Speaker 1: It's The Happy Family's podcast. Very Christmas, You're Fealthy Animal
• 0:12
Speaker 1: and the Oscar goes too Oh my god, seeing it here,
• 0:21
  Speaker 1: I know him.
• 0:22
  Speaker 2: Well.
• 0:22
Speaker 1: Christmas is just around the corner.
• 0:25
Speaker 2: Have you noticed, Kylie, there's this switch between where in
• 0:28
Speaker 2: one breath we're relaxed, and then the next breath we're stressed,
• 0:31
Speaker 2: like we're trying to slow things down because everyone's going
• 0:34
Speaker 2: on holidays, but there's so much to do.
• 0:36
Speaker 1: There's so much going on.
• 0:37
Speaker 3: I just want to slow down. I'm not doing anything.
• 0:41
Speaker 3: I'm just hoping the kids are all going to catch
• 0:43
  Speaker 3: up with me.
• 0:44
  Speaker 2: There's a favorite quote, min Yeah, that's right. There's a
• 0:47
Speaker 2: favorite quote of mind that it's particularly pertinent at this
• 0:51
Speaker 2: point of the year when your kids are in your arms,
• 0:54
Speaker 2: they can't possibly be underfoot, because a lot of parents
• 0:57
Speaker 2: at the moment saying other kids is just under my
• 0:58
Speaker 2: feet all the time, and I'm trying to get stuff
• 1:00
Speaker 2: and they're sitting around staring at screens and doing nothing.
• 1:02
Speaker 2: We have got some solutions, by the way, I'm justin
• 1:05
Speaker 2: your kilie, parents of six kids. Happy families dot com
• 1:08
Speaker 2: dot you, the Happy Families podcast is bringing you some
• 1:11
  Speaker 2: solutions for Christmas.
• 1:14
  Speaker 1: Joy Christmas Bliss.
• 1:15
Speaker 2: I know that not everybody wants their kids to be
• 1:17
Speaker 2: watching screens all the time, but the reality is sometimes
• 1:20
Speaker 2: you kind of just have to right just to get
• 1:23
Speaker 2: through and keep saying.
• 1:25
Speaker 3: So we've compiled, well, how do you get the presents
• 1:28
Speaker 3: wrapped if they're not staring at a screen?
• 1:30
Speaker 1: You know, you got to stay up late and then
• 1:32
Speaker 1: you're tied the next day and cranky.
• 1:34
Speaker 2: So we have compiled a list of our top I
• 1:38
Speaker 2: was going to say top five, but there's no way
• 1:39
Speaker 2: we're going to. Last time we talked favorite movies, we
• 1:42
Speaker 2: ended up having like Poor Od Jr.
• 1:44
  Speaker 1: Our producer.
• 1:44
Speaker 2: Instead of doing our top five movies for whatever it was,
• 1:47
Speaker 2: we ended up doing like thirty. So supposedly this is
• 1:51
Speaker 2: going to be our top five Christmas movies for the kids,
• 1:53
Speaker 2: although I think we're going to veer into some adult
• 1:55
Speaker 2: ones as well, to help your family to have a
• 1:58
Speaker 2: happy Christmas, but also so that you can some peace
• 2:00
Speaker 2: and quiet. The kids can be watching Christmas, everyone can
• 2:02
Speaker 2: be getting into the spirit of Christmas. Christmas music can
• 2:05
Speaker 2: be on. That's where we're going today. Everyone can be
• 2:11
  Speaker 2: baking gingerbread.
• 2:13
Speaker 1: Hell, everyone, are you going to bake ginger bread?
• 2:16
Speaker 2: I was going to say, how unrealistic is what I
• 2:18
Speaker 2: just said. I've gone for the nostalgia, the romanticized version
• 2:20
Speaker 2: of what's happening. Truth is, nobody's going to be doing
• 2:23
Speaker 2: any of that sort of stuff except for the one,
• 2:25
  Speaker 2: poor soul.
• 2:26
Speaker 3: We've only just got the Christmas tree up for goodness
• 2:28
Speaker 3: to day it's decorated.
• 2:30
Speaker 2: There's literally a green Christmas tree sitting in the corner
• 2:33
  Speaker 2: with no decoration.
• 2:34
Speaker 1: What's surrounded by all my green plants. It actually doesn't
• 2:36
Speaker 1: look too bad naked. Yeah, I nearly said something I
• 2:39
  Speaker 1: shouldn't have said.
• 2:41
Speaker 2: So let's talk about Christmas movies before we g rated one,
• 2:46
Speaker 2: before we get to sidetracked with all that sort of stuff. Kylie,
• 2:49
Speaker 2: if you were to pick your all time favorite family
• 2:51
Speaker 2: Christmas movie, what would it be?
• 2:53
Speaker 3: I would have, once upon a time said the Polar Express.
• 2:57
Speaker 1: I'm wishing on a stern. Well you're coming.
• 3:04
  Speaker 3: Where?
• 3:05
Speaker 1: Why? Through the North Pole? Of course? This is the
• 3:08
Speaker 1: whole Express. Yeah, we used to love that film.
• 3:11
Speaker 3: But last year, when we watched a movie a night
• 3:15
Speaker 3: for each day leading up to Christmas, we got introduced
• 3:19
Speaker 3: to so many new movies and I now have a few.
• 3:22
Speaker 2: Favorites by the way, just before you talk about your favorites,
• 3:25
Speaker 2: I think it's worth highlighting that we took on more
• 3:27
Speaker 2: than we could handle by saying let's watch one Christmas
• 3:30
Speaker 2: movie each day with the kids or each night. That
• 3:33
Speaker 2: was exhausting. I couldn't stand it. It was just too
• 3:36
Speaker 2: much TV and too many things to do. Anyway, we
• 3:38
Speaker 2: did it, and now you've got a whole new list
• 3:40
  Speaker 2: of favorites.
• 3:42
Speaker 3: Well, and we can thank our staff for that because
• 3:44
Speaker 3: they actually introduced us to a couple that have now
• 3:47
Speaker 3: become literally my top three.
• 3:48
Speaker 1: Okay, so number one, I'm gonna say Klaus. Mister Klaus,
• 3:53
Speaker 1: you have a gift you were meant from making toys.
• 3:58
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, okay, so that's an Netflix special.
• 4:02
Speaker 3: You know the background behind Klaus. Wise, but because it
• 4:05
Speaker 3: was such an untraditional story, DreamWorks and Disney wouldn't pick it.
• 4:10
Speaker 2: Up, right, So for Netflix, good, Netflix got an unlimited budget.
• 4:14
Speaker 2: Let's do whatever we want.
• 4:15
Speaker 3: And I just love the take on the Christmas story
• 4:18
Speaker 3: that this movie portrays.
• 4:20
Speaker 2: So for those of you who haven't seen it, there's
• 4:21
Speaker 2: a boy who's being raised by a very rich dad.
• 4:23
Speaker 2: Rich dad's very cranky at the boy. It's a cartoon
• 4:25
Speaker 2: by the way because he's entitled and selfish and rich.
• 4:29
Speaker 2: Dad owns like the postal system in their country, so
• 4:33
Speaker 2: he sends his son to the most far reaching outposts.
• 4:37
Speaker 3: Samehrenberg. It's labeled the saddest place on Earth, and you
• 4:41
Speaker 3: see it in the depiction of the animation. Everything's just great.
• 4:46
Speaker 1: Hey, what do you guys think you're doing?
• 4:48
Speaker 3: This is Smirnsburg, the unhappiest police on Earth.
• 4:52
Speaker 2: And there are two warring families who just hate each other.
• 4:54
Speaker 2: And there is no postage service there like nobody actually,
• 4:57
Speaker 2: no one writes a letter. Everybody hates each and it's
• 5:01
Speaker 2: the story of how this young man, well, it's a
• 5:04
Speaker 2: coming of age and it's a hero story. He saves
• 5:08
Speaker 2: the town, he becomes a person who falls in love
• 5:11
Speaker 2: with the spirit of Christmas and changes everything.
• 5:13
  Speaker 1: It's a great movie.
• 5:14
Speaker 3: My second one is going to be.
• 5:18
  Speaker 1: Arthur Christmas.
• 5:20
Speaker 2: Hello Phillel's Jingle Jingle Jingle, Rod time eighteen point one.
• 5:25
  Speaker 3: Four second grows.
• 5:28
Speaker 2: We've got a staff member, Elizabeth, who told us how
• 5:30
Speaker 2: great Arthur Christmas was, and it was it was an
• 5:33
  Speaker 2: absolute jour.
• 5:35
  Speaker 3: I survive, I'll walk home, I'll get a boat, but
• 5:41
Speaker 3: I am never getting back in that crazy flying death
• 5:44
Speaker 3: trap ever again. I just I loved it. Here's this kid,
• 5:48
Speaker 3: he's Santa Claus, his son, and he just loves Christmas.
• 5:52
Speaker 3: But he gets in the way, is a glutz everything,
• 5:56
Speaker 3: but he endsed up actually saving Christmas this time.
• 5:58
Speaker 1: What's your third one?
• 5:59
Speaker 3: It's actually Evelyn's favorite cheese and Craigs.
• 6:04
Speaker 1: Oh is it Craigs as well? Elf?
• 6:06
Speaker 3: Okay, people tomorrow morning to dam Santa's coming down?
• 6:12
Speaker 1: Oh my god, Santa.
• 6:15
Speaker 3: Here, I know him so much fun. I probably would
• 6:19
Speaker 3: never ever have watched this. It has Will Farrell and
• 6:23
Speaker 3: I don't really like him very much as an actor,
• 6:25
Speaker 3: and I probably wouldn't have put it in as a
• 6:27
Speaker 3: kid's movie as a result of him being in it.
• 6:31
Speaker 2: He's absurd. He's absolutely ridiculously over the top absurd.
• 6:35
  Speaker 3: You stink.
• 6:36
Speaker 1: I think you're gonna have a good Christmas like beef
• 6:39
Speaker 1: and cheese. You don't smell like Xander.
• 6:41
Speaker 2: Okay, that's what makes it so delight so good. So
• 6:51
Speaker 2: are there any other great kids Christmas movies that you
• 6:54
Speaker 2: think we should mention?
• 6:54
Speaker 1: Because that's only three. I said we were going to
• 6:56
Speaker 1: do like a top five.
• 6:57
Speaker 3: I don't think you can go past a Christmas movie
• 7:00
Speaker 3: without giving a mention to Home alone. I've made my
• 7:04
Speaker 3: family disappear. We all grew up with that movie and
• 7:10
Speaker 3: it still has to be on the top. I'd say
• 7:14
Speaker 3: top ten movies ever.
• 7:16
  Speaker 1: Great slapstick comedy.
• 7:17
Speaker 2: And our children, even our teenagers, watch that and laugh
• 7:21
  Speaker 2: their heads off.
• 7:23
Speaker 1: Harry, how did you take your shoes off?
• 7:26
Speaker 2: Why the hell you dressed like a chicken.
• 7:28
Speaker 1: I'm gonna per you more. Aunts, come and get me.
• 7:35
Speaker 1: You guys, give up, you're thirsty for more.
• 7:38
Speaker 3: And the last one I'm gonna mention would be Santa
• 7:41
Speaker 3: Claus with Tim Allen?
• 7:42
Speaker 1: What you put on a little weight? A little weight?
• 7:45
Speaker 1: Does this look like a little weight to you?
• 7:47
  Speaker 3: And wait?
• 7:48
Speaker 1: Can fluctuate from you to ear fluctuate? You make it
• 7:51
Speaker 1: sound like I'm retaining water. I've given forty five pounds
• 7:55
  Speaker 1: in a week.
• 7:56
Speaker 3: Here's this guy who's single handedly destroys Christmas by interrupting
• 8:01
Speaker 3: Santa as he's trying to go down a chimney.
• 8:03
Speaker 1: And he falls off the roof.
• 8:12
Speaker 3: Her. Santa or Tim Allen Santa okay, and so his
• 8:16
Speaker 3: son sees it all happenings. You have literally killed Christmas.
• 8:19
Speaker 3: You've killed Sannah, right, so much fun.
• 8:23
Speaker 2: After the break, we're going to talk about a handful
• 8:25
Speaker 2: of other Christmas movies that may or may not suit
• 8:29
Speaker 2: the whole family, but you, as a parent might really enjoy.
• 8:35
Speaker 3: It's The Happy Family's podcast, the podcast for the type
• 8:38
Speaker 3: or parent who just wants answers now and hopefully today.
• 8:41
Speaker 3: We've given you a few options to keep the kids occupied,
• 8:45
Speaker 3: so you can do your Santa.
• 8:47
Speaker 1: Ring if that's necessary.
• 8:49
  Speaker 3: Wink quink.
• 8:50
Speaker 2: So there's a couple of movies that we didn't mention
• 8:52
Speaker 2: that I think need an honorable recognition.
• 8:55
Speaker 1: The first one is Christmas Chronicles Christmas Term the Ground.
• 9:07
  Speaker 3: Now.
• 9:07
Speaker 1: You actually were putting it on your list and I said, ah,
• 9:09
Speaker 1: you know, it's not really that good. You're a trickster.
• 9:11
Speaker 3: You just did it so you can have it.
• 9:13
Speaker 1: On your No, no, no, it's not what happened.
• 9:15
Speaker 2: What actually happened was that we watched the We watched
• 9:17
Speaker 2: the trailer, and I was like, oh, that is a
• 9:19
  Speaker 2: really good movie.
• 9:20
Speaker 1: I did enjoy that movie quite a lot.
• 9:22
Speaker 2: And of course there are a couple of other movies
• 9:24
Speaker 2: that again Christmas confession. Not only have I not seen
• 9:27
Speaker 2: the Santa Clause, I haven't seen Bad Center. What about
• 9:29
Speaker 2: the rain Deer. Would you please shut up about Reindeer?
• 9:32
Speaker 1: And I haven't seen the holiday. You're not Irish, or
• 9:35
Speaker 1: if you are, I'm much dronger than I realized.
• 9:38
Speaker 2: But everybody says that those must watch grown up movies
• 9:42
  Speaker 2: for Christmas.
• 9:43
Speaker 3: So I guess we're gonna have a few movie nights then.
• 9:46
Speaker 2: I still don't know if I want to watch them,
• 9:47
Speaker 2: to be honest, but everyone's been saying, you kind of
• 9:49
Speaker 2: talk about those movies. They are amazing, So we've talked
• 9:51
Speaker 2: about them even though we haven't seen them.
• 9:53
Speaker 1: Is that cheating? That's so cheating.
• 9:56
Speaker 3: Seriously, I hope you don't get in trouble. You don't
• 9:58
Speaker 3: even know what's in them.
• 9:59
Speaker 2: On top of that, I think we've got to acknowledge
• 10:01
Speaker 2: while Christmas is not a time of faith for everybody,
• 10:05
Speaker 2: there are a lot of people who listen to the podcast,
• 10:06
Speaker 2: and there are millions upon millions, tens of millions of
• 10:09
Speaker 2: people around the world who do have a religious faith.
• 10:11
Speaker 2: And there are some really wonderful, religiously oriented, faith producing,
• 10:16
Speaker 2: faith promoting movies about the Nativity. Different churches have them.
• 10:19
Speaker 2: They're available online. They're often free, and will link to
• 10:23
Speaker 2: a couple of those in our show notes for those
• 10:25
Speaker 2: who are interested in some nice Nativity movies and things
• 10:29
Speaker 2: that will help you to have the actual Christmas story
• 10:32
Speaker 2: Sands Santa, no Sander in these ones instead the religious
• 10:37
Speaker 2: foundations of where Christmas comes from. And I think that
• 10:40
Speaker 2: sometimes it's nice to just pause and say this is meaningful,
• 10:43
Speaker 2: even if it's not your religious faith. To talk to
• 10:45
Speaker 2: the kids about what the background is. Find one of
• 10:47
Speaker 2: the short ones, the ten or twenty minute ones that
• 10:49
Speaker 2: just step through it. I think that that can help
• 10:51
Speaker 2: us to appreciate what Christmas is all about for millions
• 10:55
Speaker 2: and millions of people around the world. We really hope
• 10:57
Speaker 2: that you've enjoyed the Happy Families podcast today and that
• 11:00
Speaker 2: it's given you a little bit of inspiration or just
• 11:02
Speaker 2: some nice reminiscence about how good the entertainment can be
• 11:06
Speaker 2: around Christmas time. We hope that these movies inspire you
• 11:09
Speaker 2: and your family to goodness and kindness and service and
• 11:14
Speaker 2: fun for this Christmas. The Happy Families podcast is produced
