Transcript
- 0:00Hey Galaxy Crashers, it's Tay. Just a little note from me
- 0:03before we start. There was a little bit of
- 0:05confusion with the ordering of the Busted album, so you are
- 0:09probably expecting without you this week.
- 0:11However, we didn't realise that there were actually 2 versions
- 0:14of this album, one of them being slightly shorter than the other
- 0:17and it actually skipped 2 of the songs, so we're going to add
- 0:20those in. Make sure that you hear every
- 0:22single Busted song from beginning to end.
- 0:24So this episode is going to be when day turns in tonight.
- 0:27Keep your eyes and ears peeled though because the next Busted
- 0:30episode you will be hearing everything I knew before we
- 0:33finally move on to without you and lose a kid.
- 0:36So stick around. It's a great episode, definitely
- 0:38not one to miss. Hello and welcome.
- 0:53You're listening to Galaxy Crashes, the Busted and McFly
- 0:56podcast. The only podcast where the
- 0:59worlds of Busted and McFly crashed together.
- 1:02Hosted by us 2 mums, fuelled by caffeine, chaos and early 2000s
- 1:07nostalgia. I'm Sham.
- 1:10And I'm Tay, and today we are diving back into Busted's debut
- 1:13album, but we're switching up the vibe again.
- 1:17Oh yeah, because today's song is a bit moodier, a bit more
- 1:20thoughtful, and honestly, maybe a forgotten gem.
- 1:25The key there is maybe because I know that we probably have very
- 1:28different opinions on this song. We are talking about when day
- 1:34turns into night. Which already sounds really
- 1:38dramatic. It's giving staring out of a
- 1:42window vibe, like I have thoughts and feelings.
- 1:44Do you know what I mean? It's very much an emotional
- 1:46ballad A. 100% we've left the aliens, we've left the chaos.
- 1:52It's all gone for a second and we're entering the like, life is
- 1:55kind of confusing. Era.
- 1:57Oh yeah. Which, to be honest, we've all
- 1:59been there. Oh yeah, still there, still.
- 2:02There. Well, yeah, on.
- 2:03There's definitely days where I'm definitely 100% back in that
- 2:06moment. But you know, we're all good.
- 2:08Anyway, before we get too deep, how has your week been?
- 2:12Well, we'd spent the week together.
- 2:14We. Did it was so exciting?
- 2:16Well, it wasn't the whole week, but it felt like the whole week
- 2:19because it was such a long amount of time.
- 2:22It squished into two days. Yeah, it was like, how much can
- 2:26you possibly fit into two days while still trying to maintain
- 2:29sleep? Literally.
- 2:32Literally. Oh dear.
- 2:34So much fun. And obviously a lot of it was
- 2:38spent, which to be completely honest, was one of my favourite
- 2:40highlights of the weekend. A lot of it was spent in the
- 2:42car, just me and you singing, which was great fun.
- 2:46Just charming our life away. Exactly.
- 2:49So this week's section is a little bit more interesting as
- 2:52we have been off on our jollies over the weekend to participate
- 2:55in big city life. Oh yes, we have been to London.
- 2:59We have, we have, we have. What a what a trip.
- 3:05What a trip. What a trip.
- 3:07I mean, it was a lot, but, and I'm not going to lie, I'm so
- 3:11tired. Oh yeah, I'm still tired.
- 3:14Also, can I just say, like our listeners right now don't know
- 3:18what's happened, but I'll tell you a tiny snippet that was
- 3:22supposed to be the big the Big Galaxy crashes moment where we
- 3:26met Matt Willis. Failed.
- 3:28We queued up. Taylor had a script to tell the
- 3:31security guard. We we had this whole drama GCSE
- 3:36moment. And because we didn't actually
- 3:38have tickets to the show, because we couldn't afford
- 3:39tickets to the show because they were 90 lbs for back row, we
- 3:42could not afford it. And he wasn't there, so I I
- 3:48said. Despite I was going to say,
- 3:50despite our research, because we did make sure that he was
- 3:53supposed to be at that show and he was only supposed to not do
- 3:56the Thursday that week or Thursday and Friday and then the
- 3:59level doing the other days as well, which was really sad.
- 4:02So we ended up not seeing him at all, which was a really
- 4:04heartbreaking. Really sad, a waste of an
- 4:06anxiety attack. I was it.
- 4:08Really was. I was like, I was so prepared to
- 4:12embarrass myself. Like I'd fully accepted the fact
- 4:15that I would say something stupid like will you marry?
- 4:18Me always do. Actually.
- 4:20Oh, you smell nice, actually. Yeah, I didn't get the chance,
- 4:24no. Yeah, there was that.
- 4:26But never mind, We actually went to London to watch a musical
- 4:29called The Last Five Years, which holds a very dear place in
- 4:32my heart. It's one of my favourite
- 4:34musicals of all time and it starred Ben Platt and Rachel
- 4:38Zegler which was so cool because they are actual like movie stars
- 4:42which is. Pretty.
- 4:43Yeah, like crazy. Yeah, and I dragged you along
- 4:47with me. I know that obviously you know
- 4:49the show and you like the show. There is definitely probably no
- 4:52comparison on how I feel about the show and how you feel about
- 4:55the show. I feel like we're going to go
- 4:56through that again later on in the year, which we will talk
- 4:58about later, but it was absolutely phenomenal.
- 5:02I loved it. I was just very disappointed
- 5:04that they didn't have barriers, a stage door.
- 5:06So when? Oh my goodness.
- 5:09As Mt Girlies, we are very much stage doors.
- 5:12Like we always like to go meet the cast.
- 5:14We always like to go and say well done and say what we liked
- 5:16and have photos and get autographs and like, that's the
- 5:18kind of people we are. We are performers.
- 5:20We love all of that. However, the London podium
- 5:23apparently just didn't put barriers out.
- 5:25So we weren't actually allowed to have Ben Platt and Rachel
- 5:28Zegler come out to meet us. They had to stand by the door
- 5:30and which was really anticlimactic.
- 5:33I'm not. So anticlimactic.
- 5:35I watched a TikTok the other day and it was the guy that tells
- 5:40everyone that they can't come out.
- 5:41He said that the council didn't give them permission.
- 5:45Which got me thinking why these are actual movie stars?
- 5:50Why for this particular show have you not given permission?
- 5:53And it's the London Palladium. It's not like it's just this
- 5:56off, off West End, kind of. Wow.
- 6:01I have been on the gramme today, spent a little bit of time on
- 6:06the ground today and I found a video of them singing Shakes the
- 6:09Goddess, which was amazing. And I spent some time in the
- 6:11comments and I'm not going to lie, they were not nice.
- 6:15So I don't know whether they perhaps were doing it for a sort
- 6:20of protection thing, but there was a lot about how Ben
- 6:24obviously is playing a Jewish role.
- 6:26If you don't know the last five years, he's playing a Jewish man
- 6:29who is who falls in love with a non Jewish woman.
- 6:33I don't know much about Judaism, but I know a little bit about it
- 6:36from the musical. Ben is is Jewish himself and
- 6:41apparently has played a lot of Jewish roles and like uses like
- 6:48his Judaism beliefs to get these roles but apparently isn't a
- 6:51very good person in the Jewish community whereas his brother is
- 6:56like an advocate for Judaism. There was a lot of religious
- 7:01chat in the comments, which obviously is like bit mental
- 7:05considering it's just him performing in a show.
- 7:07And I just, I just made a comment just said, like I'm here
- 7:10to say Ben Platt was fantastic and I think he's very talented.
- 7:13And no matter how you feel about his religious beliefs, let's
- 7:16just appreciate his his talent because you know, he is very
- 7:19talented and I think he's amazing.
- 7:22So, you know, and I did make a comment that said, you know,
- 7:25all, not all people that play Jesus or Judas in Jesus Christ
- 7:28Superstar Christian. So what makes it different just
- 7:32because it's Jewish? I don't know.
- 7:33It's very, it was a lot and there was a lot of political
- 7:35things on the comments. But I think that that may have
- 7:40been one of the reasons that there may not have been barriers
- 7:42up because perhaps it was a bit more of a protection thing
- 7:45because they were probably 70% of the comments were about this.
- 7:49So yeah, pretty brutal. But we loved it.
- 7:53We had the best time ever. And not only did we see a
- 7:57wonderful musical, we did like 20 something 1000 steps in one
- 8:01day walking around. It was phenomenal.
- 8:04Which was? It was.
- 8:04Fun 100% we got to go to places like places like little places
- 8:09like Devon and Cornwall don't have like Popmar and Harrods and
- 8:15you know all the fun. Soho, yeah, Soho we walked down
- 8:20and we went to, we saw the big, the London Eye and Big Ben and
- 8:25we just did all your touristy things.
- 8:27But it was lovely because the majority of the time we were
- 8:31doing them was in the dark. And I can't remember if it was
- 8:34me and you, Taylor or me and Steve were saying that.
- 8:37It's so different being a tourist at night time.
- 8:39Everything just looks spectacular.
- 8:43With all the lights of the city, it's very different to the
- 8:45countrysides of Honiton and Cornwall.
- 8:49Yeah, definitely. 100% it was wonderful.
- 8:52And obviously we took a book out at book, took a leaf out of our
- 8:57wonderful Mr Dougie Poynter's pages of his book.
- 9:00I don't really know what the what the what's the what's the?
- 9:04Took a leaf out of his book. Took a leaf out of his book.
- 9:07Is that right? Is that the why?
- 9:08Is my brain just not working? It's late, it's been a long
- 9:11week. I'm tired.
- 9:12We did 23,000 steps in one day. That's it has still knocked me
- 9:15out. It's been a few days and I'm
- 9:16still knackered. We took a leaf out of Mr Dougie
- 9:19Pointer's book and we went to Bunga 90 after the show, which
- 9:24was, Oh my God, phenomenal and probably the highlight of my
- 9:27weekend, I'm not going to lie. I've not stopped talking about
- 9:30it. I've told my mum, I've told my
- 9:33brother, I've told my friend at work, I've told my friend at
- 9:36work that if I'm not married before I'm 35, then I'm having
- 9:39my 35th birthday there. I'm going to make instead of a
- 9:41hen, I'm going to make 35A thing and I'm going to yes, instead of
- 9:45having a hen party, I'll have a my 35th birthday party there and
- 9:49I'm going to do an all day thing.
- 9:50It's going to be, it's going to be wild.
- 9:53You don't have to convince me I'm there because I had the
- 9:56best. Honestly.
- 9:57It was so good. We were eating in a little Irish
- 10:00bar which was called O'Neill's, which was so nice.
- 10:03The food was great and it wasn't like overly pricey for London
- 10:05because we were expecting like megabucks on food, but it was
- 10:08really nice and we were actually recommended it by a stranger in
- 10:11the street, which was quite fun. We.
- 10:13Just stopped in front of him and we were like, where do we eat?
- 10:15Where do we eat? And he went O'Neill sounds nice,
- 10:18yeah. You should go to O'Neill's.
- 10:21Yeah. So we went in there and then we
- 10:23would, we were like talking about Bunga 90 and I got it up
- 10:26online just because we knew we were going to go anyway.
- 10:28But we sort of, sort of thought we were just going to go for a
- 10:30drink and then come back. And then I realised that there
- 10:32were three karaoke booths and we were like, Oh my God, yes,
- 10:35please. Even though neither of us
- 10:37actually had much of A voice that week.
- 10:40No, I was really. Ill.
- 10:41We got ill at the beginning of the week, so by the end of the
- 10:44week we were just not good, really not good.
- 10:47But you know, we got there in the end.
- 10:49I know it was a bit of a bumpy week in terms of being feeling
- 10:53well for every person in your family.
- 10:56Now my side of the family have it because my daughters ill
- 10:59again now so well, well well and good isn't.
- 11:02It like every other podcast episode, I'm like, Oh yeah, my
- 11:04kids are ill. Oh yeah, I'm ill.
- 11:06And then it's like, Oh yeah, Molly's I'll.
- 11:08Oh yeah, everyone will. Yeah, we're always I'll it's
- 11:10grim, but we pushed through. We went to Bungan IT.
- 11:14We had the best time ever. And if you haven't been on our
- 11:16Instagram and checked out the video of us in the actual store
- 11:20at the top, it's so cool. We actually go on to talk a
- 11:23little bit about this later on in the episode.
- 11:25But we had the best time there. And if you are ever in London
- 11:28and you've got time to go, please do it.
- 11:30Book yourself a karaoke booth if you've got quite a few friends
- 11:33and you book yourself a karaoke booth.
- 11:34But if you don't want to do that, don't worry because
- 11:36there's karaoke out on the main dance floor and that is Oh.
- 11:39My God, we didn't even stay for our whole slot, did we?
- 11:42We just, we were like, let's go join them.
- 11:44It was so much fun just to be with people our age because
- 11:47obviously nearly everybody there was like in their 30s because
- 11:50it's the 90s era and everybody was just loving it literally.
- 11:54So that was so much fun. And and then the next day,
- 11:57obviously we went to Harrods, which was awesome.
- 11:59Haven't been to Harrods before. I bought 2 that were probably
- 12:04the best things I've ever eaten in my entire life.
- 12:06They were so good and I spent £8 on a baguette, which doesn't
- 12:12seem like a lot to most people that live in the city but when
- 12:14you get a baguette from Asda for £4.50 most of the time it was a
- 12:18lot of money to spend on a baguette.
- 12:19But I'm telling you now, it was worth every penny.
- 12:22It was so good. That was 2 meals for you it.
- 12:24Literally did me lunch and dinner.
- 12:26I didn't eat anything else that day.
- 12:27I just ate that baguette. That's amazing.
- 12:31So we had the best time. And then obviously because we
- 12:40live quite far away, I mean, I live a bit further away than you
- 12:44do, but it was a good seven hour drive home for me, which was
- 12:50killer, I'm not going to lie. Luckily there was no traffic,
- 12:53but it was so long. I got home at like 7:00 PM and I
- 12:57was so tired and have been tired ever since.
- 13:00I don't and obviously now my daughter's poorly as well, so
- 13:03that's not helped the tiredness situation.
- 13:04Yeah. Oh, do you know what we should
- 13:06do, Taylor? We should tell them about the
- 13:08parking situation. Oh, the parking.
- 13:11Yeah, that was fun. OK, I completely hold my hands
- 13:17up. It was my fault.
- 13:18I did not check the Airbnb listing.
- 13:21I think the FVV listing was a lovely little flat in a Regents
- 13:25Park because it wasn't far from like the main town.
- 13:28It was only like a few minutes walk to Marylebone station, so
- 13:30it was really close, like right in the centre.
- 13:33But what I didn't check was that it had parking and it didn't
- 13:38have parking. So when we turned up with our
- 13:40car in central London where everything is permit only, we
- 13:45had a little panic. Luckily as we pulled up, there
- 13:48was a lady walking down the road and we literally stopped and our
- 13:51friend Ricky shouted out the window, excuse me love, do you
- 13:54know where we can park around here?
- 13:56And she was like, and she and he said we've booked an Airbnb and
- 13:59she said, are you are you Taylor?
- 14:02And I said, yes, that's me. And she said I'm the cleaner for
- 14:05your apartment. Don't tell anyone.
- 14:07You can park down here and let us park in her.
- 14:12Don't tell anyone. I'm just saying on a podcast
- 14:14where we've got nearly 10,000 listeners, but it's fine.
- 14:16It's all good. It's fine.
- 14:20So yeah, that was a bit stressful, but ended up being
- 14:23really, really good. Thank God.
- 14:25We ended up being pretty lucky and literally party parking
- 14:29right outside the Airbnb. So just a little future tip to
- 14:32anybody travelling to London and staying in an Airbnb, make sure
- 14:35you've got parking or get the train.
- 14:38Yeah, yeah, literally all get the train.
- 14:40Yeah. And to be honest, I'm not going
- 14:43to lie, since we've been back, why am I suddenly tired all of
- 14:48the time? Honestly, I don't know why, but
- 14:51I really really would like to unsubscribe from this tightness.
- 14:56No free trial, just cancel it. I'm done.
- 15:01It's time for this or that and today it's all about those late
- 15:06night overthinking vibes, which is pretty much where we've got
- 15:09the ideas for some of these Thistle pads.
- 15:11We're only going with two today because last week we did 5 and
- 15:15it took way too long and the this or that section was 20
- 15:19minutes long so we're just going to bang it out.
- 15:23Come on, give me yours. OK, up till 2:00 AM, writing in
- 15:27your journal or bed at 10:00 PM with A to do list or ready for
- 15:33the next day. Who are you?
- 15:35What kind of person are you? Well, I'm not on up till 2:00 AM
- 15:40or bed at 10:00 PM because I'm 100% of bed at 8:00 PM.
- 15:45She says at 8:38 PM on a Tuesday evening.
- 15:50Podcast nights are a late night for me.
- 15:53It's my treat. I think I'd say bed at 10:00 PM
- 15:57on the To Do List, 'cause I'm not going to lie, I want to be.
- 16:01I think I said this last week I'd love to be a diary girl.
- 16:04I'd love to be a journal girl. I've tried it so many times.
- 16:07But I tell you what I do love and what does like I can do tick
- 16:14off A to do list. I love A to do list.
- 16:16I love one. I've got so many on my phone.
- 16:19I've got so many. And you know, as we do the
- 16:21podcast, when we get to parts where we need to cut, I'd write
- 16:25it down because otherwise I forget.
- 16:27I love it. Have you?
- 16:28Seen that Mrs Hinch does a undo, I think it's like called an undo
- 16:33list or something like that where she hasn't got herself A
- 16:36to do list so every time she does something she writes it
- 16:39down and ticks it so even if it's something small she doesn't
- 16:43realise she's. Getting better today so
- 16:45sometimes I add things to my To Do List that I've already done
- 16:48so it makes me feel like I've done more in my day.
- 16:51I do that when I used to work in hospitality and I'd like leave a
- 16:55list if I was opening and I was like give myself a list of what
- 16:58to do for the day. Just to make.
- 16:59Myself seem so good to the person that was doing the
- 17:02clothes. I would write everything I've
- 17:04already done and then tick it and then everything that needs
- 17:08to be done and then I'd tick half it off and be like, oh,
- 17:11I've just done so much this morning.
- 17:13So do you mind doing the last few years?
- 17:17I love that and that's me. I do it at home.
- 17:19So like because you do as like especially when you're at home,
- 17:22if you're like you've got the day off your partner's at work
- 17:24or whatever. Like I, I titivate all the time.
- 17:28Like I'm always doing something. I'm never just sat doing nothing
- 17:30when I'm at home, but when my husband gets home, it's little
- 17:33things that he's not going to notice, like I'm going to Skype
- 17:36boards. Yeah.
- 17:38Literally like tiny little things like that.
- 17:41Like, seriously, like to the point where if I don't tell
- 17:44myself that I've done it by putting it on my list, I'm like,
- 17:47has what have I done today? Yeah, I do.
- 17:50That have I done anything? Today, like such small things,
- 17:53even like washing the dog dog's bowls out, like his food and his
- 17:56water bowls. I do it every like couple of
- 17:57days. I wash his water bowls, water
- 17:59bowl out and like and make sure it's really, really clean and
- 18:01washed like all around it. So you know, he it's a nice
- 18:04place for him to eat. He's a dog.
- 18:05He'd probably eat shit, but equally you know.
- 18:10I know I've. Done it.
- 18:11Yeah, and like wiping the inside of the bin lid, that needs to be
- 18:14done. The bin is disgusting, but it's
- 18:16something you're not going to notice because who's looking
- 18:18inside the bin lid apart from me?
- 18:19Yeah, it's just me. It's those little things.
- 18:24So I agree. I'm definitely at bed at 10:00
- 18:26PM, actually at 9:00 PM with a do.
- 18:30It's ready for the next day. Good.
- 18:32OK, go on then. Hit me with yours.
- 18:34So mine's not really that emotional, but like, I think
- 18:37it's quite serious. So my Thistle that is finding
- 18:42unknown artists that only tour small arenas or a big famous
- 18:48artist that perform in stadiums. Oh.
- 18:52That's so difficult because I'm like smack bang in the middle,
- 18:56yeah. Because.
- 18:58We went to the Eras Tour, which was freaking insane and I loved
- 19:03every minute of that. But I spend all of my time
- 19:06thinking about the tiny little gigs for McFly or Busted or like
- 19:11when you talk about when you went to see Youngblood and it
- 19:13was really like small, intimate venues.
- 19:15I love those shows. I love those shows.
- 19:18They hit different but. Then again, what could you
- 19:20imagine seeing Taylor Swift in like Bristol O2 I?
- 19:25I would literally combust them a pavilion.
- 19:28Can you imagine? And that's what I mean.
- 19:30Like, we saw you meet at six at Plymouth.
- 19:32Like, I saw Kelly Clarkson there when she, like, became famous.
- 19:35I like imagine Kelly Clarkson playing Plymouth now.
- 19:39I know. Well, exactly.
- 19:41I saw you meet six on their tour, obviously with you in
- 19:44Plymouth but also at like Exeter University.
- 19:48Exactly. Such like tiny little venues.
- 19:51I love, I love an intimate arena.
- 19:53Yeah, I'm definitely going to say I'm the smaller, smaller
- 19:57tours are definitely one for me rather than the big stadiums.
- 20:00But equally did enjoy the Eras Tour.
- 20:03My first McFly show I went to was the Up Close and Personal
- 20:07tour where they only smaller like up close and personal
- 20:12venues. Yeah, so.
- 20:14Good. So good.
- 20:15And I didn't go to that tour. That was, I can't remember what
- 20:17year was that? That was a long time ago, wasn't
- 20:19it? I think.
- 20:21It was 2000 and eight 2007, something like that.
- 20:25So it. Was naughties.
- 20:26I thought it was like a good a couple of years after their
- 20:28first album came out, but it wasn't quite the 10s yet.
- 20:32A good era to be in an intimate tour.
- 20:35Exactly, it was the year or the year before year, the year of or
- 20:39the year after that. The Heart Never Lies came out.
- 20:43I remember I had the CD that was shaped like a love heart.
- 20:47Oh yes, I remember that one tattoo.
- 20:49Well, there you go. There you go.
- 20:51That's where it all started. That's where it all.
- 20:53Started and now I'll never look back.
- 20:57It's time for Song of the Week. And this week we are talking
- 21:02about when Day turned into Night by Busted.
- 21:05Oh yes. Now I know we have a bit of a
- 21:09difference of opinion about this song.
- 21:10I think we've already like, we haven't really talked about it
- 21:13because we actually let you in on a secret, forgot we were
- 21:17doing this song and we started planning to do a different song
- 21:20and then realised that we'd skipped a couple because on some
- 21:22of the albums, this song isn't actually on all of Busted's
- 21:27debut albums. It was on like a special edition
- 21:29or like a second edition almost. It wasn't on.
- 21:32The very. Very original.
- 21:33So we thought we were actually moving on to Without you, but
- 21:37we're not. There's a couple more in between
- 21:38before we get there. So I to be completely honest, I
- 21:42think this one feels a little bit different to the majority of
- 21:47Busted songs. However, I do think there's a
- 21:49little bit of a similarity between this one and losing you.
- 21:53And obviously when we get to without you, I think we'll see a
- 21:56bit of a correlation there as well.
- 21:57Do you feel, do you feel my vibe?
- 21:59Yeah, 100. Percent, 100%.
- 22:01The rest of the album so far has been very, Not all of it has
- 22:05been fun, but it's been very felt like came from a younger
- 22:11person's kind of perspective. This is the first song that
- 22:13feels kind of grown up, yeah. Completely.
- 22:16I think that's a really good way of putting it.
- 22:18It's not like, I don't know, I feel like this is a moment where
- 22:23they've stopped and they've actually started to slow down
- 22:25and like process like a feeling, like an emotion rather than just
- 22:29like. Getting it all out.
- 22:31You know, like we think about like what I go to school for and
- 22:34like that early powerful, you know, those big songs of the
- 22:38beginning of the album. And even if when you think about
- 22:41it, even songs like Britney were quite like soppy in a way, but
- 22:46like, they're not soppy, are they?
- 22:48Because they're, you know, funny at the same time, Whereas this
- 22:51is actually just emotional. There's not really a funny side
- 22:54to this. It's a bit like losing you.
- 22:56It's a bit like without you feel like there's a bit of a mirror
- 22:59there when it comes to those songs.
- 23:02Can we say that my, should we just go?
- 23:05Should we go straight, straight to ratings?
- 23:09I feel like, I don't know. I feel like for me, I never
- 23:14really understood this song. I feel like maybe when I was a
- 23:18teenager I heard it. To be honest, it was probably a
- 23:21skip song for me when I was younger because the Busted that
- 23:24I loved was the year 3000 Busted the what I go to school for
- 23:28Busted the Britney Busted. It wasn't the losing you like,
- 23:32and when day turns into night inside of Busted, I feel like I
- 23:36had other artists that hit those sort of emotional ballads for
- 23:40me. You didn't need busted for that.
- 23:42Yeah, no. I think I was probably like, Oh
- 23:44yeah, this is a good song. But now I'm like, oh, it's real
- 23:48feelings and it's not sad, it's not happy.
- 23:52It's just like overthinking. Do you get what I mean?
- 23:55So 100%. I feel like.
- 23:58It's definitely not a favourite for me.
- 24:00It's not, it's not top tier, it's definitely not God tier.
- 24:04I'm going to go for mid tier, I'm going to go for a 5, maybe
- 24:07even a four. Yeah, now let's go four and a
- 24:10half, 4.5. I'm going to meet in the middle.
- 24:12It's a good enough song, but it's not a favourite.
- 24:17OK, so my I thought our ratings would be a lot more different
- 24:20than they are. They are different, but I
- 24:23thought there would be a bigger gap.
- 24:26I thought you were going to put this quite high.
- 24:27That's why. Oh, OK.
- 24:30I am not going to lie to you, I thought I was such a huge busted
- 24:38fan. I thought I could wear my busted
- 24:41Badger of Pride. But when I saw we were doing
- 24:43this and I listened to it, I was like, what the I've never heard
- 24:46this in my life. Oh, really?
- 24:48Don't even know this song. I think I, I obviously have had
- 24:52it because I had like, I was like ACD Collector.
- 24:56So I had this version of the album.
- 24:59The original album, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:02So I've definitely had it and I had it in my little Walkman.
- 25:04I used to go listen to it everywhere.
- 25:05So I definitely have heard it. But it must have been such a
- 25:11minor song for me because when I re listened to it the other day
- 25:16I forgot it existed. I didn't.
- 25:18I can't correlate ever listening to this song.
- 25:21This song is probably unfairly. I think I would give this song
- 25:27A2 or a three because I think, I think if I listen to this song
- 25:32now often it would probably be higher.
- 25:35I think it's quite a well written song.
- 25:37It's very grown up, it's very mature for the album.
- 25:40But. I can't say I'm I like the song
- 25:43when I can't even remember it exists.
- 25:47OK, I get that. I feel like, to be honest, I
- 25:50thought you were going to rate it lower and I thought it was
- 25:51because you just didn't like it. Knowing that you don't know it
- 25:54and that's why you've rated it low makes me appreciate you
- 25:57more. I feel.
- 25:59I feel OK with it. Like I said, it's not a bad
- 26:02song. I like the song.
- 26:03It's not like I wouldn't listen to it.
- 26:04I just feel like with all the other Busted songs that we've
- 26:07got coming and the ones that we've already had, I don't feel
- 26:09like I can rate it above a 5. I feel like it has to be lower
- 26:12than a 5 because there's just so many Busted songs that I love
- 26:16and we've already discovered along the way that I'm probably
- 26:19more of a Busted fan than you were.
- 26:21Slash are I know that. I feel.
- 26:24Like I discovered McFly fru busted whereas and I know that
- 26:28you sort of did as well because of McFly supporting Busted, but
- 26:31I feel like your love for Busted probably drifted whereas your
- 26:34McFly love grew. Whereas I feel like my, my, my
- 26:39busted love stayed the same for a really, really long time.
- 26:42And McFly sort of like carried on going up and up and up.
- 26:46And I do feel like I love them both very much.
- 26:49I do feel like I am more of a McFly girly now, especially
- 26:52after having so much of them. But back then and like, when I
- 26:55think of nostalgia and I think of like myself as a teenager,
- 26:58like a young teenager, I definitely was obsessed with
- 27:02Busted. Oh, A. 100% And you know what?
- 27:04So my thing is, I love Busted. I think they're phenomenal.
- 27:08I'm not gonna like down put them down or anything because they
- 27:11are one of my top five bands of all time.
- 27:14However, in my house when I was younger, I was the McFly girl,
- 27:18my brother was the Busted boy. And then together I can see that
- 27:21we listened to that music. Yeah, like.
- 27:24I listened to. Busted all the time because of
- 27:28well, because I liked it, but also because that's what he
- 27:30chose to play. But yeah, McFly, I like hyper
- 27:34fixate. So when I like something, I love
- 27:37it. And like for example, when we
- 27:39went to the ears to all I listened to for like a whole
- 27:41year was Taylor Swift because I like that hyperfix.
- 27:44Hey I do exactly the same. Yeah, so I.
- 27:48Just I think when I was younger I was probably doing the same.
- 27:51So I was listening to Busted a lot.
- 27:53Like I said, I I was the CD collector.
- 27:55I had all the originals. I sent off the bottle tops to
- 27:57get the Britney special edition. Yes, you did.
- 27:59I. Yeah, I saw I proper loved them,
- 28:02but in my heart of hearts I was if there was a McFly album that
- 28:06was getting played first, Yeah, like.
- 28:09That's how I, yeah, I, that's how I see it in my head.
- 28:11Like if you had to choose, you would have chosen McFly, whereas
- 28:14if I had to choose back then, I would have chosen Busted.
- 28:17Now I feel like I'm a very different person.
- 28:19I've grown, definitely grown. And my, my taste in music is
- 28:22very similar. I think I just appreciate McFly
- 28:24in a different way because they've been going for so long
- 28:26and I love who they are as people and not just their music.
- 28:29Whereas like, obviously we know a lot and like my love for Matt
- 28:32Willis will never, ever fade. And I love, I love all of
- 28:36busted. And then we all know I'm a James
- 28:37Bond girl. If we, I'm missing James so much
- 28:40that it's like, not that you can forget him, but like, there's
- 28:44just a massive gap in like my, my love for busted because he's
- 28:48just not here. And like, it's so depressing
- 28:50because we, we have to leave him alone.
- 28:52You have to let him have his time.
- 28:53You have to let him recover. We don't know what it is that
- 28:55he's dealing with. We have to give him his privacy
- 28:57and respect about the same time. Oh my God, it would be so nice
- 29:01to have an update. I would just love to know that
- 29:03he's OK. Just like I would just like, hey
- 29:06guys, I see you. I hear you.
- 29:08And I appreciate you for giving me my time.
- 29:11Like I just want to know not that he's OK because he might
- 29:14not be OK and it's OK not to be OK.
- 29:17But like, I just want to know that he sees what the fans feel
- 29:24for him. And he like, it's it's not like
- 29:28he's delete. Like, you know how Ed Sheeran
- 29:29just got rid of his phone and you just didn't see anything for
- 29:32years? I want I'd, yeah, I do love
- 29:34that. But I'd love to know that James
- 29:37is receiving the love that we are giving.
- 29:43Yeah. 100% and just we're not just giving it into the.
- 29:46Oblivion, you know it would give.
- 29:47Did you see that? He posted, he changed the
- 29:50caption didn't he on his? Post.
- 29:53And how I can't even remember what it was he changed, but
- 29:58remember we us discovering that. And then in July last year, he
- 30:03made a post on his Instagram that said captioned it was
- 30:07pictures of him growing up, like when he was little, pictures of
- 30:11him with Matt, pictures of him in the band, pictures of him
- 30:15with son of dork, like all of him like his him growing up.
- 30:19And it said underneath 1991 to 2025 biopic in the works.
- 30:24And it had a popcorn and like a movie snap thing.
- 30:28So there was. Obviously something planned for,
- 30:33I don't know, like a biopic of some sort, like, you know, like
- 30:36some. And how amazing would it be?
- 30:40To. I don't know.
- 30:41I want to know I want to know if that's still happening like
- 30:44obviously that was a while ago now that's like nearly a year
- 30:47ago is July last year. I want to know if that's still
- 30:50going on and obviously he's probably not recording it or
- 30:53doing it because he's been so I'll but oh, I miss him so much
- 30:57man I know sucks. So much.
- 30:59And we've got one of our yeah, love love you future boy, one of
- 31:04our Instagram friends slash followers slash who we follow
- 31:08Gwen. She's her Instagram name is Gwen
- 31:12loves JB and the love I have for her.
- 31:14I don't even know her, but the love I have for her, the love I
- 31:16have for you, Gwen. I know you listen, the love I
- 31:18have for her for for the love that she has for James Bourne
- 31:21unmatched. Absolutely appreciate her so
- 31:23much for that. So good.
- 31:26But I think that's it for me. I, I really love, I love James
- 31:30so much, but I feel like Matt has grown so much more on me
- 31:33over the last sort of three or four years because he's doing so
- 31:37many different things in the public eye now.
- 31:39And we see him with Love Is Blind, we see him with On the
- 31:42Mend, we see him in the celeb British Sabotage and like doing
- 31:45all the other podcasts and being in theatre and like seeing Matt
- 31:48in musical theatre is like 2 worlds colliding.
- 31:52It's just so great. I love.
- 31:54It and also I think it's as well, when we were younger we
- 31:58saw Matt as Matt Willis, but now we see what he went through
- 32:03whilst he was in the public eye when we were younger and I think
- 32:06we it's easy to love him when you can appreciate his recovery
- 32:11100. Percent.
- 32:12Oh my God. I have a different like level of
- 32:14respect to that man since I'm his wife.
- 32:17End up. Yeah, my God, his family like
- 32:19since he's opened up. And I love how cautious they are
- 32:22with their family and their children and being in the public
- 32:24eye. Emma Willis is something else.
- 32:26It's really funny. I was with my mum today.
- 32:28We were in Falmouth, and I walked past Spec Savers and her
- 32:32face was in the window. Or it might have been Spec
- 32:34Savers or Vision Express. I'm not sure which one it was,
- 32:36but it was like a beautiful picture of her with some lovely
- 32:38glasses on. And I went, oh, Emma Willis.
- 32:40And my mum was like, who? I was like, yeah, just Matt,
- 32:43Matt Willis's wife. She was like, are you OK?
- 32:47And then spent like 15 minutes talking to my mum about how much
- 32:50I love Emma Willis. I don't think she appreciated it
- 32:55as much as you would have appreciated it.
- 32:57But still, it's OK. Thanks, mum.
- 33:00But I think, I think like, back to the song, it was a good song.
- 33:03We, we definitely were given a glimpse into the more emotional
- 33:07side of Busted, which I love. And I think we start to lose
- 33:11that as the albums go on. I don't feel like we get.
- 33:13Oh yeah. The emotional.
- 33:15Side of them as much we get the funny we get the sort of pop
- 33:19rock I. Think she wants to be me as so
- 33:21emotional. Falling for You, like one of my
- 33:25favourite songs of all time. I love Falling for You so much.
- 33:28But it's like, it's emotional but not emotional at the same
- 33:30time. It's like funny, comicy, gimicky
- 33:33kind of love. And you know, it's that sort of
- 33:35thing, isn't it? So I feel like we did get a bit
- 33:37of a glimpse into, you know, that side of them there.
- 33:40But, you know, I'm still happy to give it a 4.5.
- 33:43There's still many more Busted songs to come that deserves
- 33:46higher ratings. And I will say if I could
- 33:50remember exists my might have been higher so.
- 33:55We'll just leave it at that, OK, It's time for McFly in the wild.
- 34:01Now. We haven't done this for quite a
- 34:03while, have we, this segment, but we thought that we would
- 34:07bring it back this week because we need to talk about one of our
- 34:10favourite people. Oh yes, this week we are yet
- 34:14again talking about the one the only Carrie Hope Fletcher.
- 34:20OK. We know we've spoken about her
- 34:22before. We're sorry if you don't know
- 34:25who she is or if you're not into the theatre side of things.
- 34:28We just, we can't, we cannot ignore this fact.
- 34:31And you all need to know, OK, It just, it needs to come out.
- 34:34We need to speak about it. We know we speak about her
- 34:37YouTube channel occasionally. We know we talked about how me
- 34:40and Shannon went to meet her and Shannon very, very, really
- 34:43embarrassed herself to, I say to a degree, but it was to a very
- 34:47large degree. And I promise I will.
- 34:50I'll never let you forget that you told Carrie Hopefletcher,
- 34:53I'm sure. You were.
- 34:54You were. Sorry that you were ugly.
- 34:57I still apologise for that. I know, I know.
- 35:00But we have to bring her back up again this week because we are
- 35:04going to talk about her new role as Jenna in the musical
- 35:07Waitress. Oh my God, this.
- 35:10Is so huge because not only is she incredibly talented, but
- 35:17stepping into a role like this is such a big moment.
- 35:20And also, if you don't know me personally, then you probably
- 35:24don't know that this is my literal, literal favourite God
- 35:28Tia, like everything else is here and she's like, it's my the
- 35:35best show I've ever seen, my better favourite soundtrack,
- 35:38everything. So this crossover is massive in
- 35:43my head. And then if you do know me,
- 35:45well, I'm sorry because I literally haven't shut up about
- 35:49this since the casting announcement and I won't until
- 35:52we see it. I can, absolutely.
- 35:54Attone to the fact that she has not shown up about it, I won't.
- 35:57Stop and. Obviously from everything we've
- 36:01seen so far, which is minimal obviously, because it's not
- 36:04been, it's only been like a week or something since she debuted,
- 36:06isn't it? She's just, I can't even talk
- 36:10about how amazing she is. The vocals, the emotion, her
- 36:15acting, she just like fully embodies the whole role of Jenna
- 36:18and I think. I think being.
- 36:21The mother of a toddler as well has had an obvious clear impact
- 36:27on her acting in this role. Because I think some of the
- 36:29songs and like, I've never actually seen the musical, which
- 36:32obviously you know, Shannon. However, I have listened to the
- 36:35soundtrack and I have like, I think I've always picked a few
- 36:37songs to listen to. However, last week on the way
- 36:40back from London, I was really happy because the boys that we
- 36:42were with were really chill in the back playing their games and
- 36:45happy enough to just sit there and you were like, I'm putting
- 36:47waitress on. And I was like, yes, I listened
- 36:50to the whole soundtrack from beginning to end with you
- 36:53absolutely bawling your eyes out beside me the whole way.
- 36:57And I felt like as a mum just hearing those songs for the
- 37:01first time, hearing some of those lyrics, Obviously I've
- 37:04heard the big ballads like she used to be mine.
- 37:06But hearing like little little lyrics, like there's one lyric
- 37:11where she says we were both born today.
- 37:14And every time I hear it, I've got actual, I've got literal
- 37:17goosebumps as I say it because you are born as a mother, you're
- 37:21like reborn when your child is born, you're reborn as a
- 37:24different person. You'll see yourself, but
- 37:25obviously you're completely different.
- 37:27And I feel like. I feel like.
- 37:30With Carrie, I feel like you can see that in the way she's
- 37:33performing it. You can see the emotion talked
- 37:35about the fact that you've said, you know, you've seen videos of
- 37:38her doing it and she's like always crying and always really
- 37:40emotional because you're going to be when you're a mum.
- 37:43And like hearing those songs as a mother just hit in a
- 37:46completely different way. Yes, this musical is about a
- 37:49woman who is a waitress, but it's not about that.
- 37:51It's about her becoming a it is, but it is about her becoming
- 37:56like a different version of herself as well.
- 37:58And I think there's so beautiful and it's a version of herself
- 38:01that she was not ready to be, but she became that version and
- 38:04she embraced it so fully, which we all do because sometimes we
- 38:08aren't ready. Sometimes we are.
- 38:10Sometimes we plan it. And even when we think we're
- 38:12ready, we aren't. I can tell you that right now
- 38:14because I'm not ready for the pain, painfulness of being a
- 38:18mother. And you know, I think if you are
- 38:22a mum and you haven't heard the soundtrack, where have you been?
- 38:24Please get on Spotify and listen to it right now.
- 38:27And obviously, it's really lovely seeing another member of
- 38:32the extended Mcfy family thriving in the world of theatre
- 38:36yet again, because they just hold such a dear place in my
- 38:40heart. As you know, although she's
- 38:42always in the. Theatre.
- 38:42But it's lovely to see her like, you know, and like, I just feel
- 38:45like a proud mum with her name, Body, yes.
- 38:49The. Front of the poster, do you know
- 38:51what I mean? Oh God, I just love her.
- 38:52So much proud mum. I know, and this also feels like
- 38:56the perfect moment to scream into the mic and tell everyone
- 39:00that we have officially booked tickets to see Carrie and
- 39:04Waitress. I can't.
- 39:07I literally. Can't wait.
- 39:09Oh, I'm. So excited.
- 39:10This was such big. News for us because we we knew
- 39:15she was doing the tour, we checked dates for everywhere and
- 39:18obviously for us being so far the other end of the country we
- 39:24our nearest place to go where Carrie was performing was
- 39:27Cardiff. Now Cardiff for us is a four
- 39:29hour journey. It is not just around the
- 39:31corner, it's not even a couple of hours, it's 4 hours.
- 39:34Now bear in mind we both work in education, so taking a day off
- 39:37is impossible. And we also exactly, and we have
- 39:41children, which also is very difficult to navigate when
- 39:44you're a parent and you have to leave your child at home with,
- 39:47you know, other family members or your partner and they've also
- 39:49got work and all these things going on.
- 39:51So going to Cardiff was one of those things that we were like,
- 39:54we have to go, but how the hell are we going to do it?
- 39:57We didn't book it, we haven't booked it and we've been like
- 40:01prolonging it for so long. And then I'm so glad we.
- 40:04Did on our way back. From London, there was an
- 40:07announcement as I was driving. Shannon turns to me and goes
- 40:12day. I'm like, what?
- 40:15Carrie's extended her dates. Oh my God.
- 40:17And then we're watching the video and we just hear her say
- 40:19Bristol and we just went. I was like, everyone shut up.
- 40:24I need to know what extend means because are you doing more at
- 40:27the end or are you filling in the gaps for the people we don't
- 40:31know? Exactly, so we found out that
- 40:34she's playing at Bristol which means it's only just over 3
- 40:37hours for us. So it's a little bit closer but
- 40:39also we have family Bristol friends in Bristol so it's
- 40:41easier for us to stay. We are so excited and tell you
- 40:45now if you could have seen slash her Shannon sobbing.
- 40:50I've never seen you look so emotional, I think.
- 40:54In the car, I can, I can quite remember, I like literally told
- 40:57everyone shut up. And then we heard that anybody
- 40:59was talking. A little squeal.
- 41:01No, I did like, a little squeal. And then you were like, Shannon,
- 41:05are you OK? And I just looked up to you
- 41:07like, like in a movie, like through my eyelashes.
- 41:09You could just sit. At the Water Puppy Dog.
- 41:12Tears down my face. And then I was like, we are
- 41:18listening to the entire soundtrack and I think I cried
- 41:21that it was great. I don't know, Probably every
- 41:23song, even though even the funny ones love you like a table.
- 41:27I was like a table. Love.
- 41:28You like a table and then by the.
- 41:30End. I was also crying.
- 41:31We were just sobbing our way through air.
- 41:33It was great. Many a times you and Steve said
- 41:37to me, if you can't make it through the soundtrack, how are
- 41:40you going to make, how are you going to do?
- 41:42I didn't the first. Time I didn't make it through
- 41:44and I did say as. Well, I think because we went to
- 41:47see my emotional show in London. Yeah.
- 41:49So you saw me and like the last five years is very much
- 41:52whiplash. It's like sad song, funny song,
- 41:55sad song, funny song, sad song, funny song all the way through.
- 41:57So you're like crying your eyes out and then it's hilarious and
- 42:00you're like, oh, whiplash. But you know that that that
- 42:03musical for me is like my kryptonite when it comes to me
- 42:06being an emotional wreck. I'm very excited that I'm
- 42:08finally going to get CU and yours.
- 42:11I'm going to take when I. Saw it the first time I met Lucy
- 42:15Jones at the end and I literally said to her, I was, I was like,
- 42:20I love you, I love you, I love you.
- 42:21I think you're the most amazing person.
- 42:23And I just got all of these words out.
- 42:26And then she just looked at me and went, thanks.
- 42:32I was like, you've done it again.
- 42:35But like I was just I had to talk to.
- 42:37Us and that's we've already discovered it.
- 42:40Yeah, I was just, I was like in awe.
- 42:42Like, I don't know how anyone can get through that show
- 42:47without crying. Genuinely.
- 42:48Especially especially if you're a mother.
- 42:51Especially if you've gone through a hard time in a
- 42:55relationship. Yeah.
- 42:57Especially if you've got three. Like if you've got your Donna's
- 43:01Dynamos, I call them, like your 3 amigos, 3 pals you've got.
- 43:05Yeah, you're like little tight knit group of people that you're
- 43:09like, you could call it 2:00 AM If you've got all of those
- 43:13things, how do you make it through that show without
- 43:16crying? Oh, I've never seen it.
- 43:18So I'm so excited to like piece it together.
- 43:20I'm excited for. You to see it, you know when you
- 43:22hear. Parts of a show and like I was
- 43:24the same when I went to see Finding Neverland.
- 43:26I felt like I knew the show because I can sing every single
- 43:29song from beginning to finale. Like every single song.
- 43:33But I was not prepared for the storyline at all.
- 43:35Mine was the same for dear Evan Landon.
- 43:38Yeah, you. Plan it in your.
- 43:39Head you'd think you know what the story's going to be about,
- 43:41but then they Add all these things in that you weren't
- 43:44prepared to do and that even the staging of it is so different
- 43:46and it oh God, I can't wait. I'm so excited, and to be
- 43:49honest, there are absolutely no complaints coming from me.
- 43:51I'm happy to see Carrie Hope Fletcher in anything.
- 43:54I would watch her in the worst play possible.
- 43:57I would sit through hours of Shakespeare and watch her in
- 44:00that because she is phenomenal. And it's going to be just before
- 44:04your birthday, which is even more exciting because it's
- 44:07something to celebrate too. So there we go.
- 44:09My God. Let's just don't hope I don't
- 44:11cry at her again at stage at all.
- 44:13It's. Going to happen.
- 44:14Let's just leave it there. Welcome back to.
- 44:18One of our favourite nostalgic segments.
- 44:21The lost songs of the naughties, indeed.
- 44:24And this section has had a little bit of a revamp because
- 44:27we're going to be swapping around each week from lost songs
- 44:30to lost movies to lost TV shows of the naughties, because we
- 44:33know how much you guys love it. Absolutely.
- 44:35And there are so many gems to discuss, we thought we'd make it
- 44:40a regular segment indeed. And as we said earlier on in
- 44:44today's episode, we headed over to Bunga 90s in London after the
- 44:49recommendation of Mr Dougie Pointer.
- 44:51Thank you very much, Dougie, because it was ever loved it.
- 44:55Boy, did we have a blast. And while we were in there, we
- 44:57looked around at all the old videos and CDs.
- 45:01And also, while we're here, I should probably say sorry to
- 45:03those of you that were born after 2003 because you probably
- 45:06don't know what I'm talking about when I say videos and CDs
- 45:08because videos dire. Death.
- 45:11Then yeah, literally. But we looked around at so many
- 45:13lost gems. There were videos of S Club,
- 45:16Club 7 on tour. As soon as I saw that, I was
- 45:19like, so good. I can remember calling.
- 45:20Steve over. I was like Steve.
- 45:22Steve, come and look at this literally I can remember.
- 45:25Being a young teenager dancing on my friend's sofa to the S
- 45:30Club 7 video on to like the tour video.
- 45:33We used to put it on and we used to play it so loud in her living
- 45:35room because her step parents had this massive sound system.
- 45:38We just stand on the sofa singing and then we used to love
- 45:41S Club Juniors as well, which obviously was a little bit later
- 45:44of. Equally great.
- 45:45There were old episodes of like, Brookside on video there, There
- 45:50was teen movies galore like you would never believe, and so many
- 45:53albums that that had been forgotten in the CD section.
- 45:57It just really got me thinking about old school days when we
- 46:00used to have those little portable CD players on US 24/7.
- 46:04Oh yeah. So good.
- 46:06So good So. Good.
- 46:08Yeah, it was. I actually really liked, yeah, I
- 46:13loved downstairs, but Upstairs was so good.
- 46:16Oh yeah. To me, upstairs felt like you're
- 46:18nostalgia or nostalgia literally.
- 46:20Like complete complete the neon. Lights and the little
- 46:25PlayStation with like it was the PlayStation one with the little
- 46:28games like Yeah and the Sega Mega Drive.
- 46:31Like actually working as well. I remember Steve was playing on
- 46:34it. I was like give me the
- 46:35controller. No.
- 46:39Haven't played with this for so long.
- 46:41Yeah, it was amazing. So we.
- 46:43Thought that we'd talk about old songs from when we were younger
- 46:47and what we heard. And I've been talking to my
- 46:49partner about this in the car. We've just been like going forth
- 46:53back and forth about songs that we like and we we're on quite a
- 46:57nostalgic journey. We've been listening to like old
- 46:59school R&B in the car recently, which has been absolutely
- 47:03wonderful. Yeah, absolutely.
- 47:05Although I he's slid in, I'm going to say it's for me, but it
- 47:09probably is for him. He slid in a couple of Jonas
- 47:11Brothers songs and I was like, OK, now I know what your
- 47:15childhood was like. He stepped.
- 47:17Up another level in my estimation, I know.
- 47:20Well done mate. And.
- 47:22What came on the other day? Oh, we were listening to that
- 47:26playlist and it's on his Spotify.
- 47:28So I never know what's coming next.
- 47:29And what came on next was the Rasmus.
- 47:32Do you remember the Rasmus in the Shadows?
- 47:37I thought we could talk about that today because that song.
- 47:41It's it's not even the song for me, it's the whole album.
- 47:44Like this album is pinnacle emo tae like nice.
- 47:50Slidy. Fringe like top and bottom,
- 47:52black eyeliner like white powder.
- 47:56You have the cat. Yes, like in.
- 47:58The inside and then it used to just make like glute put on the
- 48:01inside of your eyes. It was grim.
- 48:03I used to have like, even like the fake cuffs on my ear, you
- 48:06know, like would go like all the way up.
- 48:08The sweat bands, the little studded collars, the belts, the
- 48:13buckles, the buggy trousers, the skate shoes with the big thick
- 48:17laces. Oh my God, I was living the
- 48:20dream. The Rasmus came to me through an
- 48:26old crush. I used to have a crush on this
- 48:28guy in my class, bear my nose in like year seven or eight.
- 48:32He was called Ricky hilarious. And imagine if he listens to
- 48:37this. The only thing I ever told him I
- 48:38had a crush on him. So weird.
- 48:40We actually ended up becoming we ended up becoming really good
- 48:43friends and like nothing ever became anything.
- 48:48We were just really good friends.
- 48:49And it's really lovely because like obviously I don't know him
- 48:52anymore, but I see he's got family and stuff now and I'm
- 48:54like, oh, it's so lovely. I had like the weirdest crush on
- 48:57this guy. He was like.
- 49:00Not that he wasn't. Attractive, I was ugliest in in
- 49:03year 7. So do not get me wrong, I'm not
- 49:05there was no not saying he was ugly, but like he had like
- 49:08really long hair, like sweepy, like Emory hair, but he had like
- 49:12blonde highlights in it and it was almost like like.
- 49:16Patchy like. Boy band highlights can't even
- 49:19really work out what it was, but I digged it.
- 49:23Obviously I digged it. I dug it.
- 49:26I. Dug it.
- 49:27Now he, I liked the Rasmus and I can remember him saying to me,
- 49:32have we listened to the Rasmus? And I was like, Oh no, I have
- 49:35never listened to the Rasmus. I don't know.
- 49:36I when I tell you I ran to the CD shop and I bought that album
- 49:41and I had to get home and I listened to nothing but that CD
- 49:44for weeks on end. Now in our school in our form
- 49:48group, we every day we had form like where we would get together
- 49:52and do our like form tutor group sessions.
- 49:56Our teacher would allow one of us to bring in an album and play
- 50:00one of our favourite songs from that album.
- 50:03Oh. I can, this was my album.
- 50:05This was my album and I absolutely, I think he brought
- 50:09the album in and played In the Shadows and I brought the album
- 50:12in and played Guilty, which was another one of the socks on it.
- 50:16I remember everybody in that class looking at me like, are
- 50:19you OK, babe? I was in a class why really
- 50:24popular boys and girls that would listen to literally like
- 50:27mainstream pop and R&B, and I'm like that.
- 50:33I. Love that I would have been
- 50:36there with you. Yes, exactly.
- 50:38And like there was, I had one friend who was like into that
- 50:41sort of rocky music and the only other person that appreciate it
- 50:45was Ricky. And there you go.
- 50:47That's all I needed. I needed my little team crush to
- 50:50appreciate it and who did? So there we go.
- 50:53It worked. I mean, not that it worked
- 50:54because we didn't end up together.
- 50:55I didn't even have the guts to tell him.
- 50:57I thought could have been. But that song, I remember that
- 51:01song being such an earworm to the point where people would
- 51:04just walk around the corridors going.
- 51:07Overtime, yeah, I think that was so my mum, my mum, she probably
- 51:13won't mind me saying that. She listens to this podcast and
- 51:16actually she loves a good shout out.
- 51:18She tells me every every time she hears it, she's like, oh,
- 51:20you shout me out. Hey, Mama.
- 51:21Johns, we love you. She at 1:00.
- 51:24Point had Do you remember that song?
- 51:27That was like, I like the way you move?
- 51:32So she had that as her ringtone and then her text tone was just
- 51:40honestly, that was so love. That I'm here.
- 51:43I feel like I have. PTSD from hearing that little
- 51:47bit from my mum's phone going off all the time.
- 51:49Because it was back in the days where I feel like it was like
- 51:52you got 100 characters in a text message and it was like 30 free
- 51:57texts a day. And so my mum would like finish
- 52:01work and she'd come home and she'd be texting like, I don't
- 52:03know who her colleagues who would think my dad, but he was
- 52:06in the same room. So who knows?
- 52:08Like a benzie. Mate, so it's probably like me
- 52:11and you now well Benzie mate M8 Yeah and it would just.
- 52:18Come constantly go oh, oh, oh, oh, and I'd be like because you
- 52:23could buy your. Ringtones and text tones back
- 52:25then because I think she. Did I think the numbers on the
- 52:28back of a magazine? Yeah, I remember.
- 52:30I remember that so well. What a song.
- 52:34Do you remember the little the guitar bit was like?
- 52:40I can. Always remember that, like
- 52:41little riff at the beginning. So good.
- 52:44Yeah. What a voice, though.
- 52:46What a voice. His voice was incredible.
- 52:48I used to absolutely love that song.
- 52:50So there we go. If you haven't listened to In
- 52:53the Shadows by the Rasmus and you've got a little emo streak
- 52:56in you, go on Spotify, have an actually go on YouTube and have
- 53:00a watch of the music video because that was also banging.
- 53:03That was like a. Proper naughties music video
- 53:06wasn't it. I just remember there being.
- 53:07Like lots of like crows and stuff.
- 53:10I don't know whether that was this one or whether that was
- 53:12guilty, but that was very much his.
- 53:14Like that was this one. Ghost he was.
- 53:16Very dark, yeah, very Pagan, I was thinking.
- 53:21Very CBBC's Raven. I feel like he was going.
- 53:25Home and getting out his like Norse God cards and like you
- 53:29know his crystals like bit like me now.
- 53:32You are what is he called? What is the van called?
- 53:37Rasmus the Rasmus. You are the Rasmus.
- 53:41I was trying to tip my head. Down.
- 53:43I don't know his name if I brushed it.
- 53:45All forward and just sort of like did this, then I'd probably
- 53:47go away with it. Well, there we go.
- 53:51You never know. This is foreshadowing of our
- 53:55podcast in the future. Me.
- 53:57Turning into an e-mail again. I'm here for it.
- 54:00I'm here. I know you are.
- 54:02I know you are too. So there we go.
- 54:07So here we are, at the end of yet another episode.
- 54:12Thank you so much for listening. We have loved having you here
- 54:15with us every week and. If you enjoyed this episode,
- 54:18don't forget you can follow us on Spotify and it really, really
- 54:21helps push our podcast out to new people.
- 54:24Oh yeah, and next week we are heading back over to McFly for
- 54:27one of our favourites from this album.
- 54:30But apparently an unpopular opinion amongst McFly fans.
- 54:35Some people are not big fans of this song, but we are chucking
- 54:39on our wet suits, we're grabbing our boards and we're heading
- 54:42Outback Man to catch some waves. Because next week it's Surfer
- 54:47Babe. Oh my goodness.
- 54:49I cannot wait, but until then, keep your playlist loud and
- 54:55happiness. In your hearts, goodbye, bye.
