- 0:00Believe the Mets are going to give him a significant You're
- 0:02going to have a ton of money to spend.
- 0:04Why not pulling in one of the top three offensive players in
- 0:07the league? We're going to be looking at
- 0:17Aaron Judge and saying that he can't win the big game, Michael
- 0:20Jordan said. I played 80. 2.
- 0:22Games. You don't see LeBron doing that
- 0:24a game. Where you got to go for four?
- 0:27I told you, giant feet. Saquon Barkley at.
- 0:31This point. Let's do it.
- 1:30You're listening to Java and the mouth.
- 1:33Mouth. Welcome, welcome.
- 1:40Welcome, everybody to another episode of Jabba and the Mouth.
- 1:46I'm filling in here, Aaron Fishman filling in for the one
- 1:49and only Errol Marx on a cruise right now, but we're still here
- 1:52live with Speedy PD and Jabba Chamberlain on scene from Omaha,
- 1:58the College World Series. What's up, boys?
- 2:01What's happening? What's going on, guys?
- 2:03Well, tonight is a very special edition.
- 2:05Again, Errol is on vacation. He doesn't take many of them,
- 2:09but he trusts us enough to to do so.
- 2:12He's on a cruise. So I want to start off talking a
- 2:15little bit about cruises. Guys, if you are going to
- 2:17interested in calling in tonight before we get into any of that
- 2:19stuff, we're not going to do it through the phones.
- 2:22You have to get a link through Stream Yard.
- 2:24So please reach out on socials and text if you're trying to get
- 2:27involved into it. And we'll have you guys contact
- 2:30back and forth in DMS and we'll try to get one of you on.
- 2:32Thank you as well. Our first comments are Sean
- 2:35Browning subscribing to our page as well.
- 2:37Yeah, we saw some comments. People want to have more
- 2:39callers. Well, it's just a little bit
- 2:41tricky. You know, we have, some of us
- 2:42are in upstate New York, some of us are out in Long Island.
- 2:45We got people in Nebraska. It's a little bit tricky to also
- 2:49have a phone call and go through the system.
- 2:51So we'd like to try to do more of that going forward.
- 2:53Absolutely, for sure. So we welcome everybody that's
- 2:56coming in. Look, this is the day after
- 3:00Father's Day. We're going to have a little bit
- 3:01of Father's Day talk in the middle of this episode tonight.
- 3:04A lot of interesting stories we'll get to later.
- 3:06But first, Jabba, how many cruises have you ever been on?
- 3:12I've actually never been on a cruise.
- 3:15So I've been on a few speedy You go.
- 3:17Ever go on a cruise to your family?
- 3:19I have not. Speedy, I don't.
- 3:21I think you would love a cruise. It's like you're in like an
- 3:25indoor mall and they have like places to party inside.
- 3:29They have casinos inside. They got all you can eat
- 3:32throughout the entire place and the everyone's mission is just
- 3:35to be hammered the entire time and sit out by the pool when
- 3:38it's nice out and dance and party when it's when it's dark.
- 3:42Out I've been on. I've been on a few boats I've
- 3:44been on. When I was in Maine back in 2022
- 3:48I went whale watching and did a fishing boat.
- 3:52One of the other times when I was in 2013 and we actually
- 3:54encountered a bald eagle pretty close to us.
- 3:56But no, never been on a cruise. Bald eagle.
- 3:59Yeah, there's actually a bunch of bald eagles up by where I
- 4:01coach football by West Point. You see them sometimes driving
- 4:04up in the fall, which is really cool.
- 4:08The, the interns are, are right on top of this in the chat.
- 4:11Errol doesn't drink yet. He's on the cruise right now.
- 4:14And I, I when I was 19, I went on a no booze cruise with my
- 4:17family. Do you think that's something a
- 4:2019 year old just finished freshman year college is
- 4:22interested in doing? Doesn't seem like it.
- 4:26What was the circumstance? The circumstances it was, oh, we
- 4:29have a trip, let's go. We'll have, I think it was like
- 4:32Cozumel, Mexico, but as you just stop there for a day, you don't
- 4:35get to actually go to Cozumel. You don't get to experience much
- 4:38culture unless you do like these excursions.
- 4:41And we got to go to like Mayan ruins and it was really cool.
- 4:43But I didn't really appreciate it because I was 18 or 19 and
- 4:47all I want to do is party and I'm there with my parents and
- 4:51there was like nothing to do. My little brother, there were a
- 4:53bunch of little kids running around.
- 4:54He had a great time. I was talking to him about it at
- 4:56Father's Day. He came on over, We grilled up
- 4:58some food, some shish kebabs. I've got into big shish kebab
- 5:02kick recently. Marinate them and some teriyaki
- 5:05marinade I make myself. You get they always seem to come
- 5:08out good. You know, just some vegetables.
- 5:09Pineapple by the way, pineapple and and teriyaki sauce.
- 5:12Match made in heaven. I don't know if you ever knew
- 5:14that, guys. Interesting.
- 5:16I will give a shout out to our intern Zach with the word of the
- 5:19day, Philosophobia. Yeah, What?
- 5:22I Zach, why don't you turn your camera on just for a second?
- 5:25Because you got to tell us this word.
- 5:27I've never heard this before. I do.
- 5:29I I have taught AP history and I thought I've seen pretty much
- 5:32everything in an essay. What?
- 5:34What's pronounced this and tell us what this is.
- 5:37So the last of phobia is a fear of very deep water.
- 5:42It stems from the movie Jaws because I'm terrified of sharks,
- 5:46which has nothing to do with deep water, but.
- 5:48So does Errol. Errol is also terrified of
- 5:50sharks, another reason why this is a crazy trip for him.
- 5:53Yeah, like I'm like, I find sharks so fascinating.
- 5:56I find any sea creature fascinating, but I won't go in
- 5:59the sea because I just, if I can't touch the bottom of
- 6:03something, I'm not going in it. I'm just not.
- 6:05I don't like it. Like I remember 2 summers ago I
- 6:08went out to the beach with my friends who surf and they wanted
- 6:12to go to the sandbar. And those of you who don't know
- 6:17what a sandbar is, it's basically like a pile of sand
- 6:20kind of far out in the water. And I didn't realize how far out
- 6:23it was. And I started swimming and I
- 6:26couldn't touch the bottom of the ocean.
- 6:27And I was freaking out. I was like hyperventilating.
- 6:29It was the worst song of my life.
- 6:30It was so terrifying. They have plenty of those here
- 6:32with the beaches on the South Shore, and I'm sure Nathan's
- 6:35experienced bunch of them in New Jersey as well.
- 6:38Yeah, it's. It's not fun.
- 6:39It's not fun. Jobby, you got it.
- 6:41You got any sandbar experiences? Some nice nice little bars out
- 6:45in the middle of nowhere. Not necessarily in the middle of
- 6:49nowhere, maybe some swim up bars at some hotels and resorts, but
- 6:54no, no sandbars. I I, I'd love I swam with
- 6:57dolphins. I want to do, Speaking of you
- 7:01being scared of sharks, I want to do like a shark cage where
- 7:05you go down and like get to take pictures like that would be
- 7:07super, super. Cool Jabba versus the.
- 7:10Jaws yeah, I I just, I just hope somehow it doesn't come on loose
- 7:14and they, they can come get me. So it's like.
- 7:17But no, I love it. I remember I was a sophomore in
- 7:21college and you know, we got to, I got snorkeling for the first
- 7:24time because being in Nebraska, you don't really get these
- 7:27oceans and stuff. So it's like, you know, our,
- 7:30our, our lakes are just fishing and, and ripping lips.
- 7:33That's about all we do here. So I'll never forget.
- 7:37I learned what coral was real quick when I wasn't paying
- 7:41attention and I went over it. No, that wasn't it.
- 7:44That wasn't it. That it's as sharp as like
- 7:48anything could be. Yeah, wasn't it?
- 7:50It's like knives of sandpaper. Almost it was.
- 7:54So I went back-to-back years. I went as a player in college
- 8:00and I got drafted. And then I, I played in winter
- 8:03league in Hawaii. And so when we were there my
- 8:06sophomore year, it was whale mating season.
- 8:10So we got to see like you could hear the noises under the water
- 8:16and then you could literally like then watch them jump and
- 8:19like how, how does something that big jump out of the water?
- 8:24Like how does that happen? There's definitely some
- 8:27scientific explanation to behind how they can get that much
- 8:30force, but I imagine once they start moving it's hard to stop
- 8:32that train. Java.
- 8:34Oh. Java.
- 8:35In the simplest of terms, it's evolution.
- 8:38Oh, thanks Speedy, that helps. We are going to be without the
- 8:41sound board tonight, aren't we? It's.
- 8:44Going to definitely. Be a different.
- 8:45Field to bring Nathan in just to fill in his sounds.
- 8:49He can do it themselves. Yeah, Nathan is like a walking
- 8:53sound board. That is true, guys.
- 8:55We're going to talk about a whole bunch of stuff tonight.
- 8:57Obviously Stanley Cup Finals Game 6 is tomorrow.
- 9:01Florida's up 32. We'll get to that later tonight.
- 9:03There was a wild NBA trade between the Magic and the
- 9:06Grizzlies for Desmond Bain, something around 5:00.
- 9:10First round picks were either traded or swapped in it,
- 9:12including a pick this year and a very coveted pick next year if
- 9:15I'm not mistaken. We are going to talk about
- 9:18Shohei of time before he starts tonight.
- 9:19He's going to be the opener, it looks like for the Dodgers as
- 9:22part of his rehab. He's going to be starting
- 9:24tonight and nobody thought we were going to see him until much
- 9:27closer to the All Star break. But most, most of us thought
- 9:29after the All Star break. So we're going to get into that
- 9:32and we're going to get right into some of our big stories
- 9:36right now. The Yankees were swept by the
- 9:42Red Sox this weekend, but I don't know if I've ever seen a
- 9:47situation as similar to this where the Red Sox trade a guy
- 9:52who's their best hitter after sweeping the first place team,
- 9:56getting within 6 1/2 games back and and yes, trade star, I
- 10:04guess, still third baseman. Technically some hybrid deserts
- 10:09to the San Francisco Giants. That's where we're starting
- 10:13tonight. So Devers to the Giants fan
- 10:15side, it's Robert Murray. Reports that the Red Sox have
- 10:19traded Raphael Devers to the Giants.
- 10:20The Red Sox get back left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison, who's
- 10:25like a top prospect that really didn't show much his first
- 10:27years, his second year now relief pitcher Jordan Hicks
- 10:30who's tried to start, he was a closer, he went from Saint
- 10:34Louis. He ended up bouncing around a
- 10:36little bit himself. Outfield prospect James Tibbs,
- 10:38who's their 4th overall prospect, and rookie ball
- 10:42pitcher Jose Value. The Giants will take on the
- 10:45remainder the entirety of Dever's contract, which has $250
- 10:50million left on 1/4 of a billion dollars over the next nine
- 10:55years. ESP NS Jeff Passan reports the
- 10:57Red Sox endeavors grew tired of each other in regards to Dever's
- 11:01wanting to stay at third base when the Red Sox wanted him to
- 11:04be the designated hitter, passing as at the Red Sox as
- 11:07Devers if he would move to first base after full time full time
- 11:10after Tristan Cassis suffered a sneezing ending injury earlier
- 11:14this year, Devers said no and this was the final straw in the
- 11:18relationship, the debt. The Red Sox are sitting at 37
- 11:21and 36 right now. 6 1/2 games back in the Ales, half a game
- 11:25back in the AL Wild card. The Giants themselves two games
- 11:28back of the Dodgers in the NL W, currently second NL wild card
- 11:33spot. Devers currently this year
- 11:35batting 27 929-O5OPS15 homers, 58 RBIs.
- 11:43I guess they don't want to win. I guess they decided we don't
- 11:48want to have a good team this year.
- 11:49We want to bottom out as best we can.
- 11:53We don't want to spend the money.
- 11:54We want to get rid of all our bad contracts and we think we
- 11:58did it. We have the best farm system.
- 12:01We are ready to start over with these, with the great three guys
- 12:05they brought up Christian Campbell, Roman Anthony and
- 12:07Marcelo Mayer. It's hard to argue with that
- 12:11philosophy, except you just traded a guy who's when Clayton
- 12:16Kershaw heard this on the air when the right after he was
- 12:19traded, he said he's easily one of the top 10 hitters in all of
- 12:22baseball. He also started the year
- 12:26horrifically. Do you remember how bad his
- 12:28April was? Rafael Devers, we did a segment.
- 12:31Back. Didn't it go over over like 20
- 12:33something? Yeah, at one stretch.
- 12:35Strikeouts to start the season I'm.
- 12:37Pretty sure and he mentioned it in his segment, yeah.
- 12:40We did a segment of like the people.
- 12:41It's the guys who had the worst stats in all of April and Devers
- 12:46was like one of the worst players in the league.
- 12:48The fact that his numbers are now 272 with a nine O 5 OPS that
- 12:52tells you just how good he's been since May 1st.
- 12:55You can argue he's a top five hitter in all of baseball since
- 12:58May 1st. He's been that good.
- 13:01In fact, he destroyed the Yankees again like he always
- 13:04does. He's one of those Yankee killers
- 13:07like David Ortiz generations ago.
- 13:09Every time this guy got up, you knew that he was going to have
- 13:12something for even our best pitchers.
- 13:14That's who Devers was. Garrett Cole, I'm sure is happy
- 13:16even though he's not pitching this year.
- 13:17Doesn't have to see him anymore, or at least more than every once
- 13:20in a while. Garrett Cole, I mean, I don't
- 13:22have the stats in front of me, but I don't think he did very
- 13:24well against Devers. My memory is a little.
- 13:28I seem to just remember it being really bad.
- 13:32This is a fascinating trade. I don't know if I've ever seen
- 13:36this happen. Jabba, when was the last time
- 13:41that you have seen anything like this happened from a team that
- 13:44just swept the first place team? I, I honestly had no idea and
- 13:50shout out to my guy, Jared Carabas.
- 13:53Follow him on Jared unscore Carabas on next Twitter and in
- 13:57his podcast. And he's, he's a Red Sox guy.
- 14:01And you know, I, I try to go to the source when I can and he
- 14:06even didn't have any idea. And I don't know the time that I
- 14:10seen it. I don't know if it was if there
- 14:13was something internally that was going.
- 14:16On it had to be there were no other rumors.
- 14:18Yeah, and we didn't hear anything.
- 14:20And it was like, oh, OK, they kind of got through it when when
- 14:23they signed Bregman, we obviously talked about that and
- 14:26kind of how that went, but we hadn't really heard anything
- 14:30about it. And then obviously he made the
- 14:31turn and, you know, as, as Kyle stated in our chat, he was, oh,
- 14:37for 19 with 15 KS. Like that's, that's, that's an
- 14:40awful start. As bad as you can start.
- 14:43In an awful stretch. And so, you know, I'm just
- 14:47asking guys that no, because we hadn't heard anything and if we
- 14:52hear something, we're obviously going to talk about it and
- 14:54understand, you know, kind of where they're coming from.
- 14:58But this after a sweep and still obviously, you know, people are
- 15:05panicking, but they're still 42 and 29.
- 15:07Like let's let's just be honest. And but for it to happen in this
- 15:14way, I think what really says it and you said it fish, is the
- 15:21fact that they're like, you know what, we got rid of the entire
- 15:25contract. And I think that tells us
- 15:28something. I don't know what that is, but
- 15:32they definitely told us something there and that and is
- 15:35that is that Craig Breslow in in what they were doing in the
- 15:38front office either trying to get rid of it or saying like our
- 15:42farm system is good enough to where we can replace these guys.
- 15:46I think there's a little bit telling factors in kind of
- 15:50pieces, not necessarily the whole tail of it, but I think it
- 15:55comes down to the lingering effect that I think this all had
- 16:02from the start right when Bregman came in and did that.
- 16:06So it's it'll be interesting to see how it plays out and it and
- 16:10it really will be and see, see what happens.
- 16:13Sweetie, I got the analytics for you that I wanted to you to
- 16:16focus on as we go through this. I read something that Devers
- 16:22like contract value is like, like if there was like the way
- 16:25there's a specific measurement where they said that his
- 16:29contract's so bad it's like he's worth -40 million to his team.
- 16:34Really. I wonder why?
- 16:35Is that why are people saying this about Devers when we see
- 16:39the offense? Well, but, and especially when
- 16:42Clayton comes out and says he's one and and you got to put
- 16:46respect on Clayton's name for what he's done right.
- 16:50And you would think a left-handed Hall of Fame
- 16:53left-handed pitcher would know who the good left-handed hitters
- 16:55are. Yeah, and he's one of the better
- 16:57pure hitters for a lefty, too, at least at the beginning of his
- 17:00career. So maybe they'll strike out
- 17:01numbers, I guess. Got that number down.
- 17:03I was thinking, yeah, OK, there's going to be a negative.
- 17:05I would never have thought -40 million like that.
- 17:07I would maybe 2015 but. Well, it's a massive contract.
- 17:11Right it is. It is 11 years, 331 for a player
- 17:14that's young, durable and left-handed, though is still
- 17:18something that is going to spawn value.
- 17:20Now, I guess the power numbers for somebody like that have been
- 17:23a bit inconsistent, but he still is it mostly 25 or higher and I
- 17:28think five of the seven years of his career.
- 17:29So it's still not something that is that worrisome for a guy that
- 17:33is super durable. Yes, his defense is a concern,
- 17:35but I think everybody knew that even when he came up as a third
- 17:38baseman. And that's where I don't know if
- 17:40the value still stems for the Red Sox to be able to trade him
- 17:44as drastically as they did. So maybe I think it's exactly
- 17:47what you're saying. Java is something internal that
- 17:49got worse relationship wise where it's driven them to think,
- 17:54all right, is there an ulterior motive we can use this money for
- 17:57that? The problem is why couldn't they
- 17:59try that in this trade? Like, you have a month to do it.
- 18:01If this was like right at the deadline, all right, maybe you'd
- 18:04say all right, you don't want this to get worse.
- 18:06That's that's the part, Speedy. That kind of like boggles my
- 18:10mind too, is this wouldn't be such a big conversation if it
- 18:15was closer to the deadline, right?
- 18:17Yeah, because I think they have time.
- 18:19Like I think especially with the kids already up, all three kids
- 18:23of the top prospects, we talked about the start of the year all
- 18:25up now, like you have leeway of maneuvering other contracts.
- 18:30They traded the one kid, the catcher for crochet, but the
- 18:34rest of their other young kids are still there in the top top
- 18:37seven of their farm system that year.
- 18:39So they have enough time to maneuver something where you
- 18:42trade one of them, you maybe trade him and you can still even
- 18:45get a better player. Or the other option is you trade
- 18:48him and then pack it like package a deal when you know
- 18:50your weaknesses to try to get the combined value in that,
- 18:53whether it's from other line of depth or whether it's from
- 18:57bullpen, whatever, whatever it'll need.
- 18:58Or you get another star that's maybe a slight drop off and
- 19:03another depth pitcher. And then all of a sudden you're
- 19:05in a better spot or in just a good of a spot as if you had
- 19:09Devers there. And maybe it wouldn't cause the
- 19:11same kind of culture issues. I don't know if he had any bad
- 19:13relationship with any of the younger players.
- 19:14I don't think that was revealed as much.
- 19:16But you mentioned the tension with Bregman.
- 19:18Maybe that ended up getting to it.
- 19:19And with even with Bregman hurt, though, that's what's the
- 19:21biggest thing that was surprising.
- 19:22He's hurt like you would think, all right, you don't have to
- 19:25have it deal with him for a month or anything like that.
- 19:28And I guess it was still enough with the front office or it was
- 19:31a big issue. And I want to just relay Kyle's
- 19:35comments as well is to remind you of the guys with the Red Sox
- 19:37offloaded Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett to the Dodgers.
- 19:40I think it's a little different. They were really badly over the
- 19:43the cap at that time. And that's when the cap I ever,
- 19:45I think first started with the with the luxury tax.
- 19:48And the Red Sox were one of the most disappointing teams in the
- 19:50league that year. And that was later in the
- 19:52season. Like they were big favorites in
- 19:55that division definitely, and one of the biggest in the
- 19:57American League at the time when they did that.
- 19:59I think it's a different circumstance than this year when
- 20:02there's a lot of mediocre teams in the American League right now
- 20:05that they could still make a run in the playoffs.
- 20:06They have these kids coming up. Maybe it's a spark for them.
- 20:09We've seen younger teams do very well in today's game.
- 20:12So here's what I remember growing up at the Java and we're
- 20:16the same age, so you remember this guy too.
- 20:18There was a guy on Seattle that didn't play the field after
- 20:21starting his career as third baseman, and I remember him
- 20:25recently getting into the Hall of Fame as ADH named Edgar
- 20:28Martinez. Now I'm not saying Rafael Devers
- 20:31is the hitter of Edgar Martinez, but if you're trying to get a
- 20:35left-handed power hitter into a lineup that doesn't really have
- 20:38a dude in it, because let's face it, that Giants lineup, if it
- 20:42was missing something, it was missing a centerpiece.
- 20:46It was missing a dude. Now he's wouldn't play first
- 20:50base. Maybe he'll play first base for
- 20:52the Giants. He'll play third right now
- 20:53because Chapman had a weird injury to his hand.
- 20:56You know, Chapman like sprained like 3 of the fingers in his
- 20:59hand. He's going to be out a little
- 21:00bit. So he'll play some third.
- 21:03But once they come back, you know, those are, you know,
- 21:05Chapman and Bregman were two of were they both Gold Glover
- 21:09winners last year? I think they may have been
- 21:12right. So it's the exact same scenario,
- 21:16right? He's going to have to either
- 21:18become just a full time DH or learn how to play first base.
- 21:21And I think that probably is what he'll do next year.
- 21:24And he can always back up at 3rd.
- 21:25I mean, even if I, Guerrero Junior started out playing third
- 21:28base too, we know that guys and guys that are a little bit
- 21:30bigger in size, they gravitate to 1st as they get into their
- 21:3330s. It's just a natural thing.
- 21:35You don't want guys getting hurt all that much.
- 21:36There aren't that many big dudes that play, you know, that level,
- 21:40you know, for a long time. I guess Machado getting into his
- 21:4330s right now, still playing great defense out there, one of
- 21:46the best I'd ever seen. Third base a Rod's another one
- 21:49that comes to mind, playing really good defense at third
- 21:51later in his career. You know, so the bigger guys you
- 21:56like a like endeavors, you want to try to see them protect
- 21:59themselves and just hit because he's had a bad shoulder.
- 22:02They said that the start of the season his shoulder was messed
- 22:04up and it's not surprising. And at the end of the last year,
- 22:06it wasn't. And then they didn't really fix
- 22:08it well enough. And he was kind of weak on the
- 22:11bat late last year and he's good now.
- 22:13So what are they saying? Are they saying in Boston that
- 22:17they're they're the schedule doesn't line up with having
- 22:21Devers and these three young kids, Roman Anthony, that was
- 22:24the top prospect in all of baseball coming into the season,
- 22:26not named Roki Sasaki, who by the way, it doesn't look like
- 22:29we're going to see Roki Sasaki again this season.
- 22:32They just said that they'd shut him down again.
- 22:34Look, I, I traded for him in fantasy.
- 22:37I, I wanted to just, you know, as a shot in the dark, maybe
- 22:40that guy can just come back and be like a shot in the arm for
- 22:43the playoff run. You never know, He still might
- 22:44be. Probably not.
- 22:47You've got three guys. Roman Anthony, top prospect.
- 22:50Mayor was the top prospect a couple of years ago and you
- 22:53know, kind of slot slid down a little bit, but not exactly
- 22:56consistent hitting lefties right now.
- 22:58So he's platooning while he's up, playing third base while
- 23:01Bregman's out. He'll probably move over the
- 23:03short. They're going to have to figure
- 23:04out what to do with Trevor story, but I would imagine the
- 23:07story with stories going to be similar to Devours.
- 23:09They're going to move his ass out.
- 23:10Jabba, are they just getting rid of the vets right now?
- 23:13It's sometimes you get, you get aged out.
- 23:17And I think now when you're starting to bring these, and I
- 23:20think Craig is probably trying to bring a different like maybe
- 23:24perspective to the front office and kind of what he's doing
- 23:27with, you know, contracts and how like now you're going to
- 23:31have control of these young kids and try to develop.
- 23:34And you're not going to have to pay them unless you pay them
- 23:36early. And so it, it may be a little
- 23:40bit of that, but that also tells me too.
- 23:44And it makes me think, are you really trying to win right now?
- 23:49Because I'm not saying Young Energy doesn't bring
- 23:52championships, but when you have a top caliber like that and you
- 23:56get rid of them and you don't really get much of anything back
- 24:00other than getting rid of your payroll salary dump.
- 24:03Yeah. And and obviously with Jordan
- 24:05Hicks, it's when he was with the Cardinals and, you know, it's
- 24:11kind of the conversation everybody had about me.
- 24:13It's like should have left him there, but he wanted to be a
- 24:15starter. They did that kind of understand
- 24:18his circumstances, but really when you're getting rid of a guy
- 24:22of that caliber, then you don't really get a lot for it.
- 24:27It it makes it feel like it's a salary dump to be like, OK, now
- 24:30we we've got these young guys, even though Tristan's hurt, but
- 24:35you still got control of him too.
- 24:37So it's not like you're paying him either.
- 24:40So I think it's this is weird. And when when I talk to a Red
- 24:46Sox guy, which, you know, it's hard to reach out as a Yankee to
- 24:50a Red Sox guy, but if I don't know the answer, I'm going to
- 24:53try and find the right answer. And I messaged some other people
- 24:57too. And it's just it, it was kind of
- 25:02off the grid because as Speedy touched on, like if it was
- 25:05closer to deadline, you could kind of understand a little bit
- 25:09more of how it makes sense, but now did not get a lot in return.
- 25:15And basically just make it look like a salary dump.
- 25:18Then it's like, OK, are you trying to win now?
- 25:20Are you trying to rebuild? And we, we've talked about that
- 25:23before in like the rebuilding process.
- 25:25So are you, So what are you doing?
- 25:28And I don't honestly know what the hell they're doing to be
- 25:31honest with you. You know, I we, we talk about
- 25:35Craig Breslow, speedy and the former player now in the front
- 25:39office. We were giving a lot of
- 25:41congratulations earlier this year, but we keep hearing, you
- 25:44know, the Red Sox are don't play very good fundamental baseball.
- 25:49They're not there. Was an issue last year too.
- 25:51You know that that maybe things aren't all good on the farm and
- 25:55we see Campbell coming up. He had a good first three weeks
- 25:58of the season and he has struggled the rest of the way.
- 26:02And they were talking about maybe he'll play some first when
- 26:04Dever said no, he's going to stay at 2nd Mayor again.
- 26:08They're platooning him. They don't even want him to see
- 26:10lefties right now because Toro's been playing well.
- 26:13You know, he's one of those guys that's a good.
- 26:15He was pretty good at Seattle the year they made the playoffs.
- 26:17Toro. Toro Look, if he's one of those
- 26:20players that if you had to play him, you know, 500 at bats,
- 26:23you're not going to like what you see.
- 26:24But if you can get 350 of him on one side of the plate, you're
- 26:27probably going to like what you see out of him, right?
- 26:30But then you play in with with mayor.
- 26:32So that's that's fine. So that's your decision.
- 26:34You still have Trevor story for now.
- 26:36I guarantee you he's gone and it's it's A-Team that has a good
- 26:42foundation. If they had Devers, maybe they
- 26:43were be a playoff team. Yeah, I want to bring up
- 26:46something Jabba mentioned too, because you're talking about the
- 26:48player relationships with somebody that's a newer general
- 26:51manager. And I want to bring it up in
- 26:53comparison to the 2021 Mets when Jacob degrom was under, like,
- 26:58was he going to get paid? What is he not?
- 27:00And I think that was something that I think was a big focal
- 27:03point right after he got hurt the second time to where I think
- 27:06that relationship got damaged very quickly after it seemed
- 27:09like it was going well. And I think this is very similar
- 27:12because the Mets at the time weren't the the big spending one
- 27:14they are now. That was before they went after
- 27:16Scherzer and Verlander and obviously now getting Sodo.
- 27:18But like the Red Sox are in that same boat where they're trying
- 27:21to recreate the identity, is still trying to be the bigger
- 27:25market team at one point, but then they want to be to avoid
- 27:28the reckless spending they used to have.
- 27:30But then at the same time try to be this like, cute, I'm going to
- 27:34develop organically. And then they go to the other
- 27:36extreme where they just trade Devers.
- 27:37And the term salary dump is supposed to imply something
- 27:40that's you trade other either salaries or you trade a
- 27:44prospectus to get rid of a guy. And Devers is not the type of
- 27:47player to be considered a quote UN quote salary dump because
- 27:49he's younger. If it's a 37 year old guy that's
- 27:53eating up a lot of money, yeah, okay, that's considered a salary
- 27:56dump. Obviously, the Nationals did it
- 27:57with all their players, trading Rendon, trading Serzer, trading
- 28:01Trey Turner when their window closed.
- 28:04That's not the same case here with the Red Sox.
- 28:06That's not what you should be considered a salary dump.
- 28:08And if that's the way the front office perceived it, then they
- 28:12just rushed into the process of doing it and didn't go into the
- 28:16methodology of what you could really get for Devers.
- 28:19Now I told you this texting yesterday, Fish, I always
- 28:22expected the Giants to make a swing like this.
- 28:24So it's not surprising they were team jumping in on that because
- 28:26they were lacking a big power bat for a while.
- 28:29Even the 2121 Giants that won 107 games did not really have
- 28:32that type of power bat to that same level.
- 28:35So it's not surprising they jumped in on this quickly.
- 28:37But the Red Sox, knowing that could have gotten a bidding war
- 28:40across the National League to with enough good teams that need
- 28:44power to get that kind of bidding war where they could
- 28:47have gotten much better value. I like Harrison.
- 28:49I think he still has a lot of room to improve to possibly be a
- 28:52higher end pitcher. But like you were saying, Jabba
- 28:55Hicks, you don't really know what you're going to get out of
- 28:56him because especially when you're trained by the Cardinals,
- 28:59they have not been the model organization of developing young
- 29:01players recently. And the other two were OK
- 29:04prospects, not great. If you're going to get a
- 29:08potential #3 in your staff with Kyle Harrison say he develops at
- 29:13the high end, they think he might be a number 2, but it's
- 29:16still a couple years. It's still years away.
- 29:18It's still years away for him. Hicks.
- 29:21I don't think anyone thinks thinks Hicks is going to be
- 29:24anything at this point. And I I don't know that outfield
- 29:26prospects was the 4th. Top He was the first round pick
- 29:29last year so he's still very raw.
- 29:31So maybe he's maybe he'll be good.
- 29:33But again, that's for down the road to me when you send a
- 29:37message to your like, they just swept the Yankees.
- 29:41They just swept the Yankees with a guy who's having a historic
- 29:45season and held him to one for 12 in the series, and they're
- 29:50like, you know what? Most most strikeouts in a series
- 29:53with 9. Right, He was terrible in the
- 29:56series. They got to him.
- 29:57They were able to to solve him for three days and yet no, let's
- 30:03give up this year where a half game out of the wild card and
- 30:06they'll say they're not giving up.
- 30:07I'm sure they're not going to. They're saying they're not
- 30:09giving up, but how are they better without that bat in the
- 30:13lineup? And again, he was terrible in
- 30:14April. Last I heard, if you're over a
- 30:17900 OPS, you're a good damn hitter.
- 30:20And he has 15 homers and 58 RB is now.
- 30:23We went from talking about Craig Breslow.
- 30:25I think we deserve to talk about another former player that's
- 30:28Buster Posey. Buster Posey with this move he
- 30:33gets rid of some pitchers that may are probably prospects that
- 30:38were not as hyped as they should or over hyped.
- 30:41Not only that, there's not a lot of room.
- 30:43They have a lot of good people. You know, they have a lot of,
- 30:45they have a lot of arms. They don't need it.
- 30:46It's like like extra players. They just have to spend the
- 30:50money. And now they get again, DH and
- 30:52ENL. They, I mean, who's their first
- 30:55baseman? Mets legend Wilmer Flores.
- 30:59Yeah, that's not a long term solution.
- 31:00I'm sure he's having a good year.
- 31:01He's actually. He's actually tied for their
- 31:03team lead in home or no second on their team lead in home runs,
- 31:05only behind Chapman. Yeah, so clearly Devers is going
- 31:10to help, right? So if this is what you have, and
- 31:14in the long run, this guy now has a long contract and he's
- 31:17going to give the power, left-handed power.
- 31:19I saw a spray chart of his home run, Speedy.
- 31:22It's kind of hard for lefties at Fenway unless they're going up
- 31:26and. It's gonna be even harder in San
- 31:28Francisco. Well, they said it would be the
- 31:31exact same amount of home runs if he hit it in San Francisco.
- 31:33Maybe compared to? Because they did like the home
- 31:37run chart to see like distance wives, Yeah.
- 31:39Extra basics, though, double S and he's not going to get any
- 31:43triples. But double S in that right
- 31:44center in San Francisco's hard, though.
- 31:46Yep, no, you're not wrong and but it's about the same.
- 31:49So it's not like he doesn't have the power to get it out.
- 31:51We know the balls aren't traveling the same way that they
- 31:53did in previous years either. You know that that'll probably
- 31:56change back the other way next season and watch he'll have an
- 31:59extra 10 home runs, right? This, this is a great move by
- 32:03Buster Posey. This is, it's like the saying
- 32:06the exact opposite thing to your fan base.
- 32:09Craig Braslow is telling his fan base not right now.
- 32:12You guys can be middling for another couple of years.
- 32:16We'll get there eventually. And Buster Posey says screw
- 32:19that. I'm adding one of the best
- 32:21left-handed bats because they're undervaluing him.
- 32:23I don't care if we have to spend money.
- 32:25I want to win. And guess what?
- 32:27Fans love that your team. I mean, Jabba, you tell me that
- 32:30what the mentality of that Red Sox clubhouse has to be after
- 32:34this deal, because I can't imagine it being positive.
- 32:36And I bet it's exactly the opposite in that San Francisco
- 32:39clubhouse where they're all jacked up.
- 32:41I think it's it's two different dynamics, especially as you
- 32:45said, like if you're a player on that team, like you look at like
- 32:51a Walker Bueller or whatever. And what like what are we doing?
- 32:56Like are we are we trying to win?
- 32:59I under like I said, I understand bringing young
- 33:02talent. I I get that and bring young
- 33:04energy like that's it makes sense to me.
- 33:06But to what capacity are you? Are you really like OK, now I'm
- 33:11like, I'm going out and pitching for myself.
- 33:14Yeah, I got a contract. I hope.
- 33:16Contract. Not a big one.
- 33:17But it's still a contract. He's not he's not under the
- 33:21arbitration level yet to where like he's getting paid league
- 33:24minimum. No, So that's that's the hard
- 33:28part. I have no idea what that would
- 33:32be. But then on the other side, when
- 33:34you bring in guys like when we bring in Ichiro and don't really
- 33:37give up much and they're like, all right, we're trying to win
- 33:41again. And so the giants in what you
- 33:45have, you have two front office guys that are former players
- 33:49doing the complete opposite, like 1's bringing in something
- 33:53and not giving away everything. And like you bring a guy like
- 33:59that in, it's like, all right, well, well, here we go.
- 34:03And then on the other side of the fence, you're like, well,
- 34:07what the hell is going on here? Like and, and did Craig come in
- 34:12and talk or did they have a conversation?
- 34:16Did he bring some guys in and be like, hey, this is kind of the
- 34:19direction we're going that we don't know because we're not in
- 34:23the clubhouse and we don't have those answers.
- 34:26But it's two opposite sides of the spectrum and it's very, very
- 34:31interesting. I love it that it's early enough
- 34:36where let's see how it plays out.
- 34:39Let's see what happens on both sides of it to see.
- 34:46Let's not look long term right now.
- 34:48Let's like look at it just right for what it is right now for
- 34:51this year, then we can talk about it as we go down the road.
- 34:54Well, the Giants are going to jump started on quickly because
- 34:57they they know the Padres are also a very aggressive front
- 34:59office and obviously. The Dodgers are, duh.
- 35:02We've seen him everything, yeah. And he's awesome because he he
- 35:07don't care. He'll he'll pull the trigger on
- 35:08whatever. So and.
- 35:09He knows too, that this Giants team, they're not going to be
- 35:12able to win the same way that his Giants team won with.
- 35:15Obviously they still have the pitching, which is not as good
- 35:17as the World Series core, but like it's still a good pitching,
- 35:20but they're not going to be able to win with those types of just
- 35:22like every hitter is a scrappy hitter type thing.
- 35:25You need some level of power in today's game.
- 35:26You need some level of the extra base hits, guys that can
- 35:29generate all those walk, which is another thing that Devers
- 35:31does very well at his peak where there's a reason.
- 35:34And he he actually had, I think the at one point during the 2023
- 35:37season, the lowest chase rate for a guy with that many home
- 35:40runs, too, which those are the types of hitters that the Giants
- 35:43have lacked for a while. And like you were saying, fish
- 35:46Wilmer Flores, 11 home runs. Helio Ramos goodies boy that he
- 35:50doesn't remember who he was as has eleven home runs, but they
- 35:53don't have any money. Other guys healthy double digit
- 35:55home runs. Talk about fantasy boss.
- 35:56My biggest one in my league with Josh Adamus.
- 35:59Yikes. His numbers are horrible this
- 36:01year. 624 OPS, eight runs, 30 two RBI's.
- 36:04And so far you need a veteran presence to make up for that
- 36:07kind of move. And so far you're getting that
- 36:09with bringing endeavors, which they're sprinkled in a couple
- 36:12good youngsters, but it just they have depth, but not a lot
- 36:14of stardom and not a lot of like who's the scary guy in the
- 36:17lineup where the Dodgers and the Padres are sprinkled with a
- 36:20bunch of those guys. Well, I wouldn't give up on a
- 36:24damus speedy. I do.
- 36:25I didn't drop him. I'm just saying it's
- 36:27disappointing. Well, look, it's a, it's a new
- 36:31team. You never know.
- 36:32Sometimes you, I mean, look at what Lindor did that first year,
- 36:35how how struggling, how much he struggled right off the bat with
- 36:38the Mets. And then, you know, he found his
- 36:40groove. I think bringing a guy like
- 36:42Devers into this clubhouse, I mean, it's going to give him new
- 36:46life, but it's also going to give a guy like Adamus new life.
- 36:50I want to hear what our intern Aaron has to say about this.
- 36:53What what do you, what is your take on this trade?
- 36:55Because this is certainly a one-of-a-kind type of the deal
- 36:57man. No, absolutely.
- 36:59Honestly, the only way you can really compare it is to the Luca
- 37:02trade. Now that was a bigger in the
- 37:04sense of like, whoa, that, you know, Luca is a one of the best
- 37:07stars in in the NBA, but you compare it because you're
- 37:11trading your home, your home grown guy, you know, in the
- 37:14middle of a season where again, you just swap the Yankees.
- 37:16You got they're kind of getting off to a good start.
- 37:19But then also other teams are going.
- 37:21He was he was he was available. Like why, why wasn't I known
- 37:25this right? And I heard on the MLB Network
- 37:27that they said if teams called and they asked about Devers,
- 37:31they were willing to listen. So it wasn't that he wasn't
- 37:34available or he was they would you just had to ask and they you
- 37:37kind of just start talking and then stuff came out from there.
- 37:41But then also like, why? Like why now I you know what?
- 37:44And even go back, going back to the offseason, everyone was
- 37:46saying Boston was going to be this great team, which look, I
- 37:49mean, they haven't lived up to their potential, but it all
- 37:52started when they signed Bregman.
- 37:53Bregman they didn't need, they needed Bregman offensively, not,
- 37:57I'm sorry, defensively at both on the both sides of the ball,
- 38:00but you already had Devers there.
- 38:02So if you don't sign Bregman, which they kind of did in my eye
- 38:05to make a splash because they did get Crochet and they did get
- 38:10Bueller. So then you get Bregman and then
- 38:12you make this whole mess of a of a problem when with your home
- 38:15grown guy. So it is a lot of confusing
- 38:17things for me when I when I look at this trade, But then you also
- 38:20look at it from a wide league standpoint.
- 38:22And now the now the Giants are going, we're here, we're ready
- 38:25to win now. And now the Dodgers are going,
- 38:29well, we have to try to maybe pivot.
- 38:31And there's so many different things, teams that are involved,
- 38:34even though they're not directly involved with the trade, like
- 38:36the Yankees. Now they're going, hey, we can
- 38:37kind of sit back now because honestly, this trade makes
- 38:40Boston worse right now. I mean, is it coincident?
- 38:44You know, we'll talk about it later, but is it coincidence
- 38:46after as soon as we heard this deal went down within a couple
- 38:49hours we're we hear Shohei Otani's pitching the next game
- 38:53for the Dodgers. That NL W speedy.
- 38:56That's if I don't know if there's a more competitive
- 38:59division in baseball. Yep, those those three teams,
- 39:02Arizona is not far behind where they're kind of stuck in
- 39:04mediocrity right now. But yeah, but those three are
- 39:06definitely the best like top three grouping this year because
- 39:09again, we know the Padres when healthy have enough pitching.
- 39:12Their bullpen is still very strong.
- 39:13The Giants bullpen I think is the best in the National League
- 39:15right now. And then the Dodgers are just
- 39:17like filled with all the talent. They just have a bunch of
- 39:19pitching injuries. Probably why they had to bring
- 39:21Otani to pitch now, like you were saying, Fish maybe month
- 39:25ahead of schedule type thing. But their offense is still, I
- 39:27think now surpassed the Cubs for the most runs scored in the
- 39:30league, the the most home runs. Obviously, Ohtani's still in the
- 39:33unbelievable year. But yeah, that's there's a
- 39:35reason the Giants jumped on this earlier is to not be that kind
- 39:38of all right, We'll wait on this kind of wannabe high spending
- 39:42team and then miss out on it like they were in the air.
- 39:45And Judge sweepstakes when the Yankees ended up still getting
- 39:47him in the end, like they were with joining the Mets in the
- 39:50Carlos Correa sweepstakers. Thank God they both dodged a
- 39:53bullet on that one. But nevertheless, they still
- 39:55tried. But they haven't been able to
- 39:57get there with their past regime and now Buster Posey's.
- 40:00Whatever he's doing in that front office is getting players
- 40:03to want to buy into that, at least the team culture
- 40:05perspective. Last year, they just didn't have
- 40:07enough talent on the offensive side.
- 40:08Now they have the talent to be able to make it work with
- 40:10Devers. And who says this is the last
- 40:12one either? Devers is again him and Logan
- 40:14Webb. They're kind of the only big
- 40:15contracts that they have right now.
- 40:17It's not, and Adamus looks bad because he hasn't played well,
- 40:20but it's not like an egregious contract.
- 40:23I mean, I remember so like I played playing fantasy baseball
- 40:28guys since I was 11 years old on an AL, only ESPN.
- 40:32You have to pay 2995 for it. And it was very simplistic
- 40:37stats. There's two guys that I ever
- 40:39watched that I was, I watched like a handful like their first
- 40:43at bats and I just was obsessed with watching these guys play.
- 40:46I never saw young players have at bats like that.
- 40:49And the number first guy I'm talking about was Mike Trout.
- 40:51When Mike Trout came up, I'd never seen anyone with that kind
- 40:54of power. And I made sure in the league
- 40:55where you're allowed one, we called it a bonus pick, one
- 40:58waiver pick all season. I went and got Trout and the
- 41:01year that I won, I took Buster Posey because I just watched
- 41:05Buster Posey play. Guys, this is a legend and this
- 41:09might be the Jerry West of baseball coming forwards because
- 41:13the first big move he makes, in my opinion, is a genius move.
- 41:18I mean, look at this highlight. Do you remember the the type of
- 41:21crap that he used to pull when he was catching?
- 41:23I mean, he came up to the league as one of the best game callers
- 41:26already. But you, you also know too,
- 41:28you're something special when you when you get these guys.
- 41:32They created a Buster Posey rule so you couldn't run over a
- 41:34catcher anymore. Yeah, and honestly, if that
- 41:37didn't happen to him, I think his career is a bunch of years
- 41:39longer. He doesn't have to play first
- 41:40base. The last bunch of years of his
- 41:42career, you know, he's still a Hall of Famer.
- 41:45It's just it like we kind of got robbed of some of that peak.
- 41:48Now, obviously that happens to catchers.
- 41:50That's part of the position, I guess.
- 41:51Now, it's not the Buster Posey rule, but like, I mean, we have,
- 41:55everyone knows the story of Pete Rose running over the catcher
- 41:58and the guy was never the same in the All Star game, right?
- 42:01So it's probably something to take out of baseball.
- 42:04One of one of my favorite ones, though, is AJ Brzezinski and
- 42:07Michael Barrett. Tell me a little bit more about
- 42:11it, I don't remember it too well.
- 42:12They get into it and they, they, they push each other and do
- 42:16whatever and then all hell breaks loose.
- 42:18There's been some good ones, but I'd love that part of the game
- 42:22and that there, there are certain parts of the game that
- 42:25we've talked about where I wish they wouldn't have taken away
- 42:28some of these things because it's like taking a guy out at
- 42:32second. I mean, we saw it in the College
- 42:34World Series how a game ended and it was interference.
- 42:38And I'm like interference as long as you touch the bag.
- 42:41But sometimes they didn't touch a bag and they're just trying to
- 42:43take your legs out so you don't get a double play.
- 42:46And there are certain parts of the game now that have been
- 42:48taken away. And Buster Posey is one of those
- 42:50guys that change it. Yeah, you slide in hard, take
- 42:54him out as 1/2 slide, half hit him and he blows his ACL out.
- 42:58And now you changed the entire rules for that reason.
- 43:03I just it it it's weird to me because I still want to see
- 43:06dudes get run over. Like, I love that part of it.
- 43:09Chase how it remains #1. I think it's like the hockey
- 43:11fight though. It's like the hockey fight.
- 43:14Like it's the only thing that's truly left from like the old
- 43:18school days of sports is they're still going to settle it with a
- 43:22fight. I think everything else that was
- 43:24kind of like schoolyard rules has been taken out of all of our
- 43:27favorite sports that you just mentioned.
- 43:29And no, you can't run over the catcher, can't slide hard in a
- 43:32second. I mean you can slide hard in the
- 43:34second, but you have to hit exactly.
- 43:36Right on the bag. That'll be perfect, right?
- 43:40But of course, that's like not great for the second baseman
- 43:43coming over and his foot, you know, like, so there's, there's
- 43:46a bunch of stuff that you know, is reason why they did in the
- 43:481st place like that, that I think people forget that there's
- 43:52all those things. But guys, this Red Sox trade, I
- 43:56as a Yankee fan, they just blew the doors off of us this weekend
- 44:00and they decided to tank their team.
- 44:01Thank you very much. I'll enjoy your fans being
- 44:04miserable as a Yankee fan. I guess it's like some it's like
- 44:08we lost every game, but we sort of won in a way, but they're not
- 44:12our main competition. I can't believe they're punting
- 44:14on the playoffs, though. It feels like they're punting on
- 44:16the playoffs. If I was on their their
- 44:19clubhouse, that's what I would say and I and I would want
- 44:21answers like, are you serious? Where do you?
- 44:24Where do you go with the like, if you're if you're that guy,
- 44:29you have very few guys in that clubhouse that can actually
- 44:32like, like, what? What are we doing?
- 44:34Like what? What direction are we going in?
- 44:38Like what did I sign up for A. Team that's getting young all at
- 44:42once, apparently. I just hope it's not an ego
- 44:45thing with Breslow, Like we don't know how he is as a
- 44:47general manager. He wants to put his stamp on it.
- 44:50Maybe he's right, maybe this will work and it's just a very
- 44:53strange timed thing to do. And you can't, you can't tell me
- 44:58that that's the best offer you thought you were going to get
- 45:01for Devers. I just don't get it.
- 45:03I it's not that good of an offer.
- 45:06If you really thought he's that much of A toxic asset that you
- 45:09had to dump him. How does he have a 900 OPS with
- 45:1215 homers and 58 RB is by the middle of June.
- 45:16That means he's on pace for over 100 RB is and he was terrible in
- 45:20April. The only thing I can think of
- 45:21that probably with a rally around the younger player, like
- 45:24not being there recently, but this was more of just the off
- 45:29field incident related. It's not the not him getting
- 45:31traded was the Padres and 22 with all the stuff with Tatis
- 45:35with the motorcycle accident and then the random thing drugs he
- 45:38got caught for and that they rallied around and they went to
- 45:40the NLCS as a five seed. But again, besides that, that
- 45:44wasn't a trade circumstance. That wasn't a front office
- 45:46saying, all right, we're going to throw you away.
- 45:47There were trade rumors after that, but that's the only thing
- 45:50I could think of. So that's best case scenario for
- 45:52the Red Sox. You would hope, but it's still a
- 45:54long shot. Let's hope for the worst case
- 45:57scenario for those Red Sox. All right, well, we got someone
- 46:00else to talk about. Put it up for.
- 46:03Valdez deserves a golf clap. No doubt golf.
- 46:06Clap, golf clap. OK guys, today's golf clap of
- 46:14the day goes to Yankees designated hitter returning hero
- 46:19John Carlos Stanton activated from the IL on Monday to make a
- 46:25season debut tonight, giving the Yankees yet another big power
- 46:29hitter again. He missed the 1st 70 games this
- 46:32year with tendon injuries in both elbows.
- 46:35I've yet to hear how that happens.
- 46:39At some point, maybe we'll find out that story.
- 46:41Jabba, I, I maybe you'll have some inside information.
- 46:44I I we've been perplexed by this injury all year.
- 46:47Never never heard of it so I don't know.
- 46:49But it was it like bilateral elbow weakness or something,
- 46:52something ridiculous like that. But he wasn't, couldn't swing
- 46:56the bat. The elbows were bad, you know,
- 46:58He had, you know. But again, remember in the
- 47:01postseason he had seven home runs in 14 games.
- 47:04He's batting 5th tonight. He's 35 years old.
- 47:07Look, he's Adhi. Don't think they're going to run
- 47:09him out in the outfield anymore. But the Yankees have a whole
- 47:11bunch of options on DH. They got somewhere to play Ben
- 47:14Rice. They're not going to play him
- 47:16too much at first because he got Goldie.
- 47:18You're not going to play him too much at DH because now you got
- 47:20Giancarlo. Jason Dominguez doesn't play the
- 47:22field everyday. He's not a great outfielder, so
- 47:24they want to give him some DH at bats.
- 47:26Grisham, is he going to lose that bats because of this?
- 47:28I think probably. But again, we get Giancarlo up
- 47:33to speed because we know that all that matters is the
- 47:37postseason and when he's healthy in the postseason and he's got
- 47:40that timing because let's face it, if you've ever rooted for
- 47:43Giancarlo, stand is very tough guy to root for.
- 47:46When you're watching him go and he's in a slump, it looks like
- 47:49he's swinging A toothpick and like has no chance of hitting
- 47:54the ball. And then he seems like he can't
- 47:56miss it and he doesn't look like a normal swing.
- 47:59There's not too many guys that swing a bat that that look like,
- 48:02I guess he's holding some kind of like ninja baton or something
- 48:05because it's so small and he's so strong.
- 48:07He just swings it so hard. And we know he's got one of the
- 48:10top exit velocities in all of baseball.
- 48:13The Yankees can use his back back.
- 48:15He's back tonight. So excited to see what happens.
- 48:19Now. Just think of all of the
- 48:20different protection we have. Judge hasn't had Santa hidden
- 48:23behind them all season. Now he does.
- 48:26He's hitting fifth. Judge, I think is hitting third
- 48:28who they have 4th. I know Rice is hitting second,
- 48:32but regardless of who it is, that lineup gets a lot better.
- 48:36I think they have Volpe hitting eighth tonight or 7th and then
- 48:39Wells 8th and DJ 9th. If that's the bottom third of
- 48:43your lineup, we're pretty good. The golf clap of the day, boys.
- 48:48Let's give it up to the Yankees, then Giancarlo Stanton, clap it
- 48:53up. Golf clap, the golf clap.
- 48:55The Dodgers are starting Shohei Ohtani tonight.
- 48:59The game starts in about 1/2 hour.
- 49:01He's going to return to the mound versus the Padres.
- 49:04He's only going to throw, you know, a couple of innings,
- 49:06probably tonight, no more than two.
- 49:09They were saying that it's actually a little bit easier for
- 49:12him to play to rehab this way instead of ramping up to pitch
- 49:17and then having to take a day off to be ADH.
- 49:19This is actually easier for him and I'll let him get more at
- 49:22bats. The organization thinks it's
- 49:24better for his body as well. The Dodgers have 14 pitchers on
- 49:29the IL, including four of their starters.
- 49:32It's been 21 months since the Tommy John surgery, his second
- 49:37on his pitching arm, and he hasn't pitched since August
- 49:4021st, 2023. Otani in his career has a three
- 49:44O 1 ERAA, one O 8 WHIP and 608 strikeouts and 86 starts.
- 49:52Wow. Shohei Otani is back to being a
- 49:56two way superstar for now. For the first time the Los
- 50:00Angeles Dodgers. He's only going to be an opener.
- 50:02He's probably not going to be ramped up until after the All
- 50:05Star break. But again, he's pitching.
- 50:08There's a video and I think I'm going to get one of the interns
- 50:10to put it up in a little bit. It's him pitching the new pitch.
- 50:14I guess it's a 2 seemer. We'll have to get Jabba on it.
- 50:16Fascinating, but it's like breaking down and in to a
- 50:21right-handed hitter coming from a right-handed pitcher, almost
- 50:23like a screwball, but it's I'm pretty sure it's like similar to
- 50:27the chin Ming Wong 2 seamer, just going a lot harder than
- 50:31chin Ming went ever threw it here.
- 50:33Here's the clip right here. If we can get it up, just take a
- 50:35look at some of this movement on the actually, that's just him
- 50:38celebrating it, but it dives. Yeah, that's definitely. 2 feet
- 50:42inside, if he can pitch at, let's say by the time he gets to
- 50:49the All Star break, he's going 5 innings a game, right?
- 50:51Say he's about 5 in a six inning guy.
- 50:53I don't expect him to go deeper into games than six innings at
- 50:57any point this season, right? I don't think that's the mission
- 50:59for them. The mission is they need
- 51:02pitching. He can pitch.
- 51:04He can help, at least right now. And when he's fully healthy, he
- 51:08might be their best pitcher because he's that good.
- 51:11Now, if he's the best pitcher, Speedy, and he's doing what he's
- 51:15doing at the plate, which by the way, isn't bad, in case you
- 51:18haven't noticed, his stats at the plate, speedy, I'm sure
- 51:20you're going to give them to me in a minute.
- 51:22There are literally maybe three people in the world that can do
- 51:27what he's doing at the plate, and then there's no one who
- 51:31could do it at the same time while he's at the Mount.
- 51:34Will he stay healthy? Will he be able to do this for a
- 51:38long time? Well, the Dodgers bet a whole
- 51:40lot of money, deferred money, that he would.
- 51:43So this is the beginning. This is what the real test is.
- 51:47Look, 5050 was great as ADH. It was good enough for the for
- 51:51the MVP. But what you could do as a top
- 51:54three hitter in the league and perhaps a top ten pitcher is
- 51:59what would even surpass Judge what he's doing this year.
- 52:03I know Errol when he's on. Errol doesn't want to say that
- 52:05Judge isn't as good as Otani, but if we get the top ten
- 52:08pitcher and a top three hitter, that's more value, especially in
- 52:12WAR to a team then just as a good outfielder who's one of the
- 52:18greatest hitters we've ever seen.
- 52:19Yeah, I have to admit that. Yeah, the two way, the two way
- 52:21player was always a fascinating dynamic when he came into the
- 52:24league as it was. And I had a actually oddly
- 52:27enough at the time, he loves them now.
- 52:28I had an argument with with Jeff because I was thinking he, I was
- 52:31very high on Otani's like always going to get hurt.
- 52:33Is it going to work? And obviously he has gotten
- 52:35hurt, but his peak form has been still very good to look at.
- 52:38Yeah, you look at a top ten pitcher, I think the biggest
- 52:40stat with him is strikeouts per 9 innings have been over 11
- 52:43pretty consistently his whole career and 608 strikeouts you
- 52:47mentioned total. And now you add another pitch in
- 52:49your arsenal. If that two seamer is as
- 52:51effective as it could be. It's definitely interesting.
- 52:54It shows that he's working in his craft too.
- 52:55Like he knows that even his peak form as a pitching is still
- 52:58could be something that could be redeveloped, especially after
- 53:00two surgeries. We see it all the time, like how
- 53:03good pitchers will be able to come back from having surgeries
- 53:06like that, having it multiple times as well.
- 53:09So adding that in your arsenal to go along with the amount of
- 53:12hard curveballs, hard fastballs that he has had and that level
- 53:16of pitching is going to create it.
- 53:18In addition, like you said, the hitting stats where he had an
- 53:20OPS of one point O3 four this year, OPS plus is 189 on the
- 53:24year. So you're dealing with stats
- 53:27that are little bit far behind, a little bit behind the previous
- 53:31two years, his last year with the Angels, OPS1O66 and he won
- 53:35the MVP last year, obviously winning the MVP with the
- 53:37historic 5050 year. And now you're adding some
- 53:40pitching into that. Now you're right, he's not going
- 53:42to be like driven for length. I don't think any of these
- 53:45Dodgers pitchers really at this point are going to be driven for
- 53:47length because they feel like they have the enough rotational
- 53:50depth, they have enough organizational like versatile
- 53:53relievers type. And I think that's a good thing
- 53:54for the mindset too, for somebody that could either be
- 53:57like a super, I guess you would call it like a super reliever, a
- 54:01super opener, however you want to do it for post season
- 54:03strategy because we've seen Dave Roberts do that a lot.
- 54:06So we've seen him bringing starters out of the bullpen in
- 54:10playoff game. Sometimes it's works, sometimes
- 54:12it hasn't. And that's the weapon that Otani
- 54:15can bring if he gets back to that peak form as a pitcher.
- 54:17And it's like I said, especially if it develops into that 2
- 54:19starter, 2 seamer, the extra pitches that he could do, it
- 54:23brings him another weapon in the post season.
- 54:25Now, like you were saying, they have 14 other pitchers hurt
- 54:28right now, so they're going to have to play around with the
- 54:30depth as it is. How they did it last was very
- 54:33impressive because I I was, I was high on them the way they
- 54:37were doing it in 23 and they still lost in the playoffs.
- 54:39So I was picking against him a lot last year in the postseason
- 54:43and the Dodgers pitching, we knew their bullpen was good, but
- 54:45their starting pitching was still questionable.
- 54:47It would it proved me wrong. But again, it's another
- 54:50challenge, just like you said, with Sasaki hurt.
- 54:52Now Snell, he's always streaky as it is.
- 54:55Could he come back the same? But Otani now being here, at
- 54:59least if he gets back to that form, like he said, top 10, top
- 55:0215 pitcher form with that high strikeout rate, it gives you
- 55:05options to be able to be that either super open or super
- 55:08reliever come playoff time. No matter what seed they end up
- 55:11in the playoffs. Because we were talking about
- 55:12before, it's a very competitive NLS.
- 55:14But obviously the Dodgers, with all the all the talent and all
- 55:17the deferred money they have, still the favorites.
- 55:21I I, it's just interesting to me like when Errol says like the
- 55:27best if, if he, if he can go both sides, it might be a little
- 55:33early, but at the same time, like, I don't know if it is
- 55:38because we have somebody that's doing something that nobody's
- 55:45ever done. Babe Ruth is the last person to
- 55:48do it. And so if we get that is it's is
- 55:56he that is he that dude and can he keep and fish?
- 56:02I agree. Like if he can give you like
- 56:05he's going to open and they're probably going to give him what
- 56:08probably I would, I would say 6060 pitches probably is.
- 56:12What? He had 44 in a simulated start
- 56:15his last time out in 3 innings. So I would be 65. 60 something.
- 56:20Like that, yeah, be 65 and that's kind of the progression
- 56:24of what we've done. Like when we have Tommy John and
- 56:29he hasn't thrown since 23. So I think he's I think he's
- 56:34going to get probably 65. And if he goes out and shoves it
- 56:43up their ass. But does that really mean
- 56:47anything? I look at it two ways.
- 56:49Yes, he's on the mound and yes, he is a presence.
- 56:54But if they're going to extend him, what is that going to mean,
- 56:59You know, And I honestly don't know what that is because, shit,
- 57:06my first at bat, JJ Hardy hit a home run off me.
- 57:09And coming off Tommy John, you just don't know.
- 57:13Because yeah, I can throw against my teammates and I can
- 57:17throw in rehab games and I can do that.
- 57:20But it's different when you get to the big leagues.
- 57:23It's a different when you get to the big leagues.
- 57:25So what's he going to be able to do?
- 57:29Let's see what happens. And I know Errol will argue this
- 57:33with me and I hope he's having a fantastic time on his cruise
- 57:37with Brittany and everybody. But if he comes back and does
- 57:41the shit that he has done on the mountain, because you look at
- 57:45his lifetime ERA, the man balls out.
- 57:54And so it just, I don't know what he's going to do.
- 57:59I don't know how he's going to respond.
- 58:03So let's see what happens and he's going to do it.
- 58:06And I, I'm excited, obviously. And I'm waiting for it to come
- 58:11on because they're they should be on here in about an hour or
- 58:17so. And he's he's just a different
- 58:24anomaly. And I just think we haven't seen
- 58:27a character like this. And that's what I've said.
- 58:29I was like, I am not discrediting judge by any means
- 58:33being the best player by any means.
- 58:37But if he comes back and does maybe does half of what he does
- 58:43right half, he's still the best player in the fucking planet.
- 58:50How do you deny that? You know what's crazy?
- 58:54He separated his shoulder in the playoffs and.
- 58:57Yeah, sliding in second. Sliding in 2nd and wasn't
- 59:00particularly good in the World Series.
- 59:02That was terrible. Well, I mean, he's playing with
- 59:04one arm. You know what?
- 59:05I. Mean Judge hasn't been good in
- 59:06the playoffs either so. No but like what I'm saying is
- 59:09we didn't even get a healthy Otani and lost the World Series
- 59:12to them. Now they get this guy perhaps at
- 59:16the peak of his powers again. He's, I mean, he was a killer.
- 59:21If I'm not mistaken, the Mets had trouble with him in the
- 59:24NLCS. Speedy.
- 59:26I'm not. Mistaken.
- 59:27The Mets had trouble with him in the beginning of the series.
- 59:29He kind of cooled off a little bit after that, but there were
- 59:31other guys that heated up. Maximum C and Tommy Edmond and a
- 59:35bunch of other guys heated up after that.
- 59:37And the Mets. And the Logan.
- 59:38Player Look, Otani Otani is this is the the superstar for a team
- 59:45that didn't need him to win the World Series.
- 59:48Now they have him. The pitching needs to get
- 59:50healthy. I expect Snell to come back in a
- 59:52month or so. We I think this was always going
- 59:55to happen with Snell at some point early in the contract he
- 59:57was going to miss. We knew he's going to miss time.
- 1:00:00Yeah, he's always like at the first year of like a new team.
- 1:00:03It's bad. That's good.
- 1:00:05Lazno. I don't know if he's, you know,
- 1:00:07look, he's damaged goods. We know that.
- 1:00:09Hopefully he can get himself healthy.
- 1:00:11They got a lot of guys that they have so much, they spent so much
- 1:00:14money, they can keep putting guys out there.
- 1:00:16It's amazing. No other franchise would have
- 1:00:19lost 14 pitchers, 4 starters and still be at the top of their
- 1:00:23division the way that they are unless they had this murderous
- 1:00:26row. Freddie Freeman, you know, he
- 1:00:29didn't have a great regular season last year, is battling
- 1:00:31some injuries. He's pretty good again.
- 1:00:34I mean, we saw it in the World Series.
- 1:00:36He hit that Grand Slam in game one that none of us are going to
- 1:00:38forget for a long time. You know, he hit he hit one of
- 1:00:41those home runs in every single game of the series.
- 1:00:43Doesn't even matter. Didn't even need to because he
- 1:00:45killed us. It was it was almost the same
- 1:00:47thing as Halliburton hitting that shot against the Knicks or
- 1:00:50even game one against the Thunder where that Grand Slam at
- 1:00:54that was the biggest momentum bust.
- 1:00:56Just absolute kill shot that I've seen in the World Series
- 1:01:00game one a long time. You would have to go back to
- 1:01:03like what's the biggest game one or we get to go back to the the
- 1:01:06Kurt Gibson, you know, on one with two bad legs, as Vin Scully
- 1:01:11said at the time, right, hitting that walk off home run all those
- 1:01:14years ago. Was it 35 years ago now?
- 1:01:17I mean, what he did is remarkable and they didn't even
- 1:01:20use Otani. This Dodger team is just they've
- 1:01:26got to be prohibitive favorites. If you can get good money on
- 1:01:29them right now, when guys are hurt, do it now at this.
- 1:01:33We don't have let's parlay till till Thursday, but I'm telling
- 1:01:35you right now I don't. See.
- 1:01:39I don't see it. I no no other team really blows
- 1:01:43me away. The giants are trying.
- 1:01:44They know Buster Posey knows that he's not getting past the
- 1:01:47Dodgers unless he beefs up that lineup.
- 1:01:49Now he's got Devers. I don't think it's enough yet,
- 1:01:52but I I like to see teams do that.
- 1:01:54The Padres didn't really add this year and Michael King this
- 1:01:58they just said don't expect him back anytime soon.
- 1:02:01We might not see him. Jabba.
- 1:02:02He's one of the guys that we. Mentioned.
- 1:02:04I don't, I don't, I don't think he's going to pitch this year.
- 1:02:07I don't think so either. It's some kind of shoulder
- 1:02:10thing. Upper scapula.
- 1:02:12They don't know exactly. Those are those are tough too
- 1:02:15you. Know that's three months
- 1:02:16regardless, Louise Heel has been out with something like that all
- 1:02:19year You. Know I don't think we'll get him
- 1:02:21back to after probably after the All Star break.
- 1:02:25Yeah, probably I, I would say August.
- 1:02:27Honestly mid to late July, early August I would think cuz like
- 1:02:31what how you supposed to like job.
- 1:02:32I've never had that injury and try to throw a baseball, you
- 1:02:35know, Have you ever had like an upper, like upper latch strain
- 1:02:39like that? I've never had that.
- 1:02:41I've had an oblique and a shoulder and obviously having an
- 1:02:45ankle. I've had an elbow, I've had a
- 1:02:47knee. I've never had that.
- 1:02:50So I, I can't speak on that and I don't know, but if they're out
- 1:02:56this long, it it's going to be extended because if it wasn't,
- 1:03:05it'd be like, oh, my night. I mean, I get knots in my
- 1:03:09shoulder. But like when you get it in your
- 1:03:11scalp, it, it throws both things off.
- 1:03:18So if they're not doing it and they're out this long, why are
- 1:03:24they not back yet? It's it's deeper than that.
- 1:03:27And that's why we've called the last three Tommy Johns in what
- 1:03:32we've talked about. Oh, it's a flexor strain.
- 1:03:35No, it's you're getting Tommy job.
- 1:03:38Sorry about your luck like. The the flexor is strained
- 1:03:41because you've been throwing with a torn elbow, dummy.
- 1:03:44Like that's why the flexor tendon strained.
- 1:03:47Not not you've strained your flexor tendon.
- 1:03:49If you keep going, you might hurt your elbow.
- 1:03:51Your elbows already hurt, dummy. It's it's hurt.
- 1:03:55You're done. You're like, how many of them,
- 1:03:59like you were able to pitch through it?
- 1:04:00Tanaka's the only one that comes to mind.
- 1:04:02They shut him down for the whole season that year.
- 1:04:04Well, no, Tanaka, he he didn't. Yeah.
- 1:04:08So he did not get Tommy John. He got an injection.
- 1:04:13It was like, I'm going to pitch through it.
- 1:04:16Some people can, some people can't.
- 1:04:19Yeah. He's he's one of the few in
- 1:04:22probably the last that I've been through.
- 1:04:26So it would have been what since covering baseball and playing
- 1:04:30baseball, so probably the last 15 years, that's somebody that
- 1:04:36probably should have had it that didn't get it.
- 1:04:38I always thought he should have because, you know, after the
- 1:04:41end, before the injury, we saw that splitter.
- 1:04:44That splitter was filthy. After the injury, it wasn't the
- 1:04:49same pitch. You just couldn't get it, no
- 1:04:51how. Hard.
- 1:04:51A splitter is on your elbow. I can only imagine.
- 1:04:54I can only imagine. I tried to do it and it fucking
- 1:04:57hurt. Wow.
- 1:05:00And I'm like and I couldn't do it like and always, always hold
- 1:05:03a baseball in my hands as a split finger, but I never did
- 1:05:07because to spread my fingers apart because how we do in
- 1:05:11baseball is we manipulate a baseball.
- 1:05:13Like I put pressure on different fingers on how to do things and
- 1:05:20I tried to throw it a couple times and I'm like, I don't want
- 1:05:23to do that. Like no, it doesn't feel good.
- 1:05:28I mean, I I just remember him when he came up and just
- 1:05:31watching that pitch by Otani that we showed a little earlier
- 1:05:33of that two seamer. It remind me of the Chin Ming
- 1:05:36Wong Tombs 2 seamer job of just going about 10 to 15 miles an
- 1:05:40hour faster, just diving like in and down off the plate.
- 1:05:44It was if he can throw like that in the game, I mean speedy.
- 1:05:50He didn't have a pitch like that when he was he was throwing a
- 1:05:53couple years ago, did he? Not that I remember.
- 1:05:56The hard 2 steamers, you see a lot of them with the younger
- 1:05:58pitchers when they come up because you have you want to
- 1:06:01have like a second type of fastball like that, whether it's
- 1:06:03that or a harder cutter and or a sinker.
- 1:06:06So you want to have that as a secondary pitch when you come
- 1:06:09up. But I don't yeah, I don't
- 1:06:09remember Ohtani having to rely on that.
- 1:06:11He was like he was mainly the 100 mile an hour fastball when
- 1:06:15he came up and then the curveball.
- 1:06:18Yeah, you saw the curve, you saw the the the four seamer at the
- 1:06:21at the letters. You saw a whole lot of that.
- 1:06:24We're seeing a whole lot of that on this clip when he was
- 1:06:25pitching with the Angels, you know, and then some of the, you
- 1:06:28know, there's a lot of that breaking stuff that you start
- 1:06:31seeing. It's not exactly a change up,
- 1:06:33but they kind of use it in a similar way, don't you think?
- 1:06:35Jabba with a lot of the Asian pitchers, they have a curve,
- 1:06:38they have a fastball and then everything else is some kind of.
- 1:06:42I don't know. Well, I mean, if if you want to
- 1:06:44go back and look at it and like, and when you know, you bring
- 1:06:49guys in like that and from the Japanese side and you look at
- 1:06:53guys in like the gyro Ball, think about that.
- 1:06:57And so it's like you're really not creating a pitch.
- 1:07:01It's it's just something that they do different because it's
- 1:07:05it's a different lead, it's different hitters.
- 1:07:09It's like it's just a different dynamic as a whole.
- 1:07:14And it was like, oh, Dice, K's going to come in and throw the
- 1:07:19Gyro Ball and, and I think he posted for 54,000,000.
- 1:07:24I'm like, really? What does that do?
- 1:07:29Didn't do much for him. And I'm like, well, he didn't
- 1:07:32stay long. And we?
- 1:07:35Finished off with the Mets. Yeah.
- 1:07:39And so, I mean, it just doesn't like for me, I loved it.
- 1:07:44Like I got to play there. There was one dude that I
- 1:07:47thought it was going to be really, really successful.
- 1:07:51And this was 2006. It's at Sushi Nomi, and he
- 1:07:55played for the Hossian Tigers. And I was with obviously the
- 1:07:59Yankees at the time. And we had signed Kay Yawa.
- 1:08:04And he told me he sucks. And I'm like, you played with
- 1:08:11him. I don't know, like I don't know,
- 1:08:14but know me and he never, he never posted, he never did
- 1:08:19anything. But he was 10 times better
- 1:08:25because I matched up with him in Hawaii probably 4 times and it
- 1:08:34was a battle. And that's the fun thing that I
- 1:08:38love. I got a dude next to me going,
- 1:08:41going, going like I got to beat you.
- 1:08:45I can't make a mistake. I can't do this because he's not
- 1:08:49going to. And I went two and one against
- 1:08:54him because I made a mistake one time and gave up A2 run Homer.
- 1:09:01But AAA in Japan to the big leagues is completely different
- 1:09:10because they are paid very similarly, but they also are
- 1:09:17very similarly the same context. And K gal.
- 1:09:23I'm like, I played with K gal and I was like, I would take a
- 1:09:29sushi know me any day of the week twice on Sunday.
- 1:09:35And it's just, it's crazy to see these things.
- 1:09:39And then you got to, you got a guy like Otani and it's like you
- 1:09:46throw your hands up because you can't do anything.
- 1:09:48Because we've had a Nomo, we've had an Arabu, we've had Kad
- 1:09:53Matsui. I mean, we've had so many.
- 1:09:56We've had an Ichiro, There's so many of them.
- 1:10:01Hideki Arabu was was great, Hideo Nomo when they first came
- 1:10:07in. But it's it's just completely
- 1:10:09different. It's completely different on
- 1:10:13what this man can do. And Errol hope, I'm hope you're
- 1:10:19having fun on the cruise and I'm still going to shit on you even
- 1:10:23though you're on the cruise. The show is the best player in
- 1:10:32the major leagues right now. Love Aaron Judge, love him.
- 1:10:36He's on a record-breaking season right now, but go throw pitches
- 1:10:43and see what happens. It's like Jabba Aaron Judge is
- 1:10:48putting up historic numbers, but if Shohei pitches the entire
- 1:10:52second-half, I think he'll have more war than Judge and Judge is
- 1:10:55going to have more war than anyone since Barry Bonds and and
- 1:10:59that that's how crazy this is. Well, he.
- 1:11:01He's on. He's to do that.
- 1:11:03No, that's what I'm saying like. Is he going to finish that?
- 1:11:06Well say he does, right? Say he does say he finishes at
- 1:11:09like 370 with like Babe Ruth type numbers, right?
- 1:11:13He's not going to hit their 70. No, I'm just saying like best
- 1:11:15case scenario, right, Say that's best case scenario.
- 1:11:19Even if he does that, if Otani pitches like a top ten, top 15
- 1:11:22pitcher the entire second-half of the season and continues at
- 1:11:26his pace offensively, he's going to have a higher WAR at the end
- 1:11:29of the season. And Judge, I think he is, and
- 1:11:32that's. What is that conversation
- 1:11:34though? That the conversation is if you
- 1:11:37can do both of those things, you're more valuable than the
- 1:11:39best hitter of all time having that season.
- 1:11:44That's that's kind of a crazy conversation to have.
- 1:11:46You could see Errol's side of it because he's pitting like 100%
- 1:11:51A. 100% I see that side of it. And that's the thing that he
- 1:11:55said early when we talked about this, like he shouldn't pitch,
- 1:12:00he shouldn't do this. And OK, that's yours.
- 1:12:04But at the same time, you aren't him.
- 1:12:09So how can you say, like, if he comes back and does this and he
- 1:12:14could be an average pitcher. An average pitcher shoves at a,
- 1:12:23gets 10 starts, or gets 5060 innings.
- 1:12:32How do you even compare that? You can't.
- 1:12:36It's tough and I think he'll get more than that.
- 1:12:38I think he'll get around 80 innings the rest of the way if
- 1:12:41he did. It I'm going to my my peak was
- 1:12:45when they said because it originally and I talked to a
- 1:12:49couple guys and they're like, because I originally thought he
- 1:12:53was just going to do a SIM game again and then they put him in
- 1:12:59the game, right. Yeah, well, I mean, they said
- 1:13:01it. You know, that would be speedy.
- 1:13:03I don't know if you saw this, but they said that and we got to
- 1:13:06move on to our next segment. But it would be easier for him
- 1:13:11to rehab by pitching in games than having to stop and gear up
- 1:13:16for a simulated game, then rest for a day and then.
- 1:13:20Preach. Sound familiar, Jabba?
- 1:13:24Yeah, been through it. That is tonight's show.
- 1:13:29We made it. We got through the second ever
- 1:13:32fish cast. The fish cast strikes back.
- 1:13:35It is over on Thursday. We're going to have another
- 1:13:39episode of the fish cast because Arrow is still there, so that
- 1:13:41one will be the return of the fish cast.
- 1:13:43Yes, that'll be if you guys follow along with the return of
- 1:13:46the Jedi type of motto I'm going on with here.
- 1:13:49If not, that's quite all right. We have sweetie, who do we have
- 1:13:53coming on on Thursday all. Right, so joining the show for

- 1:14:21It's about to get busy here too, because they just, they just
- 1:14:24called the CWS so. Well, guess what, CWS still
- 1:14:28going on rest of this week we're going to have, you know, more
- 1:14:32recaps of maybe the Stanley Cup Final.
- 1:14:34We'll wrap up before our next show.
- 1:14:35Maybe same thing with the NBA Finals.
- 1:14:37We're going to have plenty to talk about on Thursday.
- 1:14:39And we're going to talk about the CWS.
- 1:14:41Don't fucking forget that fish. Oh yeah, 100% live from Omaha,
