giving my alien book a shout out.
- 3:24Speaker 1: It came out earlier this year, back in May. Take
- 3:27Speaker 1: Me to Your Leader. Yeah, yeah. It's a small book,
- 3:30Speaker 1: very fits in your pocket kind of thing. And that
- 3:33Speaker 1: book is like everything you need to know for your
- 3:37Speaker 1: alien encounter. And it's grounded in physics. I mean, so
- 3:39Speaker 1: it's not, it's to try to anchor the conversations people
- 3:43Speaker 1: are having about what they see, what they think they see,
- 3:46Speaker 1: what they want to see. It's in there. There's a
- 3:48Speaker 1: chapter on alien intelligence, alien technology, alien powers. What powers
- 3:55Speaker 1: do aliens show in a movie that might be possible
- 3:59Speaker 1: on earth, even if it's beyond our current technologies? So
- 4:03Speaker 1: it's a very serious but fun exploration in that. So
- 4:07Speaker 1: thanks for giving that a shout out. But the Lost
- 4:10Speaker 1: in Space, like I said, that's a big fat old 5,000
- 4:14Speaker 1: fact book. National Geographic, they don't do ugly, right? Oh yeah,
- 4:20Speaker 1: some of the images and just like, yeah.
- 4:22Speaker 3: It's a nice journey of like kind of information and
- 4:26Speaker 3: enjoying yourself. You're laying on a couch, you're enjoying something,
- 4:29Speaker 3: you're sitting there.
- 4:30Speaker 1: You got to dip, dip in.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yeah, put a dip in.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. And, you know, for my podcast, I wanted
- 4:37Speaker 1: it to have a tagline, but our marketing person nixed it.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Because you come, and you have fun, and you learn something.
- 4:43Speaker 1: So the tagline was, learn something for a change. That's
- 4:47Speaker 1: what I was going to say. And they said, no,
- 4:49Speaker 1: that's too off-put. It was too. And so in this book,
- 4:54Speaker 1: it's like, learn something for a change. Yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Last question before you go, I guess. All right.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Could aliens bring new elements and stuff and new science
- 5:05Speaker 3: here that we haven't seen? Like, would it alter the
- 5:08Speaker 3: fabric of our science? Does that make sense?
- 5:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a great question. So in the chapter Alien
- 5:12Speaker 1: Powers and Alien Science and Technology, I explore the science
- 5:17Speaker 1: that we have discovered on Earth that applies across the
- 5:22Speaker 1: universe and across time. They are beholden to that. But
- 5:26Speaker 1: then there's other things about the universe that are mysteries
- 5:33Speaker 1: to us that they might have harnessed. Like dark matter,
- 5:37Speaker 1: dark energy, wormholes. You know how to make a wormhole?
- 5:42Speaker 1: You need a negative gravity material. It'd be a substance.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Normal things have gravity. This is negative gravity.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Like what, mud or something? No, no, no.
- 5:52Speaker 1: It just doesn't exist.
- 5:53Speaker 2: We don't know.
- 5:54Speaker 1: But maybe an alien figured out how to make it.
- 5:57Speaker 1: And if you can make a negative gravity thing, instead
- 5:59Speaker 1: of bringing things together, which gravity does, it pries things apart,
- 6:03Speaker 1: which is what you need to make a wormhole. Yeah. So,
- 6:07Speaker 1: but here's the thing, if they master wormholes, then they
- 6:10Speaker 1: connect where they are to where we are, and they
- 6:11Speaker 1: just step through, they wouldn't need spaceships. They would step
- 6:16Speaker 1: through like Rick and Morty. You know, Rick has a,
- 6:19Speaker 1: he opens a portal, or who's this dude in the, Avengers,
- 6:25Speaker 1: Doctor Strange, you just step through. And they would just
- 6:27Speaker 1: be here. They'd just be here if it's a proper wormhole. Right,
- 6:30Speaker 1: it's not a whole tube that you pass through. You
- 6:33Speaker 1: just step through. So if they mastered that, then they
- 6:36Speaker 1: would not be seen in spaceships.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Where would you go if you could wormhole?
- 6:41Speaker 3: Oh.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Center of the galaxy. That's got to be bad. There's
- 6:48Speaker 1: a supermassive black hole there. I would need radiation protection
- 6:51Speaker 1: because there's a lot of, lethal electromagnetic energy coming out
- 6:57Speaker 1: of there. But the center of the galaxy feels cool
- 6:59Speaker 1: to me.
- 7:00Speaker 2: How many people have we sent there?
- 7:02Speaker 1: Zero. Ever? To the center of the galaxy? Yeah. What
- 7:06Speaker 1: do you mean? We've only been to the moon like
- 7:08Speaker 1: six times.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 7:10Speaker 1: So what do you mean go to the center of
- 7:11Speaker 1: the galaxy? Well, fuck it's good. Yeah. 30,000 light years away.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't know that. Oh, galaxy, dude.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Galaxy.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Okay, well, Earth? Earth and the planets and the sun,
- 7:23Speaker 1: solar system. We and 400 billion other stars, Milky Way galaxy.
- 7:30Speaker 1: We and thousands of other galaxies, the Virgo supercluster of galaxies.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Other superclusters combine the universe.
- 7:38Speaker 2: They keep renaming this thing and making it bigger.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Bigger and bigger, yeah, as we discover it, yeah.
- 7:43Speaker 3: As we discover, it's like they just kind of give
- 7:44Speaker 3: you a little more bread, a little more bread crumb.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Well, yeah, incremental, that's why we make new telescopes. So
- 7:52Speaker 1: is there new physics? There could be, but the physics
- 7:55Speaker 1: we know is not going to be different for them.
- 7:59Speaker 2: So our physics would have to apply to them?
- 8:02Speaker 1: Certain aspects of our physics, yes, because we've tested it
- 8:05Speaker 1: on Earth and across the universe.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Got it.
- 8:08Speaker 1: So the periodic table of elements, which you saw in
- 8:10Speaker 1: your chemistry class... That is full. It used to have
- 8:15Speaker 1: gaps in it. And we said, wait a minute, there's
- 8:16Speaker 1: a gap here. There must be an element. Let's look
- 8:18Speaker 1: for it. Let's synthesize it. Let's create it. Bada bing,
- 8:22Speaker 1: here's the element. The first element, this is in the book,
- 8:25Speaker 1: the first element that was manufactured, because there was a
- 8:30Speaker 1: gap in the whole element. Do we see this in nature? No,
- 8:33Speaker 1: nature doesn't make this element. Let's make it ourselves. That's
- 8:36Speaker 1: how badass we are. We made this element. And we
- 8:39Speaker 1: named it after the prefix we use for things that
- 8:43Speaker 1: are artificially made. You know that prefix?
- 8:46Speaker 3: Tech.
- 8:47Speaker 2: It's called technicium. Technicium.
- 8:50Speaker 1: We invented that.
- 8:52Speaker 3: And.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Wow. And that's a real element?
- 8:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 1: In fact, it has very important and significant medical application.
- 9:01Speaker 2: And can you just buy it? Or is it like a.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I've never tried. There are labs that can synthesize it, but... Wow. Yeah,
- 9:08Speaker 1: you can't know. What are you going to do with it?
- 9:09Speaker 1: I mean, what would you do with it if you.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm just half-sum. I guess. I don't
- 9:14Speaker 2: even know.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I didn't know it existed. Well, right. So there's... Yes,
- 9:17Speaker 2: you can buy techni... Technetium?
- 9:19Speaker 3: Technetium, but it is strictly regulated and very difficult for
- 9:22Speaker 3: private individuals to obtain in pure form because it is radioactive.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yes. Never mind.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Radioactive.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Do not want that in my house.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Want to keep your gonads.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:33Speaker 1: So the element is full. When the Knicks were in
- 9:38Speaker 1: the playoffs, they hadn't been since I was in middle school.
- 9:42Speaker 2: 52 years or something.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm an old fart. And so while they were
- 9:48Speaker 1: in the playoffs, I tweeted, I said, I forgot the
- 9:52Speaker 1: exact number, but it's approximate. I said, the last time
- 9:54Speaker 1: the Knicks won the championship, the periodic table had 11.
- 10:00Speaker 1: fewer elements. Just to measure time by our rate of
- 10:04Speaker 1: discovery of these elements. So we're up to 118. Nature
- 10:09Speaker 1: only makes 92 of them. Wow. We manufacture, so we
- 10:14Speaker 1: got the periodic table. That is what the universe is
- 10:17Speaker 1: made of. Whatever they make their, Craft out of, it's
- 10:21Speaker 1: gotta be these ingredients. So I can talk about these
- 10:25Speaker 1: ingredients that they have. Maybe they may have some fancy alloy, sure,
- 10:28Speaker 1: but they're made of these ingredients. Do they have negative
- 10:33Speaker 1: gravity substance? Maybe, I don't know. I'm not gonna preclude that.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Maybe they figured that out. Can they read your mind?
- 10:45Speaker 1: If they get close enough, maybe, because your brain is
- 10:49Speaker 1: electromagnetic signals.
- 10:51Speaker 2: It does? Yes.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And that's why you can put electrodes on your head
- 10:55Speaker 1: and read your brain waves. So yes, in principle, yes.
- 11:00Speaker 1: We don't know how to do that yet, but I
- 11:02Speaker 1: give that to them. I'll give it to them. They're
- 11:04Speaker 1: more advanced.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Sure.
- 11:05Speaker 2: They came all the way here.
- 11:05Speaker 1: They came all the way here. Give it to them.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So there's a whole conversation there about powers they have,
- 11:12Speaker 1: but I'm not giving them the physics that we've already established.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Got it. We're good with that.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 1: And we know that because we can measure atomic phenomenon
- 11:22Speaker 1: in other stars and other galaxies across space and throughout time.
- 11:28Speaker 1: And so we're good there. Be proud of that.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Amen.
