- 0:00Speaker 1: Christ liveth in me. I want to speak this evening
- 0:04Speaker 1: about the life that Christ lives in us. You have
- 0:08Speaker 1: it here in the parable of the vine. What can
- 0:11Speaker 1: be closer or more intimate than the union between the
- 0:14Speaker 1: vine and the branch. How the very same sap that
- 0:18Speaker 1: is in the vine is to be found in the branch.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We have very many kinds of grapes, but in each
- 0:24Speaker 1: case the juice that is in the vine is the
- 0:27Speaker 1: very same juce that is in the branch. And so
- 0:30Speaker 1: the very same life and spirit which is in Christ
- 0:33Speaker 1: is to be in us. This is the great lesson
- 0:36Speaker 1: we want to learn to night. Read John chapter fifteen,
- 0:40Speaker 1: verses one to twelve. Our life is to be a
- 0:44Speaker 1: life of perfect union with Jesus. Let us join in
- 0:48Speaker 1: prayer and ask God to reveal to us something of
- 0:51Speaker 1: the wonderful glory of the life that we have in
- 0:54Speaker 1: Christ Jesus, and let us believe that He can even
- 0:57Speaker 1: now give us definite blessing. We want to have a
- 1:02Speaker 1: clear idea of what we in our Christian life aim at.
- 1:06Speaker 1: The question is what is the work that Christ does
- 1:09Speaker 1: to bring us nigh to God? In what way does
- 1:12Speaker 1: He enable us to live as God wants us to live.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I said this morning that we too often think of
- 1:18Speaker 1: Christ as an outward person here on earth who hears
- 1:22Speaker 1: and helps us. A man may come and give me
- 1:25Speaker 1: ten thousand dollars, and so be my helper, but there
- 1:29Speaker 1: is no further union between him and me. The man
- 1:33Speaker 1: may be a great benefactor, that there is no organic
- 1:36Speaker 1: union between him and me. I may never see him again.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Many people look upon Christ as such a separate outward savior,
- 1:46Speaker 1: they never can fully enjoy his salvation. I must believe
- 1:51Speaker 1: that even as Christ is in heaven, so he is
- 1:54Speaker 1: here in me his branch. He comes into my inmost life.
- 1:59Speaker 1: He occupies that life, he lives there, and by living there,
- 2:04Speaker 1: he enables me to live as a child of God.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Some think that when Christ dwells within us, he comes
- 2:11Speaker 1: somewhere in the region of the heart, and he lives there.
- 2:15Speaker 1: We are two separate persons, Christ one and I one,
- 2:19Speaker 1: and somehow he works in me at times. No, that
- 2:24Speaker 1: is not the way Christ comes into me and becomes
- 2:28Speaker 1: my very life. He comes into the very root of
- 2:31Speaker 1: my heart and being. He comes into my willing and
- 2:35Speaker 1: thinking and feeling and living, and lives in me in
- 2:38Speaker 1: the power which the omnipresent God alone can exercise. When
- 2:43Speaker 1: I understand this, my soul bows down in adoration and
- 2:47Speaker 1: confidence toward God. I live in the flesh, the life
- 2:51Speaker 1: of flesh and blood. But Christ dwelling in me is
- 2:54Speaker 1: the true life of my life. The words which I
- 2:58Speaker 1: want to speak are very simple and well known. Galatians
- 3:01Speaker 1: Chapter two, Verse twenty. Christ liveth in me. I am
- 3:06Speaker 1: crucified with Christ. Nevertheless, I live yet not I, but
- 3:11Speaker 1: Christ liveth in me. Now the point to which I
- 3:14Speaker 1: want to direct attention this evening is that if Christ
- 3:18Speaker 1: is to live in me, he does not live in
- 3:20Speaker 1: me by a blind force, nor without my knowing it.
- 3:24Speaker 1: He calls me to come and see what his life is.
- 3:28Speaker 1: And so if I desire his life, I must give
- 3:31Speaker 1: up mine. I must also give up all wrong ideas
- 3:35Speaker 1: about what the life of Christ really is. I cannot
- 3:39Speaker 1: have the life of Christ in power in me unless
- 3:42Speaker 1: I seek to know truly what the life is that
- 3:45Speaker 1: he lived. Oh, come and let the living Christ live
- 3:49Speaker 1: in you, and to that end, seek to know the
- 3:53Speaker 1: life He has set before you in his example. Not
- 3:57Speaker 1: that we are able to imitate Christ, but because Christ
- 4:01Speaker 1: lived his life for us and imparts it to us.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Therefore we can do it. What folly it would be
- 4:07Speaker 1: for a child of three years to say all that
- 4:10Speaker 1: my father can do, I can do? And how can
- 4:13Speaker 1: I say? I can live as the Mighty Christ did?
- 4:17Speaker 1: What folly to attempt to walk as Christ did? And
- 4:21Speaker 1: yet the Bible tells me I must do it. The
- 4:25Speaker 1: Bible also tells me I can do it because Christ
- 4:28Speaker 1: liveth in me. If I allow the living Christ to
- 4:32Speaker 1: take possession of my will and desires, I can walk
- 4:36Speaker 1: even as He walked. Let us come to the life
- 4:40Speaker 1: of Christ and try and find out what is that
- 4:43Speaker 1: life that he lived on earth with his father. That
- 4:46Speaker 1: is exactly the Christ who liveth in us. There are
- 4:50Speaker 1: not two Christs, only one. The Christ that lived on
- 4:54Speaker 1: earth is the Christ that lives in my heart. The
- 4:57Speaker 1: great mark of Christ is that he lived in the
- 5:00Speaker 1: deepest humility and dependence upon the Father. He said, I
- 5:05Speaker 1: can do nothing of myself in everything. He had his
- 5:09Speaker 1: life from God note five points in his life. Take
- 5:15Speaker 1: his birth there he received his life from God. Take
- 5:19Speaker 1: his life and walk on earth. He always waited upon God.
- 5:24Speaker 1: He lived his whole life in dependence upon God alone.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Take his death. He gave up his life to God,
- 5:32Speaker 1: even unto the very death, Take his resurrection. He received
- 5:37Speaker 1: his life back again from God the second time, take
- 5:40Speaker 1: his ascension. He was taken up to heaven to find
- 5:44Speaker 1: his glory with God. Don't you see from the beginning
- 5:48Speaker 1: to the end, God was everything in that life. If
- 5:52Speaker 1: I understand that that the Christ who is going to
- 5:55Speaker 1: live in me is the Christ that honored God in everything,
- 5:58Speaker 1: he will work that same disposition in me. And that
- 6:02Speaker 1: will be the beauty, blessedness and strength of my life.
- 6:06Speaker 1: When I learn like Christ to know that in everything
- 6:09Speaker 1: God is all, and when the motto of his life
- 6:12Speaker 1: becomes mine for God, to God, through God are all things.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Look at the birth of Christ, what does that mean?
- 6:23Speaker 1: God gave the power of the Holy Spirit in the
- 6:26Speaker 1: Virgin Mary, and it was by the almighty power of
- 6:29Speaker 1: God that Christ was born as a child in Bethlehem.
- 6:33Speaker 1: He was the workmanship of God. God sent the Holy
- 6:37Speaker 1: Spirit to form him and to work everything in connection
- 6:40Speaker 1: with his birth in the Virgin Mary. Christ always remembered
- 6:45Speaker 1: that he always told the people his Father sent him.
- 6:49Speaker 1: He was not his own master. He acknowledged that he
- 6:52Speaker 1: had been sent by God. He always acknowledged that he
- 6:56Speaker 1: had his life from God. The Father hath given all
- 7:00Speaker 1: things into the hands of the Son. The Father hath
- 7:03Speaker 1: given unto the Son to have life in himself. That
- 7:07Speaker 1: was Christ's starting point. My life comes from God. I
- 7:11Speaker 1: come from God. I have nothing of myself, and everything
- 7:15Speaker 1: I get I must get from God. Now, if Christ
- 7:19Speaker 1: took that stand, I wish that we could be brought
- 7:22Speaker 1: to take that stand and to say, in deep truth,
- 7:25Speaker 1: this new life is a life that I have from God.
- 7:29Speaker 1: God gave it me. I have got a work of
- 7:31Speaker 1: God right in my heart by the Holy Ghost in regeneration.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I have got a new life from God. And what
- 7:39Speaker 1: will you then think of that life that God has given?
- 7:42Speaker 1: Who is going to maintain it? God alone can maintain
- 7:46Speaker 1: what he has begun. He must work it out to completion.
- 7:50Speaker 1: He must perfect it to the very end. So my
- 7:53Speaker 1: life is given by God. The life of Christ and
- 7:57Speaker 1: the life of my soul are both given from God
- 7:59Speaker 1: in Heaven, received from Him, and must be kept day
- 8:03Speaker 1: by day. In deep consciousness, it belongs to God. God
- 8:08Speaker 1: alone can keep it right, maintain it. It is the
- 8:12Speaker 1: highest folly for me to think I can keep it myself.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Have you ever studied that I have received from the
- 8:19Speaker 1: Living God, the Living Christ in me? And I am
- 8:22Speaker 1: not to try and live out that life, but I
- 8:25Speaker 1: am to take it to God and acknowledge my God,
- 8:29Speaker 1: Thou hast planted it in me, Thou alone canst keep it.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Do this if you want to realize what that dependence is.
- 8:37Speaker 1: How Christ lived his whole life in dependence upon God's
- 8:41Speaker 1: will and God's strength and God's might. He said, regarding
- 8:46Speaker 1: that question of strength, the son can do nothing of himself.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Was that really true? Yes? He said the words I
- 8:55Speaker 1: speak I speak not of myself, but as the Father
- 8:59Speaker 1: showeth the works them I do. He said, in regard
- 9:03Speaker 1: to his will, I came not to do my own will.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I cannot trust my will. I do not know what
- 9:10Speaker 1: I ought to do. I wait fully that the Everlasting
- 9:13Speaker 1: God might work out what is right. If Christ the
- 9:17Speaker 1: Holy One needed to say that, don't you think you
- 9:20Speaker 1: and I need it ten thousand times more? And that
- 9:25Speaker 1: is what we want Christ to come in to us
- 9:27Speaker 1: for to breathe in us that very disposition, And that
- 9:31Speaker 1: is what I speak of, the very highest virtue of
- 9:35Speaker 1: any Christian life is only to let God have his
- 9:38Speaker 1: way only to give God the opportunity of doing His
- 9:42Speaker 1: work in us, and coming day by day, hour by hour,
- 9:46Speaker 1: to the place of absolute dependence upon God, and to
- 9:50Speaker 1: learn one lesson, O God, I have nothing, I do
- 9:54Speaker 1: not know anything. I am nothing nothing, and I can
- 9:59Speaker 1: only do what God God makes me. And now how
- 10:03Speaker 1: is Christ to bring me near to God? He cannot
- 10:06Speaker 1: bring me near to God in any other way than
- 10:09Speaker 1: the way he came himself. What was that way? The
- 10:13Speaker 1: way of the deepest self abnegation, the way of the
- 10:16Speaker 1: most entire surrender to God. He was forever expecting God
- 10:21Speaker 1: to work in him, to look to God for strength.
- 10:24Speaker 1: He prayed to God for guidance. He cried to God
- 10:28Speaker 1: in his trouble. God was everything everything to him, and
- 10:32Speaker 1: Christ was content to be nothing. Are you willing to
- 10:37Speaker 1: have this Christ to come into your life? Dear friends?
- 10:41Speaker 1: I cannot speak it out plain enough in words. The
- 10:44Speaker 1: great reason why our Christian life does not advance more
- 10:48Speaker 1: is we try to do too much ourselves. We are
- 10:52Speaker 1: far too self active and self confident. We perhaps never
- 10:57Speaker 1: learned the simple elementary lesson that the only place for
- 11:01Speaker 1: me before God is just to be nothing, and God
- 11:04Speaker 1: will work in me. Look at the angels in heaven,
- 11:08Speaker 1: the Seraphim and Cherubim. Why are they such bright flames
- 11:12Speaker 1: before the throne of God? Because they are nothing, nothing
- 11:17Speaker 1: in them to hinder God, and he can let the
- 11:19Speaker 1: glory of His presence burn right through them. And why
- 11:23Speaker 1: was Christ so perfect? And why did Christ gain such victory?
- 11:27Speaker 1: And why did Christ please God so? It is this
- 11:31Speaker 1: one reason? He allowed God to work in him from
- 11:34Speaker 1: morning until night, And every step was just in dependence
- 11:39Speaker 1: upon God. He said, Father, guide me, Father, I wait
- 11:44Speaker 1: upon thee Father work in me. And when Christ comes
- 11:49Speaker 1: to live in us, do believe me and God's word,
- 11:52Speaker 1: The first and chief thing he wants to work in
- 11:54Speaker 1: you is an absolute dependence upon your God. Christians, have
- 12:00Speaker 1: you not to confess I have never seen that right,
- 12:03Speaker 1: I have not lived it out. I have not understood
- 12:06Speaker 1: that from morning to night, I must let God work
- 12:09Speaker 1: in me. I must do nothing. You may say, how
- 12:14Speaker 1: can we do our work? What was Christ? Also? Inactive?
- 12:18Speaker 1: Was the apostle inactive? With a restless activity. He traversed
- 12:22Speaker 1: the world. And yet all the time he says, I
- 12:25Speaker 1: am nothing. Waiting upon God won't make us inactive. It
- 12:30Speaker 1: will give us a higher activity. Pray to God to
- 12:35Speaker 1: teach us that Christ in us needs a life of
- 12:38Speaker 1: absolute entire dependence upon God. Look at the death of Christ.
- 12:44Speaker 1: What does that mean? It means that the life that
- 12:47Speaker 1: God had given, he gave that up entirely to God.
- 12:50Speaker 1: And that means this. He said, I have no wish
- 12:54Speaker 1: to regard my life as my own property. If God
- 12:57Speaker 1: wants it, however much suffering, however much shame and death
- 13:01Speaker 1: it cost me. If God wants it, I give it
- 13:04Speaker 1: up to God. That is fair, that is right. If
- 13:09Speaker 1: I have everything from God, then everything ought to return
- 13:12Speaker 1: to God. Thus with Christ, that had been his whole
- 13:16Speaker 1: life through for his death was nothing but the completion
- 13:20Speaker 1: of the spirit that had indicated all his life. When
- 13:23Speaker 1: he was only twelve years old, Remember he said to Mary,
- 13:27Speaker 1: know ye not, I must be about my father's business.
- 13:31Speaker 1: And time after time he said, it is my meat
- 13:34Speaker 1: and drink to do the will of him that sent me.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I am not come to do my own will, but
- 13:40Speaker 1: the will of Him that sent me. And so he
- 13:43Speaker 1: went down to Gethseemine, where he said to the Father,
- 13:46Speaker 1: not my will, but thine be done. I am afraid
- 13:50Speaker 1: that we have never acknowledged the right that God has,
- 13:54Speaker 1: and that we have never understood. Every power I have
- 13:57Speaker 1: comes straight from God. My whole life life comes from God.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And every moment of my life ought to go back
- 14:03Speaker 1: to God. And every strength I get in the spiritual
- 14:07Speaker 1: life comes from God, just as the sunlight comes from
- 14:10Speaker 1: the Sun, and everything ought to go back to God,
- 14:13Speaker 1: and every action will be to the glory of God.
- 14:18Speaker 1: A Christian who has Christ in him will be a
- 14:21Speaker 1: man truly sacred and given up wholly to God. Is
- 14:25Speaker 1: that easy? No? Why? Because self is in us so strong.
- 14:32Speaker 1: The curse of sin has brought us into that fearful
- 14:35Speaker 1: condition that instead of considering it an honor and a
- 14:38Speaker 1: privilege to be nothing and to do His will, we
- 14:41Speaker 1: have come to look upon it as hard. We have
- 14:44Speaker 1: come to look upon it as a high attainment, indicating
- 14:47Speaker 1: that we cannot attain to it. If a man gives
- 14:51Speaker 1: up himself and will come to God, he can live
- 14:54Speaker 1: this life of Christ living in him, or else the
- 14:57Speaker 1: Bible cannot be true. Paul, writing in the Epistle to
- 15:01Speaker 1: the Colossians, prayed for the Colossians that they might stand
- 15:05Speaker 1: perfect and complete in all the will of God. Colossians
- 15:09Speaker 1: four twelve. Beloved, listen, Christ only lived for God's will?
- 15:15Speaker 1: And do you want that Christ in your hearts? Or
- 15:18Speaker 1: do you want to try and live a little for
- 15:20Speaker 1: your own will? Do you want the living Christ, the
- 15:24Speaker 1: Christ that reveals God, the living Christ who gave up everything?
- 15:28Speaker 1: Do you want that Christ? Oh? Come now, If there
- 15:33Speaker 1: is any man who has a right to say it,
- 15:35Speaker 1: it is Christ. This is what I want. Such a
- 15:39Speaker 1: Christ to live in me, a Christ that will enable
- 15:43Speaker 1: me to live in dependence upon God and in surrender
- 15:46Speaker 1: to God. God gives you this Christ. If from the
- 15:51Speaker 1: heart you give up your life, time and will to
- 15:54Speaker 1: God to do that very special thing in me, What
- 15:58Speaker 1: does it mean? It means a great deal. There was
- 16:02Speaker 1: that beautiful, perfect life of Christ without one sin. Was
- 16:07Speaker 1: it necessary to give up that life? Yes, because that
- 16:11Speaker 1: life of Christ was connected with Us and Adam, who
- 16:15Speaker 1: were in the power of sin. And God said, if
- 16:17Speaker 1: you wanted a life of everlasting glory, the life with us,
- 16:21Speaker 1: connected with Adam and sin, must be laid down in death.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Christ said, what shall I do? I want to be
- 16:29Speaker 1: glorified with the Father. He had prayed, Father, glorify thy son.
- 16:35Speaker 1: He felt, I cannot have the two lives. I cannot
- 16:39Speaker 1: take this life that I got from the flesh, that
- 16:42Speaker 1: is in the likeness of the flesh to heaven. It
- 16:44Speaker 1: cannot be so. The question came, will you give up
- 16:49Speaker 1: this life that you have from Adam under the curse
- 16:52Speaker 1: of sin? Will you give it up if God will
- 16:54Speaker 1: give you a life of everlasting glory? Christ said yes.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Christ says, if you want me to live in you,
- 17:03Speaker 1: you must do what I did. Your own life must
- 17:06Speaker 1: be given up to the very death, unto the death
- 17:09Speaker 1: of the cross, to be crucified. I must die to self.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I must die to the world. I must be an
- 17:17Speaker 1: actual partaker of the death of Christ. If we are
- 17:21Speaker 1: planted in the likeness of his death, we shall be
- 17:24Speaker 1: raised in the likeness of his resurrection. I must say
- 17:28Speaker 1: to God, I must seek to lose my life. I
- 17:32Speaker 1: want to die to self, and I want him to
- 17:35Speaker 1: come into me with his death and to take me
- 17:38Speaker 1: down into it. Fourth step resurrection. What does that mean?
- 17:46Speaker 1: It means that when Christ laid down his life into
- 17:49Speaker 1: the grave, that God gave it back to him in
- 17:52Speaker 1: double glory. When Christ had gone down into the grave
- 17:56Speaker 1: and into death, God lifted him up and gave him
- 17:59Speaker 1: a newly infinitely higher and better than the life he
- 18:03Speaker 1: laid down. That teaches me this that if I am
- 18:07Speaker 1: willing to lay down my evil life, my evil will,
- 18:11Speaker 1: my heart and its affections, all my power in this world,
- 18:15Speaker 1: to give it all up to God, to die to it,
- 18:18Speaker 1: and to give up myself wholly to trust and wait
- 18:20Speaker 1: upon God. God will give the new and resurrection life
- 18:24Speaker 1: of Christ in my heart here on earth. Christ, the
- 18:29Speaker 1: living one who was raised from the dead, will come
- 18:32Speaker 1: and live in my heart as he was dead and
- 18:35Speaker 1: is alive for evermore. Study the grave of Jesus. What
- 18:41Speaker 1: does it mean? Christ gave himself up unto death, utter helplessness,
- 18:46Speaker 1: to be nothing before God. And there he lay just,
- 18:50Speaker 1: allowing God to take his time to do his work.
- 18:54Speaker 1: When he was in the grave, in darkness, in death,
- 18:57Speaker 1: he left it to God to do what my might
- 19:00Speaker 1: please him. What did God do? God fulfilled his promise
- 19:05Speaker 1: and gave him a life a thousand times more glorious
- 19:08Speaker 1: than the life sacrificed on Calvary. Listen, if you want
- 19:13Speaker 1: Christ to really live in your heart, you want that
- 19:16Speaker 1: Christ who went down into the grave. He had trusted
- 19:20Speaker 1: God and was raised by God again you want Christ,
- 19:25Speaker 1: with the resurrected life, to come into you and be
- 19:27Speaker 1: one with you. The Christ who was dead and is
- 19:30Speaker 1: alive for evermore and comes and brings the power of
- 19:34Speaker 1: his death in me, so that everything dies to self
- 19:37Speaker 1: and sin, and brings the power of his life, so
- 19:41Speaker 1: that everything in me can live with a new life
- 19:43Speaker 1: from God. Even Jesus Christ that wants to live in me.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I do beseech you do not let yourselves be deceived
- 19:51Speaker 1: with some thoughts about the presence of Jesus. Just think
- 19:55Speaker 1: of him, specially in me. Trust in him. Let it
- 19:59Speaker 1: become a reality. Let him become a live presence. Who
- 20:04Speaker 1: is this Christ who lives in me. He is a
- 20:07Speaker 1: man who received his life from God, who lived that
- 20:10Speaker 1: life in intimate dependence upon God. A man who gave
- 20:14Speaker 1: up his whole life and will to God. The man
- 20:17Speaker 1: raised from the dead by the almighty power of God.
- 20:21Speaker 1: This is the Christ to live in you. Last, after
- 20:26Speaker 1: his resurrection, he ascended up into heaven. It means that
- 20:30Speaker 1: God took him up into the place of power to
- 20:33Speaker 1: share with him in his throne of glory, to make
- 20:36Speaker 1: him partaker of that divine power by which the Holy
- 20:39Speaker 1: Spirit is to become a blessing to the world. There
- 20:43Speaker 1: are some who cry, how can I be a blessing
- 20:46Speaker 1: to my fellow men? How did Christ become a blessing
- 20:50Speaker 1: to the world. He gave himself up to God, and
- 20:53Speaker 1: he died to himself and to his own natural life,
- 20:56Speaker 1: and waited for God to raise him up. And because
- 21:00Speaker 1: he did so, God lifted him up to the place
- 21:03Speaker 1: of blessing. He gave him the fullness of the Holy
- 21:06Speaker 1: Spirit to give you. You want Christ, he is in heaven.
- 21:12Speaker 1: But o, my brother, you cannot have Christ until you
- 21:15Speaker 1: have learned the lesson of depending upon God to die.
- 21:19Speaker 1: And then you must learn by faith to claim Christ
- 21:23Speaker 1: in the resurrection and in the ascension. And thus, as
- 21:27Speaker 1: Jesus Christ lives in you in your earthly life, you
- 21:30Speaker 1: will become a sharer of the glory of His heavenly love.
- 21:35Speaker 1: The whole Christ life in you, the Christ dependence upon God,
- 21:40Speaker 1: the Christ given up to God, the Christ raised up
- 21:43Speaker 1: by God, and the Christ exalted above with God. This
- 21:47Speaker 1: Christ wants to come and live in you. If Christ
- 21:52Speaker 1: is to bring me near to God, then it cannot
- 21:54Speaker 1: be as an outward person. He up in heaven, and
- 21:59Speaker 1: he dwelling and living in me. How is Christ going
- 22:03Speaker 1: to bring me near to God? Only one way? Christ
- 22:07Speaker 1: must live in my heart. He must live in me
- 22:10Speaker 1: by united harmony and oneness of faith towards that God.
- 22:15Speaker 1: This is a spiritual mystery. But God is a holy,
- 22:19Speaker 1: spiritual being, and I cannot draw nigh to Him by
- 22:23Speaker 1: my thought nor by thinking about a certain locality of heaven.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Being brought to God means that Christ comes into me
- 22:31Speaker 1: and lives his life in me and leads me up
- 22:33Speaker 1: into personal fellowship with the Living God. Now, the great
- 22:38Speaker 1: question that stirs the Church is this, why are Christians
- 22:42Speaker 1: so feeble? And the great question with many is what
- 22:46Speaker 1: can we do to get the full Christian life? To
- 22:49Speaker 1: live as God promises we can live? What can we
- 22:53Speaker 1: do to become just such children of God as the
- 22:56Speaker 1: Father is able to make us branches of the living
- 22:59Speaker 1: vine to the glory of God. My beloved Christians, let
- 23:03Speaker 1: me bring you to the point, what have you to do?
- 23:07Speaker 1: First of all, we must look upon this Christ and
- 23:10Speaker 1: ask ourselves, am I willing to give up everything that
- 23:14Speaker 1: this Christ can live in me? You saw and know
- 23:18Speaker 1: how Christ lived in Paul. Why it was as if
- 23:22Speaker 1: Christ had become incarnated in Paul. The same zeal for God,
- 23:27Speaker 1: the same love for souls, and the same readiness to
- 23:30Speaker 1: sacrifice everything Everything great in Paul was the complete Christ
- 23:36Speaker 1: life in him. There have been Christians since that day
- 23:40Speaker 1: that you could see the very form of Christ in them.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Now are you willing to have such a Christ? Suppose
- 23:47Speaker 1: this were possible, if God were to offer any one
- 23:50Speaker 1: of us that were willing for it. Suppose you were
- 23:53Speaker 1: to be as poor as Christ was, as persecuted as
- 23:56Speaker 1: he was. And suppose God were to say, my children,
- 24:00Speaker 1: I am giving the highest glory to man to allow
- 24:03Speaker 1: the Christ to come and live in him and live
- 24:06Speaker 1: this suffering life that he lived. How many of us
- 24:09Speaker 1: would say, yes, Lord, I would give anything that Christ
- 24:13Speaker 1: might take possession of me. How many would say, here
- 24:17Speaker 1: in Chicago, I cannot do it. It would cost too much
- 24:20Speaker 1: in business to take Him in me that way, O, friends,
- 24:25Speaker 1: God comes to us with that question, are you willing
- 24:28Speaker 1: to have my son Jesus as you find him in
- 24:31Speaker 1: the Word, in his humility, in his dependence, in his
- 24:35Speaker 1: submission and obedience, in his surrender to death and the grave,
- 24:40Speaker 1: in his waiting upon God to raise him. Are you
- 24:43Speaker 1: willing to have that Christ live in your heart. Some
- 24:47Speaker 1: men want life to study, They never get enough wisdom,
- 24:50Speaker 1: They long for knowledge. Are there none willing to night
- 24:54Speaker 1: to ask God to make them willing? I feel that
- 24:57Speaker 1: it is time to be trusting Jesus. My life is
- 25:01Speaker 1: so unlike Jesus, and yet he gave his blood for it.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Are there not here some who are willing to say, Lord,
- 25:09Speaker 1: God help me. I do desire to have this life
- 25:12Speaker 1: and this Christ in me. Is there some one trembling? Perhaps?
- 25:18Speaker 1: I had a note from someone this morning. They said
- 25:21Speaker 1: they were afraid, they were not willing to take the
- 25:24Speaker 1: step God requires. They said, would I pray that they
- 25:27Speaker 1: might be willing? Well? I do not know whether the
- 25:31Speaker 1: writer is here, but I know that there is some
- 25:34Speaker 1: one that feels I am afraid. I am not willing
- 25:37Speaker 1: to let the real Christ, just as he lived on earth,
- 25:40Speaker 1: live in me. I am not ready to live a
- 25:43Speaker 1: life of real dependence upon God every minute in the
- 25:47Speaker 1: presence of God. I am not willing to give up
- 25:50Speaker 1: all my pleasure and will Are you willing? It looks hard,
- 25:55Speaker 1: But are you willing to come? If you cannot say that?
- 25:59Speaker 1: Are you willing to say that you are willing to
- 26:01Speaker 1: be made? Willing to come? I say, do you will
- 26:05Speaker 1: to be made? Willing? Very well? Do it? Say we
- 26:10Speaker 1: can come? I would to God that every one here
- 26:13Speaker 1: were willing. Oh, come, though your heart is so feeble, say,
- 26:18Speaker 1: I do want that Christ to live completely his own
- 26:21Speaker 1: life in me, and just reproduce his own life and
- 26:25Speaker 1: make me exactly like himself to live for man in him.
- 26:30Speaker 1: He is ready belived. You have often and often heard
- 26:34Speaker 1: the gospel and heard the gospel of sanctification and consecration
- 26:38Speaker 1: and obedience. But have you understood and have you accepted
- 26:42Speaker 1: this truth that it just means letting go of everything
- 26:46Speaker 1: and letting Christ have all? Are you willing? Are you
- 26:50Speaker 1: willing to pray? God make me willing to night your
- 26:54Speaker 1: life can be changed? And then comes the second question.
- 26:58Speaker 1: If you are willing, are you going in fully to
- 27:01Speaker 1: trust God to night to take you and to begin
- 27:04Speaker 1: this great work in you by letting the life of
- 27:06Speaker 1: Christ have perfect dominion? Are you willing to say? I
- 27:11Speaker 1: want to become all Christ can make me. I want
- 27:14Speaker 1: to please God in everything. I do want Christ to
- 27:18Speaker 1: do his best in me. I want to give myself
- 27:21Speaker 1: to Christ and let him have everything. Will you not
- 27:25Speaker 1: to night believe an everlasting, almighty Christ is waiting and willing,
- 27:30Speaker 1: ready and able to take possession of you. Yes, shall
- 27:35Speaker 1: I not to night claim Christ as my indwelling Lord,
- 27:38Speaker 1: And say, Son of God, why wilt thou not take
- 27:42Speaker 1: me wholly for thyself? It looks hard and dark and impossible,
- 27:47Speaker 1: But I am going to trust thee Thou Lamb of God.
- 27:51Speaker 1: O man and woman you are Christians. Do not be
- 27:54Speaker 1: contented any longer with a half hearted Christianity, saying I
- 27:59Speaker 1: am safe and pardoned. I have got a little of Christ.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I do my best. Oh, come to the full life
- 28:06Speaker 1: that God offers you. Let Christ take entire possession. Let
- 28:11Speaker 1: Christ come in the humble one, the obedient one, the
- 28:15Speaker 1: suffering one, the dying one, the one who lived in
- 28:19Speaker 1: dependence upon God. And say that shall be my life
- 28:23Speaker 1: if Christ will live in me, O God, Lord, I
- 28:27Speaker 1: am willing, and I know thou art willing. I can
- 28:31Speaker 1: trust THEE. O God. Come and may it please God
- 28:36Speaker 1: now in prayer to help some soul to touch Christ,
- 28:39Speaker 1: and bend the heart of God to come in. And
- 28:42Speaker 1: may some souls come to lay this life on Christ.
- 28:46Speaker 1: At Calvary, And say, O, God given up to the
- 28:50Speaker 1: Lord Jesus Christ. Is that blasphemy. No, it is given
- 28:56Speaker 1: up in Christ, and Christ lives in me. God will
- 29:00Speaker 1: make it a truth and a reality. Let us pray
