- 0:02Speaker 1: Drama, Darling Drama, Darling Drama, Darling.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Okay, we tried something, it didn't work.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Darlings, welcome in. It is a Liza Minelli kind of
- 0:29Speaker 3: a day. And Emily Dress and I are going to
- 0:32Speaker 3: talk about this beautiful documentary that we watched called Liza,
- 0:37Speaker 3: a truly terrific, absolutely true story.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Which is free to stream on the PBS app.
- 0:46Speaker 3: And let me tell you, Emily, you're ahead of the game.
- 0:50Speaker 3: You were three steps ahead of me again. And I
- 0:53Speaker 3: just said, yeah, you know, that's a great idea. Let's
- 0:55Speaker 3: do Liza, right. And I was thinking, oh, it'll be
- 0:59Speaker 3: available here, here, there, everywhere that you find stuff for free.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Didn't even like look, and then I get a.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Text from you that says, by the way, with this
- 1:08Speaker 3: tip about PBS, because as you can see when you
- 1:13Speaker 3: Google it, it's just you have to buy it on
- 1:15Speaker 3: Amazon Prime, you have to buy it on Apple TV.
- 1:19Speaker 3: I can't remember the other outlets, but it's not free.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Yeah. I think it was initially a showtime streamer when
- 1:28Speaker 1: it first came out a couple months ago, but now
- 1:32Speaker 1: PBS has the rights to it and it's free.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Amazing, So yeah, I just I asked Brett to download
- 1:38Speaker 3: that app to the television and he did so immediately,
- 1:42Speaker 3: as wow, my instructions.
- 1:43Speaker 1: How did he? I mean, yeah, you've got yourself an
- 1:46Speaker 1: it guy, I do.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I was like, download zeb I don't know, watch it.
- 1:51Speaker 4: I can't watch.
- 1:52Speaker 3: This, mother, and he was like, yes, yes I will.
- 1:58Speaker 3: So I am so happy to have taken this film
- 2:02Speaker 3: in and what a delight to be able to talk
- 2:06Speaker 3: about it today. Now we are recording this on Saturday evening.
- 2:11Speaker 3: This is before my trip to Disney. I'm leaving in
- 2:14Speaker 3: a couple of days, and because I'm trying to get
- 2:17Speaker 3: Disney ready and do all the things I am not
- 2:22Speaker 3: donned in Liza Minlly gear right now. So if you're
- 2:24Speaker 3: listening to this, this is the better experience. If you're watching,
- 2:27Speaker 3: I apologize although Emily is looking absolutely stunning.
- 2:31Speaker 2: And I wore just blouse.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I wore a high colored blouse.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Just because the way it hangs, you know what it's doing.
- 2:40Speaker 2: It what it wants to do.
- 2:41Speaker 1: The fabric is doing what it wants to do. Yes,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I stared at this, I don't know a week.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Yeah about I remember you saying you got that blouse.
- 2:51Speaker 3: The fabric for the blouse and the hanger yeah.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I mean the side of my armchair, just threw it
- 2:58Speaker 1: there and stared at it for a week.
- 3:01Speaker 3: That that blouse wanted a cup of coffee and a
- 3:04Speaker 3: pack of Virginia Slims Ultra lights, yes, in a flip
- 3:08Speaker 3: top box, and you gave it to it. And now
- 3:12Speaker 3: look at you. Look how gorgeous it is on you. Now,
- 3:14Speaker 3: if you're wondering why we're being so specific about that,
- 3:17Speaker 3: A big chunk of this episode, I mean sorry, the
- 3:20Speaker 3: big chunk of this documentary was talking about Holston because obviously,
- 3:23Speaker 3: you know, you mentioned Holston, you mentioned Liza, you mentioned Liza,
- 3:26Speaker 3: you mentioned Holston. They're they're together, this anonymous and of
- 3:30Speaker 3: course we got to talk to a lot of his
- 3:32Speaker 3: appronie in the documentary, who of course said that that,
- 3:38Speaker 3: you know, some of the the designs that they would
- 3:41Speaker 3: make were they would take the fabric and they would
- 3:44Speaker 3: let it hang for days and stare at it, just
- 3:46Speaker 3: wait days until it would tell it, tell them what
- 3:49Speaker 3: to do with it and how it would be, and
- 3:51Speaker 3: they ultimately just did with it what it wanted to do.
- 3:54Speaker 2: And you know what I say to that coeludes drugs.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Drugs, drugs, drugs, drugs, drug because if you haven't seen
- 4:01Speaker 3: the Holston series, which I thought was great, I don't
- 4:04Speaker 3: I remember not getting the greatest reviews. I don't remember
- 4:07Speaker 3: who played Halls.
- 4:07Speaker 1: They threw some shade. They threw some shade on that
- 4:10Speaker 1: Holston in the lies of documentary too. Did you catch that? No?
- 4:13Speaker 2: What did they say?
- 4:14Speaker 4: Oh?
- 4:14Speaker 3: Yes, they said yes. It was one of the APPRENTI
- 4:18Speaker 3: who said something along the lines of, despite what it's depicted,
- 4:21Speaker 3: it's rarely depicted of Halston, that he was this funny, fun.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Late as it's been depicted.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, good call, Emily, good call. And I was like, yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 3: that entire documentary was about how debaucherous his whole life was.
- 4:37Speaker 3: That it was about sex and drugs and irresponsibility with
- 4:42Speaker 3: his business, that he was never holding on to it,
- 4:45Speaker 3: holding on to it with a barely if within an
- 4:47Speaker 3: inch of its life or say a thread, and how
- 4:52Speaker 3: he ultimately practically, i mean, lost it pretty much and
- 4:56Speaker 3: had to sell out to like what was it, J C.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Penny or something like that in the end.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, something like that. But according to Liza, no
- 5:04Speaker 1: drugs ever, no drinks ever, Studio fifty four. And that's
- 5:08Speaker 1: on us for believing the hype.
- 5:12Speaker 3: She was like, amazing, ever amazed four absolutely maybe Studio
- 5:18Speaker 3: fifty two, never Studio fifty more. That was a remarkable moment,
- 5:24Speaker 3: you know, a remarkable moment. Had that not been in there,
- 5:30Speaker 3: I mean, I guess it being in there just really
- 5:32Speaker 3: shows the type of dar say yeah. I mean, I
- 5:37Speaker 3: don't want to say it, you know, I don't want
- 5:39Speaker 3: to say delusion or denial, but it's important. But I
- 5:42Speaker 3: also think she's coming from an angle of like, let's
- 5:45Speaker 3: stop depicting things as just one thing, much like that
- 5:49Speaker 3: Apprentie of Holston was saying that the documentary was depicting
- 5:52Speaker 3: about him or I'm sorry that the dramatic series, and
- 5:56Speaker 3: let's paint all sides of the story. And maybe that's
- 5:59Speaker 3: perhaps what Lies is doing by taking away all of
- 6:02Speaker 3: the drugs and saying.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Not one drug, not one drug in Studio fifty four.
- 6:07Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Again, like she's been saying this over and over, She's like, again,
- 6:12Speaker 3: there were no drugs, nobody was doing drugs.
- 6:14Speaker 2: It's like wow, which.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Is so weird because I've always thought how cool it
- 6:19Speaker 1: was that she embraced her addiction and her issues like that,
- 6:24Speaker 1: and for her to then say that I was like,
- 6:27Speaker 1: I don't know, but I think it was that Michael
- 6:29Speaker 1: Fineste that was like was it him? That was like
- 6:32Speaker 1: her parents are MGM or parents like they were raised
- 6:36Speaker 1: in the business to act a certain way on camera,
- 6:40Speaker 1: and that's you know, I mean not that they were
- 6:43Speaker 1: raised on MGM. It's just that that is how they
- 6:46Speaker 1: were taught to handle business. Yes, and you get little
- 6:50Speaker 1: glimpses of that with Eliza.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Still it's amazing, I mean, because you can't you can't
- 6:57Speaker 3: buy that kind of media training now with people. You
- 7:00Speaker 3: know that that era, at least with her specifically, bread
- 7:05Speaker 3: what you saw if she were to be in an
- 7:09Speaker 3: interview pleasant, covering up at all, with a smile, joking,
- 7:14Speaker 3: you know, things when they're like, well, what about your mother?
- 7:17Speaker 3: You know that you would Are you glad that you're
- 7:19Speaker 3: not following in the footsteps of her and her addictions
- 7:21Speaker 3: and that you're facing this head on and you're being public.
- 7:25Speaker 2: What do you have to say about that?
- 7:27Speaker 3: I would say, not another question about my mother, you know,
- 7:32Speaker 3: like laugh it off instead of It's.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Just that was the wish that she had. If she could,
- 7:37Speaker 1: if you could walk down your mother's yellow brick road,
- 7:40Speaker 1: what would the one thing you wish you could change,
- 7:45Speaker 1: happen or change And she said, not one more question
- 7:49Speaker 1: about my mother.
- 7:50Speaker 2: And oh, that's right.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I read it. I really got it. I and I
- 7:55Speaker 1: think I knew a lot about all of it. I
- 7:57Speaker 1: knew she was over it, but like I didn't realized
- 8:00Speaker 1: she was publicly that over it, that she's just throwing
- 8:03Speaker 1: that away on like a evening magazine interview. Right, we're
- 8:09Speaker 1: supposed to be bubblegum. Yes.
- 8:12Speaker 3: And the other thing about her really being public about
- 8:15Speaker 3: being in rehab was a game changer, I think for
- 8:18Speaker 3: many people in Hollywood.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Yeah, she was.
- 8:21Speaker 3: She paved that path, and I know that she had
- 8:24Speaker 3: some slip ups if you will, after that. I mean
- 8:27Speaker 3: it's a journey for so Yeah, but she was really
- 8:32Speaker 3: transparent about it. And also the idea that she was
- 8:36Speaker 3: emphatic about how this is not because of her mother,
- 8:40Speaker 3: This is not because of her mother.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Well, but it is. I mean, it's genetic, the addiction,
- 8:46Speaker 1: you know. In that way, I think I wonder if
- 8:48Speaker 1: now because they were only playing interviews from earlier, and
- 8:53Speaker 1: I wonder if now she gets it medically. I wonder
- 8:57Speaker 1: if we all didn't quite get it back then and
- 8:59Speaker 1: now she never she didn't like update that thinking. But
- 9:02Speaker 1: I would think she gets the genetic part of it
- 9:05Speaker 1: now more, don't you.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Perhaps they did not ask her a ton of questions
- 9:11Speaker 3: in her current sit down interview. It was a lot
- 9:15Speaker 3: of flashbacks, and that's fine, because what will you expect?
- 9:18Speaker 2: I mean, she is how old is she now?
- 9:23Speaker 1: Seventy nine?
- 9:24Speaker 2: Okay, so you know which George Hamilton?
- 9:29Speaker 1: I was like, how old is he? George Hamilton is
- 9:32Speaker 1: like eighty five. He looks great, he looks great. Yeah,
- 9:36Speaker 1: Liza's had I mean she's had a rough seventy nine years.
- 9:42Speaker 3: You know, she also looked she looked older when she
- 9:45Speaker 3: was nineteen. I mean she looked forty when she was
- 9:48Speaker 3: like in her twenty so but go ahead, yeah, what well.
- 9:52Speaker 1: She do you remember when she like in twenty twenty two,
- 9:56Speaker 1: when she came out for the Academy Awards.
- 9:58Speaker 3: It was right after the Walls in the wheelchair. She
- 10:02Speaker 3: was in that wheelchair.
- 10:03Speaker 1: In the wheelchair. You know, she wasn't supposed to be
- 10:07Speaker 1: in a wheelchair. She was supposed to be in a
- 10:09Speaker 1: director's chair. And they were going to push the platform
- 10:11Speaker 1: out so that the audience just saw her on a
- 10:13Speaker 1: platform and Lady Gaga talking to her eye to eye,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and after that they put her in a wheelchair, which
- 10:20Speaker 1: she said she wouldn't do the Academy Awards if she
- 10:23Speaker 1: was in a wheelchair. And it was chaotic, chaotic, as
- 10:28Speaker 1: Boston Rob would say backstage, it was, and so they
- 10:30Speaker 1: were like, you know, get in the wheelchair. You gotta
- 10:32Speaker 1: get in the wheelchair. We're going. And so she was not
- 10:35Speaker 1: only confused that she was in a wheelchair, but like
- 10:39Speaker 1: also like this is like feeling just so overcome with
- 10:43Speaker 1: anger that and then like just not understanding what was happening.
- 10:48Speaker 1: She would the time was moved. So I just remember
- 10:50Speaker 1: watching that and being like, oh my god, she's so
- 10:54Speaker 1: out of it. Yeah, but I do think that there
- 10:56Speaker 1: is I have read that maybe there is a little
- 10:58Speaker 1: dementia starting to creep in, but I I don't know
- 11:00Speaker 1: if that was then, But but after the fact, I
- 11:03Speaker 1: was like, how dare they? How dare that stage manager
- 11:06Speaker 1: whoever like puts her in a wheelchair? How dare you?
- 11:10Speaker 3: I that makes me, I write, I did not I
- 11:12Speaker 3: know hear that, And I was wondering, I mean we
- 11:15Speaker 3: all were wondering and concerned. Yeah, with her state of mind.
- 11:21Speaker 3: More than physically because it's fine, like no shame think
- 11:25Speaker 3: about it on a wheelchair.
- 11:26Speaker 1: But she looking straight up at Lady Gaga who's talking
- 11:30Speaker 1: like that's already weird because I don't know, like she's
- 11:34Speaker 1: got physical issues. I don't know how hard that was
- 11:36Speaker 1: for her to be like fully looking straight up at
- 11:39Speaker 1: Lady Gaga like that on her neck and then like,
- 11:42Speaker 1: I'm not supposed to be in a wheelchair. This is
- 11:43Speaker 1: not even the space we rehearsed in, like I don't
- 11:45Speaker 1: know what the hell like, and Lady Gaga is like
- 11:47Speaker 1: bending down talking to her. I hated it.
- 11:50Speaker 2: And then Lady Gaga comes out of that looking like.
- 11:52Speaker 3: A hero, you know, like yes, you know, because she
- 11:55Speaker 3: was like I got you or whatever. It's like, well,
- 11:58Speaker 3: you're you're standing directly behind her. You're not doing her
- 12:01Speaker 3: any favors, but you know, move to the side, do
- 12:03Speaker 3: what you can do, because and it made it look
- 12:07Speaker 3: like she was treating her with kid gloves because she
- 12:12Speaker 3: was treating her like a senile old grandmother.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and also in fairness to Lady Gaga, it's like
- 12:18Speaker 1: she didn't ask for this either, but yeah, here we are.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Yeah I know, I know. But also like if something
- 12:25Speaker 3: went wrong backstage where they couldn't get some of the
- 12:29Speaker 3: platform to move and they had to throw her in
- 12:31Speaker 3: that wheelchair. I mean, that's a little bit of a
- 12:33Speaker 3: different story. But I would have been interested to hear
- 12:36Speaker 3: her speak to that, you know, current day.
- 12:39Speaker 1: She didn't. That's why I kind of wonder if the
- 12:41Speaker 1: dementia is a little creeped in here.
- 12:44Speaker 3: It seems like it, I mean, because there would have
- 12:47Speaker 3: been more yeah, allegedly, I mean, there would have been
- 12:50Speaker 3: more questions. But you know, her her pizazz and her
- 12:56Speaker 3: charisma for life and joy is just like it's unmatched.
- 13:02Speaker 3: And when you see her in her home, I I
- 13:07Speaker 3: assume that's her home that they're shooting in, correct, Yeah, okay,
- 13:10Speaker 3: so yeah, And I love how she just has her
- 13:14Speaker 3: finger on the pulse of production and staging in everything
- 13:18Speaker 3: at any point, you know, because from the jump when
- 13:21Speaker 3: they're showing her.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Now when she's using that iPad. Though the angles she
- 13:25Speaker 1: used on the iPad not Vincent Minelli approved, but go ahead.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Yeah that when she wanted her she was like higher, higher,
- 13:35Speaker 3: get up there. You know, she was like, you know,
- 13:38Speaker 3: telling them what shots to make. But the point is
- 13:42Speaker 3: that she wants to be a part of this everything
- 13:45Speaker 3: and wants to you know, be organizing from production to
- 13:50Speaker 3: pointing out when they showed her a clip of her
- 13:52Speaker 3: and k and being like, this was a smart thing
- 13:55Speaker 3: to do to show me this, because you know, this
- 13:59Speaker 3: will put me in a good This will put me
- 14:00Speaker 3: in a good headspace. And it seemed like and she
- 14:03Speaker 3: obviously said at the very beginning that she was nervous
- 14:06Speaker 3: about doing.
- 14:06Speaker 1: This, which is wild to think of her as getting
- 14:10Speaker 1: nervous about anything, Like why would she ever be.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Why would she be nervous about talking about her life?
- 14:19Speaker 3: You know, if she was, why would she do it?
- 14:22Speaker 3: And you have to wonder, I mean, obviously the people
- 14:25Speaker 3: who produce this, she must have been friends with them,
- 14:27Speaker 3: because yeah, she's loyal as hell, as we've seen throughout
- 14:31Speaker 3: this entire documentary that she will do anything for a friend,
- 14:35Speaker 3: so she must have been doing somewhat a favor.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Well, I also think that, you know, even for me,
- 14:43Speaker 1: and I'm sure you. I mean, I learned a lot
- 14:47Speaker 1: from it, So I think there was a lot that
- 14:49Speaker 1: even her friends were like, we really want to tell
- 14:52Speaker 1: the story of you, because otherwise it's going to get
- 14:56Speaker 1: lost to time. So we want we want to document
- 14:59Speaker 1: you in some way, you know, so I could see
- 15:03Speaker 1: her being like, that's important.
- 15:04Speaker 3: That's important.
- 15:05Speaker 2: I think that you're probably right about.
- 15:06Speaker 1: That, and I will only do it with you guys,
- 15:09Speaker 1: because you guys are the only ones I trust.
- 15:11Speaker 3: They were the closest people to her. I mean to
- 15:14Speaker 3: see all of the lineup of people that she had,
- 15:18Speaker 3: from her sister Lorna Luft to me a pharaoh who
- 15:22Speaker 3: I had no idea. They knew each other from a
- 15:24Speaker 3: tiny little age of like kindergarten, and they yeah, in
- 15:27Speaker 3: high school and they used to do shoots together, and
- 15:30Speaker 3: that was amazing. I just had no clue that they
- 15:33Speaker 3: were that close, did.
- 15:34Speaker 1: You I I you know, I didn't know. I knew
- 15:38Speaker 1: that Frank Sinatra paid for Judy Garland's funeral, and then
- 15:44Speaker 1: I put it together that maybe that was connected to
- 15:47Speaker 1: me a pharaoh, once I was watching this, and then
- 15:51Speaker 1: I yeah, And it's funny. In my head, I always
- 15:54Speaker 1: thought of Eliza and Frank Sinatra because of New York,
- 15:57Speaker 1: New York, but I didn't realize that that actually probably
- 16:01Speaker 1: really happened because like of Mia farrowh and that connection
- 16:06Speaker 1: in the sixties, Like I wonder if they became much
- 16:09Speaker 1: closer because of that, probably because Frank Sinatra and lizam
- 16:13Speaker 1: and I I am saying.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Right, right, right, because they're kids, and I mean yes allegedly.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Oh, I thought you were gonna say Mia Pharaoh's kids
- 16:23Speaker 1: with oh gosh, right, right right, allegedly.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Oh my gosh. Speaking of New York, New York, I
- 16:30Speaker 3: was really blown away by the story that I had
- 16:32Speaker 3: never heard about the song that is attached to the
- 16:35Speaker 3: movie that was starring Robert de Niro.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, the Scorsese movie, which is when her and
- 16:42Speaker 1: Scorsese had a fling. Yes, yeah, so New York, New York.
- 16:47Speaker 3: The song New York, New York that John and Freddie wrote,
- 16:54Speaker 3: John Candor and Freddy fred Ebbs, fred Ebb that they
- 16:59Speaker 3: wrote and was it de Naro or Scorsese. That was like,
- 17:03Speaker 3: I don't like it, write another Yeah, that's my part.
- 17:06Speaker 3: I thought, how do you have that much power? But
- 17:09Speaker 3: so they went back to the drawing board angry as hell.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Can't blame them, obviously, and wrote another song and that
- 17:16Speaker 3: became obviously the iconic New York, New York song, which
- 17:19Speaker 3: is the biggest hit of the entire world.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I didn't know that either, and I now want to
- 17:26Speaker 1: hear that original. It's the original has to be out
- 17:28Speaker 1: there because they seem to really like it. It would
- 17:32Speaker 1: be interesting to know, I a shually would it be
- 17:34Speaker 1: out there. I mean, I'm sure they're like, here's the original.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I mean, just for fun, they would have put it.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Maybe now they put it out there.
- 17:42Speaker 3: But like when when songs are written for movies, you know,
- 17:46Speaker 3: drafts or you know, things that don't see the light
- 17:48Speaker 3: of day. They don't ever see the light of day
- 17:51Speaker 3: because then they would have to pay for a whole
- 17:53Speaker 3: other separate song to be published and then it's all
- 17:56Speaker 3: this money. So I have a feeling it hasn't been
- 17:59Speaker 3: out unless they did it as a throwback. But like
- 18:03Speaker 3: for you know, it just goes to show Man. It's
- 18:07Speaker 3: when you challenge yourself creatively, even when you don't think
- 18:10Speaker 3: you should be. Sometimes it can be the best possible
- 18:13Speaker 3: thing for you. And a lot of the time creative
- 18:16Speaker 3: people need a structure, or need a structure, or need
- 18:20Speaker 3: a push or some something to get the best squeeze out,
- 18:23Speaker 3: the best jewel.
- 18:24Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, I remember it was Pharrell Williams that I know.
- 18:29Speaker 3: You're all waiting for my Farrell Williams story that I learned.
- 18:33Speaker 3: You know that song happy, and it was in Yeah, okay,
- 18:37Speaker 3: it's just it's just a lighthearted little story, but it
- 18:40Speaker 3: and it's obviously not an icon as iconic or clearly
- 18:43Speaker 3: to New York, New York. But the point is he
- 18:46Speaker 3: was writing that song for whatever movie that was in,
- 18:49Speaker 3: like a Minion's movie or something.
- 18:50Speaker 2: I don't remember what it was, trolls, naturals.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Wait, what was No, I'm thinking that justin Timberlake one. Yeah,
- 18:58Speaker 1: you're right, natural.
- 19:00Speaker 3: But because I know the whole catalog controls, so you know,
- 19:03Speaker 3: I'm just saying, okay, I'm a troll head.
- 19:06Speaker 1: But what was it? What was it?
- 19:08Speaker 3: Well, it was the movie that the Minions were in,
- 19:10Speaker 3: but it's not called that. It's not called You're absolutely right,
- 19:13Speaker 3: it's okay, we're gonna have to pause and look, all right,
- 19:16Speaker 3: So what is it?
- 19:17Speaker 1: Emily Despicable of Me?
- 19:19Speaker 2: Thank you?
- 19:20Speaker 3: So the song happy he did They had him do
- 19:24Speaker 3: twelve songs, twelve different songs for that movie to get happy.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Twelve for Rall Williams.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Oh wow, twelve, that was the twelve song.
- 19:34Speaker 3: And I'm always saying that because that's ludicrous, and yet
- 19:39Speaker 3: it isn't because look at what we got. Obviously, I'm
- 19:41Speaker 3: sure all the other songs were probably amazing too, but
- 19:44Speaker 3: that's definitely a bop. And anyway, my rant over I
- 19:49Speaker 3: have to say before we get even any further, is
- 19:53Speaker 3: to tell you that Ben rim Alauer, who is in
- 19:55Speaker 3: this documentary is my friend.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 19:59Speaker 3: He he runs the green Room forty two in New
- 20:03Speaker 3: York City.
- 20:04Speaker 2: He's been and not only that.
- 20:06Speaker 3: You guys have seen him on the Real Housewives of
- 20:08Speaker 3: New York the old version. When he was he helped
- 20:11Speaker 3: Luanne launch the first cabaret.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Oh.
- 20:15Speaker 2: That's so.
- 20:18Speaker 3: He's been a director, a writer, like and he runs
- 20:22Speaker 3: studio Studio fifty four. He runs the green Room forty two,
- 20:26Speaker 3: which I've done Cabarety at where I debuted Cabaremy. And
- 20:31Speaker 3: it was really because he reached out. We were like
- 20:34Speaker 3: messaging and he was like, what are you going to
- 20:36Speaker 3: do a show? And I was like, I've been thinking
- 20:38Speaker 3: about doing a show. He's like, come on. So then
- 20:41Speaker 3: I reached back out to him, like probably a year later,
- 20:44Speaker 3: and I was like, I think I'm gonna do this
- 20:45Speaker 3: cabaret thing.
- 20:46Speaker 2: He's like let's do it.
- 20:47Speaker 3: You know, he's always just so amazing and you know,
- 20:51Speaker 3: he really fosters a lot of people in terms of
- 20:54Speaker 3: like encouraging them to do stuff. And he was so
- 20:57Speaker 3: amazing when I did my show there. So yeah, it's
- 21:01Speaker 3: really cool to see them.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Anyway, so why don't we talk about so some of
- 21:09Speaker 3: the let's talk about Kay Thompson. Okay, because I didn't
- 21:13Speaker 3: know about her. Did you know about Kay Thompson?
- 21:16Speaker 1: Yeah, a little bit. I'm not as much as I
- 21:19Speaker 1: wish I did. But you know, she she's like in
- 21:25Speaker 1: a lot of the MGM stories that I've heard, and
- 21:29Speaker 1: you know, she was much older than Judy Garland in
- 21:31Speaker 1: terms of like she meant like Judy Garland was at
- 21:34Speaker 1: MGM as like a teen and Kay was there her.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Yeah right. And then it's crazy because she's chainsmoking in
- 21:44Speaker 1: this but she like lived into her nineties wow, which
- 21:49Speaker 1: is nuts. And also I was like, oh, she picked
- 21:51Speaker 1: out the white coffin for Judy, which I didn't realize
- 21:55Speaker 1: that And now I'm like, is that the same cop?
- 21:58Speaker 1: Because you know, Judy was moved in twenty seventeen from
- 22:02Speaker 1: New York.
- 22:02Speaker 2: To LA I didn't know that Liza.
- 22:06Speaker 1: And Laurna and Joe. I was wondering where Joe was
- 22:09Speaker 1: the son her brother e Liza's brother. But yeah, they
- 22:12Speaker 1: moved Judy from Ferncliffe in New York to Hollywood Forever
- 22:17Speaker 1: to the Judy Garland Pavilion in twenty seventeen. I was like,
- 22:20Speaker 1: I wonder that's the same coffin so that they can
- 22:23Speaker 1: all be around her in the same mausoleum, because there
- 22:26Speaker 1: was no space where she was put in nineteen sixty
- 22:29Speaker 1: nine to be buried near her, and they all want
- 22:31Speaker 1: to be buried near her. So there's all this deal making,
- 22:37Speaker 1: and Hollywood Forever I think made the.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Deal, won the deal over what's on borrom over there?
- 22:44Speaker 3: The other what's the other cemetery?
- 22:46Speaker 1: Forest Lawn, Burbank, Forest Lawn, Glendale, which is where Vincent
- 22:50Speaker 1: Manili is Worstlawn Glendale. Really, I know where all the
- 22:55Speaker 1: bloodies are buried.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Yeah you do, baby.
- 23:01Speaker 4: Well.
- 23:01Speaker 3: I loved hearing the story about how Kay stepped in
- 23:05Speaker 3: after Judy Garland's death and was like, we're MGM people,
- 23:08Speaker 3: like we want a white coffin and they're like, we
- 23:10Speaker 3: don't have those.
- 23:10Speaker 2: She's like, we're MGM people. Paint and white, you.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Know, and then they were like, I was so good.
- 23:17Speaker 2: That was delightful there about it.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean she deserves her own story, I.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Mean, just really does.
- 23:24Speaker 3: It sounds like she and you hate to hear the
- 23:27Speaker 3: stories about people, and there's so many the real talent
- 23:32Speaker 3: that never really got to shine as bright as they
- 23:35Speaker 3: deserve to, you know.
- 23:37Speaker 1: And yeah, I mean I fart. My heart kind of
- 23:41Speaker 1: gets sad for that. But then at the same time,
- 23:44Speaker 1: that's business, baby, yeah, because it's like she was an
- 23:48Speaker 1: incredible author in terms of a success story.
- 23:51Speaker 3: So she wrote Eloise, which I did not know either.
- 23:55Speaker 3: I did not know, and that that character, Eloise, is
- 23:57Speaker 3: based off of Liza.
- 23:59Speaker 1: See. That's the other thing I had heard about her
- 24:01Speaker 1: is like this she was friends with Judy Garland and
- 24:04Speaker 1: that she was in their life a lot, and that
- 24:07Speaker 1: was the kind of crossover. But what I I when
- 24:11Speaker 1: I'm hearing her sad that about not being showcased as
- 24:16Speaker 1: the star, I'm like, I bet there's a lot of
- 24:19Speaker 1: children's authors out there that are like, uh, I don't
- 24:23Speaker 1: know where you're coming in with this Eloise and knocking
- 24:25Speaker 1: us all off the shelves, Like the fuck are you right?
- 24:28Speaker 3: That's that's true, but that's not what she ultimately wanted
- 24:32Speaker 3: in the depths of her soul. You know, she wants
- 24:35Speaker 3: to be on stage and recognize for her performance, not
- 24:38Speaker 3: necessarily the written word where she's not seen.
- 24:41Speaker 2: I know.
- 24:42Speaker 1: But how many authors are out there like wanting the
- 24:44Speaker 1: depths of their souls to like be a.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Oscar winners, the Oscar winners, right, yeah, yeah, yes, I
- 24:55Speaker 3: understand it was it was interesting to hear some of
- 24:58Speaker 3: the talking heads be like, I had a lot of jealousy,
- 25:01Speaker 3: you know, And.
- 25:04Speaker 1: How about Judy that footage that I've seen that before,
- 25:07Speaker 1: but I hadn't seen it in a minute with Judy
- 25:09Speaker 1: on stage with Liza.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Her shoving that microphone up to her face was multiple
- 25:15Speaker 3: times about as tough as it gets.
- 25:19Speaker 1: And her face just changed. It got it, you know
- 25:25Speaker 1: when when Liza had her solo and then you see
- 25:29Speaker 1: Judy and her face just shifts to like crazy, she
- 25:36Speaker 1: just went, it.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Shifts to crazy. Yeah, yeah, I mean at that. And
- 25:40Speaker 3: then the other thing is it's like at that time
- 25:43Speaker 3: she was obviously she could not stop herself from the
- 25:48Speaker 3: addiction that she was dealing with. That certainly is not
- 25:51Speaker 3: going to help.
- 25:53Speaker 1: And you know what Lisa said, there she is, just
- 25:57Speaker 1: like Dury said, a sudden there she is.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Now she comes, she comes here, she comes the real mother.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I'm so glad I already forgot that.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Well, it's amazing to me how Liza protects her mother
- 26:18Speaker 3: to this day. And yeah, you know, she's just like
- 26:22Speaker 3: she like we were saying before, she says that her mom.
- 26:25Speaker 3: It's not because of her mom her struggles, and you mentioned, well, yeah,
- 26:29Speaker 3: I mean part of it is obviously, if it's an addiction,
- 26:32Speaker 3: it could be genetic and those types of things. But
- 26:36Speaker 3: I think her obvious point is, you know, she had sworn.
- 26:41Speaker 2: To not do drugs.
- 26:42Speaker 3: I mean, that was like her thing obviously, much like
- 26:44Speaker 3: you don't want to follow in the same path as
- 26:47Speaker 3: what you've seen your parents do wrong.
- 26:48Speaker 2: You want to change the cycle.
- 26:49Speaker 3: And she swore she wouldn't do drugs, and yet she,
- 26:54Speaker 3: you know, accidentally fell fell into it. And it was
- 26:57Speaker 3: like she really softens the story by saying, you know,
- 27:01Speaker 3: I'm nervous, I'm on stage and somebody says, we'll have
- 27:03Speaker 3: a drink. It'll make you feel better. Okay, I'll have
- 27:05Speaker 3: a rum and coke. I'll have a rum and coke,
- 27:07Speaker 3: and she calls them.
- 27:08Speaker 4: Silly drinks and just and I had these silly drinks.
- 27:10Speaker 3: And then the valume obviously, so it it's but I
- 27:17Speaker 3: don't know what else, and I don't I don't need
- 27:19Speaker 3: to know what else. All I know is she's a survivor,
- 27:22Speaker 3: you know, and.
- 27:25Speaker 2: With a lot of poise.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah. Also, like I mean, god, bless if I I
- 27:32Speaker 1: don't the energy that she needed to do one of
- 27:35Speaker 1: her performances. I don't know how she could, even the
- 27:39Speaker 1: day before take it down like a barbituate or something,
- 27:42Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like, I'm like, God, your system,
- 27:45Speaker 1: how did it overcome that that quickly? Well?
- 27:50Speaker 2: Then I mean how did Judy Garland do it too?
- 27:52Speaker 3: I mean it is in the genes many just like
- 27:54Speaker 3: it's crazy because you know, I don't I don't know
- 27:58Speaker 3: the scientific aspect of it. But when Liza's on stage
- 28:04Speaker 3: and she's performing, you know, from her soul, because that's
- 28:08Speaker 3: what it is. And same with Judy. But like you know,
- 28:10Speaker 3: they are not just coming out and ever, you know,
- 28:13Speaker 3: phoning it in. It is like a performance of a lifetime.
- 28:17Speaker 3: You'd think that that was like their last performance ever.
- 28:20Speaker 3: And she ends she's leaving the stage like a fighter,
- 28:25Speaker 3: you know, yeah, like towel over her head like she
- 28:28Speaker 3: just fought.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Mm hm.
- 28:31Speaker 3: And I wonder if some of it is like with
- 28:35Speaker 3: the with the sweating, if it is like sweating out
- 28:38Speaker 3: those barbituates, sweating out some of that, if that's why,
- 28:41Speaker 3: you know, Halstein was like, well, since you sweat so
- 28:44Speaker 3: much on stage, we're gonna make sequence. I wonder if
- 28:46Speaker 3: that had something to do with it, with the amount
- 28:48Speaker 3: of drugs and alcohol in her system that she just
- 28:50Speaker 3: sweats profusely when she performs.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean also like a chainsmoker. I mean, I'm
- 28:57Speaker 1: watching all of this and then watching her do a
- 29:00Speaker 1: workout on a level that I've never seen, and I'm like,
- 29:04Speaker 1: how did you do this? How did you? Like? How
- 29:08Speaker 1: did like? I then I think, like, what if you
- 29:10Speaker 1: had never done one drug or smoked one cigarette?
- 29:13Speaker 2: Like like not as good forever?
- 29:16Speaker 3: Oh as I'm joking, But she was constantly out of breath,
- 29:21Speaker 3: you know, like all the footage of her just like
- 29:23Speaker 3: lying on the floor just you know, everything.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Even when she was at like a Halston fitting, she'd be.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Like boom ba ba chim boo.
- 29:30Speaker 2: You know.
- 29:31Speaker 3: I mean, she's always just like that classic sweaty hair.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Just just off the stage.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Look, it's incredible and and not for nothing, but she
- 29:43Speaker 3: had a lineup of lovers like we've never seen and
- 29:46Speaker 3: that was great. That was great to really hear some
- 29:50Speaker 3: of the uh, the folks that that came and went.
- 29:54Speaker 3: And of course she had so many you know marriages.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and she with her and Ben Vereen like in
- 30:02Speaker 1: terms of it being like serious, serious, I know that
- 30:06Speaker 1: I've seen that picture. Yeah, I didn't know.
- 30:10Speaker 3: When he said when he was looking at the footage.
- 30:13Speaker 3: They were so smart to show footage to to the
- 30:16Speaker 3: all these people. But when he was looking at them
- 30:19Speaker 3: and hugging and stuff on that photo shoot, and he
- 30:22Speaker 3: was like just choking up and being and he said,
- 30:24Speaker 3: I guess you call it love. I love Liza, That's
- 30:27Speaker 3: my baby. And I just like got so choked up.
- 30:30Speaker 3: I just thought it was so beautiful because you know
- 30:33Speaker 3: so many of these people and you've got Peter Allen
- 30:36Speaker 3: was her first husband, and he she said, you know,
- 30:39Speaker 3: he needed to come out of the closet or somebody
- 30:41Speaker 3: said that he had an incident that happened and then
- 30:46Speaker 3: they obviously.
- 30:47Speaker 1: He was gay.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Well yeah, just being yeah.
- 30:50Speaker 3: You know, trying to trying to be eloquent about it,
- 30:52Speaker 3: and you know.
- 30:54Speaker 4: He was gay.
- 30:55Speaker 3: He was gay mother, just like Vincent Minellie and probably
- 31:00Speaker 3: David Guest allegedly.
- 31:02Speaker 2: And you know, I mean it's.
- 31:05Speaker 3: That David Guest thing was a tough one because that
- 31:08Speaker 3: must have been at a real, as everybody said, a
- 31:11Speaker 3: real downtime in her life, and he just took her
- 31:13Speaker 3: for everything, right, he just Oh that was a rough
- 31:16Speaker 3: it was.
- 31:17Speaker 1: I remember that. It was so confusing. It's in the
- 31:20Speaker 1: category of Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley, like I
- 31:23Speaker 1: just didn't understand or like Liz Taylor and that guy
- 31:26Speaker 1: Larry like I I mean, like I so, I just
- 31:32Speaker 1: like but they but he just seemed David Guests just
- 31:35Speaker 1: seemed evil.
- 31:36Speaker 3: He was he was a thief and he really took
- 31:40Speaker 3: advantage of her.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I wanted them to go in. I was like,
- 31:45Speaker 1: come on, dental couple, to give us the dirt. Like
- 31:48Speaker 1: you know, they were like that couple that was their friend.
- 31:53Speaker 1: They probably saw some.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Shit Alan and like Aleen or whatever.
- 31:58Speaker 1: I gotta look it up doctor Lazare. I looked at
- 32:01Speaker 1: his he died, Oh he did.
- 32:03Speaker 3: He was They were sweet. That was a really nice
- 32:06Speaker 3: couple that they were such good friends. They just like
- 32:08Speaker 3: met at a party and they were like friends for life.
- 32:11Speaker 1: So I like read his obituary. Yeah, and it's the
- 32:15Speaker 1: first line is was misdiagnosed with cancer. I was like, whoa,
- 32:20Speaker 1: this is this? Like so it like sounds like some
- 32:23Speaker 1: shit went down before he died. That's his first line
- 32:26Speaker 1: is like some motherfucker misdiagnosed him. Like that's and he's yeah,
- 32:32Speaker 1: but you know he did he invented plaques. Like they
- 32:36Speaker 1: glossed over that because its not really about Liza. But
- 32:39Speaker 1: he invented the mouthwash plaques.
- 32:41Speaker 2: No way, No, I didn't know that. It's amazing.
- 32:46Speaker 4: Yeah yet your plax mother.
- 32:51Speaker 3: I'm surprised she didn't do like a commercial for that,
- 32:53Speaker 3: since she.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Loved him so much. I mean, I wonder too if
- 32:57Speaker 1: they like were they didn't need money, they didn't need
- 33:01Speaker 1: Liza for anything but to be friends. So of course
- 33:04Speaker 1: I'm sure she appreciated.
- 33:05Speaker 3: That absolutely, and and and why would they ask for that?
- 33:09Speaker 3: They would never that. They aren't those kinds of people.
- 33:11Speaker 3: We know them salts of the earth. You know. Yeah,
- 33:16Speaker 3: let's this is a good time for a very quick break. Okay,
- 33:21Speaker 3: we are back. Oh, Emily was going to grab a
- 33:24Speaker 3: water and then she was like.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Oh no, no, no, oh, I was turning my alarm off.
- 33:28Speaker 3: Oh okay, we're back on Liza. Truly terrific, absolutely true story,
- 33:34Speaker 3: available on many different platforms to watch. And it was
- 33:38Speaker 3: so good And have we if you're watching my alarm
- 33:44Speaker 3: tried to grab a sip of water and she's not
- 33:46Speaker 3: allowed act like Liza okay, And it.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Was so good.
- 33:52Speaker 3: And my friend Ben Rimmelauer is interviewing in it looking fabulous,
- 33:57Speaker 3: and some of my favorite lines from this that she said, Okay,
- 34:03Speaker 3: so when she was being interviewed in present day, she
- 34:06Speaker 3: was like, I.
- 34:07Speaker 4: Wish I had a light in my fate, you know.
- 34:10Speaker 3: So she just like really wanted to be lit up.
- 34:12Speaker 3: And I just thought, Wow, that is such a performer,
- 34:14Speaker 3: you know, that is such a stage performer. She doesn't
- 34:17Speaker 3: feel like anything is even worth doing unless there's a
- 34:21Speaker 3: spotlight blinding her to the heavens.
- 34:24Speaker 1: You know you're gonna if you're gonna do it, do
- 34:27Speaker 1: it like a pro. Yeah, I mean, what's the point
- 34:30Speaker 1: otherwise point?
- 34:31Speaker 2: What's the point?
- 34:32Speaker 3: And then I loved when she was talking about Ka
- 34:36Speaker 3: and how she really took her under her wing and
- 34:38Speaker 3: she gives everybody credit for her career by the way,
- 34:42Speaker 3: which we'll get to, but every she's always like, I
- 34:45Speaker 3: surrounded myself with great people and that's why I am
- 34:47Speaker 3: who I am. It's not even me, it's everybody else.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:50Speaker 3: But she talked about Ka and when they be backstage,
- 34:52Speaker 3: she like, she slapped me on the bottom and said
- 34:54Speaker 3: go and I just love that, and I just I
- 34:58Speaker 3: love that.
- 34:58Speaker 2: She loved that.
- 35:00Speaker 3: She certainly got a maternal caring from Kay after her
- 35:08Speaker 3: mother died, because Kay really stepped in after her mother died.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Well even before. I think Kay was pretty present. When
- 35:15Speaker 1: she was not present, you're right, They're right.
- 35:19Speaker 2: She was, you're right, that's true, that's right.
- 35:22Speaker 3: And then okay, so then she was talking about something
- 35:29Speaker 3: in present day and she said, oh, yeah, I remember
- 35:35Speaker 3: when I did this song. And then she said, you
- 35:38Speaker 3: know when I did this, I want a natural oh
- 35:40Speaker 3: cut and go to the clip, and then they did
- 35:43Speaker 3: that because she's producing right there from her chair, and
- 35:45Speaker 3: then they caught and they go to her to the
- 35:47Speaker 3: clip of her singing I want a natural man, and
- 35:50Speaker 3: they come back and she's.
- 35:51Speaker 4: Like, I want a natural man, and.
- 35:53Speaker 3: She finishes it up and it's amazing. And another thing
- 35:58Speaker 3: that she said which I have loved is you know
- 36:02Speaker 3: when they I think they asked her about her love
- 36:05Speaker 3: life or something of that, and she was like, well.
- 36:08Speaker 4: I feel wonderful about love, you.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Know, just point blank.
- 36:14Speaker 1: That's it.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Just it. Okay.
- 36:18Speaker 3: So when her mother died, you know, seeing Judy Garland's
- 36:23Speaker 3: twenty thousand lineup at her funeral was absolutely incredible. You
- 36:29Speaker 3: just aren't going to see that anymore. That's just never
- 36:32Speaker 3: gonna happen.
- 36:34Speaker 1: I think it could if there was, Like I think
- 36:37Speaker 1: it kind of differ Princess Diana. I mean, it does happen.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Okay, Princess Diana probably like Michael Jackson. I mean, like,
- 36:47Speaker 3: so who did what would be the most thing?
- 36:51Speaker 2: It didn't really happen for him.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Not for him. It's got to be somebody that like,
- 36:59Speaker 1: first of all, a central they've got to be in
- 37:02Speaker 1: a major city, and they've got to be it's got
- 37:06Speaker 1: to be a shocker. I think you have to have
- 37:09Speaker 1: those two elements. I mean they have to be either
- 37:13Speaker 1: very young and unexpected or you know, like, but it
- 37:18Speaker 1: does happen, it's weird when it when it does happen
- 37:22Speaker 1: in every like I don't know, it's weird, but there
- 37:26Speaker 1: are just some people that it will happen with.
- 37:28Speaker 3: It's a phenomenon and it's very unusual. And just to
- 37:32Speaker 3: see that just blew my mind because I just I
- 37:37Speaker 3: haven't seen anything like that in present day when I've
- 37:40Speaker 3: been around personally Princess Diana. But I wasn't really where
- 37:47Speaker 3: were you really? I wasn't. I mean, I guess in
- 37:50Speaker 3: my adult years, you know what I mean, like within
- 37:53Speaker 3: the last twenty years.
- 37:55Speaker 2: And if you say Princess Diana one more time, ok.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Well, I mean I would also argue that it does
- 38:00Speaker 1: happen when a president dies, even if they were old,
- 38:03Speaker 1: like Jimmy Carter. So many people rolled out in Georgia
- 38:08Speaker 1: and rolled out, rolled out, Yeah, like you know, like
- 38:16Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know why or when it
- 38:17Speaker 1: will happen, but it does.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Okay, it does, and it will it'll happen.
- 38:21Speaker 1: For But Judy had a good turnout. Let's talk about that.
- 38:26Speaker 3: Bob Fosse. Let's talk about Bob Fosse. This guy what
- 38:30Speaker 3: a fucking whack job, but what a genius, you know,
- 38:32Speaker 3: I mean, this guy was such a mess and so,
- 38:37Speaker 3: you know, just such a product of that time, much
- 38:40Speaker 3: like Halston. I mean, you put a gaggle of these
- 38:43Speaker 3: people together during that time and then poof, you've got
- 38:46Speaker 3: that era of absolute you know, debauchery and drugs and
- 38:50Speaker 3: brilliant creativity. And it's it's amazing to me how she
- 38:57Speaker 3: it was very clear how she handled him and and
- 39:01Speaker 3: with you know, the way that she knew the business
- 39:05Speaker 3: to be. Obviously, he's completely hot hot headed. He was
- 39:10Speaker 3: the one example, and one of I'm sure a million
- 39:12Speaker 3: that we got was that he wanted to talk to
- 39:15Speaker 3: her after a day of shooting the movie Cabaret, right
- 39:20Speaker 3: and he was She knew he was unhappy, and she said,
- 39:24Speaker 3: you know, I'm not going into your office. No, And
- 39:27Speaker 3: he was like, I want to talk to you right now.
- 39:28Speaker 3: She was like, no, tomorrow, and he was like right now.
- 39:31Speaker 3: She's like, Bob, if I go in there, you're gonna
- 39:33Speaker 3: see a ton of horrible things to me. And then
- 39:35Speaker 3: in the morning, you're gonna send me flowers tomorrow, you know,
- 39:37Speaker 3: And like she just did that.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I say that to you all the time. I'm like, Amy,
- 39:42Speaker 1: I'm not gonna sit down with you right now, you know,
- 39:46Speaker 1: and Deanna too, and Jamie, you send us all flowers
- 39:49Speaker 1: and we're like, we're done with it.
- 39:50Speaker 3: I'm glad because you'dake my flower budget is really like
- 39:55Speaker 3: it's expired.
- 39:56Speaker 2: So thank you for pulling back, thank you for putting
- 39:58Speaker 2: me in my place.
- 40:00Speaker 1: No problem.
- 40:02Speaker 3: What do you think of bab Babby Fossy, Well, I mean.
- 40:07Speaker 1: He's a volatile, hot tempered person, much like her mother.
- 40:11Speaker 1: So I think she had the tools to deal with
- 40:14Speaker 1: that situation. And I also wondered too, I was like, Wow,
- 40:19Speaker 1: Halston Fosse. In my mind, these guys would I would
- 40:23Speaker 1: have thought would be the first ones to write her
- 40:25Speaker 1: off because of like, oh, she's just Judy Garland's kid.
- 40:31Speaker 1: And meanwhile they gave her a fair shot and then
- 40:35Speaker 1: really liked her.
- 40:36Speaker 2: So that's really interesting.
- 40:38Speaker 3: So when she talks about like she had to reinvent
- 40:41Speaker 3: herself essentially, you know, and it is the smartest thing
- 40:45Speaker 3: you really did see. I mean, I hate to say it,
- 40:48Speaker 3: but you saw branding at work at this time when
- 40:51Speaker 3: branding didn't exist. It really took an incredible creative team
- 40:58Speaker 3: to do what they did her and to give her
- 41:00Speaker 3: the opportunity and obviously she had the talent and skills
- 41:03Speaker 3: to do it, and the uniqueness to pull it off
- 41:06Speaker 3: and all those things that went along with it. So
- 41:08Speaker 3: they saw, you know, potential in here in her. But
- 41:12Speaker 3: it was interesting to see how Kay Thompson really was like,
- 41:15Speaker 3: let's figure out what you're gonna wear, what you're gonna do.
- 41:17Speaker 3: I'll introduce you to Holston. Then hooking up with Fred
- 41:22Speaker 3: Ebb and John Candor and all the work that they
- 41:26Speaker 3: allowed her to do because hanging out and she's like,
- 41:30Speaker 3: give me a song to sing, and they just absolutely
- 41:32Speaker 3: loved her to death and it just it blossomed her career.
- 41:37Speaker 3: I mean, the Cabaret movie is really what made her
- 41:39Speaker 3: take off and what launched her to.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Stardom.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean, nothing else to say on that
- 41:51Speaker 1: except for I wish they would have gone into her haircut,
- 41:54Speaker 1: because I mean, I know that she talks about like
- 41:58Speaker 1: how her dad showed her pictures of like Louis Silence
- 42:01Speaker 1: and stuff. But I was like, that's that's not like
- 42:05Speaker 1: because I've heard two different stories about her haircut, Okay.
- 42:09Speaker 1: One is that she got gum in her hair and
- 42:13Speaker 1: Mia Farrow and Peter cut it out and that was
- 42:17Speaker 1: like her haircut. Peter Sellerman, No, No, that, oh god,
- 42:22Speaker 1: how about that?
- 42:22Speaker 2: Yeah? That was no idea.
- 42:26Speaker 1: Yeah, no, Peter Allen, her first husband. Oh okay, so
- 42:29Speaker 1: I've heard that, and then the other but I and
- 42:32Speaker 1: then the other thing I heard is that like Vincent
- 42:34Speaker 1: Minnelli suggested it a haircut, which kind of I was like, oh,
- 42:41Speaker 1: that's a little bit. But the mea Pharaoh bubble gum
- 42:44Speaker 1: thing has been I just wanted either because it's still
- 42:48Speaker 1: not to I've heard that from good sources. I don't know.
- 42:51Speaker 1: I needed to know that haircuts.
- 42:53Speaker 3: I I'm going to ask Ben about that. Yeah, ask Ben,
- 42:57Speaker 3: because it did make sense that, you know, and she
- 43:00Speaker 3: was starting to you know, go upwards in her career,
- 43:03Speaker 3: and she was making this move to you know, reinvent herself,
- 43:07Speaker 3: and she was saying to her dad, Daddy, do I
- 43:10Speaker 3: have to dye my hair blunt and pluck my eyebrows out?
- 43:13Speaker 3: And then he gave her, you know, the advice like, no,
- 43:16Speaker 3: there's a way to do it. Look at these silent
- 43:18Speaker 3: you know, silent movie actress and who you already named them,
- 43:23Speaker 3: Louise Brooks, Louise Brooks.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Louise Brooks, and I don't remember well.
- 43:27Speaker 3: Lisa or oh, I can't remember her name. It's written
- 43:30Speaker 3: down here somewhere, but you know, there was a way
- 43:33Speaker 3: to do it, and that's what made her so unique,
- 43:35Speaker 3: which was incredible. So Fred Ebb and John Candor they
- 43:40Speaker 3: wrote this after Cabaret, which she won an Oscar for.
- 43:45Speaker 3: Then we we find out that they wrote Liza with
- 43:49Speaker 3: a Z and she performed this unbelievable stage show which
- 43:53Speaker 3: was filmed and it was a one night only thing,
- 43:56Speaker 3: and then from that she got an Emmy. Right, wasn't
- 44:00Speaker 3: it an Emmy that she got from that.
- 44:02Speaker 1: From the from the first live, first concert on television. Yeah.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Yeah, So that whole production blew my mind because I
- 44:14Speaker 3: didn't realize, you know, the birth of that and how
- 44:17Speaker 3: important that was in her career and very smart to
- 44:20Speaker 3: do after having a film and getting an Oscar and
- 44:23Speaker 3: then going back and doing something like a live performance
- 44:26Speaker 3: of all this original stuff.
- 44:28Speaker 1: It seems smart now, but I was thinking how risky
- 44:32Speaker 1: that was back then when television was not taken seriously
- 44:36Speaker 1: compared to being in the seventies, like the Sunday Night
- 44:41Speaker 1: Movie or whatever the tea made for TV movies and
- 44:45Speaker 1: like there wasn't concerts, but like it was kind of
- 44:48Speaker 1: looked down on, and so I thought, like, wow, you
- 44:52Speaker 1: just made your movie and now you're going to like
- 44:54Speaker 1: that the small screen that must have been screen, right,
- 44:58Speaker 1: a thing like I want I er if she kind
- 45:00Speaker 1: of got knocked a little bit at first when people
- 45:03Speaker 1: heard about that, because now it makes perfect sense it wouldn't.
- 45:06Speaker 1: You wouldn't think anything of it. But back then I
- 45:09Speaker 1: could see people like judging her before they saw it.
- 45:13Speaker 1: It was a risky move.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right, it was, and especially then when television
- 45:18Speaker 3: did not film well I mean, yeah, footage, and you know,
- 45:22Speaker 3: it's horrible to watch something that's on stage anything other
- 45:27Speaker 3: than being live. It's really rough. Yeah, so you know,
- 45:32Speaker 3: it just goes to show what an unbelievable performance it
- 45:36Speaker 3: must have been.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Well, I mean, hats off to Fred Ebb who directed it.
- 45:41Speaker 1: I mean really, because that's where the magic if you're
- 45:44Speaker 1: going to be at home, Yeah, you know, watching it
- 45:48Speaker 1: like how he thought that this should look? And I mean,
- 45:52Speaker 1: I guess he's just like filming it? Was it live?
- 45:56Speaker 3: Well, the performance was live, so it was filmed live.
- 46:00Speaker 3: It was one night only, so yeah, and and every
- 46:04Speaker 3: they were saying everybody was so nervous, so it's not
- 46:06Speaker 3: like they did. You know, when you do a stand
- 46:08Speaker 3: up to her live. You're filming in a couple different
- 46:10Speaker 3: locations or a couple different nights in a row, so
- 46:13Speaker 3: you can kind of splice together stuff. But that was
- 46:15Speaker 3: not the case in this situation. I do not believe.
- 46:18Speaker 3: It seemed like it was just a one night, one take.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Well, I guess I was wondering because some of the
- 46:23Speaker 1: shots are so close up, so they would have to
- 46:26Speaker 1: be the camera guys would have to be on stage
- 46:30Speaker 1: blocking the action from the audience. Yeah, which is fine
- 46:33Speaker 1: if you are that's what you're doing. I just didn't
- 46:37Speaker 1: know like how they did that.
- 46:40Speaker 3: Halston gave her this red sequin look which we all
- 46:43Speaker 3: know her to be, which is obviously incredible. And then
- 46:50Speaker 3: Chicago when Gwen Vernon had to take time off, and then,
- 46:56Speaker 3: of course we know that obviously her very good for
- 47:00Speaker 3: friends Fred and John wrote Chicago, and she was like,
- 47:05Speaker 3: I'll do it, I'll step in for her, and she
- 47:08Speaker 3: did it as a favor and the show, Yeah, she.
- 47:12Speaker 1: Just jumped in and off it and learned it in
- 47:15Speaker 1: a way to promote it. Yeah, don't promote it.
- 47:17Speaker 3: Don't say anything about me being in it. And then
- 47:21Speaker 3: I loved I don't know if it was Ben that
- 47:23Speaker 3: said this or whomever it was, explained that like in
- 47:26Speaker 3: the theater and they'd be like, we're sorry tonight's performance,
- 47:29Speaker 3: you know, well, we'll be without Gwen Verdon and then
- 47:33Speaker 3: the audience was like no, and they're like, instead we
- 47:36Speaker 3: played by e Liza Minelli and like.
- 47:40Speaker 2: Losing their minds.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that was very cool.
- 47:49Speaker 2: It was so neat.
- 47:50Speaker 3: And then oh I loved Darren Chris the actor and
- 47:54Speaker 3: performer and musician really yeah, he I love that he
- 48:01Speaker 3: had this amazing night with with Liza and this had
- 48:04Speaker 3: to have been within like the last like five years obviously, right,
- 48:07Speaker 3: had to have been correct ten years or something like that,
- 48:11Speaker 3: and that at the end of the night, like they
- 48:12Speaker 3: were all singing and stuff. And then at the end
- 48:14Speaker 3: of the night she kind of got everybody together and
- 48:16Speaker 3: she was like.
- 48:17Speaker 4: This is the gang. Now, this is the gang.
- 48:20Speaker 3: I just was like, oh my god, you just you
- 48:23Speaker 3: just can feel that that energy that she would say
- 48:27Speaker 3: something like that, and what an amazing I like that.
- 48:31Speaker 1: He's like, she probably says this a lot, yeah, because
- 48:35Speaker 1: that's exactly what I would be like, Oh, well that's cool.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Oh she says that every night.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Okay, cool, But she means it.
- 48:44Speaker 3: But she means it, and that's the difference whether she
- 48:46Speaker 3: sees them ever again, she means it from the bottom
- 48:49Speaker 3: of her little, her little Liza's soul. I loved also
- 48:55Speaker 3: hearing about her makeup artist, Christina, who she always used. Again, loyalty,
- 49:00Speaker 3: loyalty with this.
- 49:01Speaker 1: So we got the backstory on the lashes with that,
- 49:04Speaker 1: which I really was like, thank you. What about the
- 49:09Speaker 1: hair so like, because Liza's look is so iconic. We
- 49:13Speaker 1: got everything, yeah, but not the hair.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Well, we did get the hair. We did get version
- 49:19Speaker 3: of the hair, but you just don't believe it.
- 49:21Speaker 1: But that was well, that was just for Cabaret because
- 49:23Speaker 1: her haircut. She already had her haircut, she already had
- 49:26Speaker 1: she already.
- 49:27Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I see what you mean.
- 49:30Speaker 1: So so her Vincent Minelli was just like, you don't
- 49:33Speaker 1: have to like dye your hair blonde or whatever. You
- 49:37Speaker 1: can also go for these looks.
- 49:39Speaker 2: I see.
- 49:39Speaker 3: I'm so sorry. I didn't realize he was speaking to
- 49:42Speaker 3: her doing cabaret.
- 49:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that makes more sense.
- 49:47Speaker 3: I got that mixed up, okay, right, okay, So then
- 49:51Speaker 3: the lashes, yes, amazing.
- 49:54Speaker 1: Yeah, so and that she handmade them, and then Liza
- 50:01Speaker 1: got her in the union because the women weren't in
- 50:03Speaker 1: the union.
- 50:04Speaker 3: The women were not in the union. Makeup artists were
- 50:06Speaker 3: not in the union. They didn't allow them in there,
- 50:09Speaker 3: and e Liza pushed and then she was in. She
- 50:12Speaker 3: fought for her incredible And then a time when Christina
- 50:16Speaker 3: was sick and in the hospital.
- 50:18Speaker 2: What did Liza do.
- 50:19Speaker 4: Sammy Davis? Could you do me a favor? Could you
- 50:22Speaker 4: come and dance for my friend Christina? She's in the hospital,
- 50:24Speaker 4: she's not feeling good.
- 50:26Speaker 3: I mean, she got Sammy Davis to come over to
- 50:28Speaker 3: the hospital and tap dance for in her room.
- 50:30Speaker 2: Are you kidding me?
- 50:32Speaker 1: I love it. Little soft shoe, Little Sammy soft Shoe.
- 50:35Speaker 3: And the fact that he did that for her just
- 50:38Speaker 3: goes to show you know how much people loved Liza.
- 50:43Speaker 1: I mean, she must have caught Sammy Davis Junior on
- 50:45Speaker 1: a I mean, not that Sammy Davis Junior. She caught
- 50:48Speaker 1: him on a good day in terms of him being
- 50:50Speaker 1: willing to do that. I wonder what she was.
- 50:53Speaker 3: He was probably in the room two doors down. He
- 50:56Speaker 3: was probably in the hospital.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Too, maybe because he was not. I mean, she was
- 51:01Speaker 1: like iconically a great guy, but he also wasn't running
- 51:06Speaker 1: around and ready to do shit like that either, he was.
- 51:10Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I was surprised. Wow, Okay, the she had
- 51:18Speaker 3: three miscarriages, which was very you know, sad to hear. Obviously,
- 51:23Speaker 3: she desperately wanted a family. We saw that in the interviews,
- 51:26Speaker 3: and you know, she had a family through all the
- 51:30Speaker 3: children that were in her life, through her friends and
- 51:34Speaker 3: dear friends, and was an incredible you know woman and
- 51:38Speaker 3: like I don't know, godmother too many children.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Yeah, she was busy, okay, simplessed. I wonder why she never,
- 51:48Speaker 1: like if she really wanted kids. So I was confused
- 51:52Speaker 1: why she didn't decide to adopt.
- 51:56Speaker 3: Well, a lot of people you know, do that where
- 51:58Speaker 3: they it's just not they want to have their her
- 52:00Speaker 3: own child, and they just.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I get, I mean, I get that. I guess
- 52:04Speaker 1: I just think, like I was just because I remember
- 52:08Speaker 1: reading something a while ago where she had thought about adopting.
- 52:13Speaker 1: It was like in a People magazine, but then she
- 52:16Speaker 1: just never did. So I was just like, I wonder
- 52:18Speaker 1: what happened with that.
- 52:19Speaker 3: Maybe she was just too heartbroken at that point and
- 52:22Speaker 3: just felt like she couldn't do it, you know. And
- 52:25Speaker 3: it's also so interesting because you know now for women,
- 52:29Speaker 3: it's a lot more accessible to freeze your eggs and
- 52:33Speaker 3: with IVF and all that stuff, you can do this
- 52:35Speaker 3: type of thing, and that just wasn't available to her
- 52:37Speaker 3: because she probably would have done that. She probably would
- 52:40Speaker 3: have just done IVF and had a surrogate and done
- 52:43Speaker 3: all that stuff.
- 52:44Speaker 1: You know, yeah, yeah, you know.
- 52:47Speaker 2: And the other thing.
- 52:47Speaker 3: When she did go to rehab the first time around,
- 52:50Speaker 3: it was for alcohol and volume, and she says in
- 52:54Speaker 3: a lot of these interviews that she was glad she
- 52:56Speaker 3: went through it so she could prepare for the rest
- 52:59Speaker 3: of her life, you know how difficult it would.
- 53:01Speaker 2: Be, and it was.
- 53:04Speaker 3: It was very interesting to hear be honest about it,
- 53:06Speaker 3: like she's like, I didn't feel like I had a
- 53:08Speaker 3: drug problem, but I started to feel a little bit
- 53:09Speaker 3: weird inside.
- 53:10Speaker 2: I never fell down.
- 53:11Speaker 3: I never missed work, and but you know your show,
- 53:16Speaker 3: you're probably showing up for work and people are maybe noticing,
- 53:19Speaker 3: like what's happening. But it was never her intention, obviously,
- 53:24Speaker 3: but her not hiding it from the public, like we
- 53:26Speaker 3: had mentioned before, was really brave and extremely honest, and
- 53:30Speaker 3: I really appreciated hearing that again. And I wonder what
- 53:34Speaker 3: her journey has been with that because obviously she's not
- 53:37Speaker 3: gonna we're not going to know maybe every single time
- 53:39Speaker 3: she goes into rehab or she was in rehab ten
- 53:43Speaker 3: years ago, so yeah, it was twenty fifteen. Yeah, she
- 53:46Speaker 3: was in rehab in twenty fifteen. Yeah, And wasn't that
- 53:49Speaker 3: kind of around the David Guest era No no, no, no, David,
- 53:53Speaker 3: he was like two thousand and nine.
- 53:54Speaker 2: Yeah, he was like twenty ten.
- 53:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I mean she you know, who knows, but
- 54:01Speaker 1: like she we knew about that, but we only knew
- 54:04Speaker 1: about that because like it leaked, So maybe there's been
- 54:08Speaker 1: other times that didn't. But like, good for her, and
- 54:12Speaker 1: who gives a shit in terms of like just do it?
- 54:15Speaker 1: Who cares? She doesn't. I mean she, I know, she
- 54:19Speaker 1: cares about what people think, but like good for her
- 54:22Speaker 1: for not caring that we will think less of her.
- 54:26Speaker 1: I certainly don't, I think.
- 54:27Speaker 3: A loosely not. I mean, yeah, it's commendable. I mean
- 54:33Speaker 3: you just you look at her life, and you know,
- 54:36Speaker 3: when you look at like the whole Studio fifty four thing,
- 54:39Speaker 3: that just looks like horrific to me.
- 54:41Speaker 2: I just would not want to have to al my.
- 54:43Speaker 1: Going to do with that I would never want to
- 54:47Speaker 1: go there.
- 54:47Speaker 3: Oh, I didn't know where you were going to go
- 54:49Speaker 3: with that. I was gonna say, I wouldn't think you would,
- 54:51Speaker 3: but then I wasn't sure when you were like, oh
- 54:53Speaker 3: my god, I thought you're gonna be like, oh my god.
- 54:55Speaker 3: I would love to live during that era.
- 54:57Speaker 1: I mean, I would love to live during that era.
- 55:00Speaker 1: But I would also like to be asleep by ten
- 55:03Speaker 1: pm in that era, because I would be I would
- 55:08Speaker 1: have not been able to sustain that. I don't think
- 55:13Speaker 1: it was it also just like.
- 55:16Speaker 2: It looks so disgusting.
- 55:18Speaker 1: It's not it does not look fun. It looks like
- 55:21Speaker 1: all the things I avoid.
- 55:22Speaker 3: I know, it's so romanticized, and so I don't know.
- 55:27Speaker 3: I think there's a lot of people that think they
- 55:29Speaker 3: would want to be a part of that.
- 55:32Speaker 1: But yeah, just not drone drone shots of it being
- 55:36Speaker 1: filmed on a back lot in some nostalgic way, that's
- 55:40Speaker 1: all I want. And then old GREENNY film of it,
- 55:42Speaker 1: that's all I want. I just want to see that,
- 55:44Speaker 1: and I want to see the faces of the people
- 55:46Speaker 1: that are in there. That's it. I never want to
- 55:49Speaker 1: be there, never.
- 55:51Speaker 2: Never.
- 55:52Speaker 3: I also did not realize that Jack Haley Junior was
- 55:56Speaker 3: the son of the tin man Jack Hayley Jack Haley what, yes,
- 56:01Speaker 3: well Jack's.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Dad j that's yeah, and his dad's Jack Haley. Yeah.
- 56:07Speaker 3: I didn't know, but I didn't know. I didn't I
- 56:09Speaker 3: never had Jack Haley's name in my brain and I
- 56:13Speaker 3: never knew that she was with Jack Haley Junior.
- 56:16Speaker 1: Was it in your heart? Oh?
- 56:19Speaker 2: Baby?
- 56:19Speaker 3: Wow, the first DJ airhorn we've done during this whole thing.
- 56:24Speaker 2: I'm surprised.
- 56:26Speaker 3: And then also, uh engaged to Daisi Arnez.
- 56:31Speaker 2: Didn't know that?
- 56:32Speaker 1: Yeah, was Arnez Junior. I didn't even look that up.
- 56:37Speaker 1: I meant to look that up.
- 56:38Speaker 2: How could it have been?
- 56:39Speaker 1: Wait?
- 56:40Speaker 3: Oh god, no, Look I wrote down the information, and
- 56:44Speaker 3: I wrote down Junior for Jack Haley. I didn't write
- 56:48Speaker 3: down Junior for Dozi.
- 56:50Speaker 1: Rnz Deisi Arnez.
- 56:55Speaker 3: And lies and oh it was Daisi Arnez Junior. You
- 57:00Speaker 3: know your shit, don't you.
- 57:02Speaker 1: When she said that, I was like, if there's no
- 57:05Speaker 1: way it wasn't Junior. And then I was like, wait,
- 57:09Speaker 1: what if it wasn't.
- 57:10Speaker 2: Yeah, what am I thinking? Yeah?
- 57:11Speaker 3: I don't know what I was thinking.
- 57:13Speaker 1: I mean, it's not that crazy. She was with Peter
- 57:15Speaker 1: Sellers and a bunch of like people.
- 57:19Speaker 3: I was like, whoa, seriously, yeah, Desi Ernez Junior, Okay,
- 57:24Speaker 3: and then yeah, Peter Seller slew my mind.
- 57:26Speaker 2: Yeah that was nice. That was nice to see. I
- 57:29Speaker 2: love that for her. I was excited.
- 57:31Speaker 3: I always had a crush on him because I was, yeah,
- 57:34Speaker 3: I was doing ballet when I was young, and you know,
- 57:37Speaker 3: he was just like such an icon And okay, well
- 57:41Speaker 3: that was great. Is there anything that we haven't covered
- 57:46Speaker 3: from just this documentary? I mean I'm not talking about
- 57:50Speaker 3: her entire life or Judy Garland's life, were just covering this.
- 57:53Speaker 1: I thought I thought that the psychiatrists or psychologists, the
- 57:58Speaker 1: doctor Ann Pelag, Ryan Greena or whatever that was. I
- 58:02Speaker 1: thought it was unnecessary. She said nothing. She was just
- 58:06Speaker 1: like when you were born of people that are stars
- 58:12Speaker 1: that have drug problems. I was like, why are we
- 58:14Speaker 1: wasting our time with this? Tell me about ben verion lies?
- 58:18Speaker 1: Like I wanted more juice. I didn't need like something
- 58:23Speaker 1: of no consequence coming from this. I know this doctor like,
- 58:27Speaker 1: can we move on? Yeah?
- 58:28Speaker 3: I think they wanted to probably cover you know, have
- 58:31Speaker 3: a nice assortment of talking heads to speak on these things.
- 58:35Speaker 2: But I completely agree with you.
- 58:38Speaker 3: It took away from the closeness and the intimacy of
- 58:44Speaker 3: this documentary because there were so many people that were
- 58:47Speaker 3: actually in her life that know her and have known
- 58:50Speaker 3: her this whole time, and then you had this person
- 58:52Speaker 3: who was speaking very clinically and sterily about a person.
- 58:58Speaker 1: Broadly and so broadly like I could have given that analysis.
- 59:02Speaker 1: Like I just was like, what is this? You know
- 59:05Speaker 1: what I mean? It was just like so basic basic.
- 59:08Speaker 1: She did that doctor did a fine job, she looked great.
- 59:12Speaker 1: I'm not It's not about her. It was just about
- 59:14Speaker 1: that choice.
- 59:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it just was like, what is this?
- 59:18Speaker 1: What is it?
- 59:18Speaker 2: What as it?
- 59:20Speaker 1: Why? Why are we talking about this? Why aren't we
- 59:22Speaker 1: talking about those four Warhols on the wall?
- 59:24Speaker 3: Okay, I do want to talk about that. That was amazing.
- 59:28Speaker 3: We landed on that shot for such a long time.
- 59:30Speaker 3: Go ahead, Vincent.
- 59:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a Vincent Eliza, Eliza and Judy right.
- 59:34Speaker 2: Vincent Eliza Eliza Judy.
- 59:36Speaker 1: Wows were amazing. And I was like, did David guests
- 59:40Speaker 1: take those? And then she get those back? Because remember
- 59:45Speaker 1: they said that he took everything out of her place anyway,
- 59:50Speaker 1: I am. I had a question.
- 59:51Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of questions. But that looks like they're back. Yeah,
- 59:56Speaker 3: but I'm like, who dusts those? Like who who is
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: allowed to even touch those? And I'm thinking Liza has
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: to be touched.
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: She's like, I'm just gonna get a little bit up here,
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: give me my swiffer.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: You know, because like who can you trust?
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: Liza cannot be touching those, She's gonna fall into them.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: She cannot do that. I know. Maybe Darren Chris can
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: handle it, but well, we'll figure it out. But Liza,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: you just stay there and try to call me on
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: the iPad.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: On the iPad, Lorna Luft looks great, you know.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I again, I was like, where's Joe Luft, like
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: the brother.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: Yeah, let's see here, Joey Luft.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: He is.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: He's seventy years old.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I know he's around.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: Yeah, he's around. Wonder why.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. And he's like, they're like all friendly.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: I thought, so ask your guy about that, Okay, yeah,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: because I tried to. I that was actually one of
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: the first things I googled when this was done, because
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: I was like, wait, they're actually all friendly, Like where
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: was he?
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: He might be one of those people that like, oh no,
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: he is an actor and a singer. I was gonna say,
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: maybe he just likes to not be in the limelight
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: and let you.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: Know, yeah, weird.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Maybe he has some problems.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: And then Christina Manelli, Vincent's other daughter, thought, but maybe
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: it was just like we're just gonna have one sibling.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: Maybe that was it, but who knows.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: All right, well, that's that's all we have time for
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: what a spectacular could could learn about her all day,
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: all night, and with Emily, with your knowledge of you know,
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: Hollywood's Yesteryear, you know it, just it really it spanned
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: such a large amount of film and actor.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Sixty percent of what I said isn't right. It's not correct,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: it's not factual. Please google everything I've said, double check.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: I'm not even sure if her mom is Judy Darling.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: And that's why I like, I love talking to you
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: about this stuff because you know so much, and I
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: always want to do more of this kind of thing
