Lucas: Today we're going into the kitchen. We'll learn some basic kitchen utensils in German. Luna: Oh, I love cooking. So this is perfect. What's first? Lucas: Let's start with 'der Löffel'. That means 'spoon'. Luna: der Löffel. Spoon. Got it. Lucas: Good. Now 'die Gabel' — fork. Luna: die Gabel. Fork. That sounds kind of like 'gable' but with a softer g. Lucas: Exactly. Then there's 'das Messer' — knife. Luna: das Messer. Knife. Careful with that one. Lucas: And for eating, you need 'der Teller' — plate. Luna: der Teller. Plate. Sounds like 'teller' as in someone who tells a story. Lucas: Right. And finally 'die Tasse' — cup. Luna: die Tasse. Cup. Like a little cup of coffee. Lucas: Let's put them together. 'Ich brauche einen Löffel.' I need a spoon. Luna: Ich brauche einen Löffel. Lucas: Great. Now 'Ich habe eine Gabel.' I have a fork. Luna: Ich habe eine Gabel. Lucas: And 'Das Messer ist scharf.' The knife is sharp. Luna: Das Messer ist scharf. Sharp knife, got it. Lucas: Let's practice a mini dialogue. I'll be the waiter, you be the customer. 'Möchten Sie einen Teller?' Would you like a plate? Luna: Ja, bitte. Und eine Tasse. Lucas: Sehr gut. 'Hier ist der Teller und die Tasse.' Luna: Danke. That was smooth. Lucas: You're getting the hang of it.
