- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to the Complete Matchup Guide. TJ Pittenger,
- 0:04Speaker 1: Graham Coffey with you guys. We are presented by PrizePix.
- 0:06Speaker 1: We'll talk more about them later. But, Graham, let's jump
- 0:10Speaker 1: into this. First up this week, an absolute must-win game
- 0:15Speaker 1: for Texas. They are 0-2 in their last two. Both
- 0:18Speaker 1: those teams unranked, and they will take on an Ole
- 0:21Speaker 1: Miss team that is ranked in the top ten. Although
- 0:24Speaker 1: I don't really know what that means in college football anymore,
- 0:26Speaker 1: but just an absolute must win for the Longhorns and
- 0:32Speaker 1: a big one for the rebels too, who, who have
- 0:33Speaker 1: Georgia later, who have some tough games. Like this is
- 0:36Speaker 1: a big one for both sides, but certainly you'd have
- 0:38Speaker 1: to think it's bigger for Texas.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, you know, everything is bigger in Texas TJ.
- 0:43Speaker 1: So If I had a rim shot, I'd, I'd hit
- 0:45Speaker 1: it right now, but let's go.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I do think that this game is more important for
- 0:55Speaker 2: Texas in the sense of like, I don't think there's
- 0:58Speaker 2: a 0% chance of SART getting fired. If he loses
- 1:01Speaker 2: this game, like I think there's a, there's, there's a
- 1:03Speaker 2: greater than 0% chance that the Texas might just pull
- 1:06Speaker 2: the plug on the whole operation. If this went the
- 1:09Speaker 2: wrong way, I do also think that Texas is probably
- 1:12Speaker 2: the most likely nine and three team, that could make
- 1:14Speaker 2: the playoff because of that Ohio State win. But this
- 1:17Speaker 2: is an important game. You lose three games in a
- 1:20Speaker 2: row with all that's invested in this roster, and it's
- 1:24Speaker 2: going to get very ugly. And to your point, I mean,
- 1:27Speaker 2: it does feel very large for Ole Miss as well.
- 1:30Speaker 2: I don't want to call it a playoff eliminator game
- 1:33Speaker 2: because both these teams are talented enough to go win
- 1:38Speaker 2: the rest of them, even if they do lose this game.
- 1:40Speaker 2: But it does kind of have that feeling a little
- 1:43Speaker 2: bit I'm very excited for it.
- 1:46Speaker 1: We have seen arch struggle. We have seen play calling
- 1:52Speaker 1: seem like it's not all the way there. The one
- 1:54Speaker 1: thing you felt like you could count on was Texas's defense.
- 1:57Speaker 1: And again, I know week to week in the sec
- 2:02Speaker 1: and really in college football teams are very up and down,
- 2:05Speaker 1: but the one thing you thought you could count on
- 2:06Speaker 1: was their defense. And Florida certainly did enough on Saturday
- 2:10Speaker 1: to go get the win. Now, if Texas offense would have,
- 2:13Speaker 1: kept going. Maybe that wouldn't have been enough, but they didn't,
- 2:16Speaker 1: unfortunately for them. And I, I wonder again, the, the
- 2:21Speaker 1: matchup with Trinidad in this defense, sans Colin Simmons, right. Is,
- 2:26Speaker 1: is a pretty big, it'll be a pretty big indicator. Can, can,
- 2:30Speaker 1: I mean, Jaden bought nearly hit a hundred yards, obviously
- 2:32Speaker 1: as a team, they went over. That's something that Texas
- 2:35Speaker 1: had not been allowing teams to do. They completely shut
- 2:37Speaker 1: down Deshaun Bishop in Neyland. They had been good against
- 2:41Speaker 1: the run. I'm interested to see what Ole Miss's running
- 2:45Speaker 1: game looks like and certainly what Trinidad looks like against
- 2:47Speaker 1: this secondary.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I do think Texas's defense has been
- 2:52Speaker 2: really good. Like I, I think that it's unreasonable when
- 2:57Speaker 2: we'll must have signed up for this job. I would
- 2:59Speaker 2: imagine that the, the pitch and the conversation and the
- 3:02Speaker 2: thought in his head was, you know, I, if I
- 3:05Speaker 2: can produce a, a very good to great defense, I'm
- 3:09Speaker 2: going to be opposite of a very good to great offense. And,
- 3:12Speaker 2: we'll compliment each other well. And right now it feels
- 3:15Speaker 2: like if Texas's defense gives up 20 points in a game,
- 3:18Speaker 2: then they're going to lose. And that's a lot more
- 3:22Speaker 2: pressure than I think any of us expected Texas's defense
- 3:25Speaker 2: to have. I look at the, the matchup, you know,
- 3:29Speaker 2: where's the bash rush come from without Colin Simmons, right?
- 3:32Speaker 2: Like who, who steps up for Texas? Is it justice
- 3:36Speaker 2: Terry and some of these guys that, have the pedigree
- 3:39Speaker 2: from a recruiting standpoint? Are you going to see perhaps
- 3:43Speaker 2: maybe them get some more pressure from the linebacker position,
- 3:49Speaker 2: the inside linebacker position? But Kanu is solid in the
- 3:54Speaker 2: interior in terms of doing the grunt work and occupying
- 3:57Speaker 2: double teams, but that's not enough, in my opinion, in
- 4:01Speaker 2: this game. And I think if you're Texas, you've got
- 4:03Speaker 2: to be a little bit concerned about not just coming
- 4:06Speaker 2: to this game without Colin Simmons, but to come into
- 4:07Speaker 2: this game without Colin Simmons, considering how well Ole Miss
- 4:10Speaker 2: played against a Missouri team that does have good edge
- 4:14Speaker 2: rushers and had gotten pressure against a lot of teams
- 4:17Speaker 2: and really struggled to disrupt Ole Miss at all.
- 4:21Speaker 1: On the Ole Miss side, I'll tell you, I called
- 4:24Speaker 1: some road upsets last week and Calandria let me down,
- 4:29Speaker 1: but Austin Simmons in Missouri really let me down too. Um, I,
- 4:32Speaker 1: I did get the, uh, I did get the road upset.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I did not pick Auburn. Um, but I, I did pick, uh, man,
- 4:40Speaker 1: what was the other, there was another road upset that
- 4:43Speaker 1: I really, Oh, Kentucky. I liked Kentucky a lot. Um,
- 4:46Speaker 1: and so they, they found a way material found a
- 4:48Speaker 1: way to give them that game. So Ole miss man,
- 4:51Speaker 1: I'll tell you the, we've seen the circle of suck
- 4:54Speaker 1: in the sec where everybody beats everybody. It's up to
- 4:57Speaker 1: 11 congruent teams now. Um, but, Ole Miss was incredibly impressive.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Shutting down Missouri's running game, limiting their head rushers that
- 5:08Speaker 1: you talked about. They were really impressive. Were they the most?
- 5:14Speaker 1: I mean, what Florida did on the road at Texas,
- 5:16Speaker 1: what Auburn did was impressive. Tennessee's defense looked really good
- 5:19Speaker 1: from start to finish. I thought Ole Miss might have
- 5:21Speaker 1: been the most impressive team in the SEC this weekend.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I'll get right back to the clip in just a moment,
- 5:27Speaker 1: but first I want to give you a couple of picks. Now,
- 5:28Speaker 1: if you want to get all the picks, you've got
- 5:30Speaker 1: to go watch the live show. the prize picks app,
- 5:32Speaker 1: all new users there play $ 5, get 150 in lineups instantly.
- 5:37Speaker 1: If you use code HMA and win your first $ 5 lineup,
- 5:41Speaker 1: give me the more on Trinidad's passing yards at 243.5,
- 5:45Speaker 1: just one yard away from that 244.5. Give me the
- 5:49Speaker 1: less on Arch Manning. Now I actually like Texas to
- 5:52Speaker 1: win this game, but I'm going to take the reverse
- 5:55Speaker 1: of what many people might think on the passing totals.
- 5:58Speaker 1: We also picked Arches passing touchdowns. We took Kiwan Lacey.
- 6:02Speaker 1: We took Trinidad's passing touchdowns, but I'm not telling you
- 6:04Speaker 1: what those picks are. You got to go watch the
- 6:05Speaker 1: live show to check it out. That's on college football addiction.
- 6:08Speaker 1: We appreciate you for watching. Make sure you're on the
- 6:10Speaker 1: prize picks app. Again, that code is HMA and we'll
- 6:13Speaker 1: see you guys real soon.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I mean, I think you could make the argument. They
- 6:16Speaker 2: might've been the most, you know, impressive team in college
- 6:19Speaker 2: football last weekend on certain respects. Yeah. Like what, what
- 6:25Speaker 2: they got from a, Pass rush standpoint, right, was– like,
- 6:33Speaker 2: I like what they're doing pass rush-wise. You look at
- 6:36Speaker 2: that game against Missouri. They didn't have an overwhelming amount
- 6:39Speaker 2: of pressures. It's not like they had 30 pressures or
- 6:41Speaker 2: anything like that, but they got pressure from nine different
- 6:44Speaker 2: players on their defense. And when you're doing that, I
- 6:48Speaker 2: think it makes it really hard for an offense to know,
- 6:51Speaker 2: you know, hey, if we chip this guy with a
- 6:53Speaker 2: tight end or a running back, then we're going to
- 6:54Speaker 2: have time to throw. And you saw– Missouri I think
- 6:57Speaker 2: really sort of break down Simmons you know had some
- 7:01Speaker 2: high volume plays 339 yards but it took 44 pass
- 7:05Speaker 2: attempts to get there and no touchdowns obviously they only
- 7:09Speaker 2: scored three points so if you're telling me like Ole
- 7:12Speaker 2: Miss is going to find these types of defensive performances
- 7:16Speaker 2: where they can give up a bunch of yards but
- 7:19Speaker 2: not break then this is a team that I would
- 7:23Speaker 2: say not just can make the college football playoff, but
- 7:25Speaker 2: probably go win games in the college football playoff. I
- 7:27Speaker 2: think they're very, very well equipped. And you could also,
- 7:31Speaker 2: I think, make a bit of an argument of like, well,
- 7:33Speaker 2: this is probably what Ole Miss maybe was going to be.
- 7:37Speaker 2: You had Lacey get hurt. They were able to win
- 7:40Speaker 2: that LSU game with very little from him. They were
- 7:42Speaker 2: able to beat Louisville with him out in the second half.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Now you have him back. There is an ability, I think,
- 7:48Speaker 2: for this offense now to, to have a little bit
- 7:52Speaker 2: of like ball control and possession. And you saw that
- 7:55Speaker 2: show up in that game against Missouri, in my opinion,
- 7:59Speaker 2: like the way that he was able to sort of
- 8:01Speaker 2: pace them. And then also Frazier is playing great for
- 8:03Speaker 2: those guys. I mean, he had five missed tackles force
- 8:06Speaker 2: last week, 101 yards on 15 carries. Like, like they
- 8:10Speaker 2: look like they've got a one, two duo and that
- 8:13Speaker 2: maybe sort of be the, the, blessing in disguise of,
- 8:17Speaker 2: of Lacey being out earlier in the season, was it
- 8:19Speaker 2: to give an opportunity for someone else to emerge? I, again, the,
- 8:25Speaker 2: the week was so chaotic across the sport and in
- 8:28Speaker 2: the conference that somebody asked me earlier this week, who
- 8:31Speaker 2: I trust.
- 8:32Speaker 3: The most in the sec right now.
- 8:34Speaker 1: And I said, well, I just think the answer is
- 8:37Speaker 1: Georgia still, despite the Auburn loss, but It might be
- 8:41Speaker 1: Ole Miss. Like it's one of the, I get like
- 8:44Speaker 1: based on the, the, the recent performance that we just saw,
- 8:48Speaker 1: it might be Ole Miss. Now Ole Miss can go
- 8:50Speaker 1: on the road to Texas and lose by 28 because
- 8:52Speaker 1: that's the way the SEC works. And I certainly don't
- 8:55Speaker 1: think they will, but that's the way the conference works.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And then I'll change my answer to somebody else. But
- 9:01Speaker 1: I really do have high regards for Ole Miss. Like,
- 9:04Speaker 1: maybe they've just avoided that wheel of death that the
- 9:06Speaker 1: SEC is putting out to a different team every week.
- 9:09Speaker 1: They got it early with Florida, and maybe they avoid
- 9:12Speaker 1: it for the rest of the way. But, yeah, it's
- 9:16Speaker 1: a team that I have a lot of faith in.
- 9:17Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on this game when it comes to, man,
- 9:21Speaker 1: a struggling arch, an offense that seems to be rolling
- 9:25Speaker 1: but certainly has to play a different kind.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Of defense this week for Ole Miss?
- 9:29Speaker 2: Just.
- 9:30Speaker 1: what, what, what about Sark, you know, uh, outside of
- 9:33Speaker 1: maybe just how snappy he is and some press conference stuff.
- 9:36Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on the actual matchup that'll take place?
- 9:39Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I, I look at these two teams. Uh,
- 9:43Speaker 2: I think that the Ole Miss offense versus the Texas
- 9:45Speaker 2: defense is, is just, that's really good. Must see TV
- 9:49Speaker 2: kind of stuff. That's the type of things that people
- 9:51Speaker 2: like you and I, you know, think about in March
- 9:55Speaker 2: and April and may when college football season feels far
- 9:58Speaker 2: away is.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Like when we're pretending to like basketball.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, exactly. But you, you look at Ole Miss's offense.
- 10:10Speaker 2: They're not as explosive as they were last year in
- 10:15Speaker 2: a lot of ways, right? Like they're, they've, they've been
- 10:17Speaker 2: more methodical. I, My concern for them in this game
- 10:21Speaker 2: a little bit is that they have been a team
- 10:22Speaker 2: that's lived in a lot of third and long situations.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Their average third down distance is seven yards, which is
- 10:30Speaker 2: 69th in FBS. And Texas has been a team that's
- 10:33Speaker 2: been really good at forcing third and long situations. They're
- 10:36Speaker 2: 13th in average third down distance face as a defense.
- 10:39Speaker 2: So this game probably comes down to third and longs.
- 10:45Speaker 2: which is not really where you want to live if
- 10:46Speaker 2: you're Ole Miss. I trust Texas probably to still be
- 10:49Speaker 2: able to manage the Ole Miss run game. I'm not
- 10:53Speaker 2: saying they're going to stuff them or anything like that,
- 10:55Speaker 2: but you look at sort of the stuff percentages of
- 10:59Speaker 2: the Texas run defense, it's been pretty high. Ole Miss,
- 11:03Speaker 2: not bad, not great, but I think that this probably
- 11:06Speaker 2: comes down to Trinidad trying to make plays in third
- 11:10Speaker 2: and long and sort of can they string enough of
- 11:13Speaker 2: those together to have some longer drives, and can the
- 11:17Speaker 2: run game not pop off at seven yards a carry
- 11:21Speaker 2: or anything like that, but just get them to second
- 11:23Speaker 2: and seven. And if they can do that, then I
- 11:26Speaker 2: think you really probably have to kind of favor Ole
- 11:29Speaker 2: Miss' offense in this game a little bit because of
- 11:35Speaker 2: the experience Trinidad, but really that Colin Simmons injury does
- 11:39Speaker 2: loom very large. So I like Ole Miss' offense's ability
- 11:43Speaker 2: to probably– score into the mid to high twenties in
- 11:46Speaker 2: this football game. And then I like Texas's, I mean
- 11:50Speaker 2: like the Texas offense, man, you know, these radar charts
- 11:54Speaker 2: and things that I look at, like their radar chart is,
- 11:56Speaker 2: it's very small right now. It is very small. Like
- 11:59Speaker 2: they don't, if I'm, if I'm trying to sit here
- 12:01Speaker 2: and say, what do they do? Well, they hit a
- 12:03Speaker 2: big pass play or two a game. Yeah. And that's
- 12:07Speaker 2: about it. And they have done a decent job actually
- 12:10Speaker 2: of like cashing in, they don't create a lot of
- 12:13Speaker 2: scoring opportunities in terms of trips inside the opponent 40,
- 12:16Speaker 2: but they've done a pretty okay job of like when
- 12:19Speaker 2: they do getting some points out of those. But man,
- 12:22Speaker 2: I mean, if Texas can't run the football in this game,
- 12:26Speaker 2: I think they're in a world of trouble because I
- 12:28Speaker 2: look at what Ole Miss just did to a Missouri
- 12:31Speaker 2: run game that has not lit the world on fire,
- 12:34Speaker 2: but like hasn't been bad. And they held them to 2.1
- 12:38Speaker 2: yards a carry on 24 attempts. I know that They
- 12:41Speaker 2: kind of game-scripted the run out of things for Missouri. But, like,
- 12:46Speaker 2: do I trust Sark, who has abandoned the run his
- 12:49Speaker 2: entire career as an offensive play caller when down by
- 12:53Speaker 2: two-plus possessions, except for that Ohio State game, really? He
- 12:57Speaker 2: did a good job of sticking on the run in
- 12:58Speaker 2: that game. Do I trust him if Texas gets down
- 13:03Speaker 2: to keep going to the well on a run game
- 13:05Speaker 2: that really has not produced much lately? I'm not sure
- 13:08Speaker 2: that I do. And yet, despite all of that, I
- 13:12Speaker 2: just kind of sort of have a vibe a little
- 13:15Speaker 2: bit that Texas is going to pull together and maybe
- 13:19Speaker 2: have a bit of a foxhole mentality in this game
- 13:21Speaker 2: and come out and do what they need to do
- 13:24Speaker 2: because there's just maybe too much talent and too much
- 13:28Speaker 2: invested in this for them to not rally together and
- 13:32Speaker 2: keep this season alive a little bit longer. Yeah.
- 13:36Speaker 3: This is a complete vibes play for me.
- 13:38Speaker 1: And again, some historical, and I mean, very recent historical,
- 13:43Speaker 1: like just watching the sec, watching college football, some of that, um,
- 13:49Speaker 1: is part of the vibes. I mean, you talked about,
- 13:52Speaker 1: you know, we, we talked about like where teams are
- 13:55Speaker 1: right now. You look at Nebraska, you know, and, and Oregon,
- 13:59Speaker 1: Oregon can't get out of their own way and has
- 14:01Speaker 1: what six turnovers against UCLA, uh, And then their defense
- 14:05Speaker 1: plays out of their mind. Nebraska's defense played really well, obviously,
- 14:09Speaker 1: you know, the kind of the way it's written in
- 14:10Speaker 1: the stars, you know, the, the, the kid beats his,
- 14:14Speaker 1: his old team in, in Rayola. But Nebraska held right
- 14:18Speaker 1: there with Indiana. And we were thinking, yeah, maybe India
- 14:20Speaker 1: is a little overrated.
- 14:21Speaker 3: They were right there.
- 14:22Speaker 1: They were being, they were a foot out of bounds
- 14:23Speaker 1: away from being that right there with Ohio state. And
- 14:26Speaker 1: of course we, you know, I, I picked Nebraska on
- 14:28Speaker 1: the road.
- 14:28Speaker 3: They, they, they let me down.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Notre Dame, you know, played one of their best games
- 14:33Speaker 1: against Stanford.
- 14:34Speaker 3: And you're thinking like, okay, they're rolling now.
- 14:36Speaker 1: BYU is barely scraping by big 12 teams and then
- 14:39Speaker 1: BYU went. So, If you just look at how the
- 14:43Speaker 1: two teams are playing the easy pick here is Ole miss,
- 14:46Speaker 1: but I just, I, nothing easy has happened in this
- 14:50Speaker 1: sport this year, right? From Florida state, Miami to Texas, Florida,
- 14:53Speaker 1: to Auburn, Georgia, to Alabama, Tennessee, just, you know, I mean,
- 14:58Speaker 1: I think that's why Vegas house, South Carolina is a favorite.
- 15:00Speaker 1: And then we talked about that just briefly over texts.
- 15:02Speaker 1: It's just like, nobody can string it together. It feels like,
- 15:05Speaker 1: I mean, you know, certainly teams have and done a
- 15:07Speaker 1: better job than others. Yeah, logic would tell you that
- 15:11Speaker 1: Ole Miss is playing better. And they might even have
- 15:13Speaker 1: some matchup advantages if Arch doesn't kind of play better
- 15:16Speaker 1: than he's played for most of this year outside of
- 15:18Speaker 1: that fourth quarter against Ohio State. But all that said,
- 15:22Speaker 1: I'll take Texas minus three, three and a half.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:25Speaker 2: It's just like that.
- 15:27Speaker 3: I think Ole Miss is better. So Ole Miss fans
- 15:28Speaker 3: will say, oh, you don't believe. No, I think you're better.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I just think the SEC is dumb right now. I
- 15:32Speaker 1: think the sport is dumb right now. And things that
- 15:35Speaker 1: don't make.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Sense continue to happen week after week. And so.
- 15:38Speaker 1: if I'm falling into the Texas three and a half trap,
- 15:40Speaker 1: then I'm falling into the Texas three and a half trap.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Like that's what it is. And congrats to Ole Miss.
- 15:44Speaker 1: I enjoy, I will enjoy the fireworks after on the
- 15:47Speaker 1: Twitter timeline.
- 15:47Speaker 3: If, if Texas drops it.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I'll, and I'll, Hey, like I've been,
- 15:55Speaker 2: I've been calling target hypocrite for many years. Like, don't
- 15:58Speaker 2: get me wrong. If, if this goes South for them,
- 16:01Speaker 2: then it will fit some things that I said a
- 16:04Speaker 2: long time ago, but I just kind of, I do
- 16:09Speaker 2: think some of these games that we've seen this year
- 16:11Speaker 2: where like, like the first one in my head was
- 16:14Speaker 2: when Ole Miss went to Florida and everybody's like, well,
- 16:20Speaker 2: Ole Miss is going to obviously beat Florida, but Florida
- 16:24Speaker 2: was favored in that game. And I was like, this stinks, man,
- 16:26Speaker 2: this stinks. And this spread stinks as well. I just,
- 16:31Speaker 2: I do think this could be kind of a shootout
- 16:33Speaker 2: a game actually. Like I could see that happening. I think,
- 16:38Speaker 2: We've seen Ole Miss, when they face teams with a
- 16:42Speaker 2: certain level of competency on offense, then, like, the whole
- 16:47Speaker 2: thing kind of breaks the other way than it did
- 16:49Speaker 2: against Missouri. So, I'll go Texas, but I could also
- 16:55Speaker 2: see this game being one that, like, Texas looks like
- 16:58Speaker 2: it's going to win, and then there's the crippling Arch
- 17:00Speaker 2: Manning turnover with four minutes left in the fourth quarter
- 17:04Speaker 2: that sets up the Trinidad, like, go ahead, touchdown drive. And,
