- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, they return to Glory podcast.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Man, it's been a few weeks. Hunter's Arbadiki Austin Rose,
- 0:26Speaker 2: the code of free tag. A lot has happened, a
- 0:28Speaker 2: lot going on. We were just talking before. I'm freaking scrambling.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I it's gonna be a fire off as quick as
- 0:36Speaker 2: we can here. I got food making in the air
- 0:38Speaker 2: fiar in prayer that go off in a couple of seconds.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Dak just got his wisdom teeth poled last week.
- 0:46Speaker 3: I am yellous of whatever you're making in the air.
- 0:48Speaker 4: Frar and you, Dak, what's your what's the status?
- 0:53Speaker 5: Okay, that's not bad. Wasn't you that I could open
- 0:56Speaker 5: my mouth for like a month?
- 0:58Speaker 6: My bottom left tooth is killed me. But other than that,
- 1:00Speaker 6: it's not too bad.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Okay, I'm glad that's a pen. I thought what you
- 1:04Speaker 2: were holding was a syringe. No like shoot yourself up
- 1:09Speaker 2: with as Life's been normal right for you?
- 1:16Speaker 5: Just busy, just busy, you know. I was disappointed that
- 1:19Speaker 5: we kept pushing off the pot. I really wanted to
- 1:21Speaker 5: pot after that first week of the tournament because my
- 1:24Speaker 5: bracket was and then it was just a house of
- 1:26Speaker 5: cards and came tumbling down.
- 1:28Speaker 4: But man, I started out warm.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah it's been I mean, yeah, it's been three weeks
- 1:35Speaker 2: I think since we've last pot, or more than that,
- 1:37Speaker 2: we haven't thought it since the March madness started. So, Austin,
- 1:41Speaker 2: your bracket was hot. Mine was hot, and I had
- 1:45Speaker 2: a chance to win the pool because I had Houston,
- 1:49Speaker 2: a couple of pools i'd been I had. I was
- 1:51Speaker 2: doing so well Houston. Yeah, I love you, I love you.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Kelvin Samson couldn't quite get her done, but I was.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I was doing really well in the one bracket that
- 2:01Speaker 2: I put time into, which usually is never the case.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever had a good bracket like
- 2:05Speaker 2: this that I've thought about. I've been telling people that, like,
- 2:09Speaker 2: usually I'm horrible and the random ones that I auto
- 2:12Speaker 2: generate do really well, but not this year. This year
- 2:14Speaker 2: was the exception that I kind of picked chocky and
- 2:18Speaker 2: that's the way it went for the tournament, and it
- 2:21Speaker 2: paid off, but not literally because Houston didn't win, so
- 2:24Speaker 2: I just didn't even get in the top money.
- 2:27Speaker 5: That's unfortunate. Yeah, Like I was ranked one thousands on
- 2:30Speaker 5: ESPN after the first two rounds and I didn't go
- 2:33Speaker 5: super unchalky there's a lot of two seeds, but my
- 2:36Speaker 5: two seeds fell apart.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:40Speaker 6: I started out great in the beginning first rounds and
- 2:42Speaker 6: then just completely felt part like I I think i'd
- 2:45Speaker 6: like twenty three percent right, and then something like forty.
- 2:49Speaker 3: It was terrible after that.
- 2:50Speaker 5: Freaking calm Perry. I'm a firm believer. Always pick against
- 2:53Speaker 5: the maternity, the bad coach, good recruiter, bad coach. Give
- 2:57Speaker 5: him the first round, I'll lose the second round. Coursey
- 3:00Speaker 5: knocks out.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Of Saint John.
- 3:03Speaker 2: If we're I know we're not talking about the most
- 3:06Speaker 2: important topic on a Nebraska sports podcast right now, but
- 3:09Speaker 2: we'll get the NCAA tournament talk out of the way.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I thought overall, like, I am very satisfied and happy
- 3:15Speaker 2: with the tournament how it went. I know a lot
- 3:17Speaker 2: of people are They like the Cinderellas, they like madness,
- 3:20Speaker 2: they like buzzer beaters. We got a couple of those.
- 3:23Speaker 2: These last final four games were great. Here's the thing,
- 3:26Speaker 2: if you're a committee, you did your job right. If
- 3:29Speaker 2: all the one seed's made it, you picked the four
- 3:31Speaker 2: best teams. They'll leave the top of every bracket, and
- 3:33Speaker 2: almost all the two seeds as well. Besides one three seed,
- 3:37Speaker 2: like you did your job as you're a committee, You're
- 3:38Speaker 2: feeling pretty dang good. And it led to us in
- 3:40Speaker 2: good basketball games, especially in the Final four. All three
- 3:43Speaker 2: of those games were I mean, lived up to expectations
- 3:47Speaker 2: with how good those teams are.
- 3:50Speaker 5: And yeah, I mean I have no complaints.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I'm not one that need to see Cinderella's I actually
- 3:54Speaker 2: like good teams playing good teams in the you know,
- 3:56Speaker 2: Sweet sixteen, Elite eight and beyond, versus having a ten
- 3:59Speaker 2: seed in their walls kind of cool, but then have
- 4:01Speaker 2: an attendense to go get blown out like later on.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Yeah, like if you're gonna have your Cinderella. You know,
- 4:08Speaker 5: cal Perry was a good Cinderella. You know, it's like, okay,
- 4:11Speaker 5: this is a face we know in a new setting.
- 4:16Speaker 4: It was good.
- 4:16Speaker 5: I I did not watch as much of it as
- 4:20Speaker 5: I have in the past, partly because I was saving
- 4:24Speaker 5: my basketball for you know, the Crown Tournament.
- 4:26Speaker 4: But it was good. I was disappointed. I really liked watching.
- 4:30Speaker 5: I'm not a Duke fan, but you know what, I
- 4:35Speaker 5: was disappointed that they didn't make the championship.
- 4:37Speaker 4: But the way they lost is that's gonna be.
- 4:42Speaker 5: An eternal, like everyone's always gonna remember that that when
- 4:45Speaker 5: Duke lost to Houston.
- 4:47Speaker 6: See, okay, I'll get the tournament here, but that dude
- 4:52Speaker 6: Houston game, I'm so mad.
- 4:53Speaker 3: I took a pain pill. They'll slip in five seconds
- 4:56Speaker 3: if I missed it. I woke up, I look up.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Those paint med cations are like, they're pretty nice. They're
- 5:03Speaker 5: pretty good. Sleep on those things.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Sometimes sometimes they knocked me out. Something they didn't. That
- 5:07Speaker 3: time it knocked me out. I was hoping to keep
- 5:08Speaker 3: me up.
- 5:09Speaker 6: But I woke up as that last Duke shop was
- 5:12Speaker 6: going in, and my eyes were so messed up. I
- 5:13Speaker 6: thought I went in and I found back asleep. So
- 5:16Speaker 6: I thought it was ot that night, but walk up
- 5:18Speaker 6: next morning it wasn't. But I thought the first two
- 5:22Speaker 6: rounds of the tournament were not good at all, Like
- 5:24Speaker 6: there was not many close games in those first two rounds.
- 5:28Speaker 3: But then I'm with you.
- 5:30Speaker 6: I like the blue Bloods are like not Sinderel's basically
- 5:37Speaker 6: making it pass those two rounds because then we got
- 5:39Speaker 6: great games from there.
- 5:41Speaker 3: I mean, this, this final foreign champion is probably the
- 5:43Speaker 3: best there's been.
- 5:46Speaker 5: Like I said, I loved it.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I probably was more into the tournament this year than
- 5:52Speaker 2: any other year, just from wanting to watch good basketball
- 5:57Speaker 2: and a lot of these teams and I of defense,
- 6:00Speaker 2: and no matter if it's football, basketball, whatever sport, a
- 6:03Speaker 2: lot of these teams have some very tough, defensive type
- 6:06Speaker 2: minded coaches. Now, the team that won it was the
- 6:10Speaker 2: team probably with the best offense in the most explosive
- 6:13Speaker 2: offense in Florida, but they also obviously work their asses
- 6:18Speaker 2: off on defense as well. Yeah, like I said, overall,
- 6:22Speaker 2: like I give it an a tournament, I really do.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Just the beginning rounds that, Yeah, you like to see
- 6:27Speaker 2: some some people do it is what it is.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Like.
- 6:30Speaker 2: It's cool those mid major teams and them can pull
- 6:33Speaker 2: off a twelve five, which I guess.
- 6:36Speaker 5: That's what makes it exciting. No one, if you if
- 6:39Speaker 5: every top seed won that you wouldn't care. But you
- 6:42Speaker 5: don't want them to win every game. You want them
- 6:44Speaker 5: to win that first game and then it's like okay,
- 6:46Speaker 5: I'm good.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Yeah, they core.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Performers by Big ten teams.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Though yes I was looking at this before.
- 6:57Speaker 6: You forget how many times Florida could have lost his
- 6:59Speaker 6: tournament four fourth street game, fourth straight game. Yeah, I
- 7:02Speaker 6: can't remember their first who they played their first natch,
- 7:04Speaker 6: they probably killed them. But anyway, but Yukon they should
- 7:08Speaker 6: have probably lost to for sure, Texas Tech and the
- 7:12Speaker 6: Duke or not Duke.
- 7:14Speaker 5: Not Duke Florida who they Michigan State.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Now Florida be Texas Tech, Texas Tech.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Yeah, but who? What were the four teams that they
- 7:25Speaker 4: were trailing trailing to.
- 7:27Speaker 6: Is Yukon, Texas Tech, Houston and I can't remember the
- 7:31Speaker 6: fourth one. But they should have lost all four of
- 7:32Speaker 6: those games, and they just found a way at the end.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, but I agree like Florida was
- 7:41Speaker 2: all these games kind of were that way.
- 7:42Speaker 1: A lot of them were.
- 7:43Speaker 2: That's what made it kind of cool, Like, you know,
- 7:45Speaker 2: did the best team win?
- 7:46Speaker 3: I guess.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I mean, they're the one that beat everybody else. But
- 7:48Speaker 2: there were so many good like the staff that I
- 7:52Speaker 2: saw that amazed me was the Ken Pom like top
- 7:55Speaker 2: ten rated teams in the history of the Ken Pom
- 7:58Speaker 2: ratings in the last whatever twenty years for the top
- 8:01Speaker 2: ten where the final four teams is here, like just
- 8:04Speaker 2: from an efficiency standpoint on what they do on both sides.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Of the ball, they're good teams, man, good.
- 8:11Speaker 5: Teams like it was. It was.
- 8:12Speaker 2: It was good basketball, and like I like we said
- 8:13Speaker 2: that the final four lived up to it. Guys, we
- 8:17Speaker 2: have failed as a podcast because we just spent ten
- 8:20Speaker 2: minutes talking about random bullshit when Nebraska are the.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Fact of CHAMPSOB.
- 8:31Speaker 5: Like, holy cow.
- 8:34Speaker 2: We could talk about this for probably two hours in itself.
- 8:37Speaker 5: Well, I'm dying to now. My brother listened to our pod.
- 8:41Speaker 5: He was very upset with your takes on Fred Weiberg
- 8:43Speaker 5: and at the end of season.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Yeah, so here's the thing. I I was. The end
- 8:50Speaker 2: of the year, I was, I was, I was deflated,
- 8:52Speaker 2: and so yeah, we want to talk about Fred to start,
- 8:54Speaker 2: let's talk about it. I was very concerned, very concerned,
- 8:58Speaker 2: like red Flag, we are not playing hard for Fred anymore,
- 9:05Speaker 2: Like towards the end of the year. We failed as
- 9:09Speaker 2: a program the last three or four weeks of the
- 9:12Speaker 2: season by not beating teams that we should have beat.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Lost a lot of close games, got blown out in
- 9:17Speaker 2: some games, and I'm just like, crap, Like I don't
- 9:21Speaker 2: know that this team wants to play for Fred anymore.
- 9:24Speaker 5: And I think I did say it.
- 9:27Speaker 2: And I agree with the take, like if we would
- 9:29Speaker 2: have went out against Arizona State, who I didn't even
- 9:32Speaker 2: know how bad they were at the time, thirteen and
- 9:35Speaker 2: eighteen or nineteen, whatever their record was, it was not good.
- 9:38Speaker 2: It would have lost that game and got beat I
- 9:41Speaker 2: would my opinion would not have changed about Fred. That
- 9:45Speaker 2: would have basically proven what I suspected or what I
- 9:50Speaker 2: thought was happening. Here's the thing would happen, though it
- 9:54Speaker 2: went the complete opposite and watching us play in their
- 9:58Speaker 2: crown and haveata with this is the crown, the NCAA tournament.
- 10:03Speaker 2: No are these teams in the crown? Are they necessarily
- 10:08Speaker 2: quote unquote good? Probably not, I guess, but they're not Again,
- 10:14Speaker 2: what what the what your definition of good is? They're
- 10:16Speaker 2: not NCAA tournament teams? You know, Boise State was probably
- 10:19Speaker 2: the closest bubble team. You know that we got. Yeah,
- 10:23Speaker 2: there are a lot of injured players in some of
- 10:24Speaker 2: these teams or opt outs, transfers, whatever you want to
- 10:27Speaker 2: call it. I get all of that. Like, I totally
- 10:29Speaker 2: understand that argument. And maybe people say, why are we
- 10:32Speaker 2: getting excited over a that's the pessimisic in Austin. You
- 10:35Speaker 2: probably thought I was going to have that view.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Potentially, I don't know what I did not have any
- 10:40Speaker 4: I had no idea.
- 10:41Speaker 2: What my thought was this whole Crown thing. You have
- 10:44Speaker 2: an opportunity to go play, and once you agree to
- 10:47Speaker 2: go play as a competitor of any program, of a team,
- 10:50Speaker 2: if you're playing for Fred, if your Fred, go out
- 10:52Speaker 2: and win the damn thing, no matter who you're playing,
- 10:54Speaker 2: if you're playing the Sisters of the Blind and Death,
- 10:56Speaker 2: or if you're playing Duke, like, go out and compete
- 10:59Speaker 2: and try to win every game possible. And we did
- 11:02Speaker 2: that for four straight games. And again, I don't care
- 11:04Speaker 2: what you want to say about the quality of the
- 11:06Speaker 2: other team. I'm gonna say the Crown was a better
- 11:08Speaker 2: field than the NIT, and I think that's a pretty
- 11:10Speaker 2: common take just in general. The NIT looked to get
- 11:14Speaker 2: a lot of the smaller to mid major type teams
- 11:17Speaker 2: where there are a lot of more power conference teams
- 11:19Speaker 2: now where they the best. No, because they're in the
- 11:23Speaker 2: NCAA tournament. But like I, this is what best you
- 11:26Speaker 2: can do, right with the situation that you were given.
- 11:29Speaker 2: You elected to play in it. Okay, that's the first thing,
- 11:32Speaker 2: and I would have been very disappointing if we didn't.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I think Fred made that comment. I'm glad we chose
- 11:36Speaker 2: to play in this tournament, Like yay, once you choose,
- 11:38Speaker 2: now you're in and now let's see what program, what
- 11:41Speaker 2: kind of competitors, what the motivation level is of everyone
- 11:44Speaker 2: in the program. And that proved that it was all there,
- 11:49Speaker 2: and we came out winning the Crown Championship. Like bottom
- 11:53Speaker 2: line that we did the best we could in this tournament.
- 11:55Speaker 2: We're one of very few teams in the country to
- 12:00Speaker 2: play your last game and win it of the of
- 12:02Speaker 2: the season.
- 12:05Speaker 5: Incredible that we're Crown champions, We've won the n it
- 12:07Speaker 5: we still have get to win a tournament game. Absolutely
- 12:10Speaker 5: incredible stat And then who's the real winner here? I mean,
- 12:14Speaker 5: you go to the tournament, you lose, you know, the
- 12:16Speaker 5: second third round, you don't get any cash. They got
- 12:19Speaker 5: three hundred k, you know, almost incentive to not make
- 12:23Speaker 5: the tournament. I'd rather be the bubble win that thirty k.
- 12:29Speaker 2: That's a that's a great conversation, like that is something
- 12:31Speaker 2: that you know, now we need to win our first
- 12:35Speaker 2: tournament game. Don't get me wrong, you need to get that.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I know that's number one.
- 12:38Speaker 5: But as a player, as a player, it's like, well,
- 12:42Speaker 5: would I rather be this the chance to win three
- 12:45Speaker 5: hundred thousand or probably lose, like if you're on the bubble.
- 12:49Speaker 5: It's like, I don't know, it would be kind of
- 12:51Speaker 5: nice to not be in Mike those first four in
- 12:54Speaker 5: or last four.
- 12:55Speaker 2: And I should say, I'll say that until we freaking
- 12:57Speaker 2: get a wins, we need to win one.
- 12:59Speaker 4: That's true. You're wrong, You're wrong.
- 13:01Speaker 5: I have I'm definitely on the make the turning and
- 13:04Speaker 5: win train. But it's just an interesting the interesting dynamic.
- 13:09Speaker 6: It's so at least they came out and fought, because
- 13:13Speaker 6: you see a lot of other teams that like when
- 13:17Speaker 6: they don't like a coach, they don't play for their
- 13:19Speaker 6: coach at all. So at the end of the season
- 13:21Speaker 6: here they came out fought. I mean it was like
- 13:25Speaker 6: it wasn't a massive tournament, but it was. It was
- 13:28Speaker 6: still a good thing they came out. Now they start
- 13:31Speaker 6: out in the Arizona State game like.
- 13:32Speaker 3: They did at the end of the year.
- 13:33Speaker 6: There you thought, well, it's this same team and then
- 13:37Speaker 6: found a way at the end and you might have
- 13:40Speaker 6: found a star.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Kil Jacobson, Well, I pause on that.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I don't want to get into that yet. I think
- 13:44Speaker 2: this format and the talk of the tournament because there's
- 13:47Speaker 2: a big storyline with some of the players here is
- 13:52Speaker 2: you know, the money, the prize money and and what
- 13:56Speaker 2: that means. I guess for these players. I remember who
- 14:00Speaker 2: it was, if it was Bryce or Juan one of
- 14:02Speaker 2: the guys said it. It wasn't like like it's all
- 14:06Speaker 2: or nothing for this money type of pep talk when
- 14:09Speaker 2: they're thinking about it. But it's it's a nice added bonus.
- 14:12Speaker 2: I don't know what the split is or how they're
- 14:14Speaker 2: divvying that up.
- 14:14Speaker 5: I don't know when when they won their the semi
- 14:18Speaker 5: finals game, Juwan was you know, the whole one game.
- 14:24Speaker 2: He should and and so yeah, while yeah, the tournament
- 14:27Speaker 2: is what it's new, it's brand new, right, nobody knows
- 14:32Speaker 2: really what it was and what it is yet no
- 14:35Speaker 2: one there, I.
- 14:36Speaker 5: Mean, very good.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I don't anticipate people probably to go. No one goes
- 14:40Speaker 2: to the n I T games either besides your your fans, right,
- 14:43Speaker 2: Nebraska fans took that place over. Okay, I am going
- 14:48Speaker 2: to go off on a little tangent here. I thought
- 14:51Speaker 2: it was hilarious. I've never seen anything like it. Did
- 14:54Speaker 2: you guys watch the Georgetown game and did you see
- 14:59Speaker 2: what fans you got guys are I was busy. There
- 15:04Speaker 2: was a Nebraska fan that sat right next.
- 15:08Speaker 5: To end Yes on the bench.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Three fourths of the game, and it was just incredible.
- 15:16Speaker 2: And so to the background story, there's it's an NBA
- 15:20Speaker 2: arena or location type of thing, so kind of like
- 15:24Speaker 2: however that it's set up so there's four seats right
- 15:28Speaker 2: besides the scorers table on both sides for fans to
- 15:31Speaker 2: sit at, and then there's like a little break and
- 15:33Speaker 2: then there was the betch well on Nebraska side there
- 15:36Speaker 2: we weren't using those four seats, and then eventually four
- 15:40Speaker 2: guys did come sit down there that were in like
- 15:42Speaker 2: generic business clothes, like neither team. On the other side,
- 15:47Speaker 2: there was one Husker fan and I heard his name
- 15:50Speaker 2: on some other podcasts, but he sat there and the
- 15:53Speaker 2: Georgetown coaches in the meantime kind of were just using
- 15:55Speaker 2: that as an extension of their bench. In addition for
- 15:58Speaker 2: Ed Cooley, their head coach, sitting and there are several
- 16:01Speaker 2: pictures of him sitting right next to Ed Cooley and
- 16:04Speaker 2: like we would hit a three and he would just
- 16:06Speaker 2: be like like clapping, and there were as it was
- 16:10Speaker 2: the best thing ever, Like I if you heard that fan.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I don't know how you're supposed to react, but it
- 16:16Speaker 2: was I thought that was so funny, Like I was
- 16:19Speaker 2: just picturing trying to coach a basketball game and there's
- 16:21Speaker 2: a random fan from the other team just sitting in
- 16:23Speaker 2: the middle of your bench like as you're like coaching.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Credible lasted for so long until finally someone from the
- 16:31Speaker 2: tournament site came up and said, Hey, would you want
- 16:34Speaker 2: to switch to these four other guys to the other
- 16:36Speaker 2: side so you can put it, And he's like, okay, yeah,
- 16:39Speaker 2: so he did.
- 16:43Speaker 5: I wish if I didn't have things going on, I
- 16:46Speaker 5: definitely would have potentially, because there's a Spirit Airline they
- 16:50Speaker 5: do a Thursday Sunday flight out of Omaha, Man that
- 16:53Speaker 5: would have been a tempting flight mm hmm.
- 16:57Speaker 4: But because the tickets were hell at cheap.
- 17:01Speaker 5: I mean, you could have sat right behind the scores
- 17:04Speaker 5: table for freaking.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Ninety ten Nebraska fans, if not more. And I don't
- 17:08Speaker 2: know if those are Nebraska fans that traveled, they probably
- 17:10Speaker 2: were a handful, but we also just have fans kind
- 17:13Speaker 2: of scattered throughout the country too, so like it was
- 17:17Speaker 2: pretty cool. I think it was the season three to
- 17:20Speaker 2: tie it in the championship game is a picture I
- 17:22Speaker 2: kind of saw floating around on social media that the
- 17:25Speaker 2: Husker fans just went up and went nuts.
- 17:28Speaker 5: It was neat like it.
- 17:29Speaker 2: It was so loud on there too, the go bigger
- 17:31Speaker 2: at school, I mean, the fan base. It was like
- 17:33Speaker 2: everything was built up for so long, now outside of volleyball,
- 17:37Speaker 2: but built up for so long, just frustration with like
- 17:40Speaker 2: the basketball and football teams specifically. I'm like, God, we
- 17:43Speaker 2: just can't win anything. We're cursed, and we just were
- 17:47Speaker 2: able to let it all go. And when we when
- 17:51Speaker 2: we kind of had that game one and we're coming
- 17:52Speaker 2: back and so again, not that fans is are anything,
- 17:55Speaker 2: we deserve nothing, We're fans, but it was a neat
- 17:59Speaker 2: moment I think for all of the Husber nations.
- 18:03Speaker 5: And I mean honestly, like the whole tournament, you go back,
- 18:06Speaker 5: it really wasn't. I mean, I'll say at the start,
- 18:09Speaker 5: and then there was a brief moment in the championship
- 18:11Speaker 5: game where you're like, uh, oh it we played well
- 18:15Speaker 5: like I didn't. It wasn't like a strench of frustration
- 18:18Speaker 5: where I was like, oh my gosh, this freaking team.
- 18:23Speaker 4: But it was good. Uh yeah, And.
- 18:26Speaker 5: Then, I mean, we're going to talk about player some
- 18:29Speaker 5: players rolling Wooster done.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Okay, so.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Not that we want to talk about Raleigh. But so
- 18:44Speaker 2: that was a lot of people that I've talked to
- 18:46Speaker 2: their least favorite player because of what you know. And
- 18:50Speaker 2: I do think he had part of the senior leadership peach,
- 18:52Speaker 2: which is why he played a lot.
- 18:55Speaker 5: But was he there?
- 18:56Speaker 2: I don't even know if he was there. I don't think. Yeah,
- 19:01Speaker 2: and neither so he doesn't play so in steps not
- 19:05Speaker 2: right away to start, but first game airsona state in
- 19:08Speaker 2: steps Cale Jacobson.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Who didn't play at all this year at all.
- 19:14Speaker 2: I mean I think the stat was like I saw
- 19:18Speaker 2: someone like it was he scored eight total points the
- 19:20Speaker 2: entire year including mop up time.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Yea, And yeah, like didn't play at all?
- 19:25Speaker 2: Right steps then and game one happens and our best
- 19:30Speaker 2: five to end that Arizona State game did not involve
- 19:34Speaker 2: any of our bigs. We were playing Sam, Kale, Connor, Bryce,
- 19:39Speaker 2: and Juan. That was our best five that played the
- 19:42Speaker 2: last like nine minutes. No no Mia, no Morgan. And
- 19:47Speaker 2: those five are the ones that finished out that first game.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I mean, who who could have even predicted or thought
- 19:53Speaker 2: that right, like that's it's amazing to be honest, but
- 19:57Speaker 2: that was our I could have.
- 20:00Speaker 5: Is that just a product of like we're not playing
- 20:02Speaker 5: big ten games anymore, we don't need the size, or
- 20:04Speaker 5: if it's just like like Fred's kind of been like
- 20:08Speaker 5: the fuck it, like all right, let's see what happens
- 20:11Speaker 5: and then it worked, well a little bit of it.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Go ahead, Deck?
- 20:15Speaker 6: Or is it mar your bigs are just not good?
- 20:17Speaker 6: Like Burke has been awful since I he was terrible
- 20:20Speaker 6: again in this tournament.
- 20:22Speaker 3: May me and you know you're gonna get from him.
- 20:24Speaker 3: He's awful to instantly. I actually liked Morgan a lot,
- 20:27Speaker 3: so I don't I don't.
- 20:28Speaker 6: Say any bad about him, but but yeah, your bigs
- 20:30Speaker 6: aren't very good. I think that's the main part.
- 20:32Speaker 2: I think it's very matchup dependent. Arizona State was not
- 20:35Speaker 2: big inside, they're big, I believe. If I remember the game,
- 20:38Speaker 2: right was a freshman, skinny guy that wasn't that much
- 20:43Speaker 2: of an impact, right, And so I think when we
- 20:46Speaker 2: got to the you know, we went on our little
- 20:47Speaker 2: run in the second half against Arizona State and we
- 20:50Speaker 2: saw who that lineup was.
- 20:52Speaker 5: Fred's like.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Like, yes, we'll play these five and then it kept
- 20:56Speaker 2: working and kept working and kept working to the point
- 20:58Speaker 2: that you're like that was interesting. So then the next
- 21:01Speaker 2: three games, Hal Jacobson entered the starting lineup and plays,
- 21:06Speaker 2: I believe, besides Bryce, the most minutes in Game two
- 21:10Speaker 2: against Georgetown and finishes starting and I mean playing very
- 21:15Speaker 2: very well. And that also was at the demise. Like
- 21:17Speaker 2: Barrikay that last game against UCF, he didn't play and
- 21:21Speaker 2: he might have played the last minute of the first half,
- 21:22Speaker 2: and then he played a little bit in the second half.
- 21:24Speaker 5: He didn't play much.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Morgan came in was the big guy when we needed one.
- 21:29Speaker 2: You're right, big ten big men are very different than
- 21:33Speaker 2: the teams we played, so I do think you still
- 21:35Speaker 2: need especially defensively.
- 21:37Speaker 5: But here's the thing. Hail proved he can.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Guard pretty much any position as well, including big men.
- 21:42Speaker 2: You're guarding it differently, right, You're not banging them, You're
- 21:45Speaker 2: more fronting them, being underneath them, small guys, you know,
- 21:48Speaker 2: kind of the Pat Bev Reggie Jackson on Kevin Durant
- 21:52Speaker 2: type of comparison where you're just underneath them all the time.
- 21:56Speaker 5: And played so well, right, like you want to give
- 21:59Speaker 5: an MVP.
- 22:00Speaker 2: He out to the tournament as far as what you
- 22:01Speaker 2: didn't expect coming in, I mean, pal Jacobs, like, come.
- 22:05Speaker 4: On, obviously, Yeah, that was impressive.
- 22:09Speaker 2: And I mean he definitely deserves the conversation and moving
- 22:15Speaker 2: forward with Kale. I don't know, like he might have
- 22:18Speaker 2: earned himself, you know, a starting spot at a smaller
- 22:22Speaker 2: Division I school somewhere. And I'm not saying he's not
- 22:25Speaker 2: starting here next year because it's probably a chance he
- 22:27Speaker 2: did the last few games here, but with the portal
- 22:29Speaker 2: and everything that we will talk about. Who knows, but CaAl,
- 22:35Speaker 2: I mean deservedly a Nebraska guy walk on that just
- 22:38Speaker 2: earned his earned his spot in a big way, very
- 22:43Speaker 2: big part of this Crown championship.
- 22:47Speaker 4: It was wild.
- 22:48Speaker 5: I It's just one of those things where I just
- 22:53Speaker 5: don't know. I just want to know what what Bread
- 22:57Speaker 5: was like. Okay, now we'll use him like he's he
- 23:00Speaker 5: was there the whole year.
- 23:01Speaker 2: I mean, I I don't man a guy like that,
- 23:05Speaker 2: you don't know until it's weird. I think he had
- 23:08Speaker 2: respect for him because he did get put in some
- 23:09Speaker 2: he was the next man up. And what's funny, you
- 23:13Speaker 2: know he's not he's kind of a point guard, played
- 23:16Speaker 2: a lot of it just towards the end here, you know,
- 23:18Speaker 2: with the size, maybe you worry a little bit about
- 23:21Speaker 2: you know, pressure and all of that. Uless he had
- 23:28Speaker 2: a couple of decent moments in the Crown that we
- 23:31Speaker 2: kind of haven't seen, but I don't. I've never been
- 23:33Speaker 2: a big air In Ulis guy, which is why I've
- 23:35Speaker 2: always thought Rawley is a better option, because Ulis I
- 23:37Speaker 2: just a'm like, no, like, he's Rally's a little bit bigger,
- 23:40Speaker 2: thick bodied, like has a little more I think leadership
- 23:43Speaker 2: and demand and control on the court. So I've never
- 23:46Speaker 2: been a big Ulis guy. And and I mean hail
- 23:50Speaker 2: pretty much as Leak frogged him in the in this tournament.
- 23:54Speaker 2: So like again, going into next year, point guard wise,
- 23:59Speaker 2: I think we got our guy. And talk about trains
- 24:01Speaker 2: for portal here in a second, but yeah, shout out
- 24:04Speaker 2: Kale uh Yeah.
- 24:07Speaker 5: Also, you know, shout out Brice and Juan, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 5: getting out on a good note good. I mean, Bryce
- 24:15Speaker 5: had the most points in the season for Husker, passing
- 24:19Speaker 5: James Palmer Jr.
- 24:22Speaker 4: I did to think about that name real quick. JP.
- 24:26Speaker 6: What's nice about these tournaments is you can go out
- 24:29Speaker 6: and try different stuff like that, with like Kal and
- 24:32Speaker 6: all that, because you're you're not gonna roll that.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Out in the middle of the Big Ten season, like say.
- 24:37Speaker 6: This term doesn't happen, Kale goes to transfer somewhere and
- 24:39Speaker 6: no one gives a crap right now.
- 24:40Speaker 3: But now now you kind of want to keep him.
- 24:43Speaker 4: And now if people want him, yeah, now now.
- 24:45Speaker 3: You want to keep him.
- 24:46Speaker 6: So that's that's about probably the best thing you can
- 24:48Speaker 6: get from this turm.
- 24:49Speaker 3: And who knows, if he stays, he'll.
- 24:51Speaker 6: Probably he probably won't start next year here, but he
- 24:54Speaker 6: could go now and he's got yeah, he maybe he could.
- 24:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:00Speaker 2: I think that that's gonna be the big decision for him. Austin,
- 25:03Speaker 2: you mentioned Bryce and Joan. I mean, I think we
- 25:06Speaker 2: more than a shout out goes out to those guys.
- 25:09Speaker 2: I don't know, more than a shout out is Cale
- 25:12Speaker 2: get a shout out these two guys, Like I will say,
- 25:15Speaker 2: Bryce Williams was one of and Gus Johnson just confirmed
- 25:19Speaker 2: everything that I thought about Bryce and his broadcasting during
- 25:22Speaker 2: the Crown and of our games and on Bryce Williams.
- 25:25Speaker 2: He was one of the most enjoyable players for me
- 25:30Speaker 2: to watch from Nebraska because every like Bryce was the
- 25:34Speaker 2: guy right this year especially, and we talked about it
- 25:37Speaker 2: going into the year, where like Bryce needs to be
- 25:39Speaker 2: the guy. Like last year, you know, with Case he
- 25:41Speaker 2: got rank like Bryce was kind of also there. You know,
- 25:43Speaker 2: sometimes he was the number one option, Like this year
- 25:46Speaker 2: was like, nope, Bryce need to be the guy. He
- 25:47Speaker 2: was the guy this year led the big tennants scoring,
- 25:51Speaker 2: but the way he did it, and I think it
- 25:53Speaker 2: was Fred that said it. He's a four way scorer
- 25:57Speaker 2: and you know, three level scorers. You got, you know,
- 25:59Speaker 2: the mid range game, you got obviously, three point shooting,
- 26:02Speaker 2: getting too the rim before one is free throws like Bryce.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Everything he did though, was always so calm, cool, collected
- 26:11Speaker 2: Bryce Williams like it was never about him. He never
- 26:15Speaker 2: seemed flustered. He never really got too excited, like he
- 26:19Speaker 2: just was the steady constant on this group. And I mean,
- 26:22Speaker 2: I was so glad he got the opportunity to break
- 26:24Speaker 2: that record.
- 26:25Speaker 5: To like he he was.
- 26:27Speaker 4: He was.
- 26:27Speaker 2: He's been one of the most fun like level headed
- 26:30Speaker 2: players that I've seen it Nebraska since I can remember.
- 26:33Speaker 4: He's not you.
- 26:34Speaker 5: Never got frush like he scored a lot of points,
- 26:36Speaker 5: but you weren't frustrated in the same way when like
- 26:37Speaker 5: Teddy Allen was getting a lot of points to d.
- 26:40Speaker 2: I never once like you could think, oh my god, Bryce,
- 26:44Speaker 2: what are you doing? Like why that was so shitty?
- 26:48Speaker 5: Like Jewan Gary. I'll say it.
- 26:50Speaker 2: There are times were like in the year, especially late,
- 26:52Speaker 2: where he would go in and throw crap like Jawan
- 26:54Speaker 2: quit doing that crap like that's not you Bryce. Bryce
- 26:58Speaker 2: just always again, just everything about him so fun to watch.
- 27:03Speaker 2: So I wanted to talk, you know, say that about him.
- 27:05Speaker 2: And then Juan just a straight dog got m VP
- 27:12Speaker 2: of the Crown defensively and his hustle, energy, his emotion
- 27:17Speaker 2: kind of the opposite of Bryce. Right, every team needs
- 27:21Speaker 2: the guy like that on there, especially on the defensive end.
- 27:25Speaker 2: And and Juwan is everything in that and some you know,
- 27:31Speaker 2: offensive rebounding, specifically in defensive rebounding. He always is around
- 27:36Speaker 2: the ball, always knows where it's at, loose balls, and
- 27:38Speaker 2: he's always near it. And then he's he's solid enough
- 27:42Speaker 2: to make open shots. Right, Juwan is not the best shooter.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Everybody would agree to that, but gosh, he makes big
- 27:48Speaker 2: time shots when you need him. I mean even just
- 27:50Speaker 2: to start the game on Saturday or Sunday, he hit
- 27:54Speaker 2: the opening shot of the game, Like he just steps
- 27:57Speaker 2: up in big moments. You know that the drive, offensive
- 28:01Speaker 2: rebound finish in the Boise State game, that he was
- 28:06Speaker 2: incredible as well for the Crown and also worthy and deserving.
- 28:10Speaker 5: Of that m VP. Like, those two guys are special, right.
- 28:14Speaker 2: And they're gonna be very very very very very difficult
- 28:17Speaker 2: to replace. They've also both and Jawn specifically, but you know,
- 28:22Speaker 2: they both gave everything to the program coming back for
- 28:25Speaker 2: another year their senior year, Like they easily could have
- 28:30Speaker 2: entered the portal, but they wanted to do it here.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I think that says a lot again going back to
- 28:35Speaker 2: the fread thing kind of what they're trying to build.
- 28:39Speaker 2: So yeah, those two like a plus awesome, very very
- 28:44Speaker 2: much so.
- 28:46Speaker 4: Going to miss them.
- 28:51Speaker 6: You need, well, you need something to replace him because boy,
- 28:55Speaker 6: you don't have much behind him right now.
- 28:56Speaker 5: But but he's already that's something.
- 29:01Speaker 6: Yeah, all these portal players coming in Hunter things, you
- 29:07Speaker 6: got the next stud.
- 29:11Speaker 2: I don't know, so portal guys, it's still gonna be
- 29:17Speaker 2: moving parts we're gonna miss. We need to We need
- 29:22Speaker 2: to score the guy that can create what Bryce was
- 29:26Speaker 2: pretty much is what I'm talking about the season is
- 29:29Speaker 2: gonna be around. He can shoot it right, And and
- 29:31Speaker 2: the big stat that I think everybody was bragging about
- 29:35Speaker 2: was that no, none of the Huskers have entered the
- 29:36Speaker 2: portal wall one. We were still playing, so I was
- 29:39Speaker 2: like holding your horses, but a lot of them were reaffirming,
- 29:45Speaker 2: like Connor's teaching came out that I'm coming back, you know,
- 29:47Speaker 2: ranked confirmed Key's back. And that's the thing everybody's laughing
- 29:50Speaker 2: and making fun of. Oh my god, we have to
- 29:52Speaker 2: literally post about staying. Yes, it's just the time we
- 29:55Speaker 2: live it like everyone's doing it living so but right now,
- 30:00Speaker 2: like it looks like most everyone staying from this last
- 30:03Speaker 2: year's team except for oh god, Gavin Griffiths, which is
- 30:07Speaker 2: not surprising. He wasn't even suited up for the last game.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Like Dak's laughing his ass off right now.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Yeah, boy, that's a big pickup. I I called that
- 30:15Speaker 3: one out right away.
- 30:17Speaker 6: He's gonna he's done right, No one's gonna pick him.
- 30:21Speaker 2: He'll play on like a like you Illinois, No, like
- 30:25Speaker 2: an Illinois state.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Team or I don't know, he's terrible, He'll you can shoot,
- 30:34Speaker 3: long story short, he's.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Out the rest, you know, kind of seem like they're
- 30:39Speaker 2: still around. A really good follow out there on Twitter
- 30:44Speaker 2: that I get a lot of my stuff from Nebraska
- 30:46Speaker 2: basketball now is it's called Pavelka's fat uncle. But he
- 30:52Speaker 2: just he has he's a big Nebraska basketball junkie and
- 30:56Speaker 2: and has done a good job of just updating on
- 30:58Speaker 2: the portal and kind of piece our roster together for
- 31:01Speaker 2: next year what it could look like pieces coming in
- 31:03Speaker 2: going out, so it looks like guys coming back. You know, Bryce, Juwan,
- 31:09Speaker 2: Braxton Mia, I believe Rawley gone, and then you know
- 31:16Speaker 2: the other guys, the younger guys are coming back. And
- 31:18Speaker 2: then here's the additions. And I get to help me
- 31:23Speaker 2: with the one name.
- 31:23Speaker 5: But Price comes from Iowa and.
- 31:29Speaker 2: I he's the first one that kind of that committed
- 31:32Speaker 2: from the portal and it was likely to happen. He's
- 31:37Speaker 2: gonna be a shooter, Yeah, I think he's got some
- 31:40Speaker 2: ability to finish kind of like Connor does. Right, Like
- 31:42Speaker 2: he's not he's not the like an only shooter type
- 31:47Speaker 2: of guy, like all those guys that can score at
- 31:49Speaker 2: the ram if they need to. But he's gonna be
- 31:51Speaker 2: another Connor season type player that can shoot it. He's
- 31:54Speaker 2: not the really good one. He's a younger and he's
- 31:56Speaker 2: a sophomore from Iowa, but I think he scored average
- 31:59Speaker 2: about kind of game this year. He scored over ten
- 32:01Speaker 2: both times we played him, Like again, very good pickup.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Is he the level the Bryce Williams.
- 32:08Speaker 7: No, I don't think he's going to be that in
- 32:10Speaker 7: my mind.
- 32:17Speaker 5: You're gonna read the next one. No, I mean it
- 32:22Speaker 5: was early. We're just getting more shooters. We'll see if
- 32:25Speaker 5: it pans out. We've gotten a lot of shooters in
- 32:27Speaker 5: the past that don't really pan out. Plus he's an
- 32:29Speaker 5: Iowa player, and our Iowa players haven't panned out, so
- 32:32Speaker 5: I'm not super excited. But we do need more more
- 32:35Speaker 5: wing like players, so that'll help with that depth. With
- 32:41Speaker 5: Ran coming back, I think those will become more valuable
- 32:44Speaker 5: because he's much more of a point.
- 32:47Speaker 4: Forward type of big.
- 32:49Speaker 5: He's much better at sharing the ball than him our
- 32:51Speaker 5: current bigs are. Arguably, he'll be our best passer.
- 32:54Speaker 4: I don't.
- 32:56Speaker 5: I mean, I'm trying to think of who's going to
- 32:57Speaker 5: leave the team in a system very well could be
- 33:00Speaker 5: ranked masked from last time we saw him play.
- 33:03Speaker 4: At least, you.
- 33:06Speaker 6: Always need shooters, I mean, the only one you have
- 33:08Speaker 6: right now you can count I'm not counting the.
- 33:10Speaker 7: Guys that come back, but his siege didn't really yep,
- 33:13Speaker 7: and even a season kind of struggled there during the
- 33:15Speaker 7: little hot he he but but when he's hot, he's hot,
- 33:20Speaker 7: and all you know his numbers, you compare him the
- 33:23Speaker 7: case Is from last year like that, there weren't too
- 33:26Speaker 7: far off.
- 33:26Speaker 2: And I actually at times he was actually outperforming Case
- 33:30Speaker 2: from a percentage standpoint, So a little bit.
- 33:32Speaker 4: Of a better defender because he's just bigger.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Than yeah, and and and that was the weird thing.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Is you know why he never got in the starting
- 33:39Speaker 2: lineup too was puzzling. I think his defense as his
- 33:42Speaker 2: hang up, right, I never saw him too bad. But
- 33:47Speaker 2: then there are moments I'm like, oh, okay, that's why
- 33:49Speaker 2: maybe he's so Yeah, I mean, I think adding another
- 33:54Speaker 2: guy like this is is only gonna help and thatact
- 33:56Speaker 2: get right, like Nebraska basketball has struggled so much with
- 34:00Speaker 2: getting guys like this in our program, Like it's thinking,
- 34:04Speaker 2: refine them correct and and so yeah, hopefully he pants
- 34:08Speaker 2: out looks like a season I mean is I would
- 34:11Speaker 2: say he's for the most part played his part and
- 34:14Speaker 2: being a spot up shooter, like when when he when
- 34:16Speaker 2: he starts shooting, you can see how teams change their
- 34:19Speaker 2: defense to chase him. You have to draw more attention
- 34:23Speaker 2: to him. That opens other things up. That's what Case
- 34:26Speaker 2: did so well for our program last year. In the
- 34:29Speaker 2: couple of years before that, like he drew attention, and
- 34:32Speaker 2: that's what a season would do when he was on fire.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Like the team I think goes Georgetown started zone and
- 34:37Speaker 2: the second season came in, They're like, Nope, we can't
- 34:39Speaker 2: run our zone anymore because once the season gets open,
- 34:43Speaker 2: he's hitting an open shot so huge Sandford, I think
- 34:46Speaker 2: that's a good addition, a very good addition. Second one
- 34:49Speaker 2: that I don't know a whole lot about besides, I mean,
- 34:52Speaker 2: I'm looking at his name now. The first couple of
- 34:53Speaker 2: times I've seen it, I've just known him as a
- 34:55Speaker 2: Central Michigan guy because I didn't want to try to
- 34:57Speaker 2: say his name Uni Jurorsuvicious from Central Michigan. Average about
- 35:07Speaker 2: I believe it's around fifteen points a game, eight rebounds
- 35:10Speaker 2: a game, All Mac player, first teamer and forward like
- 35:16Speaker 2: he he's gonna either gonna be a big key piece.
- 35:19Speaker 2: I think to add to the rank, Mast you know
- 35:23Speaker 2: you're gonna be around you.
- 35:25Speaker 4: Like the size, I mean, it makes you feel good.
- 35:29Speaker 5: Yeah, he's competed on at a high level at the
- 35:34Speaker 5: you know, at the D one level, Like he's all
- 35:36Speaker 5: he's all mac like it's not not nothing.
- 35:39Speaker 2: I'm picturing him being like an Andrew Morgan who's also
- 35:42Speaker 2: leaving and graduating, like an extra, like a kind of
- 35:46Speaker 2: a body like that. Like to me what I've seen,
- 35:48Speaker 2: he's a and I liked Andrew Morgan the most out
- 35:51Speaker 2: of all of our posts, like you said, Dak, and
- 35:53Speaker 2: he seems to be that guy that's gonna fill in
- 35:55Speaker 2: that role and potentially could be even better I mean
- 35:59Speaker 2: as far as scoring the ball than Morgan was.
- 36:02Speaker 5: It's it's gonna be sweet to see him next play
- 36:05Speaker 5: playing next to Rank Like, I mean, those those are
- 36:07Speaker 5: just two solid offensive bigs.
- 36:13Speaker 4: I'm excited about it.
- 36:16Speaker 5: You have those two and then you have you know,
- 36:18Speaker 5: a season and hopefully Samford pays out, and then you
- 36:20Speaker 5: have I don't know, Marcus Lawrence or Cane or or sorry,
- 36:25Speaker 5: Kale Jacobson or you know, Sam Hoiberg coming in for
- 36:29Speaker 5: your guard position.
- 36:32Speaker 3: It'll be nice to have to have some depth depth
- 36:35Speaker 3: on the big.
- 36:35Speaker 6: It seems like the Huskers always just have terrible depth
- 36:38Speaker 6: in the bigs and and you could probably we'll see
- 36:42Speaker 6: how it works out. But playing them side by side,
- 36:45Speaker 6: even because Rank can step out into three right the
- 36:48Speaker 6: other guy, I have no idea if he can shoot.
- 36:50Speaker 3: A three or not. I'm guessing not the way he looks,
- 36:52Speaker 3: but I.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Don't think so from what I've seen. Here's what will
- 36:55Speaker 2: be interesting. Like you said, you know with Stay as well,
- 37:01Speaker 2: like I I'm curious how that rotation will look because
- 37:05Speaker 2: you know, Hoiberg's offensive systems have been more of a
- 37:08Speaker 2: point forward, which is ranked kind of the definition of
- 37:11Speaker 2: what that is. Andrew Morgan was not. Neither was Mia,
- 37:15Speaker 2: but they played that spot occasionally when they had to.
- 37:20Speaker 2: We really have not. I mean, Bark was in a
- 37:22Speaker 2: lot with kind of those guys. But the more that
- 37:24Speaker 2: the season went on, bar Kay became more of the
- 37:26Speaker 2: big man, right Like it was hard to play Barrikay
- 37:28Speaker 2: with Mia or barri Kay with Andrew Morgan. It just
- 37:31Speaker 2: it didn't work out well the way our offense was
- 37:35Speaker 2: designed and was running. So like, if we were to
- 37:37Speaker 2: play them together, our offensive system is going to look different.
- 37:41Speaker 5: It just will because we.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Don't typically play two bigs together often, so we'll see
- 37:48Speaker 2: how that all plays out. It's probably more next year
- 37:50Speaker 2: conversation with Jerusa, Vicious.
- 37:53Speaker 7: And Masked and mut Gel as kind of our big guys,
- 37:59Speaker 7: the best names.
- 38:00Speaker 5: I mean, they're all four. Our posts are gonna be
- 38:03Speaker 5: all four bar players, I mean Rank and whoever that
- 38:09Speaker 5: other guy from back. They all have to There's no
- 38:10Speaker 5: way they were born in America, No, none of them.
- 38:14Speaker 4: I don't think we.
- 38:16Speaker 5: Can't get him in States, but we'll get him from really,
- 38:18Speaker 5: because they don't know how bad Nebraska is.
- 38:21Speaker 4: Hey, come here, and I.
- 38:23Speaker 6: Don't know what you need to have bar kay forget
- 38:26Speaker 6: they have the ankle injury, but something you need to
- 38:29Speaker 6: just letn forget he ever had that, because God, he
- 38:30Speaker 6: was off after he came back from that.
- 38:32Speaker 2: He even was bad in the tournament.
- 38:33Speaker 5: Hey, I was not. What I was disappointed the most with.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Him is he lost his interior game. Like if he's
- 38:41Speaker 2: never a good shooter, and he thought he was, but
- 38:43Speaker 2: he kept trying to and it was like, quit shooting
- 38:45Speaker 2: the fucking ball. Like, but I think he's better inside.
- 38:49Speaker 2: He's gooder inside. Early on this season, I remember him
- 38:51Speaker 2: making some moves going to his left and.
- 38:53Speaker 7: Like, okay, this is this is good like and then
- 38:55Speaker 7: he's kind of a guard and then he just kind of.
- 38:59Speaker 5: Yeah at the bed after that injury.
- 39:04Speaker 6: You know, player's falling apart when he can't make free
- 39:06Speaker 6: throws like he can he can do anything.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:10Speaker 5: Uh last one.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Austin mentioned him earlier, but JaMarcus Lawrence coming back? Uh
- 39:15Speaker 2: was that Rhode Island last year?
- 39:17Speaker 4: Coming home?
- 39:18Speaker 2: As his Twitter said, here's a thing with JaMarcus Lawrence.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Towards the end of his time at Nebraska, he started
- 39:28Speaker 2: to become more of the score and being more aggressive
- 39:31Speaker 2: because he was forced into that role kind of like
- 39:33Speaker 2: I mean, not that Kale was forced in, but kind
- 39:35Speaker 2: of to step up. Like I can't remember everything that
- 39:37Speaker 2: was going on with that team, but he did a good,
- 39:40Speaker 2: pretty good job of doing it. And then when he
- 39:41Speaker 2: left for like, dang it, like that was that guy.
- 39:43Speaker 2: That guy had a lot of potential and he was young.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Well was coming back and I believe he played fairly
- 39:51Speaker 2: well at Rhode Island again, I double digit score. Like,
- 39:57Speaker 2: I think he's gonna be a good solid point guard
- 40:00Speaker 2: for this group that's gonna still need one of those guys.
- 40:02Speaker 2: I mean against Sam. You know, Kale stays around. Those
- 40:05Speaker 2: guys can play point. But I think having more a
- 40:09Speaker 2: true tradition traditional point guard, even in this year when
- 40:13Speaker 2: some of those like yeah with Raleigh or ulss it out.
- 40:19Speaker 5: Those scoring swamps going so many, you just need one
- 40:22Speaker 5: guy who can just study the ship, like all right,
- 40:25Speaker 5: I'm gonna get you an easy bucket.
- 40:27Speaker 4: We don't need to do anything crazy.
- 40:29Speaker 2: And this year I thought Fred was actually very good
- 40:32Speaker 2: at designing our sets and systems to where the ball
- 40:35Speaker 2: was in Bryce's hands or Jawn's on an ISO or
- 40:38Speaker 2: Morgan low post touch like it wasn't. It wasn't point
- 40:42Speaker 2: guard based. And I think when you have more movement
- 40:44Speaker 2: that only helps your scoring. DeMarcus Lawrence will be more
- 40:47Speaker 2: of a scoring point guard than what we had this year,
- 40:49Speaker 2: because we really had none this year. But I think
- 40:53Speaker 2: that's a huge It's the biggest one, in my mind,
- 40:55Speaker 2: the biggest edition. There's gonna be more pieces guy, that's
- 40:58Speaker 2: not I think we're at twelve roster spots right now,
- 41:01Speaker 2: including some of the freshmen that are coming in and
- 41:03Speaker 2: Nick Janowski, Braden Frigger and then Quentin Rhymes. We still
- 41:08Speaker 2: got some more roster spots. There's gonna be some more
- 41:10Speaker 2: moving pieces still, but it's a good start, a good
- 41:13Speaker 2: beginning build to this team for next year. And it's
- 41:18Speaker 2: going to be writing off a lot of momentum, right
- 41:19Speaker 2: like Hoiberg's in year seventh, are going to be year seven.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Like again, we started the pot. I think some people
- 41:30Speaker 2: are going to say, you know, this guy, We've got
- 41:33Speaker 2: to give him more time. Got to give him more time,
- 41:35Speaker 2: Got to give him more time.
- 41:36Speaker 4: Back to back twenty one seasons.
- 41:38Speaker 2: You know, at some point, okay, you know what, what's
- 41:40Speaker 2: our goals here? What's our objectives? Like I think everybody
- 41:44Speaker 2: would agree, getting winning a goddamn tournament game. And this
- 41:47Speaker 2: year we didn't do that. I get we didn't make
- 41:50Speaker 2: it a tournament. We fell apart at the end. It
- 41:52Speaker 2: was so disappointing the way it ended the season, didn't
- 41:54Speaker 2: even make the Big Ten tournament like whatever. But again,
- 42:00Speaker 2: given the opportunity, the boys rallied around him in the
- 42:03Speaker 2: program won what they could in the postseason by winning
- 42:09Speaker 2: the Crown Championships. That tells you something that gives you momentum,
- 42:11Speaker 2: It gives you hope for the program.
- 42:15Speaker 5: It definitely takes the off season heat off it does
- 42:18Speaker 5: you lay a stinker round one like all off season.
- 42:22Speaker 5: It's like Fred Murmers, like the articles of ten coaches
- 42:25Speaker 5: on the hottest seats.
- 42:27Speaker 4: I would have joined it.
- 42:28Speaker 2: I would have joined it and and been very strong
- 42:31Speaker 2: with that statement on what I would have thought that
- 42:33Speaker 2: that would have happened. Now you pull me back in like, great,
- 42:36Speaker 2: we're here. I still think, though, yeah, you have to
- 42:40Speaker 2: continue to show growth and progress by winning the Crown.
- 42:43Speaker 2: I think you showed that. I'm not saying next year's
- 42:48Speaker 2: inca tournament winner bust year.
- 42:50Speaker 4: But at least make the tournament.
- 42:52Speaker 5: It's pretty close to us close to that for at
- 42:56Speaker 5: least in the tournament.
- 42:58Speaker 2: And especially we say in football, what Todd Golden like fortigator,
- 43:04Speaker 2: look at his track record the past ten years and
- 43:07Speaker 2: look where he's been. He is a young he's thirty
- 43:09Speaker 2: nine years old, or his hat backwards receiving the guy
- 43:12Speaker 2: damned trophy like he is a guy again. That I've
- 43:16Speaker 2: said for football too, like if things don't work out,
- 43:19Speaker 2: I'm tired of hiring these big names. I know it's
- 43:22Speaker 2: not gonna make you feel happy. These big name coaches
- 43:24Speaker 2: that improved themselves to other places, and they have this
- 43:26Speaker 2: track record. I want a young guy doesn't give a
- 43:28Speaker 2: shit about the money. He's gonna work his ass off,
- 43:32Speaker 2: and you know what, it might fail in a couple
- 43:33Speaker 2: of years, but at least you've got a guy that
- 43:35Speaker 2: is so motivated for the right reasons. I'm not saying
- 43:38Speaker 2: rule and foyberd Art, but when you take money out
- 43:42Speaker 2: of the equation and you're just a young coach trying
- 43:44Speaker 2: to build your name, Nebraska basketball is not an end
- 43:48Speaker 2: destination for a coach unfortunately. Now maybe it is for
- 43:51Speaker 2: Fred because it's home, but for most people, it's not
- 43:55Speaker 2: gonna be husting football. Maybe that could be. So that's
- 44:00Speaker 2: my whole point is again, Bread's you did well at
- 44:04Speaker 2: Iowa State. Obviously as a coach in the NBA, Like,
- 44:08Speaker 2: you got seven years here. I mean, we're not We're
- 44:10Speaker 2: not gonna keep you here for twelve or thirteen years.
- 44:12Speaker 2: If you make it to the NSA Urnmer once every
- 44:14Speaker 2: five years and lose that game, like that's probably not
- 44:17Speaker 2: the expectation and standard that most people are gonna be
- 44:21Speaker 2: okay with in the long term. Now, keep making deep
- 44:27Speaker 2: money and winning the crown every year. I mean, I
- 44:29Speaker 2: guess I don't know. People might think that's.
- 44:31Speaker 3: A good thing.
- 44:32Speaker 2: But that's where I'm out with threads and I think, again, props,
- 44:35Speaker 2: great job, Like winning the crown is a really big thing.
- 44:39Speaker 5: I would say most I would say most Nebraska basketball fans.
- 44:42Speaker 5: The expectation, the desired expectation isn't necessarily your like a
- 44:46Speaker 5: you know, tournament or bus team where it's like, we
- 44:48Speaker 5: don't make the tournament, this season was bad.
- 44:50Speaker 4: I think it's more of like a.
- 44:51Speaker 5: Every other year we make the tournament and then there's
- 44:53Speaker 5: gonna be a couple of three year stretches where we
- 44:56Speaker 5: make it and then one year make a deep run
- 44:57Speaker 5: and then eventually we hopefully it all.
- 45:01Speaker 4: But I think that's kind of the expectation.
- 45:03Speaker 5: And so Fred, you made the tournament last year, won
- 45:06Speaker 5: the crown this year, so you know, you kind of
- 45:08Speaker 5: got to make the turn with the next year to
- 45:10Speaker 5: get to that level of expectation of like, all right,
- 45:12Speaker 5: we're flirting with the dance every year and then one
- 45:15Speaker 5: of these years we'll do you know, we'll go on
- 45:17Speaker 5: a deep run, we'll you know, make the Sweet sixteen.
- 45:19Speaker 4: And maybe they llie day.
- 45:25Speaker 2: I would say that same expectation and maybe not expectation,
- 45:28Speaker 2: but thought process goes with every kind of there's I
- 45:33Speaker 2: think there's a lot in Nebraska's probably on the bottom
- 45:35Speaker 2: edge of this grouping of basketball team like Oklahoma I
- 45:39Speaker 2: think is probably around you know, in that grouping of
- 45:42Speaker 2: like are they making it every year? Probably not, but
- 45:47Speaker 2: they you know, they want to make it once every
- 45:50Speaker 2: every three years, and you know, one of those years
- 45:53Speaker 2: maybe have a chance to make a Sweet Sixteen run.
- 45:57Speaker 2: We're obviously not a blue blood, but there's several schools
- 46:00Speaker 2: and it's break forty of them that are in that
- 46:02Speaker 2: little grouping that that's kind of what you want. And
- 46:05Speaker 2: unfortunately we're probably at the bottom of that because we've
- 46:07Speaker 2: made the tournament, you know, only once or twice in
- 46:10Speaker 2: the past twelve thirteen years.
- 46:15Speaker 5: But let's say this is the happiest and the brass
- 46:17Speaker 5: basketball fans have been in April since nineteen ever eight
- 46:22Speaker 5: or whatever.
- 46:23Speaker 4: When we won the n it.
- 46:24Speaker 5: Well, I'll tell ya, I think I said it to you.
- 46:29Speaker 4: I said it video.
- 46:32Speaker 2: Most wins in April, most went in April.
- 46:35Speaker 4: Maybe I don't know there.
- 46:39Speaker 5: I didn't send it to you. I saw the tattoo.
- 46:41Speaker 5: That was the last thing I saw. It was your crown.
- 46:43Speaker 5: Your crown tattoo.
- 46:47Speaker 2: I can't find the tweet, damn it. Well, anyways, it
- 46:51Speaker 2: was most wins in the past. There, it is most
- 46:55Speaker 2: college bathball wins in April since two thousand and two. Ready,
- 46:58Speaker 2: Yukon ten, North Carolina eight, Kansas five, Baylor four, Duke four,
- 47:04Speaker 2: Florida four, vill Nova three, and Nebraska three.
- 47:08Speaker 4: Goddamn right, what are.
- 47:09Speaker 3: You talking about? Not a blue blood.
- 47:12Speaker 5: You're talking about? Yeah, good year for Nebraska basketball. Spirits
- 47:16Speaker 5: are high, man, and we feel good about next year already.
- 47:20Speaker 6: Now, let's rewind after the Iowa game. If you have
- 47:22Speaker 6: been saying this, we'll look at put the odds on April.
- 47:26Speaker 6: What is eighth saying good year for Nebraska basketball to
- 47:29Speaker 6: that game?
- 47:31Speaker 4: Loo?
- 47:32Speaker 8: Yeah right, yeah, I had just the way things have gone,
- 47:39Speaker 8: I'm like, this team's folding, like they're done, and we didn't,
- 47:41Speaker 8: you know, even before the Iowa game.
- 47:43Speaker 5: I'm like, oh gosh, like this is happened twice this year.
- 47:46Speaker 5: We thought we were folding and done.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Guys. We at one point, I believe, were like a
- 47:51Speaker 2: ninety eight percent chance to make the tournament on some sites.
- 47:54Speaker 5: Yeah, and then we were lost six in a row.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Yes, that's that's just remind people not to give people,
- 48:00Speaker 2: you know, trauma from when it happened.
- 48:03Speaker 5: But like that, that's what happened this year.
- 48:06Speaker 2: So for them to respond the way they did and
- 48:09Speaker 2: win this again, was it a good tournament with good teams?
- 48:13Speaker 5: Again?
- 48:13Speaker 2: What are we're gonna call good? No, there's they weren't
- 48:15Speaker 2: great teams. But that's the opportunity given. And we won it.
- 48:18Speaker 2: We competed, went out and won.
- 48:20Speaker 4: So and you know was there, you know who was
- 48:23Speaker 4: there watching that win?
- 48:24Speaker 3: And here we go.
- 48:28Speaker 1: You brought it out flex.
- 48:29Speaker 4: And not wearing red, but he did have a Husker
- 48:32Speaker 4: shirt on.
- 48:33Speaker 2: I was like ninety five percent sure he was gonna
- 48:36Speaker 2: be in the championship photo.
- 48:39Speaker 3: He was not Boston. Here we go.
- 48:42Speaker 4: Yeah, let's let's hear what what's the weight watch? Dylan
- 48:45Speaker 4: watchers here?
- 48:46Speaker 2: Oh so I had the picture here in front of
- 48:48Speaker 2: me of him, you know, sitting on the throne with
- 48:51Speaker 2: the crown on his head. Guys, I'm gonna say it,
- 48:57Speaker 2: I'm I We'll see what happens this year. He needs
- 49:01Speaker 2: to stay away some all the Husker fans love it,
- 49:04Speaker 2: we eat it up. Stay away from the freaking spotlight.
- 49:08Speaker 2: I I I get your promoting the university and people
- 49:11Speaker 2: like think that's such a positive thing. I just get
- 49:15Speaker 2: so scared he's making it about himself and it's gonna
- 49:18Speaker 2: come off to players and in the program it's all
- 49:21Speaker 2: about me. Like think about if your other Husker players
- 49:24Speaker 2: like you're it's it's the Dylan Dylan Roola Show. Now
- 49:27Speaker 2: if your playbacks it up, Hey, Bravo, then it makes
- 49:30Speaker 2: it a lot more fun and enjoyable. But it's not
- 49:33Speaker 2: like Dylan Roola was a great It's not like he
- 49:35Speaker 2: was an All Star last year. I guess he's he's
- 49:38Speaker 2: make his Ever since he said he's coming back, it
- 49:41Speaker 2: has been all about Dylan every event high school is
- 49:44Speaker 2: a freaking professional. He's been every guy's everywhere, like Supernova
- 49:49Speaker 2: game to Omaha Scott high school games too.
- 49:52Speaker 5: He went to so many high school basketball games.
- 49:54Speaker 2: He's everywhere. And again I get that could be support,
- 49:58Speaker 2: but I I like, I get it's scared as becoming
- 50:02Speaker 2: too much about him and it's not putting the team first,
- 50:05Speaker 2: and that this is this is my not a red flag,
- 50:08Speaker 2: but a little orange flag coming out where I'm just
- 50:10Speaker 2: I'm seeing it and it's coming like if it should
- 50:14Speaker 2: go south, this is going to be a big part
- 50:16Speaker 2: of it. And I get you want to promote and
- 50:18Speaker 2: support the school. I get that, but there's a probably
- 50:22Speaker 2: a time and place to do it when you can
- 50:24Speaker 2: do it. We have not earned the right to do
- 50:26Speaker 2: that yet, like he has not. I don't think he has,
- 50:29Speaker 2: like he wants to.
- 50:30Speaker 5: I get it.
- 50:31Speaker 2: He's got a big name in a big nil package
- 50:33Speaker 2: like Bravo.
- 50:35Speaker 5: I don't know, man, if I'm in college, I'm making
- 50:38Speaker 5: six million.
- 50:39Speaker 4: I don't know how which is.
- 50:40Speaker 1: I know.
- 50:41Speaker 5: I get that I'm flying to Vegas to watch my
- 50:43Speaker 5: college basketball team.
- 50:45Speaker 4: I guess I.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Don't think I'm flying to Vegas to watch basketball. You
- 50:49Speaker 3: know what?
- 50:50Speaker 1: You know?
- 50:50Speaker 2: What I would have liked to see is him to
- 50:52Speaker 2: grab the the eight offensive linemen that are going to
- 50:55Speaker 2: be with him next year and go do it with him,
- 50:56Speaker 2: Like I know he's brought like Emmitt Johnson with him
- 51:00Speaker 2: a few games.
- 51:00Speaker 4: That's the yes I have to say.
- 51:03Speaker 5: Like he seems to be at all these things by himself,
- 51:06Speaker 5: or he's.
- 51:06Speaker 2: Sitting in the VIP section, like wearing purple to this
- 51:10Speaker 2: stupid Minnesota game.
- 51:11Speaker 5: Like that pissed me off, Like do it?
- 51:13Speaker 2: Do it with your teammates in a group, because once
- 51:16Speaker 2: you start making it about yourself, the second things go
- 51:19Speaker 2: wrong and there's gonna be a ton of adversity in
- 51:21Speaker 2: the fall, Like guys are not gonna have your back
- 51:26Speaker 2: as much as they would if you're a team orion
- 51:27Speaker 2: a guy. First, I'm not saying he's not because we
- 51:29Speaker 2: don't know that. I'm not we're not in the locker room,
- 51:32Speaker 2: but that just the perception that gives off and you
- 51:34Speaker 2: can't tell me some of the players aren't looking at
- 51:37Speaker 2: that and going, well, this is Dylan Royola's team, and
- 51:41Speaker 2: again that could be okay. Like I like that he
- 51:44Speaker 2: led him out of the locker room to start. I
- 51:46Speaker 2: didn't mind that because he was very I don't say calm,
- 51:51Speaker 2: but very good with the media and his words and
- 51:53Speaker 2: the team when he talks to the media. His freshman year,
- 51:56Speaker 2: I thought he did a very good job of that.
- 51:59Speaker 2: But if you start taking it to a next level,
- 52:01Speaker 2: and he had some humility too in the game that
- 52:03Speaker 2: he played at Like that's where you start getting the
- 52:06Speaker 2: Scott Frost like it's my way or the highway, I'm arrogant,
- 52:10Speaker 2: like start blaming other people like that. That's where Scott
- 52:13Speaker 2: started going down that path. And he was the golden
- 52:16Speaker 2: child of the Nebraska football Scott Frost was, and he's
- 52:19Speaker 2: gonna bring everything back, like now Dylan Royola is that guy.
- 52:22Speaker 2: Like Dylan Royola is supposed to be the guy to
- 52:24Speaker 2: bring the brask football back.
- 52:25Speaker 5: It's his job.
- 52:26Speaker 2: And if you start eating that up and soaking it in,
- 52:30Speaker 2: it's gonna start having negative and and we do it.
- 52:32Speaker 2: It's our media. It's us that put all of it
- 52:36Speaker 2: at the crap out there and publicize it and then
- 52:38Speaker 2: it gets blown out of proportion and probably more than
- 52:40Speaker 2: it needs to be. But that's the reality of what
- 52:43Speaker 2: happens with Nebraska media and why I don't think the
- 52:46Speaker 2: fans and the media are the problem. I've done, I'm done,
- 52:49Speaker 2: and you stop.
- 52:51Speaker 5: Counter argument would be, yes, he's in college, Yes he
- 52:56Speaker 5: makes a shit ton of money, but he gets there's
- 52:58Speaker 5: a lot of pressure that comes with the He might
- 53:00Speaker 5: as well reap the benefits while you're also at it,
- 53:03Speaker 5: you know.
- 53:04Speaker 2: But that's that's it's not selfish, but that's putting yourself
- 53:09Speaker 2: above you your teammates.
- 53:11Speaker 5: He's not putting, he's not, But in what way is
- 53:14Speaker 5: him going to a high school basketball game? How is
- 53:16Speaker 5: he putting himself in front of his teammates. In what
- 53:18Speaker 5: way is he degrading? He's like, if I'm more important
- 53:21Speaker 5: than my team, He's like, no, I'm gonna go watch
- 53:22Speaker 5: a high school basketball game, and everyone cares that I'm
- 53:25Speaker 5: at the basketball game.
- 53:27Speaker 3: He really likes to find the camera.
- 53:30Speaker 4: He does like the camera. All right, I know you're
- 53:37Speaker 4: tired about him being there.
- 53:40Speaker 6: I'm kind of leaning the hunter side. I think he's
- 53:44Speaker 6: I think he's there to be in the spotlight.
- 53:48Speaker 2: And a what Austin saying is that's okay. He's like,
- 53:52Speaker 2: why why, why, why why can't he do that? I'm
- 53:54Speaker 2: just saying it from he can't, he can't and and
- 53:57Speaker 2: and I just think from a perception standpoint, he just
- 54:00Speaker 2: continues it is and it's not wrong. The messages is
- 54:03Speaker 2: Dylan's team or bust and and like that could be
- 54:07Speaker 2: the case. Now, the comments coming out of spring practice,
- 54:10Speaker 2: the very few that I've heard and seen, like it
- 54:14Speaker 2: sounds like Jalen Grahamstead and him are doing a good
- 54:16Speaker 2: job pushing each other like that sounds like it's a
- 54:18Speaker 2: very good which we hear that every year, I know,
- 54:21Speaker 2: like very good competition between the two. So anyway, there's
- 54:26Speaker 2: a lot of Dylan Roola talk. I think there's probably
- 54:31Speaker 2: a whole other episode that we need to get to
- 54:33Speaker 2: about spring practice and talking about the updates in the
- 54:36Speaker 2: football season before we officially kind of put a cap
- 54:39Speaker 2: on the what season season six of the podcast?
- 54:44Speaker 4: Season six, Season six?
- 54:47Speaker 2: Wow, Like, I think I think there's yeah discussion there
- 54:51Speaker 2: as we get closer to the spring. What are they
- 54:56Speaker 2: calling a spring day?
- 54:58Speaker 3: Fun day?
- 54:59Speaker 2: But the fun day the then see you guys, I'm
- 55:03Speaker 2: sure I will be We could.
- 55:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I don't see why not six.
- 55:08Speaker 5: I thought about going out. I don't really want to
- 55:10Speaker 5: go to the games, but.
- 55:13Speaker 2: No, Lincoln will be like at the spring game. That's
- 55:16Speaker 2: and that's the that's that's why they're doing it this way.
- 55:18Speaker 2: They want to make it still a vent even without
- 55:21Speaker 2: the game, which I think is completely smart on rules part.
- 55:25Speaker 5: Like I like that decision, but that's the.
- 55:30Speaker 2: City of Lincoln and the Husker program in general still
- 55:33Speaker 2: wants to reap the benefits of what the spring game is,
- 55:37Speaker 2: and I think they're doing it right. I think they'll
- 55:40Speaker 2: still be a good decent turnout in downtown Lincoln. Volleyball
- 55:44Speaker 2: is playing an exhibition game that night at the Divannay
- 55:46Speaker 2: Center as well, so that you have that going for you,
- 55:51Speaker 2: they're gonna be p I'm guessing some sort.
- 55:52Speaker 5: Of skills thing.
- 55:54Speaker 2: So I mean it's going to be a day that
- 55:56Speaker 2: people have circle in their calendars that are going to
- 55:58Speaker 2: pay attention to it, whatever that is. And I mean
- 56:01Speaker 2: I'm already saying I'll probably be out and about.
- 56:05Speaker 4: Yeah it'll be good.
- 56:07Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, it'll be different, not quite as fun
- 56:10Speaker 5: as the Spring Game, but it'll still be good.
- 56:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it'll be a fun day.
- 56:18Speaker 2: That's all that's gonna say.
- 56:21Speaker 4: Will remember.
- 56:24Speaker 2: At the deep sigh.
- 56:28Speaker 6: I do love the Spring game day.
- 56:33Speaker 2: Is it's it's always the one day of the year
- 56:36Speaker 2: that we gotta get to think we have a game day.
- 56:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's the last time. It's a lot August So.
- 56:44Speaker 2: Okay, last topic, last thing here. Masters week, it's one
- 56:51Speaker 2: of them. This is one of my favorite. I think
- 56:54Speaker 2: I probably say this every year. Stretches of the year
- 56:57Speaker 2: where you where you have madness, you know, the Final
- 57:00Speaker 2: Four and then the Masters and then you jump right
- 57:03Speaker 2: into the first round in NBA playoffs here coming up?
- 57:10Speaker 3: What do you what?
- 57:11Speaker 4: Who do you?
- 57:12Speaker 2: Scotty and Rory are the two like.
- 57:14Speaker 5: It's tough to pick against Scotty favorites. Rory's gonna joke
- 57:20Speaker 5: it away like he always does. No way in heck
- 57:23Speaker 5: does Ry. He's not gonna win it. I don't know
- 57:25Speaker 5: why anyone.
- 57:27Speaker 2: Rory needs it for his you know, Grand Slam Majors.
- 57:31Speaker 2: Scotty has not won yet this year. I don't think
- 57:33Speaker 2: it won in a while. And then the down part
- 57:36Speaker 2: with him is that he I think he gained like
- 57:38Speaker 2: seven strokes putting the other other day and still did
- 57:41Speaker 2: not win the tournament, which for Scotty that's unheard of
- 57:43Speaker 2: because he's typically a good game.
- 57:49Speaker 5: Who if you had to pick.
- 57:50Speaker 2: One winner regardless of the odds, like who you picking.
- 57:55Speaker 4: Scotty?
- 57:57Speaker 5: I mean because he's I think he's the best golfer
- 58:01Speaker 5: right now. I know he's having a little bit of
- 58:03Speaker 5: a downstretch, but I do think he's the best golfer.
- 58:07Speaker 3: I'm gonna go Jordan speed.
- 58:11Speaker 4: Ooh a little master's boy.
- 58:14Speaker 6: Why he loves the course he's been playing. I know
- 58:18Speaker 6: you had a bad beat last week or like pretty bad,
- 58:21Speaker 6: but he's been playing better. I think he loves the course.
- 58:26Speaker 6: Who like he always plays well here?
- 58:29Speaker 7: I guess I definitely it's interesting. Out of anybody who
- 58:33Speaker 7: could pick, you pick Jordan Speed.
- 58:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm going.
- 58:39Speaker 2: I'm going to someone that I think is not getting
- 58:42Speaker 2: talked about a lot, but we don't really know what
- 58:43Speaker 2: they're doing because I don't think many people pay attention
- 58:46Speaker 2: to live is what.
- 58:49Speaker 5: It has been.
- 58:50Speaker 2: John Ram who I'm taking to win, and he's you know,
- 58:55Speaker 2: he's not the favorite by any means, but he's up there.
- 58:59Speaker 2: I just think when gets going out, Ron's one of
- 59:01Speaker 2: those guys that I always think, here's how rom plays.
- 59:03Speaker 5: He's either.
- 59:06Speaker 2: Right around the mix the entire weekend or and then
- 59:09Speaker 2: then he has a chance to win, or what he does.
- 59:11Speaker 2: He plays crappy one of the first two days and
- 59:14Speaker 2: then he like plays really well Saturday or Sunday, and
- 59:16Speaker 2: all of a sudden he ends up like thirteenth. He's
- 59:19Speaker 2: gonna have to play well all four days to win,
- 59:21Speaker 2: and obviously anybody does if you're at the Masters. But
- 59:24Speaker 2: I think this could be a week. You know, I
- 59:26Speaker 2: don't think there's about pressure on him right now. You
- 59:28Speaker 2: know the pressures with Rory for sure. You know Scotty's
- 59:31Speaker 2: could go back to back, I don't think, and win
- 59:33Speaker 2: three of the last four like that hasn't been done.
- 59:36Speaker 2: I can't remember the stat I heard in a long time.
- 59:38Speaker 2: If ever, I'm going back to back hasn't been done
- 59:40Speaker 2: in a long time. You know, Scotty's got that pressure
- 59:44Speaker 2: on him.
- 59:44Speaker 5: So I don't know.
- 59:45Speaker 2: I love Masters a week. It's it'll be fun Thursday.
- 59:49Speaker 4: So said is you're having a month. I feel like.
- 59:57Speaker 5: But our bowling team, they made the final four. I
- 59:59Speaker 5: don't know how to shook out.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: Of course, I have no idea, Miss I know the
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: baseball team. I really don't want I don't want to
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: talk about them. Besides, they're like series win against Oregon
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: State that was awesome, and then you lose and become
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: the worst team in the state to create an in
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: you and O.
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: No one's really creating a U n L game next week.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: So and then what I think we just won two
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: or three year I can't Maybe I remember one yesterday
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: or not against Ruggers, but it's not It's not been
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: the best year for the baseball team by any means.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: I think that their chances of, you know, even after
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: the Oregon State maybe squeaking into an at large tournament
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: type birth was up for grab. But now after I mean,
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: you can't lose the way we've lost some of these
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: games and series. So I think only way in is
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: winning the Big Ten tournament, which I'm not going to
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: say is out of the question because the Big Tens not.
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: Basically baseball.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: So get hot at the right time, you can get
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: you know, get that automatic bid.
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: Softball team is playing well.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: You know, Jordy Jordie's performing as expected, which is very well.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: And you know they're right around the top twenty five,
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: even sneaking in there for a while. And I don't
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: know if we're still in the top twenty five. So
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: that got a lot better than the baseball team.
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: I looked at there are some softball jerseys on sale
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: and I was like, I don't know, maybe I get
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: a softball jersey. She got me something else. I just
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: had a list I should have I should have wrote
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: him down.
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: Outside of that, you know, obviously, NBA Western Conference is crazy?
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: Is that close? Podcasting again, Life's good?
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: Something's geez something? Should just beat the Knicks.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: Yeah, Coopair, I hope.
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: Is awkward thing? Get to stay healthy this whole year?
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: Who knows, but he was sick for half of it.
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: Wasn't he.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and he looked like you got like a black
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: eye or something. I don't know. He'll break his leg
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: eventually here, but hey, he's healthy right now.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: All right, Well, we will way back sometime. Not going
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: to guarantee you next week.
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: But we've been a old spotty, you know, busy. We'll
- 1:02:26Speaker 7: try to get a couple more episodes in here.
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: I'll try and throw a medical issue.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: Hey, at least he hit his DEDUCTI ball already, Yeah.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: I did.
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: You might as well get your golfer out.
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: It's not I can do whatever I want now.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: Don't give him any ideas, all right, Crown Champs twenty
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: twenty five, go big Red GVR.
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: He'll be grid
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: T
