- 2:09Speaker 4: Let's start off, where were you born? Born in Philadelphia?
- 2:15Speaker 1: I give the year girls, nineteen hundreds. We're gonna go
- 2:25Speaker 1: with the nineteen hundreds. We're gonna let the nineteen.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Hundred baby period.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Okay, born and Raisin born and raised in Philly. Let's
- 2:33Speaker 1: say moved to Italy, started second grade there. So what
- 2:37Speaker 1: was I about?
- 2:37Speaker 4: Like?
- 2:38Speaker 1: Seven? I want I say six seven because my kids
- 2:40Speaker 1: always take six seven ruined everything everything, But I don't really
- 2:46Speaker 1: how much I say it six.
- 2:48Speaker 2: It's like six seven. You have to say it at
- 2:50Speaker 2: some point, like kids, just.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Let us be greater.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Hopefully we just ruined it and they'll stop think we're
- 2:57Speaker 1: doing that.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Correct.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Seven you were in Italy. Okay, yep, second grade, brother
- 3:03Speaker 1: started first grade, my sister third. So we were like stairstep.
- 3:07Speaker 4: What part of Italy?
- 3:09Speaker 1: We moved to Pistoia first, which is by like Reaty,
- 3:14Speaker 1: which is the kind of in the middle.
- 3:16Speaker 5: I love Italy, so we love Italy.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Like girls trip my girls.
- 3:25Speaker 4: We went to Rome for four days and we'll talk
- 3:28Speaker 4: here about it later, but we'll go back. Okay to Italy.
- 3:31Speaker 1: So Italy. I think it was just a huge change
- 3:35Speaker 1: for us. I mean just not speaking the language at
- 3:39Speaker 1: all and being thrust into this, you know, school, like immediately,
- 3:42Speaker 1: my parents weren't like you're going to international school where
- 3:45Speaker 1: you speak predominantly English. Literally went to an Italian speaking school,
- 3:51Speaker 1: nuns in all like literally like a Catherine. Yes, it
- 3:54Speaker 1: was totally different. I remember my parents dropping us off
- 3:58Speaker 1: and it's like, okay, have a good day. I just
- 4:00Speaker 1: remember crying, like literally, like but it was the best
- 4:05Speaker 1: thing ever because you're literally in it and you're forced
- 4:08Speaker 1: to learn a language, and when you're that young, you're
- 4:10Speaker 1: just a sponge, so you just soak everything in, which
- 4:14Speaker 1: was great. So very thankful for that experience.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Give us an Italian phrase, like anything what is it?
- 4:21Speaker 4: Let see try I'm over here like bones.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Okay, okay, pasta, that's all I got.
- 4:43Speaker 2: My name is How long did it take you to
- 4:45Speaker 2: learn the language?
- 4:47Speaker 1: It was fairly quick. I think we're like I said,
- 4:49Speaker 1: you're that young. You just soak it all in. So,
- 4:52Speaker 1: I mean at some point myself and my siblings we
- 4:54Speaker 1: would just talk all the time in Italian. My parents
- 4:56Speaker 1: are like whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on now because
- 4:58Speaker 1: we don't understand live go to English in the house.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Yeah, English in the house.
- 5:02Speaker 1: It was quick. I would probably say a couple of months.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Really made four or five months, but really soak it
- 5:08Speaker 1: in where we're doing homework and things like that. Probably
- 5:11Speaker 1: a good year. I'll say a year and a half
- 5:14Speaker 1: to fully understand pretty quick.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, to learn a whole language in a year.
- 5:19Speaker 4: I took Spanish for and I said, four year old,
- 5:22Speaker 4: I still don't know Spanish that well. I need to
- 5:24Speaker 4: know okay, but that's beautiful okay, see yeah, yeah we
- 5:28Speaker 4: could change that though, Yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I need to.
- 5:30Speaker 4: So you spent ho So you spent how many years
- 5:32Speaker 4: in Italy? And then when did you come back to.
- 5:33Speaker 1: The same So we spent eight years in Italy where
- 5:37Speaker 1: my dad played. And then I don't know if people
- 5:39Speaker 1: know this, but we moved to France. So my dad
- 5:43Speaker 1: played basketball in France for a little bit as well,
- 5:45Speaker 1: like towards the end of his career. And there we
- 5:49Speaker 1: went to an international school in Basel in Switzerland. I know,
- 5:54Speaker 1: because at that point we were older, right, so we're
- 5:56Speaker 1: going to pick up a whole new language as well
- 5:58Speaker 1: and start speaking French. So they didn't want to put
- 6:00Speaker 1: us into a French speaking school, so we went to
- 6:03Speaker 1: international school where the language was English, and then you
- 6:06Speaker 1: had everybody else from all other countries as well, so
- 6:09Speaker 1: and that was fun.
- 6:11Speaker 4: That's awesome fun. So Switzerland was your favorite.
- 6:15Speaker 1: As far as school, yes, because there were so many
- 6:17Speaker 1: different cultures and you know, people there from Turkey, from Africa,
- 6:23Speaker 1: from you know, Germany, just everywhere. So it was really cool.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Do you go back to visit?
- 6:27Speaker 1: I haven't been back, but I told my kids that
- 6:29Speaker 1: we need to Italy. Yes, Okay, my kids have not
- 6:32Speaker 1: been yet. I just don't know. They'll be like, is
- 6:35Speaker 1: their WiFi? You know what I mean? Like I'll be like, yes,
- 6:38Speaker 1: like what are we doing?
- 6:41Speaker 4: Kind of like Okay, So when you move back to
- 6:43Speaker 4: the States. Did you go back to Philly or La.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Nope, we went right back to Philly. Okay, So I
- 6:48Speaker 1: started freshman year and then that was such a culture shock,
- 6:53Speaker 1: by the way, I'm sure, I mean lockers, Like all
- 6:57Speaker 1: we saw was was staved by the belly, right, So
- 7:00Speaker 1: that's all I knew. Kind of just trying to understand
- 7:02Speaker 1: that whole dynamic lockers. That was the anxiety for me.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I'm like, what happens if I don't remember my coat?
- 7:07Speaker 4: Like, what happens if I don't do this? Be fine?
- 7:11Speaker 1: And I think just trying to find our way in
- 7:13Speaker 1: our space because we came back. We dressed so different too, right,
- 7:17Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know I had cross colors. I
- 7:19Speaker 1: thought that was cool.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Cross colors.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Oh my god, I'm old.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Jesus cross colors.
- 7:27Speaker 1: What is that like brand?
- 7:30Speaker 5: So you were born in the nineties, that's why it
- 7:32Speaker 5: was like a nineties brand. I know.
- 7:34Speaker 4: I'm sorry, y'all, Okay, you're not old. My cross colors.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I was rocketed too.
- 7:41Speaker 4: I thought they were trying to bring it back at
- 7:43Speaker 4: something they need to.
- 7:44Speaker 5: They need to because they're they're kind of doing another
- 7:46Speaker 5: way across definitely, Like I mean, just think of TLC.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Remember they used to have on all the bright clothes. Yeah,
- 7:53Speaker 2: cross colors.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, so that's what y'all were doing in Philly
- 7:57Speaker 4: or is.
- 7:57Speaker 1: That what you what I was doing in Philly? In
- 8:00Speaker 1: Europe it was more what is it united colors of Benetton,
- 8:03Speaker 1: sizzly that kind of I don't know, it's totally different.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I think it was just a culture shock for us too,
- 8:08Speaker 1: and then seeing a lot more of us, right which
- 8:12Speaker 1: Italy they had, but they were mostly either Moroccan or
- 8:16Speaker 1: you know, so that was a little bit different.
- 8:17Speaker 5: But yeah, so when you're in school in Europe, I
- 8:20Speaker 5: was like making friends against when you came back to
- 8:24Speaker 5: the States and making friends and what is it like
- 8:26Speaker 5: the school experience?
- 8:27Speaker 4: The school experience?
- 8:28Speaker 1: I mean coming back to the States, it was hard
- 8:31Speaker 1: because there's so many different slang words and things that
- 8:33Speaker 1: we didn't know.
- 8:35Speaker 4: So people will talk to us. What's the billy slang
- 8:39Speaker 4: that people know?
- 8:40Speaker 1: John? John? Is everything John? Like? Look at that John?
- 8:48Speaker 1: That John like everything that John's I'm like, I don't
- 8:52Speaker 1: know either. I was like, okay, so yes, I think,
- 8:56Speaker 1: oh yeah, I oh my god.
- 8:59Speaker 4: We've like water ICs.
- 9:02Speaker 5: Like icy from somebody over this.
- 9:09Speaker 1: The ball. Oh yeah, yumbo, like yum.
- 9:14Speaker 4: I know that, I know that.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Oh just kidding, just kidding.
- 9:24Speaker 4: I was like, no, I'm from l A. Okay, Well
- 9:28Speaker 4: it was so after So when was the first moment
- 9:33Speaker 4: you realized dad had a different job.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Well, I think a different job from in Italy.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Because okay, are we moving? Okay, what are we doing?
- 9:41Speaker 4: Where are we going?
- 9:43Speaker 1: Because I don't remember when he played in the NBA.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I was so young, like one, two, three, you know,
- 9:47Speaker 1: I don't remember, but I do remember packing up and
- 9:51Speaker 1: my mom's like, okay, we're moving to Italy. We're like okay,
- 9:55Speaker 1: like where is it where we gotta go? Like, so
- 9:57Speaker 1: we just went. It was amazing experience. I think. One
- 10:01Speaker 1: beautiful thing just so I note about my mom is
- 10:04Speaker 1: wherever we went, she will make a house a home
- 10:07Speaker 1: anywhere and quick. So it never felt like we were
- 10:12Speaker 1: you know, out of place or you know, just not settled,
- 10:16Speaker 1: which was nice.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Does she have to bounce around a lot with your dad? Before?
- 10:21Speaker 4: Was he drafted in Philly?
- 10:22Speaker 1: He was drafted to the Sixers. I believe, yes, he
- 10:25Speaker 1: was drafted to the Sixers, but I know he played
- 10:27Speaker 1: for the What is San Diego I'm gonna say Clippers.
- 10:30Speaker 1: At that time, there were San Diego played for the
- 10:33Speaker 1: Houston Rockets. I think those are the three teams. But
- 10:37Speaker 1: like I said, I don't remember that part because I
- 10:40Speaker 1: was so young, but definitely in Italy. I think it
- 10:42Speaker 1: was just after the game and all the fans just
- 10:45Speaker 1: Joe Bryan like they're saying so, like, you know, it's interesting.
- 10:51Speaker 1: And then the fans in Europe are different. Oh no,
- 10:55Speaker 1: they are hype turned up like flares and the stands.
- 10:59Speaker 1: I'm doing smoke detectives, like what's going on here? Not
- 11:02Speaker 1: the building about to burn down? And jumping up and down.
- 11:07Speaker 4: I say, okay, okay, we're jumping. We're jumping, we're jumping.
- 11:12Speaker 4: So how did jelly bean come about? Oh?
- 11:14Speaker 1: My dad loves jelly beans.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Oh and so do I my favorite color.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Okay, I'm sorry, ques Ones, I can't do so. The
- 11:24Speaker 1: only candy and literally is jelly beans, their jelly bellies
- 11:29Speaker 1: and their tropical flavor. So you have the coconut, the banana,
- 11:34Speaker 1: like all the good kind. Okay, I have some in
- 11:36Speaker 1: my bag at all times. Just today, all right, So
- 11:39Speaker 1: we get some jelly beans and some jelly be you know,
- 11:42Speaker 1: I love you off. I share though, just so we're okay,
- 11:45Speaker 1: we'll get you. There's no red. They're all tropical, tropical
- 11:52Speaker 1: like bananas like, okay, even better coconut.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Like I like, okay, I I drink coconut water.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Do you still have friends from Italy?
- 12:01Speaker 1: Like?
- 12:01Speaker 2: Do you keep in touch with?
- 12:02Speaker 1: I do? But thank God for social media? Right, so?
- 12:05Speaker 1: I think at some point you used to have like pimpiles,
- 12:08Speaker 1: you know, where you write and it takes forever to
- 12:09Speaker 1: get the letter and then you send it back and postcards.
- 12:12Speaker 1: But now it's like straight Facebook message, you know what
- 12:13Speaker 1: I mean? Or like Instagram.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah, because my godparents are Italian, so they're there. Yeah,
- 12:19Speaker 1: so I keep in touch with them and my god brothers.
- 12:23Speaker 1: One's a dentist, want's a doctor, like they do them
- 12:25Speaker 1: very well.
- 12:27Speaker 4: See y'all for a little bit and hang out. Okay,
- 12:29Speaker 4: but yeah, So what did a normal day in the
- 12:32Speaker 4: Brant household look like when you're in high school? You
- 12:36Speaker 4: came back?
- 12:36Speaker 1: Oh, let's see high school when I came back. Normal day.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Get up in the morning, Breakfast is on the table,
- 12:44Speaker 1: and Mom will cook like creama weed or oatmeal, eggs, bacon,
- 12:48Speaker 1: biscuits like a full spread, she gets us fed. She
- 12:53Speaker 1: was that mom. Okay, yeah, we rarely took the bus
- 12:58Speaker 1: majority of the time. They would always drive us.
- 13:00Speaker 4: I think that's a born to the game thing. I've
- 13:02Speaker 4: never taken.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Yeah, except for like, if you have games and things
- 13:06Speaker 1: of that nature, right then you have to take the
- 13:08Speaker 1: bus and things like that. But other than that, they
- 13:09Speaker 1: will drop us off, kick us up. Yeah, and then
- 13:14Speaker 1: after school activities and depends on everyone's schedule, where everyone is,
- 13:18Speaker 1: dinner's always ready. I was that kid. I will step
- 13:21Speaker 1: right on the doorstep and like hot roast. Yeah, I
- 13:25Speaker 1: can smell it before I even hit open. I was like, yes,
- 13:29Speaker 1: so yeah, dude, ready.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Did basketball take up your entire just world? Like what
- 13:35Speaker 4: a basketball? I guess mean to you at that time?
- 13:38Speaker 1: It's so crazy. I feel like that's almost all we
- 13:40Speaker 1: knew too. Oh I played some articles. I'm not say.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I was like, okay, okay, back in the day, not
- 13:49Speaker 1: these knees though, not now, not these forward forward.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Yeah, it was good you play in college, did you?
- 13:57Speaker 4: I did not.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I chose volleyball, okay, and the only reason because they're
- 14:05Speaker 1: cute uniforms.
- 14:08Speaker 2: That's what I look.
- 14:09Speaker 5: I'm telling our moms or sisters, so like like growing up,
- 14:16Speaker 5: we didn't grow up like like in the same state,
- 14:18Speaker 5: but like we kept in touch.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Or whatever, but ain't.
- 14:21Speaker 5: Terry would tell my mom right switched from basketball to
- 14:24Speaker 5: volleyball because of the shorts.
- 14:27Speaker 4: She was like the shorts of baggy and basketball and it.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Was a cuter outfit.
- 14:31Speaker 4: We were like, it makes sense. I did an interview
- 14:34Speaker 4: once and I said that, and I don't think it
- 14:37Speaker 4: it resonated, didn't.
- 14:39Speaker 2: But that was back, you know, It's like, that's what
- 14:45Speaker 2: it was.
- 14:46Speaker 4: But I think some people viewed it as me saying
- 14:49Speaker 4: that it was manly, and that's not what I was saying.
- 14:53Speaker 4: I was just saying, I like, I like shorts. I
- 14:57Speaker 4: just thought I was and the big kneed path.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I mean, the whole culture is cute. It's cute and
- 15:03Speaker 2: so's but we.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Understand college volleyball and then high school as well. But
- 15:11Speaker 1: also my family they kept us busy, so we did basketball,
- 15:15Speaker 1: track and field and volleyball.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Family full of athletes. Was your sister an.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Athlete, Yes, track and field, but she did all like
- 15:23Speaker 1: the high jump, the hurdles. I did all the field events.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I'll throw some stuff in a minute.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Was your mom and athlete.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Mom is pretty tall now.
- 15:34Speaker 4: She she's like five ten.
- 15:36Speaker 1: On a day she likes to say, she's like, you know,
- 15:39Speaker 1: she's like, you know us tall Okay, okay, okay, mom,
- 15:44Speaker 1: no fine, I know our family is sure.
- 15:47Speaker 2: That's true.
- 15:48Speaker 1: That makes okay, that's true, which is crazy.
- 15:50Speaker 4: So give us the height breakdown.
- 15:52Speaker 1: So mom's five ten, my sister's about five ten. I'm
- 15:57Speaker 1: six two. Co was that what six set?
- 16:00Speaker 4: There?
- 16:01Speaker 1: We go six seven? Is okay? I't even saying that
- 16:04Speaker 1: I want to go in the six eight round. I
- 16:06Speaker 1: just want to go six eight. My dad's six ten,
- 16:10Speaker 1: so that's a that's.
- 16:11Speaker 2: A tall family. Mother was like her grocery bill.
- 16:16Speaker 1: I can't even imagine. Because now I'm trying to be
- 16:18Speaker 1: my three kids. I'm like, can y'all use your school
- 16:20Speaker 1: stomic please, because clearly school serious. They're young, they're twelve, fourteen,
- 16:27Speaker 1: and seventeen, but.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Boys they're going to be Yeah.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Because my husband's six.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Ten, Oh honey, I didn't realize he was that tall.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Oh honey, anybody saw my husband is six six, six
- 16:40Speaker 2: six and six ten, or that Evan is six nine.
- 16:43Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. And so he's your husband's taller
- 16:46Speaker 4: than Evan. Oh lord, yeah, bless your grocery bill.
- 16:50Speaker 1: It's pretty wild.
- 16:51Speaker 4: I mean, but think for Grandma. I think the big
- 16:56Speaker 4: and tall. But it's so crazy because before it's.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Like more big than tall, right, So the more you
- 17:02Speaker 1: go up, everything gets whiter versus going up and height
- 17:05Speaker 1: like vertical.
- 17:06Speaker 5: So okay, sounds like a business idea to.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Especially for kids too. That was the hardest trying to
- 17:12Speaker 1: find pants to fit my boys because they're so slim
- 17:15Speaker 1: but just really long ors tall.
- 17:17Speaker 5: And then not looking like not looking grown because I
- 17:20Speaker 5: with you guys.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Like they would, but they were like six. I was like,
- 17:25Speaker 2: you can't wear you know, because you know.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:30Speaker 4: So who's the funniest in the family?
- 17:32Speaker 1: Oh me for sure, hands down. Next question, since.
- 17:41Speaker 4: That was already period, who would win in a family debate?
- 17:47Speaker 1: Probably my brother, I could see that. I guess you'll
- 17:50Speaker 1: just sit there and think yes, and if I just
- 17:52Speaker 1: stare at you too for a bit until you finish,
- 17:54Speaker 1: you know, your whole piece, and then be like they're
- 17:57Speaker 1: super calm. Definitely my brother.
- 17:59Speaker 4: Okay, what was a rule in your house that made
- 18:04Speaker 4: absolutely no sense?
- 18:06Speaker 1: I don't know if there was a rule in that
- 18:08Speaker 1: I mean leave it up to my parents. If it's
- 18:10Speaker 1: a rule, it makes sense period. You just don't question, like, okay,
- 18:15Speaker 1: but my dad did have a rule when we left
- 18:17Speaker 1: the car to go into a store.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Absolutely okay, absolutely, yes, yeah yourself.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I don't know. He would be like, you know, don't
- 18:30Speaker 1: ask for ship, don't touch ship. Won't be no ship?
- 18:36Speaker 4: Is that?
- 18:36Speaker 1: Like?
- 18:36Speaker 4: Yeah, won't be nothing?
- 18:41Speaker 1: Three literally?
- 18:43Speaker 4: And I know from my mom if you walk away
- 18:45Speaker 4: once I find you, your be So just make sure
- 18:49Speaker 4: you stay the same. You're a handbook because I need Yeah, yeah,
- 18:56Speaker 4: that's that.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Don't call the police on you these days, well.
- 19:00Speaker 4: They oh yeah, nowadays you can't do anything. You can't
- 19:03Speaker 4: do anything. So did you ever roll your eyes or
- 19:08Speaker 4: get annoyed when fans recognized your family? How was that?
- 19:12Speaker 4: How did you deal with fans?
- 19:13Speaker 1: I thought it was pretty cool. I mean initially, especially
- 19:17Speaker 1: yeah my dad. They were fine. They're like, mister Bryan,
- 19:20Speaker 1: you know whatever, and we're like, oh, that's kind of cool,
- 19:22Speaker 1: you know, But it was fine. It was never scary
- 19:25Speaker 1: at all. I thought it was different when my brother
- 19:28Speaker 1: entered the league and I would see people walking around
- 19:30Speaker 1: with his jersey, like with my last name on their back.
- 19:33Speaker 1: And I'm like, hold on.
- 19:35Speaker 4: What age were you when you saw that? I was eighteen?
- 19:38Speaker 1: Okay it was seventeen, yeah, but young but like kind
- 19:42Speaker 1: of old enough. Yeah, weird last name on your back. Okay,
- 19:47Speaker 1: we'll let it go, but you better represent don't be going.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Here, youresent do nothing crazy?
- 19:54Speaker 1: Okay?
- 19:55Speaker 4: Yeah, so what was? What was?
- 19:59Speaker 5: What's something people will be surprised to know about your
- 20:02Speaker 5: dad as a.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Father, that he was present father. I think a lot
- 20:09Speaker 1: of times people think, you know, you're a professional athlete
- 20:11Speaker 1: or you're coaching or doing whatever, and like you don't
- 20:13Speaker 1: have time. He made time, Like I don't remember him
- 20:17Speaker 1: not being there, if that makes sense, Like yeah, even games,
- 20:21Speaker 1: even if he sore after a game, he will lay
- 20:23Speaker 1: on the floor and this is spending quality time. Walk
- 20:26Speaker 1: on my back, you know what I mean, or things
- 20:27Speaker 1: like that, or stretch me out, like we will stretch him.
- 20:30Speaker 1: You know, one person laid the other arm. But yeah,
- 20:34Speaker 1: he always made time. And I always like to wrestle,
- 20:36Speaker 1: like pillow fights, thofts fights, and my mom's like, don't
- 20:40Speaker 1: hurt my baby.
- 20:42Speaker 4: That's why you're a boy, mom, That's exactly why you were.
- 20:46Speaker 4: It's something about the dad's thinking like they can wrestle
- 20:49Speaker 4: everybody like relax. I'm a girl still like plea.
- 20:54Speaker 1: No, but definitely always present. It's always there.
- 20:57Speaker 2: So I'm raising your boys.
- 20:58Speaker 5: What are parts of your dad's journey that you're carrying
- 21:01Speaker 5: with you as you raise your kings.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Oh man, I'm just I mean, just looking back obviously
- 21:07Speaker 1: with the loss of my dad. I always tell my
- 21:09Speaker 1: kids to spend time with pop Up and no, no,
- 21:12Speaker 1: we can't pop up and no nonas Grandma for Italian
- 21:16Speaker 1: and and I'm just glad they they did right always
- 21:21Speaker 1: with him. I mean, my little Gavin would play the piano.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Here go my dad. One finger band Ai Doom Doom
- 21:26Speaker 1: Doom do like one finger.
- 21:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I think it's just being love, unconditional love, and that's
- 21:35Speaker 1: I think the most I guess personality trade or whatever
- 21:41Speaker 1: that I want to instill in my kids, that unconditional
- 21:44Speaker 1: love and being affectionate. A lot of times you meet
- 21:47Speaker 1: these kids that are so, you know, kind of stand out,
- 21:49Speaker 1: but we're huggers. We're like, you know, welcoming and inclusive.
- 21:53Speaker 5: A lot of times with men, sometimes it could be
- 21:55Speaker 5: hard for them to be. I love that that you're
- 21:59Speaker 5: raising because you're raising men. Will have wives one day,
- 22:03Speaker 5: partners one day that they will love, absolutely touch and
- 22:06Speaker 5: have affection with.
- 22:07Speaker 2: That's beautiful really.
- 22:09Speaker 5: So watching his career shape, how you see success and
- 22:14Speaker 5: then after success pressure.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I think just their drive right for something that
- 22:20Speaker 1: they love. If you find your passion, I find it
- 22:24Speaker 1: very easy. You love what you do right, and if
- 22:27Speaker 1: you love what you do, it's just easy to move
- 22:29Speaker 1: through life in general. And I think just watching them
- 22:33Speaker 1: play or even my dad really instilled something in me too,
- 22:38Speaker 1: for sure.
- 22:40Speaker 5: So when you are dealing with pressure, is that something
- 22:43Speaker 5: that you draw back to of how he dealt with pressure?
- 22:46Speaker 2: When you're watching him go through, you know.
- 22:49Speaker 5: Moving, all the moving and the changes that he had
- 22:51Speaker 5: to put the family through.
- 22:52Speaker 1: It's so interesting because I'm the one I really don't
- 22:55Speaker 1: like change all that much. I'm like one of those people. Yeah, yeah,
- 23:00Speaker 1: but you almost have to roll with it. You just
- 23:02Speaker 1: kind of go with it, you breathe through it. And
- 23:04Speaker 1: I think if you have a great support system. So
- 23:06Speaker 1: even looking at my dad, even through all the pressures
- 23:09Speaker 1: of the games, the losses, the winds, the ups and
- 23:11Speaker 1: the downs, he knew that he always had my mom
- 23:13Speaker 1: or family right that had his back. Yeah, so I
- 23:16Speaker 1: think that was really important. And I know that my
- 23:19Speaker 1: family has my back too, so love that.
- 23:22Speaker 5: So what do you teach you about sacrifice.
- 23:25Speaker 1: M giving up stuff? I think making the right decisions too,
- 23:32Speaker 1: not falling into peer pressure and all those things that
- 23:35Speaker 1: people are saying on the outside, because you know who
- 23:37Speaker 1: you are on the inside and what this house is like, ye,
- 23:42Speaker 1: your safe space. Yeah, my dad is definitely someone special,
- 23:47Speaker 1: for sure.
- 23:48Speaker 5: You talked, you talked about him teaching about being present
- 23:52Speaker 5: in the power of presence and family and being around.
- 23:55Speaker 5: But what else did he teach you that had nothing
- 23:58Speaker 5: to do with basketball? Just how he I guess how
- 24:02Speaker 5: he moved. What did it teach you about life?
- 24:05Speaker 1: My dad, if you ever saw him out, he's always smiling,
- 24:10Speaker 1: very a lot of joy, and I think that was,
- 24:16Speaker 1: you know, one of his trades too. It's just always smiling.
- 24:19Speaker 1: He gave the best hugs to those big pats. I
- 24:22Speaker 1: don't know if your dad's like he hugged you and
- 24:23Speaker 1: then like I'm like, I'm a girl, Like let's.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Let's bring it.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Yeah, let's do a little soft you give that was
- 24:32Speaker 1: a lot of you know.
- 24:33Speaker 4: I was gonna say, it makes sense because you give
- 24:35Speaker 4: great hugs and you're always smiling dad. Yeah, so you
- 24:40Speaker 4: you you get that from him because that's you. That's
- 24:44Speaker 4: just how you move and that's how you carry yourself.
- 24:46Speaker 4: And it's beautiful. So it's warm and it's welcoming and
- 24:52Speaker 4: it's just so you get that from mister jellybean.
- 24:56Speaker 5: Yeah, girl, did he have any sayings that he always
- 25:00Speaker 5: to say that you were here in the house?
- 25:03Speaker 1: You knows so crazy. He wasn't a man of many words.
- 25:06Speaker 1: My mom would do all the you know, my dad
- 25:09Speaker 1: would just do a look. It's never really words, but
- 25:11Speaker 1: just a look. Does that make sense? Like you knew
- 25:13Speaker 1: he was always around in present, but it was never like.
- 25:19Speaker 4: You know, so could you get your way with daddy?
- 25:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah, okay, oh yeah, okay, oh yeah.
- 25:24Speaker 4: So so daddy didn't have a tough time telling baby girl.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Now correct correct? She was like.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Okay, literally and you gotta go run into daddy and
- 25:37Speaker 4: be like yep.
- 25:38Speaker 1: But then my mom get on me, don't okay. Yeah,
- 25:42Speaker 1: now my kids do the same thing to me and Mike. Yeah,
- 25:45Speaker 1: way back, he.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Didn't speak much. Did he have any like corny dad
- 25:48Speaker 2: jokes or was he like not on the.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Very chill, I'm trying to think what did he say?
- 25:55Speaker 1: Oh, when we would walk down the street and stuff,
- 25:58Speaker 1: and he's like like chicken. I'm like, yeah, he like
- 26:00Speaker 1: wing Like I'm like grab my arm, like, you know,
- 26:05Speaker 1: that's so weird.
- 26:11Speaker 4: That cute though, because you know, like dad jokes that
- 26:13Speaker 4: are crazy. You're like, oh my god, Dad, don't.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Say that again.
- 26:19Speaker 4: I'm like, Okay, was he when you were dating? Was
- 26:23Speaker 4: he that?
- 26:23Speaker 1: Like it's pretty chick? Okay, Yeah, I mean I do
- 26:28Speaker 1: remember one time. I know, I'm a little nervous telling
- 26:31Speaker 1: the story, but I'll let it ride. So I think
- 26:35Speaker 1: I was already in high school actually even a freshman
- 26:37Speaker 1: coll I don't remember in high school. I was older.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I was driving, but I guess I didn't come home
- 26:43Speaker 1: in time, and my mom sent my dad out looking
- 26:46Speaker 1: for me. Now that's when you don't have cell phones,
- 26:49Speaker 1: you don't have pages. So my dad's like, okay, I'll
- 26:51Speaker 1: go out looking. But where am I going? We have
- 26:54Speaker 1: the whole city of Philadelphia. We'll start with South Street
- 26:57Speaker 1: because that's usually where shaven.
- 27:00Speaker 4: What's up.
- 27:01Speaker 1: It's like a strip that you walked down and people
- 27:04Speaker 1: just hang and you know, on the corner, she said,
- 27:08Speaker 1: because I like the streets.
- 27:09Speaker 4: Okay, no streets how rough for these shop I was
- 27:16Speaker 4: like streets and it was fun.
- 27:19Speaker 1: It's like shops and people hanging out and music, but
- 27:22Speaker 1: long stair shirt. I end up beat my dad home
- 27:25Speaker 1: and I was like, where's that? And I was like,
- 27:26Speaker 1: he's out there looking for you because you didn't come home.
- 27:28Speaker 4: All the time. I was like, not bad, So.
- 27:31Speaker 1: That again home?
- 27:31Speaker 4: What did he do?
- 27:32Speaker 1: He's like, I'm glad you're safe. That was it, and
- 27:34Speaker 1: he went to bed. And he went to bed, he
- 27:36Speaker 1: was fine.
- 27:36Speaker 4: I love that you're so scared to tell that story.
- 27:39Speaker 4: You are terrifying.
- 27:43Speaker 1: I'm scared girl, because do right?
- 27:47Speaker 4: Okay, never heard to do right?
- 27:49Speaker 1: You know, I'm afraid to say when you do wrong,
- 27:52Speaker 1: I'll make you do right. Yeah, okay, do right? Now?
- 27:56Speaker 4: Who did I know already know the answer to this?
- 27:58Speaker 4: I know, mister jelly Bean did not absolutely not that
- 28:01Speaker 4: that was my mama? You right?
- 28:04Speaker 1: That was that was?
- 28:06Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the mama's And because I wouldn't, I don't.
- 28:11Speaker 4: I feel like I spoiled my child too.
- 28:15Speaker 5: I know it's really it's just gonna pay like a
- 28:18Speaker 5: mom boy thing too, because true, that's true?
- 28:22Speaker 1: Was it? Yeah? I know my daughter watches and be
- 28:25Speaker 1: like I knew it. Sorry, we love you, We love you, Autumn.
- 28:31Speaker 4: It's just it's a different dynamic, but it's with dads
- 28:35Speaker 4: and daughters. Did he ever coach you playing?
- 28:39Speaker 1: No?
- 28:39Speaker 4: Okay, kept that separate.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Kept it separate. He would always come to games, never
- 28:44Speaker 1: even really provide feedback. He'll just let us, you know.
- 28:47Speaker 1: But if we came to him with questions, right, he
- 28:50Speaker 1: would definitely give his input. But he was never one
- 28:52Speaker 1: to be like, you need to do this and put
- 28:54Speaker 1: your arms. Do great job today, great rebound, great box out.
- 28:58Speaker 4: Yeah did you feel pressure? I'm like, peers, you're not jellybeans?
- 29:05Speaker 4: Sit down? Okay, okay, ever good, that's actually really good.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Yea.
- 29:12Speaker 4: Let's talk about Kobe.
- 29:13Speaker 2: For a little bit.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Okay, the Kobe.
- 29:15Speaker 2: So what's a.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Memory of him that only a sister would know?
- 29:21Speaker 1: A memory of Cob and I, okay, I do have
- 29:27Speaker 1: a story.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Let's hear it.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Okay. So in Italy, I don't remember what age, but
- 29:34Speaker 1: I remember playing in the backyard and my mom would say,
- 29:38Speaker 1: always rolled down like these shutters, you know, they have glass,
- 29:41Speaker 1: and then they have these like I don't even know
- 29:43Speaker 1: what it is like it kind of protects. We forgot
- 29:45Speaker 1: to do that. We were out there kicking the ball
- 29:47Speaker 1: playing soccer, and I say, Mara Donna, which is a
- 29:51Speaker 1: famous soccer player that passed away a couple of years
- 29:54Speaker 1: ago as well. I kicked the ball and shattered the
- 29:56Speaker 1: glass completely. My mom from inside the house, she is
- 30:01Speaker 1: like copy.
- 30:03Speaker 4: I was like, I did it.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I kicked it.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Oh.
- 30:08Speaker 1: So I was like, I guess you're gonna have to
- 30:10Speaker 1: take the fall. Brother, Like I was like, you're gonna
- 30:12Speaker 1: take the air, brother, take one for the tea.
- 30:13Speaker 4: He was like, I take plead, look speak for you.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Please help me, help.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Me, help me looking at you. But so my mom
- 30:24Speaker 1: came out. He told her. He's like, no, Shay, and
- 30:28Speaker 1: I was like, no, he did. I was shying. I
- 30:29Speaker 1: was trying, girl. Pan Anyway, long story straight. I tried
- 30:32Speaker 1: to run away from home. I didn't girl. I went
- 30:34Speaker 1: to the back I went to the backyard. Literally everything.
- 30:38Speaker 1: I literally went to the backyard. And then it was
- 30:40Speaker 1: dinner time and reality said it and I was.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Like this for me. I went back from the door
- 30:44Speaker 4: and said, girl, coming side that food. I love when
- 30:49Speaker 4: kids are so dramatic like that. They got their backpack
- 30:52Speaker 4: and they're heading out, and it's like, man, I.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Went to the backyard, but you thought she was going
- 30:57Speaker 1: so I thought I was going somewhere. I ain't going nowhere.
- 31:00Speaker 4: So Kobe took. So Kobe didn't take.
- 31:02Speaker 1: He didn't take it, but he was with me during that, uh,
- 31:05Speaker 1: that struggle when I was about the bounce. Yeah, in
- 31:07Speaker 1: my mind, does she does? She We didn't get in trouble. Now,
- 31:11Speaker 1: they just had it fixed. She's like, please, next time,
- 31:14Speaker 1: just roll it down to see it. Please. Yeah, she's like.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Mom's like, I don't ask for much.
- 31:19Speaker 4: You know.
- 31:21Speaker 1: That's right, You're right right, We're gonna be more mindful
- 31:25Speaker 1: next Right now, as a mom, I get it, you did. Now.
- 31:29Speaker 4: So how did you handle his rise to global fame
- 31:33Speaker 4: from inside the family and were you protective of him?
- 31:38Speaker 1: Definitely? I think just that whole jump from high school
- 31:41Speaker 1: to the NBA, I'm like, wait a minute, the grown
- 31:43Speaker 1: men you were?
- 31:44Speaker 2: How old?
- 31:45Speaker 1: So Covid and I are only thirteen months apart. Yeah,
- 31:48Speaker 1: so he's younger than me, and then I'm the middle,
- 31:51Speaker 1: and then my sister and I are sixteen months apart.
- 31:53Speaker 1: So literally we were like one, two and three. Yeah,
- 31:57Speaker 1: But I think for him just being overprotective was really
- 32:03Speaker 1: the dating the women for him and for me just
- 32:06Speaker 1: being an overprotective sister, you know, because you're going into
- 32:10Speaker 1: this profession that's grown men clearly and you're seventeen. Yeah,
- 32:16Speaker 1: so I think it was just that protectiveness. But him
- 32:18Speaker 1: and I were like this, like thickest thieves, always together.
- 32:22Speaker 1: And I'm gonna tell you right now. Even after games,
- 32:23Speaker 1: he would come back to the house because we all
- 32:25Speaker 1: lived together at the time, my mom, my dad, myself
- 32:27Speaker 1: and him, and we would just watch film like playbacks
- 32:30Speaker 1: of games and stuff. My mom would have, you know,
- 32:32Speaker 1: dinner ready, but he loved breakfast for dinner a lot
- 32:35Speaker 1: of times, so which was kind of interesting. Okay, but yeah, to.
- 32:39Speaker 5: Help your upbringing in the game, did it help even
- 32:43Speaker 5: to bridge that his transition from high school into so
- 32:48Speaker 5: you already kind of knew the ropes, you know?
- 32:50Speaker 1: Yeah, with your dad, I think so. But it's on
- 32:52Speaker 1: a whole other level, right, I think, just European basketball,
- 32:57Speaker 1: and like I said, I was a kid, I mean
- 32:58Speaker 1: eighteen technically an adult, but I think it's just different,
- 33:03Speaker 1: especially just seeing how he rose to you know, legend
- 33:09Speaker 1: pretty fast. It happened very fast. I mean a couple
- 33:12Speaker 1: of years. Yes, he was riding the bench, but he did,
- 33:14Speaker 1: you know, put in the work right to get to
- 33:16Speaker 1: where he needed to be. So I have sacrifices for sure.
- 33:19Speaker 4: What's one thing you think people misunderstand about Kobe?
- 33:25Speaker 1: Oh that he's just hard, you know, that whole mentality
- 33:28Speaker 1: the mamba.
- 33:29Speaker 4: But yeah, he is funny too. He is funny. Is fine,
- 33:33Speaker 4: he's real.
- 33:34Speaker 1: I'm definitely funny. He's funny, but on the moon, he's Okay.
- 33:42Speaker 4: Let me phrase that.
- 33:43Speaker 1: He's a jokester, right, so he likes playing pranks.
- 33:46Speaker 4: That was gonna be my next question.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I remember, I have another questions.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Okay, okay. So one night going out with my girlfriends,
- 33:53Speaker 1: We're getting dressed ready to go, and all of a sudden,
- 33:56Speaker 1: he jumps out of a dark kind of corner with
- 33:59Speaker 1: the whole scream, ask on the whole garb. We went running.
- 34:02Speaker 1: My girlfriend broke her heel, her shoe, and she was
- 34:05Speaker 1: visiting from the East Coast. I'm like, okay, now we
- 34:07Speaker 1: have to go back in the house and find shoes.
- 34:09Speaker 1: He thought that was so funny. He ruined my whole night,
- 34:11Speaker 1: the whole night. But we still went out and turned up.
- 34:13Speaker 1: But period.
- 34:16Speaker 2: In the street, you don't have a good time, nothing's
- 34:25Speaker 2: going to stop you.
- 34:26Speaker 1: With the six sparkles, that's when my knees were really good. Now, kitten, hells, Kitten,
- 34:37Speaker 1: I love that for us.
- 34:38Speaker 4: So the work ethic even like during high school, Yeah, yeah,
- 34:42Speaker 4: was it?
- 34:42Speaker 2: Did it start there?
- 34:43Speaker 5: Like do you remember seeing that kind of work ethics
- 34:45Speaker 5: when you hear it's like all about how you know
- 34:48Speaker 5: he would be in the gym before anybody else.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Did it start there?
- 34:51Speaker 1: It did high school as well a lot of times
- 34:53Speaker 1: he would leave the house before we did, meaning he
- 34:56Speaker 1: would get shot up, probably like six amka something school
- 35:00Speaker 1: at eight, still getting shot up, having the coach unlock
- 35:04Speaker 1: the gym so he can get some stuff in before
- 35:07Speaker 1: even starting schools. So that started early. I think he
- 35:10Speaker 1: just always knew that he wanted to be in the
- 35:13Speaker 1: NBA and be the best, even when he was younger.
- 35:16Speaker 4: So, but did you see was there ever a part
- 35:18Speaker 4: when you were watching him just establish his footing in
- 35:22Speaker 4: basketball where you were like, Kobe can really be somebody?
- 35:25Speaker 4: Did you ever imagine that he would become who he became?
- 35:29Speaker 1: You know, it's so crazy to me. He's still my
- 35:31Speaker 1: little brother. It's hard to be yeah, like oh this.
- 35:35Speaker 4: And Mama, it's just like I broke the glass, you know,
- 35:44Speaker 4: and he didn't help me right right, exactly like the
- 35:48Speaker 4: annoying for sure side like you know in the.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Like you know, stuff like that, like little annoying brother
- 35:58Speaker 1: things for sure.
- 36:00Speaker 4: Yeah, any inside jokes, handshakes, a.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Really handshakes. I don't know, we should just look at
- 36:08Speaker 1: each other just laugh. But it was anything like inside
- 36:11Speaker 1: like yeah like that, but nothing crazy.
- 36:14Speaker 4: Is there anything about Kobe, what he did, who he is,
- 36:19Speaker 4: who he was that lives within you?
- 36:24Speaker 1: I think his uh passion, determination, just his grind and
- 36:30Speaker 1: the sacrifices because you every day you have decisions right
- 36:34Speaker 1: what to do, what not to do, And I think
- 36:37Speaker 1: if it's not to better yourself right.
- 36:40Speaker 5: Then.
- 36:42Speaker 4: You need to pick the So where did we get mamba?
- 36:47Speaker 1: Who knows what goes on? That boy's girl snake venom?
- 36:54Speaker 4: You know all that, y'all have snakes growing up and
- 36:56Speaker 4: absolutely not.
- 36:58Speaker 1: So where did we get a snake? We had hamsterds, birds, dogs,
- 37:03Speaker 1: all the above, girl birds, no lizards.
- 37:06Speaker 4: So he just liked just one snake embodied than just
- 37:10Speaker 4: the symbolism around the snake.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, and I even got Okay, we'll talk about
- 37:16Speaker 1: that later with the whole but yeah, have snakes to represent.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Okay, okay, what is a sibling argument you still laugh
- 37:23Speaker 4: about today that y'all.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Had, you know, so crazy.
- 37:28Speaker 4: We never really argued and we never got in a fight.
- 37:32Speaker 1: We never had a fight. I don't know siblings. I mean,
- 37:35Speaker 1: I know I've heard of siblings actually like fist not
- 37:39Speaker 1: in this house, absolutely not.
- 37:41Speaker 5: We have never you guys, absolutely my mother would. I
- 37:45Speaker 5: wouldn't be here, must be in a little book, you know,
- 37:49Speaker 5: like physical, but we've had argument. She's talking about physical Okay, yeah, no, no.
- 37:55Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, But arguments too.
- 37:57Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe i'd argue.
- 38:00Speaker 2: I definitely argue with my brother.
- 38:01Speaker 4: So that's what I'm saying, Like, like, I mean, just
- 38:06Speaker 4: I guess.
- 38:07Speaker 2: I mean my brother is like he's real quiet.
- 38:09Speaker 5: I was like wow, so like he would just like
- 38:12Speaker 5: get mad at me because I'm just being like you
- 38:15Speaker 5: know what I'm saying.
- 38:15Speaker 2: It would just be like that kind of thing.
- 38:17Speaker 5: So nothing like nothing major, major, No, It's just it's
- 38:21Speaker 5: just personality differences living.
- 38:23Speaker 4: I think that's what it is.
- 38:24Speaker 5: And then also like when we were growing up, I had.
- 38:26Speaker 5: Our house was small, so like just the space, you know,
- 38:28Speaker 5: I mean, it's that kind of stuff. But nothing nothing crazy.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't think of an argument that's great, just crazy.
- 38:37Speaker 4: I'm like, think of I got about twenty at the
- 38:39Speaker 4: top of my.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Head phone, my phone, a friend phone, and sister.
- 38:44Speaker 4: Do you remember argument? Did we ever have an argument?
- 38:47Speaker 4: How was he when you dated? Was he that like brother?
- 38:50Speaker 1: And this is what I There are two sides to that.
- 38:53Speaker 1: So in high school, if I would go on a
- 38:56Speaker 1: date with someone and they'll be like, your brother's not
- 38:57Speaker 1: that good, I'd like lose my number. Like I'm like,
- 39:00Speaker 1: we're not doing that. Yeah, that's why my husband made
- 39:03Speaker 1: it because I know him since high school and he
- 39:05Speaker 1: was like, your brother's amazing, thank you.
- 39:07Speaker 4: That's why my husband made it. He's been here since
- 39:10Speaker 4: day one and he understood, he understood.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Correct anyone that does that. It was kind of like,
- 39:19Speaker 1: I'm good.
- 39:20Speaker 5: But I would think if you would let somebody talk
- 39:23Speaker 5: about your brother, that's I mean, that's absolutely but I
- 39:27Speaker 5: want to know so he So back when Kobe started,
- 39:30Speaker 5: I'm assuming I can't remember the year, but social media
- 39:33Speaker 5: wasn't as prevalent. But you're still able to watch him.
- 39:37Speaker 5: As social media is becoming more and more dominant. Were
- 39:40Speaker 5: you the sister who was writing back, tweeting back?
- 39:44Speaker 1: No, I mean I don't have time. I try to
- 39:46Speaker 1: protect my peace at all times, and that is more
- 39:48Speaker 1: valuable than any other me coming back with trolls and
- 39:51Speaker 1: things like that, because once you open that box.
- 39:53Speaker 4: Just it floods, floods. Yeah, so no, thank you, Okay,
- 39:56Speaker 4: good for you. How were you at games?
- 39:59Speaker 1: Crazy? Okay?
- 40:00Speaker 4: Crazy? How like crazy crazy?
- 40:03Speaker 1: Not like get kicked out crazy, just like cheering and like,
- 40:07Speaker 1: you know, talking, you know smack, especially in high school,
- 40:11Speaker 1: you know, have our little group hang it out.
- 40:14Speaker 2: So when you came back to watch the film, like,
- 40:16Speaker 2: what was that?
- 40:16Speaker 3: Like?
- 40:17Speaker 5: Come back and what everybody's in there? Jammi's watching and
- 40:20Speaker 5: get back on defense.
- 40:22Speaker 1: My brother's constantly like going back rewind play Okay, did
- 40:25Speaker 1: you see that? Did you see that? When he did that,
- 40:27Speaker 1: I was like, I don't see nothing. I see sure,
- 40:30Speaker 1: get weeds fantastic, but yeah, but he would definitely analyze it.
- 40:37Speaker 1: But I would just keep on company and hang out
- 40:40Speaker 1: or we'll watch movies or just chill. Really were you nervous?
- 40:44Speaker 4: What was the most I guess I mean, there's so
- 40:46Speaker 4: many to choose from Kobe iconic moments at his games.
- 40:49Speaker 4: Shots like.
- 40:53Speaker 1: For me, I remember, like it was yesterday when uh
- 40:57Speaker 1: it was the three air balls against you tall. It
- 41:01Speaker 1: was in Utah, I believe, and I was watching that.
- 41:03Speaker 1: My heart just sank the first air ball, my second airball, third.
- 41:08Speaker 1: I was on the floor. My mom was like getting like, yeah,
- 41:13Speaker 1: I'm so sad, you know, but that's what made him
- 41:17Speaker 1: even better. He realized he needed to lift more weight
- 41:21Speaker 1: to have more you know, at the end of the game,
- 41:22Speaker 1: your legs can't be tired, you know, things like that.
- 41:25Speaker 4: So it helps shape you know, who he is. This
- 41:29Speaker 4: legacy that continues and will always continue to keep. Okay,
- 41:34Speaker 4: let's play a game.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Talk about you, okay, Okay, I got this or that?
- 41:40Speaker 4: Okay, Oh now, y'all's it's me, okay, both of y'all. Yeah, okay,
- 41:46Speaker 4: Well ask Sha first and then somewhere you can go
- 41:48Speaker 4: movie night or game night.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Movie night.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Definitely definitely moving night into games are game player.
- 41:57Speaker 4: I'm not thinking like what game will we play? Probably
- 41:59Speaker 4: like Picturenaire or something.
- 42:02Speaker 1: What is picture Oh my god.
- 42:03Speaker 4: You're not old, You're not it's me.
- 42:06Speaker 1: It's me. It's not you, it's not you get like
- 42:09Speaker 1: a whole clipboard, and then the word is like telephone,
- 42:11Speaker 1: and then you have to like maybe it's called something else.
- 42:15Speaker 2: You probably have played it just to know that's the
- 42:16Speaker 2: name of it, probably yeah.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Yeah, or like heads up that yeah, thing like things
- 42:21Speaker 1: like that. The movie is good.
- 42:23Speaker 2: But I'm gonna pick a.
- 42:24Speaker 4: B what's your favorite movie?
- 42:30Speaker 2: I can't do it.
- 42:30Speaker 4: It's too hard. I think so many. Okay, well, okay,
- 42:35Speaker 4: you're let's give it within like the last ten years,
- 42:40Speaker 4: what's been your favorite movie?
- 42:41Speaker 1: Or five?
- 42:41Speaker 4: Okay, five years a year.
- 42:43Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of what a lot of movie?
- 42:45Speaker 1: What's on like TV that if it's on you will
- 42:48Speaker 1: just watch it? Does that make sense?
- 42:49Speaker 2: Over and over? That's for me?
- 42:51Speaker 4: Bad Boys, I could always watch Bad Boys. First one,
- 42:54Speaker 4: first one, yeah, first one. Yeah, I love Bad Boys.
- 42:57Speaker 1: I think I'm going with Friday.
- 42:59Speaker 4: Okay, that's that's a good one. That's I'm watching it.
- 43:04Speaker 1: I mean, if you're going to commercial, may turn and
- 43:05Speaker 1: then turn back going back for Classic.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Forrest.
- 43:11Speaker 1: I'm watching Interesting.
- 43:13Speaker 5: I'm so random and I love I mean the movies
- 43:18Speaker 5: that I love, which is like Color Purple, which is
- 43:20Speaker 5: my first movie.
- 43:21Speaker 4: It's like my movie, but like that's me, like the
- 43:25Speaker 4: long Malcolm X.
- 43:28Speaker 1: She's going real deep go Friday.
- 43:30Speaker 4: That's what I'm like. American Banks Friday. I'm watching okay,
- 43:34Speaker 4: watching watching Friday too.
- 43:35Speaker 2: I'm definitely watching Friday.
- 43:37Speaker 4: Inside jokes or.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Storytelling inside jokes.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Yeah, storytelling.
- 43:45Speaker 1: I can do that.
- 43:48Speaker 4: And I can see inside jokes your jokes jokes literally,
- 43:54Speaker 4: v h S or DVD. Do you know what that is?
- 43:57Speaker 1: I do?
- 43:58Speaker 4: I do because I used I Look, I would be able.
- 44:00Speaker 4: I knew how to rewind and like you get in
- 44:03Speaker 4: the thing and you like, right, you can. That's a cassette.
- 44:07Speaker 4: You're talking about a cassette.
- 44:10Speaker 2: I've done it before, because.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Okay, d HS or DVDs. Definitely dvs.
- 44:19Speaker 4: I'm really mad.
- 44:19Speaker 2: DVD im too. I recently got rid of my collection
- 44:22Speaker 2: because I mean, my collection was vast. I had so many,
- 44:26Speaker 2: but I was like, what are we going to do
- 44:27Speaker 2: with it?
- 44:27Speaker 4: Nothing?
- 44:27Speaker 1: It's going to come back, though, is it? I don't know?
- 44:30Speaker 1: And may you know everything but everything going on in
- 44:33Speaker 1: this world?
- 44:33Speaker 4: That maybe.
- 44:38Speaker 1: All right?
- 44:39Speaker 4: And all the classics are on there, that's true. Cook
- 44:43Speaker 4: at home or eat out?
- 44:45Speaker 1: Okay, this is kind of weird. I don't cook, Why
- 44:48Speaker 1: is it weird?
- 44:49Speaker 4: Well, I guess the next question is you don't cook.
- 44:52Speaker 1: But can you cook? I can? They're okay, well that period,
- 44:55Speaker 1: So I'm going with eating out there.
- 44:57Speaker 4: Yeah, but why is it weird?
- 44:58Speaker 2: Though?
- 44:58Speaker 4: Well, that's that weird.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Because as it's so like my husband and I, our
- 45:02Speaker 1: roles are completely reversed, like the traditional the traditional, so
- 45:06Speaker 1: he does all the cooking and things.
- 45:08Speaker 4: Like that, and kid, yeah, I know the right one
- 45:14Speaker 4: reverse okay, but if you have if if all the
- 45:17Speaker 4: stores shut down, Look, we need to know how to survive.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Okay, exactly. That's what people come here. I know they're
- 45:22Speaker 1: gonna eat. They're fine. That's all you good to do?
- 45:27Speaker 4: Chef or chauffeur. I guess I kind of know the answer.
- 45:32Speaker 4: I know yours.
- 45:32Speaker 2: I'm definitely doing the chauffeur.
- 45:34Speaker 4: Yeah, well I.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Already have a chef's husband, the husband first, and so
- 45:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna go to show. Okay, already, Look, I get
- 45:42Speaker 1: the chef for free. I ain't free, though, just get it.
- 45:50Speaker 4: It's gonna left.
- 45:50Speaker 1: It's real left.
- 45:53Speaker 4: It's not free.
- 45:54Speaker 1: What I mean?
- 45:56Speaker 4: Be hot here girl, girl and summer and winter.
- 46:04Speaker 1: I'm a summer baby too, definitely.
- 46:06Speaker 4: You can have a white Christmas.
- 46:09Speaker 1: No, I ain't doing that. I want to see it
- 46:11Speaker 1: on TV. I don't want to be in it.
- 46:13Speaker 4: I don't want to. But you'all were raised in the
- 46:16Speaker 4: in the cold. I'm Houston girls, you know I didn't
- 46:19Speaker 4: experience it. Thanksgiving our Christmas.
- 46:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with Thanksgiving favorite dish. Yeahs, No marshmallows.
- 46:36Speaker 1: We're not a marshmallow and I'm not a marshmallow person.
- 46:39Speaker 1: So yeahs. Turkey, gravy, corn bread, stuffings, green beans. Like
- 46:46Speaker 1: I got a whole plate, Like where do you put
- 46:49Speaker 1: like where's your past?
- 46:50Speaker 2: Do you put your next to your yams?
- 46:53Speaker 1: Or like what?
- 46:54Speaker 4: So what I do is.
- 46:58Speaker 1: Get my turkey, yeah, slice, you get the gravy. I
- 47:02Speaker 1: put the mac and cheese next to it because sometimes
- 47:05Speaker 1: I like the gravy to touch the mac and cheese.
- 47:08Speaker 1: And then I do the green beans and then put
- 47:11Speaker 1: the yams on the other side because I don't want
- 47:13Speaker 1: the gravy touch in the yams.
- 47:15Speaker 2: That makes sense to the yams.
- 47:19Speaker 4: So yeah. So y'all seem like the people who y'all
- 47:23Speaker 4: have to eat one food at a time before you
- 47:25Speaker 4: eat the next, or can y'all see, I can chapotle it.
- 47:28Speaker 4: It can all be in one ball, baby.
- 47:31Speaker 2: It's more so like it has to go together.
- 47:33Speaker 5: Like, for instance, if the cranberry sauce touches the dressing,
- 47:36Speaker 5: that's okay, But the.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Cranberry sauce does not need to touch. The green beans
- 47:47Speaker 2: cannot touch.
- 47:47Speaker 5: Migraines have to be in a separate bowl because I
- 47:50Speaker 5: don't want the pot liquor like on the other stuff,
- 47:53Speaker 5: and I want my plate wet.
- 47:54Speaker 2: But I need to be able to dunk the corporated
- 47:57Speaker 2: mm hmm.
- 47:58Speaker 1: You me, what's coming on? What's the next holiday?
- 48:00Speaker 4: I'm getting hum like that. I'm gonna be looking at
- 48:05Speaker 4: Thanksgiving dinners completely different. It's a curation, you know what
- 48:12Speaker 4: I'm saying? Oh God, I'm gonna have anxiety. Texting or FaceTime, FaceTime,
- 48:19Speaker 4: definitely FaceTime. Okay, Well, what would y'all do if, like
- 48:21Speaker 4: a random person who you typically don't FaceTime FaceTime? You like,
- 48:26Speaker 4: what y'all answer? Were you?
- 48:27Speaker 1: Like?
- 48:27Speaker 4: All right, this is not our relationship. Don't FaceTime me again?
- 48:30Speaker 1: Text me? I like facetiming people. I don't know if
- 48:34Speaker 1: I want a random.
- 48:35Speaker 4: Person face wait what anybody?
- 48:38Speaker 2: Or just like random?
- 48:40Speaker 4: I mean she said random.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Let me tell you one time someone tried to FaceTime me.
- 48:43Speaker 1: I didn't recognize the phone number. That makes I did
- 48:46Speaker 1: not pick it up.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Same.
- 48:47Speaker 4: Yeah, that's weird.
- 48:48Speaker 2: No, no, no, I thought you.
- 48:49Speaker 4: I thought you were saying, like I like to FaceTime you,
- 48:52Speaker 4: but I don't want to.
- 48:55Speaker 1: You're like, who are they talking to?
- 48:59Speaker 3: Like?
- 48:59Speaker 1: God it people? You know you were like like, you know,
- 49:03Speaker 1: like I want to be like I'm ready, Like I'm ready,
- 49:08Speaker 1: and then sometimes I let people see me when I'm
- 49:09Speaker 1: not ready.
- 49:10Speaker 4: It depends on who calls.
- 49:14Speaker 1: You know, you're good if my answer and I and
- 49:15Speaker 1: got it on.
- 49:17Speaker 4: So like like so for a Tarah and I, for example,
- 49:20Speaker 4: we face time like we don't even really text. We
- 49:22Speaker 4: bypass that. Like if I'm like getting out the shower
- 49:25Speaker 4: and I need to talk to her, I'm not like
- 49:27Speaker 4: We're just gonna face time regular call her no more
- 49:30Speaker 4: at this point.
- 49:30Speaker 1: It's just I know, you know, it is that a
- 49:34Speaker 1: connection sometimes and things could get lost in translations. A
- 49:37Speaker 1: lot of times you're like, oh, I really didn't mean that.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Let me just call you or face time.
- 49:42Speaker 4: So and also we have the ability to do it. Yeah,
- 49:44Speaker 4: so I'm not I know, okay, sweet tooth or salty snack?
- 49:50Speaker 1: Oh you already know.
- 49:51Speaker 4: I already know. Definitely sweet, definitely, what's your saying a choice?
- 49:55Speaker 1: What's your sweet? And then you're too Mariah things.
- 50:05Speaker 4: But my beacon snacks really be good. My mom may
- 50:08Speaker 4: bites my little chick pee, look at you do. But anyway,
- 50:15Speaker 4: you do have.
- 50:16Speaker 2: A favorite sweet treat. Car there's a there's a certain
- 50:20Speaker 2: caramel corn that you like.
- 50:22Speaker 4: Oh, my aunt Carolyn's popcorn. So her mother, I don't
- 50:25Speaker 4: know if you know our relationship right.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Her mother and my mother and sisters.
- 50:29Speaker 4: So her mother has the best caramel popcorn, hands down.
- 50:33Speaker 4: Like I have fought people like she's rude.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Let's just be honest.
- 50:37Speaker 1: I have people.
- 50:39Speaker 4: I'm not sharing my poor Absolutely. She was like like
- 50:42Speaker 4: we're taking this to the hospital. They can get their own. Yeah,
- 50:45Speaker 4: Like yeah, she doesn't very caring when it comes, very rude.
- 50:49Speaker 4: God's working on me with work work in progress because
- 50:52Speaker 4: I really love it. It's so like we need to
- 50:54Speaker 4: we'll send you some. They are addicting. So now I
- 50:59Speaker 4: can't go and get caramel popcorn from any other place.
- 51:02Speaker 4: There is like a distinct difference between the two. And
- 51:06Speaker 4: so I'm like She's ruined it for all the other brands.
- 51:09Speaker 4: They're so good. We got you, we got you that,
- 51:11Speaker 4: we got got you.
- 51:12Speaker 3: Ok.
- 51:12Speaker 2: I'm cookie girl, what about you?
- 51:14Speaker 1: Jelly? My nickname was chocolate Chip though when I was
- 51:17Speaker 1: a kid. Yeah, my grandfather used to call me chocolate
- 51:19Speaker 1: chip all the time. I don't know because chocolate maybe, yeah,
- 51:24Speaker 1: chocolate chip. But my favorite is definitely jelly, like mister
- 51:27Speaker 1: jelly jelly beans.
- 51:29Speaker 4: Road trip or flight?
- 51:32Speaker 1: You know. I used to be terrified of flying, terrified,
- 51:36Speaker 1: like I missed out on so many trips because of
- 51:38Speaker 1: my fear. Okay, so I would say road trip. But
- 51:41Speaker 1: as I get older, you put it in God's hands.
- 51:43Speaker 1: There's a lot that has changed. So at this point
- 51:45Speaker 1: I rather get on the fight.
- 51:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:47Speaker 2: So I'm like you.
- 51:49Speaker 5: I'm not a I've never been afraid to fly, but
- 51:50Speaker 5: I think recently the anxiety has gotten me.
- 51:53Speaker 4: But I still prefer to fly because driving long.
- 51:56Speaker 2: Distances makes me more nervous than Okay, that makes sense. Yeah,
- 51:59Speaker 2: but if I get it like you do, I do
- 52:01Speaker 2: have to say my prayer yeah and just go absolutely yeah.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:06Speaker 4: I've talked about this on an episode, but I like
- 52:08Speaker 4: the train. If you didn't know that about me. I
- 52:10Speaker 4: love trains. I love train rides like absolutely Amtrak. But
- 52:15Speaker 4: telling about Amtrak, yeah gets I have gone from New
- 52:18Speaker 4: Orleans to California on the train with my baby by myself.
- 52:23Speaker 2: Oh yeah, but it's it's.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Really nice.
- 52:27Speaker 4: You get a room, you get three meals a day,
- 52:29Speaker 4: you have you can dine with other people.
- 52:32Speaker 1: I would want to get out.
- 52:34Speaker 4: I don't stop. So that's why it takes so long,
- 52:37Speaker 4: because we don't really have an express train that goes
- 52:40Speaker 4: from east to west. We have a couple in like
- 52:43Speaker 4: New York to like New York Philly, but they don't
- 52:45Speaker 4: have that going out like for a longer distance. You
- 52:48Speaker 4: stop a lot. I want to do it, I say, babe,
- 52:52Speaker 4: I want to go with you one time. Everyone should
- 52:53Speaker 4: do it at least once.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I really think.
- 52:56Speaker 4: I really think it's just well, maybe not New Orleans
- 53:00Speaker 4: to l A like a three day trip, but even
- 53:03Speaker 4: like Sacramento to l A, Okay, l A to Seattle.
- 53:08Speaker 4: Have you done LA to San Diego?
- 53:11Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 53:11Speaker 4: And that rides you along. Thing.
- 53:12Speaker 1: I've been on the train maybe three times in my life.
- 53:15Speaker 1: I've never been on the subway.
- 53:16Speaker 4: Now. I did that one time and it never again.
- 53:22Speaker 1: My mom because we were young. I came back, I
- 53:24Speaker 1: was in high school, so we weren't really.
- 53:29Speaker 4: Sneakers or heels.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Sneakers. Sneakers now at this age.
- 53:33Speaker 4: Now, that's what I was going to say right now,
- 53:35Speaker 4: definitely sneakers, glamor.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Natural natural on any given day. Yeah, but obviously for
- 53:43Speaker 1: things like that. But your day to day is day
- 53:46Speaker 1: to day is natural, Okay, hair up or hair down,
- 53:51Speaker 1: hair down, always part in the middle, never side, period.
- 53:54Speaker 4: Period, period.
- 53:55Speaker 2: I love it as you can look.
- 53:57Speaker 5: Actually, mine is permanent because my mom put my hair.
- 54:00Speaker 5: My mother put my hair in picktails like every day, so.
- 54:03Speaker 4: Now she's like a permanent part stuff. I can't. It
- 54:07Speaker 4: just kind of goes back, So I don't know, not
- 54:09Speaker 4: blaming it on your mama. It's take the photo or
- 54:12Speaker 4: be in the photo.
- 54:14Speaker 1: I could do. I could do either. Or when it's
- 54:16Speaker 1: with my kids, I love taking photos of them. But
- 54:19Speaker 1: I remember my mom's not on a lot of our
- 54:21Speaker 1: photos because she was always the one taking them. So
- 54:24Speaker 1: I'm more conscious to be in the photos so I
- 54:26Speaker 1: could always remember and have those memories.
- 54:28Speaker 4: Could be like, oh, where's Mom, Yeah that was there, Yeah,
- 54:31Speaker 4: but I was taking it. Yeah you too.
- 54:34Speaker 2: I I'm getting better at my picture taking. Yeah, photo taking, so.
- 54:40Speaker 5: I will say that, but I love being I love
- 54:43Speaker 5: being in the picture because I would actress.
- 54:46Speaker 4: I didn't know.
- 54:48Speaker 3: Leo.
- 54:49Speaker 4: I knew it, did you? I'm a Leo too, I'm
- 54:52Speaker 4: a Taurus. Taurus.
- 54:53Speaker 1: Yeah, so your birthdays.
- 54:55Speaker 4: May coming up? Yeah, August sixth oh, no way.
- 54:58Speaker 1: July thirtieth.
- 54:59Speaker 4: Oh, y'all are just right on. That's why. Yeah, I
- 55:05Speaker 4: ask the question of fire.
- 55:06Speaker 2: Definitely the fire.
- 55:07Speaker 1: That's why I'm hot and sweat and bullets over here.
- 55:09Speaker 4: Just fire we can break. Okay, we got just a
- 55:14Speaker 4: few more. Overthink or trust your gut.
- 55:17Speaker 1: I'm overthinking too, Like every scenario, I just keep going
- 55:22Speaker 1: and playing and playing.
- 55:23Speaker 4: Yeah, me too.
- 55:24Speaker 1: I gotta do better, though, I'm working on it.
- 55:26Speaker 4: Do you have really bad anxiety? I did it before, Okay,
- 55:30Speaker 4: As I get older, I feel.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Like it's coming on. I'm like, what is this?
- 55:34Speaker 4: I think it could be because we have access to
- 55:37Speaker 4: too much information. I think that's part of it. Yeah,
- 55:40Speaker 4: So we're consuming so much, so we're thinking about so
- 55:43Speaker 4: many different things. Yeah, and so our brain's not resting.
- 55:46Speaker 4: It's like we have at least for myself, I have
- 55:48Speaker 4: twenty tabs open. It's because I'm thinking about this that
- 55:51Speaker 4: I saw this on Instagram. I gotta do this for work.
- 55:54Speaker 4: This is my kid, This is you know, it's just
- 55:57Speaker 4: it's too much, you know, So it's our hormones. Don't
- 56:00Speaker 4: help that part.
- 56:02Speaker 2: The hormone changes it, just it we never mind.
- 56:11Speaker 1: I'm right there.
- 56:17Speaker 4: My husband's watching this like we love all our spouses.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Absolutely, I'm going to be able to do this without Let's.
- 56:24Speaker 4: And with one more. Michelle Obama this is like my
- 56:28Speaker 4: I love this this one. Do we are we going
- 56:31Speaker 4: low or high? When they go low? Are we going high?
- 56:35Speaker 4: Are we going to keep it low?
- 56:36Speaker 1: Can we be somewhere in the middle?
- 56:38Speaker 4: We can't. We can't. I guess it depends on the situation.
- 56:42Speaker 4: Because it is about my kids.
- 56:44Speaker 1: I'm dragging you all the way down just like hell
- 56:46Speaker 1: we go yeah.
- 56:48Speaker 4: Hell yeah, We're gonna take it like no hesitations, But
- 56:54Speaker 4: anybody else will, just like anyone that's walking down the street,
- 56:58Speaker 4: You're like.
- 56:58Speaker 1: Yeah, same with the comments going on, I G and stuff.
- 57:01Speaker 1: You just let it, just let it ride.
- 57:03Speaker 4: Share You're a queen, try because I could never.
- 57:07Speaker 2: That's how we got here, That's.
- 57:08Speaker 4: How we got here. But I told you, yeah, because
- 57:12Speaker 4: I didn't handle it well and it's part of your
- 57:16Speaker 4: Yeah whatever, No, I didn't handle it well. Okay, so
- 57:22Speaker 4: you needed a space to be space.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Okay, I needed a space.
- 57:26Speaker 4: But that's another conversation. But I'm happy to know that
- 57:30Speaker 4: you weren't like me and you actually took just whatever
- 57:33Speaker 4: came with your name with grace and you you went
- 57:38Speaker 4: the high road.
- 57:39Speaker 1: Good for you, sis, Thank you. I'm trying. I'm trying
- 57:42Speaker 1: a lot of narratives out there, but I'm trying to Yes.
- 57:45Speaker 4: No, you've done well, You've really done well. I'm so proud.
- 57:49Speaker 4: I'm so serious because there's times where I'm like I
- 57:52Speaker 4: could never.
- 57:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna talk it up to the tourist.
- 57:54Speaker 4: Yeah, like because the girl, because there's times like if
- 57:57Speaker 4: you would have told this person said what you Oh,
- 58:00Speaker 4: we got a dragon that we got. Look we got
- 58:03Speaker 4: to talk about like we got we just but not
- 58:07Speaker 4: so just trying.
- 58:09Speaker 2: And I can tell that your mom is a big
- 58:11Speaker 2: part of you. You can hear it.
- 58:14Speaker 5: Yeah, and meeting you, listening to you today, like your
- 58:17Speaker 5: mother is an anchor and has reared you in the
- 58:20Speaker 5: right so you know when to pull back and yeah.
- 58:24Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you know what to do. Well, that was fun.
- 58:29Speaker 1: That was fun.
- 58:30Speaker 4: I like it. Yeah, perfect. So then now let's go Sha.
- 58:36Speaker 4: All right, let's talk about.
- 58:38Speaker 2: You and what you're doing.
- 58:40Speaker 5: So you said you were in the hospitality industry, So
- 58:43Speaker 5: how did you get into that.
- 58:45Speaker 2: It's very specific.
- 58:47Speaker 1: It's always about a boy. This is before I was married,
- 58:49Speaker 1: so I could tell the story to tell. So going
- 58:54Speaker 1: to Vegas on vacation, just kind of hanging out. We
- 58:57Speaker 1: were at the say, at the Bellagio, and this guy
- 59:00Speaker 1: opened the door for me and I was like, oh,
- 59:02Speaker 1: thank you so much. And he's like, oh, you're so anyway,
- 59:05Speaker 1: exchange phone numbers and I just kept his number. And
- 59:08Speaker 1: then eventually when it moved to Vegas, I just reached
- 59:11Speaker 1: out because I didn't know what I wanted to do,
- 59:13Speaker 1: like for work. I'm like, hey, I just moved here,
- 59:17Speaker 1: you know, you give me your number. I just wanted
- 59:19Speaker 1: to see if there's anything that I can do as
- 59:21Speaker 1: far as work. He's like, well, what do you like
- 59:23Speaker 1: to do? I'm like, well, I'm very friendly, I'm outgoing.
- 59:25Speaker 1: So he's like, whoa perfect My friend has a restaurant
- 59:29Speaker 1: and do you want to be a hostess? I said sure.
- 59:33Speaker 1: First day showed up. I had my heels on, I
- 59:35Speaker 1: was looking cute girl. At the end of the shift,
- 59:37Speaker 1: I was crawling to my car because you're on your
- 59:39Speaker 1: feet for like eight hours. I was like, oh, I
- 59:42Speaker 1: didn't know if I was going to make it, but
- 59:43Speaker 1: I made it.
- 59:44Speaker 4: I mean.
- 59:44Speaker 1: And then in hospitality from hostessing to management, and then
- 59:49Speaker 1: management to like special events and now oversee you know
- 59:54Speaker 1: all these events. And I've been in the hospitality business
- 59:55Speaker 1: for twenty.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: Years twenty two okay, yeah, a long time. And you
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: want to stay in why not?
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Okay? And it's good to me. I'm a people person anyway,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: so it's totally fine. But yeah, I think it's good.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: I like to eat.
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: And entertaining.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I me and my husband like, please don't leave
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: that job because I like to eat and go out
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: and okay baby.
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: Yeah, and it gives you some flexibility still, it does
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: have some self care and and your monthly we love
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: that for you. Was this like a dream job of
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: yours or like, what what did you think you would
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: be as a child.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: First I thought a dentist, but then I realized I
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: don't want to go on everyone's mouth, so that ain't
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: for me.
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: Germs yeah, we don't do that.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Yeah, and then I thought maybe a veterinarian.
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: Oh wow.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: But then I was like, then I got to take
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: care of ferrets, rats, lizards, just other stuff because I
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: was like, can I just be a cat and dog
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: that work?
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: Specialty? All right? Is that a thing?
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: So anyway, moved away from that and then I don't know,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: I just kind of fell into hospitality just being there,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: being around people.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: And yeah, you found it. So what are some of
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: your other passions? Like what are you passionate about?
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: Sleeping?
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Just kidding?
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: I mean, hey, I mean it's important. Our doctors talk
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: about sleep health, so it's very important.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it is. It's really self care. I'm
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: like the queen of self care.
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: I will love like I love when women talk about this.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: Yeah, we need to have more of it. I think
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: that's my passion really, just taking care. Porn into you, right,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: so you could be better for everyone else? Yeah, did
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: you ever.
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: Feel this pressure of becoming like mm hmm, you see
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: she said, let me finish, let me stop, let me stop,
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: because that could only be me exactly.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: You know what good for other people? They could do,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: you know, whatever works for them. But I know what
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: works for me in my dreams. I mean, yes, I'm thinking,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: you know, God has a plan to right, so what
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: I'm envisioning, He's envisioning something.
- 1:02:14Speaker 5: Right. You seem so sure of yourself, like you've always
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: been like that is that? Where do you think that
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: comes from being so secure in yourself?
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: I want to say that my parents and grandma, that's
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: just the way you were raised in that confidence, you know,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: and just kind of giving us that free reign to
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: be who you want.
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: To be and not really Yeah, I love that for
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: women because they typically like to put the women in
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: a box. But it seems like you were taught that it.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: Could be whatever step outside that thing you don't have
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: to and then if you find something, you step into
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: it and you don't like it, Okay, she tried to
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: give it and you move on.
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: Period.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: We love it.
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: We love it. Where do you see yourself in five years,
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: ten years? Career wise?
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Oo? Well, look, my babies are ones off the college
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: this year.
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: We're not empty nesting yet.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Yeah, so I have boys one off figure out where
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: she's going here soon Okay, I don't know, I mean definitely,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: my other one will probably be in college at that point,
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: and then we'll be left with one my baby, you know.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: I know for sure Michael and I would want to
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: travel more. I think it's hard since we've been married,
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: because we're coming up on twenty years. It's taking vacations
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: just him and I always had that little bit of
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: mom guilt. I don't have mom guilt when I go
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: to the SPA and girls trips because I know my
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: husband's there. Yeah, does that make sense? Like it does?
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: I know he's there with the kids, So it's kind
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: of it's easier for me to, you know, go on
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: the trips. But I think for him and I I
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: think just reconnecting too once the kids are older, because
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: I see that happening too. Once the kids are out,
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: you're looking like who are you? Oh yeah, you're my spouse. Okay,
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: where you've been? Like, I gotta nice to see you again.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: Nice to see you again, friend? Yeah? Do you still
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: like me?
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: All right, let's go, let's take a.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: Vacation, right. Yeah. So I think that's that will be
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: it once they're all out us just traveling and as.
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: You're evolving into, you know, in your career and your
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: kids moving out and becoming their own people. Where are
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: you hoping, like what mindset are you hoping to have
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: or to attain.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: M hm, that they're okay, that they're good, that we
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: did like job well done. Yeah h I mean the
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: state of the world right now. I'm a little I'm
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: a little nervous. I'm not gonna lie. The anxiety is
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: hella highs. I just don't know the world that we're
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: leading to our children or just you know, for the
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: next generation. But I just want to make sure they're okay.
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: Well, Mama se is gonna make sure that they're prepared
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: and ready for the world for sure.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: I send them some crazy reels. I'm like this my mom, Like, Mom,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: please stop sending me.
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: That is my mother. That is Terry Woodson. Like every
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: like every couple of minutes, you'll send like a new
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: Yeah she's sending me right, Yeah, Okay. My phone's on
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: D and D so that's why I keep touching. Oh yeah,
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: So your babies are going to flourish.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and they're all so different too.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: It's just kind of like, but you all have done
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: a beautiful job. Thank you. So it runs in the family.
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: So you guys have done a beautiful job. Thank you.
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: We're proud of you. We're going to take a quick
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: break and then we will be back for part two.
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: Stay tuned, Stay tuned.
