- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Today we talk to Hollywood's biggest robot creators animatronics.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Animatronics or mechanical puppetry popularized by movies like Star Wars,
- 0:19Speaker 3: Et and a bunch of other flicks from that time.
- 0:23Speaker 3: They are puppets or figures that enapl and use the
- 0:28Speaker 3: use of roboticry and sometimes even artificial intelligence.
- 0:33Speaker 4: So put your hand in a sock and play along.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Let's listen in.
- 0:39Speaker 5: Wow, what a great crew we have here.
- 0:42Speaker 6: This is fantastic. Y'all are said my favorite animatronic people.
- 0:47Speaker 6: It's great to see y'all.
- 0:49Speaker 7: Well, be careful, we're not animatronic people. We are people
- 0:53Speaker 7: who work in animatronics.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I like the word artists very.
- 0:58Speaker 8: Very because innomatronic people are the people we create.
- 1:01Speaker 5: Yes, yes, exactly, yes.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Oh should we go around and say our names?
- 1:07Speaker 6: I would love that go around. Yeah, Well I'll start.
- 1:10Speaker 6: My name is TJ.
- 1:11Speaker 5: Thibodeau.
- 1:12Speaker 6: I am an animatronic worker and I worked on those
- 1:16Speaker 6: hot animatronics down at Avatar World in Disney World. I've
- 1:21Speaker 6: worked on a lot of animatronics for Disney in the past,
- 1:24Speaker 6: and my recent most recent project was those beautiful, beautiful
- 1:28Speaker 6: aid blue alien creatures from Avatar.
- 1:35Speaker 8: Hello.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Hello, I'm Donnie Jones, and I make animatronics that are
- 1:42Speaker 4: a little unexpected. You may not even know that they
- 1:45Speaker 4: are animatronics, but you know when a mother is holding
- 1:49Speaker 4: a baby and the baby is too young to be
- 1:53Speaker 4: an actor, that is what I do. I make it
- 1:56Speaker 4: so that the blanket wriggles around a little bit. So
- 1:59Speaker 4: myronics are little, itty bitty babies.
- 2:03Speaker 1: A really important line of work. Dottie.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Hi, my name is Buster Reverend, and I built the
- 2:12Speaker 2: one and only.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Shark in Jaws. Haven't been hired since.
- 2:19Speaker 8: It's really wonderful to meet you.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Been in the business a long time, but been on
- 2:25Speaker 2: a really long hiatus.
- 2:28Speaker 5: Do you feel like you are a one hit wonder?
- 2:30Speaker 4: Do you feel like you have more in store?
- 2:32Speaker 1: I don't use that word in my household. H My
- 2:35Speaker 1: ex wife sure does.
- 2:39Speaker 8: She is still in your household.
- 2:41Speaker 5: Yeah, the bitch won't leave.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I'm really excited to get to talking to you guys,
- 2:49Speaker 2: because I believe our industry changes every month. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 2:53Speaker 2: I'm very much of the old school animatronics, and I'm
- 2:57Speaker 2: really trying to get back in there and see what's
- 3:01Speaker 2: going on now with you, youngins.
- 3:03Speaker 7: Well, I cannot wait to tell you about it. My
- 3:05Speaker 7: name is Noah Viktrolla. I work on animals. I work
- 3:09Speaker 7: on all sorts of animals in Harry Potter and many
- 3:12Speaker 7: other areas. Animals that come in that are made of
- 3:15Speaker 7: robots and I make them. I love animals and it's
- 3:18Speaker 7: very fun for me. I like to make feathers on robots.
- 3:22Speaker 7: I like to put different types of things around, and
- 3:25Speaker 7: that's what I do. So when you see an owl,
- 3:28Speaker 7: it might not be an owl, it might actually be
- 3:30Speaker 7: an animal.
- 3:32Speaker 8: I mean it might misspoke.
- 3:37Speaker 7: I never misspeak. I usually am very precise with my words.
- 3:40Speaker 7: I must be really nervous because a lot of people
- 3:43Speaker 7: around here.
- 3:43Speaker 8: Are my heroes.
- 3:45Speaker 5: Oh wow, that's so sweet.
- 3:46Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 3:46Speaker 7: I started in my garage and to be here with
- 3:50Speaker 7: some pros, I am stunned and honored. I meant that
- 3:55Speaker 7: sometimes it's not an animal, sometimes it is a robot
- 3:58Speaker 7: or an animatronic being.
- 4:01Speaker 9: Thank you greetings. My name is Jeffrey Funk. You might
- 4:09Speaker 9: know my work. I've been working in anmatronics for thirty years.
- 4:13Speaker 9: I've worked on Healthscape, Healthscape two, No Escape and of
- 4:17Speaker 9: course we bought a zoo.
- 4:20Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, I just to hear that you worked
- 4:23Speaker 6: out we bought a zoo.
- 4:24Speaker 9: It was it was my magnum opus.
- 4:27Speaker 7: You could say that is one of the reasons why
- 4:30Speaker 7: I am so stunned to be here today, because your
- 4:32Speaker 7: work and we bought a zoo is the reason I
- 4:35Speaker 7: am doing what I am doing.
- 4:36Speaker 1: What we worked together, you did, h Evan Almighty, right,
- 4:40Speaker 1: we both do.
- 4:40Speaker 8: We both do animals.
- 4:41Speaker 9: That's right, you.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Did Evan Almighty and Bruce Almighty too.
- 4:44Speaker 9: I did do those. Yeah.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yes, what your work, your anthology of stuff is just
- 4:49Speaker 2: your your work is it's so.
- 4:50Speaker 9: It's that's seen in Bruce Almighty. Yeah. When Jennifer Aniston's.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Breasts, Yes, how did you make the breast?
- 5:00Speaker 5: How did he make those breasts grown?
- 5:01Speaker 9: You'd think they would have used c g I, but no,
- 5:05Speaker 9: those were robotic breasts. That is incrediblely taped hers down,
- 5:11Speaker 9: put robotic breasts over and they had several types of
- 5:17Speaker 9: pistons on the insides, in fact, upwards of a hundred
- 5:22Speaker 9: on each breast, and they expanded. I heard the noise
- 5:25Speaker 9: was unbearable, absolutely excruciating.
- 5:29Speaker 1: That is the work I'm trying to get into.
- 5:31Speaker 9: That's right.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I heard it sounded like the Jaws of Life.
- 5:34Speaker 9: It I know a thing or two about the chance
- 5:37Speaker 9: of life.
- 5:38Speaker 7: I also heard that you and Bruce Almighty were responsible
- 5:42Speaker 7: for the scene where the monkey ripped its way out
- 5:44Speaker 7: of someone's asshole.
- 5:48Speaker 6: That is also, God, I can't believe that was animatronics.
- 5:53Speaker 4: You.
- 5:54Speaker 5: So you made boobs and an assho.
- 5:57Speaker 1: What a dream?
- 5:58Speaker 4: What a dream job.
- 6:00Speaker 5: To make boobs and an asshole?
- 6:02Speaker 1: This is why we do this. We're over here talking
- 6:06Speaker 1: about fishes and babies.
- 6:09Speaker 6: You're doing the real stuff, the stuff we're all trying
- 6:12Speaker 6: to get into.
- 6:13Speaker 9: The Green Berets of animatronics.
- 6:15Speaker 6: Absolutely, you are like the heroes. You're not the Navy Seals,
- 6:20Speaker 6: the Green Berets.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Specific I have, I have.
- 6:23Speaker 7: A poster of you in my uh well, it wasn't
- 6:26Speaker 7: my room, and then I moved into.
- 6:28Speaker 5: My bathroom, okay, of which myself.
- 6:32Speaker 7: Yes, of you, standing next to of course the asshole and.
- 6:36Speaker 9: The absolutely shredded they do. It was a massive marketing
- 6:42Speaker 9: strategy only in Ohio.
- 6:45Speaker 8: It was come for gym, stay for the ass.
- 6:47Speaker 6: So I got a question about that. Was it a
- 6:49Speaker 6: real monkey, animatronic asshole? Animatronic asshole. Animatronic monkey, Yeah, what
- 6:54Speaker 6: was real?
- 6:54Speaker 5: What was built? Because I cannot tell watching that movie
- 6:57Speaker 5: it was.
- 6:57Speaker 9: An animatronic asshole in both However, we did use a
- 7:01Speaker 9: real monkey first. It unfortunately did not.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Make it got caught in the asshole a classic asshole.
- 7:12Speaker 9: Closed.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Absolutely, that's a really good topic of conversation to talk
- 7:17Speaker 2: about when your robot out does some of the abilities
- 7:22Speaker 2: that the humans on set can do, right, when we
- 7:24Speaker 2: build unsafe environments almost and it's it's safety, i'd say,
- 7:29Speaker 2: is a huge part of animatronics, and it has been
- 7:31Speaker 2: since the eighties very important.
- 7:33Speaker 7: Well, some people here work in films, some people here
- 7:36Speaker 7: working in parks, right, so who all has.
- 7:39Speaker 8: Worked in parts? You have worked in parks.
- 7:41Speaker 5: I've worked in park You worked in parks as well well.
- 7:44Speaker 9: Tangentially, I pioneered a type of device software for animatronics
- 7:52Speaker 9: to feel pain, and they've actually used that in the
- 7:55Speaker 9: animatronics in the whole of Presidents. Every single one of
- 7:58Speaker 9: the presidents in disney Land feels pine.
- 8:01Speaker 6: And this is really interesting because I work with Disney
- 8:03Speaker 6: a lot, and this is a debate we have all
- 8:06Speaker 6: the time. Why did we install this? Why did we
- 8:09Speaker 6: make an animatronic feel pain. It's we're we're really tiptoeing
- 8:13Speaker 6: the light of what it needs to be humid and
- 8:15Speaker 6: what it needs to be a Ralebut the pain.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Is it is it? Is it emotional or is it physical?
- 8:21Speaker 9: Oh, it's like a mix of bones.
- 8:23Speaker 5: It's holy shit.
- 8:25Speaker 9: People want to say something real? Is what we've discovered
- 8:28Speaker 9: because I've walked.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Into the hollow presidents and I've never looked at the
- 8:31Speaker 4: presidents as physically in pain in any way. So is
- 8:35Speaker 4: it just to give them an internal life that that
- 8:37Speaker 4: we're not aware of.
- 8:38Speaker 9: What's fascinating is the software to experience Pine is moving
- 8:42Speaker 9: faster than the software to have the animatronics express it.
- 8:46Speaker 9: They're feeling that they're simply trapped in their own animatronic
- 8:52Speaker 9: deeply haunting?
- 8:53Speaker 5: Do you feel as an artist, Marsh?
- 8:55Speaker 2: Do you feel as an artist a lot of uh,
- 8:58Speaker 2: just shame in making things feel pain?
- 9:02Speaker 9: Absolutely not buster.
- 9:03Speaker 7: I wanted to mention too that I heard that in
- 9:06Speaker 7: the Haunted Mansion they actually made all the ghosts crave
- 9:11Speaker 7: human bodies like their food, right, so they want so
- 9:15Speaker 7: it looks like they want to be in the bodies.
- 9:18Speaker 8: Is that really?
- 9:18Speaker 9: Absolutely? I've heard that's absolutely true. That is crazy, and
- 9:22Speaker 9: that's why the experience feels so real. It's silly, but
- 9:26Speaker 9: you're actually in danger.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Can you locate the place of pain that the robot
- 9:31Speaker 2: is feeling.
- 9:31Speaker 9: Well, it depends on which president or animatronic. In the
- 9:35Speaker 9: case of Abraham Lincoln, he's feeling an explosive pain in
- 9:38Speaker 9: the back of his head at all times. That's to
- 9:41Speaker 9: make the experience real and to in a sense, give
- 9:46Speaker 9: him life after his excruciating death.
- 9:49Speaker 8: I heard George W. Bush feels the pain in his heart.
- 9:53Speaker 9: I don't know that's true.
- 9:54Speaker 5: Well, I see, I think George W.
- 9:56Speaker 9: Bush. I think.
- 9:59Speaker 5: George you Bush.
- 10:00Speaker 6: The real person doesn't feel pain, but the end of
- 10:03Speaker 6: a tronic.
- 10:04Speaker 2: And that's where the artist becomes an artist. No, you
- 10:07Speaker 2: wanted to make that a reality.
- 10:08Speaker 9: And obviously what point does this become voodoo dolls?
- 10:13Speaker 6: Well, that's also a very good question for it for
- 10:15Speaker 6: our you know, whole career. I mean, what point is
- 10:18Speaker 6: this voodoo? What point is this making other lives? What
- 10:22Speaker 6: point are we put put putting ourselves and crossing the line.
- 10:25Speaker 4: You know, if there's an idea that we are trying
- 10:27Speaker 4: to play god by baking puppets.
- 10:29Speaker 1: I don't think that's what we're doing.
- 10:30Speaker 9: I do not.
- 10:31Speaker 4: I think we're trying to make a movie.
- 10:33Speaker 7: I think what is frustrating to me is the idea
- 10:35Speaker 7: of uncanny value. I think it has it has stuck
- 10:38Speaker 7: us in so many corners and people saying, oh, this
- 10:40Speaker 7: is a little too close to real life. Oh this
- 10:43Speaker 7: is freaking me out, and that is inappropriate, and that
- 10:45Speaker 7: is wrong, and I.
- 10:46Speaker 8: Do not like that.
- 10:46Speaker 7: Yes, I think if something is weird and it's a
- 10:49Speaker 7: human being doing something weird, if a human being is
- 10:52Speaker 7: taking a dump in the middle of the street, I
- 10:53Speaker 7: don't freak out. I say that's somebody doing something weird.
- 10:57Speaker 7: So if there is a robot that it's weird to you,
- 11:00Speaker 7: then you need to leave that alone because that is
- 11:02Speaker 7: just like.
- 11:03Speaker 8: Just like an even take a dump in the street,
- 11:04Speaker 8: it's its home thing.
- 11:06Speaker 6: So somebody takes a w the street, you're not calling anybody,
- 11:10Speaker 6: or you're definitely freaking out, like.
- 11:11Speaker 8: The way people freak out when they come into my bedroom.
- 11:14Speaker 1: But why did they freak outcause of.
- 11:16Speaker 7: The keep in there? Because of the animals, the creatures.
- 11:19Speaker 7: I have a creature from pants Labyrinth in there.
- 11:20Speaker 8: I have a creature. I have one of those little
- 11:24Speaker 8: plant goblins.
- 11:26Speaker 6: Yeah, those are very terrify They scream, right those.
- 11:30Speaker 7: They scream the man drinks, Yeah, those are and those
- 11:33Speaker 7: are right above my bed like a like a mobile
- 11:35Speaker 7: from babies.
- 11:36Speaker 9: And so pink will come into your bed room coming.
- 11:40Speaker 8: To while my mother. My mother comes into my bedroom.
- 11:44Speaker 8: She gets so mad at me. No, it's my mother.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I'll just say that's out. Remind I'm so sorry to me.
- 11:51Speaker 7: It's okay, it's okay. She comes in, she freaks out.
- 11:54Speaker 7: She doesn't like some of the things that I do.
- 11:56Speaker 7: And I brought in somebody too that I kissed her
- 11:59Speaker 7: on the lips in my room.
- 12:02Speaker 4: So you kissed her on the lips and then and
- 12:04Speaker 4: then what happened immediately following the kiss? Did you hang
- 12:07Speaker 4: out for a while or did did she leave?
- 12:09Speaker 8: My et fell over and she freaked out and she
- 12:12Speaker 8: ran out.
- 12:14Speaker 6: That's actually segues me into a really interesting question that
- 12:17Speaker 6: I that I've been thinking about a lot for this panel,
- 12:22Speaker 6: was have you also has everybody else also experienced their
- 12:27Speaker 6: animatronics doing weird things that you didn't tell them to do,
- 12:31Speaker 6: kind of like ghosts or just talking.
- 12:34Speaker 4: I will say my babies. My babies have while I've
- 12:37Speaker 4: not programmed them to do anything, and I insist that
- 12:40Speaker 4: I've never seen it, and I because I haven't. And
- 12:44Speaker 4: I will say that the actresses playing the mothers who
- 12:47Speaker 4: hold the babies have a history of going insane and
- 12:52Speaker 4: really report they report, but this is completely inaccurate. I
- 12:56Speaker 4: know that they are just getting really deeply into the role.
- 12:58Speaker 4: But they report after holding the baby, feelings of the
- 13:02Speaker 4: baby won't leave me alone, the baby.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Wants to come home with me.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Printed on me.
- 13:09Speaker 5: I'm going insane.
- 13:10Speaker 4: And actors are just crazy like actors.
- 13:14Speaker 5: I wish they would not be in I wish they
- 13:16Speaker 5: were animatronics.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I think they're overpaid.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Number one, Number two, they have too many dang rights.
- 13:23Speaker 6: Yes, yes, that's crazy about the baby thing, and I
- 13:27Speaker 6: don't think that's true. And I don't think we should
- 13:28Speaker 6: believe the actors, you know, but I do like that story.
- 13:32Speaker 6: Have you have you ever lifted up the baby and
- 13:34Speaker 6: felt anything like that?
- 13:35Speaker 4: Oh, I don't lift the babies. I absolutely don't lift
- 13:38Speaker 4: the babies because I'm not a mother and I'm not
- 13:40Speaker 4: playing a mother, so I couldn't possibly be trusted to
- 13:43Speaker 4: lift the baby.
- 13:44Speaker 9: Any Do you lift the babies in the process of
- 13:47Speaker 9: designing them.
- 13:48Speaker 4: No, I use my feet on purpose so that I
- 13:51Speaker 4: know you have to feel the feeling of holding a
- 13:54Speaker 4: baby in my mother's arm, in a mother's arms, as
- 13:57Speaker 4: if I were a mother.
- 13:57Speaker 8: You build those babies with your feet.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Buried dexterous toes.
- 14:01Speaker 9: That's a method I.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Have to separate the art from the artist. And a
- 14:05Speaker 4: baby is so inherently tied to mother that if I
- 14:09Speaker 4: build the mother with if I build the baby with
- 14:11Speaker 4: my hands, I become mother. I don't want to be mother.
- 14:14Speaker 4: I never want to be mother. I want to be childless.
- 14:16Speaker 4: I want to be able to go to the beach
- 14:18Speaker 4: without hiring a babysitter.
- 14:21Speaker 1: And you using your feet. Is that separation?
- 14:25Speaker 4: Yes, it creates a wall between the baby. Do you
- 14:28Speaker 4: between the baby and the mother?
- 14:30Speaker 5: Listen?
- 14:31Speaker 4: Does anyone else feel that the products they create, do
- 14:34Speaker 4: they feel a maternal attachment to them or are they
- 14:36Speaker 4: able to separate it?
- 14:38Speaker 6: Well, I'll say it's not necessarily maternal for the people
- 14:41Speaker 6: Dad in Avatar world. For me, you know, that's pretty
- 14:46Speaker 6: crazy experiences with my avatar people.
- 14:50Speaker 5: You know, the other day I was dad.
- 14:51Speaker 6: There is late at night and all of a sudden,
- 14:53Speaker 6: one of the navvy turned on and start saying these weird.
- 14:57Speaker 5: Stuff, you know, like an optatium.
- 15:00Speaker 6: We got to get back to our planet, Jake Sully
- 15:04Speaker 6: and I go, no, I'm TJ And then they say
- 15:06Speaker 6: you are Jake Sully. And then the hair starts coming
- 15:11Speaker 6: off and the tails start wagging at me, and I'm like,
- 15:15Speaker 6: I think these I think these navi are trying to
- 15:17Speaker 6: fuck me.
- 15:18Speaker 5: I think these Navi are trying to fuck me.
- 15:20Speaker 9: So that's something you put into the design.
- 15:23Speaker 6: Lightly, lightly as a wild card. Yeah, I mean we
- 15:26Speaker 6: all throw in wild cards into our designs, just a
- 15:29Speaker 6: little inside jokes and I just add a little bit
- 15:31Speaker 6: of thing where maybe ten percent more they want to
- 15:35Speaker 6: fuck you.
- 15:36Speaker 4: I don't know, like putting inside jokes into our slipping
- 15:41Speaker 4: I slipping a single peanut into the baby and because
- 15:44Speaker 4: that's an inside joke I have with my.
- 15:46Speaker 6: Sister, that's a good inside joke that could ruin them
- 15:49Speaker 6: inside machinery. But if you want there's one little peanut
- 15:52Speaker 6: in there, that's great.
- 15:55Speaker 8: I would love to know what the inside joke.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Get it.
- 15:58Speaker 4: You probably won't get it because its ide joke. But
- 16:01Speaker 4: my sister and I were at the Dodger game, and
- 16:04Speaker 4: we are were in the loade section, and we thought
- 16:06Speaker 4: that we were gonna get a foul ball. We thought
- 16:08Speaker 4: a foul ball was coming towards us. We thought we
- 16:10Speaker 4: might be able to catch it. And then at the
- 16:12Speaker 4: exact moment, a guy got hit in the head with
- 16:14Speaker 4: a peanut. And so now we keep looking at each
- 16:17Speaker 4: other and we say peanut, and so we'll hide peanuts
- 16:20Speaker 4: at certain places.
- 16:22Speaker 5: That seems pretty easy to understand.
- 16:24Speaker 4: No, you wouldn't get you had to be there.
- 16:27Speaker 9: Absolutely fascinating.
- 16:31Speaker 8: Does that? Does that rock the animatron?
- 16:36Speaker 9: It's programming at all, It's shelved.
- 16:38Speaker 5: It's shelved.
- 16:39Speaker 4: So I and I make sure to put it far
- 16:41Speaker 4: away from the battery and far away from the you know,
- 16:43Speaker 4: the control system that makes it move. I sort of
- 16:47Speaker 4: just strap it to the baby's chest like a little ball.
- 16:51Speaker 5: Oh wow, like a little bomb, like.
- 16:53Speaker 1: A little bomb, like a little bob.
- 16:56Speaker 9: Classically the only thing you can strap to something.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Yeah, you have to be careful though, with food and animatronics.
- 17:03Speaker 2: I took some freelance work recently at the Rainforest Cafe,
- 17:10Speaker 2: and yeah, we had to build some cockatoos.
- 17:14Speaker 8: And worked very extensive with the Rainforest Cafe.
- 17:16Speaker 7: Yeah, I had to replace a gorilla because the fizz
- 17:20Speaker 7: from the Coca colas would get in the air and
- 17:24Speaker 7: it was corroding.
- 17:25Speaker 2: That is exactly what happened to the cockatoos. And they're
- 17:28Speaker 2: just a revolving door with animatronic artists. They will not
- 17:32Speaker 2: keep one in house.
- 17:33Speaker 5: Knows people.
- 17:34Speaker 7: They wheel us and they deal us, they use us
- 17:37Speaker 7: up and they throw us out.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Well, I heard the rate for that is like one
- 17:42Speaker 4: hundred dollars a week or something.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Oh, it's not good, my.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Reps bum me up to one hundred and fifty. What
- 17:49Speaker 2: are you doing as a day rate for the rainforest?
- 17:51Speaker 7: I was paid twenty five dollars per animal and I
- 17:56Speaker 7: worked on twenty five animals.
- 17:58Speaker 9: Wow, how many animals was you putting? In full? Each animal?
- 18:02Speaker 8: Twelve to eighteen?
- 18:05Speaker 9: You're being paid with since only our.
- 18:10Speaker 8: Yes, But that was all during one week, so it
- 18:12Speaker 8: was a good rate.
- 18:15Speaker 1: And they feed you. They feed you because I was
- 18:18Speaker 1: build building a house.
- 18:19Speaker 7: Were you I was building a house. I was building
- 18:21Speaker 7: right next to the dining it was open.
- 18:23Speaker 2: I had oriol milkshake after Orio milkshake after o milkshakes.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Are you allowed to eat other things or did you
- 18:29Speaker 4: choose that?
- 18:30Speaker 1: I'm a milkshake man through and through.
- 18:32Speaker 8: I had the Tiger Burger for breakfast lunch.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Are you guys on set when you're working or are
- 18:39Speaker 2: you just a prep day and a wrap day?
- 18:42Speaker 6: Well, for me, I'm not really I'd said as much.
- 18:44Speaker 6: I'm kind of just in the studio and on the rides,
- 18:47Speaker 6: kind of working on the nave. They are an exceptional
- 18:50Speaker 6: race of alien and they are an exceptional creature.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Well, how often are you at the park?
- 18:55Speaker 6: I'm at the park all the time. Honestly, there's something
- 18:58Speaker 6: that draws me in. You have to go and checked
- 19:00Speaker 6: up on the navvy and see how they're doing. And
- 19:02Speaker 6: now it's almost the situation where I've got some crazy ideas,
- 19:07Speaker 6: you know, about where they actually belong?
- 19:11Speaker 8: Now where do they?
- 19:12Speaker 1: Where?
- 19:13Speaker 5: Is that I don't belong a dizzy there?
- 19:15Speaker 6: Let me tell you that much I tend to agree
- 19:18Speaker 6: on you, for agree would be there.
- 19:20Speaker 9: Of course, on we bought a zoo. Now a lot
- 19:25Speaker 9: of animatronics have reached a point of advancement that they
- 19:28Speaker 9: are free roaming in a sense that they're not brought
- 19:32Speaker 9: in by a truck or something. We have them in
- 19:35Speaker 9: a storage area. They walk themselves to set, obviously with
- 19:39Speaker 9: a wrangler such as myself, and they are there, and
- 19:43Speaker 9: they might wander off if not carefully paid attention to.
- 19:48Speaker 9: And in fact, on we bought a zoo. They had
- 19:51Speaker 9: such independence that when I found out that they were
- 19:55Speaker 9: going to be cgiing over all of the shots of
- 19:59Speaker 9: these animatronic animals, I decided to take it within my
- 20:02Speaker 9: own hands to release them onto the set and out
- 20:06Speaker 9: of it. All of those animatronic animals were unleashed onto
- 20:11Speaker 9: society and are now out well. I've heard some reports
- 20:17Speaker 9: of there was a rhinoceros that absolutely terrorized ah wah wah.
- 20:23Speaker 5: I heard about that. Yeah, that was really.
- 20:29Speaker 9: And got away, absolutely and it got away. So some
- 20:35Speaker 9: of them are out there. The Giraft did not make it.
- 20:38Speaker 9: It was shot on set. They got it right on
- 20:41Speaker 9: the motherboard, so it did die.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Was the studio? Did they take legal action with you?
- 20:46Speaker 2: Did you have any repercussions?
- 20:47Speaker 9: Absolutely not. They were so horrified by the existential reality
- 20:51Speaker 9: of what was happening that nobody there even wanted to
- 20:55Speaker 9: discuss it afterwards.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Wow.
- 20:56Speaker 8: I followed this closely.
- 20:58Speaker 7: It was a very, very very intense week for upstate
- 21:00Speaker 7: New York and it ended when it rained.
- 21:04Speaker 6: That is unfortunately every antron is right correct.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Let's let's talk about it. Let's talk about the elephant
- 21:12Speaker 2: in the room.
- 21:13Speaker 5: What's you well.
- 21:17Speaker 9: At that's never been done again?
- 21:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and I can't figure out how I did.
- 21:29Speaker 2: That's why, that's why I cannot get fucking hired again,
- 21:34Speaker 2: because people ask.
- 21:34Speaker 4: You how did you make the shark from Jaws? And
- 21:37Speaker 4: you say, I don't.
- 21:38Speaker 9: Know, just like Stephen King with Kujo.
- 21:40Speaker 1: One hundred percent?
- 21:41Speaker 5: Do you guys?
- 21:42Speaker 1: You guys know those hours that you're.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Spending in your studio or your garage or whatever, and
- 21:47Speaker 2: you're building and at some point, this is back in
- 21:49Speaker 2: the day when animatronics.
- 21:51Speaker 1: We were just carving the field.
- 21:53Speaker 2: We did not know it was our Our head was
- 21:56Speaker 2: in a dark asshole.
- 21:58Speaker 1: We couldn't see left from right time.
- 22:01Speaker 6: A monkey, Yeah, a monkey, it's like the first, the
- 22:06Speaker 6: real monkey, the real one.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:08Speaker 2: And I mean when you were when you are trying
- 22:10Speaker 2: thing after thing after thing, you don't know what you tried.
- 22:13Speaker 2: So all of a sudden, it's four a m You're
- 22:16Speaker 2: going through it, and that jaw moves and that fucking
- 22:21Speaker 2: shark makes a move.
- 22:23Speaker 1: You are filled with so much joy. You don't remember
- 22:26Speaker 1: what you did?
- 22:27Speaker 5: You just go take this to set. Take this to
- 22:30Speaker 5: set right now.
- 22:32Speaker 1: And they took it to set.
- 22:34Speaker 6: I called, uh, yeah, I just asked your question was
- 22:39Speaker 6: where you were working on the That was a different
- 22:41Speaker 6: field of water than set.
- 22:42Speaker 5: You weren't working on the.
- 22:43Speaker 1: So I was on the Universal lot.
- 22:46Speaker 2: They gave me a studio there to build, and we
- 22:48Speaker 2: had a little pool and I built this thing in
- 22:51Speaker 2: the water and it was working. And I don't remember
- 22:54Speaker 2: if it was the Blue Cord or the Grand Cord.
- 22:58Speaker 4: I don't remember made the fish.
- 23:01Speaker 2: I don't remember what I did. And I used to
- 23:03Speaker 2: be very ashamed that I don't remember. But now I
- 23:06Speaker 2: have to lead with it because I get hired and
- 23:07Speaker 2: they say, can you build this in the in the water?
- 23:10Speaker 2: The fining Nemo ride at Disneyland. They brought me in
- 23:13Speaker 2: and I said, guys, my hands are tied. I'm gonna
- 23:17Speaker 2: need weeks to figure this.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Do you get hired and then subsequently fired? And so
- 23:23Speaker 4: you've been you've been doing this for about forty years,
- 23:26Speaker 4: a bit of not actually being able to do the job.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I take freelance work. Rainforest Cafe, oh right, right, right right.
- 23:33Speaker 2: There was a week where the Bob's The Bob's Big
- 23:36Speaker 2: Boy Burger Guy.
- 23:37Speaker 1: They wanted him to move.
- 23:38Speaker 8: I was one of the most exciting weeks.
- 23:39Speaker 5: Somebody the best weeks I've ever had.
- 23:42Speaker 8: That was an incredible week.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I think we all interviewed for the position.
- 23:45Speaker 5: That was so just for that one week they got
- 23:47Speaker 5: him to move.
- 23:47Speaker 8: I did anyone's interview though. Remember remember we had to
- 23:50Speaker 8: do it by all the classic cars.
- 23:52Speaker 7: Yeah, oh my goodness, that was very exciting. I had
- 23:56Speaker 7: to sit in a model T And I can tell
- 23:58Speaker 7: them what I would make by Big Boy do if
- 24:01Speaker 7: he could come alive.
- 24:02Speaker 5: What did you say?
- 24:03Speaker 7: I said he would play cards, folkard that's funny.
- 24:07Speaker 5: So he'd sit down and play cards, and.
- 24:08Speaker 8: He would always look like he had something mischievous of
- 24:11Speaker 8: his hand. He had a nice card of his sleeve.
- 24:15Speaker 9: A small wing to might bring in extra revenue for
- 24:18Speaker 9: Bo's Big Boy. Have him win every time.
- 24:20Speaker 8: Beat the Big Boy. It would be a whole It
- 24:21Speaker 8: would be a whole gate.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Beat the Big Boy, beat beat that was me and
- 24:25Speaker 2: that Jaws shark beat the Big Boy. Okay, let's talk
- 24:30Speaker 2: about it. Do you guys have successful romantic lives here?
- 24:34Speaker 4: Did?
- 24:34Speaker 2: Let's talk about it because I find that as a
- 24:36Speaker 2: man who's been building machines, it's hard for me to
- 24:39Speaker 2: get out there. My ex wife was just terrified. And
- 24:42Speaker 2: it sounds like.
- 24:43Speaker 1: You've been trying to kiss women on the mouth and
- 24:46Speaker 1: it's hard.
- 24:46Speaker 8: I did not say it was hard. I said it
- 24:48Speaker 8: did happen.
- 24:49Speaker 7: It was easy for me to kiss her because we
- 24:51Speaker 7: had strong feelings for each other at the time, but
- 24:53Speaker 7: it was hard.
- 24:54Speaker 1: For you to keep that relationship going because you're et
- 24:56Speaker 1: fell on top of.
- 24:56Speaker 7: Features in my room. I would say, I actually a
- 24:59Speaker 7: very very good on dates, and I would say I
- 25:02Speaker 7: can't keep women, men, anyone off of me.
- 25:05Speaker 8: They're very interested in me. They love me. They I
- 25:09Speaker 8: do not know what it is.
- 25:10Speaker 7: I do not want to know what I give off,
- 25:12Speaker 7: but I have been told is raw animal sexuality. And
- 25:16Speaker 7: when I do try to make things happen and I
- 25:19Speaker 7: take them back to my room, that is kind of
- 25:22Speaker 7: an issue. I would also say, if we don't go
- 25:25Speaker 7: to my room and we go to their house, it
- 25:28Speaker 7: goes very well. So the problem is when do I
- 25:31Speaker 7: had let them in?
- 25:32Speaker 1: It's your job.
- 25:33Speaker 9: Yeah, have you considered moving? No?
- 25:40Speaker 4: Because you you I would imagine that you're working a lot,
- 25:43Speaker 4: you have disposable income, you want to stay with mother?
- 25:46Speaker 8: Oh my gosh, I could move. Thank you, it took.
- 25:52Speaker 8: That's all I needed.
- 25:53Speaker 5: It took.
- 25:54Speaker 8: I have not thought about that. Thank you so much.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I will leave.
- 25:57Speaker 9: As animatronic makers, we have to be innovatives. We have
- 26:00Speaker 9: to earns.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Sometimes you could be caught in a in a mental
- 26:04Speaker 4: loop of oh oh, it has to work like this.
- 26:05Speaker 4: It has to work like this, and that's the key
- 26:07Speaker 4: to problem solving. Sometimes it takes one person to walk
- 26:09Speaker 4: in here and go, no, the baby should have two
- 26:12Speaker 4: arms instead of none.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Oh do you guys collaborate?
- 26:16Speaker 6: Who gave you? That's what? Where were you that you
- 26:20Speaker 6: didn't realize the baby?
- 26:22Speaker 4: I'm so glad you asked. It was a fantastic director.
- 26:26Speaker 4: I was doing a spot for Arby's and there's supposed
- 26:29Speaker 4: to be a mother holding a baby ordering an Arby's sandwich,
- 26:33Speaker 4: and I didn't think it.
- 26:36Speaker 8: It didn't even.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Cross my mind that the baby would have arms. You
- 26:39Speaker 4: know what I mean, because it's in a blanket. Why
- 26:43Speaker 4: I it just like, you know, when you're so locked
- 26:47Speaker 4: in on something you can't you can't break out of it.
- 26:52Speaker 4: Until this director walked up and said why the fuck
- 26:55Speaker 4: are there's no arms in this baby? And then I thought,
- 26:58Speaker 4: oh my god, that's the key to the prom Did
- 27:00Speaker 4: you work.
- 27:00Speaker 8: With the person who made the baby for Twilight?
- 27:03Speaker 2: Yes, what an.
- 27:06Speaker 9: Amazing I thought it was, And I could not believe
- 27:09Speaker 9: it was that the same baby as American Sniper.
- 27:13Speaker 1: That, yes, that's the same.
- 27:15Speaker 4: That's the same animatronic actor of repurposed. And we do
- 27:19Speaker 4: call the baby's actors, we do.
- 27:24Speaker 8: Yes, So baby has had a lot of work on servant.
- 27:30Speaker 4: So that's actually my My sister does all the all
- 27:35Speaker 4: the sort of the babies with sinister energy, so in
- 27:39Speaker 4: all the horror movies, and that she did the Rosemary's Baby.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Does she do it with her feet too?
- 27:46Speaker 9: Does she work on baby geniuses and baby geniuses too?
- 27:50Speaker 5: Gets a question, are the baby sinister in those movies?
- 27:54Speaker 5: Those babies?
- 27:54Speaker 4: Well, she worked on it. So yes, I mean we
- 27:57Speaker 4: we are. I mean I should explain we're identical twins
- 28:00Speaker 4: raised in the exact set of circumstances. Scientifically, a doctor
- 28:03Speaker 4: made it so that we were part of a study.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Anyway, It's like.
- 28:08Speaker 5: Great, yeah, and you make babies with feet.
- 28:11Speaker 4: We make babies with our feet. We have lived our
- 28:13Speaker 4: lives in the exact same conditions except for one thing.
- 28:16Speaker 4: She does the sinister babies in Hollywood, and I do
- 28:19Speaker 4: the regular babies, the more lighthearted babies the commercial spots usually.
- 28:23Speaker 4: Did the study end, No, I don't think it can.
- 28:31Speaker 1: What you mean, you don't think it can I don't
- 28:36Speaker 1: think it can end.
- 28:37Speaker 4: I don't think it can end until they figure out
- 28:39Speaker 4: what's going on with woods. They have to like they
- 28:43Speaker 4: have not nailed down as a society. Because I do
- 28:46Speaker 4: ask the scientists that are weekly checkets. I asked, you know,
- 28:51Speaker 4: what is this for.
- 28:55Speaker 5: It's weekly jackets, right.
- 28:56Speaker 4: It's weekly jackets. But we do video diaries day and
- 29:00Speaker 4: everything like that.
- 29:02Speaker 5: But he said, what is this.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Forn He said, you'll find out when you're older, and
- 29:05Speaker 4: I said, well, I'm fifty three.
- 29:07Speaker 5: When when you?
- 29:09Speaker 4: I can't change a lot of these psychology tests they
- 29:14Speaker 4: end when the babies are adults. It's like you you you,
- 29:17Speaker 4: It's like a child psychology feature versus nurture. It's it's
- 29:21Speaker 4: usually that sort of thing. No, this one seems like
- 29:23Speaker 4: it's a forever one. So it'll be interesting to see
- 29:26Speaker 4: what they find out about twins.
- 29:28Speaker 8: The scientists they're not getting older.
- 29:34Speaker 6: Overall scientists or is it just it's like a it's
- 29:39Speaker 6: like a great.
- 29:40Speaker 9: Scientists every time you check in.
- 29:42Speaker 4: You know, I've never thought about how they look a
- 29:46Speaker 4: little bit different every time. But they they they use
- 29:49Speaker 4: the same names. They say, Hi, I'm Charles, like you
- 29:53Speaker 4: know me from before. I am Tim you know me
- 29:56Speaker 4: from before. But sometimes their face looks a little bit different,
- 30:01Speaker 4: and you know, I never clocked I never clocked that.
- 30:03Speaker 1: But maybe they're different men.
- 30:06Speaker 5: Well, it just takes one person to walk it to
- 30:08Speaker 5: your life and introduce you're out.
- 30:14Speaker 1: What's going on? Incredible?
- 30:17Speaker 4: Okay, how did everyone get into animatronics?
- 30:21Speaker 9: I can explain my story?
- 30:22Speaker 1: Oh please, I'm dying to know, because you remember coming out?
- 30:25Speaker 9: I do? I do.
- 30:27Speaker 8: I have pre ordered that on bar dot com.
- 30:29Speaker 9: Thank you, Gears and pistons and pain. I mentioned a
- 30:34Speaker 9: t J earlier that I have experience with the Jars
- 30:38Speaker 9: of Life. Now. When I just got started in this,
- 30:43Speaker 9: I was actually a PA on Jurassic Park. You might
- 30:47Speaker 9: know the famous scene with the tri serratoons, Sam Neil
- 30:50Speaker 9: with his head on it. It's breathing in and out.
- 30:54Speaker 9: You might think, oh, similar to Jennifer Aniston's breasts there's
- 30:58Speaker 9: pistons inside, but at that time that technology had not
- 31:02Speaker 9: been created. In fact, I was inside the triceratops on
- 31:06Speaker 9: my back with my feet hot pressing out and in
- 31:14Speaker 9: out and in.
- 31:15Speaker 5: Not your hands, not my hands.
- 31:17Speaker 9: It was very heavy, very thick, very heavy. It was
- 31:21Speaker 9: very hot inside of their not much oxygen. Now what
- 31:24Speaker 9: happened was once Steven Spielberg wrapped that shot, they left
- 31:30Speaker 9: and left me inside of it. Now I was there
- 31:33Speaker 9: for upwards of three days. It's hard to remember. And
- 31:38Speaker 9: I learned a lot about animatronics by studying the inside
- 31:43Speaker 9: of it, using a box of matches and checking around,
- 31:47Speaker 9: studying all of the gears, all of the pistons that
- 31:50Speaker 9: were in there. It was fascinating. Eventually they did remember
- 31:55Speaker 9: that I was inside and the jars of life had
- 31:58Speaker 9: to rip its oh prime, its mouth open, and I
- 32:02Speaker 9: had to desperately.
- 32:04Speaker 4: So they must have known that you couldn't have got
- 32:06Speaker 4: you as an animatronics designer. You designed this, and you
- 32:10Speaker 4: designed it without.
- 32:11Speaker 9: A e I was at the time. Oh, if I
- 32:14Speaker 9: had designed to trust me, it's asshole would have been
- 32:16Speaker 9: able to expect.
- 32:18Speaker 1: And that's your signature move, that is.
- 32:21Speaker 9: And that's why I specialize in that.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Do you think that all of your animals have such
- 32:27Speaker 2: a big asshole because you were trapped?
- 32:29Speaker 9: I think there's definitely some trauma there causing it, so.
- 32:32Speaker 1: No matter who's in there, they'll always get out.
- 32:35Speaker 9: Absolutely, that is absolutely. I don't want anyone to ever
- 32:38Speaker 9: get stuck inside one of my animatronic animals.
- 32:42Speaker 8: That is beautiful.
- 32:43Speaker 7: I feel like there probably is a little piece of
- 32:46Speaker 7: all of us inside.
- 32:47Speaker 8: We were talking about our inside jokes, like a peanut.
- 32:51Speaker 7: Inside every single one, and that as in the thing
- 32:55Speaker 7: that you're hiding in.
- 32:57Speaker 8: Yeah, what was in Jaws for you?
- 32:59Speaker 5: I couldn't tell you.
- 33:01Speaker 1: I don't remember what I did, but.
- 33:05Speaker 6: Were you just kind of like guessing and putting wires together.
- 33:09Speaker 7: It just it checks out to me because historically it's
- 33:12Speaker 7: very well known that that shark was very faulty, which
- 33:16Speaker 7: is the reason why Steven Spielberg had to shoot so
- 33:19Speaker 7: many scenes where you couldn't see the shark.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Stephen would tell me, you gotta get it going, and
- 33:27Speaker 2: I go, I can. If I knew it had a mind,
- 33:32Speaker 2: I can. If I knew it had a mind of
- 33:34Speaker 2: its own, that thing, it really did. But I'll say
- 33:37Speaker 2: in the time since it's been many years. I've been
- 33:40Speaker 2: comfortable in the unknowing there's a release, because I'll say,
- 33:46Speaker 2: thank God, I don't know how to build a robot
- 33:48Speaker 2: that could swim and be that big like that, I'd
- 33:51Speaker 2: be unstoppable.
- 33:53Speaker 4: You're worried about getting too powerful.
- 33:55Speaker 2: My ex wife would be dead.
- 33:59Speaker 5: You would kill this. I'm just killing.
- 34:01Speaker 2: No man should have that power, and I do believe
- 34:04Speaker 2: that God took it away.
- 34:07Speaker 4: Well, I'm very glad that you don't know this information
- 34:12Speaker 4: so that you remain not a murderer.
- 34:13Speaker 2: But I go back and forth. I wish it so
- 34:15Speaker 2: I could I go back and I go forth?
- 34:17Speaker 1: I do? I really wish I remember there?
- 34:20Speaker 6: Maybe to invite your wife to beat yourself thing and
- 34:22Speaker 6: then just accidentally an animatrotic shark attacks her. Is that
- 34:27Speaker 6: is that the what's the fantasy?
- 34:29Speaker 9: You would transport the shock out to the ocean, maybe
- 34:31Speaker 9: the day before, then bring your wife the next day
- 34:35Speaker 9: and hope the shark doesn't kill anyone during that time,
- 34:39Speaker 9: and that your wife would be the only one killed.
- 34:41Speaker 9: Or would you not worry about the collateral damage?
- 34:43Speaker 1: You took the words out of my mouth.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Question exactly, that's exactly my answer.
- 34:51Speaker 9: We ask ourselves questions all the time.
- 34:53Speaker 1: In this line, oh yeah, I'll just say, oh yeah.
- 34:58Speaker 6: I think the biggest question we all ask, which is
- 35:01Speaker 6: something I think we all struggle with, is what is
- 35:03Speaker 6: the line? You know, exactly, what is the line between
- 35:06Speaker 6: machine and life?
- 35:09Speaker 8: Did you love your animatronics?
- 35:17Speaker 5: I'm just wondering what the line is.
- 35:19Speaker 2: I'm curray to me like you've already sucked them, yeah,
- 35:22Speaker 2: because you've given them sexual design and if it's all right.
- 35:26Speaker 4: No, it seems like it's already happened iking for us
- 35:29Speaker 4: to confirm.
- 35:30Speaker 6: But I just am wondering if anybody else has had
- 35:32Speaker 6: a situation where they're questioning the line between you know,
- 35:36Speaker 6: what is lie between life and machine? What is the
- 35:38Speaker 6: lie between kissing somebody that is a machine and kissing
- 35:41Speaker 6: somebody that's not a machine?
- 35:43Speaker 1: Can you tell us which animal at Disneyland you're kissing?
- 35:49Speaker 6: It's I know this might come as a shock to everybody,
- 35:54Speaker 6: but it's the Nove.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I think I feel like it's a.
- 35:59Speaker 6: Huge This might come as a huge groundbreaking thing. But yes,
- 36:03Speaker 6: I have hooked up with the Nave, all of them,
- 36:07Speaker 6: just every single.
- 36:07Speaker 5: One, every single one On seven fifty seven.
- 36:13Speaker 7: Everyone knows that, but just in the way that nave
- 36:16Speaker 7: normally hook up with each other with just linking hair
- 36:18Speaker 7: to each other.
- 36:19Speaker 6: Yeah, both both, it's both because they say, let's do
- 36:22Speaker 6: it the version.
- 36:24Speaker 5: I do the people version, we do the nave version.
- 36:27Speaker 5: It's really fun.
- 36:27Speaker 6: It's a blast, and honestly, there's a lot of drama
- 36:30Speaker 6: right now because everybody wants a little piece of TJ.
- 36:33Speaker 9: You know whoa they used at my asshole blueprints.
- 36:37Speaker 6: All those Yes, thank you so much for those asshole blueprints,
- 36:40Speaker 6: which amazing which I heard are going to be in
- 36:42Speaker 6: your memoir.
- 36:47Speaker 9: Asshole.
- 36:47Speaker 8: That is fantastic.
- 36:48Speaker 9: Yes, but it's one. I mean, it's arguably one of
- 36:50Speaker 9: the most human aspects of life.
- 36:53Speaker 2: You know all those books where it's a chapter book
- 36:56Speaker 2: and in the middle they have the glossy pictures.
- 36:58Speaker 5: Yes, here's book.
- 37:02Speaker 1: I did.
- 37:02Speaker 4: Well, I have to make a baby that made a
- 37:05Speaker 4: mess of itself once, and I did have to license
- 37:08Speaker 4: your asshole technology to do that. I just shrunk it down,
- 37:12Speaker 4: you know.
- 37:12Speaker 6: So, I'm sorry you had to make the baby poop itself.
- 37:15Speaker 6: You couldn't have just pretended or put the poop in
- 37:17Speaker 6: the diaper.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Are you one of those girls that doesn't say I'm just.
- 37:20Speaker 6: Wondering what film or commercially you were shooting where you
- 37:23Speaker 6: have to visibly see poop coming out.
- 37:30Speaker 4: Well, first of all, I never say poop, and I
- 37:35Speaker 4: I resent that I had.
- 37:36Speaker 5: To say it. Now everybody poops, even an animatronic.
- 37:39Speaker 4: And second of all, this was a very racy campaign
- 37:42Speaker 4: by Taco Bell that they were going to air at
- 37:45Speaker 4: three am.
- 37:46Speaker 9: That was an.
- 37:47Speaker 4: Advertisement, believe it or not, for pro eating nachos and
- 37:51Speaker 4: having the runs. They were advertising it as like a
- 37:54Speaker 4: fun stoner thing, and they had a baby, you know,
- 37:59Speaker 4: make a.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Mess of itself.
- 38:00Speaker 6: So in this commercial, stoners were feeding a baby nachos
- 38:04Speaker 6: and then the baby was pooping itself.
- 38:07Speaker 7: In your defense, I want to say I worked for
- 38:10Speaker 7: Taco Bell as well. One of my first jobs was
- 38:11Speaker 7: making the chihuahua.
- 38:13Speaker 5: And oh that wasn't that was my first job.
- 38:17Speaker 7: But they make so many changes on the set of
- 38:19Speaker 7: Taco Bell and the last people ton't know the animatronics.
- 38:21Speaker 7: So you'll be bringing an animatronic that they asked for
- 38:24Speaker 7: or five drafts ago, and they have.
- 38:26Speaker 9: To work with it.
- 38:27Speaker 7: Once you bring it, they go, oh, we're not doing that. Wow,
- 38:29Speaker 7: I have spent thirty thousand dollars on making this creature.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Wow, yeah, Taco Bell works fast. Did you make Stewart little?
- 38:37Speaker 7: I did not make Stewart little. That is I don't
- 38:39Speaker 7: want to say the sea word, but that was c.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Comput Were you in a bidding war at all? Did
- 38:44Speaker 1: you try to?
- 38:45Speaker 8: I was in a bidding war. I pitched, I pitched.
- 38:48Speaker 8: I came out three hundred thousand dollars more expensive. And
- 38:51Speaker 8: that was frustrating to hear.
- 38:53Speaker 5: That was frustrating to the classic thing.
- 38:54Speaker 9: An animatronic would have been a little to drive that
- 38:56Speaker 9: little cost so much better.
- 38:58Speaker 8: They would have been able to drive it for real.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Yes, and don't you think it would have been more likable?
- 39:02Speaker 1: That's what I say all the time.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Is that what animatronics are pulling a performance from an
- 39:07Speaker 2: actor because he's in the room with them.
- 39:09Speaker 8: Come on, I will tell you.
- 39:11Speaker 7: We were brought in for Harry Potter and the Chamber
- 39:14Speaker 7: of Secrets. We were brought in to do the Phoenix
- 39:17Speaker 7: scene beautiful.
- 39:18Speaker 8: With Richard Harris and and and Harry Potter.
- 39:21Speaker 5: And they brought us Daniel radcl Harry Potter on set. Sorry,
- 39:27Speaker 5: just go ahead, who is that?
- 39:30Speaker 1: Please continue?
- 39:31Speaker 7: We were brought in to work with Richard Harris and
- 39:34Speaker 7: Harry Potter, and we sat down because they had tried
- 39:38Speaker 7: it with C G I and Richard Harris said, I
- 39:41Speaker 7: don't know what I'm looking at, and Harry Potter said,
- 39:43Speaker 7: it's just right there. And he said, don't you ever
- 39:45Speaker 7: tell me what to do. When I was your age,
- 39:47Speaker 7: I was smoking cigarettes and it was a Harry.
- 39:53Speaker 9: Harry Potter got a Swiss Man.
- 39:57Speaker 8: Love Harry Potter. I cannot wait to see Harry Potter
- 39:59Speaker 8: and here.
- 40:00Speaker 6: Now I hate Swee's an interesting take because it's almost
- 40:06Speaker 6: like an actor portraying an animatronic.
- 40:09Speaker 9: Which I have to be honest, I'm incredibly uncomfortable with.
- 40:12Speaker 9: If everyone does anything like that again too, I will
- 40:16Speaker 9: find him.
- 40:16Speaker 8: No, for sure, it was robot face. It was offensive.
- 40:19Speaker 1: It was it was robot face.
- 40:20Speaker 2: And I'll say, you fucking your animatronics doesn't bother me.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Someone acting like they're an animatronic bothers.
- 40:28Speaker 5: Okay, I got it.
- 40:29Speaker 6: I gotta put my foot down. None of you, none
- 40:33Speaker 6: of you have fucked your animatronics.
- 40:35Speaker 9: I I have a confession to mind.
- 40:38Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what I holy ship.
- 40:40Speaker 9: Okay, well, okay, I was part of a team. No,
- 40:48Speaker 9: I was part of a team.
- 40:50Speaker 8: You are my hero.
- 40:51Speaker 9: Reminder, you will recall that I worked on Bicentennial Men.
- 40:55Speaker 8: Oh my god, I recall, recall I will I will,
- 40:58Speaker 8: I will recall.
- 40:59Speaker 9: That feeling did develop between me and the bi Centennial men.
- 41:04Speaker 9: Oh my god, and things were explored. That was the
- 41:08Speaker 9: first time that I really innovated. I probably went too far.
- 41:11Speaker 5: I do not want to innovated.
- 41:13Speaker 1: What do you mean.
- 41:14Speaker 9: Bicentennial Man was real. Robin Williams was not there on
- 41:19Speaker 9: those days. That was a real animatronic robot. Oh those
- 41:23Speaker 9: scenes you're seeing is a real robot with real human feelings.
- 41:26Speaker 9: It brings that movie to a whole other level. Oh
- 41:29Speaker 9: my God of death. Now, something that is not talked about,
- 41:34Speaker 9: but I feel it must be, is that once his
- 41:37Speaker 9: scenes were finished and we told him you're going to
- 41:40Speaker 9: be shut down later today, he then disappeared and we
- 41:44Speaker 9: have yet to see him since. But I feel it's
- 41:47Speaker 9: important to say because both of my ex wives have
- 41:52Speaker 9: been murdered, strangled by someone with no fingerprints.
- 41:57Speaker 1: I'm so sorry.
- 42:00Speaker 5: Sorry. Did you not fuck him?
- 42:05Speaker 9: I did fuck the list? Oh my god, why are you.
- 42:08Speaker 8: Asking the one question? His story was so much deeper
- 42:12Speaker 8: your soul to that story.
- 42:15Speaker 1: Context. I have a confession to make.
- 42:19Speaker 5: I know what happened with that, with that shark. What
- 42:23Speaker 5: what did you do?
- 42:24Speaker 6: I fucked ith.
- 42:26Speaker 5: You fucked it to work. I fucked it.
- 42:28Speaker 1: I fucked it and it turned on.
