Transcript
- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Money Loyalty Legacy.
- 0:02My name is Matt. Hand out which Boy Ross AKA the
- 0:04Champ. Today we would like to introduce
- 0:08the first female Ultimate Fighter Tournament winner.
- 0:12UFC honored her in 2021 with Performance of the Year as well
- 0:17as Upset of the Year Awards. Proud Mother fighting Saturday,
- 0:21October 5th to regain her UFC bantamweight title.
- 0:25Please welcome former champion Juliana Pena.
- 0:28So we're going to switch it up a little bit from your normal
- 0:30interviews. This is something I've been
- 0:32literally been dying to ask you for years.
- 0:35OK, so you're the first ever mom champ, correct Ross and I saw
- 0:40your fight, I guess Amanda right the first one.
- 0:43And can I just tell you how ecstatic I was when you won,
- 0:47especially because like I you know what boggled my mind was
- 0:50like you had so many doubters and and it's like, have you
- 0:54never seen her fight before? She beat multiple other ex world
- 0:57champions, just extremely talented fight on the feet, on
- 1:02the ground, your endurance, your toughness.
- 1:04I mean, your jab in the second round with with Amanda was like
- 1:08George Foreman level, You know what I mean?
- 1:10Like it's seriously, I was like, what?
- 1:12What are all these even like the announcers like when Daniel and
- 1:15Joe were calling your fight, it sounded like they were shocked
- 1:17when you're just smoking on the feet.
- 1:19And I'm like, how exhilarating was that when you had a just a
- 1:23dominant performance and proved the entire world wrong.
- 1:26You know what I mean? That was that not the most
- 1:28exhilarating feel feeling ever. It was definitely up there.
- 1:31I definitely can say that I was very excited.
- 1:34I was an 11 to 1 underdog. I think that was like the
- 1:36biggest underdog that the sports ever seen.
- 1:38So to to get that moment, it's just another one of those things
- 1:41where it's like I'll be going down in history for that.
- 1:44And you know, that's all what it's really about is making sure
- 1:47that I submit my name in in the in the sport and making sure
- 1:50that, you know, when they go through the history of the sport
- 1:53that they can say my name is one of the women that were one of
- 1:56The Pioneers in the sport. Absolutely, without a doubt.
- 2:00I think a, a a little bit with Amanda, I think she had a little
- 2:04bit of an aura because she faced Chris Cyborg, right?
- 2:07And Chris Cyborg was like the boogie woman of of women's
- 2:10fighting, right? You know, she's built
- 2:12differently than a lot of women. They say she walks around
- 2:16between like 180 a 190 lbs. I don't know if that's true or
- 2:19not, but she's just a beast, right?
- 2:21And for Amanda to knock her out, the whole world was in shock,
- 2:25right? Because here's this, here's this
- 2:26fighter that's just been so dominant for so long and then
- 2:28here comes Amanda putting the boogeyman asleep, right?
- 2:31And then you come in and now you're the monsters there,
- 2:34right? And I was like, you know,
- 2:37everybody was I, I feel like even for like fair weather MMA
- 2:41fans that don't didn't really follow your fights or didn't
- 2:44know who you were, they just kind of watch once in a while at
- 2:46the bar or whatever, right? I think that that whole
- 2:49connotation with Amanda beating Cyborg was a reason why a lot of
- 2:53people are just like she's invincible now, but they
- 2:56underestimate your work ethic, your abilities, your skill set,
- 2:59your mindset, blah, blah, blah, else, you know, and I feel like
- 3:02when you, when you took that fight, your goal was to fight
- 3:05fire with fire, if I'm correct, you, you went aggression
- 3:10overload. And I feel like Amanda didn't
- 3:12know how to take that pressure and just kind of went full force
- 3:15at her and proved the world wrong.
- 3:18Yeah. That that's accurate.
- 3:20Thank you for that. It wasn't just Chris Cyborg.
- 3:23It was the Holly Holmes, the the Ronda Rousey's, the Misha
- 3:26Tate's. It was literally the who's who
- 3:28of the entire division and just taking off heads left and right,
- 3:31knocking everybody out and just proven why she was, you know,
- 3:34the best striker that the division has ever seen.
- 3:36So for me, obviously I had been calling for the fight for so
- 3:40many years. I had been trying to get the
- 3:42fight with Rhonda, couldn't get the fight with Rhonda.
- 3:44I'd been calling for the fight with Amanda and she just kept
- 3:46saying, you know, one more, one more, you know, at at one point
- 3:49she had told me that I was unworthy to to fight her.
- 3:51So knowing that I had a game plan in the back of my pocket of
- 3:55what I was going to do when that time came, I just needed
- 3:59somebody to give me the opportunity to do it.
- 4:02And then I did exactly what I said I was going to do.
- 4:05I remember when I got called to go to Singapore as a guest
- 4:10fighter for the UFCI was four months pregnant and they didn't
- 4:13know that I was pregnant and I had to do AQ and A with all the
- 4:16fans. And they had asked me, how do
- 4:21you think that the fight is going to go with Amanda?
- 4:23And I said, I'm going to drag her out into deep water and I'm
- 4:25going to choke her. And so for me, it was like
- 4:28everyone thought that it was just a surprise fluke.
- 4:31And it was just this, this thing that just happened just because
- 4:34she had COVID her an off night. And I'm like, no, I've actually
- 4:36been saying this for like 5 years.
- 4:38I've been saying the same thing for five years.
- 4:40And it wasn't some surprise thing.
- 4:42It's like, I'm telling you how I'm going to beat her.
- 4:43I'm showing you how I'm going to get it done.
- 4:46And then when I got it done there, I just had nothing to say
- 4:48to to Daniel, what's his name? Daniel Cormier.
- 4:52Yeah, except DC, that's what I always call him.
- 4:55DCII just had nothing left to say except for I told you so,
- 4:59you know, so it was just one of those things where it was like
- 5:01no one believed me. I believed in myself.
- 5:03My team believed in me. But I just needed that
- 5:06opportunity to show everybody what I knew in my heart and what
- 5:08I knew in my head was true. Yeah.
- 5:10And I think that's important because watch in the first
- 5:12fight, the second fight, I think your nickname should almost be
- 5:16Terminator because you just keep going and they're like, there's
- 5:18a second, third punches. That's what Rock and are, you
- 5:20know, you see that and her look at her faces like, what the hell
- 5:24just happened? She wasn't ready for it.
- 5:25And it's awesome to see that because we're watching it live.
- 5:27Yeah, I think that in the second fight I was completely under the
- 5:34notion of I'm going to win this fight come hell or high water,
- 5:40no matter what, no matter what I have to do, I'm going to win.
- 5:43And when I saw her come out as a southpaw, I by just her being a
- 5:48southpaw. And not to say that I've never
- 5:50seen a southpaw before, because when I fought Valentina
- 5:53Shevchenko and when I fought Katzingano, they were southpaws.
- 5:55So I had seen southpaws before. But for some reason when I saw
- 5:59her standing in southpaw, I was like, something doesn't look
- 6:04right and I can't put my finger on it.
- 6:06I'm not really sure what it is, but this is like weird.
- 6:10And then I could just hear my corner screaming at me,
- 6:12southpaw, southpaw, southpaw. And I was like, Oh no, I didn't
- 6:16prepare for this. Like what do you mean southpaw?
- 6:19So that fight was literally won or lost in the 1st 10 seconds of
- 6:22the fight. When I saw her coming out
- 6:23southpaw, I knew mentally that I was going to lose like right
- 6:27then. But I had to, you know, I had
- 6:30already determined that I was going to win come hell or high
- 6:32water. So I gave my life to continue
- 6:36the fight. And you know, my fight with her
- 6:39on number one was more dominant. I feel like because I made her
- 6:42tap the mat, I made her say uncle.
- 6:44She wanted out of there. She wanted nothing to do with me
- 6:47in the second fight. She still wanted nothing to do
- 6:50with me because I turned the best striker in the entire
- 6:53division into. She had to change her entire
- 6:56game plan, her entire style in order to beat me and she didn't
- 7:00want any smoke on the feet. So then she shoelace tackling
- 7:02and trying to take me down for her life because she doesn't
- 7:04want to stand in the pocket and fight with me because she knows
- 7:06she can't win there. But she did drop me several
- 7:09times. But to my credit, I got right
- 7:11back up and I will say that I never had gone 25 minutes before
- 7:19and so that was also new. I was exhausted and I was
- 7:23pulling literal blood out of my eyes.
- 7:25I remember laying on my back and just pulling all of this blood
- 7:28out of my eyes. I couldn't see.
- 7:29I've never seen my own blood before.
- 7:31I think I still will say, though, to my credit, that did I
- 7:37really lose because I didn't tap and it went to I lost on the
- 7:40scorecards. But like, only one of us walked
- 7:43out of there with crutches in a wheelchair with half of their
- 7:45face swollen shut like elevantitis.
- 7:47And it wasn't me. I had a mere flesh wound, you
- 7:51know, that it looked worse than it was.
- 7:52And it just bled a lot. But like, if you look at her was
- 7:55like, no, you can't even walk. Like if it was like, lock these
- 7:58two girls in a room and who's going to come out alive?
- 8:00I'm still willing to bet that it's going to be me.
- 8:03And I have to agree with that because watch that fight.
- 8:05I recently watched her recently, you know, before I was
- 8:07interviewing you and you didn't stop.
- 8:10You could say you're exhausted. You know, it didn't show.
- 8:13It really didn't. And 25 minutes is grueling.
- 8:16People don't even understand, you know, grappling for three
- 8:19minutes, right? You know, whatever is sparring,
- 8:20you know they don't understand. 25 minutes is an ungodly amount
- 8:24of time, right? Especially with the lights, her
- 8:26switching her stance to South Palm, everything going on.
- 8:29You see in blood for the first time, you didn't stop, right?
- 8:32Is that why still kind of you want this, you want it back?
- 8:35Of course I want it back. And, and it sucked because it
- 8:38wasn't something where I was going to lay down.
- 8:40It was like, you're literally going to have to pry this thing
- 8:42out of my cold, dead hands. Like that's the only way that
- 8:45you're going to get it done. And she did.
- 8:47So to her credit, she did great, you know, But that's why I
- 8:50fought so hard to get a trilogy fight because we're one and one.
- 8:53Like you don't play Rochambeau with somebody and after we were
- 8:56both one and one, you just walk away and say we're done.
- 8:58It's like, no, nobody does that. Like we're playing tic tac toe.
- 9:00You won one, I won one. We got to settle the score and
- 9:02you know, we got to see who's going to be the real winner.
- 9:05And so it was really heartbreaking for me to to get
- 9:08injured and to lose that trilogy fight because I felt like that
- 9:11was going to be the first biggest women's fight in combat
- 9:14sports. Now, you know, Alexa Grosso and
- 9:17Valentina stole my idea. Now they're going to be going
- 9:20for that at the Sphere. And I'm happy for them.
- 9:22I'm so excited for them, but I'm like, that was going to be my
- 9:25fight. And for her to retire
- 9:28prematurely, I feel was something that you know, is
- 9:32always going to be a big regret of mine that I, I never got a
- 9:35chance to settle the score do. You think she'll come out of
- 9:38retirement? I think so.
- 9:40I think so, yeah. I think she's not done yet.
- 9:43But I do know that she wouldn't come out of retirement for me.
- 9:46She would only come out of retirement for Kayla Harrison.
- 9:49I have heard from some close sources that she hates Kayla
- 9:54Harrison with a burning, fiery passion and that she does not
- 9:58feel those same sentiments towards me, and that she feels
- 10:03like she has absolutely nothing to prove to anybody in terms of
- 10:06fighting me again for the third time.
- 10:08That's. Insane.
- 10:09That's what I heard from, you know, very trusted source.
- 10:11And so it sucks because I'm just like.
- 10:15It'd be the biggest women's fight of all.
- 10:16Time, right, Right. I know exactly.
- 10:19It. Right, so I'm like, what?
- 10:21I'm surprised. Why don't you hate me?
- 10:23I thought I figured you'd hate. Me do do you think?
- 10:27And it might be part of the reason I'm just just here and
- 10:30everything you, you know, man who's a great champion.
- 10:33It was do you think it? And obviously, you know, you
- 10:36could see it sometimes when you face somebody, whatever, you
- 10:39know, obviously beat her and she came back and she obviously
- 10:43trained her ass off. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 10:44You were still standing there fighting.
- 10:46Yeah. She was like, it's almost a
- 10:47rocky thing. Yeah.
- 10:48You know, like Apollo, just like this guy is not going down, you
- 10:51know? Yeah.
- 10:51He's like, you don't want this guy.
- 10:53Yeah. He is not quitting it.
- 10:54Yeah, I think she saw that. Do you think is part of the
- 10:56reason why she's almost kind of saying I don't want to smoke?
- 11:00She knows there shouldn't be a a war.
- 11:02Yeah, it's going to be a long night in the office.
- 11:04She's got to have to work very hard for her money, you know,
- 11:06and it's something that she would much rather take the
- 11:09easier route, you know, and fight somebody on short notice
- 11:12that had no time to prep, prepare for her like Irene
- 11:16Aldana as opposed to to waiting for me and and, and doing that
- 11:20trilogy. It's going to be a long night in
- 11:22the office, and she knows that it's going to be extremely
- 11:24grueling and taxing. And, you know, I think that
- 11:27that's one of my advantages is that people don't ever think
- 11:30anything of me. They don't think that I punch
- 11:33hard or that I strike well or that I'm a threat in any sense
- 11:37of the word. And so I think that that is to
- 11:40my advantage of people thinking that I'm just some layup, layup,
- 11:43you know, and it couldn't be further from the truth.
- 11:45And I think that I surprise every fighter that I fight come
- 11:49Fight Night because they are like, wow, I was not expecting
- 11:51that. Absolutely.
- 11:53How do you program your mind to get in the headspace to ignore
- 11:58the naysayers you like, especially like when you're
- 12:01fighting Amanda and everybody's doubting you?
- 12:03How do you, how do you get in the mental state to just be
- 12:06like, F these people? Like I've got this, I'm not
- 12:09Drown out all the voices and program yourself to fight.
- 12:12You know, arguably at the time, one of the most dominant women
- 12:15ever in the sport. I think that it stemmed from the
- 12:17way that I grew up. You know, my dad would always be
- 12:20like, I don't care if the president of the United States
- 12:22walks through that front door. I'm still going to kick your
- 12:24ass. And the man gave no FS.
- 12:26He did not care about what this guy thought or Joe Blower, you
- 12:29know, he never cared. And he kind of has that
- 12:32mentality of like, he's going to walk out of the house looking
- 12:35like a clown because no one else is wearing this awesome fly
- 12:38thing and no one else is going to have this.
- 12:40And we'd all be like, embarrassed.
- 12:42And he just did not care. And so I think it's from my
- 12:45upbringing of my father, you know, always marching to the
- 12:49beat of his own drum and kind of instilling that in us.
- 12:53So these people are not going to be paying your bills, these
- 12:55people who don't give 2 flying FS about you.
- 12:57And at the end of the day, Dana White gave me some really
- 13:01important advice when I was letting that kind of stuff
- 13:04bother me. And he said, if I listened to
- 13:06everything that people said about me, I would have jumped
- 13:08out of the window a long time ago.
- 13:10And for me, that has always stuck with me because there is
- 13:14always going to be people like 11 to one odds, you know, where
- 13:17things people are going to think that you can't get something
- 13:20done. But that's kind of what makes it
- 13:22all the sweeter is when they are doubting you and you can prove
- 13:24them all wrong. And I think that that's kind of
- 13:26the the joy that I get, the little sinister joy that I get
- 13:30when I get my hand raised. I just want to be like back to
- 13:33DC and being like I told you. I mean, we're not going to
- 13:37change subjects, but I mean, it's almost the same thing as
- 13:38your, your your teammate. Yeah.
- 13:40You know. Yeah.
- 13:41Well, just one, you know, all the haters, everything else, You
- 13:44guys come from the same gym. Yep.
- 13:46Just dedication, motivation, You guys grind together, you know,
- 13:49all the practices. And then he raises, got his hand
- 13:52raised and it's kind of like, gotcha.
- 13:54Yeah. And also, I mean, and that's
- 13:55always a sweet victory. And it's nice to see that in
- 13:57your own gym as well. You know the same thing.
- 13:59Oh, yeah. And and also that's another
- 14:03force multiplier is knowing how hard you work and knowing how
- 14:06much Matt time you're putting in and how much blood, sweat,
- 14:09tears, sacrifice when you know how much work and dedication
- 14:13that you're putting into something.
- 14:14It doesn't matter who says what, you don't care.
- 14:17You know, I think that there's a little sense of delusion that
- 14:21you have to have. And I think that that little
- 14:24sense of delusion is what I've always had, clearly.
- 14:27And it's kind of what has helped me gain any amount of success
- 14:30that I've had is just this undetermined belief that I have
- 14:33in myself where it's like if I'm prepared and if I put in all
- 14:37this sweat, you could put the Hulk across the Octagon from me
- 14:40and I'm still going to mess him up, you know?
- 14:41And that's just the mentality that I have because I know what
- 14:44I've done to get there. Absolutely.
- 14:46When you started out in martial arts, it was at a cardio
- 14:49kickboxing, correct? When you were 19, right?
- 14:51Yes. OK, and yet you said at the time
- 14:53you didn't even know what MMA was, right?
- 14:55Yes. OK, so Fast forward all these
- 14:58years later when you're out on the grand stage in front of
- 15:0050,000 people, millions of people looking around the world
- 15:03watching you around the world, I should say, are you ever like
- 15:06wow, look how far I've came? You know, like how crazy is
- 15:09this? Do you ever like take you ever
- 15:10get or take it all and get nervous to like wow, like start
- 15:13out in cardio kickboxing now I'm like literally the best.
- 15:18I feel like I should take it in a little bit more and kind of
- 15:21like, reflect a little bit more and be proud.
- 15:24But I think that I have such high standards for myself as far
- 15:27as like what I want to do, where I want to go and what
- 15:30opportunities I want for myself to the point where I'm like,
- 15:33this is nothing. I have so much work still left
- 15:36to do. I'll be impressed when I get to
- 15:38the goals that I want to happen. But right now is not it.
- 15:41And right now is not the time to, you know, rest on my laurels
- 15:44and be like, well, you had to fight for a title shot at one
- 15:47time and, you know, you came from a card.
- 15:48He was like, no, no, I need to defend the title for a lot of
- 15:51times. There's so much work left to be
- 15:53done. But when you put it like that,
- 15:55yeah, I think that it's incredible.
- 15:58The fact that I threw my very first punch at 19 years old,
- 16:01official punch at 19 years old. And and that I have been able
- 16:05to, I don't want to say make a career out of fighting because
- 16:10I've just also been told that UFC fighting is not a career.
- 16:14It's an opportunity and I was like, wow, I wish you guys would
- 16:19have told me that a long time ago when I've been putting my
- 16:22body through the ringer for the last 10 years.
- 16:25Not to say that I could make a lot more money doing anything
- 16:27else other than, you know, fist fighting for a living.
- 16:31But you know, this career, you know, like a career, something
- 16:35where it's like you do it for X amount of time, you get a four O
- 16:381K, you get benefits, you know, you have all this stuff stacked
- 16:41up afterwards. It's like that's not the case
- 16:43here. It's like you better pay your
- 16:45taxes and hold on to every penny that you can because Uncle Sam
- 16:49is coming and you're going to have to hold on to that money
- 16:51for the rest of your life. And then when fighting is all
- 16:53said and done, you're probably going to have to segue into
- 16:55something else that you're passionate about.
- 16:57If you're lucky, you know, so fighting has been able to
- 17:01provide me this amazing life, but it's definitely something
- 17:07that I want to be able to segue into other things.
- 17:10And when I think about going back to that 19 year old girl
- 17:15versus where I'm at now, I absolutely do feel grateful for
- 17:19the opportunities that I've been given from the promotion and
- 17:23from just fighting this life that fighting has given to me.
- 17:26Because when I think about what am I going to do after fighting,
- 17:30it's a scary thought because I'm like, well, I've never thought
- 17:33about that before. I'm kind of just a fighter, and
- 17:38after fighting, it's like, who am I?
- 17:41Like, who are you? Your identity is completely tied
- 17:44to this fighter. And so I'm looking forward to
- 17:47being able to rediscovering myself and other passions after
- 17:51fighting. But right now it's like there's
- 17:53so much work that I still feel like I got to get done in order
- 17:56to be satisfied so that I can be like, you did it all, Gal.
- 18:01You know you did it. You did you.
- 18:04You made your 19 year old self proud.
- 18:06I should be proud now, and I am. But again, like I said, I have a
- 18:09lot of high standards for myself and still a lot of goals that I
- 18:12want to complete. When did you know you're like,
- 18:15all right, I'm going to do this professionally?
- 18:17Like at what point do you remember the moment you're like,
- 18:19I can make a living at this. Not only that, but I can fight
- 18:22in the biggest organizational world and I'm going to be
- 18:24champion. Like when was like click you're
- 18:25like this is what I'm doing. When I won The Ultimate Fighter,
- 18:28definitely, yeah. Because if you take it back to
- 18:31my beginning pro career I had recently, man, it was so
- 18:38unfortunate The Walking down the sidewalk in my hometown of
- 18:42Spokane, WA, I got ran over walking on the sidewalk by a
- 18:46drunk driver and I had had my nose smashed.
- 18:50And so I had maybe 2 1/2 months of recovery before the main
- 18:57event fell through in my coach's promotion.
- 19:00And he begged me basically to step in on short notice to fight
- 19:04this Canadian girl. And so I did.
- 19:08And I had blown through a few Canadians in my amateur and
- 19:13beginning pro career. So he was sold it really nice.
- 19:16Like, you steamroll Canadians, you're going to smoke this
- 19:18chick. And I was like, all right, so I,
- 19:22I take the fight and the day before the fight, I have to, I'm
- 19:24living with my parents because I'm being a know it all.
- 19:27I've moved out at 17 and lasted 16 months before I had to move
- 19:30right back in. So, you know, it's like you want
- 19:32to live with your parents. You better do your chores, you
- 19:34know, So I couldn't do anything, couldn't train anywhere, even
- 19:36though like mom, I'm the main event tomorrow.
- 19:38I was like, I don't care. Do the dishes, you know, so I'm
- 19:41like doing the dishes and I'm scraping up this apple crisp pan
- 19:45and the pie cutter to just like get this apple crisp off.
- 19:48And it just goes right into my wrist and it's just gushing
- 19:52blood everywhere. And they take me to the
- 19:54emergency room and they sew me up.
- 19:56And then the next night I'm fighting, I'm fighting this
- 19:58Canadian. And I got literally, of course
- 20:01I'm there and he has me there to sell the entire town I got.
- 20:05The kid I went to freaking elementary school with and all
- 20:07the kids I went to high school with and like, look at me, I'm
- 20:10the main event in this, you know, big fight.
- 20:13Every Tom, Dick and Harry that I've ever met in my entire life,
- 20:16all my coworkers, everyone was there and I'm in the crowd
- 20:21cornering my teammates. And then I and walking to the
- 20:25back and my one friend, he like grabbed me by the shoulders.
- 20:28Like you're so tense, you shouldn't be out here.
- 20:30Like go get in the back. Go get ready, you know?
- 20:32And so I'm like, oh, OK, yeah, you're right.
- 20:33I'm up next, you know. So I get arm barred, my get my
- 20:37arm completely broken in the second round.
- 20:39And when I go to the stool, the doctor comes in and I'm like,
- 20:45put it back in. Like, let's go.
- 20:47We're going round 3. And they're like, this fight's
- 20:49over, young lady, like you need to get out of here.
- 20:51And I was like, put it back in. And so the fight got called.
- 20:56She broke my arm in my hometown in front of all my family and
- 20:59friends. I was mortified.
- 21:01And at that point I was like, I quit.
- 21:03I quit. I just got hit by a car.
- 21:05I just got freaking embarrassed in front of my hometown.
- 21:08I'm done. And I sat on the couch and my
- 21:10coach said couple months later, not even he was like, you're
- 21:15fighting at 1:25 in Salt Lake City in two weeks.
- 21:18And I'm like, I'm like way too big to be fighting at 125 right
- 21:23now. Like if you would have given me
- 21:24ample time notice, but 2 1/2 weeks isn't impossible.
- 21:27I cut 23 lbs in that 2 1/2 weeks.
- 21:31I passed out in the sauna. He had to drag me out of there
- 21:34with his entire like body and my hands were like this.
- 21:38I couldn't even make a fist. I missed weight by 1 LB and they
- 21:42didn't give me the pound allowance.
- 21:43No IV, no nothing. And I remember I met this
- 21:46nutritionist where he's like, oh, you can eat his chicken
- 21:48breast and lemon water. And so like afterwards, like I'm
- 21:52literally eating like a bird. I should have been eating like
- 21:54spaghetti. I should have been like, screw
- 21:55you. I've never met you in my life.
- 21:56Get on my way, you know, But I was like, no, I have to listen
- 21:59to him. He's a nutritionist from
- 22:01California. He's worked with like some
- 22:02really high guys, you know, like, so I, I lost a hometown
- 22:06decision in Salt Lake City. And it was that point that I was
- 22:08like, I swear to my God, I quit. Like I don't even ask me to do
- 22:12anything again. Like I just had two losses in a
- 22:15row. I just got ran over by a car.
- 22:18I've had my arm broken. Like I am done.
- 22:21And like maybe less than a week or not a week, maybe a couple
- 22:25less than a month, I would say. My coach called me and said,
- 22:28Dana White's allowing women to fight in The Ultimate Fighter.
- 22:30And I bought your ticket and you're going to go try out.
- 22:33And I think it, it did not hit me until after I won the show
- 22:39that I could become a professional fighter and do this
- 22:42for, for a career. And it was only then that I was
- 22:46like, OK, I can do this. But prior to that, I didn't.
- 22:50I was ready to be done. Like I was 100% ready to quit
- 22:53and throw in the towel because I was like, I can't take much more
- 22:55of this. You know, I'm a very competitive
- 22:57person. And those two losses were death.
- 23:01Absolutely death to me. Did you know that your arm was
- 23:04broken? Did you tap in that fight or?
- 23:05No, I did not tap. No, no.
- 23:07Are you? I think I think the BMF title
- 23:10means. Would be a but.
- 23:11Yeah, yeah. Like just life in general.
- 23:12Yeah, yeah, my. Car, I'm cool.
- 23:14Yeah. Breaking my arm.
- 23:15Third round. Yeah, yeah.
- 23:17Stitches. Yeah.
- 23:18Because I don't they probably they didn't.
- 23:20They didn't know about the stitches.
- 23:21No, no. I'm.
- 23:22Saying because they would probably let you fight.
- 23:23No, they just like had. Your hands like kind of rap.
- 23:25Well, it was my coach's own promotion and it's on tribal
- 23:28land, so it's like they are the judge, jury, an executioner, you
- 23:33know what I mean? So of course they were gonna.
- 23:35I could have been like, I'm six months pregnant, like, she's
- 23:36good, you know? Did your arm break and the
- 23:41round? Ended.
- 23:43No, I was fighting. I was fighting with the broken
- 23:46arm. Yeah, I was fighting the whole
- 23:48time. And when we're on The Ultimate
- 23:49Fighter. So this is what makes the
- 23:51victory even sweeter in the long run.
- 23:53That girl ended up being on the show with me and we had to
- 23:56sleep, you know, from my bed to that chair away from each other.
- 24:00We were on the same team and, and, you know, we was like
- 24:03always sleeping with one eye open, you know, And I ended up
- 24:07submitting her in a guillotine to get to the semifinals.
- 24:10And it was so much better for me because she didn't make me tap,
- 24:14but I made her tap. And I remember on the show,
- 24:16they're like, So what happened when you fought this girl?
- 24:18And they're like, she was like, well, she wouldn't tap.
- 24:22And, you know, the judge or the doctor's the one that stopped
- 24:25it. Like she was like, but I elbowed
- 24:27her in the face a lot, you know? And, and then she says in her
- 24:31interview, she's like, I'm going to elbow her a couple of more
- 24:33times for this crap. And then I remember like just
- 24:36sinking in the guillotine and making her tap.
- 24:39And I'd be like, what was that you were saying?
- 24:42I'm just kidding. I Sarah Mraz is a cool chick.
- 24:44But definitely it was for me, something that I had to get done
- 24:48because I knew I could have beat her if I would have been given,
- 24:51you know, the right opportunity. But I just happened to get
- 24:55begged. And, you know, it was just all
- 24:58bad. I should have just said no, but
- 24:59I, I felt, you know, pigeonholed.
- 25:01And I'm a big people pleaser, you know what I mean?
- 25:03I can't tell somebody no. I don't want to hurt anyone's
- 25:05feelings. I don't want people to be mad,
- 25:06you know? So he was like, please, you
- 25:09know, be the main event. And I was like, no, I just got
- 25:12hit by a car. He's like, please.
- 25:13And I'm like, OK, you know, all he had to do is just butter me
- 25:16up a little bit. He just says, say you smoke
- 25:18Canadians. And I'm like, yeah, you're
- 25:20ready. I'm in.
- 25:22I'm in. On that show, that would Misha
- 25:28Tate and Ronda Rousey were involved with that, correct.
- 25:30OK. Was that inspiring being around
- 25:34them at all or did you what did you get a different perspective
- 25:39on them as fighters or was it any motivation or anything at
- 25:43that point? It was heartbreaking because I
- 25:47had joined Misha's camp for Katzingano during that time and
- 25:54I was her training partner and we had a spat.
- 25:57I think I was really upset with her boyfriend.
- 25:59I couldn't take it anymore. And so I left and I went to The
- 26:05Ultimate Fighter tryouts knowing that she had lost her fight
- 26:08against Katzingano and that she would not be the opposing coach.
- 26:11So the whole time I'm like giddy because I'm like, oh, I hope
- 26:15Rhonda picks me. I hope Rhonda picks me.
- 26:17You know, I just wanted Rhonda to pick me so bad.
- 26:20And when Misha walked in, I'm like, what, What's this girl
- 26:22doing here? And she's going to make it like
- 26:24was just a good season or something, you know what I mean?
- 26:27And they're like, Katzingano blew out her knee and Misha's
- 26:29you're no coach. I'm like, no, no, like Misha, I
- 26:33love you. But like I like don't even look
- 26:35at me like I want Rhonda to pick me on her team.
- 26:37You know, everybody wanted to be on Rhonda's team and I was like,
- 26:40Rhonda and me are best friends. She just doesn't know it yet.
- 26:43Like we are going to be like so tight.
- 26:46I was like imagining these things in my head.
- 26:49And then when Misha walked in, I'm like, it was a complete
- 26:52wrench just thrown in my plans because she picked me first.
- 26:55And of course I knew she was going to.
- 26:56I didn't know she was going to pick me first.
- 26:57I just had a hunch she was going to pick me first.
- 27:00And I just got so upset because I really wanted to be on
- 27:05Rhonda's team and so I instantly had a gigantic target on my
- 27:08back. And then because she picked me
- 27:10first, my own team was trying to sabotage me as well.
- 27:14And they were saying, well, you guys know each other from
- 27:17Washington and you guys have trained together before and your
- 27:19best friend, so she wants you to win.
- 27:21So after maybe like the third week, Misha quit talking to me.
- 27:25She quit helping me. She quit acknowledging me
- 27:28because she was getting a lot of pressure from the others saying
- 27:31that she was playing favorites with me.
- 27:33And so it was like I couldn't even talk to her.
- 27:35So I felt like I didn't even have a coach.
- 27:37So, you know, I was just there to do the work with like Master
- 27:39Tong and whoever would like give me the time of day.
- 27:42But for the most part, I just followed whatever I saw Chris
- 27:46holds worth doing the other boy on my team.
- 27:48And so if Chris jump rope for freaking 25 minutes, I just jump
- 27:52rope for 25 minutes. If he ran, I ran.
- 27:54If he swam, he'd get out of the pool and he would notice.
- 27:56But then I'd go sneak in the pool and I would do whatever he
- 27:58did. I just shadowed him because I
- 28:00didn't have anyone to to talk to.
- 28:02And so I think that it was really hard for me because I
- 28:07really wanted to be on Rhonda's team, but because I was on
- 28:10Misha's team, I felt even more ostracized because she wouldn't
- 28:15give me any acknowledgement because she didn't want to
- 28:18appear that she was playing favorites.
- 28:19So it just sucked, yeah. Do you think like later on she
- 28:23maybe was like, you guys had a little bit of falling out, a
- 28:25little beef? Yeah, I don't know if it.
- 28:26Was a falling out, whatever the case would be.
- 28:29Maybe she picked you to like, almost kind of sabotage you a
- 28:32little bit. No, no.
- 28:34Lo and behold, unbeknownst to me, my coach was supposed to be
- 28:38one of her coaches on the show. But because she didn't want to
- 28:42have my coach as another coach on the show because it would
- 28:45been a conflict of interest. Clearly he was basically
- 28:49threatening her, like, if you don't pick Juliana, like don't
- 28:53ever call me again. And so she I feel like she had
- 28:56to pick me because she didn't want to have the wrath of my
- 29:01coach on her back of, you know, like, I hate your guts, you
- 29:04know, So it was almost one of those things where I was like,
- 29:06she wasn't doing it for me. She was doing it to save her own
- 29:09tale because she didn't want to have to deal with my coach is,
- 29:12you know, drama, because she knew that he was already upset
- 29:16that he couldn't be a coach on the show, and he felt that it
- 29:18was her choice to put him, and she chose against him.
- 29:23So he was already very, very angry.
- 29:25So she was like, oh, I better choose Juliana, or else it's
- 29:28going to be over for me, you know?
- 29:30So it was not one thing. I was like, yeah, Juliana's my
- 29:33friend. I'm going to pick her.
- 29:33It was like, I have to. Yeah.
- 29:36Why did you really, really want Ronda Rousey to pick you?
- 29:39Like what was it about her that? I was enamored with her, like
- 29:43everybody. I was like, wow, six first round
- 29:47finishes or whatever. I don't even think she had six
- 29:49at the time, to be honest. I think she was just so
- 29:55effortless. It was almost like artful to
- 29:58watch her be able to throw people so easily and get these
- 30:01arm bars so suddenly. I loved her confidence and her
- 30:04charisma and I thought she was funny.
- 30:07And like I said, I still to this day think that we would have
- 30:10been really good friends. But she was just so nasty to me
- 30:14and oh, she was horrible and she was not a nice person at all.
- 30:20And so I think that that kind of changed my perspective on her
- 30:23quite a bit. But I stopped being enamored
- 30:26with her based off of the way that she treated me.
- 30:29Yeah, yeah, Like how you hear rumblings about Rhonda having an
- 30:34attitude even in the entertainment world outside of
- 30:37fighting, Was she just always like that or like what?
- 30:42What do you think her her whole deal was like why did she have
- 30:45that kind of attitude about towards people and fans?
- 30:49And there's a lot of rumblings about Rhonda.
- 30:51You know, you're you're an Olympian, you're world famous.
- 30:53You know, now she she was working movies, WWEUFC champion.
- 30:57She's got all these accolades. She's on top of the world, you
- 31:00know, why does she? I just feel like when you're in
- 31:03that position, you just be more cool to people, right?
- 31:05Like, what do you have to be right?
- 31:07You know, mean they're rude to people for, you know.
- 31:09One of the, I can't speak for why she is that way, but when I
- 31:15fought Shayna Basler, they had interviewed her and said, well,
- 31:20what do you think is going to happen in this fight with
- 31:23Shayna? And she goes, this other girl
- 31:25doesn't deserve to breathe the same air as her air as Shayna
- 31:28and she knows it. So what she's saying is, is that
- 31:30I don't deserve to breathe the same air as Shayna Basler.
- 31:33So I think that that's kind of her mindset where she has this
- 31:36hierarchy in her head that she's better than other people and
- 31:39they don't deserve to breathe the same air as her.
- 31:40Whereas I've never thought that I deserve to breathe the same
- 31:43air as a janitor, as a garbage man, as a bum on the street.
- 31:46We all deserve to breathe the same air, you know, And so I, I
- 31:50have a completely different mentality in, in terms of, you
- 31:54know, wanting everybody to be cool and, you know, we're all
- 31:57one. And then where she is, like, you
- 31:59know, if she had the opportunity, she'd be flying to
- 32:02Mars if the world was on fire and be like, see ya, you know
- 32:06what I mean? Like, I, I mean, I can't say
- 32:09that if I had millions and millions of dollars, I wouldn't
- 32:11maybe be in the same mindset. But I definitely think that it's
- 32:15the, the way that she grew up, you know, is very much like nose
- 32:20in the air. I'm better than you.
- 32:22And I think that that's kind of also what has given her star
- 32:27power, you know, where it's like these little peons, you know,
- 32:30like are these blue M&M's I said I won't rent.
- 32:34So I think that's kind of her, her mindset.
- 32:38But give me just one second. Let me feed him.
- 32:41So continuing on from where we were talking, I was very much
- 32:45like you. I was a big fan of Rhonda as
- 32:46well, especially when she burst on onto the the scene and she
- 32:50really made, you know, a reputation for herself and, you
- 32:53know, she just seemed really cool.
- 32:56It it wasn't until you hear the rumblings of how she really was
- 33:01to where you started to get a different vantage point of her
- 33:03right. With that being said, you know,
- 33:07she was a pioneer in MMA, in women's MMA in general.
- 33:11You know, obviously, you know, she brought judo, you know, to
- 33:15the spotlight with MMA. She, she proved that judo could
- 33:18be dominant in the world of mixed martial arts.
- 33:21But do you feel like she didn't evolve as a fighter over the
- 33:27years and just kind of relied on her grappling?
- 33:29Because obviously that got exposed when she fought Holly?
- 33:33Like you feel like she could have evolved more, maybe did a
- 33:36little bit more Muay Thai or kickboxing.
- 33:39Yeah, I would say that it kind of just shows again towards her
- 33:45attitude of, you know, this arrogance that she has in terms
- 33:48of getting knocked out and then getting knocked out a second
- 33:54time and never coming back. You know, she never came back.
- 33:57She never proved that you can fall off the horse and get back
- 34:01on the horse and ride again. And I think that that just kind
- 34:04of plays right into her, you know, bad attitude of just being
- 34:08this arrogant, you know, person who just feels, and I'm sure she
- 34:13does feel that she's just better than than everyone.
- 34:16She's just too good to have to prove anything or to come back
- 34:20because that's how amazing she is, yeah.
- 34:23Do you think that plays a a magnificent part in her downfall
- 34:28then as well? Because for example, you know,
- 34:30and I'm big on everyone just pausing my SO you never know
- 34:33what anyone's going through from high to low, you know what I'm
- 34:36saying? Everyone's all over the place.
- 34:39For example, you know, you lost a fight.
- 34:41You know, I didn't lose that fight.
- 34:42I lost by the judge's scorecard, but I wasn't dumb and I want to
- 34:46keep going, you know? Then some other people, not just
- 34:49her, they're always like, I had this going on.
- 34:51And then, you know, they were before the fight, best shape
- 34:53ever. They lose.
- 34:55It is what it is. We all lose some time.
- 34:57We got to keep up and keep going.
- 34:59You just keep going, you know? Do you think that played another
- 35:01part in her downfall as well? And we're not trying to be
- 35:03staying her, but just the mindset is completely different.
- 35:07Yeah, You know, I, again, like you said, you don't know what
- 35:11somebody is going through. I have gone through so many
- 35:15things that I try my best to not use as an excuse in terms of why
- 35:20I lost or why this happened or, you know, why is the sky blue?
- 35:25At the end of the day, nobody cares about your excuses.
- 35:27Everybody has a, you know, what do they call it?
- 35:29This world's smallest violin playing the saddest song just
- 35:32for you. You know, it's like nobody
- 35:34cares. They say you're only as good as
- 35:36your last fight, you know, So get back on the horse and ride
- 35:38again. Show people what it means to
- 35:40have grit. Show people what it means to
- 35:42have determination or resilience or the ability to bounce back
- 35:45from something and just to see her never come back again.
- 35:49In my mind, I'm just like, you're a quitter, you know what
- 35:52I mean? Which also makes me think that
- 35:54you're strong bravado is actually weak mentality.
- 35:58And so I think you know, for whatever reason, only she knows
- 36:02you know what the real reason is.
- 36:03And like I said, you made your millions wouldn't have to
- 36:07wouldn't want to fight anyways if I if I had that kind of
- 36:10money. But with that being said, it's
- 36:12just kind of disappointing, I think from a martial artist
- 36:15perspective of not being able to go back into the fire and just
- 36:20to, you know, hang it up off off A2 losses.
- 36:23Like, if the fact would have happened with me, with, you
- 36:26know, the losing in my hometown and then getting that, you know,
- 36:29hometown decision in Salt Lake after cutting all that weight, I
- 36:33probably wouldn't be here, you know, But that never die, that
- 36:38never quitting mentality has always been innate in me.
- 36:41And so it's not something that, you know, you have to look very
- 36:44hard to find in me. It's just who I am.
- 36:46Whereas other people, it's like they're looking for a way out.
- 36:49And she was looking for it and she found it, and that's that.
- 36:53And I think that's very important for a lot of people to
- 36:55hear because a lot of people, you know, everybody that we've
- 36:58talked to in a podcast, see they come through struggle.
- 37:01They become world renowned chefs, fighters, all walks of
- 37:05life, you know, change their life for the better.
- 37:08And it just is a great testament to see someone like yourself
- 37:11and, you know, all the people, especially now talking to you.
- 37:14So people can see that, you know, you've come through ups
- 37:17and downs and you continue to fight.
- 37:18And a lot of a lot of people now struggle with a lot of mental
- 37:21health. And there's so much going on.
- 37:23And it's just people very inspiring.
- 37:24You know, unfortunately, you have other people, you know,
- 37:27Rhonda kind of went down that hole and there's a lot of people
- 37:30looking up there, looking at her at the time, you know, and then
- 37:32now there's some like you and you're saying, no, you know, it
- 37:35happens, but I'm going to keep going.
- 37:37I'm going to show. And it's a testament to you.
- 37:39And a lot of people obviously look at you as a very
- 37:42inspirational person. And it's great to see that
- 37:45still, like you didn't let anything stop you.
- 37:46Those two fights don't even know who.
- 37:48No one wouldn't know who you were if you did give up at that
- 37:50point, right? So it's another great story for
- 37:52people to listen to and keep pushing forward no matter how
- 37:54down they are pushed it back up. Right.
- 37:57Thank you. I appreciate that.
- 37:58And I definitely think that it's easy to quit.
- 38:03It's the easiest thing that you can do, you know.
- 38:06But I know for a fact from my own mindset that I wouldn't feel
- 38:10good about myself knowing that I didn't go through those hard
- 38:13times. Because if I know that it's
- 38:15hard, then I know that I have to do it.
- 38:17And if I'm scared, then I know for sure I have to do it because
- 38:21you have to be brave. And I think that, you know,
- 38:24maybe that's not something that you can teach people.
- 38:27Maybe they can just be inspired by that and that's OK.
- 38:29Not everybody has to be a fighter.
- 38:31I just know in my own mentality of like, what I'm going to
- 38:34accept and what I'm not going to accept, I'm very hard critic on
- 38:37myself. And I think that I feel bad for
- 38:41my daughter in a sense because it's just like, I don't want to
- 38:43hear the crying. I don't want to hear the
- 38:45excuses. Oh, dude, yeah, Wham poor as me.
- 38:48What was me? You know, I get up, you know,
- 38:50and I kind of am raising her to be this kind of like, I don't
- 38:54want to say fighter, but just I don't want to even say tough,
- 38:58but I just want her to be a good person.
- 39:00And I feel like if I had somebody, you know, coddling me
- 39:03like a baby all my life, I definitely wouldn't be in this
- 39:05position that I'm in right now. Was there anybody that you
- 39:08really had just strong disdain for that you fought?
- 39:11You're like, I really do not like her.
- 39:13You know, I mean, you guys are all professionals, but was there
- 39:15anybody like any, any time in your career where it was more
- 39:19than just like, we're professional athletes competing?
- 39:22Was there anybody like, I really do not like that person.
- 39:26Somebody just really pissed you off to the point where maybe you
- 39:30didn't have hatred towards them, but they just really irked you.
- 39:33No, no, not anybody that I've fought.
- 39:36But there was the one girl that I haven't fought yet, Myra Buena
- 39:40Silva, and she kind of irritated me, you know, because like, I've
- 39:45never fought her and she wants to fight me.
- 39:47So she just like can't keep my name out of her mouth.
- 39:50It's like literally she can't do an interview without saying
- 39:53something bad about me. It's like, I've never met you.
- 39:55We don't have a fight. We never had a fight schedule.
- 39:57But it's just like her constant berating of like saying things
- 40:01about me. It's just more so annoying more
- 40:03than anything. And then I wouldn't even
- 40:04classify it as annoying. I I actually get quite a laugh
- 40:07out of it. But I would say like, yeah,
- 40:10that's definitely one where I'm just like, I don't like you.
- 40:13What's? Your What's your name?
- 40:14Myra Buena Silva. Yeah, I'm well aware of that.
- 40:17Yeah. Yeah, she got in trouble
- 40:20recently, right? Yes, yeah, she was like the one
- 40:23taking the Adderall on the Fight Night.
- 40:25Yeah, it's funny. So I want to bring this up,
- 40:28which is great because you had to tweet about this, which I was
- 40:31dying laughing. You know, you said cheetah.
- 40:33Live it up to your nickname. Back to being a curtain jerk.
- 40:36You know the apex card, you go, you fought 4241 year olds this
- 40:40year and you you had to cheat in order to get it done.
- 40:43Can't pass a drug test. Here's my favorite part.
- 40:48Keep my name out of your mouth, you dumb broad.
- 40:54Yeah, keep my name out of your mouth, you dumb broad.
- 40:57Yeah, I know. I was like the part of that I'm
- 41:00like, hmm, did I write that? It doesn't sound like the dumb
- 41:02broad prior. Yeah, that was for sure, man.
- 41:04It was. Awesome.
- 41:05I really was dying, you know? Yeah, yeah.
- 41:07Like, like, don't talk to me about anything.
- 41:10You can't even pass a drug test. Like, seriously, keep my name
- 41:13out of your mouth, you dumb broad.
- 41:15Yeah, yeah, she is a dumb broad. Like what is she saying?
- 41:17Like when she's bringing you up in an interview, does she just
- 41:19completely divert to you? Or is it does she find a way to
- 41:22finagle your name or like how does what does she say?
- 41:25What does she say? I know what she's doing.
- 41:27I know exactly what she's doing. She sees the fact that I got to
- 41:33fight for a title because I am saying Amanda's name and
- 41:37creating so much buzz against Amanda that that's how I got
- 41:42into title contention and how I was able to fight for a title.
- 41:45So she's trying to follow that blueprint of if I speak your
- 41:49name so much and say your name in the media, eventually I'll
- 41:53get the fight so that I can fight for the title.
- 41:56Her approach is different than mine in the sense that
- 42:00everything that I was saying about Amanda, not only was it
- 42:04true, but they were factual things that have happened in my
- 42:06career and me being in this sport since 2013 when Dana
- 42:09allowed women. So it's like I've put in my
- 42:11time, I've gotten these wins, I've done all of these things.
- 42:15It's not like I was just making up things when I was saying
- 42:17stuff about Amanda. Everything that I was saying was
- 42:19an actual fact that has happened to me in the course of my
- 42:23career. Where she was, she was just
- 42:26throwing crap at the wall and seeing what sticks.
- 42:28It's just like she has no leg to stand on.
- 42:30Mine is actually merited with facts and evidence behind it.
- 42:33And everything that she was saying was just her just
- 42:36talking, just to talk because she thinks that that's what I
- 42:38was doing. But she doesn't take into
- 42:40consideration that what I was saying were actual things that
- 42:43have happened, whereas the things that she was saying was
- 42:46just made-up, you know? And so she was just trying to
- 42:50get a title shot and say anything that she can to get a
- 42:52title shot at whatever cost that that came at.
- 42:55And she got it. And then she sat there on the
- 43:00Octagon floor, holder in her head, like she was tanning in
- 43:03Miami. And then?
- 43:05I I'm just sitting there watching it.
- 43:06Like what have we watching? Like this is like, you talked
- 43:09all that smack and you said at this and that whoop, whoop,
- 43:12whoop. You ran your mouth to the cows
- 43:13come home and this is what you're doing with your
- 43:16opportunity. Like I couldn't believe it.
- 43:19It was just so weird. Yeah, I think it was Ariel Huani
- 43:24that said this, but they were he he, I don't know if he directly
- 43:27said or he insinuated that you were like the most hated person.
- 43:31And I'm thinking to myself how like every interview, like
- 43:34you're so cool. Like we're talking to you right
- 43:36now. You're super chilling for people
- 43:37that don't know. Julian invited us to her home.
- 43:40That's where we're doing this interview right now.
- 43:41And she's about to fight for a title in October, which that
- 43:44that's how cool she is, just so you guys know.
- 43:46So it's like it's I'm, I'm thinking I I, you know, we see
- 43:49your interviews, you know, see you talk to people.
- 43:51Obviously you're an amazing fighter.
- 43:53And I'm like what? What is there to dislike about
- 43:55Like how like what do you that I don't get that like?
- 43:57So what I mean by that is that all the girls in the division,
- 44:00and I can't even fault Myra, Buena Silva, it's all of them,
- 44:03they're always saying my name. I again have this target on my
- 44:07back where they all want a gun for me because they don't think
- 44:10that I am anything. I mean, I got girls in the other
- 44:12divisions that are calling me out, like Macy Barber and stuff.
- 44:15Like anybody that sees me fight, they say, oh, I could do that
- 44:18all right, That's easy. She's easy.
- 44:20She's a layup. She sucks until they actually
- 44:22get in there with me and they realize that it's not this walk
- 44:25in the park that they thought. And so I think that they see me
- 44:29in title contention, they see me with the title, and they think
- 44:33that they can beat me. So they're gonna do everything
- 44:36that they can to say my name so that they can get a title shot.
- 44:39And so it makes sense. That's why I say I'm the most
- 44:41hated because all of these girls, whenever they talk about
- 44:44anybody in the media, it's always me.
- 44:46It's always me, It's always me, you know?
- 44:48And so it's like, it's a compliment.
- 44:50It's a compliment. I was just saying, does it drive
- 44:52you harder? Because having that bullseye on
- 44:54your back means they, you're the shit.
- 44:57Yeah, you know what I'm saying? Like, they, they, they want what
- 44:59you have. So it's like, maybe it does that
- 45:01make you just like push drive harder because like, you know,
- 45:03you're not going to get this, you know, you don't want to
- 45:05smoke, but you want to keep trying me.
- 45:07But I'm going to keep better and better and better.
- 45:08And that you're not, you're not be able to touch me.
- 45:10I think maybe mentally that's the way I feel, but definitely
- 45:12not in terms of training because not only am I not, you know,
- 45:16some spring chicken no more. I have had several injuries that
- 45:21have kept me away from the sport.
- 45:22I would like to do way more, but it's the injuries that have kept
- 45:25me away from the sport for a long time.
- 45:27All the time, it's always that, yeah, I'm pregnant, I heard
- 45:30this, I broke this, I broke that.
- 45:31And so it's like, yeah, it's definitely motivating in the
- 45:34sense that they're going to find out once they get punched in the
- 45:37mouth. But I can't let that be like
- 45:39this driving factor that zips me out of bed because I'm going to
- 45:42break a hip, you know? So it's like, I can't go crazy
- 45:45like that in the gym that I like.
- 45:46I want to, but it's definitely something that keeps me
- 45:49motivated during the. Camp, right?
- 45:51And then another thing that plays a big part, I feel like in
- 45:54the in the MMA community or world is obviously trash talk.
- 45:58Trash talk is views. Views get this, then you know,
- 46:01it kind of bump up spaces. Sometimes the rakings don't even
- 46:03matter. People are jumping for no
- 46:05reason, right? And then there's a lot of fake,
- 46:08like, people aren't good at it sometimes.
- 46:09Yeah. I feel like you're really good
- 46:10at it. You know, if you're going to
- 46:12send some on the back, you send it really good, you know?
- 46:14So I mean, there's also that power.
- 46:16People are kind of talking garbage.
- 46:17Is like this not even a good joke.
- 46:18Yeah. You know, you just sounds awful,
- 46:20you know? And here's another quote.
- 46:22And I wanted to say you said this on.
- 46:26These things just make me laugh. I can't wait to hear this one.
- 46:29You said heels like us cannot worry about feelings of peasants
- 46:37and I know that you don't mean that in any disrespect.
- 46:39It's just like you, like you're talking to them, you know, And
- 46:41it's. I didn't.
- 46:42I don't even think I wrote that. I think my buddy probably made
- 46:46me send that. Yeah, You know, I think that
- 46:51again, I am hated because my actual real life situations that
- 46:57have happened in my career, I'll call it out and then somebody
- 47:00thinks it's disrespectful because it's like, how could you
- 47:03say that about Amanda? She's the best ever.
- 47:05And then like I go when I win. And then it's like, that's why,
- 47:08you know, so when I talk trash, I feel like it's not me talking
- 47:12trash. I'm just saying things that have
- 47:14actually happened in my life and in my career, and you just don't
- 47:17like it. And then that gets viewed as
- 47:20trash talk, but I also maybe kind of spin it in a jokey way
- 47:25that it can come across like cringy or that they don't like
- 47:28it. You know, so I get it.
- 47:30But you know, those are the times where I'm making
- 47:32pay-per-view points and I'm trying to get people interested
- 47:35in my fight so that they buy the fight.
- 47:37I ain't getting pay-per-view points this time.
- 47:39I am getting paid the same no matter what.
- 47:41So I don't have anything to say about anybody or like, come
- 47:44Fight Night, we're going to fight and that's it.
- 47:46You know, I, I said to myself, I'm not going to go crazy and be
- 47:52a a jerk because I don't have to, even though the jerk kind of
- 47:55just comes across naturally. I don't have to like turn it up
- 47:58extra, but I definitely don't have to turn it up extra because
- 48:01I'm not getting the pay-per-view points.
- 48:02So I really don't care. Watch it, don't watch it.
- 48:07Whether you're invested in my success or my failures, it
- 48:10doesn't matter. I get paid the same.
