- 1:07- So Shauna, before we dive into celebrity friendships,
- 1:12I wanted to pick your brain.
- 1:14What makes a good friendship to you?
- 1:17- You mean just like in general?
- 1:19- Yeah.
- 1:19- Yeah.
- 1:20- What makes an iconic bestie do you?
- 1:24- You're hitting me with the deep shit today.
- 1:26(laughing)
- 1:28I literally sent you a Snapchat today
- 1:31of what I thought makes a good friend, which is so funny.
- 1:34So, and I said in my Snapchat from earlier
- 1:38that a really true friend sees the best in you
- 1:42and that they in their heart know that you're a good person,
- 1:45they believe in you and they always know
- 1:49that you have their back too.
- 1:51So your friend is always gonna see the best in you,
- 1:55know that you have good intentions
- 1:57and if you get into a disagreement,
- 1:59just work it out and talk it over.
- 2:01But you're always gonna have each other's backs,
- 2:03I think is what makes a good friend.
- 2:05- Yeah, I also think like celebrating each other's wins
- 2:09is a bit piece of that.
- 2:10Like you're kind of always that person's biggest supporter
- 2:14or you're always rooting them on.
- 2:16When you're not in a room, they're talking positively about you
- 2:19and really just making those positive friendships
- 2:23or positive energy. - There's not a good petition.
- 2:25- Exactly, like if I see something amazing happen to you,
- 2:28I'm not gonna be like, oh man, Olivia got to move away,
- 2:31got a raise, no, I'm like ragging everyone.
- 2:34Olivia got to move away and she's having
- 2:36this wonderful apartment and like, you know what I mean?
- 2:38So I totally agree with that.
- 2:40You hype each other up behind each other's backs
- 2:44and to each other's faces.
- 2:46- Yes, absolutely.
- 2:47And you know, there are so many iconic celebrity friendships
- 2:51over the years that we've seen, you know,
- 2:54across female and male friendships, you know,
- 2:57when I think of iconic celebrity friends,
- 3:00I think of people like Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
- 3:03We have Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
- 3:05We have Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift.
- 3:07We have Leonardo DiCaprio and Toby McGuire.
- 3:11We talked about her last week.
- 3:12She was also in an iconic feud.
- 3:14We have Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart, you know?
- 3:17- I love that so much.
- 3:18I also love that some of the people that were saying
- 3:21from their famous friendships also are in famous feuds
- 3:25like Taylor Swift.
- 3:26But I guess that happens.
- 3:28You're gonna have your besties
- 3:29and you're gonna have your enemies.
- 3:31- Love and hate is a thin line, you know?
- 3:33- You know what I mean?
- 3:34- You know, you love good, you hate good.
- 3:37- That's fair, that's fair.
- 3:38- I don't know if they say that, but, you know.
- 3:40- You know what they say?
- 3:41Well, you put a sandwich together on the streets.
- 3:43You gotta put the mustard on the bun.
- 3:45You know what I'm saying?
- 3:46That's what people have been saying.
- 3:50- That's what the people are saying.
- 3:52- That's what the people are saying.
- 3:53- We didn't get a newsboard at Transatlantic accent.
- 3:56- Oh, when you put the mustard on the bun
- 3:58and the middle of the street.
- 4:00God damn it.
- 4:01- And that's true friendship.
- 4:05Making your friend say everything in a newsboard.
- 4:09- Yes.
- 4:09And knowing how to make each other laugh.
- 4:12- That's the truth.
- 4:14Brad Pitt and George Clooney are a classic friendship pairing.
- 4:19You put this one on the list, I guess.
- 4:22Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid.
- 4:24Are they best friends?
- 4:25- Yeah, they are really good friends.
- 4:27They're kind of iconic together.
- 4:29They're model besties, you know?
- 4:30- Oh my god, that's like a thing.
- 4:32- Yeah.
- 4:34I mean twins.
- 4:36- twins, it's basically us walking the runway together
- 4:39and not eating.
- 4:41- Yeah, this one's for Nicole.
- 4:43- Oh, Jennifer, and Kourtney Cox.
- 4:45- Yeah.
- 4:46- You can have a nice, you know?
- 4:47- I do love that the whole friend's cast is still like friends.
- 4:50It's very sweet.
- 4:51- I love that.
- 4:54- Yeah, absolutely.
- 4:55- So what do you think?
- 4:57I don't know, I feel like it's so hard
- 5:00and there is that classic trope
- 5:01in Hollywood that marriages never last.
- 5:04Why do you think some celebrity friendships last so long?
- 5:08- When I think about celebrity friendships
- 5:12and what we know about celebrity friendships,
- 5:14a lot of the time in publicity and celebrity PR,
- 5:18they always say that, you know, one plus one
- 5:21does not equal to a lot of the time.
- 5:24It really explodes you into a different level
- 5:28because you have two fandoms coming together
- 5:31and as well as two haters of different things.
- 5:34Like one plus one is almost like four
- 5:37within any type of relationship,
- 5:39whether it's romantic, it's friendships
- 5:41or it's a negative relationship where you have feuds.
- 5:45And ultimately, I think that there is a financial reason
- 5:50to stay friends as well.
- 5:52And then I think there is this sort of trauma bond
- 5:57that happens between famous people
- 6:00where I especially feel like an a less celebrity.
- 6:03There are only so many people who can relate
- 6:06to the experience of celebrity and fandom
- 6:11and stand on.
- 6:12- That's what I'm thinking too.
- 6:13It's like only a celebrity could also put up
- 6:18with you being followed around, right?
- 6:21Like, Kindle and GG.
- 6:23I mean, you can't just be friends with Kindle Jenner
- 6:26and not be okay with, you're gonna get photographed at brunch.
- 6:29You're gonna get photographed at the mall.
- 6:31You can't just do normal shit like you and I
- 6:34just go thrifting and sit at the bar and have a beer, right?
- 6:36It's gonna be next level.
- 6:38Like you have to know what you're signing up for.
- 6:41And I do always like it when I see pictures and articles
- 6:44and stuff of celebrities who still have their friends
- 6:48from childhood.
- 6:49- Yep.
- 6:49- Hillary Duff posts a lot of pictures with just like
- 6:53a big gaggle of girls and then I'll go to some other profiles
- 6:56and they have like a thousand followers.
- 6:59And I'm like, oh, that's just like her friend
- 7:01from like growing up and I love to do that too.
- 7:05But again, I mean, that's Hillary Duffers
- 7:07like Kindle Jenner, like levels of fame.
- 7:09So it's like, I don't know.
- 7:11I would be curious, you know, how often really
- 7:15fucking famous people are just like,
- 7:16let me catch up with that girl from high school.
- 7:19- Yeah, I almost think of like so, you know,
- 7:24it's shocker we're talking about her.
- 7:26Taylor Swift.
- 7:28She is still really good friends with Abigail,
- 7:31who's the girl that she wrote 15 about.
- 7:34- Oh, cute.
- 7:35- And Abigail has become a like,
- 7:39Swiftie celebrity in her own right.
- 7:43And there are certain types of people who are chasing that.
- 7:48But I can only imagine like as a plebe as a regular person
- 7:52who only wants to be a regular person,
- 7:55that would be incredibly hard where like people
- 7:59are even trying to get close to this regular person
- 8:03because they could eventually one day get close to that celebrity.
- 8:08- Very frustrating.
- 8:09Or they're just like, you think you're making a new friend.
- 8:12So what's Taylor like?
- 8:13I don't even like me.
- 8:15- You do?
- 8:16- Yes.
- 8:17- Yeah.
- 8:18- So I think that among those friendships,
- 8:21there's a level of knowing and like shared experience
- 8:26and kind of like similar states, right?
- 8:29Like, oh, I would love to go to Jenner with you,
- 8:31but I have to bring my six bodyguards.
- 8:33Or if you want to post a picture with me,
- 8:36you have to meet with my publicist before
- 8:38and make sure you're not like saying the wrong thing.
- 8:40Oh, if you want to even be around me,
- 8:42you have to be perfectly clean on social media.
- 8:45You can't have a problematic past.
- 8:47Where I think there is this level of that.
- 8:50But at the same time, you know, Hollywood is a very
- 8:54doggy dog world.
- 8:56So I think that a month, like the reason that we gravitate
- 8:59to so many of these celebrity friendships
- 9:01as well is because when we see that solidarity among people,
- 9:05we're like, oh, good, they're not like
- 9:07- They're just like a beauty.
- 9:08- They're not, yeah.
- 9:09- They're not all pieces of shit.
- 9:11My fave lady Gaga has some of her old friends
- 9:15still from back before she was famous.
- 9:17One of her best friends, it's either Sonya or Sanja Durum
- 9:21passed away from cancer years ago
- 9:23and Gaga was just, I remember, so grief-stricken.
- 9:28And then she is still friends with Lady Starlight.
- 9:32- Who started - who were touring with Gaga
- 9:34when she was first in the New York club,
- 9:35seeing it was like the Lady Gaga Lady Starlight debut review.
- 9:40Like it was the two of them.
- 9:41And so they're still friends.
- 9:43So I do like to see that, but I agree.
- 9:46You gotta know what you're signing up for
- 9:47when you're friends with a celebrity.
- 9:49- Which is what we tell our friends all the time.
- 9:51- Yeah. - You know.
- 9:53- You gotta be prepared for this.
- 9:54- I'm gonna prepare this space.
- 9:55- We'll send you with a bridge.
- 9:56- Right.
- 9:57- We stopped in the streets.
- 9:58I hope that's okay.
- 9:59(laughing)
- 10:02Oh, that's just because we're obnoxious in public.
- 10:04Oh, okay.
- 10:05Okay, okay, okay.
- 10:06You got it, got it.
- 10:07(dramatic music)
- 10:10- We talked a little bit about celebrity duos
- 10:16that are most commonly known or talked about
- 10:18in the zeitgeist in the world.
- 10:20But, Shana, I wanna know the celebrity duos
- 10:23that captivate you the most.
- 10:25The ones that you find yourself thinking about
- 10:27and thinking rich people goals.
- 10:29- Who do I think about when I lay in bed at night?
- 10:33(laughing)
- 10:34- That's a different question.
- 10:35That's a different question.
- 10:37- Oprah.
- 10:37(laughing)
- 10:39- So I think-- - Let's unpack that.
- 10:40Let's unpack that.
- 10:41- Let's go through this a little bit.
- 10:43Oprah is goals.
- 10:44And part of one of the most iconic friendships,
- 10:47I think, in entertainment,
- 10:49and that is Oprah Winfrey and Gail King.
- 10:52Their friendship has spanned nearly five decades.
- 10:57So, their friendship began in 1976
- 11:00when they were both working at the WJZ TV station in Baltimore.
- 11:05Oprah was a 22-year-old news anchor
- 11:07and Gail was the 21-year-old production assistant.
- 11:10There was a snowstorm in Baltimore
- 11:12and Oprah offered Gail a place to stay at her apartment
- 11:15and they just stayed up all night,
- 11:16chatting and became best friends.
- 11:18- You kidding me?
- 11:19- Oh, okay.
- 11:20- Love that.
- 11:22Their friendship was just unshakable and still is.
- 11:26Gail was on the Oprah show all of the time.
- 11:28Just literally, here's my best friend, Gail.
- 11:31Oprah had a magazine called O,
- 11:34mm-hmm, which ran from 2000 to 2020
- 11:38and Gail was an editor.
- 11:39And Oprah has said that Gail is the person who knows her best
- 11:44and as referred to as the mother,
- 11:46I never had the sister everybody would want.
- 11:48The friend everybody deserves.
- 11:51And like any good girl on girl friendship
- 11:54and I guess boy and boy friendship, any good friendship ever.
- 11:58People have always speculated that they might be more than friends.
- 12:01- Ooh, yes.
- 12:04- It's not a celebrity female friendship unless they say,
- 12:06are you two, Sizzling?
- 12:08- Are you guys like Gail?
- 12:10- Are you like Sizzling?
- 12:12- I just, you know, people ever say that
- 12:14about Ben Aff, like I'm at Damon, do they?
- 12:16- Do they?
- 12:17- Yeah, there are a lot of game rumors about that.
- 12:19- Are there?
- 12:20- I don't know if they're Sizzling or Ring.
- 12:21I don't know if that's the mechanics of it.
- 12:23- I don't think that's what Gail guys do.
- 12:26- I don't think they're Sizzling or Ring.
- 12:28- I don't think they're Sizzling or Ring.
- 12:29- Bum, butt, butt.
- 12:30- Light to butt.
- 12:31(laughing)
- 12:33- Airstri, airstri, airstri.
- 12:34(laughing)
- 12:37That is such a dark part of the movie
- 12:40and I quote it all of the time.
- 12:42- Anyway, how can you not?
- 12:43- Repaying for a drink.
- 12:44- Sizzling.
- 12:45- Oh, thank you.
- 12:46Yes.
- 12:47- Terrible, horrible, wonderful movie.
- 12:50Anyway, Oprah and Gail.
- 12:52- Oh, that's cool.
- 12:54- Oprah has been with Steadman for decades
- 12:57and Gail came out to be married now.
- 12:58His name is William Bumpus, which is an old name.
- 13:02That's a cool fucking, oh never mind.
- 13:04They were married for one year.
- 13:06- Oh.
- 13:07- I don't think she's--
- 13:08- Oh, that didn't help the gay rumours.
- 13:09- No.
- 13:10(laughing)
- 13:11They were married for one year.
- 13:13I don't think she's married anymore.
- 13:15- Well, yeah, Gail Bumpus.
- 13:18- Gail Bumpus is a sick fucking name.
- 13:21And then the next cool result is
- 13:22are Oprah and Gail in a relationship?
- 13:25(laughing)
- 13:28A friendship line.
- 13:30But yeah, I love them.
- 13:31I think that Oprah is one of the most famous people
- 13:34in the entire planet.
- 13:36And for her to have a female friendship
- 13:38that has lasted five decades,
- 13:41where they support each other privately,
- 13:43publicly vacations, all of that stuff,
- 13:45support each other.
- 13:46It's like you mentioned earlier,
- 13:48always rooting for each other.
- 13:49That'd be like if I had Shana Magazine
- 13:51and you were an editor, you had like,
- 13:53oh yeah, and I can see it and I was the editor.
- 13:55Like, I love that.
- 13:56So--
- 13:57- Absolutely.
- 13:58- Oh, Brango.
- 13:59- We can even keep it as, oh, oh my God.
- 14:03We could call it so magazine, like Shana, I don't love it.
- 14:07So--
- 14:09- Branding.
- 14:10- Let's do it.
- 14:11- I should start in a magazine.
- 14:12We're channeling Oprah and Gail.
- 14:16- And we are.
- 14:17- So I think when I think back
- 14:20to my most iconic celebrity friendship,
- 14:24one I would wanna be a part of, a third wheel,
- 14:27I would wanna be either of them.
- 14:28I really think of Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore.
- 14:32- Yes, I love them.
- 14:34- Their friendship has spanned since Drew Barrymore
- 14:37was 14, Cameron Diaz was 16,
- 14:40they actually now--
- 14:41- I think that was that long.
- 14:42- Oh my gosh, yeah.
- 14:43- Yeah, they're adorable.
- 14:45So they met in a coffee shop that Diaz was working in.
- 14:50She was a model at the time.
- 14:52She hadn't gotten picked up in anything really famous
- 14:55and she was mainly trying to be a model.
- 14:58It was like a coffee soda shop thing.
- 15:01- Oh, okay.
- 15:02- And Drew Barrymore when she wasn't clubbing at 14.
- 15:06- Right, she's going to this coffee shop.
- 15:08- And we heard autobiography, by the way,
- 15:10Little Girl Law.
- 15:11- I think it's on, it's insane.
- 15:14Like, it's kind of interesting.
- 15:16So I don't know if she's retracted this.
- 15:18She has said that she doesn't want people to read that.
- 15:22- Really?
- 15:23- And he wore it because, yeah,
- 15:23she was in such like a dark place
- 15:25and it wasn't like authentic or true.
- 15:29And she was really kind of like covering up
- 15:31what was really going on with her back then.
- 15:33So, but I mean, if you've already been--
- 15:35- Drew, release an updated book.
- 15:37I read it in high school.
- 15:38I think I wrote a book report on it.
- 15:40- Like, that's a dark subject matter.
- 15:44But if you, our unfamiliar Drew Barrymore was going through
- 15:48a addiction or her mother was taking her clubbing,
- 15:50she was doing a lot of things that are 14,
- 15:53even younger than that, Lynette.
- 15:54- Yeah, she's like a girl.
- 15:55- She's like 14 year old.
- 15:56- She should not be doing.
- 15:58And so she was kind of in this dark night of the soul.
- 16:01Her and Cameradia's were friends throughout this.
- 16:04Drew Barrymore kind of went out in spotlight,
- 16:06went to rehab, tried to fix herself.
- 16:08Cameradia's became super famous in the mask in 1994.
- 16:13And Drew Barrymore came back as like Poison Ivy in 1992.
- 16:17- Oh, yeah.
- 16:19- They made the early 80s, made this return to film
- 16:22in the 90s.
- 16:23And we're both seen as these kind of darlings of film.
- 16:27And cinema, we were really introduced to them
- 16:30as this iconic duo in Charlie's Angels with Lucy Lou.
- 16:35Yeah.
- 16:36- Yes, you've probably seen that iconic photo of Drew
- 16:39in the leather pants holding the bottle of champagne.
- 16:43Their tour bus actually broke down on the way to the premiere.
- 16:47And so they just get out of the car
- 16:49and bring the alcohol with them and walk to the premiere.
- 16:52And that's where that goes from.
- 16:53- That sounds like me and you, all this time.
- 16:55- Like, Scroa.
- 16:57- Yeah, I just got an opportunity to shoot with it.
- 16:59(laughing)
- 17:00- So Drew Barrymore produced Charlie's Angels
- 17:04and ultimately their friendship continued through those movies
- 17:08and has continued.
- 17:10- How cute.
- 17:12- They stayed really close when I forgot about this.
- 17:15Drew Barrymore was married to Tom Green
- 17:17for also one year.
- 17:19- Oh, that's right.
- 17:21He was in Charlie's Angels.
- 17:23The Chad was great.
- 17:25- The Chad was great.
- 17:26- She's like, yes.
- 17:27- How was the Chad?
- 17:29- Yes, God.
- 17:31- You know, there were some ups and downs,
- 17:35manly down being marrying Tom Green.
- 17:38We all make choices.
- 17:39They've remained private friends, public friends.
- 17:42They have really kind of made a return recently
- 17:46to embracing their friendship
- 17:48and really talking about each other.
- 17:49They have some adorable Instagram posts
- 17:52about how much they love each other.
- 17:54So definitely check out their Instagram for that.
- 17:58- How cute.
- 17:59I didn't know that they had known each other for that long.
- 18:01That's adorable.
- 18:02- Yeah, so they met when Drew was super down
- 18:05who's still famous, but Dee was not a household name,
- 18:09but it's a beautiful friendship
- 18:12and Drew Barrymore unfortunately was a scab this past year,
- 18:17but I do love her.
- 18:18I think she's been through a lot.
- 18:19- I like her a lot too.
- 18:20I'll cut her some slack.
- 18:22I think she seems like she means well,
- 18:24she seems like she has a really big heart.
- 18:26Apparently not for union workers,
- 18:30no, not for union workers.
- 18:32(laughing)
- 18:33For everyone else to take unions.
- 18:35- Anyone who's sitting on the sofa,
- 18:37she's like wants to crawl into their lap
- 18:39- Absolutely.
- 18:40- to their skin, their face, like,
- 18:42can I keep you in my walls?
- 18:43Yeah, so.
- 18:45- Literally.
- 18:45- So funny.
- 18:47- So yeah, I think that's my most iconic.
- 18:50- I love that.
- 18:51(dramatic music)
- 18:54We're talking about female friendships,
- 18:57but I think that's just because we love each other so much.
- 19:00There are a lot of amazing male friendships out there,
- 19:03obviously too.
- 19:04And I think there should be more men who express their love
- 19:07for the other men in a friendship manner
- 19:09and without making, I don't know.
- 19:12Guys are always so weird about expressing
- 19:13that they like each other.
- 19:14It's like you ask,
- 19:15ask my husband who is best friend
- 19:17and he's just like,
- 19:18(grunting)
- 19:20- What?
- 19:21- Who?
- 19:22- Oh, yeah, I guess he's okay.
- 19:25- That man that you've known for 30 years is okay.
- 19:27All right, I digress.
- 19:28(laughing)
- 19:30- Female friendships is where it's at.
- 19:33This one is sad,
- 19:35but I think it is amazing and iconic and beautiful
- 19:38Sarah Michelle Geller and Shannon Doherty.
- 19:41So they shared a close friendship that began
- 19:43in the late 1990s and early 2000s
- 19:46during both of their peak television fame.
- 19:49And it continued up until Shannon Doherty's death last year.
- 19:52So here's a little break down.
- 19:55So Sarah and Shannon were both in TV in the 1990s.
- 19:59Sarah obviously was buffy, my favorite,
- 20:02a buffy the vampire slayer
- 20:04and Shannon was prue, hollow, well, uncharmed.
- 20:07So they were both kind of in that fantasy,
- 20:10witch and slayer type television series.
- 20:13- Both on the WB.
- 20:14- They were both on the WB, exactly.
- 20:17So they both shared a connection, shared experiences,
- 20:21young actresses on the WB,
- 20:23kind of met through those cast things.
- 20:26So throughout their careers,
- 20:28they have been absolutely inseparable.
- 20:31Soma Blayer is part of that friendship career as well.
- 20:34Their pictures on Instagram were always so adorable.
- 20:38I remember one with the three of them doing that trend
- 20:41where it's like, you and I should try this at the time.
- 20:44I'm surprised we have it.
- 20:45One person sits like between another person's legs,
- 20:48like almost in their lap,
- 20:49who puts a champagne glass in their mouth
- 20:51and like, it's sit back and tries to get,
- 20:53they're like, champagne in the other girl's mouth.
- 20:55Anyway, it always ends in disaster.
- 20:57- We're trying to get a shower.
- 20:59- What's your contest?
- 21:00- A little golden shower.
- 21:03- Okay, not bad.
- 21:04- Oh god.
- 21:05- I meant, I meant Pino N' War.
- 21:06Oh god.
- 21:07Anyway, these two queens have gotten invocations together.
- 21:12They shared a mutual love of cooking and entertaining,
- 21:16personal life milestones,
- 21:17each other to support each other's with babies
- 21:19and weddings.
- 21:20Shannon Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.
- 21:25She went into remission, but unfortunately,
- 21:28it returned as stage four in 2020.
- 21:31Sarah Michelle Geller publicly supported Doherty
- 21:34on social media all the time.
- 21:36Throughout her struggle was always visiting her,
- 21:39always posting pictures about her.
- 21:41Tragically, Shannon did pass away in July 2024.
- 21:45Since then, Sarah Michelle Geller has posted
- 21:48a lot of tributes to her friend, Shannon,
- 21:51highlighting their friendship over the past three decades.
- 21:55She praised her strength, resilience,
- 21:57and fighting spirit throughout her battle of cancer.
- 22:01So, very sad, ended, you know, short,
- 22:06I don't know, that just breaks my heart.
- 22:08I can't imagine losing your best friend of 30 years like that.
- 22:11So, heart goes out to Sarah Michelle Geller
- 22:14and that is a beautiful friendship
- 22:17that she should always celebrate in whole close.
- 22:20- I would do anything to be besties
- 22:22with Sarah Michelle Geller.
- 22:23- Oh my god, right.
- 22:24I know, and I know her and Selma Blair are still friends.
- 22:28Selma has, I liked her so much
- 22:31and she's definitely made some weird comments
- 22:34in the last year about like Islam
- 22:37and just, I don't know, she has some interesting
- 22:41public statements that she's made.
- 22:43- Yeah, she's also very good.
- 22:45- Yeah, she's also going through MS.
- 22:48- Yes, she is going through a huge, you know,
- 22:51health crisis that I could never imagine either.
- 22:53So, but yeah, Sarah Michelle Geller
- 22:55hanging on to her girlfriends and her husband, listen.
- 22:59- Yeah.
- 23:00- She has also been with her husband,
- 23:01Freddie Prince Jr. for decades.
- 23:03So, my girl doesn't just love a mendigem.
- 23:06She holds on to that.
- 23:08- It's all good.
- 23:10- I mean, we'll stop believing in love
- 23:12if they ain't ever good to divorce.
- 23:14- Oh my god, no, if they get a divorce,
- 23:15I'm getting a divorce.
- 23:16Like it's gonna happen.
- 23:17(laughing)
- 23:18- Sarah Michelle Geller said I had to, I'm sorry.
- 23:20- I'm so sorry.
- 23:21- I don't believe them up anymore.
- 23:22- I have to end this.
- 23:25(laughing)
- 23:26- I'm just kidding, babe.
- 23:27I'm just kidding.
- 23:28- He's not listening here to say.
- 23:30- He's not listening.
- 23:31- He's playing Marvel rivals right now
- 23:33with his headphones onto, I'm sure he's not.
- 23:36- So, I think that this friendship,
- 23:40it really is a testament to the shared trauma bond
- 23:44of it all that happens as well.
- 23:47So, the next friendship that I really, really love
- 23:49and started at a very young age as well
- 23:52is Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams.
- 23:55- Oh yeah, they're so cute.
- 23:57Are they still friends?
- 23:58- Yes, they are.
- 23:59So, they are Sansa and Arya within the Game of Thrones.
- 24:04They both were in the North for a lot of their early seasons
- 24:09as well.
- 24:11I mean, Sansa, spoiler alert first show that I ended
- 24:14and was widely talked about.
- 24:16- Oh, really?
- 24:16- Sansa eventually goes to King's Landing,
- 24:18but a lot of the first season they are together
- 24:22and they were incredibly young when they first started
- 24:26the show, their characters are very young.
- 24:28And so, they became really good friends.
- 24:32Instantly, Maisie Williams is quoted
- 24:34kind of in that early audition process and says,
- 24:37like, even if I don't get the part,
- 24:38I really want that girl to be my friend.
- 24:41She's really cool.
- 24:42- Oh, that's so cute.
- 24:43- Right.
- 24:44(laughing)
- 24:45And, Sophie has been quoted saying, like, Maisie was special.
- 24:49We just got on like that.
- 24:51They were super, super close and spent a lot of time together.
- 24:55The show filmed for an incredibly long time,
- 24:58went on for an even longer time in their premieres.
- 25:01I think their carpool karaoke is one of the funniest things
- 25:05in the world.
- 25:06- Oh, it's so cute.
- 25:08- When Sansa's like pretending to be dead star.
- 25:11- Oh no.
- 25:12- It cracks me up.
- 25:14- It cracks me up so much.
- 25:15- On the show, it's so serious and the stakes are so dire
- 25:19and both of them are going through like horrific trauma
- 25:24and watching their dad's head cut off.
- 25:26And then behind the scenes, they're so unserious.
- 25:29That's what I love about that cast so much
- 25:32is like all of the behind the scenes,
- 25:34they just switch immediately to being like big goofballs,
- 25:38like every single one of them.
- 25:39So, I love it.
- 25:40- So I love all of them.
- 25:41- I love all of them.
- 25:42- You feel like you have to when the subject matter
- 25:45is so heavy.
- 25:46- Yeah, can we please be silly now?
- 25:49(laughs)
- 25:50- Yeah, and Game of Thrones is kind of especially that part
- 25:55of the story of Game of Thrones,
- 25:58how's the dragon is a little bit better,
- 26:00but it is very brutal to women.
- 26:03- Yeah, exactly.
- 26:04- So I can't imagine being like 15
- 26:08and working through that subject material
- 26:10and then trying to portray it,
- 26:12like Sansa, especially it just gets brutalized
- 26:16throughout that whole show.
- 26:17- She's a little badass and like a warrior.
- 26:22And Sansa's just like, here's this terrible man to marry.
- 26:26Okay, here's this new terrible man to marry.
- 26:29I mean, Tyrion, he was a show.
- 26:31- Yeah, but you know.
- 26:33So the subject matter, just the difficulty
- 26:37of being away really bonded them.
- 26:40In 2016, they got matching tattoos, commemorating
- 26:45the date they learned that they had been cast.
- 26:48So it's 0809 is the date that they got tattooed.
- 26:51So 789.
- 26:52And they did the iconic Carpool karaoke during the last season,
- 26:57whenever Sophie Turner got married to Joe Jonas,
- 27:01she was a bride's man.
- 27:02- All right, okay.
- 27:03- All right, okay.
- 27:04- Yeah, well, he's still alive,
- 27:05but the relationship isn't.
- 27:07(laughs)
- 27:08- I think Sophie Turner is just so funny and so iconic.
- 27:12Like that video.
- 27:13- I think I had the hockey game where she chugs
- 27:16the glass of wine and then like dabs.
- 27:18- She is just so--
- 27:19- That was back when dabbing was big.
- 27:21- Oh my God, let's bring back dabbing.
- 27:23- Please?
- 27:23- Yeah.
- 27:24- She's just so unserious.
- 27:26I love any celebrity like that who can just be like,
- 27:29I don't know.
- 27:30I already said this, just be a goofball.
- 27:31Just be a li--
- 27:32- Yeah.
- 27:33- A silly goober, please.
- 27:35That's all I want to tell you.
- 27:36So after you listen in this episode,
- 27:38watch their carpool karaoke, it's absolutely hilarious.
- 27:41- It'll smile on your face.
- 27:43- They publicly support each other.
- 27:44They always talk about how they will always be close
- 27:47and they're each other's soulmates
- 27:49and just really have that mutual growth.
- 27:52I have a lot of friends that I've had since a very young age.
- 27:55I know you have as well.
- 27:57I'm sensing a theme here.
- 27:59I picked two red chips that started at very young ages.
- 28:03I think there's something so beautiful about changing
- 28:07completely as a person.
- 28:08I hope you've changed completely as a person since you were 16.
- 28:11- Oh no, I'm the same, exactly the same as I was.
- 28:14Here are the rings and bibles.
- 28:16- Oh God.
- 28:18But, you know, so I think that's something beautiful
- 28:20with changing as a person and those friendships
- 28:23like evolving and growing and standing.
- 28:26- Sticking with somebody through, yeah,
- 28:27through every stage of your life.
- 28:29Like, I have friends who have literally seen me
- 28:33through tragedy, through triumph, through my wedding,
- 28:37through them getting married and divorces and babies
- 28:40and moving.
- 28:41I've had friends who have moved across the country
- 28:43and then come back and then I, you know,
- 28:45it's just, those are the ones that really stand
- 28:47the test of time.
- 28:48But then also there's those friends that you make
- 28:51in your 20s who are like with you through
- 28:53that transformative time where you're like,
- 28:56you finally are starting to kind of feel like a grownup.
- 28:59Like when you and I met, you know.
- 29:01I have one more friendship that I'm gonna shout out.
- 29:04I'm not gonna go into details,
- 29:05but I know you have one more to.
- 29:06But I gotta give some love to Steve Martin
- 29:08and Martin Short.
- 29:09They're so cute.
- 29:10- I love that.
- 29:11Oh my God.
- 29:12- I love that Martin Short and Mariel Stryford dating now.
- 29:16Oh my God, right.
- 29:17It's amazing.
- 29:18Do you watch only markers in the building?
- 29:20I don't remember.
- 29:20- No, I still need to.
- 29:22But they just want a sad look.
- 29:25- Yeah.
- 29:26I loved it.
- 29:27You should watch it.
- 29:28It's hilarious.
- 29:29And they are both adorable on it.
- 29:30But yeah, that's my little final shout out.
- 29:34- I think that they're cute.
- 29:36They're adorable.
- 29:37We love a long lasting straight van friendship.
- 29:40I'm also gonna throw a male friendship into the mix.
- 29:44Not straight, but we have Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen.
- 29:49Oh my God, I love them.
- 29:51- If you didn't know, it was actually intended
- 29:54to be a romantic relationship.
- 29:56So I'm gonna try to set them up on a blind date.
- 29:59- Really?
- 30:00- Not Gwen, but Tommy never worked.
- 30:02Anderson Cooper obviously flying around the world,
- 30:04being a news anchor.
- 30:07And so their romantic connection never prospered,
- 30:11but they ultimately became really good friends.
- 30:14- I think they are close friends.
- 30:16- I love it when they let them drink on New Year's.
- 30:18Like let these in.
- 30:19- And all the fans every year,
- 30:20like let these men drink for the left of them.
- 30:22- Let these win drink.
- 30:24- Well, Andy Cohen was definitely doing more than drinking
- 30:28in 2020.
- 30:29And that's why they didn't let him drink in 2021.
- 30:32You could see some of it.
- 30:33- Ew.
- 30:34- It's his skin.
- 30:36- Yeah, how did it is known?
- 30:37- The bass room.
- 30:38- It's a little bit too much.
- 30:39- Yeah, and so that was why they had to cut him off.
- 30:43But no, I think that Andy Cohen,
- 30:46he's such a silly goofy guy as well.
- 30:48And like he's on, watch what happens, lies.
- 30:50And like his whole brand is getting people to crack,
- 30:54getting drunk, like saying crazy things.
- 30:56And then Anderson Cooper is so straight-laced.
- 30:59- Yes, kind of serious.
- 31:01It's perfect.
- 31:03- And he just messes with him like the whole time.
- 31:05- Yeah, he brings a whole humanness
- 31:06to Anderson Cooper as well.
- 31:09So I really love their friendship.
- 31:12I think they're silly.
- 31:13And then now they're both dads and moving into that life.
- 31:17So you would never put them together,
- 31:19but when you do, it's kind of hilarious and funny.
- 31:23- Yeah, I love this like opposites attract kind of thing.
- 31:26Like it's super Martha, I think it's perfect.
- 31:29And then you have bitches like us who everyone's like,
- 31:32are you guys sisters?
- 31:33(laughs)
- 31:35- Nope, just annoying in the same way.
- 31:38(dramatic music)
- 31:41- So Shana, what have you been up to?
- 31:45- Oh God.
- 31:46- Huh?
- 31:47- Working Valentine's Day.
- 31:52Oh, Mike, you're wedding anniversary at Il.
- 31:55- Oh, I love.
- 31:57- My tenure wedding anniversary is this weekend.
- 31:59So.
- 32:00- Oh, cute.
- 32:01- What are you guys gonna do?
- 32:02- Thank you.
- 32:03We have dinner reservations at this place called El by Rose.
- 32:06How perfect is that?
- 32:08- It is.
- 32:08- Yeah, I've never been,
- 32:09but it's supposedly very delicious, fancy, mixed and food.
- 32:12And Scottsdale, Arizona.
- 32:14- And then I think we're just gonna spend the weekend
- 32:18together watching movies.
- 32:19We have been rewatching every single Star Wars movie.
- 32:23When I say we, I mean, me and my husband Andrew do
- 32:25in the sinners.
- 32:27- So we had a little back and forth.
- 32:29We couldn't decide if we wanted to rewatch all of them
- 32:32in chronological order, like episode 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,
- 32:37or if we wanted to do release date order.
- 32:40- Which would be.
- 32:41- 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9.
- 32:44(laughs)
- 32:45So we ended up doing that.
- 32:46So we ended up, we watched all three, 1970s and 80s Star Wars.
- 32:51And then last night we watched Phantom Menace,
- 32:53which is,
- 32:54God, I watched this movie once before this.
- 32:58And it was in 1999 in a movie theater when I was 10 years old.
- 33:03- Yeah, I don't know if we're on to Melier.
- 33:05- Oh God, it's Anakin Skywalker.
- 33:06So it's the guy who grows up to be Darth Vader.
- 33:09- Oh, yeah.
- 33:10- This is origin story.
- 33:11So it's Emma's a little kid.
- 33:12There are some great spots in it.
- 33:15Like Iwem McGregor plays Obi-Wan Kenobi and he is amazing.
- 33:18Darth Maul is great, but the graphics and like charge our binks,
- 33:22I wanted to end it all.
- 33:24Yeah, I, me so I watched my life watching this movie.
- 33:29Like it was so bad.
- 33:30- I love that so much.
- 33:34- Yeah, so that's what we're up to.
- 33:35Watching Star Wars, enjoy our marriage.
- 33:38- Okay.
- 33:39How about you?
- 33:40(laughs)
- 33:41- So I said it was texting, "Chana, I am now by the end of the night.
- 33:48I am on 13 books in this year."
- 33:51- I need to know all about this book
- 33:53that made you cry earlier.
- 33:54- Oh my God, yes.
- 33:55Dear listener, she sends me this snapshot of just,
- 33:58tears just running down her face.
- 34:02Like who are you?
- 34:04A book?
- 34:05A book?
- 34:06No, I was like, "Oh God, I'm crying."
- 34:09And we recorded in like 45 minutes of it.
- 34:11I had to redo all of my makeup.
- 34:14- You look amazing.
- 34:15You know, I had to pull my shit out from my bootstrap.
- 34:19So it's called the seven year slip.
- 34:22I have never read the author before.
- 34:25It is, we see it each by Ashley Poston.
- 34:30And it's actually like really, really cute.
- 34:32So it's a magical realism book.
- 34:36It's a romance book.
- 34:37I've been really into romance.
- 34:39I'm trying to trick myself into thinking I,
- 34:42I want a relationship right now.
- 34:44So you really just want to get dicked down by a fairy,
- 34:49a guy who was covered in shadows.
- 34:52- Yeah, well that's why I'm trying to read
- 34:54more real life romances.
- 34:56- Okay.
- 34:57- And sometimes I'm going to read more real life romances
- 34:59'cause I'm like, okay, I'm never gonna find
- 35:01a seven foot fey who's jacked out of his mind
- 35:04and only wants me for me because I mean to him.
- 35:08Like that's just not gonna happen in the real world.
- 35:11So I need a grumpy sunshine, I'm the grumpy,
- 35:15they're the sunshine and exist in some sort of world.
- 35:19So it's magical realism where it's our world
- 35:22that there is like a light element of magic within it.
- 35:25- Okay, I'm happy to know.
- 35:26- And to this book specifically,
- 35:28it is called the seven year slip
- 35:31and it's this woman who is dealing with her ant
- 35:34who passed away.
- 35:35She inherits this apartment and this apartment is magic
- 35:39and it can basically sense her back seven years in time.
- 35:44And so it's called the seven year slip
- 35:47and it's absolutely beautiful.
- 35:50I was crying my eyes out because the ant
- 35:54on the lives herself and I've talked about it before in my ant.
- 35:58- Oh yeah.
- 35:59- And it's very similar to my ant.
- 36:00So it was like, oh my God.
