- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, Blake?
- 0:01Speaker 2: How you doing? Man?
- 0:02Speaker 1: Life is good?
- 0:03Speaker 2: Man?
- 0:03Speaker 1: How are you?
- 0:04Speaker 2: Wow? Like y'all? Studio is bad ass? Looking back there?
- 0:07Speaker 2: That is cool?
- 0:08Speaker 3: Hey, you know what about this studio too? Let me
- 0:11Speaker 3: see if you recognize this place over here?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Where Wait a minute, it's not Oh my, is that
- 0:20Speaker 2: all right over there?
- 0:22Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 0:22Speaker 1: We're This studio is in Jason el Dean's bar.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Oh you're kidding me. That's cool. I need do I
- 0:28Speaker 2: need to put a studio on mind?
- 0:30Speaker 1: So so I watch?
- 0:31Speaker 3: Uh, I watched to make sure your people are working
- 0:33Speaker 3: all day over Yeah?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Good good.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Hey, I gotta say we we caught up.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Right when this new single was coming out.
- 0:48Speaker 3: And I've only been able to I meet Gosh, I
- 0:51Speaker 3: met you only once, uh, when you were coming through Vegas.
- 0:54Speaker 3: This is a long time ago, probably like seven eight
- 0:58Speaker 3: years ago. But there was something about getting to talk
- 1:01Speaker 3: to you when this single was coming out, that you
- 1:05Speaker 3: might be having the best time you've ever had making music.
- 1:08Speaker 4: It feels like, yeah, well, I don't know if it's
- 1:11Speaker 4: the best time. I would say it's equal to the
- 1:14Speaker 4: first time. And because I feel like those early days
- 1:19Speaker 4: before my first album came out and the excitement of
- 1:22Speaker 4: it for me because you know, I'd worked my entire
- 1:27Speaker 4: life to get to the point where I could put
- 1:29Speaker 4: out my first album, and then Austin came out and
- 1:34Speaker 4: had turned into a big hit, and I never expected
- 1:37Speaker 4: it to.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Be like that, you know.
- 1:40Speaker 4: I mean I dreamed of it, but I just never expected,
- 1:43Speaker 4: like my first song to come out and do that.
- 1:45Speaker 4: And so because I had this hit on the radio
- 1:47Speaker 4: and my album wasn't even out yet, I just had
- 1:51Speaker 4: I was like a kid in a candy store, like
- 1:53Speaker 4: I couldn't wait.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It was like I couldn't.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Wait for people to get my record because when they
- 1:58Speaker 4: got it, I knew that there were songs on other
- 2:00Speaker 4: songs on there that that I felt strongly.
- 2:03Speaker 2: About, like old Red.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Old Red was also on that first album. It's like, man,
- 2:07Speaker 4: what about when they hear that?
- 2:08Speaker 2: You know?
- 2:09Speaker 4: So I just had so much excitement and I have
- 2:12Speaker 4: that with this album. To your point, I have that
- 2:16Speaker 4: with this album. I'm giddy about it again and I
- 2:20Speaker 4: and I feel connected to those early days of just
- 2:24Speaker 4: like I'm so fired up and I can't wait for
- 2:27Speaker 4: people to get the record. And I got to say,
- 2:29Speaker 4: there's part of me that I hate this new way
- 2:33Speaker 4: that we released music where it's like those Instagram things
- 2:36Speaker 4: like we put at It's like no, no, no, no,
- 2:38Speaker 4: just let them get it all at once, you know
- 2:40Speaker 4: what I mean. It's like, well, that's not how the
- 2:41Speaker 4: business works, Blake, so shut up.
- 2:44Speaker 2: But I am.
- 2:45Speaker 4: I am excited for people to get the record and
- 2:48Speaker 4: hear it because I've been working on it for long, long,
- 2:52Speaker 4: like years I've been working on this record. I didn't
- 2:54Speaker 4: know it because I've been recording things here and there,
- 2:57Speaker 4: and I just didn't know what I was going to
- 2:59Speaker 4: do with the music. But it ends up being some
- 3:02Speaker 4: of this, Some of this music goes back, you know,
- 3:04Speaker 4: four or five years.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I will say the last time we caught up with
- 3:08Speaker 3: you was also on a zoom, except you were in
- 3:12Speaker 3: a much more gorgeous location. It was Gwen's zoom area.
- 3:17Speaker 3: I just want to ask, and you can tell me
- 3:18Speaker 3: to mind my business. Have you been kicked out of
- 3:20Speaker 3: the house now?
- 3:23Speaker 2: I did? I was today.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Look at this is the polar opposite of of the
- 3:27Speaker 4: of Gwenn's thing. This is the this has got all
- 3:29Speaker 4: my deer heads and stuff ended in here.
- 3:31Speaker 2: So it's the.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Opposite when for what, for some reason, she doesn't want
- 3:36Speaker 4: my taxidermy in her in her hang out room.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I don't know what's wrong with her.
- 3:41Speaker 3: That's well, we're gonna get a therapist involved, and we're
- 3:44Speaker 3: gonna just fix that.
- 3:45Speaker 1: We'll just work it all out. There's got to be
- 3:47Speaker 1: some give and some and some back.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Deer horns laying around on my table here. There's none
- 3:52Speaker 4: of that at Gwen's office.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Uh. We were talking about the excitement you're having with
- 3:56Speaker 3: this new music man. Uh, you had put out there
- 3:59Speaker 3: was there was a couple of singles you put out.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Damn they were so good.
- 4:04Speaker 3: And when we when we caught up around that time,
- 4:06Speaker 3: you were like, this is fine, I'm okay doing this
- 4:09Speaker 3: right now.
- 4:09Speaker 1: What was the tipping point for you that did you like?
- 4:12Speaker 1: Screw it man, it's album time again.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Uh?
- 4:16Speaker 4: Posts Malone was the tipping point for me working with
- 4:19Speaker 4: him last year on a couple of shows we did together,
- 4:24Speaker 4: shooting the video for for Me a Drink.
- 4:26Speaker 2: That guy.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Is so passionate about country music, and it really because
- 4:33Speaker 4: I had gotten so lazy and just lollygagging about my career. Honestly,
- 4:40Speaker 4: I mean, let's just call it what it is, you know,
- 4:42Speaker 4: and not focusing.
- 4:45Speaker 2: On it, not to say like I should should.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Be, because I mean, I was doing exactly what I
- 4:50Speaker 4: wanted to do. I wanted to have some time and
- 4:53Speaker 4: and back off a little bit. But being around Post
- 4:57Speaker 4: was the reminder that, man, I'm the luckiest guy in
- 5:01Speaker 4: the world to get to do what I do. Just
- 5:03Speaker 4: a handful of people in the world get to do
- 5:06Speaker 4: what I do. You know, have make records and people
- 5:10Speaker 4: get to hear it, and and that's only going to
- 5:12Speaker 4: happen for a window of time. I mean, that's it
- 5:15Speaker 4: is what it is, that's the nature of the music industry.
- 5:18Speaker 4: And it made me realize, Man, I'm blowing it here,
- 5:21Speaker 4: like I need to focus. I need to take another
- 5:24Speaker 4: hard swing it at making the best country album I
- 5:28Speaker 4: can make, cause why wouldn't I. I mean, I'm going
- 5:31Speaker 4: to regret this someday if I don't. And so that's
- 5:34Speaker 4: really what lit the fire under me, was just being
- 5:36Speaker 4: around him and his passion, his excitement for for country
- 5:41Speaker 4: music and the way I used to be when I
- 5:43Speaker 4: was his age.
- 5:44Speaker 3: You know, the album is coming May ninth, I was.
- 5:51Speaker 3: I was looking up some info about it and getting
- 5:53Speaker 3: ready to talk to you. Obviously, Texas Massive sunk let
- 5:56Speaker 3: him in anyway, I got about.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Halfway through before I was like, well, hang on, now,
- 6:00Speaker 1: what the hell? Uh?
- 6:03Speaker 3: What else can what else can we expect from this album?
- 6:06Speaker 3: I know that the details are kind of under wraps
- 6:08Speaker 3: right now, but not really.
- 6:09Speaker 4: I mean, I have I have a song on there
- 6:12Speaker 4: that I'm besides letting them in anyway, which I think
- 6:15Speaker 4: is just an incredible piece of music. Think, thank God,
- 6:21Speaker 4: that's that's hearty by the way, no shock.
- 6:23Speaker 2: To anybody, I don't think.
- 6:24Speaker 4: But uh, I have a duet with with Gwynn on
- 6:29Speaker 4: the album, which I won't won't surprise anybody, but I'm
- 6:31Speaker 4: super excited about that that piece of music. I think
- 6:34Speaker 4: that's gonna be an important song on the album. Uh.
- 6:38Speaker 4: And something that's on there that I'm also really proud
- 6:42Speaker 4: of as a as a song that John Anderson wrote
- 6:46Speaker 4: called years that that John actually I got John. I
- 6:48Speaker 4: talked to him into coming into the studio and doing
- 6:51Speaker 4: a speaking part on the record at the end of
- 6:53Speaker 4: the song. And I just think John Anderson is one
- 6:58Speaker 4: of the greats of all time. And uh, and they
- 7:02Speaker 4: finally put him in the Hall of Fame last year,
- 7:04Speaker 4: which I was super excited to see that. And and
- 7:07Speaker 4: and and I know that was a big deal for him.
- 7:10Speaker 4: But he made He made an album that came out
- 7:13Speaker 4: during COVID that I had a duet on there with
- 7:16Speaker 4: him called Tuesday I'll Be Gone. But the name of
- 7:18Speaker 4: his album was a song called it Years and man,
- 7:22Speaker 4: I thought Years was the best best thing I'd heard
- 7:25Speaker 4: in a long time. And he wrote the song and
- 7:28Speaker 4: and I told him, I said, man if and when
- 7:31Speaker 4: I'm making an album, if it's cool with you, I
- 7:34Speaker 4: want to cut Years from from my album two. And
- 7:36Speaker 4: so I did, and it's the last song on this record.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I'm really proud.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Of the recording we did on it and the fact
- 7:43Speaker 4: that he came in and was a part of it.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Knowing how your relationship has grown with with a guy
- 7:49Speaker 3: like post Malone and the inspiration that you've given him.
- 7:52Speaker 3: You gave him credit last time we talked as well
- 7:54Speaker 3: for kind of inspiring where you're at mentally.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Musically right now. Was he Was he a part of
- 8:01Speaker 1: the creation process? Did you? Did you invite him to
- 8:04Speaker 1: rights or recording or anything like that.
- 8:07Speaker 2: No, I can't. I can't roll with with posts for
- 8:10Speaker 2: more than a day.
- 8:12Speaker 4: I mean, he that probably I'd have to find me
- 8:15Speaker 4: in the hospital you know, if I spent more than
- 8:18Speaker 4: a day with posts, you.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Know a lot.
- 8:21Speaker 4: I only recorded probably six things or I guess, uh,
- 8:27Speaker 4: from last summer till now, because like I said, a
- 8:30Speaker 4: lot of this stuff I had recorded, I just didn't know.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I didn't have a home for it, you know, I
- 8:34Speaker 2: didn't know exactly.
- 8:35Speaker 4: What I was going to do with it, and a
- 8:36Speaker 4: lot of it I just needed to go in and
- 8:37Speaker 4: sing it or or you know, put the finishing touches
- 8:41Speaker 4: on it.
- 8:41Speaker 2: So uh no I left. I didn't.
- 8:44Speaker 4: I haven't played my post mylone card yet. One of
- 8:46Speaker 4: these days, though, I'm going to call in a call
- 8:49Speaker 4: in a favor and see if I can't, uh, you know,
- 8:51Speaker 4: get some kind of other collab with him, or or
- 8:54Speaker 4: some kind of project with him, because he is so
- 8:56Speaker 4: much fun. But I do have to limit the amount
- 8:58Speaker 4: of time because I don't know if I can take
- 9:00Speaker 4: it at this point in my life.
- 9:02Speaker 3: And we had we had Craig Morgan studio probably a
- 9:08Speaker 3: good week or two ago, and uh he had some
- 9:12Speaker 3: other some amazing They always say like I want people
- 9:16Speaker 3: to talk like me, talk talk about.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Me like that in a room I'm not in.
- 9:21Speaker 3: And that was Craig talking about how amazing it is
- 9:23Speaker 3: to be friends with you and what this this tour
- 9:25Speaker 3: has been like. Who would you say to this day.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Obviously Craig probably one of them, Post is one of them.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Who are some of the guys and girls that you
- 9:33Speaker 3: would consider like more than just people doing country with you?
- 9:40Speaker 4: Well, Trace Atkins is literally like family family to me. Uh,
- 9:46Speaker 4: I just never I don't know anybody else in my
- 9:49Speaker 4: life that I have the kind of connection with another
- 9:54Speaker 4: human being like I do him. It's just like, you know,
- 9:57Speaker 4: you in your like this, I'm sure you have guys,
- 10:00Speaker 4: guys that are your buddies, and then you have guys
- 10:03Speaker 4: that are your brothers, you know. And and Trace traces
- 10:07Speaker 4: that guy for me, I mean, he just he just is.
- 10:11Speaker 2: I mean we we've been at.
- 10:17Speaker 4: On rock bottom together, and we've been on top of
- 10:20Speaker 4: the mountain together, and there's a lot of a lot
- 10:23Speaker 4: of miles in between both of those places, as you know,
- 10:26Speaker 4: and and he's just been a part of all of
- 10:30Speaker 4: it for me, you know. And he's just been, uh,
- 10:33Speaker 4: you know, the best friend a guy can have.
- 10:35Speaker 2: He really is.
- 10:37Speaker 3: When it comes to what you want to do now
- 10:39Speaker 3: this summer, as uh as this tour raps.
- 10:41Speaker 1: We're getting ready to celebrate the new album.
- 10:43Speaker 3: What's what are your plans the rest of the year
- 10:44Speaker 3: to get out and celebrate this new music.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Well, man, we have, you know, all the big things
- 10:53Speaker 4: that come up in the year.
- 10:55Speaker 2: The ACM Awards are coming up.
- 10:56Speaker 4: I'm gonna go out there, and they asked me to
- 10:58Speaker 4: sing Texas, which you know, I again, it's another one
- 11:02Speaker 4: of those things that I'm super excited about because you know,
- 11:07Speaker 4: if you've been doing this as long as I have,
- 11:09Speaker 4: it's like you appreciate still getting those invites this far
- 11:14Speaker 4: into the game.
- 11:15Speaker 2: You know, I'm going to do go.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Do the CMA Fest this year, and man, I don't
- 11:22Speaker 4: know what the hell else. Just at this point, I'm
- 11:25Speaker 4: just taking it as it comes and having fun with
- 11:28Speaker 4: it and trying not to. Honestly, I'm not going to
- 11:31Speaker 4: let it get too crazy this time, because I never
- 11:33Speaker 4: want to get to the point where I feel like
- 11:36Speaker 4: it's work again, because I love this balance that I
- 11:38Speaker 4: have right now, and I love my job and I
- 11:42Speaker 4: want to do it as long as I can, but
- 11:43Speaker 4: have fun with it at the same time.
