- 0:08Speaker 1: Alarm you need the shock circuit with Sonya and Joakim.
- 0:13Speaker 1: 987. Yeah, Solo and yours here today. I'm loving that
- 0:16Speaker 1: song by Croy Sivan, even though Joakim hates it. Um,
- 0:19Speaker 1: I just think we have essentially, sometimes we have a
- 0:22Speaker 1: different taste in music. Like I like something that is
- 0:26Speaker 1: party related and like, you know, dance music, even though
- 0:29Speaker 1: I can't dance, and Joakim's a bit more, I think
- 0:31Speaker 1: he's a sentimental guy. That's why he might prefer ballads.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Anyway, good morning. Thank you for joining me here today.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna be solo and yours. So much to catch
- 0:39Speaker 1: you up on over the past 24 hours. It's been
- 0:42Speaker 1: absolutely crazy. I think you would have noticed by now
- 0:45Speaker 1: Singapore is in full swing when it comes to Formula
- 0:47Speaker 1: One action and safe to say, I mean, I don't
- 0:52Speaker 1: know whether it's because like we are in the thick
- 0:54Speaker 1: of it or anything, but it seems like here in Singapore,
- 0:57Speaker 1: we have a lot of events going on. I'm not
- 0:59Speaker 1: even sure if other countries are doing this many activations
- 1:03Speaker 1: and events, but
- 1:04Speaker 1: If you go around, you might see all the hosts
- 1:07Speaker 1: of Singapore have been activated for, you know, every day
- 1:10Speaker 1: this week leading up to race weekend, but of course,
- 1:13Speaker 1: you know, race weekend itself is not going to be
- 1:15Speaker 1: touched when it comes to other types of events that
- 1:17Speaker 1: you see out there, you know, meet and greets, public appearances,
- 1:19Speaker 1: because they're locked in and focused from Friday all the
- 1:22Speaker 1: way to Sunday. So,
- 1:24Speaker 1: You can expect um yesterday and even today, there'll be
- 1:27Speaker 1: plenty of activations and chances for you to cite your
- 1:30Speaker 1: favorite drivers as well. It was so funny because yesterday,
- 1:33Speaker 1: which I'll tell you more about my experience yesterday, it
- 1:36Speaker 1: wasn't just uh your favorite F1 drivers that showed up.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Some of your really out there popular regional celebrities were
- 1:44Speaker 1: here in Singapore too. I think some international celebrities might
- 1:47Speaker 1: have been cited, but
- 1:49Speaker 1: Um, I want to give a big shout out to Sangwan.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I really did not expect to see him at both
- 1:54Speaker 1: events that I hosted yesterday, but maybe we have some
- 1:57Speaker 1: faith over there. But I'll be posting something up on 987's, um,
- 2:00Speaker 1: TikTok page and uh maybe some pictures on their Instagram
- 2:04Speaker 1: later on this morning as well. So lots to catch
- 2:06Speaker 1: you up on. Now, you might have seen this already circulating,
- 2:09Speaker 1: but this just came in yesterday night, uh, last night,
- 2:13Speaker 1: last night, when, you know, we're in the midst of, um,
- 2:16Speaker 1: race season here in Singapore. It's all about
- 2:18Speaker 1: The, it's all about the sport. It's also about being
- 2:23Speaker 1: an honest competitor and, you know, for our Formula One drivers,
- 2:27Speaker 1: it's a totally different ball game altogether, but something else
- 2:30Speaker 1: that we also look forward to a lot here in
- 2:32Speaker 1: Singapore are marathons, right? And we've done that flawlessly ever
- 2:36Speaker 1: since marathons became a thing here in Singapore. Like I
- 2:39Speaker 1: have to say our organization, everything has been pretty stellar
- 2:43Speaker 1: here for a small country like us. Unfortunately for this
- 2:46Speaker 1: fitness influencer from China,
- 2:49Speaker 1: She, um, celebrated a personal best over at a super
- 2:53Speaker 1: big marathon, OK. This is one of the highlights. It
- 2:55Speaker 1: is the Berlin Marathon, and I think I've heard Joakim
- 2:58Speaker 1: definitely say, talk about Berlin Marathon before. I've got some
- 3:01Speaker 1: other friends who are big on marathons. They say that's
- 3:03Speaker 1: the dream, that's the goal. It's one of the, the
- 3:06Speaker 1: biggest marathons in the world that you have to, you
- 3:09Speaker 1: have to end up at if you are an enthusiast
- 3:12Speaker 1: when it comes to running, right, in marathons. Um, unfortunately
- 3:15Speaker 1: for her,
- 3:16Speaker 1: She made a very bad decision, midway through the race,
- 3:20Speaker 1: or rather, maybe 3 quarters or somewhere about there, maybe
- 3:24Speaker 1: the final quarter or so, she decided to hitch a
- 3:27Speaker 1: ride from a biker to finish to the finish line
- 3:32Speaker 1: to collect her medal, and she registered her timing that
- 3:36Speaker 1: included her on the bike.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And it was out there, like the evidence was out there,
- 3:40Speaker 1: the receipts were out there for everyone to see. Apparently
- 3:43Speaker 1: people took pictures and videos of her boarding the bicycle
- 3:45Speaker 1: and getting there. She is like, by the way, she
- 3:48Speaker 1: has like half a million followers on Xiaohongshu. She's quite
- 3:51Speaker 1: a big, you know, influencer, and she even has like sports-related, uh,
- 3:56Speaker 1: endorsements back in China and all that because she's quite
- 3:58Speaker 1: a popular fitness influencer. So she, uh, I think she
- 4:02Speaker 1: tried to defend herself by saying,
- 4:04Speaker 1: Um, you know, she wasn't feeling well at some point,
- 4:07Speaker 1: you know, she was comfortable at first and she wanted
- 4:10Speaker 1: to persevere, but she didn't feel so good, um, after
- 4:13Speaker 1: some time, and she was caught sitting on the back
- 4:15Speaker 1: of a bicycle around the 30-something kilometer mark, and for
- 4:19Speaker 1: a full marathon it's about like 42 kilometers. So she
- 4:23Speaker 1: hitched a ride for the final like 5 km or
- 4:25Speaker 1: so if I'm not wrong. 5 km is still long, uh,
- 4:28Speaker 1: by the way.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Um, I think the issue that people had was if
- 4:31Speaker 1: you're unwell, just tap out. But I think the issue
- 4:34Speaker 1: people had was that she hitched a ride and she
- 4:36Speaker 1: registered that as her final timing. You know what I mean?
- 4:40Speaker 1: So that, unfortunately doesn't work well for her. She's gotten
- 4:43Speaker 1: dropped by, you know, the people endorsing her, the brands
- 4:46Speaker 1: that are endorsing her, she's dropped right now.
- 4:48Speaker 1: This is just, it just goes to show that you
- 4:51Speaker 1: are being watched at all times. People are very alert
- 4:55Speaker 1: and now with social media that's out there, you know,
- 4:58Speaker 1: it can get out there in like 5 seconds. There's
- 5:01Speaker 1: no hiding and for someone of her level, I must
- 5:05Speaker 1: say I was quite surprised that she did that. I mean,
- 5:08Speaker 1: she should have thought better at the end of the day,
- 5:10Speaker 1: you know, but maybe she'll find a way to bounce back.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I don't know, but people are really not very supportive
- 5:16Speaker 1: of her right now, unfortunately.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Got a couple of messages coming through right now. I
- 5:19Speaker 1: want to focus on a message coming in from QY.
- 5:22Speaker 1: You said, Good morning, Sonia. I was there at the
- 5:25Speaker 1: McLaren events at the Puma store at River City. I
- 5:28Speaker 1: saw you hosting. I heard you before I even got there. Yeah,
- 5:31Speaker 1: I know, I'm known to be a little bit loud.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And um, sorry, QY, you continued saying, I'm such a
- 5:36Speaker 1: huge Lando fan. I actually managed to catch a glimpse
- 5:39Speaker 1: of him. I'm so happy. I got some videos, even
- 5:42Speaker 1: though I didn't manage to actually talk to him, say
- 5:44Speaker 1: hi or get an autograph. It made my entire day.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I was there since 9 a.m. in the morning and
- 5:49Speaker 1: just catching a glimpse of him really just made my
- 5:52Speaker 1: heart swell and I could tear up just reliving the
- 5:55Speaker 1: moments from yesterday seeing Lando Norris in person. Thank you
- 5:58Speaker 1: so much for being a great host. Oh, thank you, QI.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I appreciate your message. Honestly, it was a very exciting day.
- 6:05Speaker 1: You know, I'll, I'll definitely fill you in on the
- 6:07Speaker 1: whole entire experience after 7 a.m. Um, got tons of
- 6:10Speaker 1: DMs from yesterday. I think I haven't processed a lot
- 6:14Speaker 1: of your messages just yet, but, um, so many of
- 6:16Speaker 1: you were asking, hey, fill us in more about the
- 6:19Speaker 1: behind the scenes yesterday when you met Charlotte Claire and
- 6:21Speaker 1: Lando Norris. For sure. I mean, you will slowly start
- 6:24Speaker 1: seeing lots of.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Content going up. In fact, last night it was pretty late,
- 6:28Speaker 1: but like 10, posted a video of a little segment
- 6:31Speaker 1: that we did behind the scenes that wasn't available to
- 6:35Speaker 1: the public to watch. But if you were on the
- 6:37Speaker 1: live stream, you might have seen it. So there's gonna
- 6:40Speaker 1: be plenty more moments with Charles Leclerc from 313 Puma
- 6:44Speaker 1: that will come out very, very soon. In fact, I
- 6:47Speaker 1: really enjoyed our little talk show segment.
- 6:49Speaker 1: We did it for about what, like 15 to 20
- 6:51Speaker 1: minutes or so. And it was such a rare opportunity
- 6:54Speaker 1: because he was so calm and chill. And I think
- 6:57Speaker 1: it was also beneficial that it was indoors. So he
- 7:00Speaker 1: wasn't really exposed to the heat or anything and he
- 7:03Speaker 1: really sat there and spoke to us for 20 minutes straight. Um,
- 7:06Speaker 1: so it's such a privilege to have him there. Then
- 7:08Speaker 1: we scooted over to Puma Vivo City, which was very,
- 7:11Speaker 1: very hectic.
- 7:12Speaker 1: But fun at the same time and the energy and
- 7:15Speaker 1: the crowd there was just insane, right? Because I think
- 7:18Speaker 1: the layout of Vivo City, interestingly, where the Puma store is,
- 7:22Speaker 1: is very advantageous. It not only gives you visibility from
- 7:27Speaker 1: the 2nd and 3rd floors in a
- 7:30Speaker 1: Quite, I think, I think they're in quite a good position,
- 7:32Speaker 1: to be honest, when I looked at the crowd, and
- 7:34Speaker 1: even on level, on the level that the store was at,
- 7:37Speaker 1: I think people generally, all his fans had such a
- 7:40Speaker 1: good view of him. He did linger around in the
- 7:43Speaker 1: front for quite a long time. We had an official
- 7:45Speaker 1: store opening.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Um, people flew in from all over the world just
- 7:48Speaker 1: to see him and be up close. So honestly, I
- 7:51Speaker 1: was so grateful to our friends from Puma Singapore for
- 7:53Speaker 1: making it possible. Um, we did play some games with
- 7:56Speaker 1: Lando Norris that will be up on socials as well. So,
- 7:59Speaker 1: maybe I'll do a little collab post with 9872 so
- 8:01Speaker 1: more people can see it. But whatever it is that
- 8:03Speaker 1: you're doing over the next few days, I think your
- 8:06Speaker 1: entire feed is going to be swamped with
- 8:08Speaker 1: Images and videos of your favorite drivers, so you're not
- 8:11Speaker 1: gonna get a break from that for sure. I hope
- 8:13Speaker 1: that you embrace it and have fun over the next
- 8:16Speaker 1: few days. Um, seems to be slightly cloudy this morning
- 8:19Speaker 1: and a slow start to the day cause I'm definitely
- 8:22Speaker 1: feeling it from yesterday and the
- 8:24Speaker 1: Entire crazy week, but that's precisely why I feel like
- 8:27Speaker 1: I don't have enough endurance to do something like High rocks. OK?
- 8:31Speaker 1: If Joy were here, he would 100% laugh at me
- 8:33Speaker 1: because he has been trying to get me to do
- 8:35Speaker 1: Hros doubles with him, which has not happened. I've been
- 8:38Speaker 1: giving all sorts of excuses, not gonna lie. You know,
- 8:41Speaker 1: I injured my ankle recently. I was like, yeah, my
- 8:43Speaker 1: ankle is still not healed, but I've been back playing
- 8:46Speaker 1: paddle and doing other things. It's just, you know, I
- 8:48Speaker 1: don't think I can commit to a whole high rocks
- 8:50Speaker 1: competition just yet, right?
- 8:52Speaker 1: But Hirocks Youngsters is coming to Singapore. That's the actual,
- 8:57Speaker 1: the actual title and the term.
- 8:59Speaker 1: The reason why they're saying that is because it's for
- 9:01Speaker 1: kids between the ages of 8 to 15 years old.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Happening here in Singapore, by the way, in November, so
- 9:08Speaker 1: end of November 28th and 29th, there's going to be
- 9:11Speaker 1: Hrocks youngsters. I'm just so curious about the weights that
- 9:16Speaker 1: they're gonna incorporate into, you know, some of the challenges
- 9:19Speaker 1: and the obstacles. I mean, I call them obstacles, but
- 9:21Speaker 1: I think in High rocks or fitness people, they call
- 9:23Speaker 1: it stations, right? To me, it's a challenge or obstacle, OK.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Um, but this one has different age-specific categories. So you
- 9:31Speaker 1: have 8 to 9 years old, there's 10 to 1112
- 9:34Speaker 1: to 13, and then 14 to 15. Naturally, I think
- 9:37Speaker 1: by the time you're 14 to 15, if you're really
- 9:40Speaker 1: into sports or you're even like representing your school, doing stuff,
- 9:43Speaker 1: you're probably at a certain level that's, you know, on
- 9:46Speaker 1: the way to doing Hierros adults already, right?
- 9:48Speaker 1: But it'd be very similar to the adult competition. There
- 9:51Speaker 1: are still 8 exercise stations, including the kettlebell farmers carry,
- 9:55Speaker 1: sled push, lunges, and many, many more, but the running
- 9:59Speaker 1: distance is going to depend on the age group. So perhaps,
- 10:02Speaker 1: you know, the younger you are, the, the less running
- 10:05Speaker 1: you have to do.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Honestly, I'm gonna ask for permission whether I can join
- 10:08Speaker 1: the kids one because I'm not ready to do the
- 10:10Speaker 1: adults one. And besides, I think I meet the minimum
- 10:14Speaker 1: height requirement when it comes to these teenagers. Like we're
- 10:17Speaker 1: probably around the same height. If not, I think I'm shorter,
- 10:19Speaker 1: to be honest, whenever time, whenever we go down to
- 10:21Speaker 1: like school invasions and stuff, I blend right in into
- 10:24Speaker 1: the school. So I should be able to qualify for
- 10:27Speaker 1: High Rocks youngsters. Um, you can read about the full
- 10:30Speaker 1: rule book online and.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And I believe registration begins today. So go check it out.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Here's hoping that you managed to push your kids to
- 10:38Speaker 1: do something fun at the end of November. Tons of
- 10:40Speaker 1: events going on and this happened yesterday that inspired the
- 10:44Speaker 1: topic for today. I just had such a good laugh
- 10:47Speaker 1: because I met so many of you, um, wonderful F1
- 10:50Speaker 1: related fans or maybe even your fans of some of
- 10:52Speaker 1: the Asian artists that came here to Singapore, made appearances
- 10:55Speaker 1: over at some of the events yesterday.
- 10:57Speaker 1: And I spoke to quite a lot of, especially the
- 10:59Speaker 1: girlies who look very, very slay, by the way. All
- 11:01Speaker 1: of you dressed up to meet, um, you know, Lando
- 11:04Speaker 1: Norris and Charles Leclerc and some of your other favorite
- 11:07Speaker 1: celebs too. And one thing that I found in common
- 11:10Speaker 1: with a lot of these girls, they actually openly said
- 11:13Speaker 1: on the live stream that they ditched their partners to
- 11:17Speaker 1: come down to the event.
- 11:18Speaker 1: And to see their favorite stars or their drivers, you know,
- 11:22Speaker 1: and one of them was actually even video calling her boyfriend,
- 11:26Speaker 1: who wasn't even in Singapore actually. She flew here because
- 11:29Speaker 1: she wanted to catch Formula One and she's a huge
- 11:31Speaker 1: Charles Leclerc fan. So she was um video calling her boyfriend,
- 11:35Speaker 1: sort of like rubbing it in his face that Charles
- 11:36Speaker 1: Leclerc was right in front of her at um Puma 313. So,
- 11:40Speaker 1: It kind of got me thinking, right? Are there moments
- 11:43Speaker 1: where maybe you're such a big fan of an artist
- 11:45Speaker 1: or you really want to catch a concert or some
- 11:48Speaker 1: sort of event where your favorite, most inspiring artist of
- 11:52Speaker 1: all time is going to show up. Would you go
- 11:54Speaker 1: by yourself, like just solo? Would you rock up by
- 11:57Speaker 1: yourself and ditch your partner?
- 11:59Speaker 1: Or would you want your partner in life to come
- 12:01Speaker 1: with you, you know, because what I noticed was that
- 12:03Speaker 1: a lot of the girls actually had their best friends
- 12:06Speaker 1: with them, or one or two of the girlies said, yeah,
- 12:08Speaker 1: my friend, I dragged my friend here today for emotional
- 12:11Speaker 1: support just to be here, help me take videos, like
- 12:13Speaker 1: if I'm able to interact with, you know, my favorite
- 12:16Speaker 1: star and all that. So, would you
- 12:19Speaker 1: Go the distance to attend something alone, be it a
- 12:23Speaker 1: concert or an event, you know, ditch ditch everyone else
- 12:26Speaker 1: and just rock up by yourself, or do you need
- 12:28Speaker 1: someone with you? What do you think? Let me know. Um,
- 12:31Speaker 1: based off my experience yesterday when I was live streaming
- 12:34Speaker 1: and hosting two separate events where your favorite F1 drivers appeared,
- 12:38Speaker 1: and some of the, you know, huge Asian celebrities were
- 12:40Speaker 1: there as well.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I did notice quite a lot of people, they rocked
- 12:43Speaker 1: up by themselves because they simply are big fans of,
- 12:47Speaker 1: you know, either the drivers or the celebrities, and they
- 12:49Speaker 1: made new friends on the spot, like in the fan
- 12:51Speaker 1: pit and the fan zone, right? So, I did ask
- 12:54Speaker 1: a few of them on the live stream, whether or
- 12:56Speaker 1: not they would have liked if their friend or their
- 12:58Speaker 1: partner was with them, and most of them said no.
- 13:00Speaker 1: They just wanted to rock up and like support their
- 13:03Speaker 1: favorite driver, right? And just be there in the atmosphere. OK,
- 13:07Speaker 1: so going to messages first.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna say hi over here to Kay. Katie, you said, hey, Sonia,
- 13:15Speaker 1: I actually would like someone to be with me. I'm
- 13:17Speaker 1: scared of being around strangers and to me, it's kind
- 13:20Speaker 1: of awkward being alone. Having someone that I know around
- 13:23Speaker 1: is definitely more fun. I don't disagree with you. I
- 13:26Speaker 1: think that even though I am by nature quite an
- 13:29Speaker 1: independent person and I will, I will rock up to
- 13:31Speaker 1: do things by myself, but to me, the preference is
- 13:34Speaker 1: to have a shared experience with someone, you know, like
- 13:36Speaker 1: when I'm traveling,
- 13:37Speaker 1: Some people ask like, hey, why don't you do like
- 13:39Speaker 1: more solo travels? I'm like, because I'm the kind of
- 13:41Speaker 1: person that likes to yap with someone that's with me
- 13:44Speaker 1: and be like, oh my gosh, this is so cool,
- 13:46Speaker 1: or have that shared moment together, right? Like be it
- 13:48Speaker 1: your bestie or your partner in life or whatever. It's,
- 13:50Speaker 1: it's something that I prefer. That's for sure. OK, um,
- 13:54Speaker 1: saying hi to Andy. You say, good morning, Sons. Now,
- 13:57Speaker 1: my partner and I, we would both ditch each other
- 14:00Speaker 1: for something we like. I would ditch her just to
- 14:02Speaker 1: watch Spider-Man because she would ask too much questions. Oh, no,
- 14:06Speaker 1: that's me.
- 14:06Speaker 1: And she would gladly ditch me for Blackpinkk or BTS
- 14:09Speaker 1: concerts because I get awkward in any social settings. Ah,
- 14:13Speaker 1: I guess Match made in heaven. You guys sound like
- 14:15Speaker 1: you balance each other out really, really well. I asked
- 14:18Speaker 1: you this question here today, based off my experience yesterday
- 14:21Speaker 1: when I saw plenty of people rocking up solo to
- 14:24Speaker 1: catch their favorite drivers, and most of them are, are girls,
- 14:27Speaker 1: and they said, yeah, they ditched their boyfriends, their partners, whatever,
- 14:30Speaker 1: like at home and they, they.
- 14:32Speaker 1: just wanted to come down and see their favorite celebrities
- 14:34Speaker 1: and F1 drivers. So my question to you was, would
- 14:37Speaker 1: you go for a concert by yourself or would you
- 14:40Speaker 1: watch something by yourself or catch your favorite celeb without
- 14:43Speaker 1: your partner and you kind of prefer it that way.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I mean, it could, it could be, you know, it
- 14:48Speaker 1: could be something that you're very passionate about and you
- 14:49Speaker 1: don't want to like, put your partner through that, right?
- 14:52Speaker 1: Or would you rather have someone with you to be
- 14:55Speaker 1: in those moments to experience it together?
- 14:57Speaker 1: OK, um, more of your messages coming through right now.
- 15:00Speaker 1: And I'm saying hi over here too. I don't know
- 15:03Speaker 1: if you left your full name. It is Kim, you said. Hey,
- 15:08Speaker 1: Um, good morning, Sonia. It's my first time ever writing in,
- 15:10Speaker 1: and I have to share my excitement about the upcoming
- 15:13Speaker 1: BTS concert. My girlfriends and I were super lucky. We
- 15:16Speaker 1: managed to secure tickets. Yay. Ticketing war was real, but
- 15:19Speaker 1: we survived. Here's the funny part. All of us are
- 15:22Speaker 1: either married or engaged, and we have one golden rule
- 15:26Speaker 1: that we always remind our fiances and husbands and boyfriends of.
- 15:30Speaker 1: We loved BTS.
- 15:31Speaker 1: we even met you guys, so you have no say
- 15:34Speaker 1: in this. Sorry boys, you knew what you were signing
- 15:36Speaker 1: up for. BTS came first. I want to give a
- 15:39Speaker 1: special shout out to my husband, YH. Not only was
- 15:42Speaker 1: he super supportive of me getting concert tickets, he even
- 15:45Speaker 1: joined the ticketing queue and temporarily became one of the
- 15:49Speaker 1: girls by joining our girls' group chat to help us
- 15:52Speaker 1: secure the tickets. Imagine being the only
- 15:55Speaker 1: Guy in a chat group full of armies panicking over
- 15:58Speaker 1: concert tickets. So thank you to my husband for supporting
- 16:01Speaker 1: my fangirl life. On a side note, my husband and
- 16:03Speaker 1: I have never been to USS for horror nights because
- 16:06Speaker 1: he doesn't like spooky things. I went with my girlfriends
- 16:09Speaker 1: a couple of times. I want to bring him to
- 16:11Speaker 1: have a good laugh at him that night. Wow, uh,
- 16:14Speaker 1: what a lengthy message, but I really enjoyed that, Kim.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Thank you so much for taking the effort to write
- 16:17Speaker 1: that in and
- 16:19Speaker 1: I love how you're repaying him and his support by
- 16:22Speaker 1: going there to laugh at him. I mean, that's a
- 16:24Speaker 1: perfect relationship right there.
- 16:26Speaker 1: We have Ray on the line right now. Rayne, what
- 16:28Speaker 1: about you?
- 16:29Speaker 2: Personally, for me, I don't have any like biases or like, um,
- 16:33Speaker 2: how to say like this kind of pop stars that
- 16:35Speaker 2: I admire, but I will use an example of my girlfriend. Like, uh,
- 16:39Speaker 2: last Saturday, I think it was a weekend concert, right?
- 16:41Speaker 1: Yes, I was there. I was there.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Yeah, she, she got last minute, uh, tickets with her, uh,
- 16:46Speaker 2: from her colleague. It was like super last minute and
- 16:49Speaker 2: we had other engagement.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Uh, that we were supposed to go for a movie
- 16:53Speaker 2: session by the Austrian embassy. There was a closing gala.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Then after that, obviously she had this opportunity. I simply
- 17:01Speaker 2: told her, don't need to think twice, just go for
- 17:03Speaker 2: the weekend concert. And then after that I'll go, I'll
- 17:05Speaker 2: go to the closing gala on my own, uh, but
- 17:07Speaker 2: if I can find someone, fortunately I did find a
- 17:09Speaker 2: friend to just bring along. And after that we just
- 17:12Speaker 2: went our separate ways on that day.
- 17:14Speaker 2: That's really cute.
- 17:15Speaker 1: You know, that's really cute. I think it's super healthy
- 17:17Speaker 1: to have a relationship like that, like knowing that, you know,
- 17:20Speaker 1: your partner's not going to have an issue with it
- 17:22Speaker 1: because you know how important it was to her, right,
- 17:24Speaker 1: to catch the concert.
- 17:26Speaker 2: I think it's more of being pragmatic about the whole
- 17:28Speaker 2: thing because I always like, you know, I, I feel
- 17:31Speaker 2: like I always tell people that, um, how you should
- 17:33Speaker 2: act in a relationship is, you know, if you, if
- 17:36Speaker 2: you are not sure whether the thing is right or
- 17:38Speaker 2: wrong to do, just reverse the situation. If you were
- 17:41Speaker 2: in the other person's spot, would you want that to
- 17:43Speaker 2: happen to you? I think it's a very good metric
- 17:45Speaker 2: to calculate or like, oh, should I ditch this or that,
- 17:49Speaker 2: or should I, uh, tell the person, because at the
- 17:51Speaker 2: end of the day.
- 17:52Speaker 2: The relationship is something for you to build lifelong and
- 17:55Speaker 2: if you guys can't cooperate on small, I, I feel
- 17:58Speaker 2: like these are small things, then I think you shouldn't
- 18:00Speaker 2: be together in the
- 18:01Speaker 2: first place.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I, I really like. I mean, I lost count the
- 18:05Speaker 1: amount of times that I left my own alone, um,
- 18:09Speaker 1: that I think you will burst out laughing. Um, he
- 18:11Speaker 1: came to attend a wedding with me, like of a
- 18:14Speaker 1: friend that he doesn't know, OK, it's my friend. He
- 18:17Speaker 1: doesn't know anyone there.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Last minute I got a magazine cover shoot, OK, and
- 18:21Speaker 1: obviously it's something that I can't turn down. So I said,
- 18:24Speaker 1: I gotta leave to, to go for this, and I
- 18:28Speaker 1: told him like 2 days before, and he said, Huh,
- 18:30Speaker 1: but I don't know anyone there. And I said, Do
- 18:33Speaker 1: you want to just leave with me then? And we
- 18:35Speaker 1: just leave at Ang Pao, and he said, No lah,
- 18:36Speaker 1: it's not so nice. So he stayed on at the
- 18:38Speaker 1: wedding with total strangers, and he doesn't even know the
- 18:41Speaker 1: bride and groom.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I think that's very admirable because I feel like when
- 18:46Speaker 2: you are, when you're in a relationship, you are an
- 18:48Speaker 2: extension of each other.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Yes, I totally agree. Thank you so much for your call, Ray.
- 18:52Speaker 1: What a great chat with you. Have a nice day, OK?
- 18:54Speaker 2: Alright, you too.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Bye-bye. We're talking about my experience yesterday when I saw
- 18:58Speaker 1: plenty of people come down by themselves.
- 19:01Speaker 1: And they told me live on the live stream that
- 19:03Speaker 1: they ditched their partners to come down to say hi
- 19:05Speaker 1: to their favorite F1 drivers because they just, you know,
- 19:08Speaker 1: they're passionate about it, right? And most of them are
- 19:10Speaker 1: like beautiful girls. They, they really dressed up for the event.
- 19:13Speaker 1: They came down, they were laughing about it, took videos
- 19:15Speaker 1: to send their partners to say like, hey, you know,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I'm here, kind of thing.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I thought that was really cute, but my question to
- 19:20Speaker 1: you today was, would you show up alone and just
- 19:24Speaker 1: rock up to something that you're passionate about without your partner,
- 19:27Speaker 1: or would you need like your bestie with you or
- 19:29Speaker 1: preferably someone with like, I don't know, emotional support or something,
- 19:32Speaker 1: because some of the girlies brought their besties down for,
- 19:35Speaker 1: for support and for uh good camera angles. Gonna say
- 19:38Speaker 1: hi over here to Chris. You say good morning, Sonia.
- 19:41Speaker 1: My wife has absolutely no interest in anime and cosplay. So,
- 19:46Speaker 1: when I go for overseas events like in KL for example,
- 19:49Speaker 1: she would go out shopping or eating with her sister
- 19:52Speaker 1: while I go for the cosplay event. By the way,
- 19:54Speaker 1: I also cosplay and I go down, enjoy myself. After all,
- 19:59Speaker 1: You'll both still enjoy the KL trip together, kind of.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I like that. You know what the funny thing was,
- 20:04Speaker 1: what I didn't expect were the kind of messages and
- 20:07Speaker 1: stories coming through today that proves what a healthy relationship
- 20:11Speaker 1: looks like, you know, and that I didn't make that
- 20:13Speaker 1: relation initially. I just thought it was a cute topic
- 20:16Speaker 1: or it's funny.
- 20:17Speaker 1: But thank you so much for your messages and your
- 20:19Speaker 1: calls earlier. Thank you for joining me here today. Now,
- 20:21Speaker 1: I may be solo, but I've replaced Joakim with a
- 20:24Speaker 1: beautiful girl here today, so I have no regrets when
- 20:27Speaker 1: it comes to that. You will be familiar with this
- 20:29Speaker 1: competition called World Skills. It's not the first time that
- 20:32Speaker 1: we've had students, um, that represented Singapore here in our
- 20:35Speaker 1: studio for that, and, uh, my guest is also a
- 20:38Speaker 1: familiar face. Say hello to Republic Polytechnics, Charmaine.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Hello. Good morning. Good morning. How are you? It's been
- 20:47Speaker 1: a whole year since you were here in the studio.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I've been good. It's been a lot since the past
- 20:52Speaker 1: one year. Yeah, I mean, I'm happy to be here. Exactly.
- 20:56Speaker 1: And it's, it's always so nice to see like our
- 20:58Speaker 1: very own students from Singapore representing us and then winning.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I mean, OK, it's not always about winning. It's always about,
- 21:04Speaker 1: you know, the experience and everything, but secretly,
- 21:06Speaker 1: You of course feel happy if you win something, right? Yeah.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Tell me about your experience this year in Shanghai. Yes,
- 21:13Speaker 1: so it's been, it's been a year since uh worst
- 21:16Speaker 1: cases ASEAN. So that was in Malaya and through that
- 21:21Speaker 1: I have had um many friendlies along the way. So
- 21:24Speaker 1: I went to Australia in June this year and then, um,
- 21:29Speaker 1: I won the best foundation as well as a gold
- 21:31Speaker 1: medal over there. So that was a friendly that I
- 21:33Speaker 1: had and I met a few of my competitors internationally.
- 21:37Speaker 1: After that, I went to Shanghai to compete on the
- 21:40Speaker 1: international stage. Yes, and I got the best nomination as
- 21:43Speaker 1: well as a silver medal. 27.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Crazy. How, how's your mindset going in because, you know,
- 21:56Speaker 1: you don't want to be intimidated. At the same time,
- 21:58Speaker 1: you need to have a good head on your shoulders
- 22:01Speaker 1: to be like, OK, I'm focused and I, I want
- 22:04Speaker 1: to do well. Does, does winning even cross your mind
- 22:07Speaker 1: or you're just focused on the task?
- 22:09Speaker 1: I went in with a goal. OK, OK. So I
- 22:15Speaker 1: went in with a goal to achieve something that I
- 22:18Speaker 1: really wanted from the very start when I joined WorldSkills.
- 22:20Speaker 1: So that is to win a medal and to make myself,
- 22:23Speaker 1: my coaches, as well as my family proud. Yes, I mean,
- 22:26Speaker 1: so you know, for the sake of our audience members
- 22:28Speaker 1: who may not be so familiar with what WorldSkills is about,
- 22:31Speaker 1: I was actually saying.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Earlier that it is the world's largest international skills competition,
- 22:35Speaker 1: so it's kind of like the Olympics of vocational skills
- 22:38Speaker 1: in a way as we would dub it, right? Can
- 22:40Speaker 1: you take us through the competition process, just in case
- 22:43Speaker 1: people are wondering like, what do you do? OK, so
- 22:46Speaker 1: I'm in the restaurant category. So, uh, throughout our international competition,
- 22:51Speaker 1: it's across 4 days. So throughout the 4 days, we
- 22:54Speaker 1: have
- 22:54Speaker 1: Um, many different tasks to complete. So we have fine dining,
- 22:59Speaker 1: so we have to serve a table of 3 and
- 23:01Speaker 1: 2 at the same time, and we also have bistro dining,
- 23:04Speaker 1: so we had to serve a table of 43, and
- 23:06Speaker 1: 2 simultaneously, simultaneously as well as banquet dining and barista
- 23:13Speaker 1: and bartending. There's so many things, so many things going on.
- 23:17Speaker 1: I mean, for you, um, I know that there's a
- 23:19Speaker 1: lot of like multitasking going on, you have to really
- 23:21Speaker 1: keep a clear mind. What was the most challenging part
- 23:25Speaker 1: of this process for you? The time it's uh
- 23:29Speaker 1: Very squeezy time that we have this time around because
- 23:32Speaker 1: um for banquet dining, usually we have 3 courses within
- 23:35Speaker 1: 90 minutes, but this time around they increased to 6
- 23:39Speaker 1: courses within 80 minutes. Yes, so it's very squeezy, but
- 23:44Speaker 1: it actually feels like a real-life, I mean they're trying
- 23:47Speaker 1: to simulate like a real-life situation, right? Because
- 23:50Speaker 1: Sometimes when I go for like events or even like
- 23:52Speaker 1: wedding dinners at places, sometimes you hear people saying like, oh,
- 23:56Speaker 1: there's a delay or like, you know, maybe it's uh
- 23:58Speaker 1: it's it's it's not moving as fast as we want.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I can see that there's a lot going on back end.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Ever since you joined these competitions, and I'm assuming, you know,
- 24:07Speaker 1: you have a bright future ahead of you in terms
- 24:09Speaker 1: of your career, what were some things that you now
- 24:12Speaker 1: appreciate more in the service sector, like compared to when
- 24:16Speaker 1: you were just a consumer back then?
- 24:19Speaker 1: Definitely when it's busy, I will try my best to
- 24:22Speaker 1: wait a little longer because, yes, correct, because we know
- 24:25Speaker 1: like what's going on behind the scenes as a service
- 24:28Speaker 1: staff myself. I think the only problem is like when
- 24:31Speaker 1: people haven't experienced and that's how we like sometimes lovingly
- 24:38Speaker 1: won that title for ourselves, right? Singaporeans like to complain
- 24:41Speaker 1: and all that.
- 24:42Speaker 1: OK, we're gonna take a short break. I think you
- 24:44Speaker 1: actually have a few friends joining us on TikTok live
- 24:47Speaker 1: watching you and even Republic Police tuned in. OK, we'd
- 24:51Speaker 1: love to hear more from you in just a bit
- 24:53Speaker 1: and also the reactions of your family, friends, and maybe
- 24:55Speaker 1: even your classmates from RRP. I am still with Republic
- 24:59Speaker 1: Poly's Charmaine who has been with us. She's got plenty
- 25:02Speaker 1: of very
- 25:03Speaker 1: Proud um lecturers and I think family and friends joining
- 25:07Speaker 1: the TikTok live stream right now. Thank you for joining
- 25:09Speaker 1: us and thank you for doing our country so proud
- 25:11Speaker 1: as well. Thank you. Um, it's not your first time
- 25:14Speaker 1: here and it's not your first time also like chatting
- 25:16Speaker 1: about WorldSkills and how passionate you are about it. Um,
- 25:19Speaker 1: in case you just joined us, she also claimed the
- 25:21Speaker 1: best of nation award, which I wanted to address right now.
- 25:24Speaker 1: The challenges in the Best of nation award actually quite complex,
- 25:28Speaker 1: quite a lot of things. Um, I zoomed in on
- 25:31Speaker 1: the bartending challenge. Can you tell me a bit more
- 25:33Speaker 1: about that? So, that is more complex because we have
- 25:37Speaker 1: to memorize a list of cocktails and then we wouldn't
- 25:40Speaker 1: know until the day itself, the bartending itself, yes, which one.
- 25:46Speaker 1: So it's mystery, so we'll get 3 and 1 mystery.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Yes, remembering and memorizing 27 recipes, that's insane. That's insane.
- 25:57Speaker 1: It's a lot. Yeah. How, what was your, how did
- 25:59Speaker 1: you compartmentalize and plan for that?
- 26:03Speaker 1: Usually I go, I memorize by the easiest one first.
- 26:07Speaker 1: So usually the minimum one is 3 types of alcohol
- 26:12Speaker 1: followed by 4 or 5. Some example like Long Island
- 26:16Speaker 1: iced tea, there are 7 ingredients in that. It's correct.
- 26:20Speaker 1: No wonder we always get headache.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Oh yes. So that is the cocktail that I remember
- 26:27Speaker 1: the last. Yeah. And can you tell us a bit
- 26:30Speaker 1: more about what was chosen for you to, to make
- 26:33Speaker 1: or what was selected? So,
- 26:36Speaker 1: OK, I don't really remember the three, but, yes, but
- 26:40Speaker 1: um we were given 3 mysteries and one that was
- 26:44Speaker 1: um created by our
- 26:48Speaker 1: Wskis um director himself. Oh, OK, so it's a special one. Yes, correct.
- 26:54Speaker 1: So it's a special one and then we were given
- 26:56Speaker 1: a recipe on the spot. So we have to prepare
- 26:58Speaker 1: the ingredients, the glassware, the garnishes, and then we have
- 27:04Speaker 1: another 20 minutes to prepare.
- 27:05Speaker 1: the drinks to our guests. And so they rated, I'm
- 27:07Speaker 1: sure based on like the visuals, the flavor, the taste,
- 27:13Speaker 1: how balanced or not. And if it's level meaning like
- 27:16Speaker 1: to the brim, or what do you mean by that? Oh,
- 27:20Speaker 1: so they need to look like totally uniform.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not as easy as you think. I'm sure
- 27:24Speaker 1: that now that you're so well versed in all of this,
- 27:27Speaker 1: when you go for your own like family gatherings, are
- 27:29Speaker 1: you the go to person? They're like, OK, she's got it,
- 27:31Speaker 1: she's doing the drinks. Does that happen? No, just to
- 27:34Speaker 1: open wines actually. So you're very useful in that sense. OK,
- 27:39Speaker 1: so now you've got both medals with you today. You've
- 27:42Speaker 1: shown it to the, have you shown it to the
- 27:43Speaker 1: TikTok live stream just yet? Not yet. Show it, show it. Yeah,
- 27:46Speaker 1: flex it. It looks really heavy. Yes, it is. It is.
- 27:51Speaker 1: This one is the best of nation. Yeah, that's the
- 27:53Speaker 1: one with the the turquoise straps. Yeah. And then the
- 27:57Speaker 1: orange strap is my silver medal. Thank you so much
- 28:01Speaker 1: for bringing that down and for sharing it with us.
- 28:03Speaker 1: What's next for you now that you know you've already
- 28:06Speaker 1: achieved a certain level of accomplishments in Republic Poly and
- 28:09Speaker 1: then you're going to graduate soon. You mentioned that you're
- 28:12Speaker 1: gonna full-time work full-time very soon. Anything else that you're
- 28:15Speaker 1: gonna do or pursue or you can share with us
- 28:17Speaker 1: on air before I let you go?
- 28:19Speaker 1: Um, yes, I'll be continuing, uh, my full time with
- 28:23Speaker 1: my internship place previously. So that is fin dining as well,
- 28:26Speaker 1: and then maybe pursue my further studies in the future.
- 28:30Speaker 1: And anything you'd like to say to, you know, aspiring
- 28:33Speaker 1: young people who also want to take on a similar
- 28:35Speaker 1: path to you and hopefully win big at WorldSkills next time.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Anything you want to share?
- 28:40Speaker 1: Um, I would say if you have the passion and
- 28:43Speaker 1: the resilience for it, uh, go for it because it's
- 28:46Speaker 1: a very fun journey, although it's long, but it's very fulfilling,
- 28:49Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, exactly. Thank you so much for being here.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Would you like to say
- 28:57Speaker 1: A big thank you to one of your, any of
- 28:59Speaker 1: your RP supporters or you know, your, your friends. Yes,
- 29:03Speaker 1: I would like to thank my coach, Miss Yannie. She's
- 29:06Speaker 1: been there through all the long hours, the long trainings,
- 29:09Speaker 1: as well as the different competitions. Miss Adeline, my expert,
- 29:13Speaker 1: so she's the one that's
- 29:15Speaker 1: Making sure that everything is on point before we head
- 29:18Speaker 1: off for every competition. My chef as well as um
- 29:22Speaker 1: all the lecturers that have been helping me along the way.
- 29:25Speaker 1: So it really takes a village, right? Yes, we don't
- 29:28Speaker 1: see that. We don't see that. Thank you so much.
- 29:30Speaker 1: You know, it's always a.
- 29:31Speaker 1: It's pleasure having you here and you're always so happy
- 29:33Speaker 1: and you radiate so much joy and I wish you
- 29:35Speaker 1: all the best. Thank you. And of course, you know,
- 29:38Speaker 1: it's been such a wonderful hour or so chatting with Charmaine,
- 29:42Speaker 1: in case you missed it, please log on to me,
- 29:45Speaker 1: Listen and Spotify after the show.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Today, gonna be another exciting day. Um, I'm not sure
- 29:51Speaker 1: if I can say who I'm meeting just yet and
- 29:54Speaker 1: which F1 driver I'm meeting right after the show, but
- 29:57Speaker 1: I will fill you in when I get the green light,
- 30:00Speaker 1: when I get the green light for that. Uh, but
- 30:01Speaker 1: in the meantime, I'm sure plenty of your favorite celebrities
- 30:05Speaker 1: and DJs here in Singapore doing lots of coverage across
- 30:08Speaker 1: the islands with many different F1 drivers and if you
- 30:11Speaker 1: spot your favorite, you know, of course, please leave a comment.
- 30:14Speaker 1: And, and show some love and support as we wrap
- 30:16Speaker 1: up to race weekend.
