A note from Dom Gaspar Lefevre. The church celebrates today the feast of Saint Cyril and of Saint Methodius, who both promised under oath to persevere in the faith of blessed Peter and of the Roman pontiffs and brought innumerable recruits to Peter from among the Bulgarians, Moravians, and Bohemians.

Brothers by blood, they were born in the ninth century at Salonika and distinguished themselves by their progress in the sciences at Constantinople. Anointed bishops by Pope Adrian the second, they converted the Slavonic nations. Inventing a writing for their language, they translated the scripture and celebrated the sacred rites in the idiom of which they are considered the authors. Saint Cyril died at Rome in 08/1969 and was buried near the relics of Saint Clement which he had brought from Chersenesus. Saint Methodius died in 08/1985.
• 1:40
In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen. The introit. Let thy priests, oh, Lord, be clothed with justice, and let thy saints rejoice for thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. Oh Lord, remember David and all his meekness.
• 2:10
Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. Let thy priests, O Lord, be clothed with justice, and let thy saints rejoice for thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. The Collect, let us pray. O God, who by the ministry of thy blessed confessors and bishops, Cyril Methodius, was pleased to bring the nations of Slovenia to the knowledge of thy name.
• 2:58
Grant that we who glory in keeping their festival may have fellowship with them forevermore through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews. Brethren, there was made a succession of priests since death denied them permanence. Whereas Jesus continues forever and his priestly office is unchanging.
• 3:43
That is why he can give eternal salvation to those who through him make their way to God. He lives on still to make intercession on our behalf. Such was the high priest that suited our need. Holy and guiltless and undefiled, not reckoned among us sinners, lifted high above all the heavens. One who has no need to do as those other priests did, offering a twofold sacrifice day by day.
• 4:22
First for his own sins, then for those of the people. What he has done, he has done once for all. And the offering was himself, Jesus Christ, our Lord. The gradual. I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints shall rejoice with exceeding great joy.
• 4:52
There will I bring forth a horn to David. I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. Alleluia. Alleluia. The Lord hath sworn and he will not repent.
• 5:07
Thou art a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Luke. At that time, Jesus appointed 72 others and sent them before him two and two into all the cities and villages he himself was to visit. The harvest, he told them, is plentiful enough, but the laborers are few.
• 5:41
You must ask the Lord to whom the harvest belongs to send laborers out for the harvesting. Go then and remember, I am sending you out to be like lambs among wolves. You are not to carry purse or wallet or shoes. You are to give no one greeting on your way. When you enter a house, say, first of all, peace be to this house.
• 6:11
And if those who dwell there are men of goodwill, your good wishes shall come down upon it. If not, they will come back to you the way they went. Remain in the same house eating and drinking what they have to give you. The laborer has a right to his maintenance. Do not move from one house to another.
• 6:35
When you enter a city and they make you welcome, be content to eat the fare they offer you and heal those who are sick there and tell them the kingdom of God is close upon you. The offertory. God is wonderful and his saints. The God of Israel is he who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God.
• 7:08
The secret. Look down, we beseech thee, oh Lord, on our prayers and the oblations of thy faithful that they may be pleasing to thee on the festival of thy saints and may obtain for us the aid of thy mercy through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface, just it is indeed and fitting right in for our salvation that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, oh, holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God. Through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, The powers stand in awe.
• 8:09
The heavens and the hosts of heaven, together with the blessed Seraphim, joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
• 8:46
Hosanna in the highest. The Communion That which I tell you in the dark, speak ye in the light, saith the Lord and that which you hear in the ear, preach ye upon the housetops. The post communion. Let us pray. We beseech thee, O Almighty God, that as thou dost deign to bestow on us heavenly gifts, so thou wouldst, through the intercession of thy saints, Cyril and Methodius, grant us grace to despise earthly things through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
