- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:19Speaker 2: No, everyone, Welcome back to the episode of Star Wars
- 0:22Speaker 2: Lines your home on the Geek Ultimate Alliance podcast network
- 0:25Speaker 2: for any and all things Star Wars. I'm your host
- 0:28Speaker 2: is always Katie and with me as per usual, It's Clay.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Clay.
- 0:33Speaker 2: How are you doing today?
- 0:35Speaker 1: I am doing decent. Uh, you know, you shared a
- 0:42Speaker 1: little story prior to us recording. I have been having
- 0:47Speaker 1: just a hell of a time at work and uh,
- 0:54Speaker 1: it's getting a little stressful. All of my managers are
- 0:58Speaker 1: basically uh scram willing to get stuff for San Diego
- 1:03Speaker 1: Comic Con ready and everything else. So they are very overwhelmed,
- 1:10Speaker 1: the very high stress, you know, all of that stuff,
- 1:14Speaker 1: and for some reason we can't all just be adults
- 1:18Speaker 1: and like understand the situation and talk things through. It's
- 1:22Speaker 1: always like ah, like all the time now. So yeah,
- 1:29Speaker 1: it's not been fun at work, but I'm getting through it. Yeah,
- 1:36Speaker 1: you know, it is what it is. We are going
- 1:39Speaker 1: to be talking about apparently immy nomination snubs snubs and
- 1:52Speaker 1: of course, uh, the books that we've had on schedule
- 1:56Speaker 1: for what feels like months now, and we've had to
- 1:59Speaker 1: keep pushing back, can keep pushing back. But yeah, I
- 2:04Speaker 1: have been so busy at work. I'm barely looking at
- 2:07Speaker 1: our gu wait chats, the Star Wars Alliance chat. So
- 2:12Speaker 1: bear with me while I try to understand most of
- 2:17Speaker 1: the stuff that we were gonna be talking about, which
- 2:19Speaker 1: I don't think is gonna be very hard to be
- 2:23Speaker 1: completely honest. But yeah, So whenever you want to get
- 2:29Speaker 1: this started and where to get started, you can definitely jumponic.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Yeah, so guys, really the biggest piece of news that
- 2:38Speaker 2: we have is for the Emmy nominations, which came out yesterday.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I think, I don't know. It's been a week, guys.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I've had food poisoning, I got some really good news
- 2:51Speaker 2: about my house selling. So it's just been a hot
- 2:54Speaker 2: best week. But you know, we're here, we're enjoying things.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I had bourbon. It's all fine. So I'm reading this
- 3:03Speaker 2: off of the Star Wars dot com UH news article.
- 3:10Speaker 2: And Or obtained fourteen nominations UH this year. However, the
- 3:17Speaker 2: only acting nominations were for Forrest Whittaker and Alan Tudi,
- 3:24Speaker 2: which sure both awesome deserving. Like Allent, Tudic as always
- 3:32Speaker 2: is a gym in whatever he does, for had some
- 3:36Speaker 2: great moments. But you're telling me, and I haven't seen
- 3:41Speaker 2: The White Lotus at all, but I know it's a
- 3:43Speaker 2: comedy bit. Really, it's a satire drama. You're telling me
- 3:50Speaker 2: Lotus was earning of four, not just one, not just two,
- 3:57Speaker 2: but four of these supporting actress nominations for the Ennis.
- 4:06Speaker 2: That is wild to me.
- 4:08Speaker 1: It is what I and like. Honestly, I almost not almost,
- 4:17Speaker 1: I do kind of agree with what Tony ended up
- 4:22Speaker 1: saying about the steps that that Star Wars ended up
- 4:27Speaker 1: receiving or like thereop, yes he said.
- 4:31Speaker 2: These are epic long term character studies. The ultimate victory
- 4:35Speaker 2: is that these performances will be celebrated and discussed for
- 4:37Speaker 2: years to come. I feel confident about that, and yes,
- 4:41Speaker 2: wholeheartedly agreed that's a very good way to say fuck you.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Well, but honestly, like in the grand scheme of things,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and somebody could probably prove me wrong twenty years from now,
- 4:54Speaker 1: but in hindsight, we look at a new hope. First
- 5:01Speaker 1: Star Wars film. It's how many years old now and
- 5:08Speaker 1: we are still talking about it. Yeah, it is a
- 5:16Speaker 1: It's a staple of movie pop culture and Star Wars
- 5:24Speaker 1: as a whole because it started it right, and so
- 5:29Speaker 1: I personally, as somebody who has only seen the first
- 5:35Speaker 1: season of White Lotus could not possibly think, oh, in
- 5:41Speaker 1: forty years, I'm gonna really just be thinking about the
- 5:46Speaker 1: three seasons of White Lotus, you know.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Is however, and I completely agree with you, and I
- 5:54Speaker 2: haven't seen any of White Lotus, but the awards circuit
- 6:00Speaker 2: in Hollywood is just wild. But unfortunately that's what a
- 6:04Speaker 2: lot of regular people use to dictate. Hey, I'm gonna
- 6:08Speaker 2: go watch.
- 6:08Speaker 1: This, yes, like yeah, so it's the tomato effect.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Yes, and it's a sad factor. But it's the same
- 6:19Speaker 2: thing that happens with Marvel. It's the same thing that
- 6:21Speaker 2: happens with DC. They don't get respect because they're IP
- 6:25Speaker 2: based things. There's not I hate saying this because I
- 6:30Speaker 2: don't really think Avatar is a technological Marvel, but guitar,
- 6:34Speaker 2: for instance, technological Marvel, like so obviously very well deserving
- 6:42Speaker 2: to the Academy in that sort of thing. But the
- 6:44Speaker 2: Emmy is like a lot of people like, that's how
- 6:48Speaker 2: you publicize, oh, nominated Diego Luna, Like this is how
- 6:53Speaker 2: you go, Oh, he had an Emmy nominated performance. And
- 6:57Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I love Pedro. I loved Pedro. You cannot
- 7:02Speaker 2: tell me Pedro with his sixty minutes in the Last
- 7:07Speaker 2: of Us was more deserving as a main actor nomination
- 7:11Speaker 2: than Diego Fuda.
- 7:18Speaker 1: That I keep my mouth shut on that one just
- 7:24Speaker 1: because I am, for one A, I love Pedro, but
- 7:33Speaker 1: I also am a really big fan of the Last
- 7:34Speaker 1: of Us. So it's like that one A very is
- 7:37Speaker 1: a very hard conversation to have for me personally.
- 7:41Speaker 2: But Pedro too, you don't like to yeh, but like
- 7:46Speaker 2: main actor, sure, supporting.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Actor, and I think you're You're absolutely right when you
- 7:53Speaker 1: look at what Pedro was four season two spoilers for
- 7:59Speaker 1: Sea in two of the Last when you look at
- 8:06Speaker 1: the screen time between the two actors on Last of
- 8:12Speaker 1: the season two and and or season two Diego had
- 8:20Speaker 1: Diego ran circles around Petro in front of the game
- 8:24Speaker 1: character energy. Yeah, totally agree, totally agree on that one.
- 8:31Speaker 2: So it's just astounding to me really just to see.
- 8:38Speaker 2: But I know, like the shows nominate in these categories,
- 8:42Speaker 2: but there should be a standard and it just wasn't
- 8:46Speaker 2: met here.
- 8:48Speaker 1: It almost has that feeling of like for the longest time,
- 8:55Speaker 1: Christopher Nolan of course, was always chasing after that at
- 9:00Speaker 1: Oscar and everybody was like, Oh, it's because he does
- 9:04Speaker 1: these weird like sci fi things and stuff like that,
- 9:08Speaker 1: Like he needs to steer away from that stuff in
- 9:10Speaker 1: order to really grab onto the audience. Blah blah blah.
- 9:14Speaker 1: And of course, like you said, Star Wars is an IP,
- 9:17Speaker 1: but Star Wars is also sci fi fantasy epic, you know,
- 9:23Speaker 1: things like that, so always.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Going to be underappreciated.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Basically, it is going to be underappreciated. But I really
- 9:32Speaker 1: hope because we also talked about this when we were
- 9:36Speaker 1: talking about the ending of season two and Or as
- 9:41Speaker 1: a whole, that season two of and Or we felt
- 9:49Speaker 1: kind of helped evolve the conversation around the storytelling of
- 9:55Speaker 1: Star Wars yep. And I truly hope that this is
- 10:05Speaker 1: a one time or deal with Emmy nominations and Star Wars, because,
- 10:15Speaker 1: like I had said previously in those conversations, we are
- 10:21Speaker 1: just one really cool, really hit Star Wars show from
- 10:28Speaker 1: them being able to break out of the oh it's
- 10:31Speaker 1: just an IP conversation, you know. So I I genuinely
- 10:38Speaker 1: believe so.
- 10:41Speaker 2: So we will see what happens with this. But uh
- 10:48Speaker 2: so uh and Or did receive a nomination for Outstanding
- 10:53Speaker 2: drama series. It Also, all of these are nominations, guys.
- 11:00Speaker 2: So you had Outstanding Production Design, Outstanding cinematography, Outstanding Fantasy
- 11:06Speaker 2: slash sci Fi Costumes, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Picture Editing, Outstanding
- 11:13Speaker 2: Music Composition, Original music, we said guest actor, we said
- 11:18Speaker 2: voiceover performance. We have sound editing, we have sound mixing,
- 11:25Speaker 2: special visual effects, and outstanding writing, Outstanding Writing. I just
- 11:30Speaker 2: want to mention most of these are first specific episodes, guys,
- 11:35Speaker 2: but outstanding Writing for a drama series. Welcome to the
- 11:38Speaker 2: Rebellion with mon Mathmas speech was recognized for its power,
- 11:47Speaker 2: So very happy about that. At least the Acolyte was
- 11:52Speaker 2: also recognized, and show wars dot com did mention it
- 11:57Speaker 2: in their article. It was recognized for Outstanding Sound Editing
- 12:02Speaker 2: for a Comedy or Drama Series half hour and that
- 12:05Speaker 2: episode in particular was Night and then Music by Will
- 12:12Speaker 2: by John Williams. The documentary Uh was recognized with two nominations,
- 12:19Speaker 2: one for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Non Fictional Reality
- 12:23Speaker 2: Program and then Outstanding Sound Mixing. So uh, interesting to
- 12:29Speaker 2: see how this turns out. This doesn't say when the
- 12:34Speaker 2: Emmys are, but I'm sure we'll find out eventually. So
- 12:41Speaker 2: that's all the news. Guys. It was just that blower
- 12:49Speaker 2: and weak in Star Wars. So now the only thing
- 12:54Speaker 2: we have left to talk about, Clay is the Higher
- 12:57Speaker 2: Republic Adventures Volume three. Oh that's the wrong book, volume
- 13:02Speaker 2: three and crash them. So which one do you want
- 13:07Speaker 2: to talk about first?
- 13:08Speaker 3: All right, y'all, we are gonna hit our first ad
- 13:10Speaker 3: break and we will be right back in three two.
- 13:14Speaker 1: One, let's talk about volume three. Also, I'm just gonna
- 13:26Speaker 1: go ahead and say this. We are in post Trials
- 13:33Speaker 1: of the Jedi, so we will be making some comments
- 13:38Speaker 1: if you have not finished that novel. I apologize. We
- 13:43Speaker 1: will try and remind people of when we were about
- 13:49Speaker 1: to make comments about that book, So if you would
- 13:51Speaker 1: like to skip, hopefully we are able to catch ourselves
- 13:55Speaker 1: before we share any spoilers Katie. Volume three. There's one
- 14:07Speaker 1: thing that and I this is a critique that I
- 14:12Speaker 1: have on both books, okay, that I hope can be
- 14:20Speaker 1: fixed in future reiterations of Star Wars storytelling in comic forms,
- 14:30Speaker 1: especially with the Adventures, there is a very awkward and
- 14:38Speaker 1: weird transition between issues in the same volume. I think
- 14:47Speaker 1: that is the that I have.
- 14:52Speaker 2: If you remember that the first time I read this,
- 14:55Speaker 2: you would read.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I think it was like the first issue of volume
- 14:59Speaker 1: one one, right, and that's how it ends exactly. That's
- 15:03Speaker 1: exactly how it ends. And then you start what would
- 15:07Speaker 1: be issue number two, and like they're in a completely
- 15:12Speaker 1: different spot, a couple of days in the past whatever,
- 15:15Speaker 1: like there is still no explanation of the time that
- 15:19Speaker 1: has passed, and then you're like, wait, how did what's
- 15:23Speaker 1: going on? What?
- 15:25Speaker 2: Uh?
- 15:25Speaker 1: Okay, let's just move forward. I guess it was very
- 15:28Speaker 1: odd that was That.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Was something I remember going back to the Higher Adventures
- 15:33Speaker 2: Volume two with like the Tartan girl being involved. I
- 15:38Speaker 2: was like, what the heck is going on? Like, how
- 15:42Speaker 2: are we playing this game? And I did the same
- 15:45Speaker 2: thing with this one.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Guys.
- 15:46Speaker 2: The volume three is uh issues eleven through thirteen, and
- 15:55Speaker 2: then it is the Wedding Spectacular one ship. So that
- 16:02Speaker 2: is what you guys can expect when you guys are
- 16:04Speaker 2: reading this one. I just gotta say it. I love
- 16:10Speaker 2: Daniel Jose the Older. Like, my biggest problem with this
- 16:16Speaker 2: series has been the artwork. The artwork is probably a
- 16:20Speaker 2: little more funky than I would like. Like, I love
- 16:27Speaker 2: Harvey's artwork. He's like the main artist. Dude. Sorry I'm
- 16:35Speaker 2: calling you, dude, But like he does the covers, he
- 16:40Speaker 2: does a lot of the paneling in some instances, but
- 16:43Speaker 2: then there's some other panels where other artists get involved.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Well, like this is Harvey's. This volume in particular, I
- 16:55Speaker 1: think actually diverted from his art style. Yeah, so it looks.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Like hio Philipe illustrated a lot of it.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Yes he did. And guys, this is what happens from
- 17:15Speaker 1: time to time when it comes to long form storytelling
- 17:19Speaker 1: in comics. Yeah, artists need breaks. And it's not that
- 17:26Speaker 1: they can't finish under a deadline. It is literally sometimes
- 17:29Speaker 1: for mental health issues. It is literally for the fact that, like, hey,
- 17:35Speaker 1: artists want to stay on top of their games. So
- 17:37Speaker 1: instead of just killing their arts as the series goes,
- 17:44Speaker 1: you know, to the finish line, they're like, hey, we're
- 17:47Speaker 1: going to do all of the like big story arcs
- 17:50Speaker 1: of this book and some of the minor stuff will
- 17:53Speaker 1: have a guest artists jump on. It just happens.
- 17:58Speaker 2: So yeah, so fairly normal. I just wasn't a super
- 18:03Speaker 2: fan of Kyo's I'm not even certain I'm pronouncing that right, guys,
- 18:09Speaker 2: But he did the artwork for eleven through thirteen. He
- 18:12Speaker 2: did the illustrations, and then Harvey jumped in on the
- 18:15Speaker 2: covers and then some of the paneling for the wedding
- 18:19Speaker 2: spectacular in this issue. But I just love Harvey's artwork
- 18:23Speaker 2: so much that it's just it is very distracting when
- 18:27Speaker 2: another artist jumps in, when you're used to a character
- 18:33Speaker 2: looking in such a way, but now you have just
- 18:37Speaker 2: a completely different look, like oh gosh, I never get
- 18:42Speaker 2: her name right, zine Zine's tendrils. It's always just something
- 18:49Speaker 2: that bugs me, like her hair, tendrils. They just change
- 18:54Speaker 2: between artists, and it's just very weird to me.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I had My big thing was, uh, Zile Zile
- 19:11Speaker 1: team of course is the uh the.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Of the pirate we saw in Phase two?
- 19:21Speaker 1: Yes, uh And every single panel that I that I
- 19:29Speaker 1: saw Zile in Zile looked different in every single panel
- 19:36Speaker 1: on every single page, and there wasn't a lot of consistency.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Uh So that bothered me a lot. And I feel
- 19:46Speaker 1: like the same thing happened with Gavy in a majority
- 19:51Speaker 1: of this story as well. Uh So, just it was
- 19:56Speaker 1: just off. And I know that we don't like to
- 19:59Speaker 1: be negative, but it can be very impactful when it
- 20:04Speaker 1: comes to, like I said, these long form storytellings and comics,
- 20:08Speaker 1: like you are so used to an art style and
- 20:12Speaker 1: then you get to a certain arc in that story
- 20:17Speaker 1: and everything changes, it will turn you off to the story.
- 20:22Speaker 1: It's very distracting as well. So it's a unfortunate, like
- 20:32Speaker 1: reaction to what could simply be a business decision, like
- 20:39Speaker 1: I said, to probably better Harvey's you know, career throughout
- 20:46Speaker 1: this year that he was making this book. But yeah,
- 20:50Speaker 1: it's it's a little unfortunate for that reason. Some positives
- 20:59Speaker 1: for this.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Jose Older writes incredibly.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Well, I love the way that Daniel Hill's a Older
- 21:07Speaker 1: rights these as like mild comedy. Yeah, because there is
- 21:19Speaker 1: a seriousness, a seriousness excuse me, that is with the story.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Of course, because of you're dealing with Nihill, you're dealing
- 21:29Speaker 1: with the inclusion zone, You're dealing with all of these
- 21:32Speaker 1: different things. But like when Gabby was talking about the
- 21:38Speaker 1: Scarlet Skulls and the night Hill, We're gonna show up
- 21:43Speaker 1: and the warden shows up and Gabby's like, we are
- 21:50Speaker 1: your your your your team that will help take over,
- 21:56Speaker 1: and they're like, okay, we also need to find the
- 22:02Speaker 1: rebellion group, so that oh, by the way, we are
- 22:06Speaker 1: also the rebellion group. What He's like, look, let me explain,
- 22:11Speaker 1: and he Gaby explains all this stuff. He's like, we're
- 22:15Speaker 1: actually your group that has infiltrated the rebellions and now
- 22:22Speaker 1: they think like it's it was so silly writing and
- 22:27Speaker 1: like the way that the Warden was reacting. Gold It
- 22:32Speaker 1: was comedic. Gold It. I absolutely loved this part of
- 22:37Speaker 1: the story. I thought it was very, very awesome, but
- 22:40Speaker 1: again just mildly going back to the negative. You have
- 22:44Speaker 1: all of that, right, but then you have the transition
- 22:48Speaker 1: to the second issue, and there was some sort of
- 22:54Speaker 1: thing that happened in between where the Warden found out
- 22:59Speaker 1: and so there was no clear like, oh we've been caught.
- 23:06Speaker 1: It was just all of a sudden, Gabby was, you know,
- 23:10Speaker 1: giving this like warning to the planet and that is why,
- 23:19Speaker 1: Oh shoot, who's the other Jedi Ram. Ram was like, oh,
- 23:24Speaker 1: they need our help and then they go save them.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Yeah, because you have this like big, like one page
- 23:31Speaker 2: shot where it's technically two pages, but it's like this
- 23:37Speaker 2: this this is the second and third to last pages
- 23:43Speaker 2: in the issue. But it's just basically like Ram and
- 23:49Speaker 2: Ziles team are fighting the pirates on the spaceship, but
- 23:53Speaker 2: then you have instances all over the planet where the
- 23:58Speaker 2: Scarlet Skulls are using the rebellion groups and fighting the
- 24:02Speaker 2: nihil That went out because I had to go back
- 24:05Speaker 2: to this several times. But this is meant to be
- 24:07Speaker 2: like a big splash page kind of yeah, but it's
- 24:11Speaker 2: very confusing because it's all over the place. It's just
- 24:16Speaker 2: and I know, I'm not a big comics person. I
- 24:19Speaker 2: don't read. I read mostly Star Wars comics, but especially
- 24:23Speaker 2: with my scan reading brain and looking for the word
- 24:27Speaker 2: bubbles in particular, yeah, and there's also not a lot
- 24:31Speaker 2: of word bubbles.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Yeah, you're you're looking to see what connects and with this,
- 24:35Speaker 1: with that splash page in particular, these volumes I actually
- 24:40Speaker 1: had to purchase digitally. No store in town was going
- 24:46Speaker 1: to have them in time for when we were first
- 24:48Speaker 1: originally planned on buying these books, and then at that
- 24:53Speaker 1: point I had already purchased them online. So I was like, Okay, well,
- 24:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna go ahead and just read these digitally. And
- 25:00Speaker 1: I got to these these two pages, and I read
- 25:04Speaker 1: them both individually, and then I flipped my phone read
- 25:07Speaker 1: them as one whole page, and it was still kind
- 25:10Speaker 1: of all over the place, So it's it's just you know,
- 25:14Speaker 1: an unfortunate like page design editorial, you know, must have
- 25:18Speaker 1: ye been like, hey, this kind of works, let's just
- 25:21Speaker 1: go ahead and move forward with it. So yeah, very unfortunate,
- 25:26Speaker 1: but still overalls, Older's writing absolutely love it. I think
- 25:32Speaker 1: he is great with these characters one other, especially Zile
- 25:39Speaker 1: and Ten.
- 25:40Speaker 2: I think it's Tanana her mom like arguing there, whereas
- 25:45Speaker 2: Zile's like, I don't need your help, Like that's totally
- 25:49Speaker 2: like mother daughter. I've had those arguments with my mom.
- 25:53Speaker 2: I loved seeing that picture of a page.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Yeah no. And but also like, something that's really fun
- 26:00Speaker 1: about that conversation was Zile's mom was just like, oh,
- 26:07Speaker 1: don't worry, we have backup, and then you see the
- 26:10Speaker 1: team from Phase two just run out of the ship.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I thought this was really fun, especially since like this
- 26:20Speaker 1: is genuinely a like a connection from Phase two to
- 26:27Speaker 1: Phase three like we've never really had in the books.
- 26:32Speaker 1: You have, of course, you know, again spoilers for Phase
- 26:37Speaker 1: three novels, but the fact that Marchion can you know,
- 26:42Speaker 1: see Marta Road like that was the closest thing to
- 26:45Speaker 1: a Phase two connection directly to Phase three, whereas this
- 26:51Speaker 1: you have all of the same crew coming back to
- 26:56Speaker 1: the exact same comic line, which is the Was Adventures.
- 27:01Speaker 1: So I think this was really helpful with people who
- 27:05Speaker 1: were reading this religiously with buying the Adventures comics, and
- 27:12Speaker 1: I thought it was really fun. Yeah you have uh,
- 27:18Speaker 1: oh shoot, what is his name? Uh, the Jedi that
- 27:23Speaker 1: was obsessed with trying to get the ship back Farzala, Yes, Barsala.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Uh.
- 27:34Speaker 1: They were like and and they even acknowledged They're like, hey,
- 27:37Speaker 1: I know, I'm a Jedi. I'm not supposed to have
- 27:40Speaker 1: these types of like connections to things, but this was
- 27:44Speaker 1: my home at one point. Blah blah blah.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:47Speaker 1: I we've talked about this all throughout the High Republic.
- 27:52Speaker 1: The out of the normal quote unquote connections and attachments
- 27:58Speaker 1: that would have an are forbidden in the Jedi order. Nowadays,
- 28:06Speaker 1: in modern Star Wars, we've loved those connections and attachments
- 28:11Speaker 1: in the High Republic because they treat them differently. There
- 28:16Speaker 1: is just a different light around those attachments in these storytellings,
- 28:25Speaker 1: and I really like it. It makes them feel a
- 28:32Speaker 1: little more quote unquote human. So I love that part
- 28:38Speaker 1: of the story. Davy's quote unquote sister, old best friend,
- 28:46Speaker 1: turn nemesis rigid. Nowhere to be seen in this book.
- 28:53Speaker 3: We're to go into our second ad break and we'll
- 28:57Speaker 3: be right back.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Where to crash though.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Yes, but nowhere to be seen here with Gavy, which
- 29:11Speaker 1: is I believe, unless there is there a volume four.
- 29:15Speaker 2: So there's a volume four and a volume five.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Oh my god, I thought three was literally the last okay.
- 29:21Speaker 2: And a list of wongs one shut the Battle of
- 29:25Speaker 2: Erie I do. The cover features Drigget and Gabby.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Okay, okay, so we will eventually get there. It just
- 29:36Speaker 1: really feels like, because again we are post Trials of
- 29:39Speaker 1: the Jedi. I thought for the most part we were
- 29:41Speaker 1: going to be wrapping up all of these stories. Apparently not.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Well, this is what happens when and Or decides to
- 29:49Speaker 2: drop twelve episodes in a month, and that.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Is all that is. That is also true. But you know, last,
- 29:58Speaker 1: but not least, the the wedding special at the very
- 30:03Speaker 1: end of this.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I'm so happy they did this.
- 30:08Speaker 1: This was fun. I really enjoyed this. Yeah, what what
- 30:14Speaker 1: like tell me about like, how did you feel about
- 30:18Speaker 1: all of the little things that we're kind of going
- 30:20Speaker 1: into this. There is like seemingly a little bit of
- 30:24Speaker 1: Easter eggs for those of us who have technically read
- 30:28Speaker 1: Trials of the Jedi, because they are mentioning, you know,
- 30:34Speaker 1: how they're gearing up for the Battle of Rriado and
- 30:37Speaker 1: everything else. These characters, yeah, were mentioned in Trials of
- 30:43Speaker 1: the Jedi spoilers there, but.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Yeah, like you have, like I love that we got
- 30:50Speaker 2: matted buckets of blood. He doesn't make an appearance. I
- 30:54Speaker 2: was so sad by.
- 30:55Speaker 1: This reading this, Okay, Okay, I guess originally this was
- 31:01Speaker 1: the big spoiler that I was gonna talk about. So guys,
- 31:03Speaker 1: if you haven't read, if you haven't read Trials' the Jedi,
- 31:06Speaker 1: skip like five to ten minutes because I don't know
- 31:09Speaker 1: how long I'm gonna talk about this, Okay, So three
- 31:13Speaker 1: two one spoiler talk Katie. I as soon as the
- 31:20Speaker 1: freaking Holow projector showed buckets, I wanted to just ball
- 31:24Speaker 1: my eyes out. I didn't. I didn't even read the
- 31:27Speaker 1: dialogue yet. I was so sad that this is technically
- 31:35Speaker 1: before because we did see uh. It was literally uh
- 31:41Speaker 1: a yaddle that says in like the panel beforehand. Oh,
- 31:46Speaker 1: by the way, Buckets is in a top secret mission
- 31:49Speaker 1: for the Order right now, and then immediately goes into
- 31:54Speaker 1: this recording of Buckets and he's all happy and stuff.
- 31:59Speaker 1: I wanted to ball my eyes out.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Well, okay, but you didn't read this because I've read
- 32:06Speaker 2: this before we got trials.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Oh no, so you I.
- 32:13Speaker 2: So rereading this today. I was like, oh, my gosh,
- 32:18Speaker 2: like I forgot about this. It was so the.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Fact the fact that he is like so happy, and
- 32:30Speaker 1: it's like so proud of them for like showing as
- 32:36Speaker 1: an example of their love and all this other stuff,
- 32:39Speaker 1: and it's just like, oh, he's gonna see them again.
- 32:41Speaker 1: It's gonna be great, and he's gonna be able to
- 32:44Speaker 1: embrace them after this mission that he has no No.
- 32:50Speaker 2: That hurt my soul and it just like I'm tearing
- 32:55Speaker 2: up now. I'm just thinking about it. It's so sad
- 32:59Speaker 2: it is, and I do like, oh.
- 33:05Speaker 1: The saving, the saving grace I believe is at the
- 33:12Speaker 1: end of this, because yes, we have that sad moment
- 33:17Speaker 1: with Buckets, but at the very end we do get
- 33:24Speaker 1: Master Cantum.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Which I love because Yaddle specifically says Cantum is off
- 33:33Speaker 2: to uh he's on a mission to Pharys, which is
- 33:38Speaker 2: an and or reference, and he's dealing with a hostage negotiation,
- 33:46Speaker 2: so he is like unable to attend that he didn't
- 33:50Speaker 2: send a message, but he does gets to make an appearance,
- 33:52Speaker 2: and that like having Lula be able to have her
- 33:56Speaker 2: master who completely understands why she's leaving Jedi Order because
- 34:01Speaker 2: he left initially, we know that from Midnight Horizon, and
- 34:05Speaker 2: so her getting to have that.
- 34:08Speaker 4: Conversation it is like truly epic in look, I did
- 34:15Speaker 4: cry reading his message because, like he says, like the
- 34:20Speaker 4: path of a Jedi cause for commitment and sacrifice.
- 34:23Speaker 1: The path of.
- 34:24Speaker 2: One who leaves the Order is no different because it
- 34:28Speaker 2: is like you're sacrificing the commitment to everybody that you've
- 34:33Speaker 2: known for your entire life, and it's making honestly like
- 34:40Speaker 2: it's a selfish decision, but it's also a self list
- 34:43Speaker 2: because you know, if you stuck around, you wouldn't be
- 34:46Speaker 2: able to commit the same as everybody else around you,
- 34:50Speaker 2: and that's not fair to them. So I love this.
- 34:54Speaker 2: I love that he like got to officiate technically, but
- 34:59Speaker 2: then like the Targan girl gets to like do it.
- 35:02Speaker 1: So yeah, but I love how this was kind of
- 35:08Speaker 1: the ending of volume three instead of just like a
- 35:13Speaker 1: like a random like middle story and then we go
- 35:16Speaker 1: back to stuff. I feel like having this in the
- 35:20Speaker 1: end really kind of put a uh like a cherry
- 35:27Speaker 1: on top and it's just like, hey, we're gonna go
- 35:30Speaker 1: off on a high note here, yeah, uh not doom
- 35:35Speaker 1: and gloom and everything else. I really like that, especially
- 35:38Speaker 1: like evokes back to.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Was it it was oh gosh, my shelf that was
- 35:48Speaker 2: right there with all of them. It was convergence or
- 35:51Speaker 2: catachlis on one of the two with the wedding at
- 35:55Speaker 2: the end, or was the Battle of Jedda, you get
- 35:57Speaker 2: what I'm saying. The phase two it evokes back to this.
- 36:00Speaker 2: But I especially loved this final page with Harvey's artwork
- 36:03Speaker 2: on it. It's the kiss, It's fantastic, and the crowd
- 36:09Speaker 2: cheers for light and wife.
- 36:12Speaker 1: I thought that was well. I think it was because
- 36:15Speaker 1: I love that line because like literally the page before
- 36:20Speaker 1: they're like okay, like we all practiced, like it was
- 36:23Speaker 1: something like they had rehearsed. I thought was really hilarious.
- 36:26Speaker 1: So yeah, very cute, very fun. I thought that this
- 36:31Speaker 1: was very much worth it. I am very curious to
- 36:38Speaker 1: see how their story ends, because like, you can't say
- 36:49Speaker 1: this is the ending. We have we literally have two
- 36:55Speaker 1: more volumes. Now you can say this is the ending
- 36:58Speaker 1: and that you just never hear from them again, and
- 37:01Speaker 1: we can all and we can all just assume, oh,
- 37:04Speaker 1: they lived happily ever after and all of this other stuff.
- 37:09Speaker 1: But I've been hurt by Star Wars too many times
- 37:12Speaker 1: and I know I know that, but like.
- 37:17Speaker 2: I've all, we've also seen Daniel jose Olders cover for
- 37:21Speaker 2: the final issue, so I'm not gonna say what it is,
- 37:26Speaker 2: but we've talked about it, so there is hope.
- 37:30Speaker 1: At least hold on, hold on, because I'm pretty sure
- 37:34Speaker 1: it actually shows up here. Oh yeah, there we go. Yep, yeah, okay,
- 37:41Speaker 1: very true, very true. But yeah, let's go ahead and
- 37:46Speaker 1: move on to uh, Star Wars. The High republic.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Crash The High Republicans crashed them, so, guys. Volume collects
- 38:03Speaker 2: issues done by Daniel Jose Older, Justina Ireland, Alyssa Long Cabin,
- 38:07Speaker 2: Scott's The Right of Cordova, and Charles and Rosemary Soul.
- 38:11Speaker 2: The volume collect the one shots Crash and Burn, Crash Stone,
- 38:19Speaker 2: and the annual one shots. And you know, I love Alyssa.
- 38:25Speaker 2: I love their I love their doctor Afra Run. I've
- 38:36Speaker 2: loved some of the other work that they've done. I
- 38:41Speaker 2: don't know. I'm just not a I really struggle with
- 38:47Speaker 2: Crash as a character.
- 38:50Speaker 1: I am going to be a very bad host and
- 38:57Speaker 1: I feel like a very bad Star Wars.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Okay, well, okay, hang on, I have to correct myself. First.
- 39:05Speaker 2: I said that Alyssa Long wrote the Crash Zone one shots,
- 39:10Speaker 2: they did not actually take them as they Older brote these.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Dan so well, I want to go ahead and say this, Katie.
- 39:19Speaker 1: I read because I'm actually looking at it right now.
- 39:25Speaker 1: It says there's one hundred and sixteen pages in this volume.
- 39:30Speaker 1: I read seventy five pages of this volume, and within
- 39:38Speaker 1: seventy five pages, I said, when did Crash get introduced?
- 39:48Speaker 1: Because I was reading this book and I was like,
- 39:55Speaker 1: I don't remember this character at all. I am not
- 39:58Speaker 1: connecting with this character. I don't know what it is.
- 40:04Speaker 1: So like, I agree, there is a disconnect here, and
- 40:08Speaker 1: I don't know if it is something. Because again, we
- 40:12Speaker 1: literally everybody literally said, wow, Daniel jlse Older is perfect
- 40:18Speaker 1: for this type of storytelling, for this age group and
- 40:21Speaker 1: everything else. This story, though I was just stone faced
- 40:29Speaker 1: through this and just reading it, just to read it.
- 40:33Speaker 1: It felt like I was a little hurt by not
- 40:41Speaker 1: having any real emotion or connection to this character.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and I feel like, I don't know, maybe they
- 40:52Speaker 2: just were like, oh, Crash is like a character that
- 40:58Speaker 2: hit with people. I'm they had, And this is why
- 41:01Speaker 2: I had Alyssa wrote these comics in my head is
- 41:05Speaker 2: because Alyssa wrote the story that introduced the Galaxy eyes.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Dude, holy crap. Hold on, Crash was the character in
- 41:21Speaker 1: Midnight Horizon. Midnight Horizon that helped ram and Ramath Yes, okay, yeah, okay,
- 41:36Speaker 1: like now it finally hit me.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, Clay, And I will tell you I do
- 41:42Speaker 2: the exact same thing. I have to go look up
- 41:45Speaker 2: characters on Wikipedia all the time to remind myself. It's
- 41:48Speaker 2: a resource. It's really good. I just have to address this, Kevin.
- 41:55Speaker 2: I don't remember where we said that it wasn't for everybody.
- 41:58Speaker 2: We do believe that stars just for everybody. So I
- 42:01Speaker 2: don't know if you're trolling or what.
- 42:04Speaker 1: I think. I think it may have been a comment
- 42:07Speaker 1: of talking about are like the beginning of Crash Zone.
- 42:16Speaker 1: I think it was something there, but like I I
- 42:22Speaker 1: we don't have a problem with this book in particular, Kevin,
- 42:26Speaker 1: I just want to go ahead and say that it
- 42:28Speaker 1: is the disconnect that we had with the character Crash.
- 42:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and maybe if it had been put into like
- 42:39Speaker 2: the High Republic Adventures volumes itself and like lined up
- 42:44Speaker 2: with where it happens in the timeline, then maybe it
- 42:48Speaker 2: would make a little more sense. Because Lula does make
- 42:51Speaker 2: an appearance, you also have Zeen, so it's there. But
- 42:56Speaker 2: because it's its own separate volume, I think that's where
- 43:00Speaker 2: it inherently struggles a little bit more. And maybe it
- 43:05Speaker 2: is just because hey, we know there's going to be
- 43:08Speaker 2: a disconnect, so like we just want to separate it
- 43:11Speaker 2: out and so people can go back and plug it
- 43:14Speaker 2: in as they see fit.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Oh so yeah, I also want to call out just
- 43:21Speaker 1: because we did call it out in the first volume
- 43:25Speaker 1: that we talked about the art style of the first
- 43:31Speaker 1: story this is uh raquel Aragno not my favorite. I
- 43:40Speaker 1: love the colors, I love the palette of the book.
- 43:45Speaker 1: I was not a huge fan of the art of
- 43:50Speaker 1: this first story.
- 43:52Speaker 2: See, I actually didn't mind the artwork as much, so
- 43:56Speaker 2: I will disagree with you there. Uh the colors are
- 43:59Speaker 2: definitely by Brant. Michael Tea did those, but I felt
- 44:05Speaker 2: like the artwork was a little more consistent.
- 44:09Speaker 1: It is consistent, I think for me personally though it
- 44:13Speaker 1: is and to each their own art is subjective. I
- 44:18Speaker 1: think the art style for the first story is too simple,
- 44:23Speaker 1: very simple lindes not a lot of detail, uh see.
- 44:31Speaker 2: And I kind of explained it away because I felt
- 44:34Speaker 2: like it fit Crash and her gang, because I felt
- 44:38Speaker 2: like the artwork was a little rugged, and.
- 44:41Speaker 1: That I do agree with. Like if if you, if
- 44:44Speaker 1: some were to make the comparison between the storytelling decision
- 44:50Speaker 1: of the art style versus the characters that the story
- 44:54Speaker 1: is talking about, I would one hundred percent agree it
- 44:59Speaker 1: relates very well with you know, them coinciding with each other.
- 45:05Speaker 1: But to also get that story and then immediately jump
- 45:11Speaker 1: into uh Nick broken Shire's art immediately after, it is
- 45:19Speaker 1: like night and day. It is it is. It is
- 45:23Speaker 1: reading Captain Underpants versus like a Marvel Max issue, Like
- 45:28Speaker 1: it is completely different tonal wise as well. You have
- 45:33Speaker 1: a lot of grittiness, you have Immon's detail on facial expressions,
- 45:39Speaker 1: the whole nine. So I think that's what gets me
- 45:43Speaker 1: a little kind of weirded out in some of these
- 45:47Speaker 1: uh and and this is the kind of the same
- 45:49Speaker 1: conversation that we're talking about in UH volume three UH
- 45:53Speaker 1: of Adventures. It just it's just what happens now. This
- 45:57Speaker 1: one in particular, because I do believe this is a
- 46:02Speaker 1: series of one shots rather than an ongoing series, you're
- 46:07Speaker 1: gonna have more of that problem because you're not commissioning,
- 46:13Speaker 1: as what is this stark Horse, You're not commissioning the
- 46:19Speaker 1: same art team to be like, hey, you're gonna do
- 46:22Speaker 1: every single one of these one shots. That's not usually
- 46:25Speaker 1: what happens in the business of comics. It can, but
- 46:30Speaker 1: not usually. So when you're looking at this story, like
- 46:34Speaker 1: I said, you go from one art style to another
- 46:38Speaker 1: in the same book, it can sometimes be off putting.
- 46:42Speaker 1: It can sometimes be a little bit of a breather,
- 46:45Speaker 1: depending how crazy the art style is compared to the
- 46:50Speaker 1: tone of what the next story is. But nicks Or
- 46:57Speaker 1: I really really liked because at that point I could
- 47:00Speaker 1: see and understand some of the facial expressions comparatively to
- 47:05Speaker 1: what I couldn't really understand in the first stories. Our style,
- 47:11Speaker 1: which is.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Interesting because it's the same artist. So I think it's
- 47:14Speaker 2: also illustrating the team's growth and expansion, Like I really
- 47:20Speaker 2: feel like cal really wanted to tell her side of
- 47:24Speaker 2: the story that way.
- 47:26Speaker 3: And we're about to jump into our third ad. Y'all,
- 47:30Speaker 3: we promise we'll be right back.
- 47:32Speaker 2: We promise.
- 47:33Speaker 1: I still enjoyed, like because Daniel still has that storytelling
- 47:44Speaker 1: that I was talking about in the first one in
- 47:46Speaker 1: volume three with the on point comedic relief because there's
- 47:51Speaker 1: one point where there are when they're going through the
- 47:54Speaker 1: occlusion zone and I think it was crash that was like,
- 47:59Speaker 1: just say it already, just just say it and they're like,
- 48:02Speaker 1: what what do you want us to say? And they're like, oh, yeah,
- 48:06Speaker 1: we knew this was gonna happen like that, the very
- 48:09Speaker 1: funny scene, very classic. I feel like Daniel jose Older
- 48:13Speaker 1: in his run through the dark Horse Star Wars Adventure stuff.
- 48:20Speaker 1: So I really like this. There was just characters that
- 48:25Speaker 1: I either completely forgot didn't have connection with everything else
- 48:29Speaker 1: like that. But then you get some of the stuff
- 48:32Speaker 1: that is the other one shots the annual, the Annual
- 48:40Speaker 1: at the very end here and let me actually scroll
- 48:43Speaker 1: to that, uh, because I believe it's the.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Yeah, so you have short stories by Justina Ireland, Alisa
- 48:55Speaker 2: Long Cavin Scott's write a cord of that and Charles
- 48:58Speaker 2: and Rosemary Soul, so like you have like the front
- 49:04Speaker 2: issue is actually like a Jungling's story, and so that
- 49:09Speaker 2: one is with h Charles and Rosemary, and it feels
- 49:14Speaker 2: like it's a very young Lula story kind of thing.
- 49:19Speaker 2: But like all the younglings get to go to the movies,
- 49:22Speaker 2: I kind of feel like.
- 49:24Speaker 1: So it's like, yeah, it's a lot of fun. It's
- 49:27Speaker 1: something that we haven't really gotten to see in the
- 49:31Speaker 1: world of Star Wars. We haven't seen movie theaters yet.
- 49:34Speaker 1: This is I think legitimately the first time we are
- 49:37Speaker 1: seeing a movie theater within the Star Wars universe. But again,
- 49:42Speaker 1: getting to see Buckets of Blood again warms my heart
- 49:46Speaker 1: as well as saddens it as well as uh getting
- 49:51Speaker 1: to see Driggett immediately after and in the story that's
- 49:56Speaker 1: right next to that, So I there are moments that
- 50:02Speaker 1: we do enjoy in this book that I really enjoyed
- 50:08Speaker 1: in this book. Of course, we get to see Truro
- 50:14Speaker 1: in this story again.
- 50:16Speaker 2: This Driggots was Alyssa's Okay, yeah, so Zorrita wrote the
- 50:23Speaker 2: Truro story, which is a vibrant, full of color, like
- 50:27Speaker 2: it's a lot of fun.
- 50:29Speaker 1: I really liked the color palette of Zorida's story. It
- 50:37Speaker 1: did really like if you were to go grab your
- 50:40Speaker 1: copy of Oh, shoot, is it Fear the Nameless? I
- 50:48Speaker 1: believe it is. Yes, yes, if you were to literally
- 50:54Speaker 1: grab Fear the Nameless and then put these Beware the Nameless,
- 51:01Speaker 1: I knew something that the Nameless.
- 51:04Speaker 2: Uh.
- 51:04Speaker 1: If you were to literally put these pages up to
- 51:07Speaker 1: that book, it literally feels like they would go together.
- 51:12Speaker 1: And I think that is more so just because of
- 51:15Speaker 1: just the writers like storytelling, the of course coordination with
- 51:22Speaker 1: the artist here, which, by the way, the artist on
- 51:26Speaker 1: this one is is there a credits page here that
- 51:31Speaker 1: will actually tell me who?
- 51:33Speaker 2: So it's at the front, and I think it's an order.
- 51:39Speaker 1: I didn't know if it was an order or not.
- 51:40Speaker 1: That's why I didn't say it.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Fairly certain it's an order. So the first one is
- 51:45Speaker 2: illustrated by Anti Dugan, The second one, which is Driggs,
- 51:49Speaker 2: is Leana Kanngas so the third which is Juan Samu.
- 51:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Nick Brockenshire does Calvin Scott's and Colin Creeker does Justina Ireland.
- 52:06Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, yeah, but I, like you said, vibrant colors
- 52:11Speaker 1: on the Truro story, a lot of purples and greens
- 52:15Speaker 1: and yellows, but it has a lot of the wacky
- 52:19Speaker 1: stuff when it really calls for it, which I really
- 52:21Speaker 1: really love, really dug that story.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Also, Yep, Cavin Scott's is creepy as fuck, I'm gonna
- 52:37Speaker 2: say it.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Which I can appreciate. So when we are usually and
- 52:44Speaker 1: I say we, let me back up as somebody who
- 52:52Speaker 1: really didn't used to read Cavin Scott's prior to The
- 52:58Speaker 1: High Republic. To myself personally, Scavin Scott was never a
- 53:06Speaker 1: creepy horror suspense writer.
- 53:10Speaker 2: Which is funny considering he does the Halloween story for
- 53:14Speaker 2: Star Wars exactly.
- 53:15Speaker 1: No, no, no, like that is like he does Vaders Castle, right,
- 53:20Speaker 1: he like that's like his really big thing, and but
- 53:27Speaker 1: a lot of the stuff that he was being attached
- 53:29Speaker 1: to outside of of Marvel, even DC, he was doing
- 53:39Speaker 1: like very nostalgic, can't be teen Titan stuff. Yeah, So
- 53:44Speaker 1: it's like his his writing style is kind of all
- 53:48Speaker 1: over the place at times. To get this, I really
- 53:54Speaker 1: enjoyed because it was a pocket that I'd never seen
- 53:58Speaker 1: Cavin in personally, so I thought that was really fun.
- 54:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and this story is about Baron Bullen and the
- 54:09Speaker 2: creation of his first child of the Storm, the Nameless
- 54:14Speaker 2: Infused one. And I just want to highlight this final page,
- 54:18Speaker 2: like where you have ciitaris you have a tar which
- 54:22Speaker 2: is like the maiden character here and then I'm assuming
- 54:26Speaker 2: this one over here, this one is the Tears of
- 54:31Speaker 2: the Nameless Guy.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Uh? Was he not.
- 54:37Speaker 2: In the like?
- 54:42Speaker 1: But wasn't wasn't Licos in the main High Republic Star
- 54:49Speaker 1: Wars red because wasn't he the one? I thought he
- 54:56Speaker 1: was the one that initially a act when Lorna Dee
- 55:04Speaker 1: Uh was like outed as the one who uh killed
- 55:12Speaker 1: that one Hut family member, Like in the.
- 55:16Speaker 2: First it does look like, yeah, okay, so you're right
- 55:22Speaker 2: he was. Uh he was not in Tears of the
- 55:25Speaker 2: Name list. He's in the High Republic main run and
- 55:28Speaker 2: Tempest Breaker Breaker.
- 55:30Speaker 1: That's what I was. Yeah, I was like, I I
- 55:36Speaker 1: could have sworn I saw that big forehead somewhere, like
- 55:38Speaker 1: I I recognize that forehead anywhere. But yeah, love the
- 55:43Speaker 1: the panel page. Love the creepy scratchy art style to
- 55:49Speaker 1: this as well. And of course because Bolin is the
- 55:54Speaker 1: mad scientist, you had this like small little taste of
- 55:58Speaker 1: like frank Stein and Frankenstein's Monster here. Yeah, like it
- 56:04Speaker 1: felt like old school horror, which which I really appreciated.
- 56:10Speaker 1: But last, but not least is Christina Ireland's Stina Ireland
- 56:18Speaker 1: with a Vernestra story.
- 56:20Speaker 3: And this should be our final ad break. So y'all
- 56:25Speaker 3: thanks for bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be
- 56:27Speaker 3: right back.
- 56:29Speaker 1: Uh. This is titled Stellam's Wisdom. Katie, how'd you feel
- 56:34Speaker 1: about the story?
- 56:35Speaker 2: I love this. This was short and sweet. I feel
- 56:38Speaker 2: like maybe this is Vernestra meditating after her conversation with
- 56:43Speaker 2: els Are at the beginning of Trials of the Jedi,
- 56:47Speaker 2: and it's just kind of it's just kind of like
- 56:54Speaker 2: settling Vernestra down and like it's giving her the context
- 57:00Speaker 2: that she couldn't get in Trials of the Jedi. And
- 57:03Speaker 2: to be clear, I don't blame Charles Soul for the
- 57:06Speaker 2: lack of Vernestra. I think that's a story group issue
- 57:10Speaker 2: mainly because obviously there's only so many characters that you
- 57:13Speaker 2: can tackle, and when you highlight such a character, am
- 57:21Speaker 2: I back?
- 57:22Speaker 1: Yeah, you're good. You're good.
- 57:24Speaker 2: Okay.
- 57:24Speaker 1: I literally had YouTube on the side just to see
- 57:28Speaker 1: how much it like wigged out. So you're good, You're good.
- 57:35Speaker 2: So I feel like this is for Nostra's highlighting moment
- 57:40Speaker 2: in Trials of the Jedi, just kind of giving her
- 57:44Speaker 2: the area that she's due. I also feel like, isn't
- 57:51Speaker 2: this so at the end of oh gosh, what's it called.
- 58:02Speaker 1: Yack the Life Story Valiant Vow? Yeah, where.
- 58:09Speaker 2: Emory is with his new padawan and they go to
- 58:15Speaker 2: the pilgrimage, I feel like this is the same pilgrimage,
- 58:18Speaker 2: is it not?
- 58:19Speaker 1: Oh with tap tip, Yeah, I can see that. Yeah,
- 58:29Speaker 1: actually probably that that would make sense.
- 58:35Speaker 2: Actually, okay, it is not currently said to be, but
- 58:43Speaker 2: I know what. He takes her to a pilgrimage at
- 58:45Speaker 2: the end, and I can't remember. But rereading this, I'm like,
- 58:49Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to go back and look. But it's
- 58:51Speaker 2: not Valiant Vow is not referenced on the article page. Okay,
- 58:57Speaker 2: so oh, but yeah, I thought this was short sweet.
- 59:03Speaker 2: Obviously Justine is kind of cycling out of Star Wars,
- 59:08Speaker 2: but I felt like this was still a good story,
- 59:12Speaker 2: giving Vernestra some peace in a high temper moment. Obviously
- 59:16Speaker 2: we don't exactly know when this is, but she says
- 59:22Speaker 2: on the eve of the last battle, Like, I feel
- 59:25Speaker 2: like that's what it is.
- 59:27Speaker 1: Yeah, And also like this does set up a minor
- 59:32Speaker 1: precedent for her visions in the Acolyte story that we
- 59:41Speaker 1: had just recently reviewed last month. Gosh, was it last
- 59:46Speaker 1: month or the month prior to that? It's been time
- 59:50Speaker 1: is non existent for me, so I apologize it's insane,
- 59:55Speaker 1: but there is a small precedent with the story and
- 59:58Speaker 1: how she connects with Stellin via those visions and everything else.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: How also, like in that story we talked about, and
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: it explains how she has these connections not as something
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: to hold on to as like something like super precious
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: and have like this unhealthy attachment to, but something that
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: literally helps her become a better Jedi. Yeah, and this
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: is kind of just like foreshadowing some of that, which
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I really enjoy and also like very like And again
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: I feel like this sounds negative, but it really isn't,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: especially not for this art style simplistically flat and that
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: is literally depth wise not necessarily like black wise. Like
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: I love the colors, I love the shading, and they
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: don't try to do anything super crazy with the art,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: and I think this is, yeah, especially for the tone
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: and how short it is. I'm glad that they didn't
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: try to go all crazy, you know, all out everything else.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Very simple yellow greens, purple blues, like it's just like
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: boom boom boom, you know.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: Yeah, And guys, we say short this is, and I
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: feel like the other parts of this may be along
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: the same length. This one just feels kind of because
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: you actually feel it in density because the end of
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: the issue, so it's four pages, but Justina Ireland does
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: a really good job with it.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: So yeah, for sure, but all right.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: To a close.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: Yeah, Like Katie had said earlier, we still have volumes
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: four and five of the main run of adventures, as
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: well as what we do plan on having as a
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: more of a filler episode for Star Wars Alliance is
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: the two novels or two comics I should say, being distatches.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: From the Occlusion Zone and Echoes.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Of Fear and Echoes of Fear Yes.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: Which are all key points to Trials Jedi Yes.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: And I do feel like those two books in particular
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: will probably have a little bit of a more drawn
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: out conversation pieces, whereas this was kind of just hitting
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: highlighted moments, So expect that to be in our Patreon.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Actually somewhat soon, I'll have to go back to our.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: We haven't set a date on that.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: We haven't set a date. Yeah, we haven't set a date,
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: but we have been talking about it, and I know
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: that we did conversate about it being a filler episode
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: in case we need to ever, you know, drop a
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: random episode from time to time.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: This guy's life is just crazy.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: It has been very crazy, very recently, so you can
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: expect that, you know, sometime within the next month, I'm sure.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: But yeah, with that, guys, that'll be it for the episode.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Of course, you can always find me at fanboy play
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: on Blue Sky Threads Instagram. I have not been reading
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: and it's been hurting my heart. I was on a
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: really good reading streak for the first part of this
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: year and it has gone crashing down. Uh. We're actually
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: gonna be reviewing the bad Batch novel here for soon
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: and now I'm gonna have to scramble the next few
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: days to finish it day. But also, actually, you know,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep that one a secret. I just shared
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: a photo with Katie. For our next Patreon series, I'll
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: give a little tease at that, which I am actually
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: very much looking forward to. So guys, for any of
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: y'all who are on our Patreon, expect to have a
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: somewhat decent list of Star Wars content in months to come,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: So that'll be fun. But yeah, over at Ranger Alliance.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: For myself, Jake and I just recently covered I almost
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: think are halfway point of this new season of the
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: Super Sentai series that we're currently watching, So go check
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: that out. Very intense as far as theorizing goes. It's
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: been very fun watching that series with Jake and Joe. Uh,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: So go check that out on the way Feed. Uh
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: but yeah, that's it for me, Katie. Will watch yourself, y'all.
