- 0:03Speaker 1: Hi again, everybody on Dan Horde and thanks for downloading
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Bengals Booths Podcast, the Dream on Dream On, Dream

- 0:17Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengals are headed to the Super Bowl, let me
- 0:21Speaker 1: say that again, the Cincinnati Bengals are headed to the
- 0:24Speaker 1: Super Bowl. Coming up, you'll hear radio replays, postgame comments
- 0:29Speaker 1: and analysis from my broadcast partner Dave Lapham after a
- 0:32Speaker 1: thrilling overtime win over the Chiefs in Kansas City. Then,
- 0:37Speaker 1: in this week's fun Fact segment, you'll hear from a
- 0:39Speaker 1: guy who just joined the team last week and has
- 0:42Speaker 1: made an impact in the first two road playoff wins
- 0:45Speaker 1: in team history. The Bengals Booth Podcast is presented by
- 0:48Speaker 1: Ultimate Bengals, the free to play Next Level Fantasy Football game,
- 0:52Speaker 1: downloaded now from the App Store and Google Play, and

- 1:00Speaker 1: Fell Visit on location exp dot com for exclusive access
- 1:05Speaker 1: to the biggest events in the NFL all season long,
- 1:08Speaker 1: including Super Bowl fifty six. And here's a quick reminder
- 1:12Speaker 1: that you can have the latest edition of this podcast
- 1:15Speaker 1: delivered write to your phone, tablet, or computer by subscribing
- 1:18Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcasts. It's the greatest thing since
- 1:23Speaker 1: burnt ends. Burnt ends are a barbecue specialty in Kansas City.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Here's a description that I found on the internet. The
- 1:32Speaker 1: ends of a brisket are thinner than the middle part
- 1:34Speaker 1: and therefore cook faster, and after long hours in the smoker,
- 1:38Speaker 1: the ends get well burnt. These crunchy, heavily caramelized, intensely
- 1:44Speaker 1: smokey endpieces are delicious and I had them at lunch
- 1:49Speaker 1: and dinner the day before the AFC Championship game. It
- 1:53Speaker 1: was the second best part of my trip to Kansas City,
- 1:57Speaker 1: a very distant second best. If you listen regularly to
- 2:01Speaker 1: this podcast, you know that I usually do a very
- 2:04Speaker 1: detailed recap of the game, mixing highlights with postgame interviews.
- 2:08Speaker 1: With a six am flight to catch on Monday, I'm
- 2:11Speaker 1: going to make it a little less time consuming this week.
- 2:14Speaker 1: You'll get all of the radio replays first, followed by
- 2:17Speaker 1: some of the postgame comments. After that, it's analysis from
- 2:21Speaker 1: Dave Lapham, and then a really good edition of fun
- 2:24Speaker 1: Facts with Bengals newcomer Zach Kerr. First, the highlights of
- 2:29Speaker 1: the Bengals' biggest win in thirty three years. Today, for
- 2:34Speaker 1: the first time in thirty three years, the Cincinnati Bengals
- 2:37Speaker 1: are one win from going to the Super Bowl. But
- 2:41Speaker 1: to get there, they will have to beat one of
- 2:43Speaker 1: the game's all time greatest coaches and a twenty six
- 2:47Speaker 1: year old quarterback with supernatural talent, and they'll have to
- 2:51Speaker 1: do it in the world's loudest outdoor stadium. It's the
- 2:56Speaker 1: AFC Championship Game and it's time for the pigskin to
- 3:00Speaker 1: lie here at Arrowhead Stadium. Mahomes drops back to throw,
- 3:04Speaker 1: looking over the middle, scans left, scans right, takes off
- 3:07Speaker 1: running toward the sideline, chucks it into the end zone,
- 3:11Speaker 1: caught near the back pylon by Tyree Hill. Touchdown Kansas City.
- 3:16Speaker 1: A thirty two yard try from the right hash for
- 3:19Speaker 1: Evan Almighty Evan McPherson. He has been perfect in the postseason.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Kevin Huber ready for the snap, catches, puts it down.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Evan McPherson's kick launched high and true. It is good
- 3:30Speaker 1: and the Bengals are on the scoreboard. With thirty six
- 3:33Speaker 1: seconds left in the first quarter, third down in two
- 3:36Speaker 1: from the five, Mahomes back to throw, does a little
- 3:39Speaker 1: shoulder shake a hunder pressure running backward. He's at the nineteen,
- 3:43Speaker 1: now charges forward, throws into the end zone. Touchdown. Travis Kelsey.
- 3:49Speaker 1: That's just backyard ball. That's out of the schoollyard in
- 3:53Speaker 1: the plate ground. Mahomes under Summer Clyde Edwards Hilaires the
- 3:56Speaker 1: running back. They fake to him. Mahomes throws it, is
- 4:00Speaker 1: caught and it's a touchdown. McCall Hardman racing toward the
- 4:04Speaker 1: forward right pylon, caught it at the one and ran
- 4:08Speaker 1: it in for the three yard score. You know the
- 4:10Speaker 1: thing about this Kansas City Chiefs offense talk about speed.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Speed can stretch you vertically, it can also stretch you horizontally.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I mean they are so fast you burrow back to
- 4:21Speaker 1: throw short pass caught by p Rhyan p Rhyne down
- 4:24Speaker 1: to the thirty sideline. Twenty fifty and ten five touchdown
- 4:30Speaker 1: Bengals some Maj p Rhyne taking a short pass forty
- 4:36Speaker 1: one yards to the house from the one yard line
- 4:40Speaker 1: with five seconds left and a half. Mahomes throws Hill,
- 4:44Speaker 1: catches at the six and gets tackled thin bounds and
- 4:48Speaker 1: the cock rights out. A very questionable decision by the
- 4:53Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs. They threw it sideways to Tyree Hill
- 4:57Speaker 1: and the Cheetah could not get in or get out
- 5:01Speaker 1: of bounds. Eli Apple with a tackle at the one
- 5:04Speaker 1: and the Bengals dodge a bullet as Kansas City drives
- 5:08Speaker 1: to the one, runs two plays and fails to score.
- 5:12Speaker 1: This will be a thirty one yard attempt from the left.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Hash mc pherson one for one in this game, nine
- 5:18Speaker 1: for nine in the postseason. Clark Harris snaps it to
- 5:21Speaker 1: Kevin Huber. The kick is on its way from mc
- 5:23Speaker 1: pherson and it is good and the Bengals have pulled
- 5:27Speaker 1: within eight. Shotgun snap Mahomes passes defected and ticked off
- 5:33Speaker 1: the Bengals half the ball half the twenty seven b J.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Hill comes away with a football and the Bengals get
- 5:40Speaker 1: a takeaway, down by eight. With two eighteen left in
- 5:45Speaker 1: the third quarter, third down in goal, the ball just
- 5:48Speaker 1: inside the Kansas City three. Shotgun snap to Burrow, throws
- 5:51Speaker 1: it into the end zone for Chase. He leaps, He's
- 5:54Speaker 1: got it, touchdown down Bengals with fourteen seconds left in
- 5:59Speaker 1: the third quarter, and now the Bengals can go for
- 6:02Speaker 1: two to try to tie this game. Trent Taylor goes
- 6:06Speaker 1: in motion from right to left. He's in the game.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Shotgun snap, Burrow throws the Taylor might open. He's got
- 6:13Speaker 1: it now the forward left pylon. It's a two point
- 6:16Speaker 1: conversion and the Bengals have climbed back from a twenty
- 6:20Speaker 1: one to three deficit to tie this game. I'll tell
- 6:24Speaker 1: you what, just the simple out route and they lost him.
- 6:27Speaker 1: They lost track or Trent Taylor. Third down and seven
- 6:30Speaker 1: for the Bengals at their own twenty three. Burrow waiting
- 6:32Speaker 1: for a shotgun snap. Samaj A p Rhyme lines up
- 6:35Speaker 1: to his left. Two receivers left, two out to the right.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Burrow back to throw. Burrow grab gets away from a sack,
- 6:41Speaker 1: scrambling left, being chased, gets away again, hunting up the sideline,
- 6:45Speaker 1: sticks out the ball with his right hand and gets
- 6:48Speaker 1: the first down. Just passed the line to gain. Chris
- 6:51Speaker 1: Jones had him dead to rights. Jones gets to his
- 6:54Speaker 1: feet and he can't believe he did not get Joe
- 6:58Speaker 1: Burrow to the ground. Sneaky. This is a fifty two
- 7:01Speaker 1: yard try for the twenty two year old kid from
- 7:03Speaker 1: Fort Payne, Alabama. The snap, the put down, the kick,
- 7:07Speaker 1: It has the distance. Baby it is good God. The
- 7:12Speaker 1: Bengals have the lead for the first time with six
- 7:15Speaker 1: minutes and four seconds to go. On third and goal
- 7:18Speaker 1: from the nile. Mahomes catches the shotgun snap, retreats back
- 7:22Speaker 1: to the eighteen, looking around in the end zone. Nobody
- 7:25Speaker 1: opened yet no pressure at all. Now here comes the rush.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Mahomes way back at the twenty five. It loses the ball.
- 7:31Speaker 1: The Chiefs fall on it at the twenty six, two
- 7:34Speaker 1: seconds on the clock and regulation. Butcker is ready the snap,
- 7:37Speaker 1: the put down. The kick is on its way. It
- 7:41Speaker 1: is good and we are headed overtime. Tied at twenty four,
- 7:47Speaker 1: the Bengals send three cover with eight Mahomes deep down
- 7:51Speaker 1: field for the Cheetah. It's deflected and intercepted by von Bell.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Bell running in the middle of the field of the
- 7:57Speaker 1: forty forty five, taken down with a high tackle by
- 8:01Speaker 1: Kelsey at the forty five yard line. No penalty flag,
- 8:04Speaker 1: but the Bengals come up with an overtime interception and
- 8:08Speaker 1: now could win the game on a field goal. Four
- 8:11Speaker 1: years ago, he was a senior in high school in
- 8:14Speaker 1: tiny Fort Payne, Alabama. Now the Bengal Super Bowl chances
- 8:18Speaker 1: rest on his right foot, the kick is up. Yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 1: if good Coffin nails, bam bam. That is unblievable. The
- 8:33Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengals come from behind on the road, unbelievable. Dan,
- 8:39Speaker 1: it is no fluke, It is a fact. The Cincinnati
- 8:44Speaker 1: Bengals are headed to Super Bowl fifty six. They just
- 8:50Speaker 1: redefined the word resilient. The Bengals Booth podcast is presented
- 8:55Speaker 1: by Ultimate Bengals, the free to play fantasy football game.
- 8:59Speaker 1: This year, Ultimate Bengals awarded a weekly winner during the
- 9:02Speaker 1: course of the season, with tickets, autograph merchandise, and money
- 9:07Speaker 1: can't buy experiences all up for grabs. Find Ultimate Bengals
- 9:11Speaker 1: in the App Store and Google Play. Now time to
- 9:15Speaker 1: hear from several Bengals, beginning with Cincinnati native Sam Hubbard.
- 9:19Speaker 1: The Chiefs had the ball at the four yard line
- 9:21Speaker 1: with one twenty six to go before Hubbard came up
- 9:24Speaker 1: with back to back sacks that knocked Kansas City backward
- 9:28Speaker 1: and forced the Chiefs to settle for a game tying
- 9:30Speaker 1: field goal. I mean, we're going to the Super Bowl,
- 9:34Speaker 1: and it sounds crazy to say that. I think when
- 9:36Speaker 1: you say that, it's just hard to believe. And we're here,
- 9:41Speaker 1: you know. I love this team, I love this city,
- 9:44Speaker 1: and we got one more to get to get it all,
- 9:48Speaker 1: and I'm just on cloud nine right now. The Chiefs
- 9:52Speaker 1: won the coin toss in overtime, but unlike last week
- 9:54Speaker 1: against Buffalo, did not drive for a game ending touchdown. Instead,
- 10:00Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes was intercepted by Von Bell. They're gonna make plays.
- 10:05Speaker 1: You know, they're here for a reason. You know, they've
- 10:07Speaker 1: been in the Super Bowls, They've been in the big games.
- 10:08Speaker 1: They know how to win. They're gonna find a guy.
- 10:10Speaker 1: They're gonna make plays. But we're gonna make plays too.
- 10:13Speaker 1: And when you have the opportunity to go out there
- 10:14Speaker 1: and make them and seize the moment. And like I said,
- 10:17Speaker 1: it's calmed down, make the plays that come to you,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and everything else go unfold. High posts unfold. And we
- 10:22Speaker 1: just stuck to it. Man. We never batted eye, never
- 10:25Speaker 1: had doubt, lean on one another, just going out there,
- 10:27Speaker 1: just having fun playing with each other. For the fifth
- 10:30Speaker 1: time this year and the second week in a row,
- 10:32Speaker 1: the game ended on a game winning walk off field
- 10:35Speaker 1: goal by Mick Fearless Evan McPherson, who has made all
- 10:39Speaker 1: four of his field goal attempts in three straight playoff wins.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I didn't say anything this week, but you know, it's
- 10:46Speaker 1: going through my head that there's probably a good chance
- 10:47Speaker 1: that we're going to go into the super Bowl, And
- 10:50Speaker 1: you know, it's just it's so surreal that, you know,
- 10:52Speaker 1: this game came down to a field goal. And obviously
- 10:56Speaker 1: it wasn't just me. You know, our defense put us
- 10:58Speaker 1: in a great position with the interception, and then our
- 11:00Speaker 1: offense obviously I had a lot of commidants in them
- 11:03Speaker 1: that they were going to drive it down, and you know,
- 11:05Speaker 1: either I thought we were gonna score. You know, that's
- 11:07Speaker 1: what I was telling a lot of people, you know,
- 11:08Speaker 1: were this game You're gonna do on a on a touchdown,
- 11:10Speaker 1: not a field goal. Joe Burrow completed twenty three of
- 11:14Speaker 1: thirty eight passes for two hundred and fifty yards, with
- 11:17Speaker 1: two touchdowns and one interception. He was only sacked once
- 11:21Speaker 1: and hit four times. But here's the stat that really matters.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Burrow has already led the Bengals to three playoff wins
- 11:30Speaker 1: that ties Boomer as Siason's team record, and like Boomer
- 11:34Speaker 1: and Kenny Anderson, Burrow is taking the Bengals to the
- 11:37Speaker 1: super Bowl. I wouldn't call it surreal. I would say
- 11:41Speaker 1: it's exciting. You know. I think if you would have
- 11:44Speaker 1: told me before the season that we'd be going to
- 11:46Speaker 1: the super Bowl, I probably would have called you crazy.
- 11:48Speaker 1: But then you know, we played a whole season and
- 11:51Speaker 1: you know, nothing surprises me. Now I know the kind
- 11:52Speaker 1: of guys that we have and the team that we have,
- 11:54Speaker 1: so you know, there's there's still one left. We're excited
- 11:57Speaker 1: about this one, but you know, we'll celebrate to nine
- 12:00Speaker 1: and then move on. The final word comes from head
- 12:03Speaker 1: coach Zach Taylor. First of all, I'm happy for this
- 12:06Speaker 1: team and everyone in an organization. But you can't help
- 12:09Speaker 1: but think about all the people back in Cincinnati celebrating
- 12:12Speaker 1: right now, and all the people that were here. It
- 12:14Speaker 1: felt like half the stadium, you know, at the end
- 12:16Speaker 1: of the game, when the game was over and all
- 12:17Speaker 1: of our fans got down there. Uh, it was. It
- 12:19Speaker 1: was a special moment. So happy for the city of Cincinnati.
- 12:22Speaker 1: They've waited for this moment, they've supported us waiting for
- 12:25Speaker 1: this Momentum couldn't be happier that that. Hopefully we can
- 12:30Speaker 1: get them all out to LA We can figure that out,
- 12:31Speaker 1: get the planes, the shuttles, the trains. Whatever we gotta do.
- 12:34Speaker 1: We gotta get all this people out to LA because
- 12:36Speaker 1: we know we're gonna be playing a California team. And
- 12:38Speaker 1: I know the fans were all probably hoping for the
- 12:40Speaker 1: forty nine Ers, because what better way to go than
- 12:43Speaker 1: than the most recent one that they had um But
- 12:45Speaker 1: either way, it's it's gonna be fun and we're gonna
- 12:47Speaker 1: have to have our best on that Sunday in the
- 12:49Speaker 1: Super Bowl. So appreciate the fans. Couldn't wouldn't be here
- 12:52Speaker 1: without them. The Bengal Super Bowl opponent will be the
- 12:55Speaker 1: Los Angeles Rams on the Rams home field, the second
- 12:59Speaker 1: year in a row that the NFC champion his host
- 13:01Speaker 1: did the Super Bowl. The Rams advanced with a twenty
- 13:04Speaker 1: to seventeen win over the forty nine Ers. That means
- 13:08Speaker 1: Zach Taylor will be coaching against his former boss Sean McVeigh.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Now time for postgame analysis with my broadcast partner Dave Lapham.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Lap I got the impression that at the end of
- 13:20Speaker 1: the game, you're feeling was the same as mine. I
- 13:23Speaker 1: can't believe that this team is going to the Super Bowl.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I really can't either, Dan. I mean, you look at it.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Two years ago, the Drugs of the NFL two wins,
- 13:33Speaker 1: I'm going eleven to begin with. Yeah, I mean, it's
- 13:37Speaker 1: as dramatic a turnaround as in the NFL has ever seen.
- 13:39Speaker 1: It really is. It's indescribable. Hat's off to all of them.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Hat's off to everybody. The thing, the thing that they've
- 13:47Speaker 1: done so well is when they had when they got
- 13:51Speaker 1: the opportunity, they enjoyed it, had fun, maximized it, played loose,
- 13:58Speaker 1: were resilient. All the things you needed to do they did.
- 14:02Speaker 1: It's it's just it's mind boggling. And when you think
- 14:04Speaker 1: about how young they are at key positions, at key spots,
- 14:09Speaker 1: the coaches too. I mean, it's really wild, it really is.
- 14:13Speaker 1: It's a It's a heck of a story. Hollywood and
- 14:17Speaker 1: could Hollywood could not write a better script than what happened.
- 14:20Speaker 1: It's it's amazing. So in the first half, the Chief's
- 14:23Speaker 1: offense was a hot knife through butter. First drive eighty
- 14:26Speaker 1: four yards touchdown, Second drive seventy five yards touchdown, Third
- 14:30Speaker 1: drive seventy two yards touchdown. Fourth drive, long drive down
- 14:34Speaker 1: to the one yard line, and they get nothing. How
- 14:36Speaker 1: much did that play and that decision change the momentum
- 14:40Speaker 1: of this game. I think it was the determining factor.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I think it was the turning point in the football
- 14:46Speaker 1: game for them to uh, you know, three touchdown passes
- 14:49Speaker 1: in the red zone from a home bone bone bone
- 14:51Speaker 1: and then get in the red zone and trying to
- 14:55Speaker 1: kind of outthink himself be a little bit too cute?
- 14:57Speaker 1: Did Andy Reid and that play? The design of that play,
- 15:01Speaker 1: it's all or nothing and they got nothing out of it.
- 15:04Speaker 1: And honestly, you can question a lot of things. You
- 15:07Speaker 1: can question the decision to do it, the play selection,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and it's amazing that Eli Apple made the play they
- 15:14Speaker 1: made in space on a guy that's is incredibly athletic,
- 15:19Speaker 1: is Tyreek Hill. I mean, I don't know, if you
- 15:22Speaker 1: throw it out there a hundred times, you think Tyreek
- 15:25Speaker 1: Hill would probably make the play a high high percentage
- 15:28Speaker 1: of it of the time. But Eli Apple, when it counted,
- 15:31Speaker 1: you step it up and made the play. And really
- 15:34Speaker 1: in the playoffs, he's been a big playmaker. I mean
- 15:37Speaker 1: he has made he's he's flashed, I mean, he's he's
- 15:39Speaker 1: jumped off the tape, There's no question about it. It
- 15:42Speaker 1: was also his past interference penalty to put the ball
- 15:44Speaker 1: at the one yard line. So you talk about making
- 15:46Speaker 1: up for your mistake, Holy cow, no question, no question.
- 15:50Speaker 1: And that's that's the epitome of resiliency. You know, it's
- 15:54Speaker 1: like compartmentalizing, all right. You know, I've can't do anything
- 15:58Speaker 1: about what I've done. All I can do is what
- 16:00Speaker 1: I'm about to do and try to make restitution. All
- 16:03Speaker 1: I can control is the future. The past is done,
- 16:06Speaker 1: no more control of that anymore. And man, to think
- 16:12Speaker 1: of all the guys that made how about Sam Hubbard
- 16:15Speaker 1: back to back sacks at the most crucial time of
- 16:17Speaker 1: the football game. That's just amazing. When they rushed through
- 16:22Speaker 1: and drop eight, I mean, plastering the receivers, Holmes having
- 16:25Speaker 1: nowhere to go at the football. They really must have
- 16:29Speaker 1: disguised things a lot differently in the second half, because
- 16:32Speaker 1: it looked like it was a puzzle that he couldn't
- 16:34Speaker 1: even come close to solving, whereas in the first half
- 16:36Speaker 1: he was just decisive and ripping it. In the second half,
- 16:40Speaker 1: he never felt good about anything that he was looking
- 16:43Speaker 1: at down the football field. So hats off to lou
- 16:45Speaker 1: Anna Rumo the defensive staff for tweaking things, making the
- 16:49Speaker 1: adjustments that they made. And making life tough on Mahomes
- 16:53Speaker 1: and for the players for executing it all. But man
- 16:58Speaker 1: twenty one to three close to the end of the
- 17:01Speaker 1: half and to score, you know, to make it an
- 17:04Speaker 1: eleven point game at halftime. You thought, well, you know,
- 17:07Speaker 1: they get the ball to start the third quarter. If
- 17:09Speaker 1: you can stop, make a stop there and cut it
- 17:12Speaker 1: to a one score game, you have a shot. And
- 17:13Speaker 1: that's exactly what happened. Crazy. So in the first meeting,
- 17:17Speaker 1: twenty eight points in the first half, three in the
- 17:19Speaker 1: second half, and this one twenty one points in the
- 17:21Speaker 1: first half, three in the second half. But the difference
- 17:23Speaker 1: is in that first game, the Bengals offense held the
- 17:27Speaker 1: ball for almost the entire second half. The Chiefs only
- 17:30Speaker 1: had three possessions. This time, the Chiefs got the ball
- 17:33Speaker 1: plenty of times. Punt, punt, interception, punt, punt, field goal interception,
- 17:40Speaker 1: seven drives, three points, two turnovers with Mahomes, Kelsey Hill, etc.
- 17:47Speaker 1: It really is incredible. Uh, you know, you look at
- 17:49Speaker 1: the turnovers and then the play at the at the
- 17:52Speaker 1: end of the first half that we talked about with
- 17:54Speaker 1: Andy Reid's decision where no points in the red zone.
- 17:57Speaker 1: I mean that's three takeaways. You talk about three possessions
- 18:01Speaker 1: that you that you steal without allowing any points to
- 18:04Speaker 1: the Kansas City Chiefs. That's what you had to have
- 18:06Speaker 1: happened that that was one of the pieces of the
- 18:09Speaker 1: formula I think for success. And I was absolutely stunned though.
- 18:14Speaker 1: You know, Bengals come from behind fourteen nothing, twenty one seven,
- 18:19Speaker 1: twenty eight, fourteen in Cincinnati, that's one thing. But to
- 18:22Speaker 1: go on the road at Arrowhead and be down twenty
- 18:25Speaker 1: one three in that place and to come back and
- 18:28Speaker 1: uh and win the football game. It's it's just it's
- 18:33Speaker 1: incomprehensible and describable. It's in everything. I mean, it's it
- 18:37Speaker 1: is as wild a script as I've ever seen written,
- 18:40Speaker 1: that's for sure. What can you say about Joe Burrow,
- 18:44Speaker 1: I mean, for what he's done for the city, for
- 18:46Speaker 1: the franchise, for the future of the franchise, It's really
- 18:50Speaker 1: hard to put into words it is. I mean, I
- 18:52Speaker 1: don't think i've ever seen well I shouldn't say, because
- 18:55Speaker 1: you know, I haven't been in Bengals history anyway, but
- 18:59Speaker 1: I'm sure it was that way with Peyton Manning. But
- 19:01Speaker 1: Peyton Manning's rookie year, he led the NFL in interceptions,
- 19:04Speaker 1: you know, and they won two games. But you know,
- 19:06Speaker 1: you could see what you might have in Peyton Manning.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Joe Burrow. I mean, in the ten games he played,
- 19:11Speaker 1: he was he was making noise, as he would put
- 19:14Speaker 1: it at that time. Right away, he just jumped right
- 19:16Speaker 1: in and was he was getting it done. Yeah. I
- 19:21Speaker 1: don't think I've ever seen one piece as impressive and
- 19:28Speaker 1: as important as what Joe Burrow has done. I mean,
- 19:31Speaker 1: he believes, so they all believe, you know, as as
- 19:37Speaker 1: the great Paul Brown said, winning makes believers of us all,
- 19:41Speaker 1: and Joe Burrows a winner. Joe Burrow, you know he
- 19:45Speaker 1: got to the state championship game, lost in the shootout,
- 19:47Speaker 1: to put up crazy numbers. What he did at LSU,
- 19:50Speaker 1: what he's doing here. This guy. The bigger the game,
- 19:54Speaker 1: the more he steps up, the more he believes, and
- 19:57Speaker 1: it's contagious and teammates believe at that point in time.
- 20:01Speaker 1: You've known Mike Brown for nearly fifty years. What do
- 20:05Speaker 1: you think's going through his mind? Yeah? I think he's
- 20:10Speaker 1: He's desperately wanted this to happen, I think for a
- 20:13Speaker 1: long time, and I think he's just his mind's probably blown.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I mean, it is mind boggling to think that this
- 20:25Speaker 1: year that they took it as far as they did.
- 20:28Speaker 1: I mean, I think he was expecting improvement, like all
- 20:30Speaker 1: of us. But I don't think that in his wildest
- 20:32Speaker 1: dreams he could think could have thought that back in
- 20:36Speaker 1: August and September that this team was going to the
- 20:38Speaker 1: Super Bowl. I just you know, it's I don't know
- 20:40Speaker 1: how you can go there, how you can get there.
- 20:41Speaker 1: You can hope, but to actually, you know, have a
- 20:44Speaker 1: true feeling, true belief that that was going to be
- 20:46Speaker 1: the case. So, I mean, I would think at the
- 20:50Speaker 1: stage of his life that he's at, there could not
- 20:53Speaker 1: be a better gift from Mike Brown than what he's
- 20:56Speaker 1: experiencing right now. I mean, he probably feels like a
- 20:59Speaker 1: kid again. And it was pretty cool to see him
- 21:02Speaker 1: up on that stage hugging Zach Taylor, hugging Icky Wood,
- 21:05Speaker 1: saying what a moment for Mike Brown and h and
- 21:09Speaker 1: everybody in his family. And then there's Zach Taylor six
- 21:13Speaker 1: twenty five and one in his first two years that
- 21:16Speaker 1: ranks with among the worst records of any coach in
- 21:20Speaker 1: history in their first two years, and now in year three,
- 21:23Speaker 1: he's taken this team to the super Bowl, and these
- 21:25Speaker 1: guys love them. You know, It's it's amazing. Like Zach
- 21:30Speaker 1: has said, if you were with almost any other organization
- 21:34Speaker 1: in the NFL, he wouldn't have gotten a third body
- 21:36Speaker 1: of the Apple, wouldn't have gotten a third year. But
- 21:38Speaker 1: Mike Brown believed, and Mike Brown is patient and persistent
- 21:43Speaker 1: in his belief. So you look at what kind of
- 21:48Speaker 1: a feeling must there be between Zach Taylor and Mike
- 21:51Speaker 1: Brown right now? I mean that's you talk about bonds
- 21:54Speaker 1: that are made. That's that's a bond that is unique.
- 22:00Speaker 1: It'll it'll never be broken. They'll never forget any of it. Uh.
- 22:04Speaker 1: It's it's life changing, to say the least. Just to
- 22:10Speaker 1: imagine the resiliency and the determination that it took to
- 22:16Speaker 1: get from where they were to where they've gotten to
- 22:19Speaker 1: in such a short period of time. I mean, the
- 22:22Speaker 1: perfect storm had to happen. It was the perfect year
- 22:25Speaker 1: to go too and fourteen because you got Joe Barrow
- 22:28Speaker 1: and then you know, make some improvements and you can
- 22:30Speaker 1: get a guy like Jamar Chase and it's like wow.
- 22:33Speaker 1: But then all the other stuff they did in free
- 22:36Speaker 1: agency and the draft, they just made a lot of
- 22:39Speaker 1: really good decisions in a short period of time here
- 22:44Speaker 1: to turn this thing around. It's almost it's almost impossible
- 22:48Speaker 1: to you know, predetermined or track of course that they took.
- 22:52Speaker 1: And man, they hit everything out of the park. Everything
- 22:55Speaker 1: they did, not everything, but a high, high percentage of
- 22:59Speaker 1: most things they did turned out to be the right thing.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Just unbelievable. Here's a stat that speaks to the resiliency.
- 23:06Speaker 1: That's only the second time in the last thirteen postseason
- 23:11Speaker 1: overtime games that the team that lost the coin toss
- 23:15Speaker 1: won the game. Second time in the last thirteen postseason
- 23:20Speaker 1: overtime games. It's such a huge advantage to get the
- 23:23Speaker 1: ball first, where you can score a touchdown and win,
- 23:26Speaker 1: or maybe get two possessions of one whatever it might be.
- 23:28Speaker 1: For the Bengals to come up with the interception first
- 23:31Speaker 1: Von Bell and then to calmly drive down the field
- 23:34Speaker 1: into chip shot field goal range is remarkable. It is
- 23:37Speaker 1: it is, I mean, to get a turnover after you
- 23:41Speaker 1: lose the coin toss is you know, I don't know
- 23:45Speaker 1: what the analytics guys would say, but it's got to
- 23:47Speaker 1: be minuscule percentage wise for that to take place. And man,
- 23:55Speaker 1: Von Bell, he got his, finally got his, you know,
- 23:58Speaker 1: I mean, Jesse Bates had gotten his, Pratt had gotten his,
- 24:02Speaker 1: Wilson had gotten his. So in the middle of the
- 24:04Speaker 1: football fields where a lot of that stuff takes place normally,
- 24:07Speaker 1: and you know, I was hoping Von Bell might get
- 24:09Speaker 1: his and in the red zone before the end of
- 24:12Speaker 1: the football game. But it was the next possession, and
- 24:15Speaker 1: it was a massive possession for him to take the
- 24:18Speaker 1: football away like he did, and for the Bengals to
- 24:20Speaker 1: finalize it. They were man once they started sensing that
- 24:26Speaker 1: they could finish the football game. I mean, I've been
- 24:30Speaker 1: there and that you start to swell up a little bit,
- 24:32Speaker 1: you know, you come off the scrooms a little bit harder,
- 24:34Speaker 1: and Joe Mixon was running a little bit harder, and
- 24:36Speaker 1: then it's like, you know, now we got it. We
- 24:38Speaker 1: got these guys on our heels and on their heels,
- 24:41Speaker 1: and we're gonna finish this thing. We're gonna finish in
- 24:43Speaker 1: a big way. How about b J Hill too? More
- 24:46Speaker 1: return on that trade for Billy Price. Just before the
- 24:49Speaker 1: start of the regular season, Tips have passed to himself
- 24:52Speaker 1: intercepts it at the Kansas City twenty seven leads to
- 24:55Speaker 1: the tying touchdown in two point conversion with fourteen seconds
- 24:58Speaker 1: to go in the third quarter. I mean a lot
- 25:00Speaker 1: of times, you know, it's always like who's going to
- 25:03Speaker 1: make a play? What player is going to make a play.
- 25:06Speaker 1: And if you had said before the game, if you
- 25:08Speaker 1: took a poll of I don't know the entire Bengals nation,
- 25:12Speaker 1: how many people would have said, BJ Hill is going
- 25:14Speaker 1: to tip a ball to himself and set the team
- 25:17Speaker 1: up for a huge play. I mean, that's that's the
- 25:19Speaker 1: beauty of a team sport like that. You know, you
- 25:22Speaker 1: have twenty two moving parts and everybody's capable. And BJ
- 25:28Speaker 1: Hill he had his moment and when his moment basically
- 25:33Speaker 1: made itself present to him, he capitalized, you know. I
- 25:37Speaker 1: mean the thing is he not only tipped it to himself,
- 25:39Speaker 1: he followed it, caught it, finished it. I seen many
- 25:43Speaker 1: times we've gotten, you know, the particularly lineman and tip
- 25:45Speaker 1: it to themselves and can't even really finish the play.
- 25:48Speaker 1: But BJ Hill it was. That's that's something that Hill
- 25:52Speaker 1: remember the rest of his life. He will always be
- 25:55Speaker 1: when they show highlights of the AFC Championship game in
- 26:00Speaker 1: twenty two season, b J Hill will be a guy
- 26:04Speaker 1: that they show that was amongst the big plays in
- 26:07Speaker 1: that football game. It's huge. Here's something I would like
- 26:10Speaker 1: to know. What made the coaches think to put Trent
- 26:14Speaker 1: Taylor into the game for the two point conversion? The
- 26:17Speaker 1: dude barely plays on offense. I don't think he had
- 26:20Speaker 1: to catch other than the Cleveland game where the subs played.
- 26:23Speaker 1: They put him in in that crucial situation. Eddie's wide
- 26:26Speaker 1: open to catch the two point conversion. What made them
- 26:28Speaker 1: think of Trent Taylor in that situation? That's a good question.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I wonder how long they had worked on it. I
- 26:34Speaker 1: wonder how many reps that he had taken. Yeah, all
- 26:38Speaker 1: those things are her good questions. But boy, he answered
- 26:42Speaker 1: the bell. And here's a guy you talk about steady Eddie.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Darren Simmons says all the time the number one thing
- 26:50Speaker 1: I want him out of my return guys to handle
- 26:51Speaker 1: the ball to the official. And he has been flawless
- 26:55Speaker 1: in his you know, his handling of the football as
- 26:58Speaker 1: a punt returner, catching everything, making good decisions, making a
- 27:02Speaker 1: good decision when to let one hit the ground, and
- 27:05Speaker 1: you know or not, all those kind of things have
- 27:09Speaker 1: been a big deal. Uh, he did a nice job
- 27:11Speaker 1: at bluff On on the one, the one that ended
- 27:14Speaker 1: up in the end zone. I mean, he had a
- 27:15Speaker 1: lot of people believe and he was going to catch
- 27:17Speaker 1: that and return that thing. He knows what he's doing.
- 27:19Speaker 1: I mean, he's a he's a clever guy, smart guy.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Um understands, you know, all the little nuances and man.
- 27:27Speaker 1: And there's another one. I mean there's another guy that
- 27:30Speaker 1: as in history. As you look at at the at
- 27:33Speaker 1: the scoring summary of the of the championship game, there
- 27:37Speaker 1: is with a huge two point conversion and that was huge, massive,
- 27:43Speaker 1: And there's Trent Taylor. So we got b J. Hill,
- 27:46Speaker 1: we got Trent Taylor. Yeah, automatic that was going to happen.
- 27:51Speaker 1: You knew those two guys were gonna make huge plays
- 27:53Speaker 1: and to determine part of the outcome of the game.
- 27:56Speaker 1: And then there's Avin McPherson flying in with his pairs
- 28:00Speaker 1: on the flight. Dad's a dead Ringer is the slightly
- 28:03Speaker 1: older version. But I can't get over the fact that
- 28:07Speaker 1: the dude looks like he's fifteen years old. He was
- 28:09Speaker 1: in high school four years ago and now he's twelve
- 28:13Speaker 1: or twelve in the postseason, hitting him from fifty plus,
- 28:16Speaker 1: hitting him to win games. His level of composure and
- 28:21Speaker 1: the clutch gene is remarkable. It is. And you talk
- 28:26Speaker 1: about Joe Burrow with the ner in confidence this guy, yeah,
- 28:30Speaker 1: I mean he believes he can do anything and he
- 28:33Speaker 1: probably can't in terms of kicking the football. It is
- 28:36Speaker 1: just it's phenomenal. And sat right behind his dad talked
- 28:40Speaker 1: to him on the flight quite a bit. He's got
- 28:42Speaker 1: a son that just committed to Auburn and he just
- 28:45Speaker 1: broke his brother's record. He was the holder when Evan
- 28:49Speaker 1: hit the sixty yarder in high school and he just
- 28:51Speaker 1: hit one from sixty one. And Evan had made it
- 28:56Speaker 1: from sixty eight in high school but not in a game,
- 29:00Speaker 1: and seventy five at Florida but not any game. It's crazy.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know what the mcphersons are
- 29:07Speaker 1: feeding their sons, but man, they've got bionic legs. There's
- 29:10Speaker 1: no no two ways about that. So yeah, it's and
- 29:15Speaker 1: he just he's another one, Joe Burrow, Evan McPherson. When
- 29:22Speaker 1: normally people's heart rates accelerate and it's a big moment,
- 29:25Speaker 1: and you know, you just you start thinking about too
- 29:27Speaker 1: many things. These guys just slow down their breathing rate,
- 29:32Speaker 1: slow down their heart rate, and just step up and
- 29:35Speaker 1: make plays. It's incredible. For more on the win and
- 29:39Speaker 1: an early look ahead to the Bengals Ram Super Bowl matchup,

- 30:05Speaker 1: Now time for this week's fun Facts segment, and my
- 30:07Speaker 1: guest is a guy who joined the team just in
- 30:10Speaker 1: time to head to the super Bowl for the first
- 30:13Speaker 1: time in his eight year NFL career. Time for some
- 30:17Speaker 1: fun facts with Bengals newcomer Zach Kerr, who joined the
- 30:20Speaker 1: team just before the playoff win over Tennessee. Zach, your
- 30:25Speaker 1: teammates are jokingly calling you two checks Kerr, as in
- 30:29Speaker 1: two paychecks, because you are in the Cardinals payroll the
- 30:32Speaker 1: week before for their playoff game. Earlier this year, you're
- 30:36Speaker 1: with another team that's still alive in the playoffs, San Francisco.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Can you describe the whirlwind that this season has been
- 30:43Speaker 1: for you? To be completely honest with you. I really
- 30:46Speaker 1: can't describe it. It's been crazy, you know for me
- 30:49Speaker 1: and my family. You know. So it's the first time
- 30:52Speaker 1: in my career where I've actually been you know, bounced
- 30:55Speaker 1: around like this. You know, the first six years of
- 30:58Speaker 1: my career, I was a stagnant uh you know, two teams,
- 31:02Speaker 1: you know, that's it. And then these last few years
- 31:05Speaker 1: I just kind of been bouncing around. But this year
- 31:06Speaker 1: was really special because you know, it was it's my
- 31:09Speaker 1: eighth year and you know, you know, you know what
- 31:11Speaker 1: they say about when you know, when you start to
- 31:13Speaker 1: get up there in those years as an NFL player
- 31:16Speaker 1: and you kind of see it a little bit. But
- 31:18Speaker 1: then you know, it was just so crazy to play
- 31:20Speaker 1: for the forty nine ers who are playing for a
- 31:23Speaker 1: chance to you know, finish, finish strong, and then being
- 31:26Speaker 1: with the Cardinals who had a chance to finish strong,
- 31:28Speaker 1: and now you know, with the Bengals to you know,
- 31:30Speaker 1: we're still playing as well. So it was just crazy
- 31:33Speaker 1: just to see how that transition happened. And um, you know,
- 31:36Speaker 1: it could have been any three teams and it's thirty
- 31:39Speaker 1: two of them. It could have been any three teams
- 31:40Speaker 1: in the NFL. But it just happened to be these three,
- 31:43Speaker 1: and um, you know, I feel like my last stop
- 31:45Speaker 1: has been the best one so far, so I'm excited
- 31:47Speaker 1: about it. Man, So you played in a playoff win
- 31:50Speaker 1: over the Titans. Did you even know most of your
- 31:53Speaker 1: teammates at that point? From a few practices, I had
- 31:56Speaker 1: no idea who I was out there playing with. Man,
- 31:58Speaker 1: I knew I knew a few guy just being in
- 32:00Speaker 1: the building for you know, two three days. Some guys
- 32:04Speaker 1: I knew from other places and just being in the
- 32:07Speaker 1: NFL and being around them. But for the most part,
- 32:09Speaker 1: I mean, you know, it was just like those guys
- 32:12Speaker 1: that know who I was either you know what I'm saying.
- 32:14Speaker 1: So there was a lot of communication, and then I
- 32:16Speaker 1: couldn't have walked into a group of better guys. To
- 32:18Speaker 1: be honest with you, I felt like I'd been here
- 32:21Speaker 1: the whole season away last game went, and these practices
- 32:24Speaker 1: have been going. So it's really cool to see what
- 32:27Speaker 1: they what they built here in Cincinnati, and I'm just
- 32:28Speaker 1: happy to get a part of them. We're visiting with
- 32:31Speaker 1: Zach Kerr. From reading a little bit about your background
- 32:34Speaker 1: in your life story, your life could be a movie.
- 32:37Speaker 1: There's been a heartache. There's been a hardship, but ultimately
- 32:41Speaker 1: there's been triumph with eight years in the NFL and counting.
- 32:44Speaker 1: When you share your story with kids, where do you
- 32:47Speaker 1: begin and what's your message? Where I begin is telling
- 32:51Speaker 1: them that I actually, you know, they see this NFL
- 32:54Speaker 1: player here right now, but I didn't atually start playing football,
- 32:56Speaker 1: so I was at junior high school. So I kind
- 32:58Speaker 1: of give him that part of it first, to tell
- 33:00Speaker 1: them that, to show them that you don't gotta you
- 33:03Speaker 1: don't gotta do with your whole life like everybody. Um.
- 33:05Speaker 1: And I also tell them that to give them the
- 33:08Speaker 1: idea that sometimes it just happens, you know, like I
- 33:11Speaker 1: can't I try to, you know, make up this crazy well.
- 33:14Speaker 1: You know, I worked super hard, obviously I did, but
- 33:17Speaker 1: it just happened, you know. I just happened to be
- 33:18Speaker 1: good at football my first couple of times playing it.
- 33:21Speaker 1: I happened to be the size I happen to be,
- 33:23Speaker 1: you know, athletic. It just you just win the you know,
- 33:26Speaker 1: you win the lottery, g and and and that's and
- 33:29Speaker 1: that's pretty much what it is. And then what I
- 33:31Speaker 1: try to explain to him is that you can do
- 33:33Speaker 1: whatever you want to do. It doesn't have to be
- 33:36Speaker 1: an NFL football player, doesn't have to be you know,
- 33:38Speaker 1: a professional athlete for any other, um, you know, any
- 33:41Speaker 1: other sports. But I just tried to explain to him
- 33:43Speaker 1: that whatever you really want to do, put your mind
- 33:45Speaker 1: to it, you can do. And I think that's what
- 33:46Speaker 1: my story shows. It just happened that I played football.
- 33:49Speaker 1: But I put my mind to it that I wanted
- 33:51Speaker 1: to be an NFL football player, and it happened. So
- 33:53Speaker 1: I just try to tell them that I really try
- 33:55Speaker 1: to leave football out of it, because that's some anomally
- 33:57Speaker 1: for some guys. You know, part of the hardship you
- 34:00Speaker 1: had to overcome with a period of homelessness as a kid.
- 34:03Speaker 1: What was the low point for you? I don't know. Um,
- 34:06Speaker 1: I don't know if I had any low points. Man.
- 34:08Speaker 1: My mom did a really good job of keeping us
- 34:10Speaker 1: together as a family. She she did a really good
- 34:12Speaker 1: job of not really um allowing us to know what
- 34:17Speaker 1: the situation was. You know, to me, I was in
- 34:19Speaker 1: the I was I was around my families and my
- 34:21Speaker 1: sisters and my mom. So that was a great thing.
- 34:23Speaker 1: I always had food, I always had clothes, you know
- 34:25Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So I don't think there was so
- 34:28Speaker 1: much of a low point. The low point is now
- 34:30Speaker 1: that we're all older, we don't get to be around
- 34:32Speaker 1: each other so much, you know what I'm saying. That's
- 34:33Speaker 1: the low point for me that you know, I gotta
- 34:35Speaker 1: you know, they always all the way across the country
- 34:37Speaker 1: or something like that, and you know, we're adults. We
- 34:39Speaker 1: got our own lives now, so it's a little different
- 34:42Speaker 1: because I'm so used to being a close knit group
- 34:44Speaker 1: and being in the same room and same living room
- 34:47Speaker 1: with the same people and uh and now it's just,
- 34:50Speaker 1: you know, we're all going out separates and doing good
- 34:52Speaker 1: things with our lives. So that's the low point is
- 34:54Speaker 1: that I don't get to see as much as I
- 34:55Speaker 1: used to chatting with Zach Kerr. So as you know
- 34:58Speaker 1: that you didn't play football until the eleventh grade, I
- 35:02Speaker 1: read that you're in the tenth grade, you're in the
- 35:04Speaker 1: school band. You're not on the football team until a
- 35:08Speaker 1: college coach shows up and gives you advice to change
- 35:12Speaker 1: your life. Right, yep. Ralph Frigent was was the guy
- 35:16Speaker 1: who I like to give credit to. It was a
- 35:19Speaker 1: couple of other people in my high school that my
- 35:21Speaker 1: high school head coach. He had been telling me to
- 35:23Speaker 1: play fool, but like, look, bro, you big, you athletic,
- 35:25Speaker 1: you need to come get it a shot. But it
- 35:27Speaker 1: was until Ralph walked in and he told me. He
- 35:30Speaker 1: asked me, he just he just explained it to me
- 35:32Speaker 1: a little. This It made sense to me the way
- 35:34Speaker 1: he said it. He asked me if I wanted to
- 35:36Speaker 1: go to that first thing. He says, said you want
- 35:37Speaker 1: to go to college. I say, yeah, I'd like to
- 35:39Speaker 1: go to college. Said you want to go for free? Yeah,
- 35:41Speaker 1: I'd like to go to college for free. That sounds
- 35:43Speaker 1: like a big idea, you know, that sounds funny. And
- 35:46Speaker 1: he told me, he said, well, you can go to
- 35:47Speaker 1: college for free if you play football. He said, I'm
- 35:50Speaker 1: telling you it could happen. You can change your life.
- 35:53Speaker 1: You can change your family's life by just changing your
- 35:55Speaker 1: decision making. And when he told me that, I kind
- 35:57Speaker 1: of looked at him like, hey, nobody ever really broke
- 35:59Speaker 1: it down something like that. It was just play football,
- 36:02Speaker 1: you big, play football, you big, you know, And it
- 36:05Speaker 1: got to a point where I was like, you know
- 36:06Speaker 1: what this is, this is what I need to do.
- 36:08Speaker 1: I got my grant. I was ineligible because I was.
- 36:09Speaker 1: I didn't care about anything. I was just going to school,
- 36:12Speaker 1: being a high school student. I got eligible and the
- 36:15Speaker 1: next shot I played football, and he told me. It
- 36:17Speaker 1: was two schools. They told me, they said, you get
- 36:20Speaker 1: eligible to play football, you don't have a scholarship from
- 36:22Speaker 1: us your first date being eligible, and it was a
- 36:25Speaker 1: University of Maryland and Penn State. And those two schools
- 36:28Speaker 1: stay true to me throughout the hometown process and all
- 36:30Speaker 1: to me. I went to Maryland coming out of high school.
- 36:32Speaker 1: So it was just crazy how everything I took place
- 36:34Speaker 1: in my life. It's I guess it can be a movie,
- 36:37Speaker 1: but to me, it's just normal. It was supposed to
- 36:39Speaker 1: happen away. That's how I look at it. Well, if
- 36:41Speaker 1: it becomes a movie, I'm going because I appreciate that.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Come to the movie. I'm contacting. You gonna get a
- 36:47Speaker 1: percentage of Now I'll finance the movie or your kidding,
- 36:50Speaker 1: let's steal it. But the movie aspect isn't finished yet.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Because you went to Maryland. You had some success, but
- 36:57Speaker 1: two years in they make a coaching change and the
- 37:00Speaker 1: new coach says, you know, maybe you'd be better off
- 37:02Speaker 1: going elsewhere. So now you've got to start over again.
- 37:05Speaker 1: How difficult was that? That was probably that when you
- 37:09Speaker 1: asked about the low point, that was a low point
- 37:11Speaker 1: for me. I remember leaving college, I mean leaving to
- 37:13Speaker 1: go to college. I told my mom to give my
- 37:14Speaker 1: room to my little sister. Said I'm never coming back home.
- 37:17Speaker 1: I'll never live with you again, like I'm a man now,
- 37:20Speaker 1: And two years out of me saying that, I was
- 37:21Speaker 1: right back in the house, you know what I'm saying,
- 37:23Speaker 1: and you know, sleeping on the floor, all types of stuff.
- 37:26Speaker 1: It was crazy now that I look back on it,
- 37:28Speaker 1: But I mean it was tough for me because you know,
- 37:31Speaker 1: you get to a point in your life where you
- 37:33Speaker 1: think you figured it out right and life humbles you
- 37:37Speaker 1: and now you got to fight your way about it.
- 37:38Speaker 1: That it yet, so all it really showed me was
- 37:41Speaker 1: that I could do it and I wouldn't give up
- 37:42Speaker 1: on myself. You know. That's that's that's what that showed me.
- 37:45Speaker 1: But that was a low point for me, and it
- 37:47Speaker 1: was tough because I didn't know if I was gonna
- 37:49Speaker 1: get back into school. I didn't know, you know, I
- 37:51Speaker 1: didn't even have anybody that was showing interest at that
- 37:54Speaker 1: at that time, so I just went back to my
- 37:56Speaker 1: high school, started helping out with practice with the d
- 37:59Speaker 1: line and running sprints with them after practice and stuff
- 38:02Speaker 1: to stay in shape. And one of my one of
- 38:05Speaker 1: my high school and college teammates, who was already at
- 38:08Speaker 1: Delaware gave gave one of the coaches who was at
- 38:12Speaker 1: Maryland a call and told him, Hey, looks that's trying
- 38:14Speaker 1: to get back into school. So the coach called him,
- 38:16Speaker 1: was like, Hey, what do you want to do. I'm like,
- 38:19Speaker 1: if y'all want me, I'm mad. I don't got no
- 38:21Speaker 1: other you know, I don't got any other, no other offer,
- 38:24Speaker 1: so um everything. I had to go to online school
- 38:27Speaker 1: and you know, pay for that myself and all types
- 38:31Speaker 1: of things, and uh, you know, we ended up working
- 38:33Speaker 1: out for the best two years at Delaware and you know,
- 38:36Speaker 1: eight years later, we're still we're still doing the thing.
- 38:38Speaker 1: It just shows me that I won't ever give up
- 38:40Speaker 1: on myself. So you signed with the Colts. You played
- 38:43Speaker 1: a significant role right off the bat as a rookie.
- 38:46Speaker 1: What did it mean to you the first time you're
- 38:48Speaker 1: standing on the out on the sideline in the NFL uniform,
- 38:51Speaker 1: after all you overcame. I cried like a baby man.
- 38:55Speaker 1: To be completely honest with you, I cried like a
- 38:57Speaker 1: baby because I knew what I had to overcome and
- 39:01Speaker 1: I knew what my family had though, because that's all
- 39:02Speaker 1: I was thinking about, was you know, my family was
- 39:04Speaker 1: up in the stairs. Everybody was dan. I was like, dang,
- 39:07Speaker 1: we had to do so much for me, not for us,
- 39:10Speaker 1: for me to get to this point. I still think
- 39:12Speaker 1: about that every once in a while. Man, before a game,
- 39:14Speaker 1: I think about that, and I still tear up because
- 39:17Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's a dream. I tell my mom
- 39:20Speaker 1: all the time. I think about my dad. I think
- 39:22Speaker 1: about my mom, and I'm like, Dank, they sacrificed so
- 39:24Speaker 1: much for me to get here, and I'm out here
- 39:25Speaker 1: playing the game, just a game, and it brings everybody
- 39:28Speaker 1: so much joy. So it was I still get him.
- 39:30Speaker 1: I'm getting emotion now, man, I don't ask me questions,
- 39:35Speaker 1: all right, you'll like this then, because we're gonna finish
- 39:38Speaker 1: this up with a few wild card questions and these
- 39:40Speaker 1: ones are not emotional, Okay, Which You're all time favorite
- 39:44Speaker 1: athlete in any sport and why Mike Tyson, Mike Tyson,
- 39:51Speaker 1: Mike Tyson, any sport, every sport. It don't matter Mike Tyson.
- 39:54Speaker 1: And the reason why I say that is because he
- 39:56Speaker 1: went through so much. You know, he showed his whole career,
- 40:01Speaker 1: he showed resilience. And it wasn't just boxing, it's outside
- 40:04Speaker 1: of it. It's boxing's life in general, just all the
- 40:08Speaker 1: stuff he had to endure, his mental health, all that stuff.
- 40:10Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, It's not easy. It's not
- 40:12Speaker 1: easy being a you know, almost being a billionaire and
- 40:15Speaker 1: losing it all and then still get you know, find
- 40:17Speaker 1: a way to climb out of that. That's not easy.
- 40:19Speaker 1: You know, it's not easy to have your entire life
- 40:21Speaker 1: put on display. And that's why I enjoy Mike Tyson
- 40:24Speaker 1: because all that happened to him. You're getting the ring
- 40:27Speaker 1: with him, you're trying to take your head off, and
- 40:29Speaker 1: he'll trying to do the same thing in life. And
- 40:31Speaker 1: that's why I love him. He's gonna be that, He's
- 40:33Speaker 1: gonna be the same person all the time, and you
- 40:35Speaker 1: know what you're gonna get from him mine and and
- 40:36Speaker 1: I could I can go to world with a guy
- 40:38Speaker 1: like that all day. Next wild card question. You are
- 40:41Speaker 1: a large man. What is the biggest inconvenience in regular
- 40:46Speaker 1: everyday life for somebody or size clothes, finding clothes that
- 40:52Speaker 1: are fit, you know. To be completely honest, I'm a
- 40:55Speaker 1: stylished guy. I like I like looking like. I'm not
- 40:57Speaker 1: a big guy that like looking slop. I like to
- 40:59Speaker 1: look nice because if you beg you can't be slopping,
- 41:02Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So I like to look
- 41:04Speaker 1: I like to look nice and sake care of myself
- 41:06Speaker 1: and um. The hardest thing for me, man, is just
- 41:09Speaker 1: just going into a stone and knowing that they don't
- 41:11Speaker 1: have anything there that face. That's probably what it is.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Do you use Zach Kerr have a hidden talent? I
- 41:18Speaker 1: can't impersonate people really well. I say a hidden talent.
- 41:21Speaker 1: I gotta, I gotta. I got an impersonation gene. I
- 41:23Speaker 1: guess I say that one. You're gonna get me one.
- 41:25Speaker 1: I can't see. Look, I don't he's gonna ask you
- 41:27Speaker 1: to do that. It's on the spot, man, I don't
- 41:29Speaker 1: know who I would impersonate, you know, for you to
- 41:31Speaker 1: be like okay, I know who that is, you have
- 41:33Speaker 1: to be somebody that you know. I was gonna say,
- 41:35Speaker 1: do you have a Mike Tyson? I mean, if that
- 41:37Speaker 1: your guy, can you do typon. Let me do you,
- 41:39Speaker 1: let me do you a good Mike Tyson. Let me
- 41:41Speaker 1: see which what's a good quote from him? See his
- 41:43Speaker 1: quotes are crazy. Man, I don't know if I can
- 41:44Speaker 1: say that was on the radio. I got some Mike
- 41:48Speaker 1: Tyson for you, but I don't know if I can
- 41:49Speaker 1: get you on the radio right now. Dad, and I
- 41:51Speaker 1: ain't a lot to you. We've got that beep button,
- 41:54Speaker 1: but I'll wait until we're talking face to face and
- 41:56Speaker 1: there's no microphone nearby, and then I'll have you do
- 41:59Speaker 1: your mic. That final thing for Zach Kerb this is
- 42:02Speaker 1: kind of deep. If you could meet anybody in history, athlete, actor, statesmen,
- 42:10Speaker 1: famous politician, whoever that might be, who would that person be? Honestly, man,
- 42:14Speaker 1: it'll probably be my father. My dad passed away when
- 42:18Speaker 1: I was young, so I never got a chance to
- 42:19Speaker 1: meet him with no him. But everybody tells me and
- 42:22Speaker 1: I'm with the same zat person. You know what I'm saying.
- 42:24Speaker 1: So probably my Pops, Man Restipes and Weston Kerr. Zach.
- 42:29Speaker 1: This has been great. Welcome to Cincinnati. Thank you so
- 42:32Speaker 1: much for your time and best of luck. Thank you, Dan.
