- 0:02Speaker 1: And welcome in it is Jags am JP Sadrick in
- 0:19Speaker 1: for Kay Stevens.
- 0:20Speaker 2: We've got a busy.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Show ahead on a relatively non busy week.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Is that a word?
- 0:26Speaker 1: A lot to get to though, Let's get right to
- 0:27Speaker 1: it and start into the big things today, starting with
- 0:30Speaker 1: thirty days to the NFL Draft. Brian Sexson, I know
- 0:34Speaker 1: you're fired up to go to Green Bay.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Can't wait to get to Green Bay. Actually, I am
- 0:37Speaker 3: excited to see what they do up there. They've done
- 0:39Speaker 3: such a great job with a history of the Packers
- 0:42Speaker 3: and the league. I expect it to be as good
- 0:44Speaker 3: as any city that toasted the draft since they moved
- 0:46Speaker 3: it out of New York in twenty fifteen.
- 0:48Speaker 4: But what I'm really feeling about.
- 0:50Speaker 3: This right now is, and John, you go back to
- 0:52Speaker 3: the early days of this franchise, when the Jaguars got started,
- 0:56Speaker 3: they were able to really be big players in free
- 0:59Speaker 3: agency was one of them the hallmarks of the way
- 1:01Speaker 3: that they built the team because the league gave them
- 1:03Speaker 3: a completely clean cap, and so the Jaguars, is they
- 1:06Speaker 3: were filling their roster with draft picks, were also equally
- 1:09Speaker 3: sprinkling in free agents, and through their history that's something
- 1:12Speaker 3: they've done. But you get the feeling that maybe the
- 1:15Speaker 3: next thirty days are going to prove that that's changing
- 1:18Speaker 3: in Jacksonville and that the draft is really going to
- 1:21Speaker 3: be the heart and soul of this football program, like
- 1:24Speaker 3: they've talked about, because the way that they approached free
- 1:27Speaker 3: agency last month was about filling specific gaps and lower
- 1:31Speaker 3: name players and lower contracts as opposed to the big,
- 1:35Speaker 3: rich contracts that they had done for so many years.
- 1:37Speaker 3: And I think we're seeing a seed change in the
- 1:39Speaker 3: way that this franchise is going to approach building the roster.
- 1:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know that we'll know that for sure,
- 1:45Speaker 5: but I know they're going to emphasize the draft. I
- 1:47Speaker 5: mean it's I think most teams want to veer from
- 1:50Speaker 5: free agency. What they do over the next thirty days
- 1:55Speaker 5: until the draft will determine maybe in a year or two,
- 1:59Speaker 5: what they don't have to do in free agency.
- 2:00Speaker 6: They need to hit.
- 2:01Speaker 5: As somebody wrote to me this week, it's nice to
- 2:04Speaker 5: say draft and develop, but you got a draft well
- 2:07Speaker 5: to develop. So I think the next thirty days definitely
- 2:10Speaker 5: set the tone for this franchise moving forward.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Now our next big thing. Today, you see the theme
- 2:16Speaker 2: on the stream.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Thirty well thirty million, almost thirty million dollars in cap
- 2:20Speaker 1: space remaining for the Jaguars, even after the free agency
- 2:24Speaker 1: spend that they did was about ten players coming in
- 2:27Speaker 1: a free agency, none of those their own unrestricted free agency,
- 2:31Speaker 1: the only team in the league to not sign their
- 2:33Speaker 1: own unrestricted free agents, John, and so they had a
- 2:36Speaker 1: little money to work with. Still, they got to save
- 2:38Speaker 1: some for that draft class as well.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Well.
- 2:40Speaker 5: I think they've got the money, but I don't think
- 2:44Speaker 5: they want to necessarily spend it, certainly not till after
- 2:47Speaker 5: the draft. They're gonna draft, and as James Gladstone said,
- 2:51Speaker 5: they hope to have spots available for young guys to play.
- 2:56Speaker 5: I think there's a few needs on this rosterbably a
- 3:00Speaker 5: few more than the top three or four positions can fill.
- 3:04Speaker 5: So would I be shocked if there was a pass
- 3:07Speaker 5: rusher after free agency, some sort of low level veteran.
- 3:11Speaker 5: But I hope that thirty million, except for the rookies,
- 3:14Speaker 5: stays relatively the same, Right.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it will. John, You're right on on
- 3:17Speaker 4: that one.
- 3:17Speaker 3: When you look at that though, JP, the thing that
- 3:19Speaker 3: that really is is an indicator of the health of
- 3:22Speaker 3: the franchise. You've got your quarterback, your top pass rusher,
- 3:25Speaker 3: and your top cornerback all under contract for next year.
- 3:28Speaker 3: A new group has come in and they've reworked through
- 3:30Speaker 3: the roster the way that they want it and brought
- 3:32Speaker 3: in and they spent now on those nine players. They
- 3:34Speaker 3: spent some money and they're still in a position of strength.
- 3:38Speaker 3: When you look at the health of a football team,
- 3:40Speaker 3: the salary cap is one of the most important ways,
- 3:42Speaker 3: like the heartbeat of the team. They've got the ability
- 3:45Speaker 3: to do what they want with the roster right now
- 3:47Speaker 3: with key players under contract. I just think it portends
- 3:51Speaker 3: well as they head into this draft to be in
- 3:53Speaker 3: such a strong position from the salary cap and they've
- 3:55Speaker 3: got some.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Dead cap money against them still with all the players
- 3:58Speaker 1: they didn't bring back in the years.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Fifty eight million, which is a huge number, but four
- 4:02Speaker 4: in the league.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Yeah, And it goes to show though that they are
- 4:04Speaker 3: taking a big bite out of that to be able
- 4:07Speaker 3: to go forward the way they want. And they still
- 4:09Speaker 3: have plenty of money if they want to maneuver and
- 4:12Speaker 3: add a player here or there.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Our final big thing today thirty visits Well, you can
- 4:17Speaker 1: bring thirty prospects in during this period coming up. It
- 4:20Speaker 1: is Pro day season right now. The visits will begin
- 4:24Speaker 1: very soon, Brian, and you'll get a better idea that
- 4:27Speaker 1: reports will probably come out.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I'm sure of who's coming who's not.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And this is when you get to spend a whole
- 4:32Speaker 1: lot more time than you do with the combine.
- 4:35Speaker 2: With these guys.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and looking at the thirty days and the thirty visits,
- 4:38Speaker 3: they're really interconnected, John, because you're talking about getting guys
- 4:41Speaker 3: in who you are very interested in, and you want
- 4:45Speaker 3: to spend time with them, and you want them in
- 4:47Speaker 3: your building so that your equipment team can get a
- 4:50Speaker 3: little feel for who they are, and not just the
- 4:51Speaker 3: medical team, but anybody else that might be involved and
- 4:55Speaker 3: just offer an opinion. They're seeking to collect as much
- 4:57Speaker 3: information as they can. And all the way back to
- 5:00Speaker 3: nineteen ninety seven when Tony Gazales, the great tight end
- 5:03Speaker 3: it's a Hall of Famer, came in, but he also
- 5:05Speaker 3: came in with a guy named Seth Payne. And everybody
- 5:08Speaker 3: knew Tony Gazales, but they said, who's this guy, a
- 5:10Speaker 3: defensive tackle from Cornell?
- 5:12Speaker 4: Why they're bringing him there.
- 5:14Speaker 3: This was in the early iteration of these player visits
- 5:18Speaker 3: and Seth Payne was a fourth round pick.
- 5:19Speaker 4: It was a key player for them for five seasons.
- 5:22Speaker 3: So you know you're going to find those guys through
- 5:24Speaker 3: this process that you really like, and these visits are
- 5:27Speaker 3: more about getting them in than the top prospects.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll actually be curious to see how this goes
- 5:33Speaker 5: for the Jags. The Rams don't do much thirty visit
- 5:37Speaker 5: and I'm not sure how much you know this is
- 5:40Speaker 5: the north star of the Rams, right, Yeah, So I'll
- 5:43Speaker 5: be curious over the next month to see how much
- 5:44Speaker 5: the Jaguars take advantage of this. Some teams are going
- 5:47Speaker 5: away from this a little bit, but when teams do this,
- 5:51Speaker 5: it certainly is a chance, as Brian said, to get
- 5:54Speaker 5: to know the prospect.
- 5:56Speaker 2: We'll see and teams can do it different way. So
- 5:59Speaker 2: we've seen Jag Wars regimes earlier.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Bring in, you know, fifteen guys on one day and
- 6:04Speaker 1: rotate them through all day long, or split them up,
- 6:06Speaker 1: and we'll see what the Jags have in mind this
- 6:08Speaker 1: go around.
- 6:09Speaker 2: We've got plenty ahead. We'll come back in a moment.
- 6:11Speaker 1: And take a look at the AFC South and talk
- 6:13Speaker 1: about other teams behind their back.
- 6:15Speaker 2: In our Division.
- 6:16Speaker 1: What we love to do on jags Am. Welcome back
- 6:22Speaker 1: to jags Am.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Move the freight. Moved the freight, not everybody.
- 6:27Speaker 1: At one time Magellan Transport put in the coolest office
- 6:30Speaker 1: space in Jacksonville. Apply online at Magellanlogistics dot com. One
- 6:35Speaker 1: of these days, you got some juice this morning, I
- 6:37Speaker 1: get you guys to do that with me, all right,
- 6:39Speaker 1: Today's not that day.
- 6:40Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not sure as that too early.
- 6:43Speaker 3: John, Today, I don't know we were supposed to jump in.
- 6:46Speaker 4: I mean a little clue, move the freight.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Thank you, you got it. John, will get to you
- 6:51Speaker 1: another time. Let's take a look at the AFC South.
- 6:55Speaker 1: You know, we talked about the Jags. Clearly we were
- 6:58Speaker 1: a Jaguars heavy centric know, but this team competes in
- 7:01Speaker 1: the AFC South and it is a division that is
- 7:05Speaker 1: you know, there's a lot of change could be on
- 7:06Speaker 1: the horizon for some of these teams.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Let's start off with the division champs.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Last year, the Houston Texans, who limped towards the end
- 7:14Speaker 1: of the season got.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Into the playoffs. Of course, is the division champs.
- 7:17Speaker 1: They've got Stroud, They've got changes up front on that
- 7:21Speaker 1: line this offseason. Brian and you know, and then they've
- 7:24Speaker 1: got a pass rush on defense, they've got pieces they
- 7:26Speaker 1: write parts.
- 7:27Speaker 2: How consistent can they be well?
- 7:29Speaker 3: And they've got the quarterback too, right. I mean, everybody
- 7:31Speaker 3: agrees that CJ. Stroud is a talented guy, but he
- 7:35Speaker 3: was sacked way too often under pressure, way too often
- 7:37Speaker 3: last year, and so they traded Laramy Tunseell, which raised
- 7:40Speaker 3: eyebows in the league. He went to Washington, Laramy Tunsall asked,
- 7:44Speaker 3: Josh Allen, you know, it is one of those guys
- 7:46Speaker 3: that you really had to have two chin straps for.
- 7:49Speaker 3: You had to be ready for this guy. And they
- 7:51Speaker 3: traded him away and they brought in Cam Robinson. They
- 7:54Speaker 3: were making a lot of different moves up front on
- 7:56Speaker 3: their offensive line, and they feel like they have to
- 7:59Speaker 3: and where they're acting at the bottom of the first round.
- 8:01Speaker 3: There are plenty of good prospects on the interior of
- 8:04Speaker 3: the offensive line.
- 8:05Speaker 4: That's the story for them.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Yeah, they've got to they've got to replace steph On
- 8:09Speaker 3: Diggs and there's some other things they want to do.
- 8:12Speaker 6: But CJ.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Stroud is the engine. We've talked about Trevor Lawrence here
- 8:16Speaker 3: being the engine for this team. And they felt like
- 8:18Speaker 3: their offensive line was a big problem. When you Trey
- 8:21Speaker 3: Laramie Tunsult, you're pretty much admitting that that's it.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Yeah, it's it's a big year for them, because really,
- 8:27Speaker 5: I think one of the disappointing things for the Jags
- 8:29Speaker 5: last year was the Texans were not a dominant team.
- 8:33Speaker 5: This was not a dominant division, and they really didn't
- 8:36Speaker 5: take a step forward. They made the playoffs, probably mostly
- 8:40Speaker 5: because the rest of the division sort of just went
- 8:42Speaker 5: away and C. J. Stroud was not great. He did
- 8:46Speaker 5: not take the second year jump that people expected. They
- 8:49Speaker 5: clearly believe it's the offensive line. It's a big year
- 8:53Speaker 5: for that franchise and for Stroud because you know, if
- 8:57Speaker 5: he has another year like last year, then all of
- 8:59Speaker 5: a sudden, it's middling.
- 9:00Speaker 6: I think he's really good, but there's.
- 9:02Speaker 5: Some proving to do, and this franchise thinks this division
- 9:07Speaker 5: is gettable and that the Texans are not beyond being reeled.
- 9:11Speaker 2: In next year.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Let's move along to your old stomping grounds, Indianapolis, John
- 9:15Speaker 1: where the Colts have quarterback questions. Surprise, surprise, there were
- 9:19Speaker 1: eight to nine last year. Anthony Richardson injured throughout the
- 9:22Speaker 1: season so many different ways and times. Well, now there's
- 9:26Speaker 1: going to be a competition, they say out of Indy
- 9:28Speaker 1: with Daniel Jones coming in as well at quarterback.
- 9:31Speaker 2: It starts and ends there for the Colts, John.
- 9:33Speaker 6: Well, it's exactly what.
- 9:36Speaker 5: A young quarterback who's been through with Daniel Jones has
- 9:40Speaker 5: been through needs. I believe there's a trend in the NFL,
- 9:44Speaker 5: and there's going to be a trend of quarterbacks failing
- 9:47Speaker 5: with one franchise or failing at, you know, not being
- 9:50Speaker 5: what that franchise thought.
- 9:52Speaker 4: There's a lot of information to support you. A lot
- 9:54Speaker 4: of those guys.
- 9:54Speaker 5: Yeah, and Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones is certainly a guy
- 9:58Speaker 5: who can do that.
- 10:00Speaker 6: You know.
- 10:01Speaker 5: I don't want to pile on Anthony Richardson, but it
- 10:05Speaker 5: was such a sealable thing that he might struggle from
- 10:08Speaker 5: the very start when they drafted him, it was all
- 10:10Speaker 5: un potential.
- 10:12Speaker 6: There had not been a whole lot of collegiate success.
- 10:16Speaker 5: They feel like a franchise in fux, but they've also
- 10:18Speaker 5: been a franchised sense of luck retired really that if
- 10:22Speaker 5: they get that position right, you always feel like they're
- 10:25Speaker 5: two or three wins better. Have they got that position right,
- 10:27Speaker 5: They're probably the division champions and Super Bowl contenders lately.
- 10:30Speaker 5: So it's a big year for the direction of that franchise.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Listen, they've had some success when they've had Matt Ryan, right,
- 10:36Speaker 3: it was limited. Same thing with Joe Flackel. Well, those
- 10:39Speaker 3: were older guys way up in years. Here, you've got
- 10:42Speaker 3: a young, talented quarterback and things didn't work for him
- 10:44Speaker 3: in New York. But I still remember the game here
- 10:46Speaker 3: in twenty twenty three where he kept the Jaguars off balance,
- 10:49Speaker 3: running for more than one hundred yards and connecting just enough,
- 10:53Speaker 3: you know, through the passing game to keep everybody off balance.
- 10:56Speaker 3: So I think Daniel Jones can be that Sam Darnold,
- 10:59Speaker 3: Baker Mayfield and listen, that roster. They need a couple
- 11:03Speaker 3: of things up front. They've gotten old on both sides
- 11:05Speaker 3: of the line, but they've got enough talent. When you've
- 11:09Speaker 3: got a running back like Jonathan Taylor. If Daniel Jones
- 11:11Speaker 3: steps in and is somewhere between Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold,
- 11:16Speaker 3: you do have a contender at the top of the division.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Yeah, there may be no other franchise that defines how
- 11:24Speaker 5: a franchise can turn on a couple of games and
- 11:28Speaker 5: a couple of good fortunes. They circumstances led them to
- 11:33Speaker 5: get Peyton Manning, Andrew and Andrew Luck back to back
- 11:36Speaker 5: in the right years to get franchise guys. And I
- 11:39Speaker 5: remember being in Indian people around there saying, Hey, don't
- 11:43Speaker 5: lose sight of how rare this is. Meaning when I
- 11:46Speaker 5: was covering Peyton and you know, the franchise since Luck retired.
- 11:52Speaker 5: It's almost like the football guys are saying, you only
- 11:55Speaker 5: get that.
- 11:56Speaker 6: You know, you can't have that always.
- 11:59Speaker 5: But more than the football guides joke, it just shows
- 12:02Speaker 5: the importance of the position quickly.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Yeah, the Packers had farv and drafted Rogers and kept
- 12:06Speaker 3: him for a couple of years and then got Love.
- 12:07Speaker 3: So they're the only other franchise I can think of
- 12:09Speaker 3: that's in that run. And obviously the Colts fell on
- 12:12Speaker 3: hard times when Luck decided I don't want to play anymore,
- 12:15Speaker 3: which you can't really do much about it.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Well, they could have drafted better on the offensive line. Yeah,
- 12:19Speaker 1: they kept him upright, that might have kept him in
- 12:21Speaker 1: the game a little bit longer. Also, I mean, for
- 12:23Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson to compete, you've got to be healthy and
- 12:26Speaker 1: on the field to do that. He wasn't able to
- 12:28Speaker 1: do that really a lot of times at Florida as well,
- 12:30Speaker 1: was really neighboring his career college or pro Let's move
- 12:34Speaker 1: down to Nashville Music City and Tennessee Titans have the
- 12:37Speaker 1: number one pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft
- 12:40Speaker 1: because they were three and fourteen a year ago. Jaguars
- 12:44Speaker 1: swept them quarterback questions. Of course, you can go around
- 12:47Speaker 1: any of these teams. Really at three and fourteen this record,
- 12:51Speaker 1: the top five in the or so are going to
- 12:54Speaker 1: have quarterback questions Will Levis or cam Ward. That seems
- 12:59Speaker 1: to be the general consensus of mock drafts for the
- 13:03Speaker 1: Tennessee Titans, including after his pro day yesterday when they
- 13:07Speaker 1: sent the entire front office down to Miami Bryan.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Well and all the reports were is that he was impressive,
- 13:13Speaker 3: just like he was in his year at Miami, and
- 13:16Speaker 3: he is a guy who's got a lot of tools.
- 13:18Speaker 6: Now, if you took the.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Last couple of years of quarterbacks, he wouldn't have stacked
- 13:22Speaker 3: at the very top of that. But this happens to
- 13:24Speaker 3: be that year, and they happen to be a team
- 13:26Speaker 3: in need. They hire an offensive minded head coach and
- 13:29Speaker 3: they've got to give him a quarterback.
- 13:31Speaker 4: This just seems to be a no brainer.
- 13:34Speaker 5: Yeah, it would be shocking, except that you see enough
- 13:40Speaker 5: analysts and enough people mocking enough people around it who
- 13:46Speaker 5: are acting like it's not a slam dunk.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Yet for the quarterback. So well, is that because of
- 13:49Speaker 3: the quarterback? Or you think they try to trade out.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Of that spot.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Well, I mean if they believe in cam Ward, which
- 13:57Speaker 5: I don't know if they do or not, but they
- 13:58Speaker 5: believe in cam Ord, they won't trade out of it.
- 13:59Speaker 6: But it's not a done deal.
- 14:03Speaker 5: And it does feel like, maybe more so than in
- 14:08Speaker 5: a lot of recent seasons, if cam Ward gets taken
- 14:12Speaker 5: number one, it will be very much a pushing up
- 14:15Speaker 5: the draft board because a quarterback.
- 14:17Speaker 6: That doesn't mean it can't work.
- 14:18Speaker 5: But everything you hear is that neither of these quarterbacks,
- 14:22Speaker 5: Ward or Sanders would be in the top ten if
- 14:24Speaker 5: it was regardless of position. I can't see the Titans
- 14:28Speaker 5: not doing this because, much like you've seen with this franchise,
- 14:31Speaker 5: sometimes you get in position as a franchise with a
- 14:35Speaker 5: coach and a GM and the talent base, you can't
- 14:38Speaker 5: keep waiting on the quarterback because that's the you know
- 14:42Speaker 5: that's the go button, right, So I'd be surprised they
- 14:45Speaker 5: don't take a quarterback.
- 14:45Speaker 3: You know, it also sets up for them to take
- 14:48Speaker 3: a dual carter, right. I mean, Harold Landry has gone,
- 14:51Speaker 3: he's now in New England, and you've got a guy
- 14:53Speaker 3: in a dual carter that looks like an elite pass
- 14:56Speaker 3: rusher who probably doesn't go any lower than two.
- 14:58Speaker 6: So you could see the Titans.
- 15:00Speaker 3: They're stuck there and they don't love the quarterback saying listen,
- 15:02Speaker 3: we need an elite pass rusher who does it, We'll
- 15:04Speaker 3: take him.
- 15:05Speaker 1: You know what the Texans did a few years ago,
- 15:07Speaker 1: trade it up and got both. Yeah, they got both
- 15:09Speaker 1: their guys in the top three picks.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Yeah, worked pretty good.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Also a possibility, you never know. They've got to rebuilt
- 15:13Speaker 1: offensive line. They've done some work in free agency in Nashville,
- 15:17Speaker 1: as you said, some changes coming on defense. There's our
- 15:19Speaker 1: look around the AFC South. We're back in a moment.
- 15:22Speaker 1: We're back to draft talk. Who do you want wearing teal?
- 15:26Speaker 1: Next fall? We'll get our answers at least when we
- 15:29Speaker 1: come back on jags Am.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Welcome back to jags Am.

- 15:52Speaker 1: six three three two thousand. You see the opponents there
- 15:54Speaker 1: at home schedule usually in early May. Now they keep
- 15:58Speaker 1: pushing that back a little bit, but the whole opponents
- 16:01Speaker 1: right there on your screen. Should be a fantastic season
- 16:05Speaker 1: here at the Bank and welcome back JP Shadwick, Brian
- 16:07Speaker 1: Sexton and John Osier Jags am Impakai Stevens.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Today NFL Draft.
- 16:12Speaker 1: As we mentioned earlier about thirty days away in Green
- 16:15Speaker 1: Bay from the twenty twenty five NFL Draft, Jags have
- 16:18Speaker 1: the number five pick. So the question today is who
- 16:21Speaker 1: do you want wearing teal next ball. I'll answer the
- 16:26Speaker 1: question first, since before the camera's on me already.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Why not?
- 16:29Speaker 1: I like star power, I like competitiveness. I like guys
- 16:33Speaker 1: with their hands on the football on both sides of
- 16:35Speaker 1: the ball. Give me Travis Hunter of Colorado, the cornerback,
- 16:39Speaker 1: wide receiver, which side would he play primarily on?
- 16:43Speaker 2: Here?
- 16:43Speaker 1: It's a great question we can talk about that. Jags
- 16:46Speaker 1: do need some cornerback help. Jaggs could use another star receiver.
- 16:50Speaker 1: He could do both. I like the fact that he's
- 16:53Speaker 1: the only guy that we've seen in a generation in
- 16:56Speaker 1: college football that's even attempted something like this.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Attens Cordy Lockball.
- 17:00Speaker 1: He is at the top of his game. Obviously the
- 17:03Speaker 1: Heisman Trophy winner wants to do it. Still, we'll see
- 17:07Speaker 1: whatever team gets him allows him to do it.
- 17:09Speaker 4: But which side would you put him on?
- 17:11Speaker 1: I would put him at corner and give him some
- 17:13Speaker 1: packages at wide receiver.
- 17:14Speaker 2: That's what I would do.
- 17:15Speaker 1: He's not going to be happy with that, but you
- 17:18Speaker 1: know what, Hey, you're a rookie, Go play, prove yourself
- 17:20Speaker 1: and then maybe there's more of the problem with it
- 17:22Speaker 1: is that if he gets hurt, you lose two positions. Yeah,
- 17:25Speaker 1: and that's where it becomes really trick.
- 17:27Speaker 4: Listen, it seems like it could go either way.
- 17:29Speaker 3: That people are talking about him as playing either one
- 17:31Speaker 3: at a very high level and dabbling in the other.
- 17:35Speaker 6: Yeah, I.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Think if he's there, I think there's a very high
- 17:41Speaker 5: percentage chance that the Jaguars take him.
- 17:44Speaker 6: I don't think that he will be there.
- 17:46Speaker 3: So Okay, because of what you were talking about it
- 17:48Speaker 3: was per absolute star power. People watched Colorado when they
- 17:52Speaker 3: weren't very good the last two years because of this kid.
- 17:55Speaker 3: And every time I turned a game on it involved Colorado,
- 17:58Speaker 3: I was looking for twelve. And the thing was, no
- 18:01Speaker 3: matter what side of the ball was out there, you
- 18:02Speaker 3: want a chance to watch him.
- 18:03Speaker 4: You could watch this guy for sixty minutes.
- 18:05Speaker 2: You don't have to look far.
- 18:06Speaker 6: The Great Players Draft.
- 18:08Speaker 5: According to Allanos, it's Abduel Carter from Penn State and
- 18:12Speaker 5: it's it's Hunter. So if either of those guys are
- 18:16Speaker 5: available at five, I don't think they get.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Too six fair enough Johnny, Oh, what do you think?
- 18:22Speaker 2: Who do you want to see? Intel?
- 18:23Speaker 5: Well, who I'd most like to see is who I
- 18:26Speaker 5: just mentioned, Abdul Carter, But I think there's such a
- 18:28Speaker 5: limited chance of him being there that I didn't go
- 18:30Speaker 5: that direction. So I went Mason Graham, and he's sorted
- 18:33Speaker 5: the chalk pick, the defensive tackle from Michigan. I understand
- 18:39Speaker 5: that you love shiny objects, JP, so you love the playmaker,
- 18:46Speaker 5: and there's nothing wrong with the Travis Hunter. But I
- 18:48Speaker 5: think for this franchise right now, I feel like Mason Graham,
- 18:53Speaker 5: from what you see is a very very very low
- 18:57Speaker 5: risk player who can give you something that you need,
- 19:01Speaker 5: which is stockiness, stoutness, all that stuff on the interior.
- 19:06Speaker 5: I'll go with the defensive tackle who can be disruptive,
- 19:10Speaker 5: which they haven't had in.
- 19:11Speaker 6: A long time.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Well, what this team really needs.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Is a guy who pushed the pocket from the inside.
- 19:15Speaker 3: They hope that Mason Smith develops into that or Jordan Jefferson.
- 19:21Speaker 3: That's why they were picked last year where they were.
- 19:23Speaker 3: But if you don't have.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Somebody pushing the pocket from the inside, JP.
- 19:26Speaker 3: You know this, I mean, it's just so much harder
- 19:28Speaker 3: for Josh and for Trayvon to be able to get
- 19:31Speaker 3: to the quarterback. Quarterback can step up into the pocket.
- 19:34Speaker 3: So I mean, this is a very logical, sensible pick.
- 19:38Speaker 3: If he's there, and buy all accounts, he should be
- 19:40Speaker 3: there ten youre guy, I.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Argue with this pick.
- 19:44Speaker 1: If it was made, I mean, this would be a
- 19:46Speaker 1: significant piece for this defense.
- 19:48Speaker 3: But this was sort of a wishless sort of fun exercise,
- 19:51Speaker 3: and so I'm going I try to channel the Los
- 19:56Speaker 3: Angeles Rams, right, I try.
- 19:58Speaker 2: To what would they everybody in the building they do.
- 20:00Speaker 3: That, and they would they'd look for a touchdown maker.
- 20:03Speaker 3: So I went with Tyler Warren, the tight end from
- 20:07Speaker 3: Penn State, who most people think is going to be
- 20:09Speaker 3: picked in the top nine picks, probably doesn't get much
- 20:11Speaker 3: lower than New Orleans. The reason why is he reminds
- 20:15Speaker 3: me physically of Rob Gronkowski and stylistically like Travis Kelce,
- 20:20Speaker 3: and if you can find a player that can give
- 20:22Speaker 3: you all of that, he was so much fun to watch.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Talking about fun, right, I mean not two sides of
- 20:27Speaker 3: the ball like Travis Hunter, but a guy that they
- 20:29Speaker 3: lined up all across the formation at running back, at quarterback.
- 20:32Speaker 3: I just think for an offensive vine like Liam Cohen
- 20:35Speaker 3: and the staff that they have down there, if you
- 20:37Speaker 3: take a mismatch the size and quality of Tyler Warren
- 20:42Speaker 3: and you put him on the field and let them maneuver,
- 20:45Speaker 3: the quarterback will have a much much better time of
- 20:49Speaker 3: executing what they want to an offense. It's a reach pick,
- 20:53Speaker 3: but I take it because he looks like he's going
- 20:55Speaker 3: to be a great player.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:56Speaker 1: You know, I did a couple of Penn State games
- 20:58Speaker 1: last year, and I didn't do the Southern colgame where
- 21:01Speaker 1: he literally lined up everywhere. He snapped the ball at
- 21:03Speaker 1: one point and went out for a route how they
- 21:05Speaker 1: lined up, but he's doing the direct snap. But then
- 21:07Speaker 1: he's lined up in the slot and he's outside, he's
- 21:09Speaker 1: full back. He does He did everything for Penn State,
- 21:13Speaker 1: and then in the key moment against Ohio State, down
- 21:15Speaker 1: at the goal line, they don't give him the football
- 21:18Speaker 1: and they were turned away on fourth down. They corrected
- 21:21Speaker 1: that the next week, two direct snaps to him, two
- 21:23Speaker 1: touchdowns for Penn State at the goal line. He has
- 21:26Speaker 1: that ability to just kind of be John a gamer,
- 21:28Speaker 1: a guy that you can throw out there. You know
- 21:30Speaker 1: he's gonna be able to handle whatever you throw at
- 21:32Speaker 1: him well.
- 21:33Speaker 5: And the pick would make sense because they do use
- 21:35Speaker 5: tight ends in that way, they could find a spot
- 21:38Speaker 5: to use both Brenton.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Strange and Tyler Warren.
- 21:42Speaker 5: It would make a lot of sense for an offense
- 21:44Speaker 5: that frankly, I believe you need four guys who can
- 21:48Speaker 5: beat and make defenses nervous in the passing game. Right now,
- 21:53Speaker 5: they believe they have Brenton Strange, Brian Thomas Junior, and
- 21:59Speaker 5: John may Brown. This would give you that one more,
- 22:02Speaker 5: maybe not at the receiver position, but it would give
- 22:04Speaker 5: you at the tight end. And you know NFL has
- 22:08Speaker 5: shown us in the last ten years. When you get
- 22:10Speaker 5: a double tight end situation, if it's the right combination,
- 22:13Speaker 5: it can work in the same capacity as having three wives.
- 22:16Speaker 4: I don't think they take him at five, but who knows.
- 22:18Speaker 3: If somebody doesn't want to come up and grab someone
- 22:20Speaker 3: and you can't go back to seven or eight, who knows.
- 22:23Speaker 2: What if Hunter and Graham are gone.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Well, listen, you know who I like, but I don't
- 22:28Speaker 3: know what they think. I just if you watch Penn
- 22:30Speaker 3: State and if you're looking for highlights to back this up,
- 22:33Speaker 3: go watch, go, go, go to YouTube and find Tyler
- 22:35Speaker 3: Warren highlights. You'll enjoy watching him play.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Watched the Southern col game last year.
- 22:39Speaker 1: That was the one out at the Coliseum that just
- 22:42Speaker 1: opened everybody's eyes. I mean he touched the ball so
- 22:44Speaker 1: many times. We've got plenty ahead, Actually not plenty. This
- 22:47Speaker 1: is we're come back in a moment, We're gonna wrap
- 22:48Speaker 1: this thing up.
- 22:49Speaker 2: We're calling it at that I might have not enough ahead.
- 22:52Speaker 2: John is done after this commercial break.
- 22:54Speaker 1: On JAG's Am, Jaguars Football is presented by Fresh from Florida.
- 23:03Speaker 1: It's always in season and Welcome back to Jags Am.
- 23:06Speaker 1: JP Shadwick and for Kay Stevens.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Thank you for sex. That's Brian Sexton.
- 23:11Speaker 1: By the way, John Oser salty vets here on the
- 23:15Speaker 1: set today, Final moments here. The NFL annual meeting coming
- 23:20Speaker 1: up next week in Palm.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Beach, John, You'll be down there for sure.
- 23:24Speaker 1: And one of the big topics each owners meeting is
- 23:28Speaker 1: proposals for rule changes, and there are some high level
- 23:32Speaker 1: ones that will kind of touch on today. There's some
- 23:34Speaker 1: kind of down in the weeds football business things we'll.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Leave off today.
- 23:38Speaker 1: But the number one that's I think gonna be Oh,
- 23:41Speaker 1: there's a few controversies. Playoff seating was mentioned by one
- 23:45Speaker 1: of the teams as they wanted to change it where
- 23:47Speaker 1: a wild card team can be seated higher than a
- 23:51Speaker 1: division champion.
- 23:52Speaker 2: And I can't even believe I'm reading this.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I mean, what's the point of divisions if you're gonna
- 23:57Speaker 1: let the wild card team be seated higher.
- 23:58Speaker 2: I don't like it.
- 23:59Speaker 5: It seems like this gets brought up every five to
- 24:02Speaker 5: seven years, and the instinct from fans as always, yeah,
- 24:07Speaker 5: you know, if a team goes thirteen and four, they
- 24:11Speaker 5: usually have a home game over at ten and seventeen.
- 24:13Speaker 6: But I you guys have been around this long time.
- 24:18Speaker 5: As I have NFL owners and league people, they value
- 24:23Speaker 5: those division titles and they consider them very important.
- 24:27Speaker 6: There's rivalries among owners.
- 24:29Speaker 5: There's owners who have been in a long time who
- 24:31Speaker 5: believe the division matters, and I don't think the league
- 24:35Speaker 5: wants to. If you take that away, then why not
- 24:39Speaker 5: just have conferences like back in the strike year where
- 24:42Speaker 5: they just went one through eight and like reseated everybody.
- 24:46Speaker 5: So I understand the feeling of inequity when you see
- 24:51Speaker 5: it and it's that big of a gap. But part
- 24:53Speaker 5: of the issue too is when you get like a
- 24:55Speaker 5: nine and eight team and a ten and seventeen and
- 24:58Speaker 5: there's not that much of a gap, owner's argument becomes, well,
- 25:01Speaker 5: why should this team be punished for playing in what
- 25:05Speaker 5: perhaps is a tougher division?
- 25:07Speaker 6: And they won it, and you know, so there's both sides.
- 25:10Speaker 6: I'd be stunned if it's changed.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Well, first of all, I was surprised that it was
- 25:13Speaker 3: the Lions that brought it up because they had the
- 25:15Speaker 3: number one overall seed.
- 25:16Speaker 6: Last year.
- 25:17Speaker 5: You were in that situation, lost in Minnesota, so it
- 25:21Speaker 5: probably got minds thinking, and well mine start thinking dangerous stuff.
- 25:25Speaker 3: This came to light to my memory the first time
- 25:27Speaker 3: in twenty ten, when you had a Seahawks team that
- 25:30Speaker 3: made the playoffs with a losing record and they hosted
- 25:34Speaker 3: the Saints. If you recall that game, that was the
- 25:36Speaker 3: Marshawn Lynch Beast play down game to bes Quick. Absolutely,
- 25:39Speaker 3: and so ever since then they've looked at it. I
- 25:42Speaker 3: am interested in the removal of the automatic first down
- 25:47Speaker 3: on a five yard defensive holding right, because there are
- 25:50Speaker 3: so many times where you've got a guy on third
- 25:52Speaker 3: down and ten and he just holds just slightly and
- 25:55Speaker 3: it becomes a first down.
- 25:57Speaker 6: Yeah. I can't believe that rule would get changed.
- 25:59Speaker 3: I don't hold no, I'm with you, but it seems
- 26:02Speaker 3: like there's some momentum.
- 26:04Speaker 2: What's the alternative? I don't know. Five yeard penalty third
- 26:07Speaker 2: and five.
- 26:08Speaker 6: That smells that's what they want. That if they change it,
- 26:11Speaker 6: it'll be for one year. In a year, they'll go, oh, no,
- 26:14Speaker 6: that's not you know.
- 26:16Speaker 5: I think it sounds some of these rules, and it's
- 26:19Speaker 5: why the competition is why the competition committee is usually
- 26:23Speaker 5: full of experienced people who've been through it, because some
- 26:25Speaker 5: of these rules sound great on the surface, sort of
- 26:28Speaker 5: like the past interference rule, A couple of years back,
- 26:30Speaker 5: and then once you see it in play, you realize
- 26:34Speaker 5: why the NFL it is slow to change because they
- 26:38Speaker 5: don't want fiascos and to me, the holding that turns
- 26:43Speaker 5: into a lot of just hold it intentional grab. Yeah,
- 26:47Speaker 5: I don't think that's what the league wants to see.
- 26:49Speaker 6: In what is an offensive centric mindset.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Overtime rules could be on the table this week.
- 26:55Speaker 1: You know the playoff rule now is that both teams
- 26:57Speaker 1: get a possession in overtime that goes fifteen minutes. Well,
- 27:01Speaker 1: the proposal is to make that the same rule in
- 27:04Speaker 1: the regular season.
- 27:05Speaker 6: Yes, that goes back, Brian, sorry interrupted you.
- 27:09Speaker 5: The competition committee will always try to air towards shorter
- 27:14Speaker 5: because of injury risks, and because of there's a belief
- 27:18Speaker 5: that fatigued players laid in games and the more plays
- 27:22Speaker 5: you play are more.
- 27:23Speaker 6: Setible an injury.
- 27:24Speaker 5: That's why they cut out back when he said the
- 27:26Speaker 5: fifteen minute over time. They're going to try to air
- 27:30Speaker 5: towards shorter because that's what players want. But at the
- 27:35Speaker 5: same time that might be one that changes. The tush
- 27:39Speaker 5: push rules also up this year.
- 27:41Speaker 3: You've got to feel at some point, since nobody else
- 27:43Speaker 3: has been able to do it like the Eagles have
- 27:45Speaker 3: that they'll finally outlaw this, and I think maybe it's
- 27:47Speaker 3: got a little traction to at least have a more
- 27:49Speaker 3: hearty discussion, because Jason Kelsey talked at length during the
- 27:53Speaker 3: Super Bowl week about how painful that process is for
- 27:56Speaker 3: a center, what dangerous it is for the interior offensive
- 27:59Speaker 3: and defensive line.
- 28:00Speaker 1: I mean, saw what happened to Chris Jones with the
- 28:01Speaker 1: Chiefs when he lined up sideways and got in the neck,
- 28:03Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden in the Super Bowl
- 28:05Speaker 1: he's trying to figure out his neck the rest of
- 28:06Speaker 1: the game.
- 28:06Speaker 5: If they can convince people that it's dangerous, then it
- 28:09Speaker 5: might get changed. I kind of think it's not going
- 28:12Speaker 5: to get changed for the simple reason that the Eagles
- 28:14Speaker 5: are the only team it's been consistously successful with it,
- 28:18Speaker 5: because then if you change that rule, the Eagles are going, well,
- 28:22Speaker 5: you know, just because we're good at something, you're changing it.
- 28:24Speaker 6: So that's sort of the conflict. I wish they'd change it.
- 28:28Speaker 5: I don't love the play, but I do wonder if
- 28:31Speaker 5: in a meeting, if Jeffrey Lourie is not going to
- 28:33Speaker 5: stand up and say, well, what happens if you come
- 28:36Speaker 5: up with a play that I don't like, So there
- 28:38Speaker 5: may be an element of that.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and some of the wording of these could be
- 28:41Speaker 1: a little bit of a catch to one of it
- 28:43Speaker 1: says part of it says, you know immediately after the snap, well,
- 28:47Speaker 1: how long is immediately then you're getting into how long
- 28:50Speaker 1: can before you can push somebody. We'll see what they
- 28:53Speaker 1: come up with next week. Hey, this has been a show. Yeah,
- 28:57Speaker 1: thanks guys.
- 28:58Speaker 6: You've definitely sure you jumping in.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Good morning, John, glad you made it.
- 29:01Speaker 1: How about that's John Oser, That's Brian Sexton.
- 29:05Speaker 2: I'm J. P. Shadwick.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Thanks to our entire crew and thanks to you for
- 29:08Speaker 1: watching jags Am
