- 1:02Speaker 1: But we don't.
- 1:03Speaker 3: We don't.
- 1:03Speaker 1: We don't have any windows in the studio. That's why
- 1:05Speaker 1: all of the every flu that gets into the studio here,
- 1:08Speaker 1: it almost gets more concentrated exactly bront right.
- 1:12Speaker 5: Yeah, So then the nausea hits, the body eggs. At

- 1:44Speaker 1: thirty and we've got forty. We've got four hours, we've
- 1:47Speaker 1: got a flash drive. And I tried my best to
- 1:51Speaker 1: get to every message because I'm that guy.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I saw the overwhelm and I just wanted to let
- 1:56Speaker 1: you know that I haven't hit the requests button yet
- 1:59Speaker 1: in my in box. So I'm going to go there
- 2:02Speaker 1: and say thank you for all the messages for the
- 2:04Speaker 1: birthday yesterday, I appreciate you so much. There were some
- 2:08Speaker 1: really really beautiful, heartfelt ones, and I think this weekend
- 2:11Speaker 1: showed me a lot about myself, and it showed me
- 2:15Speaker 1: a lot of gratitude, a lot of affirmation. And I
- 2:17Speaker 1: just want to say, if I haven't gotten to your
- 2:20Speaker 1: message just yet, thank you very much for the wishes.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I feel very special and I'm so grateful. Thank you.
- 2:27Speaker 3: You take all the time you need.
- 2:28Speaker 5: I called my family to say thanks for the messages
- 2:32Speaker 5: yesterday and my birthday's take.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Oh yes, okay, good, thank you. Worried time.
- 2:37Speaker 3: It takes time.
- 2:38Speaker 1: This morning I was at it and I was just
- 2:40Speaker 1: trying to say thank you very much. But also I'm
- 2:43Speaker 1: the type of person I don't like the whole like
- 2:44Speaker 1: just shop and then I leave it there. I do
- 2:47Speaker 1: want to say thank you so much for what you've said,
- 2:51Speaker 1: and I'm glad I've affected you this way. It's been beautiful.
- 2:54Speaker 1: But I just I feel great, like I feel really
- 2:57Speaker 1: really good. I feel ready. I feel like I saw
- 3:00Speaker 1: a new project. There's something about that decade hit, like
- 3:03Speaker 1: hitting the decade mark where you're feeling just like now

- 4:51Speaker 5: One hundred percent. Yeah, that was in my interview. When

- 5:25Speaker 1: Co today. There it is. Today clicks is offering you
- 5:29Speaker 1: a new chance to win, and it's a lovely one
- 5:32Speaker 1: ahead of Father's Day? Do you know what? The great
- 5:35Speaker 1: thing about my birthday being in June as well is
- 5:37Speaker 1: that like on each weekend now because now I get
- 5:40Speaker 1: a Father's Day weekend coming up as well. Yeah. Nice,
- 5:42Speaker 1: that's right.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I can't wait to celebrate a Father's Day when I'm
- 5:45Speaker 3: a father.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Yes, I can't wait till You're gonna be a great daddy,
- 5:48Speaker 1: thank you. Yes, you're gonna be a Cassi daddy. Sally Sally,
- 5:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Sorry. Some people reminding
- 5:59Speaker 1: me that you got free stuff on your birthday. It
- 6:01Speaker 1: was yesterday, so I couldn't get my spur ice cream.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I should have gone and get some. Have gone up
- 6:06Speaker 1: table Mountain I could have. Aquarium is another one I
- 6:09Speaker 1: could have. But it's all right, I've already got so
- 6:11Speaker 1: many blessings in my life. I don't need more free blessings.
- 6:15Speaker 1: The blessing is working with people like Cassidy Oh my gosh,
- 6:20Speaker 1: Pietrice and Karen Ann and every single person I works
- 6:25Speaker 1: in this building. Just don't get me emotional again. Right today,
- 6:31Speaker 1: we're building up to Father's Day. And here's the thing
- 6:35Speaker 1: I need to know. All the times your dad came
- 6:38Speaker 1: to the rescue. What is your favorite dad to the
- 6:41Speaker 1: rescue story. The more crazy and weird and interesting, the
- 6:46Speaker 1: better your chances of winning with clicks zero A two
- 6:49Speaker 1: nine four five zero nine four zero. I just add
- 6:52Speaker 1: your name and your ID number and your story, and
- 6:55Speaker 1: then you could be winning with clicks feel good, pay
- 6:57Speaker 1: less and k from nineteen four point five to the
- 7:00Speaker 1: rescue stories you see for me? And my dad's been
- 7:03Speaker 1: out of the country for a very long time, like
- 7:05Speaker 1: he's been working Dubai and then the Philippines. Yeah, so
- 7:09Speaker 1: when he wished me yesterday, he was literally in bed.
- 7:12Speaker 1: He had the phone over his head. Hey boy, happy birthday. Boy.
- 7:17Speaker 1: You know that's what my because my dad likes to
- 7:19Speaker 1: call me boy boy. Yeah, that's if If those who
- 7:23Speaker 1: know are laughing now hearing this, Okay, boy, Okay, now,
- 7:27Speaker 1: my dad's went to the rescue type of things. However,
- 7:30Speaker 1: he will do stuff and then you'll wake up to it.
- 7:34Speaker 3: No, I need you to break it down.
- 7:35Speaker 1: So I'll break it down to when he came down through.
- 7:37Speaker 1: So I threw my dad down for one of the festives.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I just wanted him to come to say hi to
- 7:42Speaker 1: the family. My dad is turning seventy in July, so
- 7:45Speaker 1: there's like me forty seventy. Okay, So I hear this.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I'm in bed and I'm hearing like this during the
- 7:58Speaker 1: things are moving in myus. So I'm like, okay, what's
- 8:01Speaker 1: going on this? Bra right, drove to a place called
- 8:05Speaker 1: gull Maar, purchased new draw rails and fixed my draws
- 8:13Speaker 1: in my kitchen. I didn't ever know there were problems
- 8:16Speaker 1: with the draws.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Is he Portuguese?
- 8:17Speaker 1: I don't know. There probably is some black line. There's
- 8:20Speaker 1: gotta be some blood somewhere. I wake up, I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa,
- 8:23Speaker 1: what's going on here? The man fixed all my like
- 8:26Speaker 1: the cupboards, the all of the hinges of the cupboards
- 8:29Speaker 1: and the drawers. So I know this is not a
- 8:31Speaker 1: Dad to the rescue story, but I didn't even know
- 8:33Speaker 1: I needed to be rescued because I've always wondered, like
- 8:36Speaker 1: for me, it's I'm not such a big handyman. So
- 8:39Speaker 1: what happens is when a cupboard is sticky, I'm like,
- 8:41Speaker 1: it's a sticky cupboard. Whoop, shame. But then you get
- 8:45Speaker 1: these people who are like, when they see something that's wrong,
- 8:47Speaker 1: they are driven to handyman action. I woke up to smooth, smooth,
- 8:53Speaker 1: like soft touch draws, and I'm like, and then also
- 8:58Speaker 1: I realized that the heavy pots were in the raw
- 9:00Speaker 1: that was in the second It should have been in
- 9:02Speaker 1: the last or at the bottom, and I'm sorry I
- 9:03Speaker 1: didn't know that. And my dad like he educated that
- 9:06Speaker 1: move things around pots and on the bottom draw I'm like, wow, like,
- 9:09Speaker 1: thank you for coming to the rescue at the moment.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Still today, my drawers are smooth. I think the Q
- 9:15Speaker 1: twenty that my dad put on there two years ago
- 9:17Speaker 1: is still wet. Okay, that's the dad to the rescue story.
- 9:21Speaker 5: You're out here thinking that your cupboards are just art deco. Meanwhile,
- 9:25Speaker 5: back at the ranch, the engines were done this smooth.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Now they probably were, And you know what, my dad
- 9:32Speaker 1: is the type of person who did this for you.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I'm like a landlord special, the cupboard guy, the guy
- 9:38Speaker 1: who put in my kitchen cupboards. Oh okay, you sure?
- 9:41Speaker 1: I'm like, yes, that okay. And he wants to like
- 9:45Speaker 1: he wants to comment on the professional who had like
- 9:47Speaker 1: twenty five years in cupboard experience. He wanted to challenge
- 9:50Speaker 1: this man. But I mean, that's what a dad does, right, right, right,
- 9:54Speaker 1: So I think that's one of my dad to the
- 9:55Speaker 1: rescue stories that I think I want to share is
- 9:57Speaker 1: because at the moment, if you come to my house,
- 9:58Speaker 1: my drawers and my cupboards smooth, you don't hear none
- 10:02Speaker 1: of that. It's just.
- 10:06Speaker 3: It's a bad day to be a hinge when your
- 10:08Speaker 3: dad's around.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Yep, Nope, that's it. My father's literally unhinged when it
- 10:13Speaker 1: comes to hinjure the stuff you're doing a lot I
- 10:15Speaker 1: am doing. You know what I can It is my
- 10:18Speaker 1: decade of a lot o line. It's Mary Mole in
- 10:33Speaker 1: my head. The number one check in the KVEM Top
- 10:35Speaker 1: forty on your show, the flash Driving KFM ninety four
- 10:39Speaker 1: point five. So great to have you if you didn't
- 10:40Speaker 1: take leave today. That's why Cassidy and I you we
- 10:43Speaker 1: didn't take leave either. We didn't because you didn't have
- 10:46Speaker 1: any leave left. You took a lot of leave, right,
- 10:48Speaker 1: that's what going No, we're not going here, but we
- 10:50Speaker 1: are going toward PEP stores bringing Flash with Junior to life.
- 10:54Speaker 1: We've always wanted to do this and it's been live.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Last week. You missed a chunk of the real cool
- 11:00Speaker 1: courses that came on.
- 11:00Speaker 3: I don't know why you keep bringing it up.
- 11:02Speaker 1: There were some really cool ones last week, like if
- 11:05Speaker 1: the flash wood were agg like ag agg Right, all right,
- 11:11Speaker 1: so it'll be something. How about this? Yes, okay, a
- 11:16Speaker 1: something you carry that has things in it.
- 11:19Speaker 3: A hand bag?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Thank you? You see. Yeah, it was very it was
- 11:23Speaker 1: really easy. It's gonna be a bit difficult this week
- 11:25Speaker 1: because we've got high schoolers going hit their head. Primary
- 11:28Speaker 1: school was last week, but every day we got a
- 11:30Speaker 1: new challenge of a new combination of competitors and a
- 11:33Speaker 1: two thousand PEP vouchers available as well as a one
- 11:36Speaker 1: thousand Constellation pepvoucher too. So no one walks away empty handed, yeah,
- 11:40Speaker 1: because that's the worst. Never. Never, it's gonna happen. So
- 11:43Speaker 1: if you have, oh, a luppy flash with agg a
- 11:47Speaker 1: rag that's correct. Yeah, she's so good. This is back. Okay,
- 11:53Speaker 1: I have a few more for you. Okay, okay, how
- 11:56Speaker 1: about when something droops sack.
- 12:01Speaker 3: That's right, look at us.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Okay is the other one? Oh? How about this? Say
- 12:06Speaker 1: an ailment post flight.
- 12:10Speaker 6: Jet lacks.
- 12:13Speaker 3: It's like it's like I've been a kid. Flash.
- 12:17Speaker 1: You've been incubating you know what I'm saying, and your
- 12:19Speaker 1: your brain is new. That is it's all the sleep
- 12:23Speaker 1: stomach flu died you so well so well yeah, so
- 12:25Speaker 1: I'm very proud of you than you are There any
- 12:27Speaker 1: others that I can No, no, nothing, nothing more, nothing more,
- 12:32Speaker 1: no no, no, nothing more. But now, if you want to
- 12:34Speaker 1: be part of that, it's very easy. I want you
- 12:36Speaker 1: to sign up your high schooler this week at Prime
- 12:38Speaker 1: diaplus dot com. They'll go hit their head with a challenger.
- 12:41Speaker 1: They'll represent the high school and themselves and your family,
- 12:44Speaker 1: no pressure, and win those varches from Pep. The number
- 12:47Speaker 1: one school shop has brought this to life and we
- 12:49Speaker 1: couldn't thank them enough. Insurant colored, beautiful people, Flash Word Junior.
- 12:56Speaker 1: It begins. Now it's the game. You just get the

- 13:12Speaker 1: playing high School Grade ten Skyler David's Hello, Hi, are
- 13:18Speaker 1: you excited?
- 13:20Speaker 6: Yes?
- 13:21Speaker 1: This is gonna be so cool. Thank you so much
- 13:22Speaker 1: for saying yes to playing Flashwood Junior. Have you played
- 13:25Speaker 1: it before?
- 13:27Speaker 7: No?
- 13:28Speaker 1: No? Okay, So this is how the game works. I
- 13:32Speaker 1: will give you five questions and you have to answer
- 13:34Speaker 1: them in thirty seconds. But the thing is, I'm going
- 13:36Speaker 1: to give you a little word that will be in
- 13:38Speaker 1: all the answers that I need. So let's you say,
- 13:40Speaker 1: if my Flashwood is up and I ask you something
- 13:44Speaker 1: that you drink out of, your answer will be cup
- 13:47Speaker 1: because up is in there.
- 13:49Speaker 6: Up.
- 13:50Speaker 1: You understand what I'm talking about, so don't. That's not
- 13:52Speaker 1: the Flashwood to day, but I just wanted to explain
- 13:54Speaker 1: it to you so lovely. This is gonna be so cool.
- 13:57Speaker 1: So what inspired you to play today?
- 14:01Speaker 5: Oh?
- 14:01Speaker 1: My mommy just randomly came in asked me to play.
- 14:05Speaker 1: And I think this Your mom randomly asked you. That's
- 14:09Speaker 1: the perfect way. I remember my mom actually randomly asked
- 14:12Speaker 1: me to do the dishes, and she randomly asked, asked
- 14:15Speaker 1: me to come home, and randomly asked me to finish
- 14:18Speaker 1: my homework. But when a mom comes to you and
- 14:20Speaker 1: randomly asks you to be a part of a radio competition,
- 14:23Speaker 1: you have a very very good mom. So I just
- 14:26Speaker 1: wanted to tell you that. Okay, very good. So wild done?
- 14:29Speaker 1: And how's school going? You're in grade ten? Right?

- 14:48Speaker 1: You know you're writing on life. That's cool. I love that. Well,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I just want to say good luck. You're going to

- 15:20Speaker 1: I love it? All right, So Skyler, you're gonna go first,
- 15:25Speaker 1: and I'll give you thirty seconds. I want you to
- 15:27Speaker 1: just forget about the So I'm going to play a
- 15:29Speaker 1: something that sounds like this. I want you to forget
- 15:32Speaker 1: about this in the background. That's just gonna go and
- 15:34Speaker 1: do its thing. I want you to focus on the
- 15:36Speaker 1: questions I give to you, and hopefully you can win
- 15:38Speaker 1: a two thousand rand PEP voucher. That's what I have
- 15:42Speaker 1: to offer you, so good luck. It's gonna be a
- 15:45Speaker 1: lot of fun, so just enjoy and roll with it.

- 22:53Speaker 1: Not me?
- 22:53Speaker 4: You?
- 22:54Speaker 1: Yes, I am you. I so much want to interject,
- 22:56Speaker 1: but then they've done such a good role. Are your dead?
- 22:58Speaker 14: No?
- 22:59Speaker 6: You are blind?
- 22:59Speaker 1: I'm not blind. You should I be here for this conversation.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Often I'm not. I want to, but then I don't
- 23:05Speaker 1: want to disturb you. This is something I observed this morning.
- 23:08Speaker 1: People who work in retail stores. They need to give
- 23:10Speaker 1: them more interesting things to do while they're waiting for customers,
- 23:13Speaker 1: because when I see one more person looking bored in
- 23:16Speaker 1: a shop, it doesn't make me want to walk into
- 23:18Speaker 1: that shop.
- 23:18Speaker 5: Well, well on that, just give me a second before
- 23:21Speaker 5: you ask me if I need any help.
- 23:22Speaker 1: It happens with restaurants and managers. They wait for that
- 23:24Speaker 1: first bite to go into your mouth, you're not done chewing,
- 23:27Speaker 1: and then come to hive alright here, nasty have you guys? Yeah,
- 23:30Speaker 1: you're on front.
- 23:31Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying.
- 23:32Speaker 1: The food grind, just just give me a shaken. Your
- 23:36Speaker 1: mouth's full of food, and then I will ask for
- 23:37Speaker 1: a review. It's still in my mouth, but I like,
- 23:39Speaker 1: I haven't even swallowed. We have we have good times,
- 23:50Speaker 1: great time. Let's have another good time today in a
- 23:53Speaker 1: special edition of We Lessen and we don't don't judge.
- 23:59Speaker 1: We don't judge. Yes, we don't judge.
- 24:04Speaker 6: I've got one.
- 24:05Speaker 15: Okay, I didn't really have one, but I had someone
- 24:07Speaker 15: that phoned me and it was such a great on
- 24:09Speaker 15: pop that they wanted to come in to share the
- 24:11Speaker 15: on pop.
- 24:12Speaker 6: So I said they could come in.
- 24:13Speaker 15: Okay, okay, so yeah, they're going to come in now
- 24:16Speaker 15: to come and give their pop.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Yes, this is different.
- 24:19Speaker 15: Did you call Henny? Well sort of, did you. Yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 15: let me just go see where they are.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Okay, no, no, that's fine.
- 24:27Speaker 6: Journeys to the door, okay, wonderful.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Oh my, oh my dear.
- 24:44Speaker 16: Hevy doing great things.
- 24:52Speaker 1: For your career. Whoa len Le's Yeah, don't wish me
- 24:58Speaker 1: every birthday? Come, thank you. That was fine, that's fine.
- 25:15Speaker 1: We're live.
- 25:16Speaker 3: You don't work on radio.
- 25:17Speaker 5: It's okay, thank you, Oh, thank you so much.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Look at you? Come get up my yes, like good
- 25:29Speaker 1: old mo. Hello, Hello, welcome back to South Africa. What
- 25:35Speaker 1: a nice surprise. Miss this man so much. I know
- 25:40Speaker 1: I didn't get to respond to his voice. Did he
- 25:41Speaker 1: send me one of the most beautiful voice that I
- 25:43Speaker 1: ever received my entire life, And I want to say
- 25:45Speaker 1: thank you?
- 25:46Speaker 17: And then I'm interview with well, you know what I
- 25:48Speaker 17: actually had a mine un popped that I was thinking
- 25:51Speaker 17: of was if I get sent to a voice note
- 25:53Speaker 17: on my birthday, you have to give me seven business
- 25:55Speaker 17: days to respond. And I was like, I'm giving you
- 25:57Speaker 17: seven days, thank you very you don't have to straight
- 26:00Speaker 17: away at all. Because I sent him this podcast of
- 26:02Speaker 17: a voicemaire and then I sent it. I was like, Bro,
- 26:04Speaker 17: this man's a busy man. The chances that he's going
- 26:08Speaker 17: to actually listen to this right now is crazy. But
- 26:10Speaker 17: I meant every word. You're a wonderful man. You've impacted
- 26:13Speaker 17: so many people in this world. And wow, this world's
- 26:15Speaker 17: a better place with you, and and it's amazing.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Sh you're a champion. Wow, sir, Yeah, exactly, this is great.
- 26:21Speaker 1: That's true. What they say, where there's a world, there's
- 26:23Speaker 1: a waste.
- 26:24Speaker 6: No, that's true.
- 26:25Speaker 15: And he really wanted to be here like Saturday evening.
- 26:29Speaker 15: So this is how this all transpired. Saturday evening at
- 26:33Speaker 15: that little soiree you had. I get a message from
- 26:37Speaker 15: another mutual friend going Will wants to be on the
- 26:41Speaker 15: show on Monday. Oh man, I was like done, and
- 26:45Speaker 15: then he phoned me at like it's city this morning.
- 26:48Speaker 3: That's crazy, that's crazy.
- 26:51Speaker 1: So I'll be still gonna because you know, I had
- 26:53Speaker 1: such a But the problem is that my pop was
- 26:59Speaker 1: going to affect this man's industry and now I'm gonna
- 27:02Speaker 1: have to do it in front of him. So you
- 27:04Speaker 1: just blindsided me so bad.
- 27:05Speaker 3: I love the fact that you've turned forty because now
- 27:08Speaker 3: you don't care.
- 27:08Speaker 1: No, I do care it. Okay, Well, hear me out, Okay,
- 27:13Speaker 1: but this is not you. Okay, it's not you. My
- 27:17Speaker 1: thing is. It's about tech writers. Yeah, so you just
- 27:22Speaker 1: hear me out your This is so awkward. Why would
- 27:24Speaker 1: you do this to me on a day where I'm like,
- 27:26Speaker 1: I got such a good one, Dory, I think I'm
- 27:28Speaker 1: I'm going to agree with me, Okay, cool. So's the
- 27:31Speaker 1: tech writer thing. So I saw a tech writer and
- 27:33Speaker 1: some of them are seen for certain events that we do,
- 27:36Speaker 1: and on the tech writer is like fifteen red bulls,
- 27:40Speaker 1: eight bottles of vodka, twelve beers, sixteen bottles of tequila
- 27:47Speaker 1: and this is all part of their tech writer. So
- 27:49Speaker 1: I'm thinking like, if the artist right, if the artist
- 27:52Speaker 1: is asked for a tech writer, it should be tech
- 27:55Speaker 1: if they need anything. If the company is giving you
- 27:58Speaker 1: catering instructions, then that's good for catering. But I don't
- 28:02Speaker 1: understand why people who are going to work and getting
- 28:05Speaker 1: paid to work are actually getting catered for for like
- 28:08Speaker 1: a party backstage. You're there to work. Remember, I don't
- 28:11Speaker 1: call my boss and say, hey, boss, coming to work today.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I'm looking for lunch. I'm looking for something high protein
- 28:17Speaker 1: and then maybe a protein shake as well. No, you
- 28:19Speaker 1: know what I do. I bring my own lunch to
- 28:21Speaker 1: work every day. So I'm just saying, when the tech
- 28:23Speaker 1: writer has on it something that is so extravagant, I
- 28:27Speaker 1: feel like you're taking advantage of the people who are
- 28:29Speaker 1: kind enough to hire you for the gig teas so well,
- 28:34Speaker 1: I'm sorry if you are one of those.
- 28:35Speaker 17: Well, it's awkward for me because when I first played Daisies,
- 28:41Speaker 17: I had my management and my people from international teams
- 28:46Speaker 17: coming through, so it was a big crew and it
- 28:48Speaker 17: was the first time that I pulled together a hospitality rid.
- 28:50Speaker 17: So my manager was like, cool, let's get like two
- 28:53Speaker 17: cases of beers, let's get a bottle of wine, and
- 28:55Speaker 17: you know, so that everyone's cater for backstage. He's also
- 28:57Speaker 17: a cheeky little guy. You're like, push the bar. But now,
- 29:01Speaker 17: what I didn't realize is we've been sending that same
- 29:03Speaker 17: hospitality writer to all the gigs that we played. So
- 29:06Speaker 17: and the only people that rock up to the gigs
- 29:08Speaker 17: are me, my drummer, my guitarist, and like a front
- 29:11Speaker 17: of house. Yeah, and we are like, we're clean on
- 29:13Speaker 17: the road. We don't drink a lot, sometimes have a
- 29:15Speaker 17: beer after the show just to like cheers to the show.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Yeah, but we are like so clean on the road.
- 29:19Speaker 17: So then we rock up and the guys are like,
- 29:21Speaker 17: here's your sixteen beers and we're like, oh.
- 29:24Speaker 1: My gosh, we're so sorry.
- 29:25Speaker 17: This is because they look at us like you're a
- 29:27Speaker 17: bunch of alcoholics, and we're like, no, I'm so sorry.
- 29:29Speaker 1: This isn't us. This isn't us.
- 29:31Speaker 17: So we've actually had to start changing it and making
- 29:32Speaker 17: sure that people get the right rider because there's a difference.
- 29:35Speaker 17: There's the tech writer, which is like, yes, I need
- 29:38Speaker 17: this speaker setter, and that the hospitality one's crazy when
- 29:41Speaker 17: they're like I've heard some people are like I want
- 29:43Speaker 17: only the green Eminem's and you're like, bruh, come on.
- 29:48Speaker 1: That's that's the one I'm talking about. I think that's
- 29:49Speaker 1: a little bit of advantage taking in that. But I
- 29:53Speaker 1: realized that sometimes well, you know, people get so hammered
- 29:57Speaker 1: backstage and then they have to perform, and then that
- 29:59Speaker 1: person has it has been paid to performance fee that
- 30:01Speaker 1: pay their band, et cetera, and you want to do
- 30:03Speaker 1: the best. So I just it was something that I
- 30:05Speaker 1: had seen over the weekend for a certain person's hospitality rider,
- 30:09Speaker 1: and I was thinking, Oh, I'm a guy, who I
- 30:12Speaker 1: do I bring my own meal prep to work. Imagine
- 30:14Speaker 1: me courting my boss and saying, hey, I'm coming to
- 30:16Speaker 1: work today looking for a lunch. Maybe a little Kauhi wrap, yeah,
- 30:20Speaker 1: protein shake, shave up. You know, imagine how cheeky I
- 30:23Speaker 1: would be if I had to do that in this industry.
- 30:25Speaker 1: But I'm glad I need to get that off my chest.
- 30:26Speaker 1: And I just think, if you're privileged enough to get
- 30:29Speaker 1: booked for a gig, respected enough to not get hammered
- 30:32Speaker 1: backstage with a massive hospitality rider and have a great
- 30:35Speaker 1: time performing and being a part of your passion.
- 30:38Speaker 15: But I also think, just remember there's people that are
- 30:40Speaker 15: looking at these hospitality riders, yes, and like a tech
- 30:44Speaker 15: rider like well said, I get that, I get, But
- 30:47Speaker 15: remember there's other people that look at these hospitality riders and.
- 30:51Speaker 6: They are like, really, you're playing at nine o'clock.
- 30:54Speaker 15: Do you really need twelve savannahs to be a room
- 30:57Speaker 15: temperage at nine o'clock in the morning.
- 30:59Speaker 1: People like Lindy is an alcoholic and no, I drink water.
- 31:02Speaker 1: I'm telling you it's so bad. Oh, I'm so glad
- 31:06Speaker 1: I got that. I didn't. You can clearly know who's
- 31:09Speaker 1: going to be here today. Thank you very much for that.
- 31:10Speaker 1: That is the best surprise ever. It's actually my writer,
- 31:12Speaker 1: he read and he's like, no, no, no, it wasn't
- 31:21Speaker 1: his at all. Cassidy changed the subject quickly. You want
- 31:25Speaker 1: to share one?
- 31:27Speaker 3: Do I want to share one?
- 31:28Speaker 5: You know, I'm full of hot takes, but I was
- 31:30Speaker 5: sick last week, so I just have time to spend
- 31:33Speaker 5: with myself.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Oh that's good.
- 31:34Speaker 3: I don't have hearts.
- 31:36Speaker 6: That's what you want be about yourself?
- 31:38Speaker 1: So what did you find out about yourself last week one.
- 31:40Speaker 3: Nothing, I'm perfect.
- 31:43Speaker 1: There's an unpopular opinion right there. How dare you?
- 31:50Speaker 6: Oh man?
- 31:51Speaker 1: And well, while you were here, I had to play
- 31:54Speaker 1: your song on Saturday without you being there to tell
- 31:56Speaker 1: me about it, which I loved. I loved that lost
- 32:00Speaker 1: I lost. Yeah, it is such a beautiful track. Come on.
- 32:03Speaker 1: It is the best two minutes and fifty six seconds
- 32:05Speaker 1: of my life over the weekend. Come on, it was
- 32:07Speaker 1: a beautiful you doing for this weekend? Just Didney cook yessidy?
- 32:13Speaker 1: I know what I'm doing it. I'm going to the room.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Know what I'm doing it. Okay, No, when you so
- 32:18Speaker 1: obviously when you dropped you were overseas. But now you're back.
- 32:20Speaker 1: And how long are you back for?
- 32:22Speaker 17: I'm back for about six seven weeks now? Oh sorry? Yeah, yeah,
- 32:25Speaker 17: seven weeks.
- 32:26Speaker 1: That's so cool.
- 32:27Speaker 18: Man.
- 32:27Speaker 17: Are you gonna be able to rest a bit a
- 32:30Speaker 17: little bit a little bit in between and yeah, I've
- 32:32Speaker 17: got a bunch of gigs and that type of thing, okay,
- 32:34Speaker 17: and then a little bit of writing in between, and
- 32:37Speaker 17: y'are just trying to trying to still stay busy and
- 32:39Speaker 17: do the thing.
- 32:40Speaker 19: No.
- 32:40Speaker 1: I got back on Friday.
- 32:42Speaker 17: We went straight into Josie did the weekend there and
- 32:44Speaker 17: then Flint to Cape Thomas.
- 32:45Speaker 1: You were with Matthew yesterday?
- 32:46Speaker 17: Yes?
- 32:47Speaker 1: Oh man, how amazing is Matthew moll This guy the best.
- 32:50Speaker 1: He's He's the greatest human being alive. I asked him
- 32:54Speaker 1: if he do a collab with you, and he said
- 32:55Speaker 1: he's waiting for you to say yes. I'm waiting for
- 32:57Speaker 1: him to say Okay. It's like he's like my hero.
- 33:00Speaker 1: That's the thing.
- 33:01Speaker 17: It's like, and he will hate me for saying this,
- 33:03Speaker 17: because he's the most humble human being is.
- 33:06Speaker 1: But like, genuinely I.
- 33:09Speaker 17: Bumped Matthew More songs my whole teenage high school career,
- 33:13Speaker 17: and like, Matthew More was my South African music hero,
- 33:17Speaker 17: Like he was the person who I looked to for inspiration,
- 33:20Speaker 17: who I like when I started making music. I was like,
- 33:23Speaker 17: if I can play a gig with Matthew More, I've
- 33:25Speaker 17: made it in the South African music industry. And then
- 33:28Speaker 17: like he's just been the nicest, most wonderful, kind human
- 33:31Speaker 17: being ever. Yeah, And it's nice to actually say these
- 33:33Speaker 17: things without him interrupting and being like no, but you will,
- 33:35Speaker 17: and you're like, no, Matthew, You're amazing. He's just like
- 33:39Speaker 17: the most humble, wonderful, kind human being ever and so talented.
- 33:43Speaker 1: I called him to tell him that this song went
- 33:45Speaker 1: made number one last weekend on the k of him
- 33:47Speaker 1: Top forty Roe come on, and he was like, oh no,
- 33:49Speaker 1: but but you number one. I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, mathew,
- 33:53Speaker 1: take it in, take it in, you number one. But
- 33:55Speaker 1: it's just that type of human being. Some I'm glad
- 33:57Speaker 1: you enjoyed the gig. I'm so happy to have you
- 33:59Speaker 1: back home, man, And thank you the surprise and for
- 34:01Speaker 1: the cheesecake, which is my favorite. I don't know who
- 34:03Speaker 1: told you that.
- 34:04Speaker 17: Come on, I just I just I just totally knew
- 34:06Speaker 17: the cheesecake was your favorite.
- 34:08Speaker 1: It is my favorite. Thank you everybody. That's great. No,
- 34:11Speaker 1: but really, it's just it's such it's so good to
- 34:13Speaker 1: you know. When you have your overseas, I sit quietly
- 34:16Speaker 1: and I'm like, I'm so proud of this guy. And
- 34:18Speaker 1: I know you're doing some great things. I know you're
- 34:20Speaker 1: working on new projects and your last album is still
- 34:22Speaker 1: hitting like it's fresh. So I'm hoping that that you
- 34:27Speaker 1: are just resting a little bit and enjoying that because
- 34:30Speaker 1: I know it's not going to be over, so there
- 34:32Speaker 1: wouldn't be a reason to cry. Yeah, you wouldn't cry anyway.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Thanks for that album. But I have a feeling that
- 34:38Speaker 1: you are brewing something, trying, you are doing something. I'm
- 34:42Speaker 1: writing as much as I can, no, I can tell.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I mean, you got a song on off campus. It's
- 34:47Speaker 1: crazy about series on the planet listen. I didn't realize
- 34:51Speaker 1: how big this series was going to be. It was
- 34:53Speaker 1: crazy until like a few days before the song came out.
- 34:56Speaker 1: I was invited to like a like a pre released
- 34:58Speaker 1: thing before the show, ca as a party with the
- 35:01Speaker 1: cast and whatever and the like. The list to get
- 35:04Speaker 1: in was impossible. Like we were standing and I was
- 35:07Speaker 1: with someone from my label and they were like, yeah,
- 35:09Speaker 1: we got Will He's on the soundtrack. And they were
- 35:11Speaker 1: like yeah, who and we're like no, yeah, totally yeah,
- 35:14Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah, sorry.
- 35:15Speaker 17: But suddenly there were like a whole bunch of people
- 35:18Speaker 17: waiting outside screaming for the cast. I walked in and
- 35:21Speaker 17: like all the casts are playing like be upon with
- 35:23Speaker 17: a whole bunch of like security guards all around there,
- 35:25Speaker 17: and You're like, what what is going on? Like then
- 35:27Speaker 17: I was suddenly like okay, whoa Like this is a
- 35:29Speaker 17: different beast and I'm just some like musician from South Africa.
- 35:33Speaker 1: It's just rippin.
- 35:35Speaker 17: But it's been the craziest, most wonderful month ever and
- 35:38Speaker 17: it's been so cool to see the impact of the show.
- 35:40Speaker 1: And yeah, it's been it's been awesome and that's what
- 35:43Speaker 1: I'm talking about. But it is on that soundtrack. It's
- 35:45Speaker 1: the most sort of the song. I'm seeing people making
- 35:48Speaker 1: videos all over TikTok with it. It's just it's such
- 35:51Speaker 1: a good song. When you did how did you hear
- 35:53Speaker 1: about it? Or did they discuss this beforehand? How did
- 35:56Speaker 1: that negotiation happen? So I wrote that song.
- 35:58Speaker 17: It's the fastest song that I've had from it being
- 36:02Speaker 17: written to being released.
- 36:03Speaker 1: So I wrote that in February.
- 36:04Speaker 17: I wrote it on my first day on my writing
- 36:08Speaker 17: trip in La I wrote it with a friend of mine, Jack, Charlie,
- 36:11Speaker 17: and Travis, And initially it was kind of like a
- 36:15Speaker 17: last minute session. We had like pulled the session together
- 36:18Speaker 17: the night before I went in. It was me, Travis,
- 36:21Speaker 17: and Jack, and then my friend Charlie phoned me. He
- 36:24Speaker 17: was like, bro, my session literally just left me. After
- 36:26Speaker 17: thirty minutes. The artist just walked out the room like
- 36:28Speaker 17: can I just come and join your day? I hope
- 36:30Speaker 17: I'm not like interrupting. We were like yeah, pull in,
- 36:32Speaker 17: he got there too. We started a different idea and
- 36:36Speaker 17: then at like four, Charlie was like, dude, should we pivot?
- 36:39Speaker 17: Let's try something different. And I'm a big believer in
- 36:42Speaker 17: the pancake theory. The first pancakes always the worst. The
- 36:44Speaker 17: second one will be better. And that's the same as songs.
- 36:46Speaker 17: Sometimes in a session, the first one sucks and the
- 36:48Speaker 17: second one will be better.
- 36:49Speaker 11: Ah.
- 36:49Speaker 17: And we pivoted and we wrote this This song just
- 36:52Speaker 17: like fell out from the sky into our laps. It
- 36:54Speaker 17: was one of those like really cool, like aha moments,
- 36:57Speaker 17: and wrote it. I didn't think much of it. I
- 36:59Speaker 17: sent it my team and they were all like, whoa,
- 37:01Speaker 17: this is amazing. I was like, okay, cool. And then
- 37:03Speaker 17: I played for my girlfriend and she was like, wait, whoa,
- 37:06Speaker 17: that's that's my favorite one of the day. That's so good.
- 37:08Speaker 17: That's so good. And I was like okay. And then
- 37:10Speaker 17: a week later, my a art my label sent a
- 37:13Speaker 17: message to our group chat just being like, hey, we've
- 37:15Speaker 17: got this hold for a series. It's called off Campus.
- 37:18Speaker 17: We don't know it rarely like if anything's going to
- 37:20Speaker 17: come with it. But Holding the Line is one of
- 37:22Speaker 17: the songs that we're putting forward for it, and it
- 37:24Speaker 17: got confirmed and it got put It's just four seconds
- 37:27Speaker 17: in the series, but it's more than none, so I
- 37:30Speaker 17: take it.
- 37:30Speaker 1: It's amazing. It's so cool. No, that's that's why it's
- 37:33Speaker 1: so powerful. In four seconds, You've been able to shake
- 37:35Speaker 1: people and say, I want to hear the rest. That
- 37:38Speaker 1: is musical genius wildernly, that is what it is. I'm
- 37:42Speaker 1: so happy that I got this opportunity and I feel
- 37:45Speaker 1: so good, so blessed. I need to play you something
- 37:47Speaker 1: on the Matthew, mall thin, give me a second. Have
- 37:49Speaker 1: you guys ever considered working together?
- 37:51Speaker 11: Oh my words, that would be the best. We've we've
- 37:53Speaker 11: written a little bit together, but we haven't specifically worked
- 37:57Speaker 11: on it. I mean I would love to, and we
- 37:59Speaker 11: need to get everyone to go invincible to do it
- 38:01Speaker 11: because I will.
- 38:02Speaker 1: That's a dream, man, really, okay, I must tell well
- 38:05Speaker 1: that though, I must know.
- 38:07Speaker 11: This is this is where you make more magic because
- 38:10Speaker 11: you're so good at bringing people together us. If you,
- 38:12Speaker 11: if you make it happen, Oh man, you will make
- 38:14Speaker 11: my dream come.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Maddie let's go. Yeah, let him cook, let them cook.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Oh my word, this is great. Uh So it's nice
- 38:26Speaker 1: to be a part of a collaboration and people have
- 38:28Speaker 1: been wanting Will, then Ny, Matthew Moore and DJ Calways,
- 38:31Speaker 1: that's right. I'm going to be involved. I'll do ad
- 38:33Speaker 1: libs all the day.
- 38:34Speaker 17: Yeah yeah, yeah, whoa yeah, it's like an Idols edition.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Come on, move your buddy, come whoa yeah. Yeah. Man,
- 38:46Speaker 1: what a surprise. Will Lindley is here. Are you? Are
- 38:49Speaker 1: you busy? Yes? Oh are you busy at the moment?
- 38:52Speaker 1: And I'm saying to stick around. I'm here a couple more.
- 38:56Speaker 1: I'm here the whole afternoon as long as you want me. Listen,
- 38:59Speaker 1: you can kick out now, that's okay, No, no, no, no,
- 39:01Speaker 1: I'm here to stay. I love you, okay, I love
- 39:04Speaker 1: you more. I love you more.
- 39:05Speaker 3: I'm just yeah.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah you too, Cassidy, we love you too. All right.
- 39:09Speaker 1: So so Will's here, stick around, and we're going to
- 39:11Speaker 1: choose which song to play, the new one or the
- 39:13Speaker 1: holding the lines song or an older one. We're just
- 39:16Speaker 1: going to relax and just do it. So that's what
- 39:17Speaker 1: I'm talking about. That's coming up very soon. But this
- 39:20Speaker 1: is your show of Flash Drive KFM manty four point five.
- 39:22Speaker 1: I never thought that it would become this. I never
- 39:24Speaker 1: thought we'd pivot all the way through into a session
- 39:27Speaker 1: of yes, we listen and we don't judge to literally
- 39:31Speaker 1: Will Linley, and we're not judging it all because he's here,
- 39:34Speaker 1: So stick around for that. It's KFM ninety four point five.
- 39:38Speaker 1: And shoot, do you want to do some traffic now
- 39:40Speaker 1: while we add it. I'm very excited that this man
- 39:42Speaker 1: is here. You want to hoist something, please let you down.
- 39:45Speaker 1: So if you would like to play the concept that
- 39:47Speaker 1: is coming up very very soon. In fact, that'll be
- 39:51Speaker 1: I'm going to say, just after half poss six, I'm
- 39:53Speaker 1: gonna shifted a bit because we've got guests. Will is here,
- 39:56Speaker 1: Will Linley, he came through to say hi and wish
- 39:59Speaker 1: me happy birthday and Cassidy yes, yes, you know.
- 40:02Speaker 17: It was actually redid the whole happy birthday thing and
- 40:06Speaker 17: I actually had a whole other present for her.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:09Speaker 5: He gave it to me on his knees, mind you,
- 40:11Speaker 5: and we were the same height.
- 40:16Speaker 1: I wasn't gonna say it, I saw it.
- 40:19Speaker 5: One thing about being thirty is I'm embracing whatever it is.
- 40:22Speaker 1: You know that's I'm glad you see you got a
- 40:24Speaker 1: gift it well for the fourth and me for the fourteenth.
- 40:26Speaker 1: It's like that, so we all connected your Yeah, just
- 40:29Speaker 1: to celebrate not only this moment, but also you. You
- 40:32Speaker 1: have two hot songs out man. You need to pick
- 40:34Speaker 1: which one you play, because I played the fresh one
- 40:36Speaker 1: I Loved I Lost and that that song is really good.
- 40:40Speaker 1: It's just just there was something so familiar about the track.
- 40:44Speaker 1: It felt like I could harmonize with it and sing
- 40:46Speaker 1: with it, which I loved, which is really good. H
- 40:49Speaker 1: And then this holding the line that we chatted about,
- 40:51Speaker 1: which is on the off Campus soundtrack. Do you want
- 40:53Speaker 1: that one or the I Loved I Lost? Have you
- 40:55Speaker 1: already played I Loved it last today? I know I
- 40:57Speaker 1: played it on Saturday, Saturday. I play this today, guys, Okay, yes,
- 41:03Speaker 1: I love that. I love that. Just a quick one
- 41:05Speaker 1: on the song as well, because I hold in the
- 41:06Speaker 1: line is a very quick process for you. You told us
- 41:08Speaker 1: about that, but this one is very special. You've been
- 41:11Speaker 1: teasing this for a while. I need to know a
- 41:12Speaker 1: bit more about I Love the Loss. This took a
- 41:14Speaker 1: minute to write.
- 41:14Speaker 17: I wrote the chorus or like the skeleton of the
- 41:17Speaker 17: chorus in January, just on my piano at home, and
- 41:19Speaker 17: then I took it into a session with two mates
- 41:22Speaker 17: of mine who I did American Dream with and sometimes
- 41:24Speaker 17: so then I close collaborators of mine, and we wrote
- 41:27Speaker 17: this at the end of the day, and I kind
- 41:29Speaker 17: of wrote this from that like idea of you know,
- 41:34Speaker 17: the fear and the anxiety of like what happens one
- 41:36Speaker 17: day when we die? Like do are we just forgotten?
- 41:38Speaker 17: What happens? Are people talking about us?
- 41:40Speaker 1: Is? What is that?
- 41:41Speaker 18: Like?
- 41:43Speaker 17: The impact that you have on the people around you,
- 41:44Speaker 17: and the desire to want to live a life that's full,
- 41:48Speaker 17: that is meaningful and impactful. And this song kind of
- 41:52Speaker 17: got born out of that. And all the verses are
- 41:54Speaker 17: you know, there's the I lived, and then these the
- 41:57Speaker 17: I love and then that I lost at the end
- 41:59Speaker 17: with my grands So it's kind of like all a
- 42:01Speaker 17: little little like bite sized moments of the different parts
- 42:04Speaker 17: of life that we kind of embrace.
- 42:07Speaker 1: I love this idea. I love the idea of us
- 42:09Speaker 1: living a life so that we know that we can
- 42:12Speaker 1: read back and literally say we've taken the chances, we've
- 42:17Speaker 1: we've we've gone and made the decisions we've made, the failures,
- 42:20Speaker 1: we've had the successes, but you have to make it
- 42:22Speaker 1: as interesting as possible, which means we can't really live
- 42:25Speaker 1: that safe life, always doubting ourselves, going for the safest option. Yeah,
- 42:29Speaker 1: And I'd like to know, what is the riskiest thing
- 42:33Speaker 1: that you've ever done that paid off?
- 42:35Speaker 17: Well, I don't know if it's if it's risky, I
- 42:38Speaker 17: guess it's more for me like the the the risk
- 42:43Speaker 17: and the jump that I'm so proud that I took.
- 42:45Speaker 17: In the last let's say, two three months, was going
- 42:48Speaker 17: all out for the show at Costinbosh. There's a there's
- 42:52Speaker 17: you can either play that show with just like the
- 42:54Speaker 17: band on stage and a black background and like you
- 42:57Speaker 17: kind of save costs in that sense. But I decided
- 43:01Speaker 17: to just be like, this might be the last time
- 43:03Speaker 17: I ever played coerson watch who knows, like every show
- 43:05Speaker 17: could be your last, and you best go in there
- 43:09Speaker 17: and do it to the best of your ability. And
- 43:11Speaker 17: so I bought my guitarist Paul out from the from
- 43:14Speaker 17: he's actually living in Brazil, but brought him out to
- 43:16Speaker 17: play the show with us. He did all the visuals
- 43:18Speaker 17: we had like SYNCD up time, code Visuals behind us,
- 43:21Speaker 17: and it was one of those things that you know,
- 43:23Speaker 17: it was really expensive to do, and we certainly didn't
- 43:27Speaker 17: make a profit on the show, but it was one
- 43:29Speaker 17: of those things that was like, this is bigger then
- 43:32Speaker 17: just like you know, earning some income on the show.
- 43:35Speaker 17: It's like, no, no, no, this is about music. This
- 43:37Speaker 17: is about a live experience. This is about living and wow,
- 43:42Speaker 17: backing yourself and doing the thing that you're proud of.
- 43:44Speaker 17: And that was one thing that I could have seen
- 43:47Speaker 17: the two pars to go down, and I'm so glad
- 43:49Speaker 17: that I picked the one that meant that I now
- 43:51Speaker 17: hold on to the show for the rest of my life.
- 43:53Speaker 1: I've got videos of that show.
- 43:55Speaker 17: We've done a whole bunch of live videos that we're
- 43:56Speaker 17: going to put up on YouTube and watching those back,
- 43:58Speaker 17: I'm just so proud that I did that and took
- 44:01Speaker 17: the risk and took the jump to do the big
- 44:03Speaker 17: thing that hopefully impacted the way people saw live music
- 44:07Speaker 17: and saw live music in South Africa.
- 44:08Speaker 1: And that's the risk is no profit, no money made
- 44:10Speaker 1: of the show, but the payoff is the fact that
- 44:13Speaker 1: you did something like a contribution to the history of
- 44:17Speaker 1: South African music and live performance, and I think that's
- 44:19Speaker 1: that's very special. Thank you, Cassidy. I love that. Biggest
- 44:23Speaker 1: risk you took, oh that I took, they paid off.
- 44:26Speaker 1: I'm going to be going around the room because this song,
- 44:28Speaker 1: I think is such a good toast to these moments.
- 44:31Speaker 5: The biggest risk I ever took, I think was just
- 44:35Speaker 5: talking even when people told me to stop, because I
- 44:39Speaker 5: mean I've spoken about it before, right. A lot of
- 44:42Speaker 5: the time kids get told like, oh, they talk too much,
- 44:44Speaker 5: they talk too much, they talk too much, and they
- 44:45Speaker 5: get shamed. But I was one of those kids, right,
- 44:48Speaker 5: I got I got taken out of the class, not
- 44:50Speaker 5: even rearranged that they put my desk outside the classroom
- 44:55Speaker 5: because Cassidy talks too much. And I must say it
- 44:57Speaker 5: was something that I was really ashamed of the longest
- 45:00Speaker 5: time when I was a kid. But it's like, my
- 45:03Speaker 5: communicational skills were through the roof and I knew how
- 45:06Speaker 5: to network, I knew how to strike up a conversation.
- 45:09Speaker 3: I knew how to.
- 45:10Speaker 5: Hold my own So that Cassidy talks too much has
- 45:15Speaker 5: now translated to oh that Cassidy, the one that always
- 45:19Speaker 5: has something funny to say, or the one that you
- 45:21Speaker 5: know knows how to fill the void type thing. So
- 45:24Speaker 5: I think that risk I could have either let those
- 45:28Speaker 5: things that were said about me get to me, or
- 45:31Speaker 5: I could have.
- 45:31Speaker 3: Been like, yeah, watch me talk even more. You know
- 45:35Speaker 3: what I'm saying.
- 45:36Speaker 1: So I think that one that's beautiful. Thanks, this is amazing.
- 45:40Speaker 1: A couple of years ago, there was a boy and
- 45:45Speaker 1: he was struggling a lot, but he managed to get
- 45:47Speaker 1: a bursary to study psychology at UCT and the bursary
- 45:50Speaker 1: was to take him all the way through until he
- 45:52Speaker 1: got his master's in psychology. And then what happened was
- 45:55Speaker 1: he was also working as a part time MC in clubs,
- 45:58Speaker 1: and then there was a certain radio station there was
- 46:00Speaker 1: there and some person gave him an email address and said, hey,
- 46:03Speaker 1: you should be on radio, and the boy said, no,
- 46:06Speaker 1: I'm not really radio material. I'm just doing this to
- 46:08Speaker 1: pay for my stationary so I can continue studying psychology.
- 46:11Speaker 1: And then the one morning, which was the morning after
- 46:14Speaker 1: I got the email, which is a Monday morning, I
- 46:16Speaker 1: did all my admin at the job I was at,
- 46:18Speaker 1: and I sent an email and I said, hey, so
- 46:20Speaker 1: and so said that I should go through to do
- 46:22Speaker 1: a voice test with you. I have no idea what
- 46:24Speaker 1: a voice test is, but let's just do it. And
- 46:26Speaker 1: I thought, let me just try.
- 46:27Speaker 3: That's amazing.
- 46:28Speaker 1: I tried, and then they made me a sport presenter,
- 46:33Speaker 1: and then I got too many inconsistent stand in gigs
- 46:36Speaker 1: during that time, and then the boss said to me,
- 46:39Speaker 1: look here, not much more we can give you. And
- 46:42Speaker 1: then I actually said to him, maybe radio isn't for me.
- 46:46Speaker 1: But it's been a good four months and I really
- 46:48Speaker 1: appreciate it, but I need a stable job so I
- 46:51Speaker 1: can look after my family because I was a breadwinner
- 46:53Speaker 1: at the time, and I took a massive risk and
- 46:57Speaker 1: I actually got a full time job, but I said
- 47:00Speaker 1: to the job, no, I'm going to go to this
- 47:02Speaker 1: one because I think that something's coming. And that's something
- 47:05Speaker 1: was a full time sport presenter role on a certain
- 47:09Speaker 1: drive show. Coincidentally, I was working with Tracy Lang, who
- 47:12Speaker 1: I work with at K from thirty four point five
- 47:15Speaker 1: at this other radio station, and the biggest risk was
- 47:18Speaker 1: to take all of the insecurity of that time and
- 47:21Speaker 1: the inconsistency and income and literally say to myself, you
- 47:25Speaker 1: know what, for one time in your life, dude, just
- 47:28Speaker 1: bet on you and don't bet that things fall so
- 47:31Speaker 1: you can be there to pick everything up. Maybe just
- 47:33Speaker 1: bet on you for us for a moment. And I
- 47:35Speaker 1: bet on myself and I became a sport presenter. Later
- 47:39Speaker 1: I became a presenter of a teen's only show called
- 47:42Speaker 1: The Teen Show. And on it went until I got
- 47:45Speaker 1: a call from k from nirty four point five to
- 47:47Speaker 1: come over. And that was that boy that took that
- 47:51Speaker 1: other gap year in the middle of his studies after
- 47:53Speaker 1: getting a Bachelor of Social Science from UCT, I'm on
- 47:56Speaker 1: my eighteenth gap year.
- 48:00Speaker 3: I need to count putch gap.
- 48:01Speaker 13: I'm on.
- 48:02Speaker 1: That's incredible, yure. Yeah, that's a story. So you know what,
- 48:07Speaker 1: that's great because you know what we we lived, we loved,
- 48:11Speaker 1: we lost, but this is all part of our story. Yeah,
- 48:16Speaker 1: thank you, will for surprise me for my book. What
- 48:17Speaker 1: you did? Thank you what you did? What I did? Nothing?
- 48:20Speaker 1: I did nothing. Here we go. Here's a song for you,
- 48:24Speaker 1: and don't forget to share your story. Be proud of me.
- 48:29Speaker 1: I know this guy. This is such a you know what,
- 48:32Speaker 1: it's a song that I want to hear at the
- 48:34Speaker 1: end of a cool sitcom or a cool movie.

- 48:40Speaker 17: not no I'm joking. Imagine I was in a new
- 48:43Speaker 17: series coming out. I love that last that would be
- 48:46Speaker 17: so cool.

- 48:48Speaker 1: feel so special for my my fortieth birthday and for
- 48:51Speaker 1: Cassidy's theirtieth birthday. Thank you. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, I
- 48:55Speaker 1: love it. But I'm glad you're for seven weeks, so
- 48:57Speaker 1: you know we've got some time just to spend with
- 48:59Speaker 1: one another. So let's do a little bit often, please, Okay,
- 49:01Speaker 1: you promise. Yes it is well Linley, where there's a Will,

- 49:28Speaker 1: come on, take it down everybody. Will's here and he
- 49:34Speaker 1: got a new song. And this guy can never be wrong. Yes,

- 1:17:29Speaker 1: this lovely run of psychology today. I want to do
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: something different tomorrow's use day. And I was figured, what
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: if what if we do songs that reminds you of
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: your childhood? Like everybody has a song that will remind
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: them of a like their childhood. I know the childhoods
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: quite a big span, but sometimes you just hear the
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: song like, oh my word, I remember myself there, and
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: then you just you locked away in this thought and
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: it's the best feeling ever because there was no problems,
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: there was no bond you have to pay, there was
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: it was a good moment in your life. And that's
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: a song that I want you to select for psychology
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: because I believe the nostalgia of good music is as
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: good as therapy. Do you have a song?
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: I do now as much as I was the og
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: ave Levine Girly.
- 1:18:15Speaker 5: There is one song in specific that I'm referring to,
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: not actually ave Levine, where I remember standing on my
- 1:18:23Speaker 5: little colorful table and having my hair brush or whatever
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: as my microphone, and that was no doubt, don't speak?
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: Is that your song?
- 1:18:32Speaker 12: That was?
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: I have such vivid memories of that.
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: Oh my word, I can actually picture you and the
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: irony of people telling you not to speak so much,
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: and you're like, don's man, I have no doubt. Let
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: things span up perfectly for you. Yeah, I love it, man, No, really,
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: that's that's spot on childhood songs.
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: Yes, do you have one?
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: Oh my? Would I have one?
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: Is it gonna make me laugh?
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: No, it's just like it's it's very random, but it
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: reminds me of like and it's just for some reason,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: this is childhood for me. Back in the day, my
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: move used to stay in Kensington and there was a
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: song that I will always remember being played in the
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: background and when I hear it, I'm like, oh what,
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: I'm there again?
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: Started counting.
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: This is what neys all at once, and I'm feeling
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: that I'm actually feeling enough dreams.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: Shannon, You're the.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: I don't know why, but this song reminds me of
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: the good times in Kensington Avro Avenue. I will never
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: forget it. And just like when all the kids played
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: in the street at once. Don't ask me why the song,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: but it just it'll take me there forevermore all at
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: once by Whitney. It's just one of those childhood songs
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: for me.
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: It just sounds like an orange glass. Do you know
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: what I mean? You know this orange glasses? Yes, and
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: like a Coca Cola hit different in that orange glass.
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: It actually reminds me of my grandfather. He had these
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: strange like it's transparent, but it had like a charcoal
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: tinged to it, mug for his coffee. It reminds you that.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: It also reminds me of really dark wood couches. Okay,
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: in cabinets. It reminds me of the brown that's the
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: one that's the dark wood brown thing and it's super
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: over varnished. Yes, has that that's the one. I'm talking
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: about that and I'm amost talking about the brass in
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: the display cabinet. It reminds me of actually having display cabinets.
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: We don't have those anymore. We don't what happened to those?
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: Why don't we have to splay cabinets anymore? Yeah? Have
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: you noticed that I've never seen anybody with a display
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: cabinet in their house long time. I'm a millennial, I
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: didn't have a display cabinet.
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: Yeah, because you really like minimalism.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: That's very truth. Have nothing up on my walls exactly systhetically. Please, Okay,
