Latest / Sri Aurobindo Studies / Understanding the External Medium of Communication and the Inner Force Within the Communication
Transcript
- 0:01There are hidden forces, vibrational patterns that move
- 0:05between people that remain unseen but have their effect,
- 0:10similar to the way that we do not observe electricity but we
- 0:14do observe its effects. These vibrational patterns
- 0:18operate without any overt external medium, simply through
- 0:22communication of the vibrations from 1 vital being to another.
- 0:29It is however, also true that all our external acts carry with
- 0:33them as a medium of the interchange the force that is
- 0:37operative. Thus we get a sense of what is
- 0:41moving through speech, through body language, and through
- 0:45various modes of communication such as art, dance, music and
- 0:49writing. Some of these tend to carry more
- 0:52of the mental impact, while others carry more of the vital
- 0:56impact. When an individual consciously
- 0:59intends to communicate something to another individual through
- 1:03the written word, for instance, he focuses his attention on
- 1:07developing the nuance and turn of phrase that will precisely
- 1:12embody the force to be communicated.
- 1:16Thus the written word has the power in many cases to
- 1:22communicate the force of compassion, of goodwill, of
- 1:26love, or the force of anger and rage, or some mental force that
- 1:33draws the mind to a single point of concentration.
- 1:38The power of words, particularly when combined with meter, is
- 1:43particularly potent, as can be seen when one hears the chanting
- 1:47of the Vedas or the Upanishads. Sri Aurobindo mastered this art
- 1:52of communicating an essential vibrational force to readers of
- 1:56his epic poem Savitri, a legend and a symbol.
- 2:00Many people have recounted the experience of reading Savitri
- 2:05and having some extraordinary experience of consciousness as a
- 2:08result. In some cases an almost trance
- 2:13like state arises, in others a feeling of great inward movement
- 2:18of awareness, Instill others an incredible sense of joy or a
- 2:24feeling of the darkness of the resistance of the vital world to
- 2:28the manifestation of higher consciousness of light, freedom
- 2:33and bliss, Sri Aurobindo observes Quote Every letter
- 2:38means an interchange with the person who writes it.
- 2:42For something is there behind the words something of his
- 2:46person or of the forces he has put out or had around him while
- 2:51writing. Our thoughts and feelings are
- 2:54also forces and can have effects upon others.
- 2:58One has to grow conscious of the movement of these forces and
- 3:03then one can control one's own mental and vital formations and
- 3:08cease to be affected by those of others.
