- 0:46Banana and peanut butter would be like.
- 0:49It's good. Right about now, banana and no
- 0:51peanut butter and apple kind of go together right?
- 0:53But I've never had that apparently.
- 0:54It's really good. I don't know.
- 0:56Probably a comment down below if you've ever had peanut butter
- 0:58and apples, let me know if it's any good.
- 1:00Anyway, guys, moving on from that.
- 1:01If you haven't downloaded my free Autism Life Hacks PDF book
- 1:04you can do at autismhacks.net you got right now.
- 1:08So Tourette's Syndrome and Autism.
- 1:11So Tourette and autism have a a relationship.
- 1:13Right. And I want to talk about it
- 1:15because a lot of people ask me questions you know and pretty
- 1:17much all my videos are from people ask me questions Hey do
- 1:20you know about Tourette syndrome and and do you know about autism
- 1:23and is autism and Tourette's and them linked together and so
- 1:26let's let's let's just right down to the basics.
- 1:28So Tourette syndrome and autism are two different conditions.
- 1:31They can Co occur in some people.
- 1:33I know of one person personally who has Tourette's syndrome and
- 1:36autism. But Tourette syndrome is usually
- 1:40diagnosed independently of any other condition, which means
- 1:43it's just on its own right. And so Tourette syndrome is when
- 1:46someone has the inability to control certain outbursts, which
- 1:49are called ticks. Now, these could be verbal,
- 1:52there could be noises that you make, like grunts or whatever,
- 1:53or it could be like your arm moving or or like throwing your
- 1:56arms sideways and thrashing out. And very, very interesting.
- 1:59There's no kind of cause for this.
- 2:01They don't really know what causes it.
- 2:03It's definitely kind of neurological.
- 2:04But there's no, there's no real cause like they they they can't
- 2:07pinpoint it to being a 'cause. Right.
- 2:09So in terms of are they linked to autism?
- 2:11Well, neurologically, well, yeah.
- 2:13You know, autism is a neurological neurodevelopmental
- 2:16condition. And so it is possible that
- 2:19autism and Terete are linked together because well, of
- 2:22course, you know, autistic people have ticks as well.
- 2:24I actually have ticks where I like, hit my chest and I go all
- 2:28the time and you know, it just takes, man, I get loads of
- 2:32ticks. I also get ticks where I just
- 2:33kind of I like, I like shower and I kind of like tense up all
- 2:38the time. That's kind of an interesting
- 2:39one that really annoys me. But it's just a tick and we
- 2:41learnt to just deal with the fact that it's just a tick and
- 2:43that's it. So Tourette's syndrome is super
- 2:47interesting that it actually impacts one in, sorry, one in
- 2:51163 people on average. And it's a difficult condition
- 2:54to deal with at times because you could be kind of physically
- 2:56lashing out at people and shouting the verbal abuse of
- 2:59people, but not trying to, you know, must be horrible for the
- 3:01people who have that condition. Just horrible.
- 3:06But those impulse ticks who are like involuntary noises and
- 3:09stuff, they could be anything from burping, farting to to
- 3:13shouting to sniffing. Like there's there's so many
- 3:15different things and it's usually things that are like
- 3:19seen as kind of like aggressive or kind of a bit like taboo in
- 3:25in Western civilizations. Like you wouldn't like want to,
- 3:28you know, have someone shouting at you whilst walking down the
- 3:29High Street. So you know, the the link that
- 3:32exists between them, the both conditions, that they're both
- 3:35neurological and that they both have ticks.
- 3:37Now you can have autism and kind of Tourettes together, but I'm
- 3:41thinking that it'd be harder to diagnose the Tourette's in
- 3:44autism because autism does encompass ticks, you know, like
- 3:46random ticks and involuntary tick actions and stuff like
- 3:49that. And so I would say that it it's,
- 3:53it's less common to be diagnosed with autism, but it is quite a
- 3:56common condition to be diagnosed.
- 3:57I actually know of a couple of people who do have Tourette
- 3:59syndrome, actually a really good friend of mine called Pamela,
- 4:02She's a comedian and a YouTube. I'll leave a link for a channel
- 4:04down below. And she has Tourette syndrome.
- 4:06And I met her when I was doing a like a thing in.
- 4:10I met her when I was doing this thing in MIT in America.
- 4:13We were doing kind of like a disability symposium or
- 4:16something for like 10 days. It was really, really good.
- 4:18But she was so interesting and the fact she has threat syndrome
- 4:22and she does comedy was just great.
- 4:24Because one thing that I did notice that was the same between
- 4:27autism and Tourette syndrome is barking now.
- 4:31She barks in her sleep and so do I like, I back in my sleep.
- 4:35It's crazy. I my girlfriend is always like,
- 4:38dude, you're barking and you sleep again.
- 4:40I'm like, oh man, it's so like bizarre.
- 4:43But it's something that happens, you know, barking in my sleep.
- 4:45I just do it. I don't know why.
- 4:46I don't even know I'm doing it right.
- 4:48Backing, growling like a dog. But she also backs and growls in
- 4:50a sleep like a dog. And it was really funny because
- 4:52she said, you know, I back in my sleep and, you know, she was
- 4:54making a joke about it and I was like, dude, I do it too.
- 4:56So I guess, you know, Tourette and Austin do have kind of
- 4:59similarities of the way the brain works and the function of
- 5:01the brain work because it's neurological, right.
- 5:03But at the end of the day, they are separate conditions and they
- 5:05can be diagnosed separately. But it's really fascinating.
- 5:08Definitely check out Pamela's channel, man.
- 5:09She's really interesting. Now guys, if you found value in
- 5:12this video, please share on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
- 5:14And if you liked it, please get your thumbs up and I'll see you
- 5:17next time guys. Peace.
