- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey everyone, welcome to the Reach Church Podcast. This is
- 0:09Speaker 1: Dave Snyder, pastor here at Reach Church. Each week we
- 0:13Speaker 1: share messages from our Sunday gatherings to help you discover
- 0:16Speaker 1: the love of God, be empowered for purpose, and impact
- 0:20Speaker 1: your world. We pray this message encourages you and helps
- 0:24Speaker 1: you grow in your walk with Jesus. Let's get into
- 0:27Speaker 1: today's message. This morning we're starting our At The Movies
- 0:32Speaker 1: series and, um, I'm excited about this. I think this
- 0:36Speaker 1: is such a fun way to bring out the Word
- 0:39Speaker 1: of God and what the Word of God is speaking
- 0:41Speaker 1: to us. And what we're going to do this morning,
- 0:44Speaker 1: we're going to watch a clip, just a short clip.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We're not watching a whole movie. Don't think you came
- 0:48Speaker 1: to church for movie time. Maybe some of you would
- 0:50Speaker 1: prefer that, but we're not going to do that this morning.
- 0:53Speaker 1: We're going to watch a short clip, and then the
- 0:56Speaker 1: clip is going to ask us a question. The clip
- 0:59Speaker 1: is going to ask us a question that we're going
- 1:01Speaker 1: to talk about, and what we're.
- 1:04Speaker 2: In the word of God.
- 1:06Speaker 1: But what we're doing, it's similar to how Jesus taught.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I mean, you saw that on the screen. It says
- 1:10Speaker 1: in Matthew chapter 13, Jesus always used, I like that word,
- 1:15Speaker 1: he always used stories and illustrations. We call them parables
- 1:20Speaker 1: like these when he spoke to the crowds. In fact,
- 1:21Speaker 1: he never spoke without using such parables. And this fulfilled
- 1:26Speaker 1: what was spoken through the prophets. I'll speak to you
- 1:29Speaker 1: in parables and I'll explain things hidden since the creation
- 1:33Speaker 1: of the world.
- 1:34Speaker 2: So Jesus taught with stories.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Why did he do that? It makes us wonder, like, God,
- 1:39Speaker 1: why did you do that? Why did you choose to,
- 1:41Speaker 1: why didn't you just speak plainly? No, he spoke in stories.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And I think one of the reasons, at least, is
- 1:46Speaker 1: because God wired your brain for stories, right?
- 1:50Speaker 2: You remember stories.
- 1:51Speaker 1: You can remember right now, most of you, if you've
- 1:54Speaker 1: read the story of the Good Samaritan, you can rattle
- 1:58Speaker 1: off that story. You remember the story because your brain
- 2:02Speaker 1: is wired for that. You know, you could rattle off
- 2:05Speaker 1: the story of the parable of the sower. A man
- 2:07Speaker 1: went out to sow seed and some fell here and
- 2:09Speaker 1: some fell there. You may not remember all the details,
- 2:11Speaker 1: but you got the gist of the story because that's
- 2:14Speaker 1: how God made you.
- 2:15Speaker 2: And so what we're going to do this morning is
- 2:18Speaker 2: use that.
- 2:19Speaker 1: And I think this is something, what I like about this,
- 2:22Speaker 1: I think this is something that's going to stick with you.
- 2:25Speaker 1: You're going to be on Friday. Still remembering, oh yeah,
- 2:29Speaker 1: I remember we did. I remember that.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Message because this is something that's going to stick with you.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And I think it's an important, what we're talking about
- 2:35Speaker 1: today is an important topic for your life.
- 2:38Speaker 2: So we'll get into that. I can hear the popcorn bags.
- 2:40Speaker 2: That's okay. In a minute, I want to hear the Bibles, right?
- 2:43Speaker 2: But that right now is popcorn and it's great.
- 2:45Speaker 1: So we're going to start with a movie that the kids,
- 2:49Speaker 1: if there's some kids in the room, you've seen this
- 2:51Speaker 1: movie probably. Maybe not the parents unless you got dragged
- 2:55Speaker 1: to the movie. But this is a kid's movie that
- 2:59Speaker 1: God's going to speak to you through today. Can you
- 3:01Speaker 1: believe it? This is a movie called Inside Out number two.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And what we're going to do is just watch three
- 3:08Speaker 1: minutes of this movie. And let me set it up
- 3:11Speaker 1: in case you haven't seen this movie before. This is
- 3:14Speaker 1: the you're going to see characters. that are living inside
- 3:18Speaker 1: of this young girl's brain, right? And the characters represent
- 3:22Speaker 1: emotions that she has, and she's trying to learn how
- 3:25Speaker 1: to deal with her emotions, learning how to manage her
- 3:29Speaker 1: emotions and all this different stuff. But it's kind of
- 3:32Speaker 1: like a play taking place inside of her head. And
- 3:36Speaker 1: so I want you to check out this clip. I
- 3:39Speaker 1: don't know if you can relate to that. You've ever
- 3:42Speaker 1: felt like the wrong thing has taken control of your life.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Right?
- 3:46Speaker 1: You ever had a situation like that? I know if
- 3:48Speaker 1: you have kids, the answer is yes. Because I thought
- 3:52Speaker 1: I was a very patient, just level person. Nothing really
- 3:57Speaker 1: got me upset until I had a teenager. And I
- 4:00Speaker 1: found out anger wants to sit in my control seat
- 4:05Speaker 1: all the time.
- 4:05Speaker 2: And the little fires coming out of his head.
- 4:08Speaker 1: He's just smashing the buttons. And sometimes in our lives,
- 4:13Speaker 1: the wrong thing wants to take over. It's not wrong
- 4:17Speaker 1: to have emotions. It's not wrong to be angry. Jesus
- 4:19Speaker 1: was angry. Jesus had sorrow. Jesus expressed emotions. The wrong
- 4:24Speaker 1: thing is when it sits down in the chair and
- 4:28Speaker 1: it takes over. And if you let a little bit
- 4:32Speaker 1: of fear come in, fear will take over. And fear
- 4:36Speaker 1: will grow into anxiety or depression and all these other things.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And they sit down and they don't get up on
- 4:43Speaker 1: their own. And so here's the question. Who is seated
- 4:50Speaker 1: in the control room in your life? Who's seated at
- 4:54Speaker 1: the controls? Because the control room of your life, it
- 4:58Speaker 1: doesn't get taken overnight, right? It gets taken one thought
- 5:03Speaker 1: at a time. It starts with a thought, doesn't it?
- 5:06Speaker 2: And it grows. Again, it doesn't.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Happen overnight, but as we begin to entertain those thoughts,
- 5:11Speaker 1: we entertain those emotions and those things. And they just,
- 5:14Speaker 1: the wrong thing takes the control.
- 5:16Speaker 2: So the question is who's in.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Control and how do you get the right, how do
- 5:20Speaker 1: you get the right person seated in the right place?
- 5:24Speaker 1: How do you get the right thing in the driver's seat?
- 5:26Speaker 1: So I want to talk about this this morning. And,
- 5:28Speaker 1: and I, what I love is that God's word answers
- 5:31Speaker 1: every question that could come up.
- 5:34Speaker 2: In our lives.
- 5:35Speaker 1: We've just got to look into his word and I
- 5:38Speaker 1: want you to take your Bibles. Now you can, you can,
- 5:40Speaker 1: if you're still eating your popcorn, that's okay. Just set
- 5:42Speaker 1: it to the side for a minute. grab your bibles
- 5:45Speaker 1: or your phone i want you to go to colossians
- 5:47Speaker 1: chapter three and we're going to look at what god
- 5:55Speaker 1: says because he gives you a roadmap for how to
- 5:59Speaker 1: put him in control in your life if you've ever
- 6:02Speaker 1: wondered how do i lord you know you get born
- 6:05Speaker 1: again but you still struggle right you're born again you
- 6:08Speaker 1: love god but you're still struggling with some of the
- 6:11Speaker 1: same stuff the Same things keep coming out of your life.
- 6:15Speaker 1: And you're like, I thought I was a new person.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Why is this good fruit not coming out? Why am
- 6:20Speaker 1: I having so much bad things still coming out of
- 6:22Speaker 1: my life? I've still got the anger. I've still got
- 6:24Speaker 1: the lust. I've still got the depression. Why am I
- 6:28Speaker 1: having and experiencing these things? I've got the wrong thing
- 6:31Speaker 1: in the driver's seat. See, I got to put Jesus
- 6:34Speaker 1: in the driver's seat. I want you to look at
- 6:36Speaker 1: what it says. Let's start at verse one. So if
- 6:41Speaker 1: you've been raised Now, let me just stop there for
- 6:46Speaker 1: a second because some people don't know they've been raised.
- 6:50Speaker 1: You're still living like you ain't been raised. You've been
- 6:53Speaker 1: living like you are the old man, but Paul says.
- 6:57Speaker 2: You've been raised.
- 6:58Speaker 1: When you were born again, when you came to know Jesus,
- 7:01Speaker 1: you were raised with Christ. So since you've been raised,
- 7:05Speaker 1: seek the things that are above where Christ is seated
- 7:09Speaker 1: at the right hand of God and.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Set your minds... on things above.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Set your minds on things above where Christ is seated
- 7:20Speaker 1: at the right hand of God. Oh, sorry, not on
- 7:23Speaker 1: earthly things, for you died and your life is hidden
- 7:27Speaker 1: with Christ and God. When Christ who is your life appears,
- 7:29Speaker 1: then you will also appear with him in glory. So
- 7:32Speaker 1: here's the question, how do I keep the wrong things
- 7:37Speaker 1: out of the driver's seat? So he tells you where
- 7:39Speaker 1: to start here. Go back to that first verse. He
- 7:41Speaker 1: tells you where to start. He says, Since you've been raised.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Since you've been raised. He starts with your position. You've
- 7:51Speaker 1: got to understand, church, who you are in Christ Jesus.
- 7:55Speaker 1: You've got to understand what it means to be born again.
- 7:58Speaker 1: That when you're born again, you become a brand new person.
- 8:01Speaker 1: You are a child of God. You know, you're not
- 8:05Speaker 1: some beggar. I've heard some of these songs on the radio.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Have you heard some of these songs? I'm just a
- 8:10Speaker 1: beggar in the presence of the king.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Shut up.
- 8:14Speaker 1: That's not what the Word of God says. The word
- 8:17Speaker 1: of God says when you are born again, you are
- 8:20Speaker 1: a child of God. And in fact, you've been raised
- 8:24Speaker 1: with Christ. So I'm not waiting on some moment like
- 8:28Speaker 1: with Jesus. Remember the story of Lazarus we read not
- 8:31Speaker 1: too long ago? Jesus said, I am the resurrection and
- 8:35Speaker 1: the life. He did not say, I will be the resurrection.
- 8:38Speaker 1: He is today the resurrection and the life. You're not
- 8:41Speaker 1: waiting for some day to be raised. You've already been raised.
- 8:44Speaker 1: So you can start living like you've been raised. Even
- 8:46Speaker 1: though you haven't necessarily experienced it yet, you can live
- 8:50Speaker 1: like it. Because on the inside, you are a brand
- 8:53Speaker 1: new person. Does that make sense to you today? We
- 8:57Speaker 1: had this college ministry for many years. We had this
- 9:01Speaker 1: young guy that came into prayer one morning. We stood
- 9:04Speaker 1: right over here. We were having a little prayer circle
- 9:07Speaker 1: up in the front. And I looked down at his shoes,
- 9:10Speaker 1: and he had the words, sinners. written on his shoes.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I said, where did you get those shoes? He said,
- 9:15Speaker 1: I bought those.
- 9:17Speaker 2: From a Christian website.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I said, you better return them because there's nothing Christian
- 9:23Speaker 1: about them. He said, what do you mean? He said,
- 9:26Speaker 1: I'm just a sinner who's been saved by grace. I said,
- 9:31Speaker 1: shut up. That's not in the Bible. You're not some
- 9:35Speaker 1: old sinner who's been saved by grace. Yes, you've been saved. Yes,
- 9:38Speaker 1: you used to be a sinner, but that man died.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I'm no longer who I used to be. I've been
- 9:44Speaker 1: raised with Christ Jesus. That means the old sinful man
- 9:48Speaker 1: is dead. Let's leave him in the ground. Stop trying
- 9:51Speaker 1: to resurrect him all the time and talk about how
- 9:53Speaker 1: bad you are. And see, this young man, he struggled.
- 9:57Speaker 1: He struggled for the whole time I knew him. He
- 9:59Speaker 1: struggled with some terrible stuff in his life, with some
- 10:02Speaker 1: terrible sin in his life. He never could break free
- 10:05Speaker 1: of it the times that I knew him. I pray
- 10:06Speaker 1: he's good now. But the time that I knew him,
- 10:09Speaker 1: he struggled because he still saw himself as an old man.
- 10:14Speaker 1: who's trying to be good enough, who's trying to live
- 10:17Speaker 1: good enough. See, he's got the wrong thing in the
- 10:19Speaker 1: driver's seat of his heart. He's got the wrong thing
- 10:22Speaker 1: in his mind controlling. You get the wrong thing up
- 10:25Speaker 1: here and it will control your life. So you've got
- 10:29Speaker 1: to get the right thing. See, if you don't understand that,
- 10:32Speaker 1: you're going to live your life from a place of defeat,
- 10:36Speaker 1: trying to get a little bit better instead of living from.
- 10:39Speaker 2: The victory that Jesus has paid for. Amen.
- 10:45Speaker 1: So understand your position. See, the problem is sometimes we
- 10:49Speaker 1: don't feel that way, right? I don't feel like I'm
- 10:53Speaker 1: a new man. I still feel like I'm an old man.
- 10:55Speaker 1: I still feel like I still have the same struggles,
- 10:58Speaker 1: the old man. So I must be an old man
- 11:01Speaker 1: that's just, I'm waiting on God to do something in
- 11:04Speaker 1: the future. See, because I haven't understood my position. I
- 11:09Speaker 1: haven't understood who I am in Christ Jesus. And I
- 11:12Speaker 1: know that might be a little cute movie, but I
- 11:15Speaker 1: think it's asking one of the most important questions for
- 11:18Speaker 1: your life today. Who's in the driver's seat? Who's in
- 11:21Speaker 1: your driver's seat? So he talks about your position. Can
- 11:25Speaker 1: you put those verses back up there again? Verse one,
- 11:30Speaker 1: you've been raised. So then he says, because you're raised
- 11:36Speaker 1: with Christ, you should start seeking things that are above.
- 11:43Speaker 2: No, just stay.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Go back to verse 1. Seek the things, I don't
- 11:47Speaker 1: know if that one changed, that one changed. Seek the
- 11:49Speaker 1: things that are above, where Christ is seated at the
- 11:56Speaker 1: right hand of God. You know what that tells me?
- 12:00Speaker 1: There's a place of authority where, like kind of Ozzie
- 12:04Speaker 1: alluded to this morning, where it's unfazed by what's happening above.
- 12:09Speaker 1: on this earth as far as the struggles and the
- 12:11Speaker 1: wars and the conflicts and the worry and the troubles
- 12:15Speaker 1: of life and the anxiety, it's unfazed. Christ is seated
- 12:20Speaker 1: at the right hand of God. And I've been raised
- 12:25Speaker 1: with Christ, so I need to put my mind, seek,
- 12:29Speaker 1: I need to seek, we'll get to the mind in
- 12:31Speaker 1: a minute, I need to seek the things.
- 12:34Speaker 2: That are above. So that's what I'm chasing after. So
- 12:40Speaker 2: here's another question. What am I chasing after? What are
- 12:42Speaker 2: you chasing after in your life? That's what you're pursuing, right?
- 12:49Speaker 1: The Bible tells us what to seek first. Seek first
- 12:54Speaker 1: the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Everything else is
- 13:02Speaker 1: taken care of if you get the right thing in
- 13:04Speaker 1: front of you. If you get your priorities right, if
- 13:08Speaker 1: you seek the right thing, but see this question, what
- 13:10Speaker 1: am I chasing after? It's sort of like peeking into
- 13:13Speaker 1: the control room of your heart. If I want to
- 13:16Speaker 1: know who's seated, I can look in there by saying,
- 13:20Speaker 1: what are you chasing after?
- 13:22Speaker 2: Because that's where your life is headed.
- 13:25Speaker 1: What are you chasing after? Some people chase after different things.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Maybe we could boil it down to success. I want
- 13:35Speaker 1: to be successful in my job, in my life, in
- 13:38Speaker 1: my whatever.
- 13:39Speaker 2: It might be.
- 13:41Speaker 1: And to a degree, success is okay. I want to
- 13:43Speaker 1: be successful. But who defines what success is? See, if
- 13:48Speaker 1: I'm chasing after what somebody else has told me success is,
- 13:52Speaker 1: that's wrong. I got to seek first the kingdom of God.
- 13:55Speaker 1: I want to be a successful father. But who defines
- 13:59Speaker 1: what that is? See, if I've got the wrong thing
- 14:03Speaker 1: in front of me, I'll chase the wrong thing, but
- 14:05Speaker 1: if I keep the right thing in front of me,
- 14:08Speaker 1: I'll live the right way. My life's going to head
- 14:11Speaker 1: the right direction. I want to be a successful pastor,
- 14:14Speaker 1: but what does that mean? Does that mean the church
- 14:16Speaker 1: is full and I tell you all the nice things
- 14:18Speaker 1: that you want to hear all the time? Because I
- 14:19Speaker 1: could fill up a church telling you how great you
- 14:22Speaker 1: are all the time, that you never do anything wrong,
- 14:24Speaker 1: that you're perfect, but that's not what this word says.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Sometimes this word is good for correction. This word is
- 14:31Speaker 1: good for rebuke. There's times where the word has to
- 14:33Speaker 1: rebuke us. And if we don't hear it, now listen,
- 14:36Speaker 1: that might empty out a church, but I want to
- 14:37Speaker 1: be successful, not by what your standards are, but what
- 14:41Speaker 1: God's standards are, right? Some people chase after things like approval.
- 14:48Speaker 1: You know, I want to seek approval. I want people
- 14:53Speaker 1: to think I'm doing a good thing or whatever, but listen,
- 14:56Speaker 1: I'm working for his well-done, not man's well-done. And that's
- 15:01Speaker 1: what we have to get in our lives, get the
- 15:02Speaker 1: right thing in front of you. He told me, seek
- 15:05Speaker 1: what's above. So I have to ask myself, and you've
- 15:09Speaker 1: got to ask yourself, what am I pursuing? What am
- 15:13Speaker 1: I chasing after? Because here's the thing, your pursuit will
- 15:18Speaker 1: determine your direction. It's like a compass for your heart.
- 15:23Speaker 1: It will determine your direction. Whatever you're chasing after, your
- 15:27Speaker 1: life is going to go that way. You know, it's
- 15:29Speaker 1: like a carrot in front of your nose, and you're
- 15:31Speaker 1: just going to, You're going to walk towards whatever you're
- 15:34Speaker 1: chasing in life. So let me ask, I'm going to
- 15:38Speaker 1: ask you a hard question. If someone watched your calendar
- 15:41Speaker 1: for six months, what would they say you're chasing after?
- 15:46Speaker 1: Some of you all have those calendars you put up
- 15:49Speaker 1: in your house and it's full of everything.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Mine's full of everything, right?
- 15:56Speaker 1: And you got the sports and you got the meetings
- 16:00Speaker 1: and you got the recitals, and you've got all these things.
- 16:03Speaker 1: What are you chasing after? What's your calendar look like?
- 16:07Speaker 1: Let me ask another question. If we could look at
- 16:09Speaker 1: your bank account for the next six months, that would
- 16:13Speaker 1: tell us what you're chasing after.
- 16:16Speaker 2: What do you value? What kind of things do you
- 16:19Speaker 2: put first? So he says, seek first.
- 16:23Speaker 1: The kingdom of God. And then the next part, now
- 16:27Speaker 1: you can go to verse two. The next part, he
- 16:28Speaker 1: moves into what you put your minds on. So he says,
- 16:32Speaker 1: set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
- 16:37Speaker 1: So get your direction right, get your position right, but
- 16:40Speaker 1: you also got to get your mind right. And I
- 16:43Speaker 1: think some of us, that's where we got some trouble
- 16:44Speaker 1: because we got our minds wrong. We got our minds
- 16:47Speaker 1: on the wrong things. We're thinking about the wrong things.
- 16:50Speaker 1: We live, you know, somebody called the mind a battlefield.
- 16:54Speaker 1: And I think that's true because there's so many competing
- 16:57Speaker 1: thoughts in this mindset that are competing for your attention.
- 17:02Speaker 2: It wants your attention. It wants you to look.
- 17:05Speaker 1: It's like pop-ups on your screen that they pop up.
- 17:09Speaker 1: You go to a website and something else pops up.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Give me your attention over here. Give me your attention.
- 17:14Speaker 1: And it's just so many things competing to get your mind.
- 17:20Speaker 1: And I want to tell you, the Word of God says,
- 17:22Speaker 1: as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Right?
- 17:28Speaker 2: So here.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Let's say it this way. I can stand up here
- 17:31Speaker 1: and say some things today. I could start talking about
- 17:35Speaker 1: some statistics... of things that could happen to you. And
- 17:39Speaker 1: for some of you, you start getting afraid. Because you say, ooh,
- 17:43Speaker 1: that could happen to me. Statistically speaking, this could happen.
- 17:47Speaker 1: And I could start sharing some things with you... and
- 17:50Speaker 1: it'll start bringing up a little bit of fear in
- 17:52Speaker 1: your heart. Why would that happen? Because you're getting your
- 17:55Speaker 1: mind on it. And when you get your mind on something...
- 17:59Speaker 1: it sits down in your heart and starts giving direction
- 18:03Speaker 1: to your life. So it starts by thinking the wrong things.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I love what we saw in that clip, how anxiety
- 18:11Speaker 1: came in and took over, right? And bottled up everything
- 18:15Speaker 1: else and set them off somewhere else and it was
- 18:18Speaker 1: going to take over because that's exactly what happens in
- 18:21Speaker 1: people's lives.
- 18:22Speaker 2: You let fear come in.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Everything else goes out the door and fear is in
- 18:28Speaker 1: control in your mind. Anxiety comes in and now anxiety
- 18:32Speaker 1: is in control in your mind.
- 18:35Speaker 2: And here's the problem. We got the wrong things seated.
- 18:39Speaker 1: And what happens in our heads is we play out
- 18:42Speaker 1: this scene of what if. We saw that in the video.
- 18:46Speaker 1: What if this could happen or that could happen? And
- 18:49Speaker 1: the thing is about what if. What if always assumes
- 18:52Speaker 1: God's not involved. What if, what if is always a
- 18:57Speaker 1: picture of what if without God, right? Have you ever
- 19:02Speaker 1: had a great what if in your head? What if,
- 19:05Speaker 1: what if I win the lottery or something? You probably
- 19:07Speaker 1: don't play the lottery. I don't play the lottery. I'm not,
- 19:09Speaker 1: but what if something really good happened to me? What if,
- 19:12Speaker 1: what if I, what if, what if this great thing
- 19:14Speaker 1: happened at work and I get a promotion and this,
- 19:16Speaker 1: or this, this great thing, usually.
- 19:18Speaker 2: We don't play out the great what ifs. It goes
- 19:21Speaker 2: the other way, doesn't it?
- 19:23Speaker 1: Why is our natural tendency to always go towards the
- 19:27Speaker 1: what if something bad happens?
- 19:29Speaker 2: But that's what we do, right?
- 19:31Speaker 1: You have kids and you don't sit up at night
- 19:34Speaker 1: and say, oh, I wonder what if some great thing
- 19:37Speaker 1: is going to happen to them tomorrow while they're off
- 19:39Speaker 1: doing this thing. No, it's what if they're in the hospital?
- 19:43Speaker 1: What if, oh my gosh, what if this happens to them?
- 19:47Speaker 1: What if somebody picks on little Johnny and kindergarten and
- 19:51Speaker 1: he just never recovers and all these thoughts come into
- 19:53Speaker 1: our heads what if right and it plays out and
- 19:57Speaker 1: we start thinking about all the bad things that could
- 19:59Speaker 1: happen but see here's the thing what if assumes god's
- 20:03Speaker 1: not involved you know sometimes we think like what if
- 20:05Speaker 1: what if something bad happened but what about psalm 91.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Where God says he will protect you and he'll keep you.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Well, what if I'm struggling with my finances and I
- 20:18Speaker 1: feel like I'm all alone here? Well, what about the
- 20:21Speaker 1: word of God where he says, I am Jehovah Jireh,
- 20:25Speaker 1: your provider. But see, what if fear forgets about God
- 20:30Speaker 1: being involved? You know, anxiety will imagine a future ignoring
- 20:36Speaker 1: the faithfulness of God. So what I have to do
- 20:39Speaker 1: is get the right person in the driver's seat. Let
- 20:43Speaker 1: me ask this. How do those thoughts get there? I wonder,
- 20:50Speaker 1: how do those thoughts come into our head, those what ifs?
- 20:53Speaker 1: What if this and what if that? It seems like
- 20:55Speaker 1: they just come in, doesn't it? But I want to
- 20:57Speaker 1: propose something to you. What if they come into your
- 21:01Speaker 1: life because of what you're allowing into your life?
- 21:06Speaker 2: What if What you're scrolling.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Through on your phone is causing you to have some
- 21:13Speaker 1: what-if kind of thoughts. What if the things you're watching
- 21:20Speaker 1: on TV are causing you to.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Have what-if thoughts?
- 21:25Speaker 1: Maybe the 24-hour news cycle isn't the most healthy thing
- 21:30Speaker 1: for you.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I don't know who I'm talking to this morning.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Maybe your social media comparison is not the most healthy
- 21:41Speaker 1: thing for your mind to be feeding on. Because, see,
- 21:46Speaker 1: we become what we consume. Let me say it again
- 21:51Speaker 1: because I don't think you caught it. We become the
- 21:53Speaker 1: things that we consume.
- 21:55Speaker 2: You are, let's say it this way, you are what
- 21:58Speaker 2: you eat. Right?
- 22:00Speaker 1: I don't know why I always feel so tired. Well,
- 22:03Speaker 1: maybe stop eating sugar all the time, right? You are
- 22:08Speaker 1: What you eat. Why am I always so fearful? You
- 22:10Speaker 1: are what you eat. You become what you consume. Let
- 22:17Speaker 1: me say it this way. Whatever has your attention will.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Have access to your control room.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Whatever you give your attention to, you're giving access. You're saying, here,
- 22:26Speaker 1: sit down in the seat. And see, some people are
- 22:28Speaker 1: trying to correct things in their lives. They're trying to
- 22:32Speaker 1: change their habits. Well, I guess I just need to
- 22:35Speaker 1: be a little bit more disciplined. I need a little
- 22:37Speaker 1: bit more willpower.
- 22:38Speaker 2: No, what you need is to get the wrong things
- 22:41Speaker 2: out of your mind.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Your life's change starts when you change your direction and
- 22:46Speaker 1: how you think. But it doesn't stop there. I want
- 22:50Speaker 1: you to look now at verse 5. Look what he says. Therefore,
- 22:58Speaker 1: now what's the therefore? That's therefore because of what happened
- 23:02Speaker 1: in the previous verse that you died and you've been
- 23:07Speaker 1: raised with Christ.
- 23:08Speaker 2: So therefore, you can do something.
- 23:11Speaker 1: You can put to death what belongs to your earthly nature.
- 23:16Speaker 1: And then he gives you this list of some things that,
- 23:18Speaker 1: and I don't think this is an exhaustive list because
- 23:20Speaker 1: you can probably come up with some other stuff too
- 23:22Speaker 1: that needs to be put to death. But he says
- 23:24Speaker 1: things like sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed,
- 23:31Speaker 1: which is a form of idolatry. Okay, keep going to
- 23:35Speaker 1: the next verse. Because of these, God's wrath is coming
- 23:39Speaker 1: upon the disobedient. You once walked in those things when
- 23:43Speaker 1: you were living in them. But I want you to notice,
- 23:45Speaker 1: so he's saying, therefore, because you die, because you've been
- 23:48Speaker 1: raised a new person, and the old man has died, therefore,
- 23:52Speaker 1: you can have the authority and the power to put
- 23:56Speaker 1: some stuff to death in your life. You don't have
- 23:59Speaker 1: to live with those old things. You can live like
- 24:02Speaker 1: you're born again.
- 24:04Speaker 2: You know?
- 24:04Speaker 1: But again, you might be born again, but there's still
- 24:06Speaker 1: the old junk in your life. You understand what I'm saying?
- 24:10Speaker 1: Some people, I tell people this when they come to
- 24:13Speaker 1: our next steps, that Sometimes we're born again, but we
- 24:16Speaker 1: still have the wrong stuff in our lives. We need
- 24:20Speaker 1: to find freedom. And we need to learn how to
- 24:24Speaker 1: walk free and live free and get the right person
- 24:28Speaker 1: in the control room. So here's what he's telling you.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Because you've been raised, you can put to death some
- 24:35Speaker 1: stuff in your life and get the right thing seated.
- 24:40Speaker 2: But notice something. This is on you.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I mean, you're not without the power of the Holy
- 24:47Speaker 1: Spirit at work in you, but he's not saying, let
- 24:50Speaker 1: God put some things to death. And he's saying, you
- 24:52Speaker 1: do it. You put some things to death in your life.
- 24:56Speaker 1: And notice he says, he says, don't, he doesn't say
- 24:59Speaker 1: negotiate with those things. He doesn't say, have a nice,
- 25:03Speaker 1: have a nice talk.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Just let them in once in a while.
- 25:06Speaker 1: When you're feeling a little down, you can have a
- 25:09Speaker 1: little bit of the, no, he says, put them to death.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Because here's the thing, if you don't put those things
- 25:16Speaker 1: to death, they will kill you. There are things that
- 25:20Speaker 1: want to destroy your life. Sexual immorality wants to destroy
- 25:26Speaker 1: your life. Lust wants to destroy your life. We could
- 25:30Speaker 1: go through the list again. They want to destroy your life.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Don't play with it. He says, put it to death. See,
- 25:37Speaker 1: I wonder why I keep having the same problems come
- 25:40Speaker 1: out of my life. Because you haven't put some things
- 25:43Speaker 1: to death. You're letting them sit in the control room
- 25:47Speaker 1: and they take over. Put some things to death in
- 25:50Speaker 1: your life. Don't give them a visitor pass.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Right?
- 25:54Speaker 1: Okay, once a week. No, put them to death. So
- 25:57Speaker 1: I want you to imagine the control room, right? Anxiety
- 26:00Speaker 1: comes in and just starts rearranging everything. She didn't ask permission.
- 26:05Speaker 1: She just takes over. That's what sin does. Sin will
- 26:10Speaker 1: come in. If you let it come in, it will
- 26:13Speaker 1: come in and ruin your life. And now you'll say,
- 26:16Speaker 1: what do I do? I got the wrong thing in
- 26:18Speaker 1: the control room.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Put it to death. Don't play with it.
- 26:22Speaker 1: So God's telling you that's on you. Get the old
- 26:24Speaker 1: junk out because it'll destroy your life. But here's a
- 26:28Speaker 1: good question. How did that thing get there?
- 26:32Speaker 2: Right?
- 26:32Speaker 1: How does lust and greed and evil desires get in
- 26:35Speaker 1: the control room? Again, we let them in. We give
- 26:39Speaker 1: them permission. What you give your attention to is what
- 26:45Speaker 1: you give permission to come into your life.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Your attention is like discipleship, right?
- 26:53Speaker 1: If you give your attention to the word of God,
- 26:57Speaker 1: this thing will teach me how to live. If I
- 27:00Speaker 1: give my attention to the word, it will correct me
- 27:03Speaker 1: when I'm wrong. It will give me the right thing
- 27:05Speaker 1: to do. What I give my attention to is discipleship.
- 27:08Speaker 1: If I'm giving my attention to the wrong thing, it
- 27:10Speaker 1: will form something in me. It will shape something in
- 27:14Speaker 1: my life. Stop giving your attention to the wrong thing.
- 27:18Speaker 1: You know, because again, what you're feeding your mind on
- 27:21Speaker 1: is shaping your life. We could say it this way.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Whatever holds your attention shapes your heart. What has access
- 27:28Speaker 1: shapes your heart. So the things that need to die,
- 27:32Speaker 1: he says, put them to death. Now look at verse 8.
- 27:36Speaker 1: He says, now put away all the following. So first,
- 27:40Speaker 1: there's some things you've got to put to death, and
- 27:43Speaker 1: there's some things you've got to put away. I'll talk
- 27:45Speaker 1: about the difference. But he says, put away the following.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Anger.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Again, it's not wrong to be angry, but it's wrong
- 27:52Speaker 1: to let anger control your life, right? Anger, wrath, malice, slander,
- 27:57Speaker 1: filthy language from your mouth.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Go to the next one.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Do not lie to one another since you've put off
- 28:05Speaker 1: the old self with its practices and have put on
- 28:07Speaker 1: the new self. You're being renewed in knowledge according to
- 28:11Speaker 1: the image of your creator. But I want you to
- 28:12Speaker 1: catch this this morning because he says, he says, kill
- 28:15Speaker 1: some things and then put some things off.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Right?
- 28:19Speaker 1: The language is like changing your clothes. So it's time
- 28:22Speaker 1: to change your clothes. So you've got some things that
- 28:25Speaker 1: you put to death, but you.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Still got the old clothes on.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Remember when Lazarus came out of his grave and he
- 28:29Speaker 1: still had the old clothes, the grave clothes on, and
- 28:33Speaker 1: somebody had to help him get that stuff off your life.
- 28:35Speaker 1: It's kind of the same imagery. You've got something you've
- 28:38Speaker 1: got to take off. But here's the difference. There's some
- 28:42Speaker 1: things that sit down in the control room. And then
- 28:46Speaker 1: there's some things that come out of your life as
- 28:48Speaker 1: a result of.
- 28:49Speaker 2: The wrong thing in the control room, right? So there's
- 28:52Speaker 2: one thing you've got to put to death.
- 28:53Speaker 1: The next thing is like the fruit of that thing
- 28:56Speaker 1: that's coming out of your life. And so God first
- 28:59Speaker 1: tells you, address the root, kill the thing that needs
- 29:03Speaker 1: to be put to death, because if you don't take
- 29:05Speaker 1: care of the root, you'll keep having the fruit, right? See,
- 29:09Speaker 1: if you keep trying to take care of the fruit,
- 29:11Speaker 1: you keep trying to take care of the anger and
- 29:13Speaker 1: the malice and the lying and the filthy language and blah, blah, blah.
- 29:16Speaker 1: You're trying to take care of all this stuff that's
- 29:18Speaker 1: coming out of your life, but you haven't addressed the root.
- 29:20Speaker 1: You'll be picking bad fruit the rest of your life.
- 29:23Speaker 1: So he says, address the root because when you address
- 29:26Speaker 1: the root, the right fruit can now grow. There's a
- 29:31Speaker 1: lot of rhyming, but you get it. Kill the root
- 29:35Speaker 1: and the wrong thing will stop growing in your life.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Look what he says in verse 12. Therefore, as God's
- 29:40Speaker 1: chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion. So
- 29:45Speaker 1: first you take some things off. You've killed some things.
- 29:49Speaker 1: You've taken some things off. Now you're not dressed. You
- 29:52Speaker 1: got to get dressed. What am I supposed to wear?
- 29:55Speaker 1: I got to get dressed for church on Sunday. Well,
- 29:58Speaker 1: you better put some things on. And it's going to
- 30:00Speaker 1: look like compassion and kindness. What about Monday? You've got
- 30:03Speaker 1: to put some things on. Put on compassion and kindness
- 30:06Speaker 1: and humility and gentleness and patience. And you can go
- 30:09Speaker 1: to the next verse. Bearing with one another, forgiving one another.
- 30:14Speaker 1: If anyone has a grievance against one another, as the
- 30:16Speaker 1: Lord has forgiven you, you're also to forgive. Above all,
- 30:19Speaker 1: put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.
- 30:21Speaker 1: So it gives you this whole big list of things
- 30:24Speaker 1: you should be wearing.
- 30:26Speaker 2: But again.
- 30:27Speaker 1: This isn't the concept of I've got to physically work
- 30:32Speaker 1: on all these.
- 30:33Speaker 2: No, it's supposed to be coming out of you.
- 30:35Speaker 1: This is supposed to be fruit coming out of a
- 30:39Speaker 1: life that has the right thing seated in your life.
- 30:44Speaker 2: It's not a struggle.
- 30:45Speaker 1: You know, we talk about forgiveness, and I know sometimes
- 30:48Speaker 1: forgiveness is a struggle, and it is hard, and we've
- 30:50Speaker 1: been through hard things. But for a normal situation, forgiveness
- 30:54Speaker 1: should not be a hard concept. because it's just fruit
- 30:56Speaker 1: coming out of your life. You know, my natural tendencies
- 31:01Speaker 1: should be changing. So instead of naturally tending to get
- 31:07Speaker 1: angry and have malice and have, I forget all the lists,
- 31:11Speaker 1: but all those things that were coming out, all those,
- 31:13Speaker 1: the wrong things coming out, it should now be my
- 31:17Speaker 1: natural tendency is for things like love and compassion and
- 31:23Speaker 1: kindness and Those things should be just coming out of
- 31:27Speaker 1: me as fruit in my life. I know this is
- 31:31Speaker 1: pretty heavy for Inside Out 2, okay? Never got all
- 31:38Speaker 1: this watching the movie before. But again, hey, this isn't
- 31:42Speaker 1: to condemn anyone, right? This isn't meant to condemn you.
- 31:47Speaker 1: But we all have times where we struggle, right? And
- 31:50Speaker 1: we all have times where we just don't live perfect lives,
- 31:54Speaker 1: but thank God Jesus did, right? And we have his grace.
- 31:57Speaker 1: And so this isn't like, hey, I messed up in
- 31:59Speaker 1: my life. You know, I'm just a mess and Pastor
- 32:02Speaker 1: Dave is really calling me. I know I'm, but what
- 32:04Speaker 1: I'm telling you is the truth of the word of God.
- 32:06Speaker 1: If there's things that are living, it's different. Sometimes we
- 32:09Speaker 1: make mistakes and we mess up, but when something is
- 32:12Speaker 1: living in your life, you've got to address it. You've
- 32:16Speaker 1: got to kill the things that don't belong and address
- 32:19Speaker 1: those things. You know, so again, this is something we
- 32:24Speaker 1: should have fruit coming out of our lives, not just
- 32:26Speaker 1: on Sundays, but on Mondays too, right? And maybe you're
- 32:29Speaker 1: here this morning, you're saying, hey, I'm good. I feel
- 32:31Speaker 1: like I've got, you know, the right thing. See, I'm
- 32:33Speaker 1: pretty patient. I'm pretty this, I'm pretty that. Let's see,
- 32:36Speaker 1: God will test you today. I prophesy on your way home,
- 32:42Speaker 1: you will get the slowest driver you've ever seen in
- 32:44Speaker 1: front of you.
- 32:45Speaker 2: And let's see what comes out, okay? And then you
- 32:48Speaker 2: can put it to the test. See, things got to
- 32:50Speaker 2: be tested.
- 32:52Speaker 1: You've got to have your faith tested sometimes because you
- 32:56Speaker 1: got to know what's inside of you. See, I want
- 32:59Speaker 1: to know what's in me. I don't want to be guessing.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I want to know what's in me. So if I
- 33:04Speaker 1: got to be tested, I want to be tested. God
- 33:07Speaker 1: put me to the test so I can correct the
- 33:09Speaker 1: things that need correction. If I got something hiding back
- 33:12Speaker 1: there in the control room and he comes out sometimes
- 33:15Speaker 1: when the wrong driver gets in front, I want to
- 33:17Speaker 1: address that guy. I don't want to address the driver.
- 33:19Speaker 1: I want to address the guy living in the control room.
- 33:22Speaker 2: You with me? Let me come back. Sorry, let me
- 33:25Speaker 2: go to verse 15.
- 33:28Speaker 1: And God gives us the final key about the control
- 33:31Speaker 1: room of your heart.
- 33:33Speaker 2: And I'm getting ready to close this here.
- 33:35Speaker 1: He says, let the peace of Christ to which you
- 33:39Speaker 1: were also called in one body, rule your hearts and
- 33:44Speaker 1: be thankful. Let the peace of Christ rule. Another translation,
- 33:50Speaker 1: he says, let the peace of Christ have control. And
- 33:55Speaker 1: so here's again the question, how do I keep the
- 33:57Speaker 1: wrong thing from grabbing control? I have to decide to
- 34:03Speaker 1: let his peace rule in my heart. I've got to
- 34:06Speaker 1: decide to do that. But Paul doesn't just say peace. Listen,
- 34:10Speaker 1: he says the peace of Christ. See, this isn't something
- 34:15Speaker 1: I think sometimes we get the wrong idea about the
- 34:17Speaker 1: peace of God. And we act like this is something
- 34:19Speaker 1: I've got to work up. I got to do some
- 34:22Speaker 1: breathing exercises. There's nothing wrong with breathing. You should all
- 34:26Speaker 1: be breathing or you'll die. But breathing exercises will not
- 34:30Speaker 1: bring the peace of Christ.
- 34:33Speaker 2: You know? there's not going to happen with meditation.
- 34:37Speaker 1: It's not going to happen with, you know, sitting cross-legged
- 34:40Speaker 1: or whatever it might, whatever kind of things you want
- 34:42Speaker 1: to do, humming. It's not going to bring the peace
- 34:44Speaker 1: of Christ because it doesn't come that way.
- 34:47Speaker 2: It comes from him. It comes from him. It's not
- 34:50Speaker 2: something you work up. It's his peace.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Jesus said, peace I leave with you. My peace I
- 34:56Speaker 1: give to you, not like the world gives. Let not
- 35:01Speaker 1: your heart be troubled. Don't let it be afraid. Catch
- 35:06Speaker 1: what he's saying. He said, I've given you my peace.
- 35:09Speaker 1: It doesn't belong to the world. You don't get it
- 35:13Speaker 1: from the world. You don't get it from worldly things.
- 35:16Speaker 1: You get it straight from God. Peace I leave with
- 35:19Speaker 1: you and I give it to you. So now you
- 35:23Speaker 1: have the peace of God in your life. If you're
- 35:25Speaker 1: born again, you have his peace in your life. So
- 35:29Speaker 1: then he says, let not your heart be troubled or afraid.
- 35:35Speaker 1: So that means if I have his peace, I can
- 35:38Speaker 1: still choose to let my heart be troubled. I can
- 35:43Speaker 1: still choose to be afraid. But he says, don't do that.
- 35:47Speaker 1: You got to stay in the peace of God. In
- 35:51Speaker 1: your life today, I'm telling you, you need to stay
- 35:54Speaker 1: in the peace of God because you can choose to
- 35:56Speaker 1: let other things come in. You can choose to let
- 35:59Speaker 1: the wrong thoughts come in and they will take you
- 36:02Speaker 1: right out of the peace of God, but you're just
- 36:03Speaker 1: letting it. Don't let those thoughts take you wherever those
- 36:07Speaker 1: thoughts want to go.
- 36:09Speaker 2: What does he say?
- 36:09Speaker 1: Put that verse up again, verse 15. Let the peace
- 36:13Speaker 1: of Christ rule. When something rules, it means it's in charge.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Let the peace of Christ rule. When his peace is seated,
- 36:27Speaker 1: it's ruling. What it means is his peace has the
- 36:31Speaker 1: final word. It doesn't mean there won't be things in
- 36:35Speaker 1: my life that will sometimes make me afraid because that's
- 36:37Speaker 1: just silly to think that. There's going to be things
- 36:40Speaker 1: in your life that could bring fear. But in those situations,
- 36:46Speaker 1: the peace of Christ is ruling. I don't have to
- 36:50Speaker 1: let my heart be troubled. See, fear doesn't get the
- 36:54Speaker 1: final word, right? Anxiety might want to come in sometimes,
- 36:59Speaker 1: but the peace of Christ is ruling. My emotions don't
- 37:05Speaker 1: get the final word, right? It doesn't mean my emotions
- 37:08Speaker 1: are gone. God doesn't want you to be a robot.
- 37:10Speaker 1: My emotions are good. God gave you emotions, but emotions
- 37:14Speaker 1: aren't supposed to rule over your life. In your life,
- 37:20Speaker 1: fear still gets a voice, but it doesn't get the
- 37:22Speaker 1: final word. Anger might get a voice, but it doesn't
- 37:25Speaker 1: get the final word. But I want you to understand this.
- 37:30Speaker 1: One more time, the peace of Christ. I want you
- 37:35Speaker 1: to catch this because I think we get the wrong
- 37:37Speaker 1: idea sometimes. We're like, well, I got to get his peace.
- 37:40Speaker 2: I need his peace. I need his peace. No, peace,
- 37:44Speaker 2: put that up. Peace isn't the goal. He is. It's his.
- 37:51Speaker 1: We shared this scripture last week about I want to
- 37:56Speaker 1: know Christ. I think it all comes down to this today, church,
- 38:01Speaker 1: in your life. Sometimes the wrong things want to take
- 38:03Speaker 1: the seat, but you've got to get him seated at
- 38:06Speaker 1: the center of your life. He is the goal. I
- 38:11Speaker 1: want to know Christ. Peace is fruit that comes out
- 38:17Speaker 1: of a relationship with him. The answer to who is
- 38:21Speaker 1: in your control room, it's not joy. Joy is good,
- 38:24Speaker 1: but it comes from, joy comes, real joy comes.
- 38:28Speaker 2: From knowing him, right? Right?
- 38:31Speaker 1: It's not positive thinking. That's not the goal. The goal
- 38:36Speaker 1: isn't even peace. The goal is Jesus. And I think
- 38:39Speaker 1: this is where it really separates from that movie because
- 38:42Speaker 1: the movie was about a little girl balancing her emotions,
- 38:46Speaker 1: but our goal is not, you know, there's nothing wrong
- 38:48Speaker 1: with balanced emotions, but our goal isn't that. Our goal
- 38:51Speaker 1: is that Christ is the center and the Lord of
- 38:55Speaker 1: our lives. And That's why you need to put your
- 39:01Speaker 1: mind on things above. That's why you need to put
- 39:05Speaker 1: to death things that compete with him. That's why you
- 39:08Speaker 1: need to put on the character of Christ Jesus so
- 39:11Speaker 1: then you can let his peace rule your heart. I'm
- 39:13Speaker 1: going to close with this verse because in the next
- 39:15Speaker 1: several verses, and you can read it later on your own,
- 39:17Speaker 1: the next several verses he talks about what happens when
- 39:22Speaker 1: Christ is ruling. How thankfulness comes. His word fills your mind.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Worship fills your mouth. but I'll close with verse 17.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything
- 39:35Speaker 1: in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to
- 39:38Speaker 1: God the Father through him. Everything I do is meant
- 39:43Speaker 1: to reflect him. It's all flowing from a place of
- 39:47Speaker 1: Jesus being at the center of Would you do this?
- 39:51Speaker 1: Would you stand with me this morning? And we're going
- 39:53Speaker 1: to close in prayer. And I want you, if you would,
- 39:59Speaker 1: just bow your heads for a moment. And I want
- 40:02Speaker 1: to just ask you again that question we started with.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Who's in the control room of your life? You know,
- 40:09Speaker 1: maybe as we've been talking about this, you've realized you've
- 40:15Speaker 1: had the wrong thing sitting in the control room. And
- 40:21Speaker 1: the real issue is that Jesus is not in control.
- 40:27Speaker 1: You know, maybe you spent your whole life trying to
- 40:29Speaker 1: carry weight. You've been trying to carry anxiety. You've been
- 40:31Speaker 1: trying to manage depression. You've been trying to manage all
- 40:33Speaker 1: these things. I want you to know the answer today
- 40:38Speaker 1: is not learning how to manage emotions. The answer today
- 40:42Speaker 1: is Jesus. If today you've never surrendered your life to Jesus,
- 40:48Speaker 1: this is your moment. The word of God says if
- 40:52Speaker 1: you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and
- 40:58Speaker 1: you believe in your heart that God raised him from
- 41:00Speaker 1: the dead, you'll be saved. And I want to ask
- 41:02Speaker 1: you this morning, if you're here, you say, I need
- 41:04Speaker 1: to get my life right with the Lord. I need
- 41:07Speaker 1: to give my life to Jesus. If you're away from
- 41:10Speaker 1: God today, that's you. I want you to raise your
- 41:11Speaker 1: hand right where you're at. I want to pray with you.
- 41:13Speaker 1: I'm not going to embarrass you. Just raise your hand
- 41:16Speaker 1: up so I can see it and pray with you
- 41:17Speaker 1: and agree together.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Thank you, Lord. I'm going to pray this prayer.
- 41:25Speaker 1: I know sometimes, I've had so many people tell me,
- 41:27Speaker 1: I didn't raise my hand, but I prayed that prayer
- 41:28Speaker 1: when you prayed. And I want to pray that prayer
- 41:31Speaker 1: because I believe there's somebody this morning, this is for you.
- 41:34Speaker 1: And maybe you just didn't want to raise your hand,
- 41:37Speaker 1: but you can still pray right now. And just repeat
- 41:40Speaker 1: this with me and say, Jesus, I ask you to
- 41:43Speaker 1: come into my heart. Forgive me for my sins. And
- 41:49Speaker 1: make me a new person. I give you my life today, Jesus.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Amen.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Amen. For the rest of us today, if you'd say,
- 42:06Speaker 1: you know, I've had some struggles. I've had some moments
- 42:09Speaker 1: where the wrong things are grabbing the controls. Maybe it's anger.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Maybe it's fear, worry, whatever it might be. Maybe it's
- 42:18Speaker 1: the approval of people. But listen, I don't believe this
- 42:23Speaker 1: is something we settle in one moment. I think this
- 42:26Speaker 1: is something we settle every moment of every day because
- 42:30Speaker 1: there's going to be times in our lives where the
- 42:32Speaker 1: wrong things try to take over. And what we do
- 42:36Speaker 1: is we continually put the wrong things to death. We
- 42:40Speaker 1: continually put off the things that don't belong so that
- 42:44Speaker 1: we can have the right things coming out of us.
- 42:46Speaker 1: And this morning, let me just pray for you because
- 42:48Speaker 1: maybe there's some people here that you say, I've really
- 42:50Speaker 1: struggled with this. I just need the Lord to touch
- 42:53Speaker 1: me today. I just want to pray for all of us. Lord,
- 42:55Speaker 1: I thank you this morning for your goodness to us. Lord,
- 43:01Speaker 1: thank you that you are seated in the control room
- 43:05Speaker 1: of our lives. Lord, we put you in charge and
- 43:10Speaker 1: we say, have your way in us this morning. Lord,
- 43:14Speaker 1: if there's some this morning, I believe there's some today
- 43:17Speaker 1: that are struggling with things that should have been.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Put to death. And Lord, you've been speaking to them
- 43:24Speaker 2: during the message.
- 43:25Speaker 1: There's things that need to be put to death in
- 43:27Speaker 1: their lives that they are wrestling with. Lord God, I
- 43:30Speaker 1: thank you for just encouraging them today. Lord, I thank
- 43:34Speaker 1: you for helping them to take that step to say,
- 43:37Speaker 1: I'm going to live the way God's called me to live.
- 43:40Speaker 2: I'm going to put those things to death.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Lord, you might be speaking to people about putting certain
- 43:44Speaker 1: things out of their lives so it doesn't get into
- 43:46Speaker 1: their minds. Lord, I pray that you would let us
- 43:50Speaker 1: feed on the right things because we are what we eat. Lord,
- 43:53Speaker 1: I pray that you would just encourage your people today.
- 43:57Speaker 1: I bless your people. I thank you for this word,
- 44:00Speaker 1: for this moment to just be encouraged in the word
- 44:03Speaker 1: of God. I bless your people in the name of Jesus.
